Put the iPhone on charge then the app starts downloading. The download doesn't start until you put your mobile on charge

App won't download databases. I bought this app a few days ago and have tried repeatedly to download the English database. The download never starts. An email to the company remains unanswered 48 hours and counting...) so I am suspect of this developers solvency and will be requesting a refund via the App Store. Unless you read of this being resolved, save your money as this app is totally useless if you cannot download their database(s)...

Sweet Heaven. I'm a med student. There's not always internet wherever I might be studying. Amazing tool. Love this! The database downloads just fine .... needs to be plugged in and on wifi. I have this on my 32gig iPhone and my iPad as well.

Does NOT WORK anymore. I do not recommend purchasing this app in its current state, I bought this application awhile ago and it worked amazing. However, currently this app does not work. The application will get stuck on the choose language section and does not show any languages for me to choose. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app to no avail. Will update rating if creator ever update and fix this issue so I can use the application again.

Fully dead now. This app used to be flawed but useful, but now it doesn’t work at all (it seems the server hosting the download is down, and has been down for months)... so it’s not clear why this should be up for sale anymore.

Used to be good. I bought the original wiki offline and true to form, a company brings out another version and charges you for the privilege (you don't know whether you are downloading an app for free that you've already bought or being charged for it until after you click "get" - then it's too late). Anyhow, I've tried to download he English database for several weeks and keeps getting stuck. I tried contacting the publisher, who only seems to have a Twitter account and got nothing back. So this whole wiki offline 2 seems like a big scam to me. Avoid.

BAD PEOPLE! Here's Why—. I just got an iPad Air 2 with the latest update. I was so pleased to see the download finally work after 2 years of waiting. UNTIL—After waiting around 35 minutes it stopped at 4.11 GB of 4.85 GB left to completion and saw this message: "About 36 years, 0 months, 0 weeks, 4 days, 10 hours, 34 minutes, 22 seconds, remaining." WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT?

Doesn’t work. I got this recently and the language screen is blank. I owned the old version, which also doesn’t work with the new iOS 12. I guess this was wasted money.

Excellent Work. Took a couple tries to download the right version but it works great now! Amazing amount of info all at your fingertips. Having it without connection is the best part! Thanks!!

Used to work great. I had the early version, which was great. Uninstalled the old and purchased take 2. It does not work, and the support page is not available.

This was a great app. I used to love this app... The database download is broken now though, and from the other commenters it seems like the company is unresponsive. Sad to say the least... This was one of my most used apps.

Was great till they stopped updating it. This app used to be great, especially if you didn't have an Internet connection. You could carry around all of Wikipedia even in areas with no wireless service. If you still have a copy of the database, the app still works, but last I checked, they haven't updated the database in several years, and you can't download it from Avocado Hills anymore.

The wiki database now available, but missing html table text. I purchased this app a few months a ago, as I was looking forward to having the Wikipedia text available offline at all times. However it appears both the free and paid for databases are no longer on line. As of October they put the a copy of the June 2015 Wikipedia database online. The app now works. However it appears all the data in HTML tables has been inadvertently striped (which is a lot of important info). Their older app and database did have all the text including html table data. I look forward to them updating the database to contain all non graphic Wikipedia info not just a subset (3 stars due to missing info)

Was my favorite App. I used this app daily, recently upgraded my iPhone which requires a database download. Company and app non-responsive. This app should be taken down from the store and purchases refunded.

Database does not download. I had the first Wiki Offline app. It worked fine on my iPhone 6 with iOS 9.0.2. When I bought the new iPhone 6s Plus the database for the the program did not install. So I went to download it. The files would not download. So I read that for those running iOS 8 and 9 Wiki Offline 2 should be used. So I bought it. The same problem! I then read that one can transfer the database files from one device to another. I had the first Wiki Offline app on my iPad. So I copied those files to my computer via file share on iTunes. Then I plugged my iPhone in and added the files to the first Wiki Offline App (not Wiki Offline 2). It now works. So the Wiki Offline 2 app (as well as the first one) does not download the database and it is not needed anyway as long as one has the first version. So if you have the first version on another device with the files then do what I did then get a refund on Wiki Offline 2.

Great learning aid. Nice to have when off the grid. Basic encyclopedia available addressing a number of subjects. Takes a bit to download, but if you are into light research with cross indexes, this is the app for you. It helps to plan ahead and down load over night.

