Crashes and doesn't save progress.. Current version of the game is unplayable. It's had these problems before but not as frequently. When it works, it's great, but I can't recommend this at all until some critical fixes are made.

This One Has It All. Great depth in this game. Clean, easy to use interface, challenging puzzles, tons of options for assistance. This one's gonna be hard to beat.

Update makes the game even harder. Since the update the game is now even harder. Even the easy-level puzzles are now almost unsolvable for newer players. It was already very difficult but now it's just frustrating. While the layouts and help functions are very nice (this app is the closest to Dell Cross Sums puzzles that I've found in the app store) it has still become very annoying. Best Kakuro app but there aren't many out there. Easing-up the difficulty levels would be a big help!

Enjoyable kakuro. Of the kakuro apps I have played, this is the only one still one on my iPad. Pros: Addictive! The puzzles are well-generated and the solving tools are very useful. Cons: A full page ad shows up at the beginning of each game, but when you know where the close button is then who cares? It costs me perhaps half a second. Room for improvement: No substantial updates in a long time, and it runs as an iPhone app on my iPad. I would add persistence to the combinations helper, and auto-update the pencil marks. Storing stats in the cloud to combine scores from multiple devices would be nice, too. Summary: The 'pros' have it. The cons are completely irrelevant, and the only reason I'm taking off a point is -- um -- no good reason. I'll leave it 5 stars.

Yis. Quite advanced. You really need to think for this particular app. If you'd rather an easier-on-the-brain game this is not for you.

Mr.. Was very fun to start with, but now crashes when I try to load it. What's up with that?

Easy to pick up and play. I am a Kakuro neophyte, and did not know how easy or hard it would be to pick up. I own one other kakuro App, but this is the only one that allowed to get comfortable with the dynamics of kakuro. In my opinion, this is kakuro done right. The graphics are clear and legible, it is easy to add little numbers jotted down in the margins while solving, and easy to delete them once not needed. The game has an easy to find help button, that gets you to help on everything from what kakuro is to strategies. This one's a keeper (and this is coming from somebody who has a couple of other sudoku and kakuro apps and has deleted them all.

Addicting. The user face could be better and their should be a tutorial at the beginning for the beginners. Worth the price if you know how to play.

Great fun!. Love this game. Only complaints are: 1) I sometimes accidentally tap the row/column numbers rather than the game board which disqualifies that game from eating me points. Maybe there could be a way to disable all hints? 2) when looking at the reference guide for combinations it's sometimes frustrating to use the upper slider because it is super sensitive. Maybe include a type-in option?

Good. Good game

Worst update. Actually hate them for updating this... was in my opinion one of the best kakuro games before via layout and design. Now the buttons are harder to hit, can’t visually see which are hit or not unless you strain your eyes, the timer isn’t working properly now either. So trying to improve to beat my time on master difficulty is basically null and void until they fix it. Also now the only way to not have the apparently 6 second win time on the difficulty is to reset my statistics beating the whole point of trying to improve my record...

BAD Logic!. The previous two reviewers have it just right, thank you to both of them! This is a subtle point, so stick with me a moment, its important to enjoyment. If I had only tried this one Kakuro app, I'd concluded that I do not like the game itself, which I know from Games Magazine as cross-sums. I loved the game in Games. The trouble is the puzzle constructed by this app are ambiguous. I suppose they have a unique solution, but somehow the game play requires too much investigation of alternative moves. When I first read this, I thought that the players were just not thinking ahead. Well, maybe, but I join them in saying this is not fun. I had lots of fun before on paper, in Games, and they publish challenging stuff... I realize now I love the game: I bought Kakuro Mania. Fewer features by far, but it has all I need, all on a single screen, very nice interface, and the puzzle play is entirely by logic. It's now fun again, even at the hard levels. If the developer here figures out how to construct true logic puzzles, then he already has some dynamite features, his calculator is very fine. But I'm discarding his app, I don't need frustration, I do love brain play. I'm not talking here about difficulty level, as I said this is a subtle point, it's about ambiguity and frustration. I'm happy now, just wanted to pass my discovery along to you.

