Redundant, full of ads. Just pull down from the home screen and type your word in the search bar. Apple’s result from the system Dictionary never has ads.

Ads worried me but developer response allayed my concerns. A good app.. UPDATED REVIEW IN RESPONSE TO DEVELOPER FEEDBACK: The developers addressed my concerns about the ads, particularly about whether the ad SDK is active if the ads are eliminated thru in-app purchases. Upping my review to 5 stars for the app and the helpful developer response, and will buy the pro version. I would still advise other users: pay to get rid of the ads. Ads are evil. Really. Cough up a couple bucks, pay your developers, give the finger to the creepy ad companies. Original review: Developers who integrate an ad platform usually don't have very direct/specific knowledge about exactly how that ad SDK uses or abuses the app's permissions. So Agile Tortoise probably didn't specifically intend this thing to send my location to the ad company so they can track me and deliver ads customized to the places I've traveled in the past few weeks. But it's happening. So this app is dead to me. I could pay to get rid of the ads, but there's no guarantee that getting rid of the *display* of ads will keep the SDK from tracking me in the background anyway. The location-specific ad targeting creeped me the hell out. I would have cheerfully purchased an app like this but the "we're installing invasive adware, but if you pay us then we won't show you the ads but for all you know the adware is still surveilling you" model is not one I can get behind. Nope, nope, and nope.

Pop up ads. I used to love this app until they went buck wild on the pop up ads

Wonderful tool. I enjoy this app. It is easy to use and very informative. I have recommended it to others!

best yet. does me wonders dman

Good app, good update. The app’s great. But that’s worth 5 stars. I’m writing here to commend the developers in removing the analytics/advertising frameworks in the latest version. I’m quite happy to see that.

Simplicity. I love the simple layout of this app. I like the alphabetical order of the listings. Highly recommend this app.

Be careful. Buy pro and he’s likely to switch to subscription model. Be careful. Buy pro and he’s likely to switch to subscription model and you’ll lose your investment.

Now Free. I downloaded this app. I paid for it. And all the sudden it's free?

👍. 👍

Love this!. I would love to see a feature that allows you to add terms to a list. And a feature that enables definitions for idioms. Thanks!

Terminology. Terminology seems to be a well sourced resource for those who are interested in exploring the various meaning of a word or words. Whether it be its specific definition, the root parts of the term or its connotation to other related terms Terminology works to provide the user with an answer. The extended functionality is what makes this application even more beneficial as it can be used in conjunction with the Clipboard platform as well as other iOS apps and well known services such as Wikipedia. The design is simple yet effective in presenting a canvas for one to visualize.

Great little app. First the definitions are NOT biased nor is there a conspiracy at work...please. Good app that brings a number of online resources together. All in all a great tool.

Simply the best!. This is simply the best dictionary and thesaurus I've used. I get results of more definitions and better word relations on average than anywhere else. Also like the 'Drafts' app, the ability to dynamically change the text display size is also included, so for those of us who have good vision, we can maximize the use of our displays. Its offline capabilities are also the necessity that many 'app' dictionaries lack. This means I can use it for my primary purpose, perfectly. A instant lookup and usage verification tool. Many words don't mean what you think they do, and this app has forever expanded my ability to communicate. If you try and become accustomed to using this app, I promise you the same. Buy it. This app is easily worth $20 or more (I paid much less).

Thank you for the application. Hope you guys keep adding more features in the future. With Kindest Regards-BR

Have to uninstall. I bought this when it was a paid app. Not going to upgrade. Ads are poison. Different app? Naw screw customers. Shame I couldn’t just have the app I paid for. Didn’t need updates. No need for developer response.

