I like this app. This app is awesome. I like to listen to CBS News whenever I can. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is not available for the iPad. Also, I read the description and it said that all CBS radio newscasts, with the exception of the CBS World News Roundup and the CBS-TV newscasts are for three minutes, and they are actually four minutes (five counting the one minute commercial break).

An Audio Nightmare. This app had the potential to be one of my favorite apps for any mobile device ... however at this time I absolutely cannot stand to listen to this app. CBS apparently has no clue what audio normalization is. Volume issues with this app are a nightmare in my vehicle. When I did try this app out, I spent a full week trying to see how it would fare as a primary news app while I am on the road as a truck driver. The result was a constant battle with the volume control. Every time the story would change from one narration to the next, I either could not hear the speaker at all or the sound would blow my ears out. I quickly realized that this was actually causing a major distraction in my driving. With the amount of time I was putting into the volume control, I may as well have been texting and driving or something just as dangerous. I conclusion, I have decided to ditch this app and go back to another news app to get my news while I drive. I wish I did not have to as the other app spends more time asking for donations than actually delivering news to my ears. But frankly I’d rather put up with that than the terrible audio nightmare that is the CBS News Radio app. When CBS hires someone who has a clue on audio normalization, I’ll be happy to return to this app.

Doesn’t work with CarPlay. I thought it might work with IOS 11.4, nope. I deleted and reinstalled the app and it doesn’t appear in CarPlay on my iPhone 8 It was good like 3 Stars when it worked.

Crashing; although fixed, delete reload it!!. It was crashing but then I deleted and reinstalled new and it works again. Please do and poof it will be fixed!! Old review: I used to love to listen to the news updates in the morning. But now every time I launch the app it crashes. Please fix!!!

Crashes constantly. This app crashes constantly. Always play one story and then, gone, never to return. Disappointed.

Glitches. Where to start. Takes forever to load and at times won’t connect to internet. Podcasts won’t load properly. Downloaded podcast will not play. I NEED THIS APP FOR CLASSROOM USE. I have used KCBS for 35 years and I am now having to use the ABC news app as a replacement. PLEASE UPDATE.

Knock, Knock! Anyone home!. Seriously, this app needs an overhaul! Always stops playing within a few minuets after you open the app - you must manually restart it using the Play button. To make matters worse, there is endless bragging about CBS news and all the rewards they have received, over, and over, again! Today it stopped playing after the first news report and refused to work at all - even after I restarted my iPad. Nuff said!

Bad Ads locking phone up. This App advertisers are attempting to take me to the app store to buy without a touch/click and most of the time do not succeed and locks up the app. Forces me to reset/restart the phone even with latest ios. Makes me wonder if they could make my phone buy the app if I did not have a lock on it. Perhaps that is why it is locking up the app. If not fixed, I will be forced to uninstall. Otherwise, I like the app. Seems every time I turn around, others have more control of my phone than myself.

annoying. This app is just flat out annoying. This morning I couldn't even get around the Verizon add that I'm required to tolerate for the first minute or so after I open it?!? The option to get past the pre-roll after its done playing just isn't even there? UGH. When it doesn't crash it can be decent, the content needs to be updated more often and the same exact 5 minute stories can run back-to-back fairly often. Too bad there really aren't any better options out there.

Good News, Awful App. Awful interface that looks like a website from the late 90s. The app is all over place — sometimes it crashes, sometimes you’ll get an unskippable ad when you open it (though sometimes you won’t). Half the time it crashes when you try to download audio for offline listening. It’s hard to believe that one of the biggest, most powerful media companies in America has an app this amateurish. Please get this app into the 21st century and I’ll happily update my review.

Very glitchy app. First of all, the news content itself is very good, and I’ll continue to use this app even though it has a lot of issues. One of the biggest problems for me is that it will pause in the middle of a story, then another story will start playing after it resumes. Secondly, two news stories will play simultaneously after you close the advertisements during the startup of the app. These problems have been ongoing for awhile now. For a mainstream news media outlet like CBS, you would think that they would have better app designers.

