Great app. I’ve used this app series since the first iteration and this one offers a unique, clean interface with easy to understand budget tracking. I have tried many of these apps over the years and finances beat them all a long time ago. With iOS 14 though a widget would be greatly appreciated.

Not user friendly. Impossible to use really

Sync Erased All My Transactions. I had many transactions and got erased while syncing with my Mac. Several days have gone by since my email to customer support and nothing. Honestly, if you cannot recover your info and you will be afraid to sync it means this app is not dependable. Excel may not be as pretty but I am going back to it and asking my money back. It is a shame since I was going to purchase the Mac version as well. Glad I was on trial.

Beautifully crafted. The app design is intuitive and aesthetically pleasing. While the app may not have many features, it’s very good at what it does and has a solid foundation. It’s up to date with iOS and macOS features, it’s nice to see the developer cares about this project.

Misleading business model.... You download the app, no cost. You then get to a screen that forces you to purchase, or purchase a 14 day trial - which is zero cost you still get pushed through the in-app purchase process. Nothing you can do without going through that process. Misleading.

Do not use. I have spend months putting All of my tax info in Finances 1 under several different Journals, today I log in and get a message saying App is Damaged , delete app and reinstall. I’m do frustrated. I do not recommend this app. Whats to keep finances 2 from doing the same. I’m not able to log in to Finances 1 and link my date to new app. Looks like I will need to pay again also for the updated app.

Do not like this app would like a refund!!. I purchased this app and it is to complicated to use. I have not used this app at all. Can I get a refund and search for a new budget app?

Good app design, terrible app performance. The app is great in terms of features - only lacking multi-transaction / batch editing, which the developer reserves for the Mac version. But the battery impact is insane. Running this app on three different iPhone models, over multiple updates to both app & iOS, and it still gets the phone burning hot. It can drain nearly 80% of the 12 pro max battery in under 3 hours! Why editing text in a database is so resource heavy is not at all clear. Scrolling through transactions is laggy on the latest & fastest hardware, and the app crashes very frequently when editing transactions and making more than one or two changes.

A bit lost. This app seems to be what I’m looking for but I’m confused as to why it seems like a free app but after downloading and creating 1 journal I get the option for a 14 day trial or pay 4.99. I don’t mind paying if it is worth it so I shall make that decision after my trial time but I feel a bit deceived. I was comparing this app to free ones, now I need to reconsider and compare to paid apps. I could be getting something better at the same price with another app. I thought my search was over (keeping my fingers crossed that it is because I love the double bookkeeping) but sadly I don’t know now.

Original Expired so I lost everything.. I’ve had the original version of finances for years and always kept it backed up on my iCloud. I switched phones, and both the old and the new one downloaded, but can no longer access my saved information because that older version “expired”. So I’ve lost years of financial data, even though I had purchased the full version. Finances 2 does link to the first and can not recover the lost data either. I hated the format of the new one and never started using it. You’d think if we purchased an app we wouldn’t randomly lose all the data we paid to have stored in it.

Switched from Bluecoins (Android). This app is alright, I do not like how it limits the forcasting and how hot my phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max) can get after spending more than 15 minutes in the app.

Simple and to the Point!. Of all the finance apps on iOS, this is my personal favorite to use! Not only is it straight to the point, but there’s also no need to sign up for an account or sign up for a subscription! A one time payment and you’re good to go with all the features! Huge plus for how responsive the developer is!

Dislike. I loved the first version of this application but it said I needed to upgrade to add more monthly transactions so I did, and this app is nowhere near similar to the first app. I absolutely hate this version of the app and hopefully I get refunded or that was a waste of money.

Syncing Doesn’t Work. The app itself is great. It’s a good double entry accounting program. However, syncing does not work. The app hangs indefinitely when trying to restore a purchase. Syncing with iCloud works only a fraction of the time. The app seems to not receive updates anymore. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this app any longer.

Awwwwwwful.. I’ve used the OG Finance app for yeeeeeears and I denied the “upgrade” for months because I knew in my heart what I was doing what perfection. And one day opened my Finance App and it was EMPTY after yeeeeears of logging... this new App wouldn’t even acknowledge that I purchased this App before ... I REpurchased this app and it is utter BULL. It’s so difficult to navigate and does not lay my expenses or income the way it has done before... I regret paying The measly $5 for this Bull...

Good app. I’ve used this app since 2016 and I love it, I tested others apps and this is the one that works better for me. I had an issue on the last upgrade and the developer tried to help me but took so long to answer my emails. At the end I fixed by myself, this app crashes when you use big font size on the cellphone.

Getting used to program. Have to learn how to view individual transactions. Overall program has good concept once you understand it. Would love to see reports available per day profits instead of total

Very good app!. It very handy and very useful. Perfect app for college students. I wish to see the tags and more graph summary options in future iterations.

Unable to backup journal. Currently unable to backup the journal. The app crashes when trying to backup the journal.

