Member Tools App Description & Overview

What is member tools app? The Member Tools app provides members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the ability to contact ward and stake members, access event calendars, and locate Church meetinghouses and temples. Leaders can also access additional membership information and reports.

Directory. View contact information and photos of members in your ward and stake, including members you’re assigned to minister to and those assigned to you, and update your contact information.
Messages. View messages with important updates or actions needed.
Organizations. View ward and stake callings by organization.
Reports. Ward and stake leaders can view and update membership reports for members of their ward and stake, including recording attendance and ministering interviews.
Manage records. Bishops, branch presidents, and clerks can move records and record ordinances.
Calendar. View event calendars for your ward and stake.
Groups. Create custom groups of members in your ward and stake.
Temples. View your assigned temple, temples nearest your current location, ordinance schedules, submit names to the prayer roll, and set up a temple recommend expiration reminder.
Meetinghouses. Find meetinghouse locations and addresses, sacrament meeting times, and contact information for bishops.
Missionary. Access contact information for the full-time missionaries assigned to and serving from your ward or stake, and refer a friend to the missionaries.
Finance. Organization presidencies can submit payment requests.
Update. Turn on automatic updates and manually update your data.
Settings. Select a light or dark theme for the app, set photo downloading preferences, and allow former mission leaders to view your contact information.

Too many problems with this app. I have been frustrated with app since was created. It is hard to sync, sometimes the app just don’t let you sync. I used to see the self reliance missionaries of my ward and know it says that i have no access to it. Sometimes I open it and close itself immediately. Sometimes just start syncing for ever and never end. Many times it says that my password and id is incorrect and i know it is not. I had to change passwords a lot because this don't let me used my real id and password. I took this app from my apps and put it back and still the same problem or a new one. I am just annoyed by the church’s apps. I have the same problems with the Gospel Library app, Memory and Family tree. For a week I wasn’t able to see all my memories. They just disappeared. I was so scared of losing my journal entries. Anyway, this is a negative review for another app. Please dedicate my time on this apps and fix these problems. I would not use this apps but because of my callings I have too. These apps are very useful when they work properly. Let take advantage of technology and make the best of this apps so we can do our callings better. Thank you.

A necessary tool, that sometimes even works. This app has been a lifesaver so many times for helping me stay in touch with my ward or fulfill callings! This year however it has been very hit and miss as to whether I can use it. Between mandatory syncs that freeze up, but still lock me out of my contacts until they are done, error messages when trying to contact support, and intermittent issues with biometrics for login, I never know if I’ll be able to use it or not. I appreciate the new features over the last few years, but can we please go back to basics and make the app reliable again before anything else?

Cannot log in after update. My credentials no longer work, presumably after the update to version 5.0. I am still able to login to the church website to access my account with the same credentials, but they do not work on this app. After changing my password multiple times and reinstalling the app, I reached out to support. I was given an email to contact them, and after looking into it all they said was to hope the next update to the app fixes my issue. Very difficult to have a church calling that requires LDS tools, and not have access to it. Update: the developer response is a little canned and worthless response asking me to try stuff I have already tried multiple times with multiple members of the support team. You would think the developers would spend time fixing the basic functionality of the app rather than reposting worthless information in response to critical reviews.

Only as useful as members allow it to be. Wonderful app that’s gone through many necessary changes and updates over the years. It’s gotten progressively better, but has one huge flaw: It’s dependent on members to actually participate and get things done. Lol. This is the Church’s issue in microcosm! C’mon people, get your photos posted and info updated. It only works when you do! One thing I’d love is the ability to view a photo roster of any organization in your ward or the entire ward. It used to have this ability back in the day, but has now been removed. This would be super helpful for new move-ins and Stake visitors. Hate fumbling over peoples names!

App no longer works for older devices. According to church app support, this app no longer works per new Apple protocols unless you have iOS 11 and higher. Nothing can be done. Older iOS will no longer work. They church app support suggestion is to do the online internet search to find the info needed. I can't update my OS because will lose access to 9 apps I paid for that no longer exists that I use weekly if not daily. Wish I had known about losing member tool access with the latest syn before hand. Would have saved important member contact info into contact app before hand. Just wanted to warn others that you may lose the app if you do the next syn, and sooner or later, all will have to syn. Older devices are being left behind as the church moves forward.

Consistent issues. Consistent crashing. Syncs do not work. Signing in fails and so a reset of the password is requires. Resetting the password takes 12 hours to register. Tried to contact support and needed to sign in to contact them, which obviously isn’t possible because of the need to rest the password. The workflow isn’t working, there are often failures in buttons, a request to sync. I am often stuck in “update” or “sync” mode. Nothing is improving. And as I have moved I still cannot get in (1 month later) to find a ward and times. Additionally, there should be an option for me, as a user and member, to request my records to be moved - and it should be automated. I shouldn’t have to find a local priesthood leader, which I cannot identify because I can’t find a ward because the app doesn’t work, to get my records moved. It’s record movement, not furniture moving. This really should work better.

Update still sluggish and other problems. Update is better (because now it works), but still not very responsive when searching members in the directory (which is probably the most used feature). Some basic navigation buttons can be pretty sluggish too. I’m on an iPhone 15 pro max. And the meetinghouse feature kinda doesn’t work a lot of the time. I type in a specific address and no meeting houses populate (I don’t share my location with the app). However you can type a city and state and one location appears on the map. why can’t we see on the map all the chapels in Mesa within a certain radius? And to just show the jankiness of the app, I can actually select the word “meetinghouses” on the meetinghouses screen and delete it/type over it. This feels more like a beta version. The other problem is the same with the library app… they are constantly changing major UI elements.

Syncing Issue Resolved - Instructions. So the syncing issue, for me anyway, has been going on for quite some time. I’ve developed Apps in the past and finally had some time to dig in and dedicate to testing this one, to see if I could find a pattern to the issue. I’ve been able to reproduce the issue and fix it multiple times now. Here are steps I took to fix the Syncing issue. For reference I am on the latest update of iOS on an iPhone 11 Pro. - Here is the fix - Open the app and immediately click Help in the upper right of the screen, Click Sign Out / Reset and then OK. Then, Delete the App from your phone and then re-download it. Sign in and accept the permissions. Sign in and let it update. The update will likely take a while, a few minutes (3-5) for me. It should work. It worked for me a few times on a few devices. Here’s the other important thing. If you want to make updates much much faster go to Settings, under the More... menu and turn off Download Photos. The issue may actually be caused by turning on Download Photos. This is a great app, when it’s syncing. Enjoy.

Continues to be almost unusable…. Another update and the same longstanding issues persist. No appreciable change. Search continues to be buggy. Frequently locks up. Often the keyboard freezes in position making it impossible to use the bottom navigation. When you click on the directory icon there is always a pause, especially when trying to search the Stake Directory. I have the latest iPhone and my iOS is up to date. I think I was able to browse the directory for about 2 minutes longer than normal before the app completely froze. Really disappointing. I am hopeful that at some point the team can get their hands around the issues plaguing this awful app.

The Church is True, this App is Not. This app is atrocious. As a clerk, I see so much potential in its use, but it is a literal pain to work with. It’s glitchy, slow, inconsistent, and with the Church-wide push towards digital/online materials I really hope they either revamp or replace this app entirely. I try to encourage members to get accustomed to everything being online/digital, but when they need to use this app, it can be discouraging. Honestly, I just barely deleted it and plan on just using the church website (which is not perfect either, but is significantly better). I may redownload it, but for now, it is too unreliable. EDIT: Since being reached out to about my review, I redownloaded the app to see if the said changes actually did anything. The app seems a little less glitchy and more user-friendly. I added a star to my rating, because I could tell people are actually trying to make it better. I appreciate effort and genuinely hope this app can live up to its potential. I plan on adding more stars to my rating if it continues to work well. Thank you. EDIT #2: This is significantly better. Thank you.

Constantly logs me out. App has worked great up until several months ago. Using iPhone 11. No longer remembers my credentials, kicks me out multiple times a day. Once I do log back in, after 3-5 minutes of updating it may or may not let me back in. Submitted a ticket for this issue and was given three steps: Turn off the mobile device completely, wait a couple of minutes, then turn it on again. Rebooting will reset the app. Delete the app, wait a few hours and then download it from the App Store or the Play Store. The wait time is crucial to ensure that the old version isn't pulled back up. Go to the More Menu > Settings > Refresh Data. This will kick-start the automatic updates as well. After going through the steps twice on separate occasions, still have the same issue.

