Catan FAQ:

Question: An expansion seems gone after an update or reinstallation of Catan or after restoring the device?
Answer: Don’t worry, your initial purchase is already saved in your iTunes account. You can restore your InApp purchases by selecting the restore-option in the Catan IAP menu.

Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating or restoring my device. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: When saved games can’t be automatically restored, we’ve integrated a cheat code: In the campaign mode go to select player and enter "CatanWarp*" (* = 1–15) as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button and restart it. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number (1–15). Levels up to the specified number will be unlocked in the custom game mode as well.

Question: Are dice rolls really random?
Answer: Of course! All dice rolls are 100% random and not modified in any way. We’re avid Catan players ourselves. We’ve played the iOS version hundreds of times while developing the program. There have been times when we won and lost a few games in a row because of the dice - just like when playing the board game!

Catan Classic HD Comments & Reviews 2026

not intuitive, cannot play. what a piece of crap game. A few years ago I purchased this game and it's no longer available on my iPad. Today I spent five dollars on it and I can't even figure out how to play it. Campaign is locked, I don't want to play online with others, and when I try to create a custom game it's an endless loop of asking me my name in my character icon. I've clicked on several icons, and I can't even play the game and I'm not going to spend another five minutes trying to figure it out. It was five dollars, but what the hell, I'm on multi millionaire, I'll just delete this piece of crap from my iPad because I cannot immediately figure out how to start a new game, though if I was a teenager I want to spend another 5-10 minutes I probably could, but it's not worth my time. what a shame that you can't even simply start a new game and play against the AI like the original game.

Use often but.... I will not be adding anything other reviewers haven’t observed. Hate that I can’t see how many development cards are left to purchase. When playing online with family I will loose the ability to see my progress cards in City And Knights. Have to exit and then only half the time can I get back in without having system boot someone else offline. I would be willing to pay for expansions that will change the board layout. If you play often enough you will memorize the unexposed tiles in the expansion. PLEASE upgrade this.

Became Glitchy. I have had this app for a couple of years now. Until recently it worked great. Often played against the computer players on flights. However, recently it has become very glitchy. The app will crash multiple times in a game. Although you can reload and pick up where you left off, it is very annoying. Today, the app has frozen mid-play and not “passed the dice” to the next player. Saving and going back in has not fixed this problem. My only solution was to exit the game and create a new one. I haven’t seen an update for the app in a long time. I’m wondering if the creators have abandoned it. Sure hope not considering it is not a free app and I have also purchased the expansion sets. Hope the developers fix this app soon!

Horrible AI experience. Every time I play against AI players, the game freezes almost every time I have to move the robber. Additionally the game gives you an option to trade resources with the AI players. The system allows the trades between AI players all day long and I can agree to their offer but I have never had an offer by me accepted and I tested by giving away a kings random and they still decline. Shocking that a present day app has sooooo many issues that have not been fixed which ruins the game. They even make you sign a waiver that under no circumstances can you get your money back. Never seen one so weirdly written. Makes it look like they don’t care to make fixes but just collect fees. Sad!

Eurohistorian. I don’t understand why the problems with the dice and cards not being fair can’t be fixed. Very frustrating. I love the game Catan, but there are more aggravating games with this app than enjoyable ones. Often the pattern is robber on me; I remove the robber, and robber on me again until I loose my lead and ultimately the game. The dice rolls are NOT random-no matter which dice preference you choose. How hard is it to make random rolls? No fun to play when rolls favor the AI. When the algorithm does not like a human move, the dice rolls punish the human until the human loses. One bad thing after another. A restart button would help if initial choice was not the best, or you wanted a refresh of the same game and try a different strategy. How about an option to play with your own dice? Like someone else said, why would the AI trade with the AI leader?

Have enjoyed the app since it first came out. And I will continue to play it. I only play solo against 3 cpu-players, as that gives me the flexibility to pause the games for hours or days. The feature I would like added: To be able zoom out, position the playing area, and the Lock the screen, so that I do not have to keep re-adjusting the zoom and position. Glitches: None of the cpu-players, play the Commercial Harbor card. The cpu-players do not seem able to displace the pirate when using a knight. Occasionally the treasure chest icon remains on the screen, blocking the view of a card being played by one of the other players. It would be nice if the right-side action menu did not have the cards icon (since the cards can be accessed via the bottom menu) and then shorten the side menu so it does not block the two right corner player's card-count of city speciality. When ever a sub-menu does not fully show, I 'toss' the app away, and restart the game, continuing the same game. So far I have not had a game totally crash beyond being able to keep playing.

Save your frustration and money. Play the board game instead. Where to begin. The AI and “randomness” of the dice rolls are stacked waaaaay against you. The AI conveniently acquires nearly all the development cards at an impossible to match rate, giving them an early advantage which then leads to another problem - the robber. The AI specifically target you and only you with Knight cards/7 rolls of the dice. It doesn’t matter if other AIs lead the game, you instantly become the one and only target as soon as you have more than one development on any hex. Doesn’t even matter if the strongest AI has 3 cities on a 6/8 hex, you’re still the only target. That then leads to the next problem, the unfairness of the dice. They are definitely not random. Rarely will you get numbers for hexes you own and when you do there’s a robber on it conveniently placed by the AI. Most frustratingly is the dice will always roll the EXACT number you need immediately after the AI has placed the robber. This game screws you in every way possible. Waste of money.

Addicted even with the glitches. Update: one day suddenly the app started crashing about a dozen times during each game. Even though you just reopen the app, “continue” the game and have to repeat the last move, it is hugely annoying. Wth?! ——————— This review is about bot play on the basic game. I’m guessing from old reviews that the game has improved, but still many glitches. Usually can’t tell how many D cards are left, the number is almost completely covered. [TIP: Try buying one without the resources to do it. If there are none left, it will tell you there are no more to buy. If there are any left, it will say you don’t have sufficient resources.] And sometimes toward the end the Dcard page is almost completely gone. Sometime you cant even play one you had been saving! Also sometimes the stat page is cut off. There are also no stats as far as I can see how many times I’ve won. It should also tell you what numbers have been last rolled for monopoly strategy purposes. It goes too fast to see who got what, what the spent and what they bought. All that being said, my husband and I are still addicted. Plus unlike many other bot app games the bots are frustratingly challenging.

Some problems. First off, I love the Catan board game. It is a blast to play. This one, while it is still fun, does have some issues. First, there is a glitch with the campaign, and every time I start the first level, it closes out the app. Next, I do believe the game would be more fun if the odds weren’t stacked completely against you. Even them out a little, so that the robber doesn’t target YOU only. Let the other players steal resources from each other. Now, you aren’t always the AI's target, but once you take the lead, it’s a run for your money. You have to practically spend your cards just as fast as you get them because the AI will take them away on the next turn. Nonetheless, Catan is a fantastic game of strategy and economics, but if you REALLY want to play a good game, get the board game.

Fun, simple, true to real game. Overall very fun. This has been my "go to" iPad game for a while now. Pros: true to board game. Simple! (Beats the hell out of time consuming board set-up). Variety of game options (I splurged for all expansions after enjoying basic game). Not "glitch free", but reliable overall. Nice to be able to select AI with different skill levels, and to vary rules within some games (i.e.- with or without Knights) Cons: minor glitches. At least once per games the pop-up graphics (i.e.- development cards) disappear. But the game reliably auto saves, and simply closing/restarting corrects this. About 1 in 20 I have a game "freeze" and be unrecoverable. The AI's are OK, but not great. I note some complaints questioning randomization. I do not find this to be the case. Rather, I notice a pattern that I usually take an early lead, then the AI's all target me (robbers, blocked roads, etc) as a defensive response. I only play AI. Have not tried multiplayer. Overall strongly recommend this game for iPad.

Expert is rigged; user interface could be improved; constant crashes. First of all, where is the Pirates and Explorers Expansion???? Or Traders and Barbarians? The expert level is a game of 3 against 1. No question about it. The computer absolutely refuses any trades. I offered 19 items for any one item, and the computer refused every offer. I was losing the game already and wanted to see what would happen. The robber never left my hexes unless I moved it away myself. I never roll a 7 when the robber is on my hex. Never. The user interface needs to be updated too. I would like to be able to see my menu items before making a choice regarding resources given or taken. I need to know how many settlements I have left versus cities. That would help me decide between taking a wheat or a brick. And what's with the constant crashing? We never lose anything, but the game requires constant restarts. Sometimes, you can't see the menu, or something else quirky happens. Otherwise, it's a great game to hone my skills while waiting to raise a game with my friends. Please consider the updates, and this will become the best game on the iPad. Thanks! Edit: seems the latest version is very stable. Hasn’t crashed yet. Still waiting on expansions to be added.

IPad Pro 9" and game freezes. Update October 8, 2017, For about a month this game was working well. Development cards were working. With the upgrade of iOS 11 the development cards do not work. Very frustrating. Until it is fixed save your money. One of my favorite board games to play, however about every third game the board freezes and I cannot use the accept check or the cancel cross symbols nor lay a road in the lower part of the game board even though the road is highlighted that this is an option. The only way I can continue the game is to force the app close and start all over again. Annoying - Update March 2017, I am developing additional bugs since i purchased the additional cities and knights for 9.99. The Progress cards due not work and cause the game to freeze. Also i have played an entire game with only one progress card while the computer players recieve many. And of course the seven is rolled way to often. I love this game and sincerely wish the developer USM, would fix all the bugs. So as of today I have gone from a 3 to a 2 star rating.

