Apple Sports Comments & Reviews 2026
Apple Flair, lacking features. As a typical Cishet white man I love sports. I keep track of my chosen teams religiously, and I will defend them to the death. Naturally, when I saw this app on my page I immediately downloaded it. The premise was illustrious: a single place to keep track of all my teams. I opened the app and found my favorite Hockey and Baseball teams already set. Alas, crushing disappointment ensued. The NBA, the NHL, MLS, The Premiere League, MLB. All American,* all the best leagues in their sport. Yet one of the biggest names is missing. Where, oh Apple gods on high, where is the NFL? The National Football League is the single biggest sport in America. Yet still there is no way to track or watch her games in Apple’s apps. Should the NFL be added to this app’s repertoire of leagues, then this app will be 5 stars. Until then, i must leave it with only 3.
Odd … Standings 🤷♂️ … no NFL. Great to have a sports app that just gives scores and game information, without larding it with ads and videos, which ruin most sports apps. But the design of this app is so very odd. You have to pick your leagues rather than there being a menu and you just tap a league and see what happened that day. Then, the scores from the leagues that you have selected are jumbled together. And where do you intuitively find league standings? It’s as though a software engineer who was not a sports fan designed the app: in someways clever, and aesthetically pleasing, but not all that useful to a sports fan who wants to browse and see scores organized by league. Thus, I hardly ever use this app. And course, the big dog, the NFL, is not included for reasons we can only imagine — fees. Finally, the betting odds are ugly and should be off by default until toggled on.
“Yesterday” Tab Need Work. This is a good bare bones sports scores app which is something the iPhone is lacking. All the other options out there are bogged down with stuff that’s not scores and basic stats. I don’t need a bunch of sports news, commentary, endless highlights, etc. in my sports app. I just want scores and this app is designed exactly for that. The one big problem is the “Yesterday” tab. It’s too literal as it only shows the results of games that actually occurred one day prior. This is really useless for NFL and college football in particular, where almost all the games are played on Saturday (CFB) or Sunday (NFL). If, for example, you go to the “yesterday” tab on a Wednesday it’ll likely be empty. That’s useless! Ideally the “Yesterday” tab would be reworked into a “Previous” or “Recent” tab which would show the most recent results for a given team / leave regardless of exactly how recent they were. Also as of 8/21 it appears that CFB lacks standings. Hopefully that changes once the season starts later this week (Go Noles!).
Add International Soccer and Cup competitions. Great app. Give me just the scores and basic information without ads and a bunch of opinion pieces dressed up as “news”. I can’t believe how many reviewers are completely missing the point with this app. It’s not trying to compete with ESPN but rather offer basic in-game scores and info without all the other distractions. If you want more than scores use a different app. I get that Apple will add more sports as those league begin play but where’s the international soccer and cup competitions? We’re heading into an international break from club soccer and we’ve got nothing. Same thing for Champions league and Europa league. Not to mention CONCACAF Nations league and the Copa - both completions the US is playing in. Given how basic the app is, I can’t imagine it’s that hard or resource intensive to add new sports and competitions.
Terrible sports app. They brag about the updated live game scores, etc etc. Guess what? All other apps do that as well. How about live game score notifications? If Apple developers don't know what that is, it's anytime your favorite team scores, you'll get a notification on your phone, like all the other sport apps out there. It's pretty simple, get it done. Latest update show score notifications, but it also shows every single pitch of every at-bat. WHO CARES!! Just give live game score notifications. Why is this so hard for you idiot programmers & developers? I got notified for every single pitch thrown to Gleybor Torres. Who thought this is what people want? Live game score notifications for your favorite teams. Baseball, every run scored, football, every touchdown & field goal, hockey, every time a goal is scored.
This app is what I was hoping for from Apple.. If there’s one thing that I love about about Apple, is they care about aesthetics. I was looking forward to Apple creating their very own sports app. I knew it would be aesthetically pleasing with minimal clutter (which I’m a sucker for). This is like the beginning stages of the “Maps” app. It doesn’t quite hit the mark right off the bat, but it’s a start. There is a ton more that needs to be improved, as when the app is open some of my other apps crash; no live playback; no NFL/College football or baseball (yet) which is why I have it only at 3 stars. Another reviewer mentioned it, but it’s a great start to the app, and has endless possibilities and can’t wait to ditch ESPN’s cluttered app and this be my main domain.
Has potential but is lacking in information. Using current NCAA Men’s Basketball, for my example, all it shows is scores. No info as to ranking (USA, AP, Coaches, power rating), the conference the team is in, conference tourney match-ups, no bracketology, no conference power rating, no player roster & player status (active, injured, suspended, arrested, dismissed), home vs. away win-loss, line chart showing team ranking across the season (was team ranked #1 at start of season and across time dropped to #15?). For supposedly living in the age of information, all this shows is scores (and for some reason the betting line). This product comes real close to what used to be referred to as shovelware: just throw something out there to make it look like we’re working hard when we’re just collecting a paycheck and benefits. And I don’t really blame the grunts but some managers and their bosses heads should get chopped PUBLICLY as a warning to other managerial types just sliding by. Steve Jobs would be ashamed (and Tim Cook should be) that this was put out by Apple.
Decent Start - Lot of potential. I love the idea of a built in, minimalistic sports app that isn’t loaded with ads and trackers like most of the major sports apps are. The layout is simple and the design is smooth. The availability of stats and play by pay provides a nice balance of detail without sacrificing too much minimalism. There are really a couple of things that are holding me back from using it more. The first is better integration with other features Apple apps already offer. I should be able to start a live activity directly from the Sports app rather than going to find the game in the TV app. I should also not have to wait until the game actually starts to link to the game page in the TV app - if I want to place a game in Up Next so that I don’t forget to tune in, the Sports app doesn’t help me at all. Finally, it would be nice if player pages were viewable by clicking on a player’s name in the box score/stats tab. Even if all this did would bring up the information that shows when you search a player in Siri, it would still provide a more direct way to view more info about a player.
This CANNOT be an Apple/iOS product … it’s pure garbage!. There’s no seamless integration with other apple/iOS that one comes to expect from apple devices & apps. There are NO box scores. There’s no way to edit or customize the feed; other than all or nothing. There’s no “ticker”, no stats, no injury report(s), no league feed (used by commissioners to notify of league news, penalties or suspensions). There’s no lineup information or late scratch information. There is ONLY .. yesterday/today/tomorrow with final scores & times. That’s it. It’s safe to say, THIS IS THE WORST PRODUCT APPLE HAS EVER CREATED. Do yourself a favor .. if you want sports scores and if you want them done correctly (and have the patience for a mouse that peddles gambling information to children like heroin to junkies) .. download the “ESPN” app. (Which you’ll delete just as fast due to their extreme gambling grifts).
Off to a Good Start — Needs Improvements. It’s been quite a while since I’ve downloaded this app. But it really needs is to spice things up a bit, but will this affect on having the same concept as adding Apple News to this app, for example, the Stocks app. Have a quick access to what’s going on with the overall results of the games. However, there are quite minimum amount of leagues and sports to pick from to track real time scores and stats. I don’t see any other international leagues nor any sports to track. Hopefully, in the coming updates, we expect more sports, leagues and even teams from all over the world. Also one more thing, this app must be compatible with iPad, because the UI isn’t what I’ve expected, it doesn’t take the whole screen, it’s more of your average iPhone display.
This app could be perfect !!. As I see it’s an apple app , this is THE reason to make this review. This app has ,a very pleasant interface for sure and great potential too ..! The first time I installed it I was truly amazed and excited to use it , however what I was searching for in particular … I didn’t find it . I was After an international app that can relate most of the leagues out there, better than other app like sofa score ,also with an amazing speed and precision . I was totally disappointed when I found that it has only few leagues and details about the matches . ! As it is a little bit new I can say , I think apple can work to make a wonderful app for sport 🏀 ⚽️ and keep it free please !!!!!!!!! We know apple can pull off this !