Good. I like thinking games, and this is the best one on the market. It's fun and addicting. If u want something fun to pass time, or to just get u thinking. This is an awsome app!

Looks good but crashes and slow.. The app looks good and overall, it's a good concept for the money, but the UI is slow to respond and after a game or two, the app starts to crash. eventually you cannot recover and end up having to reload it (losing all of your progress). I have gotten so frustrated with it that I'm beginning to look at other apps. Hopefully, the developers will improve in later versions. Too bad you can't get refunds.

Good game. I'm still a beginner at Kakuro but interface is very intuitive and the game helps teach you the mechanics of the game. If you like numbers you should check this out.

Nice but missing something. The buttons I'll have to say are to small kindof like typing in portrait mode. It would be nice if we could zoom up onto the squares and pan around to make pressing buttons easier. But I do love the time line that recreates all of your past moves really a good game

Mastersoft Kakuro. This is not the game for you if you're a Kakuro beginner like me. I'll keep working with it knowing I will approve. If I known how frustrating it was before I paid money for it I would be rethinking it! Barbcarreras

Was pleased, now I’m a hostage to a crap update. I used to use this app pretty often, and I was really good at it. I purchased it when it was new in 2009. The latest update added ads, the “option” to update to pro; which I would assume is ad-free, but does nothing. So instead I’m forced to watch ads that i can’t click out of and mess with my timing on the app. Then there’s the lack of responsiveness on the app. It went from a fully functioning touch screen to smaller buttons and slow responses. For instance, when clicking a number triangle you see the options but you can’t click the done button because they decreased the size of clickable area and get stuck clicking it a few times until released. I used to enjoy this app but I won’t use it again until they fix this terrible update

Fully featured. This is a nice implementation of Kakuro with lots of extras to help when stuck or wanting to reverse mistaken moves. It is a little steep at $4.99, but if you love more challenging number games you cannot go too wrong here.

Yes. One of the best apps out there for this game, thank you.

Solid Gameplay, good presentation. I'm new to Kakuro. But Mastersofts implementation let me taste blood. It has a detailed help-screen, which helped me solving my verry first Kakuro. The big features of this implementation: * The build in Combination Calculator provides all possible combinations for a certain sum in a given number of cells. This is a verry usefull tool! Just click the sum and it will show all possible numbers which are valid for the row/column in question! * The "Ball of String" provides an unlimited (?) undo; the flags provide fixed settings in time of your play. The negs: The Menu/Tools requires too many clicks. Overal this one is a keeper on my iPod Touch.

Kakuro. I live the challenge of Kakuro. The multiple choice of levels is good as it gives me choice of how long I want to work the solution. Lot's of options.

Ruined by updates. The previous update to this game has turned what was the best kakuro app for almost a decade into a borderline unplayable mess. And the latest update takes away features while changing nothing else. First, the new color scheme and “flat” look is hideously ugly. It’s also less usable—a touch interface with tons of fiddly little buttons crammed onto the screen really needs visible borders. (Imagine the iPhone keyboard without the white squares around the keys.) Second, there’s now a banner ad on the bottom, right where you want to click to unselect the current selection. For a game that I paid for (even if the paid version was merged with the free version a few years ago), this is especially unacceptable. Third, it now randomly pops up intrusive ads. Worst of all, it keeps trying to get me to pay for a “Pro” upgrade. (I have no idea what’s included in “Pro”, but whatever it is, I haven’t needed it for the past decade.) It sometimes even spontaneously triggers a payment confirmation that I have to cancel. Presumably the interface tricked me into clicking a “Upgrade” button that appears under my finger when I’m trying to click something else, or something like that. But however they’re doing it, it’s not just seriously unethical, and annoying, but also a serious violation of Apple’s rules. So, what improvements do we get to compensate for all these downgrades? Not a single one of the features people had requested over the past decade (like an easier way to mark the board and rewind to an earlier mark) has been added. They did finally fix the bug where, on any screen bigger than an iPhone 4, there’s a dead space on the top and bottom that can crash the game if you accidentally click it. But because they filled that dead space with a banner ad that pops open an ad page in Safari if you accidentally click it, this isn’t really an improvement. I wish I could go back to the previous version. A new version came out at some point, and I upgraded hoping it would solve some of the problems. But I’ll never find out, because it disabled enough features that it’s not worth even trying. You can’t even start a game above medium difficulty anymore. So now, it’s gone from a game I pick up every once in a while when I’m not too annoyed to deal with the frustrations to one that I will never even think about playing. Nice job ruining it for good.

