Sun review app. Problems at first as the app would shut down but seems to be working now.

No review because.... Cannot access the app. Followed all the instructions and still cannot access the app. This application is difficult to access and maintain connection. When I was able to speak with someone about the connection, treated has a moron. Eventually, will try again to access the app and maybe write a review that is favorable.

Unbelievably confusing.. I don’t think that anything I see or can find looks anything like the newspaper. I have no idea how to find the puzzles so can print them out and some things that look like info are really commercial efforts.

Gainesville sun app. Excellent UI and full access to the local Gainesville newspaper.

Awful. What an awful app. I’m a print and digital subscriber and extremely unhappy with this app. Photos are cropped so people’s heads are cut off. The arrangement of story lines on the left makes it more difficult to navigate to news (some of us don’t want to start with the sports section). Has anyone at the Sun actually used this ?

Better. The update makes the app much better. Easy to navigate. Doesn't crash anymore.

Gainesville Sun. This new app is AWFUL, compared to the previous iteration. The old one took me directly to the pages of the Sun, didn’t have all kinds of things around the sides and bottom, taking up space for reading the articles, and, most importantly, didn’t have ADS! It’s so annoying to be in the middle of reading an article, and an ad pops up! I will definitely not be extending my online subscription to the Gainesville Sun past this month. We had already canceled our paper subscription after 33+ years, and unfortunately we will be canceling the online version.

When it works. When it works, it is great. But I have to tap on it and wait, it closes out, and I tap again. This morning alone I have done this 4 times and it has yet to bring up the site. Very Frustrating!!! And it has yet to work since I wrote this review :/

Great summary of local news and sports. This app is a huge improvement over the previous app. It displays a few articles in several categories in an easy to read format. It doesn't replace reading the entire newspaper but as long as it remains free it provides a great summary of the local news, sports, etc. to read on your mobile device.

It’s a Digital world and this app is cr*p. The only thing worth clicking is “top stories.” Thus, No easy way to track timely daily local news! No easy way to separate state from national news. Click “news” and guess what! No news! Maybe one story a week old and the rest random stories from the last 3-6 months. They must not tag or metadata their stories so the section selections are dated and useless. Embarrassing app for what they charge Andrew for enticing subscribers in a digital world. Do better, Sun! Even my hometown newspaper is better.

It's NOW OFFICIAL: This app is totally useless. This app is now officially crap - and the website isn't much better. I had suspected that digital-only subscribers like me (whether app or via web browser) were missing important local stories that appeared in print, but I confirmed that suspicion this week. What an embarrassment to be the only person in your business who hasn't read the big local news which appeared on the front page of the print edition! I understand the paper has changed hands again, but they're still happy to debit my card every month for the subscription fee. I tried the app on my iPhone 5s this morning - and it is permanently frozen. The app is crap and the website lacks very important stories. Time to end my subscription.

Not bad. This is not the best news app ever, but it's not bad. I actually kind of like the notifications (have them in pretty much every other app), because they're not too frequent and they're my local news, after all.

My Gainesville Sun experience. Hi, I bought a digital subscription to the Sun hoping it would resolve the unbelievably difficult experience I was having with my GatorSports app. I have been a huge fan of Pat Dooley and Robbie Andreu for years. Try getting in touch with a live person on the phone. I know I could use the Internet, but A. I am old and B. I cannot type as fast as I think(Covid Brain Disorder). Thanks, Sandhillsgator

Terrible and awkward navigation. This is a frustrating toy that impedes finding information in the newspaper.

Terrible. Terrible, unusable , no access to suspension for vacation use. No instructions, account sign in directs to subscriptions as if one was not already a subscriber. Worse than useless.

More information. I have read the Sun since 1985 Over he last 10 years it has gotten smaller and less informative. Mainly less local news. Much more city news was produced mainly because you had a city beat writer that put out commissions agendas from county to city. A few bits of information have made it through but a vast majority has not. These actions protect the powerful in our are to push the boundaries and beyond. Everyone I speak to are not happy in the direction our area is going. This all starts with the weakening and cutting by the Sun our information guardian of our area More information and local news needs to be added Thank you for your time and consideration. Font sizes much to small. No apparent way to adjust fonts.