Add home screen widgets and standings section along with schedules and broadcast info. This app is really great and the fact that now there is love activities for all sports is fantastic. I would like to see a home screen widget to see past scores of favorite teams at a glance. Also a section in the app that shows the standings easily and a playoff outlook for all sports and not just by division. Similar to how the sports app does it where it shows division and conference. Along with those things, full season schedules for teams would be marvelous along with broadcast info where i can watch games for each game. Thank you!
Missing a lot & It could be better!. NO Champions League, Europa League, Conference league , World Cup, World Cup qualifications and much more not gonna name all I believe the message has been received. For the development team need to look at FotMob app that I have been using for so many years and make apple sport app same idea and better. Add widgets and Dynamic Island support, live notifications for favorites team scores. If I’m gonna continue name all the things it needs I won’t be done writing for few hours It just need a lot of things to be added. But good start. Thanks!
Decent start, but needs some refining and extra features. I like the simple approach to the app, much less congested feeling than ESPN and other sports apps. You don’t have to scroll by half a dozen stories you don’t care about to see the scores. However, I would like to see some basic features added. The main thing I’d like to see is a tab to look at standings in each league without having to click into a game and then scrolling to the bottom of that score - it’s a little counterintuitive to hide the standings there. I’d also like to see it expanded so you can view overall standings and wild card standings for sports that use that system. The Apple TV feature could be slightly improved as well by just including all the stations that a game is on. I don’t have Sling, but could watch the game on my RSN however when you open the tab the only option shown for a particular game is Sling. If I also see the station listed I have others ways to watch the game that I’d miss out on if I just closed it after realizing I don’t have Sling. Sorting upcoming by sport would be helpful as well instead of just sorting by start time.
Lots of Issues with NFL Scores. App has a number of issues with NFL scores. (1) the drive charts are missing whole drives, including scoring drives. (2) the “yesterday, today, upcoming” layout of the app may work for baseball but doesn’t work the NFL. NFL games are by Week. Even if a game was played Thursday night its score is still relevant on Sunday as it’s the same week. The fact that you can’t look back on Sunday/Monday to see what happened earlier in the same week (in the case of Week 1, two games, one from Thursday and one from Friday) is a problem. (3) lack of timeouts. For a real-time score app, in football you MUST have timeouts. Knowing if a team has timeouts completely changes the last 10 minutes of each half.
Clean and solid. Vey nice and clean interface. Lots of good info such as records, spread, ranks, and others. If you click to open a particular entry you get more info on betting odds, conference records and standings, and physical game location. One thing I’d like to request is the addition of the TV network on each game entry. It would be great to scroll through a list of games and see quickly which networks they are on. I haven’t used this to track of a live game yet, but I’ll have plenty of opportunities for that this week with March Madness starting. If the scores keep up and are accurate, I’d say I’ve found a new favorite Sports app!
Please consider adding UEFA🇪🇺Champions⚽️League. Hi Apple Sports staff👋 It would be nice to have more 🇪🇺European⚽️Leagues🏆 Such as: UEFA-Champions🏆League, UEFA-Europa🏆League, UEFA-Conference🏆League, UEFA Super🏆Cup & UEFA Nations🏆League⚽️ Maybe in the near future you guys could also add all of the Major European National Cups, such as: 🇬🇧FA CUP & EFL CUP, 🇪🇸COPA DEL REY & SUPERCOPA, 🇮🇹COPPA ITALIA, 🇫🇷COUPE DE FRANCE & COUPE LA LIGUE, 🇩🇪DFB POKAL✅ and perhaps even FIFA WORLD🌎CUP since the next one is going to be played in the US 🇺🇸 as well💡Bonus: FIFA CLUB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP🔥✌️😎 Now, about the iOS app:📍FIX Soccer Match Lineup, it needs the Soccer Field Graphic with the players on their positions.📍ADD Players Profiles(with Players photo).📍ADD Teams Profiles.📍ADD Leagues Profiles.📍FIX the -Standing- section(Its too JAMED), take out the Clubs name and leave just the Clubs Badges icons✅ 📍ADD UFC.📍ADD F1. Please consider adding Main WIDGETS and Todays view Widgets, like the app SOFASCORE🔍📝🍎have😉
Needs Work. Have had it since the initial announcement early this year. Has potential but lacking in a lot of areas. Notifications are probably the main issue, you always have to open the app to keep up with the games rather than getting notifications from the sports app you get them from the Apple TV app. It’s super weird and never useful notifications rather “hey go watch the 3rd quarter of blank game.” Would like to see customizable and concise options for notifications for each team, and only from the sports app not Apple TV because then you subscribe to Apple tv+ notifications. Lots of work and the live activities don’t always trigger so some issues there as well. And now with IOS 18 they will be lower the refresh rate of the live activities down to once every 15 seconds, major nerf there.
Good Start. In many ways this is a good start for a sports app., but certainly still bare bones. Once you have it set up it provides simple lists of your teams match dates and times. It does however need improvements. Notifications in the Notification Center would be great. A dedicated iPad app would also be good. Other native Apple apps also have corresponding dedicated iPad apps. It would be nice if the Sports app did as well. Live activities is a must. Building out the teams and leagues could be easier. It’s a little counterintuitive. Some of the leagues and teams are not available. I do not know why this is. I look forward to future improvements.
Great App needs a little more refining. I like everything about it and constantly getting updated. I believe that all request people have for this app with most likely be answered through updates. With that said I would like to ability to go back and look at past games besides just last weeks. I’m not sure if you can do it but it needs to be more accessible and easier to find. Like previous weeks, scores and stats. Also I’d like to be able to follow individual players so I can stay up to date on there stats and see there prop bet odds somewhere on the app. Also allow for widgets!
Plenty of opportunity for improvement. The app is well built as expected coming directly from Apple. The functionality is good overall. A gripe is that you have no idea what the icon button in the top right corner of a card does. Only after a while of using it did I realize that this lets you add it to your Lock Screen as a live activity. I think some improvement to the UX is needed there. Additionally, I’d like to see the inclusion of televised details, and which network(s) is/are broadcasting it. Lastly, I’d like to see the addition of Brasileirão, as information on this league is already difficult to come by and it would be a pretty easy way for Apple to snatch up what would likely be a monopoly on that market outside of South America. Thanks for building a great app, but please don’t forget about it!
It’s….fine.. I love that the app is very stripped down and basic. It has great aesthetics. But it’s arrangements seem haphazard, and I wish I could have some control of it. Like, basically at this point in the year, I’m only following college basketball, and I follow a lot if leagues(rather than just a couple of teams. I wish I could group these games by league. Like all Big 10 games grouped, all SEC games grouped, etc. And have those groups collapsible. I understand that the default is that the games are arranged by start time(which would great for the post-season), but in the regular season games usually start in blocks, and this makes the arrangement something that users have to search and scroll through. Additionally, when looking at the box scores. Advanced stats like ‘Player +/-‘ are fine, but it’s probably only worthwhile for fantasy basketball fans(and fantasy college basketball is pretty rare). Instead, tracking ‘Personal Fouls’ would be better and more informative.
It’s a good start…. For Apple to finally release a dedicated app for all that’s sports is probably the best thing coming in the future for just how much they can do with this but.. as this is the beginning I’m not expecting for them to go crazy feature packed but there a bunch of missing leagues including NFL which is surprising why? And like this is very very barebones which could be a good thing in a sense but you don’t have to give up on all the features for simplicity. P.S if your going to be growing in leagues Apple I’m letting you know now if you could build with the esports scene it would be big there’s no dedicated app for esports and if they do have an app it’s only limited to one or two esports Apple could join all esports and make a big impact in the space
Good start, needs more. Would love to see some key sports features in this app. 1) Network availability. Not just “Open in TV.” Most stats providers include network information, that should definitely be included on the game details page. 2) Records on Home Screen. While you can see team records in the game details, I’d love to see records displayed on the main screen so I don’t have to tap into each game just to see a team record. 3) Player details. While game stats offer player specific stats, I’d love to be able to tap on a players name and get season stats, career stats, draft info, awards, etc. 4) Game news. With the deep integration with News, TV, etc., the Sports app should offer users a “News” tab in each game/league to see news related to that game. Did someone get injured? Highlight that from various sources directly in the game details. Overall, making this Sports app a one-stop-shop would greatly improve the experience. Since this is a native, Apple app, I shouldn’t have to bounce between TV, News, Sports and Safari for game information. Make it all available here.
