Mona Classic Comments & Reviews 2026

Left Ivory for Mona. Rock solid timeline. It’s extensibility is amazing. It’s automation is the best. No bugs detected. Also a one time purchase. I’ll occasionally tip if it gets better. Sad I never tried the twitter client. I was too into tweetbot.

Absolutely the best. I’ve tried a lot of the Mastodon iOS apps but this one is my favorite. Not only is it very smooth and fast, it looks great too, with a user interface that matches the look and feel of the operating system. The closest comparison to Mona is perhaps Ice Cubes, but that app has a lot of bloat to the UI and feels a bit slower. Also, Mona allows more customization than any of the apps I tried. Best thing? No stupid monetization model. I gladly paid for the Pro Max version of this app to get it on all my Apple devices. And since it’s a one time fee, I can enjoy it as long as I want and not have to worry about paying monthly like some other apps. Big thumbs up from me.

Abandoned Bait & Switch. There was no need for a new version and even less need to charge lifetime users again.

Nice. No tracking. No subscription. Works well. Reasonably priced. Would be great to be able to turn off swipe actions, my shaky hands keep ending up back on the menu. The federated feed jumps when it refreshes.

Bait & Switch. I would have rated this app pretty highly, but the developer has shunted all the lifetime paying users into “Mona Classic” so they can get new paying users for updates to a new app, Mona 7. Mona 7 is literally the same app with continuing updates. This is a lousy bait and switch tactic.

$20 is way too steep for an open source platform. You can't do anything in this app without paying the $20 the developers want. Considering that Mastodon is run by volunteers who rely on donations, the developers charging more than a few dollars to be able to do anything with this app seems ludicrous.

Best of the bunch. I've tried several Mastodon clients, and this is by far the best. Not only is it feature rich, but each version, iPad, iPhone, Mac, takes full advantage of the the device you're using. Thank you to the developer for a fantastic Mastodon experience!

There is much to like. This app checks off so many boxes for a Mastodon Power User.

Bait and switch. Developer decided to retire this app after selling a lifetime subscription offering. Very upset.

Best Mastodon Client. Period.. One time price for all devices. Powerful enough for professional and normal users. I mean POWERFUL.

Paywalling basic features is criminal. Imagine having to pay to favourite and repost other posts… Worthless app.

THE BEST for Mastodon. I’ve tried every major Mastodon app out there, having beta tested for most of them, including Mona. Mona offers, by far, the best Mastodon experience. It had virtually every feature I can think of needing and an exceptional ability to customize your app. Even better, those customizations and themes carry across devices without issue. I’ve loved Mastodon and out of the 10 or so Mastodon apps I’ve used, Mona is my favorite by quite a lot. It’s the only mastodon app I have on my iPhone, Mac, and iPad. Very much worth the price!

Awesome app, one request…. Can you please add the ability to mute individual mastodon posts? I remember it being a feature in Spring.

Best Subscription-less Client for Mastodon. Incredibly flexible. Very Mac-like interface design. Superbly customizable Mastodon client. Publishes instantaneously. Lyrical sound effects. What more could you want?

Supports pleroma. Its a one time fee for multiple account login, it has a nice ui, better than most and supports pleroma. Might buy It.

promising at first, what a waste. had the potential to be the best mastodon/fedi client available. but the developer stopped fixing bugs not long after release and then pivoted to a different app so everyone that paid for this one is sunk. meh

The best social media experience I’ve had in years!. The app is beautiful and easy to use. Everything is very smooth and snappy. Loads quick! They’ve solved problems I didn’t even know needed solving, and the app is very customizable! They’ve thought of everything! Worth the money! 💛

Hangs on connecting to server. I wasn't able to get to login even. Once I select the server it brings a browser in focus but doesn't open the login page 🤷‍♂️

I love this app. It looks very beautiful!omg I love rooster icon!!!!

Best Matodon App. I’ve tried most of the other Mastodon apps and Mona is, in my opinion, the best one. The layout is fluid and it has reading and editing features that set it apart from other apps, as well as the ability to customize the interface to your liking. Well worth the cost!

Great app just got even greater. The latest update adds a setting to reverse the directions of feeds. This was the only complaint I had about the app and now it's perfect!

