Marvel Unlimited Comments & Reviews 2026
Increasingly frustrated. In other reviews your response is, “However, at this time, you’re not able to filter to MU-titles only.” Why are you punishing those of who are faithful MU users who are now flooded with comics we purchased pre-MU? It would be so simple to make this filter work, but is it going to take years of paying you before you do us the favor of implementing a simple feature that everyone wants, the same way you did with grid view? Surely you can understand how difficult this has made it to read comics. Do you not want us to use the app? Update: 7.43.0 is another useless update with non-specific “bug fixes and performance enhancements” that don’t fix any of the bugs or provide any of the performance enhancements that people have been asking for. I don’t understand why I am still being forced to see comics that I bought in 2012 in my library and only a bunch of non-functional “filters” that won’t let me remove them. Why don’t you care about the actual user experience? Update #2: Removing MU titles is clearly not what I have been referring to. Not sure if you actually employ app developers or not but it would take one person one afternoon to create a filter to remove purchased comics and thereby make your longtime users happy. Also not sure if you’re actually interested in that.
Great idea, bad execution. The amount of comics is absolutely ridiculous, and I highly recommend purchasing for people wanting to plow their way through years of comics. Unfortunately there are several major flaws with this. I’d say once every 2 weeks to a month you’ll be logged out and have to restore your subscription, which will lose all of your recently read comics. You will definitely need to book mark your progress in the notes app. The search engine is horrible. You cannot look up specific issues of comics. You have to find the series and then scroll all the way to the comic. Not to mention the fact it’s one volume vertical scrolling. If it was three columns vertical scrolling it would make the search process much faster. The reading guides are decent, but in the end lackluster. There are many feature missing, key above all being you cannot read several titles at once by release date. For example, I’m reading through late 80’s Spiderman. Why is there no way to read ASM, PPSSM, and WOSM in order by release date? I understand I can create a playlist, but the amount of time and inconvenience makes it hard than it needs to be. I’d love to have a way to toggle on several titles from a certain year. For example you should be able to read all Spider-Man, all x men, all avengers, and all silver surfer by release date, saving you from selecting and scrolling to each comic in a series. If a few things were tweaked and added this would be an easy 5 out of 5. I really hope I can give a higher score in the future and love the idea of so many comics being accessible without spending a fortune on omnis or trades.
A five star experience, the best in the biz.. There is something magical about this app that is hard to quantify, but every day I open it and lose myself in the world of marvel. The fact that this app focuses so much on the creatives that make these comics just makes it feel even better. You can look at nearly any comic and see who wrote it, who inked it, pencilled it, edited it, lettered it, and then tap that persons name and see their entire marvel career unfold. It is amazing the kind of things you can discover just by looking at what makes the comics you love into the comics you love, that perfect harmony of creative teams working for a common vision that is greater than its parts. The app remains fresh, marvel continues to improve the release schedule, the back catalog, and they are letting a ton of new writers and artists cut their teeth on the unlimited comics. It also doesn’t hurt that we are in a golden age of comics where every single editorial office is pushing out multiple must read comics a month. The only feature request I have is some minor customization stuff. Let us change the logo of the app and make a reading now or recommended widget for lock screens in iOS 17.
Great app but. Great app but they had an update where it shows the frames of the comic instead of the actual comic. I assume this is so people can’t screenshot it but I’d prefer if they just do what Netflix does and make the screenshots black automatically. I understand where they come from but when I’m reading I feel like I miss out on so much of the comic. Bits get cut out and you can’t really see the full personality of the comics and art. It also makes it to where you can’t zoom in. As an artist I care about more than what the comic is saying. I like to see how the frames are built into the page, and being able to zoom in on the art and appreciate it. I feel that’s it’s only flaw. If they could go back to how it was before that would be great. I pay for the app because I want to actually see the comic. Doesn’t really feel like a comic with the new update. Still a great app, it’s just annoying to read like this.
The recent updates have ruined the App for me. Before the 7.0 update, the app was so easy to use. I was able to search by publication date, choose a year, and read all the issues from that year in chronological order regardless of the series, creators, etc. With Marvel comics existing in a shared universe, I like to be able to see the whole chronological story of how things play out in the universe. They completely removed this feature so now there is no way to read comics in chronological order, you can only search by character and series now so you would have to read the comics out of order as far as the marvel universe is concerned. I’m someone that likes to see everything from the beginning that leads up to certain points, like Civil War and the Infinity War, and also read those events in chronological order without having to switch between series constantly. I went from 1930s to the last 1960s before they removed the feature so i never got to get to those big comic events. Please readd this feature it’s the only reason I unsubscribed is because this was removed and replaced with a harder to use UI and search function
Comics good. App bad.. Love having access to near unlimited reading of marvel comics while traveling for work, but the app itself splits the difference between marginally acceptable and absolute trash. Why do I have to close the app then reopen it and relogin for it to recognize my account? Why does the app freeze up arbitrarily when navigating between issues? Why does selecting an issue for “Read offline” sometimes not work and prevent me from viewing the issue until I unselect it? Why is there no way to word-wrap or horizontal scroll names of longer series to see what series your actually scrolling through without clicking them and losing your place? I’m in software and am sympathetic to anyone deploying applications on multiple platforms but seriously? For a paid subscription companion app, that is essentially a glorified image viewer, I would call this a swing and a miss for whichever department determined this was good enough for distribution... However, I still need to use this app as there is no better alternative and would love to see usability issues addressed in future releases. If no updates other than resolution of the app’s quirky bugs were released my rating would change to a 5.
Great—when it works. Honestly overall enjoy being able to catch up on a backlog of so many comics. The annual plan is also a hella bargain! However, at least every third issue in a series will have multiple pages fail to load. And I have tried everything. Closing and reopening the app, downloading chapters (honestly I haven’t even been able to get a single chapter to actually download because it keeps putting out an error symbol instead of actually downloading the title), turning my devices off and on, trying only on data, trying with data turned off and only on Wi-Fi, and literally nothing helps. Now I have full issues of releases just not even loading. At first I thought it was because my iPad is on the older side, but even my iPhone 13 runs into the exact same problems. And again, I have tried on data, other ISPs, and other devices, etc. it seems to be a problem with the app as a whole. I want to love this app so much because I love the content. But honestly the reading experience has been kinda garbo.
The Redesign is a Complete Disaster. The old version of this app was, aside from a few obnoxious bugs, super well-designed and made sorting and organizing comics and reading lists incredibly easy. With this latest update, they’ve not only turned the app into a buggy mess, but they’ve set the user interface back about 10 years. It’s like the designers are TRYING to make reading less convenient. The new search function is borderline unusuable. The old version of the app had a variety of Browse features that made comic discovery fun and easy. Now, sometimes it’s impossible to find a specific issue even if you search for the exact title and issue #. Reading Lists are no longer easy to navigate. For some incomprehensible reason, they got rid of the handy Grid View in your library, meaning that all comics are now organized by series. This makes jumping back and forth between series (which is necessary if you’re following a reading order or reading chronologically) and absolute chore. This is all made even worse by the fact that the app is now ridden with bugs and constantly forgets which comics are “read” and “unread.” Meaning, even if you organize your unread books chronologically, the list is no longer accurate because half of the books are ones you already read months ago. Just an all-around disaster. I can only assume this redesign was some corporate mandate to make the app more mobile-friendly.
Love the content; update spawned problems. I have been using this app for months now and have had very few problems with it. I had some comics downloaded, my reading lists were just as I liked them, and all was right with the world when it came to this app. Then this morning I noticed that it had auto updated. I opened the app exited to see what new features had been added. The new loading screen was beautiful. But it showed that I had to re-sign in. Ok, I guess. I did it and it was like completely starting over with the app. It shows that I don’t have any reading lists or any comics downloaded or anything read. Ok, not a huge deal. I know what I’ve been reading. Then I tried to read a comic in the app. It was so buggy. I couldn’t get the full page to show and scrolling through the panels to read was a nightmare. Please fix this. I really love being able to read all my comics on this app and don’t want to not be able to do that very well anymore.
Best place for Marvel and Star Wars comics. This app is the best thing since sliced bread…almost. I love this app and although you have to wait a little longer for new release comics, I don’t put that on the creators of this app. I only have two issues that really are more convenience than anything. 1. I wish the reading lists that have different series would follow the order of the list and not just keep you in the series that begins the list. For example I am reading the A.X.E Judgement Day Prelude and the first series in the list is the 2018 Avengers issue 1-6. Instead of then hitting continue reading to take me to the next series on the list (Eternals) it takes me to the next Avengers issue in that series. It would just make reading lists a lot more convenient. 2. This kinda goes with it but now I just have Issue #7 of the Avengers sitting in my continue reading when I don’t plan on reading it. There’s no way to clear out my continue reading section (that I know of currently) and it would be so awesome if I could just remove that to save the clutter of my Home Screen area. All in all this app is still amazing and I would be more than glad to rate 5 stars if it wasn’t for those two “issues”. If you don’t mind those two things then this app is definitely for you and even if you are like me then this app is still for you. Amazing app that makes comics more accessible and fun to read. Just needs a tad bit of a touch up when it comes to organization and reading lists!
Locks up frequently. The sheer number of comics available to read makes marvel unlimited well worth the price for the subscription. I'm an annual subscriber and I'm always impressed on what it has to offer. Unfortunately, the app is quite buggy. Many times when I click to open a book to read I get a black screen that says loading data and nothing happens. Sometimes i get the message in the middle of reading a book when changing pages. The only way I've found to fix it is to close out the app and reopen it again. This can be very frustrating when I'm reading a lot of issues in a row. Also, the download process is show. I try to download a book in the hope that I won't get any loading pages errors but then the download can take hours, if the book even downloads at all. I really enjoy the app when it works. I hope these bug fixes can be taken care of soon.
Wow! Ruined a great app in one fell stroke.. A week ago Marvel Unlimited was the best comic reading app and comic investment on the market. It had a few glitches but it was a 5 star app and was worth every penny. I’ve had it for years and I have tried DC apps, Comixology, CloudLibrary, and Hoopla. Marvel was the best even when it was purely web-based back in the day. But the most recent update threw away everything in an attempt to be intuitive and create a “cooler” look. I had years of comics marked as read and a library full of my next comics to read. All gone in an update. Replaced with some random issues I’ve already read weeks or months ago. The search feature was so easy to use before. Now it is so user unfriendly and difficult to find issues. Don’t get me started on how difficult it is to add or delete issues from your library. I just read an issue using full screen mode (smart panel doesn’t seem to work right for some issues and isn’t my preferred view mode) and I noticed that it will not do full screen. It has a black border around the page of about half an inch. Makes everything smaller and I have the newest large iPhone model. The update is a huge step backwards. Please fix it quickly because it is making me reconsider continuing my subscription. Luckily I have a few months left before I have to renew so I hope the marketing and software geniuses behind this update get it figured out and get it functional again. Change can be good. But this was poorly conceived.
Great App - Few suggestions. I absolutely love the smart reading that goes from panel to panel, and then when there’s a full page, it actually shows you it, so you don’t miss anything. I also love the ease to track storylines and/or individual characters. It is so easy to keep up with a storyline. What a relief! I only wish, with the insane amount of content I read, that I could rate the comics, right a few notes on the review (but only for my view) so I can go back and revisit how I felt about that comic book and see if I learn something new. Also maybe have a separate tab that could compile the one that I read, I think that would better help in visualizing how much I enjoy these comic books! And they would be easier to find since they could be catalogued by date read, or even the rating I gave, all this without needing to add it to the library, just automatically add it to the “read” tab. That would be amazing! Overall, to me, this subscription is as important as my Apple Music one! Excelsior!!
Update ruined it. Update: They seem to have fixed the issue with my missing “Read” issues. But the event that I was reading is still a huge pain to navigate. I like to read the issues in release order, jumping from series to series, instead of just one series at a time. The event page used to list all the different series in rows with the issues increasing left to right. It made things really easy to find. Now it lists everything in one looooong column top to bottom. So alllll the issues of one series, then allllll the issues of another, then alllllll the issues of another, and so on. It makes it a HUGE hassle to jump from issue 6 in one series to issue 6 in another series. A lot of unnecessary scrolling when the old way of showing them all in a grid worked so well. This used to be a good app but they ruined it. After the update I had to delete the app and reinstall it just to log in. I’m trying to find where I left off but the event that I was following is gone. I searched for one of the titles to find it that way but none of my comics are listed as Read anymore. The interface is not the worst I’ve seen but definitely a step backwards from what it was.
FIX IT. With the new update I am not able to select multiple comics to remove or move around in my library. It is so annoying having to individually remove each comic please fix it. With the new update there are so many bugs in general. It’s sort of sad how many bugs devs let come through with this update, like did you even test out the app update before releasing it? If I’m in guided view and I try to double click out it sends me way back to the first page. If I’m in guided view and try to move back and forth between horizontal and vertical view it glitches and I’m stuck viewing two full pages on the screen and it won’t let me move it at all. Sometimes the comics don’t even load upon initial opening of the app and it just gives you options of “new comics” “recommended for you” but there’s nothing listed below it. Get rid of this update completely or hire a new dev team to do it right because it’s ridiculous that this app has been literal **** since the new update over a month and a half(?) ago. I’m not paying a monthly subscription to just have an app in my collection that I can barely even use because the bugs become so frustrating.
Insanely cool app!. Yes this is a dream come true. I’ve now had this app for over three years and consider it this best value of any app or subscription I own. They’ve updated and tweaked this thing to where it’s perfect! Want the new stuff? It’s all here running 3 months from when it first came out. I had 24 new comics in my queue from just last week. I read 20 of them. That’s over 80 dollars full retail. I pay by the year, averages out to like 2 dollars per week. That’s without touching my vast, insane library of arcs and comics stored in my queue that I struggle to break into due to all the cool new stuff dropped every week that I just gotta read. This app lets you be frivolous and read goofy cool stuff you wouldn’t normally chance bc of the cost of buying a real comic. Because of this, the comics I read have greatly expanded, bc let’s face it, since it’s all included for the same price, let it rip! I still have real comics I’ve collected, but the Marvel app is like the addiction that once you start, your down for lifetime bc there is NO way your giving this up once you have a taste! The depth and availability of old school up to present is freaky and overwhelming. I’ve read 100s of awesome reads and haven’t even dented the availability of what I want to read. They just put to many cool new ones every week that ya just can’t resist. Anyway, this is a no brainer, go for it, but don’t say I didn’t warn you about staying up to late comic binging!
