Precip - Rain Totals & Weather App Reviews

Tracking precipitation. Knowing how much rain our location has received in the past 24 hours , week and month is very important to me. This has been the best of many apps I’ve tried to track precipitation.

Sad update. It was a great app until developers got greedy. You can check only so many times a day before you have to pay...yet the map opens up at various locations you're not even checking, and when you move to check YOUR location, it eats up the 12 you're allowed to check. So you really only get to check once daily before they force you to pay. It's priced way too high. It needs to be a one and done, not monthly or yearly. If they insist on monthly/yearly, they need to reduce the price to $1 month or less. Nobody wants to pay $50 when they can just get a $5 rain Guage.

Great and accurate app. This has been a terrific app for keeping track of the rainfall at my home. I can monitor the amount of rain and determine whether or not I need to activate my sprinkler system even when on the road. Much appreciated and I would not mind paying a fee if I needed more than one location but only need this for my home. Many thanks !

Usually quite accurate for rain. I like to cross check Precip’s totals with my backyard rain gauge and it is surprisingly accurate. Also like to compare their totals for different areas of our small (pop. 20K) town. The snowfall totals aren’t always as accurate but measuring snowfall total is a hit and miss endeavor depending on winds, temperatures, and moisture content throughout the snow event. Since we travel long distance frequently, it is handy to know snowfall levels that we’re headed into or what we have to shovel when we return. :-)

Easy to use. Great app for a mountain biker. You don’t wanna ride when the trails are too wet and sometimes rain is in one location, but not in another. This app lets you set locations around where you live to determine how much rain fell over The last 24 hours

Way over estimates rain amount. Have had the free version of this app for about a week now. Claims we have gotten over an inch in the last 48 hours. I have a rain gauge and we’ve gotten less than half an inch. The app uses radar and some sort of AI calculation to figure out precipitation at a specific location. Well their AI needs to go back to school because it’s off by a factor of two. Useless. The weather rock is just about as helpful (look it up 😮‍💨😄).

Homeowner. I have been using the free version. I have my 5 locations stored, all readings appear to be correct. I have a rain gauge interfaced with Ambient Weather. I have compared my rainfall readings with Precip. They are very close. I have recommended Precip to other folks in lieu of installing a rain gauge

This is exactly what mainstream apps are missing. I want to know, when I go to bed, if I have to get up early to clean the driveway. Weather apps tell me everything I don’t care about but not how much snow. I have been wanting for this app for years. It took an AI app to find it. I would give it 10 stars if I could

Reliable App for Rainfall. The app works great. It is easy to use and very intuitive. It provides accurate rainfall totals just by moving an arrow across a map. The basic version allows the user to save two locations which is handy as it provides more detailed info about rain over the last couple of days and the forecast for the next month. Great app!

Rainfall. For the past several days, rainfall amounts were more accurate than my current weather App. It was very refreshing as it helps to control my irrigation. But last night we had a lot more rain around in the late evening than what was reported. Your report stated .05” when it was much closer to .5 - .7”. Our lawns and beds were soaked this morning.

This is a very useful app for small areas. This is a very useful app. I lived in an area that weather stations never talk about that so it's so nice able pin point my location to tell what is going on and see how much rain we received

Useful For Work. I’m an Engineering Project Manager for a state’s Dept. of Transportation engineering/construction crew. I use this quite a bit for my projects’ locations. I’d definitely give it five stars if it didn’t cost so much to upgrade. It’d be nice to have maybe a 5, 10, 15, etc saved location plans. I do pay for a plan because I think it’s worth supporting.

Great app - rain gauge. I love this app as I can check on my properties in two different towns to see if precipitation is falling or if I need to go over and manually water some of my plants or manually turn on the sprinkler system keep up the good work!

Great weather information and very accurate. I find Precip to be very easy to use and very accurate. I like being able to have multiple locations. I recommend this for anyone who enjoys looking at weather.

Very helpful app. I downloaded recently and found it very helpful for getting data to determine if I need to run my sprinkler and plan my golf outings. I have a rain gauge but after confirming the Precip app is very accurate I seldom bother to check the rain gauge.

Great App!!. I always wonder about the accuracy of apps like this one. I work outside for a living and rely heavily upon accurate weather information as part of my daily routine. I have found this app to be within less than 1/4” of on site gauges. This app is every bit as good as advertised!!

Very Good Information. Precip fills the need for information on specific locations. It shows data for both past and forecasted periods. I do think the organization and presentation of the data could be improved to make it easier to digest all the great data the App provides. The ability for a User defined report would be very beneficial. I have NOT verified the data provided yet.

First Class . . . But. Five stars for the application. Ever since Adobe showed the way with the insidious and diabolical subscription model it has spread like a kissing disease. I would gladly BUY a paid version of this outstanding weather application. Alas, my allergy to recurring high subscription rates prevents me from using more than the free version.

