ElevenReader - Read Text Aloud Comments & Reviews 2026

Brilliant App, Two Core Features Missing. I’ve been using this app extensively. The range of voices are amazing and while I love audiobooks on their own, being able to follow the text in real time has helped me digest some harder reads by both seeing and hearing in tandem. Can’t recommend this app enough, and I only have two suggestions that would make this a 5 star. 1. Sleep timer! 2. Manual bookmarks. I know the app in theory saves where you left off, and that’s reflected and updated in the percentage complete in the list of files - however (maybe it’s due to weird formatted epubs? either way) a way to just manually set a bookmark for peace of mind would be great Apple Books and their infinite iCloud syncing wisdom offers this, and I use it extensively for the same reason. When the auto-spot-save works, it’s great. But when it fails once and you have to figure out where you were, you never trust it again. I’ve had a few epubs in Eleven Reader completely start from the top after being nearly 50% through a book. Don’t even mind if that happens, but if I could jump right back to where I manually left a bookmark, that would be soooo clutch. Anyway, keep up the amazing work.

An overall great app with quality voices but…. I absolutely love this app. There are no hidden fees, no ads, and no microtransactions, which is a refreshing change. The voices are also high-quality, as you’d expect from 11 Labs. However, a few minor issues prevent me from giving it a full five-star rating. One issue I’ve encountered is that when I try to quickly switch from one document to another while it’s reading, the app sometimes reverts back to the previous document mid-reading, which can be frustrating. Another problem is that the app tends to crash frequently. Recently, I’ve noticed it crashing even more often, though I’m unsure if it’s due to the number of documents I have or because of the version of iOS 18 I’m currently running. Despite these problems, which I believe can be fixed, the app has a lot of potential. I would love to see future updates that allow for sharing and saving readings, as well as a more straightforward way to clear the history. I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. Overall, this app is great, and I genuinely enjoy using it when it works properly. I hope the developers can address these minor issues soon, and once they do, I will happily update my review to five stars.

Iconic voices say the word um in place of some words in text files that I read.. This works well. The buffer needs to be fixed, it takes too long to start reading. Also, the iconic voices for some unexplained reason say the word um when it comes to curse words. so to recap, the buffering needs to be faster when opening up a file, or nonexistent. And the iconic voices need to stop replacing words with the word um in the text. This happens with certain text files, Harry Potter fan files that I read that have cussing in the stories. That's what I'm talking about.

Best reader ever!!! Still needs some features. The reader is the best I’ve tried. It only lcks what others have: The name of the uploaded files is odd, a puece of random chars and not even the original name and cannot be changed. This fix is a must. I’ve uploaded a bunch of files and I don’t lnow which is which. It also need a search tool for files and an “recently opened” option, as well as search by author, title, subject. And/or the posibility of group them by labels or folders.

More people should know about this.. I feel like more people should know about this. The voices are perfect, it is exactly like a person reading. I wish the app was able to display images on epubs or pdfs, or allow us to customize the font, its size, maybe to rotate the screen. Nonetheless, it is perfect.

I hope they read this. This application has a lot of potential. It is one of the only reader apps where the text to speech feature takes center stage and I love that. There are a number of usability problems right now that make it subpar when compared to its competitors, though. To start, The iOS share functionality is not fast enough. I need to quickly store articles when I find them and this application does all loading in the foreground. Additionally, it assumes I want to read the article immediately, which is not how most reader apps work. The premise behind most reader apps is that you share an article to the app and read it later. The next problem this app faces is the lack of continuous play or auto play. This makes it extremely difficult to use the app while driving or exercising. Overall I am satisfied with the app and am cautiously optimistic that the developers will make it easier for users to provide feedback. Developer team-please reach out to me, I would love to provide more feedback but the website has not made it easy to get in contact.

Incredible App. I have never written an app review before but this one deserves it. I have tried about 15 different Ai readers and this one is by far the best. Not only is it free with no tricks to get you to pay for a subscription but the quality is amazing. I swear it’s getting better and better the more I use it. It understands tone, humor, expressions, inflection, pacing and more. It doesn’t sound like a flat robot repeating the text like so many other apps. It sounds like a person more than any app I have tried, including the expensive ones. Outstanding job developers!

Ios 18 bug. This app is awesome and I love all the natural voices for reading articles from the web. However, since iOS 18, there is a bug where when you try to share an article, the app is not loading it just crashes. I hope this can get fixed soon. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic AI Voice Experience – Highly Recommend!. The ElevenLabs iOS app is a game-changer for anyone looking to explore realistic and dynamic AI voices! The interface is user-friendly, and the quality of the voice synthesis is incredible—it feels like having a natural conversation. Whether I’m using it for creative projects, enhancing productivity, or just experimenting with different voices, the app delivers consistently high-quality results. I love the range of customization options, allowing for personal touches that make each interaction feel unique. Overall, ElevenLabs has created an impressive tool that brings AI voice technology to an accessible, everyday level. Highly recommended!

Nice, but HAUNTED?!. I wish I was over-exaggerating. The voices sound real which is a plus. But as I continue on my document, there’s times in the audio where the woman’s voice makes weird noises such as screams at the end of a paragraph. I brushed that off but then I ran into a long stretch of audio where there was loud churning (industrial? Mechanical? EERIE!) noises in the background of the audio. All the while, the usually calm and conversational tone of the woman’s voice became rushed, light and breathless, like if you made someone read something when they were scared and tried to hurry along with the dialogue. Her voice even turned into a man’s voice for a sentence. It’s literally the stuff you see in horror movies. Other than that, there is more buffering the further you get along. But the haunted voice creeps me out and is probably the main problem. It’s not even October yet 💀🙃. Other than that, the app is nice.

Great app. Freezing problem solved. I think this app is great. I’ve used it so much in the last few weeks since I downloaded it. There had been a problem which many reviewers (including me) discussed, but it was solved yesterday. Five stars. You’ll love it.