Version 7.1, now viewing issues in series shows fewer covers per page, lots of dead space. UPADTE 3: Even in Version 7.7, Still do not have the history of the (hundreds!) of issues I have read over the years. UPDATE 2: Just got a response to my post asking me to contact customer support. I did that last week and have gotten no response. WTH guys? Get it back together. It was a very good product until the update about 2 months ago. UPDATE: latest updates still do not fix these problems. Lost my reading history! While the start up screen fills the screen with issue covers, this function has been stripped for when you view by series, mostly dead black space now, MUCH harder to scroll through tissues. Did I mention I LOST MY ENTIRE READING HISTORY? That is a HUGE deal. ORIGINAL REVIEW WHEN UPDATE CAME OUT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. Version 7.1 inexplicably changed, in a major downgrade, the ability the view all issues in the series. Had always been there were tiles of the issue covers, maybe a dozen per screen, so you could easily brows through to find something, and see with a simple, clear demarkation, whether you had previously read the issue. Now, only one issue cover per line, and a blank dead space from the cover to the end of the screen. Most of the screen is now dead black space where issue covers had flowed, and the demarcation of whether you have viewed the issue before is more difficult to see. Baffling change. Otherwise love, love, love the app, and have since it first came out.
Great, if buggy and needing some features. I love the subscription. Having access to the majority of the Marvel catalogue is amazing. I’ve been able to read and reread favorite comics and runs, a number of events are much easier to read through, and going back to the older issues has been a blast. I am going through the entire Amazing and Spectacular Spider-Man catalogue, which has been phenomenal. I don’t understand why making and sharing reading lists is not included. This would be an amazing way to engage the community and outsource the work of getting their reading lists and catalogues that aren’t completed more accessible. I’d love to see Max incorporated along with some sort of parental/content preference features. Unfortunately there is very little in the way of offline mode. You must be connected to the internet to access the app, which is fine, except for when I’d like to be able to read while I’m traveling or camping. I find that the app has pretty significant connectivity issues. It ‘forgets’ my subscription once or twice a week and I have to log in each time. It’s not the end of the world, but it is an annoyance.
AMAZING. I came with a newfound marvel interest in the comics from Marvel Rivals (game). I stayed because of how AMAZINGLY organized and well put this app is. I’ve always been so overwhelmed with the multiverse or how many arcs are moving and a part of what universe. This app has a handy section that lets you see critical series events related to a hero or villain you select. Just search and swipe. Bookmark and continue. It’s absolutely amazing and reminds me of my childhood long before there were smoke shops and vape shops there were comic shops. I miss those days and this app brings a little piece of that back to me. I can’t even put into words how awesome the box by box feature is in the comic reader. The ability to navigate by box changes my entire comic world. Reading on pdf was a hassle or on many other apps in the past. But now it feels like an experience. The automated dynamic zooms add so much value to my reading experience I’m really glad I found this app! I would like to see sound teams hop into the mix and provide sound cues related to some comics triggering on the box by box change. This could really make for a unique age and era in comics. A cinematically engaging read.
Close to perfect for a marvel fan, misses the mark. I am a lifelong Marvel fan nearing the end of my first year subscribing to Marvel Unlimited. While the opportunity to access MUs vast library in an instant is worth the price of subscription, the functionality of the app often leaves me frustrated and stops me from reading comics in the app. The search feature is not intuitive and often requires several tries to successfully search for a certain title (even if you know exactly what title you are looking for), and the ‘download offline’ and ‘mark as read’ features only work 50% of the time, displaying an error message and causing me to lose my comic the rest of the time. While I absolutely love the Marvel content ecosystem (film and tv, comics, podcasts), and the Marvel Unlimited membership benefits such as earning and redeeming points, I find the process of reading comics on the Marvel Unlimited app unnecessarily difficult and cumbersome. I still use the old Marvel digital comics app and prefer its functionality and ability to download comics offline, but I wish the Marvel Unlimited library/subscription was as easy to use and navigate. There are so many benefits of the Marvel Unlimited platform and subscription, but I know that almost every time I sit down to read a comic, something goes wrong in the app that takes me out of the experience. I have the most recently updated app and recent iPhone and iPad devices, so the technical issues aren’t on my end (and if you don’t have an iPad or comparable tablet, don’t bother with Marvel Unlimited! Mobile is too small to navigate comics and reading on the website is a headache!) I love reading Marvel comics and the features of the MU app are great, but until I am able to consistently use them without error messages or app crashes, Marvel Unlimited is not my go to way to read comics. This is a great product and I wish the developers the best of luck in working out these technical issues.
Perfect for Marvel Fans. I got this app after receiving a free month trial from racking up Insider points and haven’t left since. I love that this app has virtually every comic and storyline available and has comprehensive reading guides for all the different events and arcs I want to know more about. I only have two minor concerns with the app: First, I wish there as a way to seamlessly swipe between pages within the app such as if I’m viewing a comic but want to go back to the series, it would be more convenient to swipe rather than to find the back arrow and select the small circle. It is not a noticeable problem, except whenever I try swiping but realize that’s not yet a function. I will say that swiping between pages within a comic is effortless, especially when viewing panel by panel. My only other concern specifically involves the recent X-Men storylines. Currently the major X-Men eras (Dawn, Reign, and Destiny of X) are collected in one reading guide, but are organized by individual runs. I have preferred reading the comics in release order, akin to the way they are collected in the anthology TPBs. I wish there was a way to select the comic appearing next as the one released next (as listed in the back of each issue’s checklist). Adding this function would make some cohesive sense with the way the comic runs can overlap and reference events from a book that has already been release, but you might not have read. Overall I love using this app and have developed a new appreciation for binging series and discovering where the inspiration for my favorite MCU projects hails from. To anyone interested in beginning to read comics I would highly recommend this app as well as to anyone who is already a physical comics collector. Five out of five stars is an easy choice.
Pretty impressed. I’m a fairly big nerd with all things comics and the MCU. My son and I recently started actually going to the local comic shops and getting some books. I still prefer physical copies I find it just a little easier to read and easier to enjoy the art. That being said though if you have ever gone to a comic shop then you know you can’t always find exactly what you want or you’ll find books 1,2,5,7,9 or you’ll have to buy the trade books. This app makes it nice to just be able to quickly find a run you want to read and get into it. I will say viewing the app on a phone is serviceable but to really enjoy it you need a tablet or computer so you can get full pages and actually be able to read it kinda just like paper form. Now to say I know every single comic ever made is a lie I truly only know the major runs and then some of the secondary stuff but I’ve been able to find mostly anything I want to read. I’m sure a purist would argue that there is a lot of issues missing because they are collectible or whatever and I’m sure that’s the case BUT if you just want to read some of the major stores the movies are based off of or you just really want to get into a certain character you can 100% do that with this app and then worst case you go to the local comic shop and see if they can get what you want. All and all I’m giving it a 5 star because it’s kept me and my son entertained now for a bit and I haven’t had any app issues to speak of either so not sure I could ask for more. Forgot to mention value…seeing as how the last time we went to the comic store I dropped $125 on a stack of books I’d say this is already worth the value. $120/year opposed to $125 for a handful of books I mean…yeah good deal in my opinion.
I feel like I'm writing in.... Dear Marvel, I love the Marvel Unlimited app, it is probably one of the most used apps on my iPad and allows me to follow along with the amazing podcast "Rachel and Miles X-Plain the X-Men" (I am merely a listener, but they deserve a shout-out). I love that I have access to almost all of the comics in the Marvel Universe and that there are always new things to discover in the app through the storefront's curated suggestions. I could possibly live 4 lifetimes and not read all of the comics that I wanted. There are a couple of things that I would like to see. With some of the events, especially the ones spanning different comics, I would love to see the ability to "subscribe" to them and just get the next issue automatically downloaded to my device when I am done with the previous. I would love to see that functionality throughout, although I will say that you have done a bang-up job on the last update, it can even remember the page I'm on! Keep up the great work! It is the most satisfying $9.99 I spend every month! Stuart
Good, needs custom reading lists and history changes. I love that marvel unlimited is available with sooooo many titles to look through, however, it is lacking some basic features that would greatly improve the reading and organization experience. You cannot sort runs or single issues into custom reading lists which makes reading things like x men in the 90s very difficult due to needing to jump between issues. This is a feature that fans have been requesting of this app for over a decade now, and having been and on and off subscriber for that long, it feels like a failure on behalf of the app developers. Additionally, the reading history only catalogs issues you are currently reading and not ones that you have finished, I would like to scroll back through and also see runs and issues that I have finished without having to go to the specific run page. Quality of life features like this would make unlimited stand out better among other comic subscription apps, as it is it feels as if Marvel does not care enough about comic fans to implement such basic features.
Used to absolutely love this app. I used to absolutely love this app, but it has become increasingly difficult to use since the newest update. First, I had to spend an hour removing books that I had read and removed weeks and months ago. Then, I had to go through the books to see which ones I had already read, because the “read” marking was gone. The library is hard to go through because it now forces the books into series, instead of allowing you to use the grid showing you all of your books in chronological order. I like the idea of following a series, but it is not greatly implemented. I would rather a “pull list” that automatically adds the new issue of a series into your library. I think my final complaint would be for after you finish a comic. It used to give you the option to remove it from your library and then either continue or exit back to your library. Now it is a couple of more clicks to exit the book, remove from library, exit to the series view, and then back out to your library. I can understand trying to make it look more modern, but when functionality goes down, it’s not worth it.
Eh. I’ve been using this app for like 2 months now and it’s been working pretty well with minimal issues and there’s a ton of comics so range isn’t the problem the app itself is like it forgets I’m subscribed and my whole library is randomly erased and then the whole reason I’m writing this review is because I’ve been unable to log into my account for like two weeks now and I uninstalled then reinstalled after a day hoping it would resolve itself but it didn’t it’s the same issue of being unable to log into my account because it’s apparently “registered to another email.” But there’s no way that’s true because my Apple ID used the same email I used to register my account and buy the subscription through the AppStore with and it just keeps saying that I have another email when I only have one email linked to these specific accounts and apparently this has been an issue for users going on like 5 years at least from what I’ve seen on Reddit so it would be really nice for this to be finally resolved!
Awesome. Marvel Unlimited is absolutely Amazing, Fantastic, Uncanny like the the X-Men. I collected and read a lot great Marvel Comics in my youth. Wolverine and the X-Men were favorite long before the movies. I loved many many other characters too. But as I got older I went to college, got married and had a job and mortgage. I got away from reading comics. But I still had my collection and still went to the movies. About a year ago I started going through my collection and re- organizing it. As I went to the local comic book store for supplies. I bought a couple of comics and I got back into it. But I also realized a lot has change. A lot stories and events took place that I knew nothing about. I couldn’t go out and buy 20 years worth of back issues to catch up. But then I saw this App. I subscribed to it and WOW WOW WOW. It’s like winning the comic book lottery so many stories at my fingertips. This is a great way for me to catch up on all favorite comics and reread some old favorites of mine. I can’t ever get bored because there will always be a story to read. Thank You Marvel.
Makes reading all the events a dream!. Before getting this app, I was planning on buying all the individual TPBs of all the best Marvel events from the Dark Phoenix Saga to Civil War. Buying all of those would have been hundreds if not thousands of dollars. With this app and a subscription of $10 a month, I can read as much as I want. I can read all the events plus all the individual issues from my favorite series and discover new ones. Reading on my iPad is a dream. All the pages are crisp and vibrant. Reading older comics never looked so good, not even when originally published. The app runs well and I’ve had no issues with it. You can search by series, keyword, creator, etc, and create reading libraries to keep track of what you are reading. I’m grateful that this app exists for Marvel and wish DC and Image would do something similar. Either way, this is a great app that allows me to read whatever I want for a small monthly fee. It doesn’t get better than that.
Marvel Comic Collection you can carry everywhere.. One of those Apps that your tablet needs by default. Like a word processor, Netflix’s and iMusic. If you have ever collected comics at all. This app save me hundreds/thousands of dollars a year on comics books. I would have to read my comics carefully to keep them mint. Most runs I would only read once then bag and board them. Then sort them in my long boxes. After time they take up half a closet and become a heavy pain to drag around rest of your life. 🤕Donate your comics to a children’s hospital🏩 ⭐️⭐️⭐️Haveing this App has let me do good and liberated half a closet space from 18 long heavy boxes. Pulled the comics with value, favorite story arcs & runs didn’t have the trade. Kept most issues from 85’ ‘86’. Year I started reading and collecting comics. Mother friend would visit me “my mother” when I spent few weeks in the hospital. She would come with all the super heroes. I remember really liking Gi Joe, Groo and Spider Man. About 85% was left over. I thought the best place they could do lots of good. Hopefully open some young minds deep into the world of Marvel superhero’s and friends. The Children’s Hospital is where they found a new home. I was pleased to see they already had a strong collection. There are plenty of older kids and teens that are just in bed with time to read. Nothing helps you heal when you’re reading comics books⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great app. Needs improvement. Its kinda weird how much content is on here, the UI looks good, but yet it feels like a beta app. Flipping pages is a pain, i have to reorient my phone just to go to next page. It is very frustrating when you “mark as read” a whole run, but it doesnt save. Why have a function in the app that does not work? Also, i shouldnt have to select each comic; make it like browsing your photos in your phone, add a select button and allow us to click multiple issues to mark all at once. Hopefully the Dec updates will fix some stuff, but the reading experience is not fun. The content is fine, although yall need to get some kinda license deal with Conan, especially since its now 616, I already cant read Savage Avengers and then they write him into King in Black spin off. C’mon. If u have bad licensing with characters, dont put them in 616 content. I know thats not a problem relevant to the software of the app and more of a writer studio problem, but still a problem you will experience if you want to read everything in main continuity on this app. I just wish that software developers actually used the apps they make. Like regular-people-use. Have one of your guys spend a day reading comics in the app. You will see all the problems that make this app less enjoyable. That being said, still one of my favorite apps. thank u, keep up the good work.
This is a good app that can be better. My problems with this app come from mostly a UI perspective. If I search for something like Amazing Spider-Man, there are dozens of hits and no way to sort them. The top 3 results as of the time of writing this are 2 facsimile editions (which are cool, but why have that and the regular version) as well as the current ASM. The original ASM series I was looking for was number 37 on the results list. Thirty Seven. This is a very poor way of doing this and a overall frustrating experience. Another thing this app desperately needs is to link the end of a book to the next part in the story, not just the next issue. Marvel pushes way too many cross title crossovers and it is frustrating to have to search for the next book (see reasons stated above) to continue what should be easily available with the technology we have today. I have been using this app off and on since it’s first release, but really feel like there needs to be sometime and energy put it and thought for how it used.
