Fantastic!. This app can literately be a lifesaver! Among other things, it is indispensable for planning high elevation hikes to minimize the chance of getting caught on a summit in a thunderstorm. It is also great for planning the best date and time for any hike. The interface is the most intuitive I have ever seen. I just love this app.

Best Weather App. I love weather and have several apps on my my phone for different needs. OpenSummit reduces the need for all the various apps Ive collected. There forecasts are excellent and actually help me plan for outdoor trips, especially the detailed written forecasts. Living in the west, the smoke radar has been amazing and i havent seen anything comparable.

The best snow app is now even better. Everyone has forever just talked about Joel’s forecast while talking on the lifts. Now there’s an amazing new app that is a steal at $19 for 6-10 day forecast access & constantly improving. This group of guys love skiing and forecasting & it shows.

Reliable and comprehensive. Love the Open Snow app which is helpful year round. Even lets you see air quality due to big California wildfires. I rely on it, the excellent narratives and weather maps, and even road videos on the mountain freeway 80.

An excellent way to get summit weather predictions quickly. I’ve been using the app for all of my 14er’s this summer, and has been great. Quick and accurate up to date forecasts in seconds. Highest possible recommendation

Great apps. I subscribed to both these apps this past fall and I have appreciated having them many times. I’ve used them for snowshoeing, day-hiking and backpacking forecasts. I’ve also, unfortunately, used the smoke maps frequently the past few months. The forecasts are accurate and the apps are easy to navigate.

Do not get this app!. It’s rare that I am so angry that I feel the need to write a negative review but I have to comment. This is a standard weather app that gives basic information provided by the NOAA. The free version gives very little of this information and only for some trailheads and peaks. I purchased the all access subscription and found it to have the same information you can get for free with a slightly prettier presentation. DEFINITELY not worth $20! I went back and reread the glowing over the top reviews. They read like absurd marketing language. I am amused at the thought of the developers writing reviews to themselves and then answering them. This is not my beef. I tried to find the toggle to stop auto renewal that they claim exists but doesn’t seem to. I tried to downgrade to the free version but the button on the website to do so is nonfunctional both on my phone and desktop. I have emailed the company with no response.

Indispensable App for Hikers. I hike or summit peaks in Colorado year-round and this is my go-to app for planning and making sure I don’t get into dangerous or unpleasant weather situations. I love the five-day layout that color codes each day by the forecasted weather so I can tell at a glance when to plan my hikes. If I am going on a day of marginal weather, the hourly forecast has proved accurate and helpful to time my start and finish to avoid severe weather. I am impressed at how many peaks are covered by the forecast and always find one that is where or near I am going. This is a must-have app for any serious (or even casual) Colorado hiker.

Must-have tool. This resource is a must-have. I have the all-access pass with OpenSnow and Open Summit comes with it. Both are worth having by themselves. OpenSummit's peak-specific forecasts are a crucial tool in assessing mountain weather (along with other resources to confirm, of course). Cross-reference resources always.

Price increase not worth it. Love Open Snow so the $20/year was tolerable but now that they increased it, it’s just too expensive for $30/year for only wanting to use the one app. I get the added value of having both apps but Open Summit doesn’t do it for me and I’m not going to pay the higher price even if they try and justify it with the added app. Let me pay $15/year for Open Snow and it’ll be all good. Otherwise it’s back to printing out the reports from NOAA for free.

Best smoke and AQI. Best place I’ve found to see forecasts of smoke and air quality. It separates surface smoke and smoke aloft, and gives forecasts on a map for 18 hours. These seem quite accurate most of the time. This is just one of many things this app can do.

Great weather app. I use this app all the time to plan hikes, mountain bike rides and road rides. The temperature and precipitation forecasts have been invaluable to planning when and where to be in the mountains during the summer - and when to bring rain gear! Totally worth the subscription!

If you like to play in the mountains this is your app!. I am using the weather and map features to plan everything from bike rides to day hikes to backpacking trips. The satellite map overlay is awesome, and so is the basecamp feature with an at a glance look at your favorite mountains. Love this app!

Unmatched forecasting. I live on a large lake in northern Utah that seems to make it difficult to predict weather forecasts. Open Summit is the only source I use now to view upcoming storms and get reliable weather predictions. I really love the smoke (surface) overlay, and air quality forecast in summer months in order to plan for days that my children should play indoors. I love this app and am constantly sharing screenshots of maps to family and friends. Well worth the $20 annual fee.

