Amazing app to learn piano. If you have never played piano this is the app you need. I play guitar and I’ve played trumpet in school so I have a idea how sheet music goes but it’s been many years. I have never played piano so I am a complete beginner I work 8 hours a day and I practice using this app about 2 hours when I get home I’m only 5 days into the trial and can read sheet music and know all the keys on the piano. This is a amazing app I thought the lessons were kinda random I would learn a couple notes then jump into other stuff then jump back to more notes but now I see why they placed the lessons like they did it helps to pick up more advanced stuff later down the line. Very well made app and great teachers thank you flowkey so much.

It’s ok. When I first payed for my yearly subscription, I thought that this app would be fun and help me a lot as a beginner. I was wrong. I feel like they cram to much information into the screen when you choose to play a song. For example, they show someone’s hands and the notes at the same time, which in my opinion, for beginners like myself is an overwhelming feature. I like to see the whole sheet of music and work at the kinks but the thing just keeps on going and going, which makes me feel rushed. I payed $110 for this and it’s so far been a waste of money. One thing that might be helpful to update this app is (if you pay money for this) to be able to print out the music sheet or have an option to just see the music or hands.

Love it!. Love this freaking app! I’m kind of addicted to it. We got a Yamaha piano p-45 for Christmas for our family, and it came with three free months of flowkey. I’ve been doing courses and songs every day. What a great combo. I quit piano lessons after a year in fifth grade. Never made it to two hands, and flowkey had me playing with two hands in a few days. Thanks! Only feature I’d like is to have an option to see the entire song on the screen, and even print a pdf if copyrights allow. Sometimes it’s hard to remember which parts are coming up, and printout would solidify the song. But I do love the scrolling as a great learning method. Also buy a MIDI chord to recognize the notes spot on. The mic did good enough, but with the direct link I can play with headphones or a lot of noisy kids in the background and not miss a note.

Learn at your own pace. I am an older adult (73 years old) and new to piano. I tried working with 2 different piano teachers. One taught me like one of her 6 year old learners, though I know she meant well. The other seemed like she was out to prove something and had no patience for mistakes. So I decided to try flowkey and learn on my own. It was the best decision I could have made. I went ahead and bought the lifetime membership and I am glad I did. I am now learning and playing music. There are tons of selections for every level, plus there are courses for learning scales, chords, and more. I wish there were more courses. If I could change something, it would be to have the ability to download an entire piece so that I could print it out and play it when I don’t have an internet connection. This would also allow me to look at the whole piece, and give me a better context for what I am learning. As it is right now you can only see a few measures at a time as the piece scrolls by. Still, I highly recommend this app.

My savior. Ok, I never write reviews... like ever, but this app deserves it. I am completely new to piano, never have taken a lesson in my life and while I have been trying, I couldn’t play with two hands to save my life, that is until I found this app. Even though I have only played through a little bit of the beginner songs, I CAN FINALLY PLAY WITH TWO HANDS!!!!! I have tried everything, besides a teacher because I like to learn by myself, and this app is the only thing so far that has helped me to play simultaneously with two hands, and actually play the piano well. It allows you to go at your own pace and slow songs down, and while it’s a little pricy, heck, I might even buy a subscription. So to all my newbies who also have no idea how to play and are loosing hope, this app helped me, and although you can only access a few songs before buying a subscription, I recommend it for the short time you can use it before it blocks off.

Good just needs a few things. I’ve had this app for a year now. It has plenty to keep me engaged. I started with a basic knowledge of treble clef and reading music from playing sax. A few things I wish this app had: 1. It makes you take your hands off the keyboard to touch the iPad to advance to the next lesson or part to be learned. That is a pain. They should just make you push a piano key to move on. 2. Needs a way to highlight measures you have trouble with and a way to write in accidentals or notes to yourself (like you could do if using paper music). 3. I would like to see a song that I have learned just static, like a piece of sheet music. Instead it always has the music measures scrolling like a video game and I don’t think that function can be turned off. So is it worth the $? Yeah, I guess so. It is fun. It’s at least a ton cheaper than private lessons however for someone not very gifted like myself I think I’d still need real piano lessons to actually be able to play piano.

Love it. I’ve been practicing with this almost every day for an hour for a month or so, and I’ve learned so much, and am enjoying it! I always look forward to practicing and love that I can learn independently and at my chosen pace! The note recognition is pretty good (I have a baby grand), but there are a few keys that I think are out of tune enough and it struggles to recognize them quickly, so that can be a bit of a hold up. I also wish they had put the classes in a better prescribed order, because the beginner to intermediate lessons are back to back and a pretty big jump in skill level. I should have practiced the scales and maybe chords before intermediate. Oh well. I also wish there was more basic note reading practice, but it does come with time. Only reasons I’m not giving 5 stars. But, I’m really enjoying learning piano alone and from the comfort of my home!! Love!

Could be much better. The wait mode functionality on this app is quite frustrating. This is the mode in which the song waits until you hit the right key before moving on. Without MIDI functionality on your keyboard you are stuck with it trying to recognize sounds through your phone mic. There is no keyboard calibration setup or anything to let the app know what sound corresponds to what key on your keyboard. So if your piano is slightly out of tune or if you have a cheap electronic keyboard like myself, it has a hard time picking up certain notes. This severely disrupts my flow during a song when I have to repeat a key until it finally recognizes, or it randomly skips notes sometimes. As a beginner i find the sections that are hardest to learn are the ones were I have to repeat notes because it cannot properly recognize them. Also if I search a song that I would like to play, i can’t add it to “my songs” to save it for later. It appears that you can only save songs to your list if you so happen to come across it going through the songs tab and clicking through categories and scrolling forever trying to find the song you want to save. Very inconvenient. Much to be desired after paying $100 for this app....

Not what I had hoped for. So let me begin by saying I have been taking piano lesson from a teacher for 3yrs and this app is not something I would consider dumping my teacher for. The scrolling songs are interesting but to difficult to keep up with to learn the songs. If you are new to piano you will probably not catch on. I can read notes and play piano pretty well and I had trouble. The catch for me was they don’t allow you to download the songs and print them out. You have to go to another website and pay 6 dollars per song more if you want an actual copy of the song. A hard copy of the songs is important for learning the song so you can go at your own speed and not the speed the site sets for you. Even at a 50% speed can be to fast for a beginner. This is not a site I will continue to use. I will look elsewhere.

Great alternative for self learner pianist wannabe. My son private piano lesson close down their physical location activities due to pandemic. In the meantime, we are trying to find alternative so he can continue learning and improve his piano skill. There are few products available for self learning but we pick flowkey. The software feature collection of songs from different genres and levels, various self learning tools such as wait mode, speed adjustment, rollback/repetition, and live recording action of the actual person playing on the piano. He was able to master 2 songs so far at the pro level within less than 2 months and his level at private lesson was just the beginner. All it takes is steady and persistent learning. His side reading skills definitely improved vastly. This software isn't perfect. Wait mode sometime skipped and there was no way to print out the sheet perhaps due to copyright issue. Price wise seems to be expensive @$120 yearly but if you think of how much you're paying for private tutor, this is actually cheap. I dare you to try.

Bad Audio Recognition. I purchased a 1 month membership for Flowkey, and at this point I don’t feel it was worth it due to the poor note recognition/clumsy software. I get false reads/misreads fairly regularly, so whether it be I’m jamming the correct key until it hears me and I can proceed with the song, or it proceeds through a part I’m playing incorrectly (or not at all), it’s always frustrating and I don’t feel like I’m getting much out of it. This is particularly prevalent in two-handed learning. I know it’s a software issue because Yousician, which does virtually the same thing, proceeds almost flawlessly every time under identical circumstances. This is probably because it has an actual calibration menu, unlike Flowkey—maybe Flowkey expects you to be playing on an actual piano, whereas I’m on a smaller electric keyboard. It’s too bad, as Flowkey does feel like the more formally instructive option, but I must say I’m disappointed.

My sister and mom love it, but.... Edit, I realize that I wrote this when I was near drunk-levels of sleep-deprived, but I still think that it’s criminal that the Celeste soundtrack isn’t available. It already has a full piano album and translates so well to piano! Alright, this service works well and taught my sister how to play the piano. My only gripe is pretty niche, and it’s that the game music section is a bit sparse. It was the Celeste game soundtrack by Lena Raine that got me to love piano music. The soundtrack has a piano album and would make a wonderful addition to Flowkey’s library. Some of them would make great songs for beginners, but would be enjoyable to learn for anyone. Personally, I find it difficult to keep working at learning a skill as a personal long term goal, and piano is no exception; however I know that these songs would keep mine and others’ interest. I reiterate, this app works wonderfully and already has a large library of songs, but I personally have a harder time due to music preference.

Useless without “premium”. I have been searching everywhere for an app or book that can teach me to play piano but I was not successfully. This app sounded like a good idea... I learned to play a simple song: ode to joy. When the app let me roam free around to pick another song, I soon figured out that as I had no subscription, I could only play 8 songs! When I opened up a “beginner “ song... I was shocked... the song I found listed under beginner was extremely difficult. As I was attempting to learn it, the app suggested that I take a course on learning the piano. I found many lessons... it was EXACTLY what I had been searching for... but APPARENTLY it was too good to be true... I tapped on the first lesson of how to read sheet music. I felt fine and relieved to take the first lesson... but when I finished it, the app told me I needed a “premium” plan... I was fuming! As realization struck me, I found out that the long winding list of lesson types with even more lessons within them required (once again !) a “premium plan” So to put it simply, the functionality of LEARNING how to actually USE the piano is not very possible on this app without a subscription of $20 a month!!!!!!!!!

I’m somewhere in the middle about this app. Personally I feel like I was miss-lead by the information that was available to me when I was searching for an app to learn to play piano! On one hand I love the interface, I love the fact that flow-key waits for you, and that it moves along as you play! On the other hand, I am almost through all of the courses, and I barely know anymore than I knew prior to paying for this app, their customer service was wonderful before my payment actually was deposited, Following my free trial, I think the concept of flowkey is wonderful, but are we really learning how to play? I don’t think so, we’re just mimicking two hands we see above us, at least that’s how I feel! I could go on anon but those are my two biggest gripes. Plus they mentioned that there’s thousands of songs, and I can barely find time that I enjoy And maybe two that I can actually make my way through playing, so I’m disappointed, not totally disappointed, but enough that I would not renew my membership! Hope this helps someone who might want to learn to play, And is confused on which app to go with!

Terrible Midi Function. Really excited about the app but the midi function is awful on the iPad as there is no option for midi sound like on a Mac. It was recognizing my playing through my speaker until all of a sudden it didn’t want to recognize my A note. I switched different sounds and it was all the same. Then I wanted to try the midi function. Works perfectly fine when I use GarageBand and sound comes out great so I know it’s not on my end but when I try and get sound out of flowkey nothing comes out. I read online that you midi controller requires an audio out but that’s kind of ridiculous since many midi controllers don’t have that option (I own 4 from various companies and price points) Please fix this or I may need to switch apps.