No Premier League/Women’s Football League options. The app idea is great, but the execution is poor. You can pick your teams / leagues you want to follow. I chose to follow the Premier League and my supporting team, yet I’m unable to see past or upcoming matches for my supporting team or the Premier League teams. The option is there to select the Premier League and subsequent specific team, yet no data inputted to actually see the matches played or upcoming matches. ALSO, this app doesn’t support Barclays WSL which is the women’s equivalent of the Premier League. Women’s football is on the up and is watched globally, yet there’s not even an option to select this league? Only men’s football is able to be selected. This app has a great idea, just poor execution. I hope they’ll implement these necessary updates and make the effort to input the data for matches. If that were to happen, this would be a 5 star app easily. Sadly, it’s one that’s getting removed from my phone at this time due to reasons stated above.
Add in what network the game is being broadcast on, and add the schedules for each sport. This is an excellent app, free from the intrusive ads seen on ESPN’s app. It’s simple, straight forward, and allows the users to select which sports, leagues (if applicable), and teams they want to follow for regular score updates. For this to be a successful app and to further enhance the user experience, Apple should consider adding the following two features: 1. Broadcast information The ability to know what network the game is being broadcast on would allow users to know if they can watch the game in their area while keeping track of other scores of happening simultaneously. 2. Full season schedules Currently, this app only shows the upcoming games for the current week and not the entire schedule for that sport. It would be very beneficial to to provide the user the ability to view the entire schedule for each sport’s current and upcoming season (if upcoming season is available). For example, ESPN’s app offers a week-by-week breakdown of the college football schedule with for the entire season, allowing users to see who’s playing in any given week. Having access to the full schedule would definitely increase the amount of users wanting to use this app.
In the early adopter stage. The app in its current form shows a lot of promise. Sleek, modern, simple fits right into the Apple brand seamlessly. Please devs, as soon as possible though, can we get LOCKscreen widget support for select games. The synergy with Apple Watch is great out the box. It just leaves more to be desired which is a great thing, the app is young. I just feel like the next impactful low hanging fruit would be that lock screen support the Apple way. Great job so far devs, for users don't except too much at this time and you'll be okay to possibly happy with the results. This isn't replacing your ESPN app on day one though. Bluntly.
Leaves A LOT to be desired. This app is extremely basic and fills a purpose but it would be so much better with a few simple options. 1) I wish I could separate the “My Leagues” list so the games are grouped by sport or league. If you follow a lot of leagues, it’s difficult to find a specific game in a list of dozens. 2) I wish the app would show what TV channel a game is playing on. The only option you have is to “Open in Apple TV”. Otherwise, I have to use another app or search online to know where I can find the game. I might keep it since it only takes up a little storage space, but what’s the point of having this app if I have to use another app anyway? Make some changes, Apple.
Great Potential, But Missing Key Features. Apple Sports is a solid app with a sleek design and easy navigation. It’s great for tracking scores and updates for popular sports like football and basketball. However, I’m extremely disappointed by the lack of support for other sports and Live Activities. NASCAR, IndyCar, F1, and the Olympics are major events that deserve coverage in this app. Moreover, it’s quite frustrating that when watching a basketball game, you can’t see the number of fouls each player has. This is a crucial detail that should be readily available. Apple, please fix these issues. Expand your sports coverage and add these essential features. Without these improvements, I might hesitate to recommend this app to others. There’s so much potential here, but it needs to be fully realized.
Live sports notifications doesn’t take into account the 30 second TV delay. There is a MAJOR ISSUE with Apple’s live sports notifications and this has been happening before they created the Apple sports app. Apple does not take into consideration that even though we are watching live TV, there is a solid 30 second delay between what is actually happening in the stadium and what we as viewers are seeing at home. I have to turn the notifications off because I will get notified about a touchdown 30 to 35 seconds before it happens on my TV. Absolutely blows my mind that this issue hasn’t been resolved as this has been going on for over a year. Same for the NBA, getting home run notifications for baseball before it actually happens on TV. Quite disappointing.
So close. The look and feel of this app is great. Functionality has improved since first released and I can now more easily check on my favorite teams and league scores. But it is still lacking a couple of key things. First and most important is the app needs to show what network the team’s current game is being broadcast on. Second I want to be able to click into a team and see their detailed record of wins and losses so far this season as well as their scheduled games for the remainder of the season. Third I would like to be able to click into a team and see their detailed record current roster. Add these things and I would give the app 5 stars and would make this my go to app over the very annoying and glitchy ESPN app.
It’s an Ok app it’s just lacking in some areas. I’ve been using this app everyday to regularly keep up with my favorite teams and leagues. Initially I realized that there was leagues missing from the app. For instance at the time I started using it I was unable to follow teams or games from the NFL. Now I can follow the NFL but other leagues and associations are still missing notably the UEFA champions league or UFC and MMA. With the teams and info that is available , the app works really well in organizing it in a modern interface allowing to choose to have the home page be organized by the teams or leagues you follow. I do wish that the upcoming games tab is easier to see your teams schedule. If you follow more than one team and you attempt to look at their upcoming schedule it will stack the games kind of like how they stack notifications in notifications center. If you don’t click on the team you wouldn’t realize that your other team necessarily played that day. The app displays odds for betting and what not but they don’t actually show what networks or apps to go to to watch these games . You would have to go to the Apple TV app to then see what networks are hosting the game. I also would like to see them just incorporated into the sports app directly.
Simple that works!. This app has become one of my go-to sports apps due to its simplicity and speed. Since the app only shows scores without videos, articles and advanced metrics and statistics beyond high level box scores, it always opens quick. I only have feedback on two things: one, is being able to swipe left and right to the yesterday and upcoming views. The other is being able to queue up live activities within, say, an hour of the game starting? I absolutely love how they auto-launch for your favorite teams and their design on iPhone and Apple Watch. Actually one more thing, for baseball live activities, please make the bases icon bigger since time very small to identify which bases are occupied when looking from a short distance.
Missing a few things. 1. The app doesn’t tell you where you can watch the games without launching Apple TV, which sometimes is connected to an app I can watch it on but sometimes not. The ESPN app for example tells you where the game is streaming without even having to select the game, great feature. 2. In order to see league standings you have to select a game then scroll down past the details of that specific game. Doesn’t make sense. It’s nice to see the standings so easily when you’ve already selected a game but it’s weird that there is no other way to view league standings. Otherwise a pretty smooth app, interface is very on brand with Apple
Barely adequate. It’s hard to believe this app is made by the same company that made the platform, because it barely uses any modern features of iOS. Half of the features you would want from this app are already in the Apple TV app, leaving this one with only basic functionality that is only useful for seeing if your team is playing either today or within the next 7 days exactly. You want a Live Activity showing the game on your Lock Screen? Wrong app, that’s in TV. Which is always fun when I’m watching the game on my iPad and want to see the stats on my phone, so I tap the Live Activity assuming it’ll go to the Sports app since it’s showing Sports but now I’m watching the game on both devices. Why can’t I put a widget on my Home Screen showing upcoming games? That’s a feature Apple themselves added to iOS, but I guess they decided it’s not worth having. If you really care about following your favorite team, there are much better apps out there to do that. You can get as much out of this app as Apple apparently put in, and you can tell they didn’t put much in. Just wanted to get something out the door.
This has lots of potential.. Apple Sports is pretty darn good. Right around the time the NBA Playoffs kicked in this became my goto app for keeping up with games. It’s certainly a better experience than ad-ridden alternatives. Everything is uncluttered and to the point. There is obviously room for improvement though. For one, there are times when the “upcoming” section is fairly inaccurate. For example, the NBA semi-finals are just about to start but it’s showing wins and losses for a series that hasn’t even started as 4-2, instead of 0-0, as if already complete. Or it will show game dates or matches that are inaccurate. Hopefully these issues are just growing pangs. Also, while this isn’t really a criticism but rather a wish. I’d like to see deeper team and player stats. Game stats are great, that’s what we’re here for, but it seems like the next logical step would be to provide stats for at least the season for individual players and teams. Right now you can see game stats, play-by-plays and even betting odds but we can’t click a player’s name in the “Box Scores” to see how this game compares to their season averages or game to game? Or even a team’s season stats? Seems odd to have to leave the app to go find that info elsewhere. Early days though.
