My Daily Plate App Description & Overview

What is my daily plate app? Track your eating, hit your goals, and focus on your success, all in one easy-to-use app. Inspired by the USDA's MyPlate icon, My Daily Plate makes eating right easy and fun. Leave the calorie counting to us.

Trainers love My Daily Plate for the export feature that emails your progress right to them, and users love the positive focus on what you should eat, rather than what you shouldn’t. Both love the simple Today’s Plate home screen, which shows your daily goals and progress in one colorful glance.

With this easy, user-friendly app, there is no typing, no keyboard, no data entry required. With a few simple taps, you enter your food and track your success.

We help you focus on the bigger picture of nutrition- eating the right portions of the right foods –so that calorie maintenance naturally occurs. There are no categories for foods that fall outside of these groups (i.e. junk food), because those foods do not contribute to your daily requirements and overall nutrition goals, which is what we’re focused on.
It’s not only about what’s healthy, but how much. All too often, people looking to eat right, eat wrong, erring on the side of too much protein, too few fruits, or out of proportion portions. With this app, you can clearly and simply see whether or not you are eating enough fruits, vegetables, protein, grains and dairy, and can adjust your next meal accordingly.

The rewards are both instant and long-term!

Start thinking about what’s significantly contributing to your nutritional needs rather than trying to track all the bad food you eat. Rather than feeling guilty about your bad choices each day, feel proud of and track your good choices using My Daily Plate app.

** Over 28,000 copies of My Daily Plate have been downloaded! **

Eh. I wish that you could search for the food that you ate. Also I wish you could have the option to record everything you eat, including chocolate or anything that doesn't fit into the categories

Perfect to Get A Well-balanced Meal!. Since I already have a calorie tracker, I wanted something else that would let me know how much vegetables, fruits, dairy, protein, and grains I need every day. Since then I have eaten way more fruits and vegetables and feel more energetic!! It also helps that because I'm eating more of the things I should first, there's less room to eat all the junk food after. If you want an app that helps you eat more of what you should, this app is perfect!!

Great Help, but Needs Some Tweaks. This app is really great. I love the easy way it lets you count calories to help clean up your diet, but I think there are some additions that would be really helpful. 1) An option to enter the stats about something you eat that isn't already an option in the menu. 2) The food menu has a lot of options, which is great, but it has a lot if gaps too. In having this app I'm working on my diet, and I'm sure a lot of other people are too. However, that doesn't mean I won't have a cookie or milkshake sometime.

Like the concept. This app is easy to use and visually appealing. I love the concept bot it does not allow for variations of the servings and the product list is very limiting. I had a half can of tuna but it only allows for a whole can. I have looked at every yogurt in the store and no yogurts match the ones on the list. I am trying to eat natural foods so it would be nice if some of the natural brands were on the list. Steel oats is not, in many cases I have to find something else on the list that is similar and use that. Which does not give my dietician exact data.

Very limited. It would be nice to have a search feature so you didn’t have to go through all the list of foods looking for something. Also the list of foods seems very limited and you can’t edit the serving amounts so if you only eat half of a serving what are you do? It’s OK but not great especially to not be free.

Almost perfect. I really like the ideas behind this app. It's perfect for someone who is trying to clean up their diet without pressure of a calorie maximum. I was most surprised by how quickly I reached my fruit goal for the day (since I love fruit) and how much more I had to try to get my vegetables (since I kind of lump them with fruit in my head). There are two things I've noticed so far that I wish they would add though. 1. A recipe section so that if I make some kind of crock pot dinner with peas carrots tomato and chicken and only eat a portion of it at a time I could simply input the contents of the whole dish then quickly add 1 cup of the recipe instead of trying to figure out how much of each ingredient I ate each time I eat the dish. 2. A mess up section. Say I give in to the temptation and eat a candy bar. Without imputing the particular thing I ate just simply giving myself a strike for the day so I could see how much I mess up to at least hold myself liable for those little mess ups rather than forgetting it ever happened.

It does what it says it does. Keep track of the right foods in the right amount. Don’t see a candy bar? Don’t eat it. Simple and helpful. It’s a tool not a crutch.

Almost there.. I think they should add a recipe section and if you eat something not on there. Also I saw a dietitian who recommended this to me and she said corn, potatoes, and some other things under the veg section is a starch/grain. Maybe adding a section for oils and stuff like ketchup, I don't eat much of it but I eat it.

Love it!. After reading about the new recommended daily allowances on the US FDA website I was going to track these manually, but then found this app! It does all the tracking for me easily and I love how you see your daily progress visually in the plate. Super easy to use and motivating! *the only thing I would ask to improve-I couldn't figure out how to add fats/oils so it would be counted in my calories for the day.