First saying using. I have tried many piano apps, some use the lay out where the notes are falling, like Synthesia, while I think that’s great, traditional music playing is done by site reading, this app is incredible, it shows SOMEONE PLAYING the song in real time, highlighted notes, in REAL TIME with the music, that in its self is incredible, I have been looking for something like this, I was using just sheet music before this and wasn’t learning fast enough, I learned half a song today, I have not even talked about the wait mode, which listens to you play, and won’t progress until you play the right note, so helpful, incredible, and the looping system, this is almost everything you could want from a piano app, not to mention it has lessons for music, this is what I’m suggesting to anyone who wants to play piano, I just have to ask why this wasn’t in my life sooner

Tentative 4 Stars. I give this app a tentative 4 stars. I tried Flowkey and another piano app together for the 7 day trial and found that, overall, Flowkey worked better for me. I played an instrument in grade school and had unsuccessful private piano lessons as a kid and was definitely in need of a refresher on reading music. I think this app does a nice job introducing the elements of reading music (though I do sort of wish there was a written element where a note would appear and you had to name it by letter, like a written pop quiz) It also allows you to practice a piece as needed before moving on. Another small gripe is how many times you have to push play or OK to start the activity. I wish this could be a voice command so that you can get your hands situated and then say “OK” to start the exercise. My tentative 4 stars is based on the fact that shortly after starting to play more than one note at a time, the app has a hard time determining if you are playing the correct note. This make practicing extremely frustrating having to play the same note many, many times until it hears it correctly to move on, ruining any flow you had going and making it hard to actually learn a piece of music. I have a cable coming so that I can plug my iPad into my keyboard and hope this improves the experience. If this works, it will solidify my 4 stars.

Learning Piano to do a different instruments(s). I’m not going to be using this app at all, learning several instruments is challenge especially when you’re blood runs everything Music and your able to play and sing however the mind blowing issues with trying to practice if you have a little time to kill, etc is that you charge for anything you can have and want free online and it’s of course legal. I just don’t know what makes people want to pay for way better tools and any song you ever want to play really if you have the skill. I would never buy anything especially if you want completely different learning easy tools and music I love to play it doesn’t have to be difficult to play with at least an hour or so of practice and I was playing the hits immediately even was quickly able to play sing and record a very great song my mom wanted me to play and sing it was out recorded the next afternoon. Try is the best thing to do to help people who want to pay.

Excellent App and Customer Service. I have been a user of the flowkey app for the past four months and am very impressed. I am using the app for teaching myself how to play the piano and the integrated approach of listening, viewing and then playing is fantastic. The app shows me the proper fingering of the notes, along with the sheet music. Flowkey‘s ability to “hear” my playing is very cool. With respect to the Customer Service Team, they are incredibly quick in replying and extremely thorough. I had an issue with the app on two different iPads and reached out to them for a solution. They were very responsive and I give them the highest marks of excellence. Bravo flowkey!

Best Piano App. Ever since I was little I wanted to learn piano. When I turned 20 or so I took three years of lessons here and there but then I started my career and didn’t have time to really pursue. This app has me sitting behind my piano at least 2 hours a day! I get to learn all the classical songs I always dreamt of ! I get to pause the video and rewind what a teacher would show me as many times I can. I get to pick out short minuets and practice techniques. I mean this app is just amazing!! it’s making my dream is being able to play come true at the age of 33! I tried a bunch of apps out there, there is nothing like this. Thank you a thousand times!! S

Love this app. Just one request. After a couple decades of not playing, and previously having reached barely an intermediate level at best, I’m finally back at it and progressing thanks to this app. I have just one request: Please add an option in wait mode for the songs (not necessarily in the lessons but in the song selections) where the letters of the keys played are not displayed. I’m really trying to work on sight reading, and inevitably I find myself glancing up at the letters of the keys when I’m learning songs in wait mode. They’re impossible to ignore. I’m learning the songs quickly and ultimately memorizing them, but it’s not helping my sight reading and I feel like I’m cheating myself. Otherwise, I’m thrilled that I Flowkey has made it possible for me to bring piano playing back into my life. Thank you!!

2 STAR. I give this two stars because it’s good at teaching you, but it usually hears wrong and also in some of the songs they move their hands and it doesn’t show that they do. Also, a lot of the songs are just popular music. I searched for a song and then it said it couldn’t find it. And a lot of the songs are membership, which is not cool. Please change this. Also they don’t just have to be KiD aPpRopRiAtE. There might be an adult playing, and just finding kid appropriate songs??? They would not be happy. EXTRA: (Probably not helpful for people reading this unless you are the creator) If you can may you please add accounts? I would also like to change the background. Something that would be FUN to add is a quiz on songs. Thank you for reading this, I hope it was helpful ฅ^ ༎ຶ ﻌ ༎ຶ ^ฅ

Flowkey App. To whom it may concern; whether you’re a novice or a pro at the piano or keyboard. As an intermediate piano, keyboard and organ player, I highly recommend Flowkey App. It gives you many opportunities to learn and grow. It has video beginner courses to get you started. For the more advanced players there are many songs you can select to learn with its midi capabilities thus giving you its 100 percent note recognition. What I like most is the features it has to learn. You can loop sections at a time , play one hand at a time and then both hands. Slow down the tempo. On the downside; it does not let you print any songs.

Ok, been working with it about two weeks now. It does a lot but doesn’t really do what I want and need. First of all, it only works with an internet connection so if you expect to take this to a studio somewhere and use it off line, you will be disappointed. Secondly, the courses are good, but uneven with no directed progression. There is no way to gauge your current skill level and start from there. Third, I wish there was an option to show the whole score of a piece. You either practice it their way or not at all. The keyboard showing the notes is fine, but it would be nice to have more suggested fingering notations on the musical score. And an option to name the notes on the score, rather than having to divert your attention to the keyboard above the score. Fourth. I am really only interested in classical. There should be significantly more easy to intermediate pieces in the program. Most of this stuff is public domain, so why not? I wanted to make a commitment so I bought a years worth. Now I am regretting it. I didn't spend enough time during the Trail period figuring out that it wasn’t really for me.

A different way to learn the piano.. I have playing piano off and on for over 30 years and Flowkey is the best and most inspiring teacher I've ever had. I've learned more new songs in the last 6 months than in all those other years. Exceptional piano playing meets intelligent app design. The song selection and piano styles have me playing and learning in ways I would never have with a single teacher. The ability to slow down and repeat any amount of a song is invaluable. As is learning the proper fingering with an unobstructed view of the pianist hands. It can also be a great tool for site reading. I can't say enough about the absolutely beautiful piano playing on this app. Pure unadulterated piano that can simply be listened to and enjoyed as some of the best piano renderings you can find. Bravo to the Flowkey pianist..

Could be better. This review is coming from a musician. I’ve played guitar and drums for years and always wanted to play piano. I took an intro course in college and haven’t played piano since. This app is good for beginners. I started off having to skip plenty of the lessons because it’s stuff I already knew and didn’t realize. If you’re playing on a real piano or a keyboard with less than 88 keys it could be a problem. The app requires you to be in the same octave and won’t move along unless you hit the correct notes. Even hitting the correct notes but a different octave won’t allow you to proceed. I have a 88 key Bluetooth enabled keyboard which makes this app much smoother. My complaint are with the songs. Almost every song I picked out also incorporates the vocal melody. Now this is nice, but if I’m trying to learn “Let it Be” I want to play it like Paul McCartney and sing along. Not be forced to play the vocal melody making it nowhere near what he’s actually playing. Maybe create a “master” mode or something where it’s the instrumental how the artist would play it and sing on top. The subscription price for this app could get expensive. But I looked at it like 20 a month and I get all the piano lessons my time allows. That’s worth it for me and definitely got the rust off my hands. I’ll continue to learn the beginnings of songs on pro before the vocal melody kicks in and improvise the rest.

Great app BUT.... Got a three month subscription with my piano. Using piano marvel to tackle some classical pieces, but this has a nice feature of showing the hand placement if I get stuck. I don’t want to rely on watching hand placement or I’ll never get good at sight reading, but the looping, separate hands and different speeds are great. They also have a wide variety of pieces of a range of difficulty. Biggest note on this app is there is a huge piece of unused black space above the hand position video. Would be nice to be able to slide hand position video and sheet music up to reveal more sheet music and remove unused black space. Seems like an obvious issue to improve. I end up having piano marvel and this app open and switch back and forth. Maybe wouldn’t do that if the empty black space issue was resolved and more sheet music took up more real estate on the iPad screen.

Not responding to sound. I would give this app 5 stars if it wasn’t for the fact that it doesn’t respond to sound, despite picking up the notes from my keyboard (I can see the little mic in the top left corner picking up the notes as I hit the keys, and they are the right keys, but the exercise does not progress). It’s as if it got stuck. Because this annoying issue has been happening quite a bit since the beginning of my free trial, I may not purchase the app, and it is upsetting, because this truly is a good app, definitely worth the money, if it actually worked all the time and not only some of the time. I hope this problem can be fixed (I’ll change the rating then). Thank you!

Great app but I need more MIDI options. Overall I like Flowkey a lot more than other apps like Simply Piano. It has a better interface and better lessons in my opinion. I also love the fact that it has a MIDI interface since the keyboard I currently own is a MIDI only controller. The only problem with this is that the app doesn’t play back any audio of the notes I’m playing. I assume this is because most people using the app would be playing a normal keyboard or piano. But since my keyboard is just a controller, it doesn’t have any speakers on it so I can only hear the audio through whatever device I’m connected to. The options menu on this app is pretty limited, and as far as I can tell, there’s no way to change this. I realize that I’m probably in a minority situation, but since there doesn’t seem to be a work around for this yet, I’m stuck using Simply Piano if I want to hear what I’m playing. But since I still prefer everything else about this app, I’m hoping that this option will be added.

Learn at your own pace, plus the fact that you can jump around to where you feel comfortable but.... I like the fact that you can learn at your own pace and that unlike with music lessons you have to practice a certain amount of time everyday and I didn’t like that idea so learning at your own pace works for me. The only problem is the note detection from playing on the piano and the iPad hearing it from the mic. It seems to glitch every once in a while when i play two notes at a time i have to play them a couple of times in a row to get it to hear me playing. And at one point today when I was playing I played two notes and then the screen didn’t move on to the next section and I tried closing out the app and it was still happening. And I know it isn’t my iPad that is the problem because I just got this back in December and it is the bran new 2019 version.