New favorite app. I’m constantly listening to books so a reader app is essential to my life. I am so happy I found this app. It works exactly how I need it to. I have tried every reader app in the App Store and this one has outdone them all. My only wish is that you could import ebup files and it would be prefect. (Note to developers: it tells me my file couldn’t be processed and check my internet when I try to upload an epub file. What am I doing wrong?)

By far the best I’ve used. I tried speechify. I love it but they have a word limit and as of today I have 18 days until my words renew. I’m so annoyed with it and I paid for it so I went searching for a high quality ai voice program to read my files. The voices are great, the program itself makes the file readable on the phone so you can follow along, change the speed, change the look (light mode, dark mode and contrast) and it’s very easy to use. Best part, right now it’s 100% free with no limits. As much as I love speechify, with the word limit and the hassle of waiting for someone in customer service to answer me to add more words (for the 3rd time in 24 hours) I’m going to unsubscribe as it’s a lot of wasted money for something that this app does just as well with just as amazing of voices. Thank you so much for something that will allow me to read when I have a medical condition that won’t allow me to read on my own.

It is great when it works. The voice is quite natural and pleasant to listen to, and there’s plenty of options. Sadly the stability has been in free fall since the launch. Now it often does not continue loading as you listen, and you’ll be stuck with long pauses of silence (usually between 30 seconds and several minutes), which is a shame because I really want to use this but it is not quite usable in its current state.

Finally!. I have been on a search for a text to speech app like this for ages that wasn’t flooded with ads, had 100 word limits or $150 a year subscriptions, that also had quality voices that were pleasant to listen to. My search is over. This is now my goto TTS App.

Huge accessibility win. As a legally blind user this is a dream come true. Elevenlabs has by far the most natural sounding computer voices and to be able to paste in any text and have it read by my favorite voices is beyond compare. I interpret the phrase “any length of text” and “import epubs” as “be able to read books you couldn’t before.” I’m still half in disbelief that this is some sort of bug and my usage limit will update in a few more hours but right now it seems like elevenlabs are going in on the side of valuing accessibility and I am in the target audience for that so I really really appreciate it ❤️

Look No Further!. This is the app that uses the highest quality AI voices. It feels like an audiobook, which I’d exactly what I need to stay focused to work on my hefty reading load. The one feedback I’d provide is to enable an ability to deselect headers and footers from page to page. Other than this minor detail, this is a perfect app.

Recent update broke some things. Before my audio could go for a good few hours without any issue. But with this recent update my audio just keeps pausing every few paragraphs!! And an error pops up at the top of the screen saying something like error audio could not load or along those lines..not sure what happened but I hope it gets fixed soon.

I suffer with it because the voice qualities is so high. I have dyslexia, and use text to speech constantly. I’m used to what standard OS voices sound like and did fine until I used this app. The quality of the voice is so high, that I suffer along with using the app. It fails constantly. Stops in the middle of a text. Takes five minutes to load something that I’ve been reading. or never loads it and I put the content in another reader so I can continue. Or loses its place and I have to locate where I last was. But I keep coming back because of the voice quality. I so wish the app was up to the quality of the voices. I provide assistive technology service to school districts. I’ve determined that I cannot recommend this app for students because it’s too inconsistent. They may spend as much time waiting for something to load, as they have to read it. Please, please, please put the time into the app like you have into developing the voices. Then this will be incredible.

“Game-Changing Genius: The Ultimate App for Curious Minds”. I never write app reviews. Like, ever. But ElevenReader? Oh, this app deserves a standing ovation, a round of applause, and maybe a five-star Michelin review while we’re at it. Here’s the deal: truly amazing apps are like unicorns—rare, magical, and often not free. But ElevenReader? It’s here, it’s free (for now—knock on wood), and it’s nothing short of revolutionary. This is for the wanderers, the seekers, the insatiably curious minds who devour knowledge like it’s candy. If you’ve ever dreamed of turning mountains of content into bite-sized, manageable pieces, consider your wish granted. ElevenReader takes the chaos of podcasts, articles, books, audiobooks—basically any format you throw at it (PDFs, ePubs, MOBIs, even voice memos)—and transforms it into an effortless, seamless intake experience. Uploading? A total breeze. Whether it’s a video from your camera roll, a web link, or a dusty old PDF lurking in your iCloud, ElevenReader handles it with a single click. But the real chef’s kiss moment? The AI-powered podcast feature. This wizardry takes your content and distills it into the most concise, digestible snippets—perfect for anyone with a packed schedule or a short attention span. It’s not just an app; it’s a game-changer. A mind-reader. A miracle worker for the chronically curious. If you’re ready to say goodbye to overwhelm and hello to clarity, ElevenReader is the hero you’ve been waiting for.

5 stars for simplicity - good. Simple and also glad there’s well funded competition that will finally take out speechify that appears according to reviews to be employing dark patterns to allegedly scam their own customers who cancel subscriptions but still get charged and support doesn’t do to solve this

Help this app get known!. I’ve never written a review, but I want to support the developers of this app. I don’t know how they’ve made it completely free, but I hope they are able to keep it that way. The ai voices read so nicely, easily comparable to the more well known (but expensive) reading apps. I highly recommend this app for those who prefer listening to text, and wish they could listen to pdfs and such. Thank you ElevenLabs! I now plan on using this for the rest of college.

Game Changing. This app has completely changed the game for learning. I honestly really hope they keep this affordable, because this opens up avenues for learning via audio without having to spend a fortune on other apps/services like Audible. Would be 5 stars if bugs were fixed; Currently I’m experiencing an issue where upon opening a book/PDF the app just instantly crashes. Not sure what that is. And every now and then the voices tend to degrade, and American sounding voices tend to skew into a radio-quality, British accent like Winston Churchill.