So frustrating. I’m locked out of this app because it constantly tells me the church website is down for maintenance when I try to sync. That is completely untrue as I am able to log in to the church site easily every time. So it’s stuck on the opening sync screen, telling me it can’t sync. I have a new phone as of one year ago & I'm running a current iOS. I’ve deleted & reinstalled the app with no improvement. Since we no longer receive paper ward or stake directories, what are we supposed to do to reach other members when this app doesn’t work? This app is an important tool for members. It’s baffling to me that the developers still haven’t fixed it. It could be great but unfortunately it’s completely unusable. Please fix it!

Great app, just a few suggestions. Overall I think this app is great! I think it does a great job when it comes to contacting members and finding peoples numbers in my ward, which I find is very necessary at times. It also is a really great tool when I want to see who the new people in the ward are and their names so I don’t constantly ask them “hey, sorry what’s your name again?” I just look it up haha. A few things I think would make it better are 1. I often find that I need to find someone from another stake but I don’t have access to the stakes around me, it would be infinitely more convenient if I could see as far as the stakes in the area around me to be able to contact people in those wards as well. 2. Another thing is age, it has been very difficult for me to figure out who people in my ward are when they don’t have a picture or ages on this app. I know that only a few people can access age but I feel that it is a very important identification tool and would help immensely if everyone could see age and birthday (even if it’s just for individual wards). These are just a few things I would suggest. Thanks for keeping these in mind!

So glitchy. Let me just start off by saying that this app is a great concept and I’m grateful for it when it’s working correctly, but more and more often lately it’s simply too glitchy to be useful. I’ve had to delete and redownload the app several times in the last few months because it simply stopped working. It’ll work okay for a couple weeks after redownloading it, then those blasted new privacy messages pop up, which I promptly acknowledge and accept, after which my directory goes blank and the only thing I have access to is the calendar. I am a relatively tech savvy person with a relatively new phone (iPhone 13) and it just seems inconceivable to be that an app that’s so widely used within the church should be so glitchy as to be unusable so frequently.

Suddenly Unable to Sync. Like several others note the app suddenly and recently stopped being able to finish it's sync process. This may have been triggered by multiple attempts to sync while the Church's web site was having seizures yesterday. Since the Church's web site became functional again I tried to sync repeatedly (because the app wouldn't let me do anything else), and I tried the usual iOS methods for removing and restoring the app. The fix this time was to go deep in iOS settings and delete the app along with it's data and documents. (Try Settings, General, iPhone Storage, open the Tools app listing and choose Delete App.) This app still needs fixing. Maybe allow customers to kill an obviously stalled sync process and/or clear failed sync downloads from within the app. Maybe prevent the app from trying to sync when Church web resources are glitching. Like others I've learned to expect the app to catastrophically fail at the most inopportune times and function reasonably well only when it's not really needed. Having functioned as a ward, assistant, or stake clerk for around 35 years this app is the only tool so far that has not been reliable. I've been wishing it would get better since it was made available. Function increases have been great. It now needs stability/reliability fixes.

Too many problems. There are so many good things about this app. It is very useful to help reach out to people and also to help fulfill your callings. However, none of this matters when the app crashes. This app crashes way too frequently. I have been dealing with an issue for months with my personal info being set to private. I have tried changing the setting so other members can see my contact info with no luck. When I go to edit my personal profile the app either crashes, or doesn’t update my personal info after I change it. I still use the app regularly, but it’s kind of like riding a bike with flat tires.

New HomeScreen Layout is Horrendous. I’ve appreciated the development of this app over the years. It has become very helpful. The latest release has a horrendous UI and the new homescreen is reminiscent of a windows desktop cluttered with all of a user’s files and shortcuts. There are way too many tile shortcuts and no ability to delete the unwanted ones. Some tiles link to information in other apps. I don’t go the Tools app for handbook information or information related to my calling. Clean it up. I would make fewer tile that had broader categories that opened a screen with related information. Less is more in my opinion and the homescreen is also less functional because I can’t even read the words on some of the tiles. I appreciate the long development hours behind this app and appreciate all the effort there. I also understand the value in honest feedback in the developer process. I would prefer the look of the previous version with improved sync functionality. Keep developing this app and know that what you’re doing is helpful.

Stopped working. Around the beginning of 2020 the app stopped working. Occasionally I will be able to use it briefly before it starts “updating,” & seizes up. I’ve done everything—restarting the app, deleting & reinstalling the app, & even deleting it from settings. Nothing works. Since I have a leadership position this is really inconvenient. It seems to me like the church’s tech was great until the end of 2019. Then it was like they were too ambitious & trying to change everything at once. Websites & content that I used before couldn’t be found, apps (including Tools) weren't navigable & crashed, & I’ve even been disappointed with the Gospel Living app. It hasn’t delivered on promises. Perhaps covid has complicated everything? Maybe my 6S+ is too old to smoothly install the updates? I’m not sure. 😟

Great App. Normally I have no complaints about this app. It’s great and very useful! However, specifically this weekend when I’ve tried to do a manual update it’s been giving me an error message saying that the church site is down for maintenance. That’s not true. I’ve checked and the website works. I’m watching Conference right now through the Gospel Library which I believe it powered by fhe website. I’ve been on the website and it’s not down. What’s going on. I was at a friend’s for the morning session and her app was working just fine. Why doesn’t mine work?

Inexcusably buggy, barely usable. There is no reason for an organization of this size and power to have such a buggy and unreliable app. These bugs have been persistent for what feels like ages now. Certainly years, as I keep having to redownload the app every few months when the sync issue can’t be dodged anymore. - Does not sync. I have to uninstall and reinstall the app every time I want to sync, manual and auto sync features simply do not work. Out of a handful of people I asked, it did not work for them either. - Search is not useful. The search feature is too narrow, for example inputting a phone number does not show the family attached to it. - Does not remember preferred temples. - Modal about app update/“new” stuff sometimes appear 3 or more times when opening the app instead of only on the first open after updating. ??? Who is in charge of this app development, to have not made any real improvements to these usability bugs for years?? If you have teammates who want better funding, usability testing, engineering time, whatever, you should listen to them because this app isn’t even pretty, and that’s much easier to develop than actual functionality. “Usable” by redownloading the app constantly is trash, that accessibility is awful, especially for anyone not tech savvy. Get it together guys

Great app, with more great to come I hope. Great app that makes it easy to connect to your ward, and easily contact anyone. The newest update has also made the UI much cleaner, and up to date with today’s standards. It is very nice. What would make it even better is having the ability to not I only search or categorize by last name, but by first name also. It would also be very helpful if all the pieces of information were standardized in their format such as the phone numbers where some appear with dashes, an others without them. The dashes make it much easier to read when you need to write down a phone number.

Picture this: LDS tools dating app. Hello. I am a big fan of lds tools, I use it every day so that I may remember the names of people I have forgotten. But something very important is missing from this beloved app: a dating function. Just think about it, if people were able to message the cute girl directly from LDS tools rather than stalking her and looking for her number it would take out the creeper aspect. Tools could accomplish so much more and bring to pass Gods purpose of bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of man, is not this the meaning of member tools?? Just think about it.

Great idea, poor execution. As an introverted member of the church, the idea behind this app is invaluable- a place where I can look up my fellow church members and leaders and get their number or address and find a way to connect that isn’t walking up at church and saying “hello, let’s talk” because that’s terrifying. However, many of the aspects of this app make it difficult for me to use, earning it’s star rating- it’s been buggy lately, meaning that I have been too anxious to use it for its intended purpose. The information doesn’t sync often enough (despite my best efforts to push the sync button!) so it often isn’t very helpful. So many people are on “private”- I don’t know if that’s the default or if people are just choosing it, but again, if all of my church leaders are on “private”, I feel like I don’t even know who to talk to much less how to reach them. And there’s no in-app messaging options, which honestly would make my life so much simpler. If these things were updated, especially the last one, this app would get 5 stars from me. But until the technology catches up with my needs, the best I can do is 3 stars.

