AudioKit Synth One Synthesizer Comments & Reviews 2026
A brilliant gift to the iOS Music Production community. I often think back to when I first began recording because of the excitement of discovery was ever present. It was the mid-90’s so it was still Tascam cassette PortaStudio’s and outboard effects, nothing like the tech of today. When I discovered iOS music production I felt that sense of discovery again, and it hasn’t waned three years in now. I use iOS exclusively in my home recording/songwriting studio; my laptop & ProTools set up put in storage. I have 271 apps on my iPad Air 2, 43 of them non-music related. I have all the major iOS synths, AuriaPro, Cubasis and BeatMaker 3, 15 Drum machine apps, all the guitar amp sims...you get the point. So I admit my first thoughts when I heard of AudioKits synth project were “I have enough synths”. Well free is free, better than punch in the eye, so I got Synth One day one... It is incredibly cool. The sheer amount of different synthesis styles that can be wrangled out of it is amazing. The effects are super clean, the arp/sequence feature is super deep and the ingenious page switching feature makes every control easily accessible. I put the top panel on the main Osc page and then cycle through the others on the bottom panel. It is very slick. I can’t wait for the AUv3 and further development from AudioKit. FM Player should’ve hipped me to the fact this would be incredible. No question about it, every musician who uses iOS for guitar tuning all the way to full productions needs this in their toolbox. Exceptional work by a team who did this out of the sheer love of music. Highly recommended.
Absolutely fantastic!. I’m an enthusiastic user of hardware synths in a keyboard-based studio. Pair this thing up with a midi controller and it holds its own to my Kronos, Motif, Montage, etc. in the synth department. Loads of patches that inspire on their own, and infinitely and easily programmable on my iPad, I just love this thing. Do yourself a favor and spend the money for their latest release Digital D1. It supports this project, and it’s the perfect companion to Synth One. To the developers: A heartfelt thank you for this iOS synth that is such a powerful tool to add to my portable studio. This thing is for real. This is the most exciting thing I’ve added to my rig in a long time. Keep up the good work!
“Midi Learn” is incredible. So many great things about this synth. Gotta shout out the Midi Learn feature. As a midi and soft synth noob, i was able to hook up my irig keys pro2 and start twisting the knobs and assigning them right out of the box. So many great presets that already sound great. Love the basic waves you can start with as well. Im building patches and learning. So much fun. Only criticism is that the sound drives my iPhone so hard that the processor cant cope and I get major crackling when I push a patch hard. Could just be time to upgrade my phone though. Cant hate the app for being so powerful. Thank You!!!!!
Appreciate synths more!. I honestly never really worked with synth modules of any kind. I would use a preset to play along with a piano or Rhodes or something. When I heard about this app, I said “why not. It’s free.” I love it so far. I haven’t been able to use it live yet (I’m a musician), but man it makes experiment more than I ever did before. I’m more interested in the bass I can get out of this. Although there are presets that come with the app, I played around and ended up saving presets of my own! Once again, I have yet to use it live. I also haven’t tried a midi controller yet (my connection kit has been ordered; I have an iPad Air 2). Let's hope the 5 star railing stays lol
This is not great, this is extraordinary. I randomly downloaded this app. I’m a professional music composer and producer who’s been in the business for over three decades. I’ve owned most major hardware Synthesizers from Arp, Sequential, Moog, Korg, Roland, etc. I have most every software synth. The AudioKit Synth One is a masterpiece. It’s like rediscovering the joy of synthesis, of electronic music, and improvisation all over again. To be able to sit with my phone in my hand and a pair of headphones and endlessly switch programs and just play is such an extraordinary joy. This sounds, these programs, these combinations, these arpeggios are not consumer grade toys. These are professional, inspiring, ethereal level tools, an inspirational artist palette that trigger the imagination in ways that very few synthesizers do. I applaud you for bringing this extraordinary piece of technology into the universe, and putting it in everyone’s hands free of charge. Thank you thank you thank you.
What an amazing gift this is. We were looking for a cool iOS synth to give to our child to help him broaden his interest and explore his talent in music, and along came AudioKit Synth One. It’s free, open-source, and truly an amazing gift from this team of talented individuals to musicians everywhere. Best of all, because it is open-source, it will only get better. Our joy comes from knowing he’ll be able to create music right away, and that greater details and capabilities of the App lie just under the surface, waiting for him to explore and utilize them. Many warm thanks to the Developers. We are grateful for your selfless gift.
Very Good for Beginners and Professionals Alike if You’re looking for Some Practice. I feel that this synth would be a very good start for music producers just getting into sound design or would like to know where to start when it comes to sound design on their journey. It’s very easy to understand and the guide will give some helpful tips when using the app and when applying that knowledge to other areas of sound designing. I would recommend this to any producer who would like to know where’s the best place to start when it comes to sound design since like other users said it’s very user friendly 🙂
This app is AWSOME!!!. It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but I can’t believe how amazing it is! 😄And for free? Created by volunteers? That’s awesome you guys! If I could make a request it would be for better control of the hold note melody. Like if we could change the time signature so it will sound different? I love that I learn by just playing with the app! Hopefully the loops I’ve made transfer to Piapro studio, I’ll find out. I have similar functions in that studio but it’s hard to manipulate keys on a laptop. But this is fantastic, truly an asset! I still have a lot of exploring to do! I’ll write more reviews as time goes on. But this is truly a gem of an app! Thank you so very much for all of your hard work! I’ll be sure to recommend it to my friends! 😁 I can’t say it enough! This app is awesome and I really appreciate all of your hard work!
Amazing virtual synth, it's free, and aside from one issue - it's perfect.. As far as virtual synths go, Audiokits Synth One is by far a shining example of what's now possible to achieve solely on the device in your pocket. Comparable to physical hardware synths and it's engine seemingly just as powerful. In all ways this is an amazing achievement and a versatile weapon in any musicians arsenal, albeit for me the fact that it's not available as an AU3 plugin makes it less convenient, as my workflow typically involves using a separate DAW app and loading my synths/instruments via AU3, and while I know Audiobus/IAA is available, it's just not something I prefer using. I assume the issue may boil down to iOS resources as I'm sure a synth of this magnitude requires a lot of memory to run and that possibly could cause crashes when loading into a DAW, but otherwise I hope to see it one day and kudos to the devs.
Powerful, gorgeous sounding synth for a wonderful cause!. With the arrival of this synth app I feel as though iOS has finally reached a level where the instruments on my tablet are just as valid, powerful and great sounding as my actual hardware gear. Between the ODYSSEi, the Models D/15, Kauldron and now the AudioKit Synth One, it’s obvious that our phones and tablets are not to be taken lightly as an option for creative music endeavors. That’s not to even mention the midi capabilities, Ableton Link and other utilities that have been developed as this new frontier of electronic music continues to grow. Just think what machine learning will be able to contribute in the not-too-distant future! The fact that this was free is such a wonderful blessing for the world! I was confused after I opened the app and began to noodle with the synth engine - it sounded way too good and had too much processing functionality to be free! Then I watched the intro video... wow! As far as I’m concerned Matthew Fecher is the patron saint of public music education! Thank you so much to everyone who was/is/will be involved with this project! You’ve inspired me to learn coding and work on developing my own functions to enhance the Synth One!
This eventually ,..became my favorite, from Audio Kit .. It has just enough of,….a little bit of each Paged Effect Functions which make all youre devices Shine apart ,..the Deep and Killer REVERB like no other ,..I always wished I could have a pedal so I could run my guitar through that excellent R-Verb ,…you all did create the REVERB APP HOWEVER ,…AND DANG IT I JUst ,… REALIZED ,…IVE NEVER DOWNLOADED IT AND RUN MY FIDDLE OF Def & Distortion,….through it into A good DAW,…keep creating , Talent in the Music Biz is rare and Tainted with Cheap Tricks ,…hey now I gotta listen to them ,..that was a psychic , related EDUCATED WISH ….,!!!
Love these apps!. All the apps by AudioKit are amazing! I just love the sounds they’ve recreated! They were alright in the beginning, but as they’ve developed and added new features and sounds, they’ve become indispensable in my music! I’d be glad to pay money for these apps, but it’s crazy how they’re free! I notice I’m using a lot of explanation marks lol but these apps are just so good! My only issue so far is that when I’m using it with GarageBand, it seems to forget that I have the apps installed on my iPad. I don’t know if it’s an issue with my budget iPad, or GarageBand, but it’s a little annoying. Other than that, these apps are incredible!