Fun but frustrating. I have not played the multiplayer mode, so my comments exclusively apply to the single player mode vs the computer AI. It can be fun, but you should plan on playing in a losing position most of the game. The moment you take the lead, 7s will be rolled repeatedly, every CPU player will play a knight, and whatever resource the robber is on will be rolled repeatedly. It is not at all random. About 50% of the games I play I want to delete the app and never play again. A few days go by and I talk myself into trying it again, but ultimately end up very frustrated. That said, the CPU AI is not programmed well for Seafarers boards and the frustrations can be easily overcome with ship building and settlements on islands. Have fun...try not to get too frustrated.

The game play is frustrating. My family are avid players of Catan, but this game is unbelievably unfair. I'm a decent player, and I've only won once for the following reasons; 1. Dice roll is not random at all. Computer players frequently roll 7's and steal your items. 2. A.I. Does not trade with you... ever... come on guys, this game only works if you can trade, and the players reject you every time. For everything... I even offered all my cards for one single item out of frustration, and they rejected it. But they'll initiate trades with you, usually complete crap offered in multiple offerings which you can repeatedly reject which leads me to problem... 3. How the heck can the AI offer a trade and roll a 7 or initiate robber and steal the card every time. I'm not joking, multiple times the AI gets my card anyway... 4. AI knows how to beat you in the win every time... you got the longest road... not for long... largest army? They'll take it back. Got great placements? They'll block them over and over. I mean, I know it's a computer, but it's ridiculously hard and seems to get the 7s when you least want them too... Long story short, I'm deleting the App... it's not even fun anymore. If I could initiate a refund, I would.

App has major glitches, and sound problems on iPad Pro 10.5 inch. I have experienced a long-standing glitch on this app for the last two years. When I click the button to purchase a development card, the development card screen shows me which resources it takes to purchase it, not how many cards are left on the stack as it once had done. The only clue I have as to how many development cards are left, is when I am rudely told "There are no more development cards", when I try to purchase one and after I have carefully traded to get the resources to buy a card. Several updates from the developer have failed to repair this situation. BTW, I am running the latest version of iOS 10, just a couple of weeks here before the big September 2017 iPhone announcement. Moreover, now that I have upgraded my iPad Pro 9.7 to an iPad Pro 10.5, all sound and music has disappeared from the app. The app is now totally silent no matter which settings I change. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, to no avail.

Frustrating … Please fix the AI bias. I can’t agree more with the reviews that the game isn’t fun. I am a fan of the board version, however my strategy for this game has to be to build on the numbers that the computer builds. Otherwise, my hex numbers will not roll. The other reviewers have accurately described how the computer will be enabled to get development cards as well as selectively place the robber on your hex … no matter how far ahead the others might be. At the beginning, this is not the case, however as soon as you begin to build, you are targeted. It is a disappointment. I also agree with the observations of the glitches. If a game goes too long, the development card and build selection/functionality disappears.

Crashes but I love the game. Catan hasn’t been updated in two years. Since then, there has been multiple IOS updates which may be causing the crashing issue. Please update! In addition to some of the other comments, you can’t see if the opponents have the 5th level of all the city improvements. TIP: You can try trading someone and then you can see what level they are on. Also, if you go to build a ship, you can’t change your mind like you can on the roads. I would also love to see the ability to customize your character and possibly add in challenges and other fun online perks like other mobile games. Overall, I love this game despite the crashing.

No clue what the complaining is about with the dice.. There are some real simpletons reviewing this game who apparently don't know how dice work. I've played this game multiple times, and the dice come up about how you would expect. You do understand that 7 is the most likely roll, correct?!?! I've had no problems with this app, and I'm a huge Catan fan. All of the expansions for $10 seems reasonable. Edited and dropped 2 stars. In playing the campaign, if you lose a scenario and replay it, the board is EXACTLY THE SAME. Same number and resource placement, and same fog island set up. WHY?!?!? Isn't the entire point of Catan that you get a different board every game? HUGE oversight in this game. Bad job from programming.

Catan expansion. The game is very enjoyable. Basic Catan works fine. It's fair and fun and only $4. I also bought the expansion. It used to be a bit glitchy but after implementing settings suggested by the developer (see below) it rarely gives me problems. Occasionally, you'll need to reload the game and generally it will put you back at the same spot. (I use a 1st generation iPad mini.) I can tell from the aggregate dice rolls that the randomization is fair. Also, the AI players generally attack the points leader and whomever shares the hex. In my initial review, I complained about some of the glitches I was encountering. The developer reached out to me and suggested I change the animation speed to ultra and turn the auto zoom off. I appreciate their response and it was helpful.

Love playing it. Updated - completely wiped and reset my iPad. Catan works like a charm now. Not sure why. -------------------- Have not played online multiplayer yet but play against the AI at least once a day. It is buggy in that sometime during the game (every single game), the card interface goes blank. Fortunately you can save your game, totally close the app and restart to bring it back. It also affects endgame when looking at stats. I still enjoy the game enough to keep at it. It really is a 5-star game if the bugs were not there.

Exercise in frustration, terrible dice randomization. I am an avid fan of the board game and have played online versions. Was really excited to get this app, but after playing dozens of games for two days, it's just not fun because the 7 comes up with nearly every round. It takes forever to build anything. I am still winning a fair amount of times, but it's ridiculous to have 7 come up this frequently. More than a few times I've had to wait 4-5 turns to buy a single item, even though I have plenty of good spots (6,8,9,10,5) because my resources are stolen two turns in a row because both AI opponents roll sevens, sometimes twice in a row. Programming a random dice roll should not be this hard! There are plenty of stand alone apps that do this. I am using the most current app too. ( my son told me the prior version had poor reviews, but I was hoping upgrading would fix the problem). It's too bad because it is otherwise a very nice game with good instructions. If dice randomization were fixed would easily be one of my favorites.

Mostly good. Good game, and the app is worth the price. The sound doesn’t work on my iPad, which is too bad because the music is well produced, and I see that people complained of the same problem 4 years ago. I guess an update will not fix it then. 😕 On my iPhone, it keeps zooming in with each new dice roll and it moves around so much it hurts my eyes and gives me whiplash. I wish I could prevent it from constantly zooming in and moving around. It makes it pretty much unusable on my phone. I also wish this game showed the dots under the numbers during the set up phase. And I wish it would show the number of the tile that the robber sits on.

Easy and fun to play. Elegant in its simplistic, intuitive design, Catan online has been a fun way to connect with friends and family during the COVID-19 pandemic quarantines. For one game, I played with my cousins in Florida, Hawaii and Illinois. We also did a 4-way call so we could talk while we played. I wish there was a way to talk in the app like that tho. I also bought the expansion pack, thinking it allowed 6 players instead of just four. Sadly, it doesn't. Lastly, regularly playing the computer players has helped me improve my skills for playing the online and board game. Love it!

Pretty Good… but. So My husband and I love Catan and love the fact that we can play a game without having to get our huge board out. However, this app does not let you play with 2 players, you only have the scenarios to play, there is no design a board feature, you can’t look at any of your stuff when it is not your turn, there is no “undo” button, and lastly, it does occasionally have a glitch, but not very often. Overall it is really nice and we enjoy it. These are just the couple issues we have confronted over the last several years of playing.

Love the game but.... There were a few occasional crashes and glitches, particularly if you touch the screen and move or resize the map, you have to exit and save the game then reload in order to see or play your development cards. However, after purchasing the expansions, the crashes are magnified where the game needs to be saved and reloaded twice each time you inadvertently touch the screen to see something, move the robber, place the merchant, or swap numbers. It's extremely annoying and is a significant detractor from play. I'd give the app 5 stars, but it's been months with no fix and today's update fixed none of my bugs.

Very bad, don't waste your money!. I don't see why this euro game is so popular. Its just that these euro games get branded as elitist. Give me Yahtzee any day. It's basically a craps game, playing the odds. I don't like gambling, too hard to win. You have to pick your initial settlement wisely with numbers that have a higher probability of being thrown like 5,6,8, 9 as a last option. I've been in one game where 3 was never thrown, grant it I had two settlements there and it was against the computer AI players. And anytime I had a good amount of resources built up, some monopoly card or robber would take everything. The robber would sit on my tile/ settlements forever, while the other players would never have the robber for more than one roll. Anytime I bought a development card I would only get the half useless knight card. The AI would players would get the victory or the cards giving two roads or two resources. I have the board game, but don't have anyone that will play it. I'll probably resell it since I hate this game with a passion from my experience with this app. Basically I never have a chance with this crummy gambling game.

Glitches. I have played about 12 games and have noticed a pattern. Once you appear to get ahead in points, then the dice throws are never in your favor. One or two games you can understand , but when the dice rolls a 4 and 11 for 9 throws and all the AI players get resources but you don’t, then you realize something is off. The robber appears much more in the game and you are robbed more often than anyone, even it if you have no cards to give. Then if you happen to have the chance to win, the board freezes up on me and there is nothing I can do but restart my device. This has happened in about 5 of the 12 games. In a face to face game you can hear what other players are looking for in resources and whether they get them or not, but in this game you do not get that knowledge. Also development cards are very few, not like in a real game. Even writing this review all nicknames I wrote were taken!! Examples: abc, xxxxx, frustrated, Nick, Gail, click here etc. It did not like two stars. I have increased it to 3 to see if I can post this review.