Sometimes it works, sometime not. TIRED of having to actually delete the app every time I want to sync. Across multiple of my devices, then there’s the older folks in the ward who think they’re doing something wrong because it give them the message about syncing or you’ll get logged out, but then says it can’t sync and eventually becomes worthless. Amazing that deleting and re-installing IMMEDIATELY allows syncing again (for a while). It’s like working on Windows (except I don’t have to reinstall iOS). When it works, it’s a great time saver compared to the church website (which is non-standards compliant and fails all over the leader tools section if you don’t use Chrome — but doesn’t tell you that: just seems like it doesn’t work). Anyway. Good idea, but something fundamentally wrong with this app.

So needed, yet…. Fraught with so many little problems I may become Hindu. - Forced updates (even when you’ve supposedly selected the manual update option), so you can’t even access the program to do anything while the update struggles with the overtaxed servers in Salt Lake. - Did you login? How about logging in again? Oh, you’d like to see the ward directory? Let’s login again just to make sure. You’d like the face recognition option like all your other apps? Sure. Tomorrow we’ll have you type it again… then it will lockup on the update. Then ask you to login again. Wash, rinse, repeat. - Need to send a text to your district? Best wishes. After you login for the fourth time, and wait for the update, it will display the message window on top of a line of names. If you choose to start typing it will become an indecipherable collage of names and text. Try to edit and you’ll select names, or a bit of the message. I found if I swipe up the app two times it will eventually display the information correctly, but you have to type in three lines of text first for it to change. I should say retype three lines of text. After that it will kick in the update. Such a needed app, yet so frustratingly incapable of doing what it needs to do.

Church Apps Need More Investment & Resources. Nearly all of the church apps are full of bugs and glitches now and this one is no exception. Can we please get more IT resources dedicated to these apps and the website? I’m sure those working on it are doing the best they can, but they need more resources to help them fix things and we need more server bandwidth on Sunday mornings to perform basic functions online. It seems like we’re discussing at least one glitch or bug every Sunday, not just on the apps, but also trying to use the website on Sunday mornings. We deserve better with more resources dedicated to this and so do the hard working developers trying to make this app great, but they don’t have the time or resources to do it by themselves. We’re a global church, but sometimes our apps, website, and digital presence feel very amateur due to lack of investment and dedicated resources.

Poor programming. I’ve seen and reported a bug that has persisted for years, unresolved. As of this writing they’ve introduced a new, less helpful UI where you have to scroll past every family member to go through the list. Truly poor UI design. To make matters worse they have apparently put the database update function on the UI thread. A clear violation of iOS programming principles. You can easily see this if you just test the app before releasing to production. The UI is frozen during updated, giving the impression that the whole app has seized up.

I have Faith this app will eventually improve.. “Sign in or sync now” a phrase that instantly scares the spirit away.. and it is shown every time I attempt to use this app. When the “sync now” feature actually works, (hasn’t for several weeks for me) you are left waiting while the app establishes a dial up connection to get the most recent data. Suggestions: 1) get rid of the “sign out or sync now” button.. I wouldn’t have downloaded the app if I didn’t want it to sync.. 2) it would be awesome to be able to pay tithes/offerings via the app. Just a thought. P.s. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is true.. stay blessed.

Would the Church ever consider digital Temple Recomends?. I woke up early to go to the temple with my wife and son and when checking to make sure I had my recommend, I realized that I had misplaced it somehow. Anyway, I had to send the two of them off and it later occurred to me that this app shows my temple recommend status as being active. I don’t know if this would have sufficed, but it did give me pause thinking that a digital version, one that could be added to my ewallet would be very convenient.

Terrible update. Ever since the update, the app has not been working for me. It struggles to load, freezes, kicks me out of the app randomly and important information on members, like their photos won’t show up. Its really getting in the way of my calling. My husband had the same issue and finally got his to work after over an hour or refreshing, messing with settings and deleting and redownloading the app. We aren’t sure what fixed it but now it’s working! We have tried to do the same for mine but nothing is working. I don’t think it’s an issue with my phone because it worked before the update and I have the newest iPhone. I’m not sure what this update was supposed to accomplish, but it made the tools app worse somehow.

Used to be a great app, but has gone downhill. This app used to be great, but the last couple of years its definitely been going downhill. At this point almost everything I try do do on it takes forever. Anything I select takes almost a full minute before it responds. Separately, I still don’t get the issue with needing to “sync” the app regularly. Not a single one of my other apps need to be “synced” regularly to work. If I access this data on my computer, the website doesn’t expect me to sync anything to my computer regularly, so what’s the need for the app to be fully synced? Don’t get it… Third, I’ve been wondering about this for years, but why can we no longer see the birthdays for those we minister to? I guess we don’t “need” the parents ages, but I think we should need the kids ages so we know when they have upcoming ordinances to prepare for. I guess all of this is because we’re supposed to be excellent ministers and ask them for all this info regularly huh?🤔 We used to get all this info on the little slips of paper we used to get at church. Maybe we should go back to that? Prior Review and Rating: Great and getting better! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ One of my more used apps.

Needs fixing immediately. **UPDATE** This is the 2nd review I am sending in. Still having issues with syncing. Please take some time to fix this issue! I would like the benefit of being able to access ward information from my phone in order to fulfill my church calling. I haven’t really had any issues with this app in the past, but lately it has consistently been having issues with not being able to sync manually or automatically. Would really appreciate it if this app could have a major fix through, I use this app for my church calling constantly and it’s frustrating that the app isn’t working on my phone.

Too many bugs!. When it works it is wonderful. It just has too many random failures. For a while my password worked on my iPad but on my iPhone it wouldn’t accept the same password. Before it just lost all info in the middle of a bishopric meeting. And for a couple of weeks the app on my year-old iPhone XR has insisted on updating whenever I open it, even when it’s set for manual updates. Then it spends 10 minutes failing to update and finally tells me Tools is unavailable right now. As a bishop, I really need this app but I can’t count on using Tools on my phone—even though it works great on my old iPad. Please either get this fixed or give us another app.

Great App!. I use this app all the time and it works amazing! So glad we have an app like this now and how we can easily connect with the missionaries as well. There are only two things I would want changed to this app. First, is to be able to save events to other calendars than just apple calendar(I have an iPhone). It won't let me choose my Google calendar to transfer an event from the app calendar to my calendar. Second, it would be amazing to be able to add events in the app and not have to go to the website to do it. Thanks for all the amazing improvements that you keep putting into the app.

Authentication inconsistencies between app and web. I recently changed my password on the website to one generated by Apple keychain. The password works fine on the web. However, at the same time the app member tools started having problems and I could not login again to the tools app on iPhone. Weeks went by and I could not login to tools app but I could login to the website. The tools app kept saying incorrect password. But it wasn’t. It donned on me that all my problems started when I set my password to one generated by apple. So, I changed my password to one shorter and without special chars. Now I can login to both tools and web. Please, fix the app so that it accepts the password provided and does not alter it. Seems what’s allowed on the web differs from what the app can use. These must be in sync to avoid problems like this. Leaving this 1 star review hoping someone there sees this.

Great app. But Every time I login and it says success and then goes right to a blank screen, and no further Lots of login issues and sync process is really hard to get logged in. It has only been happening this last month. I have got my computer and changed password and on my iPhone and on my iPad having a rough time getting on and so far, I’m not getting anywhere. Before the last month, the synk issue has been difficult. I’m back a couple weeks later and everything is working fine.

Good app, poor ease of use. This app is very useful once you get in! Every time I need to use it, to look up a phone number, address, etc. it wants to sync ( i.e., even if I just used it 30 min. earlier!). The sync can be quick, however, it will kick me out & make me re-enter my user name & password! Really annoying! I saved my face recognition & it rarely uses it. This happens when I can’t remember my password, it’s at home, so then I’m locked out while at church, etc. Yesterday I was in our boat with the young women’s group when it stalled. We needed to call for help to the members onshore, & this app synced & locked me out once again! Ugh! Please fix this poor app!

One small bug. When I open the app, immediately a pop-up window says “Warning-You have automatic update enabled but background app refresh is disabled” with the option to “enable in settings” or “disable automatic settings.” When I go to settings background app refresh is set on but is greyed out so I can’t do anything with it. Turning either function on or off doesn’t do anything so this pop-up window appears every time I open the app. How do I make this stop?

