Reno for Reddit App Description & Overview

What is reno for reddit app? Reno is a pro reddit client, with super clean Instagram styled user interface, stacks of convenient features designed for reddit lovers.

Reno is designed by the creator of iAlien, one of the most popular reddit clients back in the day. We discontinued the app because the official reddit client was great, it made no sense for us to make another reddit client.

After years of thinking, we are finally able to design an app with a super clean user interface, meanwhile make it as powerful as the official app. Our goal is to make the best reddit client for iOS, and we will roll out more features in the coming months.

It’s broken.. I love this app when it works but I constantly hit an error, “Too many requests,” that makes it unusable. Sometimes it says that when I click to upvote a status. Sometimes it says it in general when I open the app, like today. “Too many requests” for me to see my feed. UPDATE: I still can’t see my feed but the error message now is “The data couldn't be read because it isn't in the correct format.”

So much better than reddit mobile, but a few things. This has all the features that I couldn’t get with apollo or the horrible downgrade that is the current reddit app. My only grievance is that it’s not very customizable like other reddit alternative apps. Unlike Apollo, you cannot change the color of the app so you’re left with this very solid grey color when I would prefer a much darker color similar to the night mode for Reddit and other reddit alternatives. Another thing is the controls are slightly wonky, you can’t click a comment to collapse it but instead have to pull to the side (which will then stop, and then you pull again to fully complete the action). The font is also less than desirable. Makes the app feel very cheap, I wish there was an option to adjust it. All in all, a 4/5 for me. All the things I mentioned don’t fully hold back the functionality of the app, the video player is gorgeous.

Clean, but unfinished. The interface is really clean and one of the more beautiful Reddit apps I’ve come across for the iPhone. However, there are many features that any Reddit app should include that are just not there. I suggest adding things like user and post flairs, access to sidebars, mod mail, etc.

Fantastic!. I just migrated over to iOS and was really disappointed in the reddit app offerings. I tried the most popular ones but was really frustrated that they all seem to load some imgur gifs and pictures on the Imgur website rather than in a viewer on the app. BUT RENO DOESN’T! It loads everything naturally as you scroll and it’s absolutely wonderful! The design is also very pleasingly minimalist but also very functional. I also love that the night mode changes with the phone. Please add an upgrade option so I can support you developers! (And also remove the ads)

How is this even allowed??. Being able to block specific users you don’t wish to see or be contacted by (maybe because they are harmful and harassing, just two examples I can pull out of my head) or even blocking subreddits that you don’t wish to see all BEING LOCKED BEHIND A PAYWALL IS NEXT LEVEL STUPID AND GREEDY/PREDATORY. Don’t even bother with this hunk of garbage.

Great app! Unfortunately abandoned by developer.. This was my favorite Reddit client. I loved the interface, animations, etc. However it has been abandoned by the developer for almost 2 years and there are quite a lot of issues with the app. It’s a shame as if the app got more attention and updates, this would be my go to Reddit app. But for now, I would recommend Apollo. Though I would still try out this app. Hopefully the developer returns as this app could definitely be one of the best

The Best Reddit Client. Hooray, a Reddit client that doesn’t pull the crap that the official app does (like putting /r/all posts in your home feed? Like what?)! This one is my favorite. There are a few noticeable bugs. For example, sometimes a comment will be displayed below at the bottom of a short post before I start scrolling down, but when I do scroll, that comment disappears and I can never find it. Ellipses, for whatever reason, display like ••• instead of …

Best Reddit app by far. I love how much detail I can see from each post on a subreddit and the pictures from different articles all on the same page. Amazing.

Very great format! Already enjoying it. Not even 5 minutes in, I already love how this looks. I admit it looks nothing like Instagram but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a lot better still and more simple! I recommend it if you’re not such a big fan of the OG Reddit format (or Apollo)

Great app. Got this app after I was forced to delete the official Reddit app and was really happy with it. It looks great and it’s easy to use. My only complaints are that it constantly asks you to rate it and from what I’ve figured out, you can’t condense threads. Other than that I love it

It’s a wonderful alternative. Yeah… I’m an Apollo gal. While I still rarely use Reddit, this has been the only alternative I feel comfortable using.

