Bait and switch techniques. Writing five stars so my review goes to the top. The thing that I don’t like is the bait and switch techniques used where the price advertised is not the price reflected at checkout. I have reported it for days with no help. The price displayed online on my laptop is also different than the app. I hope someone helps me soon and resolved this issue because as a customer who has spent a lot of money, I would like to have a fair and honest sales transaction. I also think the tutors should be paid for the trial lessons since they are charging us. The trial lesson price displayed on the profile, has been different at checkout.

Fabulous language learning experience. Learning with my tutor through Preply has made me into an increasingly intermediate Italian speaker. You can find the private tutor that fits your style and needs, watching posted tutor videos and reading profiles. My tutor and I send messages and files through the app. However, we use Zoom for meetings as the quality is better than meeting through Preply. There are lesson reminders, notifications of any cancelled or changed lessons, and indication of the amount of hours purchased and those remaining. The app is available in 4-5 languages (more please!) and I love to be able to use it (listing new words learned) in Italian.

David B.. Carlo has been my instructor on Preply for the past several months. He is an excellent instructor. He is patient and kind. He is able to adroitly shift from basic questions about vocabulary and useful phrases, to complex grammar, to topics such as Italian history and literature. I have progressed, thanks to Carlo, from almost no competence in Italian to regular conversations with him in Italian. While in Italy this fall, Carlo was extremely helpful, giving travel advice and continued help with my spoken Italian. He is very well-organized and prepares interesting lessons on day-to- day users of Italian. His English is excellent, so that if you know little or no Italian, there is no problem whatsoever with communication in English. I highly recommend Carlo and would be happy to answer questions about the lessons I have had thus far.

Review for Georgia Kiritsaki. I have been studying under Georgia as a beginner for several months now. I have studied other languages for the US Foreign Service and am fluent in Arabic, Spanish and French to a certain extent. I am writing to commend Georgia for her teaching techniques and style. Even with only one lesson each week, or sometimes two per week when I can, I can feel the progress I am making. Georgia keeps her focus clearly on the areas I need to command to move beyond beginner status and ensures that I keep working to achieve those goals. She is also very supportive of the varied ideas I have to fit the program to my interests, and, finally, she is such a pleasure to spend time with each week. We both laugh at my mistakes (of which she is always 100 per cent supportive and is laughing with me, not at me, always). I finish each class having made clear progress, with a complete understanding of the next steps, and fired up with the excitement of continuing to learn under Georgia’s guidance. She is a real asset to your programs.

Not connecting to calendar. It would’ve been nice if my lesson could’ve connected to my calendar or used AM/PM designations. I could’ve sworn I chose a 4 pm time slot but my instructor read 4 am. I couldn’t go back to see what I’d selected but my reminder in the app only referred to 4:00. I don’t want to risk more mistakes and waste money or not get the time I booked (I had no indication that I’d not been booked for 4 pm). Also, it’s unnecessarily unclear how the session will take place. I’d expected to get some clear prompting about where to “show up” for the session, but that was left to my instructor to give me the details, so it wasn’t seamless. If this is a booking app only, that’s cool. But without the calendar connection function and any automated direction, it didn’t really make much easier.

Finally!!!. I have searched and searched for an app that would help me learn the Serbian Language. I even checked my local colleges and for local tutors but the best I could do was find Croatian on a couple of apps. After about 2 years of trying to get better I did another search and Preply came up as an option. Not only do they have MANY Serbian tutors, but it’s very affordable! I am learning and I am LOVING it! I feel like I have made my very own friend in Serbia. Finally impressing my fiance when I speak to him in his native language. I’m sharing Preply with everyone I know that wants to learn a language. There are so many to choose from too!

Shady Business, Terrible Customer Service. Read this closely, it's important to understand so that you don't waste your hard-earned money. They sell their tutoring via subscription, NOT per lesson (your hours of lessons are bundled into a single purchase and your subscription is many times more expensive than a single lesson). Let's say you use just one of those hours and are unhappy with Preply... they will NOT refund you for your remaining hours under any circumstances. I'm not the only one whose stated this as a problem, check their other reviews. I encourage you to think long and hard before giving a single cent to this company. Their cancellation/rescheduling policy is also set-up in the business's best interest and NOT the student's (my tutor and I lost a few hours because of this). My tutor was phenomenal, but the Preply platform is ruthless when it comes to taking all your money. Maybe you're cool with or used to a business working like this, but there are more caring/considerate options out there. I'm not saying don't use Preply, just know what you're getting into before you give them your money.

Absolutely awful customer service and app. The app constantly makes me pay for more than my monthly subscription. Tutors constantly move forward their classes to the next month which means I do not get the class that I paid for and the next month I am paying again for the sub subscription for that month. When I talk to their customer service to get a refund, they refuse to give me the refund even though this has been happening for months on end when I told them I have a balance of nine classes left around $160. they still refused to give me my money back and said I should just schedule classes. The only problem with that is the Tutor only has certain number of classes in a week and is not able to do any more classes to get my money back and they won’t let me delay the subscription so that I can actually use the money that already is in the system so basically again and again they try and con you to spending more money absolutely awful up many many better ones out there would suggest you never ever start this app.

Inefficient customer service. I initially started using Preply in the summer of 2020. Found a great tutor. I got a new phone and for some reason Preply couldn’t assist in helping me reset the password for the account actually told me I never had an account. I had to give them My cc info for them to find that what I had been saying was true. I then signed up again with my Apple ID added $50 with the tutor whom I like. After a class I went to register more classes and the system is saying again that it doesn’t recognize my info. Which means I don’t have access to my money. Julia had been in contact but there has been no follow up since Friday when I initially reached out. Very frustrating bc I don’t want to lose my money that I added nor do I want to lose my connection with the tutor. Still waiting to hear from them. Very poor system if every time I’m done with a class I’ll Never be able to access it again from my phone- the same place I signed up for the service through an app. I’m Just not sure what’s going on but I know I have money in their system and can’t access it and I want my money back. Apparently their platform isn’t gonna work for me. NEED SOMEONE TO RECTIFY THIS ASAP! -thanks

Difficult to Trust this platform. When you end a session early, there's probably a reason. The poorly constructed dialog gives you barely a handful of reasons, none of which include "tutor did not turn up". That is just a single one of numerous frustrating problems with this app. Just means that the customer in this app ends up being the one doing all the running around trying to make sure they get their lesson, or the money back. Preply happily leaves that work for you, the paying student to address. But bugs are bugs, they will get fixed, so what’s the problem? Well, these “bugs” seem to follow a pattern, they all fail in favor of Preply getting money, and that’s about the only thing that’s guaranteed. Lessons expire within a month, and trying to switch from a schedule to an ad-how mode… nope—can’t do that. Softly forcing you to forfeit your money. Only option is to cancel your tutor, then back into running around more —explain to them why you did so, then start booking sessions again. Money management and the calendar aren’t well implemented, frustrating at best. But let’s focus on the real issue —poor software is forgivable, developers will read customer feedback and address them, but setting up traps and forcing money extraction is a betrayal of trust.

Finally found what I wanted!. I’ve had a lot of fun learning Korean! I like that it is flexible and you can plan lessons whenever you want. It’s also nice that you can reschedule. You just have to make sure you do it 12hours in advance which I can forget sometimes. But my teacher is amazing and super understanding! She makes it fun and I’m sure it’s a combination of that and the ease of the app. The interface isn’t hard to understand and there are many language options ☺️ my teacher is always saying how I should teach English on here and she will help me. One day I will write a review from the teacher perspective haha.

Do not use this app. We’ve had a terrible experience. We started with an amazing tutor that within a few weeks told us he was going to another app because preply does not treat their tutors well or supply enough students for them. My son was very disappointed but we were told to get another tutor which we did then he quit as well and went to another app and then a third tutor. Each of the tutors was wonderful but didn’t want to stay on Preply.I have politely asked numerous times to have a refund since this is not acceptable that we’ve had to change 3 tutors within two months. My son was excited to take Spanish but now after having to be bumped around so many times he has lost interest. Now I’m still stuck with Preply having my money and not giving me a refund. They kept advertising us to buy one of their packages which I bought their best and biggest package spending a lot of money. We started with another language app called a italkie and we’ve had the same tutor for the past month and he’s wonderful and told us that many of the tutors he knows don’t work with Preply because they don’t provide students for their tutors and don’t have a good system for the tutors. It’s frustrating because it’s not our fault so we should get a refund stay away from this app. They sucked me in by enticing me with a price deal if I bought a big package which I did and now I’m stuck with them having my money.

Amazing BUT there are a couple glitches. I have been using Preply for a little over a month now and I think it’s really amazing. I find it really convenient to learn a new language one on one with someone willing to teach you! I have been experiencing a couple glitches while using the app. During my first lesson with my Tagalog tutor, I was able to view what we went over after our first session was done. After our first lesson, I was glad that I was able to copy down what we went over until over the next month, I wasn’t able to view the lesson slides she sent me via Preply. I then told my tutor and she has been nice enough to send me the lessons via Skype! Also sometimes the audio or screen will cut out or not function properly so we usually do our lessons on Skype as an alternative option, which I’m happy about! Anyways, if you guys want to learn a second language such as Japanese, Korean, Tagalog, German, etc. learn to your hearts content with this app! ❤️

My Russian Teacher is a incredible. Katrina Z speaks Russian beautifully. She started by carefully considering my goals and tastes and every lesson takes me further in direction O want to go. She incorporates challenging grammatical content, fascinating cultural notes and through it all encourages encourages me by seeming genuinely excited to be turning on so many lights for me. On the one hand she ambitious like me, but at the same time she makes grammar drills, reading and listening assignments fit my needs and my sense or fun. She corrects me without ever being condescending treats my errors opportunities to improve. I’m sure she’s decades younger than I, but in our lessons I feel like I have a kind attentive (not to mention drop dead gorgeous) Mamochka. I woke up this morning for my lesson and told myself «Мне очень повезло», (“I’m very lucky”) with such a teacher.