Great until the latest update. I’ve been a subscriber to MU for just under 3 years. It has been amazing saving money and shelf space being able to read thousands of Marvel comics. A couple weeks ago, a new update dropped that changed pretty much everything. While the app looks and handles better, it introduced a lot of bugs. Over time these have gotten fixed, that’s not what I’m mad about. See, there is a tab in the app called “Continue Reading” and it used to keep track of all the series you were in the middle of, like the way streaming services do. If you finished an issue, the next issue would pop up in Continue Reading, making it easy to read multiple series at once (especially useful for events that take place over multiple series). The new update neutered Continue Reading, the tab now only keeps track of a single issue you are reading, not the whole series. I thought this was a bug, but contacting support told me that this is the intended way for it to work. This is a major step backwards, as series hopping is incredibly difficult. You could use the library feature as a sort of Continue Reading, but that really floods the library that I use as a list of series I would like to read later. All of MU’s competitors have the same Continue Reading feature that MU used to have, and now the app is a slog to use. I am going to keep this in mind in a few months when it comes time to renew.
UI Is Awful For the Price. The concept is great but the UI is terrible. The app is buggy. Right now it crashes immediately when I open it. Search is extremely limited and not smart. Finding some comics is an absolute pain. The smart panels don’t always crop properly on all comics and there have been multiple books that the feature wasn’t even worth trying. Though when the feature does work it is excellent. There should be better reading guides available for specific characters or stories you want to follow. It takes so many taps to get to certain places in the app, the UI as a whole is just slow and outdated. It should be much easier to quickly navigate through different comics, issues, and get in and out of certain books. If you have an issue already open it is Ana solute pain to navigate to a different issue unless you go back through the search or you have to swipe through to the end of that issue - neither of which is convenient. There should also be easier ways to search new releases and upcoming releases and news. Maybe this is harsh but a company this big having an app like this with such a steep monthly price is a joke. Gave it a 2-star solely because it’s nice to have my comics all in one place and the idea is great. But it really needs some work.
Slightly better, and yet completely broken. The quick and easy A-Z list of titles is gone, the new search function is a headache because series, characters, writers, and reading lists will ALL show up in the results in mixed order, you can’t filter by month/year anymore which was the main way I used to find what I was looking for, you can’t filter by read/not read anymore and “read” badges are gone entirely, though i suppose it doesn’t matter because my read history is completely wiped. The comic issues are no longer presented in a simple grid of covers anymore, but awkwardly spaced out vertically, so you have to scroll through them, and there’s a ton of unused space off to the right, so finding the issue you want in a series with lots of issues (such as Avengers vol 1) takes a lot more scrolling than it used to. Also, downloading/adding to library takes extra clicks, when there used to be big and clear buttons for these features. Certain bugs that had riddled the previous app design for years are now gone… in favor of new bugs that are even more intrusive, such as the “sort by” function in downloads randomly reverting back to “Download Date: Newest First” right as you click on an issue, taking you to an issue you didn’t intend to click on. I will give these bugs the benefit of the doubt as this iteration of the app is brand new and might get ironed out soon, but… the rest of my complaints still stand. What’s funny is that the app actually runs smoother overall for me than the old design, the app loads up quicker and downloads are faster, but what good is that when the overall functionality is botched?
Great app with lots of content, but recent major update brings it down. I’ve been subscribed to Unlimited for a few years now and I’ve always loved the interface of the old app. Everything was simple and easy to navigate, particularly if you wanted to read a massive event in the correct order. With the most recent “Infinity” update, this has been removed. Although you can still see all included comics in events such as “House of M”, they are no longer numbered in reading order. Small detail that helped me stay on track while I read all comics in one event. Another small issue is that now when I read comics in any mode, the time/date and white swipe bar are displayed at ALL times. On iOS with the old app, this was never a problem as they simply disappeared after a second. Just to reiterate, these are small issues that I’m assuming will get ironed out in future updates. At the same time, these should have been taken care of before releasing the update. Despite that, I still love Unlimited and the content it brings. Having original issues all the way up to current ones is great, and the exclusive content is always welcome. I’d rate the app 5 stars before the update, but until they can correct some of these problems, I believe its a solid 3 stars.
so convenient!!!. I’ve been reading Marvel comics for a few years now, and buying volumes of titles featuring my faves was creating a dent in my pocket, especially since the series I like aren’t as popular or available. Getting Marvel Unlimited absolutely saved me, and fed my craving for Young Avengers and Runaways comics, and even introduced me to new titles like Avengers Academy. It has literally everything, with few exceptions. They are constantly adding new and old releases. Along with trips to my local comic store for the latest comics I just can’t wait to pick up, it is super affordable and convenient. I do have 1 complaint and 1 suggestion. First off, why is Rainbow Rowell’s Runaways #32 missing? While it isn’t a super important issue, it was still kinda bothering me that one random comic in the series was missing. Thankfully, my local comic store had one on hand so I could read it. Secondly, it’d be awesome if you could see your recent searches. It would be a lot easier than searching for the same title 5 times!
New update is a mixed bag *Edited*. Edit: They’ve been listening and have slowly added a lot of the features that the fans have wanted. It’s also proven to be a lot more stable. There are still some bugs, but overall I’m impressed with how they’ve been listening and updating. Just…please don’t go backwards on a major update again. While the new update does some things I like, such as unlimited offline downloads, it does way more wrong. Your downloads page is buggy if you filter on anything other than “Most recent”, the viewer doesn’t seem to work well in horizontal mode on tablets, and they actually took a lot of functionality away from searching for the comics, such as search by publication date. For those of us who like to follow a character or team from the beginning, and see how they cross over to other titles along the way, this update really killed our experience. Here’s hoping a patch is made quickly, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Great, but could be better. Overall great app. Not much bad to say. But I have a few crituiques. One thing is the smart panel. Its a really useful function, especially because I have trouble reading smaller words, but it can be a but glitchy at times, but not enough to drive me away from the function. Also, one really important thing I haven’t seen added yet is for each character, when you click on it to see their comics, there is no “Search by chronological order” filter. This could be really useful. For example, I was trying to read on the scarlet spider, but I kept getting confused because at times I would end up accidentally reading a different story. Don’t know if thats just me though. They should add either a “Search by chronological order” Or a “Search by sub story”, where the sub story would be different multi-comic in groups and you can search through them. Most beneficial in chronological order. Other than that it’s a great app. Definitely would recommend.
Canceled Subscription. Like many of us have already said, the app has gone severely downhill since the launch of the revamp. I used to read comics using this app every day and the search by publication date feature was a godsend, but now I can’t properly navigate the selection of comics and it’s made me completely stop using the app. I anxiously await the update where the search by publication date feature is added, but until then I have canceled my subscription as I, sadly, see no reason to keep it. Edit: They finally brought back the feature we all wanted! I am now subscribed again and, boy, does it feel good! Thanks Marvel! I am, however, somewhat disappointed that this was an issue in the first place as there really was no need to remove it altogether. I would also really like if we were able to see the issues we completed upon first glance. Scrolling throughout so many issues and not being able to tell which issues I’ve read without actually clicking on them is annoying and, if I’m not mistaken, was in the older versions.
Best subscription ever!. I’ve written a review for this app Notre but I’ve gotten nothing but praise and even more to say. Marvel unlimited is truly incredible and makes me excited every time I open it. This subscription has grown and developed so much ever since it started and it’s truly something to “Marvel” at! For those unaware originally there was a 6 month gap between current volumes being updated now it’s only 3?! Amazing and the implementation of infinity comics is ingenious! The fact that we get brand new volumes weekly is such a treat for a marvel fanboy like myself although I’m not quite used to the vertical format yet but it’s certainly not bad either. The only thing I’d still change is re-implementing numbers by the reading lists to assure comics aren’t read out of order and maybe a more extensive database about characters, groups, and events would make this app even more perfect! Otherwise I’ve got no other critique and can’t stress enough how great it is if the developers see this just know you’ve created something wonderful that I genuinely cherish. Excelsior!
Unable to access. As of right now, I cannot access the app. Every time I try to login, I get a network error. I’ve tried to reinstall the app. I’ve tried to cancel and renew my subscription. Nothing works. I’ve tried to go through customer support, and they responded to me once and said they cannot locate my account. I responded with my details to verify, but it’s been almost a week and I’ve still heard nothing. At this point, I’ve been about 2 weeks into a subscription that I’ve paid for, and have not been able to use the app at all. Basically, I cannot judge whether this app is good or not because I cannot get pass the login screen. I don’t know if this is an issue with the app, my account, or what. What I do know is that I’ve been charged for something that I cannot access. I’ll gladly update this review if the issue gets solved. However, if I get to the point where I have to renew my account, I won’t be doing so as I will already be out an entire month of wasted money.
It’s fantastic.. I have always been a comic book fan. However I live in a rural place, and there were never any places to buy comic books of any kind growing up. Having this app and being able to read all the stories I wanted to is perfect. Curated lists of things like universe spanning events make this app easy to use. A library of over 25k comics would be daunting if it weren’t so organized. If you find an art style or writer you like you can find all their past works in Marvel. The cell by cell reading is great on a phone and even on unconventional frames it scrolls through the dialogue and action in the order it was meant to be. For the most part. Occasionally there will be a place where if you don’t zoom out you may have missed a text box. It is still being updated and curated weekly with newer and old issues. If I had bought these comics new or even secondhand I would have spent a few thousand dollars on all I’ve read, for a fraction of the cost. Well worth it in my opinion.
Return to four stars. UPDATE 10/28 back up to four stars after latest update fixed most of the major bugs, especially the annoying sorting issues. Would still like to see some of the earlier functionality restored, such as the ability to browse with A-to-Z listings of characters and series, as well as the ability to search by publication month. The unlimited downloads, however, easily outweigh any of these minor inconveniences. UPDATE: Even more problems with the new app. How much functionality had been lost? Doesn’t remember where I left off in a comic I’m reading. Sorting still completely broken. Can’t search by month, which is essential for catching up on years of comics. I hope the cancel auto-renew function still works! Horrible update. One star added for unlimited downloads otherwise would have been one. Doesn’t really help, though, if none of the downloaded comics are the right ones when I click on them. Somehow they’re all jumbled so when I click on a downloaded issue to read, one of my other downloads opens instead. Sorting is completely botched as well. I always sort oldest publication to newest in my downloads, but each time I go back to select another issue it’s resorted itself. Like others, seriously considering canceling auto-renew until a MAJOR update fixes things. Does anyone there QC these updates before they’re released into the wild?
Bring back search by publication date. I have been a MU subscriber for many years and this latest update got rid of the best feature IMO of being able to search by publication date. I was reading all of the books chronologically and the search by publication allowed me to find every comic published in a year and now I see zero way to do that easily. You’ve made the app unusable for me now. Will be canceling if that feature is not restored soon. **Update** Marvel still has not restored some of the most basic functionality of their app that once made it good, and now they’ve axed my subscription one month early, even though I was given a free month because of this poor release that is still unusable for me. Marvel’s suggestion that you can sort by publication date inside a series is laughable and does no good whatsoever. *** UPDATE *** Marvel has in fact added back the search by publication date, but it was done incredibly poorly and I have already submitted a ticket to support with the two most glaring issues along with more scathing criticism of their overall poor development of this new app. Oh, and this latest update once again wiped out my reading history that I had been painstakingly attempting to restore. Still 1-star! Mighty Marvel indeed!
New Update Is Still A Downgrade. The new update that was released last week was more of a downgrade than an upgrade. It removed many series from my “Continue Reading” list and removed all of my pinned reading guides as well. The new “Infinity Comics” aren’t that great either and are clearly made for iPhones and don’t translate well to the iPad app. It’s also much harder to browse titles now too because of the time it takes to scroll past preview images combined with no alphabet along the right hand side to let you instantly scroll to a certain letter. Overall I’m not really impressed with the update. Update: About half of my series have returned to the “Continue Reading” section but my pinned guides are still gone. Most recent update also has a weird glitch where the time and battery bar at the top ever fade away and the menu when you tap the middle of the screen and can exit a book or change the settings keeps appearing at random for no reason. Sometimes it’ll just toggle on and off repeatedly and the only way to fix is to restart app. The old app worked great and I don’t understand why they had to change it.
Great app, flawless reading experience. So glad I subscribed to Marvel Unlimited, I’ve been able to read runs and issues that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to read. Events I’ve missed, series I never knew about and discovering more characters and unique stories with the infinity comics. The only thing holding this back from a 5 star rating is that I think it needs some sort of community or social aspect to it. Comics are supposed to be shared and enjoyed with others but with the rise of digital comics I feel like that’s harder to do. If there was something like adding friends or public reading lists (think kind of like a public playlist) or anything to connect readers. Even something like expanded letters sections for digital or being able to send letters from the app all to create and foster a new digital community to share the experience of the huge library of titles. I know that’s easier said than done but just my opinion. I love all the work that goes into making the reading experience seamless and making the subscription worthwhile with exclusive content and the entire marvel catalog.
Needs an functional overhaul. The functionality of the app is not user-friendly whatsoever. It's incredibly frustrating to navigate and use There's an annoying problem with the vertical ellipses not having any hit box whatsoever. Anytime you don't tap perfectly on the three dots to download or check a series, it opens the comic. Then it puts it on your "continue reading" list, and if it happens a bunch of times your comic that you were reading gets buried in that list. There is one teeny tiny area to exit out of each comic. The x in the corner of the screen is very small, also with no hitbox. So if you don't tap it perfectly, it just keeps scrolling you back through the pages you've already read instead of exiting the comic. It makes it a real pain when you're scrolling through trying to download a handful that you like. Also every time I tap away from a screen full of comics that I'm looking through to download, and I come back to the app it defaults all the way back to the very top of the list, which can take a long time to scroll back down through if you're trying to get any long running series so you can read them. There should really be an option for swiping the screen to turn pages. Apple Books has had this forever. It would make the app a lot more user-friendly instead of tapping to the next page any time you accidentally hit the screen in the middle of reading. My main point overall is I pay money for this subscription, it shouldn't be this frustrating to just sit and read comics .
Great but needs basic fixes. I love it but holy crud I hate it. This latest update makes searching and navigation even worse. The ‘Continue Reading’ section can’t even track the issues I’m currently reading, instead showing a random smattering of past issues. I have to go searching just to finish what I was reading. Massive Marvel library. So frustrating to use. Crashes, freezes, issues take several attempts to load. Seriously sometimes takes 20 minutes for an issue to load successfully. Why can’t I preview a cover image? Sometimes I don’t want to load an issue (thereby adding it to my ‘reading now’ list, bumping something worthwhile off of it). I just want a peak at the cover to gauge my interest. Why are the assistant editors and letterers listed in issue info, but often not the writer and artist? I want to know the MAIN creators when I’m looking for something interesting. Kill Bill stars Uma Thurman in a movie by Quentin Tarantino. No one cares who catered it. Search function often crashes the app. Try the same search again and it does the same thing. I really really want to love this app. It needs so much help.