it worked great until . . .. it worked great until this most recent update. Then it crashed often, frequently just at the last move. Then when the app was restarted, it lost most of the progress i'd made. now it just crashes right after the first animation screen. does anyone know how i can revert to the older version.

Too many crashes. I love this game but this app has tons of crashes. Right now I can't even get back into the game after solving a puzzle. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

WAS good, now lousy with ads. I'm a long time user, and really appreciate what you did with this app. But I paid for it, and your "now totally free" update gives me the unpaid treatment. I now won't use it on general principles. I also will be wary of any app produced by your studio. Thanks for treating your real customers with no respect - your actions will be remembered.

Zero Stars. Another app gone bad. Great you decided to make this app free but then you go and add ADS! What about those of us that paid for this?? That's like a great big f you to your customers. Icon is not retina and neither are the buttons. Looks like trash. Stay clear of this garbage and this greedy developer. IT'S APPS LIKE THIS THAT MAKE ME HESITANT ON BUYING ANY APP FROM THE APP STORE.

Terrible presentation, decent game. Kakuro itself is a fun game, and the implementation here would be fine, if less than great, if not for a truly awful navigation systems (setting preferences is in exercise in frustration) & occasional crashes. If you want to play kakuro, there are certainly better apps available.

Do Not Buy. Don't waste your time and money on this app. It's not optimized for retina display so therefore it's extremely blurry. It's 2012 FFS, app developers need to optimize their apps for retina display. The only way they're going to stop being lazy and do this is if people STOP BUYING apps that aren't optimized.

Interface poor. Terrible interface. I still get confused and frequently miss hit something. Plus it often crashes... Especially just when you make the final move. Worth the buck but no more.

Only 8x8 available in master level. Can't figure out why the only board size in master level is 8x8. I've beat over 100 games in very hard and 48 in master. Maybe I need to hit 200 in each before they will unlock. Also my rating hasn't moved from '6' in almost a year. Yet I've beat about 125 games at least in the past year, avg of 16,000 per game.

?. Doesn't work anymore.

Great Game!. I love playing this game

Best layout and dark mode!. This is by far the best version and I have tried many! The layout and submenus are so user friendly. And for those of us who like playing at night before sleep it has the BEST dark mode, no more bright blinding background, that keeps you up! But a beautiful black background and dimmer lettering mode! To give a full review, there is one submenu where the “sliders” at the bottom are still messed up, but now that I know they actually DO read the reviews I am confident they will look into that too! Update: The developers got back to me and gave me back my paid version! Old review:Used to be the best, USED TO Now, even though I bought it way back when, it wants me to pay to upgrade so I can play the more difficult levels. I already paid. I will not pay again! I would rather find another to pay for than put up with that kind of deceit.

Not as good as the older version. The # buttons are too small (especially the 1 & 9), so you easily hit the wrong # out miss the #’s which takes you to different field. I wish I never upgraded this or paid for the upgrade

Excellent app-great challenge but helpful. Excellent app-great challenge but helpful. Has very helpful tools and combo help and tips on what combination of numbers work. Can challenge you from "simple" to "advanced" level and from 3 x3 up thru 7x7 and more. Addicting game. Needs a "quit" button.

More hints. I wish there was an option for beginners where a handful of numbers were already filled in. My 7-year old rec'd a kakuro book which she's loving, and the easier puzzles have some numbers already filled in so that she knows where to start. This would be a great option for beginners (actually for all of the levels - just as an option).