Fun but excessively buggy and no turn time limits for online play. I like the gameplay and the AI is quite good...however, the game crashes frequently when trying to start or end games. Lately, it crashes every time I finish or win scenario 4 in the cities and knights campaign and when I get back in it does not record my win or let me move on the next scenario. This has happened multiple times and seems permanent (until the bug is fixed in an update). Very frustrating. I play the game far less now as a result. Also, playing online against peers is intolerable due to no ability to set time limits per turn for each player. Players often take way too long, at least for someone like me who prefers to play quickly.

A decent attempt. I like that there are different versions to play and for the most part they work well. However, the reason I can’t give more stars is because every single game eventually fails after a certain number of turns. I haven’t figured out exactly how many, but the menus fail, the stats disappear, and you can’t build ANYTHING. It’s difficult to win the game when you can’t build even when you haven’t maxed out your settlements, roads, ships, or cities. First the background of the menu goes away and then over a couple more turns the entire functionality goes. If it weren’t for this I would love it, as it is I just quit the game and start over once it happens.

Good when it works. As of January 2019 there has not been an update for 6 months. I do not recommend installing it until a new release has been made to address the bugs that impede game play. Nothing is more frustrating than to be enjoying a game and then be forced to quit in the middle of game play. Others have reported that the game Locks up. In my case it seems the game has not locked up but the touch screen will not accept inputs. In one case I go to try and build a road. The route I want to build is highlighted as acceptable, but I cannot select it. Of the time 8 available routes I can select 5, but not select the other 3. If I try to click the cancel “X” to exit the build screen nothing happens. I confirmed via other apps that my touch screen is functioning properly.

Great game, crashes a lot on my new iPad. I have loved this game since I first started playing the physical board game version shortly after it came out. The bots are a reasonable challenge, with a satisfying win ratio. They do a couple of stupid things (like blocking two tracks of connecting road, when only one block is needed.) Their programming is a bit too predictable sometimes: they won’t trade with the human on the human’s turn once the human gets over 6 points, no matter how good the deal. They will prefer to steal from other bots with similar point levels until the human gets over 6 points, and then will prefer to steal from the human. Things like that. Nevertheless, the bots are a reasonable challenge, and the dice aren’t obviously loaded (they just seem that way!) Main issue: the app keeps crashing ever since I upgraded to an iPad 10th Gen from my very old iPad. Annoying to have to keep restarting. Looking for a bug fix! I have updated to the newest version on both the iOS and the Catan HD software.

Love the game - App Needs Work. I love the game, but there are several things that drive me crazy! First off, the app is glitchy (I’m on an iPad) and it may crash several times during a game. You can get back in, but the last roll may not take and it’ll roll again. Sometimes it crashes when a trade is offered. And it’ll do it over and over and over like it’s in a loop. I play against the computer - I rarely play other players online. Another area I don’t like is that the AI just isn’t that good. I have it on the hardest setting and the computer will put a road segment into a dead end where it can’t go any further, can’t build and isn’t blocking another player from doing something - it’s just a stupid play. The computer will also offer a trade - nobody accepts it, so it trades in resources, gets what it needs and wins the game. In that scenario, don’t offer the trade with other players, just trade it in and win the game. I’m nit picking with the issues with the AI, but the crashes are a real issue. I reached out on Facebook to the support team and was told they were working with Apple on the issue. That was several months ago. I expect better support for an app you have to pay for.

My favorite game but definitely flaws. This is by far my favorite game, but there is some major issues that I don’t know why haven’t been fixed. I’ve had the app for over 5 years now. I play against the computer most of the time, and you can expect your game to be interrupted halfway through with the commodity cards disappearing so you can’t see what you have. You can exit the game and reopen the app and continue where you left off, but still annoying, and it’s guaranteed to happen every game you play. They lose a star for that. Next issue as stated in previous comments is yes, if you happen to be ahead of the computer, it is by far in favor of the computer in so many ways including the dice rolls. They will hit the computer numbers and stay away from your number and it’s not even subtle. They lose another star for that. The other star lost for me is again, how long this app has been out and have never attempted to update it or fix the obvious issues is pretty poor in my opinion. I still love it though and have managed to work around the issues that look like they’re always going to be there! 2/5 stars from me

Disappointed. I love the board game and was excited to play online. Sadly, the online version does not live up to my expectations. First, the seven comes up an inordinate amount of times. I understand that even in the board game there are times the seven comes up a lot, but I have played the online version many times and it happens consistenly. Second, there have been several times where the same numbers continue to get rolled while others NEVER come up. Again, I know this can happen on occasion, but this seems to be more the rule than the exception. There have been times I can go half the game with barely getting a resource card. Finally, there seems to be some bugs that need to be resolved, especially when it comes to trading. Too often it seems to go offline during a trade offer. It always resolves itself but can take up to several minutes to do so. All in all, I find playing the online version of Catan to be more frustrating thatn enjoyable. At $4.99 I would expect more.

Horribly Flawed. I love this game, but the app is horribly flawed. It crashed ALL THE TIME. I never complete a game without at least one crash, generally 3-4 crashes per game. AND NOW, they require you to sign in with every return to the game, where previously it would bring in your user name and password. THE most annoying part is finding a game you want to play. You select you want an online version and then it randomly puts you into a game. Well with all the previous crashing going on, often times these games are crashed games and the players that are represented are no longer in the game. So you just sit and sit and sit. It does not time out the players when trying to start a game. In addition, you have no ability to select the game you want to play. There are quite a few options, and so it can take me 5-10 minutes just to find a game I want, with being presented with Crashed Games and Games that are unknown to me.

Freeze Issues. UPDATE: Got around freeze by dragging scrren up so lower half is in middle of page before placing road or settlement. However, my player has had 5 sevens in a row in last 4 games and gone several plays without a card even with Stack mode. Deleting app, will check back for updates in future. Hopefully dice will be a little more even with AI players and will consider again. Orig: Love this game with other player, trouble with lower half of screen freezing when placing roads nearly every game. Please get this fixed, also games is so slanted towards AI players getting to take double cards, always seem to have Knight cards and get 7's after you decline a trade, they get your card anyways. Hope the developers get the freeze issue fixed

iPad Problem Work-Around. When I first started playing, I was unable to select anything along the bottom of the island, whether it was a road, a settlement, or a city, and could not figure out a solution. I experimented with resizing the screen by pinch and zoom, and I still couldn’t select along the bottom. I tried touching and moving the screen around and stumbled onto a solution — touch and move the screen as far to the top as possible, where half the island is off the top and the bottom is mostly water, then I am able to select anything along the bottom. Support needs to come up with a fix for this please.

Love the game don’t like the app. I’m a huge Catan fan and have really gotten into it with my friends. However the app is not so friendly to use and for us to play with one another or to play with other good catan players. My app will kick me out of the game st least once every time I play. The biggest thing I wish they would fix is adding a chat to the game. Why can’t we communicate with other players? And then when I want to invite someone to play I can only send an invite if they are online. If they are in the middle of a game or offline you can’t just send a request. It seems very simple I hope they can add something like this just like every other video game has

From marginal to worse. The app crashes all the time. You have to login with user ID and password, not only when you open the app to play the game, but every time it crashes, which happens a lot. You never used to have to use your user ID and password to login. Now you do, which is annoying as heck. Addicting game, but really wish I would have learned a different good Catan online game, and not bothered with this one. Don’t make the same mistake unless developers fix these issues. Need to add a chat feature. Need to add a timer to keep game moving. Players should be rated on games completed/times they bailed early.

Listen Up!. Firstly, we all would agree the graphics are awesome. The gameplay is smooth, and animations flow well. Second, while I experienced frustrations with the horrible randomization of rolls, I understand the necessity from an AI standpoint. This is easily overcome by embracing the limitations of the game. All you have to do is place settlements on numbers that are shared with your AI opponents, then their cheated benefits are yours as well. Third, there is a lot of customization within the game which is great. One big drawback: it is all but impractical to play with 2 people because you are constantly promoted to "hand off." It is easy enough to read the dialogs Nd see which players turn it is. We don't need 10 pop ups every time someone wants to trade. At a minimum you should be able to turn this off in settings. I have yet to encounter a crash or bug since I have updated my iPad OS and the game.

Dice bias is real, but game still fun. I've had this app a while and just opened it back up. It runs great, but I just played five games in a row against the easiest AI's and every single game, the dice throws would be well shuffled until: whenever I get within about 4VPs of winning, all 3 AI opponents start rolling sevens EVERY TURN, they only block me,even if other AIs have the same VPs as I do, and steal every last one of my resources so it is literally impossible to progress. They also refuse to trade with me in mid/late game despite trading the same resources with other AIs EVEN if the other AI has more points than me. "Stack" and "stack 5" options don't seem to stop this from happening. The constant sevens being used only against me makes me not want to reopen the app to play again.

Great Game, But Some Gameplay Issues. Let me start out by saying I play this constantly. I really enjoy this game, and even with the bugs, it works well enough to give me my Catan fix. Yeah, icons disappear. You just have to force-close the game and restart it, then choose to resume your game (I don't play multiplayer, so this works for me.) What IS really frustrating are the cards. Seeing the Deserter show up three or four times in one game, or Saboteur three or four times is unrealistic. I don't think there's an actual "stack" of cards in memory -- I'd guess they just have a randomized that picks a card from all the cards available. That gets frustrating after a bit.

