No support for iMessage?. I was really excited after installing a SPH-10BT in my older car to have all these new features. Then I found out that there’s no way to access my text messages unless I download a third party app for texting. iMessage is the only thing most iPhone users text with because it’s just that good and you’re telling me you can’t figure out a way to let me use it? Very disappointed.

App no longer connects after day 3. I purchased the DEH S 4200BT stereo four days ago and when I set it up everything was working fine with my iPhone 8+. Next morning it kept telling me the app had lost connection with installed device. I have troubleshooted it multiple times and still can not get it to link. So my Bluetooth calls aren’t working clear and I can’t access app features. Not very happy! 😠

Music. Do you guys not realize how ridiculous it is to have music in this app? Whenever I am playing music through my music app (like any other person would do) and then try to charge my phone it jumps to play music through this app. At least have the music sync up so whenever you are playing through your normal music app it doesn’t change songs when you start to charge your phone. If anything you are making drivers look at their phone because when the app changes songs they have to look at their phone to change whatever the app is messing up for them

Home Screen. What happened to the home screen?! Speedo and direction output specifically. That was a feature I enjoyed and used often. Lifted truck my Speedo is off so I would use the Speed display to compare my speed. It was nice that was built into the app. It seems to have gone away with the most recent update.

Great for tuning the Radio EQ. This is great for tuning the Radio and I can see where it can be useful but it doesn’t work with Apple Music so it could be better. If they could integrate Apple Music into the app instead of just opening the Apple Music app it would be a 5 star review. However, if you own all of your music and don’t stream then this app is perfect for you. It only can play music that has been synced through iTunes.

Updated review. Ok so my first review was a 1 star because the app needed an update for ios12. Well now pioneer has fixed the issue and the app is amazing. So much easier to navigate the options (biggest is the equalizer). I am happy with my (now 4 month old) stereo. Here is what I’ve learned. If you depend on the app working with your stereo unit 100% of the time then I advise you not to update your phone until smart sync updates too. I was running ios11 when I first bought my stereo and it worked. I updated the phone the following day and it would crash every time after that. I realized the app and iOS12 weren’t compatible so I used an older phone to tune my system.

Good Sound Bad App: DEH-S31BT. The radio provides excellent audio, but I haven’t been able to use the app at all because it won’t connect to my radio. I have tried both the usb, and the Bluetooth setup methods but neither seems to work. I even tried installing a new copy of the firmware from the website, but wasn’t able to locate the firmware for my specific model stereo(DEH-S31BT). All in all, I really regret paying $90+ for a brand new radio that doesn’t properly function like it’s supposed to. If you can fix the app connectivity issues all of us newer device owners are having then maybe I will reconsider the rating I have given based off the performance and functionality of the device and services. Until then, I remain in disappointment especially with this type of issue coming from a company that is so widely known and commendable for its products.

Need to fix bugs. Too many issues with this app. Doesn’t connect the majority of the time thru Bluetooth. When it does, it doesn’t revert back to the previous source you left at. Ex, listening to podcasts from then when I turn off radio and turn it back on, it will play music stored on my phone. Same deal if I’m listening to Apple Music. It will play stored music on my phone. Then I need to go back and select the previous source. Very annoying

Disappointing. Can’t get the app to work at all! Tried three different phones, looked at you tube videos, read online articles, and just wasted hour after hour trying to get this to work! Can only connect my phone via Bluetooth, only charges via usb. Pretty disappointed in this unit. I’ve always had pioneer systems in whatever I had. Think it’s time to try something different.

Old UI was way better. I wish there was a way to downgrade. This new UI is just not right! It might be clean and trendy but the new design is not functional! I would like to have those features from before. Music skip by swiping, altimeter! Custom background, the ANALOG CLOCK! Bring it back please! I don’t see the point of this new interface. I am open for new things, but hey, this is going backwards. Tiny little buttons, sorry I can’t say anything positive from the new design. Perhaps for a new customer it will be great, but who experienced the old one, it’s disappointing! This app was the reason, I bought the Pioneer radio in the first place. Someone tell me, how to go back to previous version?

Issues with app. App allows you to save your audio settings and it’s suppose to stay like that, it changes back to flat settings without me doing nothing I have to go back and load settings again. Would love to know is it’s posible that on the unit display I could have the hour as default Also their is no way I could end a call from the head unit , you should add a feature on any key to end the call Unit I’m using is sph-c10bt Another thing that happens is that if your listening to the radio and if you get an audio message on WhatsApp, radio use to switch to BT and hear the audio, now ir your on the radio part and if you play the audio message it mixes with the radio sound Lots of issues , there is no way to hang/ end a call from the head unit , no way to display the hour permanently, only when is off

Ehhh. The app worked well the first month I had it. Now it’s like it won’t ever even is past the main screen before it freezes up and can’t use the app. This needs an update ASAP! Please work on this. This app is really easy and nice to use when it’s working properly

Garbage app. First, when the app works you have to agree to be safe on three different screens. Second, it’s aggravating to sync an iPhone. Having to scroll through options on the head unit is next to impossible. None of the buttons are labeled for the task of syncing. Third, the app is just NOT intuitive! We live in a world of IPhones and androids you would think they could just look to them and copy the good parts. When the junk works it Okay. (meh) just… okay.

Lots of issues. Contact list import does not import in alphabetical order and is not sortable. Also, the voice search cannot seem to find anyone in my contact list which Siri has no problem finding. Also, when using the navigation (I use Waze) the route audio updates do not play when I'm listening to another input. Other head units typically switch inputs to play the audio and then back to the previous input, ideally just attenuating the current input and allowing the audio from Waze to play over it would be best. Edit: found the audio control for navigation. It's under settings - navigation - guidance volume. I had to add+4 to hear it. Problem is of you're at least listening to the radio, the radio volume doesn't attenuate, so you really just get a jumble of audio. Still nothing with the contact list, probably going to contact support. Another update Oct 12, 2019: after the iOS 13 update, after the app is disconnected from the stereo (when the car is shut off) the media player on the iPhone stays active, showing on the home/lock screen until the smart sync app is manually closed. This is annoying as the Apple Watch continues to display that the media player is active and also shows the icon on the watch.

