SkySafari 7 Plus Comments & Reviews 2026
Where’s Comet Leonard. I’ve been using Sky Safari for years and I happily paid for this upgrade. It’s a great app but I’m disappointed that it doesn’t seem to show the location of Comet Leonard. It would be nice if it could locate visitors to our night sky as well as the more permanent residents like stars, planets and deep sky objects.
Space. I love space
Wanted an Ephemeris in a Planetarium Display. The app met my desires to at least replace the defunct SkyWeek Plus from Sky & Telescope. I wanted an app that showed the sky for a given date and time. Further, I wanted to see the stars below the horizon as well. Further, I was delighted to add the display of the equator, the ecliptic, and the galactic equator. I was further delighted to see the plot of the planet Neptune, which SkyWeek lacked. I was happy that the display was adjustable to my latitude and longitude instead of SkyWeek’s hard-coded +40 degrees latitude, 90 degrees west. What I really was looking for was very specific: a planetarium ephemeris. I have only had the app installed for about an hour, so I have a lot more to learn!
Why?. I would give more stars except I keep getting notices to buy it again the app again , again and again !
SkySafari plus. Would not recommend this app. After years of having the SkySafari Pro, and it’s constant prompts for me to upgrade, I finally decided to upgrade to the sky safari plus. I spent two hours trying to enter my preferences in my information into the settings, I prompted into settings to show planets and it did. Now they’re gone even though the setting still indicates that they’re showing. It took the better part of an hour to try to figure out how to get the time to be correct to my current time. I finally found the setting that it thought I was for some reason in England. Once I got that changed, it finally set it up to my local time. But the sky did not adjust. I was sitting there, looking at Orion about 30° above the horizon, but the app was showing me it was about 10° below the horizon. All of the planets have disappeared from the view. And I turned off the marketing settings and yet every time I open the app it’s trying to get me to upgrade to the premium version. Do not recommend this app and if things don’t get better, I’m possibly going to delete it.
It worked great until yesterday. I use this app all the time to plan my observing sessions. Now when you click on “Observing List” the app immediately crashes. I think they are working to fix this. It’s a complete disaster because the Observing Lists are key to my planning. I have lists of Nebulas, Galaxies, things I want to photograph, etc. and now I can’t access them at all. It’s almost enough to make me want to switch to another app. Hopefully they will fix this soon.
Compass Polar alignment. Love the ease of alignment of my tracker with your app ☝️👌✅🌎
The best. This is impressive, the amount of data is overwhelming.
Dr. This app is fantastic to help me understand the relationship of the earth to the stars
Improvement over 6 but a few minor issues. The new interface takes some getting used to, but once I figured out where everything was I definitely think it's an improvement. It makes logging and planning my observing sessions much easier. I love the events section. Enormously useful for planning. I do have a couple of minor complaints. The apparent lack of ability to automatically import observation records from SS6 is leading to a lot of work to restore progress on observing lists by carefully relogging them out of my notebooks. Also I like the new notification options, but you REALLY need a way to restrict notifications to things that are above the horizon from your current location. I don't want to get notifications of shadow transits on Jupiter when Jupiter is below my current horizon. It would be really nice to be able to restrict notifications to phenomena one can actually OBSERVE. Note for anyone struggling with the decision between plus and pro; On SS4 And SS5, I went with the pro version but starting with 6 I realized plus is a better fit for me. I use SkySafari in the field as a star atlas, and Plus is just a more practical field Atlas than the pro version. It goes just a hair deeper than Uranometria 2000, which is all I'll likely ever need. SSPro is a great desk reference, but unless you own a HUGE dobsonian, it's actually a little impractical in the field.
Won’t connector to the telescope. This app won’t find the telescope in the network
Bait and Switch. I paid $10 for the premium app now they’ve made the app free, and hidden the premium content behind a subscription paywall. I wouldn’t trust this developer.
App crashes using ‘Tonight’ feature every time. Used to be great for seeing what was in the sky during a particular night, but now the app crashes without fail every single time I try to use that feature… that’s the only thing I used in this app…
No sync, no support.. I paid a lot of money for this app and for the macOS version. But I can't get the Settings to sync or to import an export across devices. Support staff range from nonexistent to rude. What am I paying for here?
Cumbersome. Not worth the money
The. Best Astronomy App. I have been using the app through four generations of development. It is easy to use, accurate, very customizable, and works well for stargazing and telescope control.
Crashes upon navigating to “Tonight”. Don’t bother supporting newer versions if they are going to leave older PAID versions behind in a non usable state.