Stellar weather app!. Outstanding weather forecasts with loads of additional features like air quality and smoke levels. This has become my go-to weather app for everything!

Great app. I religiously use OpenSnow and OpenSummit before any adventure (and even when I masochistically decide to check the weather while I’m stuck at my desk). They’re always coming out with new and inventive features, improving their forecasts, and app experience. These are must have apps for any outdoor sport or weather nerd.

Hiking in the Appalachian Mountains. I’ve used this app before about 5 hikes now and it’s proven to be accurate. The snow totals seems to be a accurate within an inch so far. For the price, it’s a great addition to my tool kit. Yes, this info is available elsewhere but this app consolidates its and gives you good visualizations.

Accurate and easy to use. I bought the app a month ago and hiked four 14ers in Colorado in four different ranges so far this month and the forecasts have been very precise. If you’re like me and hike 14ers all the time, this is worth the money and a must have. Highly recommend.

Great maps. I love the various maps and supporting forecasts that show the big picture for temperature, moisture and smoke for my area. This provides a more complete picture for planning adventures than just looking at the forecast using other weather apps, and it is so easy to use.

The best for mountain accuracy. I work and play outside in the Colorado Rockies and have never found accurate forecasts. I check the forecast at least 3 times per day and can plan accordingly with Open Summit.

Useless without any overlay items. Wow, first and worst app I have ever come across that doesn’t allow any overlays to the base map. Seriously! I got Apple Maps if I needed a map without overlays. If you are intending to download to evaluate your needs for this app, save your time as you are forced to setup an account that asks for your full name and email address and you get nothing in return. The data this app if available in high resolution FOR FREE on the NOAA websites. Just creat short cuts to your Home Screen and save your yearly fee for something better than nothing that you get for “free here”.

Great app for hiking and other mountain adventures. I’ve been an open snow subscriber (formerly Tahoe weather) for nearly a decade. Now with Open Summit I can keep up on tracking weather and conditions throughout the year. I’m an all access member and I have been utilizing the smoke map overlays as well as the wind and radar this summer. They have not let me down. Highly recommend this app

The best. I love being able to browse nearby mountains and forecasted conditions to make plans. And the addition of the smoke map this summer has been invaluable for my day-to-day, non-adventuring life. Bundled with OpenSnow, these apps are the best $20 I spend each year, no joke.

Lacks functionality. -Can’t look at the precipitation or wind forecast at various altitudes. Where is the forecast for? Just the summit? -Once you have a mountain in your “base camp” you can’t toggle to the satellite map or look at its location -There’s no topo -Can’t choose metric units if desired There’s better functionality in other weather apps; based on this I won’t be upgrading.

Great data with a useful interface. Easy to use with very good data—especially as conditions change in the mountains. Hands down the best weather forecasts.

Wow wow wow. Hands down the best weather/smoke/air quality/everything outdoors related app I have on my phone. I open it 5-10 times a day to see how smoky it’s going to be, what our air quality is, if it’s going to be raining anytime soon, what the snow totals will be in our area, when the next storm is coming, and the list goes on. Plus they are constantly updating the app with even better features. If you’re going outside for any reason, even to drive to work…download it. Pay the $30 annual subscription. Completely worth it in every way, you won’t regret it.

Worth Every Penny. I’m not a person who pays for an app but I’m in the backcountry so much this app is essential. I found I can actually get forecasts for the places I am going to be. The forecasts are even accurate!! I also love a lot of the articles. I’m pretty much a geek about the outdoors and backcountry.

The best tool for planning my summits. Having the membership and ability to see lightning forecasts 5 days in advance on big peaks has changed how I can plan and increased the number of summits I completed last year! I didn’t even realize I also had access to Open Snow which was such a bonus for planning which ski resort to visit as well and when to request a day off more than just the night before when it’s dumping. The BEST app for a Coloradan Outdoor Enthusiast. The apps are very easy to use and to set up how you like.

Super Helpful. We vacation each year in Breckinridge, nothing could be more helpful in planning our trip than this app. Anyone that travels or hikes in the mountains know exactly what I mean. Each day provides you with a 3 season option!!

Don't know what I'd do without it. I trust OpenSnow and OpenSummit more than any other news or weather source. It's incredible and impressive how detailed and accurate the information is that they provide in their articles, maps and summary pages. The snow and traffic cam links are a nice feature as well. This is by far the best weather and outdoor planning app I've ever seen and I have no idea what I'd do without it.

