WHAT ARE JUPYTER NOTEBOOKS?

A Jupyter notebook is a versatile document format that enables you to store live code, markdown text, plots, images, and LaTeX equations — all within a single notebook file. This versatility makes Jupyter notebooks an exceptional learning tool, whether you're learning to code or honing your data analysis skills.

Notebook documents keep a record of all inputs and outputs from an interactive programming session, and the rich output generated by running Python scripts (including HTML, images, video, and plots) is embedded within the Jupyter notebook document. They are particularly convenient for coding in Python for data analysis, machine learning, or computational science in general.

A notebook comprises a sequence of cells, each representing either narrative text in markdown or HTML format, or a coding script with text or media output. This structure makes notebooks both human-readable documents containing analysis descriptions and results (figures, tables, etc.), as well as executable scripts for data analysis or general programming. You can use a Jupyter notebook as a document with optional executable code, or simply as a programming playground for data manipulation and experimentation.

WHO IS JUNO FOR?

Juno provides an exceptional programming environment for those using (or learning to use) Python for data analysis, machine learning, or computational science. Jupyter notebooks serve as an excellent educational tool for learning Python or practicing coding, especially in the context of data science. This makes Juno a perfect learning companion and a powerful developer tool for honing your programming and data analysis skills.

Makes all the difference on the iPad. I love using this. I really do. I can’t do the heavy lifting with large files on it but 90% of the light stuff I can on my iPad at the office with great joy. Thank you guys!

Buyer beware!. This app lacks functionality to work like an useful ide. The most important thing it doesnt have is Tensorflow. A lot of other important libraries is missing too. Also unlike Juno Connect it can't connect to external server! And they dont refund!

So Happy This Exists. I love this app, great to see it on the app store. I do hope to see theming support at some point - I would love to customize syntax and interface beyond just light/dark. Great app, works well, kudos.

Exactly what it says it is. This is a great Jupyter client for iOS. The only thing I wish it did would be to advance to the next cell automatically once the current cell is run.

Wow I am finally learning Python!. This thing is absolutely amazing. I’m very much a beginner/amateur, never used Jupyter, and know just enough python to frustrate myself with the potential and possibility. Having this on an iPad, and so functionally well contained, it has been a pure delight for a simpleton such as myself. My python learning is finally starting to stick. I’m addicted! (This isn’t to say you can’t do powerful advanced things, I just wouldn’t know, lol)

cannot install lots of packages.. Not so useful.

You can external packages. Great tool worth the mone. You can do most of what you might be used to with a desktop Jupyter notebook but with an iPad. Pure python packages can be installed on a per-notebook basis. I didn’t notice a way to install packages globally. I’ll keep digging and reading.

APP NEEDS IMPROVING FOR IPAD USERS. Im trying to figure out how to install sympy but none of the instructions have been clear or helpful. When I click on a notebook tile, it doesn’t give me the option to install a package at all. It’s not on the options list when you click a notebook tile. Also, trying to install sympy through anaconda website also has also been very confusing for an iPad user. It’s not user friendly at all. Many people really need help with this.

Data Science on your iPad!. Fantastic to be able to start out developing data science apps and analyses from my iPad. For those that outgrow my iPad, then I can transition them to a server (local or cloud) and keep right on working from my iPad using Juno Connect. Finally able to work almost exclusively from my iPad!

Excellent .. best paid app in a long time. Integrates well with files on iPad. I am doing my data science e-learning on iPad, and now can open up / edit / Run examples in iPad. Fantastic! I coded an IOS app before and submitted to AppStore, so I can appreciate the work done here. Worth every penny! Predictive text, import python modules, many popular already installed !! I love it. WELL DONE! I hope pywidgets work .. then have a new iOS application demo platform ; )

Works great, but crashes frequently.. The app crashes frequently in split screen mode. Otherwise, it is great for working with jupyter notebooks on the go. Just save your work frequently.

Pandas Support. Overall, the app works well however it only supports pandas 1.0.3 even though current version is 1.5.3

Jupyter on iPad!!. Great implementation, the interface is thoughtful, simple, and elegant, just like Jupyter! I’ve had no crashes and there’s a good number of well respected libraries, plus you can load others provided they’re pure Python. Nice!