Preply Helped Me Enjoy Learning A New Language. I really struggled learning language in school because they went through the units so quickly and were focused on getting you to pass the test over understanding the material. It made me feel like I wasn’t capable of learning a language. However preply has given me an affordable way to learn a language at my own speed and learning needs. I feel incredibly empowered after my sessions and I feel like I am actually understanding Korean instead of struggling to keep up in a class. This is allowing me to learn more about my partners culture and connect with their family. I don’t mean to sound dramatic but preply is changing my life for the better and I really can’t say that about any other app I have ever used. Huge thanks to the developers and instructors!

Native speaker. What an unique opportunity to work with a native speaker. My lessons are scheduled each week and the system is just amazing. The video is not crystal clear BUT the sound and picture is just fine. I can get and print my assignments thru the app and when I am on my iPad during our lesson, she can send me messages that I can read on my phone in real time. This helps if she needs to type a word or a phrase that I am not understanding orally. She does not speak one word of English (my native tongue). I was worried it might not work but after three lessons- I am sold!!! So glad I stumbled across this sight surfing the internet.

My Preply Review. Well Preply is great for learning with private teachers for any subject and good prices i've had a wonderful experience on preply amazing however preply i strongly agree can use a few changes Like the 12 hour policy it should be whenever because nobody is perfect and things happen but we should not lose our money to lessons we cannot make due to different circumstances i've talked to the preply team a few times and they've always been able to help or are too lazy to want to help also i'm a student these lessons are expensive and i only get a few once a week and i barely get preply credit as it is to help pay for these because these are classes i do dont have a option to at school due to this this is why i use preply however i love preply i recommend it but the 12 hours policy needs to go

A godsend!. I am so happy that I came across PrePly! I discovered it from an Instagram ad a little more than a year ago and I wish that I had found this platform far earlier. I took four years of Spanish classes in university, and my Spanish improved so much faster with the tutors on PrePly than it did over the course of those four years. Now, I am close to a year mark of taking Chinese classes through PrePly, and am 10 lessons in to French classes via tutors on the platform. I am always recommending this app to anyone who is interested in learning a different language. Finding excellent private tutors for very reasonable prices is a godsend. I love love love this platform. I only wish that I had found it years ago!

Delightful teacher. I am working on my German because my daughter has moved to Germany with her husband, who is German, and she is raising my 2 granddaughters there. Dagmar is an amazing teacher. She has given me 2 Christmas stories and helped me practice so that I can share with my daughter and her family when I see them this Christmas. Dagmar has a background in teaching and literature, so she is very experienced. She has now identified that I can decipher German well with the written words ( I am a retired grade-school librarian) and I can read German aloud quite well, BUT now the difficult work is conversation and understanding SPOKEN German. I appreciate her clear diction and slow speaking to help me follow SPOKEN German. Lots of hard work ahead. She does not make me feel embarrassed when I try to express my thoughts in German. She patiently corrects my grammar. I am gaining confidence each lesson.

Loved it until I got behind on lessons and you loose your money. Loved it! It was very reasonable in price. I was able to have a tutor from the country (actually in the country) that I wanted to learn the language from. But with busy life I got behind on lessons and they transfer over to the next month but only 25% the rest you loose. They say as long as you schedule them you won’t loose them but then it is a catch up that now behind but they are going to keep charging every 28 days for more lessons and it was a pit that I was going to get deeper in and loose more lessons which is actually money. I had to pause my account because there was a week or 2 that I couldn’t do lessons but knowing when I unpaused it I had more then 25% lessons left and would immediately be charged 8 more lessons when I unpaused it that I was going to loose money and be caught in a catch up cycle and possibly loose even more money. I should of had them refund 2 of my lessons and just lost the other 2. As now they have cancelled my subscription because it was paused too long and lost the whole amount.

Best Language Learning App I’ve Ever Tried. I started learning mandarin last year and used DuoLingo, Du, and other websites with educational programs and nothing compares to Preply. First of all, the app is so organized. They send you notifications on things like class reminders, motivation, resources, etc. The design of the app is very user friendly. There are so many teachers in the platform, all with different experience and education, so you truly have options and range for budgeting. My teacher is amazing, her reviews were great. After every lesson, she sends me a pdf of what we worked on, and highlights the parts I have to memorize by next class. She sends me links of resources, PowerPoints, I sometime send her pics of my writing and mandarin memes, she is kind and knows when to push me further. I love how students leave detailed reviews, it really helps to choose your teacher. Also, the teachers have the option to make a video or a written introduction about themselves, and you can have a chat with them or even book a session to get to know them before you get the weekly subscription. I’m just so happy I found this app through an add, its really helping me level up my mandarin. Good luck to everyone out there on their language journey!

this website changed my life. because of this website/app, I not only found a wonderful tutor, but also made a new friend across the world! and if you would have told me a year ago that I would be attending this tutor's wedding, all because we got to know each other through our lessons on Preply, I wouldn't have believed you. now 2 of my friends are learning different languages with their own tutors & we meet to show each other what we've learned- it's simply the best. the passion I have for learning languages now shocks me. you'd think this was a paid ad with how highly I speak of this website, but seriously, give it a chance. so many different things to learn, so many tutors, so many opportunities to get better at something, talk to new people, & make new friends.

Sneaky Hidden Policy. There website and app says that there’s a free replacement or refund option for a trial lesson so if your unhappy with the tutor you can get your money back or a trial replacement and try another tutor. However what they don’t tell you until much later is that if you choose the trial replacement option you only get 2 free trials and they don’t tell you until you’ve used your free trials which is very sneaky. They’re response so that is that there’s an article with this information however you have to menu dive past 4 sub sections to reach it on the very bottom of the sub section. It’s very hidden and very sneaky on there behalf and 2 of the agents apologized for the Inconvenience, however apologize doesn’t solve anything they need to change that and make it known to their customers before they use up there trial lesson replacements that they only get 2.

Used to love, but now feels scammy. I used to love this app but they changed a lot of policies. Some helped and some didn’t. However, A few of the policies now make it very difficult if you have a busy schedule. I bought 6 lesson pack and wasn’t able to use it even after rolling over (which you’re limited to one time and then the lessons expire and they take your money), but then they wouldn’t refund me because it was over 28 days ago. The thing is, you don’t get alerted until it’s too late about these policies. Now I’m out almost 100$ and the customer service is laughably bad. They just say sorry but you should block off a time and then reschedule when you’re able to come. Essentially screwing the tutors because you have to block time off THEIR schedule that you don’t intend to use, just to keep the lessons from expiring. How bad for the tutor and customer, but not Preply. Go somewhere else, it’s not worth the hassle and them trying to make money over actually having an honest policies that help both parties and not just themselves. Sheesh. Hope y’all enjoy the money.

Thank you to Bryan @ Preply!. I did a trial lesson with a tutor in the beginning of February and loved her style. A few days later, I scheduled a subscription to her. Then the worst happened and I became very ill in the following days. I couldn’t schedule lessons because I was too sick and tired. I am now recovering and wanted to study to get back to lessons. I have four from that subscription I hadn’t used, and I scheduled them for the middle of March as I have a work commitment the first two weeks of March. I just got a statement from my bank I was charged for four new lessons, now putting my total at 8 that I hadn’t used. The problem is I do lessons once per week, and would continue to have a surplus of lessons if it went on. I contacted Preply in the app and was connected with Bryan, who immediately offered a refund of the latest subscription and told me I can pick it back up when I’m able. So now I can use the first subscription’s lessons and then restart the subscription! Within minutes my bank processed the refund — while I was still talking to Bryan! What amazing customer service. 10/10 would recommend. Thank you Bryan!

Preply Redeemed. Preply customer support in the end saved the day. I thought they were going to abandoned their customer service for money but they didn’t. The company values there customer and values person comments when it comes to their service. They took care of me in the end when I needed support and complained on apple reviews about a cancellation of a subscription I didn’t even know I had. Their support team reached out to me via through email and They refunded me the amount I lost and helped me through the thick and thin. Updated my review from 1 star to 4 star because it meant allot to me that this company did that for me and I appreciate them taking care me and will continue on to learn through Preply as my favorite app.

4 stars because... Preply is a good app. It’s easy to find tutors and they can reach out to you if they want to. The reason I put 4 stars is because I personally find it difficult to get to my notes from previous lessons. I spent a good 20 minutes surfing through Preply’s website on my laptop, and I couldn’t even get to my notes on the Preply app on my phone. In other words, I don’t think notes and homework are accessible through the mobile app, but I’m still slightly new to Preply. I’ve been using it for almost a month now. Even in the FAQ or answered questions, directions were very vague from other users. You would think clicking the ‘My Lessons’ button would allow you to see all your lessons; past and future with the ability to click the previous lessons that take you to your notes and all that. This is the only thing I have to complain about as a student trying to find notes and homework easily.

If so happen the tutor is no longer available, no refund. I’ve been use Preply for a few years now. The tutors are great. But the customers from this portal become so bad! They DO NOT CARE! When my son’s previous tutor quit, I had 48 hours left in the account, but I was told I won’t be able to get part of the refund because the purchase was made 3 months ago, and I can only transfer. But 8 hours out 48 are no good, because those are from advance payments discount. So I ended up paid for fees again and the class was canceled by the representative without notice and lost 8 hours (even though I made the advance payments) It’s disappointing not only they didn’t make the progress easy but take advantage of customer. Because they know there’s nothing you can do. You won’t hire a lawyer for small things like this. I will probably keep use the portal because the nice teachers. But I will not recommend it to my friends anymore. When you start and refill, need to think twice. If you can’t finish the classes in 3 months, you need to know you won’t get the money back.

Best language app & tutor situation I've found. Amazing. Finally! The only bad thing about getting off Instagram for so long is that I missed the ads for this app. If I had found this app a year ago I'd be fully fluent now. The amount I've progressed in just the last month is like combining my progress of the last 2 years into a single month. I'm excited. I wake up having dreamt in Spanish and I can read and understand and fumble out sentences and even jokes that make my husband and our friends laugh sometimes. Finally! I can't wait to see what another month or 3 or 6 will bring.

Credits. I really like the app, but if you buy credits and you don’t use them within a month, they take them from you. I think I just lost $80. I don’t remember the exact amount that I paid last month, because it’s all gone! So in this regard, it feels like my money is being stolen. I hope they change this feature. If I find a similar app that doesn’t do this, I’ll probably try that one instead. I also don’t like that I have to subscribe to regular sessions with someone and pay for an entire month in advance before I can even see that person’s schedule. Then, if I find out that their schedule doesn’t match up with mine, I have to search for another tutor whose schedule works with mine. If I don’t find that tutor in time, they will again take my money. I originally gave this app 3 stars… but now that I think about it, I will give it 2 simply because I value good ethics.