Crashes with Audiobus 3. The app is great. I live all the sounds and customization I can do with Synth One. However, I can only link Synth One to Audiobus 3 as a audio source and not a midi source. When everI try and connect my keyboard as a midi controller to Audiobus 3 and then link it to Synth One, the app launches and then crashes and can not reconnect. I can only use Synth One in Audiobus 3 as an audio source. Then it works. This unfortunately won’t allow you to use midi splitter to split the keyboard with two different synth apps. This is a great negative for any live or recorded performance. All of Audio Kits synth apps like Digitalism 2000, work fine in Audiobus 3 when linked with a midi input. Just not Synth One. Audio Kit, please fix and I will give a 5 star rating.
My review:. Very good app, nice sound and quite complex, it took me some time to figure out how the sequencer worked (maybe add a “help” button or tutorial in-app). Also the hold doesn’t work with the MIDI, so if I turn on hold and press a key on an external keyboard it won’t play, or play in weird ways, and if you poke the hold button on screen the same thing happens. In other words the Hold function only works when you’re not using an external keyboard with a sustain pedal. Also a thing where you could play notes and have the sequencer record them as a sequence would be cool.
Inspirational. I do not write reviews much, but I had to for this one, because I’m so incredibly grateful and happy to the depths of my heart that this was created for people like me who can’t afford apps like this, and it’s so incredibly diverse, an in-depth and amazing to the point I am going to be grateful to you guys for the rest of my life and I will never forget you hopefully one day we can work together that would be awesome!! I am a beginner but that’s where it starts right!! I will grow to my fullest capacity with this amazing app, and the amazing people who made it!
Please add DOTTED-8th-NOTE to Delay's Tempo Sync. This thing is almost there... So good and so fun! The one missing "feature of a feature" that I feel is quite common, even on stomp-box delays and in various music apps is a setting for a dotted eighth note delay time (an 8th plus a 16th note). This would allow much easier creation of rhythmic effects on a 16th-note pulse that are the backbone of tracks from Pink Floyd (ABITW Pt. 1 and lots more, on The Wall and after) to Kraftwerk & The Orb all the way up to Deadmau5, LCD Soundsystem and lots of modern trap, house, hip-hop, jungle, w. coast bass, techno, and other genres. Right now the app has all the triplets, which is cool, but not the same thing as the dotted effect. Synth One could consider adding it for 16th and/or 1/4 note intervals but they're less important. Your users will get a lot of mileage with just dotted-Eighth making a 16th-note rhythm unless they are tempo extremists. =) One can come close, setting delay time without using Tempo Sync, but the control is honestly jumpy and hard to finesse, and if you change the synth global tempo, it's wrong again. I humbly offer the last otherwise well-deserved star on this review in return. (It's open source; I suppose I should just learn how it all works and add it myself LOL.)
I highly recommend this app to everyone.. I just watched the video for the starting of this app and it’s creators vision and I must say that we need more people like this in the world 🌎 I will never forget the message behind this app and it’s creator and everyone else who’s heart ♥️ is as big as His. Much love 💗 and many blessings to everyone who contributed and contributes in the future and I highly recommend everyone to watch their video message and mission of creative ideas and sharing ideas and creative ideas for the future. Thank you 😊 I appreciate you sharing this wonderful Synth with us all.☮️💜😃🙏⭐️🙏♾🧘♀️🧘♂️🕉⚛️
I've used Synth One for 3 years and.... There is a seriously giant amount of things you can do with this app, and until you get to the most extreme levels of mathemusic and such, so long as you have creativity you can recreate absolutely any sound at all. The onlymthing you can't do is arrange the phases and magnitudes of a harmonic series, but if they added that (please?) then you could ACTUALLY do anything! There are so many "glitches", techniques, and combinations of things that in just the right way work perfectly. It has the most responsive, intuitive, and ingrainable digital keyboard setup I have ever used in my life. For a while I kept trying to find various different synths thinking that surely the "big guys" must have something worth selling but- no! Synth One is an absolutely incredible marvel of an iOS app and now I'm more grateful for it than ever. This app, free, is more capable than many things which cost dozens, hundreds of dollars. I spend hours straight some days just playing the living daylights out of it; it feels not like an app but an INSTRUMENT, one you could bring to an orchestra, connect it to a loudspeaker, and, backed by maybe some philosophical justification, not get laughed at for using. I use Synth One to test out microtonal scales (it is the only one on the appstore that supports them!), to make music and beats and record them, even to achieve spiritual enlightenment. There is NO better music or synth app on the appstore!!! Like i said tho before, there are just a couple things id like: the ability to construct an arbitrary frequency spectrum to use in the synth, and maybe the ability to construct microtonal scales inside the app (even just a list of ratios would be good enough). I would be incredibly grateful if those were added! But even as it is, this app is LITERALLY A MUSTHAVE. Its completely free i promise, not in a single day of my using it have I ever had to "buy" anything or spend money to get features. I LOVE YOU SYNTH ONE!!!
Fantastic. I’ve always loved instruments. I especially love the synthesizer. This is not just an app. It’s a full blown synthesizer. Might be on an IPad, but hook it up to a keyboard and an amp and you have a synthesizer. Totally worth downloading. If I could give it a 10 I would. Thank to you guys who came together and made a true masterpiece of an app. And hey you don’t buy anything, or have to watch videos. I mean everything about this app is beautifully and perfectly done. Don’t have the money for for a synthesizer, well here you go. Thanks CDM
Life after Synth one.. This app is a must have. I have forwarded this app to all my musician friends. And Ive been teaching non musicians to make music and therefore become musicians. I actually use this app every day. I’m exporting audio on the regular and using it with all my other music making endeavors. That includes using the iPad as an caustic style instrument. I use it at a synth module in my studio And i often import files I made on the subway to protools and everything between in the iOS world. Is there anything else.. well yah its actually endless. But I’ll stop now because I need to open my AKS1 and put up a drone tuned to my Ora and meditate. Peace!
5stars it takes a huge good to git top. This app definitely deserves five stars one it really is free to it is what it says three well the controls the interface how smoothly it runs and it literally as I said does what it says I can plug it in is it is a medium but I can use it as a direct sound input I can use it all by itself. Oh guess what it’s free and that’s what it says whenever you ever got that app that is not full of junk and just tricks you to download it so you can pay for what it doesn’t do....??? Thank you AUDIOKIT and everyone who put it together... I have never or rarely give five stars because I’ve stars is the top you can get which means you are the best of the best what I have to say that through I search of sense media and put in any other way to help produce my mediocre talent have music this is definitely the way to go
Amazing. Big shout out to the team behind this project. Beyond being an amazing piece of synth software rivaling pro products with high price points, it is also an incredible act of generosity, making the world of music available to all. A wonderful reminder that there are gauges of success and wealth that transcend the metrics of monetary reward. Gifting this power to all the world to explore and create with this virtually unlimited tool is the mark of the type of success cultures should celebrate and individuals should aspire to emulate. Sharing the gift of music can change the world.
Amazing app for samples. This app is amazing for producers who need new samples on their beats. I would highly recommend it. The save import into any DAW easily and is easy to use. You can also customize many of the standard sounds that you get on this app and adjust there length in reverb, pitch, echo and so many more things. there are hundreds of free samples that are on this app and it makes creativity endless. From any genre like EDM to Rap, you can find something that will definitely fit your style. Go check this app out I highly recommend it. From, Lil Nucleus
It has a poor palette of sounds. After playing on its own onscreen keyboard, I can say that the interface fails badly. The keys are either too small or too large, in the option of dark mode you can’t see the keyboard at all, the notes played cuts or don’t sound at times. Better make a onscreen keyboard like it is on Sunrizer synth or better yet on Bismarck bs16i. I think the synth engine is good for create new sounds. But the presets you included are pretty the same each other, slow and nothing to wow about. Maybe the arpeggiator has something good but I don’t use that in my music. I feel this synth was exclusively created toward some kind of music, maybe reggaetón or hip hop and may not work with all kinds of music. I play electronic rock but I prefer Poison-202 or Sunrizer on the iPad. I hope this sincere review will help you to excel your project
Incredible!! One of the best synth apps for iOS to date!. Amazing app! Extraordinarily easy to use, fantastic sounding patches, and free! When I first downloaded the app and was asked for my email address to unlock additional patches, I used the address for my throwaway account. Once I started using the app, I was so impressed with the ease-of-use and quality of patches, that I deleted the app and re-downloaded it just so I could use my primary email address for notification of any application updates. I’ve downloaded most of the mid- to high-end synth apps for iOS (free and paid) over the years and this one easily rates within my top five overall and is my current favorite. Each time I launch this app, I experiment with new patches and I’m still awestruck with how amazing they all sound. The only thing that I would ask of the developers is please, Please, PLEASE port this to macOS and consider making a pro version for both platforms. I would buy them without hesitation!