Radar Maps Are Amazing. Thank you for extending the forecast maps with 18 hours of data! I live/play in Summit County Colorado and the smoke maps have been invaluable recently. It helps me plan my morning workouts and informs my decision on whether to hike in lower elevations, to climb high, or to stay inside until smoke conditions improve. I love both OpenSummit and OpenSnow. ‘All Access’ is a must and is definitely worth it!

I check this multiple times a day. I thought this was a handy app when it was primarily snow forecasting. With the addition of the Open Summit component and the smoke forecasting, I check this app multiple times per day. I have asthma, and I have able to plan hikes, bike rides, camping at least a day in advance to avoid the densest smoke plumes. Thanks from Summit County!

Useful, easy, accurate, a must have!. Excellent app for mountain weather forecasts with lots of useful additional info all in one place! I’ve used it often to plan hikes and climbs and found the accuracy to be spot on. I wouldn’t think of going into the mountains without checking OpenSummit first.

Very thoughtful app. I used to have to go to multiple websites when planning a trip. Now it’s all in one place. And they keep adding new features all the time like snow cams, snow depth, trail conditions, smoke maps, etc. I enjoy having all my favorite places and a place I am going to all on one page. They also are very prompt when I have questions or suggestions. It is a very thoughtful app.

THE primary source for Mountain weather. Absolutely vital resource for anyone planning travel and activities in the Colorado mountains, or, frankly any other US mountain region. The maps and layers are the best. For winter use, the sister app OpenSnow is also a must have.

Saved my summer road trips from ruin. The mountain weather is now so much more complicated in the West with fires and smoke. This app brings everything together and lets you plan your missions with remarkable insight. For the last 3 summers, my road trips across the US would have been nightmares without this valuable info. Indispensable. I’ve been a long-time subscriber of OpenSnow and when the team released OpenSummit it was a no-brainer. I hike in Colorado and am planning to summit a few peaks. The data in this app is presented well and most importantly, is accurate. I’m confident I will be able to plan my trek up and down Peak One safely.

Don’t leave home without checking this app.. Great weather app for all outdoors people. I use the five day forecasts to decide when and where to hike. The map overlays are also informative particularly concern wildfire smoke.

A must read!. Open Snow is the best source of detailed weather reports you will find anywhere. The team goes to great lengths in curating satellite and other data from many sources to ensure we’re getting the most updated and accurate forecasts - especially snow forecast at all major resorts across the US and Canada.

Love it!. I’ve always loved open snow. And I definitely love open summit. I’d like to say the maps are fantastic, with features that I can’t really find anywhere else. The new Daily Summit weather discussion is fantastic as well! Pro is so worth the money.. Cheap piece of mind before heading out. Costs less than a half tank of gas per year to avoid the bad weather skunk and you can plan your powder days a week in advance for no extra charge. What other snow forecasting app has a “Keep me honest” post storm synopsis?

All you need for outdoors weather and environment. One this app--works great, they constantly add and improve on things you didn't even know could be improved. I find myself using it daily which is to me a small group of apps. It's useful year round too. Last summer during fires in the west, I was on an extended road trip in a camper from Lake Tahoe through the PNW and found the app a life saver for planning the next leg and where to stay. We were able to avoid most of the smoke fir the whole time thanks to being able to see wind and smoke snd AQI layers. It made a trip that could have been miserable an absolute joy. Absolutely love this -- and Open Snow too :-)

Necessity for Western Slope drought and recreation. Almost every day Fire Warning published. Spend lot of time in the outdoors hiking. Planned on going today, high winds and camp fires of people in the mountains concern me. Smoke and lightning strike information is critical. After my morning review of Open Summit/Snow decided not to go. Don’t won’t to be caught on a mountain trail with a fire and no escape route. Open Summit gives information to make an educated decision on what to expect for that day. Sometimes I have people with me that I’m responsible for. Makes the activity more enjoyable being knowledgeable on conditions.

Best smoke predictions. I’m a skier so I was already using Open Snow. This app has a longer forward looking map animation loop ~40 hours ahead. I hate that I’ve found it so useful the last month, but it’s priceless to know when we’ll likely see a few hours of clear air.

Game changer!. This app has become an indispensable tool for planning my outdoor adventures. It’s the most accurate weather app I’ve used and has saved me countless wasted hours of driving to a trailhead only to find suboptimal weather rolling in. It gives me an idea of which day of the week to go, how early to start, what gear to bring (wet, snow, smoke, etc.). I owe many sunny, calm hikes to OpenSummit!

