K MANGA Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

No subscription and excessive censorship. The prices are outrageous. In some cases I’ve seen, more expensive than buying a physical volume. On top of that, there is no subscription model like their biggest competitor, VIZ. The person making these decisions must be as greedy as they come or asleep at the wheel. Edit: Oh my gosh the censorship! I can’t believe you expect people to buy a product that is so half baked. Black boxes over EVERYTHING that could be even the least bit controversial. Disrespectful to consumers and manga artist. Disgusting behavior all around. Not only will I not support this app, I will stop buying physical copies as well. Guess we’ll always have VIZ.

Incredibly convoluted system. I was cautiously looking forward to this app, but unfortunately it’s even worse than I expected. They really didn’t everything on the Japanese side without taking any input from a single international fan. This is sad because they have a US division that has been operating for years now, but it seems they didn’t even bother with consulting them. The affiliates system to earn points is scummy, and even worse than the worst gacha out there. How did they even think it was a good idea to put the mangakas’ hard work behind such horrible schemes. Subscribe to Norton to get points to read manga? Install this suspicious app and subscribe to earn points? Really? It’s very sad. Hopefully someone is reading these reviews and telling their boss this was a horrible idea and that they should go back to the drawing board. I just feel sad for those who will spend money on an app that’ll inevitably get shut down sooner than later.

Such a disappointment. I really really really want to like this app. I really do and I’ve been waiting for something like this for a while. Kodansha has so many great titles but they just completely dropped the ball with this. New chapters are locked behind a point/ticket system and you have to watch adds or do sponsored quests(aka go buy products) to unlock if you don’t want to spend money. Instead of a subscription service we’re stuck buying coins in order to read chapters that are “free” on the app. Stay as far away as you can

Bad Experience. This is tough. I really was looking forward to using this app to read some of my favorite manga but unfortunately it ends up being about $1 per chapter (which i realize is cheaper than buying the books) or trying to get free points by filling out surveys which i didnt even attempt. This app reminds me of early 2000s scams where you “won a tv, but you need to answer 5 surveys first” it feels and looks bad. The app is unnecessarily bloated with micro transactions and scammy ads. I would love a simple app that i pay a subscription each month like viz and shonen. Unfortunately this app was deleted off my phone almost immediately because it is just garbage.

Not an app for fans.. Honestly with the success of both Viz and Shonen Jump both having a subscription under $5 each, there is really no excuse to why K manga has a point system that nobody wants/likes. If there ever is a decent subscription service added to this app then I would gladly redownload but as it stands currently, there is no chance of me keeping and wasting my money. And until the owners/developers realize this, their app will continue to be disliked. There was already a standard of expectation through other apps and services.

Seems pointless. I was reading my manga online somewhere else. Heard about this app and updates will happen here going forward. Cool, come on over to learn of a point and ticket system. That’s fine, as long as everything is fairly cheap with points and tickets it shouldn’t be that bad. The newest chapter I wanted to read was 99 points and the watch a free ad doesn’t give you 50 points, it’s only a chance at 50 points. I watched 3 ads and only got 15 in total so I imagine getting 50 is pretty rare. I looked on the shop to see how much it would be and even tho it’s only a dollar for 148 points and I could read the chapter, I’d rather go look else where for it. Not gonna spend the money to read updates, if new chapters were 5 points it wouldn’t be that bad. This is also only for a manga I currently keep up with, what if I wanted to read something new? Sure they have free chapters but eventually your gonna have to spend points to read farther. Seems like a waste, I’m sure you can find it elsewhere if you look. You can also purchase the books online, purchasing digital chapters isn’t the play.

Disappointed Beyond Belief. I can’t believe they’re using some kind of bizarre point system to read chapters. Maybe that works in other parts of world but this business model does not work in the west. At least if the newest chapters were free it would be ok. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t create subscription service instead of basically charging $1 for each chapter that you read. Whoever decided that this point system was ok isn’t familiar with business practices in other parts of the world. If K manga had some subscription service I was already ready to pay a monthly fee. What makes this look even worse is Viz just released a $2 a month subscription that I didn’t know was coming out the day before this mess! I signed up for Viz immediately. Even if K Manga charged $5 per month it would be acceptable since they offer a lot more new content. One possible solution for the time being is lowering their points to read a chapter from 99 points to 5 points. Having simultaneously translated work is amazing but they need to create a better way to charge for it. They can’t stop piracy if they don’t make it affordable.

Disappointed. Always looking for more ways to officially support the manga industry but this… this ain’t it. Basically requiring watching ads or paying per chapter instead of per volume, an abusive pricing structure for in app points. Daily login rewards to keep you coming back to be more tempted to cave and make purchases and offering free points to read chapters for specific series which is a “glowing” endorsement of the products themselves not to insult any of the manga specifically it just feels weird making people read one thing so that they can earn points to spend on something they’re actually on the app to read. Do better.

The worst manga app i’ve seen…... First off, its so embarrassing that I have to pay money for ONE CHAPTER I don’t understand why they couldn’t of just made us pay a subscription service over us watching ads for chapters. Especially since on this app there are some series you can’t read on anywhere else unless you read it Illegally. The stupid Point and Premium service is so complicated for no reason. They should’ve just gone the Shonen Jump app route….DONT DOWNLOAD THIS APP!

