California Road Report App Reviews

California road report. Initially loved this app. Used it and relied on it for information as I commuted 4 hrs a day. Then stopped working since now it a pay app., which I fully understand and willing to pay for such a fine app, however they had absolutely had no problem accepting my money and now it doesn’t work. Begins to load then drops back to Home Screen. Highly disappointed.

Fix Cameras. Can someone please start checking the videos, I’ll travel along SR 152 and the camera has been temporary unavailable for months now. There is another camera on the same route that has a messed up screen. I like to use this app as I drive two hours each way for work but with the cameras unavailable, I shouldn’t even bother with this app!

Great for Trucking. I love this app! I’m a truck driver and I use it all the time to see if there is chain control over Donner Pass! I was so disappointed when there was an update and you got rid of the ability to check each highway by its route number, such as I-5 or I-80, thank you for bringing that back with the highway button/icon! The only thing that seems to be missing is the location arrow that let’s you zoom in or highlight the areas that you are currently in. I really liked that feature as I can’t use my fingers to find myself on the map while I’m I’m driving. If you could add that back I’ll give you 5 Stars! (Update) Thank you for adding the location arrow back, loving your app and appreciate that you actually care about the users of your app! Great job! Also, there should be more 5 star ratings, this app does what it’s supposed to!

Love this app for traveling. I love this app, i have been using this app for 5 or so years. I travel a lot over Donner Pass on I-80 and it is important to know what the weather conditions are, what road hazards there are, and specifically where the chain check points are. Not only could you read what’s going on they have cameras all around California that allow you to see live what’s happening in that spot. The updates of information have always been quick and close to real time. This is the best app to use if you travel in California or over the mountain!

Really up to date and current. Literally was told by chain control guys to download it as the highway was closed in the Tahoe area. As I pulled over downloaded and opened the app I read the highway was just opened and was able to turn around and hop right back on. I otherwise would have driven back on the highway & waited in the traffic again. Worth the download!!! Also bring the chain control dudes pizza.

AWESOME!. I’m all about planning ahead, especially when it comes to road travel. I needed an app that will give me reliable information when I need it and this app lives up to it. I love that it includes road cameras along the route I intend going and driving in snow for the first time has name a little weary. So I need some type of reassurance that my trips with my family will be safe and enjoyable. Highly recommend to all fellow travelers

WHERE ARE THE HIGHWAY CAMERAS?!?! This app WAS great until I installed the latest update yesterday. Now when I select highway cameras, there’s nothing there (says “0”) I really relied on the visual especially of those highways in the high country. Such a bummer not to have them. Please bring them back! I downloaded this app the other day as we were planning a trip over Donner Summit and I wanted to stay on top of the road conditions. Each time I checked, the info was current with the requirement for chains/snow tires and the storm conditions. The app is easy to navigate. You choose from the list of either interstate highways, state highways or other roads. You then get up to the minute conditions. Perfect! I also like that you can link to the highway cameras that are available for that highway to get a visual of conditions. Also, information is provided for rest stops and what amenities are available. Thanks for a great, reliable app!!

App not working. As others have stated, the App isn’t working for me either. I have it loaded an iPhone 12 and Samsung S21. Neither work more than just showing the map. I’ve sent an email to the developer but got no response. This is a great app when it’s working.

Use this app all the time. Very handy for short or long road trips. Useful even for short city trips, especially if it’s rainy. Gives you the chance to change routes before you’re stuck in traffic, and no where near an off ramp.

The Best Road Report.. With the latest update, including Dark Mode, this is my favorite and most accurate California road report. Developer is responsive and regularly updates app. This update hands down is the best and works perfectly for night driving. Excellent. Thank you!

Excellent application. I have been using the Carr App for several years now and I love it. Before leaving home I always check for accidents or other incidents. When my family travels I am always checking the road conditions to let them know in case they didn’t realize.

Best app for CHP. This is hands down the best app out there for looking at Chp incidents. I have used it for years. Thank you for it!!! Only thing I would change is where you double tap and hold down and swipe up or down for zoom in or to zoom out. Just like on the Apple maps app or the google maps app. If it had that ... it would be even more epic

CARR started crashing. This is such a great app to use while traveling on the road. However the app started crashing for no reason, I tried to use it with a different phone and it still crashes every time when I open the app. Please advise if this can be resolved.