Not Accurate {read: dishonest?}. The definitions are not sourced from a sober reliable source like Merriam-Webster or Oxford. They come from Princeton University’s WordNet Lexical database. The words in this database are written by WordNet’s lexicographers—BIASED lexicographers perhaps. If you read definitions for words like “progressive” or “conservative” and then compare those definitions and synonyms to said sober sources, you will notice quite a difference. Dictionaries are supposed to be objective reference books and not a setting for individuals to weight the focus of a definition toward ones personal world view. That’s dishonest. Now Agile Tortoise might be basically honest programmers who, focused on the machinery of making an elegant app, did not consider the purity of their source. But as any programmer knows, garbage in, garbage out. This tool is passing through some garbage from WorldNet, which has some of ITS source from a common lexicon from New York University called COMLEX. So it is unclear where the pollution entered the system. It could have been a dishonest NYU student who put a personal touch in while working on the project, who knows. But you can see how disinformation slips in in large complicated systems where people are too busy to proctor the details. Just be forewarned to take some of these definitions with a grain of salt. This is no “American Heritage” dictionary.

Great WordNet resource. Terminology is based on the WordNet database. I’m not aware if WordNet is available in any other app but this one provides good access to it. The thing that makes this so valuable, though, is that it provides one-stop shopping to other resources. You can check out Webster’s, etymology, etc. from other web-based dictionary resources from within the app. Some words, particularly “street” or “urban” words, can have widely differing meanings depending on which source you use. This app lets you check various sources.

Appropriate. Reminds me of words I have forgot, introduces new word possibilities and helps me select appropriate word usage. Is there more to say?

Terminology meets my needs. I turn to Terminology whenever I am searching for a better word in some writing I am doing and it has never failed to provide good choices

QUICK GO 2 APP. Reliable, consistent, handy. Never once has it crashed, nor does it allow annoying ads. The one reason I believe it's the best dictionary App out there is because it's asscessible offline.

Research at your fingertips. I’ve been using this app for a year or so. It’s replaced the “lookup” function on my devices. The app offers more choices and better definitions on what you choose to lookup. I recommend it to others. It’s also worth getting the in app purchase. It’s a small amount but I figure every little bet helps the developers.

best app of its kind. been using this app since version 1.0 – in fact, I was their first customer believe it or not. for this reason, I thought it would be unethical to post a review since I had an unfair advantage over most people: I’ve been able to use this app a lot longer than them and therefore would have more to say about it. as you can tell, it’s very difficult to write a meaningful review anymore. the whole notion defies logic these days. so here’s the deal: you can try this app out and see if it does what you hope it can do, or just walk away now and forget about it entirely. whatever you do—

Too easy to click links. I’m just trying to scroll through the definitions for the word and I keep inadvertently clicking synonyms. This is a major usability issue. Makes it very frustrating for me to use. Hope it gets fixed soon.

List. My list of favs is growing and my friends are amazed!!

> search variations definition variations when you customize the web links integrated in the app!. April 16, 2021 I saw the option to review﹠felt compelled to contribute my thoughts. I installed Terminology in 2018﹠I use it throughout every day. In all sincerity, Terminology changed my life. I learned quickly that the app could be beneficial to my work. Once I setup the customizable links, my research was leaps﹠bounds ahead of prior weeks...I finished my tasks quicker﹠was more effective overall: mostly due to the customizable link feature that’s integrated in the app —it’s basically an extremely helpful shortcut, it eliminates the need to switch between multiple apps, or between Safari﹠Terminology...everything can be searched in Terminology without constant switching between app-apps﹠app-Safari or even app-notes app, it’s all eliminated when you use Terminology’s custom web links﹠the dictionary notes that you can edit on every single word you search. I’ve not seen any other app that even comes close to resembling Terminology, in its respective category, or even one of its features. 1) Is Terminology worthy of an install?? ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━YES!!

Every day. I use this app every day. I haven’t found another dictionary app that works better. I’m glad it’s still being maintained!

I’ve used this app for years, and it’s great. Dead simple, does what it says on the tin

Finally what it should be!. I bought this app a long time ago, and have had absolutely no use for it. It was generally more awkward to use than the built-in iOS dictionary or just jumping out to Safari, and if it had any hidden utility at all, it was buried under a stark, uninviting UI. I like supporting small developers, but always regretted throwing money at something I never used. PROBLEM SOLVED. The new share extension is pretty close to perfect, bringing together the app's native data, Apple's dictionary, Wikipedia, and Google in a UI that does exactly what I expect, as efficiently as possible. (The app itself is cleaned up, too, although I don't expect to spend much time in it.) And the new pricing model makes it a no-brainer to try. This is the kind of happy ending you hope for with App Store experiences. Highly recommended.