**Apple’s Sports Tracking App Lacks Expected Depth and Functionality**. As a longtime Apple user, I was excited to see the launch of their own sports tracking app. However, I was left disappointed by the app’s lack of depth and features. While it provides general game stats, it falls short of offering in-depth player and team data that users expect from similar apps, like Yahoo Sports. The absence of features such as detailed player bios and comprehensive team info makes the app feel unfinished and unrefined—something that’s uncharacteristic of Apple. To truly compete in the sports tracking space, I’d suggest Apple incorporate these essential elements. Adding more comprehensive player/team information would not only improve the app’s functionality but also help draw users away from other platforms. I believe Apple will eventually catch up, but for now, this release feels rushed and underwhelming compared to the high standards typically associated with the brand.
Why?. I rarely if ever write a review but this app seems like nothing but an engagement grab. Apple debuts a new sports app, of course I’ll check it out! Although it offers no value add whatsoever. Maybe if you’re into the sports they have contacts with with the MLS it would, but for the others, it’s just basic box scores and annoying alerts you probably already get from ESPN. ESPN isn’t perfect but at least they have news articles and post game features. This seems like purely an effort to get data on users, and is not what I expect from a Apple as a company. Some half-baked at best app with no purpose to get data. I deleted it and then am still stuck with the alerts. So have to redownload and delete my teams from it to stop it. How did a room full of people decide this was worth it? Wild.
Great start, missing 4 key things in my opinion…. Apple Sports is off to a great start as a new app, delivering a sleek design and easy navigation. However, there are a few features that would elevate the experience. First, device compatibility is limited to the iPhone. Expanding it to the iPad would provide an opportunity for a more immersive visual and metric experience. Additionally, it would be great to see an integrated feature showing where to watch or listen to the game, and a full schedule for each team would be a valuable addition for avid sports fans. Finally, including UFC (MMA) events and the ability to follow fighters for updates would be the cherry on top! Overall, it's a solid beginning, and with these added features, it could quickly become a go-to sports app.
Promising app. This app is off to a good start but has some issues. First, no iPad UI at launch? That seems very un-Apple. Works great on the iPhone though. One major issue is that I’ve added a few MLS teams to my favorite teams and the upcoming games for them this weekend aren’t showing. That’s a pretty big miss for its key value proposition and surprising given that MLS Season Pass is on Apple TV+ (and I’m a subscriber). It also would be great to see what channel/service games can be watched on, like Google does, with Apple TV app integration. Better yet, if it can also show what SiriusXM or local radio station the game can be found on that would be awesome.
Great Start. This app is simple and that’s the beauty of it. I don’t have to hunt for my scores. 2 things would make it better: A) Be able to see your favorited teams upcoming schedule instead of just the current week/matchup, B) Score notifications. if they are already on there I’m not getting them, and the only notifications I saw were for betting odds. I’m always on the go and can’t watch most of the time but I still like to keep up. If Apple News can update me a thousand times about a singular event from different sources, they can push out a score. With that said keep it simple.
Getting better….but still needs improvement. Last year’s version of this app was missing many important features and the formatting was awful. This year has seen improvements, but I would still like to be able to drill down into team specifics, player stats, roster, etc.—like “the Score” app, but without the huge performance and privacy hits. At the very least, at the bottom of the page for upcoming games, please please PLEASE list the TV network that will be carrying the game. Thanks for the ongoing efforts with this app! Also: I would like to see a list of all the college games being played on one screen, rather than needing to select the conferences individually.
Looks nice, but NCAA basketball is very incomplete. The app looks great but severely lacking in information. I’m sure more will be added down the road leading up to iOS 18, but right now it seems more geared towards casual fans only interested in seeing what games are in progress and upcoming matchups. Missing: team schedules and season results by game. Would be made even better by: adding historical schedules for each team by year, or even an option to see a series history between the two teams. Also missing: AP top 25 rankings next to the teams in the scores view, it’s harder to tell what the high impact games are for the day unless you’re a hardcore fan who just happens to know the info off-hand. Would be made even better by: allowing us to change the visibility of these rankings in the scores view, for example, a toggle that allows us to change between the AP Top 25 to something like the NET ranking (or even Kenpom!) — too many teams just barely outside the Top 25 lose out on recognition just because they don’t place within the top 25 out of 300+ Div 1 teams.
Great but needs some things. This app is great to keep up with your favorite teams and players. The only things that make this app hard to like is the absence of teams there isn’t collage hockey. Two things I would like to see added to this app are for you to be able to select a game to have live scores box on the side of your screen so no matter what app you are in you can have the scores there, like on Disney Plus when you are watching a show and leave the app you just have it playing in small screen on the side. I would also like to have a widget that show live scores of a stared team when the are playing.
Improved but still lacking. Last year I had nothing to do with this app because it was missing football, which is what I wanted it for. Apple has now added both NFL and college football and I really like it. It looks good, info during games is up to date, and stats and play-by-play make checking into a game easy and “watchable” if for some reason I can’t actually watch live video (such as it not playing locally or I’m busy with something else). The reason I’m only giving three stars though is it is missing features that really should be added by now. There is no Apple Watch app for quick check in or tracking. There is no widget for either Home Screen or Lock Screen. It also doesn’t provide live updates in the “island” on iPhone 15. These are features that have been added by Chick-fil-A so I think Apple can add them too. The iPad can be found on the iPad, but it is exactly like the iPhone app and doesn’t take advantage of the increased screen space like ESPN’s app does. I hope to see improvements but until then this will be more of a nice to have app rather than an important one.
So close to amazing, but one massive missing feature. This app is the best app for the features that it has (current scores, live tracking, yesterday’s scores, upcoming games). Extremely elegant and simple to use. No adds constantly in your face. However, there is one basic feature missing that forces to me to use ESPN: Historical scores/stats prior to “yesterday” are not available. If it’s Wednesday and you want to see previous scores from the NFL, you have to use another app. There are other feature (like adding TV provider for games, more leagues) that could also improve it, but if historical scores/stats were available, I think this would immediately become the best sports app available for scores/stats/tracking.
Good start, excited to see it progress. The app overall is a great start. Fresh, clean UI, smooth movement, and stats galore. There are a bunch of features missing, but other than that, solid. First off, life activities. It would be amazing if we could follow any game within the app to show as a live activity. To increase the UX of the app, I would like to see the ability to swipe between “Yesterday,” “Today,” and “Upcoming” on the main screen for a sports league. It would be much easier to navigate, removing the need for excessive tapping. I would assume that NFL is coming soon, but I would also like to see stats for that, as well as NFL for live activities. Another feature that would be cool to see is possibly a little box on the game page that says “Ways to watch” or something, possibly then expanding full screen into a list of radio channels as well as TV channels that you can watch the game with. Finally, the last thing I would love to see would be a widget for the app. That widget would be great to use for standby mode, etc!! For me, at the time, this feels somewhat bare bones compared to the competition, but I’m curious to see how the app develops, & I will definitely keep it installed :)
Some things are missing. Great app so far Soccer related- I would add a better starting XI for soccer because the one that is on now is too simple(I would like to see who’s on the pitch and what position and who’s on the bench). Champions league, Europa league and national cups are not yet available which I hope they will when they start. I think during the match and after the match highlights and would make the app even better with stats like man of the match, who had the most touches or assists. I would like the opportunity to click on my team and check when the next game is and not only in the next seven days. It would be great if I could just go on a certain match day and save it so that a reminder gets created on that day. Eventually with more upgrades I expect to see player stats from when the season started up to the day ( not only for soccer but also nba and whatnot) UFC AND MMA would add a lot to the app The app is really really good but it could be way more if some of these thing get fixed.