Disappointing to say the least. Was looking forward for this launch, as having simulpub nagatoro sounded awesome. Unfortunately, the app is a mess. Only one free chapter per day per series, otherwise you have watch videos in between chapters or pay around $1 every two chapters. What a garbage system. It should be more like Manga Plus, or have a monthly sub like VIZ does. Super disappointing launch, hope they fix it.

Complete failure of an app. I was hoping this would be a rival to Viz’s manga apps (Viz and Shonen Jump), but was immediately disappointed. Viz charges $1.99 a month to read all of their manga on Shonen jump and some on the Viz app. But this K Manga app uses a point system where points can be bought. Each chapter requires points to unlock and would probably be nearly as much as buying the volumes outright. I suppose it’s just a different business model they’re going for, but still, very disappointed that it’s not just a month fee like Viz.

Disappointing App. I was excited when I found out about Kodansha was going to release an app for many good titles. Unfortunately this app is very bad when it comes to censorship and this gacha game type of system. You would have to spend a dollar to read even a few pages of a chapter. I will not recommend this to anybody, there is a lot better manga services out that do subscription based services and are by much greater than this. Save your money and don’t buy chapters.

A decent app but could be better. I was excited to hear that Kodancha was releasing an official manga app so that some of the series I enjoy I could read legally. Buuuuuttt the moment you open the app you can tell that it’s all about the money for them. Besides the few chapters of series you can read you then have to use a “ticket” to access a chapter for free or pay for it. And sure you can get more tickets for free but you have to watch 30 second or longer adds each time for a lottery chance to get another ticket. I wish they’d just have the membership option like VIZ/Shonin Jump does as I’d prefer a monthly payment to get rid of the adds as to me their app is set up like one of the illegal manga reading apps you can get on here. Oh and there’s no dark mode function.

Subscription?????. So I think its amazing that theres finally a app that will allow you to read official manga on mobile devices. Unfortunately this app misses the mark. Going the point route is pretty dumb and greedy imo. If I wanted to try an new manga out you can read the available chaptets they provided for free which is cool and all but if you want to continue padt that point, have to use point (earn thru tapjoy which I assume is downloading apps, open them for a bit, and wait for point rewards to come in). A app like this would be perfect if they had a monthly and yearly subscription. That way you dont have “ earn or buy” points to own manga that you’ll probably just read once and would fade its existence away in your library… And its more suited for the times. You don’t have to get rid of the points you should also have a subscription based model as well. Have access to all the manga for a monthly fee or yearly. Cancel anytime… and lose access to stuff you would be able to read under the subscription.

The worst of all commerce. Having a points system to read chapters is a horrible, predatory business choice which requires users to shell out huge sums of money to read very few chapters. If you follow more than a couple series they carry (which I do) you’re looking at spending tens of dollars a month just to stay current. So you force us to spend money on points for each chapter and, based on your current prices, averages out to about a dollar a chapter? This is especially egregious when VIZ’s model exists. A low monthly fee to access the entire library, or pay a dollar a chapter to read a chapter. FOR EVERY CHAPTER OF A SERIES. Which would you get? I’m so disappointed especially because they carry at least 8 series I follow. Also, the design makes it look cheap and fake, like I’ll get a virus by clicking in the wrong place.

The Horrendous Japanese Model Strikes Again. Some Japanese publishers do not understand a non-Japanese market. Kodansha, like Square Enix, decided to implement a gamified model for consumption of manga. Similar to Square Enix‘s, Manga UP app, the K Manga app uses a coins/points/tickets model for reading chapters. This is not a subscription based service. The average price for one new weekly chapter is $1, while for a monthly chapter it would be about $2 since they split one monthly chapter into two parts. Viz Media did it right with their Shonen Jump and Viz Media apps. Subscription based models, which let you read everything on the services. All Kodansha had to do was take what Viz Media implemented, and apply it to their own IPs. To summarize Kodansha’s approach with K Manga, this is a Japanese publishing company that wants to expand outside of Japan, but has no understanding of the market outside of Japan or is too stubborn to adapt to a non-Japanese market.

Ahoy Me Hearties. First let me say I always try to support the official release BUT… I was on this app for 10 minutes before I decided this wasn’t worth my time. Yea you do get chapter for free but you also have use a “ticket” or watch a video to read certain chapters. Newer chapters you have buy points. 148 points cost 99 cents and new chapters cost 99 points. So if you want stay up date on a several series you going to have pay up or wait a week. At this point I would just buy the volumes physical or digitally. It’s not worth it. On top of that the interface is awful. It looks like a cheap cellphone game. Everywhere you look it telling you get tickets or earn points. I’m just here to read manga. This shouldn't be this complicated. Viz got this right with the Shonen Jump app and the new Viz app. I suggest getting those apps instead or just do what we’ve been doing for over a decade when we want to stay up to date with a series. Wink wink nudge nudge “ Ahoy Me Hearties”.

Poorly thought out. Probably my least favorite way to read manga. It’s the only way to support my favorite untranslated manga (Hajime no Ippo) for now though so I guess I’m stuck. I can accept they’re trying to make money with the points thing, and I appreciate that they give you a way to slowly accumulate points without paying, but the balance is terrible. You can get maybe ~20 points a day watching ads, and when chapters are ~80 points that’s just too long to wait. I think it’s probably better/cheaper to go elsewhere if you can. The comment feature would be cool, but it’s way too sensitive to bad language, and it’s not always clear why your comment is bad so you don’t know how to fix it. Ippo or no, I don’t know how long I can stick with the service.