Good enough for starting. I started flowkey at age 61 just to be able to play a few Christmas songs for my family. In the first year I was able to play (good enough) 5 tunes. I had already learned the treble clef notes from playing Scottish highland bagpipes and the Irish whistle prior to flowkey. Flowkey does have one shortcoming: You learn to read out the music in one continuous line, but that is not how music is written. Because of this one continuous line you cannot see the pattern by which most (all) music is written. After 3 years of flowkey I am switching to ‘piano marvel’ because it will address this issue. With flowkey I was able to entertain my family and learn to play. I definitely recommend the flowkey ‘app’. At the beginner level flowkey is the best ‘app’ to start with

Love/Hate. I have a love/hate relationship with this app. I love the interface. I hate, seriously hate, the music selection. For the beginner and intermediate levels, you are only given snippets of songs. Only the advanced and pro levels are given the full songs. I even emailed them about this and they gave me a ridiculous answer about how playing snippets of easy songs will enable you to play the full advanced version. Right. Further, there are beginner and intermediate snippets that have no advanced version. I really feel like this is bait and switch. Look at our great music selection - btw, you only get a few lines. Ranting aside, I do love the interface and keep coming back to it. I just have to ignore all the beginning and intermediate versions. Which works for me, but totally stinks for beginner and intermediate students.

Good app in theory. In theory I like how the lessons are set up to get you from no knowledge whatsoever to playing music right away while giving you tips on things like proper posture and hand placement that won’t seem relevant right away but will set you up for success later on. There is an extensive song library as well and ways to personalize it with things you are interested in. My biggest hang up was with note recognition. Trying to learn on an acoustic piano I tried all the tips to try to improve my iPads note recognition but nothing really worked, and it was highly discouraging to have to quit, not because I didn’t enjoy the lessons, but because I couldn’t continue on in them because no matter what I did it couldn’t recognize I was playing the note it wanted. There seems to be a lot of solutions for keyboards which is nice, and makes sense because they are electric and could potentially digitally communicate but no help to me on an upright. Maybe one day I will learn to play the piano a different way.

Not what I expected.. I am an experienced pianist, so cannot comment on the teaching tools, but I am disappointed with the sheet music, as in there is none. My complaints: 1. You must play from the line that only shows a few bars at a time. 2. You cannot slow the speed of the flow - at least not that I can figure out. I’m a good sight reader, but It would be nice to be able to do that when first learning a new song. 3. You only see the key you are in at the start of the flow. I would like be able to glance at a key signature from time to time, especially in songs where it changes throughout. 4. I would like the option of downloading the sheet music so that I done have to deal with the flow line only. I would be fine with a small fee to download a digital file. 5. There seems to be a glitch in connecting to Bluetooth. My Roland has a blue tooth connection - this is the first time I’ve had trouble connecting. 6. It does not seem there are 1000+ songs. Where are they hiding? What I like — the partners arrangements and being able to hear and see their scores - albeit a few bars at a time. I will need to go to them to purchase the digital files and hopefully they are available from them. If you want to try it - pay for one month only to see if this is something for you. I paid for 3 months and unless I see some other benefits, that will be all I am in for.

Serves a purpose, there are work arounds for lack of sheet music. I took lessons for years when I was a kid, never very good, but I still like to dabble on my own. The app helps me A LOT for this first couple hours learning a piece. It's much faster than me working on my own. However, after a certain point the app is no longer helpful. That's when i start needing the sheet music to work at my own speed and drill problem areas. The app just isn't good for that and I can't memorize pieces like this app is apparently expecting you to. Overall it serves a purpose up to a point but then you really need the sheet music. some songs arranged by their "partners" do have sheet music available on the partner's website. for the other songs I've resorted to taking screenshots of measures then piecing them together on my computer. not ideal but it works. the classical music obviously has sheet music you can find on other sources. for that reason i upgraded it to four stars. minus a star for expense.

honest to god life affirming !!!!!. i never leave reviews so i really mean this. i’m 23 and grew up playing piano and adoring it with a burning passion but had overall negative experiences in lessons because i played by ear and had a difficult time comprehending written music. i never progressed beyond a level 3 or whatever until i was 20-21, although i never went longer than a week without working in an hour at the piano even in the hardest times. the format of this app is EXACTLY what i needed to bridge the gap between my written music comprehension issues and my natural ear. the music selection is legit, and the instructional videos are ASMR if nothing else. it’s a little steep, but if you’re wanting to really throw yourself into learning piano and you’ve been at a standstill and are willing to throw some cash at it, i would absolutely recommend this app.

Add skip ability. It would be great if you would add an ability to skip listening to the demo. If I want to practice skills, I don’t need to necessarily listen to it twice every time. I would like the option to skip as needed. This would be very helpful for making this part of my daily practice. Also I’m coming back to it after a while. And when I was using it to study the songs, I had one slight frustration that made me not use it as often. And that was just that if I wanted to hammer out a certain section that I personally had trouble with… There was no way to do that. It would be nice if you could work on a piece, and narrow in on just a section you wanted to work on. And not the sections they choose. And that you could do it as slow or as fast as you wanted until you got it. And not have to listen to them play it (you would see if you were correct, because of the read notes or of moving forward)

Already the best, could be better.. I LOVE this app. They have the best pop songs (very important to me) and they keep the app updated regularly. I tried many piano learning apps but this one was the best. The UI is great. I like being able to loop any section I want, scroll back and fourth, and use a midi keyboard if I want. I keep buying the yearly subscription and it is totally worth it. One improvement I would love to see is an option to remove or add the hands from/to the view (while learning a song) if you would like. I actually put a piece of paper over the hands part of the screen when I’m trying to learn how to read the sheet music, because my brain wants me to just peek at the hands because they’re easier to read. This option would help us learn how to read sheet music. Then we could add the hands back to the view whenever they were desired.

Love my csp-170 and flowkey nice addition.. I bought a Yamaha CSP-170 one year ago. Started using flow key with free into offer. I have upgraded to premium last year after free intro and agin for another year. While the app is pretty expensive I have been using it every day. It does work very well with my piano and my playing has really improved over the past year. Now with virus stay at home, I will be using it even more. I suggest trying it and seeing how you like it then if you do upgrade to premium. Sometime I just like to play songs on my iPad and watch how they are played. It had enabled mr to play harder songs that I could have without the app. I love love the live wait mode aspect. I noticed some one else not liking it. It works very well on my Yamaha CSP-170 plugged in thru USB port. I my Yamaha per-125 on a camping trip in my motor home. That didn’t work as well because it is too old to plug in thru usb. Have to use microphone function to “hear” the mores I played. It will miss hear some notes and slow down my playing but plugged it works very well.

Four stars. I have been practicing here for a few months now. Its great for practicing. I am a self learner. The only issue I have is when you have the song on the self play as you go along the keys tend to stick and you have to hit it hard to make it move. Sort of annoying. Especially when you are hitting the right notes. Other than that I love playing here. Its giving me lots of practice with the advanced notes. Something I need to work on. Besides my issue, I would give it five stars. I too started with Simply Piano. I finished the course there. I am still with them because they have sheet music at my level. Flowkey has really opened the doors for me. Its giving me the opportunity to advance on my own pace. I love the challenge.

Variety. I love this app, I really do. It’s easy to follow, I love the courses section and I am able to learn how to play different music rather quickly than if I was left to figure it out on my own. Seeing and hearing how the song is played definitely helps me a lot when I am trying to learn a piece of music. I am enjoying learning how to play old school classical music. My one complaint, which for me is rather huge, is that their library of available music isn’t big enough to be inclusive of different types of music people want to learn. For example I want to learn how to play The Old Rugged Cross, Hold Me Now by Red, Burn The Ships by for King and Country, and old school Christmas music including the hymnals because you can only play White Christmas so many times before you want to rip out your own hair. I will gladly give this app five stars when there is a rich selection of Contemporary Christian music, classical hymns, and hymnal Christmas music to choose from.

Definitely get a MIDI cable. Just getting back into piano after a 20 year hiatus and this app has been a nice way to find a decent variety of songs to get back to it. Songs range from classical to pop to romantic and the same song usually comes in multiple levels, letting you get a taste for a song, master one level to feel accomplished, and then start practicing against the next level. The cloud syncing of your songs and preferences is great as you can change between devices and your songs follow you. The wait for me feature is awesome, especially when you have a section that is particularly tricky. As others have noted, the microphone note detection is sketchy, so do yourself a favour and get a MIDI cable if possible. Feedback to the developer: * I wish you would group the same song’s various levels together * there seems to be a huge gap between intermediate and advanced. See Happy Birthday as an example of the leap between the two. * the ability to add to/remove from favourites on all views of a song would be a huge boon * minor nit: the indicator between beginner and intermediate is really hard to differentiate if you’re colour blind

Incredibly false-advertised.. Their subscription page says you will have access to 1000+ songs. In reality, there are actually 216. Note that the selection is decent for such a small slice of the music world, but there is no excuse for such Lies. I wanted to like this app, but many of the songs are only portions of said songs, which differ in quality. If you are going to spend 20$ a month, or more outrageously, 300$ for a lifetime subscription, you ought to get a real tutor. Unless the price drops to adjust to the song quantity and quality, you will do better elsewhere. Edit: raised stars because developer responses are great forms of customer service. I will look into the matter and contact your team. This has been greatly appreciated. Will be in contact soon.

Cannot recommend it enough, just brilliant. This app has no words. Amazing songs, support is amazing, easy to understand and also brilliant courses make this app shine. I have personally tried some other apps as well, but couldn't find one that met all of this. It is true that you do need Premium for the real fun, but even without premium, you could still try out a few songs. There are a few apps where you finish one couse, and then you HAVE to get the premium plan, else the app's useless. This meets everything I wanted in learning piano. It helped me learn a whole song that nearly all my friends love. This app is all you need with practice.

Probably a good tool for beginners. I’ve been playing piano for almost 20 years- I started when I was five. After I moved to my own apartment, I decided to buy a Yamaha digital piano with weighted keys to best mimic the true touch of a real piano. I noticed this App from Yamaha’s website and decided to give it a try. After tried playing several pieces, I think this app is really ideal for beginners who do not know anything about pedal, dynamics, and the flow of music. The only thing this app cares about is wether you played a note right or wrong. While playing the note correctly is an essential part for beginners, for more advanced players, there are certainty room for improvements. This App did help me correct some notes that I unintentionally played wrong, but I had to stop and correct the wrong note before I can move on. Imaging you’re playing some beautiful pieces in front of your friends, this app keep yelling at you for one note and will not show the rest of the sheets before you correct it. More ideally (at least for me) is that after I finish playing the whole piece, this app can tell me the locations of notes or chords I played wrong in this piece. But I think it is still a quite powerful tool for beginners who just want to press the key and play some music.