Hot mess. I read the negative reviews from years ago and thought, “Well they must have fixed it by now.” Nope. On the iphone once you open it it plays news radio, the off switch doesn’t work, so you have to swipe it off your screen to turn it off. Oh,and the ads are intrusive. That’s as far as I got before deleting it.

Can’t connect. The latest version when you open it says it can’t connect to the internet. I only have 4 stars.

What happened to CarPlay support?. Where is the CarPlay support? The icon is gone from my dash.

Big Disappointment. Why do I keep waiting for the update to this app? Every time I run it I get extremely frustrated when two sound tracks play simultaneously and the volume is difficult to adjust. Honestly my advanced Computer Technology high school students put out better projects than this garbage.

App does not work.. I enjoyed the radio on the news app but it’s been removed. Now this new version keeps crashing.

Crashes. Crashes every time it opens..unusable

New version won't even load. I have been using this app for several years and the new version that just updated for iOS 11 -- I am still on 10 myself -- will not even load. It starts to download content and then totally disappears. It's a no star app at the moment. Please fix this.

Consistently Crashes. This app is horrible. I used to download the World News Roundup podcast every morning before leaving for work. Now apparently the only way to get the podcast is through this app, which crashes almost every time I hit the download button. Other times it will show as downloaded, but then nothing plays back. Did anyone bother to test this before releasing this version? Either fix this app or make the Roundup available again through the Podcast app.

Please delete and reinstall. (I'm an app developer.) As other reviews have stated, if you are having trouble with the app, please delete it and reinstall. Everything is running well, once you delete and reinstall. Please contact us in the app if you are having any difficulties.

Terrible app that should be much better. Developers: Start over from scratch and make a good app. For one thing, there is no way to pause or stop play, even by minimizing the app. There is no way to close it, except by opening an app like Tunein and playing something. The most recent broadcasts are not available, and usually only one is. It is absolutely terrible and reflects very poorly on CBS.

No longer is working with car play. Newest version no longer seems to support car play.

No CarPlay. Doesn’t show up in my CarPlay screen

No CarPlay?. I downloaded this app for one reason: it said it works with CarPlay. But as other reviewers have said, that is a lie. So, I am deleting this app and will just use the CBS News station that is available inside Apple Music.

Terrible App. It’s a shame CBS allows this app to be used. The news/sound comes on without you even opening the app. Stories start then stop or switch to another sound source... rating F-.

Very buggy. There is great material but it’s so buggy I don’t use it often. Ads and stories run at the same time or multiple stories run at the same time. Stories stop abruptly. No consistency in volume. It was much better as part of the old app. This needs fixed badly.

Spying on you!. When I have copied something from the notes on my phone to the clipboard and then open the CBS News Radio app, I get a notification saying that CBS News Radio has pasted what I had on my clipboard. Why would this app need to know what anyone has on their clipboard??

Boooo. Hooray!!!. Can't get past the splash screen. Once fixed I'll be back to love it. Update. Deleted and reinstalled... everything is fine!!!!!!!

CarPlay is a mess!. I’ve used this app in my car via CarPlay to get the hourly news and half hour updates. Though a bit buggy, it’s generally worked for quite a while. It has not worked properly since iOS 15. I can get the live feed, but all the recorded news shows as blank. It’s not that it won’t play. The CarPlay app doesn’t even show the podcasts. They are still on the iPhone app and will play from there, but I don’t access my phone while driving. That’s what CarPlay is for.