Registration. Conceptually the app seems to be great, unfortunately, I’ve not been able to fully utilize the app as every time I attempt to register it block the registration for some reason. Once I’m allowed to fully register and granted full access to the app I’m looking forward to seeing what it has to offer.

Great! But…. It’s great - but the really cool features are locked behind a subscription. However, it is still quite useful and I know they need to make some money too, so I may even buy that subscription!

Stopped showing totals. After a day or so it didn’t show any precipitation totals anymore. I don’t know what happened. If it wanted me to give an email address to sign in, it should notify me. Otherwise I’m just going to download another app like raindrop or something.

Precip app. Love that you can see the amount of rain that has fallen over your home. Also enjoy being able to see daily totals on their calendar! Very helpful in regards to watering your plants!!

Accurate location data in hours. And days!. Saw this app on a neighborhood site. Curious so I got it before snowmagedon. Put in family as well as home location. WOW! Looked out the window and tapped the app - answers to all of my questions! Highly recommend!

Very close to rain gauge totals. I am a farmer and have 30 fields scattered over a wide geography. This app has been close to the rain gauges I have at certain fields so I would be confident using it instead of rain gauges in the future. Love this app.

Extremely Helpful. The precipitation amounts are no doubt not completely accurate but they were close enough that watching the amount of rain in various locations that flow into our river helped us know we needed to take action to prepare for flooding, more that any other resource we have found. We were able to get everything out of the lower level of our house in time to avoid losing anything and to make cleanup easier. I highly recommend this!

Fantastic App. The detail, variety, and presentation of hyperlocal data in this app is incredible. In addition to rainfall totals, predictions, and historical data available; you get current and recent weather, and soil conditions. An invaluable resource for monitoring your garden or work sites.

Great info on rain totals. I have been looking for an app or website that would show rain totals in my area. I love that I can see the rain totals for each day of the current month. To see more than the current month, you have to pay. To see more than two locations you also have to pay.

Hugely inaccurate. This app is so inaccurate that I don’t even understand the point of it. It showed 1.45” of rain over the last 48 hrs at my location, but in reality I have had .10” over the last week. There hasn’t been that much rain within 100 miles of my area. It’s understandable that mankind has difficulty predicting future rainfall amounts with a high degree of accuracy, but to not be able to say what we actually had is absurd. There are many accurate sources to get past rainfall amounts without using this completely inaccurate source.

Great App. Great Customer service. My app kept crashing when I initially downloaded this app (due to my IPad). Customer service helped me get it going again. I was also skeptical with the accuracy so I compared it to my rain gauge for several weeks. It was always about the same. Now I just use this app to check rainfall totals.

Great weather app. Guys, usually I don’t want to pay for apps. Your design interface, layout options and accuracy (algorithms?) of your data sources is excellent. Especially being able to track past historical weather data at my location. I don’t mind paying your fees. Well done!!!

Map Disappeared. This app looked great, and for the first few weeks using it, worked as advertised. However, now the map is missing. I tried tapping on the map. The screen changed from black to gray, but no map. If I move the screen around, the amount of rainfall changes. But the underlying map is still missing. Do I need to remove the app and reinstall, or is there another issue?

I really like this app. I accidentally added locations unaware that I was doing it wrong. I contacted the developer who immediately replied with the correct way of adding locations. After following those directions everything it’s working smoothly.

Love this App. My iPhone weather app has never been reliable-it can be pouring down rain for hours and the next day the app will say we received- .01. It rarely matches with my rain monitor so I downloaded PRECIP and wow I have been so happy. The accuracy is amazing. The developer is also very helpful when I had a question. This is a must have if you need more accurate data to farm, garden or inform your family or friends (everyone loves to talk about the weather, right!). I have only used the free portion but after my surgery and I can go back to work, I intend to get the full version.

Outstanding Unique Design 5 Star App!. Being an ole Man who enjoys the Walks I am able to do with my cane 🦯 is important to me. So knowing what the weather is like and knowing that the app is accurate! This app is really Designed and it shows where the Developers have put a great deal of time hard work sweat and yes love into the coding of this software. A software that is designed for you myself and our family. Yes the app gives us the amounts of Rain so for me keeps me out of the Rain Puddles! So if you taken the time in your busy schedule to read this I hope you will download this Outstanding Unique Design App, and give it a try. What do you have to loose? Accurate. I’m amazed at how truly accurate Precip-Rain Gauge app is. For anyone planting a small garden up towards farmers painting 1000 acres you can’t get more accurate rainfall information on a certain location than using this app and it’s accurate information.

Very accurate results. We are very pleased with this tool to help us plan ahead and record rain fall amounts on our property. The accuracy to our rain gauge is far better than other apps we use. Thank you

I really only use the app in the winter to check the snow fall so I will probably not be updating, but thanks for all your good work 😁 Previous —-It says free to start. Does that mean after the update It will no longer be free and you’ll start charging? How long will the free trial be?