Work likes Jupyter Notebook; makes it easy to use Python on the iPad. I am a Bioinformatician and I use Jupyter Notebook and Python as part of my workflow. Every now and then I like to take a break from using my computer, and simply use my iPad Pro to write Python scripts. I really like this app as it suits this purpose. Juno works like Jupyter Notebook, with the markdown style, python console, and even the functional keys of “B”, “A”, “M”, when adding a new line below, above, and markdown that makes Jupyter Notebook easy to use. I haven’t had any issues with delays, crashes, or bugs. It works great, and to take things a step further, I would really like to see R included as a language for this app. There is definitely a need for it.

Revolutionary. Pythonista, which I also have, was ahead of its time. However, it really didn't keep up. Juno is the golden standard now, nothing short of revolutionary. It puts an entire Python scientific and ML development environment in your device, including a Python interpreter, Jupyter, NumPy, Matplotlib, Pandas, SciPy, Scikit-learn and a few other libraries and packages. Oh, plus the capability to install additional pure Python libraries, such as SymPy. Fantastic and highly recommended.

Crashing. You gave incorrect response to my submission I try again, it crashes when opening

Does not save. Sometimes deletes all my work after not saving

iPad IS a computer. Probably the best $20 I’ve spent in the app store. Now I can work outside without a laptop.

A powerful tool for iOS. My main Jupyter environment is Anaconda on my Mac. I use GitHub to sync about 30 notebooks and their associated Python source files over to Juno (both on my iPad and on my iPhone) so I can give impromptu demos and make small changes and improvements no matter where I am. Over time Juno has matured and grown fairly robust. I’m especially glad that Python 3.10 support came out in May 2023. Alex Staravoitau responded quickly when I reported a configuration glitch in the new Python 3.10 release (the Bokeh plotting library required a different version of jinja2). He gave me a temporary workaround and within a couple of days got a corrected version out to the App Store. Juno is probably my most favorite app. It’s been extraordinarily useful. A strong five stars!

Really good. But.... This is a great tool. Well worth the money. The one problem I have is it doesn’t persist in memory very well when switching apps. When returning to this app, it has to reload, playing the splash screen, and lands you at the file browser window. It doesn’t even reopen the notebook you were working in. Very annoying. Other than that, I find it to be solid and highly useful.

Many packages not supported. Scipy Scikit-learn Scikit-image Pillow .... many other packages are unsupported.

Good Job. 👍

On the right track. Having access to Jupyter notebooks from an IpadPro is a fantastic productivity advance. I think the developer is on the right track and the app feels great!. Keep those updates coming...please!

How do I get a refund?. I was thinking of using this app to do an NLP project, but many of the packages I needed included C files in them, so I coudln't install. Than I need the Juno Connect to do the job and I'd like to have refund of Juno. How do I take procedure to this?

Package Problems. Rolled the dice even though I couldn’t find a list of supported packages from PyPi. BioPython doesn’t work. “Package installer requires features not available on iOS.” :/

Excellent, Useful, and Fun Tool!. The only issue I’ve encountered thus far is that ‘assert’ statements don’t do anything at all, and I really rely on them in certain cases.

I want to return this product. It doesn’t work. You can get your stuff running. Native IPad OS blocks everything!

Great App, But Refreshing issue. This app really increases iPad productivity and power. Nothing really says a powerful tablet like being able to write scripts on it, and this app enables the tablet to be just that. Just tag on a keyboard and you’re basically using a laptop. It has a great layout and is extremely intuitive and well built. HOWEVER, whenever I want to switch between other apps for referencing (which is often), I find that I have to wait for Juno to “boot up” again. The app boots up really fast, so this issue is really more of an annoyance than an inconvenience. Aside from that small issue, it is 5/5!

Jupyter Notebook for iOS. It’s like jupyter notebook for your iOS devices. It’s terrific!

The most useful iOS tool for python. An invaluable tool to allow the portability of learning, practicing, and implementation of python. Thank you

Omg, i should have read the critical reviews. I have the exactly the same problems with other reviewers on tensorflow. As iPad should have enough compute power for some machine learning, I thought it would be cool that I can test out the structure on iPad and then apply somewhere else. This software can’t do that.

