Why no clues?. I love hangman but this isn’ fun for without a vague clue.

GR_ _T F_N. This is a great way to while away time. The set-up makes it easy to pick letters and see which ones are left. The program does use many obscure and archaic words, plus adds suffixes like -able and -ing to more common words, sometimes creating uncommon combinations. You have the ability to look up the word definitions, which is a big plus if you're a logophile. Levels don't seem to mean harder words, just how long you've survived. Running out of "lives" means being dropped back to Level 1 with zero points, but unless you're into it competitively you don't even have to notice. Just enjoy the play!

Hangman. I love the game, but while I hate words that are high schoolish, these words are way out there….and I’m better than the average person at English!

I wish levels 1-5 only used easy, difficult & more difficult words; rather than starting right off with very very difficult words (medical/science/old world words that player may have never seen or heard of). Very disheartening to lose on first level because of an extremely difficult, little known word. Other than that, truly love this game!!!!!👍

Questionable. I really wanted to like this game. I was enjoying it with my 12 year. Unfortunately the words we keep getting are ridiculous. You cant guess them because they are most commonly used. We have successful won and by guessing yet we have had to look up up 85% of the words. If hard new words are what your looking for. This is the game for you. If your looking to play, have fun, and teach a pre-teen. This game is ridiculous.

B.S.. Some words are too frickin' rare to be reasonable hangman hidden choices. In a private game among friends, you'd be called a jerk for choosing them and your opponent would likely quit.

Love this game!. This is not your kids game of Hangman. It had to have been created for adults and has been one of my favorite games ever since I found it. Great game from Boy Howdy!

Challenging to a fault. As a person who normally excels at English, I find that the vocabulary expected of the user in this game to be daunting. There are no options such as easy/medium/difficult. Some of the words are obscure and pedantic. These are difficult or impossible to solve. Neophytes and second language learners of English are sure to be flummoxed by this game.

Oh man. I totally agree that it seems these words are......ridiculous!! I have never heard of many of them and I know words. It’s just no fun. I’m surprised at boy howdy. I hope they look into this. Yuck.

I'm addicted--fun + great as a vocabulary-expanding game.. I love the huge vocabulary and the opportunity to see the definition once solved. At first it drove me crazy that there wasn't an explicit context; one moment I could get an "easy" common word, and then next it's a hardcore geology word, or a word from middle english about metallurgy or something ... but as I played, that started to be what I liked most about your app. So thank you for this cool clever app that is sucking up all my iPhone-play time hehe :)

Poor word choices. Poor word choices. Many unfamiliar words. Lots of past tense (-ed) or gerunds (-ing). Rhumbaed...Really??

Easy to play, fun way to learn.. I always enjoy opportunities to learn new words and this game provides those opportunities in a fun way. I especially appreciate the built-in dictionary, since it's inclusion means I don't have to go to my printed dictionary to look up those new words. Playing this version of the classic game is a great way to make use of those occasional moments when one is otherwise "indisposed."

Hangman Review. I like the game but some of the supposedly hidden words don’t make sense, they invent words by adding endings compounds like “able” “ment” to common words making it an unrecognizable word as the definition is the basic word

Ridiculous words. Come on ...using words based on HINDI not even in the Dictionary or Olde English not in use for hundreds of yes!!. Also they make up words that have a base in english as a verb or adjective but do not exist in another form ie adverb, etc like "scrupling" from scruples :(

Great game!. This is game is addicting! It is hard to put it down, and what a great way to learn new vocabulary. Some of the words and word endings are at times obscure, but I feel it is a good learning experience. It may be good for helping with crosswords also. I feel it is fun. I don't think the game keeps a record of my high level/score, at least I have not found it yet. That would be nice.

WHAT's THAT WORD...HUH????. You know, I LIKE a word game that's challenging but give me a break. I feel I have an excellent vocabulary but I've come across words I've never even heard of prior to playing this game. Fortunately, you have a button in the game that will automatically give you the meaning of the word, but how can you honestly put words in the game that when you ask for a definition, it says 'not found in dictionary, look up in Wikipedia'. Well, I had the word 'mopery' and I wanted the definition, so I went to Wikipedia and it tells me 'not found, look up in another language' ...WHAT??? I hit the language button and it tells me it's an Estonian word and gives me a one word definition (in Estonian!...for crying out loud). I can see why people delete this game...so WAKE UP. We don't mind difficult words but at least give us a running chance...I doubt that I would have down loaded this game if i knew that you used words not found in the english dictionary...it's sorta like cheating on your part... My Favorite Hangman. You can't helps but learn new words. Improve vocabulary & increase your brain power. This isn't your run of the mill, easy to cheat, elementary level hangman game. It does give you more guesses than most. With a little thought, common sense & a little luck, you'll soon see it's not as hard as it first seems. No different than most any game. It's great!