Good game but buggy and rigged. Love Catan. Such a fun game! For the most part I like this app. The gameplay is identical to the board game, the graphics are decent. There are different AI characters to play against with different skill sets. The game, however, seems to be rigged a little bit. For example, in one game my best resources were in 6 and 8 tiles yet those numbers never seemed to be rolled. Instead, 10 and 9 (which are statistically much less likely) came up over and over. The robber seems to be rolled by all the AI players and not me, so resources are always blocked. It’s buggy, too. Occasionally I get a new message upon startup about privacy rules and then I hit the “ok” button and it’s lost all the data on the AI players I selected. It crashes frequently, too, on my iPad Pro and iPad Mini. It would be a better game if the implementation were better.

Robber and subsequent roll is a load of crap. This app has taken the fun out of Catan. It is so frustrating when playing the computer. Every single time I’m one point or more ahead, they roll the robber every 2 to 3 rolls, and after they place the robber on one of my #6 or #8 tiles, that exact number is rolled multiple times before I’m eventually lucky enough to either have a knight card or roll the robber myself. I also don’t believe the computer doesn’t know when I have a victory point card because when I should be showing fewer points than one of the other players, they still constantly put the robber on my tile and steal from me. I tried signing up to play online, and they said, “wait for a confirmation email” which I never received, and when I tried to create the account again it gave me an error saying the email address was already in use. I checked all junk folders and there was nothing there. I wish I could get my money back, I hate this app so bad.

Fun.. when it works.. Dice Randomization blows - stack 5 fixes some of it, but when you go around the table 3 times and the same 3 numbers come up all 9 - 12 times, there's a problem. Occasionally the app will lose all text, forcing you to crash the app (see final note on the problem with this). Occasionally the app will become unresponsive to taps - e.g. Play road building, select the ship (for example), but the green check mark won't actually let you click it. The WORST issue is the reconnecting to game issue. I can appreciate crashing the app to get things to work again. But when I do that, greater than 50% of the time, it doesn't reconnect me to the game. This is the by far the worst issue. I'd put up with the rest (even the bad dice), if it would ALWAYS reconnect me. Finally, feature-wise, it would be nice for an improved online game matching system (the current one is a joke) - I would love to exclude games outside of C&K for example. Blacklist doesn't work at all. And why do I have to leave the online area every time need to find a new game? So dumb. All that said, when I do actually get the play AND complete an entire game - win or lose, it's usually quite fun. Update: Lowering to 2 stars - gesture control for selecting roads, the robber, etc - fails every game. I'm lucky if I finish 1 out of 20 games at this point. Basically unplayable.

App plays too much in it’s favor. This wasn’t so bad before the update, but once you get ahead the app clearly rolls in its favor, to the point where it’s obvious and clearly not random. For example, if one computer opponent tries to trade for wheat with me and i don’t trade the app will roll for wheat on that opponents hex number next roll. I don’t play it any more because of this. Have been trying to play it over this Christmas break but its to the point where its so obvious its a joke. Also, have to exit out of the app and restart it or it crashes and it will say the computer won after 18 points even though I have set to 21 points.

Fun but glitchy. I enjoy playing the game now that I have figured out some of the issues. First of all the dice roll is not random. If you choose a 6 or 8, make sure you have a settlement on each of the numbers otherwise your number will not be rolled very often. Also, the less frequent numbers seem to be rolled much more to benefit the computer. Next, the game will crash all the time. It’s not so bad as you can quickly reopen the app and resume playing. Lastly, the development cards will disappear or the graphics in building section will be off. The fix for this is to close out the game and reopen it. Also, if a 7 is rolled on your turn, if you close the game and come back in, you can mostly get a different dice roll - just make sure you don’t click on anything for the computer to save.

Leavers. There are so many inconsiderate leavers when playing online. There absolutely needs to be a system implemented where you can see, next to the avatar on someone, their “sportsmanship rank” or something along those lines, which indicates how often they just leave matches after the initial settlement placements. Not the app’s problem, but it’s very frustrating and people need to be held accountable, suspended or banned if they do this over 50 percent of the time. Online is unplayable most of the time because of this, but this solution above would likely fix it. Also, when someone leaves a game and then rejoins, there is a frustrating glitch where you press the ready button and then it kind of “grays out” and you can’t press it again and confirm you are ready so there’s nothing you can do at that point because the button just stops working. This version if much more visually pleasing than the other one, and if you fixed these issues it would be the better app.

An embarrassment. Pass this one by. Gets hung up and crashes repeatedly. Sketchy directions for the noob player with many gaps in describing parts of the game. No explanation of legend in the corner of each the screen. No log of moves to check if you missed the action. Text is exceedingly small, for example, you can't distinguish between the x or check mark for each character when getting responses on bids. Colors are washed out so you can't tell the difference between blue, green and yellow game pieces. Horrible touch accuracy when trying to select settlements or roads. They have taken a great game and ruined the play by their lack of detailed execution. Kind of ironic for a plan-ahead strategy game. USM games and its staff should be embarrassed by this release. They could easily assess gaps and refine it, but they won't. Too much money to be made with this poor release with limited investment.

Slow start with glitches, but I see real possibilities!. I've had it on my device for a couple of months. It is NOT intuitive and the instructions are not clear. That being said, my brother-in-law was playing it yesterday, and I was able to watch and picked up pretty fast. He expressed the same frustration when he was learning the electronic version, but he hung in there to figure it out. Part of the trouble with learning by doing is how often it freezes up and does not react as expected! Once these quirks get corrected, my review is likely to shot up a star. The final star could come once I figure out how to find folks I know who enjoy the game! I do plan on getting comfortable playing with the computer before I jump out to the cyber world! One warning I did receive is that for the purchased boards, you don't know what your getting till you have already purchased it. One free run through would be nice so people can look before they leap! Thanks for creating Catan! I think it will be my next addiction!

Used to be great. This used to be great but it crashes constantly to the point of frustration and unplayablity. The AI can be massively unbalanced. Used to enjoy it so much but I think it is time to move on

Boring. Played the AI all day without a chance of winning. The AI trades continuously with other AI but will not trade with you unless it is for a resource you absolutely cannot trade. The game will avoid rolling dice results that give you resources and greatly favours dice results that give only the AI players resources. Turn after turn you will sit watching the game roll into another inevitable AI win with nothing to do but hit end turn button.

Bored... let’s shake it up!. I play three games with breakfast whilst on my holidays. Even though I select ‘variable’ board I have to play the same scenario several times until I am allowed a different option. Please, why can’t ‘variable’ actually be ‘variable?

Glitchy app, could use some fixes.. I love the game but the app presents several user interface problems: like other reviews have highlighted, info in the dialogue box tends to disappear when you have advanced a fair bit in the game. If you exit the game, you’re sometimes unable to get back in. It also tends to crash or hang midway even though I’m using a new iPad and the updated app. Secondly, I wish it viewing some of the other options while other players are taking their turns are allowed, eg. dice stats, your development cards, game info. Thirdly, the bots are programmed to brutally target the player with the most victory points to sabotage or steal from. It’ll be better if this was randomised. If these can be looked at and fixed, the app would be perfect!

Great game. I really enjoy Catan and love how this app gives you access to many of the titles. After having spent a fortune on the board games it’s great to have an option where I can play as much as I like (which is a lot!). Sure there are the odd glitches, but a much better option than paying heaps again for Catan Universe.

iPad version doesn’t work on iPhone or vice versa. Love this game and bought expansion packs too however was very disappointed when I realised it doesn’t work on my iPhone. To play the game on the phone I’d have to pay twice ...

Great game but has quite a few bugs.. A bit frustrating when it crashes a few times during a game. But I still enjoy playing

Buggy and overpriced. For the price, this is sadly not worth it. Love Catan, have been playing it for decades. But first up, this version ONLY works on your iPad and cannot be used on your iPhone. Sad. Secondly for an app at this price and for only one appliance, having it crash at least once during every game of Catan is just not good enough. The good news is the app autosaves and you don’t lose progress, but you still have to restart the app and reload the game. Game can also get stuck in some graphical glitches where certain parts of the screen are not shown, or you can’t open a sub menu anymore. Only “fix” that I have found is to close the app and reload. Not good enough overall in its current version. Lots of the extra scenarios are locked behind a paywall too.

Cannot be played with friends online. From what I can tell you can only pay with AI. I expected to be able to play with friends online, like monopoly, but had to refund the app.

Needs more updates but great fun!. Game is awesome however extremely buggy rendering text almost every game to the point of being unplayable!

