Locks access to files. I just wanted a simple app to edit txt files. This let me edit a file once, then refused to open it again and just kept popping up the free trial to their weekly subscription upgrade when the basic version would do everything I need. I couldn't even view the file anymore while this was installed because Files just tried to open it in here and this would do nothing until I signed up for the subscription.

Pathetic little app. I tried using this app, it was having good features and i was thinking of buying it, then suddenly i am not able to open the file i just created .. it was not even allowing me to view the file i created without purchasing their weekly plan.. if this is the case do not allow to create in first place. I had to redo all my work again because of it .. pathetic.

Stay away from this app. Initially the app was fine. Now whenever you open a document it just keeps prompting you to subscribe to their paid services which they call “Claim your free Text Editor+ and unlock all features!”. LOL, they say that while locking you out of ALL functionalities of the app, even the very basic ones. Like one of the other reviews says: Try EasyEditText instead.

Mostly good. Nice little text editor. One issue I found is that on some files, after editing and closing, the changes are saved with no option to not save the changes. On another file it saved a copy and did not overwrite the original. This is inconsistent and can be confusing. Then, after closing the file, I could not delete it because the editor didn’t close the file properly.

Too much $$$ for a text editor. The subscription price is unreasonable for a text editor. I cannot imagine too many people that work with text files so frequently that this cost would be worth it. I would MAYBE consider it if it were a monthly fee but even that would require some consideration. Consider that BBEdit (widely considered the premier text editor on the Mac) is a $50 one-time purchase and offers so much more functionaility.

Best app but not really. I like the normal version but I have 1 issue. I have a eye sight issue of the color white and I have no money to unlock the dark mode and I had to delete the app because because it wasn’t good

SCAM (read below). The moment you try to access a document you created on the app, It will not let you without you upgrading. There is no "free" app, it doesn't even let you try it before forcing you to upgrade even just to access. I deleted the document I created on the app, and unfortunately the document now remains on my iPad's Files app because the original was deleted. This app is a SCAM. Don't upgrade, don't download.

$50 a year. Seriously?. I just need need to type some text and be able to do a find and replace on some but not all occurs cues of a word. The app has a find and a replace all occurrences but to replace just some you have to type in the replacement word for every single occurrence . How hard could it be to add a “next” on the find and replace. As for the dollar a week forever fee, that’s just laughable.

What’s up with dark mode?. Edit: Thanks so much for fixing the problem! It works perfectly now! This app is awesome and has been so useful for writing my stories. Great job. The dark mode feature is not working. Whenever I try to use any of my files, the dark mode feature is applied but the font also stays black as well. In order to write, I have to change the font color to white so that I could see the words better. Very tedious task to do for all my files.

Very Limited - nothing works after trial (better options). This could be a great app. It should be a 1-time purchase but instead they went for the monthly fee. The basic features work very well. Many of the features you’d expect require payment and you must pay weekly. I have found many better apps that are newer and free so will be uninstalling this now.

Text Editor is Great; I’m writing a book right now!. Text Editor is Great; I’m writing a book right now! I searched for a book writing app and couldn’t find a free one until Text Editor.

Useful text editor hidden behind a mountain of dark patterns. While it had a lot of good features it kept asking me to subscribe after a while it didn’t even let me open the file I was editing until I paid. While I understand that the devs should be paid they should instead have made the app paid instead of this bait and switch dark pattern.

This app got randomly added to my iPad and I thought it was by apple. Whenever I get a new app on my iPad I bet it’s by apple unless I got it but no this was from TapUniverse??

Too short free trial. Okay, by “free trial” I mean the free period you get with the app once you, well, install it. I have only edited one document one time and then when I tried to edit it again, it gave me a message saying “3 day trial and then $0.99 per month subscription”. It’s a well-made app but I can’t use it again…not unless I reinstall it to trick it-I mean DON’T DO IT.

fatal flaw :(. I hate leaving bad reviews because they seem really mean, but I just wrote out a very long document in a complete state of flow. that's a positive, good UI facilitates flow. Unfortunately I didn't think to save, which is on me.. But it shouldn't be so easy to delete everything. I accidentally hit the wrong part of the screen and closed the document. Everything was gone. I wish there was a warning, or less surface area available to mess things up. The way it's set up now, it's effectively a live document surrounded by a delete button.