Good app. Worth the price

Excellent way to keep working without needing to carry a laptop. I use Juno on my phone to keep working on data analysis concepts and testing code while I am away from my computer, and as it integrates through files to DropBox it is then simply a matter of opening the notebook in Anaconda on the computer, and everything works. I use a couple of packages that ate not Python native, or haven’t been translated yet, but that is only a very minor issue.

incredible. the real deal

Works as well as Jupyter...as far as I know. And I don’t know much about coding lol

Very cool. Great product

Working great so far. I bought this after having issues opening Excel files in another app with Jupyter Notebook support. Everything has been seamless so far. The autocomplete has also been quite nice, including suggesting column name strings. I haven’t been able to get the ‘connect to Google Drive’ to work. That is annoying as iCloud is not a decent alternative for sharing files across platforms.

It’s fantastic.. It’s the best version of what it does, hands down. Just leaving this review because after several months of great use, I ran into the first bug. Latest version, as it was offloaded by iCloud and just finished re-downloading. It immediately would crash on my iPhone XS, Black. I deleted and reinstalled… It’s fixed now. Great work guys!

When are you going to update the Python latest version!!!etc….Requesting New features. We need this *advanced New features*!!! When are you going to update the Python version (Python 3.10.0/Python 3.9.9), add new programming languages such as R, Julia, C++, JavaScript, C#, Swift and more programming languages, update the latest Python3 frameworks/libraries, add Tensorflow, add Keras, add PyTorch and integrate Kaggle deep learning and integrate GitHub. Dev(s) we need this advanced features if you want this “Juno” app to be called a “pro ml/data science” app

Amazing. Having python and a markdown editor in your pocket is something that has been long overdue for the iPhone. Keep up the great work, this app is quite impressive.

Just getting started. So far this has been a very handy app. I can code up ideas while traveling. So far I have been working with the original autograd since Jax and Pytorch do not seem to be supported yet. I may be wrong, but either way this app has been useful for my needs.

Excellent!. Works great, huge convenience to run locally. Would like to have access to larger set of libraries so hope that is coming soon.

It was going great until my work unexpectedly went missing. Beware.. It was going great until my work unexpectedly went missing. Beware.

Great app. How can I use tensorflow (PyTorch) using Juno?

Could be better. I wish we could install packages that are not python pure (e.g. astropy)

Crashes too often for being a paid programming app. I started using this app to make my online learning more mobile but its actually a bit frustrating how much it crashes on iPhone 12 Pro and on ipad mini. No problems in desktop Jupyter. 3stars cause the other stuff works well. Thank you

Keeps getting better. A really solid Jupyter implementation.

Recent Update Wiped out my ability to use the app. The recent update to 1.2.8 has completely destroyed the utility of this app. Not only did it wipe out all my notebooks and time-consuming painstaking installation of MANY pure python pypi packages for my notebooks, but upon uninstall/reinstall it doesn’t create its base set of files and thus I can’t even begin again. New notebooks cannot be created or executed. Will revise upon developer resolution of this massive issue. Before this it was an awesome tool.

Wow. They must have hid the rename file button. Literally no way to rename a new untitled notebook. Come on y’all!

really nice. I am a mathematician and I like to use C, Fortran and Lua to do computations. After so many years, I decided to try Python for Math and Juno made it so easy for me to transition. So far, I like it and I have been able to use the libraries that I need to do my job like Numpy, SciPy and Pandas. Very nice tool and the support seems to be excellent.

GOOD but still need to work on it. My workflow is highly dependent on Notebooks and I use Juno when my PC is occupied. The experience using Juno is good in general, but I found the “sjoin”function in Geopandas doesn’t work as it requires “rtree” or “Pygeos”. Could you please help me with this? Thanks.

Stable and perfect for iOS. Pandas, Matplotlib and bumpy functionality are really well implemented, great functionality and easy to use. Does a good job even with Apple’s sandboxing

Not good. Can not install package as shown in ad

App crashes when file is unavailable. Juno crashes whenever it can’t find a file that was previously opened from the network (when re-opening the app). This is a bug that needs to be fixed.

Wow!. This totally does what it says on the box! You can edit Jupyter notebooks and run them locally on the iPad. The editor interface is still a bit basic, but please buy this app to support the developer. The price is totally appropriate and iPad users have been waiting a long time for this, a first I believe for notebooks.