App Force Closing/Won’t Remain Open #. Hi there to the Eleven Labs Team, First wanted to say that you all are fantastic for your work. Recently, there must have been a bug introduced into the Reader iOS App. It won’t remain open, and closes immediately after attempting to open then app. If there is a quick fix to this, it would be most appreciated! Thank you all again, and keep on developing!

First impressions: Some issues and not super convenient UI. The voices sounded pretty good, especially the “narrator” ones. It’s not handling smart quotes correctly. It converted the apostrophe in “I’m” into a weird character and completely botched the pronunciation of that word. The UI could be optimized more in order to be truly useful as an assistive speaking device. Folders, ability to edit existing “text” items, better predictive text, translation, etc.

Amazing App. One suggestion.. Life saver for ADHD. By far my favorite app that I have come across as far as speech quality goes. One recommendation. Can you keep the original pdf layout as an option? Keep everything else the sign (highlight paragraph and word). I would just like to follow along with the pdf in the way it was created. Otherwise it’s. 10/10 for me without question. Thank you again for the stellar work you’ve done to help people like me who have trouble concentrating.

Please add tutorial after big app changes. The latest update is a complete revamp, so I'd have appreciated some transition text, like "where did my voices go?" (can't seem to find the one I used). Also the iOS share widget no longer seems to do anything, the shared article doesn't show up anywhere in the app.

This app is OUTSTANDING!. This app is by far the best for having texts, articles, stories, read to you! It used to be glitchy when it first came out, but the updates have been fantastic! If you like reading articles, I would suggest trying the voice titled “Christopher - nice guy next door.”However, there are many to choose from! It’s so interesting how the AI voices can now read with inflection and prosody like never before! It’s very easy to copy and paste a link from a website into the app and have it read to you. I can’t say how much this app has changed my enjoyment of reading things online. Thank you so much for creating it! Chad

Better with every update. One request.. Please allow the user someway of telling the AI what things to omit from reading. FOr example, some books that I’m reading that use references have the reference number read out loud every time. One of my books, and I’m only a quarter into it, already has 357 references. So every time Bill reads the book to me, every minute or two I hear him say out loud: 351, then a minute later at 352, then a minute later 353. So please find a way to omit reference numbers. Thank you so much for the bookmark feature!

Would be great if it worked. This was great while it worked —but it stopped working. Perhaps it only works for short texts. It will begin reading longer texts, but will freeze and appear to be loading something that never arrives, even though the entire text is downloaded and visible. Are these growing pains? Are servers getting inundated with requests? Is there a hard limit on words, or time, or something else? It there a glitch that the next update will fix? There’s no warning, notice, or feedback, and there’s no way to set bookmarks to find where you were before it stopped working. For any long form content, that’s very frustrating — the user doesn’t want to sink a few hours into a text only to have the app freeze, without even having a way to restart from the right point. Please fix these problems - the promise of this app is great, and should not be lost to frustration with glitches.

Best in its category. Looking for a free, full featured, document to voice reader? This is the one! The amount of different voices and the quality of them is simply staggering. I wanted to be able to turn my epub book files into audiobooks that I can listen to in bed, on the go, or whenever the mood hits me. This app. does that with ease! There are probably a hundred or so voices you can select from and you can change them on the fly. Listen to it reading your document in bed and set an easy timer that will stop reading in a few minutes to an hour, or even when it reaches the end of the current chapter. Found the voice that fits your document perfectly? Then you can output the reading as an audio file that you can share with anybody. I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of additional features that might be added to the app. and haven’t been able to come up with a thing, it is so full featured in its current form. This is a 5 star app., all the way!

Broken. The latest version will not make it passed the voice selection screen. Please fix, I love this app! I downloaded the app again. This time I made it passed selecting a voice. Then I loaded a document, and it only reads a paragraph, then stops. Or it only reads a random amount of words, then stops. Also, there are no apparent options for highlighting spoken words. Please fix!!!

Good start, long way to go. ElevenLabs has the best quality voices on the market. However, almost nothing works properly. Linking to a document usually doesn’t work and usually butchers the layout styling. Uploading a pdf doesn’t work, and just presents the file names of images. It’s a mess right now. However, I am hopeful for the future when they add basic functionality like a native Google Drive uploader, as all the other similar apps have.

THE BEST FREE reading app I’ve found!. This app is so good! I’m using it for fan fictions and all u do is download the fic and share it into the app and it turns them into an audio book the more u use the app the BETTER IT GETS! the voices are so natural I love it! 5 stars!! I’ve been looking for a free app like natural reader for ages! This is the one!

please read!!!. alright i read a lot but sometimes the books i read are chunky and i don't always want to bring them out and about, dinners, friends houses, etc. as a teenager, airpods are super normal to have in so i immediately tried looking for an app that would scan books and read it aloud to me! now i went on a full dive and downloaded apps that were popular, they were horrible, either limiting your listening with okay voices or unlimited listening with really bad voices and horrible subscription fees over $100? did some more research and found this app, let me tell you this is the holy grail. best voices, idek if there is a premium but im happy with the free and i love this app. i think its amazing, voices are great, no limit on listening i dont think. everything is great.

Everything is amazing except for one thing. Hey guys, I just wanted to say that this app is amazing and it’s super helpful for me. I am completely blind so having something like this is super useful. The new voice is that were added, though I’m not able to access them when I upload something to read. They’re all really good and I would love to use them for my textbook and other stuff but i’m unable to access them.

