WBTV First Alert Weather App Reviews

App good, forecasts misleading. The app is actually pretty good. I downloaded it solely for the weather radar that the basic phone weather app doesn’t offer. But WBTV’s forecasts have become increasingly more misleading. When dense clouds cover the entire region, it’s not ‘fair’ outside. Fair skies lead us to believe it’s sunny with blue skies.

Neighborhood weather man. My husband things he is a behind the scenes weather man. He ALWAYS get its right! His secret??!? This app. He says it’s the only weather app that hasn’t let him down! Hourly, daily, even video updates.

Love this app. I really like this app. It is always accurate and up to date. I wish it was available on my Apple Watch.

This app is useless. Ads continuously play, causing me to be unable to get any other Information about dangerous weather. If a dangerous storm were to roll through I would not be (and haven't, in the past) be able to stay abreast of the information. This makes this app literally useless and totally unusable.

This app is the best it can’t stop telling me there’s is going to be rain but thank you WBTV ALERT. I love this app

Buggy. App has been freezing lately! This is my go to weather app, but it may be time to find another. I trust this app because it’s always been on point but the freezing is too much!

Needs to be better. The version before the current was probably the best it’s ever been. The version they have now you have so many things to choose from as far as alerts and you can’t figure out what’s what… in this version? You have so many overlays that just doesn’t need to be there…. Really all we need to see is current and future radar. Half the time the radar won’t even show up because it just won’t load so you have to go out of it and go back in just to see if it works. Sometimes when you open the app and go to the radar all you see, is the directional paths, but not the images of the storms. This app definitely needs some work done so people will be happy.

Traffic. The newest version is not as good as the one a few months ago. You use to be able to toggle and see traffic anywhere in NC. Now it only covers around Charlotte. Very disappointing. Especially for people who travel around areas other than Charlotte. Please go back to the old traffic maps!

Ads and sound issues. Clicking on the app’s Notification “Tornado Warning Issued - Click For Details” took me to an Advertisement! That’s some pretty screwed up priorities. Worse, while the ad’s sound was very loud, there was no sound on the video about the Tornado Warning. In general, the app generates too many unimportant Notifications every day. Stick to problems, like Tornado Warnings.

24 hour radar freezes. For some time the 24-hour radar display freezes about half way through the timeframe. This happens on IPhone 13 and new iPhone 16.

What happened?!. I hate that they took off the past and future options on the radar which was really helpful. This app has also become very slow within the last couple months probably do to so many ads on the screen 😕

Was 5 stars, now 3. This latest update is a BIG disappointment. The landing page used to be compact and easily readable. I could look at current conditions that included Dew Point & Humidity. It no longer shows Dew Point. Video is running as you scroll down the page, which means reduced battery life. Will probably start looking for a replacement. And what’s with the duration of the ad splash page before it loads the weather landing page? Have you added some more time to it?

Ads make it hard to use during a weather emergency. During last tornado warnings when I was trying to get in a safe place I had to fight with ads to find out what was going on. At this point the ads are so encompassing they’ve rendered the video portion unusable but we do look at the hourly/daily and radar part of the app.

Alerts Audible Inconsistent. I have all the settings on and the notification comes to screen but no sound or every other time. Lucky I’ve caught it pop up each time. Also the video cuts off before anchor is done so I wind up going to check weather elsewhere. 👎🏻

Emergency Notifications are really just ads. My issue is the emergency notifications. Twice now on separate days, I’ve received a tornado warning alert. I click on the link (as directed) and it shows a TINY map with an arrow pointing to the area. FOR 3 SECONDS OR LESS! Then it immediately goes to an ad! There’s not enough time to even focus on the map, much less know where the arrow is pointing! This is supposed to warn me of a potential deadly weather event, and I’ve got a split second to focus before I get a 20 second stream of ads? Really? Come on y’all, you can do better! This is unacceptable!

Weather. I love when it lets me know what the weather is going to be

Ads. Way TOO many advertisements!! Especially when there is a special weather alert. Example: Tornado Warnings, Severe Thunderstorm warnings. Why would have ads when there is life threatening warnings?

Incorrect radar. For the last few weeks the radar on my iPhone has been incorrect while it is correct at the same time on my iPad. What can I do to correct this?

Good weather app. This is a good weather app, but it like all of a sudden there are too many ads. Before and during the app.

Comment. Usually very accurate but the temperature is several degrees lower than forecasted. (A departure to the safe side).

Remove ads for accessing critical weather updates. Whenever there is a tornado warning, you are made to watch an advertisement BEFORE being able to access or get critical updates on the timing of the tornado.

Comment. Update more often.