Awesome. I have to say, I have owned many hardware synths from Kronos to M1 to Motifs,Kurzweil. Ensoniqs(showing my age with that one lol). I open your app and am completely blown away with the level of depth and movement in some of your patches and tweak able options. I also on your paid app ,just another level together. Never thought years ago I could this quality of sound on an iPad or iPhone that sits in my lap. You guys truly love you work. I have never written a review but after reading your updates notes and listening, using your latest version...all I can say is AWESOME. Your other apps...what can I say, Just as good ...my only complaint is a persistent battery drain on my 2018 iPad Pro that would run in the background ...even if you had global background turned off. Had to go on global and specifically go into the background setting of fm player and turn it off. Trust nothing major. Have a DX on a tablet is; awesome. Can’t wait for full AU3 integration. Again keep it going and keep inspiring us to create music !
Great for solidifying ideas on the fly. Everyone knows that a great song idea needs to be written down, or it’s gone forever. This has helped me create and fine tune my ideas. It’s especially helpful when I don’t have my DAW readily accessible. This synthesizer is top notch. Industry grade controls and sounds right on your phone. Thank you for this app and thank you for making it free. One ability I wish this app had would be a drum machine. Like a launchpad that took up your whole screen so you could play leads and basses within a scale without fat fingering the keyboard. That would be sick. Regardless, still a phenomenal app!
Fantastic. I’m fairly new to iOS but have been using an EWIusb for several years with pc. When I switched to iOS I expected to and was willing to pay a lot for a good synth. Well to my surprise the best on in my opinion is free. The things that I like about AuioKit synth one are it’s layout is easy to understand, it’s intuitive and I was quickly able to adapt it to my needs. The thing that I won’t say don’t like as much as don’t understand fully is how the LFO works because I’m used to a certain type of matrix. With all the available presets I found ones that come closest to the sound I require and the ability to have a user bank and favs was really the seal on the deal. It works flawlessly with my EWI and my BlueBoard. I think I love this synth😏
Better than every other synth app. This synth is better than any of the pay apps I have tried. Aside from the excellent interface the sonic sound quality is better and more alive sounding than most of my virtual synths. The range of the analog development makes it feel like you are working on an old Roland 700 or ESM Systems. The output is clean “fat” without getting muddy or stuttering from latency. The clock speed is solid. I found it works best with a controller that has lots of buttons, slides and knobs. I’m testing a composition using just this synth as my only sound source. My initial reaction is “wow, color me impressed,”
It’s rated so highly for a reason. There isn’t much that I can say about this incredible app that hasn’t already been said (more eloquently as well) by other reviewers, so I’ll keep it brief. Synth One is an absolute *must have* for anyone who is even toying around with the idea of making music on your iPad or iPhone. Seriously, you can’t find this kind of well-designed UI, incredible presets and precision control in apps that charge $20, 30+ or even a monthly subscription fee. The fact that this app is FREE and OPEN SOURCE is incredible, and it is one of my go-to examples that I use whenever I am mentioning to someone about how the best products, services, applications etc. in the open source world are those which are built by people who truly love what they are creating. The people who worked to bring us this amazing app are genuine lovers of music and you can tell how much effort and intent went into every part of the end product from the moment you fire it up on your device. Don’t hesitate to download this, just do it.
Excellent Synth Suite. I wanted a synthesizer app to play with some original songs. Wasn’t looking for anything too complicated, just something to do a sequence or two on. I thought I’d check it out before I went to bed. Two hours later and I was still finding things to tweak and play with. There are an insane amount of options, so it’s really impressive how user-friendly the interface is. The fact that it’s open-source let’s you know that it was created for its functionality, not to turn a buck with an iffy app. I’d recommend it to anyone, and I recommended it to other musicians whenever music apps are brought up. Thank you for giving me a way to experiment/learn with a feature-heavy synthesizer without having to sacrifice a lot of money or space.

Feature request. Hats off to the dev and audio team behind this amazing app. This is truly a well put together app and I can tell a lot of thought was put into this. Also, thanks for making it free!! Now to my feature request. Obviously I could hook this up to a usb/midi keyboard, but what would be really cool for those times I’m on the go is if the keys would map to the Apple Smart Keyboard. That would be amazing. The touch screen works flawlessly, but for that added accuracy of having a button to press this would take the portability to the next level. That is all. Thanks for creating such an awesome app!
One of the best. This synth has a very large range of sounds and it can go from dirty to clean, atmospheric to percussive. The feature set reminds me of the expensive Korg apps. It has a great sounding engine and the fx are all usable. The reverb isnt too metallic like many others imo. The two kaoss style pads are an awesome extra for a free app, or ANY app for that matter. The filter is warm and smooth, LFOs can go from slow to crazy. Envelopes are also mainly very smooth even with fast attack and long decay, etc, no click but good punch for drums. The arp and sequencer are the kicker, just so good and very intuitive, wish every synth had a similar feature. I cant say enough, this is a “go to” for so many uses I couldnt live without it. If you like this app try D1 and FM Player by the same dev. Only con is the obvious, AUv3. The documentation could be a bit deeper but I feel that way about most apps and this one is actually pretty good.
Speechless. This is a masterpiece. I say “this”, because what do you label or call something that transcends an app, or software?. It’s more. I’m not saying it’s a sentient being here to change the face of musical mediums as we know it, im saying that once you’ve ran the gambit of apps and plug-ins and beat makers and midi mapping monstrosity’s this feels like a breath of air after holding it through what seems like an eternity of sub par Mickey Mouse music programs crop dustings! LoL I’ll stop, but for real, hats off to the developers, contributors, testers, and everyone who agrees.
Fantastic app. Having no background in audio engineering or synthesis, I feel able to play with just a small subset of tools the pros use. This is a great app for exploring different waveforms, sounds, and just fiddling for awhile. There are a couple bugs (mostly spotted on the iPhone) - Switching filters stopped working when HOLD is applied on the main board. Playback is muted until the app is closed and reopened. - the app crashes when oscillators 1 or 2 are frequently adjusted while the arpeggiator is on - The waveform adjustment buttons on the main board have misshappen touch areas on the iPhone. Maybe i havent learned how to use them, but: - The Glide dial doesnt appear to have any effect. - The Legato button doesnt appear to have any effect. Feature requests: - The ability to record a single midi track to disk (for those of us without an external source to do so) - See the audible reproduction minimum and maxiumum lines (in Hz and kHz) on the waveform display by device
Stop reading and get this now. While you’re reading this, go ahead and download the synth. First, it sounds great. It’s fun to work with, because there’s so much to control. So far it’s been very stable. I’ve seen multiple requests for an owner’s manual, but my guess is that over time, the user community will be posting tutorials and hacks. If you’re lost when first looking at Synth One, any tutorial or book on subtractive synthesis and FM synthesis should get you oriented. The following items aren’t criticisms, but rather things I’d love to see added (if they aren’t already there - I’m still learning it): Since I’ve been using this without a controller, it would be great to have some optional transport controls when I’m using it with a DAW on my iPad. So far, I’ve pressing the record button, then switching over to Synth One. Naturally, using this with a controller would solve this. I just like the idea of busting out my iPad when I have an idea and I’m not in the studio. (And there’s probably an app for that that I’m not aware of.) I haven’t figured out how to get Synth One to sync to an external clock. Would be great to sync the arp/seq, LFOs, delays, etc., to various timing intervals with the external clock. Would be great to have an arpeggio or sequence playing, then play using another patch over the part that’s already playing. The LFO modulation matrix is great. It got me thinking how amazing it would be to have a patch bay screen, for all kinds of routing flexibility. Given that this is open source, does this synth allow for others to develop plugins that could expand the functions of Synth One? I’m very impressed with AudioKit’s work. I’ll be looking into their other products as well. Big fan.
Best Free Online Synth. As someone who has wanted to get into music production even since I was a kid, I was never able to find the right apps to do so. I finally did some research and stumbled across this app - not only is it a completely free and completely functional, but it’s good for both beginners and pros alike. I’ve learned a lot about how synths work just by fooling around with the controls. It has a large bank of pre made patches that sound amazing. Another thing I love about it is the fact I can record audio from it through Garage Band. This allows much easier mixing and also means you can pair the app with the instruments on Garage Band. Get this app. You will not regret it.
WOW!. I’m am blown away by the depth and versatility of this app, not to mention the ease of use, responsiveness and incredibly user friendly layout. I’m a very seasoned and experienced musician, my intention was to download this for my son to give him some synth tools without having to learn overly complex software. I’m pretty sure he will have fun with it, unfortunately for him I have not put it down long enough for him to use. Without getting to deep into the detail, I’ll just say, try it for yourself and see what I mean. Thank you to the team who developed and gave us this app, it’s simply outstanding.