I have some queries. I love Catan and this app certainly does it justice with a great interface and aesthetic and I can spend hours playing game after game. However such repetition has has provided an insight into some mechanics of the game that I'm not too keen on. Firstly, the 'randomly generated' board obviously has some rules about such as that the 2 and 12 hexes are always along the coast and you'll never find situations such as two very productive wheat hexes with a wheat port between them which I dislike because situations like that only add to the excitement. Also the AI's in custom game are incredibly predictable and will do things like never place a starting settlement not around 3 hexes and never put the robber on one of your hexes until you've built a settlement/city. Overall though I would absolutely recommend this app and these are only minor qualms with its operation. (Also on iPad 4 I can't play online because the app crashes whenever I try and I'm not sure whether that's the app's fault or just my hardware limitations but if it's the app then pls sort that right out)

Attention developer. I absolutely love the game, BUT... Unfortunately it continues to crash, in multiplayer, single player, campaigns, losing game information half way through a game, completing a campaign and not recognising that I have completed and returning to iPad home screen. I have followed through with all suggestions into faulting crashes, checking ram size, deleting and re-downloading the app, deleting almost all my other apps, ect. Still nothing has worked. Either the app needs to be fixed, or start refunding peoples money. I would prefer if the game is fixed, as it’s a fantastic game to play. I know I’m not the only one out there thinking and same thing.

Constant crashing on otherwise good game. I’ve used this app on my ipad for many years and been happy with it. I recently bought a new ipad and downloaded Catan. The app keeps crashing, often 5-6 times per game. I’ve tried reinstalling the app but it continues to crash. My older ipad is also running the app with no problems. The developer needs to read the reviews and note how many people have alerted them to the crashing issue, and update the app with a fix. I’d give a much better star rating if they did. Catan is my favourite game app but constant crashing is hugely disappointing.

Can’t disable add ons. Thought I’d save money by purchasing all add ons but there’s no way to turn them off which is incredibly frustrating. I don’t like playing C&K. Also because most ppl are tight asses, almost impossible to play seafarers as minimal ppl online. Great if you just want to play classic game tho.

Bug and dice favours computer players. I get crashed in the middle of the games. And also dice is always favouring the computer players. No a good set up for a game that consumed so much time.

So many bugs and crashes. Ever since the new iOS update, the app has been crashing mid-game. Lots of connectivity bugs and issues with resources not being allocated after a roll. Please give us an update.

A bit buggy but still great. Fabulous fun true to the board game I love it

Great game, tonnes of bugs. I’m kind of blown away how much this app wanted a review given how buggy it is, but it’s solid nonetheless. It annoys me that the other variants (Seafarers etc) cost even more, but you’ll get your money’s worth.

App keeps crashing. An amazing game that has been completely neglected by the developers. It hasn’t had an update in over 2 years, and now it crashes constantly making it unplayable.

Good, but…. Love Catan, but the fact you pay for this app and the whole campaign is completely locked (until you in-app purchase more) is a let down. Also the seperate iPad and iPhone version is a bit greedy

Good game but lots of bugs for the price. This is a great game but there are lots of bugs that haven't been fixed despite being in there for at least a year. For example when you are playing the dialogue boxes rendering at some point (almost every game) so you cant read the information and you cant see your cards. You exit to main menu and select continue game, then it works again. Also it is a bit inclined to crash when you open it. Despite the programming errors, this game is a lot of fun particularly when you have lots of time to kill like on a flight. The difficulty level of the AI players seems about right For me (usually, some of them are a bit easy but you can select the harder ones manually)

Good App but Development Cards Disappear. Overall very good app but one very frustrating bug is that Development Cards screen is invisible about halfway through any games. Would also be great to see some stats at the end of the game.

Great game. I'm a big fan of the board game, and this is a great adaptation. However, bugs with the development cards disappearing are really annoying. Please fix this!

Good, but..... I enjoy this, and would love to play online, but can never get it to work; when you request a password reset, an email never comes - disappointing!

Good game but glitches and interface annoy.. The Game is fun but the interface has glitch where interface elements like the development cards, go invisible so you cant use them (you can if you blindly tap at the screen), because you can't see your year of plenty card to use it. The trading interface could be rethought to make it more intuitive. When you are tired and playing just one more game, the trading interface is such a chore to comprehend who wants what now.

Good game but..... Love the game but it is slow and glitches all the time Not enough levels or interface. Game concept is close to board version so good

Good fun. Faithful to the game play. Certain versions have bugs causing it to lock up. A pain. Still great to be able to play when no ones around. Don't enjoy how the bots stack the dice if you get too far ahead.

A decent game, spoiled by the dice roll. I can’t recommend this game. The dice rolls are consistently unfavourable. I’m not sure why it’s been made that way. You can check the statistics which also demonstrate the dice consistently favours the AI player. It really spoils the game for me.

Don’t waste your money. This is the worst version of Catan online, every single time I have played the bot has won with 2 or 3 victory points and this is despite there not being the normal amount of development cards available . Definitely rigged.

Great game. I am a simple person, i just play a particular scenario once or twice a day to pass time, not sure about glitches as i never had them, but then i never pay or play campaign mode so not sure what other reviewers meant. So am happy but my needs are simple. Great game.

Crashes mid game. I love this game and it’s worth th price, please make more like this, however it does glitch a lot, Since recent update game just kept crashing, when it’s half way through game on an Ai player it just stops, even saving game and coming back doesn’t make it work, couldn't trade or do anything. Please fix this, so I can enjoy how it used to be

Predictable. There’s a lot of predictability to this game. At the start the avatars never put their towns on the edge. And when I’m on 9 points none of them will trade anymore. It would be prefect if it was less predictable. I still love it.

Crashes too often. I love playing this game but what is really annoying how often it crashes for no obvious reason. This really needs to be fixed. Also why can’t the program remember the team of players, both my playing avatar and the computer opponents I choose? It is stupid to have to reset them every time

Brilliant game, terrible AI. Love this game, interesting campaign mode, lots of challenges, but the AI is terrible. If you happen to be more than 1 or 2 points ahead the AI will roll the robber multiple times (often 10 - 14 times!!!) in a row targeting you to drain your resources while they all overtake your score. You will sit for 4-5 rounds with nothing to do and zero resources. Disheartening and statistically unlikely rolls. Ruins an otherwise brilliantly made and interesting game!

Bugs and crashes. Don’t buy this or the expansion until the consistent crashes and connection issues are fixed.

Catan is perfect for isolation. I’ve had a long history of never being able play games with other people..... my iPad and these Apps changed all that for the better. After learning what all the symbols mean, it’s a fun and easy interface that makes the hours fly by. It would be a great trainer for tactical strategies for actual board gamers.

Enjoyable but buggy. The game is fun but it often gets stuck when you're trying to place a settlement or ship. Sometimes randomly tapping around the area will work, but sometimes you just have to restart the game.

Good but buggy. This is a fine fun game but there are lots of little bugs that happen regularly in the game such as: Game will close Cards stop appearing Not letting you move the ship or road Since this is a paid app the developers should fix this yet they don’t seem to care.

It’s Catan… with some bugs. Good recreation of the game. AI is a bit stupid but it’s fine. The bugs however are not; this game crashes a lot. It’s such a simple game as well, so after all this time you’d have to conclude the dev just doesn’t care

Good but buggy. Crashes constantly.

Great game - crashes a lot.. Trying multiplayer is slow and painful. Connecting takes ages and then drops out mid match. Annoying for the cost the server isn’t up to it. Otherwise it’s good.

Worth it.. Great game and great app. Could benefit from better rules particularly for the expansion game modes (eg knights and cities)- its a bit confusing as a newbie. The ability to hide some game pop ups (eg trade screen) so as to review your build costs or other player positions might be a future improvement, or a recall feature for player actions (eg playing a development card)- these disappear fairly quickly during the gameplay. Any chance for other music? Overall worth the purchase price and very well executed app version of a classic board game.

Good game - needs an iPadOS 16.1 update please. This is an enjoyable game to play with great replay value. However it has started regularly crashing under the latest iPadOS 16.1 and needs an updated release. While updating it would be great if the multiplayer AI could be fixed so that it does not sometimes hang on selecting a resource type when gold is rolled.

Would be great but too many bugs. Bug 1. When playing, the game randomly crashes. During campaigns it’s happens whenever you reject too many trade offers, online or multiplayer, it’s random Bug 2. Randomly, all the data will disappear from cards, cost of purchases etc. comes back with restart but eventually happens again. iPad Pro so not exactly a low end device

Ok. Needs improvement. It’s a good game, but there are a lot of funny things, the random players get lost and confused when they have a lot of commodities. But it’s better than no Catan.

Constant crashing kills my vibe. I had no problems til about a month ago and now the game crashes constantly. It makes me not want to play anymore.

Best of all the Catan options out there.. I’ve had this app for several years now and paid for the seafarers and cities and knights expansions. I’m an avid fan of the board game the app is based on and play it often. When it comes to online gaming, this is the best option by far. Yes, occasionally it can be a little glitchy. But it’s very occasionally! My friends and I often find that you can just log off and come back in with little fuss. We play using this app almost every single day. I’ve also downloaded Catan Universe. It’s horrible! Graphics is terrible, interface is ugly and half the time you can’t tell what is happening. Also very hard to use, can’t choose player colour. The list goes on. It does seem to allow 6 players though. As far as I can see that is it’s only advantage. I’ve only used Colonist and my experience wasn’t great either. So basically, if you’re serious about Catan, this is the one!

Good game - lots of bugs. Unfortunately the game crashes frequently. Haven’t been able to play a single game without a random crash.

Buggy development cards. In game the development cards screen has a bug where you can't see the cards or what you are selecting. This delayed my win by several turns until I got points a different way. Would rate higher when the glitch is fixed.