Is there a feature in this app that works?. This app was decent for awhile, but then the most recent update was released and all hell broke loose. My Bluetooth connectivity stopped working on my radio even though it had worked prior to updating, (I have a “DEH-S4120BT” model), some features went missing altogether from both the app and my radio, and the app won’t even load the caution screen when I try to connect via bluetooth, forcing me to use USB connection which is not of the best quality between the two options to say the least. I liked my radio a lot and didn’t even mind having to use an app to access most of the functions because I thought it gave me better access to the customization, but now it’s made my radio a living nightmare to use.

Garbage. I bought the stereo over others mainly for the fact that it had an app to make the user experience better and I have not been able to connect the app once since I bought it. The Bluetooth is connected as I am able to play music from my iPhone X, but as far as connecting the app it shows the device in list it shows the spinning connecting wheel and then the device box just disappears. If I hadn’t lost my receipt I would have taken it back. 🤣🤣

Don’t buy!!!. I have been struggling with this app and compatible Pioneer receiver for about 2 years, and it’s not getting better. Save yourself the aggravation and don’t get this. It is always having Bluetooth connectivity issues, difficulty connecting during startup and random disconnects. Even when “running” you will never know what kind of virtual button push latency you will get, from split second, to seven seconds, to half a minute. My wife hates it and so do I. It’s the final straw now, so I will be either returning it, or just simply throwing it in the trash, before the thing literally kills me while distracted driving. Way to go Pioneer!

Great Radio but not without issues. The SPH10BT does a great job in terms of the radio itself. The app and connectivity is where certain aspects begin to fail you. The app itself doesn’t seem to function on newly released or newer versions of the iPhone. I’ve tried everything to connect my XR to utilize this app to get the most out of the radio but can’t make it happen. It will connect via Bluetooth however to listen to music. If the other issues get resolved it would be 5 stars all day long!

Horrible App. Phone connects to stereo just fine and plays music just fine. App refuses to connect even while playing music via Bluetooth. The stereo is horrible for setting the fader or any advanced sound settings without the app and the app refuses to connect anymore. Absolute garbage. The stereo will randomly drop all music and fader settings. The only way to get the settings back is to reconnect the app which the app will no longer do.

Many improvements!. I’ve used this app for just over a year, and have watched it morph from minimal customization options & usability to an outright AwEsOmE stereo controller 😁 there’s now an Equalizer, Sound FX options {preset EQ settings labeled for specific music genres}, & the Sync Main//Home screen shows the time//date, let’s you add WhatEver photo you’d like as a background, and is SO MUCH Easier & Faster to get a good connection between my phone and the player. Great job, Pioneer Sync team — you’re without doubt creating a competitive music experience!! 🤘🏼Much appreciated! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I don’t understand all the negative reviews.. Perhaps I just got lucky, but after testing the app with my new stereo system for 2 weeks, I have not had any problems with it. The stereo I installed in my 2003 Dakota is the Pioneer DEH-S4220BT. Audio from any music app I have tried streams seamlessly from iPhone 11. I haven’t used navigation much, but did find it interesting that Maps now marks the location of my parked vehicle. Siri works fine over the stereo as well. I only wish support would be added for controlling SiriusXM app.

This app and the stereo are garbage.. Pioneer at one time meant quality stereo products. Well things have changed. I recently purchased one of their stereos that is SUPPOSED to connect through their Smart sync app. Well it does not function on any device I have. Everything I have is up to date. I can not alter some of the settings on the stereo without connecting through smart sync. Well I cannot connect....... This will be the last pioneer I ever purchase.

Phone connects to device better when the app isn’t installed. Not sure what the functionality of this app actually is. I was hoping it would ensure a strong connection between my phone (iPhone14) and the device. However, the app actually gets in the way of that. As I’ve experienced with Pioneer decks before, the phone disconnects when I shut the car off, only sometimes, and then needs to reconnect when starting up the car. It’s much more reliable to just manually connect to the deck thru phone settings/Bluetooth than the app. If there’s something that the app can do, I don’t know what it is that’s beyond what the iPhone can do just on its own. I’d love an app that ensures a strong connection between deck and phone. The deck’s sound and interface and look is soo good, actually perfect? So I’m gonna skip the app so I can remember that and not let this app drag down my impression of the rest of the product I love.

Needs dedicated iPad app. This app has potential for the customizing scene. I designed a custom mount for my single din stereo plus iPad and it has the potential to be amazing. I understand the low ratings because I originally had all the same bugs, but the recent updates have seemed to squash them. I also understand that making a dedicated iPad app might take away from their touchscreen head units, but it would be an amazing, definitely useful, addition to the app. Overall, this is a useful app. It makes sense for cars that can only have single din head units, but still want useful apps such as maps and a music collection with album art. So, please keep the updates coming :)

Very impressed. This is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with a car radio. Everything works perfectly and I surprisingly have no complaints. This product is a brilliant idea so I highly recommend the app and the pioneer radio with the phone holder. Great work pioneer keep it up!

Worst update ever. Pioneer, you took away everything that was awesome in your app and replaced it with everything that is awful. You took away our clock, you took away our speedometer, you took away easy access to music, you took away safety while driving! I won’t put up with this much longer. I’ll be pulling out the unit from my dash, smashing it with a hammer and then sending it to pioneer so you can look at it and wonder why. Give us the option of the previous app ASAP !

Love it. What is there no to love about the app !! Everything you need on the app !! Don’t need to play with radio just adjust on the app. The new update today is different but I’ll get used to it, but I don’t know why SLA is disabled (Source Level Adjustment) hopefully a new update will enable it. But overall the app is simple to use and make adjustments for the EQ easy and simple to use. I don’t understand why everyone has a problem or complain about the app when it’s basically simple. Btw I come from using Kenwood HU, the Pioneer MVH-S622BS is my first Pioneer HU and I was impressed by the quality it put out and features it has.