Free version not useful. Can't use basic mastodon functionality. This app store listing is like a demo of the actual product... without basic functionality.

Find me a better app for Mastadon! This one is customizable, accessible, fast and easy-to-use!. In terms of customizability, accessibility and user-friendliness, Mona is just the app! works wonderfully for users who need a versatile, accessible and easy-to-use interface to Mastodon!

Great App - Poor Paywall Choices. I heard of this app after searching around online for the best iOS Mastodon app in 2024, and this one was getting high praise but with the disclaimer that "some features were behind a Paywall". Which is fine! Some of the more advanced customization features sure enough are pro-only. Except that the most basic Mastodon features possible (boosting, liking, and saving toots) are also "pro-only"? Which is an absolutely wild decision on the part of the developer and makes this app literally unusable. At that point just make the app a $12 purchase from the store and be done with it.

Incredible But…. I love that you can either pay for one app, (iPhone, iPad, or Mac), or pay one price and have an app for iPhone, iPad, AND Mac. The customization seems to be immense. The only problem is that you can’t try any of it until you either sign up for a 14 day trial of the Pro Max version (includes iPhone, iPad, and Mac), or actually pay for an individual version (iPhone, iPad, or Mac). You can’t even favorite or boost a post. You can comment, but to decide whether to pay that price, there needs to be a more expansive demo mode. I don’t like having to sign up for a 14 day trial period for all three devices, If I only want one for my phone. In order to try all of the features on different device types, there is the potential to forget to cancel the trial, and get charged.

Such a superior app in almost every way. This app is so polished and works near flawlessly. The only thing I struggle with is when post have a lot of comments. Mona only shows the first comment for replies, and for the rest you have to tap through. It’s really painful when there are lots of comment branches. I hope they consider threaded comments that are all shown hierarchically all on the same page. Basically like Reddit and similar comments are organised. Wolly does an excellent job in this respect (although is less polished in most others).

Okay but 30 bucks???. Too rivh for my blood. I appreciate you're not collecting any user data at least (right?).

Great app, one problem. Absolutely love the app, it's a great way to browse Mastodon and pairs perfectly with the iPhone app. I plan to buy the Pro version once my trial runs out in a few days. The only issue is that notificatons do not seem to show up on my Mac, and only on my phone. That's not a huge issue but I would like to see it fixed. And yes I do have notifications turned on.

App is fine, limiting paywall. You can browse but no favoriting and stuff unless you pay :(

OK, Some Bugs and Inconsistencies. Overall it’s just OK. Not worth the asking price. There’s a longstanding bug that completely locks the UI up after viewing a full screen photo. This is random and doesn’t happen all the time but when it happens, it requires a relaunch, or backgrounding. Also the replies to some posts just don’t load, even if I choose to “Load from Remote Server.” The count is correct but the replies don’t load. Toot! works, so it should work here, also. The app doesn’t use some of the server-provided/enabled features. For example, the private notes and mute/block lists are app-only, while the server has support. This means that if I add some note to an account, I can only see it in this app. Or if I mute someone, they’re only muted here. And of course it’s now abandonware, as the developer has a new version that has switched to being an extractive, ie rental/subscription, service. So there’s no guarantee or promise that any of these issues will be addressed. Who’s to say that the developer won’t pull the same thing again with the new version?

but.... everything perfect but the blocking feature is horrible, a nightmare, i expect when blocking not only for something to disappear, and dont come back but also simultaneously erase all the post from the blocked source neither of this simple thing is done by the app

Best Mac and iOS Mastodon Client. Best Mac and iOS Mastodon Client. I prefer it to Ivory and IceCubes.

Best Fediverse Client. Mona is absolutely the best client for the Fediverse. It’s fast, it’s customizable, and it’s rock solid. I have used all the other apps and none of them can do what Mona can. The one-time purchase is also nice knowing you don’t have to sub to it. The dev is constantly improving the app. Buy it today and you won’t be sorry.