New UI. I used to love this app and used it daily. I am just not liking the new UI release. The incidents aren’t easily accessible and not limited to my former 60 mile radius setting. It may be operator error but I’m not finding it to be intuitive, sorry

Saves the Day!. We live in a small rural village in the High Sierra at 7600’ surrounded by 8000’ passes. Weather and driving conditions are always tricky. Just going to the doctor or hardware store can take over an hour and that’s to get to a town only 20 miles down the road. I use CRR in bad weather any time I go somewhere. Maps are fine but California Road Report actually lets me know what’s going on and what the road conditions are. Checking Carr is just as important as carrying an emergency road kit and extra water.

No more notifications. Loved this app until a few weeks ago when we (husband has it too) stopped getting notifications about CHP incidents. Looking at the update info, it seems this has now been moved to a “paid recurring subscription” option. Since I’m not big on opening an app every 20 mins to see what’s new (as opposed to getting a Lock Screen notification), this app is no longer useful to me. I’d pay a one time fee but not a monthly/yearly subscription fee just to get notifications.

Good app, but incorrect info. I have enjoyed this app & the help it gives when we are traveling Due to health issues I am having, it seems that we are making 3-4 hour one way trips several times a month. During these trips, I need to plan bathroom breaks. Incorrect info on I5 Rest Stops impacts me; when the rest stop is closed for months, yet the app shows it is open, well, that “hurts”. I have tried to send an email to the app developer, but it comes back Undeliverable. Ouch!!

Must Have!. This app makes planning trips so much easier, especially if you aren’t on the major freeways most of the time! Knowing what is up ahead, such as accidents or road work, lets me save time by alternating routes, rather than sitting in traffic!

App is down a lot, crashes, and now doesn’t work. This app is down a lot of the time, where it won’t display anything (just an empty map.) Over the last few months it’s gotten worse and worse. I decided to erase the app and restore it. When I reopen the app it crashes in the first five seconds. I erased and reinstalled it again and the same thing. Wouldn’t even let me log in or restore my purchase. So sad to see this app failing because it’s such a great idea for an app and super useful. I hope it gets fixed, but I have a feeling it won’t.

One of the first apps on my iPhone. Installed this app many years ago as one of the first apps. And somehow lost during migration from phone to phone. Recently installed it again and very happy with the new functionality (cameras). Thank you for supporting your app!

What happened to the color bars for traffic flow conditions??. Bought a new iPhone, loaded the app and the color bars are not on the app for traffic flow conditions. I use this app exclusively for knowing driving conditions and the color bars were a great help in knowing what was ahead for traffic conditions, but now they’re not there. Is it just a glitch on my phone, or is it something that was changed??? Either way, the app is still 5 Stars to Me.

Hasn’t been working. Hasn’t been working for the past month which is really sad because it used to be my favorite app.

Updated. Although the initial update left this app useless, there has since been another update which is much more user friendly. You can now sort by distance, or even by CHP area. Thanks for the fix!

CA Camera. Love, Love, Love this App. So helpful to view road conditions. Allows me to see what things are like on the highways. Gives me the opportunity to know what I am about to encounter if I choose to drive on the highway 50; or, any other California Highways. Snow, Rain, Fires or highway backups can be seen on the camera sites.

Disappointed. I originally switched to this app years ago because the other app stopped working. Are used this out in the field and it was working great… Nice and brainless. You turn it on, you get your info, you turn it off. However, the developer redesign the app and it seems like it takes forever to load and only 1/4 of the time it actually works the way it supposed to. I had to download another app just so I could have something at work. And after several updates over several months, seems to be the same. This app is now officially deleted off my phone.

What’s going on?. What’s going on for the past few weeks? This app is not working at all and they keep shutting off. When it is on, it’s not showing any accidents or road closures. Is there an update?

It gets better and better. I have reviewed this app before. I do not understand anyone who give it less than 5 stars. ItThis a great app for those of us on the road here in California. Adam continues to add features and make improvements. He is also responsive to the extreme to suggestions. works better than the few alternatives and is invaluable where I live. Great app, evolution of a developer. This a great app, I use it almost daily. It’s been fun to watch the app improve over the years. While not all updates have been stellar user experience improvements, and sometimes a bit backwards, all the setbacks have been temporary and I’m happy to use it almost daily. Congrats on a great app and keep it up, I’m a fan!

