Worthwhile Recipe App. I just got the app today and immediately began importing my recipes. The scan option works pretty decent, love the import option from websites, and love being able to assign categories. The only complaint I have so far is I haven’t been able to import any of my pdf file recipes. The message I get when trying says “no recipe found”. But for the cost, it’s still worth having especially since when I travel to help care for my Mom I can take my favorite recipes along that I may cook without all the hassle. Wish I understood why the pdf import function doesn’t work with either my Google drive or Dropbox, which is where I have almost all my electronic recipes currently stored.

The Recipe App I always wanted. Mela is simple to use, fast and polished. Recipes look nice in the app, but I really like that I can easily share them with anybody by exporting as PDF. They look good (and are easy to read) in PDF form as well! I don’t generally use the fancy import features it provides, I just write my own recipes by hand and it’s great at it.

Best app for storing recipes. I need clear, easy to follow, recipes. This app has been a game changer for me. There’s so many ways to tweak the recipe and everything is simple. I’ve imported from online, scanned recipes I’ve been keeping on paper, and entered my own. Thank you for making this app and making my life easier for cooking.

A beautiful app with only one issue. After many years of trying all the top recipe managers, I think Mela is absolutely the best. It only has one issue holding it back from perfection, and I'm hopeful the developer will resolve this someday. When importing recipes (regardless of which website) more often than not the fields for Prep Time and Cooking Time do not populate and have to be filled manually. I've tried importing the same recipes using three other highly-rated recipe managers and these fields fill just fine, so it is not a problem with the websites. If you can overlook this, Mela has an absolutely gorgeous UI and a UX that addresses everything you could expect in managing, displaying and printing recipes.

A KISS App. This feels like a native apple app. It syncs with your cal for meal plans and your reminders list for groceries. It’s got a built in browser that can scan for recipes. It’s simple yet powerful. This isn’t the first app I tried using to manage my recipes either! But I feel like it may be the last. Plus I think it’s got a super romantic origin story - IYKYK.

Almost perfect. Overall a really well-designed app. Feels super simple compared to others like Paprika, which can feel overstuffed with features. All it needs is a better grocery list. Items are not categorized (i.e. Produce, Dairy, etc.), they’re just thrown into a chaotic master list, which means that when I go shopping, I’m constantly flicking up and down the list to find the things in whatever section of the store I’m in.

One Feature Request. This app is terrific and you should get it if you want an easy way to manage your recipes. I do wish that I could share multiple recipe collections with multiple people. Sharing my mom’s recipes with her and my partner’s recipes with them (without mixing recipes up) would be a huge improvement on the all or nothing approach the app takes now.

Essential recipe app. This app is nearly perfect. I love it’s recipe parsing browser— there are lots of great recipes on the Internet, but most of them are hidden behind ads, pop-ups and obnoxiously long stories. Mela strips all the junk away to give you the recipe—ingredients, servings, even nutrition info! BRILLIANT! The presentation is excellent and my only feature request would be to include the ingredient quantities during the recipe instructions so I don’t have to keep scrolling back to the ingredients list as I cook.

Game changer. I’ve tried out a bunch of recipe apps, and this one really crushes the competition. The ability to subscribe to the RSS feeds of cooking blogs and browse an automatically-refreshing feed of neatly formatted recipes without all the distracting bloat that usually fills recipe blogs is a feature I didn’t know I needed. Props to the developer! I’ll definitely be buying the desktop app as well!

Sync not working. First, let me say I love the app, the design is beautiful and so easy to use. We bought it in Dec across all our Apple devices - laptops and iPhones / iPads. At that time everything worked perfectly, syncing across all device types. But since the middle of Jan the sync is broken. I’ve been adding recipes on my laptop (macOS) and they don’t appear on the phone or iPad (iOS). I’ve emailed the Mela support team but no response. It’s truly unfortunate, because as everyone else has written about this app, it truly is one of the best out there. But if it doesn’t sync across devices it really is no use to me, since I use all my devices depending on where I am. At least a response to issues would also be helpful.

Quickly became my favorite recipe app. I was pretty happy with Paprika, and then started to use Crouton. Other than not being able to remember the name of the app as easily, this app blows the others out of the water. Design is impeccable, and when I realized it was the same dev behind Reeder it all started to make sense. It’s one of those apps I wasn’t looking for, but ended up being the best recipe app I’ve ever used.

Best recipe app I’ve used so far!. This has been the best recipe/grocery app I have used. The UI is beautifully simple and easy to navigate. The recipe import features work great, are super clean, easy to read, and well organized. I can pull just about any recipe from the web. The grocery features are great, too. Adding groceries from a recipe is super simple, and it even translates to my Reminders app grocery list. I definitely recommend giving this a try. It’s worth the couple bucks.