Simple food tracker. I like the simplicity of this food tracker. The graphical interface is very user friendly. The only thing that I wish it had was a way to easily track things like pizza, pasta and sandwiches. You have to just put in your estimate of the quantity of the main components.

Needs more options. It would be helpful to be able to edit a plate from a previous day or two. After dinner I don’t always remember to enter what I ate and the app wont allow me to do it in the morning for the prior day or add to a prior day. Also, it’s silly that there are no entries for butter, oil, sour cream, etc that is added to foods - thus lowering the calorie intake that is shown and making it quite inaccurate. Also, there no place for sweets/sugar to be entered. I understand the point is to track the healthy foods eaten, but it’s not realistic to only eat purely healthy foods. It would also be helpful for there to be smaller amounts of things as an option. I don’t put 1/2 c of spinach in my eggs, and want to enter 1/4 c. Or I eat 3 baby carrots, not 6. A little more customization and a sweets and fats category would be great.

Could use a few things. I really like how it charts out the food groups on the plate / but does not let you know how many more you need for the day. It is hard to see what has been consumed for the day, needs more food choices, and some more personalization - weight or inches tracker... A few simple things need to be added to this app and it would be excellent!

Disappointing. My dietician recommended the choose your plate website to track my food intake through pregnancy. I was excited to see the app. Unfortunately the app is not useful. The food is very limited. You cannot even find pizza on it. Also you cannot update the nutrition recommendations for being pregnant. I am really disappointed I spent money on this. The app could really be improved by adapting the features of the website.

Could use more food choices.. I like the simplicity of this app; however, I wish there were more food choices. There is a option for meatless hotdogs but what about other meat free options?? An update with more food choices would be great (especially vegetarian and vegan options).

Review. Love this app... can’t believe how quickly I reach each food group goal ... I was really over eating and didn’t realize how much ... I also use My Fitness Pal app and it’s amazing how accurate the calories are compared to My Daily Plate especially considering you can’t add condiments or coffee... etc. Love Love Love this app ... looking forward to pounds dropping off

Nice and Simple. I use this app to keep track of what I eat. It's good to see what food groups I favor and which ones I need to try harder to include in my diet. It's simple and easy to use. Choices are limited for which foods you can select, I keep hoping they'll update the app and add more. But it's a good way to estimate how you're doing without going calorie crazy

Review!. I think this is a great app but I kind of wish they had more Goode options, or a barcode scan. I can see why it has just the plain stuff but it would be nice to see what the current calorie in take really is

Good but needs some fixes. I like the idea but would like a feature to allow for customization of the macronutrients categories. Or at least something telling me how much of each category makes it "complete". How much protein is the app suggesting I ought to eat every day?

Please make toggle feature for dairy. Overall, I love how simple and straightforward this app is. I don’t mind the limitations on fat or sweets, as I don’t eat much of those anyway. So far I’ve been able to find workarounds for how to log things accurately that aren’t exactly listed in the available options. What’s missing is the ability to customize categories. I can’t eat dairy, so the fact that it’s factored in my totals for calorie count each day completely messes up the math. I wish there was a way to turn off the dairy. (Canada no longer includes dairy on their food plate recommendations, so perhaps the app could also reach a wider audience by allowing dairy to be toggled on or off in calculations). With that adjustment I could make this app work, without it, I expect I’ll have to keep looking.

Very limited options. This app is simple to use and I like that. However, it does not allow you to change the food amount consumed. It also does not have a lot of basic foods. The food list is quite limited. If those two things were fixed, this would be an excellent app!

Useful, needs more options. I like the visual display and it really helps to plan what your next meal should be. It was eye opening for me to see how I need to balance my diet. I wish there were more portion options (smaller) and more foods available to choose from or the ability to customize foods and add your own calories.

A little disappointed. I was hoping this app would have the information needed on what should amounts be consumed daily. Also there isn't much personalization options. I can't put in my own foods which I would imagine throws off the accuracy of this app. Hopeful for changes soon... As I actually paid for this app and it isn't even close to what the free ones offer!

Could Be Great With A Few Additions. I track a lot of my food on other apps and finally realized that I didn’t know how much I was consuming of the food pyramid, so I decided to use this app. I like it, but it could be great with a few additions: 1) I see my plate and it filling, but don’t know the the recommendations that I should be eating. That should be a basic. 2) Foods need to be expanded for this of us with allergies- and don’t eat certain types of food-, ie I don’t eat dairy so use coconut milk and that isn’t listed. 3) Allow for half serving or more serving sizes. 4) Allow for other swaps- ie, can foods count for more than one category and be able to have it added for both. With that- this would be a great app.