Disappointed. I was so excited for Kodansha to finally have a way to access all their mangas but after even just a few minutes neither their system or setup seem to be nearly as nice as VIZ or Shonen Jump. It’s not as “free” as they advertise, which is fine, but instead of allowing a subscription it seems to be earn points (not practical enough to actually enjoy a series) , use tickets to read one chapter a day, or buy individual chapters. I’ll continue exploring it but so far it seems like a lower end setup that had so much potential.

Y’all had one job, Kodansha. So let me save you some time. You get “free chapters” for a set amount of time (5-25ish). After that point you have to purchase “points” to read chapters. 1 point = 1 cent. Most chapters cost 69-99points (69cents-99cents). So if you wanna read say, Blue Lock, You’re gonna be coughing up $200+. The folks over at Viz/Shonen Jump have already established the subscription format and it’s working. If this had a sub, it’d be a success. But since they’ve chosen this asinine “points/ticket” mess… lemme put it this way, for $1.99 you can read 2-4 chapters on K Manga, or you can read 10,000+ chapters on Viz for an entire month. I’ll stick to buying Kodansha books physically, for a couple bucks more I don’t need to jump through hoops and I own my books forever.

I wanted this to succeed. I always look for any legal way to support series I love, but this just isn’t worth it. Confusing monetization system, really bad censorship, and deceptive marketing make this app just a hassle to even use. The fact that they killed so many other way to legally read some of the series on here just to launch this mess of an app in only 1 country is depressing. As Gabe Newel said: “piracy is a service problem” and Kodansha just made the service a lot worse.

Downloaded this app just to leave a review. The practices here are disgusting. Not only does the app require you to buy the chapters, but also has two forms of currency to buy them with: premium tickets and tokens (which cost real money). This wouldn’t be so bad if the manga wasn’t censored. On an app rated 17+. Which, again, you have to buy. Now, you CAN get the he paid currency by watching ads and, at roughly 12 chapters a volume, it IS cheaper to buy each chapter on here. But, if you bought the volume physically, it wouldn’t be censored. Now, you do have alternatives! The Viz Media app is $3 a month, no censorship (though the translation of One Piece is still kinda rough), and comes with Shounen Jump, Jump Plus, and Viz Manga (Dragonball, Naruto, Pokémon, etc.) You do have to buy some series by the volume, older series like Ranma 1/2, but occasionally they do become free (Hunter x Hunter was paid, now it’s free). The other alternative is to sail the high seas which is morally correct when companies do not respect their customers.

Well, it’s an app. And I guess it’s free. Doesn’t make it a good one.. You get what it says on the label: free manga chapters. And they are free - if you don’t mind waiting 24 hours for another Ticket to read just one more chapter. Or if you don’t mind watching a ton of ads or doing affiliate nonsense to get points just to read the latter chapters of a series. If it were subscription based like Viz’s apps, I’d have paid, no problem there, but this is just ridiculous. Convenience is the one of the biggest factors in preventing manga piracy, and someone didn’t get the memo. Just wait this one out and buy the physicals, if you can. It’ll probably be much cheaper and quicker anyways…

Definitely not worth it. Just wanted to say how stupid it was to make this a point/ticket based system. I get not matching shonen jumps similar cheap price since kodansha is offering more titles (a lot more) but you still could’ve went the monthly payment route and pricing it similar to Marvel Unlimited and DC infinite (No more than $10 IMHO). Don’t want to see this app crash and burn but kind of do since y’all wanted to go with this predatory microtransactions like honestly how y’all going to make the tickets we purchase have a expiration date??

Landscape layout for home screen. I love that i can have my iPad propped up and read manga continuously page to page in landscape like i had the physical copies. It makes double page panels spectacular HOWEVER once you exit the manga the home screens force you to go back to vertical until you select another manga to read. I hope in a future update they make it so the whole app can be landscape. Now onto what everyone talks about in the reviews. I'm happy that there is a way to officially support the mangaka on an ereader platform but the mix of currency makes things confusing and frustrating especially when there are several chapters in the middle of a series that will be points only but the chapters previous and following are tickets. Hopefully one day they can switch to a subscriber based model like $0.99/month for 30-60 free chapters so people can keep up with their weekly manga and possibly binge a smaller series or some higher amount to get full access to everything. Other than that the quality is great and the variety is awesome.

It’s functional. I can’t say it’s good, because of the weird ticket system, but at least it’s a legal way to read Kodansha manga on a budget. If you don’t like the series it at least gives you a volume or two to decide if you want to play their ticket/points game or buy the next volumes outright on Kindle or something. It’s comparable to how Viz manga are accessible on their apps.

Overly Complicated / Not Straightforward. This app requires purchasing points, tickets, has nonsense reward system, and a sloppy casino looking layout. I appreciate having access to quick releases to manga I follow; however, I don’t like apps that hide user cost through a messy points system. A straightforward purchase approach with tiered subscriptions that also allows for a-la-carte purchases with actual $$ is better. A simpler layout would also be a improvement rather than an overwhelming app that looks like you landed on an internet spam site. A cross between Kindle/Comixology, Apple Books, and Crunchyroll would be far better than this; hopefully the company rethinks its approach because the app looks like an online gambling app.

