Crashes!. Worked and then would now open. Deleted and reinstalled the app. Same thing. Worked a few times and now does not open. Very frustrating.

Crucial. Great app but it would be even better if it let you claim your bib # as a runner, let others know what you’ll be wearing, let you track spectators, and tell you as a runner who’s tracking you.

Awful app, year-after-year. The most recent version (for NYC Marathon 2023) crashes every time I open it. The latest version for NYC Marathon 2022 was slow on updating the runners positions causing me to miss seeing loved ones because they ended up being 0.2 miles away. Interacting with the app involves way too many clicks for simple functionality —> the app is only dedicated to one event and only needs to do 4 or 5 things, but makes it such a hassle

Laggy and awkward. If TCS mean to show off their prowess, they failed. The app didn’t update unless you killed it and reloaded. It crashed unless you reboot your phone. The map tracking, the spilt showing and the notices are seriously out of sync. What could they have been thinking? Clearly a case of poor project management. Not only is this app flawed, but it makes me wonder who would hire Tata for business system development.

Needs more server capacity. This app was pretty useless the first few hours of the marathon when a lot of people were using it. It would either close or give a can’t connect to server message. This hasn’t happened in past years. Maybe the new video options? Whatever it was, the primary job of this app is to help us find our friends and cheer for them, and it didn’t do that job. You need to make that work next year. Beef up the server capacity.

Just because there isn’t one yet. Just giving this a 1 star because I wanted to be the first to do it. The app is actually great. But someone has to do it🤷

Absolutely useless. Freezes constantly and the only way to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall. I ended up missing my friend because the tracking stopped working for me and everyone in my area at the same time. I would give this app a negative review if I could.

NYRR needs to fire the app developer or person b/c of day zero update. I spent 2 HOURS last night adding all of the people I want to track. You roll out an update THE DAY IF THE RACE and now the app crashes and everyone has to delete and reinstall the app losing their tracking data. No IT professionals worth any salt would ever do that. Ridiculous. Fire thee person that made the decision.

Could not connect to server. Just continue to get could not connect to server error. Can’t track runners, can’t get race day info.

Notifications bad. When notifications Appear it doesn’t show you photos

Crashes!!. This app worked great last year to track runners. I am running this year and want to be sure this is going to work for my friends and family. But I keeps crashing every time I open. iPhone 7 up to date. I tried restarting phone. Deleting and reinstalling app. Still crashing. We are 2 weeks from race day!!!

Trying to send message. I am loading my picture, I’m putting the tag on but nothing is happening. I don’t know if it’s getting through because it just freezes and I’m not sure if the messages going through the pictures going through. Something is up but I’m not quite sure but the app is freezing too much.

Was better off with desktop web site. I used this app as a spectator, and the key for spectators is to be able to follow runners real-time so we can meet them on the route and cheer. The desktop web does this well by tracking runners on a map that shows their estimated location updating real-time on a map. All this app does it show me the splits, leaving me to do all sorts of calculations on my own to predict where someone I am following is. There is no technical reason why the desktop map tracking couldn't have been done on the mobile app.

Constantly crashes and inaccurate runner location. The app would not stop crashing and therefore we couldn’t track our friends who were running for 90% of the day. The 10% of the time the app worked, the tracking was WAY off. I understand that there must be some logic involved for estimating exactly where runners are between mile markers but the logic clearly was horrendous – I found it to be off by around 5 minutes. If a runner is consistently running at 8 min per mile pace, the logic should be close to that, not putting the runner ahead by 5 minutes.

Doesn’t work! Cannot connect to server. I’ve used this app in the past to track runners but it simply doesn’t work at all now. Every time I try to add runners it just says cannot connect to server. I have deleted it and reinstalled it multiple times and it still doesn’t work. Bummer that this is the official marathon app and it doesn’t even work. Take it out of the store if you’re not going to support it

The best app created. This was so amazing , as a fellow fan of the marathon, I always want to keep track on what occurs and I found my solution to my problem . 😁

NYC Marathon you better Hope Tata is better at consulting so they can keep sponsoring. This app is simply the worst I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen an app release when the app simply crashes. On top of that, numerous posts have obviously updated Tata but NOTHING. I hope NYRR get better service than all the people simply wanting to download an app that works. Surprised Apple hasn’t pulled this. Really really bad PR for both Tata and NYRR club. Doesn’t

Typical Major Marathon app. Previous versions to v5.0 will crash. That was annoying, but now that’s fixed, the app isn’t too bad. It’s similar to other World Marathon Majors apps: has course maps, expo maps, athlete tracking, etc. The Race Predictor feature crashes every time. If you’re participating in the NYC Marathon or have friends/family with you while running it, definitely worth getting this app.