Wonderful, Aside from Browsing. Mela has been the best recipe manager I've used of a few. The interface is clean, without a bunch of multi-step fatigue when choosing recipes. The real shine for Mela is the cooking view. On Mac and iPad you have a persistent pane with your ingredients, and a clear view of directions. You can also add multiple timers on the same screen! Other recipe managers I've used aren't any better than viewing a site, so I appreciate Mela being innovative. If I could change anything about Mela, it would be to allow support for Safari extensions. I don't know whether this is possible, but cooking websites have an aggravating amount of ads and other intrusive data tracking practices. Mela doesn't collect any information, and it would be wonderful if the browser followed the same privacy rules. If I want to support a cooking site I buy their cookbook, online ads are a cancer.

In my personal top 10 apps ever. I use this all the time, and recommend it to my friends who like to cook. One (small) shortcoming is that sometimes I want to list my recipes WITHOUT certain ingredients. For example let's say a meat-eating friend with an egg & dairy allergy is coming over for dinner, then I'd like to search for recipes WITH "chicken", "beef", "lamb", ... and WITHOUT "milk", "cream", "cheese"(i.e. dairy). Suggestion: Allow filtering by both the PRESENCE _and_ the ABSENCE of ingredients. If that makes the UI too complicated, then filtering by EITHER absence OR presence would still be an improvement.

Needs way to save links to recipes it can’t scrape. A few recipes I have tried to import via the web simply will not automatically import the actual recipe (sometimes it gets the ingredient list but can’t see the directions. I know web scraping isn’t an exact science and manually retyping every single step on an iPhone is a pain, but maybe having an option to keep web bookmarks with the other recipes for now would be nice.

Best recipe app around!. This recipe manager is by far the best I’ve used. It’s a super clean design and makes it easy to read recipes while cooking. It’s worth the money for the iOS apps and syncs well if you decide to pay for the Mac app (I think both are worth having). The feeds feature is really fun to use to discover new recipes with little effort or just to gain some inspiration. iCloud sync and grocery list integrations both work perfectly for sharing with others! I’d love to see a few additional features in the next updates. Linking recipes inside of recipes, another section to list what cooking equipment is needed, and more styling support for sub-headings in recipes (especially for baking where there’s usually multiple sub-recipes and dry/wet ingredients need to be prepared separately).

Finally the recipe manager I was looking for. I finally found the app I was looking for. Mela allowed me to combine recipes that used to be spread across four different apps. I can now access all those recipes in one place with a consistent, clean and modern interface. I used to store recipes in Trello, Instapaper, and the NYT cooking and How to Cook Everything apps. Mela made it incredibly easy to import all those recipes, and I was completely done in only a couple hours. Importing web-based recipes via the built in browser was seamless (including NYT cooking). And even for my non-web based How to Cook Everything recipes, I was impressed by the efficient parsing that easily recognized pasted lists of ingredients and steps, and automatically formatted those sections. The RSS-based feed is just icing on the cake, and I look forward to discovering new recipes from a variety of sources within the app. I expected a lot from the developer of Reeder (which I have used every day for countless years) and I was not disappointed. Highly recommended to anyone looking to consolidate and access their recipes in a single and modern app.

Love but. Just a way to get rid of the yellow color or at least customize it and change to another color. Also an option to hide some of the descriptors in the recipe list view, but still have the ability to filter, sort or search by categories for example , Finally ability to organize groceries by type or aisle (example, produce, meat, juice) Then I think it will be absolutely perfect!

The best recipe collector OUT THERE. This app is seamless for folks who use recipes online. It is SO easy to take any recipe and integrate it into a wonderful, simple screen for cooking! Say goodbye to scrolling through endless text and reading context about food and accidentally clicking on an ad while your fingers are covered in flour. This app is beautiful, allows you to go into “cooking mode,” which is essentially a distraction free, concentrated view of the app, and even allows you to change PORTION sizes SUPER easily. All for free! I immediately bought the pro version because it is that good and I wanted to show my support. But my hands down favorite thing, and the unique piece that makes this app stand out is the “feed” feature. This allows you to copy a URL from your favorite food blogger’s website (mine is fitfoodieselma, #shamelessplug), and it imports all the recipes it can find into the app for you. It’s wonderful 5/5, and I’ve been looking for a good cooking app to suit my needs for YEAAAARS. Props to the creators!

Negatives: search funktion and sync not working between devices. Sync between two devices simply doesn’t work. I have 15 more recipes on my phone than on my iPad. Logged out of everything when I switched devices recently, and it seemed to work for a while, but now I’m back to having discrepancies. We have made several tickets but not much help from the developer. Fed up with a bad app that you have to sit scrolling up to reach the start of the list. No search function worth the name. Will probably end up going back to Paprika.

The Perfect Recipe App. Mela is an absolute game-changer in the recipe app space. It combines beautiful design with user-friendly navigation, setting a new standard in the world of digital culinary resources. I’ve tried numerous other apps, but Mela triumphs with its seamless blend of aesthetic appeal and practical functionality. Its clean and intuitive interface makes browsing a joy, while the comprehensive features ensure that it more than just looks the part. Every recipe is well organized, and the app works flawlessly, making the cooking process more accessible and enjoyable. After a long search, Mela has proven to be the perfect companion in my kitchen. It’s rare to find an app that combines such beauty, functionality, and user-centric design with perfection. Mela is a gastronomic revelation that any cooking enthusiast should not miss. Five stars all the way!