Limited. The food selection is okay, but you can't customize anything. I wanted to change the amount of food I ate and it wouldn't allow me to. I also wanted to set limits on my protein consumption and it didn't give me that option. The breakdown of what foods you're eating is great but it's so simple you don't know what type of carb you're eating or what percentage you are at. I am very disappointed.

Waste of 99 cents. It could be really great if it let you add foods that aren't on the list. For example, I needed to add a protein shake and it wasn't on the list and there was no way to personalize it. On the website you can add recipes and there are more options for foods to choose from, but I downloaded this app because I wanted the convenience of not having to log it on the computer every day. This doesn't really do me much good.

More Options. I like what is available. It makes me more aware of how and what to eat to be healthier and to make sure I get enough meats and veggies. I wish there was a place where we could put in sweets and see how that affected our plate/calorie count. I wish there was an option to put in drinks other than water. I would like to see more options for cereal.

Just use my fitness pal. I thought this app would be great. I just had a baby and can’t see my nutritionist for a month. Since she and I always focus on the plate idea, I thought this app would be perfect because it Mimics what I did pre pregnancy. However, I don’t like that I can’t enter my own items or scan my own items. I am limited to what this app provides. My fitness pal is identical and free! Wish I didn’t waste the 99 cents. This app has a lot of potential, but it’s not there yet.

Only three stars..... I easily would have given this 5 stars if it were not for the fact there is no place to mark off fats and oils, sugars, or condiments. It's very easy and simple to use and I can see where this is going to be a great help! Add the extras and I will gladly give you 5 stars!

Simple!!!. My husband and I have been searching for a simple way to balance out calories. We were sick of restricting our diet, counting calories and feeling overwhelmed by options. This is simple, to the point way of keeping your daily calorie intake balanced for optimal health benefits. We are eager to use this app for our weight loss journey.

Great app. I love this app because it gives me a clear visual of what I am missing in my meals every day. The main update that I see as key is to be able to add your own foods that are not listed and to add your own serving size since I find myself being in the quantities that are not listed. Being able to edit your own calories would be great too.

Could be great with key improvements. I was looking for exactly this kind of plate display to help me balance my fresh food intake. I just wish there was a way to track foods that don’t quite fit in the categories- junk foods. Just for tracking sake. The food list is also very rudimentary, which is annoying but ok since I just want to see roughly how many servings of each category I get. I would NOT recommend if you want to track calories, because you can’t search specific brand foods to get an accurate count.

Garbage app. the app gives no information on macros other than basically water and calories. you dont get any vitamin intake or anythigb. u could fill up on the categories and it will say good job meanwhile you are deficient on a particular vitamin or mineral but the app doesnt measure those. years agp the my plate was created by the USDA and there were calculations for all macros. this app is a calorie counter. wasted a dollar.

Simplicity is the key to happiness. I read reviews before buying this app but thought I should try it out for myself. Yes, is doesn't have a "fats" category, but, let's be honest, we shouldn't be eating them anyway. ;) It would be nice if there was an option for other beverages, because I do have my cup of coffee everyday. I love that water is alone because it helps me reach my goal. This app is so simple!!! You just pick the category and enter what you eat & how much. I hate when descriptions get so complicated and are hard to find. Simplicity is key...

Love the layout but needs improvement. I love the layout and I want to use it however I could not find a protein bar, for instance. Or I am looking the wrong way. It would be great if we could scan bar codes like other apps.

Needs improvement. I used this app a few days and found it easy to use with calories goal count, history log of foods eaten each day, food selection to log calories and colorful plate to show the fulfillment each food groups. However it would be an improvement to update with more food selection because some foods I ate are not available for selection (it is more complicated to select different ingredients here and there to calculate calories just for an item example like Pizza. I also wish there are activity log and weight log too.

Perfectly simple. I like this app so far. I like that it is not too complicated like calorie counter apps. I like visuals instead of numbers so the simple graphics are more appealing to me. There are actually a lot of options in the food lists, more than I expected. I am excited to see if I can make a difference in my diet. I am terrible at eating enough vegetables and a pro at getting all the carbs.

Great app. Love the simplicity of it , I have tried so many app and this is for sure the best , it may need a few thing to be perfect but I love it so far . And for those needing a junk food addition hello you should not eat them to the first place that's why they are not in the list . This all about clean eating and right portion .

Ihazproblem (yes I can spell). I would like a recipe section and an option to type how much I had. Also stuff like garlic or pizza dough or things like that aren’t on here. Also the weight doesn’t give the option for my weight (I’m 70lbs).

On its way. This is a great app, as another reviewer mentioned, the idea behind it is great.. But a few comments: • adjustable "plates" - if I'm trying to increase my fruit and veggie intake and decrease my grain and dairy intake, I'd love to be able to have that reflected on here so I stay reminded. • add almond and coconut milk :) • though yes, we shouldn't be eating candy and fats, sometimes it happens, and I think being able to see how much of our goal calories it takes up would deter people from eating them. Or at least me anyway. Love it though. Excited to use it

Great App. I believe this is a great app but only if a person uses it. I will be using it daily. I don’t have to guess at what I have to eat, the list of the grains, vegetables, proteins, dairy and fruits are right there. Great job for the developers of this app.