Why does the game suddenly keep crashing?. I love Catan and have been playing it for years. However, when I've started to play it again this week, the game keeps crashing. This occurs in campaign mode and when I create a game. What is happening?

Constant crashes. Crashes multiple times a game. Get word with every update. Don’t think the developers are giving it much effort.

Great game but…. I love playing Cities and Knights. I DON’T love that I have to log into the app each game or that it crashes about once every other game. Please fix this!

Buyer Beware. Consider yourself warned. Catan is a great game but this app is not. I have never had a game crash so frequently. No exaggeration, every 3-5 minutes the app shuts off. Terrible experience. If I truly cared about the $6, I would demand a refund. You have all been warned

Could be so much better. Love the game, but hate the crashing. Time limit should be placed on turns to encourage reasonable pace of play. For some reason I suddenly have to log in every time I start the game - very annoying.

Too many crashes.. Come on guys…

Great game, crashed occasionally. Best version for iOS.

Crashing. Fix the game. Look at all the complaints about it crashing

Fun game but glitchy. I really enjoy this game i play it a lot. Mostly vs ai but it’s quite glitchy. It will crash/close pretty regularily and many times graphics in the menus will disappear. Like you want to build a road and the build menu comes up and half the icons are gone. If you quit and come back it solves it self. So not a huge deal , doesn’t happen every game but it happens often enough. Just a little annoying. Overall though i like the ui and the game play . I enjoy this version more than the worlds of catan or whater the other one is called. Its a much more enjoyable experience. It would be nice if they just fixed the bugs. If they fixed the bugs i’d give it 5 stars.

Great game but crashes frequently. I assume this game used to work properly but now it crashes during almost every game. It needs to be fixed if it’s still going to be sold.

Fun but constantly crashing. A great game to play … but it is constantly crashing.

Love the game but hate the support. We love this game but it freezes regularly … when we complained we were directed to the Catan Universal app which is not as good and won’t let us play together. Gave up on it

Garbage AI. This is impossible to play against the bots. No matter where you place your houses, the numbers that roll will not be yours. 11’s and 9’s will roll constantly if that’s where the bots are. No point in looking for high frequency numbers, they will not be rolled. Garbage app.

Paid for the upgraded version but it disappeared. I paid for the upgraded version, but I just got a new iPad and now it has only the original one showing...plus it keeps crashing

crashes all the time. when itcworks, its great fun…byt rarely works

Great game,but….. Constantly kicks me out. Wish they would ad more expansion to classic/ HD Catan. Not a fan of universe

Constantly crashing, Very frustrating. Good game but not stable

Constantly crashes. Constantly crashes and makes you sign back in

I want to rate it higher but. The add ones that I paid for (the new scenarios) don’t show up and the game crashes constantly.

Crashes CONSTANTLY. Unplayable

Unstable. The game keeps shutting down. I paid enough it should be working. I even asked for help, none to be had. Very disappointed

Hangs. Since updating to iPad OS 16.1, can’t complete a game without it quitting. Update - still crashing regularly. Update the crashing has got worse under IOS 17. Do the developers have ANY interest in fixing this? Can’t complete a game.

Good game, but freeze a lot. I have to restart a game multiple times to finish it.

My favourite game. I have been playing Catan HD for several years. I still pay a few times every day on my iPad. It crashes about twice an hour. I am able to restart the game in less than a minute. I love this game so much that I can live with that. I would purchase this game again if they fixed the crashing.

Continuous crashes. Love this game however it crashes ALL the time. For a paid game it’s just too bad. I wish I never bought it

Constantly Crashing. We love the game and have played for years. It used to crash every so often but lately we can’t even complete a game without it crashing. Also, it makes us log back in now each time the game crashes, sometimes multiple times. It’s very annoying. This would be a five star app if they could focus on fixing the bugs.

Shuts down often. Love the game but it keeps crashing, very annoying…

Game hangs when try to build a road in custom game.. Game hangs when try to build a road in custom game.

Terrible. I don’t know what they’ve done but this version crashes in the trade menu every time.

Continually crashes. The game would be great if it didn’t crash 5 times or more during a game.

Catan. Plein de bogues

Great game. Love the game but I do get booted off a lot

So much potential. This is a great game but unfortunately the app has a lot of problems.

Crash, crash, crash, crash. This should be called Crashtan. In a single game it crashes at least once and Maoist of the time 6-8 times. Sometimes the action menu on the fifth doesn’t appear and no matter what you do you have to quit the app and start a new game. TERRIBLE.

The app kicks me all the time. Love the game but the app kicks me (close) all the time have to restart the app 10 time in one game

Needs fixing. Keeps crashing

Great game - few glitches. Really enjoy this game. However the iPad app has some glitches. The icons disappear somethings so I need to close and reopen the app. Would be good if more updated and adding more feature or places to play. Been using the cities and knights and today finally purchased the seafarers cause I’m a little addicted this game lol.

Love the game…. But….. Best game ever. However it is crashing all the time now, kicks you out, and then you have to log back in. Wish they could fix this!

Crashes all the time. Was a good app but it crashes all the time now. Keeps asking me to agree to the terms over and over. Spending more time rebooting than playing. iPad 10th generation…… fix it or refund please.

Great I love playing against robots. This game is awesome I love being able to play whenever I want and I don’t need to convince my brother to play One thing that I would say is it will not let me login so I cannot play competitive but Catan is great online or off-line.

I paid $ for this ?. Have to re sign in anytime you do anything , and crashes all the time.

Fix the crashing. Log in not automatically anymore super annoying. Please fix update please please please

Settlers of Crash-tan. As much as I love the game, this app constantly crashes.

Waste of Money. Sadly the reviews down played how terrible this app is. I love the game but for me this app is unplayable due to freezing, glitches and brutal gameplay.

Crashes too often! Please fix!. Love this game, but crashes are frequent

Fun but……... Fun game, but it crashes, then crashes again…. It’s frustrating. So much so I quit playing….

Please fix!. I love this game, and would have rated 5 stars but I’m so sick of it crashing and just closing several times per game! Especially when it wasn’t a free app. Please fix before I give up playing entirely!

Constant crashes, won’t stay online. Useless for online play now. Wish they would fix it, it used to be great for playing with friends, but now hardly anyone can even successfully sign in, much less stay connected to the game.

Great game but does shuts down. I love this game and play all the time even if it kicks me out a lot. I go back in but after 3rd kick out I go to Hay Day

crash problem. i love this game but it is consistently crashing several times a game. please fix this problem!

Love the game but…….. Agreeing with all the other reviews. The software is not being updated with IOS updates on IPad, game keeps crashing. Is this going to get fixed????

Wonderful game but app could be better.. We really enjoy playing Settlers both on a board and on iPad. The iPad version is great for playing a quick game when we are waiting for something and don’t have a table available. The app is could use updating, I have the same comments other folks do that it loses the menu bar occasionally or becomes unplayable. But I can always force close the app and restart wherever we were in the game. Overall, well worth the purchase.

Enjoyable. I don’t agree with the previous complaints about the dice being stacked. Perhaps it’s a dissatisfaction with losing. Like any games that combine strategy, odds, and luck things don’t always go as expected. I’m betting the algorithm is based on actual dice odds. If the dice always fall as expected that would be boring. The challenge is adjusting your strategy.

Better than the reviews say. I read about a lot of problems, but my experience has been great. Wonder if problems are with older devices. The mechanics and gameplay are slick. I like that the game takes care of the tedious parts, like dice rolling, card collection, and trades. Trading does take some figuring out. Wish the instructions covered that better. Also, took a long time before I found out how to rob from a spot with multiple player settlements. Biggest complaint is not having a rating for those who complete games or leave early. So many people bail when losing. I’d like to avoid them. Having an numerical rank would be nice too, so you can play with better opponents. Finally, I hate that you can’t specify up front if it’s a three or four person game. Huge pain trying to wait for a fourth player.

Rigged. As a good player you rarely win. I usually play against 3 bots. They will constantly put the robber on my fields, even if I don't have any resources or if I am not in the lead. If the robber is on my number, magically the number will be rolled several times. Bots will get most Development cards. As soon as I am able to collect enough resources a 7 is rolled and I am robbed, often exactly when it is my turn. Immediately a bot will place the robber back on my field. Rare numbers will be rolled often, if the bots are on it. This game is rigged. Skills are useless.

Glitches take away the fun. I’ve been playing this game for a few years now. There’s a glitch when playing the Hidden Treasure one, where if the AI has a settlement on one of those islands that you can pick any resource, it locks up. Happens all the time! Sometimes the first time the AI is to get their resource and sometimes not until the second or third that number is rolled. Have to end the game. Was hoping an update would fix this. Other than that, love this game!

Glitches or cheating you pick!. The game is fun but the blatant cheating, glitches is very annoying. The computer players have cards without even it even possible to obtain from either by the roles or not being placed on a resource, yet they magically are able to constantly buy cards, build or make a road. In some instances they have magically made several parts of a road and placed a building there without even having enough resources to do so and by way of blocking you. It’s frustrating

Best on the App Store, but.... The game has some serious glitches that break the game. For example, having development cards and menu items turn invisible mid-game makes it incredibly frustrating to play the game. Please, developers, show the app some love and give it an update. And please don't try and phase everyone over to your other catan app because that game board layout is trash.