Best app for accessibility, period. It’s hard for me to say if I prefer Ivory, or Mona. But it’s unquestionable that at the time of writing Mona is easily the most customizable, and best app for those with accessibility needs. It’s a great app for general use too! Plus unlike Ivory there’s no subscription here. Just a one time payment to unlock all functionality. I highly recommend this app

This app is so close to perfect except it does filter replies.. I make sure that the filter for my home page has replies unchecked because they're usually just a random reply with no context I don't want on my feed. Unfortunately I'm still getting replies in my feed. This issue has been around for multiple updates and it's making the app unusable. IDK how anyone on the fediverse deals with so many replies in their feed. If this gets fixed then I can update this review to also include all the good things I love about this app.

I was going to purchase but…. So after the trial I was like this is really cool. I think I’ll support it. But after the trial I wasn’t able to favorite or reblog and i was like, those are standard features. That shouldn’t be paywalled. So i decided not to contribute and delete the app

Mostly good. If you’re on multiple Mastodon instances, this is the app for you. It’s reminiscent of the old Tweetdeck, if you remember that. But, it has a tendency to lockup from time to time. While it has improved in this area over time, it still happens.

Great app, but need some slight work with voiceover.. I had to call Apple accessibility so that I could get a little assistance visual wise with this app. When you find a persons profile, their picture, along with their followers, who they follow, and the follow button are all in one box. Voiceover is not able to read the follow button. You have to swipe left to the more button, then swipe right to the send a request button to the follower you want to follow. When you turn, voiceover off, the button shows up as blue. When you turn voiceover on the button shows up as gray. Voiceover is not reading this. Other than that small complaint, this app is very good. I recommend it to anyone who wants to use this app.

Brilliant.. After I discovered dividers, and delved in to the numerous setting, I have to describe Mona in one word: Brilliant.

Content Warning “Settings”. Bunch of settings and none of them seems to allow you to get rid of Content Warning and you still have to tap to see media just like the disappointing official app. Almost bought this one too - phew.

Perfect. This app is loaded with features and is extremely customizable. Yet somehow it’s also very smooth and polished. This has become the app I use most on my iPhone.

Quickly become my favorite app. Update: I would LOVE to see Mona support other open protocols like Openvibe does. Being able to use Mona for Bluesky would be a dream This app is incredible. Fast, well-designed, customizable - it easily surpasses any experience I’ve had with 1st and 3rd party apps for all the major social media platforms. I started the trial and two hours in I was impressed enough that I paid for Pro Max - I normally hate paying for apps.

Absolutely fantastic--both dev and app. When Musk took over Twitter, I knew it wouldn't be long before the place became an even more horrible cesspool, so I migrated to Mastodon. While Mastodon's basic browser interface is fine if you were used to Twitter's regular interface, the advanced interface with columns left a lot to be desired. I tried five or six apps that gave features I used to rely on in Tweetdeck, but each of them had design issues that were too glaring to ignore. Until Mona. Participating in the beta showed me that the dev knew how to make a solid, sleek interface on both mobile and desktop to cater to almost every need you could have. There's SO MUCH CUSTOMIZATION HERE! And not once--even during beta--have i had crashes or errors (save for an error that is on Mastdon's side, not Mona's). If you want columns, you got 'em. If you don't, you don't have to! Everything from URL colors to icon order and text font is customizable. And the beta showed that the dev is quick to respond to anyone's needs. Seriously, give Mona a try before anything else, and I'd bet you'll fall in love.

Bug fix version upgrade, Explore stops working. Delete and reinstall fails in same way. Likewise on iPad and macOS, even with iCloud sync settings off. Coincidence? Call me skeptical given that paid users are being forced to pay again for version 7. Fool me twice? This user will find an alternative instead. Sad; I liked Mona and was an early paid user but this reeks of sleaze

Great App for iOS and Mac. This is an incredibly good app that is frequently updated and ranks up there with the best social media apps I've used on either platform. It's also got a beautiful user interface that makes Mastodon much more fun. I've just about tried all of them, too. You have to try this out before you spend money on a Mastodon app. I paid for this one.

The Best App for Mastodon. Mona is beautifully-designed, easy to use and endlessly customizable. It offers all of the features I’m looking for in a Mastodon app. It’s simply amazing!

Easily the best app. The functionality is perfrct, does everything a standard Mastodon app should do, and the amount of customization is huge. I've tried a handful of apps for Mastodon on Mac and this one is easily the best.