Fantastic recipe management app!. Please please please bring that machine learning magic to the recipe scanner functionality! OCR is nice but it’s a ton of work fixing scans of books, especially if they have unusual type layouts I’d also love it if the calendar and shopping list worked better together, or the shopping list would group ingredients by category.

The best recipe app on iOS and macOS. Hands-down the best recipe app on iOS and macOS. It removes the life story that accompanies nearly every recipe now, and is a beautiful and well made app. It has great features like export and sharing, and everything is backed up and synced on iCloud. If it’s the best, why 4-stars you might be asking? And well, it’s because there are a few rough edges. As my collection of recipes has grown, the categories function has become too simple to use effectively in my opinion. It needs a “tags” feature added too. If that is added, it will be an instant 5-starts. Another nice to have would be a function to sort by recipes based on ingredients, but I can understand that is a hard function to build.

Great app but needs its own storage, not iCloud. I love the design of the app but really disappointed since I paid for the Mac and OS apps to find they have don’t have their own storage and use iCloud instead. The problem with that is that for people like me where my laptop is my work computer, my iCloud is turned off so the recipe sharing doesn’t work at all. Which is a massive problem. I have this problem with NO other paid apps I use since they know sync is a key feature and didn’t cheap out and use iCloud.

Amazing. I can’t believe how good this app is. The recipe clipping feature works incredibly well, the export options (including pleasingly-rendered PDFs!!!) are super convenient, and the integration with Reminders for grocery items is perfect. Every time I open the app I’m reminded how great it is and I often discover a new helpful feature that I had missed previously. So so good.

Where have you been all my life?. I'm amazed it took me so long to find this app. I've been looking for way to consolidate disparate bookmarked recipes, scribbled notes from my mom, and years of printed, stained, and torn recipes in dirty scrapbooks and Mela does it superbly and effortlessly. It's ability to distill recipes into their basic parts and display them elegantly and efficiently is superb. The addition of the RSS reader is the cherry on top. All of my favorite recipe sites show up in the same well organized place and adding a recipe to my collection is a simple press of a button.

Love it mostly, but…. When I scan a recipe from a magazine or a cookbook to put into the app, there’s no way to view it full screen or zoom in to read it better when I access it. So it’s basically useless to me for that since it’s not big enough to read. Am I missing something?? It would be very tedious to take all of those kinds of recipes and input them manually. But I do love the format and layout for saving recipes that are taken from the Internet and added to the app.

Fantastic app! Two suggestions. I adore this app and had previously used Paprika. This is much better for my calendar integration, allowing me to share meal plans with my family. I do have two suggestions: 1. Improve the grocery list. Try to group similar items whenever possible, which Paprika was able to do much better. Or, consider having an internal grocery list similar to Paprika. This is one area that I believe paprika did much better than this app. It can be kind of a nuisance. I think this is a critical improvement! 2. Long term, consider Apple HealthKit integration. If you plan to eat a meal on your calendar, the calories can be added to dietary intake after the meal is complete. We already have nutrition facts, so this should be straightforward to add. This is less critical than the above suggestion though.

Sharing outside of Apple is non existent. Love the app overall - website parsing is ridiculously fast and accurate, UI is great, and generally fun to use. Two questions - Is there a way to see in the grocery list (in the app) which recipe the ingredient came from? This is a big feature I miss from other meal planning apps and an important one too. - Currently I see 0 ways to share a grocery list to a non iOS/MacOS friend without using iCloud. Any plans to just at least allow exporting a simple list into text or something like that? Big bummer in terms of using with family if we’re not all in iOS. This might be the biggest reason for me to stop using this app (even bought the MacOs version)

Almost perfect. After quite a lot of research, I landed on Mela about a year ago. Now, I consider it indispensable for reasons you see in others’ reviews: ease of use, layout, the powerful ability to scoop just the needed bits from wordy, ad-filled recipe web pages. It’s truly remarkable that way. One thing that mars the overall experience, however, is that it’s clunky to navigate. For example, it takes a lot of extra touches/clicks to go from recipes in one category to those in another. A simple pop-up list would help simplify navigation. Similarly, I don’t know how many times I’ve searched for a known recipe in my collection and found nothing, only to realize that my search was confined to the category I didn’t realize I was in; make searches global, and one of the few frustration points would be immediately gone. Small but meaningful improvements like these could make an very good experience truly marvelous.