Outstanding. Subscriptions?. Whenever I use an incredibly useful app like this that doesn’t have a subscription model, I get a bit nervous, as I believe developers can’t afford to maintain an app indefinitely and effectively for free. So here’s a vote for the opportunity to help subsidize Terminology’s development.

Unresponsive. Have to type the word you’re looking for multiple times. According to this app the word “updated” does not exist. Really?

No more ads. They removed the ads on the free version. Back to being a fantastic dictionary app

Will charge you twice if you update.. I purchased the pro version of Terminology a few updates back - around their second version. After the update, features were revoked and I was seeing ads again. The Pro option doesn’t carry over. This is very stupid.

Spelling correction.. It helps my spelling..

I didn’t ask for an update. If you are going to charge for an update, release a new app. Don’t put ads into an app that I have already paid for.

Good App. Fun.. Interesting.. I use it all the time while watching movies etc..

Plenty of information. I like this app cause you don’t have to search pretty much anywhere else for alternative meanings, and well, pretty much anything else. Want to look up a movie title, or maybe an obscure definition that ends up being on urban dictionary (and completely not what you thought it meant, haha) then all you need is this app and add some actions to it. I do have to say that I’ve found quite a few of the more specific meanings and a lot of the example sentences a little dark. Maybe it’s just me, ha. Other than that, it’s a wonderful app to have!! I’d recommend it to anyone.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ great app indeed. It is

Universal, but Caveat Emptor. This is all you need for word research. However, if you bought it originally like me, you now have it as Free with ads. This is just rotten behavior. Loyal customers screwed. Won't be buying again from this team.

Can’t adjust volume iPhone XR. Can’t adjust volume in the app to actually hear the pronunciation of a word. My phone’s ringer is the only thing that adjusts when the app is open. Please fix this!

Awesome. This app is really cool. Nice UI and the custom links are killer. This is a one-stop-shop for dictionary and thesaurus from multiple sources. Also, app doesn’t collect data and the price is extremely reasonable. Well worth the money. Don’t hesitate, just do it!

Maybe start adding words ... Some words are not in the app, such as inbreathing. I had to go to the internet to look it up, which defeats the purpose of having the app.

I can't use it anymore. I got this app through Starbucks. I loved exploring words and phrases and learning how to use language more precisely. But now the Developer has folded in pestering ads that intrude and disrupt my train of thought as I try to leap through the skyscrapers of words and their meanings. The ads are annoying and I can't remember my inspiration when they block my path. I'm deleting sadly because the app no longer works for me. It was a wonderful experience while it lasted.

hello reader. you’re very attractive

Terminology is the best. The app is incredible! One of the best apps ever designed.

Bestest ever. I like the Oxford on macOS dictionary and all. Terminology, however, is absolutely my favorite reference because of the way it doesn’t only give you the definition you’re looking for, it actually helps you to know it’s the right word you need and if not, where to find it. I *had* to add Terminology dictionary to my Mac also (visit their web site to get it and see how). Love this app. Even though removing adverts from the free version isn’t something I felt any urge to do, I upgraded to the “Pro” version for no reason other than to support this developer as they are on the ball. Upgrade to iOS 11? Yep, there’s a Terminology for that.

Terminology is one of those apps you use so often you forget it’s not built in. Offline, smart clipboard integration, dark mode. Good common sense designed app. Thanks for a useful app.

Excellent user experience. The usability of this app is way better than the other options for dictionary apps in the App Store. Really like that the search text is displayed at the bottom of the screen for easy access with your thumb (just like the new Safari tabs). Also really like that I can quickly get access to other definitions with Apple Lookup, Google, or Wikipedia. This means I’m also have easy access to picture representations. All in all these features make the app fast to use. 💯

Still the best dictionary app!. Just wish there was a better way to integrate it into iOS but that is not Agile Tortoise’s fault. Thank you for the awesome app.