Great news, junk app. The reporting is fantastic. HOWEVER, junk app. The largest issue is no scroll bar! 90% of bad stuff with this app could be fixed w/ a scroll bar. The app will stop in the middle of a story for no reason or b/c you loose connection for a second and you have to listen to the whole story again or just quit. Fix w/ scroll bar. Sometimes the report takes a 2 min break where a commercial will go but there will just be dead air and they don't take the half a minute it would take to edit out you also can't skip through because no scroll bar... FRUSTRATING! Also, volume level changes and this can pull you out of a story. Also there is no way to download stories for listening to later. I live in the country I know I am going to drop signal 3+ times on the way home so I download what I want to listen to then delete later. This app forces me to stream. Check out NPR's app. They have done the app better but the reporting is head and shoulders better at CBS. If it was not for your impartial quality reporting I would have deleted this 5 min after getting it. PLEASE FIX!!!

Needs an update!. For the last several months when I open the app it will play between 5 seconds to a minute or two and then shut off. I use the sleep alarm function and it has nothing to do with that. Every night I have to restart the app. Annoying! But I love the news updates at any time, only it’s boring I. The weekend because it isn't updated enough.

Just doesn’t work. I got it for CarPlay. At one point it was great. It may have been my favorite CarPlay app. But now the app is nothing but ads. So the only thing that works is listening to live radio. None of the other features work anymore. I sent a message to the developer. But they haven’t updated the app in almost a year.

It doesn’t work at all. when you open the app, all it does is give you a weight icon you never got any content. It sure as hell does not work with CarPlay like it’s supposed to but just does the same thing nothing happened so it’s this is an absolute piece of junk. How the hell I got on to the Apple Store mysteryI thought apps how to actually work before they could be on the store. What a joke

Not working properly with CarPlay. The app no longer shows up on Apple CarPlay although is still is being marketed as CarPlay ready in the App Store and on Apple’s website. Please fix this, it has been months!

Thanks CBS for being aware there were "issues". Am upgrading my review because obviously cbs upgraded their app. something went haywire a week ago and the entire app went down. Now it's back and better than ever. Thanks for realizing there was a problem you're back to 5 *****

Cuts out. App constantly cuts out n stops working

App hasn't worked in weeks. Up until a month ago I listened to the latest newscast in the on demand section of the app daily. For about a month the app hasn't played and I have been hoping you would send out an update to fix the bugs. When I go to play the app (connected to wifi), it looks like it is trying to refresh, but then stalls before it actually plays anything. The initial screen will play content sporadically, but I am only interested in the latest newscast information that you broadcast. Please fix soon or I will delete the app

Male ED commercials. Far too many male ED commercials. I understand you got to pay the bills but are they the only ones paying for commercials?

Need a KCBS App. I was expecting KCBS so that I could receive info on Bay Area emergencies - e.g., live updates on huge Sonoma and Napa county fires. Instead, a steady stream of national news. I can get that elsewhere. We need a KCBS app so we can get urgent local news when out of town. Not a steady repeat of other stuff you already broadcast five times.

Crashing for a week now. Deleted. Reinstalled. Still won’t work.

Crash. I used the app everyday, but every time I try to open recently the app crashes. Seeing other reviews, I tried to delete and reinstall, but continued to crash. Worthless real estate on my phone now.

Best audio news app. This app quickly made it to my iPhone home screen. Very easy to use, and truly well-designed and programmed. There are really only two strong radio news organizations these days, in my opinion: CBS Radio and National Public Radio. Each approaches news on the hour about the same. The differences come in the two networks' other programming offers. NPR is great with the long-form. CBS, given they serve commercial stations, have a lot of short programs that are exceptional. Bill Whitney's "Sidebar", Harley Carnes' "Not Just Another Story", Harry Smith's "Just A Minute", and many others are short, informative and well-produced. The way this app serves them up, they are great quick bites of stories and commentary you might otherwise miss. You can always find an NPR station, it seems. CBS Radio News affiliates are all over as well, but often are on lower-powered AM signals. When I am in the car in south central Wisconsin, I can pull in WBBM-AM from Chicago for CBS News. But even when close to Madison, it is hard on most radios to get their weak-signaled local affiliate. As a long-time listener over three decades living in Chicago, I am happy to have an app that offers so much from CBS Radio News. And you can't beat the price: free.