SUCH A SHAME... Very Frustrating!. This is my favorite and most used app. HOWEVER... The database download is stupid, broken, unreliable, and NEEDS TO BE FIXED! I have this working on a out half of my i-devices, the other half I've tried multiple times and the download "terminates" about halfway through, and won't let you "Resume" like it's supposed to. DEVELOPER: WHY don't you allow download onto a PC or MAC, then sync of database? Then I'd only need to do the database downloading nightmare once, and sync to multiple devices. THIS IS SO STUPID AND FRUSTRATING!!! Grrr...

Would be great if database updates were available. I really like this app, it works very well, and seems to transparently update articles from online (and then add to local database) when you have internet connection. However, the last database update is from June 2015, nearly a year old - the developer seems to have abandoned the app and no longer provides regular database updates. There is no other offline Wiki reader nearly as good as this, but as the database gets further and further out of date it becomes less useful.

Does not work. I have iOS 12. When I downloaded the app it opened a language selection screen with no options or buttons on the screen. Tried to redownload and same thing happened.

I like the app. I’ve had had this app fro several weeks now an it has worked fine for me. I like having the Wikipedia database local, it’s fast and not reliant on having a good internet connection. The app installs in two parts, first you install the app then you install the Wikipedia database with the app. Addressing some of the concerns in other reviews, I began the download feature and at first nothing seemed to be happening. I left it alone for about half an hour and returning noticed that the had begun to download. The download of over 4GB is slow, but the download feature is persistent and survived some network crashes and other problems. I started the download at night using typical home cable Internet service and by morning it was done.

Database base won't download. Recently updated to iOS 8.4. I went to re-download the database and it seems as if their server is not working. Real shame as the actual app isn't bad. However with NO support and no database, the App is utterly useless.

It doesn’t work anymore. End of review, I guess. I used to enjoy the app, but when installing it on my iPhone X it won’t load the language database. I purchased the new version, but it does the same - so I’ll be requesting a refund stat. Stay away from it!

Fails to Download. I had Wiki Offline 2 with a previous version and an earlier iOS, but I have not been able to get any articles or re-download the English version. I would either like it to get back to working and download or I would like a reimbursement of the cost of this app.

Articles are not updated. This app is great if you like random tidbits of information. However, the articles have not been updated in like 2 years. Plus, there are absolutely no images in articles. The author could at least try to show maybe one or have them compressed and you have to click to see it. The image is minor. The lack of update is very bad.

No longer works. Used to be excellent.. When you launch this app it just displays a page that says “language settings” with no other text or controls. The app hasn’t been updated in several years, so unfortunately this app can not be recommended. Apple should remove it from the store.

Crashes every time. I had all the same problems with downloading the database as everyone else. I finally got it to work through a workaround, but now every time I try to launch an article the program crashes.

Paid $9+ For an app that doesn’t load!. This is the very first paid or unpaid app I have downloaded that just doesn’t work. I had a previous version for my iPad that was free and worked fine. I can’t figure out how to get my money back. Maybe I’ll contact my credit card company. Sadly only read reviews after I bought program and I see no’s some others wrote about ‘difficulty’ loading. Fatal Flaws. When and if it works, it's a great app for working offline, especially in parts of the world where an internet connection is hard to find. However, downloading of databases is totally unreliable: I was downloading, paused, and could never resume - even when I bought a second copy of the app I still had this problem.

Very buggy. Do not buy this app. Constantly fails at downloading database, freezes down to 1bit/second. After you quit and start again, freezes at 'download at 0%'. Floods you with dialogues in some sections. Poor programming. I know, I'm a programmer.

No longer does what it says. No longer works. You can’t download a version of Wikipedia offline. I’ve written to the company and got no response. Not sure why it’s still on the App Store. I used to love this app. My old review: I use this app nearly every day as I work away from Internet coverage. I find it invaluable and can't believe there aren't more apps like this one. I used to use Avocado Hills' old Wikipedia app and that also worked perfectly but they stopped supporting it and eventually it stopped working (and they stopped replying to emails too). There is another Wikipedia Offline app that I tried but for some reason, despite their claims, very little of what I wanted to look up was actually in it. This app has everything and I am constantly amazed at how much information can fit in my iPhone. It is like carrying The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. Get it and you won't be disappointed.

I like it!. It's a big download that puts your device out of action for a few hours while it downloads the latest version of Wikipedia (if you're looking for the full English version), but once there it's very handy. Great for roadtrips, airplanes, or any mobile blackspots. I like the automatic layout, and now that tables are available, it's great.