Member photos still won’t show up.. The member photos one day just stopped showing up after the new version was downloaded. I have verified in settings that the members photos are turned on and I have deleted and reinstalled the apps several times. It has now been months without photos. My wife has the same iPhone 15 pro max as me and her photos show up just fine. We have fiber optic internet at our home. Every time I try to sync the app it says the members photos data is out of date? Any help would be appreciated.

Unable to see current data. I am having syncing issues it seems. Not able to see current information in the directory. Member’s phone number is changed but I still see the old phone number. She and another sister I checked with is able to see the correct phone number. I have synced twice, no change. I turned off my phone and left it off for over three hours, and still the same. I have deleted the app, waited for several hours before installing again and the same thing. I have deleted it from all my devices, but no different. I do not get the option to reinstall, only to open because it is in the “cloud”. Please advise how to avoided installing the same corrupt app. It is not showing in iCloud in settings.

Great app! At least, when it works.. This app is a handy little thing to use and it’s awesome! Well, when it works, at least. It worked for the first little while, and it was nice to be able to find phone numbers so I can contact ward members. It’s a great way to see who to contact to get information on activities, meetings, etc. It’s a great app, but recently it hasn’t been working. It stopped working a few months ago. It randomly signed me out of my account and whenever I open the app, it brings me to the login screen. The problem with this is it won’t let me tap on anything, it won’t let me type in anything, no matter what I do it stays frozen in place. I have the app fully updated, including the most recent update from Feb. 3rd, but yet, it still does the same thing. I know other people such as my brother who are having the same problem. Please fix this! It’s not just a bug, it’s a major problem. I can’t even use the app or do anything with it except look at the pretty cover (which by the way is a beautiful color). Please, please, please fix this! Otherwise it’s an awesome app. It comes in handy to have. Nice job, with the exception of that problem, but otherwise it’s great 👍🏻

Photo access. I noticed that the developer responds, so here goes. The app has significantly improved. But I’ve noticed updating photos is incredibly difficult. There isn’t a way to manage photo access, so I can’t upload a newer photo of myself and household. The app is currently designed with a private access for photos. Which means in order to use my photos I have to be able manage access to the photos the app can use. But that option is not available or not popping up. Please fix this. It’s very frustrating. I have the most recent version and every time I try to update my photo nothing happens.

Updates are usually unsuccessful. Sorry guys… the tool is great and indispensable; however, it is frustrating the update function does not work. It goes through the update, reports back the update was successful, but the data was not updated… even after waiting 24-hours. Have to delete the app and reinstall it to actually get updated information. I’m not the only one having this problem, several other members in my ward are complaining about the same thing. Running on an iPhone 12Pro latest version.

Tools. This is an app that mostly benefits those with callings in church organizations. Want a better tool where you can message with participating members? Download the Gospel Living app. You can message members, make goals, find inspiration, etc… the only downside to it is the fact that many ward members haven’t downloaded it yet. I don’t know if it’s because they don’t know about it or what but our ward members, other than those with callings, haven’t made use of it. It’s a shame. Otherwise, this tools app is handy, but definitely is a work in progress. Hope they figure out the glitches.

Hamstrung by an inability to update information. The app definitely provides all the functionality it promises, under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, despite having enabled automatic updates and allowed the app to update while wifi is off, the app will not update, not even manually. I just get an eternally spinning progress wheel. This shouldn’t be hard. The amount of information that needs to be updated isn’t large. The app should always be up-to-date. Instead, I’m left with a months-old directory that’s missing a good half of my new ward members, has several dozen people that have moved out, and is full of out-of-date callings. I live in a student ward. There is tons of turnover. The main functionality of the app is hamstrung by an out-of-date directory that does not update. I can’t in good conscience give this app a good score.

Doesn’t get past Updating. iOS 14.5.1 - app wanted to update all the time and would always fail but I could still use it after it failed - finally I chose to log out in effort to obtain a successful update but then it still failed and now I can no longer access member information because now it fails back to the log on screen. I have also deleted and reinstalled it several times trying to get a clean start but same behavior - I can no longer use the app because it will not update. It authenticates me then stops at 1/4 or almost 1/2 of the update circle then hangs and never finishes. Sometimes it advances to almost 1/2 then after a minute or so will rewind the spinner and start over but then only get 1/4 the way and hang again - Updating…

So Much Helpful Info at Our Fingertips. It’s easy to take this for granted, but I remember the days of printed Stake directories. We have it good. I use this reliable, intuitive app for a hundred little tasks and questions: getting around on splits with missionaries, keeping track of kids’ names and birthdays, helping youth sign up for FamilySearch accounts, reviewing new move-ins, and much more. Would love to see in future releases: a map module like the one on LCR; my location and option for driving directions; ability for clerks etc to update info in the app; and reporting for HT (now ministering).

Couldn’t sync, tried signing out, can’t sign in. I love this app and if/once it gets fixed will happily give it 5 stars but good grief, I tried to log on today to get temple/stake information and the entire app just died. I couldn’t sync the app so stuff wouldn’t load, so I tried signing out, then I learned I couldn’t sign back in (I even reset my password in case I just was remembering it wrong), so I deleted the app and reinstalled it, that still didn’t work. So now I’m just sitting here trying to figure out if there’s any way to redownload a previous version so I can get my app back 😅 if we can just go back one update it would be great! It’s just this latest update that seems to have killed it 😔

Hasn’t worked in months. I removed this app from my phone months ago, and every so often (once a month?) I try redownloading it to see if the issues have been fixed. Not a chance. I am not able to download/sync my data/properly sign in regardless of how often I uninstall and reinstall this app. It just stays stuck on the “updating” wheel. On the random occasions it does sign in (when whichever stars seem to be aligned), it refuses to remain signed in and/or doesn’t let me navigate away from the “Updates” page to access my actual information. I think the last time I was actually able to access my ward info from this app was maybe... June or July? I’ve kinda given up on the app. Maybe one day they’ll fix it, but in the meantime I have been using the church website’s Ward/Stake portal to get ministering and committee information—which is a lot worse in terms of design and UX, and is a headache to use, but at least it LOADS.

Can’t update. The member tools app is good at showing you the people in your ward. However, it doesn’t perform any updates at all when I change my info. My photos are super old and I had to ask my ward clerk to update my contact info because every time I did it reverted back after I closed and reopened the app. Very frustrating user experience. Also, when I moved wards I had to uninstall and reinstall the up for the sync to work, otherwise it just showed the spinning circle indefinitely as if it was syncing but it never finished. I would love it if the church would put a little more work into the app. As a small business software developer, I can tell you that we would go out of business if our app performed like this one.

Excellent leadership and ministering tool. Excellent app. Definitely a valuable element of hastening the work. I particularly like the address hotlink to google maps that helps me navigate efficiently between member home visits across the ward.

Good App. This is an app that gives me all the things that I need, MRN for recommend interviews, youth birthday interviews, etc. it's reasonably robust and easy to use. Another good app by the church.

Ok but needs work. Lds Tools is a great app and really useful but it needs more information like chapel and stake centre addresses. Also the information is often wrong and it takes a long time to get it corrected

Doesn’t work. Disappointing but it’s impossible to log in through this app with the details you use through other lds websites. Hopefully they will fix soon - but it has been broken for some time.

LDS Tools. Good application. Would be great if you combined Ward Tools with it. Also having it sync directly with Outlook allowing the appointments to be added to the standard calendar and not a separate calendar would be great.

Fantastic. Use this app all the time. So good when you are trying to learn the names of members in the stake and our ward. Love the photos and contact details for our missionaries serving in the field. Very helpful as we have a calling working with the RMs in our stake.

Very useful app. I use it several times a week. I would like a help function though, especially for the home teaching function . I still haven't worked out how to use that function. Great directory information though. Especially when serving in the bishopric.

Wonderful.... But...... Normally this is a great app. However, I have been unable to update my data for days. I keep getting an error in relation to 'Assignments'. I can't even get to the tools. My data is accessible via the website, but I want to have it in the app! Finding it almost impossible to find help for this problem. Can't find an email to contact someone to tell them about this issue. As we say n Australia: Not happy, Jan!