Is the app EoL?. I love this app but it has been several years since there has been an update. Is the app at “end of life”?

Great app, very confusing system. I really want to use this app, it’s gorgeous! And the attention to detail is great. The UI is excellent, the cognitive overload of the budgeting system makes the UX unnecessarily hard

Easy to use. Great app. Very simple as long as you understand double-entry bookkeeping. Pleased to use it.

Best budget app for my workflow. This app finally does all the main things I need. Great iOS and Mac support, drag and drop receipts onto transactions, and shows my running balance into the future for scheduled transactions. It’s been hard to find something that hits all these points, and I’m glad to drop Quicken now for all my spending tracking. I do with it had support for stocks, as the underlying LedgerCI does offer this, but otherwise I am a very happy customer!!!

Best offline double entry accounting app. This is a very clean and beautifully designed app. There are a few other double entry accounting/bookkeeping apps for iOS. However, this stands out from the rest in terms of features and design. Navigation is very intuitive, adding transactions is very quick and easy (especially with contextually aware suggestions for Payee and Comment), good looking visualizations, and a variety of handy reporting options. There are some handy search shortcuts too (e.g. last week, month, etc). Searching is flexible in that you can search overall or specifically by the comment, payee, or by amount. I’ve been using the app on iOS and MacOS for almost 2 months now and am pretty satisfied. I’ve had iCloud sync fail (reporting an error but can’t quite recall it) but fixing it was simple. The developer has helpful guides and articles (about the app and double entry accounting in general) and a F.A.Q. One page talks about fixing iCloud. Another one for example talks about budgeting using envelope system (most apps you’ll see use this idea). I think it would be nice to have some additional statistics/insights that are human readable (e.g. you spent $300 more on shopping compared to last month). An additional nice to have is custom fields so one could have a transaction date and a posted date. My solution for this is just using the number field (phone number of Payee) as a date for the transaction. When I clear a transaction, I update the actual date field to it’s posted date. The above two are just that, nice to haves. I think this app is generally feature complete. The developer seems to be focusing on their other apps, which is fine given the above statement. Highly recommend trying the app out. There’s a 14 day trial with no feature restrictions so give it a shot.

Great app. Don't listen to these fools about manual entry. Anyways is it possible to add a password function? Don't want peeps seeing my stash you know. Also if we can sync when on the same wifi versus to iCloud or adding alternative syncing other then iCloud would be appreciated.

Best Financial Management App. Incredible app. Simple and effortless.

Awesome banking tool!. Bought all in app purchases they had. Couple things I wish to be changed though: Ability to do a “return” on an item quickly Slightly better UX on selecting where the money goes and comes from. Don’t really enjoy messing around with negative signs.

Thumbs down. Super confusing not really what I expected, however I will say they try to explain it as best as they can still just a bit of a headache

Manual entry?!?!. This app is more for someone who has a lot of time on their hands and can manually input every single transaction that comes in and goes out of their accounts I do not have the time nor is it intuitive enough to use for this purpose there are several other apps out that will grab the information from your account rather than you having to manually enter.

My budget app of choice. I cycled thru a bunch of budgeting apps before finally deciding on Finances. The manual control of accounts and expense categories really nailed it for me. It makes it easy to track every cent that flows in and out of my accounts, including repeating transactions. Its design is clean and fits well with the iOS aesthetic. Sync between devices, including Mac, is rock solid. I do feel like it's lacking in a few features. On the iPad, I wish it had even basic external keyboard shortcuts. Sub accounts in the list can’t expand and collapse like they can on the Mac. When editing a transaction, it would be smoother to remove the Edit button and just bring up edit controls if a parameter is tapped in the pop up window.

Excellent. This is definitely the best app that I have used to keep track of my finances. I like the fact that I have to enter all the transactions in myself. Doing it that way keeps me more accountable. Really! Like the syncing between iPhone app and Mac app. Only thing that I have an issue with is being able to add credit cards on here to keep track of balances. I am not sure how to do that, I messaged help and their instructions weren’t very user friendly. Only videos that I have found I like about it you have to pay for 🤦🏾‍♂️. Excellent app aside from that.

Solid Finance App. Finances 2 is a solid, customizable, personal finance app. I appreciate the ease of use and the smart automatic "double-entry" system. It just makes simple sense to enter a transaction once and have it auto-deduct from the source(s) of payment. I also appreciate that I can solidly track and back up my personal financial information—on my own terms—without having to rely on releasing my day-to-day banking information to "free" third party financial apps. For a variety of reasons, I prefer NOT to willingly hand over my financial information (to organizations beyond my own banking institutions) to then have it be mined for data in order to market and target financial sales and other products back to me. There's enough of that craziness going on. And finally I am not interested in paying monthly fees to balance my personal and business finance. That's just not necessary with easy capture and entry systems; smart tools like Finances 2.

