Awesome app and wind meter!!!. My family and I are very active in the outdoors. I got the Vaavud wind meter a few months ago, and have used it regularly on high altitude hikes in the alps. I recently also used it at a popular local paragliding site to check wind conditions. GREAT product for outdoor activities and fun!!!

Simplicity - Works. Great tool. Love the map with shared data. Hope they can add direction, too.

Now a plastic brick. I backed the first iteration on kickstarter and then the second. At no time did they ever say we're going to completely cripple the use of this by requiring a login and an internet connection. I use this for sailing and don't always have an internet connection out on the water and I can't believe they have just bricked this for me.

This is such a good app!. Awesome app! It's easy to use after you get the meter, and it never lets me down! It's cool to no how fast to know what the wind is, and fun to show your friends and family! Awesome app, product, and company!

Where is my previous negative review?. Does App Store suppress negative reviews? I want Vaavud to refund the $50 I spent on their appliance since I can no longer use it to find wind speed. I don't have time to jack around with logging into an app when I need to know the wind speed, just so Vaavud can do social networking games. When I need to know wind speed, I'm sailing offshore out of range of the Internet - not the time to be told "you have to sign in so we can provide advanced features". I could care less about "advanced features"! I need to know the speed of the wind. I don't need access to the Internet to find that out. The Vaavud appliance is useless without the app and, at this point, without access to the Internet. What naive product manager approved that brilliant concept? I want my money back...

No electronics. This is a companion app for the vaavud wind meter. Provides basic wind speed reading etc. Works like a charm. I also noticed that if you have weendy app installed, then the two apps work together and you can share your wind reports to the community.

Having fun with wind.. Well designed. Easy to use. Just plug and play. Hold your phone into the wind and hit start. We just tried this out on the ferry back from the Sunfish Worlds in Lewes, DE. And it's great fun!

Worthless app=worthless instrument. This update makes the whole system useless. Who needs social media to measure wind? When we are out on the water there is no internet access so when we most need to or want to measure the wind we can't. We were on the boat for a week and would have liked to measure wind but couldn't - no internet. I want to return this now worthless piece of junk unless the app is quickly fixed for to measure wind without Internet access.

Social requirement?. I bought a tool to use, don't need to share data. Upgrade broke the ability to independently use hardware that was paid for. Stupid.

App crashes, product is unusable. Big disappointment, the app crashes constantly and the product is unusable. Waste of money and time, not worth 99 cents let alone 99 dollars. Developers, pull this product from the market until you fix it.

Works...as a cereal spoon for my todler. A wind meter with no electronics? Clearly. This thing reads horribly side by side with other wind meters I have. App constantly crashes and customer service is non responsive.

Nice Tool.. Useful for selecting which kite to use. Update got rid of important feature.. I've enjoyed both versions of vaavud wind meters, but am a bit disappointed in the development of the application. While the interactive map is much easier to navigate, vaavud got rid of the best feature of the app. This feature was a graph of your wind reading. Now, you can see the average speed, max speed, and direction. 2/15/2016 - Cannot use the app. Upon sign in with vaavud account, app crashes. Upon sign in with facebook, cannot exit login screen. App support button on app store is a dead link.

App ok - device is junk. I received the device from Amazon today and have tested it several times throughout the day and find the device very inaccurate and does not respond to wind changes very well. This is a day when winds have been between 5-15 mph. The cups didn't want to even rotate in the light stuff and measured 5-6 mph when I know from experience (30+ sailing years) that it was blowing at least 10 mph. And on top of the inaccuracy, it seems very cheaply made for the money... Returning product to Amazon and deleting the app.

Great Wind Meter!. I’ve been using this app and wind meter for the last few months and I have say that I love it! I’m learning how to kiteboard and it’s important to know what the wind speed is so I can pick the right sized kite for the conditions. The app is super easy to use and most of all-is very accurate. The map feature is very useful as I can see the conditions in other places right on my phone, so I can find the best place to kite before I leave home. I also love that it works with my existing iPhone so I don’t have to carry a while separate wind meter with me. All in all, the app and product are great!

I have no map at all. I like the idea and the design is pretty cool too but i have serious issues with the world map. Its showing the grid and the measurements across the globe and there's no map underneath or whatsoever. This way its pretty much useless. I keen to see it work

Works great. I think it’s great! I use it as a kitesurfer and sailor. It’s great having a device on hand that is more accurate then weather stations, as well as having access to the measurements of others is truly amazing!