Rating of App Policy - Not the Tutors. The tutors on Preply are amazing. This review is based on their terrible refund policy. I had to pause my subscription due to scheduling issues and had accrued unused lessons due to my tutor cancelling on me. You better remember the fine print and set a reminder to ask for a refund before 28 days. If life happens and you’re sidetracked by something like a parent’s illness and only remember to ask for a refund after the 28 days…you’re out of luck and won’t get your money back for services never rendered or used. Department stores have bigger refund windows. Shame on you, Preply. ADDED UPDATE - got the same copy and paste answer to this post, which shows they do not really read these comments. Stay away from this app unless you don’t mind bad refund policies and auto renewal set ups that just look to take your money.

Bad UI/UX design & low quality tutor pool makes for subpar experience.. The app and website often have buttons that don’t work and particularly with the app it is really ridiculously hard to filter for the language you want to be tutored in. You would think a company whose job is to connect people with tutors would make them easier to find. In addition the tutor quality is weak and so it makes it hard to find qualified tutors. Sure anyone who is a native speaker can have conversations in their language but having a bare minimum certification requirement would greatly increase the credibility in their tutoring pool. If Preply wants to just take its clients money without concern about their education then I get it, but if they actually care about clients learning then they should do better. Additionally it’s clear the company does not do tutor development as the quality among tutors varies immensely and there’s no standards for post session reports or even in their lessons. These are very simple but impactful systems that are lacking. All in all, Preply is like Craigslist for tutors.

Disappointed as a teacher. I’ve taught with Preply for nearly three years. I think the platform is great and customer service is usually quite helpful…They take a percentage from teachers because they of course help you find students and need to pay for running the company. So I totally get that…For my first two years there were no fees when withdrawing funds from my account but over the summer fees were introduced and this has been devastating. Fees seem to run from about 5-10% depending on which option you choose. So essentially it’s a been a fat pay cut for teachers…In the past I would send former students of mine from China to Preply when they wanted to continue their lessons after I left China, and I didn’t mind giving Preply a percentage because of the convenience. But now with the added fees to withdrawal, it’s not worth it for me…So I will continue to teach my students on Preply, but when I have a former student contact me to resume classes I won’t send them to Preply. I will arrange the classes on my own, because the fees are too high…You would think there’s a way Preply could help out the teachers a little more. Maybe a direct deposit to our bank to avoid the fees? Something…I hope they can find a way to resolve this. Otherwise they’re losing potential students because I will no longer send students I have taught in person to Preply.

Customer support is non existent. I love this app for a lot of reasons that others have mentioned and overall I’m very grateful to have found it. I love my tutor and only wish I would have found her years ago. My main problem however is that when you have a problem with the app, there is no live customer support of any form (or that I have found anyway). You can’t even message a customer support line. The message is an AI bot that auto populates answers, which is fine unless you have a situation that is different than the ones listed. The main issues I’ve had have been related to my subscription so I’m considering canceling and just scheduling individual lessons. It’s less convenient but it’s cheaper (eg if you aren’t able to use a lesson by the time your subscription renews, you lose the credit). Most recently, I cancelled a lesson and the lesson wasn’t credited to my balance, even though it’s part of my subscription. Maybe there is something I need to differently but I wouldn’t know because there is no one to talk to.

Great tutor! App is so-so…. The tutor I chose for Spanish is great! I like that I can jump on my phone and use the app for a lesson if I need to (mom of 2 young ones - life can get zany). However, the app has already had a few glitches and I’ve been using it for less than a week. The first issue is that I subscribed for 4 lessons a week, booked them, and then received an email and an app notification that one lesson next week was no longer available. I tried to use the app to reschedule and got an error message. I tried to call Preply and was only able to message them. After waiting 20 mins I got no chat response. I emailed them and am still dealing with the issue via email. This is kind of annoying as I don’t want to devote my time to scheduling errors - I’d rather devote that to my language lessons… Another unfortunate thing is that I have 4 lessons each week and can’t sync them with my google calendar (as customer support told me) because I didn’t sync with Preply first (how is one to do this, no add’l info given) so now I have to manually add each lesson to my calendar. Not the end of the world, but should be possible in 2023 ;) Bottom line: I like my tutor, but jury is still out on the platform.

LOOK what you’ve made me do. Okay. Back to one star because it has just hidden my profile again for a fourth time.. LOL, SURE! not a problem. I'm a language teacher from preply, which gave me plenty of opportunities to find students and earn decently. BUT that was what I thought until today. My profile was hidden due to certain reasons, of which I had no idea. However, with my profile hidden, new studnets won't be able to find me on the platform anymore, so I wrote to the support team to ask them what happened. A representative told me I was reported absent from more than one lesson, which had already happened to me twice. Now the third time, and we all know it was nonsense. After he told me he had to check with their tutor success team or something, he used bold letters and exclamation point to tell me that they work from MONDAY to FRIDAY(in bold) and Thanks for my patience! No! What if I am not patient? This is the third time it happened to me! So unreasonable and unfair! Now you told me to be patient? You could say I am a bit too sensitive but I actually felt bad when facing a representative harboring such a POLITE and WARM attitude! Other staff are helpful and friendly, and I do appreciate their help. I'd give five stars to them but none to this guy.

Needs Better Support and Clarity in Payments. I’ve had three lessons with the same Preply tutor, and the experience has been good. However, the tutor only works three days a week, and I was hoping for daily lessons, so I tried a second tutor and booked a trial. I received a message claiming the tutor couldn’t help me, and later her profile showed she wasn’t available to me, which was confusing since she previously had many time slots. An emergency or capacity issue may explain it, but I’m not sure. Customer support is hard to reach, and the app doesn’t clearly show payments or remaining balance. I was charged for the second tutor, then canceled, with a prompt to transfer funds to another tutor, but I can’t see my balance. The app also lacks clear guidance on how the program works, navigation, troubleshooting, or how to contact an agent. I hope these issues are addressed. With improved support and transparency, Preply could be a great app with tutors that fit different budgets, schedules, and learning styles.

Expiration date on credits to take your money!. I paid $106 for hours. The first teacher didn’t do a great job so after a few sessions I switched to a different teacher. The second teacher’s availability barely existed and then he became inactive. I then became penalized for my new teacher becoming inactive because now they gave me a timeline as to how fast I needed to start a new lesson with another teacher before my credits (money spent for hours) expired. I don’t feel like they should be able to simply take your money because you have to reschedule in their window of time. If I paid for credits, why are they expiring in the first place? It just seems like a way to take advantage of people and their money. The credits should remain until they are used, otherwise they shouldn’t let you buy them in advance and in bulk. Just seems scammy.

Needs much work. The app is mostly useless for teachers bc it lacks the following features: - editing your schedule (currently you can only schedule lessons for some students but you cannot schedule time off) - seeing your earnings and earning history - cashing out - seeing how much each student pays - editing prices for individual students - editing your profile, your pricing or anything else really. - filtering messages For me, it is crucial to be able to add time off to my calendar in the app bc students can book lessons however and whenever they like without the teacher’s approval as long as that time is “free” in the schedule. I need to be able to add time off to my schedule on the go so that students don’t add a lesson when my schedule changes randomly during the day. Otherwise, I risk upsetting the student or being punished by preply for canceling a lesson. Sorry to the devs for the harsh rating but i need you to understand how important it is for the app to allow teachers to edit their schedule more freely on the go. Next to the messaging function that is the most important function to me. It is also important for me to see who pays how much bc i can prioritize my time accordingly. Message filtering would also help (filter by pricing and unread messages) My students have complained about not being able to take their proficiency exams on the app too.

Dishonest business practices. I have been taking lessons on Preply since 2020 and have seen a gradual deterioration. First, the lessons were shortened from one hour to 50 minutes while the price remained the same. As the site grew, the vetting process got substandard, resulting in fewer and fewer qualified teachers. Recently, I had a teacher who was smoking during the lesson. Another one was drunk or stoned and kept falling asleep. I discovered that they don’t pay anything to their tutors for the trial lessons — it seems grossly unfair. The last straw that led me to cancel my account was when my teacher rescheduled a lesson overnight, to a time when I was unavailable, and I could not move it because it was less than 12 hours before the class. I canceled the lesson but still got charged, even though it wasn’t my fault at all. Also, there is no such thing as a refund on your outstanding balance if you want to cancel, according to Preply. Instead, they tell you to use your balance to find another teacher.

Perfect tutor. I recently started with Daisy as my tutor before my family, and I travel to Holland. She speaks English so comfortably that she is able to understand everything that I am saying, anticipate many of my questions, and set up for exactly what I needed to learn. She makes the lessons progress so quickly that I feel like she hasn’t even spent an hour with me, but only a few minutes. Every lesson is so well planned for me personally that it just works out beautifully. I think she will be ideal for anyone who is traveling to Holland for business or pleasure. She works well for families as well as for individuals. Absolutely an amazing tutor. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

It’s okay. I love the service that the app provides. The confusion lies with payment and scheduling. I bought 4 lessons using Apple Pay and after the lessons we finished, I didn’t get hear anything from Preply. I then proceeded to buy 8 more lessons. That payment for 8 lessons went through, but Preply automatically charged me for 4 more lessons (I’m assuming the original 4 lessons were reoccurring payments). This is what would help greatly: -When purchasing lessons for the first time, remind the buyer that it is a subscription service AND after the purchased lessons are completed, give them the option to continue with the service, change the amount of lessons or to discontinue. Do so in a timely fashion. -Stop asking while in the middle of a subscription cycle if they would want to add more lessons. This has the potential to confuse the buyer. For example, is it adding more lessons to the current cycle or is it extending the cycle after the initial is over? -Make sure the buyer understands what he/she is getting and be CLEAR about it. Explain it to the customer before they pay for it. -Customer service needs to be better. You can’t talk to a rep on the phone and the messages you send to them on chat state that it can take up to 2 HOURS to get a response back. Once again, I love the service that Preply provides. The process of payment is just needs major improvements as well as transparency. It’s not customer friendly.

