Great Teaching Tool. My daughter is in beginning band and Staff Wars was instrumental in helping her learn to read music. Staff Wars Live has made it fun for her to take it to the next level, now she can read the music and play the correct note without having to think about it. To her, having to practice using Staff Wars Live is like being asked to play a video game for homework. Great app!

Best note reading app!. I went from not being able to read music to having familiarity and increasing my speed and fluency in a week. This app, including the original one, are fun and work! I still have a long way to go, but this app helped me overcome a big hurdle.

Amazing app!. We just bought this for our instrumental music students at my school, best money we've spent all year! I've never seen kids so excited to practice note reading! They come in and open it up and start playing as soon as they come into class. Highly recommend this if you teach music!

Great App, Just Really Hard. Okay, okay, yes, this a good app for practicing your notes and getting better, but, once you get over 30, it gets REALLY HARD you try to think what the note is, but, when you found out what the note is, 30 + you already missed a note, and, once you get to 40+ you only get 5 seconds, and it’s really hard to concentrate, this app also made me mentally in pain, and I believe that “ I cannot do this “ and caused me cry, please make this app a LITTLE bit easier, it’ll help a lot. Thanks!

Great but treble clef is broken. This game is really cool and helpful I love it. But the treble clef doesn’t pick up any sound

App Crashes. This app crashes with my phone every time I run it. I’m running iOS 12.4.2 on an iPhone XS. Disappointing because I enjoyed using this app for my students!

Crashes upon opening. I used this just last week, it now every time I try to open it, it crashes before loading. I tried restarting my iPad, and I even reinstalled the app. Nothing has helped.

Goes beyond any expectations. This app is truly taking 'reading notes' to the next level. I absolutely love that the 'side effect' of this game is being able to read notes. Some of my students told me after trying it out during the lesson that they practiced it every day without me even asking. The idea of the app is simple but VERY effective. It sure makes my job as a guitar teach much easier, as now I have more time to focus on other things. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Good but is incorrect. A good app, but whenever I hit my mallets it says my notes are wrong. I know they are right.

Piano teacher. I play correct notes before they reach the clef but the notes still explode at the clef. I named lots of correct notes earlier and the game counted those. I don’t know what to adjust for success. I tried googling for help with no luck! Very frustrating!

Worst app ever. I very strongly dislike this app because it does not even work

Disappointing. No full piano. No grand staff. No way to work on individual choices of notes. Swipe from bottom doesn’t work. There’s better apps but fixing these few changes could help. Sadly refund time

Sorry, It’s not good!. This app would be awesome if it had one feature! Midi connectivity, but sadly it does not! So, you’re forced to rely on the iPad Mic for note recognition and that’s a huge problem that can be very frustrating! Please fix this app or stop listing it as being the ideal tool for your piano sight reading needs.

Sensors Don’t Work. Sensors don’t always detect key

Does not recognize many tones on my digital piano. I bought a YAMAHA YDP-144 for my son recently, and in order to improve his staff reading, I just installed the StaffWars alive on my iPad. However, the app can only recognize several tones like the middle C, but it does not recognize many others in the treble staff (we only tried the C major treble staff). We are pretty sure we played the correct key, but the balls just keep moving to the end to destroy the clef. It’s so frustrating!

AWESOME APP. This is a very good app. It is fun, but educational. It has helped me keep my notes memorized and has helped me learn new notes as well. It is MUCH better compared to the regular Staff Wars. It tells you what note your playing when you play it, and you can customize it to your instrument and range of notes. I highly recommend it if you’re having trouble keeping your notes memorized or want to learn new ones.

Good App for Training. Good app for training. I do have an issue though. After I finish a game, my most recent score is hidden under the headers in the “scores” menu. I wish it accepted Midi. Otherwise good app.

This app is a scam. This app is not worth a penny it takes so long to recognize a note. The game is very boring and only held my son's attention for five minutes. He did not learn anything. It's a fine tool if it was free, but since it was three dollars, I would not purchase this game.

