One of the best iPad music apps. Period.. Wonderful sounding, solid as a rock. All iPad apps should strive for this kind of quality. I can't wait for Ipulsaret to also get on the 'bus! On a side note: I wish Chris Carlson could team up with these developers to get his wonderful "Borderlands" granular app running like this!

Simply the best.. The best app there is for layered soundscapes, drones, glitchy textures, or lush ambience. A must for all experimental iOS musicians. New update is sensational...now, if I could only find a midi controller with 200 knobs and faders to take full tactile control of the depth of this app. Sensational.

Perfect granulator. So that's two lengthy, well-considered reviews of this tool that were eaten by iTunes. No time for details now, so if you are into granulation and appreciate a full featured granulator with an intuitive but by no means simple interface, fork over the 8 bucks now. Extra tip: Use Studiomux to route the six tracks in iDensity into six tracks of your favorite DAW--in my case, ableton. Beautiful.

I am ape for the Ape!. Fantastic updates to an already fantastic app! Recommended!

Surper Grains. A superb app for graular textures. Hardware synths are an absolute joy to use, however when it comes to granular synthesis, the options are very bare. Apesoft has given us the answer, all praises due! As another reviewer stated, I too desired a midi note on/off option, and then i found the app iPulsaret -bingo! If your seeking to take a plunge into granular synthesis i highly recommend both of these apps.

Audio Patchbay baby!. The audio patchbay takes this to a new level! Glad to see the devs are still pushing the limits of an already great app.

iDensity Does it Again!. As far as it goes, this is by far the best granular DSP app for altering sound files and optionally copy/pasting them into other apps. It's one of the very few sound mangling apps that can produce 48k files, making it suitable for film scoring/sound design. Results can be subtle & clean or fetchingly horrendous. I've run iDensity on iPad 2 and gotten great results. I suspect it's very CPU intensive to do it's thing. I've had no crashing problems at all so far.

Crazy sounds. Giving 4 stars because there’s no way that I can see to sync the au3 transport to host. You have to start and stop it manually or it just keeps going, which is quite annoying. Otherwise, a good take on granular synthesis. Ok, so now the transport sync seems to work, never did in the past. Thanks for fixing!

Crashes. This app worked for a minute or so. Upon recording a test sample with the iPad mic; the app suddenly crashed and hasn't worked since. Will be happy to rerate when this is fixed, but until then….one star. PLEASE FIX THIS

Nice!. This thing is Sick! I'm still checking it out, so far so good. I can see myself using the audio copy alot.

Great, but missing a needed feature. Apesoft apps are released incredible, and only grow in power over time. That said, I believe there is lacking function in iDensity which it's performance interface would benefit from for. IDensity is missing independent midi note control over the pitch of each of the 6 streams. As it stands now, control of pitch is controllable by everything under the sun EXCEPT a midi note # (there is a global midi note and channel selection, but nothing for each independent stream's pitch keyboard). I was thinking about leaving 4 stars, but there is nothing wrong with the app as it stands now, but it seems a curious omission not to be able to control something with a keyboard ..which is represented on screen with a keyboard (pitch). Ideally midi note # and channel select would be available as a modifier/controller, or be configurable under settings. Fantastic app, and a big user of Apesoft's Granulr suite.

Wonderful Sound Manipulator. Great for long evolving sounds, soundscapes, manipulating sounds, textural drones and just general fun. Everything this developer does is great.

Very good!. This app is perfect for mangling beats to smithereens, would love to be able to chop samples, hopefully in an update

SOLID. Great app for granular sound dismemberment. X/Y snapshot morphing does not work on iPad 1. Tried lowing both the grain overlap and the playback frequency. Also tried setting up four very simple snapshots...all to no avail. Still a useful musical sound creation tool without the morph pad but could be stellar should it ever become usable.

new release. There are no instructions as to how to use this complex app!! Cannot record from built in mike!! (Or I cannot figure out how!!)

Best Granular Sound Design Tool I've Used on iPad. Ape Soft also makes iPulsaret which as of now I do not own. The only reason I don't own it is because I have iDensity. This is the granular app to have on your apple device. This app is powerful. You've got 6 streams of granular synthesis which can all run at the same time if you'd like. You can have a stream looping while pitch shifted with delay while another stream is frozen on a particular grain with delay and reverb and still have 4 more granular streams left. You can load your own samples into each stream, add fx and tinker for hours. You can load the app in Audiobus or AUM as an effect. In AUM each of the 6 streams can be used to live process the incoming audio. You can export the audio to AudioShare if you'd like. This app is up to date, well thought out and very powerful.