AVOID! Unplayable - constantly crashes. I love Catan and this would be a great adaptation if it weren’t for the constant crashes and complete lack of support from devs. It hasn’t been updated in years. The game deserves better. Don’t bother with this one - just get Catan Universe, which has it’s own problems but at least you can get through a game without it crashing every turn. I finally uninstalled it. Wish they’d fix the performance issues because this could be a great app. I’ll check back in a year or two and hopefully will change my review.

More glitches. Went down from 4-3 as more glitches. Would give it 5 star if it weren’t for glitches. The same problem with it not showing how many development cards are left. The feature of being able to see how many development cards are left to buy was on the first version and now with updates its not there anymore. Please fix. Now the glitch towards the middle-end of a game, also doesn’t allow one to see the development cards one has in ones hand to play them. By chance randomingly hitting the board your card comes up so you can play it. Just had another glitch. Tried to build a settlement on the only place available to me, with the proper amount of materials and it gets stuck. Had to restart another game. It sometimes says you can’t move a ship until the next turn as you just built a ship, when I hadn’t and the next turn it says the same thing.

Want to like it BUT.... I really want to like this app. I love the board game and even old clunky online or gaming versions of it, but this app leaves a lot to be desired. It often freezes. Lately I have not received cards or even initial settlement road during hiccups. At first I thought players were cheating maybe, but now I guess there are just too many game variables for an app to keep up with. Will I keep playing this version because it is super convenient on an iPad during times of insomnia? Yes. Will I throw my iPad across the room if this keeps up? Maybe

Computer cheats big time. The designers of this game can only increase difficulty by having computer cheat big time. Computer players will OFTEN exchange 4 resources for 1, and then buy a dev card, but their cards in hand only go down by cost of dev card. Really this tactic makes the game not at all fun because the computer players gain constant dev cards which they use to pummel you, even if you are no where near winning. You will often be hit with 3 knights a turn and more if they roll 7s

Great Game...So-So App. Been playing this board game for a while now, but just downloaded the app last week—and it really is just like the board game. HOWEVER...random, pointless, inexcusable glitches make this app not so fun. When you strive to collect (and hold onto) resources to build a vital road, then a glitch won’t let you click to build the road where you want it?! Extremely frustrating. This is disappointing & I really wish the app worked better. I’m surprised that the last update and “bug fix” was four months ago, especially with all these glitch complaints.

Catan keeps crashing. Lots of problems today. Game kept crashing on my iPad, and one of the games lost control of which player had his turn and had 2 players going at the same time. How is that even possible. Then, one of my best games (I had 4 of 5 docks, really good numbers and development cards), and the game crashed yet again, and I could not reconnect. I lost my game... And my friend thought he was a juke box hero, but I can’t prove him wrong now thanks to you!!! Please please please fix your app and server. If you need help, let me know. Thanks.

Worse than ten year old versions. I used to play a simple version of kings and knights more than a decade ago. They showed real cards. This made it easy to see how many resources you had and which. This version separates resources and gives a number for how many you hold. All of that on a background that takes up space that could have been utilized for something useful. Buttons for accept or reject are small and easy to overlook. In some cases they are even coded on top of already existing buttons. There is a major bug where the backgrounds for resource collection and progress card selection does not show up. Clicking on a progress card shows no text and only a accept or reject button. Again these buttons are small and easy to miss. Nearly all of these issues could be resolved by dropping the "background" that shows up for making choices and instead simply rendering the actual cards. Overall I would call this software flawed, poorly executed, and amateurish.

Campaign mode is broken. Individual games are fine, great even once you get used to the interface. The rolls are fair for single games... but enter the campaign mode and time after time you will get covered by the robber, then IMMEDIATELY after an opponent will roll your covered number. Devs! What’s wrong with just letting the rolls be random? No, I’m not hallucinating. The roll distribution graph in the game menu tells all. Why do this devs? It ruins the campaign mode. Not sure I will bother playing the campaign again, even though I enthusiastically paid for the expansions. Just... dumb. Dumb and broken. Why do this?

Don’t waste your time. Big Catan fan here, but this game constantly crashes and there is no sign that developers are going to address this issue. AI isn’t that great. Dice doesn’t seem to always be random, especially after playing so many times you can start seeing patterns, which has happened both in my favor and against. For example, sometimes in a 3-person game, one person will roll 7’s ~4 times in a row. This happens every 1 or 2 times for every 10 games I play. It’s too frustrating to play with all these problems, and there are better online options out there to play this game.

Catan. To start off with, this is my favorite board game, but the designers of the app really messed it up. It is very frustrating to play. The other players continuously take your resources on almost every turn. The game mostly rolls the other players numbers instead of a fair dice roll. The other players do more moves than they have resources. They always have Knight cards to use against you or monopoly cards when you have a lot of one resource. It is designed really really bad. You have to have a lot of patience to play this game.

Online is not working. This is a fun game with glitches. My wife and I have learned to put up with the glitches that affect the play. One of the most annoying glitches is the progress cards completely disappear once in awhile. To get them back we do not log out but simply turn the app off and then back on and log back in. This glitch does happen in the offline play as well. Now just as of today the login is not working to allow my wife and I to play against each other. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

The big tease. This game works like a champ until suddenly it stops showing the development cards and/or progress cards (in cities and knights expansions). It's bad in the base game, but it's crushing in C&K, where the progress cards are a much bigger part of the game. It's even worse than if the game kept crashing. At least with those you haven't played it for a half hour. This isn't a random glitch. It is consistent. EVERY time the progress or development deck drops to a certain level the display breaks for them. All you see is the check on x. You can't even see what cards you have. This has been a problem for a VERY long time. How long is it going to take to make this game playable.

Lazy programming ruined game. The game has features to rob / take resources from other players. Later versions of the game just went crazy with the number of “steals” and it takes away any fun from the game. The steals just make the game last longer without adding much strategy at all. In fact, the steals wipe out the ability to use use strategy in most cases. I played this game for years but I deleted the game today because the developers decided that more steals was a simple lazy way to make the game last longer - something this game did not need in any way. Lazy developers simply ruined yet another great game.

Freezes when robber is moved by me. Probably 7/8 times when the robber is moved by me, the game freezes with no way to move it forward other than closing out of the game entirely, then opening it again, and selecting continue... but unfortunately the game isn’t in the same location as when you stopped, and it is completely possible that the senecio that caused it to glitch won’t reappear, but if it does, you can be sure that it will freeze again. I’m more dissatisfied than satisfied with it.

Terrible UX Design. Not sure how to navigate something in the game? Good luck. Don’t quite remember a rule? Good luck. (You may find it buried in a long list of rules with the bare minimum information — that is if it even includes it.) Not sure where things are? Good luck. Half way through a game and want to build something? The interface will show half of what it used to, so good luck. What to unlock something? Don’t worry, there will be no guidance. Finally figured it out and want to play someone? Have fun waiting forever for people to make a move as there’s no time limit per turn. It’s like someone got 2/3 of the way through and just called it quits.

I win more than I lose.. I play against two of their bots. At the beginning they only use the 7’s and the robber against each other. You have better chances of winning if you both start as player 1 and set the game dice to stack 5. It also helps to choose opponents with low skills! I have experienced no glitches or IT issues at all. Try it this way and see.

Good but needs work. It’s a fun game and glad it can played solo. Noticed it crashes (just goes away) then you relaunch and continue. The dice rolls are not as random as you would expect. It feels like the game knows you will make the next play, rolls the dice, and plays accordingly to what it needs to block you. This happens frequently so, is there something not as random as you would expect in a dice game? Try it out and provide feedback. Maybe a developer will address this in time.

Not so much “AI” just “A”. The AI makes this game unplayable. As soon as you get any kind of tiny advantage on the board your computer opponents will mercilessly attack you. They will roll 2 or more 7s per round so that you constantly have 0 resources. While this is happening they apparently won’t notice the player with 5 cards in their hand (who would be viewed as a threat by intelligent opponents). After this goes on for a while you’ll get the inevitable “...has won with 4 victory card points”. You can win, you just need to play a really boring way by staying under the radar and collecting cards. It makes the game extremely one dimensional and boring. For a game that costs this much I expect better.

Good, could be so much better.. This game is very true to the original, and can be a lot of fun to play. However, a couple of problems – that would be easy to fix – really drag the game down. There is no audio, and a long timer, on trade offers. So often, one player well offer a trade, and another will ignore it for over a minute or more. Sounds and notifications should be added, and timers should be much shorter on trade offers and player actions to move the game along. If those improvements were made, I would rate this game five stars.

Game Glitches Often. The game itself is awesome and addicting but this online app is very glitchy. It will randomly exit out of the game multiple times per game. Sometimes it even messes up the dice roll bc if it glitches right after the roll it’ll roll again once you log back in. You also can’t see how many development cards are left because text covers where the number is. Some other glitches as well with sound and other stuff.

Something has changed. I have been playing this game for years. Just in the last few months, the game will just exit in the middle and you lose your game and have to start another. Also, from the beginning there is not enough bandwidth such that I can see my cards after about half of the game has been completed so you have no idea what your cards are and which one you might be playing, sometimes you know you have a card you want to play but it will act like you do not have it. Very frustrating

Fix the Bugs!!!!!. Great game BUT there are some major bugs in both normal and online play. Too bad because I love the game and its fun to play. Except when it keeps crashing/disconnecting (online play). Or when the dialogue boxes for your cards or menu actions suddenly start coming up blank with only the check mark and X choices visible (online and offline). It’s pretty hard to make choices when you can’t even see the options! To resolve this, you have to save and restart. This bug has been like that for at least 2-3 years or more!