Has potential but needs improvement. I love the concept, but for some reason it does a poor job of recognizing the notes, oftentimes I have to press the same note (Yamaha digital piano) several times before the correct reading registers, which can be frustrating. Would be a great tool if it worked as intended though.

Incorrect for bass clef. This app teaches treble clef right, but it seems to think bass clef has the same pitches on each line/ space that the treble clef does. I can’t use this with my piano students and am very disappointed.

Best app for learning notes on the staff - HANDS DOWN. If you are a musicteacher, please trust me and just buy this now. This latest take on this "typing tutor" style gamification is yielding almost magic results. I've been teaching piano for over 15 years. The results I've had after two weeks with my students this semester is astounding. In two weeks I have seen multiple students go further than they went in a year in reading.. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to teach or learn to read music for the piano. Before Staff Wars LIVE, the original Staff Wars was my goto for teaching the notes on the staff. It had beaten out LineSpace which had way less cusomization and hadn't updated since 1.0 YEARS ago. By opening up the microphone, makign the text larger and simplifying all of the options while offering more control it went other level. These earlier apps revolutionized teaching note reading. StaffWars Live takes it to an entire other level.

Underwhelming. Horrible, works terribly, I thought I could get better disappointed at how low quality it is. The setting stopped working. Please fix it. I am currently deleting this app.

Issues. This app doesn’t seem to be working for me. I can see the notes on the screen but the app or the iPad is not picking up the notes that I am playing at all.

Amazing game. For those who don’t know how to play piano on this, it’s the Trouble Cleff or one of the Cleffs it’s very good to play on the clarinet piano guitar violin. This is my only way of practicing and whenever I forget how to play an instrument of mine, I do this game and then I go to my music book good at the game with this certain instrument of mine. P.S.for those add haters there’s no ads because it is for learning and only learning music and I really think it’s an amazing game. You guys should really get it. It’s worth the money to.

Awesome, Fun and addictive. I started using this app with students the day after someone showed it to me! It's a lot of fun. They have major scales, blues in major and minor and chromatic. They need to add minor scales and tenor clef (it has treble, alto and bass clef)

Works with double bass. UPDATE: it DOES work with bass! Select “bass guitar” in settings! Thanks! Old review: It gets the octave wrong on my double bass, pizzicato. Doesn’t pick up the notes with a bow. Most tuners get it right, so not sure why this is an issue. It would be nice to have an “octave forgiveness” option so that it accounts for software’s misinterpretation of the octave I’m playing

Tiny bug…hopefully. When playing bells, the note Bb registers as A# and will not be accepted as the “correct” answer (even though they are enharmonic and SHOULD be accepted as the correct answer.)

Terrible. Every time I play I have to purposely play the wrong notes. For example: to play F# I have to play G. To play B I have to play C#. A,D,G,and high D cannot be used on Alto cleff.

Love it.. The GUI is amazing, and it is really useful for practicing. You can use almost every instrument on it.

Doesn’t really work on iPad Air iOS 12.4. Something is either wrong with the app or with this iPads microphone because no matter what octave or how loud my keyboard is this app registers the notes about 30% of the time.

Pretty great game. This is a really neat game. So far I’ve got some good responses from my students. I would like to see the grand staff as an option, well as an option to penalize too many wrong answers. Also preventing the game from wanting treble notes on a bass staff would be helpful- right now if you don’t change the clef in settings that can happen. I look forward to future possibilities with this kind of technology. Only .99 worth it !

Booooo. This is very boring and takes forever.

It has issues but ok when it works.. I’m not sure if this app is tuned to something other then A=440. I tune my instrument before using the app and I always have to adjust the slider because it’s not picking up the notes correctly. I been playing clarinet for over 20 years. I want to use this app to practice playing bass clarinet in bass clef and to practice transposing Bassoon to Low C bass. My main issue is the following: When practicing reading bass clarinet on Bass clef the notes are not correct. In bass clef the first space is an A. In treble clef the first space is an F. When the mode is set to bass clarinet with bass clef. The first space is still reading an F which is not correct. Therefore this mode is completely useless. If I set the settings to bass clarinet treble clef it works as expected but I have no use for that. I already know how to read treble clef. If the developer can fix that would be great. Also having a slider to select A=440 or A=442 or something else depending where you are in the world would be great.