Reader by 11 labs. This app is beyond the best I've used in several years. I know this app was made not so long ago, but this is a game changer. For one thing, it's free. Another thing I like is that there are some really really good hypo voices. I mean just thinking about it not every app you find on the App Store can compare to this bad boy right here. I mean, no bugs, none of that also, there may be some errors when you generate your books, that's just a server side thing. I haven't had any network issues using this app, and I highly recommended you choose this app to read your books, news, stories, anything you want to read, this app is for you. I know some good apps that do Text to Speech reading, but the other apps I used doesn't compare to this one. Several apps I use, their voices are natural but not good enough for AI the iPhone voices can be useful for VoiceOver on your iPhone but not when you read text. It's robotic, and you need something that will knock you off to sleep within an hour or so. all I'm saying is, five star review all the way

Amazing Tool!. I love the app! It's been incredibly useful. However, I hope they add the feature to export audios. I really don't want them to follow Evernote's path of holding content hostage unless I pay. Currently, on Evernote, I have to navigate through three screens just to access one of my oldest notes without upgrading. This is a bad practice that turned my appreciation for Evernote into a real disappointment. If you offer a paid feature, just please don’t hold what people already created hostage unless they pay. Keep the free features generally accessible.

Best Reader, only one “complaint”. This is by far the best pdf/article to text reader I’ve used. Including over speechify. It has very nice flow, I only wish it would not censor some words that have no issue in context. Example: “naked scarped cliffs” in Candide by Voltaire — censoring naked. And sometimes it cuts off before the end of a paragraph and makes unnatural pauses which can be a little jarring. A feature? Recommendation: allowing the user to specify things to skip over when reading. I read a lot of physics and chemistry books, and sometimes under figures they have an equation like v -> u+e++ or something to that effect. If I could specify the things to ignore and have it apply to the rest of the book that would be immaculate. In any case, my one “complaint” is that there aren’t more professional voices. I have been listening to everything in Sir Olivers voice, I love the transatlantic accent and the old fuzzy microphone. More voices that are as clear and sharp as the celebrity/radio icons and I’d be willing to pay for them if I’m being honest, so long as the quality is maintained. Great work! I will happily subscribe if it sticks to this kind of ease of use and quality. The blog reader is astounding too, I thought it was going to be a mess for sure. If you’re on the fence, just try this app!

Error making read document. "We've been notified, and are investing the issue." I tested and the voices do work once you choose one and it did read the sample books but when I tried importing two separate epub files I ran into this issue. I'm sure the app is great just fix this bug I've ran into.

Blown Away. I’ve tried a lot of text to soeech apps… they usually sound robot-like and I quickly get turned off by them. This app blows everything else out of the water. It just sounds so natural, no matter what voice/language it’s in. This app has helped me a ton with reading / listening faster. And the import capabilities are awesome. Highly reccomend!

An amazing app if issues get fixed. As others have said, the app is excellent when it works doing exactly what you want it to with a nice interface. You can have any article or file read to you at the speed of your choice in an AI generated voice of your choice. Eleven labs AI readers sounds completely natural and high quality. If you leave off midway through and article you can simply return later and pick up where you left off while reading along if you like. The problem is, it simply fails too often at present. I’ve used the app 7 times and it has not worked 3 of them. The text loads and the AI reader loads for the first 1-2 minutes then halts. Probably the server can’t handle the request, sometimes you get an error message sometimes you don’t but you’ll just have to try again in a few hours because it will not proceed. If this issue gets fixed I would absolutely love the app and use it all the time. As is, I can’t use it because the convenience of having the article read to me as opposed to reading it is outweighed by the inconvenience of the unreliability that it will work. I’ve stopped using for now but will try again in a few months to see if the issue is handled.

Wonderful App. I’ve be using this app for a few months and have loved every minute. I have a large collection of ePub books that I had been pushing off reading (who has the time?) but since discovering this app, I’ve been able to begin tackling them and making some great progress. The default voice library is great and the extended library provides a vast array of styles and languages that provide more personality - incredible stuff! I really appreciate that there are no hidden fees or subscription requirements, and will continue raving about the app to anyone that will listen!

Lots of potential, some key things missing. You can already tell this app has the potential to be incredible. There are a few key pieces I think still between it and that potential. 1) Pronunciation substitution — other apps allow you to specify an alternative spelling you want to phonetically replace a particular word or sequence of characters whenever it appears. Especially for ethnic words and names that may not work right away with the AI, this is a critical (and easy) feature — just let the user highlight a word and save an alternative that the app replaces it with behind the scenes. This is what currently is keeping me from using it; I don’t want to switch until I can get it to roughly say my name. 2) The ability to queue a next item or items to continue to after the current one ends. 3) Features for organizing your readings. 4) Bookmarks. 5) Search within a reading. (I’m sure this one is coming, it’s just a big pain point until then.) 6) It’d be nice to be able to give more fine grained times for the sleep timer (to the minute). Looking forward to future development and hoping these are coming soon.

Amazing when it works. This app would be my favorite for text to speech if it only had two things: Better audio player that can bookmark /save position. Ability to convert and save offline. I suspect that will reduce the issues with the emreqder randomly stopping after some sentences.

No cloning? Bummer.. Certainly the best quality txt to voice on the App Store, and free for now. Can’t go wrong.. Buuuuuuut cloning. Isn’t that… what you specialize in is voice cloning? I’d pay. I don’t want a corporate or sanitized voice. They do sound good, like in a commercial or professional production. But I hate voices like that because they’re soulless feeling and I can’t listen for very long. Removing the imperfections I suppose it’s sort of like vinyl vs CD. CDs are better… but our ears prefer vinyl due to the imperfections. The wow and flutter of a cassette tape also. Would lop of my right arm for an app that could read to me with cloned voices as good as characterai voice clone (not available in this region, so VPN required.) go check out the voices on there, they’re all community clones. Maybe they should just add a txt to voice feature, lol. I went as far as trying to create a txt to speech chat bot but it didn’t cooperate.

Free and Good!. I have to read a LOT of wordy and exhausting programs for work and they’re overwhelming at times. This app is so helpful!! The voices and tracker helps me stay focused and retain the information while not being robotic and insufferable. Honestly, this app is on point with Natural Reader without the recurring costs. Thanks guys!!

Absolutely unbelievable. This has quickly become one of my favorite apps. For years, I tried their competitors and they were always meh. Today, I am literally catching up on the news tt I never have time to read and it’s been read by Burt Reynolds. .. Who’s been dead for three years now? Talk about living in the future.