Only goes so far. At first, I really enjoyed this app. I learned a few song parts and techniques on my digital piano, which I’m quite happy about. Unfortunately, I’m unable to progress with the app anymore. During the courses there are sections where it asks you to play along as it displays both the musical notes, as well as a video of actual hands on the keyboard (to show you which keys to press.) It moves forward AS it hears you play the notes. So helpful!! Until suddenly it won’t pick up the notes I’m playing. I can’t get through two bars without it getting stuck. There’s even a mic sensor that shows that it’s picking up the sound, and I’m playing with the volume all the way up so I’m not sure what the problem is. Not only that, when I sent a message and asked if there was a solution I was told to buy more cords and stuff. Thank goodness the app was a free trial or I would’ve wasted my money.

Could be so much better. I love this app and hate it at the same time. What I love about it are the selection of songs and some of the basic learning tools. I also love being able to see the fingering as the song is played in the upper half of the UI. Here's what I hate: I hate the fact that you cannot ever see more than four measures at a time. (At least on my 10.5 iPad Pro). I also hate that if you pause to look at the notes, you get the overlay which makes the notes hard to see. I want to be able to see more measures or at least give me a page view of the music. The UI is also inconsistently presented. On some songs, there are fingering numbers, and on other songs they are not there at all. Also, there are only two speeds - super slow or super fast with nothing in between. This app has HUGE potential, but because of its shortcomings, I most likely will not re-up my subscription.

Great for Beginners. Update I purchased 3 more months. It's holiday time and I can actually play many of the intermediate level songs. I am so pleased with my progress. Flowkey just added even more holiday music. I am so thrilled by the choices of songs and levels. This app is great for practicing piano. I play at least 5 times a week. Original review I purchased this app for 3 months. I am 60 and never played piano. I am now at intermediate level and can play many pieces with both hands. The lessons are well planned and effective. The choice of music is very good with popular songs, classics, and classical. There are also many holiday songs to play. I enjoy practicing everyday by playing various songs I have identified as favorites. These songs are saved so I can find them easily. Flowkey allows for choosing the speed to play the song or using flow mode, a mode that waits for the correct note. I like learning songs in that mode. It allows me to develop proficiency before attempting to play in time. I would recommend this app to adults who would like to learn piano. It would be fine for young kids with support from a knowledgeable adult.

Excellent concept and works better than I expected. This app is excellent for practicing music. It allows you to loop a section and the microphone pics up sound very well. There are times when it is a little buggy, but regardless I’ve seen a huge improvement in my playing. If you can sit down and play, it’s like having somewhere there to help you practice. There are some features that I wish were available, like the ability to toggle on and off which notes are supposed to be play next so that you can practice reading the notes yourself. I also wish there was the ability to add markers and save your progress. These are minor things though and overall I’m very happy with the way this app works.

If you’re looking for “the app to learn piano” -Congrats! You just found it. Yeyyy. (...and now feel free to go ahead and share some $$ to good hardworking people who made this beauty. They deserve it and I’m sure you gonna love it! 😉) Last year, for the reasons which I still don’t exactly know, I suddenly decided that I want to learn to play piano. Somehow I kidda figured that ”nothing difficult here and I don’t need a teacher”, so I went researching web. Few months later “the theory basics” were mostly covered, but next then next logically following question came up “Well, that’s all great, now I know it and what do I suppose to do with all of that now??” So the point I’m trying to make here is: If I wouldn’t accidentally found this app I’d probably still be “mastering to play scales” or just simply gave up on all of this “piano nonsense” and would have missed the whole FUN I’m having now.

I like it. Flowkey is good with showing the notes and the hands to let people know what note it is playing. It would be good to have an option to hide the hands to test that kids can actually read the notes and not just following the hand video

Absolutely fantastic. I am a beginner at keyboard and looked at several other tutorial lessons and this is by far the easiest in just a days. I’m actually quite pleased. I am making progress. Hoping to soon sign up for full membership. I would highly recommend

Bring back Howl’s Moving Castle 😭. Amazing app! I completed all the lessons and they have been great as introductions. However I just started learning Howl’s Moving Castle but they removed it a couple days back! Please bring it back 😭

Song Suggestion Forum!. Flowkey is very good! Is there a forum or place that we can suggest new song tutorials for you guys? Flowkey has many amazing and fun songs to learn, however, there are many iconic songs that I’d love to hear and learn. Such as the Mii Channel theme, Jaws Theme, Glen Miller In The Mood etc. That would be great!

Madan. As a beginner I wanted easy to understand structure. I tried several apps until I found flowkey which was super easy to use. I am quite happy to use and recommend it to anyone.

Great learning system. This app has excellent visuals, clear instructions and well thought through lessons. I have not played the piano or learned to read music before and this program caters well for beginners like me. What I like about this program is that you can revisit lessons to get more practice and focus on areas that pose a challenge. I very much like the way that the video clearly shows where the hand is placed as music is played and the ability to scroll in time through a piece of music. I have only scratched the surface of this app and I am confident that Flowkeys will be my go to music bible in years to come.

Wonderful learning tool and team. Although my use of the app was very limited, I did enjoy the program layout & music library. Unfortunately, I’d forgotten to cancel my subscription & had been charged for a renewal. I reached out to the team immediately after the renewal, & they were very kind & prompt to reimburse me & cancel the subscription. Would be happy to subscribe again in the future under different circumstances & will continue to recommend to friends & family.

Not listening. Has great potential. App is not able to progress through the notes when in learning mode listening through microphone. The follow along feature gets stuck sporadically as you play. I’ve noticed particularly gets stuck on B then I have to flick the notes to move to the next note. This happens throughout the song making learning this way frustrating when all you want to do is concentrate on where the next note is. Will unfortunately have to cancel within 7 day trial and try find an app that works

Good job!. Hello 👋 it is an awesome app, well done! I have learnt some songs, but I am very restricted to songs. It would be nice if you could make more of the songs free. Also, i can use my voice as the piano in wait mode, you can just hum the tune.... is it tracking everything I say? Other than that, I love this app a lot. Thank you for making it!

FlowKey’s for me!. I’m so happy! I’ve rediscovered my motivation to learn to play piano. I’ve been trying off and on for 50 years and while I still have a very long way to go, I think this time I’m going to get there. FlowKey has the songs and music I really want to learn. This is the motivation I’ve needed. And the user interface is so simple and easy to use. I’ve only been using it for 2 weeks, but now that first thing I do when I wake is practice piano, because I want to. I never thought I could find the time, but now I do! Thank you! I could go on, but just give it a try. Phil Francis Fitzroy North Australia

It needs work. Not bad but limited in amount of learning course material. The big advantage it has is the song library size, but I find it lacking in course structure and explanation of what to do or any sort of fundamentals for absolute beginners other follow along the notes on the screen (without teaching them to you first)

Inneffective teaching style and lack of song choices. You can get more songs, if you buy premium. I mean, like you can’t even play bad guy! (Unless you buy premium) And I was thinking, this would help me complete La Campanella, but nope, that’s also premium only. The teaching style is also ineffective, it doesn’t teach beginners the notes, and it is hard to learn the song unless you already knew it. Do not even get premium. Don’t even download it! Also they don’t have the full set of Hungarian Rhapsodies. only No.2

Enjoying it but would like more…. I’m enjoying the app, being new to piano it’s been a fun way to learn and the interface is clean and easy to use. More adult friendly than piano simple in my view. The things I would like to see added is an inbuilt metronome as timing is obviously important when practicing and I have to go out of the app and put this on a seperate app to practice. Also the ability to add seperate profiles so family members can use the app without paying for another Subscription would be nice. I would also like the option to buy a lifetime licence. Thanks

Flowkey. Sometimes we need to make a start at home on something that we always had a deep desire to learn. This app gives that chance. Using headphones I don’t disturb anyone when I’m using it. So my mistakes are always covered. 😻

Good app but lack of accompanying sheet music. Flowkey has good structure for beginners but does not provide the sheet music accompanied with the exercises making it very hard to follow. It would be great if the team can provide the excerpts of the sheet music, similar to what Simply Piano provides.

Good but,. This app is really awesome and helped to teach me piano but I was practicing two songs on there and the next morning they had just disappeared. They both were not anywhere and I have the premium membership. I don’t know why this happened, but it is really annoying. Please tell me why this happened and if it can be fixed!

Flow key. Flowkey is fun and is really good I think others should try it and rate five stars it’s great and I just never have a problem. I’m always playing perfectly. I’ve just learnt a song I already knew but with the chords I never knew I would learn until later years. I 🧡it

Confusing subscription options. Overall, I’m satisfied with the app features and so I was willing to subscribe. Then, I just noticed that $200 were purchased automatically from the app for the yearly subscription. However, when I looked back the subscription options, you guys had ranges of yearly subscription fees from $119 to $200 and they were all ‘flowkey premium’. What are the differences between those subscriptions? If there is not much difference I would much prefer pay $119 per year rather than $200. Except this confusion, I’m happy with your app but I think you need more clear description on each subscription options to reduce confusion.

My review of an app that got me into piano. I found this app from a youtuber entitled “Daniel thrasher”. I downloaded it because I was bored during quarantine and I needed to get myself a hobby. 2 weeks later I learned ode to joy off by heart and multiple others. If a reviewer sees this then get the app, yes it has a membership in order to get even better but it is like paying someone to have a chance to make even more money from something you are passionate about.

Needs count in. No free trial ripoff. Great app but needs count in and option for a metronome on the courses. Also reduce the amount of pop-ups and let them disappear when you start playing notes. Also fix having to move orientations of screen between courses and menus. Now am disappointed. I signed on for the free trial plus ONE MONTH SUBSCRIPTION thinking to cancel and actually go to 3 months. and there was no free trial it just went straight through

Amazing. This app is amazing. I would highly recommend it to beginners because it teaches you everything. It has courses to do and has all different levels for songs. If you are right handed and you can’t play with both hands, you can switch it to only your right hand or left. It is amazing the app.

Forced microphone. I got the 7 day free trial. I connected my iPad to my keyboard via MIDI. I clicked enable MIDI when I was in a song but with the courses it says I need to enable microphone but I want to use MIDI and not have my privacy breached. I don’t get why I’m forced to use microphone with the courses. I tried all the workarounds but nothing worked. I ended up deleting the app and unsubscribing. It made me very angry I was legit going to throw my iPad at the wall.

Nearly perfect. It’s a great App and i download it after not connecting with Skoove. Overall, I’m enjoying it and took out a subscription. It would be great to see a couple of features in the future: 1. Less App interaction, as in less pressing next or play, i want to keep my hands on the piano more. 2. Instead of just a green tick, show something like a gold star if you hit the note perfectly and in time. The green ticks can be false positives if you hit 3 notes before the right one or your timing is off. 3. The courses don’t seem in order of complexity. Sometimes it feels more advanced then it goes back to being easier. Other than that, i recommend trying the App, for me this one works and i spend a good hour practising every day and in a week I’m feeling more confident.