Useless after update. So many problems with this update! Nothing makes sense with the new UI. Clicking on some incidences only makes the map zoom, but won’t open the details of the incidence. The app also apparently thinks I’m currently in LA, but I can’t find any settings or options. There are no helpful instructions. Sorting by distance only shows me things 324 miles away and turns on driving mode, which activates an immediate loud voice (very uncool). I used to use this app to check for accidents and road conditions because it was easy to see a list and map of any potential issues. Now I guess I’ll just have to use Waze for that too. Will delete the app in a few days if it’s not updated again, but I am not feeling too optimistic. Sadly, it’s really, really bad.

Returning User. Pleasantly surprised to find this APP has been upgraded to work on current Apple devices. Now the issue - though SFO is a reality nice place - the default opening of this APP to the SFO area is annoying. There are other communities / geographic areas of interest / concern to Users. As I attempt to move the map to the area of interest - the map disappears. All that is shown are the incident reference points. The map may reappear….. or I may need to re-start the APP. Suggestion - consider a way to “tag” location(s) / geographic area(s) of regular interest or concern, thus allowing for a more rapid acquisition of related and relevant information.

This info in Bunk. Saw that the only way out of my community was closed due to a sinkhole. The closure was marked clearly in the map at the intersection of San Pasqual and 78, 2 miles from my home. Suspicious since no one was whining on NextDoor app so I drove to the intersection in question to investigate whether I’d be able to head out for work in the morning. I drove 2 a mile in each direction from that intersection and there are no closures and no sinkholes. I also noticed that all of the entries in the road report list had the wrong cities for the intersections listed. Do better.

App has stopped working. Used this app for many years and loved it. Always worked perfectly, very reliable and helpful. In the past few days, it has completely stopped working. Does not show any data - no incidents, cameras, rest stops, etc. Would really like to know if this is going to be fixed.

A Valuable Tool !!!!!. We use this constantly at work (Fire Dept) to confirm location at details of collisions. I was not working for a while but the developer fixed it… Way better to use than CHP incidents on a website.

CA Road Report. I love the app when it worked for a week. I have downloaded and paid for it twice annually, but it opens and immediately closes. I have turned my phone off. Deleted the app and reloaded it. I sent an email regarding this purchase to the developer. I hope to hear from him soon. My phone is updated with the latest software.

Still love this app. I finally opened this app for the first time this season to check chain control and was surprised to discover the subscription model had been implemented for things that were usually free. I initially balked, for about five minutes... then remembered that I had been using the app for years for free, so the small yearly fee didn’t seem unreasonable and I signed up. I live in the mountains, so I normally use this app for chain control notifications and CHP incidents along the long mtn highways to prevent me from driving to the bottom of the mountain, only to discover a crash and closed road at the bottom. It works great, especially in driving mode when it reads the incidents out to you. The app does other things too, but I’ve never used those features so I don’t know how well they work. But if you live or travel in snowy conditions, this is the easiest way to find chain conditions, and is well worth the yearly fee for this feature alone.

Many, many safe winter trips over the donner pass. Ive used this app for at least a few years and depend on it very much. I just drove over in a blizzard with 6 grandchildren in the car—i checked the app and cameras all night before. I cant even imagine not having this to depend on—i highly recommend it to everyone i know

Stopped working. The app basically stopped working the moment I signed up for the premium subscription. I have reloaded it several times, and only get the yellow or red lines indicating traffic slowdowns; no details, no incidents, and most frustrating zero chain control updates which is the feature I most rely on in the winter. If there isn’t an improvement once the two week trial period is complete, I will cancel my subscription. This had been one of the best traffic apps available. Sad.

Use to use this. It’s crap now.. I use this use this in the course of my dispatching as I am a tow truck dispatcher. It provided great updates for my drivers during the course of their calls. Now I can’t even find an incident that is actually IN our area. The stupid map circle doesn’t work. I do not need to know what in the world is occurring in South Lake Tahoe. I need to know my immediate area like I use too. Please spare me the cookie cutter reply I’ve seen on every review. You broke something that didn’t even require fixing. A lot of people relied on this app. I’ll be looking for a different app. -a disappointed dispatcher

was amazing for years !!. just recently, I noticed that no incidents were coming up and the app would force close. I’ve been using this thing for so many years and I had so many people get it. Hopefully, they can resolve this issue.