Reliable developer.. I bought this app about 2 years ago. However, I haven't used it because of lacking free storage (sadly, my phone has small memory. ), so I haven't noticed it has been changed to freemium. I was pretty shocked and sent an inquiry mail to developer. This developer always answers pretty fast... and also the developer gave me full explanation. I was touched little bit ;) When I buy an app, the sustainability of app is really important because some developers usually give up their app after few years. I think this developer has big responsibility on this app. Thanks, developer and thanks for the great app. I recommend you to use it☺️

Changes the way I write on iPad. With iOS 11, Terminology comes into it’s own. On an iPad Pro I have it side by side with my writing app and look up words as I go, or have it as a third window off screen that I slide into view when needed. Very nice. This app is the beginning of something great. It’s annoying, though, that it takes two presses to start a new search from a previous search. That baffles me, everything else is so well thought out. It’s worrying that the developer misses that. Otherwise, awesome. I’m looking forward to digging into the extensible options to see what else it can do for me.

In-app ad shakedown. App was a paid ad-free app, developer updated to include in-app advertising that is distasteful and intrusive. Requires in-app purchase to remove advertising. Effecting a shakedown of existing purchasers of their old app in order to force a paid upgrade to a new version is a 🍆 move (Tried to use Terminology to find an appropriately descriptive word here but couldn't bear using it after fourth full screen ad). I'm looking for an alternative paid-app where the developer treats customers better.

Unfair reviews. Just reading a couple of the previous reviews where they are accusing the developer of being dodgy etc because they are too stingy to pay less than ½ a single cup of coffee to unlock the new (and much improved) version of the app. This is the developer who created Drafts one of my favourite apps on iOS and now on MacOS. Dodgy couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve been using Terminology since Day 1 and love it. Next time I’m buying a cup of coffee I will think of what a great value this app is 😏

Dodgy. Added advertising to the paid app with an update, and charges paid users to remove adds. Very, very dodgy.

Great reference app. I stumbled on this while searching for a better dictionary app. Very well crafted. I like the integration with "look up", specific/general and wiki links. I would like to see the ability to edit your last searched word. If the word isn't found, perhaps it could default to the builtin look up iOS feature? It would also be great if the app integrated better with Bluetooth keyboards / smart keyboards. I would like to search and select my term by using the keyboard only. Other Nice to haves Search bar: ability to press enter to select the top result Definitions: ability to swipe right from the left edge to navigate the results backwards and likewise for forward direction Thanks

Not what I expected. I was hoping for a nice minimalist, highly powerful dictionary, but all I got was an over simplified word search engine. I guess if you're someone who likes to store certain words to view later, this app makes sense. But as a dictionary, it doesn't offer great definitions or thesaurus options.

I like this app - recommended. I like this app a lot and recently they reduced the amount of ads that appear

Indispensable. Terminology is one of the apps that i use almost daily when I'm writing or mind-mapping. It lets me • work offline as well • add my own notes for each term. This lets me to also add my own special-terms (ie: Documenting components of a product, application or procedure) • jump directly to a specific term in Terminology from my other apps that are URL aware • jump to any website or to my other URL aware apps by passing the term. ... My one request would be to detect URLs in my own custom notes. This would also have the added benefit of allowing me to use Terminology as my Shortcut Center ..

A Quality Thesaurus with Natural Language. The Terminology App is a fantastic tool for those people who miss the convenient dictionary functionality built into OSX. It draws from a number of sources including but not limited to Wordnik, Wikipedia, as well as it’s own database. It is quite responsive and always includes useful natural usage examples.

Wonderful dictionary. I really like this terminology dictionary which is accurate and convenient.

Surprise...ADS!!. This was a paid app when I bought it. Now it's free...with ads. Considering such detailed release notes, the developer should have mentioned this new "feature" for anyone wanting to update. I'm normally very impressed with this developer but I felt scammed by the surprise addition of ads. I hope this business model does not make its way to their other apps!

Near perfect. The only things that really bother me about this app are the app icon and the weird, lollipop-looking search symbol. Visually, it just seems a bit off. Otherwise it's perfect.