Solid In Every Place. Words can’t describe how impressed I am by this app, there’s so many great benefits about it, it’s free, no in app purchases, hundreds of synths by the community, amazing settings, and great sound, how can you not like this app? My ONLY concern is that I’m unfortunately not able to use it as its own keyboard on the GarageBand iOS app like some other app such as Sensual Sax for example. If I were able to do that, that would check off everything off of my list for this app and make life a whole lot easier.
Very good. This is a very good synthesizer. However, when I use it as an instrument in GarageBand, I have to switch back and forth between the two, which annoys me when making a song or beat over 90 BPM. I just wish that there was a way to directly load it into GarageBand like for say, Synth Master Player, which has a extension instead of just outputting the audio into a track. What I’m trying to say is instead of using inter-app audio just use Audio unit extension. Other than that, this is a great tool for musicians, especially beginners to make their own patches or sounds to use in production. Thanks to everyone who took their dear time to make an amazing product. Have been using this for over a year now and still loving it.
Absolutely phenomenal. This synth sounds amazing, looks amazing, has more features than you would expect, and it’s free!! This quickly became a favorite synth of mine; I’m more pleased with it than apps I’ve paid $20+ for. I’m running it on an Air 1 and haven’t run into any performance problems with this. Some features I really dig are the oscilloscope, the tuning controls, and the effects. It’s cool being able to see your sounds in real-time and not many synths—hardware or software—have that feature. The tuning page is really inspiring because you can get some nice variations while using the sequencer. And the effects sound absolutely beautiful. I also enjoy the ability to scroll through the different pages while playing the onscreen keyboard. That’s not where the awesomeness of this app ends though. I cannot speak highly enough of what Matt and the rest of the team have pulled off here. To me, the greatness of a synthesizer is judged by how immersive the playing experience is, and Synth One delivers. You can quickly get lost in playing this because it is just that good. If you have an iPad, you need this app.
An excellent professional soft synth for FREE!?!?. Wow I can remember when I first discovered this synth but I have been playing around with it for a couple of years now off and on. I do not really know how to play keyboard or anything else for that matter but hey with this app you dont need to know anything just open it up and start exploring. And it works with Garageband too so it is very easy to record. The samples and sounds are amazing and all the user controls are mind boggling. I am still also studying with and app called synth tutorial which explains all the terminology and explains all the ways to use and change the signals and sound waves. I am 71 yo music hobbyist and I just love learning new things. So thank you to all the experts worldwide that have come together out of charity for us poor working class folks to put out a free professional music creation app like this. It is really fun and entertaining.
Just amazing!. I just want to thank the incredible team behind this professional synthesizer app. Your dedication to making such a high-quality tool available for free and open source is truly commendable. The app is not only feature-rich and intuitive but also offers a level of sound quality that rivals many paid alternatives. Your mindset of prioritizing accessibility and community contribution is inspiring. I highly recommend this app to both beginners and seasoned musicians. Thank you for your hard work and generosity!
Incredible. [Update 2] please please please if possible, change the app into an Audio Unit. Interapp audio is so buggy - audio connection from Synth one to the DAW is constantly becoming lost. Happens with every iOS DAW I've tried - Cubasis, Music Studio, and others. And it's not just Synth One - other sound modules have the same problem. I end up having to either restart the module or the DAW to re-establish the connection. But I never have this problem with Audio Unit apps (plus the in-app integration, altering the module to become accessible inside the DAW, is very cool!). [Update] YES!!! Either I missed it before, or you guys added the arpeggiator tempo adjustment! Thank you!!! This synth is the best! [End update] Just get it! One of, if not the best synth on iOS! Awesome sounds, huge level of control and flexibility, and great support from the team. One thing - PLEASE add the ability to set the tempo of the sequencer/arpeggiator, not just the division length (and by the way, the label for division is misspelled as "dev"). That way we can record sequences that match whatever tempo we're using in other DAWs.
So MUCH FUN!!. This app is amazing! It’s so easy to use and so fun to play with every option that is available which there are tons it’s well worth the purchase.... ITS FREE! So why not try it you may just find a musician lives in you after all or maybe just a sound effects coordinator or just a helpful tool when your playing games at the wedding party or birthday party or whatever this truly is one of the most versitile apps out there and very worth it!!! Well done to the creators and the dreamers that are working to keep this app amazing thank you thank you!!
Delightful DAW Delivers!. Thank you to all the designers who took time to make this happen. I have been so happy with its responsiveness to input using my keyboard. Haven’t tapped into the midi capabilities yet, but all things considered, there is so much creative potential here, it’s a power trip. For anyone trying out a synth app for the first time or if you just need to test your keyboard’s functions out, this is a mainstay for your phone and tablet to maximize their sound-generating capabilities. If I had a personal desire to improve the app it would be to allow it to continue playing in the background so I could use other apps simultaneously. Otherwise it does everything you need to get working on your own synth sounds and sequences.
Can’t believe this is real, and even more shocked that it’s free. I’m a lifelong musician but have never learned how to do anything with a synth, so of course I’m still trying to learn how to fully use this software, but I am absolutely blown away that this is free of charge. I mean really, this may well be the most impressive music app I’ve ever seen, and for it to be free is unbelievable. If AudioKit charged $50 for this, it’d still be worth that and then some, but even if you’re not a musician you owe it to yourself to download this just to see the potential of music through an iPad these days.
Record Quality. I love music toys and have purchased dozens of synths for iPhone iPad and computer. So I checked this out just for fun. Well the SHOCK hasn’t worn off yet. This thing is utterly delicious. I find myself coming back to it as often as I have time. From the first note, I felt like I entered the world of major label recordings. That’s no small feat I’ve made records for 45 years and played some good synths in that time, both hardware and virtual. But very few have made me feel like I’m playing on a record, straight out of the box. I’ve long admired major keyboard players who could get “that sound” because I don’t play keys and didn’t quite understand how they did it. This FREE app took me there so fast that I ended up buying Audiokit’s D1 just to see the difference and support the developers. Well the D1 is much like this, except bigger and better. For 14 bucks I’m still scratching my head over that miracle. If I had to say ANYthing, the Synth One GUI is better and more pleasing to the eye. I hope that the things that they have come up with since the D1 was developed will find their way back into a future “D2”. I love this open source project and can’t wait to see what it evolves into. Having a free (great) app and an inexpensive paid (slightly better) app seems like a hip marketing strategy. It worked for me, that’s for sure. I don’t say any of this lightly, I have several great synths that I love but these are the only synths besides some top-shelf U-He items that I can actually USE as my main “record quality” synths. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and musical joy.
Best synth (I tried the others, they compete for 2nd). This app is exactly what it says, and then some. It offers a pretty nice set of effects on top of the oscillators and sequencer. It’s also very user friendly. It took me all of 20 minutes to figure out how everything worked, and I am a complete novice at producing. If you are looking for a portable synth to make some sounds on the go, you just found the best one. I searched through the App Store and tried others; Synth One offers so many more options, including saving your work to presets and exporting! Suggestion to the developers: just a thought for future expansion of the app, can we get additional base waveforms to work with? Triangle, sawtooth, square, and a low duty cycle square are nice, but the addition of sine waves and other, more complex wave forms would offer some nice new possibilities. Also, being able to add extra filters (that is, have 2, 3, or more filters at once) would be a very nice feature for the future. Lastly, having more than 2 oscillators would be great. There’s a lot you can do with 2, but three brings in a whole new dimension to things.

Best out there, including the expensive paid ones!. This is a no-brainer. This does what it says on the box and so much more. I’ve spent a stupid amount of money on iPad and iPhone synths from big name companies and this just wipes the floor with them. Check out these guy’s other apps too, they are ALL killer!
Best synth app by far.. It just works so well on my iPad. I use it all the time for recording. 👍🏽👍🏽🇦🇺 2 thumbs up!!!
Amazing app. I especially went and bought the Korg Microkey Air, (Bluetooth) keyboard to use with this app, and it runs so so well via Bluetooth, I just want to say thank you to the developers of this synth, the sound it provides is awesome I just love it, and all the presets are spot on, plus the app is totally free, I’m feeling the love with this, it’s all put together so well with love. Keep em coming guys, I will be happy to purchase anything you bring out synth wise in the future..five stars from me.👌👌👌
Unreal. Honestly this team are magicians and really nice people. They have given this app to us. It’s one of the best out there and unbelievable value.
Forget the rest. Just get this app, AudioKit Synth One is fantastic. Push the keys and create your masterpieces. These guys are the best for creating this open source app with lots of extra free downloads. Sounds amazing! Interface is stunning, I’m sold!
Cannot express enough how awesome. The most fun instrument I've ever played. This app is legit the main reason I bought an ipad, and I'm glad I did! Absolutely awesome for Improvising in.