Just why?. I was very excited when I heard that Kodansha would have their incredible lineup available through official means via a manga app. I thought that it would be subscription based just like Shonen Jump or the recently released Viz app, but I was sorely mistaken. Instead, it’s this ticket and coin system that feels incredibly outdated and costly. This model may have worked in Japan, but it feels so expensive and unnecessary. I wanted to support the company that brings me new and old works like Shaman King or Blue period, but the entire experience has left a sad taste in my mouth. And to make things worse, there are pages that are censored, so we are paying for a lesser product overall? Just why?

Why would I pay MORE than a digital ebook to rent chapters?. Absolutely ridiculous pricing model. Why in the world are you gachafying reading manga? You get three rolls a day for points that give you a tiny fraction of the amount you need to read a chapter. Laughable. There is literally no reason anyone would want to pay more than the cost of buying a series digitally as e-books. Get an Azuki Manga, J-Novel, and/or Viz Manga subscription instead, and buy your favourite Kodansha series as physical volumes.

Money grab. I am so disappointed in this app. I get wanting to make some money but really? The app gives you the option to “bulk buy” an entire series, and it’s just barely cheaper than purchasing the physical copies. With how many illegal websites there are, why would anyone convert to this?? At least with the SJ app for a monthly fee of like $3, you get to read almost all of their titles with little drawbacks. There is also a time limit on the stuff that you do purchase. Maybe the shonen jump app spoiled me too much and this is the opening day for the app but no thank you.

Convoluted points and tickets pay system. This is deeply disappointing. The offerings are great, though I’ve read that they’re censored which is a confusing choice for something you’d have to pay for. Then there’s the way to pay… impenetrable points and tickets, comes out to like a dollar or more a chapter. I don’t have any interest in figuring out a system like this seemingly meant to be confusing. Flat rate subscription is about all I’m interested in. Could be tiered, or limited views per day, but I don’t want to think about anything more complicated. Big fail

Initially upset, but happy with updates.. K Manga is most valuable for addressing 2 specific needs: to read the first few chapters of series you might be curious about; and to buy new chapter shortly after the were published in Japan. I can’t in good conscience recommend this as a method to read entire series, as the cost would be higher than just buying physical editions… but for trying something new or spending a few dollars a month to keep up and support the latest releases, it’s perfect. Initially a lot of aspects of this app really disappointed me. Plenty of other reviews touch on all those reasons. But the most upsetting to me personally was that many chapters were split in half or more. I’ve noticed that this specific practice declined for some series, and I hope that trend continues. Additionally there have been dev updates that pleasantly surprised me: like adding comments. I really like to see reactions from other fans, so this is a nice feature. So while k manga wasn’t quite what I hoped for, I look forward to seeing how the app continues to develop… and frankly I’ll keep coming back as long as witch hat atelier is simulcasted.

Worst manga app. I never screenshotted anything, which I honestly barely have opened the app. But was suspended for screenshotting. Only gives me the opinion to close app or contact support which I did. Zero help only telling me I’m not banned just suspended. Zero times or dates given. Zero idea as to how long I’m “banned” even provided them proof I never did but it’s only general robot replies from any of there support. I’ve bought and supported the mangas but they have zero care for there users.

Good app design so far but pricing is absolutely ridiculous. I get that the main draw is getting access to chapters as they come out rather than waiting for a volume to drop, but when you price each chapter as a dollar it does not make ANY financial sense! If they actually want to make money from this app, they need to switch to a subscription based model rather than coin-based 😫

Clunky and Worse than the Competitors. Ignoring the actual quality of the comics, The business model is just strange. You get one free chapter per day, per comic, not including whatever chapters are free. Ok, cool. Except the most recent chapters are PAID only. And while this isn’t unheard of (I.e, webtoons fast pass system) this is limited to 3-5 chapters at most. Some of these comics are pay locked behind the last 20 chapters or more. Coming out to nearly a dollar per chapter, with very little ways to generate enough free points, unless you read absolutely INSANE amounts of manga it’s barely any cheaper than buying physical copies. Compare this to SJs 3$ a month for their entire vault? Not worth it. I’m not even saying that they shouldn’t charge more for their manga. I think the app could maybe be worth it as high as 10$ a month if it had SJs model. But paying nearly physical price for digital comics, without being able to read up to date comics for free? No thanks. I wouldn’t mind ads, paying a little bit, etc. But this is an egregious amount just for the right to simulpub. Plus apparently they’ll even split up some chapters in to two parts so you have to pay twice as much for longer chapters? Insane.

Really?!. I don’t see the appeal of buying points per chapter when I can just buy the physical volumes, Especially for the price you’re selling these points for and how much points add up to just a single chapter, let alone an entire volume worth of points. The point of a Comic/Manga App I would think would be the CONVENIENCE and to entice readers to buy Physical Volumes or Ebooks not bleed their pockets dry and have them watching more adds than reading the actual content on your app for free coins. No one would mind paying a Subscription fee of $10 for the app. But absolutely no one is paying to obtain coins or watching dumb adds for free coins

Great selection bad prices. I love the selection that is here but why on earth did it have to be with this dumb point system. Just let me pay a subscription cost please. I’d even pay like $10 a month(compared to shonen jumps $3) to access these but this point system is just freaking awful. Please change, maybe keep the point system for people who don’t want to do a full subscription but please oh please let us who are really into these just buy a subscription to access them all.