Lacking. Lacks a lot of helpful features that was in the old app such as ability to see and edit your repeated transactions. Lacks the charts and tables also. Thumbs up for diff currencies though. Wouldn't recommend this new version.

BGR said it was free but has $5 in app price. These article posts of paid apps now going free for a limited time is all click bait.

Just what I need!. This app looks fantastic. You can quickly add income or expenses. I really like the double-entries and the scans look great. I am impressed and it made it to my home screen! I'd like to see a real 'dark mode' instead of using Apple's Accessibility settings. It would be nice to have a widget as well. I also would like control over notifications. Add the ability to have some sort of reminders to check in on status of payments, reminder to enter invoices, etc. The main screen, showing the journals could be larger. I only have two journals and I somewhat have to try to make sure I tap on the correct one. Make them dynamic boxes possibly? I see that we can backup via iTunes or sharing to an app but I would love for there to be a backup option including automatic Dropbox syncing and the like. You can never have too many backups.

Too much for me.. I loved the free app but after I purchased this one it went way over my head and too much to learn. Im going back to the free app.

Perfect for my church budgeting processes. Been looking for a simple app that update budgeted accounts as I enter transactions. I basically have a combined checkbook & ledger & I only have to make one entry. Reports are easily generated & easy to read. The ONLY problem I have is I don’t have a way to open/print Transaction Reports because of their zip file format. Can someone address this?

So far, GREAT!. I haven’t had Finances for very long but so far it is the best app that I have found for my business as a DIY landlord. I will update my review after longer use. GREAT so far!!

Was great but abandoned by developer. I have used and loved this app for many years. I have thousands of transactions in it. Now that I realize that no more updates are coming, it’s time to move on. But now I see that the export to CSV does not work. It creates empty text files. So I’m not able to transfer data to a new app. Very frustrating.

Best app of its kind. I’ve been looking for a truly capable book keeping app like this for ages. It’s powerful and incredibly useful, but be warned that if you’re looking for a tool that doesn’t require much work on your end, there are probably better tools for you. I recommend manual book keeping in addition to whatever other finance management tools you use. Expensive, but worth it if you’re going to use it long term. I recommend trying it out before purchasing the full version or the macOS version.

Preferred Finances 1.. So frustrating to purchase a 14.99 upgrade to an app you use daily to find that it's totally unrecognizable and way more complicated than needed! Finances 1 was a way better app, and I will keep using until I find a better replacement.

Great Software. All it needs is a better way to reconcile with Bank of Credit Card statements.

Complicated. This may be great for some people but I found it very complicated. I wasted $ and can’t figure it out. I just wanted an app that I could take a picture of business receipts to track for taxes. But this is full blown finance which would be great for business owners and tracking personal finances. But not for just tracking business expenses.

Attachments Buggy. Reasonably good app and easy to use, but transaction attachments fail to sync reliably between Mac and iPhone. Suggested debug process may delete all attachments! I've had to restore them from Time Machine backups a couple of times. Developer rarely responds to issues. Generally support is poor. I am not sure if this app is still being developed or if bugs are being fixed.

Receipt scans randomly disappear. I’ve got tons of space on an upgraded iCloud account, yet my receipt scans seem to disappear on their own. Now I’ve got to find a new app that works properly, and plug in six months’ worth of data. Run away.

I love it!. This is exactly the finances app I've been looking for! Looking forward to Mac integration.

Still learning how best to use this software.. I have been retired for over 20 years. Our needs are: Use historical income and expense patterns to anticipate future needs. We have at least 8 years of good data. - Income is predictable and indexed to inflation. - Expenses are becoming more unpredictable as we get older. It looks like we will be able to develop predictable budgets and identify potential problem areas before they become serious. Retro fitting old data would be nice but haven’t figured out an efficient way to do that yet. Year by year might be good enough.

My favorite. (I wrote a 5-star review for this app that magically disappeared. I wonder why.) This app is great. I tried a bunch of others, and this was by far the most delightful to use and look at. The companion Mac app that syncs with iCloud is also stellar. My search for an expense tracker ended here. 💰 I highly recommend it!

Sync just never worked for 2 days in a row. Update after iOS 13: Account page width is even slimmer. I can’t see the full account name or balance (even more so than previous versions). Again, not holding my breath for a fix. — Please fix it. (I’m not holding my breath) Honestly by far the best and the most hassle free personal finance app. Bogged down by the lack of stability in sync — never lasted for more than two days before I have to reset it on my Mac or iPad. This is insane. I would otherwise recommend this app. More features I’d like to see: Reset balance to a certain amount (currently I need to manually calculate the difference and to adjustment), Collapse Level 2, 3 accounts (currently its a long list since I have so many accounts ranging in 4 currencies), and support for manual/automatic currency rate calculate and/or filtering. I touched JPY once and it will follow me everywhere in so many accounts. More: please add custom notifications. Again, not holding my breath.