Great app. This is the best one-stop source of weather forecasts and related info (e.g., smoke, lightning) for hiking season that I’ve found. A great complement to their (even better) OpenSnow app. I’ve been using the combo for several years, and consult one or the other almost daily.

No way to sample the app without paying for it. Update 8/9/21 the Team emailed me and was very nice about a trial. I appreciate that genuine response so I’m updating my rating to 4 out of 5. It would have been nice to get just one feature like just temperature out of the box… This app allows you to download it for free and register an account, but you can’t test it with just 1 free overlay to see if you like the user experience…. You have to pay upfront. This app wasted my time.

Best app for pinpointing weather & air quality up high. The features the developer has been adding are rock solid and help me to get a better understanding of the weather or air quality (wildfire smoke is big out in the west) for a very specific spot in CO. Many weather apps will give you generic temps, but the temp on top of a peak can be very, very different. Excellent set of features and a great summer version of the sister app OpenSnow, which I use all winter long for playing in the snow.

A must have for outdoors in the mountains.. I don’t use this app as much as I do the sister app, Open Snow but I’ve found Open Summit to be just as useful when I do. Gives me a great current and forecast outlook for the mountains in my area when I plan on heading out for a big hike or mountain bike ride.

Lacks support for Canadian resorts. Cool app, well designed with a nice concept but as someone North of the border it’s pretty useless to me as nothing nearby shows up

Basically useless in Canada. Nice UI. Other than that it’s not particularly useful here in the Great White North. But…it’s a US based app. So, that’s great and as it should be, if you’re in the US.

Great app. The exploration feature is helpful and provided some good info. I live near the Appalachians in Virginia, so I wasn’t sure how much support this app would provide in that regard (seemed Rocky-focused). Pleasantly surprised. I don’t see anything in here about cloud coverage. Seems like a basic thing to know for bringing a hat or sunglasses.

Crashing and hot when using the map. I really like the smoke map overly. Super helpful for being in California right now. However, when I’m adjusting the size of the map with the smoke overlay, my phone (iPhone 11 pro) gets very hot, which is odd, and the app crashes. Would love to use this if it worked better

Best app for adventures. OpenSummit is how I do summers in Utah. The info is accurate and easily digestible, plus having trail conditions is why this is my go to app!! Highly recommend!

Best Weather App for Colorado. The specificity in location data and mapping functions are very useful. Worth the $19/year. I use Open Summit for late season ski mountaineering and mountain biking.

Smoke and rain. Wow. Love this app as do all my family members as we have the family plan. We do so much outside and this app and the regions forecasts have really helped us plan our seasonal outings. With every penny .

Great resource. I don’t use this nearly as much as it’s partner, OpenSnow, but the maps and overlays are really good. And I like the forecast that tells you whether trails will be dry and detailed precipitation. The smoke and snow depth overlays are great.

Constant Resource. I use this app daily for the maps and overlays of smoke, radar, winds, temps, etc. I also loaded my favorite mountains for the weather forecasts including risk assessments of wind, rain, and lightening. Invaluable tool for me!

Worth it. Plan your hiking/biking or whatever outdoor endeavor you like around this app. I’ve found the forecasts the most accurate for the Colorado mountains and foothills. You’ll be glad you did.

Good data for the sites you can find. As a rock climbing planning app it’s pretty limited. There are major crags and climbing areas that you can’t find. You would think something like red river gorge or new river gorge would be easy to get weather data on….

Go-to app for air quality info and more!. I love this app for air quality info and wildfire smoke info, including FORECASTS!

Excellent reference. Excellent source of important information. The UI and notifications are very nice. Highly recommend the app.

Summer’s most useful tool. As an avid mountain biker who doesn’t like huffing smoke, OpenSummit allows me to predict conditions with their pinpoint accurate smoke forecasts and AQI reports. This lets me plan for the best windows to get out and ride—a saving grace during these hazy summers.

Great resource with helpful data. Hike and bike throughout the Sierras and Open Summit is a quick way to help plan an outing. Estimates of smoke coverage are especially much appreciated

Knowing before you go. Open Summit is brilliant—the temps, smoke, weather all let’s me know where to go or what I need to do (like close my windows overnight due to upcoming heavy smoke). Great app, well worth having!

Three green icons. I waited to bike Mt Evans until all three icons ( wind, rain, lightning) were green and it was a perfect day. This app is a great way to plan your mountain activities in the summer. If you’re already an OpenSnow subscriber this is a nice boost to the value of that sub since it’s included.