Love it. It is giving me problems not letting me pair my phone to the app and just early yesterday my phone was working with the app and when I was connected my controls would pop up but now there not coming on my phone can you guys please fix this issue

If you know then you know!. This app makes the 12’s to my car sound great! Even better with different options i have to change the sound. Needs to be updated though for IOS15!!!!

Spend the $ and get the Alpine Halo.. I got this app to pair specifically with a pioneer car stereo. 1) Bluetooth quality is terrible. Connects to everything around me except my phone. 2) when app won’t “automatically “ connect as it should you can’t adjust any of the equalizer settings. Sound is flat. I bought this radio to pair with an app on my phone and clearly the app is not of pioneer quality. Worst app ever. Wish I could give it less than a one star rating.

Needs car speed volume adjustment & sort. Please add to your next update a vehicle speed volume adjustment feature that doesn’t require a speed input from the car. Instead, it uses the connected cell phone GPS speed to adjust the volume on the output. It should have a low, medium, and high setting to adjust for different vehicles road noise. It also needs a sort function in the album view, so that it has the option to sort by artist like the iPhone music apps sorting. Right now it only sort by title, which is dumb.

Won’t work after update. After the latest update my phone will no longer properly connect to the head unit. It shows it’s connected and can control but I get no music. I’ve tested the radio which functions perfectly and I even get the little clicks when I increase volume from my phone but no sound. I’ve spend 3 days trying to sort this out and am about over it. The app worked moderately well prior with the occasional glitch here and there.

Most impressive companion app I’ve ever used. generally companion apps like this are a complete disaster from my experience. I didn’t even plan on using this one for that reason. But the additional functionality it adds to my radio and how conveniently and intuitively it is set up has completely changed my mind. Based on the reviews it seems like these guys have done a lot of work on this app, because I have none of these issues and I couldn’t be happier with it

Very nice!. I did a lot of research on what head unit I wanted for my classic car. Eventually I decided to go with this and I’m really impressed. The phone becomes part of the head unit, so it is excellent as a touch screen and the app makes things very seamless once you get it figured out. I’m very happy with this!

Nice app, but needs more work. Overall, I’m very happy with this app. I’ve been using it for about 2 months now. I’d say my biggest complaint is that the head unit doesn’t recognize when you’re using other navigation apps, other than Apple’s Maps app. Everyone knows Apple’s Maps app is horrible. I mostly use Waze. So whenever it’s open and I’m using it, the voice will come through the truck speakers, but if I hit the nav button on the unit, it will not open the Waze display. If I’m using the Maps app and am viewing something else, hit the nav button and it takes you right to Maps. Great feature, but it needs to work with whatever nav app is open!

Extremely disappointed!. You would think with a company with such a big name and technology behind their products,that they would actually create an app that works properly. When we first downloaded the app about 6 months ago it worked ok not good or great. Now with the new updates and bug fixes it’s actually worse. I am beyond disappointed in the app. Hopefully they invest more time and money into their app to at least make it ok.🤞Honestly i don’t see it happening and it’s just wishful thinking in my part.

Way to many steps. I figured it’d take up a little of my time to set up initially. But every single time I start my car I gotta do the same thing. Ridiculous I can’t even just plug into the usb and hit play and drive. I gotta go thru a near a twelve step program just to do that. Cool concept but more of a headache. The app, Bluetooth and wired connection are gonna make me late for work if I wanna listen to my music on the way. Not user friendly at all

Worked one time - iPhone XS. Purchased this months ago. Worked awesome the first time. Struggled the second time to connect to Bluetooth. Now I just have a brick in my dash. Emailed customer support, and they said to do a hard reset which I did by following the instructions they sent me. Still no use. I can see where I can connect with Bluetooth on the app. However when I click on it, I get an error message that pairing was unsuccessful. Very frustrating to say the least, especially when I know it worked the first time I turned it on. Basically, I’m starting to accept the fact that I’ve lost my money on this product.

App Should be called Stupid Sync. One star for the good equalizer settings. The way the app turns audio on and off drives me crazy and is in no way smart. Even my old $36 bluetooth head unit was better and when my truck is turned on the music starts. Not so with this. And then the having to click the “ok”every single time for safety while driving is so annoying. And while having a navigation app open and then abruptly having this app cut in and over mu navigation in crucial moments is again annoying. A company that produces quality equipment bit not a functional app is highly disappointing and they haven't put effort to resolving the smooth function of this app even tho its obvious in the ratings how sucky the app is.

WARNING: UNSAFE APP TO USE WHILE DRIVING. Pioneer’s recent 3.0.0 firmware update has decreased the clock size and eliminated the analog/digital display choice. It is now very difficult to read the time at a glance. Further, they eliminated the compass & altimeter display. This update doesn’t improve the utility of this app and thus the head unit installed in your car. Pioneer: calling you out for letting programmers with no common sense make decisions about what’s best for something you use in a car while driving - not a computer lab. Fix this!

No Home Screen on iPhone 13s. The Pioneer customer service person I spoke with said the Smart Synch app doesn’t work or has limited functionality on newer mobile devices. I get no Home Screen and no connection to the DEH-S6200BS head unit. It worked fine with my iPhone 7. Had full functionality. Now, no way to use any of the custom audio features, or to customize the screen colors with the app. Seems ridiculous that an app designed for head units still being sold will not work with modern mobile phones.

Great App. I received a SPH-10BT from my dad a while back and he told me to get the app. It's a very user friendly experience especially with the Maps Integration. Turns your phone into CarPlay essentially without the need of a CarPlay radio. At times it takes a while to connect but other than that it's a great experience.

Bring old app back. Don’t like this new update. It takes you away from driving to control your stereo. Can’t find the EQ setting,which I liked to cycle through. The volume control was much easier in last app version. The source set up is garbage. Bring back the old app. And the pause and play ,next track swipe method worked fine. The old version was much better ,just needed some cosmetic tweaks.

I like the app, but could offer more options. I really like the usability of the app and the fact that the devs are working to continue to make it better. I would like to see the ability to see songs and either like or dislike songs in Pandora.