Needs More Soccer Love. I love the app and use it frequently for my MBA team. As for soccer it is very limited on competitions and I cannot rely on this app for that purpose. As more competitions are added such as UEFA Champions League and others I will be using this app more frequently. Hope this review makes it to the app developers behind the app so that I can enjoy it more often, thank you. Of course star rating will change once those changes take place. Thank you so much for the updates and adding much requested soccer content. International soccer would a great addition as well, but be certain that I am enjoying the app so far.
Good clean app missing content. Apple sports is clean, easy to use, easy on the eyes, and is visually and mechanically preferable to checking scores on ESPN or sleeper. But even upon first opening the app I immediately spotted some red flags. The main issue with Apple Sports is a lack of content. There is very little information relayed through the app–it’s truly just an app for checking scores. By comparison, the ESPN app gives you the broadcast, advanced play-by-play, highlights, etc. The most glaring issue with Apple Sports is a sore lack of support for different sports. Apple Sports seems very centered around checking the score in a traditional team sports environment. There isn’t even an option to view upcoming boxing or mma matches! Let alone stats, play-by-play and highlights found on the ESPN app. There doesn’t seem to be any support for other individual sports such as golf or tennis, either. Searching for “PGA Tour” in the leagues screen summons a few college basketball options to avoid a blank return. I don’t think I can see myself regularly using a sports app that doesn’t support some of the largest sports organizations in the world. I do enjoy the UX of Apple Sports. If they can fill out the app with content it will become my go-to sports app. That being said, I simply can’t give an app more than 2 stars if it is missing huge chunks of content considered fundamental to the experience.

NEEDS AUSTRALIAN SPORTS. Apple I’ve downloaded the app, but if you want a high use of the app from Australia, then AFL, NRL, Rugby Union, Cricket, A League, V8 Supercars and horse racing need to be included.
a league. weird how aleague is on apple news but not on apple sports
Useless for anyone outside of USA. This app completely lacks Cricket, Rugby or AFL. Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world. If you’re gonna make an app for world wide use actually include sports people actually watch around the world.
Good app. Very smooth and nice layout for the World Cup
Too us centric. Great features but too us centric
Hello Australia. Hello Australia here is our own sports app which we have worked on for 2 years. Now available in Australia minus any Australian sports. You are welcome!
Needs more sports. Will continue to use other sports apps until the sports I’m interested in are shown in the app
Lacking Australian Leaguslea. Excellent all in one easy interface. Shame there are no Aussie sports at the moment. Would be great to see AFL, NRL, A-League, cricket, etc. added for an even better experience!
World Cup. I get to se the World Cup scores anywhere at anytime
Limited Availability in Australia. I love the interface of this app and I have recently been using it to follow the World Cup soccer scores. However, I am also a massive fan of AFL, NRL and Cricket. I would be super thankful if you were able to add support for these sports. Thank you 😃
Smooth and Fluid, needs more sport!. Give us cricket, give us AFL, NRL and Union!!!
Arrives in Australia without Australian sports. No NRL, no cricket, no rugby, no AFL, app looks nice but is essentially useless for 99% of Australians.
More sports and leagues please. Nice app, clean interface but needs more sports and leagues from around the world. Hopefully this becomes a good replacement for the bloated individual sports apps.
Great to have but local sports needed. As others have said great to have Apple sports finally in Australia but to come without any local Australian sport is indeed baffling This is indeed un-Apple like releasing software like this? without updating that software with local content. As this is the first edition of the software I’m willing to give it the benefit of that at this time Hopefully future updates will include local Australian sports like NRL, AFL Cricket, Netball and other local content
I used to fly…. Excellent ! App is really good , please add Euroleague basketball !!!!
Really good but needs improvement. This needs some Improvement
Where’s the AFL?. Needs AFL (Australian Football League), the largest football code in Australia. Appreciate releasing the app in Australia. However, without the AFL, there is little point in using it. Also, where is Cricket, NRL and Rugby?
Needs more. So it’s finally arrived in Australia! But where are the NRL and AFL and CRICKET and other Australian sports?! Also another idea to add is “Weather” just a subtle touch to the home page but it would be nice to see what the weather is like on the day at the place of stadium! Also when an event is “postponed” it should say “why it was postponed ”not just “postponed” honestly thought it’s a great app and I’ve been waiting for this to arrive in Aus but it’s just needs more!
No AFL. Would be great if Apple could get the rights to provide AFL scores now the App is available in Australia.
Good Start. Nice and clean interface. It needs more international leagues and sports, hopefully it gets better soon as other apps have lots of bloatware features
Good for USA sports focus. Pity Australia were late to receive and yet no Aussie sports listed
No AFL or NRL. No AFL or NRL
Decent but needs more. Super simple interface and great integration with iOS features to make it rare to even need to open the app itself. Good selection of sports and teams if you are European or American. Needs a major Australian sport update though. Zero Australian leagues. Needs AFL, NRL at a minimum. Also needs Cricket especially BBL and IPL. Until it has this it won’t get above a ‘Meh’ rating for me. What can push it into a ‘Yeh’ rating for me (on top of more sport and leagues) is the ability to choose to follow individuals in non team sport, like following Sinner in the tennis; or Australians in the tennis; or AMR in F1; or Norris in F1. Also, a bit weird why tennis is split into Men’s and Women’s. Why can’t I just follow Tennis and choose from there? It’s the same sport!
Terrible. Reminds me of Apple Maps launching in a country without any data. Completely useless in Australia and shows Apples complete lack of care towards anyone living outside of a major city in America.
Love it…but…. …would love it even more if it had cycling!
Pointless. Genuinely don’t understand the point of this app. Doesn’t do anything better than other dedicated free sports apps (eg., for tennis), and has an arguably more confusing UI. No Australian content for an Australian launch? Wut? Maybe I’ll download again if that changes but can’t see the point of this app.
Missing Australian Sport. Just released to Australia, but we need AFL/NRL/Soccer
No Aus Sport Support. Needs NRL, NRLW, A-League, AFL, NBL etc. Otherwise beautiful app. Will be great for World Cup but after that not very useful in Australian without our local games. At least give us NRL and the A-League!
More Aussie sports. Need to add NRL and AFL
Turkish Super League PLEASE. Love to see the Turkish Super League added on please for the next season coming up
Review. More Australian sport please
Good but some work to do. Great tag this is finally available in Australia but obviously some work to do - like more Australian sports. Given Apples live of F1 it would be nice to follow individual teams and drivers in F1.
Clean UI, but completely misses the target for Aussie sports fans. The app itself is typical Apple: fast, incredibly clean, beautifully designed, and the Live Activities on the lock screen are great for tracking games at a glance. Launching it just in time for the World Cup is a smart move, but actually opening the app in Australia reveals a massive, glaring blind spot. For an app called "Apple Sports" launched locally, the lack of domestic coverage is baffling. There is zero support for the AFL, NRL, NBL, or the A-League. In Australia, these aren't niche interests; they are the absolute core of our sporting culture. It feels like the app was localised in name only, completely ignoring the sporting landscape here. If I still have to jump back into third-party apps to see if my footy team won or check the live ladder, Apple Sports becomes a redundant icon on my home screen. Apple, you’ve nailed the interface, but you desperately need to secure the data rights for local Australian leagues. Until the AFL, NRL, and our local soccer and hoops are integrated, this app remains a hollow shell for Aussie sports fans. It has great potential, but it's not a daily driver yet.
Useless. Why even bother to launch this in Australia without any relevant sports in it?
No Local Sports. While the arrival of Apple Sports in Australia finally is great news, the app would be a lot more useful with local AFL, NRL, NBL, A-League, Rugby, BBL games and results
Need Australian sports and leagues. Great app they just need to add NRL NBL AFL and even union as well as other Australian sports
Great Layout. Works really well for what it is, ease of access and no useless features. Great app for tracking upcoming sports and recent results. Needs to add Australian sports though, NRL, AFL not included is a shame.

Limited. The only sports I watch are golf and tennis. This app is useless to me.
Great Start.. The app is very nicely laid out but since it is new; there are a few leagues that are noticeably absent: CFL, PGA, PWHL, NLL. Looking forward to those additions.