Crashes trying to open larger text files. I know it’s not common for a large text file, but this app can’t handle it. It’s so frustrating. I have a hosts file I need to edit, and this app can’t do anything I need it to. As soon as I try to open the hosts file, this app freezes and becomes unresponsive. You want people to pay $4 a month for this uselessness?!

Don’t bother. I downloaded this app yesterday to try out. Today it will not let me use it unless I agree to a 3 day free trial and then $.99 a month. Don’t say something is free and then block use unless the user signs up and provides credit card/payment information. Really sick and tired of this approach. If I keep and use something I pay the developer for his/her efforts. This may have been a great product, bummer.

99¢ a week isn’t breaking the bank but still. It’s been a long while since I’ve used this app but now I try to use it and I have to pay 99¢ a week to do something as simple as typing… thankfully there’s other apps out there now that are free and let you do that and even do RTF free. I’m not against paying, just not for something so simple. Charge for other features. The basics of the app shouldn’t be behind a paywall.

Good Review. This app is amazing, keeps me with my studies, work, and task I need to remember! If you haven’t downloaded this app I suggest you should. This is more easier took keep notes. Papers can get lost easily but or phone or tablet can’t get lost forever!

Garbage app. Tried to edit a text file on OneDrive. It let me open it, make edits, but there is no option to save the file, as far as i could find. I tried poking around a bit and quickly got blocked by a paywall. If you want me to pay for your app, at least make a functional trial long enough where I can verify it does what I want. All you did is succeed in getting me to delete the app and find something else. Well done.

Not so good. I am new to the iPad and was surprised to find there is no simple text editor (?!) I wanted to fix an error in a CSV file so I d/l this one. Total surprise #2: it is a subscription based payment plan that kicks after 3 days. Oooookay! Credit card required just to kick the tires? Ugh! But then, this goofy text editor could not even handle opening the file (much less copy + paste one line to fix the poorly written CSV). Oh well… it’s probably great for RTF stuff.

$52 annually to write text files. This app does not do anything unless you pay for their “premium” version. You can open and edit two files before it forces you to either pay up, or uninstall. Reading and writing are the two most basic features a text editor can have, not “premium” features. This is software that’s been around for literally decades, and putting a staggering $52 annual fee for the most basic of tools in this way is dishonest and absurdly expensive. I hope they either remove the premium lock or add features besides “dark mode” to make it an ACTUAL upgrade.

I tried to like it.... ...but really it wouldn’t even be usable if it had been free. My phone is set to dark mode so the application supports dark mode which seems like it would be nice. However, it cannot view and RTF document creates on the MacOS with editing the text colors of the same document. But then that document will not display correctly on the Mac. If the colors are set to undefined for backgrand and text the Mac will correctly set the background to black and the text to white when dark mode is on. However this application will set the background and the text to both black. So, I lost my money and moved on to a different application especially after no replay to my earlier review from the application owner.

Paywall. I’m not gonna lie I was pretty excited to get this and be able to edit some txt files however once I figured out I could only edit 3 before I would have to purchase a subscription is just a massive turn off. I understand that the company has to make a profit but I’m not paying a dollar weekly just to edit a couple files. Overall the quality seems great and it’s sad that I feel the need to write a negative review because this is a useful app with a purpose but since I would have to pay a subscription for editing a few files I don’t see this as a great investment for my time and money

Absurdly expensive & no transparency around price or length of trial period. With no warning, the app suddenly stops working until you pay $0.99 EVERY WEEK! That’s $52 a year for a simple text editor! The app seems to work well but that’s totally insane and the lack of transparency around the pricing and length of the trial period is dishonest.