Fantastic!. All you need to know is that this app removes all the personal backstory blather from recipe sites (“Want to make a corn muffin? First, here’s 4,000 words about my experience on 9/11…”) and leaves you with a clean copy of what you were looking for in the first place. From there, you have all manner of customization and sync options if you want, but the basic task of scraping and delivering a usable recipe from your basic, awful, SEO-tilted-template recipe site is incredibly accurate, quick, and consistent. I do not miss the newsletter interstitial popups. I celebrate their absence. It’s been a long time since an app was so good I actually looked forward to rooting through all my old notes and bookmarks to populate it. Mela is that app, and it’s actually been fun to see all the insanely different stuff I saved over the years come together in a single, sensible presentation. Nice touches abound (keep-awake on iPad is great). There is of course room for refinement (“select all” and “select none” buttons when adding groceries would be nice), and the app doesn’t save your place when you switch to another app, but these are nice-to-haves. The dev is great, so I expect these kinds of rough edges will get dealt with. On that note, if you’re into RSS news feeds, check out Reeder by the same dev, also best in category, imo.

Excellent app, but some feature requests. Excellent app and definitely the most aesthetically pleasing recipe manager that I have come across so far. Also has the most reasonable trial period of any other recipe app. A bit of constructive feedback: (1) Perhaps offer a tutorial for the feed feature or suggested feeds? I’ve tried a few URLs and none of them seem to work. (2) Some easy way to refer back to the ingredients and their measurements. Either by screen splitting between ingredient list and instructions when the phone or tablet is rotated or by having a link function where you can press each ingredient in the instructions and see its respective measurements.

Amazing App. This is the best app I have ever used hands down. It understands what the common pain points are of people trying to compile recipes in a modern fashion from all their different sources (web, cookbooks, posts) and is extremely adept at handling and importing recipes from different sources. The app is a breeze to use. Well worth the trivial amount of money. You will almost never have to type anything in this app which saves you a ton of time.

Great way to build your grocery list. This makes it easy to share recipes in a common place for my household and quickly build grocery lists. One enhancement I would like to see is a way to easily deduplicate and sum the total count of the same ingredient added from different recipes.

Been waiting for this one. I have tried a half dozen other apps. I shelled out decent cash for them, too. When I found Mela, I dropped them all and consolidated on this one. Finally: iCloud sync—other apps don’t need my recipes and grocery lists on their servers, simple tagging—no need for layers organization systems, clean design—no clunky interface. It’s a keeper. Thanks.

Amazing App. Mela’s ability to extract a recipe from an article is pretty magical. The design is beautiful and the feels very snappy. I’m really happy with this purchase. The only feature request I have is more robust support for images. Two ideas: Support for extracted multiple images from a site and the ability for images to be displayed in line with steps. I have a bunch of recipes that have step-by-step imagery.

Phenomenal. There are only a couple of truly good iOS recipe managers. And then there's Mela, which is phenomenal and, above all, remarkably intuitive. Out of all the iOS recipe apps I have used Mela is the easiest to navigate, organize and cook with. iCloud sync with multiple device just works with out hassle. Ingredients can be sent right to a Reminders grocery list. Recipes can be easily added to the calendar. (Oh yeah, that's what I shopped for to cook on Saturday!) Lastly. Check your current recipe manager. How much data is collected by it? That can be eye-opening. Mela collects no data to be analyzed / resold. NONE. Can't recommend Mela enough. A solid, no fuss, recipe app.

Versatile. It’s a phenomenal app for saving all kinds of recipes. First I wasn’t sure if it was fit for cocktail recipes, but it turned out to be perfect for this task. I only wish that app could recognize ‘barspoon’ as a measure category in order to highlight it. I have to use ‘teaspoon’ for now. Otherwise I’m very happy with the app and its tagging capabilities which are indispensable for searching through cocktail recipes.

Clean and effective with good formatting and nice features. No ads, no in app purchases, exactly what I want from a tool like this. Recipes are easy to import from my phone and computer. Editing or creating my own is also simple and well done with intuitive organization of recipe sections and a good recipe skeleton without too much boilerplate. I also love that I can share html files so iMessage recipe sharing can share a link that has the organization of the app without requiring them to have the app as well. Super nice that I can share my recipes outside of the platform like that. One feature I would love to see is a dedicated way to rate a recipe that I’ve cooked. The notes section and title work well enough but it gets a bit messy and I’d love to be able to filter or sort by my ratings. There is an option to favorite recipes which I guess is the current decision for this but I think a star system or something would better solve this for me.

Beautiful and functional. This is exactly the recipe app I've been looking for. My only ask relates to the Mac version—it really begs for a Safari extension. Otherwise, both apps are well worth the investment. Addendum: Categories UI needs a bit of work. Too many taps to assign multiple categories. The Good Links app nails this.

Great App with a Surprising Shortcoming. I really like this app. I purchased both the macOS and iOS versions and have already entered about 900 recipes. I was looking forward to using my phone in the kitchen to follow the recipes as I cooked but found that the iOS version had no way to search for specific recipes. You have to scroll through manually. It’s not a huge hassle, but it is surprising test there is no search function.