Why update?. The previous version was clearer, less cluttered. You open the app now and something/someone is talking at you. I prefer to choose what I want to listen to, with a clear menu that offers choices when I log in. This update does not give you that chance. Who is it that is turning stable and serviceable apps into mazes that must be conquered? I love CBS news and you had a great app. Now you have one that is cutsie. Congrats to the nerd who concocted this mess and who just knew the rest of us would see the world like he does. Wrong.

Poor quality app. Unless I’m at home or some other high speed portal, the refuses to fully load. There are many other buggy issues with this which makes it difficult to listen to the top and bottom of hour newscasts. But these problems have been going on for years, so it shows me CBS just doesn’t care. :(

Update or not. Updated the version on my iPhone 5s 7.1 and left the old one on iPod. Both seem to work ok. I use on my bus commune daily and seems fine. Noticed new version has a news summary on occasional starts. Found you can skip straight to live radio by pressing pause and play to skip summary :) still get to listen to my 60 minutes podcast downloads so still happy

Gone from CarPlay display?!. This app no longer shows up in CarPlay as of iOS 13.

Very good but could be great .... Great content but the app would benefit from: A time slider which would allow listener to fast forward and rewind, as well as displaying total time and elapsed time for each clip. Retention of older clips for all shows and for a longer period of time (I'd be interested in hearing what the lead story was earlier in the day, or hearing Eye on Washington from the previous day, etc.) Inclusion of additional features, like Dave Ross and The Osgood Report. A weekly program guide for regular programming on the live feed. Some “fun” items, such as the promos for the coming weekend's sports programming, e.g. College and NFL Football on Westwood One. You are well on the way to a 5-star rating. I hope this feedback helps!

Enjoy CBS Radio News. Like others, great when traveling. Would like to see a list of local CBS News stations to listen to in the rental car or even tied to Google Maps or GPS function for closest station.

Hate the ads!. I would gladly pay for version of this app that has NO ads. The daily message from a dating service is particularly annoying. Am about to delete and treat myself to a radio news service that doesn't leave me annoyed first thing in the morning!

New update is awful.. I used to use this everyday. The new interface is clunky and it keeps kicking me to the App Store to buy advertised content... even when I'm not touching the phone. Too many ads overall. Get rid of the twitter and facebook feeds on the home screen. It would be helpful to put key programs on there instead. For example "World News Roundup" and "60 Minutes" are a few tabs back and tough to pull up when driving. I'll get my radio news elsewhere.

Ads, ads, and more ads.. The newscast is larded with advertising; the same ones repeat ad nauseum. Banner ads assault you. A fake email icon flashed incessantly; click on it and you are taken to a web site which you can’t dismiss until you click OK to accept your “free gift”. A list of news items scrolls by, but clicking on one that interests you takes you to a mostly blank screen and silence. Free? Not by a long shot. I’ll stick with NPR, thanks.

It works some of the time. I give this app a low rating because it frequently fails to update. The "Latest Newscast" is frequently empty and the "Listen Live" button has never given me a "Live" stream.

CBS Radio News app. Updated app even better than before (I thought it was already best news app before update). The breaking news and 60 Minutes audio are great.

Great idea but listen live needs improvement. I love CBS radio news and this app gives great options, but listen live needs improvements. In listen live mode hourly newscasts do not broadcast. Needs more of a "live" feel to it.

App does NOT work on 3.1 iOS. The title says it all. If you are running a device that is not running the latest Apple operating system, then this app likely won't work. Tried to use it with the 3.1.3 iOS. And the app just crashes without doing anything. It will run ok on the 4.1 iOS. Too bad as it really is a good news app.

Works great. Listened to the whole election results while shopping in Costco :)

Bugs no more? Top shelf. When it works, it's fantastic. GUI is beautifully done. If its bi-polar functioning settles down, easily one of the best news apps available.