I would call this a regression. Guys, the new version of the app is close to unusable. No browse means I have no idea what’s available, which means the depth of the catalog is unknown to me. This means I read the three or four titles I know of, then cancel my subscription. Search (and frankly the Home page) aren’t as good a mechanism for discovery, finding new titles that I’ll stumble on and want to try. Yes, the old browse was text based and not visual, but even so, it was more efficient to find stuff then anything in the new iteration of the app. Best would be browse with both images and text. The search feature is single item scroll, which is bad UX b/c it takes forever to reach anything at the end (even if I reverse the sort, it takes forever to reach the middle). As an example, if I go into Series and sort A-Z, it took me 83 medium swipes to get to the M titles. So actually, the Series section *is* actually close to a Browse, but 1) single item scroll is inefficient (and you’re not even making use of the rest of the horizontal space! Criminal) and 2) there’s no right hand side alphabet jump list for me to skip the A-L if I want to get to M titles quickly. The good news is that you did speed stuff up, so maybe this is just the first working version of a necessary technical refactor, and you’ll bring the app back to feature parity with its old incarnation. I sure hope so, because I loved discovering comics in this app before. As it stands now, I’m gonna catch up on my favorites and then split.
Beware of unsolicited charges.. I had an annual renewal set up which I canceled quite a long time ago. I never signed up for a monthly renewal. I never requested services or products and I never agreed to this charge. Per your terms and conditions are you in the business of charging people without their knowledge? I did access the app and look around, perhaps this sparked some kind of unnotified renewal but at no point did I request or agree to any form of subscription or payment. This in conjunction with the fact that you are telling me that the money which was taken without my consent cannot be returned appears to be quite predatory. Had I renewed and changed my mind, your terms and conditions would make sence. However this charge was made without and action or notification on my part therefore I believe that in this case the terms and conditions are not applicable. Marvel unlimited. Marvel unlimited is great though I had some troubles with logging in yesterday it is still great and I recommend to anyone new or experienced with comics
beware !!! terrible support !!! took my money and can’t login. I enjoyed the free trial and subscribed, then had an error and had to reinstall the app, after that it would not let me login, kept throwing errors and telling me to contact Marvel customer support who just bounced me around with zero outcome and finally to technical support who didn’t get back to me and after a week closed my ticket! Unbelievable....! I’m just shocked at how they can consider this is acceptable customer service. When you pay for a product you expect to get it right? Well not for Marvel - I just want a refund and to run a mile away from this horrible experience - beware - don’t subscribe!!!!
A one stop shop !. All your favourite comics in one easy to access app… so much better then having boxes and boxes of comics filling up space in my apartment
I enjoy it but have one suggestion.. I’m a bad reader and would think that having a text to speech option for the comics would really help me enjoy them more than needing to get my mum or support worker to help me read it otherwise it’s a very good way for me to enjoy comics
New update broke simple parts of the app. You can no longer pinch zoom and turn the pages at the same time. You can also no longer pinch zoom in horizontal orientation in the tops and bottoms of pages properly. Viewing a next page in horizontal mode gives you giant black bars on the top and bottom. These bars have to be manually navigated. Overall the new unlimited download is great but I’m still unable to sync an iOS account to an email on another app… Given Disney now owns marvel it’d be nice to see them actually try to get the basics right before moving onto anything else.
Great, but I want one thing. Love the app I think it’s possibly a bit expensive for the sub but there’s a 7-day trial and discounts being offered from time to time. 🚨 - My main thing is unless I’m not seeing it I wish there was a way to like/dislike series or even rate similar to Letterboxd, you can track for new issues and add to library but I feel there could be more done in that space. 🤞 - Another thing would to possibly have a profile design where you could put in some of your favourite comics maybe open up the possibility to chat with other users heaps of things when it comes to the online space. Like I say the app is awesome if you can get past the fee which let’s be honest you’re likely to spend more on physical copies in a month if you were keeping up with a line anyway. 👍
Great way to read comics. This app has come a long way I’m 6 years and the subscription is great value. Well worth the cost if you have any interest in comics.
Great. Able to ready any marvel comic I can think of anyway. Even nice to download them to read while not having internet
A bit buggy. A bit buggy when using the ‘auto-focus’ or whatever it is on the pages. But other than that, ginormous range of great comics.
Black missing pages. I love the idea and think the price is very reasonable but it is so frustrating when you're trying to read a comic and a few of the pages are just black. This coupled with the unintuitive controls leave me tapping aimlessly at a black screen. Please fix this I have to know what happens next in Doctor Strange.
Most recent update a disaster. So I’ve been using the app along with other comic reading apps and everything has been fine. Since the recent update however, my comics continually lock up, the app crashes, it changes panels slowly or displays incorrectly and overall the whole experience is worse. Please improve the stability of this app as I’m tired of my comics crashing my iPad and not remembering their page.
Fantastic. Only problems I’ve ever run into, is it can be a tad slow, and buggy at times. Overall it’s great, highly recommend, easily worth the price.
Seamless and easy to use. I thought I would hate reading comics on my phone but one day in and I’ve already read about 10 of them. The UI is great and easy to use. There are a few minor issues with loading taking a while but that could easily be my phone. So much choice though. Loving it!
Absolute worst UI. -no easy to read specific series/story arc -no mass select for adding comics to library -no mass selection for downloading series or even 5,10, or 15 at a time -no mass selection for deletion if you have manually added comics -no way to edit what information is shown when trying to filter through publication date or author Such a terribly managed app that simply makes it a frustrating experience to read comic. You start reading one but then close the app it doesn’t quickly take you back to that page when you reopen it. This app is something from 2013 and the UI needs an overhaul. Honestly this is the reason people pirate this stuff because then they can sort and manage it themselves. How can basic html5 websites create better experience from basement coders than firstparty devs of a Billion dollar company. Such a joke.
Absolutely incredible experience. It’s a very easy to use app with a very large collection of comics for every type of reader, and the price is quite good for such a wide variety of comics.
Serious Issue. Love the app so much but a lot of titles won’t appear in the app but say they are there on the website, Eg Maul black white and red and also Jango Fett 2024 only has one comic but it has a whole series on the website
New September update. I loved this app before, used it daily! The update has completely changed the my library section to the point where it seems unusable. I had it displayed in grid formation from oldest published to newest, and I added all comics to an event I wanted to read, which span across multiple titles and it would be in order. Now with the way it’s sorted on grouping all the issues together in lists, and the library doesn’t change the order you want permanently, it’s just too hard. If things don’t change shortly, I’ll unfortunately have to unsubscribe
GREAT CONTENT A FEW BUGS. I have loved this app for a long time and have been signing up since the release but I’ve just renewed my membership and just unable to load or download anything at the the moment hopefully issue fixed soon other that amazing work… PS some cross overs would be revolutionary Maybe a fan made app or website to suggest fan favourite content to crossover with
They have turned this service around!!. Since updating the app with necessary changes that fans were begging for, I can now fully recommend the app and subscription service. You can now add a series to your library much like ComiXology and DC Universe Unlimited and reading lists are comprehensive and make reading long crossovers easy. I’ll definitely be renewing for a year when my sub is up.
A great service with some UI issues. There's a staggering amount of content here for a pretty reasonable monthly fee, I'm not sure there's ever been a better deal than this for keeping up with Marvel's comics. However the app has some unfortunate UI quirks: on the iPad Pro I use to read comics, pages will frequently be "offset" to the right a bit when zooming in, cropping off the right edge of the current page. Additionally, the process of syncing comics to read offline is super tedious, requiring you to drill down to an issue's detail page to add or remove it, with no option to download multiple comics at once.
I miss old Marvel Comics app. It was just better. Smoother, easier to manage and navigate and crisper panel transitions. It also downloaded properly so I could read offline. Every time I try this with Marvel unlimited it stops loading the content after a few pages. I also hate that I can’t “archive” my purchased comics when I don’t care to keep them in my library. There are all these random one shots I wish I could make disappear. Subscription offers an amazing back catalogue, just wish it all functioned better.
Meh update. The new update seems to have fixed the comics not loading bug! But… now it’s harder to search for things. But the worst is the viewing. My eyes are no good so I zoom in on each page. When you zoom in now the image is centred, which means if you try and scroll around it snaps back to the middle of the page. It also doesn’t let you swipe to the next page while zoomed, you have to zoom back out, then swipe. The comics not loading is a great fix, but there seems to be a lot of functionality lost in the new update. I will pause my subscription until it’s fixed. Edit: Viewing issues seem to be fixed. Still no alphabet index search available. You start at A and have to manually scroll down. Similar issue when looking up a comic series. Start at the end of the beginning and scroll, load, scroll, load, scroll and so on. The weird thing is that this WAS feature in the old version.
Love it. Great way to easily catch up on all the marvel comics . It’s great that you can pick and choose what ever you feel like reading at the time .
UI is underbaked. I downloaded this app to check out the latest Star Wars comics, and found everything surrounding the reading experience to be hard to use. The Star Wars section is pretty well hidden, and there was no universal page of all the different universes under Marvel’s umbrella. Finding a good Star Wars comic involved searching and scrolling through a series of undifferentiated options (series, specials, unabridged, and guides should be easy to distinguish between). There’s no way to provide reviews/ratings, so the bad material is mixed with the good material. And I can’t find the option to unsubscribe when needed. I had to do it through the website, and even then I was pretty confused. Overall fine, but there are tons of improvements that could be made.
Subscription problems. I recently re subscribed to the app and have a receipt for it, but when I go to read a comic it tells me I gotta subscribe again!!! I’ve been reading Marvel comics for over 30 years but this has really turned me off having anything to do with it
Fancy a read. If you are planning on reading comics religiously then the price of the subscription is fair and reasonable Don’t get this app if you aren’t an avid fan
Eh…. Gonna be honest you guys updated something that didn’t get updated and you actually REMOVED some really great features like the A-Z wheel on the side of the search page and that fact that the search page never had to LOAD also it keeps kicking me to the top of the search whenever I’m waiting for it to load. Also why won’t the spinning wheel show up when a page is loading. It’s now pure darkness which means that I can’t tell if it’s just a black panel or if it is loading. Also I’m missing all of the comics I was in the middle of reading when it updated. Please just change it back. Also last thing, the old logo was better…
Great, but could be better. I have been using this app for almost 2 months now and i have read a great deal of comics and the way you can read cell by cell is so good for reading on a tiny screen, i have used other comic readers in the past dc and they didn’t have this option when i used it but it makes reading them so easy. Although i love reading the comics there are a few things that could really step it up. - automatically deleting downloaded comic books after you’ve read them - being able to have it automatically download comics in advance so that i don’t get the weird lag we’re it’s still downloading the next page and i end up 3-4 cells in - updating when it registers that you’ve read the comic because i have a few time hit on “continue reading” on a series to be taking back 20 or so issues and be on the last cell - general comic tracking such as issues read, most popular series your reading etc -I’m pretty sure the reading guides are curated by people but I’ve been reading the ultimate universe and i have to use an external site to tell me what to read next so i don’t to too far ahead in one series or miss out on the ultimates and ultimate specials
Now lost all access to my PURCHASED comics!. After stuffing us customers about for years and forcing us to use the Marvel Unlimited app to access our already paid for comics, the transition to having to use a Disney account now prevents me accessing those purchases entirely! My previous Marvel sign in details are not accepted. Very unhappy!
So many issues since moving off comixology. The arrogance of Marvel really gets me down sometimes. To be clear, I don’t mean the creatives behind their books, they do a terrific job. This is a complaint about Marvel Unlimited and the rigmarole Marvel puts you through when it fails. Having been told I have successfully redeemed codes it’s annoying as heck when the comics do not appear (bc it turns out the app’s internal calendar has got stuck). Now that’s working again and I have books appearing in weeks after the ‘problem’ purchases…so things are work again, but I’m still missing books. The solution from the support team is for me to send more photos of covers and interior pages and screen shots of the app (to show the comics not being available). Seriously? They aren’t there guys. I have several *thousand* digital comics dating back years. I do this every week. I know they’re not there. Most of the time Marvel Unlimited works as it should. But it’s when something goes awry that it’s a $h1tshow. Backend support is never, “oh let us fix that for you” and instead is always “please follow this protected process” … We spend so much money on these books! It would be nice, when these issues do occur, if you acknowledged your system didn’t like it’s meant to. And rather than asking us to waste time - offer to fix it at your end? Novel idea I know, but maybe try looking after the customer once in a while?
Awful resolution in 2024. I appreciate the need to balance file size for some users, but there is no excuse for the beautiful artwork of Marvel’s comics to be delivered in potato quality to paying customers. Give us the option of high resolution, make it a toggle to turn on. I’m on an 11” iPad Pro and pages look like a foot. I will not be renewing my annual subscription.
Servers. Great subscription especially for the price (although I would say you should put in new issues and not just wait the 6 months or whatever it is) but fix the the service and loading time I can’t even count how many times I’ve given up reading a comic because of the slow loading times it’s been like this for years please fix it! I would also say please add custom reading list or add a canonical order for a character you are reading , with all their team up and other side comics not just the main series so you don’t have to keep switching back and forth.
Love the app, but…. Can you please add a creation list like the app DC Infinite has. I would love to be able to create different comic lists for all the marvellous Super-hero’s you have and especially when you have Star Wars on here as-well. Instead of having to add a conglomeration of comics to my library and having to scroll through and find the series or issues of comics I want to read next.
Love Comics. i’ve never really been into reading but after getting into some comics, i just wanna read now. would recommend if you are a marvel fan. so much to discover.
Usually fantastic. When it’s working it’s fantastic, super easy to use and read and the images are fantastic quality. Sometimes however it will just stop loading the comic I’m reading
Please fix the app!!. This app was great, like many people I used it daily. This new update has made the app very difficult and clunky to use. I would like to be able to see each individual issue in my library and I would like to filter by year when searching for comics. I would also like the library to remember my filtering preferences in the library, i.e sorting it from oldest to newest I would like to be able to zoom in while reading The new major update was a great idea some things simply need to be tweaked to make it even better Thanks :))
Awesome app, poor customer assistance.. I absolutely cannot begin to describe how awesome this app is, I genuinly enjoyed using it however I will say, I do feel like the UI is a little all over the place, and somehow I’ve managed to accidentally deactivate my account and there is no way of contacting anyone to try and resolve the situation, even though it literally provides a link to “assist” when really all it does is just palm you off to the Disney webpage and doesn’t really provide any assistance with any problems with this specific app. That’s my only problem but other than that, really good app!!