Tenor Clef Incorrect. The tenor clef doesn’t seem to work correctly - it’s listening for weird notes, at least on cello. Bass clef works fine. Could use a speed slider to decrease dead time waiting for the next note. Also could use a screen update to use the full height on modern iPhones. Great idea though!

App is frozen and won’t launch. We purchased and downloaded this app for iPad and it will not even launch quick start or allow us to open settings. Very disappointing as it was recommended by my child’s music teacher.

Good motivation. I have to adjust the clef in the setting in order to get the game to respond the pitch played/sang. Just choosing different clefs on the start screen doesn’t work at all. However, this pedagogical game is really innovative and creative and fun. It also doesn’t recognize very well out of tune notes, so it’s a great way to train a student to sing, blow or play the note accurately and in tune in an instant.

Plz add more instruments!!!!!!. I have a glockenspiel and a piano and both are not on there!!!!!! And i need to practice my sight reading! For a concert that i have soon! So plz add glockenspiel and piano on there!😡🤬🤬🤬😡🤬

What about double bass. Was so excited to get this app and try it out with a struggling bass student...only to find it won’t work as they are playing an octave lower than written. Any chance of an upgrade/update for transposing instruments? Then I’d give it 5 stars!!

Only Treble Clef Works. It only works with treble clef! Even if you select bass clef, the notes it displays (and hits) are actually treble clef notes. What a joke. I want a refund.

Good but would like a couple of improvements. I use this with my guitar students and find it effective, although there are a couple of shortcomings. firstly, for treble clef, it only goes as low as a G, however for guitar it really needs to extend down to E (the open sixth string). Secondly, for some reason the graphic for B below the first ledger line seems a bit misaligned (not a big deal, but off-putting, and could be fixed). Overall, it works well and students’ sight-reading improves quite quickly. Most kids of the iPad generation are quite keen to use it.

Doesn't recognise notes I play. I've tried using this app with a tuned guitar and it does not recognise any notes that I play. It has access to my microphone, but it's not working.

Great work. I love this app. It is great for students and I will use it with mine. Why don't the clef's work? If I have set it to a treble reading instrument it reads in treble even if I touch another clef. This needs fixing as some advanced students and players may want to play their instrument in different clefs.

Pretty good. I luv this app I use it with my viola and euphonium it is really fun but the negitive (not about the app) is that when my keys are sticky and I have a really good score I have to stop it to oil my key(s) and then I lose my score! 😎 👍🏻!

Good but couple tuning issues. I haven’t been able to get this to work with glockenspiel. The overtones also sometimes blow up subsequent notes. Sometimes notes don’t register. It all in all, my students have great fun playing it.

Notes hit clef. The app accurately recognises the notes I’m playing on my keyboard as they appear on the screen. However, the notes moving along the clef often don’t explore and end up crashing into the clef sign. Kind of defeats the purpose of the whole game. Should be free if it’s so faulty.

Very good app. I have a baritone and I just select the trombone section. It works the same. Very good app!

Bass clef doesn’t respond. The treble clef is working pretty well, I don’t know why the bass clef doesn’t have any response to the sound even I played right keys

4 stars. Helps me with my notes, but sometimes it does not hear them correctly, and it marks them wrong. All in all amazing app.

Far too easy. This app is a great idea for learning to read your notes... But I would REALLY like to see a "difficulty" option in the settings... Like having the notes fly at the clef a different speeds. PLEASE add this feature in the near future and I would be happy to change my rating! :D

Great... But.... My beginners LOVE this game... But there are issues with Clarinets and Saxophones having concert C registering. Flutes are squirly as well. Not sure what's up... Other than that... Super fun game.