Works fine. Works fine for me on iPad mini 2, iOS 8.1.

Very cool app. In my opinion it was was a very cool app, it offered hours of entertainment for my cousin and now he won't give me back my itouch!

Frustrated. Every other button I pushed took me to an ad. Not a bad layout. Not intuitive.

A Great Challenge. I love this game, it's very difficult and can take some time to solve but the puzzles are very rewarding. It's like Sudoku in that you can't repeat numbers vertically or horizontally but in this case the goal is to make the numbers add up to the sums listed on the edges using the numbers 1-9. The game offers a number of help mechanics to assist, the most useful being a grid which you can pop up that shows all possible number combinations for a particular sum. It offers a number of varying difficulties from the somewhat easy to the oh my goodness. It even allows you to create your own. It also offers a number of other color-coding and variable undo features which help manage these complicated puzzles. As I said, it can be very challenging but for me it challenges without frustrating. This along with Kenken and Str8ts have become my new Sudoku replacements. I highly recommend this game to number puzzle fans, it's a great concept for a game and this particular implementation is very polished and well done. Highly Recommended.

Good gameplay and UI but...... The boards are limited in size. They are smaller than puzzle book kakuros which is where I started. The tools are great and gameplay, scorekeeping, and the options are really good. Awesome game for beginner or intermediate kakuro players but perhaps a bit small for more experienced players. Still a good buy.

Doesn't work anymore. Since 2 updates ago, this app doesn't work. I paid for something that doesn't work and that it has advertising. Awful.

Lots of Crashes. Slow.. As many of the other reviews have said, this app crashes a lot. It started when iOS4 came out, and the release that supposedly "fixed" the app for iOS4 crashed a lot and the UI is really slow to respond. I haven't yet tried other Kakuro apps to recommend a better choice, but I'm downloading a couple now. If you can deal with the slow UI (it's sometimes a whole second between when you touch the screen and the corresponding action), there *is* a way to get around the crashes: Basically the game crashes at the end of any game if the app has gone into background mode any time during the game. So, if you have to background the game, before going back to the app double-click the home button to get at the task manager, then hold on the kakuro app until the minus sign appears, and click it to delete the running instance. The next time you open it, you will have lost your history, but it will also not crash if you get the end of the game. I'm rating this low for app brokenness and lack of responsiveness by the developer. If they cared, this game would be fixed by now. But I still play it, so I can't in good conscience give it only one star.

Won’t work on my iPhone. It used to work and now it won’t load so I can’t play anymore.

Kakuro Classic. Karuko arrives to the iPhone with a clean easy to use user interface. Packed with features ranging from possible combinations to unlimited undos or skins. Generates puzzles instantaneously with six level of difficulty and five different sizes. A Kakuro's fan dream. Plus the developer is open to your suggestions, give it a try and contact them.

Good game but unstable. I enjoy cross sums and thought this app looked promising for the price. It's nice when it works, but seems unstable with random crashes (iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1) which occasionally cause loss of work.

excellent app!. good value for the $$. it teaches you how to play the game and sharpens your adding skills. if you are having troubles, it offers you a variety of options to help you get hints. it's also a good educational game to teach kids how to add or to practice their adding skills. great job!

Waste of a download. Terrible app. I downloaded, and could not even see what I was doing. Just saw numbers on a black screen and big ads at the bottom. Not user friendly at all.

Difficult but not challenging (paradoxical but true). After using the Mensa book of Kakuro for many months, I thought this version would be a good challenge. What's interesting is that it is very difficult, but not in a logical way. There are very few clues within the sums themselves, which means you have to "guess" and see where it leads. Consequently, I stopped using it, because like some ubiquitous versions of Sudoku, I'd rather use logical reasoning than take guesses.