Worth purchasing the upgrade even if you have a previously purchased version. This is an excellent dictionary and you can set up so that you can easily look up your word in a great multitude of other references. I had a previously paid version and this one is a "free" application paying $1.99 in app purchase so that you can have it without ads and some handy extra features. The developer obviously worked hard on this version and I don't mind paying that small amount of money.

Removes need for several other apps.. Option to link to other sources on the web quickly for antonyms, etymology, etc. really sells this. I wish antonyms were on the main definition page, but everything else is fine.

Ugh, what a terrible approach.... Delete the version we paid for, then add ads to the new version without warning. I understand there are some nice additions to the new version, and $2 bucks is a nominal upgrade fee, but what a terrible way to treat existing customers. If they had simply added the new version as a separate app, I would have checked it out and almost surely purchased the new version to support continued development. Now I'm likely to just delete the app. Grrr.

Best of its kind. I've been using Terminology as long as I remember, at least 3 years or so. I loved its clean interface but didn't think much beyond that. 4.0 changed all that. Now, it is a suitable replacement for a couple of search apps on my home screen, Google and Wikipedia. Both apps have their advantages but they became bloated and lack of clear cache feature means each app occupies nearly a GB of space on my phone. Terminology still has awesome offline dictionary and thesaurus, as well as handy pronunciation audio. And best of all, the developer introduced in app free with ads, as well as inexpensive in app purchase to make the app even better (love the dark theme).

Have to pay again to get rid of ads. This is my first review of any app and sadly it has to be a negative one. I bought a previous version of terminology app. The investment comes with an expectation of perpetual access to the functionality I paid for. Instead, developer replaced the app I paid for with a new version requiring a new purchase without warning and offering no way to restore the old app. If you downloading this app for the first time and thinking of paying the developer my advice don't. In another year they'll pull the same stunt on you.

Suddenly, ads.. Purchased this app a while ago. Since the last update, I now have ads in the app - and must pay another $1.99 to remove them. Would not recommend anyone buy anything from a developer who does this kind of thing. Should have released a separate version of the app if he wanted to change his revenue model.

Super useful. If you write anything where you need to be clear, persuasive, or otherwise make an impression, you need this app. Very easy to use, lots of integration features, and fast. Whether it's a blog post, an email, a report, or a book, this app will help you find the right words to convey your meaning. Be warned, if you have any interest in the English language you can get distracted following word relationships and origins - fun for word nerds like me.

Outstanding dictionary and thesaurus app!. I use this app all the time. It's got all the power user features you could want (make sure you check out the 3D Touch features!). And I just discovered the share sheet where I can use Terminology within another app. It is awesome! I highly recommend it.

Perfectly blends with iOS Search. I can search directly from iOS search without opening the app. From there everything is easy.

One dictionary to rule all. The built-in dictionary is pretty decent, but what makes this app wonderful is the ability to run a multitude of scripts/actions with one click, if the word is not adequately defined in the built-in Dict. I.e. You can look it up on wiktionary, urban Dict., m. Webster, and dozens of others (customizable), and/or add it to your fav. Words list in Evernote, do a google search etc., almost anything you can do with a string in Drafts, another wonder-app by the same dev. Updates/support: as usual, top-notch, Ps: having usage examples/etymology in the dictionary would be great for offline-times when you can't look it up on alternate dictionaries, but this is a minor concern compared to everything this app offers.

Money hungry. I paid for this app already. Now they want to turn around and charge me again for an in-app purchase. Really!! And on top of this, they want to keep on flashing ads and ad popups until I give them more money for the in-app purchase! Just a matter of time that they will change this to a subscription or another way to CHARGE YOU AGAIN!! If they had negative stars, I would have selected that rating. Do not download this app!

Good but not perfect. If you type in a word with a single suggestion, it's no longer clear that it's a suggestion. Another flaw is that you can't add words (or if you can, I wasn't able to discover how) (If it could show up in "lookup" that would be a great feature) Also, I don't like the large ads popping up, which is annoying because I paid $2 already. I would pay the additional $2 for the upgrade, but given the two major flaws, I'm unwilling just yet. Fix the flaws, add flash card capability for "hearted" words and you'll get 5 stars from me. This company has other cool products that are 5-star.