Now the easiest at to read the classics!. It took a long time but after many updates, this app has really started to shine. I can now search through issues by publication date and save them to my library in a way where I can then read the classic issues from the 60’s to present day just like they released back then! I’m now really loving using the app and can wholeheartedly recommend it after all these years.
Good content, lacking in function. At such a good price for so many comics, Marvel Unlimited seems like a no-brainer. And while it is a great resource to read comics, there are so many annoying parts of this app that makes it incredibly not user-friendly. Firstly, the ‘continue reading’ tab only includes individual issues you’re part of the way through, meaning series that you’re reading but finished individual issues can be hard to find, all just to continue a series. The thousands of comics are incredibly overwhelming too, and the app does virtually nothing to help you find where to start. There’s a handful of guides to specific events but that’s pretty much it. When there’s been 50+ years of different runs and series that follow on or start anew, it’s very intimidating to even start reading your favourite hero. There aren’t any playlist functions, so the only way to save comics is either to put them in your library or download them, and when there’s 29,000 issues you might want to save, it can get very confusing very fast. Overall, I love the content, but the app’s layout and functions are severely lacking. I hope to see updates in the future that doesn’t alienate the fans that are willing to spend money monthly on these comics.
Review. It’s really good , it’s cheap and has all the comics you would need to read a series. If you press on the series too it will give you a full reading order so you won’t miss anything that happened. It’s also really easy to navigate you can just get the free 1 week trial and see for your self. How ever there’s some things I would like to be added in Marvel Unlimited such as a audio comic book and when there’s a fight scene I would like the screen to shake or something like that to really make me feel involved with it. I do think incorporating those ideas would further my experience.
Comics don’t load. I would love to give this app a higher rating. There’s heaps on there that I would like to read. But I paid for a yearly subscription and I can’t use it because any time I try to open a comic all I get is a blank page and the loading symbol. I can’t even download books for offline reading as that doesn’t work either. I see many others complaining about the same problem. How can you not fix such an integral issue?
Bad update. PLEASE ADD THE ABILITY TO TOGGLE BETWEEN SERIES VIEW AND ISSUE-BY-ISSUE VIEW!!!!!! Similar to some other people, I’m really not a fan of this new update. The most useful feature (to me that is) was the ability to sort all my comics issue by issue from oldest to newest. That way I was able to easily read several different comics at once and was particularly important for crossover events. So I say again, PLEASE ADD THE ABILITY TO TOGGLE BETWEEN SERIES VIEW AND ISSUE-BY-ISSUE VIEW!!!!!!
Grid view gone?. Please bring back grid view for library on iPad, a single list clearly designed for phone both looks awful and is way worse to use.
Awesome paid service , worth the price. Never read a comic in my life , and this has quickly become my favourite app , subscription price is fair enough , to have access to 1000s of greatly written and drawn comics , of famous characters and able to sit there and read and learn all about them , I found getting into comic books hard and overwhelming having no clue where to start , but this app made it very easy , by giving a great filter system , in the search menu , loved I could search any character and and find a whole profile dedicated to the character that highlights all comics they appear in , the character profiles also have a publish by date , so it makes it very easy to jump in from a the very first comic ever to write about the character , or to find out where a characters series has been rebooted , as some readers might find a starting a comic run that been going since the 80s like the amazing Spider-Man can be daunting to newbies and connecting all the Crossover etc , also love the events section, awesome app , great features , highly recommended
Seriously?. A new update has resulted in a total overhaul in appearance and it has ruined the app. They have sacrificed functionality for pretty graphics and layouts. Not only can I not read comics properly because they load differently, but worst of all what I have read over the last 5 years as a subscriber is no longer tagged as being previously read. Lastly, you can no longer scroll through a text list of series, selecting a letter of the alphabet as a shortcut, no now they have added a cover to each series and removed the alphabet, making it constantly need to load and therefore takes forever to scroll down past the letter B. I want the old version back. This one is really useless and as someone who pays a yearly subscription fee and finishes every night in bed with this app, I’m really disappointed.
SCAM free trial. Free Marvel Unlimited trial is a SCAM and DODGY. Impossible to cancel the subscription - kept being redirected around in circles on the webpages until I reached out to customer service who said the “issue” was resolved, aka “we’ll unblock this digital merry go round” to allow you to get to the page you’re LEGALLY allowed to get to. Wouldn’t have started a trial if I realised it wasn’t free at all because by the time we fixed this they’d taken subscription money. So unprofessional, Disney. Take a page out of Amazon’s book and make cancellation EASY and LEGAL.
Just a poorly written review. There’s so many books to read on here that it’s definitely worth the price tag. My only problem is that sometimes the app crashes or needs me to sign in again. But that’s not really an issue if you remember your password.
Constant restore subscription. I love this app and use it almost daily however multiple times a week I need to restore my subscription and I lose the comics I have been reading from my most recent section everytime this happens and I have to search for them again. This has been happening for a few months now and ifs very annoying. Is this a known issue and is there any update regarding a fix? Updating this now because I am being constantly logged out multiple times a week and losing all my recent history. Extremely annoying and the lack of any update makes it worse
Too long between new releases. The app is generally fine but there is so much time between comic releases. I have to wait months for new releases when I pay for this subscription! At least add a thing on series page that tells you what date the next issue is being added to the app!
Forced to use now Marvel Comics app is shut down. I’ve used the marvel comics app for a long time, and now it’s gone this app feels like a bit of a downgrade. - you’re asked to subscribe every time you open the app and have to go through a couple of clicks just to access your already bought library - you can no longer buy digital versions of comics. I much prefer to be able to buy individual issues that I can go back and read whenever. Why not offer both stand along issue purchase and subscription models? - the filters in the my comics section don’t persist between opens and you can not ‘archive’ or hide series that you’re done with - when you click on a comic to read it takes you to a details page, instead of straight into the reader UI - when you click into a series, the issues of that series are not displayed in issue order and it seems random - the other marvel comics reader UI felt more fluid I know this transition is still happening, so I hope that some of my issues are resolved as it all settles in. Love marvel comics in general, but think there could be a few things done to make this a better experience for the previous app users.

Buggy. I enjoy the premise of this app, comics on the go are great. But for a subscription as expensive as Spotify or Prime, I was expecting a better UI. My downloads don’t load without wifi, and the search system could be better.
Pretty neat. Yeah
Overall great. Continue reading hets glitchy
Its hard to pay. Usually brands make it hard to cancel, the make it hard to PAY. Its so confusing. Also where Do I enter my coupon code?
I hate the update!. I used to love this app but since the update I hate it. I have barely used it since the update and am considering unsubscribing. It is not intuitive, I can’t even find the “view entire series” option so I can scroll through and see what I have read or skip to favourite arcs. It has no “browseability” in my opinion. This seems made for people who never (or can’t) search for anything and just read what shows up immediately when they log in.
I like it. I like it but I can tear the comics on the web without a subscription
Meh. The only thing good about this app is the price and the back issues. It runs terribly. Continuously refusing to open content, freezing and just generally being mediocre. It’s too bad the creators don’t care enough about the app to make it run correctly.
Fantastic!. This app is a really good way to save while keeping up with your favourite series or catch up on some classics! Personally, I’m partial to X-Men
They screwed up my account for months.. They messed up my account for over 2 months. All read, followed and library data was gone. Terrible communication, and still haven’t heard back on the cause or what they would do for those months. Given the price, selection and “support” this isn’t one I would advise somebody to jump into.
So close to good. If the app worked as intended it would be an amazing service. Unfortunately it forgets you have a subscription every time you open the app and sometimes mid comic forcing you to restore your membership and it deletes all of your reading history and anything you have saved. It’s a good app for reading very short comic runs but anything over 10 issues becomes painful due to the issue I mentioned. The app also lies about the price of subscription. It says it’s only $10 a month but charges closer to $15. I’ve tried to contact support but the link in the app leads to a dead page and I’m only greeted with an error message
Love the app. The smart panel feature is making the reading experience absolutely amazing 😂
So worth it. Love this app so much. Definitely worth the money, as its probably the simplest way to read chronologically! Very nice, but please add the original sleepwalker run. Would make me very happy, thank you!!🙏🙏🙏🩷🩷🩷🩷🥹
It’s good.. I get to read all the comics from my childhood, and everything I missed. Without getting ink on my fingers, or ruining them by dropping them in the tub. I’m 54, and endorse this app.
Forgets your reading history?!. I’ve being a paying subscriber for years and suddenly, out of nowhere, the app no longer remembers anything that I’ve read. Data loss like this is very disappointing and I’m not sure I can recommend the app in this state.
Simple amazing!. All the comics you could want in one spot
Great app!!. Just using for the first time. App is great (please add function to save zoom preference between pages) but MAN OH MAN does the website need work. You’re reading comics and the reading function in the browser is awful. You either see the full page or zoom ALL THE WAY in, not even to the window width, BUT HUGE!! Plus on the computer it doesn’t let you see your library. What? If there was an app for Mac/PC, then fine – but there isn’t. Going to try the trial and see if I subscribe.
One of the best reading apps. There is an amazing the amount comics to read through. Definitely one of my favourite services Marvel offers.
Fine, when it works.. The service has lots of older comics as well as the more recent stuff. I also seem to get loading errors every time I want to read anything. I think I’ll stick with the library’s digital collections/print trades and buying physical copies. There’s also stuff that goes out of copyright that I read from other publishers (ex Dynamite’s Marvel Red Sonja), Atlas, and the Marvel MAX line.
So good!. Can’t get enough of it. My favourite one to read right now is Cloak and Dagger, started with the first ever issue! Love that there’s an app like this!
Great, When It Works Properly.. Almost every time they update the app there seems to be issues and when you contact support for help they don’t read what you write half the time and just provide a generic answer. They’ll also just stop responding if they can’t resolve your issue. When the app is working properly it’s great. The support staff, not so much.
Too many crashes. I love the content of this app! The usability is pretty friendly however there are a lot of unexpected crashes. It can be really frustrating when trying to add or search for series and repeatedly end up at your home screen. It definitely causes a limit to how often I use the app.
By all means add longer books fr🧍🏾♂️. Tuff
Best app ever. Awesome
It’s what it says it is. And it does it good.. You get what you paid for. Want every comic from the past and all the ones to come? Get this. My favourite part? It doesn’t have a coin system like other platforms that also have subscriptions like WEBTOON. Just get on, pay, and read. People who are new to comics I will say if you want to start reading a characters comics from the beginning, it’ll be hard to find a good place to start. You can use Reddit to find a starting point tho Very great product!
Finally able to read the backstory!. I’m enjoying it after reading the entire x-books as they were meant to be experienced, without the hurdles of finding, handling, storing flimsy physical paper. It’s making these stories accessible for everyone who wasn’t up for physical media, which helps get more people excited about references in other media like the movies or series. The app does need to slot Annual issues into the regular run of the series; and I might like links in the “see issue x” references; but it has already improved since I got it, and otherwise it’s been great for the commute, and it’s going to change the industry for the better. I hope to enjoy it for many years. Five stars from me.
Glorious! Each Panel Displayed Enlarged to Enjoy the Art. The smart panel is by far my favorite feature of the app. Displaying the whole page then zooming in on each image, each part of the action makes the stories more immersive and allows me to pause often to enjoy the art. Using my phone and iPad, both are excellent.
Wow. This app has changed my life in so many different ways. Life is not complete without Marvel Unlimited, I can’t stop and I won’t stop.
The power of the comics in the palm of my hand. I absolutely love the opportunity to catch up on all the comics I missed out on at very nice generous price
👍. 👍
Enjoy. Tale no place in m’y library or housse. CAN bring it with me Every where Andrès read Anyss Time A Must
This app rarely works. Almost Every time I try to use this app, it won’t load the comics and a message saying “oops something went wrong”. It’s an infuriating experience. I’ve read like 6 comics over the last year. Customer service is non-existent.
Very pleasing if you love comic books. Very good app for reading book i wish i could zoom a bit more for my old eye
Misleading. Repeatedly advertises $9.99/month but after clicking Join Now it indicates that it will actually be $12.99/month. Clearly the cheaper one is the U.S. price and the other one not. Such a rookie error it raises questions about what other simple programming errors are inherent within the app. I’d better pass.
Migrating disaster…. So the Marvel Comics App (5 stars) was shut down and we were all forced to migrate our comic library here. Just immediately this app is more confusing to navigate. You can’t search within your library, so if I search for a title I get a bunch of comics that I can’t even read come up (I do not, nor do I have any interest, in getting a subscription). Reading the comics isn’t great. If I rotate the screen vertically it’s no problem, but if I want to read horizontally I can’t. Instead of displaying two pages like a normal comic book (and how the old app did it), I only get half a page. There’s no way to change this in the settings. If I switch to the zoomed in mode, I find this isn’t well-done as well. The previous app would give you the comic frame by frame, but the new app kinda zooms in randomly, cutting panels in two or cutting out the edges. I just don’t enjoy it as much. Sometimes the app just doesn’t work offline, which is incredibly frustrating. What’s the point of having downloaded comics if I can’t open them when I’m offline? Finally, the worst thing about this app is that I can’t buy single issues. If there’s an option to add digital comics to a private library, there should be an option to buy them. Unfortunately, I know the only reason this isn’t offered is because Marvel wants you to spend extra on a subscription, which is just gross. I like the app in theory, but they really need to improve a lot…
Marvel. Would like a narration option
Amazing. Really nice work, and I love the smart panel feature
Scam. First it shows it is $7.99 per month then $9.99 and then when you go to subscribe it’s $12.99. As if Disney is hurting for money. Deleted after the trial.
Ok but confusing. Very often you will read a series. Then when you are at issue #3 it then suggests you the next, #5. You manually search for 4 but never find it. You then need to google and hopefully you will find something. Imagine if every single Netflix tv series would play next a random next episode.... it cannot be more frustrating than this. And it seems to be the most basic functionality. Update: now 2 stars. Very often the app is unable to load pages for unknown reason. But at the same time Iam able to view 4k youtube videos and my wifi is all good. How. How can you fail an app that is basically loading PDFs.
New MarvelUnlimited app. Loving everything about the new design! Couple of glitches though, every once in a while it’ll kick me out of my account. Easy fix by just restoring the purchase or re-signing in. Also love that we get to see the next weeks releases early on Sundays! Don’t know if that’s a glitch or not but please keep it in. I also love the new infinity comics especially “it’s Jeff “
Amazing. Truly amazing and an absolute need for comic fans.
Got kicked out of the app. My pass doesnt work, never disconnected but got disconnected by the app and password recovery doesnt work so until I can get back in my account, you get a one
Good when it works. Very good when the app works, delivers value every week and the smart panel feature makes reading on a phone feel great. Bad news is the latest update has locked me out and won’t recognize my active subscription. Not the first time this has happened over the course of a couple years.