This is Better Than My Hardware Synth!. What an amazing app... I would pay for it! If i had the money for it... Please don’t charge for it although...👌 Has routing written in for a mod matrix understanding also. Too much to say...The makers have made a real service for us.
Awesome synth. I use this to run drones through a Bluetooth speaker when I busk with my double bass… cool vibes every time…
MusicOfTheFirmament🌀. Finally found ya ♾️ ! Added so much more to my recorded collabs . Topped with some vocal bliss … thank you … & now … ♾️ 🌀… Arize Homo Sapienz 🕉️Arize
Absolutely brilliant. This app mkes the hairs stand on the back of my neck.. Great interface, easy to grasp and tweak and sounds sublime. Do yourself a favour and get the free patches too! Very happy, thank you to all the developers for creating something so amazing.
Wondrous App That Opens up Options. Recently through the magic of Bluetooth midi , have an MPC 61 key connected to this astounding app..I can layer the sound of the MPC with one of the great presets …especially useful when using the arp ones. Some of the presets on the synth one app , really blend in with the Akai MPC 61 presets . The audio out goes from an iPad 9 headphone jack back to the MPC input 1 . Using an audio track on the MPC , and a plug in track or drum track ect on the MPC enables one to record both presets( or more) ..without fussing with midi interfaces . The combination of sounds is astounding this app really presents mix ready tones . Have downloaded the synth tutorial book …wow …and this is all FREE? Bravo to the souls behind this app. I would give 6 stars if allowed.
Best music instrument app on the app store. This is a really good app that anyone who is in to music should try. I have never used an synthesiser before so all the settings and stuff were a bit overwhelming but it was to mess around with all the settings and try and find out what they do. 5 stars 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Incredible. Fantastic App! The variety of sounds it can produce is vast! The controls are intuitive and user friendly, and best of all, it’s free! Really appreciate the energy and effort it would have took to produce this app.
Absolutely must have. This is a fantastic free and open source app that will definitely not disappoint anyone. There is nothing much missing here. I am only a novice with synths but I am having a ball using my keyboard to record an mix tracks. Definitely one to get.
This app is just special. Such a wholesome and top quality app. This one's a must have!
Such An Awesome Synth 🙌 And It’s Freeeeeee!. This has remained in my workflow since it first dropped. Great UI and such an awesome sounding synth. Big props to Matt for keeping this a free app. Onya pal! 🙌🙌🙌
One of the best. There is a big crowd when it comes to synths, but this is a stand out. Being free in this day and age is astounding. Many thanks.
meow. its cool but add some dubstep to it and its laggy when I try to connect it it on garage band😀
Love it!. Absolutely amazing. Wild achievement to have done it for free. Thanks to everyone who helped build it.
Great tool. I use this BT live with my band direct from my phone. It adds another layer I love in dark parts of songs. I use it on the road to record ideas as well. Great all round tool.
Great app. I just downloaded it and the more I make music the more I find new controls. I would like if it could have a timeline and loops but that isn’t for synthesisers so I don’t mind. Other than that, it’s an amazing app.
Powerful soft synth. Wow! What a great app. All the power and possibly better functionality of more established and expensive pieces of software. I’m using the app just for idea generation, so haven’t added it to my music production workflow but it seems perfectly capable if you are an iOS producer. The list of patches and presets are the perfect launching pad for playing with ideas and the app offers all the options you’ll ever need to craft the sounds you’re after. Thank you for embarking on such an ambitious project and then to offer it to the world for free, they reserve a special place in heaven for people like you. Synth on, Synth One!
Love this app. I like this synth a lot but can you add more sound come from 80’s time, thanks, 5 stars still
From David in Australia. You have to be nuts to pass this one up great job guys thanks for everything especially to Doug at the sound test room for giving a great demo on this if possible I would give 20 out of 10 it sounds great just on a Bluetooth speaker can’t wait to hook it up to my recording studio
The most Amazing sounding synth on the www. Simply put it sounds great and is relatively easy to use plus g it into GarageBand or the daw on your device and swoon .
Excellent Synth. Coming from an old analogue Mini Moog background of two oscillators & one modulator oscillator, it was easy to get your head around the main screen. It has a unique sound closer to the modern FM synth with its ARP emulation. Very happy with its fidelity, effects and loop functions.
Awesome work.. Seriously cool synth with a fantastic approach. Five stars. Music is the best thing in the world and you guys and gals have added to the language. Peace. What a great piece of music software!
Quality plus. Thank you for making this app. My projects are richer for this synth.
Most Useful. Can’t write much at the moment as I’m in the middle of a rad jam 🎵 This is a really good app. The global tuning feature is very handy for matching the tuning of acoustic instruments or other samples.
If it’s not part of your kit...why not?. I’ve been using SynthOne for a while now and it remains one or my go to apps. Over the years I included it in my live music as well as laying down tracks. I’m really looking forward to being able to run many instances of it at the same time in AudioBus 3 as an AU not just as an app.
Save the sound. Maybe children will be able to use this technology as musicians on iPads, tablets and computers, all individually connected to amplifiers in groups.
Well done people, welll done what this does for the world is a beautiful thing!. I thank all involved in this endeavour, your all to be commended for your efforts. My sincerest thanks
Love this app!. Really great app. Easy to use but powerful and sounds great. I know you’re all volunteers but it would be amazing if you could please add support for AUv3 to allow better interoperability with garage band. Thanks again!
Insanely good. That this is free blows my mind. Feature packed, amazing quality, loads of fun. Blows other free music apps out of the water by miles and miles. It’s beautiful that this exists. Thank you to the team behind this app.
Immediate. Everything about this app is immediate. The layout gives immediate access to plainly labelled controls without distractions. The settings can be manipulated easily to produce an infinite variety of sounds. Despite the cliche, this may be the only synth you need.
Awesome not so little synth.. Fantastic app. I’m using it when I feel to stressed with my work or on the plane on short flights.
Synth one . Synthley perfect. Still speechless ! Really cool bit of gear ! And for free ? Open to improvements? I am impressed .
On the run. I’m a guitarist and to send our main vocalist and writer a progression this is perfect. Many thanks
Unbelievable, incredible!. Surely this cannot be right, I mean there must be a catch? This is really free? It is incredible and amazing....hands down the most value for (no) money app you can download! I haven’t got an ounce of musical talent but the fun to be had with this - it can keep you entertained for hours. Thank you.
So Good.. Amazing attention to detail, killer sounds and free. 10/10 would recommend.
Amazing. I downloaded this this morning and it’s already my favourite thing ever. Thank you! 🙏
So much in such a small package. Fantastic synth engine rivaling the big boys! Worth everyone’s time. Can’t recommend enough.
Fabulous free app. Thanks to all the devs for making this free app. I have it hooked up to an Akai MPK Midi controller and finding it a great entry level app to learn about synthesis.
Awesome goodness!. It’s free and the sounds are fantastic. This is becoming my go to app. Would be great to have tap tempo and external midi clock sync. But it’s free....already a big treat! To the people behind this creation thank you very much 👍.
Need help. Great app just a beginner how do you record music as seen on web
Awesome. This is a proper synth. Has more great stuff than most of the much more expensive apps. Very intuitively set out and easy to use. Excellent content. Highly recommended
Sdderccfgvccf. Canberra I have to be at work soon to be there soon to get back in the car if I can find something else for my truck and then I’ll really take it sir Orange soon to have the car ready soon soon to
Great Synth. Great sound, heaps of presets, two oscillators, sequencer, effects, filters, two x/y pads, midi integration, auv3 coming and all for free..! This synth is also open source so you can add to it if you have the skills. What more could you possibly want?
Tremendous potential. Even a little tike can mess around with this one. Completely full and functional. But still a pro tool.
Flexible tool and great for learning synthesis. Using the downloaded booklet and working through examples teaches principles of synthesis. A great way of learning and increasing your sound options.

The best!. Wow, still getting updates AND new content! Love you guys!
Doesn’t work on iPhone 12 mini. Well, sort of. The synth does work, but the left side of the main view is cut off, the bottom of settings are cut off, and none of that is accessible. Other than that, it works, and I love to play with it more as it seems quite good, but I can’t access all the controls.
Doesn’t work. When I goon the app it doesn’t work it. My sound works on other apps but not this one??
Fantastic synth non Auv3. Make it Auv3 please
Truly awesome. So many presets to experiment. Better than video games
Great!. This is Great for playing around or if your trying to get started playing,Great game love it!!!
Great app. Great for working out ideas when out and about
Good but can’t figure out middi. Don’t now how to use the middi functionality in GarageBand other apps by this dev do though so… Overall great synth for fun to mess around with
Fantastic app. Thanks to the devs, very well made and sounds great!