App isn’t bad. I was scared that once I got my Pioneer SPH-10BT set up that it wouldn’t work well after I saw all the bad reviews. However, they turn out to be ill founded. The app is fine. It definitely gets the job done.

So far, so good, but…. I have not had any issues with the app like others have listed, but with a recent update that popped up, I’m hesitant to update. I’m rating three stars because there is no SXM support and it overrides it at startup to play from my personal music selection. Also, the box of the stereo clearly states the app can do all the things everyone below says it can no longer do. This is just plain false advertising since the stereo was bought only a couple months ago. I’ll continue to use the Bluetooth only and only use the app if I need to get advanced settings.

Update needs a update. Been using this for about say 2 years I like the old ui better plus I can’t see how fast I’m going with this new up date 😓y’all should’ve jus polish the last ui a little now don’t even want to use better off using my phone media player 🤔.... hate seeing this update so much I had to add something more what made y’all do this this app was good how it was damm 😑

Mixed good and bad.... The good: it no longer crashes when I open it and phone alert sounds play through the receiver even when I’m listening to the radio or some source other than my phone. The bad: EVERY time I start the car I have to grant permission for the app to communicate with the stereo.... EVERY TIME... I would think granting it once would imply that it’s okay for the foreseeable future to keep connecting.

Keeps losing pairing with Iphone.. I have an Iphone SE and it keeps losing pairing with the Bluetooth. Smart Sync keeps saying device not found and my Iphone shows other devices but doesn’t show the Deh-6120s stereo. Clear the Bluetooth memory on the stereo and then open smart sync app and it finally asks to pair. Not sure if the app is the issue or the Bluetooth in the stereo.

Very hard to connect. The bass and subwoofer sounds great thats if you can get your phone to finally connect thru the app. Not user friendly at all!! It says you are connected and nothing will play and then it just plain out won’t let you connect for no good reason. I would t recommend spending the money and using this app. Please fix this issue and make it more simple and user friendly

Issues with reverse sensor. Unit and the iPhone app works fine, until ND-PS1 parking sensor unit connected - when it gives ‘no data’ error message, and prevents us using any other app. The parking sensor app itself works - shows distances and gives alert sounds correctly. Seems like the integration is dodgy!!! Help!!

Could be so much better. Developer obviously isn’t a regular user, as there’s so many little things that could be improved to make this a top app. 1. Get rid of the warning screen or provide the option to “never show this again”. There’s too much text, nobody will ever read it after the first time, and it stays on the screen too long. 2. The view widgets need to be customisable. The speed indicator is ok but I would rather have the direction (compass) than the altitude. The music/playing icon should have the option to show album covers in the square or not have the square visible at all (especially when it has nothing in it except an icon). 3. More widget options, especially making Navigation a widget. Rather than having to decide between viewing the Pioneer app OR the navigation app, it would be so much better if the navigation was available in miniature as a widget forthose drives when seeing the navigation in full screen isn’t required. 4. There needs to be an option to add other apps to the list of choices, such as radio streaming apps. 5. Steering wheel controls for the head unit should be programable from the app. 6. Screen background “live” options should be integrated with whatever content is playing. 7. Provide an option to not be alerted when the connection to the device (head unit) is lost. I’m pretty sure most people know when they’ve just turned their vehicle off. It’s just another annoying popup. 8. Microphone volume control. Where is it?

Functions OK, but a little unstable. Have been using this for about 8 months now. Connecting wirelessly etc was always a bit unstable and iffy. Recent update has improved this somewhat. But the same update removed functionality and features that I used and liked. The clock and speedo are gone and no option to bring them back, as well as the animated backgrounds which I really enjoyed, would really like to see all of the above bought back.

Terrible. Would give this app minus star rating if able, one star is too much. Could not get app to connect with iOS 13.9 at all it just keeps on crashing. I would have thought that a company like Pioneer would have a super slick interface that completely enhances the overall customer experience and truly value adds their product, sadly this is not the case with this app with the overwhelming consensus being poor quality/interface. Come on Pioneer you can do much better than this, it’s time to sack your app development team and go back around the buoy on this one.

Needs serious work. Because this app is tied to a companion product, any shortfall with the dev makes for a frustrating car stereo experience. Nice idea but needs some time and commitment to the build- the design and UX are archaic. I wish I’d opted for a more ‘traditional’ stereo and didn’t listen to dream that the CES reviews projected.

Update. Can we get an update on this? It’s a phone app surely can’t be that hard to improve it.

New look, same problems. They have just gone to the effort of making the interface all shiny and new but it still freezes when trying to connect and constantly asks for permission to do so. Priorities Pioneer, priorities.

Useless. This app is so useless. One minute opens when I connect to the deck and then nothing. Buy another brand deck if this is the garbage tech you’re forced to use.

Good to start with. Great to do set up with, but then you’ll be using another app ie messages banking gaming etc and turn the system on or go near it and suddenly your on this app twice in a row while doing other stuff

App crashes. Having same issue with app crashing and not being able to connect app to receiver, please fix ASAP Apple iPhone X Max 12.1

Please add volume controls and volume percentage of unit on the app. It’s a great app I use it for my pioneer head unit in my car and have an iPad mini connected to it permanently i dont think I have had a single issue with it. But what would make it more perfect is if it had volume controls of the pioneer unit on the app as well and to see the percentage of volume on the app just in case for those who have their phone or tablet cover the head unit screen. Please do this in the next update and the app would be perfect 👌🏻👌🏻 Thanks 😁

Iphone mssgs dont work. Whenever i press on messages it dosent read my iphone mssg but instead watsapp, please fixxx

App is awesome. Despite a lot of people saying the app doesn’t function properly, I’ve never had any trouble with mine in the 2 years I’ve owned it and have just purchased another unit for a different car. However, the new update is terrible! Definitely preferred the old interface with speedo and alt, it also had more customisable options and I found it easier to use while driving. One of the major benefits of having your head unit interface on your phone is the customisation ability and you’ve pretty much taken that away now 🤷‍♂️