This app rules. I really like how it just feels like I’m scrolling through my Instagram its hard to tell the two apart with how seamless it is. Could you please make an Instagram app now that doesn’t have annoying ads and posts it thinks you like but have nothing to do with you? That would really rock

Needs a way to change the view. This app is awesome for me with the exception of it needs an option change the view to compact instead of the full post.

It’s so close. It would have been a fantastic alternative to the Reddit app if it only could swipe through posts, other than that it’s pretty great

Very promising. Very clean, fluid and intuitive. Still pretty raw, and has nowhere near the customization that clients like Apollo and Slide offer, but that’s a good thing in this case since it’s very good out of the box. The premium version is necessary for daily driver use, as the ads are just too distracting.

Comments don’t collapse easily. My favorite thing about Reddit is the comments collapsing. In this app you have to hold an slopes and the click ‘collapse’ instead of just click on the comment to collapse it. Please make collapsing work like all the other apps please. I was so disappointed. I deleted the app.

Brilliant. Design is what you feel and how it works and this feels just right even at first launch. Many reddit clients don't get enough treatments on the whitespace and typography front but this one is different. It feels at home.

Great, it needs work.. I would like to have a feature implemented where I can just long press photographs and the options for sharing and all pop up. other than that it’s pretty decent.

Fantastic - Some Suggestions. I think aesthetically this app look and functions fantastically. The only things I’ve noticed so far is that I wish there was an icon to designate when a post is pinned and I also wish you could easily switch between posts and comments when viewing a profile, I know how it works now but maybe a tab system would be better to easily switch? Also maybe have the option to long press a comment to collapse? The current system works fine and looks really nice but it would be more convenient when I’m using my phone with only my left hand if I could long press. Thanks for the app!

Too many requests. Cant even use the app…constantly tells me “too many requests” and is incapable of loading content Also, make a feature for collapsing comments like the original Reddit has. Nobody wants to scroll that much makes my thumb ache. If such a feature exists that’s my b but as far as I can tell there isn’t much in the way of personalizing in account settings

Best App I’ve Tried. I’ve used Swipe, Apollo, and the reason official app. This is the best one. I wish you could see upvoted comments on accounts. I like seeing popular pages most upvoted comment. I can’t on this. Not a big deal. Format is nice and instantly understood how it works. I like that i can sort by rising on here too

Best designed Reddit app. This is by far the nicest design I’ve seen in a Reddit app. It’s missing a lot of features but they are supposedly coming in the pro version soon so I won’t let that affect the review.

It's always the abandonware.... For some reason I am just attracted to abandonware like a moth to flame. You have some super talented people behind these apps and at some point the app just stops getting updated. This is without a doubt the best reddit app I've ever used and I am choosing to keep using it even with the ads and occasional small issues.

Better alternative. Takes some getting used to but crashes less than the terrible official app.

The ad partnership is such garbage. I’m only even checking it out due to the superior app Apollo’s eventual demise, and which the interface is pleasant enough the barrage of ads is repetitive cringe garbage. It’s bad enough I came from an app that didn’t even HAVE ads, but my first day with this had some enormous booty girl in her skintight white yoga pants right in your face, seemingly every second scroll. Then today it’s a couple of young girls that basically look like a teaser for soft core CP, again every second scroll. It would be pretty clear by my Reddit history that I’m not a prude but it’s just embarrassing to risk being seen using this app.

Almost Perfect. For serious Reddit browsing, I wouldn't use this, but for a never ending gallery of images, it's pretty great. A couple of things I would change: -when you click into an image to go fullscreen, it's not obvious how to go back to the main page. So far I've been clicking on the subreddit identifier which will take you to the subreddit the image you just fullscreened is found in and then you can go back to the overview. Unless I'm missing it, this is awkward. -A slideshow option would be fantastic, as would an option to show just the images without all the other chrome. Maybe overlay the up and down vote buttons and the upvote count. -Finally, make the NSFW toggle persist between launches, please. I should also point out: I've used this on an iPad and now I'm using it on a Mac and, aside from the above, it works brilliantly. If I could get the above, It's a five star app.