A gift to humanity…. Over the past few years I’ve tried app after app that would do something similar to this, they all fall short and each come with hefty subscription fees. Just last week, I decided to look up and see if anything new in the space has come out, to my surprise I found this magnificent app and have finished 3 books since. It’s been a lovely tool in order for me to get through my backlog of 150+ books from the PI authors like Mike Hockney, Adam Weishaupt, Michael Faust, Thomas Stark… etc. that don’t have audiobook companions. The voices are top notch and a pleasure to listen to. I love that the words are highlighted and you can follow along as it’s read to you. I hope this remains free for the foreseeable future, or at most a simple one time purchase. Subscription fatigue is becoming overwhelming nowadays. If there was one issue that I had to comment on it would be that the sync feature between devices could use a little work. I often switch from my iPad to my phone and noticed if I don’t shutdown the app on one device first that I won’t pickup from where I left off on the other device. Also, unless I missed it, a search feature in books would be a nice feature to have.

Fantastic voice quality, but mediocre app. I’ve been using elevenlabs voices for several months and definitely find the quality and generation speed to be among the best if not the best out there. It pains me to say that this app does not deliver the same experience. There are frequent bugs and issues with being able to generate speech from links or pasted text and no notification or feedback explaining what the problem is or that the service itself might be under too heavy a load. Most frequently this manifests as a session that starts off going well but then stalls out somewhere in the middle of your text refusing to advance beyond a certain point even when changing voices. It is a shame to pair voices of this quality with an app that seems not quite ready for prime time.

First reviewer. Great app!

Incredible. Just amazing how life like it is. I can now listen to things that was previously impossible. Super! Thank you for this technology 🙏

Improvement. I really like al the features but I wish I new how to download my reads to my phone!

“Error playing content please try again later”. Stops randomly at some point mid-piece. All. The. Time. Consistently breaks now. Pity.

Error playing audio. The speech quality is very good. But the reading keeps stopping and saying "Error playing audio".

Unbelievably broken.. It’s hard to count how many ways this app is broken. How did it ever get accepted into the App Store in this state? File uploads constantly truncated. Text parsing is constantly garbled. Voice selection menu is haphazard and filters cannot be visibly selected. No obvious indication of which voice is reading the current text. No obvious place to change it to a different voice. And on and on. Literally every function in the app seems buggy. Frustratingly the reading itself sounds great.

Good start , not multiple language support. Once this supports other languages , it’ll be perfect. Would also be great to use own voice

Brilliant TTS app. It's like having your own professional news reader to read any text you desire!

Great concept. Buffering and loading takes forever and does not work at all sometimes.

Hate it But Love It. Love this app BUT seriously the wheel spinning mid reading and STILL no update to fix it doesn’t make sense.

Wishful thinking!. Every thing is great about this app. But it’s too good to be true. I’m pretty sure sooner or later there will be a subscription model introduced

No funciona. Simplemente no lee nada!

Great but buggy. I would give it a full five stars, but unfortunately it suffers from a lot of bugs, and I do mean a lot! And linking web pages maybe works like 40% of the time, and that’s probably a stretch. That being said the app is very good, the voices are top notch (again some of varying quality). If you can get past the plethora of bugs and glitches it’s great

Voices are great. The concept is not new but they kind of got the point. Worst part is the actual reading. The voice get stuck all the time. If you’re lucky you’ll get 10 words then get stuck again

Doesn’t work properly. Doesnt work, always error starting a player

Amazing. How can this be free. I have been waiting for this for years. Exceeds my wildest expectations!!

Kudos - Looking forward to new updates. Overall a sleek and simple app. I enjoy like native options for login! I generated persona voices for my scripts characters in seconds. The ability to generate it with instant pre-made characters or customize their tones helped me sync the audio perfectly with my video's timing. This feature was especially useful for my software promotional production script. Easy and QUICK to use for quick scripts or ideas to come to life.

Keeps spinning. Does not start reading and keeps spinning. It happens often and is annoying. Sometimes happen in the middle of reading. Looks like their servers are overloaded.

Don’t work. I can’t even use it it’s zoomed in and I can’t zoom it out

Great so far. Love the app so far, I primarily use it for generating audiobooks for books that don’t have them. Would love more voices featured, I was sad that “Nicole” from the website version wasn’t on the app, she’s my favourite narrative voice.

Rly good app. Motion man motion man

Amazing……. When it works. This is a great reader app and I love the choice in voices. Unfortunately it takes forever to load and there are times when it stops working completely. I know it need to be connected to work, but the buffering makes it impossible to use. Tried on multiple networks all with good connectivity. I suspect it is demand problems on their own servers. Maybe they can do an offline mode?

can’t even read simple words properly. Mispronounces simple words like “pricing” and “sustained”. useless reads 23L not as 23 litres but “23 L”. worst app of this type

Good start. Needs to support more file formats, like markdown. I think any text file should be able to be loaded into the reader. Otherwise, seems to work as advertised.

Loved this app. Until the 1.0.6 update. Now I can’t sign in, upload files, everything results in ‘error’

Broken. Adding files always returns an error

🤬🤬🤬. Il y a tout le temps des problèmes sur les serveurs

BotBiz. I just downloaded it to iPhone 13 and it gets stuck at the 4 voice selections. I will rate a 5 as I know you are a good company. It could become a 1 soon though……

Terrific app, highly useful.. This application has been highly useful to me, it can read various documents, pages, and PDFs. I would not value the other reviews for this application, it was rather buggy in the beginning but they have significantly improved it. A big thanks to 11 labs. Please continue to do what you do and keep this app free for all. If there's anywhere for us to donate please let us know.