Worthless. I’ll always watch WBTV, but this app is worse than useless. It’s dangerous. It doesn’t always show a radar reading, and when it does, it is NEVER correct. It’s always different than what’s being shown on Chanel 3, always. Giving such misleading weather information is just plain dangerous when people rely on it for planning their daily lives. It will show clear skies in my area while a storm rolls through. Don’t use this app to plan any outdoor activities. You just might find unexpected thunder and lightning overhead.

Weather app review. There are too many advertisements in the app, too many notifications sent out daily and too many references to use the app on the newscast. We know about it, we can choose to use it but shouldn’t have to in order to be weather aware.

Alerts with storm overlay?. Did you get rid of the ability to look at alerts (like a tornado warning) overlapping the radar? It seems I now have to choose between either viewing alerts or the storm systems themselves with no option to do both at the same time. Really hoping this is a user error and if so, let me know so I can change my review.

WBTV. Your weather app is absolutely the best! Only thing that is lacking is the need to add the wind direction and speed to the Daily Section. It is absolutely annoying have to shuffle back and forth between the Daily Section and the Hourly Section just to obtain the wind information. Please fix this anomaly. Thank you.

Tornado warning not picked up. Tornado 15 mins from my home was not picked up by this stupid weather app. My home security system alerted me and my family's other weather apps such as the weather channel notified everyone but me. This is life threatening news, so what good does this app do me to show me rain if it can't alert me to seek shelter??! UNINSTALLED!

The weather. It it helps me see what is happening

Constant glitching. Every time I open the app and go to check the Radar or Hour to Hour weather, my screen glitches to a wall of text until I return to the home tab and select what I was originally going to look at.

WBTV Weather💯. Yes I check the HOURLY Temp Too! Since my health won’t allow me to be out shopping in High or Very Low temps! ThankYou WBTV for ALL you are! I Luv your mornings & ALL who are on there John Carter‼️💯

Daily weather forecasts. Enjoyable programming but I don’t enjoy the commercials! I watch other weather stations to avoid all the extra programming .

App won’t load correctly. In the last month this app has been horrible! If you check the radar once, it won’t load again until you clear it out completely and restart it. It doesn’t load the radar future in a seamless manner, it is very slow and stutters. PLEASE FIX THE ISSUES

Great Station. Their weather app is improved over the last two years. Way to go! Great station too!

Weather. Thanks for constantly keeping me informed.

Too many adds. If a severe weather alert is so important to send a notification don’t make us watch an add first. The screen is too cluttered and full of adds too. Last update once you open the app then watch the add and start to look at the weather within 5 seconds it puts up all the weather news alert articles and you can’t see the weather making the app useless. It use to be a good app.

Weather. I like the way Eric explains the weather as a teacher would.

#1 Weather Team. It’s not a surprise that the #1 Weather Team has the #1 Weather App. I rely on the this app 24 hours a day. I’m notified of all situations from thunderstorms to snow and ice. Thank you, WBTV!

Time to find another weather app.. This latest update/redesign is terrible. The main weather condition page has been turned into a seemingly endless scroll with ads in between every weather box. They’ve also put those clickbait ads that have ruined so many websites at the bottom of the sections. So when you scroll (and you will doing a lot of scrolling) you will be greeted with utter garbage that you will likely accidentally tap. TLDR - This ‘redesign’ was done just to cram more garbage ads in their weather app. Steer clear and find something else.

Notifications. I only signed up for severe weather alerts. However I get morning afternoon and evening notifications giving general weather information. Why? That’s not a severe weather alert. I get woken up at 1030 at night for that?

Too many ads. The app’s effectiveness is diminished by the ads that appear before the features can be viewed. In an urgent weather situation, one does not want to wade through so many ads. Could the ads display with the requested page?

To all the weather people. I think you all do a very good job with the weather forecast and alerting all the viewers of possible dangerous conditions my hat is off to you all thanks Darrell Chapman of Hickory NC

Weather forecast. I very much appreciate and enjoy this app having used it for several years now since it became available. Have always depended upon WBTV for most dependable and accurate news and forecast. One improvement I suggest is to have more frequent weather updates and forecast. As of late there’s too much time between updates. Thanks.

That was a waste of 5 minutes. Unfortunately I downloaded before reading reviews. Like others mentioned you have to watch an ad before getting the alert. Chintzy and below the belt for what i consider as the best weather team in CLT. I’ve already deleted this waste of time. I guess I should have expected 💩 from a Penguins fan.

Weather App. For a long time, there has been a problem with the app. When you try to look at the daily, weekly, etc on the home page, it jumps to another page. I tried it on another person’s phone, & it did the same thing. I contacted someone at WBTV a long time ago, but it is still doing the same thing. I have been forced to use another app besides the WBTV app because of this. I really wish this could be corrected. That is why I gave only one star. Otherwise I probably would have given 5 stars.