Brought for the gps Speedo. Brought the headunit and installed it, loved the idea over the gps Speedo and it was a big selling point for me, as my old car isn’t 100% accurate. Quite disappointed that was removed in the latest update Would like to see it come back

Version 3 is awful!. PIONEER! What were you thinking?! This new version 3 is appalling. What’s more- it’s made the app dangerous to use on the road! That nice big picture of the album cover that acted as an easy-touch pause-play button has been reduced to a tiny icon that I now have to take my eyes off the road to see. No more carefree reaching over a mashing the center of the screen to pause the music- now I have to look over and find the offcenter pause icon and zero my finger in on it. What was wrong with the dynamic backgrounds that meshed beautifully with the colour-changing lights on the physical unit? My son loved watching the colours dance across the screen. Now it’s a boring static colour. The grid button on the unit no longer works as it’s supposed to- it should return the app to the main screen from any other screen, but now it only does that if you’re on the settings screen. I could go on and on but I’m actively trying to find a way to downgrade the app to the previous version. Please, Pioneer, bring back the old UI in its entirety. You can fix bugs but let us enjoy using the app. This new UI is NOT innovative; it’s a pain and a major disappointment. The only plus is that now it’s easier to bring up the track list for the current album or playlist. And that plus is immediately lost by only being able to show six albums or playlists on the screen at a time because the rest is taken up by the albums’ names in a giant font. People know what the album is by the picture of the album cover. We aren’t dense. If I had known, years ago when I paid so much to purchase the unit and have it installed, that the app would become so much of an absolute pain to use, I’d never have spent the money to start with.

Works great but connection is a problem. I use this app with a SPH-C10BT head unit. It works great all the functions are well laid out & the UI is easy to use...... however every time I turn the car on the app & head unit require a manual connection. When I first got the app it would auto connect no problem at all, but since the latest update every time I turn the engine off or start up the app comes up with a “connection lost” warning & I have to perform a manual connection, VERY ANNOYING!!!

Absolute rubbish. It would be a great idea If the app actually worked. Never connects to my phone and the single din unit is basically just a glorified radio without any functionality. Do yourself a favour and don’t bother, If I could give less than one star I would..

Version 3.0.0 is rubbish. This was a really good app, until the UI was changed, resulting in smaller text, a more segmented screen and a darker background that increases screen reflection. Now I can barely use it when I’m in my car

Good until now. Everything worked perfectly but now somehow even if the Bluetooth connection work, the app is unusable - stuck on the unconnected main page. For now this app is worthless. Can’t wait you guys fix that. Was really cool when everything worked!

Rubbish. App crashes. Every time I start car I have to delete the app it never connects successfully. Absolutely furious. Spent money on a new radio and installation on a “flagship” sph-c10bt and it is essentially a brick as it never connects. Pioneer I want my money back. Worst product.

Dangerous GPS problem with App. I’m using iOS 16.2 on iPhone 13. Every time I have a voice instruction from my GPS App (Waze) the phone jumps to the main screen of the App. Then, I have to manually scroll to the GPS. EVERY TIME. Very dangerous for an App that suppose to make driving a safe experience. PLEASE FIX URGENTLY!

Get rid of the disconnect message. Every time I turn off my car it says “Connection with the in-vehicle device lost”

Voice calling. Cant call anyone from the voice dial within the app, cant you make it work off siri or alexa as they work perfectly fine, its dangerous trying to select contacts please make this more uses friendly especially being unable to add contacts

App Crashing. I have a IPhone X running IOS 12.1 And every time I open the app and it asks to agree with the regulations and road rules the app crashes. Developer can you please help Thanks

Good app with the right head unit. Purchased this head unit today Pioneer Smart Sync DIgital Media Player - SPHC10BT And download the App. I couldn’t be happier, it works seamlessly with the head unit. I was sceptical as I read the other reviews but honestly its works very well. I’ve also noted there has been many app revisions and maybe now have sorted it out. I don’t do reviews but thought I needed to ad some balance... this is a good thing and for $180 the head unit was a bargain!

Very poor connection and does not sync properly. Bought a single din unit to replace my alpine in order to use Spotify in the car. What a mistake. Now can’t make phone calls from the car unit as the phone book returns empty addresses. You have to find contacts from the phone and make the call then the hands free activates. In the beginning I could occasionally browse Spotify playlist from the unit, but that was intermittent. Now can’t do that either. If i have Spotify open on the phone the device pairs and plays whatever I have playing on the phone at the time. I can change songs by skipping but not change playlist. The setting keeps saying device is not connected. Very poor don’t recommend.

thanks to listen the people.. thanks to bring back some old settings and fix a few bugs, is not perfect but is easy to play around now happy to get back the settings. Only issue i still find always calls need to press bluetooth icon to be able to work on the call it should do straigh foward hopefully will be fix in a a new update.

Good concept... but. I chose the single sin unit because of this app. My phone is a better than any double din unit operating system and can be updated far more easily than a whole stereo. I used the app for 3 months. It made setup and customising of the stereo so much easier. Colour and display settings are a breeze. I usually give up trying because it’s just to difficult. I like the shortcut from the unit to start the mapping software without searching through the phone. Beyond that... it took far to long for the app to start and then allow the Bluetooth to connect. If my music started before the app, allowing the app to start would turn the music off. I then had to open the music app to make it work again. The confirmation screen is more distracting than using the phone to make a call whilst driving. Needs to go! In the 3 months I didn’t read it once because its in fine print. Stupid idea for a warning to not use the phone whilst driving. The main screen is ok but has very little to customise. Stuck with what the stereo is playing, a clock, and Speedo/altimeter. It would be good if I could add an OBD2, TMS or dash cam, anything! to the main screen. To summarise, once you’ve setup the colours etc for the unit, delete the app. Every is faster and works just fine.

Rubbish. I never normally do reviews, but this app pisses me off. Had the system for a couple of years, worked great. Now, for no reason, even though I can connect via Bluetooth, the app doesn’t connect. Doesn’t work with either my phone or my iPad. Haven’t got a clue why. The iPad was the first to set with the head unit when I installed it. Everything is up to date. Junk!