Statistics. Missing statistics for every sport leader. Don’t like that you need to click a score then hit standings. Should be a separate tab.
Nhl fan. Love the live activites, but it would be nice to have a boxscore tab to quickly view who scored, who got assists
Missing something. This app is missing CFL (Canadian Football League). I want to see how the Montreal Alouettes are doing. Also not all Italian soccer teams are listed such as Bari.
CFL?. Needs CFL to follow
Needs more leagues. Missing several good leagues. The NLL and the CFL make this a big fail for me.
Why no Dynamic Island support. This could be a great app if they supported their own Dynamic Island that they are pushing for in third parties but don’t do it in their own app?
Nice but needs. I love the layout and the automatic launch of your favorite teams for live activities. I can’t understand why there is no Apple Watch widget at this time. This needs to be addressed.
Hockey. They call a period an “end” need to get the terminology right for hockey
No CFL Canadian Football League. It’s missing my favourite CFL teams.
Amazing real-time stats!. It’s my favorite sports app now! I don’t care about CFL so much, but Iwatch the NHL a lot and the fact that I can see what players are on and off the ice live is a great feature!
Missing a league. They haven’t added the CFL so I can’t see the tiger cats
Very much a work in progress. Limited available leagues. Clunky UI to switch to different league. Doesn’t show spring training MLB scores or details like other apps. Assume like Apple Maps it’ll improve overtime, but a very underwhelming first impression.
This app is missing so much. I want one place for everything that is nicely integrated, but this is missing racing, CFL, tournaments etc. It needs to really get everything in there before I consider using it.
Sports. Missing the CFL. Add it in asap please. 🧐
App feels unfinished. Please add live notification and Dynamic Island support.
Dynamic Island.. This app would be amazing if it’s compatible with Dynamic Island. It’s not. It’s just proof that the Dynamic Island is just a fancy name for notch. Useless.
CFL missing. I’m more interested in the Canadian Football League and NHL (which is in the app). Would really like to see the CFL in the app. Would be awesome if Formula 1 (F1) and UFC was in the app. Those three would complete the app for me. 5 stars if had at least CFL.
Best sports app but have two suggestions. Please add support for both the UFC and CFL, also, please add support for live activities :)
Excellent app, 2 suggestions.. Apple Sports has become my favourite app for sports. Now the new integration of Live Activities and Dynamic Island, it is now way easier to follow your favourite teams. One thing that would make this app even better is playoff brackets. Now that MLB post season is approaching, it would be very cool to see the postseason playoff bracket instead of the standings. Another thing is easier access to the lineups in baseball. I would like to see the starting lineup on the first page and as the game goes on, substitutions for players. Overall, this app is one of the best apps out there to follow sports games and matches.
Terrible app. It looks like this app is curated by someone who doesn’t know anything about world football. Apart from top 4-5 European football leagues, it doesn’t track anything else. It doesn’t even have Champions League, FA Cup or Europa. In fact, it doesn’t even have ongoing Euros. Doesn’t have calendar selector to see matches for a particular date. UI is drab. Seems like it was designed by a student for his graduation project.
CFL. The app is good and simple to use but it need CFL.
Missing many sports!!. The app is missing almost all Canadian sports teams. Also missing soccer teams. You should cross-reference with the Apple News app on what sports to have on here. Right now, there's a whole lot of nothing useful!
App needs to sync with actual TV. App is useless if you’re watching the game as well because it’s about 40 seconds ahead in game time to TV, so I just close the app.
LCH. Svp, ajouter la ligue de hockey canadiens LCH.
CFL is missing!. Agree that there is important leagues and teams missing.
Ok app, please fix live activities. The app is pretty bare bones but it looks very clean which I love. The automatic live activities is totally broken though, the feature doesn’t work at all.
Many missing features. I like the design but this app misses many features, leagues and teams. - Canadian Football League - Canadian Premier League - CONCACAF Champions Cup - UEFA Champions League and etc
Improve detail and stats. Could be better, more detail, also update the stocks app please, it sucks :(
CFL World Soccer all seem to be missing. Why is the CFL not listed or Euro and other world soccer competitions.
Needs lots of work. Although it’s new, it’s missing a lot of features. - Line ups for football (soccer) - National teams, Champions League and many other competitions are missing in football - Football teams are shown the same as NBA or NFL, in football they don’t use W-D-L stats, only on standings table - Notification alerts - Turning of betting odds
good app but missing notifications set up. Does not have to option to notify when game starts. Great live updates when using the app or using the Dynamic Island, how ever at least I can’t find it there’s nowhere that allows the app that says game is about to start
Only decent app with NHL live activity support!. Love it
Could be one of the best, but…. Overall I like the look and I think it could be my go to sports app one day, but it needs a little more detail in the stats. I could be wrong, but I don’t see Formula 1 listed as a sport to follow.
Sports a plenty but…. Love the app but missing ‘Football North of the boarder’. (CFL)
Add CFL!!!. The app is good but add the CFL please it’s would be way better
No widget ???!. Common @Apple no widget ??! Seriously ????
Missing Teams and Leagues. For Canadians we are missing out on our Canadian Football League. That’s one of the main reasons I wanted to used this app. I have to use another app just to follow the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Fix this and I would change my rating.
The best you can see pretty much every sport. The best 😱😮🤑
Missing football in Canada. Very disappointed that it does not have the CFL.
Add cricket. Great app. Please add cricket
Not bad. But not fully fleshed out, missing Canada.. App is ok. I mostly like the live sports scores. Please add the CFL as well and I'd score it a 4.
Needs to show scoring plays. Very pretty but not being able to see the scoring plays for a given event makes it not worth it for me.
Needs CFL!. Missing CFL teams.
Missing league. Add CFL football league and teams before beginning season!!! And add live game on Lock Screen your late about that!!!
Sort By Leagues Then By Time. Hi. Great app. One thing that would make it easier to use is an option to sort the day’s games by Leagues and then by time … instead of by time only. When following multiple sporting leagues, this would make it a lot easier to follow the leagues. Especially on Sundays, where I’ve got NFL games mixed in with NHL games and NBA games in no particular order aside than by the games start time. Again, make it an option so that individual users can set based on their preference.
CFL / SL. Needs Canadian Football League and Scottish League Football.
Z. Hi
Solid Foundation. There is a solid foundation for great sports app here but there are a lot of key features missing. Things like more detailed views of leagues and standings, more supported leagues, and domestic + European cups for football competitions. Critically, Apple will also need to implement live activities to set this app apart from the rest.

What Sports?. • I was excited to see Apple publish a Sports App, but I guess I didn’t read the fine print before downloading the. I suppose that my taste in sports doesn’t match with the taste of Apple and it’s young developers. • Yes there’s coverage of College Basketball, men’s and women’s, and including a Tournaments. There seems to be coverage of College Football. The NFL professional football league, and the the professional baseball league - MLB. • I would have thought that the App would cover College Baseball, professional golf, other college sports - Women’s Softball, Track & Field, Gymnastics, Swimming, etc. These sports are all covered on television/cable/streaming, and not on your App. • What is covered is soccer! Leagues from the USA to the end of the earth show up. I have no interest whatsoever with soccer (and I understand that it’s referred to as “football” by it’s arrogant fans). • Despite my comments above, I’m open. Go ahead and show all the soccer you’d like, but how about some respect for American college sports, and especially baseball and softball. • Keep working on it. I have confidence that Apple can do it right!
A good start. The UI is beautiful. You can select your favorite leagues and teams, and their games for today or upcoming will appear on a main dashboard conveniently for you. Stats are also shown for the game you select. For soccer specific, I like that it shows me the current team standings, the play-by-play, and lineups for a game. I’ll add more stars to my review once I see, and like, a section for stats on professional players, news specific to a league, and media. I would assume media right now would be exclusive to MLS since Apple holds the rights, but that will likely expand into other sports / leagues. Apple, you have my attention. What’s next?