Deceptive subscription policy and poor customer support. First, a warning, Preply will “expire” lessons from your subscription if you do not book them all. They will only “roll-over” 25% of any remaining lessons you have and will pocket the rest. Book all of your lessons out and push your subscription renewal date as far out as you need to. Their poorly designed web and app interface will not make this easy. I learned the hard way - they had no interest in correcting this when I sought help. Relatedly, make sure you pay close attention to cancellation times and when you can actually schedule your lessons because Preply’s website, calendar, and subscriptions are not intuitive and amateurish. When customer services does get to your issue they clearly aren’t incentivized to help you. In my experience they tried to push their issues off to the customer or the tutor in my experience.

TOTAL SCAM. BEWARE. The tutors are garbage and miss lessons and sit on their cell phones while the timers go for lessons. Preply does nothing to give your money back for missed lessons. There is no way to report tutors who turn the lesson on and then leave so they get money… This is a scam. A total predatory company trying to get money from vulnerable people just trying to get ahead and learn English like my poor mother in law.. it’s taken me so many emails to even get a response. They charged my credit card a month later WITHOUT my authorization when no lessons were purchased… I have had to report them to American Express who immediately saw the scam and sided with us and are getting my money back. I tried everything to resolve this internally and quietly. This clearly doesn’t matter to them. I’m now here to warn the public. Please be careful and use another app!!!!

App & My Instructor - Guille C.. I started using Preply a few weeks ago and have had an amazing experience. My instructor is amazing! His name is Guillermo “Guille”. He lives in Germany and speaks 4 languages. He’s very patient, professional, attentive and knowledgeable. He speaks perfect English and Spanish so he is able to provide a lot of insight to cultures, vocabulary, sarcasm, proper use of grammar and conjugations and a lot more. The lessons are fantastic because he is well prepared for his classes with a plan, and happily adjusts if I have questions about a topic. There’s optional videos, homework and documents he has to learn more on free time. I’d recommend Guille to anyone looking to learn Spanish, English, German or French. I already feel more confident in my Spanish. The Preply app is very user friendly and easy to use. Features like the messaging app, placement testing, video gallery, easy transfer of hours, and more make it appealing. I’ve used a few other platforms but Preply is the best I’ve ran across.

Deceitful and Deceptive. These people have very dishonest and deceitful business practices. First they signed me up for automatic refills without ever notifying me. After getting automatically charged I finally found a way to turn that off. Next, I signed up for additional hours and I was sent an email saying I had not completed the transaction. I went back and repurchased the additional hours and then they charged me twice! I was not able to get this fixed because you can’t call them and they don’t respond to electronic communications. Now my tutor has quit Preply but they still charge me for a weekly lesson which obviously doesn’t happen because there is no tutor. Once again they won’t accept calls and they won’t respond to my issues through their app. Now I’m going to have to go through my credit card company to fight these charges. What a hassle! Don’t use this app.

Feedback and recommendations for app development. Hi guys! I like your app because I am currently living in Los Angeles, California, and I am looking for a tutor to help me improve my level. I am use your app less monthly, but I really need some future requests for improving your app. The first necessary is - recording lessons by local storage. I use another app for recording sessions, but I understand how cool use that option include your website. The next request is - mobile app. Please add the option to find a companion who also learns English. This free option will attract additional people to your site. Who will subsequently buy lessons from the tutor.

Affordable, user-friendly, personalized tutoring — THIS IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE LANGUAGE APP. For me this has been a better experience than my university class on campus, and better than any language app or learning by platform I’ve tried. I have tried Duolingo, I’ve tried in-person classes. Nothing compares to Preply. For the amount you’re paying, the flexibility of scheduling and the control of who you learn from and how is just unlike anything I’ve found thus far. It’s as if you’re taking a personal language tutoring class but for a very affordable price. Finally I’m going to learn this language because I can afford to use the tutor a lot! THANK YOU TO PREPLY

auto-refill charge unauthorized. I have multiple language tutors on Preply. I am a software developer. I know the UI well, and i am very deliberate in Unselecting the “auto-refill” when i purchase 6 or 12 hours. Yet, the platform still auto refills me when i’m down to 1 hour remaining with that tutor. I have to then go into settings -> Payment Methods and unselect the auto-refill AGAIN to turn it off (for each tutor!). I consider that unauthorized refill to be an unauthorized transaction on my credit card and it has very much soured my experience with this app. Fix your billing please! Very Stressful to see the charge on my card when i was so intentional in unselecting the auto-refill on initial purchase!! Perfect example of a “bug” that generates recurring revenue. Fine, have your short term rev growth but watch your NPS crash hard - shame on you preply.

Preply ; Overall Review. Preply is an amazing app where I love to find a variety of tutors and different languages I can learn! It’s so amazing and fun, it helps me with my language, since I’m starting to become bilingual. One tiny problem! Whenever I go into another app while my teacher is talking to me, like safari, to look for Spanish stories (I’m allowed.), it always freezes my screen when I go back into Preply. Yes, it is amazing, but sometimes the screen freeze prevents me from seeing my tutors screen share. Overall, great app, please fix the frozen screen issue as quick as you can!

Won’t refund hours too me worth $200 AUD.. My tutor stopped teaching but told me they would return at the start of 2022. I held my hours to go with my teacher when they returned, but when it got to 2022 my teacher decided they will not be teaching anymore. I decided to stop taking lessons all together. Preply refused to give me a refund because i had my hours unused for 90 days.

Scheme - waste of money. I was asked to pay in advance and “subscribe” to my tutor, paid for 4 lessons, the minimum possible, my tutor was amazing on the trial class, that’s why I decided to go with her, then it was pretty bad and kept changing the time or last minute will ask me to cancel, then I cancel the “subscription” and asked for my money back, but can happen because I didn’t use it in the specific period of time, even though it was the tutor who kept changing the time. If I wanted to cancel or reschedule I couldn’t do it without 12h notice minimum, how’s it good a for a customer, seem like anything is made to get the customers money without any consideration whatsoever.

Terrible customer service. The app charged me TWICE for the amount of classes I bought. I have tried getting in touch with them by message, from their app, by email, I have tried everything! I had no response! I just want my money back ... why give a customer answer is so difficult?

This not an English teaching app!!!. I tried a few times with different “tutors” and it is always the same, they want to charge you between 20 AUS to 35AUS to have one hour talking about random subjects. So, basically you pay to have a conversation with a stranger without a learning plan.

Life Changing Experience I Wish I’d Done Years Ago!. Preply has been absolutely brilliant. I was paired with an amazing, intelligent bilingual tutor who made learning feel effortless and enjoyable. Within just a couple of lessons, I was already speaking basic Urdu and for the first time, I could truly connect with my friends in their native language. One moment I’ll never forget, my friend’s young daughter actually cried tears of joy when I spoke to her in Urdu after only my second lesson. Seeing her face light up was the most precious and treasured moment. It showed me the power of language to bridge hearts. The platform itself is seamless booking lessons is simple, flexible, and stress-free. I only wish I’d started this journey years ago. Highly, highly recommended!

Top marks for functionality!. Overall, this is a top app for functionality! Really like how it is set out. As far as fulfilling it’s responsibility of facilitating online learning classes, I’m also really happy. It even has a feature to see how much, expressed as a percentage %, you or the teacher has been talking. So you get a better idea if you’re tutor is talking too much or if you’re not listening enough. Cool feature that takes out the guesswork and gives you a “target” to aim for. Overall, I highly recommend the application AND the service!

Overall, Good.. Preply is a great platform that brings tutors and language learners together, mediating that awkward situation of meeting someone online. They provide good support when asked and regular reminders and updates on your progress. They could improve their streaming technology. Video streaming can be difficult within the site and while the digital blackboard/notebook in the digital classroom is useful it is often laggy for me. These are not fatal issues, but could be areas for improvement.

Unprofessional support, you will loose money. It’s been 3 day since I have started the conversation with the Preply support. On the second day after several simple maths lessons I’ve been told that Preply takes 5% from each of your subscriptions. The original question was why do you charge me 174AUD if the cost of a 1 hour lesson with my tutor is 41 AUD (41*4=164). Here are answers which I got from them: this is an exchange rate, this is a banking commission. Heaps of people will be in chat with you, basically a new one every hour or so. And still, I can’t pay for another 4 hours with my tutor because the Preply platform doesn’t allow me, for unknown reason. 31 minutes ago I asked their support what exact amount of money should be on my banking account to allow them MANUALLY subscribe me for just 4 hours with the tutor, with whom I am keen to continue my work.

New to preply for a week. Used their website and it was about slow in updating messages and responses but sufficient. But this app is so much easier. I legit don’t have to keep logging in the website on my computer or phone.

An amazing app but it needs Favourite Stars. I really like the app and everything else but it really needs a function on how you could favourite specific futures and save them in a kind of favourite list that makes it easier to find them again specifically if you learn more than 1 language on the app this would make researching the specific tutor not necessary.

Avoid at all costs - No moral compass. I had several lessons on Preply which were fine. However the company keeps charging you on an ongoing subscription basis. I requested refunds and cancellation in the chat but they refused. They have now charged me for 72 hours of lessons. I assumed it was cancelled however they have kept charging me for the last 3 months despite me not having used the service once in this time and me trying unsucesfulky to cancel in the account section. Any reasonable company that cares about its customers and reputation would see this and process a refund however they seem to be more interested in taking money from people than their reputation and their customers. A very selfish company bordering on theft, unethical and unmoral. Avoid at all costs!!!

Gifted Teacher. Genesis is a very gifted and engaging teacher. I have tried other tutors and their lessons can drag and feel like real work. With Genesis the lesson flys, before you know it your 50 minutes is up. Her teaching style is extremely unique and innovative. I never leave her lessons feeling drained or tired. The information and knowledge she imparts is very relevant and it sticks. I learn a lot with her.

Ruchi is an amazing teacher so patient and clear. It’s been a few lessons and we are loving Ruchi’s classes my son says she is a great teacher 👍🏼✨👍🏼✨🏆

Total scam. Seems great at first cheaper language lessons. Until your life changes turns out the teacher can cancel on you at the start time of the lesson but if you don’t reschedule with 4 hours (think it’s 12 now) you get charged but no issues for them. Brought the larger packs but if you use most of it but then change you mind because your teacher was “in trouble and needed 3k euro” from his new friend in Australia like some African price turns out the 30 days you had which is 4 weeks if you do a lesson a week is out side the refund period so said I wanted to take a break went back in recently all my lessons are gone messages support for the 5th time no resolution sometimes not even a response. Save your time and money don’t do it.