Great potential. Used this for about 4 months. Biggest issue is that as you go further in a thread comments stop becoming nested properly. Few other odd ui choices (hard to get to my comment history). 2yrs since last update, wondering if this is abandoned.

Finally, a Reddit client that not only looks great but functions week!. Seriously, I’ve used Narwhal, Apollo, Slide, and many other reddit client but this one is great. The way the menus are laid out on the bottom are perfect. Don’t change a thing! No annoying sub-menus and everything is easy to get to. It’s very reminiscent of the official reddit app, but way better. I Don’t care much for compact views. My only gripe is that there are ads. I’d happily pay for an ad-free version of this app! Please make it happen! Updated to 5 stars.

Stop asking me to rate your app.. It’s trash, okay. You ask me once a day and I click no every single time- yet you continue to ask. Then I finally click yes to drop you this one star and nothing happens. Went through the App Store instead, because you need to here it. Disable that obnoxiousness. It will improve your product 1000%

Really cool but missing one glaringly obvious thing. I really want to love this app but you guys and every other third-party Reddit app developers ALWAYS miss the option to swipe through posts in your feed without having to back out of the post and scroll down. I don't need to swipe on comments to reply or flag or whatever. A button is fine. It's very nice being able to see the posts and comments all at once. I end up missing a lot of cool posts and discussions because I constantly have to click back and forth between posts. I'm sure this is done to appease oldReddit users who want to get away from the wall of text, but still want to feel like they're maintaining some sort of "control" of their viewing. Why not an option? Literally just add that one feature and it's an immediate 5 stars. I'd change my review.

Almost perfect. Only problems i’ve had is, swiping to go back has to be in a certain section on a thread or it’ll do a quick gesture to a comment on accident. not a big deal, but i wish there was a way to send awards, also buy or open the free awards. Other than that i love this app, don’t even realize i’m using another one sometimes.

Very good alternative to the official app. I was never a fan of the Reddit app because it was glitchy and messy but this app has a very clean layout that one could get used to pretty quick. The only thing is it’s missing a few easy functionalities of the Reddit app or the Apollo app like being able to read subreddit rules or sidebars very easily. I wasn’t sure where to find that.

Great but needs the quick scroll arrow. Title says it. I just wish this app had the little arrow on the side that lets you jump to the next comment without having to scroll through all of the replies. It would be perfect if it had that IMO.

Good ui, awful usability. The only reason the app isn’t one star is because it’s visually appealing. However, I’ve had numerous posts and comments of mine that get uploaded with only a fraction of what was typed out. Why? How? Like seriously, how is that even possible? It happens frequently enough that in order to functionally use this app without worry of losing what you just typed out in your post or comment, you must ALWAYS copy your post or comment prior to hitting send/done, and then check to make sure the entire thing uploaded. How silly is that?

Clean and light!. Got tired of browsing reddit in safari and looked into an app. I had tried the official and didn’t like it. Roommate suggested Apollo but this app was a third of the size! Small on disc, very quick, and it looks great. All I need is a paid version so I can ditch the ads!

Mostly good. I was looking for a lightweight reddit browser app. This was working well for a few weeks. However for the past few days, the app would randomly freeze and quit itself. This makes the browsing experience very annoying.

I want to love this app. This app has the potential to be the best Reddit app for the iPad except that I try to edit a comment and there is no obvious way to confirm the edit, so I just can’t edit comments on this app. If they fix this, I’ll change this rating.

Solid app with some issues. The only problems I’ve run into so far are improperly un-nested comments that should be nested. Once there are no more ads and the nesting issues are solved, should be good to go.

Poor UI when viewing other’s profiles. Posts are default and you have to hunt to find comments. Also doesn’t show which sub comments were posted in. Slower and less smooth scrolling compared to Apollo and Narwhal.

Phenomenal. I always used Apollo but it started lagging lately so I downloaded Reno and I love it! I’m definitely not going back. I’ll pay for pro once it’s available. Thanks again!