Has potential. It is obvious this is not a finished product quite yet. There are minimal features compared to competitors, and even those features are limited. For example, you cannot select NCAAB or NCAAWB as a league to follow. You can only select a specific conference. There is also no way to get more details about a team other than their schedule. This means we cannot view team rosters. The design is very “Apple” which is great. But it also feels like this was released too soon. I’ll eagerly be awaiting updates to it as I am sure once Apple invests more into it, it could easily blow past the competition.
Feature Request - time delay for live actions. Great app, one request. Add a variable time delay, because your data feed can be 30-45 seconds ahead of “live” streaming services (eg Directv stream). It is incredibly frustrating to be watching live sports and know the result of a play right before I see it happen. I understand that some people may not have this issue, so a toggle of a fixed delay or a couple of common choices would be ideal. Turning down live / verbose updates may be another option for me, which I’m looking into.
Great app, just missing a few things. Love the presentation of everything and having all my favorite sports in one place. The Live Activities are really convenient, but only when they work. After the most recent update, Live Activities don’t work for me. I tap the clock icon on the top right of an event page and as soon as I close it, the clock icon is unchecked again. I tried troubleshooting a bunch but nothing works, so hopefully this gets fixed in the next update. It would also be nice if every sport showed overall standings. Some like basketball do, but college basketball doesn’t.
Great app, super clean. Love the app, love the realtime updates. Love selecting my teams. One thing I would love is if in the game listing it wouldn't just say "click here to watch on Apple TV" which I totally get why you do that. But tell me where or how it's being broadcasted like on other apps. Big Ten, ESPN, Fox, etc. I use your app to get updates, not to actually watch it, so tell me where I can watch it if I can. Also, make navigating the standings and future schedule for your favorite teams easier rather than just "upcoming". Thanks, keep this app it's already replaced some of my favorite sports apps.
It’s NICE To know and see that apple listens to their own customers!!! 3 star to 5 star rating!. At first months ago the app didn’t even have nfl as an option… I couldn’t believe how that could happen! Now the nfl is covered in the app enough that I changed my mind and went from 3 stars to 5 stars for a review! I love apple and apple products so thanks for listening to your own customers apple I wasn’t the only person who thought that without nfl it wasn’t worth downloading
Add in Women’s NCAA Volleyball. It’s a good app with relatively useful and interactive features. The details in the game matchup screen are helpful for just about any user (betting odds, standings, etc.). I would love to see Women’s NCAA Volleyball added above all other options. But would also love to see the glitches fixed on certain NCAA Football games (scores are not populating accurately), the inability to add game update notifications, and more in-depth knowledge on game matchups would be helpful. The app has the potential to be amazing and I’m hoping it becomes that. “Apple Sports” becoming the source of truth for all things sports would be amazing for Apple users!
Bluntly.
Well organized info, live activities is great!. All together this is great. My only complaint is that it updates too fast. When watching a game (generally streaming) the app is 30-90 seconds AHEAD of the broadcast. So you see goals and touchdowns on the app before you do on TV - it takes some of the excitement out of watching live. It would be nice if there was an option to turn on a 90 second delay or something… Otherwise I highly recommend
Feels Unfinished. Not sure why the app was released in its current state. I was excited for an Apple Sports app that could replace the ESPN app for me to keep track of the teams I care about. But the app currently available feels incomplete. It’s missing NCAA Football, and NFL among others. It lacks any real stats or easy ways to explore other teams outside of your chosen teams. It also doesn’t include rankings for college basketball which is a huge part of the sport. The app just doesn’t seem to offer much in its current state that wouldn’t be better served through the ESPN app. It looks a little nicer and doesn’t have the extra annoyances that come with the ESPN app, but the missing features and information make it an easy pass right now unless things are improved.
Very Odd … Standings 🤷. Finally, the betting odds are ugly and should be off by default until toggled on.
Live activities implementation is frustrating. Apples implementation of live activities is annoying. Having the scores in Dynamic Island is great. That this requires a constant activity notification on your Lock Screen is not. Most of us have a personal photo or something as wallpaper. Having that blocked by a large dialog window is annoying. Especially when clearing it means removing the game from Dynamic Island. Sometimes less is more. There was a time that was a core principle at Apple. At least allow me to push them out of the way like the notifications stack.
Hide Odds Option = 5 Stars!. Thank you for providing the option to hide betting odds. I’m a fan of the games themselves and the recent years trends towards an obsession with placing bets on games has been frustrating for fans like me (and perhaps those with gambling addictions too). Having a place to check scores without all the fantasy and gambling noise is so refreshing. For future updates, would love to also see league standings and perhaps some motorsports categories (IMSA, FIAWEC, and NASCAR in particular!) but this is a wonderful start.
Wild.
Over advertised for an underwhelming app. The app is pretty basic, and doesn’t have features like live activities or information on where a game is airing. It also lacks visibility into a teams season schedule, only showing 3 days worth of upcoming games. Nice design, but a surprisingly lackluster app in its initial iteration, feels like it launched early. The score is more a rating on the advertising of this app. I have it installed and use it. But Apple feels the need to pop up a full screen ad for it when opening the News app, even as a subscriber. Raising the rates for these services while also using them to advertise other apps feels like a greedy move. Cut back on the marketing and fund some more development on this app.
Promising start, but I hope they read this for the next update. This is great for an MVP sports app. Extremely clean and fast. Most sports score apps take a long time to load. I also love the standings connected to the games. It’s missing some of the obvious features that would make me delete my other score apps. 1) Notifications 2) Live scores in the Dynamic Island 3) Home Screen widgets I’m sure those are coming. A few minor enhancements I’d love to see. 1) Be able to jump from “yesterday” “today” “upcoming” with a swipe left and right instead of having to hit the words. 2) play by play having just the scoring plays. I want to be able to quickly see goals and who scored them. 3) In the upcoming section some of the far out games are hidden behind a click when there is plenty of room. If you’re showing games through next Wednesday, show all the games even if it means scrolling. Good start, can’t wait for the updates.
Thanks!
Score not changing on Lock Screen. Hello just curious how sometimes the score will change on a locked screen and other times it does not move and stays on to the sane score and the time on the clock of the quarter, period etc will continue to move. The only way to fix it is by constantly opening up the app pushing on the live activity button over and over. Then it will work for a minute and go back to doing the same thing. Is there an update that can be done to the app to fix this other than that the app works fine.
Getting There. I don’t have anything much different from what the consensus seems to be with this app. Great idea, on the right track, but another half-baked execution from Apple. Unfortunately, this seems to be their trend lately. I’d be willing to bet it was related to deadlines and/or MLS. I like how simple and clean the interface is. Easy to manage. Strange that an app, FROM Apple, doesn’t have a widget option. Especially a sport-related one. It is a step in the right direction, and I hope they continue to improve it. Will be nice to have a native alternative to the rest of the bloated feeling main sport apps out there.
Shoehorned into Apples UX. Apple does a lot of amazing things, but this sports app isn’t one of them. A lot of the reviews on here rave about the UI/UX. but I honestly think that’s one of the worst aspects of it. They’ve tried to flatten the sports genera to something synonymous with their weather app. Unfortunately sports are not that simplistic. There’s a TON of data and content that needs to be communicated to the user, and this current construct feels overbearing… and this is without the addition of additional critical features that are missing. The product is already super heavy. It’ll surely collapse in on itself when they introduce new features. The mistake they’re making is trying up leverage existing Apple paradigms for a product that needs new paradigms.
Love the layout. I love the look and layout of the app. It is easy to read, even in Box Score when other apps you have to scroll through the screen to get it all. The only thing from keeping it a 5 stars is in College Basketball. You need to add the option to look at all Top 25 scores and All Div 1 scores like what you’ve done for the March Madness tournament. I don’t want to add every conference into “My League” just to see the scores for other teams/conferences that I don’t “follow”. Because of that I’m stuck using the other apps until this option is added.
Easy & Simple Sports App. This app is fantastic compared to others I’ve used. Unlike the ad-heavy sports apps or the buggy ESPN app that constantly crashes, this app is clean, simple, and gives me all the stats and information I need without any ads. The design is minimal and user-friendly, making it a pleasure to use. I’d love to see UFC cards and stats added in future updates, though I understand there’s a deal with ESPN. Adding UFC would make this app even better. Highly recommend!