Can’t sign in. The application worked perfectly till a couple of days ago I guess people a having the same problem can’t sign in at all I’ve deleted the application and reinstalled it it went from hero to zero pretty quick.

Great resource, could be better. The LDS Tools app has been a great help in keeping in touch with church members and organizations in the stake. A couple of points need to be worked on to improve it: - Calendar format is awkward, all-day events are incorrectly listed as starting on the previous day. - Some members have withdrawn their contact details from the membership list due to concerns about people losing their iPod/iPhone with the app installed, and then having their contact details in unknown hands. Some form of security would be appreciated.

LDS Tools. Great when out and about and feel impressed to contact a person. Only wish we could have other Stake Pres or Bishops from other wards contact details. Xx

This is awsom. I've been on the run needing to call some one and needed there number to tell them I will not be there on Sunday now the ward list is on my phone its awesome hope the calendar function is working soon

LDS tools. For church members in leadership positions the is as invaluable tool. However an SMS or message needs to be sent to those on the list to update their details if they are incorrect. With the onus on the individual not ward clerks only to do this.

Great app but could be exceptional. Good app, would be fantastic with a bit more functionality. VT & Home teaching reporting, better calendar, access to tithing and donations as at statements outside of MIS or whatever it is called nowadays. And the ability to put notes against calendar items. Often details are not out up by leaders and it would be good to be able to add your own notes. Syncing with all iOS hardware would also be good

PDF version. A great concept and very helpful. Our stake no longer hand out calendars any more and the PDF version available looks so much better the way it is set out. Can the stake PDF version also be added as another option? If it is added with the ability to also be updated that would be great. The ability to find members with there details and map is a big help, when kept updated. Not much is free these days, so thank you very much.

Great App!. It would be great if I could move individual events in the calendar to my iCal from the app. This would allow me to see what's in the calendar on the ward and stake level in the app and copy the events I am involved with or plan to attend into my personal calendar on my phone or iPad.

Calendar. I have found this App very useful. Moving into a new ward allowed this ancient fossil was more able to check the ward positions against the face and more easily identify the correct person/calling. This a great app. I would like a different format for a Calendar though, perhaps some colour options would be a decided advantage for those of us who priorities colour in our learning processes

Lds tools. Very helpful as Ward Clerk. This on the go app really helps me I'm my church calling as ward clerk. I have access to additional records that assist me daily to carry out my calling

Horrible half-baked release. As a stake exec sec, this new version of the app is horrible and makes everyone’s job harder. I’d expect a better result from a dev team working on the supporting software for ‘the work of salvation’. Please get better QA testers. Even the process of leaving bug feedback is horrible. I had to type out my issue (multiple paragraphs) 3 times before it finally saved. The app just kept deleting the text I was typing Please fix, or roll back to the stable version Very excited for this new version and it’s features, but it was NOT worth it if it doesn’t work. It’s not ready for prime time. It should never have been released to the public.

LDS Tools. I absolutely love this app. as well as the continuing updates on of our standard works. I have read my first copy of The Book of Mormon 6 times and I highlight everything I feel is important and the entire book is now entirely highlighted and is unreadable !! I also did this to two full sets of our entire Standard Works! Log ins doesn’t work. App used to be great and then it stopped recognising my user name and password. I know log in details are correct as I use them on the web site because the app doesn’t work. Tried contact tech support and they were about as good as the app.

White screen after logging in. Can’t use this version of the app. Starts downloading after logging in and choosing to sync, then screen just goes white.

Brilliant !!!. This app is a must for all members. At the least it is an address book, at most it is a very powerful tool, it allows you to create lists, of members in your classes. It gives you the ability to see the family address, family members it gives you a map where they live. You can call or email directly from the details.. Wow

LDS tools. Very handy app, it would be good if you could add the calendar to outlook. It is very useful, I love the maps feature handy when you are doing "rescue" visits.

New Update March 2022. After the update I’m having trouble doing Attendance. It will not allow me to mark anyone as present. Hoping it can get fixed soon 😊

Account Locked Out. If you don’t sync the app in time, it will lock out your account.. it will tell you that even your correct information is wrong, and then if you try to change password it will tell you that even word##word##specialcharacter is somehow an easy password and refuse to let You change it.

Used to be helpful. Unusable....enter login details then it wants to update then have to login again....and the cycle continues.

Keeps freezing. As soon as I open it and login, the app freezes after the first tap. Keeps happening over and over.

Directory not showing. App works great on my iPhone but not on my iPad. When I tap on directory it is totally blank. It also keeps asking to sign in and then acknowledge the changes. I sent feedback through the app and I hope someone gets back to me. I can access everything else. Manual update takes too long. The app was upgraded on November 1.

This update is awful. I have had to uninstall and reinstall several times for it to properly update. Sometimes the pictures show and sometimes they don’t. One reinstall fixed this, but the next auto sync lost them. My husband has an older phone and now is unable to use it. I checked my settings to make sure that I had listed my phone as a landline but the app allows people to text me or use WhatsApp. I contacted help but received none.

Can’t complete financial payment. I can upload an image, then I can’t add a category or amount. Please fix!

Never updates. They made it look different (not better, but different) but it still never syncs your data. App sucks.

Works on Macbook Pro (M1) 2021. The program is amazing and I can confirm the program works on a Macbook Pro (M1) 2021. I can also report that there hasn't been any errors to speak of so far.

Place for person notes. I would like to see in an update, a place where members can add personal notes on their profile for others to see.

Glitchy. I would love for the user experience to be smoother. I take attendance for Primary. Sometimes the attendance function shows up and sometimes it doesn’t. Most times I have to login through the browser to complete the task. Please fix. Thank you!

Keeps crashing. Who can fix the bugs? It freezes when I open the app. Turning on and off the phone to reset it doesn’t help. There must be something they can do on their end to fix the crashing issues. It’s not just me, my friends also have problems with it.

Doesn’t work. Haven’t been able to use this app since the last update. Endless updating the data base. Can’t get off that page. Just alternates between the sign in page and the update page. Makes it hard to do my calling without this app. I guess I have to go old school!! Giving up. :(

Church apps. Like most of the Church apps out there, Tools is extremely helpful. However, also like the other Church apps, it is extremely buggy. It frequently crashes or fails to load. The only fix is to delete it from my iPhone and install it again (or again and again)

Won’t update/sync. I couldn’t get it to sync on Sunday so I did some troubleshooting with no success. have tried uninstalling and restarting the phone and then installing again but can’t get past the first 1/4 of the download before it asks me to sign in again. . . Like it’s timing out. I have screen shots in case you want more details.

Won’t update/sync. Love using this app but it very often won’t sync. I throw it out and then download it again, which sometimes works, but other times (today) again it gets stuck with the ‘Updating’ spinner that goes nowhere.

Tap to Sync. I’m still stuck in my family ward from 2 years ago because the sync function doesn’t work. With all the $ our church has getting a new app shouldn’t be a problem

Worst app. This has got to be one of the worst apps I am forced to use for church. My app “updates” but never actually updates the information. The most recent update is the worst. Don’t put the men first. List family in alphabetical order not “head of household”. It’s so unbelievably offensive and backwards to do this - especially in households when the male is not active. Then more so when the mother is divorced and takes her maiden name back and is still listed under the married name (the name her children still have). Do better.

Save failed. I have tried to remove my photo as well as add a new phone number. Every time I trey I get a message that says “save failed.” I find this very frustrating, especially since this has been going on for more than 6 months. Horrible app!

Really bad update. Half information, loss of information, only certain letters of the alphabet you can access. Don’t update this last one messed everything up.

Ministering. I have updated my iPhone to ios18 I can no longer see my ministering members when I open my profile I have to go to the ministering tile to see them

What we need, when we need it. This app is a game changer for my calling. I actually love the reminder to sync, since we have frequent move-ins and outs in our ward and stake. Super handy to have current addresses and phone numbers on my phone. I know how difficult app design and maintenance can be, especially on this scale. Big high-fives to that development team. Hang in there, stick to it, this is one of the most practical modern tools in the work of salvation. Thank you.

Like malware for your soul. Can’t update/sync/loggin/logout/look up anything for the past 2-3years. This app is trash and the team hired to make and maintain it needs to be let go cause they are incompetent. And if I need anything I just get someone to print it out for me. Even if it’s a whole book since their other apps work just as brilliantly as this one. Never met a single person who thought this app or any other the church has made was worth using.