Terrible app, worse company. The tutors intro themselves in language you are trying to LEARN, definitions words provided in app you are to LEARN are in that language, so are worthless… gotta go translate it elsewhere. Payment gateway messed up, and support people are AWFUL! They pay zero attention to what you say, and when pinned down… just stop responding. They take 33% from tutors as well. Nothing positive to say about my experience with app or company. Liked my tutor, but Preply…. No way. Will seek elsewhere.

Use to be better. Preply has introduced a new subscription style feature where instead of booking lessons you have to make a subscription. This has caused me hassles with rescheduling and changing times. I am not a fan of this feature at all and the only reason why I’m still using Preply is because of their great teachers that use the app.

Loving learning Italian. Italian is a complex and challenging language to learn, Alice makes our Italian lessons a lot of fun, we try and fit a couple of lessons each week. She tailors the class to our needs for what we would like to communicate. She has picked up on our grammar and accelerated the classes appropriately for us. We look forward to our lessons and our Italian is improving slowly and confidently.

Really good classes. Ayumi's classes are the best, she’s very patient and friendly which makes the whole experience easier to learn and quiet entertaining 😌

Learning made easier. My tutor, Nuno, is very patient and is interested in making my lessons relative to my level and needs. He is always looking for ways to help me make the most of each lesson.

The app does not update changes. I love this app and as a teacher it is crucial to be informed of any changes. Sadly the app does not automatically update when I open it. To be sure that get the latest timetable/information I have to turn my phone off and on again. I hope this issue can be resolved. Thank you 🙏

Enjoying learning Japanese with a dedicated tutor, Hiroko-san. I started in February and can really see good progress. Having the weekly lesson encourages me to keep up with my practice and reviews.

Fraudulent transaction Misleading AUD currency. This company is misleading they offer full refund for transaction then do not apply transaction fee and currencies variance the team members do not make you aware of this transaction until its to late leaving the whole transaction amount misleading and short payment amount. I would never be recommending Preply the customer service is terrible they also do not want to help resolve the problem with the substantial amount of money you have lost.

Impossible to schedule lessons. The tutor side of the app is fine, it does the job. The scheduling capabilities though are awful. They force you to subscribe and then there’s no way to future date any changes. Know that you have to change the time of your regular lesson slot in three weeks? Well then if you don’t want to change all your lessons you have to wait until they’ve passed and then change it, and hope in the meantime no one has taken the slot you want. Also if your tutor can’t make a lesson after your renewal date, you can only reschedule after the renewal has processed which could be just a few days before the lesson. It’s all such a headache.

Best way to learn language but have frequent issues with platform. It is one of the best methods to learn a language as i think duolingo will teach you bad habits and never goes deeper to explain meanings behind words. But ive often had problems with the platform and even had to use a zoom call once because preply wasnt giving any audio through. And ive also found just trying to renew my subscription to be a very big hassle. Still its nice to find whatever kind of teacher you want and see if they work for you or not.

Love the interface. Hello there admin, can I suggest that you can add aud in the currency part of your app, please. I like how the teachers are very professional at an affordable price. This includes the package bundles, if the support team can do AUD for that too.

Good platform. Great platform to find teachers and learn new language. Would be better if had an option to add the scheduled classes to the mobile phone’s calendar to avoid conflicts with other appointments.

Mrs F. I had my first lesson Todd at and I was very impressed with how the app is so easy and convenient to use especially for busy people who work and have children. I love how flexible it is with lesson times and the affordability. I was also really impressed with my tutor Silvana, she was very knowledgable and explained things clearly, I’ve actually learnt more than I expected just after my first lesson and I’m so excited to continue!

Another Political Platform. The app was great until my lessons with my coach were canceled, her account was frozen and I was completely cut off from achieving my own personal goals because my goals were subordinated to the political whims of the organisation. Preply has completely destroyed the efforts of every single Russian based coach it once employed because they feel that by attacking both the coaches and customers of those coaches that’s it’s somehow going to help the people of Ukraine. Hmmm…So launching a personal and social attack on your very own customer base will somehow ameliorate the strife of those under the physical attack of the Russian military? As if the population of Russia will rise up and…and what? Go to prison for speaking out against the government. Really?! At least we now know that this business exists not to empower and connect people but rather to exploit them and pass judgement on them until such time as it ceases to be the popular thing to do.

Lesson was amazing. My 6 year old had her first lesson with Sahar last night, it was nothing short of amazing. It was fun, insightful and so detailed. Sahar had a lovely manner and was very knowledgeable.

No help. I have been taking English lessons for few months with tutor Gazy P. from Australia. I requested our materials to be uploaded online so I can review our lessons and she blocked me. I got in contact with Customer Service and they couldn’t give me any reasoning nor ask the tutor for my material. Really disappointed about the quality of service and lack of accountability.

Great teacher. My Teacher Daeho is really an amazing, kind and polite teacher. I am glad I chose him for my Korean classes. He is patient when needed and tries to explain the concept thoroughly. Thank you Daeho Seosaengnim

Amazing teacher. I’ve been learning Japanese from Ichi for approximately 15 sessions and the experience I had was great. I work in medical and sometimes don’t have enough time to study after work, many times that Ichi adjusted her teaching pace for me without me needing to ask. Highly recommended.

Fabulous Teacher!. What a fantastic platform to learn a new language, and my Teacher for learning Levantine Arabic is fabulous! She is so committed to helping me and really pushes me so I don't give up. The level of her teaching is extremely high and I am so grateful I found her. I really could not ask for better and am very excited to be able to speak fluently one day soon. If you choose Rima stick with the classes, practice and do as many as you can weekly, she is amazing!

Appalling way to treat tutors and students. Their recent way to handle tutors and students who are trying to learn a language has been nothing short of horrible, racist behavior. I totally condemn actions that can ruin the livelihood of tutors and halt the learning of students. Please revert your recent discriminatory actions against tutors. Banners and posts in support were fine, but going against individuals is not ok.

Best lessons. Varinder explains so well that it makes easy for student to understand. He is easy going no matter how much silly mistakes you do. He keeps motivating us to practice more and we believe practice is the key to learn. Varinder exceeds your expectations. He likes to make sure you learn the proper pronunciation and correct way of identifying things. No matter how many times you ask him the same questions, he does not get upset. This tutor is highly recommended.

It’s so easy to learn!. I’ve been using Preply to learn Auslan sign language and I couldn’t be happier. It’s easy to use, connect with teachers and learn at your own pace. Plus, support is there if you have any issues. Recommended!

The missing link. Preply is truly the missing link in learning a new language. I am learning Spanish and having used Pimsleur, Babel, and Duolingo, I can say that nothing beats Preply for forcing a learner to bring it all together and actually speak. Well, worth the money and time! In addition, the platform is very easy to use and supports learning objectives very well.

Schedule managing. if you do one class a week, you will be fine. Enrolling means you might lose your money if after payment, there isn’t time suiting your schedule. There is no plus value on getting 1-2-3-5 classes a week price wise. 60 days would be better and safer.

Disappointed. They tell sorry for everything but there won’t be any solution. They say it’s the agreement. Even for the trial they charged. My instructor looked sleepy and always saying no electricity

The best language learning!. I have been learning on Preply for a year now and having come off other language platforms, I must that Preply is the most intuitive and wonderful platform to use! My tutor is phenomenal and I have already progressed so much in my French learning.

How is this better than Duolingo?. You said this was better in your ad than Duolingo yet it’s only tutors not self options! Some people don’t want a tutor like that also the tutors aren’t free Duolingo has way more free options! Your advertisement is a bit misleading if I could I’d give it maybe half a star preferably no stars! 😡😡

Expensive, inflexible. Great to connect and speak with a human, so much better than that Duolingo waste of time! But, I did not like the package I was forced into. I wanted 12 lessons, but they make you take them in one month, which is just too short a period and super hard to actually dedicate time between 3 lessons a week to make progress. I just ended up frustrated and it was an exorbitantly expensive lesson to learn. The instructor was great, no issues there, just don’t like their pressure sales tactics.

2 months of subscription. Really enjoying my lessons in Spanish. A friend referred me to this app and Rodrigo. My Spanish has improved significantly and I’m enjoying the lessons. The app is simple to use and works well. I’ve had a few sessions that had connectivity issues at the beginning but since then no issues!

Too many notifications. Hey there! I love being checked in on and reminded about lessons but receiving several notifications about a lesson that I scheduled, marked in my own calendar and confirmed, it seems like a bit much… My email gets notifications the app reminds me several times and the worst part is I have no option to limit this. It’s simply automatic and irreversible! I don’t want to have to turn off all notifications but it seems like the only logical choice but then I’m still stuck receiving emails that I do not want. Please give us some options to completely unsubscribe from all email options and to stop push notification like the ones I previously described.

Your lessons expire …. I was having 7 lessons left something like that and they are not there anymore because it look like they have expired..

Excellent flatform for language learning. Preply shows great respect to every student and tutor on the platform. Whenever I encounter a problem I can't solve, the support team always responds promptly and patiently guides me through each step, resolving the issue quickly. I'm very glad to have joined Preply. Good Concept, Bad Customer Experience. I strongly disagree with Preply’s policy of resetting unused lessons. This is not about discipline — it feels like taking away a paid service. Instead of allowing lessons to accumulate, the platform simply removes what I have already purchased. The idea of the application is great, but some important aspects are poorly designed. Because of this policy, I will not be using this platform in the future and cannot recommend it to others.

No substitute for talking. I literally had a 1500 day streak on Duolingo and couldn’t speak French. I’ve been seeing my tutor here once a week for a year and it’s been a game changer.

no chance to report issue with overcharging. Despite being overcharged for four months, I'm stuck because customer service is unreachable. Stop charging people if they didn’t take classes!