I love the app, I have a few suggestions though. I was browsing the app store for a new Reddit client, (I’ve been using the official one for a while) I’ve never liked Apollo or Narwhal, and I came across this! It’s amazing and the interface is so clean. But I’d like to see a couple things added- 1. A “quick move” button, it will take you down to the next comment thread in the post. The official reddit app has it and it’s been the hardest thing to get used to. 2. Different themes and icons that aren’t locked behind a paywall. Make some free user-interface themes and free icons. Maybe an icon for each color and stuff like that. And the interface themes could change the color of the Upvote and Downvote button when they’re not clicked yet, the color of the red when composing a comment or post, and some other colored features. You could make them for both Light and Dark mode. As the Official reddit app has styles, but only accessible in light mode. 3. User and post flairs. Plus the ability to add them to your post. I can’t post in Sub-redddits that require a flair because I’m unable to add one. Please add this soon. And thats all I have to say! Great app overall, I’m just looking for a few things to be added.

ALMOST perfect. The ONLY thing this app is missing is the ability to change the theme from within the app. Some of us are stuck on iOS 12 (I have an iPhone 6, my friend has an iPhone 5S) and can’t upgrade to iOS 13 to enjoy dark mode. I’d be happy to have this feature and perhaps some other customisation features as well, as long as the app size stays the same or close to what it is now 🤭.

Better than the rest. I’ve used reddit mobile web for the past year bc all of the other apps were terrible and bloated. This app simplified the experience so much, it’s so enjoyable to use! Thanks for making this :)

Crashes when trying to read notifications. I clicked on the notification message and it crashes immediately. Iphone 2020 SE.

Getting close. First off, love the UI! The app is clean and functional and not too crowded, well done. For the most part this client has everything I need with the exception of making sharing easier. Specifically I would love to share posts as images. The app can share posts, but it essentially shares a link to Reddit . I’d love a way to share just an image, especially so that I can share things with friends and family who don’t use Reddit.

Some issues but overall decent. One star removed for the constant nag screens begging for reviews. Asking once is enough, every time I open is too much. Some pretty glaring bugs, comments don’t load properly. The top comment changes when you scroll down. Swipe gestures are not sensitive enough, need to drag across more than half the screen to trigger the action. Should be easier to activate for those of us with larger screens. Ads are intrusive and no way to disable them at the moment. So just deal with it I guess? Plenty of other reddit apps out there that allow you to disable them for a one time fee. This is the most obnoxious issue I have right now. I do like the interface, I appreciate that this app focuses on your subscribed subreddits rather than dumping you into the cesspool that is Reddit’s default front page. Just wish it were more polished. Focus on the core function of the app and keep that polished and the rest will come with time.

Easier to get lost in scrolling, and that’s a good thing!. The only complaint I have is that it’ll randomly refresh and I end up back at the top.

Awesome client. This is a good Reddit client, no clutter and this brings the old design of the original Reddit app which a lot of user wants. Not much to think of any improvement honestly, I just hope it doesn’t gobble battery in the background.

Frequent “too many requests” error. App has some fundamental issues with its API calls to Reddit. Trying to login, on the permission granting notice page, when tapping Accept, it repeatedly returns a “too many logins” error. Finally got logged in by canceling the screen and trying a couple more times. Search doesn’t work, every attempt returns “too many requests” error. After multiple attempts the app crashes. Develop needs to actually test this app with user accounts, it either isn’t working properly or has unstable or buggy connections to Reddit’s API, which the app absolutely needs to function at the most basic level.

Great app for cutting reddit time. Thanks to this app I’ve been able to reduce my time on Reddit significantly! This app has a handy “too many requests” lockout feature that occurs when you load posts for about 5-10 minutes. Thanks to this nifty mechanic, my reddit addiction has been solved and I’m now able to go out and touch grass. Thanks Reno!

Crashing a bunch. Crashing and Too many requests errors a bunch

Simple, but every useful feature is there!. Reddit’s default bloated buggy crashing app is garbage compared to this. Fast, smooth, intuitive gestures, it’s amazing. Now the only feature left to replace that no third party app has, is the News tab in the default app. Maybe one day?