Needs some more work for iOS8. With iOS 8, this app will not update the database,even if you are a paid customer. Trying to update,just sends the drop down into the top left corner. Contacted thru email,right after the iOS 8 came out, but NO response from the developer,which is kind of sad,as they used to be very fast rectifying problems. Images are missing in iOS8.1also. Still hoping for an update. Another update: When d/l the database it takes a looooong time. Just uninstalled and reinstalled and the timer goes from 1 minute to 1year and 37 minutes and 27 seconds. Their server is in need of an upgrade. Just deleted the app again for the tenth time and still NO response from the developers . Would suggest you ditch this app until they update. Cannot Download and no support. Terrible app. Used to be fine but few months now it stopped from downloading. Spoke with Apple no support and wrote to the developer AvocadoHills but never responded. I spent my 25$ and time for nothing just trying to see if the other version would work but it didn't.

Most detailed offline wiki app BUT. I find this app's database keeps much more info than competing apps—useful when I am on an airplane and wish to look pretty obscure things regarding geology and geography up. Most of the time other apps don't even have links to things like 'Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt'. BUT it is hit and miss trying to download the database with this app. You have to keep trying over the course of days and days to finally find the server online. That makes it fairly difficult to recommend... Update a year later: database downloading finally worked (and then again when I had to reinstall iOS due to other issues) and the app has been rock steady. Upped to a solid 4 stars now.

Excellent. Large size but the data saved is great. App is user friendly and fast. I like reading Wikipedia when I'm bored and this gives me something to do without using my data.

Excellent; One Bug.... This is an excellent app. It really is. But, when downloading things like images and tables, they tend to mess up the formatting on the iPhone—specifically, there's "blank space" on the right that you may find yourself accidentally scrolling to. Annoying but fixed by disabling online mode. Anyway, it would also be nice if, when online mode is on, the text (which is already downloaded) can load first, then the images as to reduce any amount of waiting.

Major fragmentation and minor bugs. I am a long time user of Wikibot and love a good Wikipedia app. It greatly improves my experience with Wikipedia on the go. Wikibot has always been the app with the most utility. Recently though, the developer is causing lots of fragmentation with their apps by creating too many versions of apps that do slightly different things. I believe this affects the overall quality and leads to issues and irritated customers that pay multiple times to get the functionality that should be combined in one app. Why not make one Wikipedia app called “Wikibot” and add a in-app purchase to download offline content. Also, integrate read-out-loud features instead of releasing a separate app. Please update your desktop apps so they work with your mobile apps in a streamline way. I currently have a ton of bookmarks in Wikibot but they don’t show up in Wiki Offline which is very annoying. The apps are almost identical. I have issues with the apps crashing, and after paying for the app and the subscription to download the offline content, I believe the app should be top notch and not crash. I can get the app to crash by just waiting a hour or loading a lot of articles. Do you test your app? Do you use your own app? There are also weird visual layout issues like on the iPhone, when searching, the search bar is not on top of a bar, and just overlays the content like an afterthought. Overall I like the apps, but please quit the fragmentation. Your making it harder on yourself. I would gladly pay, but please fix these issues. Also when I started the app for the first time, I downloaded the small english database to try it out. To my surprise, I couldn’t download the full database after that because I am limited to one initial download. This is a bad thing and really put a bad taste in my mouth. I already paid $9.99 for this and Wikibot as well. Please state when the app starts that I only have one download.

Bad. 1. Content is stripped down (not only images) 2. Images do not load even with an active connection. 3. Most features/windows do not even open (or stay open longer than a second) under iOS8.

Abandonware. It was a good piece of software. Now, upon startup, the language selection is empty. The servers are probably dead now. Very sad.

Unusable. At least in my case. I am using iOS 8 on a iPhone 5c and the app crashes almost every time I try to search something. My guess is that the app has not been updated to work with the latest iOS. I love the concept but it is not worth it if it can't search without crashing.

What a tool!. Been using another version of wiki offline for awhile. This version makes it leaps and bounds better!

It doesn't work.. It doesn't work. End of story. I tried downloading it several times. The encyclopedia content downloads onto my iPhone 6, but I can't access it using this app. So it just takes up precious memory and delivers nothing.

Compare to Original WikiOffline. The original WikiOffline on my iPad Air would not update the database, purchased the 99 cent token. "Upgraded" to this version. Similar but does not download images or tables into the database when connected to the net and "Activate" toggle is ON. I have sent multiple requests for a solution to support - they do not respond! They have my $ so they don't care. Just so you know who your dealing with.