Beautifully implemented. This has the hallmaraks of a Big Computer game. It doesn't have the feel of compromise with the small screen, but is easy to manage and pleasant to play. Not to say it is EASY to play - that's different. It can be quite a challenge to play, but then that is why I bought the game in the first place! I am hoping to hear some news that Mastersoft Sudoku will be available on the iPod soon. I will be one of the first customers for that one too.

poor choice. i have over 800 master puzzles solved and you lot cut me down to medium 8 - pathetic

Bug found when using iOS 8 on iPhone 6. I've been playing this game for many years and have loved it. It's the best kakuru app I've found. It has worked perfectly on every iPhone I've had and every software update. However since getting the new iPhone 6 with iOS 8, it's now unplayable. The app opens fine but when I click to start a new game it won't do it. Please update or provide a fix for loyal players. Thanks:)

Not as good as his WM version. I played and played mastersofts WM version of Kakuro. So when I saw it on iTunes I was in without hesitation and I think I got burnt. Firstly, in the possible numbers the WM version would remember previous filters whilst you toggled back and forth between the grid and the list - this version does not. Secondly, again in WM, if you checked for wrong numbers and had none you were not penalised in your score - this version wipes out your score. Sorry, but until these are fixed I will not even be trying his Suduko implementation.

Not good. To many bugs, had to reload four deleting scores.

Levels. I have been playing this for some time choosing the hard or very hard levels. For some reason, the highest level I can now play is medium. How do you get to play the higher levels

wow. hard game, but sure is fun once u get the hang of it. becomes very addicting after a while, 4 stars and i recomend it to everyone.

Kakura. Love this game, keeps you thinking.

Mr. Why have I started getting extremely annoying ads pop up. Excellent until this started happening!

Good kakuro app. Contains quite a few nice options but would require some optimization: some performance issues on 3G, imprecise slides for the calculator, would be great if notes would disappear when adding a new number, etc.

Don't update..... Great game until I updated it. Now it crashes every time I try and create a new puzzle, please fix soon.....

Things no longer work properly.. I regularly get in game errors which immediately shut down game the game. When game is restarted numbers from previous games have been inserted into the puzzle and delete functions no longer work. You then have to start a new puzzle or individually delete numbers 1 by 1.

I love Kakuro, and now I love it more. I've preferred Kakuro over Sudoku for a long time, but have always only ever done them on paper. This app offers so many cool features that enhance the playing experience. I especially like flagging my progress point in the game, and being able to retrace my steps back to a particular point.

Well done but disappointing. Well I played with it for a while and it's very enjoyable but now when I try to open it, it crashes instantly... I hope this gets fixed soon otherwise it's money down the drain...

Do not upgrade to V3!. After happily playing V2 for years, I upgraded to V3 which was supposed to include unspecified improvements. Big mistake. V3 is now full of ads. To get rid of ads, you must upgrade to PRO version. I figured I can pay $3.99 for an app that I use almost daily and get rid of the bloody ads. So, I upgraded to V3 PRO. Another big mistake! I lost all the progress stats I had accrued over the years playing the regular version! Goodbye Level 4th Nanadan! Pro app even tells me that I cannot even select to play an Easy Kakuro because I have not reached that level yet! Very displeased. Will never download another Mastersoft app ever.

Kakuro v2. Would be good if it didn't crash so often. I was hoping the authors would fix this as this has been happening for over a year now. Seems they don't realty care Very disappointing as it's a great game.

Kakuro. Do not waste your money on this game. I have not even been able to play it once. I’ve tried several times to delete and download the game and nothing changes. I am very disappointed that I wasted my money and time on this.

Lots of crashes. Update - finally working in iOS8, which is great, but back to being unstable. Crashes constantly. A great game if the developers would just keep it working and bug free. ------- My earlier review is below, but this has now stopped working in iOS8. None of the buttons in the Tools menu, including "Start a new game" is responsive. ------- I had regular crashes with earlier versions, as well as the occasional algorithm problem causing unsolvable puzzles (yes, I'm sure). Latter problem was solved in the previous release, and the former in v2.6. Stable & playable, finally. Great app.

Stopped working. I updated yesterday to the new system but now it doesn't work. Too bad, it's my fave game app.