Lost most of my recipes. Have been using the Mac version and adding in lots of recipes, which works great, but is time consuming. I decided to buy the iPad version to use in the kitchen and set up sync over iCloud and now only have 38 recipes left, the rest are just gone. This was hours of work which has just disappeared. I emailed customer support, but like others have said, no reply, just dead space. I really liked the look of this Mela app, but if it looses all my work, no way, I want my money back, just rubbish. Shame the developer cannot even take the time to answer an email to try and fix the issue. Do NOT recommend. Guess I’m going back to Paprika, ugly, but at least it works.

App of the year. I’ve never been inclined to write reviews for anything, especially not an app, but I love Mela so much that I had to. TikTok put me onto this app and I use it daily. I’ve transferred all my favorite recipes into it so they are always at my fingertips and I’m not having to comb through websites or Pinterest or screenshots while at the grocery store or trying to cook. I’ve told all my friends about this app and wish I had had this sooner!

What I’ve been looking for!. I never write reviews, but felt compelled because this is such a good app! I often find apps to be really disappointing. So much potential, and then missing important functionality. Not this one! I’m delighted with how simple and pretty it is, how I can collaborate in the app with my husband, add my own recipes, recipes from books, as well as importing seamlessly from browsers. There’s a great tagging system you can create to categorize recipes, plus a grocery list that syncs with the Reminders app. Overall, I’m so happy to finally collect all my recipes for easier meal planning!

Chef approved. When I graduated from culinary school many years ago, I had a pile of textbooks and a bigger pile of cookbooks — and a small spiral-bound set of 4x6 notecards with my own and my favorite recipes on them. It’s been two decades, and those stained, torn, and heavily annotated notecards are my best resource in the kitchen still. In the intervening years, I’ve collected a giant stack of recipes from various sources (cookbooks, websites, and handwritten recipes from friends’ grandmothers) which has become an almost unusable mess. I have a cupboard full of binders and shelves full of cookbooks. But when I need a recipe, what do I do? I google it. It’s just so easy. Even when I’ve saved a PDF somewhere, it’s just easier to search for it again. Enter Mela. Now I have a searchable source for MY OWN stuff. My tried-and-true recipes, and the stuff that I want to try. The stuff that I’ve tried a few times, and will probably make again. And all in a design that’s BETTER than what I get on the websites themselves. It’s basically perfect. Toss in the calendar/meal planning, and the grocery list that pairs with the Reminders app, and the built-in scaling… If I were building my own dream app for recipes, this would be it. And then on top of all that, it’s a perfect app-citizen. One-time fee, and NO personal data gathered. I’m pretty sure that the developer has guaranteed his place in heaven.

Omg. I have never, ever been this excited about an app before. As an avid cook and baker, having the ability to have all of my recipes in one place, not having to navigate websites full of chatter, videos and ads in order to get to what I really need - well, it’s perfect. The ability to scale the recipe up or down makes it even better. Super excited about this one. Thank you!

Such an Excellent App. If I could give this 100 stars I would. My friends are tired of me telling them how excellent this app is. The layout, the ease of use, the way you can import from websites or do an OCR scan of a photo, the “cook” mode with highlighted recipe on one side and ingredients on the other, the ability to share with family and friends… it’s all fantastic. I imported almost 100 recipes from my recipe binders the first weekend I had it, just scanning while I was watching tv. Something I’ve been meaning to do for years but I assumed it would take too much time. And now I have a recipe book for my kids! The only feature request I can think of is to allow landscape mode on the iPhone the same way it looks on iPad: with the recipe on the left and ingredients on the right (phone only shows recipe right now). But that’s a minor complaint because we always use our iPads for cooking anyway.

BEST recipe organizer, no comparison. Mela is. . . 1. Beautiful all around 2. Truly well-thought throughout 3. Functional without glitches Mela has. . . 1. Most useful “Most recent” feature 2. “Browser” which finds and downloads recipes fast 3. Awesome “Calendar” and “calendar notes” 4. Most useful “Want to cook” feature 5. Import recipes smoothly 6. Scan recipes from books 7. Three different fonts 8. “Feeds” download recipes from various websites I like! I have used many recipes apps including Paprika. Nothing is like Mela. This is the best, top-notch, most useful, perfectly functional recipe app - hands down. Thank you, developer!

Pretty good. Pretty good recipe planner. I love the integrated “feed” feature for my favorite blogs. I’d love if you could import multiple images to scan recipes instead of just one. It would also be nice to select multiple & edit at once. For Example if you input 5 recipes from a cookbook, to select all and add the source vs having to do that separately.

Nope. I wanted to like this app, it being so highly rated. My favorite cookbook app is no longer supported and is not in the app store, so I was looking for a new one. This just isn’t it. Far too much real estate is taken up by the title of the recipe and the list of recipes column, with the ingredients list almost falling off the page on the left. The only way I could successfully transfer a recipe without retyping it by hand was to email it to myself and save the pdf to Files, then import it into this app. Not practical for the over 1,000 recipes I have collected. Looking for something a bit more customizable, too. The font choices do not seem to work on the free version, and there are only three, so I don’t know why they bothered.