Doesn't do spoiler text. This app doesn't do spoiler text correctly

Incorrect format?. Had to uninstall because the app kept showing me a pop up saying incorrect format and I couldn’t check anything

Cleann.. Love this client. An ability to move voting buttons to the right and some cool custom icons would make this perfect!

Great!. One of the best reddit clients I’ve used so far, I didn’t like how others forced you to pay a subscription to customise. This app is smooth and easy to use. Feels just like instagram but for reddit. Though I wish I could customise more and my profile. I also wish that the sliding to get out of a thread was more consistent.

Gorgeous Reddit Client. Beautiful and Smooth.

Perfectly designed Reddit app. I’m not sure what it is with Reddit, but it’s seem to be in a evergrowing downfall, after trying most of these Reddit-style apps. I concluded with reno to be the best just because of its simplicity and usability. The buttons are where I want, gestures are right. Good work reno!

95%. I would love to see: 1) jump to next comment thread 2) hide posts in one swipe

Perfect client. Needs only a Translation option.

No updates in 7 months. Pretty much what the title says. This app is great but the features it lacks are essential to how I use Reddit and if it never gets updates, there is no point in sticking around and waiting for the app to become what it could have become.

Great app!. Love most things about it, it’s fast, gallery views, etc. one thing it needs though is faceId or password unlock.

Very low on features. You can’t customize anything but light and dark mode, yes it has a clean layout but so does the Reddit app! I would have at least liked the ability to filter stuff out!

Works well, needs an update. Looks great and works well. But doesn’t scale to my screen. There’s black bars on the top and bottom. Please update!

the absolute best for ipad. i like the app fine. it’s easy and fast to use. when the ad free option is happening, i will definitely get it. i’ve tried literally every other reddit app on ipad and this one wins. (for iphone i like antenna)

Too Many Requests. Can’t use app. Too many requests. App works for a while but the- too many requests. You’ll be in the middle of scrolling or posting a comm- too many requests. App crash, reopen, loadi- too many requests. Too many requests. Too many requests.

Keeps crashing. stars for the user friendly interface but the app keeps crashing for some reason

Wow. Didn’t believe I’m gonna enjoy this app like this, easy to use , fast and lot more

Great App. Love the app, it’s better than Apollo and Narwhal in my opinion. I would really love a Pro Reno though, I will gladly pay to get rid of the ads. :(

The app is great. This app is fantastic hopefully pro isn't monthly but as a one time fee thing

great for iphone 6 or any iphone using ios 12. great for iphone 6 or apple products using ios lower than 14 as you can’t download reddit because apple wont let you so you. can use reno

Awesome app for people that are under ios 13. Im on a iPhone 6 reddit isn’t available but this is and its great

Abandoned app. This app hasn't been updated in three years, but works for the most part.

Something to fix. Sub reddit’s that I have joined that begin with a number don’t show in my communities, would be nice to see this fixed.

No longer works.. Reddit killed this one too. It worked for a few days and now it won't refresh and says "Too many requests".

Doesn’t work. This app is plagued with “Too Many Requests” . You’ll load in to your account fine and after 60 seconds the app crashes. When you try to reload the page it says “Too Many Requests” and refuses to load anything. Don’t waste your time on this one

Trash. I never leave app reviews and had to figure out how just to review this app. It’s trash! It times out constantly and just crashes. Then when I close and try to reopen it, it says an error. Doesn’t happen to any other Reddit apps except this one. Very disappointing.

Good When it Works. This app has a nice UI. I wanted something clean coming from Apollo. But it literally crashes 90% of the time. I always get a “Too many requests” error which ultimately leads to a crash. Can’t recommend the app as is.

Disgusting ads. The app is nice, but there is no way to remove ads and they are atrocious. I really don’t like seeing a picture of a person’s head cut open over and over while scrolling my feed.

Decent but can’t save pics or vids ?. That’s my main complaint. Unable to save pics or vids. Or maybe I just couldn’t figure it out…but without that feature I have no reason to use the app.