Amazing!. One of the most valuable apps on my iPad Pro. Looking forward to future releases!

JUNO. Excellent app to do data analysis via portable Jupyter notebook on your iPhone. Great access to libraries such as pandas, numpy, seaborn etc. Only hitch so far is if you have to leave app temporarily (eg to retrieve information, lookup code etc) you can’t get back into JUNO without restarting iPhone. If that could be fixed it would be a 5!

5 stars. This is amazing app!

Great! But would like google drive. After testing multiple apps for running Python code, I’m really happy to have found this one! The ability to save files on iCloud/OneDrive is great however, all of my jupyter notebooks are stored on google drive as it’s used for Uni (google colab). I only have .py files saved in iCloud. It would be amazing if there was the ability to access files from a google drive too. I use this app a lot on the go, but want to keep all my notebooks stored in the same place without needing to duplicate them. If this isn’t possible I’ll consider transferring them to OneDrive, but want to know if google drive integration could be featured in the future first 😊 P.s. Thanks! I no longer need to sit for hours at a computer desk and can work on projects no matter where I am!

Great App w/ Some Frustrating Bugs. Fundamentally, I think this app is well worth your money, as it captures the jupyter notebook experience really well. If you are worried about it being a half baked app, its not. However, it is buggy. Crashes not infrequently, and perhaps the most frustrating will bug out and scroll to the current cell output, not code, every time you press a key. This means your code is offscreen and your are coding blind. The only thing that fixes this is a full restart, but then you need to run through your whole workflow again. Additionally, you cannot change font size and with the aggressive scaling on iPadOS means you can’t fit much code onto your screen. Overall I would say it justifies its price over and above say, Carnets. Just needs some more QAQC

Just a suggestion. I use this app often for Uni. I noticed that while on an iPad pro you cannot have a dual screen (i.e have juno open twice on the page). I feel this could be really helpful. Otherwise really user friendly!

Great Jupyter App. This app is great for most data science use cases. The selection of packages is quite good, although it would be good to see Keras / Tensorflow be implemented. (If it’s even possible) As a more realistic suggestion, it would be great if you could update the app to allow the editing and running of regular .py files in addition to notebooks. (Useful for writing and testing libraries that may be used in notebooks)

Support for scipy?. This app is amazing! I use it to make writeups for my physics labs. One thing it’s missing though is scipy support. It would be really great if a future update made it possible to add scipy as a package.

Newly returned to coding; great platform. Recent return to coding after decades off. Played with a couple IDE’s on desktop. This is an excellent platform to code on my iPad. The portability is exceptionally convenient. I’ve been exchanging programs from Juno and VS, without problem. So far, well worth the price ... and I’ve only just started.

Cant import most packages. If you need to run anything but a few very standard packages, forget Juno.

Not able to use pip to install packages. Can’t install new packages

Modules and libraries. Unfortunately, I can’t install many modules like Scapy and Latexify and port audio … and so many modules and libraries (or do not work properly ) , Why do you charge so much for such a weak app?

How to change font size?. Cannot change font size, no setting for the!

Great app for on the go, can’t replace Jupyter. You've done an amazing job with what your working with (restrictions of iOS) and I’ll keep using it for looking at things on the go. Some great features: - the UI is adapted well for iPad without being too different from Jupyter A++. This is why I’m able to use it on iPad. - decent number of packages (of course this work is endless) Some things to improve: - text size adjustment (not iOS based) - allow case agnostic intelligence as an option - the CWD behaviour is very weird and has caused some errors on my part - a ipython terminal would be awesome for small investigations For packages, I would wonder if condo-forge could be convinced to compile packages for iOS. Anyways, great work and I look forward to future updates.

outdated python. The latest juno-1.5.2 is still based on an ancient python-3.6. Any plans to upgrade to python-3.10 ?

Love this app. This works for my purposes of being able to code on an iPad using Jupyter notebook. One question I have is how to change the comment font color?