Buggy. The app seems to get more unstable with each release. The cards and resource information disappears sometimes a few times in one game. You have to restart the game each time to refresh. A new bug just appeared where the game doesn’t respond to certain touch commands, e.g. tap to build a road but will only allow the road to be built at some of the available spots, or can’t build a city or upgrade a knight. This recent issue is not recoverable with restart so totally ruins the game! Otherwise I love the game.

Glitches on game and no customer support. Every game my screen freezes when I am trying to add roads or houses, mostly at the bottom of the screen. I’ll tap and tap the section I want to add the road and settlement to, and the screen is unresponsive. I have to close and reopen the game and even then it may not work. I’m super disappointed and would really like this to be fixed. It’s otherwise fun and I’m glad I found this game in app form. PLEASE help fix this.

Game relies 2 basic cheats. After playing dozens and dozens of games I’ve notices some distinct cheats that the game relies upon to make the game challenging. First the dice. Dice roll probabilities are weighted against you. More specifically they are weighted against numbered tiles you control. If you have tiles 4 through 12 (excluding seven of course) 2 and 3 will be rolled a surprising amount. The only way to combat this is to try and get as wide a range of tiles as you can. Traditional expectations that 6 and 8 are good tiles go out the window. Second, the AI will robber you to death, even if you aren’t in the lead on points. It seems if you are the first to get to 3 points the AI will relentlessly target you with robber rolls of 7 and from cards. It gets old quick especially when you get hit 4 or more times in one round. The AI likes to buy up all the cards early, at the expense of building anything. The moment you build your 3rd settlement they start using the robber. The game looks great, but lazy AI development has lead them to rely on crutches that just kill enjoyability.

Great game play, but with bugs. I love this game and the variety of scenarios to play. It is a part of my morning ritual to play a game. However, there are bugs that tend to show up late in the game play. They can be frustrating because you can't see the development card window to select and play a card, for example. Some selection windows, for building as an example, only partially render. I struggle with how to rate the game since the game itself is so great. I just wish the bugs were gone, then I'd rate it with 5 stars for sure.

This is a great App except.... I've owned this app for a few years now and my wife and I play multiplayer every night against one another online. However, there are major glitches that need to be fixed, it "buffers" out of nowhere on a computer player and makes it impossible to finish the game. Sometimes it's obvious who's going to win, and others the matches are close making it VERY frustrating when the game freezes. We paid for this app on two different accounts and would really appreciate it if the developer would kindly fix it...

Crashes often. While I love this app and have hours and hours invested in the campaign mode, it crashes so often it's maddening. I have the current version on a new iPad mini. Progress is never lost (yet), but it's frustrating. It also has several glitches like in the development card menu in-game. Often you will select the option and only the buttons appear (the info you need is not visible or selectable). If these bugs can be resolved, the game play and user experience along with the beautiful graphics will absolutely be worth 5-stars.

Computer Logic Issues. There seems to be an issue with the robber, when playing a single player game against 3 other computer opponents and the robber is throne the system always steals from the live player and never another computer player. The system will choose the live player even if they have only one card while the other computer players have multiple cards. This happens even if the player is loosing. The computer definitely seems to favor other computer players. — This makes it nearly impossible to actually compete.

Still so many buggy issues. I really do love Catan and the expansions, it's however a shame that some of the same issues exist after so many years of this App being up. It's not all together terrible, but honestly I have to say I go out of my way to not recommend this app to my friends willing to purchase it because of the ongoing frustrations. I get that there is multiple moving parts to keep the online play functional, however I feel like a few small additions and adjustments would make this much more playable. Heck- I'd pay again if I could filter which online game type I could play.

Crash fix. Try closing out all other apps. I quit playing for awhile because of crashes. Then tried again and no crashes for a few games. Then today, crashed again but I had another app open. Ready to delete but thought I would try it again with no other apps opened. And no crashes when this app was the only one opened.

Hopelessly unstable. My sons and I have been playing the online version for years once a week but starting a bit over a year ago, it has been crashing multiple times a game —- dropped connections, being thrown out of the game and having to reconnect, irreversibly replaced by a robot —— and after today, we have decided never again. I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1 only because it truly is fun when it works and to encouragement the developer to reinvest. But it seems to be abandonware, with no updates in 2 years. Don’t buy it if it hasn’t been updated since this review.

Fun with a few caveats. Really enjoying the campaign mode more than expected. I’ve played the board game a fair bit, but the expansions and resource scenarios keep it interesting. There is an interface glitch that happens at least once during each game. The dialog boxes stop appearing - sometimes gradually, and sometimes abruptly. Saving and quitting the app, and then restarting has always worked for me. I think it’s worth it, but would’ve gotten 5 stars if not for glitch.

Crashes, not developed. Update, 5-24. App crashes constantly on iPad, 17.4.1. It’s not usable. Developers clearly don’t care. It’s a fun game, but since iPad 16 it crashes, a lot. You simply go back in, but it’s annoying. There are also some bad design features. These include not being able to everything for the opponents on the right side of the screen, and the numbers behind the Robber. There are also way to many clicks to accomplish simple things - endless clicking to use the Commercial Harbor card, for example. These have been there from the very start and the developer can’t be bothered to make the simple fixes.

Love the game but.... Once I figured out how the robber works when there are two stakeholders in a given hex, the game has been non-stop enjoyment for me!! I love that it has the lite versions of various extensions built in. However, what other reviewers are saying about the dicey dice is true.. the computer is geared to throw dice in its favor- you rarely get to move the robber but the computer bots get to throw the robber practically every move and also manages to throw the dice so that it gets the needed resources! This has to be tweaked to make it a bit more fair!

Great game, but please fix dice randomization. This game is almost perfect. My favorite thing is the AI can be very hard to defeat, which makes it a great challenge. But please fix the dice. It’s unrealistic that a 7 is rolled EVERY round. For a 4 person game, thats one time out of every 4 rolls, and that would never happen with real dice. Also seeing 6s or 8s rolled 5 times consecutively is a disappointment, regardless that it helps me win or lose. If the dice were fixed, I would be inclined to purchase the Catan expansions.

Fun, but.... Yes, I agree with those who comment that the game gets to a certain point, then things start to disappear. If you shut it down and restart all things are back to normal. But, for a paid app...it shouldn’t be doing this...not after 3 years worth of this negative feedback. (I say 3 years because the first comment that rates this mentions the same issue...from 3 years ago). Overall, it’s great to be able to play this game in a digital format. Just needs some tweaks.

3 years since an update?!. The game is so glitchy. I paid for the game and expansions available but I can’t get through a game without it crashing or needing to restart the app because things stop working. Come on Catan. You’ve got plenty of money to pay for the support team to update your app. So disappointing. I would happily pay for more expansion packs as well. Let’s have more than 4 scenarios in the city and knight campaign. I doubt this review will be read… 3 years since an update is just not cool

Great game play, but not with expansions. Catan has worked flawlessly in classic mode. However, playing with 3 people and an AI using the seafarers expansion, the game is prone to errors and resultant loss of game play :(. In one case the game play was stuck on the AI with the circling graphic and was there persistently despite trying to reset the server connection and the game was LOST. Another time, the play simply stopped on the AI player and the game was lost. If programming bugs could be fixed this would be a 5 star game. For now, I would not waste money on the expansions for this game as the bugs can destroy your game without warning.

Catan works fine on IPad 4 Jan2018. I waited for a long time to download Catan, my favorite board game until the recent update due to poor reviews. I haven't had problems, crashes, etc in the month of frequent use with my older iPad4. However, I have only used the Create game sets of playing against the computer since I don't like the pressure of being in a hurry to make moves, but will try this when I have time in the near future.

This version is much better than the original!. The app has much more agreeable features there are however a few changes that could make it better. res=resources DV= development card IRL= in real life 1. Some of the data is hidden for example on my iPad, the Development Cards Remaining count is covered by the icons indicating which resources are needed to purchase a DC making it hard to decide whether or not you should trade in Resources. 2. The robber directly covers the tile number which is a little bit frustrating, not a deal breaker. 3. It would be nice to have a history that keeps track of players moves and trades. Again it’s not a deal breaker but the nice part of playing IRL is that people can see what has been traded and see what was rolled before hand. The res trades are so fast you it’s a blur. 4. The DV button is directly above the next roll/player button that a slight slip of the hand ends your turn without intending to. Aside from that I’ve enjoyed the app!

GLITCHES!!. LOVE this game but I really wish they'd fix glitches. One in particular that is super frustrating is getting kicked out of your own game when someone else is taking too long: one example is when they have a wild and have to select their resources (happens even with a bot). Another is when you offer a trade and someone doesn't reply. Both times you get kicked out if it's your turn. You cannot cancel the trade offer and you shouldn't get kicked out because someoen else is not responding. ;((

Needs more map options. Great virtual experience for this classic! However I was disappointed with the limited playable map options. Even after purchasing all the bonus DLC, I find the game to be lacking in the map department. Definitely some gems but it would be nice to customize your own map, or even an option to disable scenarios/usable expansions on the current maps. Just a thought - would add a lot more replay value to me personally