Upgrade is mandatory. This is not made clear, but you can’t use the product unless you upgrade. They hype the upgrade as “use dark mode,” and have rich text, etc., but I didn’t want that. I just wanted a text editor. The assumption from how it’s described is that you can use the basic version without upgrading if you don’t want those features. Mmm, but no. After creating two rudimentary files, I couldn’t create a third unless I upgraded. Plus the first two now seem inaccessible.

Waste of Time. I downloaded this app in a pinch because I wanted to work with some .txt files that I already had. I was able to open one of them and edit it as I needed to. I chose to save but when I went to open the document it wouldn’t allow me to without subscribing to their “premium” offering. I did this so that I could access the file only to find that my changes had not been saved. This is the worst kind of app and I highly recommend choosing another for your text editor needs.

Can’t use unless you pay. So tired of these bait and switch trash apps. You can download the app but you can’t actually do anything with it unless you “upgrade to the free trial”. Can’t open, create, edit, nothing. Literally the first thing you do forces you to upgrade, and there are no other options. It’s also $0.99 EACH WEEK. $52/yr? Are you kidding? Don’t waste your time.

Not free!. Downloaded because I needed a simple editor to edit some .txt files in iCloud Drive. Thought I’d found the solution. But now, every time I open, it forces me to “claim” my “Free” text edit + upgrade. Which is free for 3 days only then a subscription. I don’t want any of the things the “upgrade” gets me (dark mode, removed ads, etc). I’m find with the free version. But the app is now useless, as I can’t edit ANY document without the “claim your (not) free upgrade” coming up again. There’s no “I don’t want that” choice. App is now useless to me unless I agree to a subscription for upgrade features I don’t want. Uninstalled.

Awesome. You can change the font sizes, you can get a true view experience as you do from vi or text pad with no word wrapping. I’m so amazed by this iPad text editor!!!

Dark mode NEEDS to be free. I understand you guys wanna make your money and rip people off for a simple tool but dark mode is an accessibility setting and locking it behind a pay wall is a complete jerk move to the people who need it to see their screen better. Also if you wanna make money so bad then run ads because charging a subscription for something that like dark mode while EVERY other app that has dark mode includes it for FREE.

Don’t use unless you buy!. I probably should have payed closer attention to the terms, but it really should be made more clear. If you write something on here without the premium version and then try to access it later you will be locked out of your paper! I wrote a whole paper for my class, and now I’m locked out of it; I’m screwed. I can’t help but feel like my paper is being held hostage, and unfortunately my bank account is empty, so I will miss my deadline for school thanks to this app.

Can’t use without trial upgrade. I got this on recommendation from Google. There’s a paid version called Text Editor+, but all I really needed was to read a few files. First couple opened with minimal fuss. Now I’m on the fourth file and the app refuses to let me open a file without signing up for me free, cancel-anytime trial of Text Editor+. This is just another scam by a subscription product to get you signed up some something that you then forget about and end up unconsciously paying $1/week for. Sure, I can afford the $1/week, but I’m deleting the app on principle now because of their extremely heavy-handed tactics.

Cross Application Usage. I like this app because when I enter something on my MacBook Air, I can find it and open it quickly on my iPad. That feature isn’t always as readily available with some other apps.

You Can't Be Serious!. The freely downloadable version of this app is identified as having "in app purchases". What that really means is that after working with just three files, you have to subscribe to do any more. I am not even slightly interested in software by subscription, no matter the price or how well it does the task it was designed to perform. I will be looking elsewhere for something that can be licensed in perpetuity and not by subscription. Also: popping up a message asking me to rate my experience with the software is nigh unto inexcusable. Doing so and then completely losing the state of what I was working on is squarely in the territory of Just Don't Ever. I rarely review apps owing to the rage inducing nature of the onscreen keyboard, but this one warrants an exception since a subscription for a text editor and interrupting my work to ask me how I like the application and messing up what I was doing in the process are all beyond the pale. Stay away...hopefully something better is out there.