A Challenge but Fabulous!. This HANGMAN is very challenging but without taking the enjoyment out of it. I have to admit, the words are not all familiar to me, making it more an educated guess on some plays. I’m sure if you try it, you’ll enjoy this great game.

Great game. This is the best hangman game I have found. The best thing about it is it gives you more chances to get the letters correct.

Word choice. I can tell when there is a change in either who creates the words list or that, at the very least, there is a change. Months ago this was a great way to wake up my mind in the morning. Then word usage changed to such specific choices of a particular bush found only in southern Australia or the particle found in the skin....etc. Currently the app creator claims to have “cleaned up” the word choices. Well, yes....word choice has changed. “Outridden” is technically a word but it seems they want to trick users instead of providing solid word choice. People with good vocabularies are put off when they get zero scores by not knowing words that are not used in normal, verbal discourse as relates to English speaking users.

Hangman is great!. This version of the time honored game is great! I’ve been “addicted” for quite some time, and never seem to tire of it. The memory bank used always has enough new words that it keeps providing a good challenge.

It's about perfect.. Hangman is not just about having an extensive vocabulary. It's as much about knowing how words are constructed in our language. So yes, please do offer easier levels for those who want it. I'll stick with this version. It's a great challenge, and I'm learning new versions of words. Yes, some are obscure and I won't use them, but they are still great word puzzles to solve. I enjoy working hard to stay on the leader board, and I'm amazed at some of the scores some people have achieved (sans dictionnaires, I hope). Keep those words a-comin'!!

Great game but ridiculous words. I love playing this game. It is user friendly, and very addictive. It is a nice, relaxing game I enjoy playing in the evening, or while waiting for appointments, etc. The only thing I dislike extremely about this game is it's frequent use of non-English words, and words that do not exist at all. Putting "ing", or "ed" on the end of a word does not necessarily make it a new word. And if you are going to go international with this game perhaps you should make different versions. I love that it is challenging. But I would prefer to complete the words because I figured them out, not because I guessed at some non-existent collection of letters. Overall, it is still a great game and I would recommend it to everyone. The only reason I only gave it four stars was because of the made up words.

Please use normal words... It’s easier to randomly chose words from a dictionary. Harder to chose reasonable words for your faithful audience. I have a doctorate degree and I can not figure out most of these words. PLEASE, MAKE A SECOND GAME FOR THE REST Of US.

Difficult. I have a degree in English and minor in journalism, yet I have never heard of many of the words in this game. There are too many medical, scientific, and technical terms that only experts in the respective fields would know. I like a challenge, but how about "ootheca?" Who-the-heck, among the general populace, knows that word? I rated it four star, but I am changing my mind and deleting the app. You need, not only to get rid of the genres I have mentioned, but also give some sort of ballpark clue regarding the word. It can be a vague clue, but you need to give a guideline. I'm going back to Word Solitaire.

Excellent Game, great support! NW Filly. April 19, 2016. Have had this game for several years, without any problems and I still love it. It is as much fun as the one most of us played as children but the words are much more challenging. This is definitely the adult version. I thought I had a good vocabulary but am continually learning new words with this game. When I do not know the word, I can click on the "definition" button and add it to my vocabulary. I recently had a problem with my iPad, which prevented my game from opening. At first, I did not realize that the problem was with my iPad and so I contacted "Boy Howdy". They responded quickly and even though it was not their problem, they took the time to help me solve the iPad situation and get my game to delete and re-install. This is an excellent game with great support!

With only one letter missing - if the player still has no idea what the word is - then the game has missed the mark. You do want a challenge - but not using ridiculous words that no one has even heard of let alone used. It's a pity because the game itself is well constructed and has a good level system Still, the game was free so I guess I got my money's worth . I think I migh pay for a version of hangman next time

Annoying. I have a large vocabulary. I've played this now a dozen times and the words are mostly ridiculous. Educated guesses only take you so far. Obscure words are over-used. And expanding your vocabulary is not really accomplished with words like peculated. Checking the definition will show you how obscure the word is.

A fun but infuriating game. What makes it infuriating is all the foreign words (a japanese display nook, a polish carriage, a bahamanian drum). I suppose you can't get 44,000 words from the english language? I try to look at it as a learning game although I will be hard pressed to use "goombay" in everyday conversation.

Not the hangman you payed in elementary school. I was pleasantly surprised. I downloaded this app for my g-kids but I found some of the words challenging, it made me use my noggin! Play a little hangman with your kids and maybe you'll use a few brain cells that have been sitting in the recliner of your mind and maybe build someone's vocabulary... Obscure & archaic. 2 words to describe the vocabulary usage. I like having 3 lives. I do well, considering many of the words are so obscure, I doubt hardly anyone knows of them. I like being able to guess 10 letters incorrectly before hanging occurs. All in all, good game play, I enjoy the mind challenge.