Just what I was looking for…. I’ve been a longtime fan of the app Reeder by the same developer and when I found out he had released this recipe storing app I was quite excited. There’s a lot of recipe apps out there but none come close to the beautiful design aesthetics of ‘Mela’. You can add a receipe manually from scratch by completing simple fields of data, add a photo too or you can import a receipe from a website by using the Mela share extension. It also has a built in Grocery list! Fantastic app!

Warning don’t download. Created malware on my iPhone

The perfect recipe app. I love this app. The only thing I feel it’s missing is the ability to rate recipes and add notes like “Tasty, but only needs 1/2 cup sugar.”

Can we please have a zoom function!. Love this app but am frustrated that you can’t zoom in on the photos you’ve attached to a recipe. Why??

Legendary!. By far the best recipe app. Silvio nails all the details—every part of the app is near-perfect and a pleasure to use.

Perfect. Mela does a really great job at importing and organising recipes, plus makes a shopping list easy. I would love to see a simple meal planner added, to help organise the week.

wow!. This has everything I wanted from a recipe app (and more!!) :D

No sharing :(. The members of my family are foodies, which is why all our recipe emails, texts and scribbled bits of paper over the years have made their way into Paprika. We each paid for a copy of the app, but five of us use the same account, across different states in Australia and even in Europe. Now, I acknowledge that we’re a little unusual in using recipes as a sort of family social media, but I imagine that a great many couples would like to refer to the same ‘recipe book’ via their own device. Not possible in Mela. The iCloud file sharing function will not support syncing recipes across different Apple IDs. Developers: please investigate creating your own cloud sync (*resisting* the temptation to charge a subscription). Your user interface and functions are quite a bit better than Paprika, but not syncing across different Apple IDs is a showstopper.

Perfect recipe management app!. I don’t often leave reviews but this app is AMAZING!! I used Paprika for years but always felt the interface was somewhat dated and I thought the MacOS cost was a little too high. The cost of Mela is really reasonable and the functionality is amazing.

Eliminates the pain of using online recipes. I love how mela lets me find, read and save recipes without having to scroll through the some random food blogger’s entire life story interspersed with hundreds of buggy ads. Just wish it would automatically convert units when it extracts recipes !

Great App!. Great App! I would like to see recommended sites and feeds for recipes. I would also like to be able to link to videos externally. Thanks!

Amazing. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Beautiful design. Smooth functionality. I’ve been really impressed with how well it imports from sites.

So good, even my 76yo dad likes it. Beautiful app with almost every feature I was looking for, for less money than every good competitor that I found. And it’s so easy even my dad can use it comfortably and enjoys it! The only thing I wish it had was a way to assign meals to a person, as we rotate who cooks in my household. But I know that’s a pretty niche feature, which is why literally no app I’ve found has it! We just use the notes field for now in the meal plan.

Awesome app. Works incredibly well with the sites I’ve tried and most importantly, it removes a LOT of resistance to making recipes for me. Having everything in one in place in a straightforward format with all of excess junk removed is soooo helpful. Thanks for making this app!

The best money I’ve ever spent on an app. Mela is such a joy to use. It does exactly what you want in a recipe manager in a beautiful interface.

Beautifully simple. Beautiful recipe app which syncs using iCloud and offers the ability to share your library with others. Brilliant.

Beautiful + seamless. Wow, what fun to use! Also, the fact I can share and import recipes right from the web is absolutely incredible.

Simply the Best. This app does it all. Love the family sharing and ease of importing and exporting recipes. We make our own categories and just add the missing ingredients into reminders- this is brilliant!

One stop shop. Let’s start with: How many difference places do you go to find a recipe you liked or saw and saved before? Like let’s look at the browsers favorite, or maybe it was saved in a different browser? Or maybe it was in an app? Oh no right it was in this book my aunt gave me. Well! This app is fantastic because you can easily import the recipe from websites and tou can turn your recipe book pages into a digital recipe really easily. From the website it will recognize a recipe and take off all that blogger life story to just keep the stuff tou actually went on the page to get and make it so easy to add to your repertoire of saved recipe that you may or may not ever make. But at least you’ll know where to find it. And adding a recipe from a book is done within a minute. Just scan the page with your device, select the text and mark it as instruction, ingredients, notes or whatever and it will automatically add it in the right section in the app. Just maybe have a quick look to make sure it didn’t crop an important information but honestly love it. Been going through all the different places I had saved recipe and been adding them all there. Have a friends recipe book with couple recipe I think I’d like, took a minute and it was saved in my app if I ever decide I want to try it. Great app to reconcile everything and stop waiting time looking in different places for recipe I’ve seen and saved before. Happy cooking!

Really well done app. I have been using this app for a few weeks, and love the functionality. Importing apps from blogs and websites is pretty much flawless. I thought that was great, then I tried the scan recipe from a cookbook function and was blown away. It was almost perfect - a couple of minor things I had to edit - and the only thing that really confused it was my hand-written note. Very well done! I look forward to future upgrades.

