Texas Monthly Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Gotta Read It. I love and always look forward to my monthly subscription of Texas Monthly. The sharing of humorous, heartfelt and informative Texas stories is the best in this magazine. It always makes me feel proud to be a Texan. (Maybe not always the Bum Steer Awards)

The Best. The best magazine in the world!

I should have ordered the magazine by mail. The AP wants to log me off as a non subscriber even though I logged in with my subscription.

Does not work. I have a digital subscription but the app tells me I need to pay to unlock content. Kind of useless. It’s unlikely I will go to the website to read articles. I prefer to use apps for news and magazines. TX Monthly could take a note from the NYT app. It’s flawless. Hope you guys get this fixed, otherwise I may cancel my subscription.

Texas Monthly performs. Every month Texas Monthly does not disappoint its readers. Intelligent and focused articles which feeds one’s senses. Can’t wait for the next issue.

Terrible support. I have a subscription through iTunes that ends June 2019 but the app is now asking me to pay and giving me a few seconds to read articles. I wrote the app developer and was told to contact Texas Monthly. Texas Monthly told me to contact Apple. Apple told me to contact the app developer. Nobody has tried to help so I paid for a years subscription and got less than three months.

Print/Digital. Why is the digital subscription extra? This will be my first and last print subscription.

Backwards. I am a longtime fan of Texas Monthly. But this new iPad version tortures me. “Stock” and “Touts” — and screen after screen of advertising strips. What happened to the e-version that mirrored the paper version — the one I enjoyed every month?

Website front-end. The new app appears to just be a pass-through to the website. I have been a digital-only subscriber for years via the App Store, but with the new app there is seemingly no way to access my paid-for and still active subscription including paid for back issues. This new app is terrible, and should not exist in the first place if the sole purpose is to just re-display the Texas Monthly website…banner advertisements and all.

I already subscribe!. I'd like a way to read my print subscription digitally! Most other magazines offer this. Why don't you?

Texas monthly. I just cancelled my subscription because they wouldn’t let me read a full article without subscribing but I already did

Print subscribers cannot login. Ugh. What a waste. No place for print subscribers to login. Deleted the app as soon as I discovered that. And I absolutely hate the newsstand. You should be able to put an app where you choose.

Separate Digital & Print Subscriptions. So why exactly doesn't my print subscription carry over like every other publisher on iPad? You're not getting another $20 out of me. Extremely disappointed by this.

Not very nice. Thought that since I have a print subscription would have access through iPad, no way. Thanks TM for being so customer focused. Has Apple considered allowing negative ratings, as TM desires.

Ditch Maz. Maz is the worst magazine platform out there.

Texas Monthly. I paid Apple for a subscription however Texas Monthly refuses to recognize my payment. Says it is Apple’s problem. Apple says Go Fish. Very disappointing.

UGH. Every time I open my app to catch up on what’s happening in my home state it advises me that I need to subscribe to read the articles… I am subscribed. I am logged in. Why can’t I just read about Texas y’all?!

Every True Texan knows TM. Must have TEXAS Chic!

Texas Monthly. Texas Monthly is the answer to any Texan who misses their state like a starving man needs food or a person in dire need of Oxygen. Texas Monthly is indeed the oxygen to my soul!

Would be nice to access a Digital Replica of the Magazine on the app. IThe

Same complaint ~ great publication but horrible App. I purchased both the digital and actual paper subscription to Texas Monthly. As so many before me have reviewed, the app is horrible and I can’t believe Texas Monthly hasn’t figured out they need to find a different developer for their digital magazine subscriptions or do away with it in its entirety. Due to the number of reviews regarding the App I decided it was best to purchase the paper magazine as well. I have had other digital magazine subscriptions from completely different magazines without any issues at all. If you’re reading these reviews Texas Monthly, please consider getting this resolved so we can have the best of both digital and paper Texas Monthly!

Pay once for the print edition, pay again for digital. I'm a print subscriber and disappointed to learn I have no option but to pay double that cost if I want to read my magazine online. Usually the web is way more timely--but not in this case! I received my May print issue a week ago, but the online issues available end with April. Not worth downloading the app.