Good application. It is a good game. It was the first time I have played this one as I am used to Sodoku. It take a little use to it buy it's fun.

Best Kakuro available!. Out of all the Kakuro on the App Store, this one is the best. Tons of great features. A must get for any puzzle fan.

Crash bigtime!. I bought the game and played it a bit and enjoyed it. Now when I click on the game it brings it up for 2 seconds and kicks me out. I can't play at all. I'm very disappointed with it.

No longer works. No longer works in in iOS7 since the last update. Used to be great, now it's just wasting space. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Love it!. Fun game to play when you're bored

Great game but crashes constantly. 5 stars for game play, layout etc. Negative 1 star for constant crashing. Usually crashes every 4-5 plays, often right at the last move. Eventually won't even start, so I have to delete and re-download. I have been up in the millions in total points at least 10 times only to have to restart at zero. Latest version 2.50 no different.

This app does not work. It crashes shortly after loading the splash screen. Bug reports to the app maker go unanswered. 2 updates to the app have not solved the issue. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. This app is a lemon.

Addicting. Great for any kakuro fan!

Great Kakuro game. I love this version of Kakuro. Unfortunately, after upgrading to iOS8 last night, it is unusable. Had some minor problems with iOS7, but now the tools menu doesn't work at all, which is where you select a new game. I hope they put an update out to support iOS8. If you haven't upgraded to iOS8, I highly recommend this app! I'm not deleting so that it will update if an update is released.

How do you play this. How do you play so confused

great. ready like this game

Awesome. This game is awesome. Great price, great gameplay.

Kakuro. Just exits when I try to open a puzzle. Please fix!!

Why can't they fix the crashing?. Plays great for a while. If you leave the game, don't expect it to work upon your return. Now it crashes as it loads the app :(

Great game. Great for any kakuro fan!

Abandoned App. Doesn't work. Game screen loads up. You put numbers in. No response, no confirmation of action. Broken. Needs update.

Boo. Crashes upon opening

nice. Good game

Crashes too much. Would be a great game but crashing incessantly is very annoying!

Kakuro. Crashes too often. Save your money.

Cool. This will keep you busy for awhile!

Great game. This is great game! I am going to recommend it to my friends.

For the price. Not bad, not great. Worth a buck to tease your brain though.

To Mastersoft. I found a flaw. I solved a puzzle but your software didn't acknowledge it. It went someting like: _____9\ 27\10\ _\20 | 8 | 9 | 3 | _\10 | 1 | 7 | 2 |14\ ____\9_| 2 | 1 | 6 | ____\21| 9 | 4 | 8 |

Not working after update!. I know this is an old game but I still enjoy playing it. Since I updated to iOS 8, the game won't work at all. Any chance for a fix? 😢

Horrible. Was literally the most addicting app on my phone and well worth the money I spent and then they went and added the most annoying advertisements ive ever seen. ON A PAID APP! I will move on and get another kakuro app. Skip this one, it's not worth your time.

Mental Agility Required. I never understood the Cross Sum genre of games until Kakuro. Good stuff!

Great app. Awesome update! No more crashes and very good tools for the game.

Great App. Good standards on games. Liked it very much on quality!

Crashy McCrashypants!!!. I 'd this game till last week. Now it crashes as soon as it opens!!! So frusterating! 

Nice App. This is a nice implementation of Kakuro with a lot of features en extras. The only problem for me are these very small Buttons :)

Kakuro. Great game. But could use some upgrades so that I don't get kicked out all the time.

Not that great. I didn't think it was too bad until I completed half of the page and when I returned it was gone! I do like that it has the list of constant sets.

Love it. I love playing it because it's simple but so addicting!!!

Fun game. Worth the money

Great game. Grate game. It had a few bugs, but they seemed to have fixed them. PLEASE MAKE AN iPAD VERSION!

Horribly buggy!. Good interface, but the buggiest app I've ever seen! It crashes more than all my other apps put together. Can't understand how a company would put out something so sloppy.