Viz and Shonen Plus are better. If this isn’t fixed, I’ll go back to pirating.. First off the manga are all censored. I understand there’s some issues there with how Apple usually tends to be regarding adult content. The solution there, is to do exactly what VIZ and SJ plus did where you go on the site VA your browser where you can view mature rated content. But if that were the only issue it would be manageable. It’s not. The biggest issue here is you have some sort of coin system, which might work for Korean porn sites, but isn’t going to work here. Not to mention the Korean pornwha sites have better deals. For under six dollars a month I can get VIZ and SJ plus and read thousands upon thousands of chapters. For six dollars with K-manga, I can read maybe like 4 or 5 new chapters. Not only is this service outrageously priced and annoyingly censored, but the typesetting on some of the chapters looks absolutely terrible. You can fix about 50% of your problems by just making this subscription-based service like it should’ve been from the get go. 25% can be fixed by just having a web browsing site or we can read things without having to view censorship. And the other 25% will understandably take time but you don’t see the same issues SJ/VIZ simulpubs quality. You can either fix these or the rest of us will just continue to pirate and not use your service. The choice is yours.

finally an app without a subscription service. I love the fact that this app doesn’t have a subscription service. when I first saw this app I was worried I would have to pay for another subscription but nope instead it’s roughly $1 per chapter. it’s so refreshing to not have to pay monthly for a service. the app could use a bit of work on the layout mainly allowing you to look at manga in a genre in alphabetical order and not just by popularity ranking but solid app and business model

Way disappointed. I had heard kodansha made a manga app and was excited since i had a ton of mangas i wanted to read and downloaded it to see how much a subscription was to then be disappointed to see that it’s not a subscription but point based and i would have to pay for every chapter i read which made me back out immediately bc im not wanting to spend a ridiculous amount of money to buy singular chapters and whatnot

Really good app! Just one thing.. It’s a really good app, however they use a microtransaction point system where a flat rate subscription would appeal to a lot more customers since it makes you spend an exorbitant amount to read just one full length series. I would be willing to pay up to $10 a month for a subscription like this due to the fact a lot of kodansha manga is hard to find in digital format and especially the newly released chapters. I hope they take this into consideration and change it.

It’s not worth it. As an avid manga reader, the ticket system where we need to PAY PER CHAPTER is bad. I’m not saying you should follow in a certain competitor’s footsteps, but their subscription model is objectively better. I understand that it’d be a pain to completely overhaul your entire service, but look at the immediate fan backlash. Not to mention the blatant and unnecessary censorship. 40 days worth of hyping up this service only for your competition to completely blow you out of the water with an announcement a day before you launch is embarrassing. Please, change for the better.

Great for hard to find manga needs more ways to earn points. As a recent user I’ve found this app to be the only one where I can read Ninja vs Gokudo in English anywhere so I decided to give it a try. I agree with other reviews that the point system is annoying but it’s not that bad only because they have the option with the advertiser HC which allows you to get 7-9 points just for reading 3 slides. Without that I either would have quit the app or just ended up reading the manga slower than I wanted to. I do like the option of daily tickets to unlock a chapter and the treasure chest that gives more free points and the option to get points for reading a chapter of whichever manga they offer. I personally don’t have money to spend on this app so if they ever get rid of the free to earn points option I will leave. For now though it’s not too bothersome and it’s the only way for me to read this manga. I do suggest adding more advertisers like HC who will give a good amount of points for easier actions.

Excited to only be disappointed. I never write reviews but I was super excited about this app coming out only to be disappointed about how confusing and complicated it was . I just want to read manga not watch a million videos to read one chapter . They got overly greedy and really ruined the app . In my opinion an monthly subscription would be the best way to do it . If you’re gonna keep it ad-based at least let me read the whole chapter after an ad. Hope it’s not to late for them to change the system. Manga readers are eager to have an app to read Kodansha titles in but this missed the mark.

Garbage. Initially I was very excited for a Kodansha app, but this has completely snuffed out any positive feelings I had. No research was done about the west, most people do not enjoy in app purchases and the gatcha system, especially when it adds up to such high numbers just to read a story. Far cheaper to buy the volumes, or even cheaper just reading for free online via piracy since this app makes no attempt at making it easier and convenient to read legally. On top of all that, they’re censoring panels even though the app is rated 17+….. giving consumers a subpar experience by all accounts. They’d have been better off putting more chapters onto Azuki. Take this down and start from scratch. The competitors clearly have it figured out to some degree, not saying those apps are perfect. But they are convinient.

Designed to be as off putting and complicated as possible. For an app that is a basic ebook reader and ebook shop, the method and service the app uses is so unpleasant it makes me simply not want to read the series published. The app lets you buy a volume of manga for essentially the same price as any other digital retailer except you use points instead of money and you have to buy each chapter individually. The points are simple enough as 99 points = 99 cents but the tickets are the real disaster. For one ticket each day you can read one chapter of a series. This is not only a nightmare for binge reading but so off putting that I’d rather either go somewhere else and read the volume of manga in its entirety or skip the series all together. The other problem with the tickets is that only a certain number of chapters are free to read with the tickets so if you weren’t planning on buying a later volume of a series you have either wait months or a year for those chapters to enter their “free period” or go somewhere else which would not only be faster but you could read it much sooner. The service is so needlessly strange I’d rather buy the same product from someone else instead of dealing with this nonsense.

Horrible business model. While this app does let you read Kodansha’s manga legally, they have a bad habit of splitting chapters in half and letting you read most of a series for free if you have the patience to read half a chapter a day, but the end is always paid for whether the series is still running or ended 5 years ago. It makes the app a very unappealing way of consuming the manga on it which is unfortunate because prefer to support straightforward legal methods of reading like this rather than hoping for a library to carry the books or reading at a bookstore.