Best Mastodon client hands down. I tried every single Mastodon app that wasn’t subscription-based and this is by far the best. It’s fast, sleek, stable, and super customizable, and unlike some others out there, it also works flawlessly with Pleroma instances. Absolute gem, I bought the Pro Max upgrade within a week or two and haven’t regretted it once. The only feature I miss is the ability to emoji react on servers that support it (i.e. Pleroma). Dev, if you’re reading this, I’ll definitely send you a big tip if you can make it happen. Can provide details via email if necessary, but take a look at how Soapbox handles it, that’s basically what I have in mind. Either way, thanks for your amazing work.

Basic functionality locked behind paywall. The most basic functionality of mastodon like favoriting and reposting toots, not to mention the ability to filter and mute posts, and which is basically required to make mastodon usable at all, are locked behind a 12 dollar paywall, or a 20 dollar one if you want to use the app on more than one device. I would rather pay a 3 dollar subscription every month then pay that much up front. Give us options, or maybe have the balls to make the app fully paid instead of offering a gimped app and charging to make it useable.

Almost perfect. Fix the notification sound for this app and it will be perfect. It’s unbelievable how loud the notifications are for this app when you have headphones in.

THE BEST MASTODON APP. That’s a big claim, Peter! Well I’ve tried most of the iOS Mastodon clients and Mona is (in my humble opinion) the hands-down best. Almost every aspect of the app can be configured letting you configure it to suit your way of using Mastodon.

expensive. A$15 just to save a bookmark, and oh that’s only the phone version, you gotta pay again for ipad or mac? JFC

Sync does not work, and has never worked.. Here’s how the sync function between Mac and iOS / iPad actually behaves: You read your mastodon feed in Mona on your Mac. You put your Mac to sleep (not always necessary to trigger this). You pick up an i-device and open Mona. Mona loads your timeline to a point approximately 4-6 hours earlier than your Mac. ANY interaction you have with Mona on this device now overwrites your Mac’s reading location with this incorrect time location. The only way to get around this, is to go to Mona on your i-device WHILE you still have your Mac running, and scroll your Mac’s timeline a bit, to make a sync happen on both devices simultaneously, which will catch the i-device up with the Mac. This has been the app’s behaviour since launch. Sync has only ever been a party trick for a demo of synchronised timeline scrolling when devices are awake and next to each other. In the real world (switching from device to device, with only one unlocked and in use at a time), it simply does not work with any reliability. This has been reported to the developer in the past, and it never gets fixed.

Pure Gold. Can’t say enough about this app. It’s the best Mastodon client out there. Get the Max pro the value is amazing. It’s a one time payment (no subscription!) and that alone is worth paying for the app.

In a crowded field of Mastodon apps, this is the one you want. Highly configurable with robust support for theming. I’ve tried others — many of which are very good — but I keep coming back to Mona on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Superb execution of a Mastodon client. I’ve tried many Mastodon clients and this one is head and shoulders above the rest on all three platforms, phone, iPad and Mac. The innovation and attention to detail is impeccable. And today I came across the icing on the cake. I turned on an old iPod touch 6th gen to use as an airplay music controller and noted a bunch of Mastodon clients downloaded while it was dormant. Most were grayed out and inoperative, but Mona seemed live. When I clicked on it, the app said it needed a bit of extra code to run on the iPod’s ancient iOS 12.5, and asked if I wanted to download that small bit of code. Sure, I said, and the code was quickly downloaded and installed. I signed in, and Mona operates beautifully on this ancient device. How thoughtful! Thanks to the developer for this extra bit of attention to detail.

Private but useless unless you buy MonaPro. I was delighted to try this free app, until I tried to boost a post. That’s when the MonaPro message popped up to inform that I needed to try the 14-day trial (or buy) to get this feature. Same for favouriting. You can’t boost, favourite, etc., the most basic of “features.” The App page has no “in app purchase” or “14-day trial” info — how deceptive and disappointing. Unless you trial or buy the Pro version, this app is nothing but a big frustrating ad/demo for the real paid app. Uninstalling, low rating for deceptive practices and lousy demo design.

Crappy app. For crappy network

Polished, but not upfront about paid featured. This is probably the best paid mastodon app for iOS, but the developer should make it clearer that the app is not free. Without buying "Pro", the app is mostly read-only: no likes, no retoots, 160 character limit, etc.