Good Job. 👍

Output. I use a lot of print statements to debug my code, and with no command prompts I can’t debug my code easily

Works very well with a few minor gripes. This app works, as far as I can tell, exactly as advertised. I really appreciate the work that went into this, and this can be a great starting off point for hashing out different ideas. I was surprised at how well their kernel works - great work on that, developers! The one gripe that I have - that is a big one for me - is that I cannot find any way to make the text bigger or smaller. I’ve got pretty good eyesight, and being able to see *more* code at once is incredibly important to me… which is why I’m disappointed that there doesn’t seem to be any way to change the font size. It seems like this would be a very easy feature to add and, for me, would make the difference between using this app just when my cloud connection is down to using it on a day-to-day basis. Thanks for the great work, developers, and I hope you can consider this suggestion.

Incredible; even better than jupyter notebooks on laptop!. I never leave reviews, but I had to leave one for this app. It is absolutely incredible, and might even allow me to finally get rid of my laptop for good! I use Jupyter notebooks as a data scientist in the public policy sector. We’re visualization-driven, so being able to install my favorite packages like plotly and geopandas was a must. Juno SOMEHOW allows you to install python packages — I was blown away — and that makes it all work perfectly! I imported a notebook I’d been recently working on, and I didn’t have to change a single line of code in order to get it working on my iPad Pro; it just worked! Like I said, amazing app. 100% worth it. Plus, if you care about design at all, you’ll appreciate Juno’s UI — so much nicer looking than jupyter notebooks on Mac. Amazing!!

Great tool and excellent improvements in 2.0.. I love Juno! I use it to write python code in my iPad mini, and the enhancements in 2.0 are extremely helpful and make the tool more robust, especially the working directory feature and the new text editor. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU COULD ADD CELL COLLAPSING (to hide code). That is a must for writing code on an iOS device, as without it is difficult to keep track of things when writing long, complex programs. But again, very grateful for 2.0. Keep up the awesome work!

Just getting started. So far this has been a very handy app. I can code up ideas while traveling. So far I have been working with the original autograd since Jax and Pytorch do not seem to be supported yet. I may be wrong, but either way this app has been useful for my needs.

So wanted to like but now just want a refund. It’s running python 3.6! This is a 6 year old version of python that was end of supported in Dec 2021. How can you in good faith sell this in Sep 22 for $14.99 without disclosing that! It’s a toy at best a scam at worst. Please refund.

Brittle like a snowflake — package manager. This app seems great. I often need to test small pieces of code out as I’m working on bigger projects. It’s really convenient to do this on my iPad because it’s so portable. I found Juno and immediately bought it. It was a perfect solution for me. I dug in and started working some prototyping with Numpy and SciPy. I quickly discovered that Juno “pins” specific packages which means they cannot be deleted or UPGRADED. Numpy was several minor releases behind as well as pandas. The functions I needed from their APIs is in newer releases. This was a total surprise to me and it really presents some limitations in what I can do. I think Juno is a great concept and the interface/layout/setup seems well done. I’m not sure how useful it will be to me in the long run if it tails behind current releases for common packages by such a margin. It would be great if there was a way to vote or provide some input for needing packages so that the company might be able to prioritize releasing them better. I do see Juno Connect as an offering as well unfortunately it will mean setting up a Jupyter server and then at that point I’m having to maintain that somehow too. Not ideal. Update: the developer is very responsive to feedback and is understanding if technical issues which is greatly appreciated.

Superb ipynb editor. Cleanest user experience I've had in an iPados code editor, possibly besides Swift Playgrounds. Many iPados developers could learn from Juno what an IDE on this platform could look like.

Fantastic App from a seasoned developer. I normally don’t invest in many paid apps, but the developer did a bang up job on this. This and another app called Pythonista are my favorite go to apps for doing python and data science. I actually took a course on Machine Learning and Data science on Udemy and used Juno on my IPad Pro 12.9 for the entire course , worked like a charm. I just wish that there was a version for Android 😀😀😀 Keep up the good work 👍🏿

Python on IPAD!. Amazing in itself being able to really code on an IPad. Nice to do quick analysis of public data etc. However when put in background has to restart itself when returned to foreground. With IPad Pro you can do side-by-side which helps with this when for example switching back and forth between a notebook and safari. The worse thing is it tends to crash during bigger operations such as reading a CSV, or plotting a graph, so far not enough to prevent work but enough to be annoying, 2 or 3 times in the 24 hours or so I’ve been using it.

Bangarang.. Bangarang.