Poor Support and Ongoing Billing Problems. There is a trial lesson available, but the teacher may decline working with you, explaining that they lack the necessary experience. The payment for the trial lesson will still be charged, and to get a refund or reschedule a trial with a new teacher, you’ll need to contact customer support. Since your credit card is linked to the platform, charges will continue to be made. Reaching out to customer support multiple times won’t necessarily help. In my case, over the course of two months, $368 was withdrawn even though I didn’t attend a single lesson.

Find it a theft. Do not trust their policies! If you are taking any membership with them, make sure asking them about the refund in advance, this is most likely going to happen as you may not find a right match! So beware of this!

Complete waste of time. I tried two tutors, both were unreliable, either late or no shows. When they did show up they were unprepared. In my opinion these are not qualified teachers of any sort, just some random people trying to make a quick buck. And once you’ve paid for lessons you will not get a refund for bad service. It was a very costly experience for me with no benefits. I learned nothing…

Fake. I decided to check “ native English speakers “ from Canada , USA etc. I checked over 50 profiles and let me tell you , about 50-60% are not truthful . The tutors have thick accents , some make mistakes in grammar and some can not pronounce words properly. Native speakers MUST be the ones that were born and grew up in the English speaking country , not some Polish or Cameroon or Bangladesh high school English teachers . Seems as platform allows ANYBODY claim ANYTHING in terms of their place of origin and skills . Why would an American or Canadian teacher charge $5 per lesson ? The minimum wage is way more than that . But even more outrageous is that some , say Russians or Chinese , claim that they would improve students’ accents . These “ tutors” can not even provide such service in any possible way as they have thick accents themselves . Fake . Stay away

A good way to learn…. Rebecca is good to learn with..she figures out what I’m trying to day, guides me and shows me the words in type. She is a pleasure to work with. I’m looking forward to learning..for once in my life:)

Avoid at all costs — Preply charged me without consent!. I strongly advise anyone not to use Preply. This platform charged me for a subscription I never activated, and when I asked for a refund, they only returned part of the money — blaming it on “processing fees” and “currency conversion.” Let me be clear: I never agreed to any recurring payments. What they did feels like unauthorized withdrawal — if not outright theft. Their customer service was slow, unhelpful, and dismissive. They refused to return the full amount, even though I’ve been a loyal user for a long time. If you care about your money and your peace of mind, stay away from Preply. There are many better platforms out there that are transparent, fair, and don’t take advantage of their users.

2 great teachers. I love languages. But it’s really because I’m interesting in people, not becuase I love the gamified approach of so many apps (though they can be helpful adjuncts to learning). Preply connected me with 2 proficient teachers in Arabic and Italian who are teaching me at at half the cost that Lingoda did without all the subscription pressure. I suspect Preply teachers also have more feeedom and don’t have to give half their earnings over the platform. But in any case I would be happy to give them a raise after 90 days. I hope that’s available option. Great service..

Great app, bad support and policies. The Good: This app has been life changing for me in a good way until support had to ruin it. I love the idea of being able to meet people from other countries, learn their language and culture. You have a huge selection of mentors, teachers to select from. The Bad: Buckle up. - First things first: The support pages are extremely hidden. It’s very hard to get support on this app. No phone number to get in touch with customer service just messaging. - The most important problem: Policies have bad practices which lead to basically stealing from the customer. If you schedule by subscription let’s say 2 classes a week with a teacher for a month and for some reason it becomes hard for you to schedule all of the classes. Those remaining credits are considered USED even if you haven’t used them. So if you wanted to ask for a refund on the remaining credits they will say no and force you take classes with another teacher FIRST and then you have to move the credits over to them to continue taking classes. So you basically have to pay to move classes unless they have a free intro class just to get to know the teacher and share your goals and see if you match with them. - Second issue: when asking for help the first time they actually refunded the credits BUT CANCELLED THE SUBSCRIPTION WITH THE TEACHER. Now I can’t reschedule with my teacher even thought I never asked to cancel the sub just refund the available credits that were not able to be used on that month 🤣🤣🤣. - Third issue: in the last month the app has not been working properly. Things like going into a class and not getting any audio. The app not opening on the phone. The app not letting me logging. The troubleshooting literally hasn’t solved anything it just EVENTUALLY worked out. I had to use other platforms like Google meets or zoom to be able to take my classes.

A Bad Start. My first tutor changed the time of two scheduled sessions and Preply doesn’t give an option for the student to review the new time and accept the adjustment. The sessions were changed to a time that I could not meet, and both new times were scheduled within 4 hours of the new lesson time, so I wasn’t able to cancel them without being charged for the session. Seems like the tutor may have figured out a way to scam the system/student. I was able to report the first one because the tutor didn’t show up and avoided losing credit/payment. I’ve requested a refund via the bot chat for the second one. I loaded up about $50 to my account for lessons and I am not trying to figure out how to get it all credited back. Great concept. Poor execution.

Feedback and recommendations for app development. Hi guys! I like your app because I am currently living in Los Angeles, California, and I am looking for a tutor to help me improve my level. I am use your app less monthly, but I really need some future requests for improving your app. The first necessary is - recording lessons by local storage. I use another app for recording sessions, but I understand how cool use that option include your website. The next request is - mobile app. Please add the option to find a companion who also learns English. This free option will attract additional people to your site. Who will subsequently buy lessons from the tutor.

Teacher with 800 hours experience over 280 students with good ratings. I had a student purchase several lessons with me. The lessons stayed there for over a year when I tried to collect the payment preply generated a false email which is actually fraudulent saying that my student had canceled the lessons within over 12 hours ago, but that was impossible since I had only scheduled the lessons within that very hour. Not only are they greedy and they take basically 100% of your first lesson and then they take 30% of all your lessons after that they don’t let you cancel their lessons they will reprimand you unfairly. I’m sure there are great teachers on Preply because I was one of them but their customer service is deplorable. Especially supervisor Ali.

Best language app & tutor situation I've found. Amazing. Finally! The only bad thing about getting off Instagram for so long is that I missed the ads for this app. If I had found this app a year ago I'd be fully fluent now. The amount I've progressed in just the last month is like combining my progress of the last 2 years into a single month. I'm excited. I wake up having dreamt in Spanish and I can read and understand and fumble out sentences and even jokes that make my husband and our friends laugh sometimes. Finally! I can't wait to see what another month or 3 or 6 will bring.

Expiration date on credits to take your money!. I paid $106 for hours. The first teacher didn’t do a great job so after a few sessions I switched to a different teacher. The second teacher’s availability barely existed and then he became inactive. I then became penalized for my new teacher becoming inactive because now they gave me a timeline as to how fast I needed to start a new lesson with another teacher before my credits (money spent for hours) expired. I don’t feel like they should be able to simply take your money because you have to reschedule in their window of time. If I paid for credits, why are they expiring in the first place? It just seems like a way to take advantage of people and their money. The credits should remain until they are used, otherwise they shouldn’t let you buy them in advance and in bulk. Just seems scammy.

Loving it. I’ve been using this app/service for a few months now and I’m finally able to have small conversations in Japanese, while understanding how to form my own sentences and translate phrases. My teacher is wonderful and the app is very easy to navigate. You are able to find the right tutor for you, going through as many as you’d like and always pick a time to schedule your next lesson far ahead of time. Thankful for this method of language learning with native speakers and the encouragement from this app to continue on learning.

Bad customer support- Billing issues. I will say that I took subscription 2 classes per week for past 5 months. The platform is good but they discontinue teachers sometimes and then force you to transfer subscription to other teacher and not reimburse money. Other issue is they renew the subscription without properly scheduling classes which means again you lose money. In my case paid for 8 classes for month, was scheduled only 4. When I reached customer support they could not resolve as they cant understand have no ability to reimburse. So all in all lost 40$ because of inefficiency of platform. Now I hate customer support by chat and will never use chat support from any company. I put this on dispute and will now resolve through credit card company

Rating of App Policy - Not the Tutors. The tutors on Preply are amazing. This review is based on their terrible refund policy. I had to pause my subscription due to scheduling issues and had accrued unused lessons due to my tutor cancelling on me. You better remember the fine print and set a reminder to ask for a refund before 28 days. If life happens and you’re sidetracked by something like a parent’s illness and only remember to ask for a refund after the 28 days…you’re out of luck and won’t get your money back for services never rendered or used. Department stores have bigger refund windows. Shame on you, Preply. ADDED UPDATE - got the same copy and paste answer to this post, which shows they do not really read these comments. Stay away from this app unless you don’t mind bad refund policies and auto renewal set ups that just look to take your money.

Do not use this app, there are far superior that do the same thing but are a thousand times better. I have had only terrible experiences with Preply, with repeated cancellations from teachers and a lack of transparency when it comes to getting a refund. However my recent experience was an unsafe and unprofessional situation with a teacher, and I emailed Preply support about it twice and never heard back. To have customer service issues and misleading payment options is one thing, but to totally ignore a situation where their users are in jeopardy is completely another. Just know using this app it’s very likely you can sign up for a teacher who is probably not vetted and not who they initially paint themselves to be with the introductory videos.

Amazing. He is patient, funny, and knowledgeable about English language. He teaches me topics that interest me. I am a “hands on” learner. I don’t do well with just giving me worksheets to follow. I have learned more from him in 2 classes than in the 2 months with a different tutor. I highly recommend if you are wanting conversational Spanish lessons without all the grammar lessons. You will automatically pick that up during class so it’s not like being in 3rd grade again. I am so excited about my classes now.

The best learning app!. I have been studying Spanish with tutors here for over a month now and I could say it has been incredible so far. The lessons are affordable, subscription is easy, and schedules are aplenty. You can also easily cancel and reschedule provided the class is within the allowed cancelation/rescheduling period. The lessons with the teachers are also very easy to follow and the set up is very nice as well, everything is in one place. Very organized and systematic. Try learning here!

Payment issues. I like that there are plenty of teachers on the app. That’s about it. I don’t care for the subscription. My work schedule changes and there’s no telling how many classes I can take per month. And when I subscribe to the least amount of classes, when ever I try to add more lessons, there’s always a payment issue. Then Customer support is no help. There solution to everything is for me to use a desktop or laptop. I don’t have either of those. And when I tell them that, I don’t hear anything back from them. Update: I’ve talked to customer support. I e been pasted off to 4 different people now and all of them have told me the same thing. They they say “they’re looking into it”. Then I get past off to someone else.