Pay again for an app with insipid adds.. Bought this app when it cost money and now they are asking for more?! The reason I purchased the app was to reward the developer for a pay model rather than a BS free app I needed to unlock. Unfortunately what I am left with is a BS app I paid for that needs to be unlocked. And just to be completely clear, the app developer's business model or poor planning to recoup costs is NONE OF MY BUSINESS. My business is the add-free app I purchased for money. So, one star until it is resolved.

App on 1st screen. This app is awesome, I use it for long time and it's pity to see no review and no rating for this app. I use it as thesaurus and it's so helpful in my study and work. Keep it up, improve the ui, please if possible.

My go-to dictionary/thesaurus. So much to appreciate about this app. The word associations, direct links to further exploration on websites, and the clean design are all great. Nothing I don't need, yet everything that I do. Agile Tortoise is a wonderful developer. Just an update: After contacting the developer about a quirk in the app, the problem was solved in the following update. Wow. Great app and a responsive developer. Guess what? I'm sticking with Terminology.

Fine app but now it charges early buyers in order to remove ads. I purchased this app a while ago. It would rate 4 stars (good but not fantastic) for its functionality but I deducted 2 stars because of the new pricing model. The latest update is now showing ads and asking me to pay to remove those ads. This seems unfair for people who bought this app before this new model went into effect. I would not mind paying again if the update features were that great but I do not think they are.

Spectacular. I'm so impressed with the new version, and paid the $2 upgrade within 5 minutes of updating. I feel bad for all the pitiful moaners that can't see the brilliance of the new design is well worth a meager two bucks! Ugh, people are so frustrating. I have several of this developers apps and whenever I've tweeted a question he's answered (which is a difficult method to manage support, so bonus points for that). The level of integration and extensibility is really top notch, and Terminology shines on iOS 10. I, personally, couldn't be more pleased with this 5 star app.

Excellent. I always liked Terminology's functionality but I didn't care for the user interface. However, the UI is dramatically better in version 4. It's fantastic - more attractive and easier to use.

Amazing Language Browser. My fast at-hand iOS dictionary/thesaurus ... Great new look! If you're a writer or language lover, this app is a fascinating tool to explore word relations.

Amazing research app!. *update* I wanted to make one more note as to how much I love this app! The latest update is wonderful! Thank you guys for your work! You're a researcher / writers dream come true! (Previously written): I am an avid writer working on my 3rd book and while writing may be my passion, I am equally as passionate towards researching and learning. This app is not only a dictionary but a thesaurus and a place to make sure you're saying what you want in the best way. Love love love this app!

Pointless. I can just open Safari and type what I'm looking for quicker, this is pointless and not as good as other dictionaries, the user interface isn't fast to use, it doesn't have words other dictionaries have, for example discretization, a math term, dictionary app has it but terminology doesn't, there's no pronunciation, and it just refers you to a web browser. I don't understand why other people like it

Missing focus on word search. The word search function is too cumbersome! You have to hit the magnify glass in lower left corner, then you need to delete previous entry to type your new word. You the get promoted for dictionaries and if you hit the X button to search a new word you get prompted if you want to delete the history. UGH! The UI focus of the app should be about search. Make it always visible, make it so you don't have to backspace over previous word. X should clear and not delete history. Dictionary setup should be configured at install. Search results on words not found should deliver Google search result which does the best job of finding misspelled words. Apple's built in dictionary should be an option, along with the ability to cross check user word additions. Exposing UI to fix mistakes would be huge competitive advantage. Push your ad free API for other dictionary apps to integrate.

Screwed Over -- DISGUSTED w/Dev. If this is truly an UPGRADE then make it a NEW VERSION like every other honest dev does. "Update" DELETES previous PAID version (now unrecovarable), replaces it with "AD SUPPORTED" version. Didn't ask me, if I wanted to have ads, just shoved them down my throat. And now they demand a ransom to stop the ads. Their excuse? "We need to fund future development." BS. Shakedown, nothing more. Adding a crappy UI, and ads is NOT an update/upgrade, NOT worth paying for. I suppose Interact (which I bought last week) can look forward to same treatment? Ditto for Drafts? Tally, also? Hey! If it works this time, why not with those apps also?