Could be better. The simplicity of this app is hard to beat. However, there is a limited selection of foods already programmed into the app, and no option to add one's own foods. A broader selection of foods would make the app better.

Great visuals. Quick and easy way to make sure I have consumed enough of a food group over the course of a day versus counting calories. Great beginning teaching tool for children/adolescents to support or improve their knowledge in eating healthy/balanced meals.

Good app but need work. The app does a great job of tracking the different food groups and it helps me ensure I get enough vegetables. Where I find it lacking is in the food logging itself. There is no way to log food that is processed or "unhealthy" and so if you eat something like that you can't log the calories. Then when you review the week it seems like you got less calories when really you just ate things you couldn't log. With a few updates it could be a rockstar app for healthy eating!

Nice simplicity. This is what I was looking for: a simple way to make sure I’m getting in all those healthy foods I need. I love the plate and cup pictures to visualize the amounts. It’s missing some foods, like peanut butter, but I just choose peanuts and that works. It doesn’t have to be exact because I’m not counting calories (hooray! That’s no fun!). I just need to focus on eating healthy. It doesn’t even have bad foods listed, which is fine. I shouldn’t be having them. When I focus on what I do need, I’m more likely to avoid the bad stuff. I love the simple concept.

Too basic. Can not adjust quantities, limited food options, but worst of all for me/what I was looking for was something to take into account for pregnancy. It’s an option on their website calculator, so I had to adjust the calories to what was stated there, but it changes quite a bit from start to finish. This is the time when nutrition matters the most! Too basic, so I will not be using anymore. Maybe in a few years when I’m no longer breastfeeding and can focus on a simple diet, but I doubt it.

So limited as to be useless and actively misleading. Giving the user only a (rather limited) list of options to choose from, without any way to add custom items, means that what gets recorded is often full of gaps to the point of being useless and misleading. No way to enter any fats and oils? No way to enter any desserts or candy? No beverages other than water and milk? Ridiculous. There's no way to record the cup of coffee or tea you drank, or the soda, or OJ. You can record the bread you ate, but not the butter you put on it. If you eat a candy bar, your calorie count in this app won't know about it. You had fish? The app will assume it was either baked or grilled. Of course, if it was actually fried, the app will estimate the calories very wrong. If you had peas, the app simply assumes there were "no salt or fat added." If you had a salad, the app won't know about the dressing. (And to all the people in these reviews saying "well, you _shouldn't_ eat sweets/fried food/fats" - shouldn't this app log what you actually eat, not what you _should ideally_ eat? And an app that only works for people who already always eat the ideal diet isn't much of a helpful app.)

Helpful & informative. Once I started to using My Daily Plate I discovered just how imbalanced a diet I had. In my mind I thought I ate right but knowledge is power and this app helps me know when I need to made adjustments. Functionally, the app is super simple to use and intuitive. I love the layout and ability to monitor my progress.

Useless. You can't add anything that isn't on here if you need to cause the calorie counts to be off. Junk food or unnecessary items that don't "pertain" to the 5 food groups aren't on any lists minimizing what you can really pick. There are no meals either. I had lasagna today and if I want to even add that to record my calories then I need to make sure I know how much of each ingredient I ate that makes that lasagna. Not worth the 99¢ that you pay for it and any other free dieting and calorie counting app will do what this app does and more. If you're adamant about using choose my plate, I suggest you use the supertracker that comes online because this one won't help you.

Great for what is intended. Most of the criticisms here are lack of options and details. This is why I love this app! I’ve used detailed calorie counters and they are great to really track calories. This app is not for that. This is an easy way to ensure your eating a balanced diet. For that, detail and thousands of options are not necessary or desirable. The concept is sort of the opposite of a calorie counter, is more about are you getting enough fruit and vegetables? If you fill up the protein or grains by lunchtime, you know you overdid it and can adjust for dinner. So if you want a calorie counter, this will not be your best bet. If you want to eat healthier and not sweat the fun size Snickers you mindlessly popped in your mouth because, well, because it’s so good and not worth ruining your day with regrets, then this is the app for you.

Dietitian approved!. As a Registered Dietitian I look for tools that are helpful and easy. This app is what I have been looking for! The simplicity is its key because having to search and scroll through thousands of brands becomes so tedious that people stop. This easy-to-use app will help you choose a variety of healthful foods which is the ultimate goal in striving for a healthy lifestyle! The updates and improvements just released made it even better!