Pretty good. Just had this installed in my car with the SPH-C10BT head unit and ND-PS1 parking sensors. The app is working OK but there is one huge annoyance I haven’t been able to work around yet - every time the app starts up and the audio source is set to “App Audio” (i.e. whatever is already playing on my iPhone such as SoundCloud) it interrupts that and plays the first song from my iTunes music library on the phone EVERY TIME My old Denon head unit did the same thing if my iPhone wasn’t playing anything and I plugged it in via USB cable but at least it didn’t interrupt app audio that was already playing

Forgets connection iPhone 11. Worked great with iPhone 6… says no device even when connected before. Tried clearing Bluetooth and restore on both devices. So every time I have to pair again from the start or plug in with wired USB. So annoying. Pls update software. Works well with Spotify but little for audiobooks.

Disappointing. The app before the update had a Home Screen that showed time/altitude/speed and music in a large readable format. This was very helpful and now it only shows the song being played with icons on each side. Bring back the old Home Screen!

In theory it’s good, but isn’t. I bought this unit (sph-c10bt) because it has the phone holder built in and I thought it should be better then I normal single din unit but it isn’t, it doesn’t even have Spotify built in to the app? That’s what most people will be using this headunit for and despite Spotify being the last thing I used as soon as I turn on my car the Pokémon theme song starts blasting away because for some reason it thinks that’s what I want to hear, it isn’t, I either want nothing to be plying automatically or my Spotify to be playing automatically and when I am playing Spotify and I go into something else and come back out it stops playing Spotify and starts playing the Pokémon theme song again so I have to jump out of the pioneer app and find Spotify again and play Spotify, I have never bought pioneer in my life, I have never been a fan but the one time I do I get this? I sell car audio and needless to sell I won’t be recommending this unit to my customers anymore until this software is better, this unit has the potential to be so good yet i would rather a standard cheap Bluetooth headunit at half the price over this

Painful. Manual re-connection required every time, have to delete BT device and reconfigure every... time.... I.... drive..... A real pain. Sometimes doesn’t even connect. Gutted as I was very close to buying a different brand and now I’m stuck with this. Clumsy app, doesn’t auto rotate, unless you undock from the holder, restart the app and then re-dock. Not a fan of the start page, just want plain and simple not pages that look like adverts. I’m my mind its a pretty bad effort at something that could have been amazing.

New phone now doesn’t work. Upgraded to a 12 and now the music doesn’t play automatically like it did with the 10. It also isn’t connecting properly so I can’t change any settings.

Bluetooth and app opening speed. This unit is a great idea but I have to pair my iPhone XR every time I start the car up. Also the length of time from turning on your car to the smart sync app can run into minutes sometimes. I actually had nearly finished a run to the shops before the app hard turn on..

Dumb Sync. Like other reviewers, app crashes. Continually have to manually connect every time I start car, hopeless.

Speedometer. Why did you remove it? One of the reasons I bought a radio with this app. App windows over lapping in landscape mode, poor design

Version 3.0 destroys the whole experience.. The app WAS pretty good (3-4 stars). With quick short cuts to my radio presents and it LOOKED like an interface suited for driving. Now version 3.0 out and it is awful (and I’m an ex interface designer. Changing preset stations is almost dangerous as its not ‘right there’. Plus the clear clock and excellent GPS speedometer are gone! When an app is LESS functional and more cluttered than the last version, you know someone’s stuffed up royally. 😢

Why change what was working. I purchased this unit because of the screen view which was split into three with what was needed ,now now it is absolutely useless

Good but frustrating. App use to work great on Bluetooth. Now it will only connect the app wired, so can’t get it on Bluetooth. Yet my phone will sync to the radio via Bluetooth without hesitation. All n all, if you can get it to connect or wired. It’s a cool app. 3/5 starts

App problem. it worked fine when i first got it, then one day for some reason the app wont connect to the radio i’ve went threw everything they have provided should this happen and nothing works

Really worth it!. This is the closest you can get to a useful car based media player. Really close to perfection if it continues to evolve.

Nothing better than an app that requires you to hard reset your radio regularly!. Pioneer is a large electronics corporation, you would think they would test this app before pushing it out. When it works, it’s pretty good. When it doesn’t, there is no way you’ll be able to reconnect without fully resetting the radio to factory defaults! Expect to do this at least weekly! Bluetooth range is terrible. Only 5ft ( I’m using my radio in a boat so I won’t always be within 18 inches of the radio!!!). Having to reset your radio weekly gets old really quick! It might be tolerable until they fix the issues if there was a way to backup your settings. Generally the app and radios that “support” this app are not ready to be sold.

Ugh new update is garbage. Wow.... you guys took an incredible app and flushed it down the drain, the new update sucks, give us an option to get back to the old one ....

Doesn’t connect anymore. Needed to download the app to use the bluetooth radio in a rental car. Worked fine to connect the first time, but afterwards it wouldn’t work anymore, no matter what I tried. Seems like a lot of extra unnecessary steps just to connect your phone to a car radio. Hopefully this is only on older models and Pioneer makes regular bluetooth radios now!

Smart Sync. Not impressive as you have to pair the phone every time you get into the car. It has problems with more than one phone. The Smart Sync app doesn’t work

Great app. Works perfectly, easy to control plus comes ready for the parking sensors....but you should add the rear view cam software, instead of having another screen, if we could connect the cam directly with the app it would be great

Works pretty good. Wasn’t sure what to expect with so many negative views, but I can honestly say “Why the negative reviews?” I have had this for over a year now, and everything works as it should....lots of adjustability, clear Bluetooth (even with the top down) and have NEVER had to reboot it or lose settings. Maybe I have just been lucky, but I find this app great.....adding Alexa was good too, as I use that in all my other vehicles as well.

Alt and Speedo?. Why not let me choose what I really need on the screen?