Love this but one thing. I absolutely love this it’s free and great for studying if you are a little like me but I can’t really find the books that I want so I scan and when I try my best to take the photos and include every word but when I listen to it it sometimes miss spells so I try to find a way to correct it so if it’s a little possible please let a feature where we can correct it if not possible still thank you very much for this app

it’s perfect for readers. there are many free facilities, like free voices, free books, and you can even scan a page and read that this app is perfect for me because I love to read, but I cannot buy so many books and it gives box of your recommendation you have to fill out fetch type of books you like, and after that it gives you recommendations of them and it can read it to you so good and even you can choose the accent and the language thank you ElevenReader ☺️

Love this incredible app. I’ve been using this app for six months almost 7 and at first I did the 10 hour per month but then I upgraded to the paid one where it’s unlimited and I am using it as a editing tool for my own book series which altogether is over 1500 pages. For those who are writing books or just listen to them I totally recommend if they had a choice of more stars I would.

Seldom review apps. I’ve seen people complaining about the transition from free to paid but I can understand. It takes a ton of energy (and a data center of costly servers). Hands down one of the best text to speech apps, I’m excited to try to GenFM feature. And if you don’t want to pay you are more than welcome to build your own open source text to speech workflow! The internet exists. the open source tech and knowledge how is out there freely available.

Love it, but. Love it, but for the price I wish I had more customization. Even voice dream, which is cheaper, has some of these customization options included. 1. I wish the navigation through chapters were easier to get to. This should be on the actual player interface. Not where u have to go through settings to get to it. 2. More background sound options. 3. I wish I can import audiobooks I personally own & that I have the files to. Voice dream does that. 4. Pronounce edit/ custom options. Since ElevenReader is charging over $100 a yr I'd like to get these options to make it more worth it to me!

Almost in tears. I am almost in tears. I’m 61 and chronically dyslexic, given up on reading in 4th grade and perpetually labeled as dumb. I have spent my life developing workarounds including much loved audio books, and eventually getting two college degrees. I have tried almost every single text to speech, repeatedly. But this 11Labs ability to read anything and not sound like a 1960s computer, and speak to me like a podcast (while driving), and especially read journal publications correctly is… I don’t know what to say.

New subscription plans are unreasonable. I have been eagerly recommending this app to friends, but now I regret this. The creators should know how unhappy people are when existing features are locked behind a subscription paywall — and an expensive one at that — in what feels like a bait and switch. There are plenty of extra things I would be willing to pay for — downloading offline being one of them. The specialized premium voices. Many things like that. But locking the number of hours of basic listening, which has been free so far, behind a big paywall, with such a meager free offering? Come on… it’s also unappreciated that the (forced) update for this was labeled ‘performance updates’. Just feels sneaky. Please be good to your users or they will find alternatives.

Disappointing. The app is good and helps me with reading, however it would make more sense if it took hours from only the books you read at app not the file PDF imported ones, it would’ve been so much better this way, because of the fact that you have limited hours it makes me not want to use this app anymore and just find another free app that’ll do the same thing but without limits, putting hour limits in the book was the most ridiculous and bad decision , I hope that sooner the developers will understand that and change up to make Elevenreader a better app .

Adding a few features. This is by far the best app for listening books, novels and other types of written documents I have ever used. There’s no doubt about that. However, Im sorry if it’s selfish but it would be very good to add another feature like watching ads to gain listening minutes for the people who do not pay. You guys are generous for adding the feature for inviting a friend to listen for 5 whole hours! That alone shows how much you care. Thank you.

Can’t stop using this.. I am currently writing a book and words won’t do justice to how incredible this ai reader is. Every app I’ve used with an ai reader, always had some weird robot tone. No matter what I used, there was always something still slightly off. But this ai reader… it sounds like an ACTUAL human being. My favorite voice to use is Jessica but there are thousands of voices to choose from! I can’t get enough of this app.

AMAZING FREE TOOL. I’ve been using eleven reader for a while now ever since my second year of college and it’s been really nice. I struggle with reading long material but I love audio books and this has helped me get through a lot of class text. It’s worth a download bc 1, it’s free like for real free, no subscription, card or literally anything Becides a google account I think And 2 compared to speechify, this is infinitely better speech wise and website / book reading wise Only reason it’s not getting a 5 is because I think there is a limit on how many words you can read with this for the week but I’ve only hit that limit one time, and you have to download the text you want this to read to eleven reader, so you can’t use it on websites, which kind of stinks bc this is so much better than any thing else. Hope that eleven labs keep creating these free ai tools like this, this stuff is really useful.

Used to be great. Every update it seems to get worse. What worked great before now has buffering issues. And every other update they do the sped up voices go back and forth between sounding fine to sounding like a synthetic voice underwater. So I’m forced to listen at just 1.0 speed to avoid that in the app. Furthermore the highlighting of text gets unsynced easily. What are you all doing with these updates? You had before something wonderful that worked fantastic and with every update it just breaks things that worked fine before and make it worse. To the extent it’s becoming unusable

Price options. I used this app specifically because it was free and sounded decent. I understand there is a cost for keeping an app like this running, however paying for a limited number of hours is honestly going to drive most people who used this app away. I was listening to stuff at work so that is up to 8+ hours a day. I will keep using it if there is an “unlimited hours” option for a reasonable price, but for now I’m going to just find another tts app rip.

Awesome app!. Thank you guys for being sincere in your development of this app and not being a cash grab like many others. I suggest adding the option to add our own pictures or thumbnails to our collections and each saved recordings, that would be a nice touch. Also small complaint - when listening to the voice reading, every so often there’s a little glitch of the voice sound. Thanks!!

Value. I understand why people are upset about transitioning from a free to a paid model. But I also can appreciate the value of an investment in a text-to-speech app that is clearly better than its rivals. As someone with difficulty in reading for longer periods, this app offers elite narration that directs me toward content and away from irritating vocal imperfections that characterize other such apps. It has already resulted in an increase in time spent listening to articles stacked up in my queue.