Great but…. I really love this app. There is a lot of quality here. But I have a problem using it via audiobus in fruit loops mobile. This is perhaps not even a problem with THIS synth, but a problem with Fruitloops mobile, I don’t know. But I’ve tried and tried to open it from within Fruitloops mobile, and I cannot for the life of me get it to work without distortion/crackling. I’m using an iPhone XR. If there’s a solution to this, I would be over the moon for this synth app. And regardless, I highly recommend downloading it to use, especially in standalone mode. Koodos to the great developer work on it. I really appreciate it.
Just amazing !. A monumental tour-de-force ! Certainly one of the best and most affordable (because it’s free 😉) introduction to the world of synthesizers available today !
Awesome teaching synth. Must have! Period :D
Nice app. The app is amazing. It’s got a lot of stuff and presets, unlike some paid alternatives. And it’s not even paid
This app is great, it’s a lot more customizable to make music. I like to experiment with this app and see what I can come up with to make music, I struggled to make music in the past but now with this it’s a lot more easy once you get some basics, totally recommend
Synth. Génial
An App Synth for the future. There’s obviously been some great thought put into this app and it’s sonic capabilities.I’m just discovering how to incorporate it into my Bluetooth musical setup . There’s so many amazing sounds, can’t wait to see what’s next thanks so much to the developers it’s awesome. It’s definitely a wave of the future.
Amazing. Great interface and patches. Love how it directly records and exports even sessions across multiple patches. Makes it very easy to bring into other projects.
My favourite thing to do. In 2023 I tried to make train horn and whistle but I can’t so I deleted the app but now……. I FINALLY DID IT😃
Cool beans, awesome sauce at the end of the day fam. Tbh, fam y’all need to get this app at the end of the day fam, only at the end of the day, other times of the day don’t matter. Stay safe, stay woke, and don’t be a Karen ok boomer? Gotta go take a selfie with my Hubby, doggos and fur babies
This app may genuinely be the only reason I’m still doing music years after quitting piano lessons. I randomly got this app on my iPad when I was a kid and now, years later, I’m trying to actually learn music production (I’m not, like, good at it or anything but still) I probably wouldn’t still be making music as an adult if this app hadn’t introduced me to synths
Amazing. Hundreds of free sounds. Got this for live music in basement. Always wanted a keyboard/synth to play songs when guitar isn’t necessary and this rules. Most apps offer a few sounds for free. This one has HUNDREDS. I will be spending a lot of time on this synth. I thank you. My wife and kids, not so much.
Great synth. This app is so fun and well done
Hard to beat. Synth One is the best money can’t buy… And the best all questions marked. I like the simplicity of it as well as the fact it was designed by musicians from the get go! A wonder!
Would be 5 stars if keys were bigger on iPhone. Great app, fun with a little midi controller, but when trying to play on the iphone there is no option to make the screen just 5 keys lets say (that I have found). Aside from that love all the voices, all the options, you can dive really deep with this free app.
EXCELLENT APP. This APP is AMAZING. You can literally get lost for hours in it. MANY THANKS.
Dat sound. Sounds amazing from the first touch on the keyboard.
The Presets are UNBELIEVABLE. This app is unbelievably great! I’ve on Nay scratched the surface while digging into the presets, and yet I feel like Luke Skywalker taking my first steps into a larger world.
Excellent free synth app!. Thanks to the developers who put in the the time and effort to create this fine synthesizer app. Hours of fun for sound and noise geeks.
Perfect. Perfect like professional synth
Synth. Wow très bon sons les fréquence formidable vais vibrer mes écouteurs
Merci. Fantastic les sonorités sont très riches et li me sont très pratique pour. Le projet sur lequel je travaille . Merci .
Master Florin. I had a broken heart after the disappearance of Alchemy Synth Mobile from the Apple Store. No longer the case. Now I have this marvellous app created by magicians. Flying on the cloud nine now. May you live long and prosper.
False mod wheel destinations. Contrary to what is stated in page 65 of the manual, mod wheel effects LFO “rate” rather than “amount” (aka depth). This is a problem for me when trying to design sounds that use the mod wheel for vibrato. Once this is fixed, I’ll have no problem giving it five stars.
World Class Synth Top Job From Dev. The sounds on this amazing Labour of love SYnthy beast is simply, awesome. What lovely and rich sounds it makes. Nothing to risk here as it’s free and a world-class app. This true Labour of love to the iOS music world is a rare and precious gift so getting this amazing music app is a no brainer. Top job to the Dev~you have a fan for life. Congratulations on this historic release and for the monumental next leap for iOS synthesizers. You just set the bar that much higher. Thank you for this incredible gift to the world. Cheers!
Would be nice if there was a vst version of it somewhere so I could actually get use out of it.. Seriously, what’s the point of using this to make music if I can’t use it for the programs that do that? It’s cool and all, but the presets are useless because the only version of this app is this app. No vst version for DAWs, none of that. Talk about severely missed potential.
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing all these awesome synths to the song writer community for free! I am so excited to use these for my music!😆
Very cool. 好用👍❤️
It is a good app, there is always a way to improve it.. Could use some more content.
Awesome piece of work. This is an amazing synthesizer that I have never seen before on any phone. Please keep up the great work guys!!!
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯/😲😲😲😲😲
Superb synth!. Really and truly an awesome synthesizer. Do not hesitate to give it a try. You will not be disappointed. Cheers to the developers.
Just Sick. Incredible sounds. Only just exploring but amazing so far.
Brilliant ‘warmth’ from a software synth!. Playing with synthesizers since the Fall of 1975, it be often easy for me to turn my head away from a lifeless digital patch. Right ‘out of the box’ though? Audiokit’s Synth One, should not be free! Early into it, the sound of this monster, from my i-Pad through my Sony MDR-7506’s? Whoa! This is a keeper, in my personal ‘studio’! Well phricken done peeps! Many thank yous and much respect! 🫡 Ryk Thekreator - the hexInverter.com Liquid HiHat innovenvator 🇨🇦
love this app. I use it so often and have made countless tunes with it. Adore it! the rainbow option for the keys makes for a striking performance aesthetic too.
Luscious sounds and sequences .... .. Luscious virtual synth ... portable and full charged with excellent controls .
Very cool. New with synths. Great for learning
Great synth!. Wonder and amazing. Absolutely invaluable to my creative work. A shout out of thanks to all who have contributed.
Simply awesome!. What, a free synth combined with a lot of features and Free? Simply awesome! Thank you so much!
Powerful. What a powerful and well put together Synth project, well done to all parties who contributed to this venture. Only thing missing is AU support, hope that’s a top priority.
It's missing something tho.... I've been looking for something like this for so long and for a free software, this is seriously amazing. The only reason that I didn't rate this 5 stars is because THIS COULD BE AMAZING WITH AU SUPPORT OMG I use GarageBand for my music and I would love to be able to use this IN Garageband. For now I guess i'll stick with audio tracks instead of midi tracks :(

Cheers!. Stellar. The program is so full of gadgets to perfect what focus you might want to experiment with. My favorite so far is the fact that someone actually used the sound wave symbols for what KIND of sound was associated with WHAT KIND of wave is made when THAT sound is selected! Joy! I can even do sound experiments now that it compliant with two I’ve never had the time to pair! I LOVE THIS APP. How SWEET and FANTASTIC the developing body of beings are for creating this to share!!!
I don’t normally write reviews…. But this app is absolutely phenomenal. I made the decision for you, I downloaded all the other synth apps and this one is just the best option because it’s free. I can create endless amounts of custom sounds effortlessly and export them straight into dropbox as wav files. I can then use them as a sample in FL Studio and create “one shots” that I can then put into midi chords to create melodies from custom sounds. It’s just so much easier to do it from my phone. Thank you
So awesome what a great app. This is so good for a free application I can’t believe it. Great sounds and total tweak ability. Even for someone like myself who doesn’t know anything about creating sense, it’s very usable and very fun. I’m going to use it to throw a few back up sounds for our cover band, saving us from buying a synth for this purpose and fitting nicely on to my microphone stand, instead of having to buy a separate keyboard stand…
Can’t beat this FREE synth. I am a complete beginner with synths, so I use this app to play. The app is pre-loaded with a lot of presets, but you can also just start with a basic sine/square/saw/etc. if you want to get a little more custom with the sound design. Plus you can easily capture sounds by saving presets and making recordings with the press of a button. I love recording ambient jams and just having fun! Not sure yet how to integrate this with any kind of DAW or synth setup, but imo this is a powerful app.