No better than a Bluetooth radio without app. The radio and app work, but not great. It’s not an improvement over a Bluetooth radio with no app. I use Spotify and have to leave the app to see playlist and song info and can’t play pause it from the dashboard. No album art. Less appealing. I agree with the person about about being able to have a more customizable home page, or at least a better home page, I don’t need my altitude or speed on my dashboard. I struggle with voice command, I’ll want to call someone but am in the music portion of the app and it won’t recognize that I want to call someone and ask me to speak artist name or song title. So you can’t just be anywhere you like and want to call someone with the voice recognition button.

Terrible app!. Stay away from this app and system! We have had this for a year in our van and almost every day I have to re configure it!!!! It sucks!!!!!

Blue tooth works decent, app is challenging to sync. This app is touch and go. When the SmartSync app actually syncs, the equalizer and audio controls are great to customize the sounds on your car/Bluetooth audio. More often than not the app is unable to connect. And despite refreshing Bluetooth, deleting and re downloading the app, it doesn’t not sync. Blue tooth does play fine via the pioneer deck. If the app connection/integration to IPhone was improved this would be a great app.

Worse upgrade!!. I thought that when you upgrade the product will be better or at least an improvement. This wasn’t an improvement or made it better. It worse and now the app looks so cheap and was not giving the proper time to be developed into something better. Who ever approved this app for distribution needs to be fired!! I rather have the old one than this cheap retroactive app!

New UI looks great, but my car info?. With the new update, it makes it easier to listen to music, but I lose a very important aspect of why I use the app daily. Having the car information of how I fast I am going (MPH/KMH) was very important. Please bring that part back?

Just... Needs Completely Re-vamped.. I figured this would be a great app & add on for my radio but the only thing great about this app is the fact I can fine tune the sound settings with the app. The app is otherwise clunky, ugly, and outdated. The fact that I have to play my music through this app is the worst. Please fix.

Great idea. Great idea but it would work much better if it had an auto Bluetooth connection instead of defaulting to iTunes…very annoying. I have to stop my car every morning and afternoon, turn off iTunes, and turn on what I like to listen pandora, audible etc

New update is missing all the features. Please return to the original layout. I purchased this radio because the app showed the speedometer, clock and alt features. They are all gone. I am very disappointed and will have to get a new one. This should not be the way Pioneer works. I would like my money back for the radio.

It’s okay.. There’s a handful of bugs and connection issues but I’ll say it can play my music 90% of the time. To change the balance on my music is simple and this there’s a lot of potential in this app.

Needs actual iPhone integration. Voice control straight up doesn’t work. Messages is a joke, I can’t even respond to them. Needs iMessage and Siri integration. Biggest frustration is that i can’t control my EQ with the Apple Music enabled, I can’t even view the list of music with Bluetooth streaming

Update for iPad. Please update the app so I can use the app full screen on my iPad because there is a lot of bugs when I run the app because I think is not 100% compatible with the iPad

Pioneer app whew. All it’s missing is a weather app. This is just a stand up pioneer boy app included. Still Sounds great!!

New version fantastic. I really like the new version of this app. I have it a while before I wrote the review. The things I didn’t like are gone and the new UI has a fantastic look to it. Bravo!

I would not buy again. You have no sound field controls without using the app and it appears that you can make sound field changes playing music over Bluetooth. Disappointing head unit and app leaves much to be desired. if you were considering this head unit, Keep shopping

Plex connect PLEASE!. Every time I get into my vehicle and connect it brings up the Apple Music app (which I never use), even when I’d previously been connected to my Plex app. Perhaps I haven’t figured this out yet but it’s annoying to have to close the Music app EVERY time I get in my vehicle.

Worked well…. Once. Installation was easy and no problems but the app is basically worthless. I’ve just been using Bluetooth to listen to music, but that means I don’t have access to the equalizer and other functions. Thinking of pulling out the pioneer and putting the old stereo back in and finding something better.

Only connects for 2 seconds. Very difficult to use. I didn’t have high expectations and it didn’t even meet my lowest one. Cannot connect the app. Bluetooth audio works normally. App connectivity doesn’t exist. Would give zero stars if possible.

An “unfortunate” app. Previous versions worked well for me, although I never actually used the app, it was just the only way to connect Bluetooth. The June 2019 release makes me have to “forget” and “re-pair” my phone each time I get in the car. If the app can’t really do the ONE thing it was designed to do, then what is it actually good for???

iOS 13 with pro Max. Just received the pro max and I can not get the app to open automatically. The app will not work at all. I can connect Bluetooth but that’s it. Worked great with the iPhone X. Not sure who’s at fault for this but I hope it’s fixed immediately.

Needs major improvement. The app should not try to invent new features. Just use what's on my IPhone. I don't need Pioneer Voice recognition. IOS 14.8 rendered the App useless. Cannot connect to my phone anymore. Bluetooth works, but no features. It would be nice to be able to have different volumes for music, alerts and traffic prompts.

Bluetooth won’t connect on iPhone 8. I have this unit on my Harley and loved it but now my Bluetooth won’t sync up. My wife went with me on the last ride and her newer phone synced up just fine. I wish they could update so I don’t have to buy a new phone to use…

Garbage. I started using this app now the bt connection disconnects. If I can’t fix this today . I’ll have to take out this head unit and one from your competitors. And you will loose a 35 year customer. App says updates are available but not for the his unit . FYI I will be taking all pioneer products out of all vehicles and going with a competitor.

Garbage App!. Since your latest app update this app has gone to crap. It no longer connects and when it did the one time it dropped and now is impossible to connect again. The search device button never lists anything. PLEASE FIX IT!!! I wouldn't even leave one star if I had a choice.

Broken App. Since this update I can no longer connect the head unit (SPH-B10) to the app. Bluetooth audio works, sometimes. Please fix this. iPhone XS software fully updated. Addendum: after I reset the head unit to Initial and unpaired, deleted the Bluetooth connection then re-paired the app to the head unit I got it to work.

Works great. Never had it glitch on me..really appreciate that it doesn’t start playing whenever u first hop in ur vehicle

Dangerous. The app activates after your car is already on the move, and then you’re forced to unlock your phone and hit ok on two different prompts before your music app is allowed to function again It’s a terrible, dangerous design.