From one of my favorites to an app I’ll never use again.. Seriously, this was one of the most amazing free apps on the entire app store, the reason why I had so much faith in it was because it was free. Letting you have so much freedom to work, listen, and do anything in between to a paid subscription with such a heavy restriction what’s even the point of it anymore. You guys could’ve been like WinRar only requiring some donations, or something like that. I would’ve given more per month just to support than the ultra model, but seriously nobody likes to get rear ended by an originally free product to a worse paid one. While I don’t hope you guys fail, I do hope you guys reevaluate your strategy and fire anyone who was in this process of switching it. There’s a reason why there’s such an influx of 1-2 star reviews

If you recommend this to others. Your free tier access might be banned. I made the great mistake of recommending this app within my household and now NONE of us have free tier access because it’s “suspicious.” Really? There are just three people here. It’s not like 30 people were using this app from the same IP address. EVEN AFTER CONTACTING SUPPORT (at which point presumably they could’ve checked how many ppl are in the household) they insisted that no one is getting a free account. Of course now none of us will ever get a paid account ever again. (Yes, prior to being accused of abusing the system, we had used the paid plan for multiple months. That won’t happen again.)

Great app. I’ve used this app for nearly a year now, and it’s great. For people that complain about the hour limit just because it used to be free—the free plan is MORE than generous considering what they were going to do (which was only an hour available a month with insane plan prices). For how good the AI voices are, the plan prices aren’t horrible and the free plan still is enough in my opinion. So, if you’re thinking about trying this app out, it’s worth it. Free plan or any of the ones you have to pay for.

So, I decided to give this whole subscription thing a whirl.. I decided to go with the “biggest package” which is their “Ultra Annual Subscription” for $219. This is absolutely-positively not worth it. I was promised the unlocking of over thousands of voices, I don’t get that option. They have the same speed for all subscriptions regardless of what plan you chose. You would assume the “premium subscriptions” would allow you to use whatever speed you want and unlock plenty more than what the lesser options give. With this amount of money you might as well hop on audible or any other listening apps that allows the option to use the speed without paying for more hours when you’ve already paid $219 + the ‘actual’ premium unlocking of other features. I understand this is a new thing for them but it’s definitely something that those behind the ideas and at this point - greed, should work out the kinks to this before 1.) releasing this to the public 2.) playing with peoples money Coming from someone who also works in marketing and bringing ideas to a team, this needs a ton of work. Do not recommend.

Excellent App with One Audio Drawback. I’m really enjoying this app so far, but there’s one issue holding it back. I usually listen at faster playback speeds, and when I increase the speed, the voice quality changes significantly and starts to sound robotic. It would be a huge improvement if the app could maintain a more natural-sounding voice at higher speeds. Fixing this would make an already great app even better for users who prefer faster listening.

Give us an option to pay for unlimited use.. Edit: Thank you for adding a more reasonable pay option for unlimited use. Credits are dumb. The amount of time you get per dollar is not worth it in the least. Please provide an option that allows for unlimited use at a more reasonable price point. There are many things I could spend my money on and price per hour of enjoyment isn’t there. I also find the bait and switch method to garner positive reviews and a base of users to be a less than savory practice.

Disappointed. I’m in college and I have these large textbooks to read out, and I have been using this app for a year no problem. Until it hit me with a reading hour limit. I’m so dependent on this app to help guide me and I was super excited once class started knowing I can use this app to help me. But since the limit, I have to wait every Friday to get only 2 hours of reading time? This is the only speech app that works wonders to me and it kind of feels like a stab in the back especially since classes starts around this time. I don’t know any other apps that works as well as this. But if you’re gonna give free reading hours, can you give more than just 2 hours?

Best TTS app until it became subscription. I’ve been using the app for a few months now and I’ve loved the wide array of voices and functionality all for free! I was actually considering giving up my Speechify subscription this year as I started using this app because I hit my word limit monthly. But right on schedule they roll out subscriptions. I clearly don’t mind paying for a great service but 10 hours a month for $6.99 is robbery. I average at least 2-3x that a week. The free version nets you 6 credits A WEEK which is ONE HOUR of imported content. They have got to be kidding with this! I broke a 30+ day streak yesterday because I was already out of credits.

Only 1 issue. Worth every penny. I use it all the time for entertainment and editing. The only issue is the use of nanny bots that threaten your account for suspicion due to falsely flagged content. It’s a shame a human doesn’t check first before something like this happens. I got through the appeal process but if I hadn’t I have no idea what getting a refund would have been like. I would suggest never purchasing an annual subscription until the way they handle suspensions is changed.

I don’t like to complaining about anything but right now I have to. Many Afghan immigrants speak Pashto and they’re supposed to make technology accessible to everyone, including the people who never speak English at least offer limited free trial nothing will be bad, I really appreciate the developer making the effort to create a best first technology ever but there are some issues first in the new user sign up for the first time there’s no free trial. Everything is just overpriced. The other issues. I’m not American English speaker. Of course I live in America And a lot of people are immigrant in the United States. They speak Pashto many African people they support a lot of language, but they didn’t support past language.

Wish there was page/chapter selection options. Sometimes the app glitches to where it completes stops reading and loses the place it was reading at. This then causes me to have to search key words to find the previous spot I was at which is inconvenient and frustrating especially for longer texts. If there was a chapter or page selection I think it would at least be easier to find the previous reading spot. This issue makes me want to look into other options for a reading app.

Amazing app. Great for reading audiobooks. I can’t believe I went for so long without using this, and how it’s actually free! I appreciate the ElevenLabs team and believe it’s the future for AI voice, for sure. I love how I can submit the epubs I have gathered over the years in Calibre and it works flawlessly with any file. One note- the Burt Reynolds’s voice, great for my fantasy-book and D&D book readings, will occasionally get stuck sounding at 2x speed as a shrieking female banshee. This may, just, be due to the fact there are actual shrieking banshees in the books🤣

No cloning?