Won’t quit on iPhone. *EDIT*. I’m sure it’s a bug that’ll be worked out, but the app is not *quite* ready for prime time on the iPhone. Fantastic app though. Thank you, devs! Re-downloaded and poked around a bit more. Seems the only way to quit out with the “swipe up” gesture on iPhone X is actually “swipe sideways”, aka swipe up *in landscape mode*. It’s a minor adjustment to the UI of the iOS when accustomed to swiping up for every other app, but the accommodation is a small price to pay for such a great (and FREE!) app.
for dummies. This is by far and away the best touch instrument I’ve ever used and it’s free. I’m basically an idiot when it comes to synths and midi etc but this thing comes loaded with presets to inspire ideas and templates for creating your own presets. I may be a dummy in a whole lot of areas but economics 101 is not one of them , I’d have paid for this product probably but it’s open source and unless I’m really REALLY high, new sounds are added all the time. Thank you thank you . Sincerely the dummy from Kentucky
Greatest sounding synth on iOS. This is the absolute BEST sounding synth on iOS I’ve found. The quality is amazing, and the features are everything you could possibly want. I look forward to when it gets auv3 support, as that would really help me in my projects. But even so, as the synth currently is, I would give more than 5 stars if I could. Thank you to all those who contribute to its development.
Works on its own, but not with midi keyboard rig.. I love the sounds this synth can make. But I cannot use it. Because even on my brand new top of the line ipad, it’s not working well over midi. If I hold down a note, then play and release a second note, on the iPad alone it works properly - but with ALL of my midi keyboards, the first note drops in volume when I play and release the second note. I’ve tried changing the buffer, different cables, everything…. nothing I do helps. Btw I have other softsynths running on the iPad, and none of them have this issue.
Wonderful Sound. I appreciate the depth of sound one can get from this synthesizer. It’s simply well designed and fun to experiment with. The fact that it’s Open Source and completely free is intriguing as well as good for the music community as a whole. Sometimes it’s difficult for people who want a creative outlet, but have very little to no funds to support their endeavor, to find ways to make music; this app is more important than it may seem.
Wonderful app.. I love that this is voiceover accessible. I don't understand what all the' extra things do, so I wish there had been a tutorial or something, but it's still easy to use and lots of fun, especially for me because I'm blind and have to use the voiceover. I don't even have to turn the voiceover off to use the keyboard, as I must do on other keyboard apps. and the sounds are COOL!!!
LOVE this synth!. It’s free, which is awesome, but it’s not just that. A lot of time and thought clearly went into it. The interface is clear, easy to use and attractive. It was a bunch of good sounds and it’s easy to modify or program your own. Plus, if you’re not a sound designer (I’m sure not!), there’s already a community of designers who are releasing additional presets for free! Basically, if you’ve got room on your device- and it’s not too big - there’s almost no reason not to get this app. 🙂
No reason to buy another synth app🐝🦵🦵. Greatest App Ever Made!!!! This is exactly what the world needed to revolutionize sound making in all its categories. A great big giaNT MASSIVE APPRECIATORY THANKS 🙏 to the developers and any contributors of this unbelievable project!!! I sincerely hope to see more programmers give users a great gift like this but I understand people got to eat also!!! Honestly WOW! Thank you Thank You Thank Thank You everyone involved Thank You Forever
Incredible for professional musicians & their babies. It’s a little hard to type right now because my son is so active in learning how to use the phone but I just wanted to say that this app is amazing and is really a fantastic tool for learning and also for creating. I haven’t really delved deeper into other features but from what I can see and what I have observed, it’s really something special. It’s probably one of the best musical apps, free or not, on the App Store.
Wow. This is a crazy good app The only 2 flaw I can see is that it’s a little hard for beginners to learn as there is so much to learn If you search up how to use it there is a free online book which is very useful but even that can be hard to understand sometimes And on a iPhone the knobs can be hard to turn and control. (If they made them like sliders that popped up whenever you held the knobs it would help a lot) But besides these things, if you know what you are doing I see no other reason to complain
The Dirt vs. COVID 19. My bandmate Mike Bell recorded a whole album using this app each from our own perspective homes using, telephones, laptops & iPads. Your app is through the roof brilliant & amazing. Thanks to this wonderful app The Dirt has another Sonic Kitchen of Love record on Band Camp. Mike’s been after me to do another from home album the same way. By now, I’ve compiled quite a huge pile of lyrics & writing &$ am looking at AudioKit Synth One as something I can sing to & use to stay on the beat. Thanks a million.
Amazing app. I really love the functionality of this app the quality sounds how easy it is to use!! I only have one request though. I know that this app wasn’t made For SE screens but I love my phone! Is there a way you can make this app fully functional for the SE at the least add a scrolling function so I can see everything that I’m missing? I’d greatly appreciate that! Again I love this app and would love to be able to include it in my creative process more
Take the plunge!. I had been interested in exploring synthesizers for years, but the learning curve and the price prevented me from doing so. Audiokit’s Synth One solved both problems immediately. It’s super user-friendly: you don’t/won’t need expert knowledge to begin your sonic experimentations right away, and yet it’s powerful and professional enough that experienced synthesists will, I suspect, find ample creative possibilities here too. Kudos to the AK crew for putting this labor of love together!
Functional Link automatically gives 3 stars. But this app has everything and the interface functions smoooth to the touch. This is important to me. The sounds behave rationally also. For a free synth it is far and away the best app to have on the iPad. Would love to be able to play with the tunings section. Also it is sort of annoying scrolling around in that section. A revamp of some kind would be nice.
Auv3 support?. The app is amazing! 5 stars. I think the only thing that would make it better is the ability to use it in other iOS daws as a auv3 plugin. I think that because the app is free that it would be worth the money for the extra effort of implementing the feature. No subscribtion just a flat fee of a dollar to a few max. Thanks for the app.
Great synth, one problem. This is an incredible synth but there’s one problem I’m running into. When using this synth in IAA with FL Studio Mobile, I can only set one preset at a time. So basically all my IAA channels in all my tracks can collectively have only one Synth One preset sound playing at a time, which means I have to go into Synth One every time I switch tracks and change the preset to the one I was using in that song. Anyone got an idea what I’m doing wrong? Or is there no fix?
Highly Musical //// Incredible It’s Still FREE!. This is my go-to synth app — as the oscillators are fierce, dynamics are as quick as user’s fingers can allow.... After going down the iPad Music Making rabbit-hole about and for a bit over 3yrs now.... SYNTH ONE is a force to be reckoned with — no doubt it holds up and inspires as much as the iconic synth apps made by the analog greats — and the fact that there is so much FREE is nearly a gesture for world peace and altruism!
The Standard for Synth. This app is absolutely brilliant. I have not made music in years and this reignited the ease of having a piece in my mind and getting it out fast. Even more importantly, it’s loaded with incredible presets that fuel creative immediately. The fact that’s it’s free safe clean and functional is beyond what anyone used to expect. Synth One has set the gold standard for mobile synth, and all or free. Bravo.
THE BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER. Ok so I’m only saying “Christmas present” because my dad gave it to me for Christmas as a present specifically for me because he knew I would like it obv. So, first of all I loooooooooooooooooovve the filter and tune and EFFECTS!!!!!! And I can’t even say why! I mean, why would you make it so SATISFYING?!?!?!?! I love it too much! Second of all, no ads:))))))))))))) I HATE ADS. IF ANY AD PULLS UP IN FRONT OF MY SCREEN THE DEVELOPER WILL FEEL MY WRATH. IM SERIOUS >:( so thank you! Third of all, ITS JUST GOOD. PERIOD. So thank you for making it!!! LOVE YOUR APP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Drum Pad and Recording. This is the most professional free production app ever! I think if you add the ability to record the audio plus have a drum pad with pitch editing and key and note and all of that on there and a beat grid or whatever you call those that this would be the perfect app for this out of them all and easily make it’s way up the charts! Plus since it would all be free you can just throw some ads in there! Plus you already have apps that cost money!
Best free synthesizer app ever. I really love making music with this free synthesizer app and I recommend this app to everyone. This app is great for people who’s good at music but it’s also great for people that’s never played music before and wanted too Learn. This app has nothing to pay for and has no ads. I recommend this synthesizer app for kids, teenagers and adults. Please don’t buy a synthesizer try synth one first and don’t waste your money without trying synth one first
Epic Synth and an Epic purpose. One of the things that has been quite challenging is finding a quality synth at a reasonable price. As a beginner I don't know if this is truly my calling and shelling out $100 just doesn't seem worth it, no matter how good it is. This synth has more features and a huge community of people willing to share in their experience and knowlege, from all over. If your even thinking about grabbing, just do it, ya got nothing at all to lose
No reason NOT to have this. This little guy is amazing. I’m a hip hop producer and new to IOS production. I am currently using Blocs Wave and BeatMaker 3 and both are amazing but find instruments to replace my favorite vsts Massive and Serum. Now don’t get me wrong, this AU doesn’t replace those synths for me BUT it is sounds very nice and is inviting to tweak and design my own sounds. I’ve always been a preset guy but this app entices me to dive into it since it seems no company has a product like Massive or Serum.