I don’t want an app. I just want to track my friends running, I don’t want an app a web browser is good enough for other marathons *cough* Boston *cough*. Add insult to injury, on an iPad you get a tiny window because this is only an iPhone app. Why three stars, instead of 2 (maybe even 1)? Because the app did work and the timings are responsive. At least their back end infrastructure is up to the task. Unlike some others *cough* Boston *cough*

5 stars. I generally never rate apps but it was incredibly helpful with getting most up to date information which I didn’t have to scour the NYRR website for.

Great app!. Innovative and accurate. Some unique features (live feed, in particular). A must for runners and supporters alike!

App crashes every time I open it. After the initial set up where I choose that I’m a spectator and select 3 features, the app crashes. i try opening the app and it crashes almost immediately. I deleted the app, restarted my phone, re-installed the app and the exact same thing happens. I won’t be able to follow my best friend throughout the race this year. 👎

Tracking sucked!. Most of my friends and family weren’t able to track me today - it stopped at different times for different people and I can’t even get my finish time! Had some great info, but the tracking and time is what we’re all looking for!

Completely crashed on race day. The app always ft like it would have been better on a website than yet “another” app, but on race day it would never load. Whoever made this should be ashamed for this poor excuse of an app. Next time just pay a student a couple hundred dollars and you’ll get a much higher quality result.

Can’t login after new update. Once I was forced to delete and re-download that my login credentials don’t work and I was a participant this year. So many cool feature but the functionality is abysmal. Also y’all either totally missed QA or the QA dev needs to be fired. No way should the update/hot fix have happened the day of the marathon.

Excellent and up-to-date. The NYRR United Half Marathon app is terrific. Great navigation and easy to use. Most important for a running app, it is up-to-date with accurate data, something many others lack but this one delivers.

We'll see how it goes on race day. Increase to 20 tracked runners this year is welcomed, though in practice this app has been inferior to the website in past years, we'll see if it actually works on Sunday. Those of us tracking large numbers of runners tend to be members of running clubs. Why can we not search by our team name when selecting runners? This would be enormously helpful for next year.

Works fine. It’s hysterical to see the reviews that say the app doesn’t work. I’m pretty sure they’re the folks that aren’t at all computer savvy. Of course it works immediately

Difficult day for the app. Very disappointing performance of this app today. I’m sure the number of users impacted the tracking ability but after the first hour, we could no longer follow our runners. The app is not reloading now so I hope there is a fix. I’d like to see splits and pix.

Pulling up prior year bib #s. Randomly pulls up prior year’s bib # for runners I’m tracking. Deleted the app and then reloaded it. Corrected one of the runners but brought up the prior year’s number for a runner that was correct the first time I downloaded the app.

Crashed every time. I was able to download the app a few days ago and loaded in the runner information. Day of race, in the morning I checked the information, but once the race started it did nothing but crash. Even though the race has been over for a while, it’s still crashing immediately upon opening. Completely useless unfortunately.

Stopped working when I actually want to track and watch it. First you force us all to download yet another app, but even worse once I actually opened it on Sunday to start tracking my running club friends it got stuck. You really don’t need an app for this especially an app that doesn’t work!

Clunky and Crashy. I got this app to track my runner and create cheer cards for her. The tracking works ok, but requires I sit by and regularly refresh the screen. Until she finished. I have gotten about 40 notifications since she finished: the same two notifications coming through over and over, telling me what time she had when she finished and what time she left the park. Another came in as I’m typing this. Ironic and annoying. The cheer cards? They’re adorable & fun-but creating them is so challenging. It crashes almost every time. This app will be fantastic for creating cheer cards next year if they fix the clunky screen and the bugs causing the crashes.

app crashes. I used this yesterday to track people, and it did work wonderfully but there are times after the race is finished I go to open to app to see when everyone actually finished the race, and it would crash. I had to re download to get it to work again.