Love the voices but clunky interface. The voices are top notch! But after a two weeks and more than 30 hours of listening I have decided that I spend too much time navigating the app and searching for the spot I left off that it’s not worth the ultra edition. While Speechify doesn’t have voices that are as high quality, the navigability of their app if far greater. How am I supposed to find my spot when the chapters of my 700 page textbook are not integrated into the eleven reader app? Apparently I’m somewhere between the chapters “Questions:” and “Awareness, & Knowledge”…

Last few days getting crazy glitches. I like this app a lot and listen to my books through the day. I’ve noticed the voice as it reads getting lower and lower as if I turned the volume down, then booms back up with no transition. But what’s really driving me crazy is the ai voice getting stuck on 2/3 words and will repeat it over and over without going to the next sentence. Also if I have it playing in the background it will read but as soon as I get on my phone again it doesn’t save the place where it was last read. Hopefully an update can fix this.

Really good app for reading different web and light novels of all sorts. This app has allowed me to start catching up to my favorite light novel thanks to the speed for the audio book settings and being able to read it while the audiobook is playing makes it really immersive, the only thing that I wish would change would be having almost no way to get hours without paying but they gotta make their bag one way or another so it’s alright.

A great idea. Hi. I found this app through ChatGPT and it seems like it would be really convenient. I’m trying to create an audio file for myself of text that I can listen to when I need it, however, I need to put in my date of birth, which I feel strange about, even though it’s for safety purposes, and once I did that, I selected a voice, but when I went to hit continue, the button was disabled. Those are my only problems, and if that wasn’t an obstacle, I would raise this up to five stars.

Thank you for listening!. Updating this review due to changes made to the subscription options! Thank you so much for listening and for giving us the option for a reasonably priced unlimited option. Eleven Reader is definitely my app of choice for listening to uploaded documents and I’m so happy I can support the app while still being able to use it like I was before. Thank you!!!

Weird vocal things. I like the reader, but have a couple things to post out. 1. When I upload word documents, the app changes their name to just “document” with a number after the word. This is confusing when I have several word documents because you can’t tell which is which. Why can’t it keep the file name? 2. The reader voice names Will has weird vocal noises like “um” “ah” and some other really weird sounds. I know they are supposed to emulate real sounds that people make when they speak, but they are poorly done and very distracting. 3. For some unknown reason, the reader pronounces punctuations like a period with the word “dot”. It sounds weird “dot” to have punctuation pronounced in between sentences. Other than that, it works well. I use it to proof read chapters of the books I write. It does a decent job minus the things I described. The inflections don’t always match the tone of the sentence, but I suppose it will need to evolve into better reading tome. I can live with this minor issue.

Reads PDF books while I’m in the car. I often receive PDF versions of books and articles that are relevant to my estate planning practice. ElevenReader easily uploads these PDFs into the app and then reads them to me at any speed. I choose while I am on my daily commute. I love this because it helps me learn material, which does not have an audiobook version and saves me my limited reading time at At Home. I highly recommend!

please read!!!. alright i read a lot but sometimes the books i read are chunky and i don't always want to bring them out and about, dinners, friends houses, etc. as a teenager, airpods are super normal to have in so i immediately tried looking for an app that would scan books and read it aloud to me! now i went on a full dive and downloaded apps that were popular, they were horrible, either limiting your listening with okay voices or unlimited listening with really bad voices and horrible subscription fees over $100? did some more research and found this app, let me tell you this is the holy grail. best voices, idek if there is a premium but im happy with the free and i love this app. i think its amazing, voices are great, no limit on listening i dont think. everything is great.

Indie Author’s Friend. As an independent author, I find this to be an incredibly valuable tool. It is often difficult to spot tone and tenor changes while reading the material you’ve already written, but this application reads it in such a way that you are able to pick that up. You’re also not bored listening You to sleep, which is a serious bonus when you have nine hours of content! You will love your work a lot more after having it read to you by this app.

Not good for reading/listening research papers. 1) Every time I try to listen a research paper with embedded citations using numbers, the app reads like “cox maze procedure9 10” this is very annoying to listen to. Please find a way to omit these numbers. Also, there should be a way to skip the words in between () if the reader is not interested in reading them 2) With plus subscription- I can only use 30 hours per month which is ridiculously bad. It should be at least 5 hours per day with plus subscription or decrease the cost of ultra to about 150 dollars

Convenient for the busy academician. I love how easy it is to send an article to ElevenReader to listen to. It definitely allows me to go through many more texts in detail than I would have by reading because I can listen while driving and doing other things. One thing I hope in the future is for this app to be able to remove captions and headers as those tend to be interspersed in the middle of the text and breaks the timeline of the reading.

Always listen.. This app is fantastic! I love the voices that are available and how natural they can sound! It’s easier for me to listen to sites or books or anything then read them and this app helps a lot! One small tweak: not sure if it’s a bug, but some times when I’m listening to a document, the voice will go really quiet and when I turn my headphones up, the next moment it’s like it’s shouting. But still five stars as the app itself is phenomenal!

Indispensable. Love this software. Great for listening but more importantly for my purposes helps me proofread my own writing of which I do a lot. Rarely, there is a hiccup in the cadence of the reading voice and even more uncommonly there is brief voice distortion (easily fixed by resetting). Again these are rare. This is by and large an excellent tool and one that has become indispensable for my daily work and reading pleasure. Very highly recommend. Five stars for sure.

Very human-like. Listened to one huge historical book while running and was impressed how close that reading to a human narrator. Good work, thank you. It was annoying still to hear inconsistent errors in last names stressing, and stumbling on abbreviations. Sometimes pronounced correctly, the other times wrongly. Probabilistic reading, I would say. I suppose that is based on LLMs. Can you give users some freedom to prompt pronunciation corrections for a book? If I could instruct the reader how to pronounce certain words properly that would improve the listening experience a lot.