Find function unusable, hangs. Got rid of this thing almost immediately. Tried to find a one word text string to get to where I wanted to edit. It initiated the search after one letter, guess what there were many thousands of hits. Then it got hung, I couldn’t cancel, the Done button was dead. What did work perfectly? The pop up saying the free version only allows 10 files per week. Guess we know where the dev’s priorities are. I’d happily pay if this thing actually worked. But it’s useless for longer files. Too bad, there’s a need for a tool like this.

Simple but perfect. Quick and simple text editor. Does one thing but does it well. Can’t ask for more than that

Unclear/Misleading App Description. UNLESS you subscribe, ZERO use is allowed, but the trial period and condition of use without subscription is NOT laid out. What is laid out only says “subscribe to enable dark more and unlimited tools” rather than what happens. No subscription means no access to any files you created during the free use of the tool that you were led to believe was forever unless you wanted the advanced tools. I’m not saying this was nefarious, but it seems the developer reads/writes english fine, so I’m just guessing it’s another attempt to strongarm subscriptions when you haven’t REALLY used the tool, but thought you could grow into it.

Nice 5 minute free trial. With a app name as generic as "text editor" you'd be pretty surprised to see a paywall show up after only FIVE minutes of tasks that you feel like you shouldn't need to download an app for. This thing better be one banger of a text editor if I'm being asked to pay for a mobile version of windows notepad. Just get the EasyEditText app instead. It's basically just a free version of this app.

Used for 5 minutes then had to buy. What a stupid app. I used it for 5 minutes then I was prompted to buy it to use it again. There’s no escape or way to get out of the stupid Lock Screen without closing the app entirely. Horrible business practice by a crappy company. I will say, in the 5 minutes I used it I liked what it offered. But its ridiculous to even download this app as it does nothing and then forces you to buy the paid app and subscribe.

Has so much potential. Love the layout and the ease of use. But it is just too glitchy to use. Some files cause the app to freeze and others the app will let you scroll a little bit then slam you back to the bottom. Or lock you in the center. If the fix these small issues it is a very good app

Wonderful for Direct Editing. Recently installed this app for BP editing on SFS, allows me to edit zipped app files directly without jailbreaking my 14 and voiding my warranty. 5 stars! Though I would appreciate a file search and open feature in the app, you can pop files out of the IOS "Files" app.

Exactly What I Was Looking For!. I love it! I am not tech savvy at all. I wanted a basic iOS word processing app that could easily be opened in other OS platforms. The user interface is perfect for my needs and it works flawlessly for my simple needs.

Useless unle$$ you pay. When I launched the app for the first time it presented me with a screen that gave me one option only: pay for a subscription. No other option – not even to try the app to see if it's useful for me or whether it functions at all. Between the deceitful design that makes it look like a free app when it has no free functionality at all and the abysmal reviews citing constant crashes and disappearing documents, it appears to me that the entire value in downloading this app is that it allows one to write a review like this, warning others off before they fall victim to this seemingly maliciously crafted software. I know *I'm* outta here...

Crashes the Files app. It crashes the Files app every time I click a text file. And when it crashes, it freezes the “Upgrade” (aka Give Us Money) message on the screen. I think that means they either did it deliberately or they don’t know how to program a quality app, doesn’t it? This app didn’t do anything close to editing text, for me.

Impossible to use for free. This app hides that you can’t open a 2nd file without being forced to give feedback via a non-closeable pop up. Upon the 3rd file being opened, the user gets a no -close able pop up that demands you start the “free trial of paid features” with no way to use the app until you accept their terms to run as a paid subscription of $52/year. Very deceptive, very expensive, and WAY too little value nor features when so many 100% free options exist. But … it was usable for the first 2 text files I opened.🤣

Expensive and doesn't save your work. Tried to edit a file on OneDrive. The interface is decent, about as good as the Files app, and it's easy to open a file (once you get past the pressure to subscribe), but when I closed the file you've edited, my edits were gone. File appears unmodified (modification timestamp doesn't change) - it's like I was never there. Then, while trying to refresh the screen and reopen the file, I guess I opened it too many times, so the app will only prompt me to subscribe. I'd prefer a non-subscription price, but can't even get to considering the price when it doesn't save my work.