App is completely screwed up. You need to pay money to read recent chapters for anything. Rather than getting “starter points” or something along the lines, you’ll be “given the opportunity” to buy discounted points for seven days. Users are given a “premium ticket” upon downloading the app which gives you access to one chapter out of literal thousands that would otherwise be unavailable. But not a new chapter, only something that’s in the backlog. There is a way to receive free points, but you need to watch 30 seconds of ads in order to get the chance at 50 points. You’re more likely to end up receiving 5 points for your time. Also, a single chapter is 99 points, so you could be grinding out half an hour’s worth of ads just to read a single chapter. If you want to take screenshots to share your favorite moments with your friends, the app will ban you if you screenshot a certain amount. The Viz media apps are much more worth your time and money.

Worthless app. The pricing model will only encourage more piracy. Not discourage it. It’s plain out stupid. I’d rather wait for physical volume to come out tthen end up paying more to read the chapters here. Censorship is also pretty ridiculous. Viz has done such an amazing job with Shonen jump and new Viz app and you’ve actually managed to ignore their amazing system and make the piracy issue worse. Just delete this app and maybe try again when you figure out what’s causing the issues in the industry and listen to the fan base.

App Outclassed By Competition. K-manga has a terrible system for anyone wanting to catch up with their favorite current titles. As opposed to Viz’s new app that allows free simulpub new chapters, and only costs $2/month for a subscription, Kodansha appears to be setting out to take every possible cent from their U.S. ONLY readers they possibly can. I don’t think the gatcha system will ever fly here in the states, and all this will do is make the issues of piracy worse. Shame on Kodansha for making such an outmoded app.

Horrible Monetization Scheme and Censorship. You are better off spending your money on resources to learn Japanese to read the raws than using this god awful excuse for a manga reader. Even waiting for the volumes to release in English and buying them somewhere else would be better than using this. Don’t know why these publishers feel the need to change the model that Shuesha already perfected.

Worse than every other option. This app is just bad. Horrible pricing, censored pages, chapters split into parts to get you to pay more, and hideous UI. You’re greeted with a zillion prompts and “click here for gems!” icons as soon as you load the app. There are 3 different currencies to keep track of. It’s just embarrassingly bad. If you want to get into manga just use the VIZ or Shonen Jump apps. If you want Kodansha manga, well… look elsewhere.

Please add a monthly subscription option. This app is not what we want and it’s a shame. Great catalog of titles locked behind awful paywall and ticket/point system. Please just add the option to let us buy a monthly subscription like you can for the Shonen Jump app. At the very least please make it so the newest chapters are free for releases. This app was hyped up and is very disappointing to see the state it has launched in. Sad.

Paying per chapter/No subscription service. When I first heard about this I was so excited because it would finally allow us to have a Witch Hat Atelier simulpub. But, after downloading it I found out you have to pay per chapter and there’s a point system? I thought this would just be a simple subscription service like Jump or Viz. Extremely disappointed right now.

Compared to everything it’s crap. This is the stupidest business model I’ve ever seen why bother buying every chapter when it’s gonna take almost a year because you can’t read without tickets and I’m not spending 80$ to read a single manga I would rather buy the physical copy

Manga with micro transactions. Instead of allowing users to sign up with a monthly service this app has opted to operate off of a points/tickets based system. New chapters of popular manga are 99pts or about $0.75 per chapter. Your choices with this app are pay for points/tickets or watch on average about 45 minutes worth of advertisements to read a new release. This app wants to nickle and dime the user weekly.

Might be the worst app ever made. Whoever designed this app has a lukewarm IQ. Genuinely atrocious. I just wanted to read Skip and Loafer after watching the anime, but no. Some convoluted and ridiculous point system is how its monetized? What a joke. Viz and Shonen Jump are infinitely better for like 3 dollars a month. If there is a manga that is only on this app… you know what to do. Anything but use this steaming pile of garbage.

Just charge a monthly subscription. The points and tickets system is pretty down and feels like this app is trying to nickel and dime you to death. Seriously, just charge a reasonable monthly fee and let us read a ton each day (2-5 bucks a month for 100 or so chapters a day).

No base subscription + censorship. This app could be good but it won’t until Kodansha scraps the point system of buying each chapter and switches to a monthly subscription. I don’t care if it’s $1.99 or $9.99 a month anything is better than this. I’ve never seen worse censorship in anything than on this app. There should not be any censoring whatsoever, put an adult 18+ lock on it or something. Any company that censors there manga will never be supported by me.

Too expensive and limited series. To read a (new) chapter can cost 99 points, which comes to about a dollar. The problem also is that older chapters cost points (and money) as well. Sure I’d like to support the authors but there’s no way I’m spending a dollar for every new chapter I’d like to read. There’s a good amount of main stream manga, including some older ones which is nice. Unfortunately for me though, they only have two series I’m interested in. The Layout of the app look outdated despite being new as well. Was looking forward to this app when I first heard about it but it’s a huge let down.

Wow. Such a disappointment after the Viz app was changed.. Not only are translations sub par but the censorship using large black boxes and the costs are unsightly. Having some chapters being broken up into multiple parts you have to buy is ridiculous. I was really looking forward to this with how many great series they have. Please K-Manga. Look at the Viz app and look for some inspiration there.