Good effort but needs work. The ward directory is a good feature, use it very often in my calling. Every time I try to use the Missionary tab though, the app crashes immediately. This app has a ton of bugs and hangs up often. It sometimes won’t download new updates data and consistently crashes in certain menus.

Great App. The app is very helpful for connecting ward members and helping us with our callings. I enjoy the app and rely on it for all kinds of activities.

Just get worse and worse. Considering that the Church no longer hands out paper copies and ward info, you'd think that they would spend top quality dollar on this application. It is the worst. Over that last 5 years, updating, syncing etc... never works. I always have to either remove the app or just wait months and try again. Too many issues. The app seems dependent on a wifi or cellular connection. It constantly tries to update even if updates are off. Hangs. Reinstalls fail the same. Poor design. Unusable...

Terrible. This app stinks. It will not update even though it asks me to and even after I have agreed to SEVERAL times. Don’t tell me it’s a network issue. I have tried using 5G and WiFi at home and at church and in just about every other place I frequent. Don’t tell me it’s a device issue. I have a new phone now and it’s the same problem from the last phone to the new one. Don’t tell me that I have to update my device because I have done that too. Don’t tell me that I should uninstall and reinstall because that doesn’t work either. It’s nice to have this information all online. It’d be good if it was reliable.

Just keeps getting better. I love the new additions to the app. Its becoming much more of a tool, and not just a directory. The functionality just keeps getting better with each update.

Test before releasing an update?. Meeting house locator doesn’t work anymore. Turned off auto updates, and still get the pop ups every time I open the app. Have been trying to manually update for 6 months and it still doesn’t work. None of this was broken before. … please tell you developers to google version control. Or ask any 1st year software development student.

Can’t access. This app used work work well. Now, every time I try to go into it, it rejects my password. I have to change it every time, and even then, it won’t always let me in.

Fix bugs. The app is nice to have when it works. The syncing is the biggest problem at the moment. It never completes the sync so it asks every time I open the app. Sometimes I can work around it and sometimes I can’t. Please do some debugging.

Does not work on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I have installed and uninstalled the app more times than I can count and it kinda launches and then has a partial screen where absolutely nothing works and then I just get frustrated and uninstall it hoping the next install will be different. Please brethren, take note of how many people are complaining and fix it properly once and for all. As for me and my house this tool is not in my tool box☹️

Syncing is broken.. The app works until I need to sync, it never works and when I sign out I cannot sign back in even if I can sign into other services

Stopped working on my iPad. I used to use it all the time for my callings, but recently it forced me to sign out and won’t let me sign back in. All it does is spin and say service unavailable try again later.

Lds tools login issues. I am having trouble logging in. It has never happened before. It automatically logged out and said services not available.

Just a bad source of information.. All my information is incorrect like my name & address & I couldn’t even login into the LDS Tools to fix it. I’ve reset my password so many times & checked my email so many times to reset it too. I am giving up on this app. When I thought I entered my email & password correctly it says sorry try again later. It is really hard to reach other members if they don’t have social media or you forget to ask for their numbers. I kept trying every couple days but still says sorry try again later.

Sync Issues. The backbone and idea behind the app is great, and I use it pretty often. My main concern is how it will not update or sync inside of the app. I try to manually and also automatically sync, but neither work. And being that it is now September, and the last successful sync was in FEBRUARY, shows that this has been going on for a while. I’ve seen other reviews that mentioned a similar problem so I don’t know how widespread the bug is. Please please fix it 😭🙏 I’d be more than happy to change to a 5 star review

Needs serious attention. I’m appalled at how badly this app is set up. The security is unnecessarily tight, to the point of asking for the password even if you minimize the app, which can delete your work. Emailing organizations doesn’t work as the Send button is inexplicably frayed out. The pictures for members phase in and out of display unless you go all the way into individual pictures to refresh them. To whomever is managing this app, please take some time to redo the way the app handles basic things like syncing and displaying information, because much more basic apps can do it just fine.

Constantly locked out. The app consistently tells my password is invalid. I’ve changed it multiple times and it works fine on the church website. But nope, never lds tools. I looked up how to get help and was told to contact my tech specialist. I did and he didn’t know how to help. I called the tech line back again, and spoke to someone who took down my problem. She was then going to communicate with the tech specialist and get back to me. At no point could I ever talk to someone directly to get help. As it stands, I am still completely locked out of this app.

Wish it was better. Constant required password changes, which take forever and don’t work for an hour or so after it’s changed, syncing required constantly which the program is disabled after 5 log-ins if you don’t sync. I’m unsure why the password changes are necessary if I use Face ID? The log in issue is difficult because it’s usually during a meeting I have to sync and the wifi in our church is terrible so it takes forever. I’m a high counselor and cannot access necessary info of the ward I’m assigned to which is puzzling. Hard to magnify my calling when I can’t access information I need. Wish it was better

I can never log in.. I unload and reload the app, I changed my password, nothing works. It worked fine for years, and suddenly I can't log in anymore. I'm signed in on my computer, but now I can't log in on my phone. (Which is where I need to be able to access addresses!) I've written customer support multiple times to no avail. What happened? It worked just fine for so long? I even got it to work for a few weeks a couple months ago, but then it started saying "downloading..this may take a couple of minutes depending on your connection." And it never downloads. It just sits there.

Photo Upload. Overall the app is great. I love the functionality and being able to quickly see ward leadership and member contact information. One bug I’ve been running into is with the photo upload. I’ve been trying for weeks to change my family’s photo, but no matter how many times I try and no matter what picture I try, I get a message that the upload failed.

This app *could* be great. As an adult Sunday school teacher I would love this app… if it worked better! Knowing names and pictures of ward members would help me so much. But the pictures don’t sync well (some pictures show up on some people’s apps but those same people’s pictures don’t show up on others’). The “new view options” pop-up never really goes away which is super annoying. The latest version added a bunch of random additional stuff but I would encourage the developers to focus on just doing ONE thing really well - just be a directory that really works!

Difficult for the Elderly. The controls at the bottom are extremely difficult to use for my 92 year old father-in-law. Too small. Consideration needs to be given for poor eyesight and motor control. He relies on Member Tools as a member of the Elders Quorum Presidency, but it’s just too difficult to navigate compared to older versions. Having been required to update due to the fact that his version was no longer supported, he is now left with an app he struggles with. The same issue applies to LDS Library! Thanks.

Unable to See Class Members. I’m unable to see the members of my class in tools, or any members of any classes. I’ve been in multiple callings now and cannot see this information under organizations now. This is frustrating because I do not have access to LCR and so the app is the only way to see updated information about new move ins that are in my class. Is there a way to fix this? I clicked contact us in the app and am unable to do that because I don’t have email setup on my phone. Any help is appreciated!

Great Improvements. This app is getting better all the time. One thing though, you really need to get rid of the notifications that appear on every single button press. When I press a button, I really don’t need a notification to tell me I pressed a button or a notification letting me know what process just happened. That seems like a debug feature and not something the user should be seeing.

Love the idea, could be much better. I love that more functionality is being added, but some things a breaking. - I used to be able to type the cell phone number from a text in the search to see who it belongs to, but that search seems to fail more often than not in later versions. - I get a notification that I can’t clear on Missionary. - sometime the keyboard pops up and I can’t scroll. I have to hit the return key to make the keyboard disappear and start scrolling again. - forget about updating your data on a Sunday, because the servers can’t handle the load. I know it sounds like a lot of complaints, but this totally beats the days of paper rosters. I’m grateful that resources are being spent creating this tool and keeping it up to date.

Won’t even open. I would love to use this app. It has all the information I need. I’m directed to this app when I need that information by my church leaders. I sign in, no problem. And then the UPDATING box pops up and it’s frozen. After waiting 20 minutes, I checked progress and it asked me to sign in again. And then once again got stuck on the same uploading screen. The fact that I tried three time, hoping the app would work a third time proves my insanity as much as it proves the app doesn’t work. I’m on an iPhone 7, fully updated, with the app fully updated, removed and reloaded.

not working. hasnt worked on my iphone for several months. Deleted the app and downloaded it again and i have no option to sign in, help is disabled, literally everything is blank. and was blank before i deleted it. when it wasnt blank 5 months ago, i wasnt able to update it. I would say good riddance but i used to use it all the time. We have a military ward and no way to find the new members in our constantly shifting ward is really doing them a disservice. It seems like the church has enough resources. I wish they would give this to a legit high tech team.