Wordsmith. This has potential, but many of the words are just too difficult. Some of these words would only be found in a textbook or some obscure place. What is the point? I like the feature where you can look up the definition with a quick tap

The Challenge. I live this game for the challenge. I installed it bc I was looking for something for my wife and I do pass the time on our road trip to Connecticut. I love how colorful it is so you don't feel as bad when you lose. I love the challenge, some words you know you've heard before but if you've never seen them its not as easy to spell them. Worth the Install.

Difficult words. While I find it occasionally fun and enriching to look up the often bizarre and archaic words that are frequently chosen in this game, it can also be frustrating. Having a college degree, my vocabulary is at the very least strong (English is my first language). However, this game continues to use word after word that I would argue most native English speakers don't know. This takes the fun out of the game. I would recommend downloading a competitors app.

Hangman. VERY fun to play, BUT.....the level of the words that are used is not for the average adult and definitely not for children. If the game had a selection for easy, medium, and hard words, the play would be a lot more enjoyable. A word Sannyasin (noun): (a Hindu religious mendicant). Come on man... I speak English and therefore I can not understand why anyone would expect people to know words like that.

Test prep. I enjoy this game very much. I like that you have 10 guesses for each word, so you can solve most of them and prolong the game. I especially like having definitions offered so you can build vocabulary. Even crazy words use roots. Using the game as SAT prep.

Hangman44k. Fun game, but many words are so obscure, you may lose purely because you have never heard of the word and probably never will again. It allows you to look these words up, but many are archaic or of chemical origin -- not exactly what I would consider valuable knowledge.

Definitions. Some of the words are so "hard" that when you try to look them up you find that there is no definition (at least not in the dictionary provided.). Apart from that, it's a good game.

Hangman 44k. Awesome game! Best hangman I have played. I love it that my 6 and 8 yr olds love it too. They love that hangman has different colors, gives you lots of chances to guess the word and most importantly you get scored. Oh and you get to look up the meaning of the word.

Obscure words. Good game! Sometimes the words are absurdly arcane, obscure, or obsolete; or are terms of art that would be known only by people with very specific training. They should be standard dictionary words, not "wikimedia" words. I would also prefer that my high scores after 3 "lives" be saved for my future reference. Otherwise, it's enjoyable and challenging.

Like the good old days. Reminds me of when we use to do it on paper with friends. Although your words tend to be a little more obscure. For time just the same.

TOO Challenging. There's challenging, and there's too challenging. I got to level eleven before I'd used up all my lives. On three occasions I got it to all but one letter, and still had no idea. On two of those occasions, my husband also had no idea. Please note: neither of us is lacking in either intelligence or vocabulary. The words are beyond the touted "above fifth grade" level. They are obscure argot that the majority of the population would simply have never heard. I've deleted the app.

Good...if you're a genius. Don't get me wrong. I'm no dummy and I like learning new words, but most of the words I've encountered so far are obscure or not even real. I was shocked to have "oolitic" as one of them, which is a term I learned in a geology class. Not a common word just anyone would know. I'll be deleting this app.

Great Game. Both my husband and I are hooked. We play for awhile everyday after breakfast. It's a game you can play solo and come and go anytime or play in a group allowing each person to pick a letter. Have it on my phone and eyepad. Wouldn't leave home without it!

Ok, but.... Too many obscure, non-English &/or archaic words. Too many suffixes added on to "create" a word. Bounces around between American and British English, which gets confusing. And tends to define a word with the word - hardly helpful. Still, it's addictive.

My favorite.. Yes, there are some words I've not read before, but I find that stimulating to the ol' gray matter! I love that I can read the definitions of those words and add them to my vocabulary. I really love Hangman for odd moments waiting or when calming down for sleep.

Good But.... It's great having a 44,000 word database, but these are some super out-there words!! One of the easier ones I hit on was "Endocrine". If you're a biology or chemistry major, this might be for you. I do have a pretty good vocabulary, but it's a good thing this app includes word definitions.

Good game for Gran. Like hangman. These gamemakers provide great support. I know many words (probably because I'm 82) but learning new words. However, in my mind there are some that are Scrabblebabble "words" - thus the missing fifth star.

Fun and challenging. Although some of the words are so obscure even the more linguistically educated among us need a bit of luck to guess the spelling and then need to look at the definition to know what the heck we just spelled, this game is fair, fun and challenging. I like it better than the other hangman options I have found and plan to keep it.

Hang in there. This version is ok, I wish it had something showing the category, it's like going in blind. And some of these words are like never heard of. But for the most part it's great for killing time and for kids. They learn new words. Me too.

Simple to play; requires dictionary-of-rare-words mind to win. Works great and is engaging with a straightforward, simple interface. The rarity of some of the words borders on annoying, though.

Sharondipity. I really enjoy this game. It would be more enjoyable if fewer foreign words were used. Of course most words in the English language have a foreign derivation, but not using so many difficult, rarely used words would suffice.

Omajudi. Even though I've never heard of some words, I enjoy the challenge of trying to figure them out and learn their definitions. It's a great brain exercise!