Great Concept. I’ve had version 5 for years. Always seemed disorganized. Finally decided to upgrade because no matter how I tried to look for the comet tsuchinshan-atlas in the database, it wouldn’t show up. Still doesn’t show up in the new version. It’s not listed anywhere and you can’t search for it with any version of its name. Needs some work for sure.
Crashes when ‘Tonight’ is selected. Tonight’s bug
Went back to Starsense. Targets but doesn't show arrows. Waste of money. Went back to Starsense.
Lost key functionality to try to get subscription $. Don’t buy this version if you are interested in a simple, effective interface to visualize the night sky. In an apparent effort to emphasize social interaction between users and to push subscription revenue, this version ended up making the simple things much more difficult.
Seriously. You can’t include a-once-in-80,000-year comet in the Tonight or Events section without paying more money? What a disappointment.
Safari 6 seems to be better. I miss being able to forward time and see what objects were rising or where objects were the previous day/ week/ month. Haven’t found that option yet in 7 Plus. Good thing 6 is still on my phone.
Telescope target is not showing up. The telescope connects using SkySafari 7 plus. But the bulls eye target does not show up on the display. So you do not know where you are pointing or slewing to. This is a big issue. SkySafari 6 does not have this issue! Please address this.
Excellent planetarium software. Works well with the Celestron Wi-Fi . Even shows moon eclipse phases.
Sky safari. Best astromony applicatiom
Planets. It would be nice to see if the stars that this app has information on, would display if there are any interesting planets that orbit it
Formatting issues. New app does not format correctly the heading in my SE2 SF6 plus much better
SkySafari 7 The Tool Bar always present in Sky View!. A SkySafari (SS) developer asked me, “ “Name a feature missing in SS 7? Ok, easy! I miss the feature removing the Tool Bar from bottom of the screen! The computer controls are always on the screen occupying valuable space. At star-parties, The tool bar produces a lot of white light, especially when displayed on 43 inch tv screen. SkySafari Seven is all messe-up. There are many important features in SS-6 that did not get transferred to SS-7 SkySafari 7 for iOS came out in December 2021, Just in time for Christmas Shoppers, unfortunately SkySafari 7 got the COVID Virus, Im putting SkySafari 7 in quarantine until SS 8 comes out. I do not know how to return SS 7 to get my money back? SkySafari Six Plus is a much better stargazing app, in my opinion, the best stargazing app in the market! in SS 7 you can not rearrange Menu Items, or hide unwanted menu items. Just go with SkySafari Six which is a great App. and save your money for SkySafari eight which Im sure will be a big improvement! Maybe SS7 will have gotten its COVID booster vaccine in time for Christmas release of SmySafari Eight! Note to developer, who asked me “what’s wrong with SS7?” I think you know more than I, what is wrong with SkySafari Seven!
Great star gazing app. Best of all the star gazing and Astro info apps. Very accurate and easy to use.
Nice app, but too much spam. The app itself is great and I prefer it over Stellarium. I think it’s cleaner, more intuitive to use and I like the menu bar at the bottom, especially the ‘Tonight’ tab. I deducted two stars due to all the annoying upgrade spam the developers throw at you. In-app notifications, banners, random notifications and emails. Even with the paid Plus version it’s constant bombardment of upgrade spam. For this reason I will probably not renew my subscription.
Skysafari 7 plus. You have to pay more to see more
Plus 7 is not an upgrade. I have and enjoy SkySafari PRO 5. After a couple of notifications to “upgrade” for $9.99, I trustingly clicked through and purchased the so-called upgrade and discovered I accidentally paid for a downgrade— PLUS 7. Plus is less featured than Pro 5. I feel duped. Now I have both Pro 5 and Plus 7 on my iPhone and no actual upgrade path to Pro 7. I can only get to Pro 7 now by buying a full price copy despite owning two other releases. Or I can pay $29.99/year for Premium. I’m not ready to subscribe to yet another anything, I just want an upgrade path to Pro 7, especially since I just downgraded for $9.99. I was an idiot. Don’t get duped by the good people at SkySafari like I was.
Bait and switch. Can’t even see comets unless you upgrade! What a bunch of crap. Can get the same setup from any other cheaper app
Can’t figure it out. Really hoping to enjoy this completely different than the six version not overly happy
Updates. Just why do we the people who purchased your app in the first place have to keep paying for every update that you put out.A lot of the other apps don’t charge for any of there updates.Just for this reason I giving you a 3 star rating.
Won’t connect. Sky Safari 7 Plus won’t connect to my Scope and iPad ios16. Error message says to join the Wi-Fi network (the iPad is set to the scope Wi-Fi), enter it’s iPhone address correctly ( this is automatically set and present), and to give SK7 access to the local network( iPad settings say the permission is granted, no similar setting in SK7). Same issue with my iPhone 13 Pro on ios17. Waste of money if I can’t control the scope!