What happened?. Previous versions of the app were much faster. The current version is slow to load and frequently will freeze or crash on my iPad.

Accepted discount, charged full petite. I accepted an offer for 99 cents for 3 months, only to be immediately charged the full amount for the first month. Mistakes happen, but not getting a refund feels like bait and switch.

Used to be great. I used this app regularly for several years suddenly it is crashing and won’t load anymore. Lately the news has been old and not updated. It really does have potential if I could open it and get the front page updated so it’s not always high school sports

White Rino. Great small city paper. App has been working all the time. Keeps me updated city & College events. Really enjoy keeping involved in current events.

Horrible App. This App has many problems, especially regarding restoring Apple purchases.

Glitchy, annoying. The homepage stops my music playing as if some story on the homepage has autoplay. This continues even after I click play on my music again. More frequently, the page reloads and the screen shifts to a different location. This makes scrolling incredibly annoying since I lose my place on the homepage and have to scroll back up. This happens everytime I use the app. The same thing happens when reading articles which is even more frustration. The app is terrible.

Pages not updated and trying to charge for access. This app has great potential of achieving 5 stars. However it cannot, when 1) the same pages appear day after day and are not updated, especially on weekends; and 2) it attempts to charge readers to access articles, after being at no charge for years. Please allow readers unfettered access and update the news at least daily if not twice a day - and make your policies known to the readership and users. Thank u.

Digital subscription. My computer says I have a subscription but your online representative says I do not. He said I must re-subscribe. Now I’m being charged for two subscriptions. I’m very dissatisfied with your service.

Gainesville Sun App. nice app. has most of the major headlines that the daily paper covers. actually a little slow at posting some stories. also big drawback is no comics

More content. I have an online subscription, which is convenient and I can read anywhere. However, it is not like having a real subscription. When side by side I look at the print and online editions, I am not getting all the stories. Would like to see a true subscription.

Obituaries. Why are the obituaries from Ocala?

Subscriber. I only use the app when my paper doesn't show up. Which is getting to be once a week lately. The info on the app is mostly the same as what was in the previous days paper.

Needs improvement!!!. The app freezes up when reading the newspaper all the time and you have to delete and restart constantly.

Today's above the fold 1A story, "not found?". Content is limited. Today's page 1A above the fold story is "not found" using the search feature. So, what was the Sun's biggest story 15 hours ago is not in the list and cannot be found? There is no "local news" category & as already mentioned no obits. No ability to prioritize categories, you can only select/deselect them. I will be sticking with the mobile version & deleting this app.

Unreliable. The app is otherwise fine, but my major gripe is that it completely shuts down if you click out of it for any reason. If you’re reading an article then go to respond to a text, check an email, click a notification, whatever, the app CLOSES and you lose not only the article you were reading but your place in that article. I know that isn’t the way it has to be because no other app on my phone has that issue

Horribly awful!. Why would you make people pay to read articles on a free app? You're losing so many customers by charging to read the news. Choose your 5 articles a month wisely because then you're done being able to open them. This app doesn't even deserve one star. TV20 News app is the way to go! Please stop charging people to read on the app and online just because you're hurting to stay in business!

Sorry you're charging. I've subscribed to and read the Gainesville Sun for several years. It was because the circulation department was unable to maintain my payment plan option straight that I ended my daily service. Sorry but you're not worth any subscription fee for reading the Sun on my iPhone.

Review. I want a print version.

This app is awful. Many problems. I called the Sun to speak with someone to give them feedback and the receptionist told me that she had been instructed by their "tech person" to tell customers to ignore the app and use Safari. So why even offer an app that you recommend customers not use?

Juvenile. They actually want you to pay for this app to see the liberal crap flap coming from them and their mindless lemming readers

Not user friendly. Will not let you search for sections. Just stuck on ‘ For you’. Tried searching for friend in obituary and no obituaries come up no matter what I try.