Disappointing programming. I actually called and spoke to someone in the tech department, explaining that many members do not run out and update their iPads to generation 6, and that the industry standard is to make software backwards compatible with previous versions of operating systems (such as iOS) so members don't suddenly lose the ability to use apps they have grown accustomed to using in their callings. Unfortunately, the response was: "Sorry, we only program for the most current operating system. You'll just have to upgrade." Note: I am a programmer - it's not that hard to make software compatible with older operating systems.

Never updates. I have never written a review before but this app has compelled me too because of how dysfunctional it is. I have now deleted and re-downloaded this app 12 times over the past few months. Being in a calling that I have to rely on this app it is frustrating that we can’t get a functional app. Obviously this is no reflection of the church. This app is just incredibly frustrating, and the people who run this app need to address these persistent problems. Finally, once I re-downloaded it for the 12th time it will not let me log in, so now I am unable to use it at all.

It’s useful for other people, but not me.. That is to say, I have problems with it, but others around me don’t seem to and I don’t know why. So for a long time I figured it was a me problem. The recent update made it so I can finally open the app after literal years of not being able to. However, I’m trying to upload a photo of myself so that ward members in my YSA Ward can see what I look like next to my name and attach name-to-face since membership is transient in my YSA Ward since people come and go in the Ward boundaries. It’d be easier for people to get to know me. But it just refuses to load my photo after it says it uploaded. Do I have to find and redownload the photo? It seems to load in my photo library just fine. I can’t help but think it’s an app problem. Kudos to the resource though, I see the impact that it’s usefulness has for people.

I can’t get in. Update: after logging on, you’re given the option of what to sync, when I deselected membership photos and temple photos it finally let me in. Every time I sign in and choose what data to download, it just goes to a white screen and ultimately asks me to sign in again. Hasn’t worked for over 2 months. When I can actually use the app it’s pretty good

Great if you can get into the app. If you need to look up someone’s phone number really quickly, you’re looking at a minimum 15 minute process of logging in, and re-downloading all the data, but possibly an hour, or maybe you just need to try on a different day. It lets you set your thumb print to access, instead of typing in your password, but that expires every couple weeks, making that feature essentially useless. If you can get in, everything is organized really intuitively, and lets you call or text members right from the app. Good luck.

One small bug. When I open the app, immediately a pop-up window says “Warning-You have automatic update enabled but background app refresh is disabled” with the option to “enable in settings” or “disable automatic settings.” When I go to settings background app refresh is set on but is greyed out so I can’t do anything with it. Turning either function on or off doesn’t do anything so this pop-up window appears every time I open the app. How do I make this stop?

Missed the mark. The new update isn’t great. 1. Photos missing from members (this helps me remember names) 2. My callings are missing in my profile 3. from another member “ In reviewing the new aesthetics/format, I find it easy in seeing what areas are available to open and, in other aspects it more difficult to perform our calling. Example, in taking class attendance, the “old” tools would allow me to bring up the specific Sunday School class I want in order to check mark attendance. Now I only get the generic title Sunday School and every member’s name listed. Extremely inefficient. Maybe they hid it and the ability to obtain what I need is elsewhere, which makes no logical sense. My feedback is impressed in some areas but not so much in others.” 4. The main screen is nice and easy to tap on which one you want. I hope this helps.

True churches don’t have broken apps. You know what your problem is? You only hire contract employees! So you end up losing talent. You only hire contract because you don’t want to pay for someone’s healthcare. Know where my faith shakes??? It’s how you run the church software and garments. You treat people like a sweat shop paying them minimal to do work. Garment quality has gone down. My mom worked there and you made a environment saturated with negativity. Then you only hire contractors, families suffer because you get rid of them when their time is up. Disgusting practices! You should all be ashamed proclaiming Jesus Christ and treating others like garbage!

Monthly sign in is the worst. I’m sure there’s a reason for it (I’ll reserve judgment on whether it’s a good one or not), but it’s seriously obnoxious, since if I’m opening the app, it’s because I want to look something up, but can’t until I jump through the required hoops. Please at least add an extension for 1Password so that when it forces me to sign in again for the 800th time I don’t have to leave LDS Tools, go into 1Password, and go back to LDS Tools. Small complaint? Maybe, but iOS has had the ability to use extensions since iOS 8, which was released in 2014.

Directory, not much more. It works as a directory just fine. But if you try and use other “tools” it has less than reliable results. I’ve reached out to the app support a number of times and just been told to restart the app. This has been through numerous updates, and the issue with the temples crashing whenever you try to look at a schedule or other info on a temple that is not your assigned one by the area. It happened when searching by name or nearby, and even happens on the assigned temple if you try and look more than a day in advance for a session schedule.

Glitchy to the point of being unusable. Used to work fine. Now it just takes me to select sync settings. Won't move past that screen until I hit sync, then tells me the download failed. Then goes back to the login screen, for the exact same maddeningly futile exercise again. The forums went back to 2019 and said the church was working hard to fix the issue. Also basically "You're dumb; delete the app and reinstall," which I, like everyone else, had already done three times before I started searching for a solution.

Frustratingly buggy. Suddenly this app is showing me a blank white screen no matter what section of the app I go to. Needed to use the directory to find someone’s house to take my kids to an activity and it completely failed me. Deleted and reinstalled it and it was exactly the same. Keeps nagging me to select automatic updates no matter whether I choose to allow them or don’t choose to allow them. Frustratingly wonky and buggy. Maybe the Church would be able to produce better quality products if they paid their employees better- just sayin’.

So buggy. The idea is great, and the available functions are very helpful. The problems are that it has trouble updating and even when you eventually succeed in updating it, it has unexplainable errors. For example in my ward there was a family that simply never showed up in my app until I fully deleted and reinstalled the app. Similarly my ministering assignment changes did not update until reinstalling the app. Both of these despite syncing within the app. Note to the church: hire developers that know what they’re doing and can properly debug.

Freezes/Glitches Frequently. The last few updates have caused this app to freeze and glitch frequently. It won’t display ANY ministering assignments for ANY of the sisters in the ward and won’t update new assignments. I also really don’t like that the household phone is the default for every member of the household, making it confusing to figure out which phone number is actually the right number. Have to uninstall and reinstall to make it work. But that’s only a short-term fix as the glitches start up again within a day or so.

Can’t get the app to update. I’ve tried everything under the moon to get it to update for months, especially recently since we just had our ward merge with part of a dissolved ward, but it won’t update. Being in a presidency, it would be helpful if it worked properly, but I can’t even take roll with it. I have to use my computer for everything. The app would be an amazing if it wasn’t so glitchy. Also, two options for the directory would be awesome. I loved the old version by family surname, though the entire ward list has its pros too.

Directory. The only problem I'm finding is that as I looked up myself in the directory my name does not appear under the C category as it should but rather I find it under my wife's maiden name under the S category. I'm not particularly concerned about it but I am concerned that if my name is mixed up how many other names are mixed up as well, it might make it difficult to use if the directory is showing people under names they no longer use and perhaps people don't know.

All of a sudden app changes to Thai. Yesterday as I was using this app it all of a sudden changed everything to Thai. I’m in the US and I don’t speak Thai nor did I change the language settings.(I don’t even know where you’d go to do that.) I checked my account online via my computer and everything was English there, so all was okay, but i had to uninstall the app on my phone and reinstall and now it’s back to English. But I’m hoping your developers fix this.

Touch ID is pointless. I access this app about once a week. Not very often. Every single time I open it, it asks for my password, if I want to enable touch ID and if I want to sync it. Such a pain. Why cant it be like every other touch ID app and recognize it every single time? Whats the point of touch ID if you have to verify your password regardless? Let’s be honest, how much personal information is on here? My banking app has more personal information available than this app and I have only signed in once. That was when I installed it and set up touch ID. Now, touch ID works every single time. This app should have the same functionality or its just a waste of time.