Recalling my dislike. Frist this morning it would not load. I tried everything to no avail. Even after the marathon started with the wheel chairs. But then once it was the turn of the runner I was following it worked perfectly. And has been a joy to use.

It didn’t work properly. It’s very simple. I couldn’t keep tracking my fellow runners thru the app. It showed me when they started and when they finished. Poor service. Get serious on this one, NYRR organization. Thanks!

Lots of information and a few problems. I was looking at the app and as a runner, there was nothing on the menu saying: Your Information. Turns out I wasn’t logged in. Which I could only do by going to the Settings item on the menu. Not obvious. It would have been helpful to see on the home screen a button next to “Running? Log in to see your confirmation form.” Also, the most painful problem, for some reason “paste” is disabled on the password field when you log in. For those of us who use password managers, we rely on copying a password from the manager app and pasting it into the password field. Very frustrating to have to bring my laptop over and show the password which I then have to type on the phone. Please enable “paste” in the password field.

Needs fixing. The cheer card feature is a bit clunky and freezing at the last frame. It is completely non responsive. Only option is to exit after several tries I’m forced to give up. I’ve happily used this app for the past several marathons. Please fix this soon! I love the cheer cards and so do the runners! Thanks

Used to work, now broken. Was working great until a recent update. Repeatedly crashes, even after multiple reinstalls. Update: 5.0 fixed crash issues.

Worked great!. The app worked great and being able to track a runner on the map was crucial to seeing them to cheer them on. I can't believe how well it worked!

Sharing links don’t work. Like lots of people I downloaded the app to track a friend running in the marathon today. I ran into a problem when I tried to share a tracking link and it generated an Invalid Dynamic Link error from Firebase. I wanted to submit feedback to the app developer but there wasn’t a way to do that from the app that I could find. There was a form to submit feedback to the NYRR organization but the required category menu didn’t pop up so the submission failed. After looking at the form on the web site it’s clear there is no category for the app anyways. Clicking on support within the App Store just sends you to the TCS web site, nothing specific to the app. This might be a great app for the runners or for other features, but not being to report a problem is a big problem in and of itself.

Says only for participants of 2023 Marathon. Upon installing and logging in with latest credentials , it says only for participants of 2023 Marathon. I am one and not sure why it doesn’t let me in since this morning - app crashes and the message is the latest after removing the app and reinstalled. Please fix and advise. Thanks.

App crashing - day of race. Assuming you’re already working on it but the app is crashing on my phone and my families phone. The race is starting so hoping it’ll be fixed too. Crashing on launch.

App will be working end of month. If you read the website, it says app will be up and running end of October. There’s no reason for it to work now.

Login not working. The most basic function, runner login, doesn’t work. Each time I try (with what I’m certain is the correct password) I get a “Whoops! Something Went Wrong” message. Please fix. Reviews for last year’s edition were pretty poor, and the 2023 race app also doesn’t appear to be off to a good start.

Not easy to navigate. Trying to create a cheer card and can’t get back out after not finding a suitable photo on the options presented. Very frustrating! Only gives two options and if you can’t find a photo that you want to lose and decide to either start over or not make a cheer card after all, you can’t get back to the main screen!

One glaring UX issue. As someone who is NOT running, downloaded the app to track and support friends, there is one glaring issue. When is the marathon?! There is NOWHERE on the app clearly saying this. There is an app icon with the number 4 on it. Is that an icon or is that the actual date? Too easy to miss it. Look at Race Week - there is no mention of the actual marathon on Sat and Sun. Look at Race Day - no date mentioned?! Sure, go to the website. There is a countdown clock. The media ads say it’s Sun. My running friends tell me when it is. But the site and the app itself does a terrible job conveying this date. I shouldn’t have to come to the site, use the app, then look at other 3P items to try and implicitly understand when the race is.

Great experience. This app helped me track colleagues / those part of the running group in real time and let me preview my medal prior to race day. Just a few of the great innovations contained in this app!

Disappointed. Told all my family to track me using the app and that they could see me cross the finish line via the app and both failed half way through my run. Luckily my husband was able to use Life360 to track my progress but this app was very disappointing.