Flowkey is better than simplypiano. Unlike simplypiano, flowkey gives you time to memorise and play the keys and I learnt a song that my dad really likes and 10\10 learning app

High keys. Good app. So far. I have noticed a bug, the high keys such as G and higher on the right side of the second middle C are not recognised and so it will not let me go further until I hit other buttons even though I hit the right key notes. I hit other buttons so as to confuse the app. Or I sometimes have to repeatedly smash the key note until it recognises it. So I can continue playing the songs. Hesitant on buying it as it will be the same with premium. If it can’t recognise the right key note, you can’t progress which would be a waste of money plus the frustration in trying to get past the right key notes. Five star if the above issue is fixed and then I would try the premium.

Good app but... This is an amazing app, I totally recommend for all piano players. However, the courses in the app are not in order, please make the difficulty of the courses in order so it’s so much easier to understand. On the side note, flowkey teaches you lots of music theory and definitely encourages you to play! Highly recommend. But please fix the issue just to make everything easier. ❤️

Can you help?. I am a beginner. When playing with two hands ‘Ode to Joy’ it necessitates holding the left hand key down while playing four notes with the right BUT. The flowkey piano will not follow my playing unless I virtually immediately release the left key. I am playing the correct notes. Very frustrating for a beginner My daughter who also downloaded your app has experienced the same issue. But not with the same piece. I have deleted and reloaded the app I am playing on a key board as is my daughter. Her’s brand new Can you help? I have not tried

More songs. I signed up for a free month trial and forgot to end it resulting in a years subscription. At first I was upset but I decided to make the most of it and learn to play. I love the way this app teaches you to read and play music but I would really love to see more trending songs. Otherwise I definitely recommend this app! I would love to see some improvement tho!

Happy to recommend flowkey. I’m new to flowkey but so far so good 👍 it’s easy to understand, easy to follow and easy to use. You work at your own pace and you can repeat courses until you’re satisfied to move on, which happens quicker than you think possible. Highly recommended you have nothing to lose only a gain in playing with confidence Angela S Australia

Frustrating!. It’s a good way to learn, however not writing the finger numbers on notes when hand position changes.. so you have to look at the person’s hands to figure it out. Would be much simpler to have the numbers notated. Also really need an option to have the sheet music static, and without the app having to hear the keys. Often it’s not hearing the keys, so I have to stop and pound the same notes a few times. Totally ruining any flow! Also several songs don’t have the song lyrics which is also frustrating. When subscribing, it signs you up for the whole year, not month by month which was not clear.

This app is amazingly simple. This app offers an in depth course from all degrees of learning from beginner to expert, i have been able to play a couple of songs per day using this app very simple and straight forward, makes absorbing all of the information needed so fun and easy! I look forward to using this app for a very long time and have recommended to a lot of people interested in learning piano, thanks again!

Slow feedback; can’t print sheet music. There is very little instruction and answers to simple questions take 1-3 weeks. Would like to print sheet music to write notes on as this is my learning style. Faster feedback and access to printable sheet music PDFs for songs played would be better.

Good for learning, not for playing. I just got myself a month subscription and I am looking to go get a year plan at the end of the month. I have confidently learned two songs but I get head aches from straining my eyes on my phone and concentrating on playing. I really like the app but if there was an option to print out sheet music would really help when going back and playing older songs after you have taught it to yourself. Cheers a really good app though

Amazing app. I’m 45 years old beginner just starting from zero, I’m still using the 7 days free trial and I’m so happy. Just wondering if have still have Lifetime Premium Subscrition. Thank you so much!!!

Where are my fingers?. The videos of finger positions are great. I’m spending a lot of time studying and copying how the pianist moves his fingers between positions. By doing this I’ve learnt the tricks he uses to know where the keys are, especially by use of the black keys.

Little annoyances but otherwise good.. Not sure what happens after the free trial month, but at the moment it’s not giving me whole songs. My other couple of annoyances are, it would be great to swap the layout by choice, with keyboard below the score. Plus ability to add some notes to along the music, eg if want to play parts as crescendo, or add peddle at particular points etc. Really wish this technology had been available and affordable decades ago, would have made learning so much more fun :)

Has potential. This app has so much potential, but when you start the selection of songs you get is so small. And with the songs that you can play without premium you only have beginner or intermediate, now I’m not mad at the creators they have to get money somehow but I think they could have added more songs for the people who don’t want to use premium or can’t get premium.

Amazing. This is absolutely brilliant the subscription costs a bit much but my school bought it for my grade we’ve been learning piano it’s a bit easier for me cause I’ve been playing for a couple years but I love this app! It’s amazing. -Alki

Just wow. I’ve been tinkering with the piano for months, tried some lesson books, online lessons and to be honest it wasn’t going to well. Then I found flowkey, just wow, this is the most effective way to learn piano. Thank you flowkey.

Plz more anime songs. The app is extremely good and it was really easy too learn songs but I’m a weirdo and am obsessed with anime songs I was really happy that there was the attach on titan opening but after that there weren’t to many maybe like 2 more so I’m really hoping someone sees this and adds more but it still is a great app and I will continue using it for a long time 👍

Love the start. I am not that tech savvy but I was able to follow the instructions well. I think I like this. In order to write a review I need to know what else I am in for before making payment. How do I choose a song melody I like? How much practice I can have for each song? Will the online instructor guide just like his I learnt my first song Ode to Joe?

Good but with a bug. I really like the way Flowkey is set up. The lessons are easy to follow but as others have mentioned you do have to constantly click on Continue etc to progress. My main problem is that I am using the app with a digital keyboard and the app has difficulty picking up when I play the bass clef and thus stops progression. Will this issue be fixed if I connect my iPad to the keyboard via a cable? Does the cable facilitate the app picking up what I am playing? Would love a response as I do really like the app and fixing this glitch would be great.

App is great except for a few bugs. As an absolute beginner this App is great. My only complaint is that the function where the app waits for you to hit the correct note is troublesome when the app doesn’t hear the correct note even when you play it. For me it seems to hate the notes of E and F, whenever I get to these notes I have to repeat a few times before the app moves on (no matter the volume). Other than that, I have found the app very useful

Good but could have improvements. Overall It’s a good app to start learning piano, the courses teach you all the basics in an easy to understand way, there are many beginner friendly songs and you can learn at your own speed. It’s a really quick way to just learn some songs or as an aid to learning piano. Some improvements that would make it even more useful: - The ability to download the songs as printable sheet music - A more in depth course about music notation - More information on the sheet music (fingering, dynamics, pedals etc) - Built in metronome! - Ability to change the layout (no visuals/ on different parts of the screen) These additions would make the app so much better as it has a lot of potential.

App is definitely helpful for learning piano. This app is amazing, after a couple of months of complaining to my parents to buy me simply piano they told me use flowkey I immediately refused and downloaded simply piano after a while with simply piano I hadn't learned much so I gave flowkey a try and now I can play so many great songs like entertainer, fur Elise, and let it go. I definitely recommend the game but I just have one request could you please add the gambler it is my favourite song and skoove isn't helping me.

What about monthly subscriptions?. This app has a week of free trial in which I had a couple of plays and I enjoyed using it. Unfortunately the subscription is yearly so the developer doesn’t really provide users with enough time to make a decision as to whether a yearly subscription is worth it. So thumbs down for that.

I love this app so much!!. I just got a keyboard and I am learning new songs. I am improving every day and can nearly play fur Elise. It’s the best piano/keyboard app I have seen so far. But can you please maybe add some more songs in free section.

Really helpful. I find this really fun, it is very good if your looking for easy and hard songs to learn, it also has very easy ways and instructions on learning these songs. The best part is that it has a huge variety of songs to learn. I definitely recommend it.

Very easy to follow the notes and play along with either hand or both hands. Love this app only needs to put numbers for the fingers under the notes when it changes so you know which finger needs to be change. Otherwise love this way to learn at your own time and learn to hear the notes and how it’s played before you start. What is should should like. Love the way the iPad can hear the notes as you play and it will only move forward when you hit the right notes.

Confused - minor scales no raised 7th??. So far I’m loving the app for playing pieces and getting back into piano. I played for years as a child but lost touch with it. I was going through the scales lessons to brush up and noticed that they teach minor scales without the raised 7th??! Very odd! A harmonic minor scale is much more commonly used than a narural minor scale. Seems like a very odd choice

Annoying. I downloaded this app because I wanted to learn songs but almost every song is premium and you have to pay for it. At this point I would just go on YouTube because they have way more options

Sucks. This sucks

Problem with the 7 day trial. The app stated that there was a 7 day free trial and then i will have to pay for the full year subscription. However, after i clicked the 7 day free trial, it automatically charged me the full price on the one year without give me the 7 day trial. Haven’t heard back from the in app customer service and also submitted a request for refund with apple. I hope you guys can fix this problem so others won’t get this trouble. Thanks

Sometimes broken. Whenever I play it will sometimes not recognize my notes.

Report situation. My daughter wanted to test the 7-day trial, but she lost interest after 5 days, therefore I cancelled it, but two days later I received a notification that $183.74 had been taken from my account. I attempted to report the situation so as to obtain a refund, but I haven’t yet receive a response until now.

Inconsistent. Lower notes not always or immediately recognized by the app when playing on the piano

Ravis mais. Il serait encore plus intéressant de pouvoir noter sur les partitions et pouvoir les imprimer. Aussi avoir la chanson Frédéric de Claude Léveillé serait génial et autre artistes du Québec

Too much lag to be useful. Too much lag to be useful and even though we let them know immediately, we couldn’t get a refund. A very expensive mistake for us.

Very good app. So I was looking for a piano app and then I found this app. The subscription is 7.99 tho, but it’s better than simply piano’s 21.99.

Not really good. You have to pay 175$ just for premium 😡😡😡

Review i guess. I have been doing music for over 3 years with my teacher but with quarantine I had to stop and I kind of forgot everything. Then my mom found this app and I play my piano every day know. I am extremely happy! My mom never played the piano but when she started to play the moonlight sonata of of the professional stage I was really surprised. Anyway this app is amazing. Total recommend.:)

Good but too expensive. Should be like max 10$ per month

Doesn’t work. I purchased the annual subscription and it doesn’t work. Total waste of money. I’m canceling the subscription.

Premium does not unlock after paying. Really loved the functionality but after deciding to pay $27.95 USD/month to subscribe, the app will not unlock premium version. Have messaged for help but am on day 2 of not being able to use what I have paid for. Support takes forever to answer any question. Just an FYI before you sub.