Amazing app!. If you are looking for a recipe organizer or want to get more into cooking, this app is perfect. It reminds me of the classic great apps back when the App Store was new and exciting. One purchase and you get a great product! Buy!

Doesn’t work.. Sounds great, but didn’t detect a single recipe on multiple popular sites. There are better options out there.

Awesome. Superbly designed app. Best I’ve found so far for managing recipes. Also, very much appreciate it not being a subscription.

Need easier search. Love the app - easy to import recipes. Great formatting and the Cook view is awesome. BUT the only way I’ve found to search is to scroll to the top of the ALL list which can take a lot of strokes on my iPad with nearly 1000 recipes. Please improve this!

Gorgeous app!!. This is such a well-made app that makes saving and tagging recipes from different websites a dream! And the interface is beautiful to boot. If the developer ever adds a homescreen widget, I would be as happy as a clam (which I’ll be cooking for dinner tonight thanks to this app)

Melaaaaaaaaaa. Where to begin? Silvio, you’ve completely killed it, like usual. Thank you Thank you!! this is the recipe app i didn’t know i even needed!! The importer works like a dream. just buy it and find out for yourself!!!

The most awesome recipe app. I’ve tried a few recipe apps and they never stick. Mela has become indispensable. So easy to grab NYT food section recipes and anything interesting you find on the interwebs. Scanning works like a charm too. Don’t know what I’d do without Mela!

Scaling Ingredients Calculations “Bug”. Great app! Using the Scaling Recipe feature, I found to be good except when I had used a decimal point and number for an ingredient. For example, I had “.75 grams yeast” in a recipe. When I scaled this 3x, this measurement transformed to “.225 grams”. I fixed this by adding a zero before the decimal point. It correctly calculated after this. I feel like this may be a common issue in my recipe library. I don’t typically add a zero to a decimal number but I acknowledge it would be more “correct” to do so.

Missing Key Things. The app has great look but it’s missing key things like sorting the recipes by categories (appetizer, breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, etc..). Also, when importing ingredients to shopping list, it doesn’t categorize it either (produce, meats, dairy, etc..). It simply copies the ingredient list from every recipe. Not helpful at all.

This app has changed our kitchen. I cannot recommend this app enough. Shared library, easy import, fantastic design, scanning cookbooks. It has everything. Forget 5/5. It’s a 10/10!

Love and suggestion. Love the app but can you streamline the grocery list a bit more? Maybe organize by type of food and if there r multiple or the same food combine them into one line

Favorite App. This app has totally changed how I meal prep every week. Recipes are easy to save and organize. Design is simple and intuitive. I’ve recommended it to so many friends. Love love love!

Amazing app. This is an amazing app. Aside from being able to find and collect recipes in seconds it also makes grocery lists for you. Wow. Wow

So so good.

Love it. This app is perfect! It’s such a great way to easily document your recipes and add new ones from websites. It helps make sure they are all under the same format. For 5 bucks (one time pay) you can’t beat that!

Fantastic. It’s so easy and a smart way to find, store, and manage recipes, groceries, and meal planning. It’s just a great app. Simple but powerful. Brilliantly laid out. Can’t say enough good about it. After about 1 hour of playing around with it, I happily paid the $5 and starting using it to plan my families dinners.

Great way to build your grocery list. This makes it easy to share recipes in a common place for my household and quickly build grocery lists. One enhancement I would like to see is a way to easily deduplicate and sum the total count of the same ingredient added from different recipes.

A work of beauty. This is a beautifully designed app, not just in the look but also the little details like how the app displays recipes on iPad. Life changing! It takes you from planning to the fork! Amazing! Get it and buy premium ASAP!

Fantastic! Chef’s Kiss!. I own this app for the Mac and iPhone/iPad… great for meal planning and works with every recipe website I’ve tried. MOST IMPORTANT: it adds ingredient quantities from multiple recipes so you don’t have to manually figure out how much of something you need to buy!

Clean, Clear, and Versatile. This is a brilliant databasing system for our recipes!! It has completely changed how my partner and I meal prep and grocery shop for the better. Plus with family sharing, all of my Mom’s recipes are here for safe keeping and sharing. Awesome stuff!

Great app! All my recipes in one place.. I have used 3 other recipe apps previously and this one is the best. Great features, but still simple to use. I love that it is not a subscription. Thank you for making such a nice app.

Best recipe out there, hands down. One of the best apps out there, period. So thankful that this makes use of a lot of standard Apple UI components, so it’s beautiful, and so easy and enjoyable to use. Syncs great with other Apple devices. Allows for easy export and backup.

Omg this is the PERFECT recipe app.. It’s all I ever dreamed of plus more is didn’t even know I wanted. Just get it. SO EASY to import your existing recipes or ones you find online or even those you just took a photo of from the magazine in the waiting room.