Tracking. My runners names and bib #'s won't load

Shameful app. Shame on TCS that pays millions to sponsor the event and not to have an app that works properly. Cant even send messages to runners like Chicago’s app. I had to install it 3 times before I wa able to make it work.

Loser. Cheer cards don't load regardless of pic size! Not hopeful for tracking function operating on race day given poor performance so far for this sketchy offering. Too bad...

Bad keyboard. Keyboard does not have all characters, not able to type my password. And app does not allow copy the password either from my password management tool.

Well thought out. This app is pretty cool for keeping track of a friend (or anyone) as they race. It also has good maps and info such as services along the route. I have one suggestion: after the race, runners could have the option to “replay” the race at ~10-20x speed or something so the can see themselves vs other runners they chose to track.

Cheer Cards Not Working. My sister gave me this app to follow her for the race but it keeps freezing when I try to create a cheer card! I was so excited it has this option but it freezes after submitting picture edits. Hope it works on race day!

Crashes immediately. Can't even open the app. I tried redownloading it and the same problem happens. It crashes right away. It was working yesterday but now that it's race day it's unusuable :(

App crashing on race day!. Today, NYC Marathon day, the most important day for the app….it immediately crashes upon opening. Poor capacity planning, will have to use the web tracking option instead.

Good when it works - stability issues. After initially install and usage, it keeps crashing and will not open. Only solution in tI delete and re-install. Needs an update.

App won’t even open - crashes every time. Crazy that the ONE app that’s supposed to work on race day failed so bad. People are saying that it only crashes for people “not tech savvy” and that’s insane. I’m gen z and plenty capable of opening an app but this app was a failure on race day and even a day after

App doesn’t open on race day. The marathon is today (11/5 8:52AM) and the app doesn’t open. I’ve tried many times, it shows the main screen and shuts off. There are no updates to make either.

Crashes on day of marathon. The app worked when I installed it last week, but now on the day of the marathon, it crashes every time I try to open it. My friend experiences the same thing. Disappointed that we will not be able to follow along!

Crashes whenever I try to use it. I click on the icon, receive the splash page, then it closes immediately. Also, doesn’t allow me to delete it.

Big disappointment. Did not track!!! Entered my runner's name. Came up on my tracking list. Then nada! The map feature did NOT show m my runner. Piece of cr$$ app. Totally screwed up and never able to track her.

Ok, but needs improvement. It seems to work okay, but it really out to have the whole race guide built in, and the Ability for runners to share their times, spits to facebook, Twitter, etc.

App is crashing. App was working fine until the marathon start time, but from the time marathon starts, App is crashing, not able track or view the cameras. Disappointed!

Good idea. Not tested.. It would be great if you had cell coverage during the race but a lot of it doesn't. This app doesn't cache anything so basically it's unusable. I would have thought they would have figured that out by now. Get the pdf's. They are better than this app on race day.

App hits the wall early. I couldn’t get tracking info on two of the five runners I was trying to track. They never started the race? No, they just weren’t showing up. Then the app quit, and I could not get it to relaunch.

Annoyed. I have someone who is running today and all day yesterday the app was fine. Up until 8am (of course) the app keeps force closing. Seriously this is horrible for people who are want to support their families and friends. Hopefully it fixes soon and I don’t miss the opportunity

Useless. While it’s nice to track runners through the app, it doesn’t send push notifications when they hit specific mileage. I have to sit there and refresh the app. Would be nice to have the notifications sent directly when the runner hits 5k, 10k, etc

Works well. Great app to get all info you need about the marathon.

App Crashes immediately. Two years ago the app worked like a charm. I’m running the marathon in about two weeks and the app is not working at all. I have an updated iPhone 7 and have tried everything. The app is a no go... Please fix

Non-functional. It downloaded fine last week and I registered a runner to track. Then, shortly after the race began, the app constantly shuts down and it’s not possible to see what’s going on with my runner. Trash.

Wow… terrible. You really need to reconsider the team working on this. Unable to open it, I reinstalled, it worked for a bit, and returned to repeatedly crashing. What I did see… isn’t an app to write home about. For a world major… embarrassing.

No network connection. Connection issues for last 2 days - so frustrating experience especially given the fact I run this year. Every other application works on my phone, but this one - doesn’t.