Phenomenal!. I’m not a musician. I don’t even know how to use a keyboard to put notes together to make a simple tune, but I love this app. I can play with this for hours at a time and not get tired of the incredible flexibility just making what some people might call noise. Thanks for the amazing opportunity to see what can be done with some hard work and super generosity. Love it!!
Idk. • For music producers (or curious people whom simply enjoy dabbling with such apps): I think you really ought to download this app Immediately. • I personally didn’t pay attention to my elementary-nor-middle school music teachers; & In thee last couple weeks it’s had me a bit regretful & frustrated—NEVERTHELESS! Despite my ignorance, When I 1st launched this app I had a whole lot of fun in just playing around with it for approximately a minimum of 1hour, (perhaps 2).
Very Impressive. A free wonderland in a box !. Truly Amazing for all the sound it can synthesize -.A great list of presets and that you can transform to something totally different -. Unlikely other Synth app the Sounds bank is not tacky and yet it's totally free, no need to buy preset package. Besides it come with a sequencer, and many tuning options , from normal to bizarrely interesting -. it's not difficult to lose track of time :))) I uae this app on my phone, if you tap on the microphone in sequence, it create a cool effect -
An unexpectedly incredible instrument-thank you. I’m not a keyboardist per se but I have keyboards (but saxes and bass mostly)and I’ve heard music using this type of synthesizer and I was surprised to see how loaded it was with voice and rhythm nuances that were easily altered. 400 sounds, recording, wave graphs, and on, and on! Every sound is clean, clear, and focused but can get dirty too. Try it, you’ll like it. Thanks, tech!
Addictive. I’ve been playing music since 95 but never messed around mush with the electronics side of it even though I’ve always loved electronics.. just these past months I’ve really started to get into that huge world and this app is an amazing way to freely try and understand how things work with a lot of aspects I never new before.. super excited and many thanks to you
Excellent by any measure. I’m a music hobbyist with a couple of decades of dabbling in various synths and DAW applications. AudioKit Synth One is easy to play around with, but offers depth for those who seek it. I’m using it on an iPad with a Roland A-800 and it works flawlessly! The sounds compel me to want to make arrangements using them. Kudos to all those whose time and effort went into making this a showpiece for open source effort!
Perfect Synthesizer For Anyone!. I love this app. I have been playing music for about 20 years, but just recently started playing with Pads. I am trying to help enhance the sound at worship services at church. That being said I am on a tight budget. Thanks to this app I don’t have to spend lots of money on a new project I’m messing with. That being said this app has absolutely great sounding synths that sound too great to be free. Highly recommended for anyone!
Hats Off To The AudioKit Team & Contributors. Wow! I came across this app by chance. I am SOOO glad I did. So much synthy goodness packed into one app! No in app purchases and nonsense make Synth One a music production powerhouse without any distractions or annoying pop-ups. Also, the story of how the app came to be is a feel good story that I think anyone can feel. Thanks AudioKit and all the volunteers who have contributed to bringing such a wonderful app into the world! Hats off to you all!
The Best Musical Tool. I use this for all my song writing having 1000s of sounds at my finger tips and a full board with arpeggios and the ability to record for free is amazing. If you write music you need this I like it more than my real systems. Next step for me is to connect to midi so I can write in this. I seriously recommend this to every musician I meet
Great just amazing. Download now there is no reason not to. It is totally free super comprehensive and powerful. Developers I want to say one thing, I would be more than willing to watch ads on this app. If it’s possible to have an “enable adds” button in settings that would give an add every once in a while. I would enable it because I love what you guys are doing and want to do something to help even though I have no money to really donate. Ps is that fm kit coming to iPhone
Flawed, but more than worth the price. Update: the developers have been in touch and I will be checking out the latest version to see if my note triggering issues have been addressed. Original review: Synth One gets four stars from me simply because it has a lot on offer for being free. However, it has a lot of note triggering bugs, and this gets in the way of having fun playing it. Any other complaints are obscured by this one fatal flaw, and it IS a fatal flaw. If you cannot play a patch without notes getting cut or failing to trigger at all, well, that’s just a failure at step one. Fix those bugs and I’d give this synth a full five stars for the sheer amount of playability on offer for FREE. If this was a paid product, I would not be so kind. Thanks for the limited fun, AudioKit volunteers. That’s a sincere thank you, by the way; not sarcasm.
I don’t usually review apps. I have been in the market for a Synth for what feels like ages now either you get a rack and build your own which can get pricey or buy a stock synth and kick yourself later for not getting the features you were hoping for, this app is perfect for anyone wanting to explore a super synth without a crazy price tag. Thanks to all the devs involved in this project! Your work does not go unnoticed
I Am Addicted ;w;. So I was just listening to Neil Cicierega’s Spirit Phone commentary video and I heard him say Synth One and I was like, “Okay, it might cost something…” but just then he said it was free and I HAD to try it (thanks Neil!!) I do not at all whatsoever regret my decision!! I love playing around with it! I have never in my life used an app with synth noises let alone make my own! I have it on both my tablet and phone so I can pretty much use it anywhere. If you’re looking at this 10/10 recommend!
Developer please read. The reason I’m writing this review is because although I love the app, I’ve found a few issues. 1) The app crashes frequently. Must fix 2) The interface needs an adjustment (simpler interface, better [more straightforward] controls and adjustments, user created sounds, songs, presets, etc) 3) Needs a full keyboard If you could fix these issues and make some additions, then I think that you’ll have earned that fifth and final star.
Stellar sound design. This app took a long time in the making, and now I see why! It's absolutely amazing. This beats any synth I've installed, which includes most on the market for iOS (most costing 20$+). Great presets, but the control you have over sound is absolutely astounding. AU capabilities and other up to date music creation tools make this even better. Thanks so much to everyone who worked on this and released it for free :D!!!
Amazingly Powerful. Built from the amazing AudioKit library/framework! Has all the synthesizer functionality you’d generally want! Thank you so much to the developers and AudioKit contributors! My only disappointment is that it doesn’t show up in garageband as a valid Audio Unit; although I may not have something set correctly for this to occur! Highly recommended!
Microtones. It might be good to make the key colors match the tone colors in the tuning wheel, so that way the pitches are easier to locate. This this could be an option so that it could be turned on and off readily, so the equal temperament users could have the normal keyboard as well. Excluding that, this is a fantastic synthesizer. I have professional keyboards that aren’t as good as this one.
Audiokit!!. I own all of the apps. Synth one is on of the best synth apps for ios. And I’ll support every app huh all make. I met Aure on the Roland Vg-99 forum years ago, doesn’t matter- I love the open source- let’s get everyone making apps ethos spread by the crew. Unfortunately I don’t have an iPad and my recording Mac is ooold. I wish I could create apps on my iPhone 13. I watch the lessons. Desperately wanting to make my own instruments. 👍🏼👍🏼
Cool, but a few problems…. Me and my friend love to use this app to make train horn sounds. On my phone, however, the screen is cut off and does not show the full screen. I am using an iPhone SE, so if you could fix this, that would be great. Also, the controls are a bit confusing for me, but overall, great app! Thank you for reading this, and have a good day/night!
Overwhelming Possibilties. Lots of overwhelming possibilities of sound and melody. I’m already in production of finishing up a song. This is one of many great apps out there and well worth it. It does take time to play around with similar to that of Abelton. The only problem which isn’t even the app itself is, I have no clue what to do as far as copyrighting my own music, where to go, worried people are just gonna steal my music anyways and claim it as their own.
Holy ****! I love this app.. I am quite amazed, I had my doubts that it was totally free, but I was wrong and it is legitimately free. The creators of this app are Saints for donating their time to bring music all over the world. Also, the sound of this isn’t absolutely astonishing. It has the powerfully full sound of an old analog synthesizer. Yet it’s got the versatility of new synthesis, with the convenience of new technology! Download it now, you will be glad you did!
Superb!. I could not send my praise enough! Glorious application with lots of manual modification possibilities and some very awesome presets! I’m sure there are probably a gazillion synths you could customize with all the toggles and whatnot! I’m not as knowledgeable about such but is there info online? I’d say it’s professionally utilizable for music production and performing/entertainment as well as personal recreational enjoyment. thank y’all for a free application, it is much appreciated!
Awesome But. Now look, I just got this app last week. AND ITS ALREADY SO FRICKING GOOD!! I don’t have to- But there is one problem. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 I- don’t know how to, like, make my own sound for the piano’s voice. If I wanted to insert a vocal for a type of note I pressed, it wouldn’t be happening, bye bye dreams🚫! At least there’s no a- Ads…. Other than that this is a great, NO AD, piano! Someday in the future, though, I wish we could edit the notes! Ompoo out!