Not great.. I don’t want to pay for it and I can only get three free songs. 😒 horrible. I was excited to use it.

The key re doesn't work. It doesn't work well so i can't practice!!!

It is good. It is good

Absolutely magnificent. This is the first review I’ve ever written for an app, but flowkey deserves it. At the time I’m writing this, I’ve been teaching myself the piano on flowkey and a few other ways for just under a year now. Before I get into some critiques, I want to say that this app is a godsend. Flowkey is helped me become comfortable and confident when it comes to playing the piano, it makes learning songs much easier especially with its wait mode. Being able to practice three measures with my right, then left hand, then together has helped me accelerate my learning to speed that I didn’t even know it was possible. I have fallen in love with the piano, and most of it stems from me downloading and taking a chance on this app. thank you developers of flowkey you’ve helped me find a hobby that I truly love! I could give y’all 4.5 stars but there are some things that would be really nice to change. 1) let users disable the feature that shows how the song is played above the written music. i’ve developed a really bad habit of following along with the person playing the highlighted notes, above the written notes. my site reading hasn’t improved substantially. Partly because of this, partly because it’s my own fault to begin with. However, I feel like learning the notes would’ve came to me a lot faster if I could’ve disabled that at one point. 2) let me zoom in on the written notes on the iPad version of flowkey. On my phone I can on my iPad I can’t I’d really like to be able to zoom in on the written notes or the highlighted notes being played at some points. 3) Allow users to listen to one specific hand being played at full speed, rather than the 50 and 75% that’s only allowed on iPad. Kind of annoying to have to pull up my phone to listen to one hand being played at full speed. 4) more courses!!! flowkey has me addicted to learning songs. Practice for a half hour to an hour daily however, I really enjoyed the courses especially when I just started learning. I feel like if there is more courses, I could refine my skills even more and even faster. Thanks again for this amazing app. The critiques above are not game changers and flowkey is still 100% worth anyone’s time especially if they’re just starting. I’m looking forward to seeing how the developers continue to improve this app!!!

Too expensive. I would rather pay 1$ per song than 27$ a month. It’s waaaay too pricy but the way they teach is amazing. I wanted to learn more about music theory too but I couldn’t because everything is locked. Quite disappointed.

Trying to delete this app from my purchases. This app was loaded as a free app, but once loaded I saw that there will be charges after one week, that I did not approve. I could not delete it from my purchases, and would like it removed. I do not want any fees charged. It is very misleading to say Free, then once downloaded start charging.

Free subscription not easily cancellable. I canceled subscription before free period was up but it was not really canceled. I was charged 201$! Asked for a refund.

So expensive. This is the most expensive piano app I've seen, no thanks!

Definitely Recommend!. This is an AWESOME app! I would definitely recommend to anyone who plays piano and loves it! I also love that there are four different levels of difficulty:Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Pro. I got the full version during the New Years sale and I have been enjoying it ever since! One thing tho...I had a piano that was out of tune, so It couldn’t detect which notes I was playing and I had to get a keyboard...is there a solution for that? Other than that, absolutely LOVE this app! Edit: Just wanted to say you guys did a great job making this app and I think every piano lover should have it!

Amazing app. The best feature in my opinion is the left hand and right hand isolation it’s so helpful. I 100% recommend this app. The only thing is that more songs in the future would be enjoyable to have.

Insanely Expensive. Far too expensive for what you get.

Accidental purchase can’t get a refund. I accidentally purchased the one year plan and it won’t let me get a refund. I’m pretty upset about this, especially since this app won’t let you actually download sheet music. The videos are nice but make things confusing when you’re actually trying to play pieces and learn how to read notes. I definitely would not recommend this app, and am upset that i can’t even contact anyone to speak about getting a refund for my situation.

Change automatically after loaded. As loaded for 7 days trial, didn’t ask customer which option price as approved. Charged top price premium $195.99. This app is not enough explanation. How can we refund the payment? Thanks

Love the app. Please add full lyrics to all song versions. Please add a full page view where we can view the whole song if we want we can see where we are in the song. Please add more songs :)

Excellente application. Très bonne application pour apprendre à jouer du piano! En plus elle est disponible en français contrairement à Simply Piano qui n’est qu’en anglais.

Stupid app for free options. There are literally NO free options in the app. You only get like 7 songs and all the other ones you need premium. Premium can cost you over 100$!! Flowkey, you better make more free songs in your app like ALL of the video game themes should be free. If you guys don’t add more free songs to the app, I will never use your app. Make it more free. Are you ever going to?

My experience with flowkey. Flowkey has been very helpful and unlike other piano tools has helpful features such as hand selection and wait mode making it very useful to learn music.

It sucks. I already know how to play ode to joy but it’s tabbed out differently than I learned it and it won’t let me skip

Great app. 10 minutes into using the app and can play ode to joy melody, the note recognition feature gives it a guitar feel and turns it into a game. Fun so far

Variety?. I feel like the amount you pay doesn’t match up to variety ?

Flowkey is an excellent app. I have learned to play beautiful songs I enjoy it every minute while practicing the piano I have tried different apps. Flowkey is the best.

Français?. Vous annoncez en français et pourtant seule la publicité est en français 😓

Great application to learn piano. Love this application

Keeps on sending you emails and too pricy. It’s says it’s free but it’s not and it has a very little Variety. When you delete the app you still have tons of emails everyday from flowkey

THE PRICE. It’s an amazing app but the prices are WAY to high.

Too slow. The lessons don’t hear the piano half the time. It sucks the fun out of it.

Boo premium. If you're going to give us a thing full of lessons LET US FINISH IT

Worst ever app I have use. Can’t event recognize the piano sound. Thanks for the charge

Best piano game. This piano game teach me a lot about piano it is super good. You have to try it for yourself if you want to learn piano.

Misleading prices watch out. This company missed lead me to think that I was paying a discounted price for the holidays. They discounted it from 999 and then charge you American. Which ends up probably being about the same price

S. The app doesn’t recognize the notes when i play with both hands

It doesn’t listen to your piano properly. I was stuck on the same note for five minutes hitting the key over and over again, the apps listening capabilities are useless

Not many songs I know. I thought I would get a ton of songs for the price I paid. But being a beginner - I’m only eligible for a small amount and majority of them I’ve never heard of or want to learn to play. I wish I could have seen their selection before paying close to $100 for the year

Paid and won’t let me in. Same as a lot of folks. Paid the subscription and it won’t give me access. Will update if customer support gets back to me and gives me prompt refund

Doesn’t recognize the keys when I press. This app frustrates me so much. I bought 6 months because at first I thought it was good. I’ve been trying to each myself piano (don’t know how to read music or anything). After using it for 3 months now it honestly frustrates me so much to the point I don’t even want to practice. The app doesn’t recognize the keys when I press it half the time. And for the lessons, it doesn’t teach you very much about reading sheet music and how to memorize the keys.

E. I couldn't play it 😿

If some keyboard keys are out of tune it won’t continue. Good except extremely frustrating when the music won’t advance when in wait(listening) mode if any of your keys are slightly out of tune. Only other option is to use the modes that continue at a steady pace even if you get behind. I wish you could set the sensitivity level to less sensitive so it would continue even of the note is up to a half step off. Also would be nice if you could print music. It works with your phone but if you have abigger phone or ipad it would be better since my phone screen is too small. Lots of cool somgs though.

Best piano learning app EVER. Me and my friend have got other apps and you have to buy them to learn. Flowkey lets you do some songs without buying it! If you buy it (I seriously recommend that you buy it)you get access to every thing. They have SO many great songs for beginners, intermediate, advanced, and pro! You can even pick the type of songs you want to look at. If you don’t know anything about piano they have courses that step by step teach you everything you need to know. If you don’t know if you want to get this app I really recommend it.

Kinda good but jumps a bit for new learners. I like the lessons but I’ve found that as I advance into intermediate level the chosen music pieces at each the end of each level are more advanced than the concept just having been taught. For example, the creators tell you once where C, F, G are and then jump quickly to the assumption that the user automatically mastered reading sheet music and quickly being able to key C,F and G up and down the octaves. Later, when learning sharp notes, the final music piece for that level just have one or two sharp notes. Instead the intro piece has quick quarter notes and it jumps across two octaves including several sharps and clumsy fingering jumps. There are much better sheet music choices for beginning learners to advance at intermediate levels so why pick such difficult ones to learn via remote learning. Add an easier sheet music options at the intermediate level and then add a more complex one.

In essence it’s nice, less so in practice. I spent eight hundred dollars on a decent keyboard that flowkey can’t seem to understand in the wait mode. I get to repeatedly hit D And E until the dumb app hears it. Other notes I hit wrong and it keeps flowing thru the music. I’d rather have sheet music. Corrections to be made, give me a page of music to play so I don’t have to use wait mode or let me tell the app what sound to recognize. It’s almost useless to use for basic songs and I end up writing the notes down on lined paper which is really lame for the price I paid for a subscription. It makes songs unlearnable this way and you’ve had this issue for well over a year based on many other reviews.

Great app, just a few issues. Overall, I love the app. It teaches you the basics and provides you with sheet music for $20 a month. Most lessons (depending on the teacher, and when I took lessons) cost around $60 per hour. It’ll also guide you through how to play each piece, which is amazing. The only downside for me was pretty much the microphone. Whenever I would play through a song, it would either have me play a note really loudly to move on (to the point where it hurt my fingers) or it would move on when I didn’t play anything. Other than that, truly incredible experience.

Worth the money for the lessons!. In my opinion, the creators of this app did a fantastic job of dividing up options when it comes to playing a song. In addition, the lessons it gives start very basic and get harder, which is helpful. There seems to be a lot of information to use. I also really like how you can create about 4 different profiles. I wanted to use it along with my children, so we each have a profile for our variety of purposes. Great job!!!! For $15 a month, for what it offers, I think this is a great app!

Not worth the frustration. I never leave reviews, but this app has frustrated me so much that I have to. The idea that the app can hear you play notes is awesome, however half of the time I’m playing keys on my piano along with the app it won’t pick up that I’ve played. So I will be sitting there smashing the same key over and over again until it finally picks it up. Ultimately when I finish with the measures it wants me to play it makes me do it over because the app thinks I struggled with it. The app worked great when I learned the right hand of Ode to Joy but after I payed for the year subscription it seems nearly impossible to use. I want to learn piano, but so far I think I’m better just buying a book and teaching myself. In my opinion this app is not worth the subscription.

Idk of it’s my phone or the app. When I play, the app doesn’t pick up most of my notes. So while i’m playing it won’t record my progress. It makes it almost impossible to know the song when part way through it stops showing me the music and focuses on one note. I think it’s a problem with my phones mic, but i’m not 100% sure. I have to put the volume on my keyboard really high, and then there is a 50-50 chance of the notes not being heard. I only just downloaded it, but hopefully I can just load up normal sheet music and not use the mic. But over all it’s a pretty good app, I think my phone is just messed up :P.