Cannot access old files without paying a subscription. It looks like my trial for text editor ended, but I was surprised to found that I couldn’t access documents I’d already written in the past. While I understand that this may have been included in the terms somewhere, it really would have been nice if this was made clearer, or if TextEdit had stopped us from creating new documents and made the files read only. I hope I’m mistaken, and am happy to revise my rating if someone can explain how I can open my old files (and preferably copy/paste them into some other file). Edit: Nevermind, if you’ve saved the files on the iCloud you can open them. Not sure what the situation is if you haven’t saved them. Sorry for the confusion.

Breaks in a few days if you refuse to pay. Don’t bother with this offensive app. After the first few days, it will no longer open documents, it just goes to an upgrade page. It will let you upgrade to a paid subscription or exit the app, but it won’t let you open your existing docs with the free version. This isn’t an app, it’s a trap! Word to the authors: you have to actually give value in the free version; that’s what motivates people to upgrade.

Bait and switch: NOT Free, and insane subscription model. This app on its own is completely useless…you create a text file, then you can’t reopen it without getting (buying) the plus version!! Then, to top things off, the price is 99 cents PER WEEK!!! I hate the software subscription model to begin with, but to pay weekly for a flippin’ text editor is ridiculous. At vest this would be a one-time $3-$5 app. And: if you look at the In-App Purchases list in the App Store, it simply states “Text Editor+ $.99”, but neglects to mention that it’s per week. Apple has to prevent these developer tricks and encourage transparency. Kudos on the no-tracking of personal info. Too bad everything else you do is suspect. Congrats, guys: a new low in scamming people.

Don’t download. $1.50 a week to have a usable app after the first couple of edits. NFG at all.

It appears free but is not. You’ll be able to use it once or twice, then will need to pay to continue. The price should be clearer in the description.

Disgusting pricing model. This would be a good app but it locks you out after editing 2 or 3 files. Then wants you to subscribe for $1.49 PER WEEK utterly disgusting. I’d be happy to pay a one off price for it. But subscription model apps like this all deserve 1 star.

bruh. it should work fine but i use it once and everything is locked under a paywall

Not free editor. Demand that you subscribe in order to use.

Locks you out after editing a file. All I needed was a basic text editor, and so I just downloaded this one. I needed to edit some server configuration files, so I did that the first time and it worked just fine. Then I had to re-edit it later and it actually locks you out if you want to edit a file again, and the only way to continue using this editor is to pay for their subscription model. If this app was just like “Hey, I’m $2” I would’ve bought it. Tricking you into thinking its a free application when its really not at all, that’s some next level bs that I’m very unhappy with. I feel very thankful that in this case, those server files I needed were just Minecraft ones. But I use my device for work and sometimes, without access to the internet. I hate to imagine the level of fury I would’ve felt had I needed a text editor for work and it locked me out. Please find an alternative to this app and don’t let it waste your time.

absolutely incredible. sick ui, and very easy to use

Paywall. Just wanted to read a text file. I open it ONCE and the only thing I'm allowed to do is click the upgrade button before anything else

Good app. It’s a good app, but onc eyou start writing enough, the text will be blocked by the keyboard which is kind of annoying.

I don’t know how do you use it. It’s good, but it was hard

Pay pay pay. Crap. Could not even print my small test.

Garbage. Total waste of time

Not free. Tap + to create a file, enter the file name and you'll get prompted to upgrade. Completely misleading, it's not a free text editor.