Finally deleted the app and re-installed. ✅Tracked friends after they’d started Later in the day -once the race was over - the devs released an update. This is a garbage app that needed to work and it didn’t. Had similar issues with the Chicago app, which was created by same co.

Crashing. Cannot log on. Come on! I’m trying to track and the app won’t load. Just craps out. I deleted it and redownloaded but still no good. I realize there’s a lot of runners and people trying to track but you should have been prepared for that.

Crash machine. The app worked fine up until the day of the race when everybody needs to use it. On race day, right now, it has crashed the 15 or 20 times I have attempted to start it. If you are going to make us rely on your tech, you need to make it work.

Highly recommended. Great presentation and tons of useful information. Can't wait to track my friends on race day!!

Garbage. This app is terrible. It seemed to work for a bit after I entered a few runners to track, but now it only crashes as soon as I open it (this even after I deleted and re-downloaded the app).

Good but duplicate notifications. Solid performance and slick features. So far only downside is duplicate notifications.

Time wasted. With the amount of money spent on the ny marathon one would think they’d spend a few pennies on an app that actually works! Whatever company made this for you should have long since been fired & replaced by someone hopefully more competent.

Crap. This app worked fine for last few years when I tracked my friends. I got in this year and the app does no even open on my 6+. I guess I won’t need it to track myself. But it would be nice if it actually worked. I think the problem is bigger than a ‘minor bug’.

Worked yesterday but not today—race day. App keeps crashing. I deleted it and reloaded and the furthest I can get is page where you select quick actions. Something similar happened with my Nike Training Club app and it took them weeks to fix it after I contacted support.

This is no way to watch an event. Don’t tell me this is the way to stream multiple angles from my tablet then make it one at a time on a phone sized screen. This app isn’t even basically size responsive for tablets.

Crashes!. Downloaded the app and as multiple reviews have stated the app crashes immediately. With 2 weeks to go I hope the programmers can fix it and have it functioning. I volunteer at the finish line and have used it to track runners.

Embarrassingly bad. Tata Consultancy Services is the presenting sponsor the NYC Marathon and they are also a man IT consultancy yet the app completely failed on Marathon Sunday. It wouldn’t even open and just crashed every time. If this is TCS’ quality of work for the marathon, I’d hate to have them do IT work for my company

Totally broken for me. The app tells me that I have invalid log in credentials. Also, the reset password link that is emailed to me results in an error page on the NYRR website. I can log in to the NYRR website just fine. This should be simple, but someone over at Tata has overcomplicated it. For me, the app is useless. Even worse, the App Store support link for the app just links to a mobile web marketing page for TCS/Tata. Instead of support, I’m greeted with stock photography. Awful.

Doesn’t even open. Another year, another problem. After installing the app the Wednesday before the race I get “No network connectivity” despite my phone having four bars and successfully accessing all my other apps. Pathetic.

Useless. Reinstalled multiple times. Worked when setup a couple days ago but just crashes on open on race day. You would think a IT company putting their name on the race they would know how to build a solid app - says something.

Tracker was off. I assumed the tracker would be a bit laggy, but it ended up showing our runner was ahead and we thought we missed him!! Thankfully right as we were upset that we missed him, we looked up and there he was.

Terrible. Worked really well for pre-race info. Then crashed every single time I opened it after the race started. Had to use the browser version instead, but this was tedious and time-consuming. Super disappointed.

Why did it stop working???. As others have noted, this app used to work great, but now it won’t even open, it just crashes immediately... I really hope we can have a functioning app before the big day!

Off more than 10 blocks!. App was terrible this year. Able to enter runners, but they were about 10 (or more) blocks behind where the tracker said they were. Luckily, our runner was looking for us, otherwise we would have missed him completely. Do better TCS!

Cheer cards not working properly. It’s impossible to actually place a caption...as soon as you hit “apply”...even if you didn’t customize placement...it flies so far to the upper right it’s offscreen.

Handy app. Great app and worked flawlessly the entire marathon weekend. Fantastic features....and they all work!!!

Gave wrong info. Tried to track runner, but route on tracker was different than route actually taken by runner coming off the Verrazano bridge causing us to second guess the correct route and miss cheering for her, very upsetting

Tracking Runners this app is Worthless. This app is worthless for tracking runners. Race has been running over 2 hours and not once could it tell me anything about how the runner was doing that I wanted to track.