Good app!. I’m still new to using this app so I still question the accuracy of it, however it seems so far to be accurate according to traditional rain gauges and comparison; it is fun to look up all the locations that are important for rainfall amounts!

Great App. This app Rocks , still playing around with it , but enjoying what I see so far. Like the saved locations . My buddy in a different state always has to give me some exaggerated weather report whenever we talk. Now I got him 🤣. Definitely helpful for traveling with the forecast . Best of it’s kind. I am a self proclaimed weather nerd and this app hits the spot. I love how you can pinpoint an exact location and then are able to get precise information. We have a family cabin on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Tahoma. Not quite lake level but not too much higher. The location its own little micro climate. When snow is forecasted it’s impossible to know with any accuracy how much has fallen (if any) or will fall which makes heading to the cabin in the winter a bit unpredictable. cabin has received. Since none of us are lucky enough to live in Tahoe knowing just how much snow has fallen gives us an idea of how much shoveling we’ll need to do to access the cabin. Yes, this probably seems like a strange use of the app, but seriously it’s a winter game changer for all of us!

Map needs more detail. The foundation is there, but I primarily use apps like this for planning outdoor trips and the base map’s level of detail just isn’t comparable to competitors like Meteoblue. Because of this, I have to search locations on Google and then copy-paste GIS coordinates over to the app…super annoying! If you can improve the searchable base map to include a more comprehensive list of peaks and trailheads you could open up a whole new user base. Until then I’m sticking with the better alternative.

Very accurate and Great user interface. A great app!! I am very impressed with the accuracy of the rain estimates specific to my location. !! Matches my rain gauge very closely!! I have another home that doesn’t have a rain gauge and has irrigation system, and now I don’t need to purchase a rain gauge ! Graphics on historical data are great too! Love the cumulative graphs and ability to select year . I got the Pro 15 location premium version which also lets you export weather data !

Owner of Griffin Planting Company. I have this app . And it doesn’t work have the time . I have already told you this one time and you fixed something and it started back . Now it says it needs debugging and you are working on it . Please either fix this issue or let me know and I will cancel my subscription. Lester

Construction Foreman’s best friend. Whether I’m trying to decide whether or not the subgrade will be too saturated to pour concrete, or just trying to figure out whether or not a parking lot in a certain area needs to be plowed during the winter, this service has been a Godsend!

It was cool for 2 days. Someone posted on Threads about this app and it’s hard to find snowfall totals so I was in. I found it pretty clunky to use but it was nice to see a MTD snow total. I just came back a week or so later and everything I looked at is now behind a paywall so apparently that was a trial? I’ve paid for a couple of my other weather apps so I’m not against paying for premium content but I need to know it’s a free trial so I can spend more time playing around to see if it’s worth it and I need the app to be less awkward. Like show me the location(s) I’ve added instead of a map asking if I want to add locations, looking like everything is brand new. I added my home city a second time before seeing it was there for the first time. Surprise?!?

Free if you never touch the screen. As soon as you touch the screen a couple of times, you get a message wanting money. Free daily limit reached as soon as you move the screen the least little bit…. I understand trying to upsell to the paid version, but the developer would be better off only having a trial that works for a day or two rather than immediately hitting a self imposed limit.

Pinpoint Exact Location. Great app! Weather reports never mention how much actual precipitation occurred … probably because it can vary so much by location. With this app, I can pin my location and see how much rain we got in the last 12, 24, 48 hours. Also the last 7 days. More durations and other features can be unlocked with the paid app.

Good, but upgrade pricey. I’m a home gardener who just wanted to know how much rain we got to see if I needed to water my plants. There’s more information like soil moisture and week totals that would be interesting, but the upgrade for that is $20. Too much for casual use. Perhaps this app is more geared toward farmers. The free version is helpful enough!

So helpful during Helene. I found this app during last week’s double hit of a rain dumping storm system immediately followed by Helene. While I wanted to know what our home was experiencing, I was more concerned with where my horse is boarded. This app supplied really important information so now I have my two locations saved and will keep using the app! Thank you for such a great design and ease of use!

Great past precipitation app!. This is a highly useful tool when you are evaluating a location to before travel or family members area. The only problems the number of save locations is very limited before needing to pay for the service. Price dependent, it may be worth it but most are just too high to consider.

Highly inaccurate. I had 2 inches of rain in the gauge on the fence and the app said it rained .01.

Jaw Dropping Inaccuracy. This is about as bad as it gets. It said my location got 4.7” of snow this month and in reality we got just under 24” of snow because I measure the snow myself. Also off of Lake Ontario it states they got over 1300 inches of snow which is impossible in New York State and perhaps almost anywhere in the world. Also what kind of ranges are these?? 650-1951 inches of snow, what in the world is this do not download!!! I have picture proof but can’t figure out how to put one in the review😭