Impressive Granular Synth. I am impressed by this powerful app. By far this app exceeded my expectations. I have tried many granular synth app and this is definitely the best. Congratulations! Would love to see a built in wave-editor (mainly to cut samples) and the possibility to determine the length of the loop.

Awesome. This app is as good as any vst i have for granular fun.

On your own. This might be a really awesome app. Or, it might be a complete waste of money. Hard to say, since there is no manual, no help file, no description of the controls, no website support. Nothing. There is a video on the website, but of an older version. Imported sounds are nearly always cut off, and waveform behavior is not logical. Only "plays" the portion visible in the window. $8-really? Curtis is much more useful. 1 star until it's less buggy and has documentation.

Unable to record audio. I like it but I'm unable to record into the mic. Can you please fix this? Thanks

Brilliant Update. This has been an essential sound design app and now the option of running multiple tracks makes it even more so. So much control and so many changing sonic variations are possible. This developer continues to innovate and improve on an impressive portfolio of synthesis tools.

Excellent synth for ambient scapes! 🧚🏼‍♀️. When in standalone mode (or IAA), you get 6 windows to load your audio files. When you load up like 2 or more audio files that’s when the magic begins to happen and you can create really unique ambient scapes. I think it might be possible to “play” it somehow as an instrument, but I find it works best with longer audio files creating continuous motion. It’s pretty much perfect in what it does and how it does it. Beautiful UI and very pleasant controls. When you load it in your dDAW as AUv3, you just get a single window. Well you can run multiple instances in AUv3, so you can basically have more of them, and save them all, along with your project. Still, I prefer to use IAA mode because you just have all the audio files in front of you to tweak, and adjust individually to get the “unified” sound. NOTE: when you tap in the top right corner, you’ll see an icon labeled “Samplers in presets”. Make sure this is enabled if you want to load your saved project as it were when you saved it. Otherwise it’ll load preset of the tweaks, but leave whatever audio samples you got currently loaded. Both options have their place, but can be confusing if you don’t know about this. This is definitely a solid 5-star app. Only one request, please make presets alphabetical. There’s a way to rearrange them, but there’s really no point in doing this extra management when we can just group them “naturally” in alphabetical order. Also please load the existing project name into the Save As. It helps *a lot* when saving successively. Oh, and the same request for ApeMatrix please!! Love your unique apps, thanks for making them!

Nope.. No more money for this guy until he 1) puts documentation online 2) fixes broken tutorial link 3) allows user guide to be downloaded. I've never seen such contempt for the end user, it's like he just doesn't care.

Problems Solved. I had some trouble after the update. It was extremely buggy and I wasn't too fond of the GUI changes. But I tried deleting it and reinstalling from the cloud and that cleared it up. This is one of my favorite apps and I was devastated when I thought the upgrade wasn't working properly. Seems good again. So if you have problems, back up your data and reinstall.

A Favorite just got WAY Cooler!. iDensity was one of the first iOS audio apps I bought several years ago. It showed me the incredible possibilities there are with granular sound. Over the years it just keeps getting better! Now, with iDensity 4 we have an AU host similar to this developers apeMatrix host matrix, but built right into iDensity. How insane is that?! Huge fan of this app and this developer. Highly Recommended :)

Amazed. Definitely one of the most intriguing music / sound creation apps for ios. the learning curve is there but once u get it WOW running six samples simultaneously with the ability to do just about anything to them lends to infinite creation. i love being able to to touch to scrub the waveform. a real joy ✨✨✨✨✨

iDensity is an unbelievable app. Brilliant and thoughtfully done.. A stunning update: having four tracks is a pleasure. Absolutely stellar sound, no unwanted pops and glitches, infinite sustain. You can run live audio through all four channels and let it breathe granular pulses and delays into your sounds. I'm a huge fan. I have a Microgranny 2.1 (the hardware equivalent) and this eclipses it. Future of music in an app.

Please update for iOS7. I love this app, unfortunately it crashes upon opening using iOS7. Please fix.

Granular Synthesis Heaven!!!. The 4 file stream addition really adds a new dimension to what was already a very interesting app. I've been wishing for a iOS replacement to my all time favorite granular synthesis program Granulab with it's 8 simultaneous streams. I think iDensity just quelled that thirst. ;-)

One word. There is only one word that describes an experience with this excellent app: WOW!

