Great Lakes Boating Weather App Reviews

Very useful app!. This is an easy to use marine app that provides weather and wave info for the Great Lakes. It will become my go to app this summer! I'd encourage the developer to find a way to allow it so work in landscape mode on the iPad.

NOAA Marine - Great Lakes. This App allows quick, written, NOAA information on the exact areas you want to boat, verses having to "wait" for the marine radio to supply you with the general NOAA information of the area that you would like to boat at.

Great App!. A must if you boat in the Great Lakes!

Buoy Data. Information I found most useful when I first got this app is the Buoy Data which no longer loads. About a month ago the screen just keeps trying to load but never does. Very disappointing.

Great go to app. Thanks for the current update. Live where 3 of the Great Lakes meet, so good for weather and outdoors activity. Look forward to future update. Know NOAA takes their water buoys out in December, but would like to see winter Forecasts like lake effect snow and ice buildup on Great Lakes if it gets cold enough

Not Impressed. Looking for help about the weather for our fishing trip, downloaded app, paid 2.99, but didn’t get the info we were looking for…

Free National Weather Service site beats it hands down.. Not sure what this app is for. Go to NWS.org, input a city near your boating location, and click in the water on any map, and if it’s available, NWS will give you the same info, and it’ll give it to you in portrait or landscape. The NWS options are much more complete, and buoy data is much better displayed.

Not accurate!. Recently downloaded app. Just checked app after receiving a Marine warning on the Weather channel. There is NO indication of a storm on the app. And no notice of severe weather. I refreshed the app several times and still nothin to indicate bad weather, small craft warning, lightening and high winds. Not worth the $2.99.

Buoys don’t work. Kind of a waste of money. I live 90 miles from Lake Michigan and would like to know wave conditions before leaving the house. Those are not working.

Erie, PA. This app is very helpful as the marine forecast can be checked against the current buoy data.

Best Great Lakes sea conditions app yet.. I've used several in the past. This is stable and easy to use. Nice job.

Wave data. There needs to be wave data from yr bouys. I would have given a higher rating otherwise

Great App for boating. I check this app before I go out fishing and I have been pleased with the accuracy. The forecast function is great because you can scout out the best times to hit the water in advance!

Disappointed. Looking for winds and water temperatures for specific harbors and areas from Chicago to Sturgeon Bay. This app is way too general.

Love the app. I can plan my fishing with this app. Like to see not only the wave height but the swell height as well.

Inaccurate, unreliable info!. App is useless. For example, for Lake Erie (west) no matter what winds are forecasted app says “waves one foot or less.” Duh!! Lake Erie does not have one foot waves with winds gusting to 20 mph.

Perfect for us at Superior, WI. Covers our region as well as NOAA

Mostly wrong. Nothing like being on the water in 6’waves and your app says 1’ or less.

Marine Forecasts. For me personally, this has been the most useful Lake Erie forecast tool to date.

Good for Florida too :). Got a couple of apps from this author and have to say I'm impressed with his desire to satisfy his customers. I wanted to see wave height (buoy data) and marine conditions and forecast (NOAA) in one app. I did not get that but he was able to point me to this Great Lakes app he wrote that also shows FL marine conditions. I give it 4 stars, and hope to see future app with it integrated. Eric

Simple App. I use many apps to check weather while boating and this app is very quick and responsive to get NOAA weather on the fly. Great App

CC 33 SS. Excellent, accurate, real time boating information. Larger print on the buoy data page would be easier to see when using an IPhone.

Just what I was looking for. This is a great app. I've been looking for wave predictions from an app for a while this is great. I'll have more once I know for sure how accurate it is. Works great and the nice thing is I put the app on my wife’s device and she loves it. Being on Lake Erie things change quickly.

Excellent boating and weather app.. Very easy to use. Has all the information one needs to plan a safe boating trip. I use it as my weather app as it gives detailed and accurate forecasts over several days.

Great App. This is my “go-to” app for boating on Lake Michigan. Data is always accurate & up to date. The presentation of data is very intuitive, logical, & functional. Can’t go wrong here.

Finally after multiple bs apps. Simply tells exactly what you NEED to know. Wave height, wind speed, and chance of rain. Don't screw around with others.

Seaway. Worst ever ; total waste of $$

Great AP for Great Lakes Sailors. This is very cool. Give a great summary relevant to boaters by touching your location in the screen. You can see wave height for the bouts near you. When I wasn’t sure what wave period was I emailed a question and Will wrote me back within a few minutes with a detailed article from surfology. Buy it, definitely a good AP, especially for the money.

Helpful for boating Superior. Got this to check what the weather and waves are like on Lake Superior before I make the one hour boat pull down to her. Nice cause it has the buoys info if they are online telling you the real time wave height. Radar for weather built in as well to see if any storms role in, and even charts for depth and hazards. The info this provides for safe travels is well worth the $2.99.

Great App. Really like the App. Gives good data for more days than others I use it for Lake Michigan There was an issue last night and the developer responded quickly. Nice to have that kind of support

Waves 1 ft or less?. I’m in Northern lower Michigan on Lake Michigan. Every report is waves of 1 ft or less, yet I’m watching waves crash over the break wall in Leland. Does not give me great confidence as a lake tool.

Quick Marine Weather. A quick look at the marine weather for a point on the map. Use this to navigate up and down the west coast of Michigan. Not sure the wave by prediction is always accurate, but maybe it’s my imagination let the waves are 1 foot larger than they expect. The one complaint I have is that a weather alert pops up every time I launch the app or change the point. But I have yet to figure out how to see what the NWS alert is for.

Water temp. Cannot find what I need

Nothing’s updated. Why did I just pay for an app and nothing’s updated? Waist of my money.

Excellent and reliable weather and buoy reports. I like this app for four main reasons: 1. The text forecast is concise, simple, and accurate. It tells me wind, temperature, and general conditions. 2. NWS alerts are posted every time the app launches. 3. The buoy data provides near-real-time sea conditions. This let’s me know ahead of time if I should venture outside of the Buffalo, NY breakwater. 4. The discussion tab gives great and accurate insight into forces causing weather conditions over the next 72-96 hours. This is the best weather app I have used so far. I rely on it daily during the summer.

Great app. This app gives you a very clear view of the marine forecast. You will like this app if you want to know the forecast before going out on the water.

Great App for Boating. I’ve been using this app for the last two years. It’s great for getting wave height updates. I’ve got a smaller boat, so wave height and trends are important. This app is always right on!

Updated review. I reviewed this app when it was brand new and didn’t have anything that wasn’t available on other apps. It just keeps adding features and now I use only this and Windy. Great job with the updates!

US Only. This app would have been great if I lived in the USA. Unfortunately they did not indicate that Canadian forecasts we’re not available. I just wasted $3.99