Too many ads!. I do not like the new update. It throws way too many full screen ads in your face. Sometimes 3 at a time. I'm pretty sure CBS doesn't need to throw ads in your face to make some money. Just play a commercial in the audio instead of crippling the app with annoying banner ads!

Car play broken. Car play used to work. But now it does not. I finally noticed The app on my phone was trying to play and ad and was stuck. Please fix!

Wish this wasn't so glitchy! Could be great with a fix update.. Great idea, but super glitchy. 1. Shuts off (mutes) before playing entire news cast. 2. Volume level is very inconsistent--one segment will be too soft and then the next will be way too loud. 3. Wish it played the complete, current hourly news update first, then went into the random news stories. Now it may play a few seconds to a minute of the hourly before going news lotto.

Great app if the looping ads would stop. I really enjoy this app. However, I get a lot of cases where an ad will pop up, I hit the X, only to have the same ad pop up immediately. This loops over and over and has been happening more often in the last few days.

Good idea that needs work. The double audio problem is not fixed. Even with the app offscreen, the Verizon ad plays in the background unless you kill the app completely. I look forward to the app working correctly as I like the concept of having on demand access to the hourly network newscasts.

Amazing. Add more content and I'll listen to it. This is just like the 80s when my dad and I would tune in to wcbs and hear old man Reagan hold forth!!! Big ups!!!

CBS radio news. This is the best news app I've found. Love it!

Ads interrupting newscasts. App used to be great. I can deal with an occasional as at the beginning, but now ads are voice-driven ads are taking place in the middle of newscasts (such as World News Roundup), resulting in two voices being heard at the same time. Really unacceptable

No FF? No resume?. App is worth what you paid for it. Great for round ups, god forbid if you have to quit midway through 60 minutes, no way to get back to where you were.

Used to be better. I used to use this app practically everyday. It was a great way to catch up on news updates. The update on October 27th or 28th changed that. The user interface is now absolutely horrible and worse yet, the app crashes while repeatedly forcing ads and opening up the app store. A real shame. I will be looking for a new app to get the news.

The content does not load, making the app worthless.. I love CBS radio KCBS. It is a staple in my life. So when I heard there was a CBS radio news app I was excited. The first time I downloaded the app it worked with out any problems. Since that time the content fails to load. Please fix the app so I can change the rating to five stars!

Great news coverage but..... Great news coverage but this app needs an upgrade that limits the amount of ads played. It has a lot of bugs that crash and stop the streaming. Please fix or provide an alternative.

Doesn't work!!!. When I go to a category like 60 minutes for example it refreshes and nothing shows up to choose from. The live stream audio doesn't work either!

Terrible for CarPlay. I thought this might have been a good app for listening to news updates in my car using CarPlay, but 90% of the time, all I get is an error message that reads, "There was a problem loading this content". I don't bother using it anymore and will be deleting it.

Solid app. Solid app for listening to CBS radio news on demand or streaming live.

Great content, old world American radio. If you are looking for just the news in short bursts with no traffic or weather or ads look no further. Great old fashion american radio flavor. None of the local, right wing or or PBS in depth everyday radio.

Wish it was kept current. It's a nice app, but I wish they paid more attention to it. It seems like it's the app they update when they have time. The "World News Roundup" streaming today is 5 days old! So if you want a broadcast of old news, it's perfect.

Hourly Newscasts. Any way we could get the full hourly newscasts instead of only the first three minutes?

Good start but room for improvement.. This app is a great way to hear the unmatched reporting of CBS News Radio on demand. In the next version it would be nice to have one touch access to the latest hourly newscast, a larger archive of newscasts and the ability to rewind and fast-forward.

My favorite way to stay informed. App works great. A lot of options for information. Great reporting. Indispensable app.

Frustrating to Use. This app is supposed to work with Apple CarPlay but it constantly hangs up, won't play if my phone is locked & randomly shuts down. Also, the excessive ads are ridiculous, especially the full screen ads which require you to touch your phone to close them. Lately, the app CONSTANTLY redirects you to the App Store to download a game which is maddening because it minimizes the CarPlay interface. Total waste of time to download.