Functional. Does what it says on the tin, but it’s missing a lot of additional functionality and is surprising buggy in my experience. As far as options go, you can’t create personal groups or lists of issues or series, which is especially frustrating as there are many events with no reading guide on the service (e.g. Blood Ties). Most of the bugs I’ve encountered have been regarding the “continue reading” section, mostly with removing issues. Overall, decent app, but lacking in the polish I would expect and hope for.
SO. MANY. COMICS!. ...I may never get any work done again.
Oops something went wrong. Every time I try to delete comics I’ve read off my offline library, I keep getting a message saying ‘Oops something went wrong! Please try again later’ Don’t get me wrong I love this service and have been subscribed since 2015 and I relay on it constantly for when you I’m on standby at work but I can’t enjoy what this app has to offer if I can add new things from my library to the offline library. Please fix this!
Love Marvel. It is an amazing app with great comics
Good content, bad app.. Lots of content is available… but it’s hard to do specific searches. Even when using Marvel’s own very specific issue titling conventions, many unrelated results come up. Reading guides are good but you can’t sort your downloads according to the reading guide, so for example, if you want to read the whole Onslaught saga, you can download all issues across multiple series, but you can’t sort them in the order they take place, only by month of release, so if two issues from different series have a story run across them, the issues are sorted by month, then alphabetical by title, not by sequence of story arc. You will end up jumping back and forth across the timeline of any cross-series story. Also, once you go offline (like reading when traveling), the app doesn’t remember what you’ve read or even what issue you’re on when you return to your downloads library. It’s great for having lots of content, but VERY frustrating to actually use to read your comics. I do not recommend, I doubt I’ll renew my subscription.
Offline comics require and internet connection?. I loaded up this app with a bunch of comics to read on a long flight. Well without an internet connection you can't access your downloads... so what's the point this app sucks with it. Misleading feature.
Bug with « remove from continue reading ». I can’t remove some comics from « continue reading » it is really annoying and I hope the fix it. Otherwise the app is really fun.
great comic reader. All in one place, very convenient

Marvel Unlimited app disappointing. I have been a huge Marvel fan for years, moving from paper into digital over time. The recent migration from the Marvel Comics app to the Marvel Unlimited app has been a significant downgrade. 1. Marvel Unlimited logs you out frequently and defaults to a subscription screen when you open the app after being logged out. You need to choose sign in another way to access the separate sign in for your Marvel library. 2. You can not easily navigate through your collection. Everything is a scroll. Larger collections can take a significant amount of time to get to the bottom of the list favorites. 3. Exiting a comic you are reading to return to the library is completely infuriating. Tap, swipe, double tap, tap and drag, pinch - tried them all and the close function only appears on occasion. 4. Completion of an issue does not let you automatically move to the next issue. All I can say hear is wow. 5. You can’t purchase digital comics anyplace from an Apple device. I guess I will no longer be purchasing comics. 6. Lackluster smart transitioning does not elevate full page art. Of the dozen comics I have read so far, everything starts off zoomed into the cover. Covers are what draws me into the story. I have purchased many comics just for the cover alone, this is why you publish variants. Why would you open comics fro reading zoomed to the text title? Pretty disappointed. Forced to transition to an inferior product. I sure hope they fix this.
Best comic reading app. Marvel Unlimited is a reading app that keeps track of your reading progress and organize your reading list in a way that is easy to track and revisit your favorite moments. The interface is easy to use with different types of presentation from the classic comic view, page by page, to the presentation view that highlights small details to appear on your full screen. The subscription allows for the Marvel fans to look up any comic title from the classic ones to the modern ones. Marvel always update their online Marvel Unlimited comic list, and their update to the app interface has always progressed positively. I’ve been using their Marvel Unlimited app for almost 10 years and I’m always happy to have the option to look up any Marvel comics any time.
Love the new update. Loving the new update. The ability to follow characters and creators, unlimited downloads, and to finally be able to see a full list of creators and comic details with a beautiful UI. So far, the only issues I can find are: 1. The status bar is visible while reading a comic, this was previously hidden while reading. Please fix this ASAP because it’s the most annoying while using the app. 2. The navigation bar appears way too easily while reading, whereas it got out of the way when it wasn’t needed. The logic was perfect before for IMO. 3. No way to search by date or date range. This is useful for finding old comics in a certain year, etc. Keep up the great work and congrats to the team on the release. Edit: The app no longer keeps read history. Every app launch resets my progress and which comics I’ve read. Would love for this to be fixed, and a way to view my entire read history with the service.
Great until new update. Loved this app until the new update, which is a great new look and feel, introduced various technical issues. After the update, when I went to access the app, after I signed back in with my account, the app no longer has any record of the comics I have read, the comics I saved to my library aren’t accurate (most issues are missing and most are also marked as unread). This is super frustrating because I was reading my way through the entire Marvel U library and with the status (read vs unread) and my library being incorrect I will have to go back through and manually update each individual comic (mark as read and add to my library) which is frustrating because I had read tens-of-thousands of comics to date. Also, the Search function is screwed up; when you begin to scroll, when sorting Series from A-Z or Z-A, just continues to bounce you back to the top of the list after you are only about 15 series in. When saving new comics to my library, if the app reloads (like when you are refreshing it to get around a freeze) it loses all comics you have saved to your library since the new version update. Also, you lose all your read status as well. Please bring back the letter legend in search My library, even when I’m actively adding new comics to it never reflects the changes. I have contacted customer support but no resolution(s) to date nor was I provided an ETA on fixes. If you can address these issues, I am happy to give an amazing review and a 5 star rating.
A Most Marvel-ous Review of the Marvel Unlimited App. Good heavens! Upon my first encounter with this so-called “Marvel Unlimited,” I half-expected a modest pamphlet or perhaps a serialized adventure tucked between advertisements for moustache wax and gout remedies. Imagine my astonishment when I discovered a veritable library of heroic tales—more vast than the British Empire herself! Why, one needn’t even rise from one’s fainting couch! With but a few gentlemanly taps of the finger (a digit once reserved for calling one’s butler), I may summon forth Iron Man, that steel-plated chap with the social graces of a cannonball, or Captain America, a strapping fellow who appears to have mislaid his empire but found a flag instead. The interface, I daresay, is smoother than a fresh shave with a Wilkinson blade. My only lament is that I cannot physically smell the parchment, nor can I dramatically slam shut an issue whilst declaring, “By Jove, what a twist!” Still, progress marches on, even if it occasionally forgets to wipe its boots before entering. In conclusion, this Marvel Unlimited is an app of such grandeur that even Her Majesty’s Royal Librarian would blush to see my reading hours. A most exhilarating modern contraption! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must return to reading about this “Hulk” fellow—he reminds me terribly of my uncle after port. — Sir Reginald Thistleworth, Esq., Loyal Reader and Occasional Hero in Spirit
Coming from the Marvel Comic App (operated by Comixology). Migrating over to a this app and coming from the other app this version still needs work. Sorting issues is all over the place. Some issues are out of order, I.e some amazing Spider-Man’s are sorted in the A’s and others are sorted in the “T’s” Also, having the ability to hold the issue cover to bring up the option to mark as read instead of having to go all the way into it to mark it would be great. Reading on an iPad in landscape mode has you scrolling to read the page instead of it being “zoomed out” and fitting the whole page at once. Maybe even just a third option if people want that. Smart panel, scroll, and zoomed out. Give me a tab for unread comics. I purchase ever week and as far as I can tell there’s only a continue reading but nothing for unread. Also, I don’t see anywhere that shows my current comic count. In the original app I have 1000+ comics but in this app because of the sorting issues that the app has and the lack of “total count” I have no idea if all of my comics have made it or not. Overall I see the potential. I want to give the app 5 stars but right now it’s missing a lot of charm that the original app has and I hope that some of this stuff can get figured out in the next month before the other app shuts down completely. Thank you for your time.
Well… it WAS good…. I had enjoyed this app for over three years. Two weeks ago, it was announced that there would be a “major” update to the app. That turned out to be a major stripping out of much of the functionality of the app. I’ve been reading (collecting) comics for almost 35 years, and not to sound too “get off my lawn”ish, but this update didn’t seem to be for people like me. You can no longer sort between series in your library. You can, for example, only see all of the Uncanny X-men series, Avengers Vol. etc., together. This makes it hard to read issues between series. Before I could just sort my whole list by oldest to newest and basically read the issues in the same order as they were released. Now, I have to figure out the order myself and then find the issues in the series. Also, as I have oh… about 1000 comics saved to my library, sometimes I’ll read a bunch at once. But you can no longer select multiple comics at a time and remove them from your library. You can only remove one at a time! Oh, and the sort function doesn’t stick. As mentioned, I sort oldest to newest, but every time I open the app, it defaults back to Recently Saved. So, I have to keep resorting. And finally, the app feels sluggish now. It has frozen once or twice too, but mostly, when you tap a page turn, now it might take a second. Not better. Please fix, or at least bring back some of the functionality that made this app one of the best for reading comics.
Locked out again, no support at all. Cancelled after several years.. Twice In a week the App won’t let me log in. Sometimes you can fix it yourself by going to the website, sometimes you can’t. Don’t bother contacting support as you get a note that they will get back to to in 3-5 days and I’ve yet to have them contact me other than automated emails. The app, and the website interface for marvel unlimited is terrible. You just need to accept that and decide if you want to buy it anyway. It breaks almost every time there is an update, locking you out of your account and requiring a reset of your password. When it does work, it doesn’t work the way you’d want it to. If you decide to read an event, you think it would be as simple as clicking on the event and reading from start to finish. You’d be wrong. In the latest update you’ll see the whole event by series, and you might even be able to read them in order within each comic, but don’t think you can read them in the order they were released. So you can read the main event if it works, but then you’d read each side story after you’ve finished. That’s not how I like to experience it so I go and add everything that my library. I then sort oldest first, because the default is to read backwards. So everything you’ve ever added to your library is now in order. Find your startling point, read it. Now you can set to unread and start the event. Of course you can’t continue to the “next” after you read an issue, that would crazy. You have to go back to library and read the next unread issue. Reading lists don’t seem to work at all, I have no idea how they are supposed to work. Maybe you can pick a point in an individual line and follow it through, but ive been trying to catch up on events since I joined and it’s much more trouble that it should be. After recent outages and failed move of login info, I’ve decided it’s not worth paying for a service I can’t count on receiving.
Amazing! But still don’t beat paper comics. I have to say this is probably my favorite app I absolutely love it such a great price with all of marvel at your fingertips! it lets you come up with a pull list, notifies you when new stuff comes out and keeps track of what you’re reading and where you are. way more economical than having a room full of comics however it’s still not the same. you don’t get the smell of the pages and the ink,the tactile feelings between your fingertips. you don’t get to look back in time at all the advertisements and remember when it was cool to like this thing or that thing. there’s no taking care of these comics and they’re very hard to loan to a friend or trade. but if you can bear to pull yourself away from the physical world and go all digital this is the best thing. even though it does take all the fun out of collecting. Ha ha
Still needs work. It’s a cool service, but why is it 2023 and I’m still dealing with the same issues when I was using it in 2016? Issues that I have read appear “unread”, the comics I have saved under the “My Comics” tab regularly disappear, yet when I search them and find them, the only option I have is “remove from library”. Also, the “retry download” button never seems to work on a failed download. This is a paid service, and I’m sure many users are frustrated to be spending their hard earned dollars on a buggy app. Marvel and Disney both have the resources to make this a stellar app and need to step it up. The only plus side is that downloads are unlimited now not capped at a certain quantity. Another thing I’d like worked on is the recommendations algorithm. No matter how many titles I read, or creators I follow, the recommendations remain the same, even including many titles and series I’ve already read.
Still trash (dev response, 0 stars). UPDATE: I just received a developer response, the same copy/paste response sent to so many others, about how searching by publication date is now a thing. While that was a problem, that WASN’T one of the problems I listed. The app customer support team isn’t even reading these reviews. They are just generic replying (probably because there is some metric they are trying to meet by “responding”). If I could give negative stars, I would. Getting a thoughtless response is worse than no response. I’ve lost track how long this new update has been out for, but it is still a flaming dumpster fire. Do you care about crossover events (because it’s not like there aren’t a handful of these each year) and want to read them in some semblance of published order? NOPE, not without a lot of hassle looking up each series one by one. Do you have a lot of issues saved to your library and want to just see what’s unread? One click? HA!! Try five taps. Did you forget to check the app for a week and want to go back and bookmark issues that were recently released to the app? Also a fat no. You only get to see what’s new this week, not this month, or even just a simple reverse publishing order of everything available in the app. But do you care 1000% about being a marvel insider? Well I have good news for you, because that nonsense is all over this app. Listen marvel, i don’t think I’m asking for that much when I ask for A) just a one tap toggle switch on any page where there is a list of comics to only show what is unread (but I suppose that would depend on you caring to track and maintain successfully what has and has not been read) and B) not insist on grouping everything by series. A good portion of your business is crossover events (big and small) and this decision just fully thumbs your nose at being able to read these events.
The recent overhaul ruined the app. I LOVED this app and have a yearly subscription, but the recent overhaul has ruined the user interface. It feels like the developers wanted to go for sleek rather than thinking about all of the handy ways a reader would actually need to go about reading comics, or even finding a comic to read. I have zero idea how this got past an alpha test, much less a beta. I use comics as part of my pedagogy in the classroom and the app used to be perfect for searching, organizing and sorting. Now it’s just a garbled mess. Quite literally they should wipe away the update and go back to the way it was. I think marvel fans the world over would cheer. I’m lucky in that I only updated on my iPad and not phone, so I, still able to search and kind of kludge things together enough that I can then read on the tablet. But honestly, it’s a huge headache and I haven’t used the app much since the downgraded update. Take the mea culpa, guys, and just give us back the old app until you fix pretty much everything about whatever this is, so that we can read comics again. Yeesh.
Great so far, room for improvement. The subscription service is a miracle of the modern age, and the app itself works a lot better (bug wise) than other (maybe outdated) reviews would suggest. I haven’t used the app and service for more than a week, but I have enjoyed it thoroughly so far (logging in, downloading/reading comics, etc.). I would, however, suggest an interface that is more like the Marvel Comics app, as Unlimited’s interface (beyond some of its reading lists) does not provide enough options for exploring, learning, and seeing editor-picked series/lists (like in the Comics app). And speaking of series, the “read next in series” button at the end of a comic is great functionality, but I wish that I could search, select, and save series as a whole in the main interface. That being said, the app still gives you the power to search for comics along a variety of criteria, which is important and helpful, albeit if you already know what you are looking for. This leads me to wonder: why are there two apps, one for “subscription” and one for purchasing, when the experience could be consolidated? Are these two different developers, are there historical reasons, or something else? And what stops these apps from being consolidated? All in all, this app experience is solid for me, even if (in my opinion) the interface is lacking in functionality.