Constantly wanting me to login. Really want to support Texas Monthly but every time I use the app I get a login challenge. This is a magazine, can’t you retain my credentials? That’s a pretty easy thing to do.

Is there even any content? It's all ads!!!!. Have you ever wanted a magazine full of nothing but ads? Well, congratulations, you found it! From cover to cover, front to back, you'll enjoy every ad you could possibly imagine. Hotels, Spas, restaurants, jewelry, in-state vacations, out-of-state vacations, clothing, golf-courses, you name it, it's here! The most diverse set of ads found in one place. Dare I say, a Texas-sized collection of ads! Texas Monthly is like an advertisement for advertisements! There's even a section of grouped pages right in the middle, and all these pages are labeled, you guessed it, "advertisement"! This issue contained a small error I think, as I found one page that didn't overwhelm me sales verbiage and models, but hopefully that will be corrected in the next issue. There's nothing quite as satisfying as taking a few minutes for yourself, that much needed relaxation and quiet time, finding a familiar copy of your favorite magazine, getting intrigued by a cover story, then spending hours flipping thru one ad, then another, then another, and another, and another, and another, never really finding any content at all! Thank you, Texas Monthly, for finally realizing exactly what the market wants, MORE ADS! And one final request: please find a way to put ads on the front cover, it's the only place left untainted by an advertisement!

Very Frustrating App. The magazine is great but the app is so buggy. One has to log in repeatedly. Makes it a pain in the *** to try and read TM on mobile devices; defeats the purpose of having the digital subscription. Please fix the bug when going back and forth between issue selector and articles — when I do that, I have to constantly log in.

Stopped working. I can no longer access my iTunes subscription to Texas Monthly. All it shows is a sign-in dialog and, since I subscribed through iTunes, the sign-in info doesn't exist. There is no 'Restore Purchases' option - just plain dead and useless.

Difficult mechanics. Content is fine. If you are going to offer access by app, you could make it easier to handle subscription. The app is not user friendly. It doesn’t handle the basic user needs for access, subscription management.

Lousy App Inerface. Compare this app to the Atlantic, New Yorker. Poor page usage. Inability to make page and pictures optically pleasing. TM should do better.

Buggy App. Monthly issues will not load occasionally. Considering canceling subscription.

You asked. I won’t renew my subscription again. This publication leans way to far left for me. How about more Texas history, festivals and facts. Leave the one sided political money to CNN.

Review. It’s annoying that you take upon yourselves to enterup our enjoyment of your magazine!

Poor app. I can not recover any back issues. The website is poorly designed.

Not an app experience. Texas Monthly, I love you. I have for years, and was so excited to see you finally made the move to an iPad app. But this is not a magazine app. This is taking the magazine in layout view and slapping it into what amounts to a large PDF. Whereas in other magazine apps I just scroll down to read a complete article, with this one I must stop and try to figure out where my article picks up again from the mass. The font is tiny. It's not a pleasant experience at all. It makes me sad, because such a great publication deserves better.

Great magazine. Love the digital format.

App won’t let me sign in. I paid for a Texas Monthly digital subscription and then downloaded the app and it won’t recognize my password. I have to use internet explorer.

TM Ap. Ap does not work even though I have a digital subscription. Customer Service is non existent.

Texas Monthly, a wonderful read.. I stumbled across Texas Monthly because of Steve Earle. He did that cover of Dublin Blues, where it mentions Mad Dog Margaritas at the Chile Parlor Bar. When I googled that, I got the Texanist’s column about Mad Dog Margaritas, and I was hooked. But then I read some stories, very well written , and I was subscribed. I highly recommend it.

Not recognizing my subscription. I have a full subscription that runs through the end of 2022 and yet this app doesn’t recognize it. Worthless piece of junk.

Digital should come free to print subscribers. Total BS that you have to separately purchase a digital subscription if you are already a print subscriber. Deleted this app and canceling my print subscription.