Great app, but…. I have had to “repurchase” it a couple of times after installing an iPad update. They should at least offer a much reduced price.
Plus Version Crashes on iPad. I bought the plus version a couple of years back. Since a recent update, the “Tonight” option in the bottom tray menu now crashes the program. It works okay on my iPhone but no longer works on my iPad. The free version Tonight option still works. This needs to be fixed. 😃
No Mac update and no 8 Plus. Version 8 is now Pro only for iOS for $50 (not Mac of course), so I guess they aren't interested in casual users by not offering a Plus version. I won't be upgrading. I own many previous versions, including the abandoned Mac version 6. Too bad they don't care about these other markets.
Lots to see - And this helps you find it. This app will show you where and when to find most anything astronomical in the sky. With numerous controls and settings, you can configure your screen to help you meet your observing goals. It take a little figuring with the settings to get it setup , but it’s worth the effort. I’ve used it on my iPad and phone. And used it to help aim my telescope. The extensive object (planet, star system, globular cluster, nebula, galaxy, etc.) information is educational.
CRASH!!!. This app is unusable it crashes soon as it opens. Have reinstalled and uninstalled twice and nothing is working. Very frustrating to do observations and this app won’t even stay on. How about an update sometime to fix this. Did a Google search and this is a known problem. Don’t recommend this app until it starts working again. Glad I had Stellarium that app worked perfectly.
very functional, slightly ugly. Could they color code the objects highlighted in my observing list list by object type? Or at the very least make the color different than the meridian line and zenith/altitude lables? very much an eye sore
Excellent App. Does everything you could ask for in an astronomy app including telescope control and eyepiece previews. It's also beautiful.
Once worked now crashes.. The “Tonight” button in the bottom menu bar used to work but now it crashes the app. You have to go to the search button now to get to items for viewing. How could the developers miss this function?
Star gazing app. With one of these star gazing apps, in 2024 a person can look into the night sky and exactly what they are looking at. This app makes exploring the night sky a neat experience for the kids.
SkySafari 7. Plus. After trying it for 10 minutes it is not working on my IPAD Pro. I cannot find any way to get a refund I would not recommend this app. There are better apps that are free and works better.
Crashes. On 7.5.0 the app crashes when using the Tonight button.
Sky safari 7.0. The menu bar didn’t show up. There is no instructions on how to set up the basic navigation steps like accessing the “object info”. It’s practically useless
Did you know that you can earn 25 USD from our site just by registering? Get $25 for free by joining Payoneer!
Location issues. Paid $15 again and still can’t locate
3 years and still waiting for fixes. Been over 3 years and still waiting for UI fixes; 1. hide menu to conserve space. 2 Tiny fonts on Large font setting. 3 Audio icon hard to activate. So uninstalling Ver 7 and going back to Version 6. Version 7 a TOTAL FAILURE and a waste of money to upgrade!
Devils Comet. Hi trying to find Devils Comet from Sydney Australia in the App put in search nothing comes up.

Problem with sky safari 7. Lots of classic telescopes in their lists, but no new creators like Askar telescopes.
Tricked into buying this!. There was a notification on SkyPortal ( which runs my Celestron Evolution 8) to upgrade. I thought I was buying a pro version of that. Why else would there be a notification on that app to go pro? Paid for this app it won’t even run my scope it’s complete garbage. And a ripoff!!!
Missing one feature. It’s a fantastic app and I highly recommend it. Only thing is I find it can be off when judging magnitude of comets, which seem to be higher from other sources. This app features a massive star catalog and great UI. The observing list feature is incredibly helpful and worth the purchase on its own. The main feature I would like to be added is a custom asterism highlighter allowing you to draw lines to form asterisms to guide you when starhopping. Like by Canes Venatici there is an “L” shape, from which you can go down to a two star diagonal, from which you can go to a cluster of three stars, to another, and finally M3. It would be really nice if you could highlight those patterns yourself in the starchart. Another complaint of mine is the event finder has to be constantly reset. I can’t set it to show events in the next week, only between date x and date y. To when date y passes I can no longer see those events without manually changing the date range. And when date x passes I now have to scroll past events that have already happened.
SkySafari7Plus. Seems I’ve used it forever would not be without it
CGEM. Incapable de contrôler la CGEM
Own All Three Versions. 5, 6, and now 7 and honestly there is not much difference. Version 6 However has one advantage and that is the ability to hide the menu bar at the bottom of the page. With version 7 it's stuck on the view page. 7 is less confusing if using with a telescope and this app is basically designed for viewing with a scope and is the best mobile app for doing so. It remains accurate and precise and easy to use so am happy to support this developer.