Amazing!!!. This is the kind of app I’ve been looking for. Being able to import recipes from cooking websites is such a great feature. It allows you to print out recipes without the ads and cruft. Can’t recommend more highly!

Where have you been…. This is the recipe app I’ve been looking for! Including a best-in-class website recipe importer and awesome cook mode features. Too many to list, just try it.

Feature request: nutrition data calculation. Great app, but there’s not always nutrition data associated w recipes. Would be HUGE if recipes could auto-calculate rough nutrition facts from free public online databases

Best recipe app I have used. I have used them all. While I still resort to Apple Notes for storing recipes, Mela is the best app at grabbing, collecting and using web sourced recipes I have ever used. Great options to save recipes from websites and even follow recipe blogs. Well worth the fee.

Good vibes when using this app. You can definitely tell the dev put a lot of love into this app’s design. “Crouton” is a very similar app and comes in a close 2nd to Mela, but despite how good Crouton is, Mela is just THAT much better. And after all, how many recipe apps do you need or can even use…

Great App. I moved from paprika and really love the clean UI and great UX. I’m looking forward to the family sharing sync as that is a big deal in my house. Other than that I only wish there was a calendar planning feature like paprika

Too good to be true. I really enjoyed this app. I used both the desktop and mobile version. I loved it so much I was going to make an old iPad a recipe only device. But I couldn’t, because you need to run at least iOS 15.0 for this to work. Why isnt there a compatible version for older devices?

Good app, customer service seems nonexistent. I think the app is good. There are some features I might like to see with it, but not a deal breaker. Would probably give it 4 or 5 stars if they ever replied to emails. I sent one requesting features and another asking questions they have not replied. One in February and one about 4 days ago.

This app is amazing. I use Mela all the time to adjust recipes and get rid of all of the extra story associated with a recipe. It’s been a time saver and I can share with my family so we all know what recipe to follow.

Beautiful app - needs a few enhancements. This is a gorgeous app!! Scanning recipes from a cookbook into the app is a bit clunky depending on how the recipe text layout. Additionally, it would be helpful if the groceries list could be organized by type (produce, bakery, frozen, etc) for shopping ease and noted with which recipe the ingredient is for. Looking forward to updates versions bc it is such a beautiful app!

Gorgeous and Brilliant. I have tried many recipe apps over many years, so I can speak with some credibility when I say you should buy this app for it’s elegance, beauty, and extremely clever features. Kudos to the developer for creating such a standout app in a crowded app category.

Perfect. One of the few perfect apps. It makes cooking and managing recipes so much easier and just even more fun. It’s a beautiful app and one of the most useful applications on my phone.

Awesomeness!!!. I’ve been looking for an app like this for a long time. I could not ask for an easy, user friendly way to store my favorite recipes. Being able to import recipes from the web was the icing on the cake, literally!!!!

Almost. Everything is great except the primary website import. Half the time it doesn’t detect a recipe. All other apps I’ve tried worked fine. Back to crouton.

Excellence. Mela does exactly what you want a recipe book to do. Well worth the money to be able to import and share recipes with my loved ones with ease.

Too restricted. Can’t share from notes app to Mela where I’ve saved many recipes. Requires separate purchase of desktop app. No web interface to view saved recipes on other platforms.

At First, I loved it, and then….. I loved this app, I looked through so many and tried several of the free versions. This one was great. Then I purchased it and it no longer could find ANY recipes on websites. I mean none. I tried it side by side with other recipe keeper apps and those could find the recipes but not this one.

Aesthetic & Clean App. Amazing cooking app and love the simple interface. Only thing I would love have added to this app is the ability to auto-convert units or scale up something in the recipe like serving sizes. Minus this one feature love the uncluttered feel of the app

Works magically but lacking a minor but important feature. The import is magic and swift but Mela can’t import or add pictures under each step.

Incredible app. So helpful for recipes discovered online and coordinating and sharing recipes with the family. I also love how easy this makes it to record notes and customize recipes.

Fantastic. I’m new to cooking and this is a fantastic app to collect recipes. It has become my go to recipe app on my iPhone. It’s so easy to import recipes from anywhere. The printed format is excellent and the cooking guide mode with the bolt timers is great if you want to go paperless. One of the best designed apps I’ve ever used.

Beautiful app for storing recipes. This app makes a beautiful and very practical. Designed with iOS first an Feature requests: more nutritional information styling similar to ingredients. The ability to schedule to make a meal with x amount of servings and be able to assign each serving (or multiple servings) to specific days.

Only one feature is missing. Such an elegant recipe collector! It would make the app perfect if I could sort of filter all recipes by the cooking time needed.

Leveling up my life with Mela. The ability to create a library of recipes that my wife and I love has made meal planning SO much easier/more enjoyable. Add the ability to quickly add groceries to a shared reminder list and I can confidently say I’ve reached the next tier of adulthood. Thanks Mela, for making me a better adult

Almost perfect. Great concept. Missing a few things. Can’t select text in a recipe, sometimes sync between accounts doesn’t work (maybe an issue with iCloud?).