Crap!. Why do I need to create account and log in now. Didn’t have to b4 don’t bother with this junk

Too few locations in the US. Not worth the time. Does not let you select a location because there are so few measuring sites. For example, this does not show the winds in Atlanta, Ga. But it does give winds at a tine lake about 70 miles away.

Works Well but Very Basic. I just purchased a Vaavud wind meter for use with my iPhone 5 to check wind speed when kite flying on the beach. It works exceedingly well… simple, high quality, and durable. Be sure and check it out if you're into any activity where knowing the wind speed would be helpful or interesting. This app works perfectly, but is very basic with only the ability to display current and mean windspeed over a brief period of time. There's no ability to save, share, or export wind speed recording sessions. It's a good start but could be so much better with a little more time and effort. Personally I wouldn't mind paying for a "pro" version offering the features I already mentioned and more.

Social????. Now I have to sign into the app to use it. Where does it say that in the version description? I don't want to join a wind community! I just want a wind meter. Why does everything have to be big data? I would not install this release again.

Mrjimbothesailingman. I don't have time to log in to social media when I need to assess my wind speed. This is only a ploy to gain more info on me. We want to USE the product...the now "worthless waste of money" product.

Junk. Got this at Christmas in a Pollyanna. The app is a horrible, constantly crashing. Really this is just a silly invention. Dollar store junk.

Great tool!. Great tool, but I would like to be able to see wind readings even without being signed into the app. Took it to the shooting range and did not have enough cellular service to get logged into the app. Would have been nice to open the app and have a manual wind reading! How they can fix this issue. I sent an email from website to Vaavud, but haven't received a reply back yet... Fingers crossed!

This app needs a major update ASAP!!. This app has major bugs and needs a big overhaul. What this app needs to do is share all collected wind speed data with the NOAA to further improve their ability to forecast the weather.

Impressive. Vaavud is extremely user friendly and the app seems to be very stable with no bugs thus far.

New style SLEIPNIR Temporary fix. Ok this is new review since 1st one I gave was 2 stars. Yes now that the app works so far it's the product I figured it could be GREAT. EVEN tho the volume kinks should have been worked out before releasing product. Vaavud did take my advice and put why it wasn't working on their web page. Thank u for that. This way you don't have people like me freeking out cause I think mine is broken. Now it works since new update and it's a fine piece of equipment. And vaavud did get back to me everytime. Thanks customer service. Now I'm Happy and will buy many many more!!

Doesn't function. My app doesn't not recognize the Sleipnir being connected, I thought maybe I needed to do an updated by I'm running the newest app and most current iOS. Emailed customer support 2 weeks ago and still haven't received a reply. Basically paid $60 for nothing. Wanted this to work so bad, Customer Service PLEASE CONTACT ME BACK!!!

Forced to create an account. I just want to use a cool wind meter. The app now makes you create an account and log on. I have no interest in being part of a wind community.

Application doesn't work without internet. This application needs to login to Facebook or be online just to start. If you are in a situation where you need this application to work but have no internet you will be out of luck.

Vaavud can go forth and multiply. I bought this to use when and where I want to get a reasonably accurate measure of local wind speed. It use to work! Plug the overpriced piece of plastic in to your iphone or ipad and open the app. Simple, effective but NOT NOW. Vaavud you “children out of wedlock" what sort of update is this? Tried using it for the first time this season. I NEEDED it to measure some serious wind on the Chesapeak this evening but the app wants an internet connection and you to login to the app to share the data over a social network. YES YOU HAVE TO LOGIN TO THE APP TO “expletive-ing" USE IT….well “expletive…begins with “f” sounds like duck" you Vaavud….you pile of excrement. This use to work….FIX IT….you “fill in your own term of abuse"

Not accurate.. Wind was blowing 20+ and I was getting a 12 knot reading. Junk

Waste of time/$$. Never got this turkey to take more than one reading without having to reload app. Now useless. One star I can't leave zero.

A good start. This app supports the device and simple and easy to use. In this form it does all you would expect of a wind meter but considering it is smart phone app it really needs to be extended. How about an historical log of my readings. Allow me to filter the results on the map to see just the latest or all readings from yesterday. How about incorporating the compass so I can record direction and strength. I look forward to the future development.

This version 1.7.1 is not working on iphone 5. Previous 1.6 was working fine. I have talked to the developer and a fix will come soon in v1.8.1.

Don't Upgrade!. The previous version was much better. The graph now is poor and scaled too large, there is less information displayed on the reading screen and switching units is harder. GUI has been changed, don't like this update at all!