Three stars is generous. The basic app didn't have the first few words I searched--and the OED extension (i.e. their site, with a big ad) wouldn't load. When the word could be found in the app itself, it came with minimal info/no etymology. Deleted.

Thanks for buy, but now it's free and has ads you have to pay to remove. I bought this app, as simple as it was, and liked it. Now because they did an update they want more money. Sorry, not going to happen. I will not trust them with my money again. How long until I have to pay them a subscription or more money to look up more than 2 words in a day? Lost a customer.

Bait and switch. This app was useful, but the developers have decided to change it to free and ad supported. This would be fine if the developers recognized the people who already purchased it for real money and did not expect them to pay again for the same app. If they wanted to charge for the new features, they should have done so without removing the perfectly functional ad free app I paid for. If you haven't bought this app yet, don't. The developers can't be trusted and will remove functionality you paid for so you will pay them again.

Remarkable Dictionary App. Although Apple's built in dictionary is not horrible, it is rather lacking in functionality, something that this app abounds in. With this app, it is extremely easy to look up a word, find synonyms and related words, and do more with the action sheet functionality of the app. I use it almost every day to increase my vocabulary and I highly recommend it!

Absolutely Essential. I love this app and can't believe the amount of negative reviews on here! You pay to remove the ads, how hard is that to figure out? And it's more than worth a few extra bucks. I'm constantly referring to this app throughout the day as I write. And I love the new color scheme as well. Great job and thanks for all your hard work putting it together.

Useful. Far superior to the built in iOS dictionary. Being able to search in multiple resources is very useful.

Developers That Listen!. I hardly ever write reviews for apps. I could count the number of reviews I've written on one hand and still have fingers to spare. I need to be really impressed by an app or app developer to get me to write a positive review. This is one of those times. Agile Tortoise listens to its customers. I'm talking Savage Inc. (developers of the art app Procreate, the finest app on the App Store in my opinion) levels of dedication and care. I submitted very specific feedback on a very specific area of Terminology not even a week ago (seriously, it was Sunday). I saw there was an update today for Terminology and I was floored to see my specific request fulfilled and mentioned in the change log. So thank you, Agile Tortoise. You've made my list of top tier developers and Terminology has made my list of "never delete" apps.

Great!. Used to be the dictionary app I used all the time, but the improved integration with iOS and the easier access to websites makes it even better. This will be the third time I've paid for the app, because I'm happy to support its development, as it's gotten better each time. This is from a developer who _tries_.

Absolutely great for word nerds. The dictionary aspect of this app is solid, but what makes it truly great is it's extensibility. Paired with apps like Wordvault and web services like Etymonline, it becomes a very natural workflow hub for researching and remembering words.

The best just keeps getting better. Terminology has always been the best app for looking up definitions and finding related words and version 4 makes it even better. I love the ability to add notes to words and share definitions quickly and easily. I'm excited for new actions, too. Another solid update from one of the most trusted developers out there!

Nice app but has privacy flaw. I like the customizability of this app, so I can add in various dictionaries and reference tools. Having Urban Dictionary as an option really helps with words and phrases I might not find in a regular list of words! But, I really dislike the app's behavior of automatically pasting in whatever is on my clipboard upon launch. I know the intent is convenience, so I can copy a word to look up and not have to bother pasting it into this app. The problem is I might have other things on my clipboard. For instance I recently launched this app and it automatically pasted in one of my passwords! I wish I could turn that feature off.

Some interface refinements. Somewhere along the way, the user interface was cleaned up, although I still refer the pre-fixed sparse looking version. At least it's less cluttered. These guys do pay attention which is a good thing. Adding back some stars and plunking down my coffee money for the Pro version because Agile Tortoises need to eat too. Thanks guys!