Garbage.. Stopped working free. Says upgrade for extra features and no ads. But can’t use it at all.

Bait and switch.. This app used to be good, now won’t do anything, just leaves you stuck on an upgrade screen. Too bad was good for occasional use but too expensive.

Not actually free. It is deceptive to call an app a “text editor”, offer it for free, but not allow you to edit text for free. This app is a lie. They should be forced to advertise it at the actual price.

Useless unless you subscribe. The subscription comes to more than $50 a year- terrible value.

LOL 4 dollars a month. Waste of space and time.

As soon as I said I liked it, it stopped working. Telling me I can use Free Text Editor + but it’s actually paid

Edits 3 files, then wants you to pay $1.50 EVERY WEEK.. Seriously?! Apple should have put a basic text editor in the Files app.

Doesn’t deserve the search position it has in the App Store. You will only be able to add/edit/view files a couple of times. After, the app will become view locked by a pop up modal requiring you to subscribe without even listing the features you would be subscribing for. Don’t get corralled into making a convenience subscription purchase because you already downloaded the app. Just download a lower ranked app or better change your search to “code editor”

Very buggy. The very first document I created crashed the app when I hit “save”. When I went back to it, the document was empty. Underlining makes text invisible, not underlined. Really unreliable, and definitely not worth a _weekly_ subscription of $1.29

Stops you from using it for free. After opening and editing a few documents over a few days it prompts you to pay $1 a week.

Reading position. Loses reading position every time you switch away from the app

Scam: concealed real category. this is NOT a free software. It's subscription based from the get go.

Just an ad for paid version. Literally cannot do anything without purchase. For text. What a joke.

Allowed to use it once before the only option was to upgrade. I opened the app once and played with the different features and settings to see what it offered and I could do. I then tried opening it a bit later on and now my only option is to tap an upgrade button. No other option allowed and can’t do anything else except tap the upgrade button! So this is a try once and then pay for it app!!!

I just started using it... how am I suppose to know how good it is.. Hhhbh Bobbggggvggggv

NOT FREE. Didn’t even get to use the app before it asks for a subscription fee. Coo coo coo. 👎

Not needed. I prefer MS words or Apple Pages.

A subscription for a basic text editor?. Are you kidding me?

Exactly what is needed for a text editor. Easy integration with cloud services. This app is able to easily open files on iPad and has all essentials.

Stop Charging me money every button I press. All I needed was a simple text editor but this only asks for money almost every time you try to open a text file. I made a text file and tried to open it. Nah you gotta pay to open this normal .txt file. App not worth it. Get an app that doesn't ask for money every second.

Ridiculous.. Multiple pop ups urging the user to pay $50 a year for a simple text editor. So glad I deleted it.

So far so good.... I only just started using this app so a review is premature but it asked for one so...I like it so far! I’m glad I downloaded it and can tell that I’ll be using it often.

Only one thing. I would drop 5 stars if there was an option to horizontally scroll text so it doesn’t all pile up on top of each-other vertically. Otherwise, this would be the perfect HTML editor for iOS.

Doesn’t Work Without A Subscription. I got this for editing files on another PC on the same WiFi network. While it would allow me to see those files, it wouldn’t allow me to edit them without a subscription.

I didn’t think it deserves a 1-star rating, but it won’t let me rate it zero.. This represents the worst of the app store devs— it requires a 99-cent weekly subscription just to do its basic function, text editing. Zero stars.

Scam. As soon as the app 'Text Editor' is opened, a dialog box is presented, with the words: "Claim your free" "Text Editor+" "and unlock all features" With an "Upgrade Now" button below that There is no way out of that dialog box except to force quit the app. OR press "Upgrade Now" If you do press "Upgrade Now" you are presented with: "Start your 3 days trial" "Then $0.99/week. Cancel anytime." (i.e. $52 PER **YEAR**) and a SUBSCRIBE NOW button below that "WE'RE GOING TO BE ROLLING IN DOUGH, MARGE!!" If that's an example of the author's skills, one can only imagine how light his programming acumen is, and hence the probable worthiness of his 'app'.