Good app with an annoying bug. I don’t know why all of these apps seem to be designed to interrupt you all the time. There is a page that shows current weather stories that keeps popping up without request and I keep having to navigate away from it. Really tired of the interruption culture app developers have embraced.

App crashing. I never used to have a problem with your app But now it never hardly works. It is always crashing and never displays the temperature or anything like that even when I’m changing locations and reinstall your app you need to fix your application. It used to work now. It does not work anymore.

Take my money!. This app is the most accurate if you want to know the weather forecast for Charlotte NC area, but I would gladly pay for a less cluttered ad-free experience.

Review. Too many ads when I’m trying to find something. I didn’t download your app to look at ads

Map out of date. The satellite map is 8 years out of date and some major cities are missing.

Stop showing ads in weather emergencies!!!!. Tornado warning issued in my area and we can’t get to the warning or video to see what’s happening for having to sit through an ad.

Focus. Prints too small for the central issue- ads override weather

Too many ads. I understood having an ad when the app first opened, but in the test release there is now an ad covering the bottom of the screen, and the 4 major controls for the app. It's now nothing more the a display of corporate greed. Come on WBTV, this is a weather app that is supposed to keep people informed and safe. Remove the ads, I highly doubt they are generating any income for anyone but you anyway.

Tornado warning. Kept receiving alerts for tornado warnings. I can’t belive I had to sit through an ad before I could find out if a tornado was heading towards me ! Deleting

Really bad app. Used to be good. WBT needs to learn how to keep their hands off pf something that works. Do yourself a favor and get something else. At this moment I am riding the a thunderstorm and no clouds on radar. Permanent deletion. Y’all can go screw yourselves, don’t do it to me.

Will not launch. When I open the app, it stops at the Subaru ad ... that’s it. Really worthless at this point.

What a HORRIBLE app.. The weather is inaccurate like there’s no thunderstorms in my area and you app says there is (yes I know what the word scattered means) but what if there’s a tornado and it just says tornado watch?

LOUD RUDE ADS. I just deleted your weather app. I received a notification to read about this weekends potential severe weather. I am sitting next to a sleeping infant. My phone is on vibrate so I dont wake her. BAM! This amazingly loud advertisement plays. I scrambled to shut it down but could not for about 5 or 10 seconds. Figured I could read the "important" weather information again since the rude advertisement already played? NO. IT DOES IT AGAIN! Done. Your app is deleted and my review is 1 star. Holy cow, that is how fast you lose a customer.

App not functioning. Have not had any functionality for 2 days.

Future radar stinks. Future radar is virtually useless. Almost never correct.

Won’t load. App has been unusable for two or three days now. Loads the Subaru ad and that’s it.

Seriously unrealistic. I saw that for three weeks they said I was gonna get a fort of snow. Then, it changes two hours in advance, and says it’s gonna be 60 degrees. 🤦‍♂️

Video advertisements too long. Not a fan of having to watch an advertisement before a weather alert, especially when it is a severe storm warning or watch.

Needs option to customize alert sound. I want to be able to hear it if it's a tornado warning and I'm asleep...it needs a lot more options for customizing the alerts. Really has none, just sends you to the iPhone settings where you can do nothing

Getting worse. I have had this apps for a long time and it was great, now it’s starting to have the wrong lows with 70’s across the board at night and no radar coming up. The other weather apps are working much better.

Warnings, Threats, and Video. My favorite part of the app is where they issue a warning but make you watch a video before you can see where the imminent threat of danger is. Good times.

Crashes. It was a good app. And now today I can’t even load the app

Subaru. The fact that the Subaru add lasts so long when you open the app, makes me not want to ever get a Subaru. It makes Subaru = frustration. If it was a 2 second add, it would make a world of difference

Weather radar for iPad.. I thoroughly enjoy the weather app for iPad. Especially the earthquake notices. However, when I try to check for local radar for precip and cloud cover all that shows is the storm point and direction of it. I have to go to the weather channels app to see storm clouds and intensity which is most important. I have to go for the weather channel app to actually see the precipitation and intensity. The radar is much easier and boulder than the weather channels. Your immediate attention would keep app as my favor source for weather info. Please correct the proble because I don't want to rely on Othtvdtrhjig

Not Good. Many times App shows a blank screen during electrical storms. Have used this App for over 5 years but lately it just doesn’t work properly. Sorry but that’s my honest review ☹️

Weather. The graphics on the other map were much better.I don’t like the dark,drab, colors on this one.

Home screen and hourly temps are always different. The home screen temp and the temp under hourly is never the same. Sometimes as much as a 10 degree difference.

Meh. Needs an update! Radar doesn’t work properly so what’s the point?

Location problems. The location keeps going to null,EC rather than where I actually am which is approximately 30 miles from Charlotte.

Probably my most useful app.. This is a really good weather application! You can adjust the map view to show the weather wherever you are, not just in Charlotte. I use it often!