Great, but faults. This app is great for viewing closed roads and viewing incidents, however I’d estimate 95% of the time the camera view functions do not work. Sometimes the camera are down, but a majority of the time they simply don’t load or are just a black screen. Full service bars, wifi, etc. Great idea but needs some fine tuning.

Awesome to have chain control notifications. Love that this app sends sound and lockscreen notifications when chain control goes into affect and when it is lifted. Also extremely handy that you can see the chain control level (R1-R2-R3) displayed with the icon without having to click on the icon to find out. Thanks to the developer for fast responses to my suggestions.

Love this app!. I’ve had this app on my phone for many years. Prior to downloading it I had the CHP site bookmarked to a screen, but had to deal with full site info on a small screen. Over the years this thing just keeps getting better. Traffic incidents (including response times and actions), rest stop locations (and whether opened or closed), chain requirements, traffic cameras (many of them live streaming), and road closures. If an incident isn’t showing on this app it is also absent on the CHP incident page. All this information is available on various sites if one takes the trouble to hunt for it, but it’s all here in an easy to use app. This app has had some ups and downs, but the developer responds to questions and suggestions in a timely manner and puts effort into its improvement. Personally, I end up wasting short stretches of time looking at the various traffic cams...especially during snow events.

Adam are you okay?. We absolutely hate writing this!!! CARR has been invaluable to our team for reporting road conditions in our mountain communities. However, we’ve sent multiple emails to support and contact with zero response and zero fixes to the app. Does anyone know another way to reach Adam to see if he’s okay?

Driving Mode Change. The recent version of driving mode no longer has the miles filter. I wish it would go back to the ability to set a filter like 5 miles and 10 miles. The new closet setting could stay as a choice but the ability to have those original settings made this app great!

App change. Prior to the App change, I was able to access the road cameras easily. This was something I appreciated as I travel over the Sierra often. Since the change, it is hit or miss whether or not the cameras show up. This has always been a good App that I relied on, but now it’s not as reliable as in the past.

Update. Ever since the update it is not very good. in a week I use this app prob over 300x a week in my work field and so do my co workers they also are complaining, we all know it will not be changed back but it’s worth a try I will be uninstalling it unless you provide a link to get rid of update again it’s not as it needs to be I’m involved in Law-Enforcement so pretty much a tool for us!!

Fix the App. I love this app. I pay for it now, I pay for the premium subscription, it’s inexpensive, not happy with it anymore, it’s not working way too often. All I see is the red and yellow traffic. No red triangles for the incidents and it will be this way for 2 or 3 days. I check to see if my subscription is still valid and it is. App keeps crashing or whatever. Please fix it. I like it better than any others when it’s working! 😊

Got too big for its britches. Should have never started charging for it. My husband and I have used this app for years. He is a truck driver and we relied on the app everyday for info. on incidents and road info for re-routing as needed or able. Now as of about a month or so ago it became unreliable and now useless. We even tried subscribing but now it just crashes as soon as you open it. Put it back to its original form and maybe ask for donations or your going to loose all the followers you did have due to greed.

Roadways. I am a log truck driver I love your app good to know when we need chains and stuff only thing I recommend is explaining chains more to people maybe even throwing something in there on how to chain their vehicles up explaining to them just because there’s no chains required doesn’t mean you can drive faster because a four-wheel-drive does not mean You will not slide out. Explain the cautions of winter weather And why semi trucks go slower due to winter conditions. other than that perfect app. Thanks again

Nice, but... Review Revision. What happened to the glossary? The incident details made more sense when I could look at what they were talking about. Example - what is 1124? The rest is different, nice looking, but navigable. I agree with another review about driving mode... the voice is loud, even when I have the volume down. Revision - I heard from the developer who said “The glossary button will always show up when you tap a CHP incident.” So I opened the app to try that. If you tap on the icon of an incident, there is not a glossary button. When you tap the 3 parallel lines (top right corner edge of the map) the map switches to list mode. In the top right corner is the glossary button. I do recall having to tap out of the incident to look at the glossary before these changes.