Why doesn’t it say In App Purchase!. The app requires an in app purchase after three uses. Even better, it’s so buggy with a long list that that cursor stutters and shows three lines above or below where you’re actually editing. When you close and reopen the file to get around this, well, that counts as a use No thanks. Delete.

Can't open everything and quite expensive. Expensive: 1$ per week means 50 per year. Limited: I have a plain text file with an unusual extension (sql) imported via Airdrop. The app doesn't let me open it.

This text editor will cost you $52 dollars per year.... This text editor will cost you $52 dollars per year...

A subscription?? Are you kidding me or kidding yourself?. Every developer these days seems to feel they are entitled to a constant stream of revenue from even the most basic of apps. With hundreds of free or cheap writing apps out there, I cannot help but wonder whether the developer is even aware that their ambition is delusional.

Not perfect but quite good. My only complaint so far is please add basic search and replace ! Otherwise well done

Awesome app but. I really like this app it is a good app but here is the thing there is a optional subscription with a weekly bills which are not good I dont really like bills that are weekly I recommend $5/month bills but it is a great app overall

Does what it says.. You get txt, which pages doesn’t have, but you can export to pdf and ePub so i dont understand

Scam and blackmail. Don’t use it, after you text something and save, you can’t see that document again only if you buy their text editor, also you can’t open second time, hope somebody remove this scam app from store, thanks.

No free version. Text Editor+ ads become more persistent as I use this program. Later the day I downloaded this I couldn’t open anything because it insists I subscribe to Text Editor+. It may offer a free three day trial if you subscribe to pay afterwards but there seems to be no Text Editor app here without Text Editor+

LOVE THIS APP. I love this app. Easy to use and does just what I need it to do. Thank you so very much for an app that I can afford without taking out a second mortgage.

Useless. Let’s you write for a few minutes then doesn’t allow you to use app without a subscription of $1 a week.. I don’t need the plus features such as dark mode. Why call it plus if the basic features are not available with out a subscription?

TextEdit "At Last" on iOS. I have been waiting. I have been begging. At last, apple has brought TextEdit to the iOS world. 99% of the time that's all I need in a text editor.

Garbage. Won't allow access to file 2 minutes first use. This app was recommended along with a nanny cam, but it will not allow me to even access the first file I tried, only bringing up an upgrade screen for a fee.

Small quick App. Love the app. Have used it on my desktop Mac for years. Thrilled to find it for my iPhone. Hoping I can use it on my older iPad. Thanks.

Oh my gosh. This is the worst app you can get because at first it was cool for the first paper then I wanted to make a new one then boom I have to pay for it and I’m not paying for an app that’s not going to work. So I wouldn’t recommend this app but other than that it was ok

Must have for anyone!. Awesome this app let me freely create and edit any file on my iPad just like on my computer.

Annoying prompt to upgrade. The “upgrade” sign appear everything time i want to edit a file. The way it’s advertised makes it seem as though you only need the upgraded version to access premium features like dark mode, not the most basic features.

Reads and Edits Great. Just what I was looking for. This app is able to read and edit all the txt and rtf files I have lying around in my Files App without my having to hunt for something that will do so without changing the format.

A Crappy Paywall. After opening 3 files you get prompted a weekly subscription. I know that it's just a dollar, but to open a txt file. It should cost you nothing like it always has. Don't let yourself get ripped off by this and find another app.

Cannot read existing text files from google drive. As the title says, the app does not open text files (.txt) that were created elsewhere and stored in Google drive. It can create new ones and even ones created in other text editors in an iPad. It’s not a great solution to edit files that will modified in different applications/devices

A subscription for basic text edit functions is insane.. I might even be willing to pay once and own it but a subscription doesn’t make sense. Especially when there are other text editors that are more powerful and free.