Don’t waste your money!. What a dope I am. I paid for a 12 month Apple subscription via the App Store. However the G’ville Sun app refuses to recognize the subscription. Both Gatehouse/Gannett (they own the Sun) and the Sun people I contacted were worthless. Through trial and error I learned that if you delete the app and then reload it, it restores your quota of free stories. So every day I delete and download it. Everything was better when the paper was owned by the New York Times

Very poor app. The articles in this app never are up to date, it will show one or two new articles and the rest are outdated by several days. I have seen the same leading article 3 days in a row.

Good App...But.... Nice app, but doesn't include obits or I couldn't find them. Needs to fix that.

Don't ask me, I read the Sun. Or at least i used to, when their app worked. This was first released in 2011 and they have never issued a single update. The student newspaper in town has a better app than this.

Broke as a joke. This app used to work decently (it was never great), but now it freezes and won't display anything. Combine this with the fairly common mistakes and typos of the Sun, and it doesn't I still confidence in the publication overall.

Always Awful. All versions of this app have had crashing problems and the latest is the same if not worse. Crash crash crash!!!

Daily. This has attractive graphic design but the stories are incomplete, frequently out of date, and random in editorial selection. Very frustrating. Does no one mind the store on a daily basis?

Appreciative Alumnus. As a U of F alum, I look at the Sun daily. It keeps me abreast of all the changes occurring in G-ville and the University news. I think its reporting is excellent!

Terrible. Ads are intrusive and annoying. I'd rather pay for an ad free app. Until then, I'll just stick with the mobile version of the website. Better than the app.

For subscribers only.... So this app was good when anyone could read all the articles. Now, they limit the number of articles, so the app is worthless. Of course, on could read the max number of articles, delete the app, re-install it, and repeat...

Gville deserves better.. Wish I could give it zero stars, thought about subscribing once but glad now that I didn't this paper and its app are broke. Someone with know how needs to buy this publication up or become the local competition.

Poor Quality Customer Service. One week ago I was asked to pay my bill for a print subscription - almost 500.00 per year. I was willing to do this, but, when I tried to access my account via the app or even on line, I was unable to pay my account. For one week, I have tried to pay my bill. For one week, I tried to switch to digital and stop print copy. For one week, I have tried to talk with a REAL PERSON. Today, I cancelled my subscription and could not even do that with this app or online. When I did speak with a talking, live person, not a robot, she wanted to help me do all kinds of things to manage my account. NOT NOW! Customer service with the Gainesville Sun is terrible and this app is awful!

Broken...waste of time. App has been reported as sketchy for a while by my friends...but Now I know first hand—app is totally broken and is a waste of time...move on folks, nothing to see here in more than one way.

Downright Painful. As a print subscriber who also wants to read on the go, I end up cursing at the way this crashes, won’t search, and is an embarrassment to its print counterpart! You may look pretty on first glance but don’t try searching for an obituary!

iPhone 6 just released a month ago. And the app is still iPhone 4 size? Come on, I know you can do better than this.

Bad apps. I am a subscriber, no place to search,sections don't contain all of the articles, no Life Section. Very disappointing. Same complaints on old version, is anyone reading these reviews?

Disappointing. Total waste of time and effort, constantly crashing and or lacks content and not to mention the extremely left leaning opinions. Shame I had to give this even 1 star.

Don't bother. This app has always been a little sub-par, but now is it frozen on stories from 3 weeks ago! I have deleted and reinstalled but it didn't help.

New e-edition. I hate it, you have run the same few stories over and over. I want my front page, local news, less “fluff” and not so much just copied from USA Today. Apps broken. I gave this app 1 star before it broke. I don't see the Gville Sun staying in business much longer if they can't keep up with the digital age. I would pay for this app if it worked.

Bait and switch. Nowhere in the description of the app does it say that after a brief "trial", you must subscribe to the paper to continue using the "free" app. A digital subscription is $11.90 per month. I actually liked using the app but won't support deceptive advertising. 👎🏼

Awful. Where is the news. If you wanted to create a newspaper for primary grades you have succeeded..this is a travesty for anyone who wants real newspaper news. We shouldn't have to pick a picture. It is horrible..and could easily be the downfall of the Sun..