It’s great to have. Reading the comics more and more is great, having more knowledge and seeing the visuals. I’m a big fan of the movies and the comics, at some point when I’m twenty something years old I’ll have a paperback collection of them, the only ones I have so far are the civil war ones and that’s from going down to Universal Studios in Orlando. Being able to go on my phone and read the comics about superheroes I love, the ones I grew up on, the heroes that I never got into, and some that I didn’t know is dope because I have more knowledge of Marvel. With all that being said you’d want to act in the movies, who wouldn’t? Being a hero or a villain in this universe... a character period would be amazing. Watching the movies over again, you enjoy observing everything from the acting to the details, the relation between the comics and the movie or the callbacks in the movie along with the warming Stan Lee cameos.
Marvelous. Marvel Unlimited is a wonderful way to read your favorite Marvel comics! It is simple and very user-friendly. The home page has a continue reading section along with your saved reading lists and what’s new this week making everything as easy as apple pie. The reading lists give you a way to read every title in a crossover or every issue from a specific writer or team’s run. MU has almost every Marvel comic you can think of and are adding more every week. And being only three months behind on current comics let’s you stay up to date on your favorite characters. Which is much better than the 6 months that some of their competitors have. Honestly if you’re an avid comic reader I suggest getting the app on your tablet device with an annual subscription to use it to its fullest. I honestly love it. Until next time, Excelsior!
Love the service! Hate the app!. I absolutely love having access to all of these stories. When I was a kid I always wanted to be able to follow all the side stories and notations. To see what was going on in the background of the comics I loved. Now I can and do. I’m using the app almost every day. Which is why the app is so frustrating to me! There is NO useable search engine. You should be able to enter the title that you want and have it. Instead you have to browse through all of the titles and then scroll through all of the issues looking for what you want. Heck, why not have the notations in issues clickable links to take you to the appropriate comic. Also the app has loading problems and a lot of the older comics have not been well adapted to the new format. The digital frames often cut off midway through the comic frame. Text on the edges is cut through. So basically, the service is fantastic. I can’t recommend it enough. But the app is very poorly thought out and needs a full overhaul.
I’M OUT. YOU LOSE, MARVEL.. UPDATE 2024: It’s been nearly three years since the first horrible “update” ruined the entire Marvel Unlimited app. Since then, many other “updates” and “fixes” have been implemented, but NOT ONE OF THEM addressed any of the issues that readers have reported. The app has gone from being the most comprehensive and accessible library I’ve ever used, to being the most ridiculous attempt at hyping and shilling whatever is in the Disney pipeline this week. 2021: I WILL NOT BE RENEWING MY SUBSCRIPTION. My auto-renewed subscription that I have had for several years has been set to end in January, and I will not be returning. I’d like to say that it’s been fantastic, but that would be a lie. Because it’s been nothing but frustration to deal with the ridiculousness of this app since the hard reboot that you people did to it a couple of Septembers ago. Your inability to fix it in any satisfactory fashion for the subscriber’s ease-of-use has become your downfall. I am giving up Marvel Comics (in both digital and physical formats) and the MCU / Disney+ entirely. It’s become far more trouble than I am willing to endure, let alone pay for the treatment. Goodbye.
Not working at all. update - 9/27 the issue was resolved. I am disappointed it took 11 days to resolve my issue but I am happy I can read comics again. I loved this app but since the the latest release i have not been able to log into the app at all. When I try to sign in I am forced to a page that wants me to choose a plan and subscribe. I can't get around it. I contacted customer service on 9/16 and received a reply telling me to delete and reinstall the app. I did that and i am still having the same problem. I wrote back and told them it didn't work and still haven't heard back from them. to be clear, i am trying to sign in, not restore purchase (i originally subscribed through the website). i can log in on the website and see I am paid up and it will be months before I expire. You can't read the comics on the website - I am directed to the app which opens asks me to choose a plan and subscribe even as I am still logged in on the website. i am getting very upset. it has been a full week since the last time I was able to read a comic.
Great app. I never got into comics as a kid but always loved the marvel cartoon from the that time period into the 90s-00s. I debated on whether to go thru and pay for a sub, but after the free trial I was definitely invested in reading the original stories presented in the comics. Now about a month or two into my subscription I still use the app almost daily. I will say it’s not a 5 star rating because I’d like to see a feature where if you’re reading a particular comic that it could be found in the continue reading section. It’s cool per issue, but it would definitely be more accessible to have all the comics your reading in one place - as opposed to just being able to save them in the library. One final thing -and this idt a deal breaker but when reading an issue panel by panel it would be nice if the screen would slide to the next panel, this is present when sliding to the previous panel but not forward.
Update. The new layout and functions since the update are fine, but they removed the ability to search by publication date, which is how I found the issues I wanted to read. Now I have to get on my computer and go to different sites to find the issues that I want to read. Please restore that search function. Also, the issues I put into my library are grouped by series, which is a bit irritating, but I can work around that…..this is what I initially thought, but after using it for a couple of days, I found that grouping everything by series, which could be sorted chronologically, it was easy to put the next issue into my library while removing the one I had just read. Also sorting the series in my library by publication date only sorted those issues I had saved to the library, making it simpler to read the comics in the order they were written.
Frustrations leading me to consider canceling my subscription. I’ve been a Marvel Unlimited subscriber for a number of years, but I find this app incredibly frustrating to use at times. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve opened the app to discover that ALL the comics that I have already read up until that point have lost their ״Read” status, which causes me to lose my place in the the series that I am currently in the middle of reading. Additionally, I find it ridiculous that a feature doesn’t exist (or is at least not intuitive enough to set up if it does exist) where all new issues for a series that I am following automatically appear in the “My Comics” tab in my library when they are released. I sincerely want this to be a great app because I love being able to read my comics on my iPad. But these little flaws always frustrate me to the point where I stop using it for days or weeks at a time. I don’t doubt that at some point, it will frustrate me to the point where I’ll cancel my subscription and get my comics from elsewhere.
Incomplete reading guides. Don’t trust their reading guides to include all of the tie-ins for cross-over events, even though often the titles they have left out are included on Unlimited, just nonsensically left off of their lists. Or for the reading lists to be in the right reading order, from House of M, Secret Invasion, to other mainstay cross-overs, I’ve been met with spoilers because someone decided reading order shouldn’t follow trade publication order. Finally, if you’re interested in reading all of the issues of a particular character (or organization), don’t trust the list they offer you when you click on the character page. In some instances it’s all there, but others there are key issues or entire swathes of storylines left out (again, even though the missing issues are often still included in Unlimited. Just not in their lists). These things should be complete and definitive, coming from the publisher and all, but outside forums offer you more comprehensive and honest reading guides.
Amazing, Uncanny, Mighty. This app has been a blessing for me, as a parent with limited funds the $9.99 a month for unlimited reading fits my budget and allows to keep up with my passionate fervor to read comics. The back catalogue is incredible and includes many full runs. The only drawback for some may be the six month wait for brand new releases, I personally have no issue with waiting because you still get new comics weekly. I have used other comic reading apps but none are as easy to use as Marvel Unlimited. The search feature is great and you can search by title, character, or creators. Also a huge bonus are the curated reading lists that cover major events, spotlights for characters, as well as a great list for people who are brand new to comics after falling love with the movies. I use the app on both my iPhone and iPad and it is easy read on each, I do have a larger phone which makes things easier on the eyes. My favorite thing about the actual reading is the guided view which actually walks you panel by panel which makes that phone reading great by blowing up some of those smaller panels. If you are a fan of comics or new to them this is the best app I have found for reading and I would suggest it to anyone.
Assume sauce with a kick!!!. I love comics, and MARVEL is one of my favorite sources for comics!!! I've been using the Unlimited app for a few years now and I really really REALLY can't express how much I've enjoyed it! My only critique is that there isn't a really great guide within the app for navigating MARVEL EVENTS. I wanted to (and am currently still doing) read through all major EVENTS (including all tie-ins), in chronological order, starting in late 1980's, up to the present. I've had to Google and search and use a third party source to find a really in depth, and detailed reading list of what I wanted to read. After taking a few unplanned breaks here and there, I've finally made barely into the 2010's!!! And I have every intention to continue! I just wish I could use the app to navigate MARVEL EVENTS (in detailed chronological order) instead of having to look it up through another source. Other than that... absolutely wonderful stories with amazing artwork that just gets better and better as I read through the years!!! Oh! And if you get the app (which you should!), you should join up with Marvel Insider! Accumulate points that lead to rewards just for reading awesome comics, which is a reward in itself! You basically get rewards for being rewarded!!! (That last bit there was good!!! Hey Marvel, you Jane any openings in your marketing/promotional department?)
Ruined my favorite app. The recent update removed the previous version’s ability to search through available comics by date. I can see what comics were added to the app for the current week but, if I miss a week (as I often do) I cannot look back and see what was added. This was a fantastic feature that previously enabled me to read many books that I would normally skip over. The lack of search by date also makes it really hard to follow books that are loosely connected in a readable, chronological order. Previously, I would also love to look back and pick a random date in history and see what Marvel released and read some of those issues. It’s so disappointing, this was my favorite app, I loved recommending it to friends interested in comics but, with these changes it feels nearly useless to me. My yearly subscription renewed right before the update so I guess I’m stuck with this subpar version. Hopefully, before my renewal rolls around next year, they’ll fix this app, otherwise I’ll probably cancel my subscription.
Great but could be a little more reader friendly. I have loved my Marvel Unlimited subscription, but one thing I want to use it most for is still frustrating to do. Reading major events is definitely the most exciting thing about the service for me, and I do like the reading lists service for that. The problem is the lack of sorting with those lists. With Civil War 2 or Secret Empire for instance, there are many different comic runs that make up the story. To actually read them in order you need to constantly scan the dates of every issue in those multiple runs or get another reading list online and follow that. Honestly a view as single list with basic sorting options like: “sort by release date” would make it a hundred times easier to read the issues in a proper order! This one feature would make the MU experience for reading events that span multiple comic runs 100x better!
Already wrote about broken search, but also too many clicks in different spots to close a comic. I have already written about the broken search, as it has lost the ability to search by date. To where if you miss reading for one week there is no way to search by date. Even finding individual issues is much harder. Now with further use I have other issues. It now takes so many clicks to open and close a book. When you click on a book, you get it’s info page, then can open it to read. Then when you get to the end it pops up a window in the middle with a close box that brings you back to the book, you must then click around the top to bring up the close x which is in a different spot! This is horrible UI design. It should be one click to get out of book and one screen, and even then it brings you back to the info page, which you must close to move on. Honestly I only need the info pane once! Then there are the new unlimited scrolling comics. They seem to be on their own schedule, and show up during the week, pushing the weeks current issues into a view all page with another click. If these are going to be with the weekly new issues they should all come with the weekly refresh. And personally i find the scrolling nature of the comics to be very annoying. I want my comics to be read the same way so i don’t need to be doing different methods to read them. I know it is more content, and some of the issues have been interesting, but most are normal comics that you scroll, which is frustrating. And having lost my entire read history is awful! Are you kidding me? Who thought this was a good idea? The only positive is being able to download more comics.
Disappointed….Amazon’s App was WAY BETTER. Three main reasons this app is disappointing, frustrating, and unsatisfactory for a comic collector. 1.)Downloaded bought digital comics for offline reading, yet does not give access to personal library collection. Instead states that there is no online access and no option for reading comics offline. Sometimes it works, most times it does not. So, what is the point of downloading comics for offline reading? Which is the only reason I have this app in the first place. So, I may read the print comics with out having to actually touch the real comic, and have the print version left safely in my collection. 2.) Strongly DISLIKE pushing subscriptions with no option for accesss to my digital library, except to force quit and restart the app. 3.) The Offline Downloaded Digital Library should be as well organized as the online, with the same amount of options, organization, and catergories. Those are the main complaints and concerns regarding this app. Fix these issues and the app would be a lot better.
The new update is not so great. I used to love this app. I can't get better Marvel content anywhere. But I have to drop a star, because there's been a bunch of issues since the big update. The app looks great but the functionality isn't what it once was. My biggest issue is that all the comics we read in the past are now marked as unread. I've read thousands of comics, I can't go back and re-mark all of them as read. That's too time consuming, so now I'm left with a muddied up library. The search function doesn't always work. I understand that the whole thing is new so there's bound to be glitches but it happens quite often. The sort function also doesn't save your previous preferences so it's a little annoying having to re-select it. If I sorted A-Z last time there's a very good chance that I'll sort it that way next time too. Finally when I read horizontally the page doesn't fill up the whole screen. The width of the page is the same as if I were reading vertically. Which is fine if I'm reading on my iPad but if I'm on my phone that doesn't quite work. Even with an iPhone pro max the text is too small at times. I know I can just zoom in, but I didn't need to do that with the old app. If those issues get fixed I'll be very happy with this app, but right now there's just a whole bunch of frustration.
Good for one person at a time. If what you want to do is read specific comics, this is a fine app. You can add comics to your library and filter by read or unread. But you can’t create subsets in your library, and you can’t mark something that you read but that your spouse is still waiting to read. There’s no filter for reading age, so I can’t easily find comics that are appropriate for my son, and when I read something that would be okay, I have no way to sequester it from the books that are too bloody for a seven year old. I haven’t found a good way to put an entire story arc (like all of Secret Invasion, across all books, for example) in my library, and then there’s no good way to sort that out from other story arcs that happened to be published at the same time. So this app is great when I know what book I want to read. But it has the potential to be a lot better and to better engage people in comics than it is/does currently.
Finally updated after months, and I love the new UI!. I held off for a long time manually updating the app because I had heard that the new one was a major step down. As of today, finally updating everything, I have loved and been very impressed with what i’ve seen. It seems a lot smoother than before, no issues reading through everything. Finding issues seems way easier, I love the custom recommendations on the front page, making reading lists is a welcome addition, and there are some solid recommendations. The subreddit had a lot of issues towards this update, but they clearly care and the effort shows with the current build. Also loving the infinity comics that are marvel unlimited exclusives! Thanks everyone at the dev team, you are awesome!
New Update is Not User-Friendly. Removing the alphabet bar from searches was a bad choice because endlessly scrolling through characters/series is annoying and slower than using the alphabet bar. It is so much harder to find new characters/series/etc. with the new update. Also, I don’t think changing the “My Library” section from gallery view to list view was a good idea either. I enjoyed seeing the comics I had read/planned to read displayed in gallery view, and it was easier for me to get an idea of everything that was in my library. Overall, I think this update is not super user-friendly. Developers, if you read this, I would consider at least giving users the option to switch between gallery view and list view. I’m sure there are people who love the new list view, but I am not one of those people, and judging by some of the recent reviews I’ve seen I’m not alone in my thinking. I do hope this helps; I have been using the app for quite a while, but this update is a step in the wrong direction.