Just use free websites over this. The model for reading on here is to make you purchase tickets to read chapters. There is no subscription model like viz so to read full series it could cost you upwards of $100. I do not know what they were thinking when creating this app but it is absolutely terrible only an idiot would spend this much money instead of using one of many free websites.

Limited series rn but everything else PERFECT. Love what the offer right now and knowing I get live updates is NOICE! Kinda refreshing

Terrible model. The whole watch a video or do a survey for points to read a manga chapter is horrible and comes off as scammy. You can buy points but it equates to $1 per chapter with series having 300+ chapters. In 2023 I would think I would ever see a business model like this especially when you have a major competitor that’s offers more content for $2 a month.

Just use a subscription model. This is the dumbest system I’ve ever seen. The app is packed with ads and “offers” from advertising partners. If you purchase something on their site you can get coins to read manga. Just let me purchase a subscription or the chapters directly. This is dumb. You can pay $2.99 a month and read all of Shonen Jump’s catalog. So immensely disappointed.

Disappointing. Honestly I was really excited to see this come out & I just was not impressed. I think I’ll just stick to reading viz media manga on their app. Doing a monthly subscription vs purchasing points to read manga. Might as well just buy it instead it’ll cost about the same. Or just find it online. I was really hoping it was a monthly subscription. How disappointing.

Wasted potential. I heard that this app was being created. Was looking forward to it. But the execution and the way the app is designed. Just isn’t for me I would rather a month to month option. Hoping that you’ll redesign the app. It has so much potential to be a great app. Just needs some tweaks and changes. I would gladly change my review to five stars. At that point upon the app being changed.

Pay Per Chapter Model Far Too Expensive. Paying roughly 0.75 per chapter is highway robbery when you can read thousands of chapters for $2 a month on the VIZ media app (or read chapters free online.) Terrible business model. You’d have to watch around five or six minutes of ads to get enough “points” to read a single free chapter, too.

Terrible. Why no subscription service?. I was really look forward to this but you guys dropped the ball HARD with this locking chapters behind a terrible point based system when Viz lets you read 100 chapters a day for $2 a month. But your app is just a glorified gacha game at this point because of the point system. Hopefully you guys realize how unappealing this looks to people and will only promote people to continue pirating manga.

Fumbled a great thing. $1 per chapter or two is INSANE. Especially when other competitors like Viz/SJ only charge a few bucks per month. It’s a terrible system to pay for the manga and gives literally 0 incentive to use the app instead of god forbidden pirating or just buying physical copies. Paying a dollar per chapter also HEAVILY turns off others from bothering to start new series either.

Not a fan of point system. I was really hoping for a subscription based model for reading manga on this app, but now I have to go through a gimmicky ad system to get points in order to read chapters. I don’t think I’ll be using this app for very long…

Absolute Joke of an App. The fact that this is not simply a subscription based service like the manga+, Viz, and Shonen Jump apps is just pathetic. This is literally how you encourage piracy. I will never use this app, and will instead continue to pay for its competitors while finding other means to read the mangas featured on this app. Horrible model Kodansha has here; just inferior in every way.

Terrible way to pay. Why am I buying points and tokens like a gatcha game to read manga? I happily pay $3 a month for Shonen Jump and would probably pay more. I would certainly do the same for Kodansha given the choice. I believe that is more than reasonable for a digital product I don’t even own and have to keep paying for to read.

Worst manga app on the market. Gonna keep this short so it’s easy to read. KManga runs on a points system where you can either “do tasks” or buy points to then buy chapters. It’s a bad business model, especially compared to other apps with a flat monthly fee of only a few dollars. Will not be using KManga until they fix this.

Absolutely useless. I was so excited to download this app so I could read and reread some of my favorite series, but this app was a complete and utter let down. I was expecting a similar design like Shonen where there is a subscription but instead got an ridiculous point system?? Screw that

No subscription option. Instead of a normal monthly subscription this app uses a point system that makes no sense. Buying points cost almost as much as just buying the physical manga. This app could be be 5 stars if they offered a monthly subscription like every other app.

Waste of time. Maybe if I could pay a monthly subscription to be able to read the chapter of the manga I’m currently following the I’d up the rating, but having to buy points just to be able to read one chapter that’s not months out of date is ridiculous. Didn’t even bother actually trying to read a chapter because the only free options were chapters I’ve already read.

Great content, horrible app. The content is high quality and plentiful, but the app itself is trash. Sure, reading is OK, but the payment system is total garbage. Even if I wanted to buy points, it errors out whenever I try. And you can’t share points between the app and the website. Whaaat?!? How does that even make sense?

Why a POINT SYSTEM?!. Why would I want to grind and/or buy points just to read a couple chapters of manga that I’m not even certain I’ll enjoy? Not to mention you have to REPURCHASE CHAPTERS YOU’VE ALREADY READ! I love Kodansha to death, but against Jump, who lets us pay a couple bucks a month to read HUNDREDS of chapters, their app’s not gonna be able to compete for very long like this. Heck, it won’t even compete against piracy websites.

Unbelievably Terrible. Kodansha, we are BEGGING you guys to just use a subscription model like Shounen Jump. I want to support you guys and my favorite mangaka, but the points system is just brain melting awful. No one wants this. We will gladly pay for a subscription, it’s just up to you guys to listen to us and make the changes for the better

Confusing and expensive. Was really excited for this but after looking at it is a confusing mess. I don’t get the points/ticket system (why are there two separate currencies?) and the chapter rates are very expensive. Chapters being split into multiple parts also seems scummy. Overall not a great deal, will be sticking to other manga apps that run on subscription based services and buying digital volumes instead.