Learning mandarin. 我學了普通話兩月現在。I have been learning mandarin for two months now with Preply. I tried a couple tutors until I found the right one for me. Some tutors are ridiculously expensive but you can filter them by price, nationality, languages of course, and many other things. I have learned a lot, but it’s all down to finding the right tutor which Preply makes easy. I have felt pressure to not cancel or transfer credits with tutors to not inconvenience them or make me feel bad, I do wish they weren’t able to tell how many lessons I have left with them so I wouldn’t feel the pressure.

TOTAL SCAM. BEWARE. The tutors are garbage and miss lessons and sit on their cell phones while the timers go for lessons. Preply does nothing to give your money back for missed lessons. There is no way to report tutors who turn the lesson on and then leave so they get money… This is a scam. A total predatory company trying to get money from vulnerable people just trying to get ahead and learn English like my poor mother in law.. it’s taken me so many emails to even get a response. They charged my credit card a month later WITHOUT my authorization when no lessons were purchased… I have had to report them to American Express who immediately saw the scam and sided with us and are getting my money back. I tried everything to resolve this internally and quietly. This clearly doesn’t matter to them. I’m now here to warn the public. Please be careful and use another app!!!!

Great tutors, questions app functionality. I love my tutor and the idea of connecting with a live person for 1:1 sessions. However, the app itself and the way it incorporates practice could use some work. I am beginning to learn Spanish so my reading ability is little to nothing. However, in the “classroom” feature, you can add vocabulary words to practice, which in theory is an excellent tool, however all of the definitions are in Spanish. How on Earth is this helpful to a new learner? I cannot practice these words because I cannot read the definition….This seems like an awfully shortsighted mistake on their part.

Finally found what I wanted!. I’ve had a lot of fun learning Korean! I like that it is flexible and you can plan lessons whenever you want. It’s also nice that you can reschedule. You just have to make sure you do it 12hours in advance which I can forget sometimes. But my teacher is amazing and super understanding! She makes it fun and I’m sure it’s a combination of that and the ease of the app. The interface isn’t hard to understand and there are many language options ☺️ my teacher is always saying how I should teach English on here and she will help me. One day I will write a review from the teacher perspective haha.

Organized - Fun. My daughter speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese. She has always wanted to learn French and now she is in a French/English program for middle school. With C-19 closing schools we wanted her French to progress. We selected 3 different tutors including Fred to see which one would help her the most. I observed a huge lesson and then asked my daughter whom she thought would help her improve her French. She said Fred because he is very organized, makes the lesson applicable to daily life and used videos for fun. We are now working with Fred 2x a week for the next 12 weeks. I will provide updated reviews as we progress.

Almost perfect. This app is great. It definitely helps keep me organized with students. However, it is extremely frustrating that I cannot schedule “time off” from the app, and have to always log into a computer to block off any time. I know I can’t be the only person who has events come up last minute, and it causes issues when I can’t block off time from the app and often have to wait the 8 hours until the end of the work day to block off that time. More than once I’ve had to cancel lessons the same day a student scheduled it because I can’t block off that time in the app. This app would be perfect to use if I could schedule time off using it.

Love my tutor unhappy with the money hungry company. I hate that this language learning app doesn’t let you take off certain days of a month because you’re on vacation so you can’t make it. So I just end up having to use multiple and one week was just stressful and too much. In addition, my credit card declined for the subscription of the next month and the software literally did not let me log into my already paid lesson scheduled to take because I needed to update my payment. There’s no consideration for paying customers and it’s clearly just trying to siphon as much money out as possible. Plus, if a person paying for a lesson needs to cancel, it doesn’t pay the tutor a single cent for also getting canceled on.

App is very limited and low pay rate. I’m a tutor on preply. The app is good but really limited. It delivers silent notifications no matter if you have notifications on on your phone. So, the chance of you missing messages or potential students is very very high. Also the base rate is very low. I don’t think anyone should be given the option to set their base rate to anything below $5. That should be a good start, for every tutor because of all the work we put. Preply sometimes suggests setting your base rate as low as $2 and it’s not fair to tutors. Most will accept this just so they can get students but it’s not willingly.

Sht happens & we should be able to pause for it. There is a pause max of 20 days and a pause limit of 1 time in a row. No consecutive pauses. This is so inconvenient, life happens and we should be able to pause for the time we need. I paused one time because things kept coming up for either me or my teacher, then my teacher took the month of December off of work so I again couldn’t use the classes that were already backlogged. Now I cannot pause a second time when I really need to because I have so many classes in the bank. This is ridiculously inconvenient and I feel like I’m being forced to pay for a service that I cannot use at such a high frequency.

auto-refill charge unauthorized. I have multiple language tutors on Preply. I am a software developer. I know the UI well, and i am very deliberate in Unselecting the “auto-refill” when i purchase 6 or 12 hours. Yet, the platform still auto refills me when i’m down to 1 hour remaining with that tutor. I have to then go into settings -> Payment Methods and unselect the auto-refill AGAIN to turn it off (for each tutor!). I consider that unauthorized refill to be an unauthorized transaction on my credit card and it has very much soured my experience with this app. Fix your billing please! Very Stressful to see the charge on my card when i was so intentional in unselecting the auto-refill on initial purchase!! Perfect example of a “bug” that generates recurring revenue. Fine, have your short term rev growth but watch your NPS crash hard - shame on you preply.

Good tutors, bad subscription plans. I found a great teacher, and I know other users who were likewise very happy with their language tutors. Tutors at various cost levels can be found, and the user can schedule a free introductory hour with each tutor, to be able to chose the right one(s) for ongoing sessions. A lot of languages are represented, including for example Hungarian. The downfall of the Preply service, for me, was the subscription model: the user must sign up for a specific number of lessons per week, and is charged for that number. I finally closed my account. Better, in my view, would be the freedom to schedule sessions as convenient, with no obligation to have a specific minimum number per week. The user support system is quite frustrating, but ultimately it is possible to resolve problems by chatting with a human. Initial access to support is via correspondence with a useless “bot”. The lessons are held through a zoom-like Preply video feature, which naturally is subject to wifi problems, but is generally adequate. These can be accessed through mobile app or through a website.

I took lessons with them for a few months and I spent more time searching for teachers than learning. All I remember from this app is credits getting expired (money lost without taking lessons), searching for teachers every now and then because teachers there just sit there and expect the student to start speaking out of nowhere. Reimbursing trial lessons that went bad ? Not all the time even though they claim they do it. There are better ways to learn languages and this app is not it. I just give three stars cause I was able to find a few good teachers that actually had to leave the platform due to lots of changes.

Be careful with guidelines for classes. I didn’t know I entered a subscription when I first bought classes through Preply and when I was going through the process of taking sessions, they charge my card for the following month, even though I didn’t know they were going to do that. I found out later that that was part of the procedure, my tutor for that month changed her availability she went on vacation and then she decided not to do classes anymore and I was left with multiple classes and not enough time to schedule them. I asked for a refund but they told me it was out of the 28 day cycle without them even understanding my situation and we’re not willing to give me my refund. I will not use this app again. all they do is take your money.

App has become sketchy with subscriptions. No shade to the tutors at all, they are generally great and I’ve been seeing one for Japanese for about 7 months now with great results. The problem is with the app itself. It has made it annoying and complicated to adjust any details of a subscription or to schedule individual lessons. It’s basically designed to trick you in to auto-renewing even if there are no available slots for your tutor in the next cycle, and scheduling lessons is not as simple as just purchasing a single lesson and scheduling it. It’s not an ideal system unless you have literally nothing going on in your life and are completely flexible to accommodate your tutors schedule. The old system they had was much better, I’m going to try and migrate to a different tutoring app.

Support team is awful. **Response to developer response** The support team isn’t answering! Please actually read the review I left. 🙄 It takes hours to hear back from anyone from live chat support, which is unacceptable for paying customers. I’ve been a customer for over a year, for context. The support team doesn’t answer your questions directly if their pre-written responses don’t cover it. It’s like talking to AI but worse. I even reached out to their customer support director on LinkedIn after DAYS of receiving no support via the site and still didn’t get a response. App is fine when it works. When an issue occurs with membership though, you’re on your own. I’m looking forward to the dismissive, pre-written, and unhelpful response to this review, if I get any acknowledgment at all.

Annoying Interface. This app overall is pretty good, but there are so many annoyances. They have arbitrary rules around pausing subscriptions. So if I pause my subscription to the max allowed, which is a few weeks, then my tutor gets sick then has vacation, the UI blocks me from pausing further as only one pause is allowed per billing cycle. The calendar defaults to the first available week for the tutor, not the current week, but as the view is in week view and not month view this is hard to notice. Lastly, the help center staff is always SO passive aggressive. So they’ll be great at fixing your problem but make you feel like it’s your fault for having one. I’ve had at least 4 times where this happens, because they’re probably trained to paste the same script to push liability onto the requester. Last, it would be nice if the messaging used web sockets. It’s annoying when I get a push notification that I received a message but the UI doesn’t actually refresh. This is basic messaging expectations.

Exciting time.. I really love my Korean and Chinese teachers on Preply. They are friendly and provide a lot of feedback for me to learn. Preply doesn’t work well on my Mac, but I just use my iPad. What I wish was different was the process of scheduling classes. You have to automatically pay and schedule a minimum of 4 hours. You don’t have the ability to pay for classes when you are available. My health is not always great my schedule is busy to even classes every other week for me to learn at a slow pace. Other than that I still enjoy learning.

Class canceled but they still charge. It was my first trial lesson. The tutor canceled on us. My card was still charged. I reported the issue but being sent to talk to a bot. One day later a person jump in without apology sending me a long text from their website and ask me which option I chose. Then he disappeared without solving the problem. Next they got another message from another employee asking which tutor I want to transfer money to. The problem was if I book lesson with another tutor I have to put my card for prepaying the lesson. Who want to be charged another time when your previous transaction was still a mess? Terrible services. You pay money but there is no way to talk directly with their employees when there is a problem.

Fabulous language learning experience. Learning with my tutor through Preply has made me into an increasingly intermediate Italian speaker. You can find the private tutor that fits your style and needs, watching posted tutor videos and reading profiles. My tutor and I send messages and files through the app. However, we use Zoom for meetings as the quality is better than meeting through Preply. There are lesson reminders, notifications of any cancelled or changed lessons, and indication of the amount of hours purchased and those remaining. The app is available in 4-5 languages (more please!) and I love to be able to use it (listing new words learned) in Italian.