Almost perfect. I’ve had this app since day one and they’ve had a 2 steps forward one step back approach in their updates. Ex. you used to be able to see all the new comics that came out for the whole month and they’ve taken it away, but you can download more comics for offline. They only used to upload comics once a week, but now I’ve seen multiple downloads a week. Etc etc. I would like them to bring back the whole monthly new comics feature; it keeps you from getting too far behind and looking all around for what u missed, also sometimes the comics take too long to come on screen. It seems like a buffering issue, but it’s gotten way better that it used to be. While there seems to be missing comics: Savage Avengers, etc, there are a lot of comics that I would have never purchased, but have read and thoroughly enjoyed: Eternal, Power pack, etc. Other than that please keep getting better!!! Excelsior!!!
Holy cows Spiderman!!!. I never took the time to read some of the reviews of this up until now and I am just shocked at how many people seem to have issues with it. I just passed my one year mark with marvel unlimited and while there were some really minor bugs in the past year, overall I have never had a single issue with this app. I have been very happy with this purchase and the amount of comics that I have been able to read in the past year using this app on the iPad has been amazing. I’ll admit that I’m not a big fan of it on the phone but I prefer to do all my reading on my iPad anyways so no big deal for me. My experience is that this app has been extremely stable overall and I have been very impressed with it. A good update they did a few weeks ago I believe .6 update for allowing coming since you’ve already read to be shown as read is a great improvement. Keep up the good work
Long time user, first time commenter. Reading: -Bug: iOS time, date, wifi battery overlap with art -Bug: Swiping on the last page triggers a popup. Closing that menu should close the comic instead of reverting the user to the last page of the comic. -Bug: End of issue recommendations are not relevant -Feature: End of issue popup should have forward and back arrows to provide the access to various issues numbers without having to click into “view series” My Library: -Bug (Critical): previously read issues now marked as unread -Bug (critical): “mark as read” only works temporarily -Feature (critical): grid view -Feature: Swipe to remove issue/series from library -Feature: ability to manually arrange titles and have positions persist -Feature: toggle to display issues instead of series -Feature: Library top nav becomes suppressed a few taps in, forcing user to tap the back arrow many times” Search: -“Series” should come first -“Top results” should be removed -“Storylines” should be added to the top nav sort -Feature: ability to search by issue -Feature: ability to search by series starting year Home: -“Continue Reading” should be on top -“New This week” should be under that
You will never run out of comics. In my first month using Marvel Unlimited and holy cow it’s been incredible. Using my downtime when I would normally be scrolling social media rotting my brain and reading comics instead has been an amazing joy. Much better way to pass time. I have a physical collection as well, so MU is a good way to make sure I like an issue before I spend money on a physical. The thing I love most about the digital comics & what really separates digital v physical is the cinematic viewing you can get when you move from panel to panel. The collection is so vast, from the old 1940s Captain America’s to all the current runs. 80 years of comics, you will never run out! My current rotation is Venom (2018), Amazing Spider-Man (2018), Shang-Chi vs Marvel Universe (2021), Wolverine (2020) and a whole bunch of What Ifs! This subscription is a must have for the Marvel fan.
Amazing concept, poor execution.. I subscribed to this service 5 years ago and I loved it for its value and content, it’s truly the best content service I’ve ever subscribed to. However, I was constantly frustrated with the way the app wouldn’t load random pages of books unless I shut it down and restarted it (often several times) and would crash and shut down without warning at least once a session. Eventually I had caught up on everything I wanted to read and I let it go. Last month I resubscribed and was happy to find a lot of great new content. However my enjoyment was quickly soured when the app crashed about a third of the way through my first book. I’ve been using it for a month and it is disappointingly plagued by the same issues now as it was when I used it originally. If I was just rating the service I would give it 5 stars and it would deserve it, and I’m sure the experience on a desktop or laptop is excellent. However, this review is for the iOS app and unfortunately it was a mess five years ago and it continues to be a mess today.
Awesome App. I love the wide selection of just about every series you can think of. I have one small qualm with the app. There’s no easy way to delete multiple downloads at once. I sometimes forget to hit the delete button after finishing an issue, or I run into the problem of not really liking a comic series after I downloaded it and then I find myself having to delete every issue one by one and if I downloaded the full run for a plane ride or something it could be almost 30+ downloads I’d have to delete one by one. If there was a select to delete feature on there it would be super convenient. Other than that I love the app, the price for the subscription is good, the selection is great, I started to get into reading Star Wars comics and the library being full of all the comics I want to read is great.
New update kind of ruined it for me. I was reading chronologically so that I would always be able to follow along with crossover events. It was awesome to see the universe develop between the 40s and 70s. This new update removed the ability to search by publication year and list individual issues chronologically. Now it just lists series chronologically by start date, which is not helpful at all when some series run for 30 years and others start and stop in between. Add in that they removed the ability to filter to “unread only,” and you’re left with an infinite scroll that displays everything you’ve already read mixed with the things you haven’t, and dozens of concurrent series that you’re trying to keep track of and scroll back and forth between to read one issue at a time. Update after developer reply: The sorting by publication date happens before you click into a series, and then applies through into the series you click on. Doesn’t help at all, because without being able to filter by unread, you’re still infinite scrolling through everything you’ve already read. That functionality does exist once you add a series to your library, but if you want to read one year at a time, you have to spend a couple of hours individually selecting series in the search library, scrolling through everything you’ve read, and then adding individual issues to your personal library. The developer’s statement that searching by publication year is coming back has me tentatively encouraged, but not much, because I’ve already seen series listed with date ranges that don’t match the issues inside. Moreover, if you’re reading chronologically one year at a time, you can’t just add a whole series to your library and then filter by publication year, because it filters out every series that has issues outside of that year, rather than just filtering out the issues outside of that year. So if that filter is added as is to the search library, it will fix nothing.
Bring Back Publication Date Search. This app used to be the golden standard of comic reading apps. You could search a character, sort by oldest publication date and read every comic in chronological order for the character. Every single comic from their own series to avengers, to a what if. You could even search all marvel comics by publication date range! Wanna read the whole silver age in chronological order? Marvel unlimited got you! But no longer. With this new update, you can’t even sort the comics by oldest publication first. You have to keep scrolling for hours to get to the old stuff. And if there is an annual issue, it won’t take you to that if it’s next. You now have to google the chronological order and back out of marvel unlimited and search for it. It is a true pain. After years of praising this app and bashing DC universe how their search for comics was awful, this new marvel unlimited app is even worse. Definitely canceling my subscription and finding some other app.
Marvel Unlimited. This app is fantastic way to start getting into comics. I had hard time trying to get into them, but I saw an ad for it in my ps4 Spider-man game and thought I would try it. At first it was amazing, I was reading lots of X-men, Spider-man, and Star Wars. The big problem for me is that once you find a series and you catch up on it, the comics are never up to date with what the next issue is. For example, take TAS( The Amazing Spider-man 2018-present) there might be only #1-11, but on the Marvel Comics app it has the current issues. That is my biggest problem with the app, because you pay all this money to read comics, but there’re not kept up to date. Some series are months and months behind on the app. All and all Marvel Unlimited is not a bad app. If your new to comics it is a great way to find out what you like to read. If you’ve been reading for a while, like myself, you would probably be better off just using the Marvel Comics app and paying for your books, or just going to your local comic book shop.
App is almost perfect. Here is the thing that will push it over the top. When you read it in the single panel mode you can’t zoom in to read the words or see the art up close. This issue might not be a big deal if I was reading it on an iPad but I only have an iPhone 7+ (I know it’s a dinosaur but im poor). What I end up having to do it read the full page mode and just zoom in but if I tap the screen accidentally it auto zooms me out. I won’t name the other big comics company but in their app you can zoom in the single panel mode to better read the words or appreciate the line work better. Luckily y’all have more content that I want to read from the past but also the brand new Star Wars comics so I discontinued my subscription with them and kept yalls. Anyway thanks for making the app at all whether y’all change anything or not.
Held Back by the Little Things. I’ve been loving the app so far but there are a couple issues i’ve been having with it that are just annoying. firstly, issues i’ve already read keep appearing at random in my currently reading list. the issues that appear can be removed by swiping through them but they always come back (again at random). this wasn’t a problem at first but i have around 8 issues that keep appearing and as someone who likes things organized. this is very annoying. i use the app on both my phone and pc if that is contributing to the problem. other problems exist but they’re pretty minute. i’d just like to get this feature fixed or find a way to keep it from happening. i would also appreciate the ability to remove series from your currently reading.
Great Library Ruined by Terrible Performance. I genuinely don’t understand how the performance of this app is still so bad at this point. When you download issues, you still can’t access them offline, because the app won’t load any content. So what’s the point of downloading issues? Pretty frustrating when you have a bunch of issues saved for a long trip with no Wi-Fi only to find out that you can’t actually access them. Numerous times I’ve logged into the app to find my entire library and reading history has been deleted. The first time this happened I started rebuilding my library until I got a response from their support team (about a week later, mind you) that I should delete the app and download it again. This did the trick, but now every time I log in I don’t know if I’m going to see my complete library or the incomplete recreation with no reading history. The number of times I’ve had to delete this app just to get my library back is frankly unacceptable. I also wish there was a way to create your own reading lists. They provide you with a handful of curated lists but they’re always incomplete. If you could create your own “playlists” that would go a long way to maintain your place in a long run or in a run where multiple series intersect and you have to jump back and forth. It’s unfortunate that a service with such a huge backlog of material is so frustrating to navigate. They really need to fix these bugs to make it a more usable service, because in its current state, it’s a crapshoot whether or not you’ll be able to actually use the service as intended.
Slow, often crashes, unhappy with service. If I could get a refund I would. The performance of the app itself results in severe lags between flipping pages, crashes, and don’t ever consider opening the My Account portal in the app - it doesn’t work. I thought this would be an affordable way to catch up on recent events, however, the quality of the X-Book franchise in recent years has fallen precipitously and does not make the fees worthwhile. You’ll wait longer than the 3 months to read current books, and since they’ve dismantled the Comixology/Marvel app, you can’t buy current issues except through Amazon’s awful app. (That’s right, you pay for books twice, once if you want to read current books on top of the monthly fees). I thought the special events for Unlimited users might be fun fan celebrations, but instead were subjected to the highly unpleasant and unfunny Marvel Social Media lead, who is just generally insulting in his gate-keeping and derision towards fans. I don’t want to pay him to insult me. Once again, Marvel and the x-office specifically has put me in a place where the hobby brings zero joy. I hope Disney improves the publishing house with a restructuring and new editorial/writing. I hope the app offers an option to purchase current books in a fair and affordable way, and I hope the app improves so you can actually open a comic and read it without waiting 2 minutes for a page turn, if the app doesn’t just crash.
Opening my eyes to the world of Marvel. I’ve been a casual fan of the MCU movies for a while now, and over the course of the pandemic, I’ve found myself researching the lore of the Marvel universe and asking what stories the comics have told to better understand the stories that have been on the big screen. On a whim, I thought I’d try out this app for a week so I could learn what I could about some of my favorite characters. But after a week, I couldn’t stop flipping through pages upon pages of beautiful illustrations and gripping stories that have been created over the decades! I didn’t expect to find such an appreciation for this collaborative form of art. I decided to pay for the subscription – it’s well worth the money, and I’ll never find myself without something to read here, whether old or new.
Insanely great value for Marvel fans!. When I was a kid, I was always jealous of my friends and their collections of Marvel comics. I didn’t have the money to amass a huge collection, and I had to get a lot of my comics second-hand. And now, thanks to Marvel Unlimited, I have access to all the incredible stories I could never read when I was younger! And more incredibly, they have complete runs of tons of comics. I’m on F.F. #251, Avengers #232, and Amazing Spider-Man #244, and there hasn’t been a missing issue yet. Current comics come in about one year after their retail release, but with over 27,000 comics to read already, I’m not concerned with getting the most recent issues immediately. I know this sounds like an ad, but honesty it’s not. Marvel Unlimited is the best value of anything I subscribe to. If I could pay in advance for a lifetime subscription, I would do it immediately.
New version is really bad. As a long time subscriber, I’m terribly disappointed at this new version. It feels lille something that was extremely driven by engineering, with very little UXR or product management. For example, searching for older series is an incredible chore now. Good luck trying to find something. Try doing a search like “Amazing spider-man” and look at all the mismatching results on the top. Then when you eventually find it, the older grid view has been replaced with a cumbersome list. Have fun scrolling until you find your issues! Look, I understand your engineers wanted to paginate and limit the number of issues per response but.. this is a really bad experience. Even under perfect circumstances, the number of clicks and navigation required to get to an issue has increased. This is just bad UX design. This new instance just feels like they took a look at the horrendous DC app, took everything that was bad with it, and replaced it here. Lots of additional broken stuff here but, too long to type honestly.. It boils down to this: you need to get a better product management team.
Proves monopoly leads to bad service. Marvel has a monopoly on its comic book archives, so the only way to access it all without getting bankrupt is buying this monthly subscription and using the app. Unfortunately the app is buggy and often crashes when downloading or opening issues, even though I have updated the app to the latest version and have an iPad Air 2. Often when downloading issues to read offline, the issues will only partly download, and you have no idea this happened until you’re on the plane or bus ride and can’t do anything about it. Worse still, there are issues missing from the “Comic Events” Library for several major events, including Fear Itself and Avengers vs X- Men. You can’t create your own reading orders either, only add issues to your library and download a handful of issues to read offline. Comixology has the superior app but a Comixology sub won’t get you every Marvel back issue, so unfortunately Marvel Unlimited is your only option, and this a guarantee their bad service will likely never change because they are protected from competition.
Most used app on my phone.. I can’t put this app down. I read comics every day now. Thanks to marvel unlimited I’ve been able to read so many issues I’ve lost count, where before this I would have never been able to afford to buy how many comics I have read. Don’t get me wrong I have a collection of my favorites like the venom and carnage series or the iron wars saga, but I can’t get enough of reading them on my computer or phone. Here are a few issues with the offline downloads where sometimes if you have downloaded so many books and you have very bad service that is in and out it will sometimes delete the offline saves. Even after you turn your phone on airplane mode. But it’s ok as long as you have WiFi or decent. Word to the wise; try the one month free trial. Cancel it in your subscriptions the next day so it doesn’t auto charge next month. And if you really like it go online on a computer and get the year subscription through their desktop site. Save you about 40$-50$