Doesn’t work anymore!. Don’t know if it was the update from Apple or what but the app does not work at all for me anymore on my iPhone or iPad. Up until that point the app was amazing and used it all the time now it either doesn’t load all the information and cameras, or it just shuts off on its own. Sent an email to the developer contact and no response.

Needs an update. I haven’t used this app in quite some time. I recently tried to start using it again and it forced closes every time I try to open the app. Looking at other recent reviews it seems that many others are having the same problem. Please update or fix bugs.

Live camera. Is there any way to get more pics from the camera on highway 299 berry summit? Also if you can look into the camera on highway 299 lord Ellis summit it’s been down for years it would be very helpful make sure you have regular updates

Can’t find what I need. I live in a rural area I’m only interested in what’s going on in my area I do not travel on the main freeways. I used to be able to find incidents in my area now I can’t find them at all or they’re mixed in with all of the major freeway incidents. How can we fix this or can we go back to the old version?

What happened. For some reason I no longer get the highway cameras, incidences etc. this is my go to traffic app but now it only shows traffic nothing else. Can you fix this problem? Normally I would give a 5 star rating but now I can only give it 1 star…

Does what it meant to do!. Simple, easy to use and pretty much includes everything that I need on that particular app. Chain control, construction, incidents, rest stops and road cameras. Please just keep it simple like it is. Thanks

Check every morning. I check this app every morning before I leave for work. Or when I see law enforcement running with lights and sirens

No CHP incidents being reported?. It’s not showing any CHP activity. Only road construction. I’ll be at work and three Highway Patrol cars will go tearing down the road lights flashing and sirens wailing and then I check the app, nothing. Clearly somethings going on...and I’d like to know what it is. That’s the only reason I got the app. The previous version did this just fine. I wish I could downgrade to that one.

Pretty darn handy. With all the construction in NorCal I just check my routes and there is no surprises. Cameras and chain control also. Highly recommend this for all travelers.

Now a paid subscription. I work for a state agency and this used to be my go to app when working on the highway. Recently updated to the current version only to discover that the app is now a PAID SUBSCRIPTION. Too bad as the original CARR app was great. Looks like the Caltrans ‘QuickMap’ app is my new go to as it provides everything and a little more than the CARR app. Better yet is that it is FREE.

One of my most used apps. But lately has become useless. Continually getting error message “There was a problem getting road reports. Please try again” i’m forced to use Caltrans Quick Map. Clicking support uses email and defaults to the Mail app that I don’t use. When the app works it’s 5 stars, but lately barely one. Frustrating!

Not working as it should. I’ve been using this app for some years now, started paying the annual fee last year and all was working correctly. First time I use it this year to check cameras and chain control I find that I can’t see either of these on the map.

App is no longer working. I finally decided to purchase the subscription late last week after using the app for a few years. I noticed the app stopped showing the incidents on Saturday and I sent a request for assistance on Sunday and then again on Monday. I have not received a response to my inquiry, which I found odd, since Adam had been very responsive to issues I have had in the past. In addition to California, I have the Oregon and Nevada road report apps which are not working either. Fortunately, I was in the free trial period and was able to cancelled my subscription.

Not showing traffic patterns. I upgraded to premium and paid the 7.99 and I do not know how to get my screen to show my mirrors read for traffic stoppage and orange for congestion. I do get cameras, road closures and incidents, but not traffic patterns.

Useful. CARR is a very useful tool for traveling in California. Highly recommend downloading and using it to plan ahead when driving.

Love the app but its a bit broken. Ever since I had the app, i've been able to look at every CHP incident and have been loving it since, but now its broken and can't view a single incident or look at anything else like rest stops, cameras, and closures. Please fix this because this app is SUPER useful. Thank you for making this app!

New version. Horrible. Why did you mess with a perfectly good app. You now need a PhD to use this app. I have no idea how to navigate and find incidents. You could have at least provided some simple Instructions.

So cool!. This app actually does what it says. Amazing! View chain controls and traffic cams for any area on map. Easy to use too.

Unhappy with new update. I am not one to write a review, but I felt a need to express my concerns. Like many this was one of my favorite apps, I used it daily before getting on the freeway. I would click on recent incidence and it showed me immediately if there were any wrecks. Now I just get a big map that I have yet to figure out. I am hoping that with future updates you will bring back the recent incidence part!!