5-star app is (temporarily?) broken (28 Dec 2014). Wiki Offline has been a great app for me -- I've used it and other Avocado Hills apps for 5+ years. But… for now, the data source from which you download the huge Wikipedia file (after purchasing the app) appears to be offline. Likewise, the App Store link to the developer web site returns the message, "Error 502 bad gateway". Hopefully, the developer will fix the problem soon.

Gone bad!. I have had Wiki Offline 1 for a year or so and it wasn't a bad app. But it appears as though Avocado Hills has gone under or something as the resource is not downloadable. This has been noted by other reviewers as I see. Very bad.

No download options. The download option is not seen in my iphone after i reinstalled the app as it was accidentally deleted, there is only a blank page. Please fix it soon

Fantastic Offline Wiki App. I've had an offline wiki app for 4 years and even tho it had a crummy UI and it crashed and never updated, it was still worth so much more than I paid for it. But, I finally got fed up. So I got a new offline version of Wikipedia - Wiki Offline - and bought the XXL version. I tried one other, but like the Avacado hills 2nd generation app for reasons I can't quite articulate. If you are curious, and go places with terrible coverage or travel and can't afford data roaming, download this app and buy the XXL package. I love it !!!

I won't upgrade to iOS8. No pictures, but that's reasonable, as the whole of Wikipedia is already downloaded onto my phone. What else is there to complain about when you have access to this amount of knowledge without an internet connection? Power goes out, and I can still learn. Beautiful.

This wiki is not the same as online wiki. The download database is not including anything that u can view from the Internet, only contain some basic information regarding a subject, I play clash of clans, I expect more info. Like troop, building, strategies, ect. Beside only telling me what is clash of clans and whose company owe this game. As far as now it's not worth my 10 bucks. I will rate 2 stars. But it's fun to have wiki work offline, I will re-rate in the future when the database contains more information. Until then 2 stars

Great product.. Highly recommended. Great for when you're not connected to the Internet… Like camping, hiking, stuck in an elevator, stranded, anything. A wealth of information at your fingertips, anytime you need it.

Beautiful update. The app works for me, I'm loving the update! Visually beautiful, and faster performance than before. If it doesn't work for you, perhaps try contacting support? They have been very responsive in the past in my experience.

Does not work. I downloaded this app on Dec 2014, and it does not allow you to download the offline Wikipedia database once you have the app. It’s been a month since I first got the app, and the database is still not downloadable. It appears the developer’s website is also down. This app is completely non-functional for new users and should be completely avoided until they fix it.

Great idea. I had the old version, and I really liked it. Unfortunately I can't seem to get the images to download even though the "activate" switch is on and I'm connected to wifi.

It does not work at all. I just spent $10 to buy this app, first time started it, it asked for language setting without any language options displayed, so you could not select anything and the app was just stuck there. I don't know if there is any way I can get money back.

The best app ever. I travel very often and lack of Internet connection. Wikipedia is a doorway to a wide range of interesting subjects. I enjoy reading about everything from the Boson of Higgs to the Protestant Reformation, Brazil, Bangladesh, and biography of Villa Lobos. I love it.

Won't download. Wiki offline 2 won't download and instead will just remain at the "0 of 4 files downloaded". Deleted and reinstalled the app several times and still won't work. Don't spend your money until fixed.

Needs Update. Doesn't work on iPhone 6 running 8.1.2, as I get no download options. Was a handy app before this development.

Huge bug. Anytime I try to change the text size , or any setting for that matter, the app crashes. This REALLY upsets me because I spent a long time downloading the app. I really wanted to use this app whenever I had nothing else to do without using my data. Obviously I still could use it, but the text being so big is really bothersome. Please fix this!! It would be so simple and keep the users happy!!!

Database doesn't load. Title says it all. Apple won't refund the purchase!

What's wrong?. Downloaded the app to my iPad and opened it several times. It's completely blank!!! With no menu to do anything with? And the app support led no where? What's going on??.

Won't download. Don't buy version 2 until they fix the download. I've tried on several occasions with several devices and it locks up halfway through the download. I hope they fix this soon.

Great app!. I have used the original Wiki Offline as well as Wikibot. I also have tried a number of other popular Wikipedia readers. This app is the best one I have seen so far. Highly recommended!

Out of date. The "original" wiki offline has been updated for iPhone 6 but this hasn't yet. I would avoid this version until it's brought up to date with its cousin.