Review. I like how it's smooth and modern, but it feels so limited to do anything, I tried renaming a file but when I click to rename it deleted itself and there was a weird google drive file left it told me had to buy a text editor + to open it.

Like the App, Dislike the Lorem Ipsum, Hate the Support. Everytime I select a new document, a browser full of Lorem Ipsum fills the page. Yep, you must delete before you can add. This App has tremendous capabilities, but is hamstrung by a stupid speed bump. What I hate is their support people ignoring me. No comments, no answers, nada, zip zilch. Sad.

$52/year!!. This is REALLY not a good enough app to be charging $52/year for the most basic of text editors. It makes it seem like you can use it for free, but that’s not the case. After a couple days, they charge you $1/week to even open a file. Major rip-off!!

Allows me to create a file but not open it. This is a scam app. I created a file. Now the app won’t let me access it without subscribing for a monthly fee. I’m sure this was not mentioned before, but most important, they now have data in my files that they won’t let me delete. This is a breach of trust.

Forces a sign up subscription before trial. Wants something from me before I can even try it. This business has it backwards.

Not a real text editor. Why isn’t this a real text editor? $1/week subscription. Subscription apps aren’t real, they’re just scams to charge lots of money and never improve. A real app releases enough features that you *want* to give your money.

Competent editor, annoying dark patterns. The editor is fine, but the constant barrage of subscription spam and request for ratings is annoying. It’s so bad that if you don’t agree to use Text Editor+ (the subscription service), you can no longer navigate through the app. Use something else that respects its users.

Deceitful paywall, subscription sales model, waste of your time. I’d happily pay (once) for this app, but the developer is out his mind for thinking a subscription sales model is appropriate for a text editor. You’re not providing a continuous service. The app is not feasible for routine use if you do not pay for the insane subscription.

Basic text editing for iphone. It works! Accessed txt files on Dropbox edited, saved and closed. That’s what it is supposed to do.

TY. I love writing my own story and this is something I can finally do with this app and I can set reminders. But the best part is that there are no advertisements 😁please try this

App blackmails you. Free app only good for certain number of days, after that it didn’t allow me to even read the text files I created. It makes you hostage and only option it provides is to buy the paid version. AVOID unless you want to be blackmailed later!

Simple. Edlin reborn. Write & save a txt file. Line numbers. Everything I needed in a text editor. Now how do I suppress spell check?

Incredibly straight forward. Great app. I recommend it.

Have to pay to edit any native text files. I can understand having to pay for an actual additional feature. But when a TEXT EDITOR app named TEXT EDITOR that was downloaded specifically for its ability to EDIT TEXT only lets you EDIT TEXT files as a paid added feature, it seems kinda crappy.

99¢ a week = $52 a year. Do I really need to explain how ridiculous and grimes this price point is? I really feel bad for people that feel forced into this app. Thank you so much for offering a 3 day trial though! I’ll make sure to set my calendar so I don’t forget to turn it off right after my 3 month trial for Adobe Illustrator!

Nice, but cannot directly edit in OneDrive. In onedrive, there is only a copy to TextEdit option, and from there you have to share it to onedrive, which means it saves a copy. There should be a way to simply open it in onedrive, edit it, save it, done, and have onedrive contain one, edited, file, with no chicanery.

Easy to use and also powerful!. This is just agreed text editor I highly recommend it to anyone that likes to take notes on the fly.

🤙. Worth the $.99 and recommend advancing to an assembled application with advertised feature.

Hands down best Text Editor. Simple, compatible, and reliable.

$52 a year? Forget it. All I need is a simple editor. I don’t mind paying a “cup of coffee” fee one time for this kind of app. But .99/ week for a subscription for an app that I need to use for 2x / mo max? Big Nope from me.

Super simple but I wish it wasn’t weekly fee. Super simple, it does what it’s supposed to but I do not like the $.99 a week fee. I would rather it be monthly or even a yearly subscription. For that reason I’ve canceled my subscription.