Great looks, needs infinite scroll. Would be a 10/10 perfect Reddit app alternative if it had swiping through posts, like the original Reddit app, would literally be Reddit app but 10x nicer looking

Good viewing experience, but ads every 4 posts. P

Stop asking for reviews. App is fine, seems to be missing chat feature, and it’s really annoying asking about reviews

Good start!. I’m a huge fan of the design of this app. The big thing for Me though is notifications. When I’m on Reddit I’m having a Conversation and I need to know when others reply

Ehh. Needs some serious polishing, it’s filled with bugs. The worst one is when you click an image or video and then your locked in and can’t close it, happens every few minutes.

Links don’t work. Any link posted by anyone unless it the humbnail link just come back “unsupported format”. Back to Appolo for now otherwise I like the UX/UI of this Reddit client.

Same as reddit. Almost everything is the same as reddit wich is a good thing

RIP Apollo. Ads everywhere, laggy interface, numerous crashes, and “too many requests”. Not worth downloading at all. Pretty sure they bought the 5 star reviews.

Surprisingly great. I just deleted the official Reddit mobile app in exchange for Reno and I personally love it.

It got 1 ad. Idk if it counts as an ad because I’m only getting 1 ad for this one guys webinar consult. Other than that it’s a good app

Tiny Reddit. This version of Reddit is more than a tenth the size of the actual Reddit app the rest is a bonus for me and my stretched 16 GB

Disconnected. This app has the worst interface no custamizing and a lake of updates. Probably working for spez. This app makes has a horrible layout. Reddit destroyed all the good apps so we are left with this abomination.

Alternative to reddit. I enjoy this way more than the reddit app. My own complaint is the compact mode feature does not seem compact. There is still so much white space in the posts that it just feels a squished version of original posts. Please make it actually look compact.

PLEASE Fix & I’ll give you 5 stars. Any time you use the ‘&’ character (and others, haven’t fully worked out which yet) it erases anything in the comment that follows. I.e., if I write “blah bla& blah & la-di-da-do” it will post “blah bla”. This is really annoying because I’ll have written an entire comment &

no excess swiping. i love that i don’t have to swipe every which way just to up/downvote, reply, save a post, etc! everything is just available for me to tap on. the excess swiping was my main gripe with other reddit clients. the ui for this app is like an upgraded version of the current reddit client i use. keep up the good work, can’t wait for an add free version!

Too many requests error makes the app unusable. Cannot browse for more than ten minutes before the app locks up and throws “too many requests” errors

Keeps crashing. Worked fine for a couple or months but now it is in a permanent loop of crashing

Worse then Apollo in every way. Theres the same stupid ad every 2 posts it got so annoying seeing them after every single post I had to uninstall

Annoying to use. Barely resembles The IG experience. This app barely reminds me of IG. Words, symbols, links are all over the place. Like the dev used a gatling gun and sprayed buttons, links, and images all over. Its not easy to differentiate where one post ends and another starts. The app needs serious UI cleanup. It has potential but was poorly executed.

No audio. No sound on videos, came from Apollo and it was cool to have a volume button on gifs. Otherwise great app.

Amazing. Exactly as expected. Clean, instagram like experience

Instagram-like feed is great. This is an especially good reader for picture-heavy Reddit threads on an iPad.

Too many requests. App crashes often for 10-20 minutes at a time with the message ‘too many requests’ my search for a Reddit app alternative continues. Don’t waste your time with this.

Great design but not a great app. The app looks wonderful but it always crashes

Good. Can you add a toggle option to have line seperators between posts? Other than that, it's my favorite of all the reddit reskins.

Best reddit client. UI is beautiful! Crashes here and there and sound doesn’t play on video but other than that, 5/5

RedditHead. I don’t think you can call it the best reddit client, basically not yet, you cannot compare this with Narwhal or Apollo.. even the basic features are missing: - Compact mode (left or right thumbnails) - Parent comment jump button - Dark and true dark mode - Quick bar to navigate between your favorite subreddits - More app icons selection There is more but those just the basics to call this app the best reddit client.. but it’s a good start!

Buggy. Constantly crashing and won’t allow you navigate through the app without some sort of error. I miss baconreader