Evolution in Action. I have had Terminology since its first release. It started off os a mildly interesting tool that was maybe a little confused as to what its main purpose was. It has been refined and strengthened to become the ultimate word reference engine: built-in dictionary and thesaurus that has increased in sophistication, with quick linkages to web-based resources. I think it is an essential tool for writers of all levels. As for complaints about the new add-on cost for ad-free operation, it is very nominal and worth every penny if you use it daily. Nor are the ads particularly invasive or is the tool in any way crippled if you are too cheap or unrealistic about the cost of quality software.

Love it. I find myself researching words all the time now. It's a way better experience than a website.

Best dictionary app on iOS. The extensibility and flexibility of the app is lifesaving if you prefer different dictionaries. I can switch between Merriam-Websters and Oxford in a flash. Look up functionality in v4 is welcomed! 4 stars because I paid for this app in the past, but it is now free and I am forced to pay the $2 IAP for extra functionality and no ads. Gladly paid for it because the app is awesome and the developer needs to eat, but this is just bad practice and an annoying trend to charge extra for an already bought app.

Ads for previous purchasers. I bought this app at the end of 2015. There were no ads in it. Now there are ads, and those who previously spent money are now being monetized. I understand that the price tag is small and developers who are not paid cease development. But what can be perceived as a 'bait n switch' of selling people an ad-free product, then changing one's tune after the fact makes for unhappy customers. Anyone who does this should get dinged, regardless of company or pricetag. Had you left the previous version alone and released a separate version going forward, that would have been a different story.

Lame. Most important: NO PRONUNCIATION. And I've been told that it has seamless integration with the "define" menu, but still NO. As for the "spotlight integration" it does have, but without showing any definition, so you have to click a word then redirect to the app to see the definition. Lastly, deceiving promotion with the "handoff support", the Mac version is not a true application at all so you cannot sync your bookmarks or use handoff with you Mac. If you're expecting the features above, you should quit purchasing this app. This app is worse than WordBook. Lame.

Not cool Agile. So they make a "new" app (except it's the same as before just with some new features) and they want people who bought the app to pay again to continue using the app? I have liked Agile's apps, mainly drafts, and if they would have made this a separate app (while allowing users who paid for it previously to keep using a non-updated version if they wanted) I may have purchased it. Taking away the old app that we already paid for and then forcing us to pay again or else see ads? Not cool Agile. I expect better from you guys. Instead of paying to remove the ads I'll just remove the app from my devices. Next time, do what you did when you upgraded drafts. Give users the option to pay for the additional functionality but allow them to keep using the previous app (without additional functionality) if they choose. I happily paid for the new version of Drafts, and again would have paid for this app as well had you followed the old model.

Seamless integration to "define" menu. Select a word. Tap "define". Tap "Terminology". And you're in the rich, informative dictionary/thesaurus rather than iOS's sometimes lacking dictionary. Very pleasant experience. Very useful content.

Wonderful app and customer service. This is a wonderful app that replaces my dictionary and thesaurus app. Love love love! Excellent customer service! I had an issue and the developer got right back with me.

Indispensable. Great word reference tool. I'm not a writer but I find myself drafting an email and wanting to use a word that I'm not 100% on its meaning. Enter Terminology. It has great research tools that go beyond just looking up the definition. And it plays nice with URL schemes (Launch Center Pro FTW!) Recommended.

I like it. It's not as bad as the reviews intend it to be. At least for me, this app is useful and informative. It not only gives you the definition, but all the words relating to it.

Favorite Dictionary App. I use this app all the time when writing to make sure I both spell the word right and to get suggestions for other similar words that may fit better. The app is easy to use and gets frequent updates so it is improving all the time.

Awesome. Agile Tortoise makes the best apps (this and Drafts). Terminology is the only dictionary app I need now because the action menu incorporates the others. Try it—it's amazing.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!. Everybody loves this app, but I'm just not seeing it. The UI is unintuitive: these grey bars that appear on either side of the screen are just dead space, and that 'x' in the corner is really more like a back button that deletes words from your search history (and your favorites (????)). Am I missing something about this extensibility? How is it more than an app googling a word for me? Worst of all, many of the definitions are exactly the same.