Why is it so buggy?. One day, this just stopped working! Now I’m outside of my return period and I’m stuck with a stereo with poor setting controls because it’s supposed to work with the app. I’ve tried everything and it will not connect to my head unit. Come on guys, work these bugs out!!

Bugs. Ive been trying to adjust audio settings and seems to only work when it wants to. Ill be adjusting then next thing it no longer lets me make changes please fix this issue please! This update is not exciting at all. In the previous version, it was much easier to change the tracks. In this version, more attention should be paid to the Next button to change the song.

Cant even use it. Would rate zero stars if i could. Every time i go to connect to my radio the app crashes. Ive tried deleting and reinstalling the app. Restarting the radio. Restarting my phone. NOTHING works. Can’t connect to Bluetooth now and, unfortunately the usb port doesn’t double as an aux cord so I cant play music from my phone or listen to navigation. Wish this app was better.

Bad App NOW. Before last year update my music use to start playing in my car seconds after I start up. “Now” it last up to 45 seconds or more for app to automatically connect☹️. It always say connect app then after almost a minute it comes on. I do not like this app nor this pioneer radio anymore. I’m tired of pairing again and again.

Joke. I was really looking forward to controlling my EQ and other settings from my phone but this app has been built by caged brain damaged monkeys. CRASHES SINGLE TIME. And it's made for my radio. I will say that although my iPhone crashes without fail, my mom's older iPhone 5 works with this app and my stereo. So to the programmers, look up"bug testing" on Wikipedia before you release a completely useless app.

Does anyone make a stereo with Bluetooth that works?. This app and pioneer stereos seem like crap. Now days every connects to a stereo using smart phones. This app is the main manner to connect to the stereo but it disconnects and doesn’t reconnect properly. The main menu or dashboard doesn’t come back sometimes even though I hear the music playing off my iPhone.

The update is not better. I much preferred the app before the update. I’ve read through the instructions on this new update but nothing works like it says it’s supposed to. This update is NOT more intuitive but I’m stuck with it or I can’t use my flipping radio. Just go back to the way it was before.

Is this really from Pioneer?. What happened to the main screen with the date, time of day, altimeter and speedometer? Other than navigation this was the only redeeming quality of this app. This app gets more and more useless with every update. Started out good.. I don’t know what’s going on with this app. Doesn’t want to even connect with my radio. Like at all. And it’s brand new. It was working perfectly. It would sync as soon as I turned on my car. Then I had to do it manually. Now. It doesn’t even connect. Please fix. New update please. Thank you.

BUGGY TRASH. On the last app update I’ve lost all playback from my phone. Radio doesn’t even work when the phone is plugged in. Fn BS!! Before that... you have to click to accept the caution msg on every startup, then switch back to your music app. Then Bluetooth doesn’t connect so you have to do it manually every time if you want hands free calling to work later during your drive. This is just JUNK! My 11 year old Pioneer head works great in our other vehicle with “dumb” usb, but I’m really disappointed in my new “smart” Pioneer DEH-S5120BT. SHAME ON YOU PIONEER!!!

Does not work on iOS 15. I have an iPhone 11 PM and I’ve followed every instruction to connect to the app and nothing. Normal Bluetooth works but bought it to connect with the app like it’s intended I even updated to the latest software version for the stereo and nothing. This app needs better support

Are you serious?. One of the most unpleasant experiences with an app! I lost Bluetooth connection, and whenever i get out of the music list i have to scroll all over again to reach to the folder i was already in. Definitely needs improvements. Fix the music list issue!!!

Not working properly. Something ls wrong with the app it’s not working right the doesn’t sync like it supposed to and the screen were you can control all the app doesn’t pop up any more and it also keeps saying app is not connected but it doesn’t want to connect or link up right. Tried to uninstall it and reinstall but it still doesn’t work right. Is there a fix for it

What happened?. Who was stupid enough to call this an update? I’ll change my review when it goes back to displaying time, eq, compass on the background I enjoyed. This is not an update but a downgrade. Beginning to think it might be about time to get rid of the head unit and go to something a bit better than a look that my 3 yr grandson could have designed better

IT NOW WORKS!!!. After FINALLY being able to update my head unit “DEH-S7200BHS” the app works flawlessly. Even better than when I first got it.

App doesn’t connect when I use the app menu. This app needs some work it connects to my iPhone X sometimes but not all the time it gets annoying trying to connect over and over again

Re pairing Bluetooth note. I updated firmware 8.27 and app 4.0 on Feb 2022. You have to clear both Bluetooth entries when re pairing. I took long time to figure out. Otherwise Bluetooth never can pair. After search device and select my model, nothing happen if not cleared.

iPhone upgrade. I created a new Bluetooth sync after iOS 14 upgrade to Pioneer car receiver.

I want a refund. Just bought another unit for my daughters car. Until that crap version ruined everything! She was enjoying it last week and now she hate it so much and so as I. Whoever created these new version must be terminated. You’ll loose a lot of income beacuse of that 3.0 crap. Bring back the old one! What a downgrade... Hire a new one that has good creative idea.

It works great ! I have no idea why the low reviews??. The app works flawless on my new pioneer stereo . The app has a bit of learning curve tho. My stereo has a 31 band EQ that can be setup on the fly. Crossover control is good but lags at times when changing settings iPhone 11

App disconnects every time I shut the engine. I am troubled with the radio because it disconnects to the phone and every time I close the engine. To reconnect I have to forget the device first and then reconnect it in the app which is frustrating - and can be serious distraction if I need hands free calling while driving.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU AGREE TO!!!!. This app collects insane amounts of data - INCLUDING YOUR LOCATION - and reports it back to Yahoo! for all sorts of ambiguous purposes. Use this app and they’ll know more about your habits than your mommy. It would be really nice if some manufacturer provided an app that makes the product you bought more useful without making money selling your information to third-parties. Pioneer - I’m returning the head unit I just bought. Go pound salt.