Support is the worst. There’s a bunch of customer support who do not want to understand the issue raised and keep responding the same thing over and over again. I booked a two hour session with my tutor, on my tutor’s dashboard it showed one hour so my class was for one hour. There are clear system dashboard that clarified but no - the so called customer care says that I should fix a session outside the app by talking to my tutor. If it shows only one hour for my tutor, why should he do that. These folks have zero empathy and logic.

Disappointment after long use. I have been using Preply app for more than three years, and at first, it worked very well and was extremely helpful. However, recently there has been a serious issue with the duplication of certain time slots, which causes errors in the schedule. I have reported this problem multiple times and explained that it needs to be checked and fixed, but for several weeks, no one has responded or shown any interest in resolving it. Unfortunately, I’m disappointed to say that the quality of this application has been declining quite rapidly.

Not connecting to calendar. It would’ve been nice if my lesson could’ve connected to my calendar or used AM/PM designations. I could’ve sworn I chose a 4 pm time slot but my instructor read 4 am. I couldn’t go back to see what I’d selected but my reminder in the app only referred to 4:00. I don’t want to risk more mistakes and waste money or not get the time I booked (I had no indication that I’d not been booked for 4 pm). Also, it’s unnecessarily unclear how the session will take place. I’d expected to get some clear prompting about where to “show up” for the session, but that was left to my instructor to give me the details, so it wasn’t seamless. If this is a booking app only, that’s cool. But without the calendar connection function and any automated direction, it didn’t really make much easier.

Very difficult very disappointing. I got into the app really excited to learn and I got sick for one class and we moved the class to another time and the teacher canceled on me and it charged me and for some reason it told me “i can’t contact this tutor find another one” right after that even though I paid for subscription. I moved to another teacher and the first lesson their power went out so I only had half of the class I paid for. We moved it into another day and they didn’t appear. I made so much time and paid a lot into this to get nothing back I really wouldn’t recommend this app because the app forced you to do things a certain way that teachers didn’t understand and charged the students for anyways I don’t see myself going back to this app it was too much.

First time learning from a tutor through an online video chat!. This is one of the time where I am glad a Facebook Ad popped up Preply on my news feed! I was curious and wanted to learn more about how learning a new language with an online tutor works. I was able to find a Vietnamese tutor and I am loving every minute of my subscription! I am 3 out of 8 lessons in so far and my tutor is patient with me and going at a good pace for my learning needs. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn the basics such as tones, vowels, and pronunciations with an online-live tutor!

LOOK what you’ve made me do. Okay. Back to one star because it has just hidden my profile again for a fourth time.. LOL, SURE! not a problem. I'm a language teacher from preply, which gave me plenty of opportunities to find students and earn decently. BUT that was what I thought until today. My profile was hidden due to certain reasons, of which I had no idea. However, with my profile hidden, new studnets won't be able to find me on the platform anymore, so I wrote to the support team to ask them what happened. A representative told me I was reported absent from more than one lesson, which had already happened to me twice. Now the third time, and we all know it was nonsense. After he told me he had to check with their tutor success team or something, he used bold letters and exclamation point to tell me that they work from MONDAY to FRIDAY(in bold) and Thanks for my patience! No! What if I am not patient? This is the third time it happened to me! So unreasonable and unfair! Now you told me to be patient? You could say I am a bit too sensitive but I actually felt bad when facing a representative harboring such a POLITE and WARM attitude! Other staff are helpful and friendly, and I do appreciate their help. I'd give five stars to them but none to this guy.

What a discovery!!. Honestly, when I saw this online I thought it was just a floppy idea and a scam of an app. You can imagine my surprise to just give it a go and it turned out to be the best ever decision!!! Now that’s pretty funny! I love this app/idea! And the lessons are SO affordable. Way more affordable than lessons I’ve had in their respective countries. This also works so well for me since I travel a lot for work. It means I can keep doing my weekly lessons without fail. You need to get this if you’re looking to learn languages. It’s absolutely worth your time and the tutors are fantastic. I’m subscribed with french and Italian classes right through till the end of the year 😅😅😅 Also, another pleasant surprise - you can learn PLENTY of other subjects!! Maths, science, computer coding etc! So if you thought this was purely languages, you’re in for a surprise! Maybe Preply should promote that more! It’s a full on tutoring app rather than just languages. I love it.

Progress So Far. I am really liking that I could practice while I’m on the road. This was really convenient to practice and remind me of the words I need more help with and taught me some new words as well. I did have to reschedule my appointment and noticed that the the phone app gave me a little trouble because I could not click on the new time. I switched to my laptop, and I was able to reschedule just fine, so maybe the app gets stuck sometimes. I can’t wait for my tutoring appointment tomorrow with a live person! I’ll keep my reviews posted!

Scam. They deactivated my profile without any warning. I had 20 unused lessons worth $100, and they never refunded my money. This is the second time they have done this to me. Both times, they claimed I violated their rules, but when I asked which rule I supposedly broke, they refused to tell me and said I could not dispute their decision. The first time, I thought maybe it was my mistake, so I created a new profile. But after a few weeks, they did the exact same thing again. It’s becoming clear that this is their strategy—close accounts, keep the money, and provide no explanation. They do the same thing to tutors. They close their accounts without warning, give no reason, and take all their earnings. It’s a scam. Be careful.

Immediate feedback. If you want to learn fast, with immediate feedback on whether you’re pronouncing things correctly or sound like an idiot… this is the app for you. Also, if you’re looking for a less popular language not strongly supported by the mainstream apps (I’m learning Khmer) this is the BEST option, period. My tutor, Lica, is fantastic. She helps me pronounce, and also understand how native people speak so I can understand better. She teaches me how to think in Khmer, which is the probably the most important part of truly learning a language.

Native speaker. What an unique opportunity to work with a native speaker. My lessons are scheduled each week and the system is just amazing. The video is not crystal clear BUT the sound and picture is just fine. I can get and print my assignments thru the app and when I am on my iPad during our lesson, she can send me messages that I can read on my phone in real time. This helps if she needs to type a word or a phrase that I am not understanding orally. She does not speak one word of English (my native tongue). I was worried it might not work but after three lessons- I am sold!!! So glad I stumbled across this sight surfing the internet.

Flawed Entrance Exam (Spanish). To begin the process, one is asked to take an exam to assess the level. I took the exam and if I did not know an answer to a question, I left the question blank. The system scored the “blank” answers as “correct,” and the result was that I was rated at a higher language level than I actually am. I spent more than 3 hours in one night explaining this issue to Preply’s customer service, and have exchanged more messages with customer service since then. Some of the customer service reps that I’ve talked to understand the issue, others don’t, but all seem to think that it doesn’t matter. If it doesn’t matter, then why give the test? Having this fundamental flaw in the system makes me lose confidence in the Preply platform.

Subscription service is a scam. The tutors have all been great and if it wasn’t for the service itself I would give 5 stars. However the subscription model is a complete scam and horribly explained upon sign up. You MUST use all your hours on their given time frame or they will take your hours and money and no refund will be given. You can pause or cancel, which I did but it still wasn’t enough for them to take the hours after their chosen time frame even though they were already paid for. Also the fact that you cannot get a refund once you have paid for a block of hours and the fact you can’t just buy single hours, it’s a poorly designed concept that seems setup to take your money

Needs better features for tutors.. The Preply app is great for tutors to be able to have an up to date calendar and message students back faster. However, there are some major functionality issues that make the application inconvenient. Here are features that should be added for tutors: - Translation function: some potential students message in their native language. Being able to translate the message on the app will allow for easier communication - Schedule: When I look at my scheduled lessons I can see the student but if I click on their lesson time the only option I have is to reschedule the lesson. There should be a feature that brings me to the student profile/messages with the student. This way I can quickly message the student rather than having to look them up individually. - time delay: If I message a student on the app, it does not show through the website on my desktop that I have messaged them until at least 15 minutes after the message was sent. This is also an issue with the calendar because changes in the schedule made by students to not always reflect in the calendar on the app. So I end up having to check both to ensure the schedule is correct. Voice messages: There is no feature that allows voice messages. This would be useful because I could send students short messages as an example of how to pronounce a word properly which they could repeat and use for studying outside of our lesson time. Overall, the features need to be improved to facilitate better communication between the tutors and students. Additionally, why is it necessary to send an email every time a student looks at my profile or interacts with my profile in any way? The amount of spam emails I receive on a daily basis is ridiculous. The feature cannot be turned off in the email notification settings. So I end up receiving notifications on the app, on the website, to my mobile number and in my email. This is really overkill. Please improve these features.

Simple functionality=easy to book tutoring! Also, Be aware of Preply % Commission!. Regarding app functionality, I have not had any technical issues with the app. It has a very simple interface and has worked well so far with my video and/or audio sessions. It’s easy to search for tutors, book sessions and communicate within the app. Regarding the tutors, all of my tutors have been great but I’m sure everyone’s experience may vary slightly due to the subjectivity and personal nature of tutoring. Readers, please note that Preply takes a sizable commission from the tutors, so the price you pay is not the actual pay that they receive. Please be kind to the tutors and mindful of their time. One thing I would like to see is tipping functionality. As they don’t currently have this in place, I would recommend tipping your tutors by scheduling an extra session. Overall, I have and will continue to recommend this to others.

Great concept, App not to the level. With over 300 lessons on Preply to learn Italian over the last 4years, just passed my C1 last December, I can tell the app allows you to find the teacher of your liking at the price that fits your budget. As far as the app itself, the one on the iPhone currently doesn’t allow to book lessons. I need to use another device. The app on the laptop computer has had an update over a year ago. Definitely not better, specially when opening the chat. It covers half the screen and you see your tutor half. So the user interface would benefit of an upgrade. Microsoft TEAMS or Skype or GoToMeeting or Zoom are great examples of good user interface. The logo change not so long ago is weird. I really liked the old blue one. Why Pink? No communication whatsoever on why they did it. And last but not least, if you contact technical service, you’d better off googling the issue to try to fix it on your own. Would I recommend Preply? Yes. But I’ll let people know about the basics of the app.