Not impressed, but typical. What a piece of garbage app. I think there are a lot of great features on here, but wow. For the amount of money that the church spends investing in the members, they could use some money on their apps. As per usual, the church is a couple years behind on technology (MLS being the best reference here). I have tried to change my photo on my household and individual 10+ times, and it reverts back to the same picture I put on there 4 years ago. Love the Church and all the good it is doing, but let’s allocate some of those funds to improving this app. Maybe a donations feature on here? Just some suggestions.

Back to paper. I understand that it is in Apple's best interest to do things that force people to buy new devices. I think it's a dishonest business practice, but I understand Apple is in the business of making money and crippling my device is one way they can force me to buy a new one. I don't understand the church playing along with that game, though. By making the church apps compatible with only the latest devices, I am forced to either shell out an irresponsible amount of money for the latest, greatest shiny thing, or go back to paper. For now I'm using paper manuals, texting numbers to other members of the presidency so they can enter my numbers in the quarterly report, and asking the clerk to print out paper versions of the lists and reports I need. I am grateful everyone is understanding and no one is asking things like, "So when are you going to upgrade so we don't have to do all this work for you?" I hate the position this has put me in.

Won’t Sync, Won’t Allow Sign-Out Sign-In. This was a fairly usable tool. However, for months I have tried to sync, and the service is unavailable. Once, I did get the app to say it was updating, even with the spinning data indicator, however, it reported updating for over 30 minutes. (And I couldn’t do anything else. It was as if the updating locked the app.) I have removed the app, and loaded the app again, but to no avail. I did like being able to view a map of my ward. And so with the changes in my ward, and the inability to update the info, this app has unusable or uninformative, boarding on useless.

Bug with iOS 14. This tool works well except with iOS 14 you are no longer able to enable the app in the Phone->Call Blocking & Identification. When you select it, there is a pause and then an error message “The data provided by Tools was invalid. You may try enabling the extension again, and if the problem persists contact the application developer.” I have not found a way to contact the application developers at the church so hoping this review piques someone’s interest. This is a feature I love.

Update trouble fixed. I use this app a lot! When the last update in July 2020 came out, I could no longer sync my device (iPhone). However, once I deleted the app and reloaded it, the new features for security sign in popped up and everything worked again. All my lists for my calling and everything was there. This app makes my life a WHOLE lot easier than going to the LCR on the Church website for my callings. If you’re having trouble syncing, try uninstalling the app.

How firm a foundation. This app is great when it is working. Sadly, it almost never works. Constant syncing issues make the information so unreliable it becomes unusable. Our ward doesn’t even show in the correct stake since a change a couple weeks ago because I haven’t been able to successfully sync the app in a month or more. I’m the Ward Clerk and would love for the tools to work properly. Adding features at the cost of usability is poor practice for any of us who design and build apps. Get your connection issues identified and perfected. How firm is this apps foundation?

The idea is great and execution is not. The idea of all of this information available to members of the church is great and the reports and other functionality continues to improve. I can see that a fully actualized version of this app could really be useful. However, the execution is terrible. It does not appropriately update, and often random information disappears. The only way to solve this is to delete and reinstall the application. I have to do this every few months. If more functions will require this app, this will be an unsustainable pattern.

Calendar. I like this app and use it often. I use my calendar on my phone for EVERYTHING! One thing I wish they would fix on this app is when I copy an event to my phone calendar from the lds tools calendar, and then I go back into my lds tools calendar, it takes me all the way back to “today’s” date. I wish it would go back to the date I was on. It is such a pain and takes forever to add church events from this calendar. PLEASE FIX THIS! Thanks!

Bugs around sign in and sync.. This app is great and super useful, except that it has had bugs for the last few years. Frequently I will open the app, sometimes it’ll ask me to sign in, which never work. Then when I sign out all the way, and try to log in again, it may or may not work, but then may not sync. I’ve hoped that new updates would address these issues. Today I couldn’t sign in at all, so I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, and could sign in no problem. This has happened more than once and is a bit frustrating.

Inability to update household photo. I’m able to update family members’ individual photos but when it comes to updating the household photo neither I nor my husband are able. There’s an Edit button for the photo but doesn’t seem to be activated. I can press on it all the live long day and nothing happens. I hate to be complainy, but it doesn’t seem as though the Church wants to put needed resources on this very important tool for members. This is just one of many problems we’re always encountering with this app.

MUST we sync EVERY TIME???. Every single time I open the app, I have to deal with a pop-up, saying: You must update/sync info by (date, some weeks from now).. Options: "Sync now," or "Sign out." WHY don't we get an option of, "Later," ??? In that moment, I'm on a course to complete a task. Please just allow me to find the info, contact the person, and move on.. PLEASE just set up a "Later" button, or "Remind me next time"? Instead of boxing me into a corner, with only two options.. BOTH of which mean, "You'll have to wait, before you can get your desired information." Grrr!

A useful tool when it works!. I want desperately for this app to work, but have resolved myself to the fact that it won’t function as intended. I have found using the LCR on the web more accurate. Although the app is more convenient, it’s not trustworthy. I can’t get the information to sync. It continues to tell me there is an error. Surely there is someone at the church who can fix this app and make it useable by members. When this tool works it’s great, but when it won’t sync forget it. It stays stuck and no matter what I do it stays stuck. Please fix this problem. This tool is invaluable for multiple reasons. Very frustrating when it gets stuck trying to sync.

Super buggy. It’s too bad. This app is awesome when it works, but it’s terrible way too often because of the many bugs. It didn’t bother me as much before, but now that I have a leadership calling, it’s important to me to be able to access information that’s up to date, as well as for others to be able to access my updated information. This app just needs a bigger team or a better maintenance schedule, because these issues have plagued the app since the beginning.

The dev team has a lot of repenting to do. Why do calling lists repeat until they fill the entire text block? Why is my leadership account hiding my auxiliary calling lists from me as “private, leadership only” Why does the app crash at least once routinely the first time I try to look at the directory? Why does the directory not work at all on my iPhone 6s? Why does the directory stall for several seconds every time I try to scroll through it? Why is a tool so integral to church service so poorly quality tested, designed and maintained? Why does an app owned by a multi billion dollar entity offer the WORST user experience of its class? I’ll tell you why. Because the church hires people based on temple worthiness rather than competence, retains employees for spiritual nepotism rather than merit, and is too much of a cheapskate to invest in real talent that has integrity and work ethic to produce the world-class app the membership needs to perform its basic duties.

Still not working…. I have not been able to use this app for at least the last 6 weeks. As Sunday school president in my ward, I used to use this app several times during the week. Since the last few updates it has refused to even let me see a ward roster. PLEASE FIX IT. If you can’t fix it, please provide a way for users to down-grade to a previous version that WAS working. I am running iOS 16.3.1 and have force quit the app; signed out; reset my password; deleted and reinstalled the app; essentially, I have done everything that developers have suggested I do. Very frustrating!!

New format for households in directory is poor. Individual households used to be on one line in the directory (last name then the first names of husband and wife on one line). Now there is a separate line for the husband and wife. This requires many extra clicks to see children in a household and can also be confusing when there are families with the same last name. We have several families with the same last name in our ward and the husband and wife are not next to each other in the directory. It would be much better if spouses were on the same line again. Please make the option to display each household as one line again, instead of 2 lines when there is a married couple. Also, I can’t download all members of our ward. I am getting roughly half. My wife’s phone downloads them all. These download bugs really need to be tested and fixed before release. Thank you!

Sad but I do like it. As a member of the church, I do find this valuable because it helps members find addresses. My only complaint is I can’t take attendance when I have been called as Assistant Secretary (Primary, Relief Society, EQ, YW, YM, Etc…) (primary for me so far). There has been many a time when the actual secretary wasn’t at church and I couldn’t take attendance right on my phone because I don’t have access which is Not right. All secretaries should have access to Leader and Clerk records to help in their callings.

App not working. This app was working fine all long until a couple months ago. It asked to be sign in then it tells me that it may take a few minutes to download. The download is complete but it just sit there and does not do anything else. I'm clicking on any button I can find and it took me to the App Store. It gives me the Open feature but when I click on it, it just takes me back to the login page with the download message still on. The only access I have is to write this review. This is a great app when it works and I depend on it heavily for my church calling. Please, fix this or if anyone knows of what I'm doing wrong, let me know. Thank you.