Go back to older version. I was so enjoying this app until today I find they changes it. Now it is all flash and glitter. And the splash screen that advances for you is silly or just stupid. I can pick when I want to page over so stop!!!! It was so good, not so now.

Good App Overall. Great concept that needs improvement. Mostly during Car Mode when you double tap for Weather and you get error message saying it's only available within the USA when I live in Georgia

Great app.. Great to listen to. Has an audio rebroadcast of the tv world news. Only gets choppy when I'm in areas that don't have a great cell signal which is kind of expected.

Bothersome. Surprisingly low tech.. I like being able to listen to the first part of a five minute newscast. But the app is slippery and takes one to various places without warning. AND one gets the opportunity to listen to seemingly endless advertising and promos.

inaccessible for voiceover users. this app was never tested with voiceover running which is why none of its button labels speak when moving or tapping them with voiceover running. Best for the software house to avoid bidding for government work since the developers do not do Section 508 of the americans with disabilities act or the Section 508 Preamble.

Volume Control Bug. The CBS Radio News iPhone/iPod Touch app needs to link its volume controls with the iOS' main volume controls. Please fix this as soon as possible, whoever developed this informative news app.

Meh. It's nice to have the radio news available on demand, but it'd be really nice if you could skip forward or back. Losing signal means it drops the newscast, and if you were in the last 2 minutes, you get to listen to everything before that again. 2 stars, could be a heck of a lot better.

Wish I hadn't Updated. Being a news junkie this is a must have app. With that being said, the new update is a disaster as far as I am concerned. It takes at least 1 to 2 minutes to just get to the hourly news podcast, having to navigate through useless pop-up ads, of kids games, lots of BS. I wish I could get the old version back.

Current version 👎👎. I primarily use this app in the car. Obtrusive video ads and auto opening of the App Store for even more ads eat costly cellular data and cause unnecessary distraction while driving. Wish I could go back to the previous version without all the ads. One ⭐️

Love it BUT.... I love this app. I use it daily to catch up on news when I'm working. However, it's super glitchy. It randomly shuts off. I have to open the app twice to start it - the 1st time the app just hangs on an intro screen. Please fix this! Thanks for fixing the issue with the freezing game ads.

Repetitive. They claim to be the "breaking news source"- what a joke. They play the same stories over and over again. You will hear the same news story several times in an hour. Certain segments, like CEO Watch and Tech Watch, will run the same story for a week. Based on these repeat, focused stories, it seems more like paid advertisements placed as news. Good only for white noise in the background.

Strongest news app yet.. Like the breaking news feature.

Ads Galore. What a horrible app. You get between 1-4 news stories, then it's an endless stream of ads, many of which start to repeat (especially the ads for the CBS TV shows). How do they expect anyone to continue using this when there's so little news content? Two sessions were enough, I'm deleting this loser.

They ruined it with new updates.. I originally gave this app 4 stars. Then the updates came. Now it opens the App Store 10 times in a row making this app almost unusable. The only thing is does well is play a commercial when it opens. No thanks.

They ruined it. This app used to be great for picking up the news, especially the News Roundup, when I couldn't use a radio. Since the last update it plays endless commercials, ONE update and multiple "This Day In Music History" reports. I don't care about music history that much. I go to CBS for news and can't even get that from them now. I'm deleting this app permanently.

Few bugs. Love the idea. Has potential to be one of my most used apps. One big fix needed is that the next news story won't begin unless the app is in the foreground. Needs a fix to run continually in the background. Hope the bugs get worked out and this could be awesome.

Love It!. I have to say at first I work for CBS News. Never the less, I love this app. As a news junkie it is nice to always get the most recent news first and the breaking news function is relay informative. It is just nice to check in and hear the most recent or listen for a while and get a host of great content.