Small print. I had hopes when I saw that you had an update that you had added the capability to change font sizes, as do all other iPad publications that I use, and make the magazine readable. Unfortunately, that is not the case and a subscription would be useless to me at this time.

Paid but can’t log in. Paid but can’t log in. Reset password, still can’t log in. Very frustrated

Won’t retain my log-in. This app keeps asking for log-in despite being a subscriber. Compared to other subscription apps used, this one ranks last. Fix this or I not renew my subscription.

Great publication, miserable mobile app. The login service on this app is pure misery. Reading the article on this web wrapper is atrocious. Texas Monthly should hire a real developer to build a NATIVE APP because I can’t take this. I love being a TexasMonthly subscriber but good lord almighty... this iOS app needs to be thrown in the trash.

Subscribers to print should have iPad access gratis. My family has subscribed and gifted subscriptions for years. I travel for work and would be able to read it on the road. What a disappointment. Take a cue from Vanity Fair....treat your most loyal readers better

Poor app. The app needs much work! Can’t easily access stories!

Useless in iPhone. I bought the subscription in newsstand thinking it would be a mobile-friendly version (like NYT has) or even access to a web version that would at least allow scrolling within a page. Instead, it's just an image of the print version, therefore only readable on a tablet-sized screen. I don't have a tablet, so I'm probably going to request a refund.

No download. Still no download option when wifi or internet not available. This was once available… updated app provides no download option that works for airplane mode…?? Guess I’ll just keep on killing trees with TM in print when I travel.

Long time subscriber. Now even more enjoyment in using my iPad app to read it

Not ready for its iPad debut. As someone who has subscribed to Texas Monthly in the past, I love reading every issue for its great writing and content. However, Texas Monthly is not ready for its iPad debut although it's available for purchase through the iTunes Store. Essentially, the digital version is nothing more than a pdf of the printed magazine. Unlike other magazines who have made the jump and have transformed the digital versions of their magazines with interactive content and formatted to fit the iPad's screen, Texas Monthly is not as enjoyable to read on a tablet with its pixelated photos and pages that alternate between having to be read either in portrait or in landscape mode. Not to mention, like most other digital magazines for iPad where the entire article can be read continuously without ad interruptions or page flipping, you're stuck with reading an article on TM and having to stop midway to "continue to paged xx..." at the back of the magazine to finish reading just like the printed version -- a major drawback in my opinion. I think Emmis Communications should go back to the drawing board, yank the digital version from the iTunes Store, and just sell the print version until the digital iPad version is properly formatted. It'll make the iPad version a much more enjoyable experience and worth the purchase.

Still the Best. Texas Monthly continues to provide great news & insights to their readers about the Lone Star state!

Account Bug Resolved. I had the same issue that some users reported. Changed my password on texasmonthly.com and was finally able to link my account into the app. I had done this multiple times before with no success but now it’s not an issue. Also, I like how you can have an app account instead of just using Facebook to sync devices because I don’t have a FB account anymore. Great changes!

No reciprocity for print subscribers. I'm a print subscriber and I refuse to pay twice for a digital version. Need to get with the times!

We love BBQ. I am looking for an app that will tell me where BBQ restaurants are as we travel the us a lot!

Can not login. Paid for a three subscription. Login works on the website, but not on the mobile apps. First two days received a ‘incorrect password’ message, even after triple checking my credentials were correct, and now receiving a ‘Subscription not supported’ message. Reading the reviews this is a common enough issue the developer should have a fix or at least a message better than ‘call Texas Monthly’. I have this issue on the Android version of the app as well.

Won't accept login. This dumb app won't accept the login used at their website, and it only says "Authentication Failed". Contacting them is a waste of time. NO RESPONSE.

Flawed. Can't download the February issue. Please fix.

Terrible App. I love the magazine but the app is horrible. It keeps saying I have to unlock the content and that my username and password are incorrect. The same username and password work on the website. I would prefer to use the app, but this particular app leaves a lot to be desired.