Love this apps, until the last update. 5/19. This is a really great app to use, a lot of useful information very up to date, I use it daily. Unfortunately the last update the app has not been working.

Love the app but worthless with the subscription. Love the app! It works great UNTIL you sign up for the subscription- it crashes, won’t show any incidents (even as you are watching CalFire fight a fire right down the road or have seen incidents 2 seconds before subscribing), and is just an icon on the screen. Save your money and just enjoy the free version

Cameras. Lately I’ve been having a problem not being to the cameras on the roadways. Everything else works but the cameras. Please help. Thank you.

Missing the red pins. This was one of my favorite go to apps before the update. I am missing the red pins and find this version confusing. Not a fan. I haven’t quite figured it out yet and wonder if l’m missing something or if I can no longer use the app as I did before with the pin drops. 5 star app just dropped to 2

Great App. I’m so so happy I found this app! I have to commute sometimes to a office in the mountains and this app gives me piece of mind by telling me exactly how the road conditions are and if chains are needed.

Terrible update. This is my first review of an APP ever. The recent update to the CARR APP is so bad I’m taking time to write a review. Don’t waste your time downloading this app. The last version was perfect, easy to read, showed a list of incidents that you could categorize by area or distance. Now you get a map that you have to click on an incident to see, rather then a list of all incidents in the nearby area’s.

Error message. I love this app and have used it for years with no problems. It’s so very helpful. Now since yesterday, it gives me an error message and won’t load anything. I’ve reinstalled it and restarted my phone but nothing helps. I sure hope it gets fixed soon. I need this app!

Very handy when going to Tahoe in the winter. I love this app it's very handy and easy to use. Especially nice to have a little traffic stops on highway 80 at least you can see what's going on quickly and easily!

Good app but... Maybe for the next update make it to where it works with dark mode.. when you try to view information by highway, you can’t see the list with dark mode enabled. Thank you.

Performance. This app doesn’t seem to be working as it did before. Cameras, chain control don’t seem to be working any longer and I even upgraded to the premium to see if that would make a difference

Traffic map. The best traffic and incident web site I have found and used

Very helpful app ... awesome. Thank you for your response Adam. I rely on your app before and during every trip. I live high up in the Sierras and go to the Bay Area with your app giving me a heads up for the 200 miles each way. Great work.

Not working. My CARR app is no longer working. It opens and then immediately closes. I have an iPhone 15 Pro. I’ve restarted my phone deleted the app and reinstalled. Still not working.

Why don’t I see pins after the update?. The widget shows the incidents but the app no longer does

Bad update. I’ve really liked using this app until the most recent update. Very hard to use while driving. Not user friendly. I liked being able to bring up a list of incidents nearby but I can’t do that now. Please bring the list option back. Appreciate the efforts and like the cameras and rest stop locations.

Hate the update. Loved the old app. Hate the all new version. Now, menus no longer intuitive, can no longer easily and quickly to to a list of nearby CHP incidents and their real time report updates. No longer useful, have deleted it.

No incidents.. Since the last two updates I don’t get the incident tabs anymore. Not worth having with out the incident tabs. Will wait until the next update before removing it from my phone.

Kelly. We love this app when we go on long trips. It’s easy to access the camera and the alerts to incidents gives us time to find alternate routes. Thanks CARR

4 stars because it’s awesome. I gave it four stars because of how awesome it runs and refreshes! It works great! What would give it five stars would be, being able to see street camera at the intersections for those accidents and traffic issues.

From 5 stars to ZERO after update. The new update is not good. The list of incidents is anywhere from 100 to 1,700 miles away from my current location even though location services is turned on. So sad when something isn’t broken, yet someone tries to fix it needlessly, because this used to be a wonderful app...but not anymore.

New version is not good. It doesn’t give a accurate traffic report how is traffic and how far is back up is on frwy it use to be a great app it doesn’t work even when you pay for the year it shuts off goes back to Home Screen can’t use it when needed

Help. I can’t get the App to work. I’ve deleted and added numerous times but it drops out constantly. When I go to support… it just brings me to a map. This is not a review as I love this app and it always worked, I just can’t get it to work now or get any support.