Song Requests. This app is so amazing and I really love it. However, when you request a song, it takes forever for your requested songs to be upload. I requested a couple of songs on June 11th and then a few more on July 20th. That would mean that I’ve been waiting for about 6 months. I understand that the songs that I requested might not be popularly requested ,hence why it’s takes a while, but I wished that someone could like be assigned to producing the most requested songs and then have another person assigned to produce the less requested songs (If they aren’t already doing this). Other than that, this app is fine.

It would be a wonderful app if it could recognize Ds played on a Yamaha P125.. I just bought a Yamaha P125 and am trying this app as an adult trying to get back to playing beginner/intermediate piano after not playing since college. The app is impressive except for the fact that when doing exercises it will not reliably recognize Ds played in any octave and freezes so that you can not progress unless you randomly keep doing it and hitting Ds as hard as possible to get them to register. I am using a USB-C to midi port cable to run this on an iPad Pro. I hoped I could use this, but if this keeps up I may have to cancel before the end of the free trial.

I’ll say few problems 🙃. I love this app. I did piano with a teacher at a music school but it wasn’t working because it was online. I starting in person then pandemic came. The first was kinda a review when I got this app but soon it won’t be. The thing is that they don’t teach u how to read the music or the notes. They were doing whole notes and half notes before u know it and that makes it not the best. I did piano and am pretty good but for beginners we need to change that. Other than that this app is amazing😁. I will use it tomorrow and the day after definitely. 😊

Where are my songs?. I’ve been using this over a year and in December 2023, all of my favorited songs were gone. I’ve been trying to add them back and now realize DOZENS that I was enjoying playing are GONE! It doesn’t matter if they were from Coldplay, Lala Land or an artist I’ve never heard of. They are gone. I’m SO disappointed. I’d requested some Contemporary Christian music, as there is none…nothing. I was doing okay without the Christian music, but to WIPE OUT my current collection and then REMOVE SONGS so I can’t rebuild it, is terrible—there’s no way to know what I had!!! I’d been recommending this app. Not anymore. The songs I enjoyed and bragged about are gone. I DON’T EVEN LIKE IT NOW! If you just could have kept what you had! I’m looking for a replacement.

What the heck is wrong with this app. I didn’t get the premium but I can’t do anything none of the songs are unlocked I can’t finish the lesson or course and it’s super annoying it’s not fair just because I don’t play doesn’t mean I shouldn’t get to finish stuff and it doesn’t teach me half an ounce but almost all the songs have half an ounce doesn’t he teach me eighth notes about all the songs have eight notes it’s the worst one of all I can’t believe I got this game and everybody who gave 5 to 4 stars they got the premium and it’s not fair to you to spend $118 a year which turned into like 120 a year I mean a year for a bunch of lessons I take private lessons and it’s not that much I mean I don’t have that money for a year I can’t give away that much money a year I can’t

Disappointing. No option to skip the tutorials where the hands play, twice. Imagine how frustrating it is to press skip twice, every single time you want to just go practice a scale. Sometimes even in the middle of a scale! Instead of being able to concentrate on the keys and what you’re doing, you have to avert your attention to the interface and press skip, and/or scroll through the video multiple times to get to the part where you actually play your piano. Also the app flips between portrait and landscape on iPhone, which is just basic stuff. Come on folks, get it together. I have an annual subscription but I won’t be renewing it. It’s a shame because this app has (or had) potential. Go look at some US-made software for ideas on doing better.

Wonderful!. I’ve been taking piano lessons for five years and I want to start playing songs for fun. This app has allowed me to play Perfect. So far I’m still learning it, but I like it a lot. It would be nice if there were an option to slow down the music as it’s passing. And perhaps if I could select to look at just the sheet music and not the pianist. Otherwise, this is awesome! I have no complaints. Now I just wish I had a way to pay for premium! 😅 Thank you for this app. I have a feeling that piano is going to be much more enjoyable. -Pianist

Phenomenal app. I’ve only been playing the piano a year. Before using this app it took me months to learn a new song. With this app you will learn songs in a third of the time! Or maybe even less!!! The price is incredibly reasonable given that private instruction can cost up to $60 an hour. I’ve discovered beautiful classical songs on here to play that I would have never encountered before. Whether you want to play an easy pop tune or master an advanced Chopin piece, Flowkey has something for everyone at every level. Flowkey is an essential for all piano students!

Best in update and chat system. I purchased flowkey 8 months ago. Actually I bought a new Yamaha U1 piano after purchasing flowkey one year version. I took the lessons step by step and some times asked question in chat section and the answered me under 24 hours. Now after 8 months I can play Advanced songs. In first days I couldn't believe 8 months later I can play thin kind of difficult songs. In my period of learning (this 8 months I mean), Flowkey made over 4 hundreds songs in 4 levels. Unquestionably best App I have ever experienced in Piano learning.

A new way to learn?. This is the best piano app I have ever tried. It’s truly that great. Whether you were trained classically with the piano, or have been recently introduced to it, this app will proved you with a way of discovering new pieces that might have been more difficult otherwise. If you’re just getting back into playing the piano, this app has fantastic ways of reminding you how to read sheet music. For those who are accustomed to reading from traditional sheet music, I beseech you to give this more modern take the fare opportunity it deserves.

First lesson. First lesson - very interactive... allowed multiple practice repetition until I felt I was able to move to the next task. Too soon to tell what the future holds but it seems if I’m motivated, this process seems to be the very best I have located online to date. I’ve looked at over 12 apps until I found this ... as a beginner with very little (essentially No history playing the piano) I learned notes and a simple tune as I learned the notes with the first lesson. Good luck - I believe any young person age 10 and up cpu;d do well with this...

Why won’t it recognize the C notes below middle C on my Yamaha digital piano. I am a new beginner piano player and have a Yamaha P-125. I have trouble completing the left hand and both hand exercises because this app will not recognize the c notes below middle C and it is very frustrating and breaks up the flow of the course pounding On the C note until this thing recognizes it. I am paying for this app too and it’s hard to learn songs!! I am using my iPhone but I don’t have other iOS devices. I think I want to cancel my subscription and get my money back since this app won’t work the way it’s intended and I know it’s not the keyboard that’s the problem.

Love love love. This is honestly better then taking lessons; and about half the price! It is SO easy to learn, and it has different levels for everyone! It also helps you learn piano instead of just showing you the music. Also, when I first got this app, I had absolutely NO IDEA how to read music, but I have still learned so much. They have almost every song you can think of ready to learn, and it can listen to you play so that you make sure you aren’t playing anything wrong. Overall, I love this app and I’ve learned SO MUCH! TOTALLY RECOMMEND

This is the best piano app available. I’m an intermediate player and I’ve tried all the piano apps out there. I was particularly fond of Simply Piano, but after spending a few hours on Flowkey, its clear to me that this is far superior and plays much better songs without the cheesy singer. The loop feature is fantastic and easy to use. The courses are good too. No need to take the courses if you don’t want to, you can simply learn great songs right away. I upgraded to premium after about 30 minutes. I’m hooked!

My first review ever... and it’s bad. You have to pay money and I’m not saying that is the problem but you also have pay premium for the lessons and a lot of the songs that aren’t even complete and I don’t think thats fair. Its not just on the piano that it recognizes but it also has voice recognition and skips a few notes because there is noise in the background and just recognizes the notes but not how many beats there is. And when there is a rest, it ignores that. I still kinda like it but not as much as before. Plus, it does not teach the notes and I learned more from my piano classes

Needs some work but a lot of potential. I like the app, song selection is great. However, it has a very difficult time picking up notes in wait mode. I’ve used other piano apps such as yousician and they don’t nearly have as bad a time hearing the notes as this app does. I have even tried external mics connected to the iPad and it still has issues with certain ones. I also believe the layout of the screen has too much black space. I think the hands section should be at the bottom and the sheet music be moved to the top and also made larger. This should help fill the space and help with neck strain a little with the focus being the sheet music at the top.

Great app but... This is a great app, it lets you choose sections of the music, it listens to you play and waits, or you could just play along. The fingers above also help me for where I place my hands at, but there seems to be a problem with the waiting, it’s quite frustrating to have to play a note a few times in a row before the song continues, and it majorly ruins my flow of playing. Especially when I’m using the wait on both of my left and right hand the wait time seems to confuse itself. Again, great app but could use some tweaking in that place.

Lacking. This seemed great at first but failed to provide guidance for longer than 2 weeks. I regret committing to a subscription because while the first courses were good, I quickly ran out of courses. And now, 8 weeks later and lots of practicing songs, I still cannot read notes in a way that allows me to translate it onto the keys. This program needs more courses for beginners and exercises to help learn the notes. In addition, I found it really annoying having to go back to courses to try to find the songs I learned there. These should automatically save to “my songs” and have another category below “beginner”.

Not great for beginners. If you’re looking to learn the piano with this app, then I would not recommend. There isn’t too much content for beginners. It gets your feet wet in terms of music element introduction (note types, key signature, time signature, etc.) I have some understanding of the piano, but bass clef isn’t my strongest. That being said, the note names aren’t provided so it’s hard to learn to read the notes. In conjunction with a teacher or other resources, this app is great because it does have a plethora of songs you can learn and the sheet music is provided. I think Flowkey can improve on providing beginner users more content to actually learn the instrument.

Best thing so far. I’ve been using the app for a while now and it’s definitely the best thing I’ve found so far. I’ve recently tried at least 5 other apps but decided to go back to flowkey after a week because nothing else suited me. The only tiny issue is that sometimes it doesn’t registered certain notes, even after few attempts and banging on the keyboard. When you’re a beginner it can be quite discouraging when you have to stop all the time. I did find that other applications have the same issue though

Can print the actual sheet music!:(. I always wanted to play this one song from this app. I finally decided to spend 19 dollars for a subscription just to get the sheet music for this one piece. I was very exited, then found out that it only TEACHES you how to play it and doesn’t give you the actual music to site read and only gives you one section at a time. To my knowledge there’s no way to actually obtain the sheet music to sight read in your own. I think this was not a smart choice, for i only want one song which is an arrangement and I can’t get to that piece anywhere else. Please make an option where you can download and print a song. I spent 19 dollars of a 25 dollar itunes gift card I just got from a friend. now almost all of it is wasted. If you are looking for sheet music from this app, please don’t waste all of that money and time.

Helpful but pricey. I used another service to teach myself the basics so I haven’t tried the lessons. There is a pretty good song selection and there is a tool to help loop. However, it would be beneficial if the songs came with preset loops that you can follow along in a kind of lesson to master the song. This way was very helpful another program and would add value to flowkey. There is also an issue using this on my Mac because I am told I have to download another app to use my midi cord but then am told I can’t download it. Overall, good idea and selection but could use some more user friendly ways to navigate inside a song without having to continually change the loop to practice.