Could be better. The app has a lot of potential. I do like the betting odds and game stats, I just wish there were deeper team and player stats. You can’t view previous game stats except for the day before which you should be able to since the app has the previous information. Also the the network the games are being played on should be listed, especially considering you don’t show a full schedule, only a week out. I’ll use app in conjunction with the NBA app and online sources. I may keep it, I may not. I’ll see how it plays out during March Madness before I make my final decision.
Better Highlight?. First off I have to say that I absolutely love this app! I don't think I've come across one as accurate as this and I use it constantly. My only critique would be with the MLB coverage where you can see the bases and outs. It seems it's just a little difficult to see how many are on base and how many are out since the grey and white are very similar. Might I suggest a color like yellow for bass runners and red for ours? Other than that keep you the good work on this!
Great app - Improvements needed. Great app overall and I could envision this being the only app I need for my sports info. I’d request like others have to showcase where certain games are being broadcasted on. But also instead of having to click on certain matches for example EPL to showcase standings, there should be an option to view it in the “today, yesterday, upcoming” interface. Along with that maybe showcase statistics as well that lets user filter for top scorer, assist leader, etc. this is obviously applicable to all leagues/sports to enhance user experience
Notifications are too fast. Great, simple app for score updates and live tracking. But, while all other spots apps have enough delay so that notifications come in after you see them on streaming TV services, this one sends the notifications so quickly that they usually beat the streamed broadcast. Having to remember to manually disable notifications for a game I’m watching is annoying and I wish these notifications were delayed just a bit or that there could be a setting for a delay like some other apps.
Great app, especially with Live Activities. Apple Sports is a great app. It is my main sports app for scores. That said, there is a couple things they could add. 1. More leagues One of the major spots this app is lacking is with other sports. If they added PGA Tour, tennis, NASCAR, or other NCAA sports, this app would get much better 2. Channel Info Enough said. 3. Whole league/team schedules They need to add a feature where you can see the whole league schedule. Or if you’re following a team, you could see their whole schedule. 4. Sports news I know they already have the sports section of Apple News, but they should add that in here. 5. iPad Make iPad support. All in all, this is already a great app. But if they added this, I’d love it even more. It’s amazing to see how far this app has come, even in a short time. If they added even just two of these things, I’d make it 5 stars. If they added all of these, I dare say I would even delete ESPN.
Great app…. This has become our family’s go to play-by-play app. There a few things that would bring it up to 5 stars: 1) in play-by-play, show when a flag has been thrown and when a play is being reviewed (so we know what’s going on when there’s a big pause), 2) show when a time-out has been called and how many time outs each team has, 3) show players that are out (on injured reserve, etc.), 4) show conference standings with team stats (not just division). With these changes, we wouldn’t have to go back and forth to other apps.
Conference standings do not make sense. When you open a matchup and look at the matchup odds and details, below you see standings. Instead of seeing the overall standings of both teams within their respective conference (both could be within conference), you see the standings of every team under the same conference type. For example, under Charlotte/Memphis matchup, you see the standings of every single western conference rather than the two teams in the matchup you are viewing. American conference has a west and east division. And instead of showing both or even the overall standings across the conference l, I am seeing the western division standings of every conference.
Great App, Great Notifications, Missing a couple things. This is a great app. I love the notifications and the ease at following leagues and games. It is missing a couple things. 1. I wish there was a schedule view. It would be nice to be able to view past results for individual teams. 2. The play-by-play is a little hard to follow. The color bars indicating which team the play is for are hard to see in dark mode. And when teams have similar colors, it’s difficult to differentiate between the two teams. It would be better to have team logos in the play-by-play.
Good ideas from a smart human who you should consider hiring for his great ideas. It’s a good idea. Looks cool and all but there’s some changes that need to be made. 1. Needs more leagues; I should not have to add every single college basketball conference to see every game. I should just be able to follow the league itself. Also add college hockey, college lacrosse, the champions league, Europa league, etc. basically add every sport that exists. 2. Stats; I should be able to click on a teams logo and view their roster, player stats, team stats, standings, and other news about the team. There’s are some big changes that need to happen immediately to improve the app.
Thank you!
Could Be A Lot Better. I want to love this app, there’s a lot to like so far. I love that the scores are updated basically in real time. It seems to be the fastest score app out there, but I wish there were game highlights and news within the app like ESPN. I find myself still going to the ESPN app for my scores because it offers way more. I also wish this app would separate the sports in the my leagues tab instead of bundling them all together. It’s too much to look at. I’m hopeful there will be plenty of updates in the future to this app.
Missing function. I love the app but I strongly think that there is a function that needs to be implemented, like you can do with google, we should be able to pin the scores in the Dynamic Island, and if there is more than one match that you want to follow, you can pick the one that you want to follow the most and pin that score, besides that, I think it’s a great app, probably a widget where you can pick different matches to follow the score, like the NFL, sometimes its hard to follow all the scores at the time, and the simplicity of the app would make it really easy
Terrible App. Pales in comparison to similar sports apps (CBS Sports). Unless I’m using it wrong, the options for choosing your favorite teams are limited to the specific season. In other words, the app does not show NFL or college football until those seasons start. That’s ridiculous. I might like to keep up with NFL/college football news during the off-season for example. I don’t even recognize some of the sports that are listed (Bundesliga, LaLiga, Liga MX, Serie A????). Realize there are more sports than baseball, football and basketball, but how many people are going to download this app just to keep tabs on NWSL? If you’re looking for a comprehensive sports app, download CBS Sports. It’s easy to set up and allows you to stay informed about your favorite sports all year.
Basic selection of leagues. If you only care about major American sports or a few top European soccer leagues this app is good. It could be vastly better if it offered a comprehensive selection of sports and leagues. I currently use two different apps to gather the score info I need. I’d love to have a single scores app that included all the soccer teams I follow as well as the NFL/MLB/NBA/NHL teams, but only one is in it’s country’s top division so this app thinks it doesn’t exist. This app also only acknowledges three women’s leagues, which is woeful at this point in time. It’s also super obnoxious and irresponsible to insert gambling data into each game’s info above any stats. For an Apple app this gets D for effort.
Very much a rough draft. Doesn’t have many features yet, interface feels unpolished but I am hoping this is the worst it ever is and that they keep working on it. Would love to see not just scores and schedule but standings, news and more. Also, any sports app requires the NFL, which I will assume is coming but as of this review is not here. Also, Motorsport’s coverage, specifically NASCAR and F1 would be great for those of us that enjoy it. In the end, I would very much love a great sports app that didn’t constantly bombard me with either advertisements or an attempt to get me to use their Sportsbook or daily fantasy, so I am pretty hopeful for this.
Good idea, still slightly limited. I was very excited when I heard about this app. I love the simplicity of it and how it shows the information up front without bogging things down and making it hard to find what I am looking for. I am not sure if this app will offer live activities or play by play abilities within. However, it is still limited with the number of teams available to follow. I know things such as the NFL isn’t available yet, but I wish it had even more teams (or leagues) such as the Champions League or US Men’s Soccer Team etc.
Lacking in meaningful presentation of data. First, i would like to say the app is very easy to read, which I appreciate greatly. However, the layout and presentation of data is lacking. There is no easy way to find out how runs were scored, or who scored goals and when without having to scroll through the play-by-play. That data should be readily available. There should be a separate tab for league standings. It should not be at the bottom of every game summary. Until this changes I will have to continue using other apps. I keep checking and hoping whenever there is a new update.
Missing features and teams. An app dedicated to sports scores that’s not trying to constantly sell me things or get me to bet, or show me lots of sports I don’t care about (ie ESPN app) is a good step forward. However, it doesn’t include women’s college soccer (I follow Stanford), only includes the top domestic soccer league (so no championship or League 1, no wrexham etc.), doesn’t include domestic cups (FA Cup, league cup) and doesn’t include international teams or competitions for either men’s or women’s soccer. This might become a great app, but for now, I’ll have to stick with ESPN as it has more of the things I’m looking for (as well as lots of things I’m not)
Looks nice, but NCAA basketball is very incomplete.