Too expensive. It’s significantly more expensive than viz which has a subscription system. The Japanese version of the app costs about $0.37 per chapter which is reasonable. This app costs almost $1 for a chapter and for mangas like Tomodachi Game chapter are divided into part 1 and part 2 making you have to pay for a chapter twice.

I’d give it a zero if I could. I pay a simple $2/month for Shonen Jump and enjoy reading all my chapters with no hassle but on here Kodansha decided a points system would be better? Absolutely ludicrous and a terrible business model. I’d suggest reading these mangas somewhere online at this point.

Absolute dumpster fire of an app. I’ve never seen a manga app with gacha mechanics until today. You have to with pay for tickets or watch ads to build points to read chapters. This app would’ve had so much potential if they just simply went with a subscription model instead of whatever is they’re trying to do here. Will not recommend until they take a page out of Shonen Jump & Viz’s book.

Horrible Monotization. This uses a confuseopoly monetization scheme. Chapters cost 69 points and you can buy multiple different denominations of points but it makes it hard to gage how many chapters you really are paying for with the confusing hard to divide numbers. It makes everything feel worthless and I do not want to spend money on intentionally confusing monetization.

Not as bad as everyone is saying. Sad to see this app get review bombed by people who don’t even understand how it works. You can read everything on here for free, much better than subscription systems that require payment.

Is hajime no ippo coming?. I am desperately looking for a place to read hajime no ippo legally, and finally found it here, but there’s only a couple chapters 😢. Are there more coming?

No Need For A Gacha Manga App. The app relies on users paying for points/coins/whatever to read new chapters or watching/playing ads to get free chapters. The cost of them are more expensive than buying the volume on another website, it’s ridiculous. The actual manga reader is more than fine, but with the loot box like mechanics, it’s a useless manga app.

Cash grab. There’s so many series on here I want to read but I might as well buy the physical book at these prices . This whole point system is ridiculous , charging per chapter and hiding behind tickets makes it very unclear if the actual cost of anything. The app itself dosen’t even look legit , it looks like something off a scammy website with all the ads

Money grab? Not buying anything till subscription model. Come on guys. Not only did Viz undercut you but then they only charge 1.99 for their service. You guys want me to basically pay the same price for a physical manga? That is outrageous, and clearly you guys didn’t research how this was gonna go. I love your selection but I’m not gonna pay for anything unless it’s subscription based, I’d rather buy the physical manga. I’ll stick to Viz for now.

Pricing Model Needs Work. Similar competitors are offering a monthly subscription for $1.99 that gives access to unlimited chapters. In addition, the competition also gives the most recent 3 chapters for free as opposed to the first few. The app itself is fine and responsive. It is intuitive to use. The largest thing holding this back is it’s frankly anti consumer pricing.

Disappointing through and through. The UI is complex and annoying to use, but that’s the best thing about the app. It works on a stupid gacha system with tickets that can’t even buy all of the chapters. It’s also particularly pricey if you want to binge read. If you’re using it to read latest chapters, it’s fine. Also censorship? Seriously?

What a waste…. Don’t even bother to download this app. Other than the first day you download it, you can only read ONE chapter PER DAY for free, otherwise you pay per chapter. No thank you because atp it’s more worth my time and money to buy the physical tankobon. I was ready for a monthly subscription which I would have gladly paid as I already do w/ SJ and Mangamo, but this??? Pass.

Terrible App. Terrible interface. Terrible way to get people to read chapters (via a point system). Buggy sign-in/sign-up feature. All around horrible app for westerners to read Manga. You’re better off using the Shonen Jump app, even if it’s more limited in selection, it’s a more thoughtfully designed app than this.

Can not compete with Shonen Jump app. I was looking forward to reading manga outside Shonen, and I was ready to pay the subscription cost. However, there is no subscription, you have to pay for points to buy chapters. YOU HAVE TO PAY PER CHAPTER! I think if they make a subscription service or will improve greatly but if they don’t, I won’t bother with it.

Honestly a hassle. Tbh this app just incentivizes people to pirate. The UI is clunky and the price per chapter is absurd… $1 for every chapter? And when it comes to a manga that goes on for such a long time (such as rent a girlfriend) it would become such a money sink especially for someone who doesn’t make hardly any money. Not to mention region locking this to the US makes it literally impossible for people outside the US to legally read any manga on this platform.

So scammy. Who was it? I just want to know who was the genius behind this? Who at Kondansha put this together and thought “yes”? I was so excited when I heard about this app! So many amazing titles that I read by this publisher. I really hope you listen to the reviews, and rethink the system, and get a subscription!

I can’t believe this. What could have been a great app akin to the shounen jump app, turns out to be a huge disappointment. Huge collection, but this point/ticket system makes gotcha games look cheap. If they change it to a subscription system, I’m back. Until then wasted potential

Need a change in how to pay. It’s appalling that you have competition with an easier subscription service model and you have this app with the pay by chapter or infuriating task for points system. Just give me a reasonable monthly subscription price and I will gladly give you my money. Please rethink your payment services

Unbelievable. This app will not get a single dollar from me when there are several different manga hosting apps that are much better. The payment system implemented in K manga is atrocious and until there is a monthly subscription model like Viz and SJ it is 100% not worth your money. I want to spend money to support my favorite series, don’t make it so convoluted and pricy for me to do so. This app will certainly fail in America.