Great app, buuut .... I can't get the preset management working properly. Every time I load a new preset, it maintains the samples from the last preset. I followed the instructions from the manual to reload the factory presets, but I still have my own samples from the last thing I did loaded. Still a great app, even with the missing preset bit, just not working at the best of its capability.

Well. It's 7.99 plus a three dollar purchase. Not very happy about that. I bought this because you guys have been working hard on your updates. I feel like it's my duty to support good developers and your work is really good. Honestly the dynamics processor is worth buying your app alone. I'm saying this because I really do care. Watch the price and iap because it will ruin you in the long run.

Awesome👈🏼. Thanks so much to this update! I don't care I paid for the full version, it was worth it!🙂 This app is very very cool if you need and want the fun of creating your own audio sound scape! It's pretty detailed for sure. To have the ability to capture "found sound" with my phone, manipulate it, then mix into my other audio…well, this app is the cats meow! In fact, I think I'll go right now and see just what I can do with that meow!😼

Sound Manglers Rejoice. Load up some tracks or pipe in some audio and be prepared to lose track of time as you explore what this app is capable of. Really enjoyable playing with multiple tracks. You can get a lot going on in just one screen and being able to zoom in on the wave form works well too.

Mangle City. This app will turn your sounds inside out and upside down. My only complaint is the UI. It is as counterintuitive as the sounds you will create. A few examples: (1) how to revert the original sound to its unaffected self - I don't know! (2) How to bring back sound I just had before I further mangled it inadvertently - I don't know! (3) How to snap an effect on and off with preset values (ie - go from 0.00 to 2.05 with one scrub, and then have it snap automatically back to 0.00 without scrubbing back) - I don't know! (4) how to apply a preset scenario - I don't know! So, as far as the sounds you can get, awesome...major transformation possible, not just mid level tweaks to pattern impact. But, as far as the workflow, it too feels like mangle city, it feels like a gamble each time. Some more control would be useful as far as backtracking and snapping back. Maybe I'm missing the point in that you are supposed to let it morph your sound and you follow it, but this workflow can be frustrating, even if inspiring.

Immense. The soundscapes that are possible with this deceptively simple but very powerful app, are staggering. From just a few “oohs” and “aahs”, I created a huge glacial marvel. You can really push the harmonics and things to make insane sounds, or you can keep it cleaner and pretty. Granular synthesis is fun AF. Super highly recommend this elegantly designed treat of a synth!

Incredibly powerful granular manipulation!. This is simply the most powerful app for manipulating sound at a granular level. This is really the best method for creating new and unique sounds for use in samplers, synths and drum machines. There are powerful effects and filters which are combined with the incredible granular control to give some of the biggest and glitchiest sounds around. It also has extra Y axis modulation control which is totally customisable, perfect for real time wave scrubbing, with all the granular controls available on the one screen. I highly recommend this app, as well as the iPulsaret app because they are the most powerful granular apps available, and they are an experience that shouldn't be missed!

Amazing!. Apesoft is up there with Amazing noises and Kymetica to put out the best experimental and great sounding apps! iDensity is but one example of the talent of this developer. And this one is just amazing!

Excellent and inspiring. This is a very well thought out and fully fledged granular synthesis machine. It's easy to use and intuitive for anyone who is familiar with granular synthesis and sampling but still very powerful. Kudos to the developer!

LOVE IT.. I hate to say it, but until Borderlands Granular supports even the most basic IOS frills like 30-pin output support, screen rotate, audiocopy/paste and Audiobus, this BLOWS it right out of the water (no offence to BLG's developer, I still love it.) But this really picks up where BLG left off. Unfortunately iDensity has the same fiddly UI control problems that iPulsaret has, but the sheer character this thing brings out of even the most mundane, crummy mic-input, zero-thought samples is almost beyond belief. Even just saying a simple "Hello" into the recorder will yield some pretty insane & rich audio. The lack of being able to sample from more than one source at a time (like say, Samplr) is no issue since the zoom feature makes sure you can milk every last weird blip & hiss from even a 1 or 2 second piece of audio. On that note, anyone familiar with the Samplr will really like this too. Sorta like the Borderlands Granular sound in the Samplr interface, and I feel, outdoing both. So awesome. Fix the control responses and it'll be perfect.

Terrific app for soundscaping.. Mapping key functions to a controller such as LaunchControl makes this terrific app even more playable.