Rare that I review an app. My 9YO asked if he could take piano lessons, and I said if he taught himself a few songs on a Yamaha keyboard (easier to get rid of than a real piano) we’d agree. Yamaha included a free trial of this app with the keyboard. Fast forward two years and we’ve got a keyboard on every floor of the house, and a Yamaha U3 upright piano in the playroom. He loves learning new songs (recently Undertale themes and Super Mario) and it’s wonderful to hear live music throughout the house. App does remarkably well hearing notes/pitch/octave from the U3, and we use the MIDI interface with the Apple USB connector for the keyboards; keeps iPad charged and he can also use headphones while playing. All these features work flawlessly. Granted, a great deal is up to the pianist, but this app was the gateway to what I suspect will be a lifetime of enjoyment for my son. Needless to say, I eventually purchased the lifetime subscription.

One of the best piano learning apps on the market. Flowkey manages to combine simplicity but yet packing a lot of powerful features. The ability to see the sheet music + keyboard notes + player hands position in the same screen is incredibly useful. Also the wait mode and the ability to control the song progress by sliding on the screen is amazing! I move it back and forth many times watching the players hands on the piano, until I get the position of each finger correctly. Keep up the awesome work!

Overall very happy. I’ve been using this about a month and overall I really like it. I have 2 issues that would make it a 5 if they could be fixed! 1: I would love the option to see the option to place the music bars above the finger placement view. It would make it so much easier for me to see. 2: I find it incredibly frustrating that I can print he sheet music, or at least see the song I’m practicing as regular sheet music on my screen. I hate being limited to seeing only a few bars at the time. PLEASE consider these requests!

Very Faulty Wait Mode. While the actual material in this app is great, there are a lot of problems with the wait mode that make learning with this app incredibly more difficult. A lot of the time even the slightest noise in the background, or sometimes even in complete silence, the lesson will just skip notes I was supposed to play while trying to figure it out. It’s also incredibly frustrating to play the exact thing it is asking me to play, and it not budge until I press the key like 4 times. Sometimes nothing will happen until I play the note in a lower octave. Great idea and the resources are there but the execution of the app leaves much to be desired especially considering I payed for 6 months of this app.

Wonderful Customer Service. I bought a new piano and had difficulty connecting the app, my iPad, and my clavinova, but Laura in customer service worked patiently with me to get everything working smoothly. Love the multitude of songs, lessons, and interaction as you learn each song at your own pace. Flowkey is an Amazing piano teacher! I had enough prior knowledge to read music for the most part so started at more of an intermediate level but had not played in many years. Now, I am loving learning piano again!

Amazing IF YOU USE iPad to USB/keyboard adapter. It is really important that you buy a keyboard and all necessary adapters to hook up directly to your iPad. The listening for the proper note is a great idea and allows anyone to try the app, but if your serious and want to get the most out of the app you have to plug your iPad into your keyboard. Trust me. The listening mode just gets frustrating. This app and it’s courses are amazing! You can tell the developers put a lot into this. Keep it up guys! I would love to see more courses. The operational control given in learning individual songs is such good work.

Enjoy it but glitches with my chosen device. I really enjoy this program including the pace of the lessons and the song choice. What makes it almost unfit for purpose is that it doesn’t recognize the sound of playing certain notes on the wait mode. So I will be in the flow of a song and get to a g or an a, especially in the lower registers and it will just get stuck and I will have to either sing the note or take my hands off the keys to manual progress past the stuck note. I have tried a lot of things, but something just isn’t jiving with my iPad and the programs registering certain notes.

Great app to invest in. I’ve been using flowkey for about a month to learn the piano and am happy with the product. Their introductory courses taught me most of what I know on piano now. It would be nice if flowkey could add a feature to hide the hands at the top of the screen while learning songs. I’m trying to learn to sight read and my eyes always wander to the hands playing piano instead of looking at the sheet music. It would also be great if they added more to their courses library, in specific more sight reading practice and more practice with cords. Despite these requests I’d still recommend to people that want to get into playing piano but don’t know where to start.

Good but lots of room for improvement. Good for learning songs but not for learning piano. Wish I could hide the keyboard hinting so I can focus on learning to read sheet music. Seems light that wouldn’t be a big ask. They have solved many of the fundamentals. But no progress on my request after writing the team about it. Also they need more songs from Bach’s WHOLTTEMPERIERTES KLAVIER and Goldberg Variations. Or a way to input the sheet music. Seems easy to play along if they make the keyboard video view optional (not required for those of us who want to focus on reading sheet music but with a program to give us instant feedback and help us along with fingering numbers.

The frustrating moments outweigh the good stuff. I love a lot about this app. I like the courses, being able isolate the hands and sections of music, and being able to see someone’s hands also playing the music. However, as soon as the app has trouble hearing your notes, you will get very frustrated very fast. In some of the courses you will be forced to repeat your practice over and over again because the app thinks you’re not playing the right notes. It actually makes me play worse and unable to complete parts of a course. I miss the version before that just had you play through a few times and then carry on. It’s like a video game you can’t win. Horrible.

All Flash, No Sizzle. Wonderfully beautiful app with great learning tools. If you are just looking for easy songs to play that are recognizable an easy to learn then this might be a good choice. However, the value is just not there. You can find more amateurish versions online for free or similar professional lessons by others for much less. I was excited to see Billy Joel’s Piano Man as an option, but when I started the lesson I found the version here to be way too rudimentary to be labeled an “expert” lesson. They didn’t even include the intro! What they did include was nothing like any version ever played by Mr. Joel. Anyway, if you don’t really care what version you learn and have tons of cash lying around then by all means, sign up! But if you want more authentic content and consider yourself frugal, please look elsewhere!!

Frustrating. Flowkey needs to work in the technical functionality of the app before charging so much. The selection of songs is alright and the idea of the app is great, but it barely works. There are so many features that don’t work on an iPhone, apps are not available for certain tablets, and the browser version only works in certain versions of certain browsers. I’ve had to have multiple conversations with flowkey customer service to figure out a solution that only kind of works. The wait mode on the app was interesting, but it cannot hear certain notes and you have to play them over and over. Every time I use it, I feel more frustrated rather than having fun or learning something. I wasted my money on this app.

Excellent but it would be nice if…. I’ve learnt how to play some of my favorite songs with this app. However I would like to know if there’s a way the app can be set up in a specific language. My phone is in Korean since is my target language, however, the app automatically switches to Korean and the keyboard won’t display as ABCD… but Korean characters which makes impossible for me to follow the songs. Is there any way I can make the language of this app independent from my phone’s?

So much variety. I am currently on the 3 month free trial due to an Yamaha piano purchase. In the past three days I used the app, I realized that there were so many good songs. The songs all mostly have a beginner/intermediate option which is helpful for people like myself that has a piano without a teacher. I roughly learned the sugar plum fairy within two days of using the app. Also there are many songs, I would like to see more Asian songs. (Keep in mind they do have a whole section for Asian songs but personally I don’t think that’s enough)

Teaching just ok. In my younger days I took traditional piano lessons and was taught music theory but I found it boring and didn’t stick with it. I learned to read music and 40 years later I still can. I liked the idea that the app would listen and help correct however the scrolling thru the songs is a pain and the app listening is either the right or the left hand notes not both. I would prefer the ability to print out digitally or physically the music so that I could work on the parts I need to. I am sorry I purchased the year in advance and would recommend purchasing little at a time.

Elegant but too elegant!. Missing some basic adjustments that could really help me out: e.g., I wish I could change the playback rate to an arbitrary percentage, not just 50% or 75%. And I wish the loop feature didn’t have a pause between instances: e.g., such that I could loop on the beat. I’m sure it’s just a limitation of the technology, but some chords don’t get recognized the first time I play them, in wait mode. Some songs (e.g. Swan Lake) the app gets stuck; it can’t recognize the notes despite me trying my electronic piano at high volume, with different piano voices. Need to get a midi adapter, I guess. I find the keyboard visualization not that helpful; if I’m reading the music I’m not looking up at it. So I’d rather see fingering hints in the sheet music itself, and a larger / multi-line view of the music so as to be able to localize better where I am in the piece. Still, as I’m progressing with this app I’m seeing my sight reading improve quickly, and that’s a big win!

Review .1. Flowkey honestly is okay. But would probably be better if you get premium which is also quite expensive. Without it the free songs don’t switch often enough, and when they do switch you don’t get to keep the other ones. Not only that it can mistake lower notes as higher notes or higher notes as lower notes. But also if you play too fast it remains at its slow rate and doesn’t follow what you are playing. So when you are learning a fast song it makes it more difficult even if the song is easy. Other than that if you just want to learn a single song than this app is for you! But other than that you either have to pay premium which even then I don’t think it’s worth it, Sorry.

The best, most versatile piano app, for all skill levels. If you don’t know how to play, it can start you from the beginning. You don’t have to learn to read but you can if you want to. Learn how to improvise or learn specific songs. If you know a little about playing the piano, it can help you improve. I learned a little piano years ago but not enough to sit down and “play,” and music should be all about playing around and enjoying the experience. flowkey is helping me develop left-hand accompaniment that applies to a wide range of songs. flowkey is well-designed and thought out.

Updated Review. It’s disappointing that you can’t use both the streaming lights and the wait mode at the same time on a song on the Yamaha CSP-150. That would have made this app amazing. Instead, it was disappointing. I have to keep using the Yamaha Smart Pianist app until then. Update...I got it to work now. Works with streaming lights and wait mode at same time only if the piano is not accessing the microphone. Great email tech support. The only thing that would help make this a 5 star app is if I could play the background music while playing the piano like with the Yamaha smart pianist app. The only issue with the smart pianist app, and why I’m looking at this app, is that the smart pianist app only has 50 pop songs.

Nice App. ************************ EDIT: At first I couldn’t get the app to work because I had the wrong type of cord. Make SURE you’re using a midi cord if you are plugging directly into you keyboard or piano. ************************** I’m using an older keyboard from Yamaha, but the note detection software just was that great. I’ve tried adjusting the tuning on my keyboard with another app, but it’s just not working for me. (I think my keyboard is too old to work with newer software, I can’t get it to connect when I try to hardwire it either) It’s so frustrating trying to learn how to play when you have to hit keys to and three times for the app to keep flowing. Somehow I want to see if it’ll work with another keyboard or piano if I take my iPad somewhere else. I’ll update my review after that. ************************** EDIT: Works wonderfully now with my iPad. I have the correct midi cord and all is well. Fun App. I will probably renew for a longer subscription next time. Nice work!
