cool in theory. I downloaded this app 4 days ago. I had to go through the whole process everyone talks about being so hard in the one star reviews. honestly the set up wasn’t too bad. the into video got me hyped up, but tbh it’s kinda a let down. the darkroom (photos have to “develop” which takes anywhere from 1-3hrs) is really cool, and I like the design of it. I like how it’s geared towards friends not followers. THAT BEING SAID. I keep getting these weird notifications (like 20+ a day): “so and so just joined Lapse!” I don’t even know who they are 90% of the time. I cant figure out if it’s sending me notifications when my contacts join or what. also, when I try to turn off those notifications, I go to my profile —> three dots in the top left —> notifications and I get this error message saying I cant access this yet because the developers are still working on this feature??? 1) why is the feature to adjust notification preferences taking so long to develop??? like that’s the biggest reason a lot of my friends have deleted the app two days after having it. and there’s no way to unlink your contacts from the app to stop it from alerting me when 4 people I haven’t talked to in months joined the app. develop it and then release it. don’t develop as you go.

Super pushy.. Signed up because I got an invite from a friend, and instantly my phone was taken over by the app. This is slight hyperbole, but the point is I felt like I was opening a video game app as my phone started playing a video and vibrating. Then as you try to go through the sign up, they push you over and over again to “invite five friends!!!!! Find five friends!!!!! INVITE 5 FRIENDS.” You can skip this step but ONLY by hitting the help button, otherwise they do not give you the option to skip inviting people. Then it forces you to take a snap immediately? I was using the bathroom at the time so it was super weird for me. Then if you try to fill out your profile at all it also forces you to upload like 3 snaps or you don’t get to update any info on your profile? So you literally have to add snaps before you can finish setting up your profile. It’s just super pushy and annoying truly. Like please let me take this at my own pace or I’m just going to delete the app and never try it again.

Not into the forced adds, making me responsible for your advertising. UPDATE: only by clicking Help in the corner can you skip the invitations. Still normalized sneakiness and still antithetical to the app’s stated purpose. Keeping my review as is while I tinker with it over the next few days. Forcing me to add friends and THEN invite 5 others who don’t have the app just to see the functionality was nauseating and annoying. Despite the aesthetic and promises of privacy (not saying I doubt the encryption), I cannot stand that I have to do the app’s own advertising by sending it to friends who may or may not be interested. I cant tell them any selling points because I haven’t seen it in use. Word of mouth is best and I would tell them about it if I liked it. But, I wouldn’t know because I can’t use it without giving them access to my contacts, sending mass texts to at least 5 people who don’t already have the app. It doesn’t feel in line with the concept of early access or friends over followers. Many of my contacts are within the “Follower from life” vs “friends to share intimate moments with”, defeating the purpose advertised. Left a bad taste. I’ll keep to BeReal. It’s not like I was actually able to see what the app has to offer to begin with.

Way too much info wanted to start. A friend invited me to get in on the “early access” of this app. Reading about it sounded okay, didn’t really blow me away, sounded like sending a text photo to a friend but I figured I’d try. At first you enter all the usual info, name, user name, phone number, etc. Then it takes you to a page where you have to add 8 people before you can continue. I knew exactly one person in the list of 65 people but I had to add 8 to go forward. So I added 8 people. Next page is them demanding you invite 5 people to use the app. Once again you cannot move forward without texting 5 people. I texted 5 landlines bc I’m not going to bother my friends will apps I don’t even know anything about. Next page, you must change your Lock Screen to include their widget. Once again you cannot move forward until you do this. This is as far as I got. I refused to continue trying to move forward, I’ve never used such an invasive app. So without even completing my profile I would get a minimum of 20 notifications a day telling me about people I didn’t know adding things I didn’t care about.

Designed beautifully. The graphics and the intro was dope - it felt like a party in my hand. Starting with my biggest con (hoping the app creators see this lol) but the watermark on the developed photos is too big. I love the film look and would want to share it on different platforms like Instagram, or even share it with friends, but the watermark logo with the logo is too big and right in the center that I’m less inclined to share it or save it on my phone. I just use other apps to get the same look when thinking of sharing the photo. I’d love to use Lapse’s saved photo but that logo watermark is not it for me. On the positives, posting photos is so easy and I like the notification that my photos have “developed” so that I can share my pictures. I also LOVE the widget on the Lock Screen that makes it SO EASY to immediately take a photo. Makes me more inclined to use the app and I use it every day!! (I’m a person who rarely takes photo to begin with.)

Annoying to set up. The app itself and the concept is really cool, but -2 stars because of how annoying it is to use it in the first place (btw my complaints are really for the app creators to see) It forced me to invite 5 people before being allowed to use it which I understand is to get more users but it almost did the opposite for me. That made me want to delete it bc I barely had anyone to invite considering some friends were already on it. The intro was very long and I hated that it forced me to add the app as a widget before being able to continue. It’s only my first day using it though, I might update this review later. Y’all would definitely get more users if it wasn’t that annoying at the beginning I bet some people would even love to keep a private account without friends just for the fun of it but having to invite people ruins that.

Love the concept!. The photos come out really cool and unique and it’s fun waiting for them to develop. I enjoy creating albums and the addition of music is a really awesome feature that brings me back to the MySpace days! I would love for this app to get more popular because I think it could be so fun to have more freedom and carelessness with our pictures. With that said there’s a few things I don’t enjoy… number one the sign up process was really sketchy and forcing you to invite people to make an account is weird. Some of my friends thought it was a scam. Not everyone feels comfortable with that. Secondly, the idea of making people pay to download the photos without a watermark is also sketchy. WE took the photo! I’m happy to pay a fee for the app but to pay per photo is ridiculous. The watermark is huge. If it was smaller it wouldn’t be as a big of a deal, but I would just like to share my photos on my Instagram stories without the aggressive watermark that ruins the photo.

So much potential. This app has so much potential. It really pulls you in with the intro video and the synchronized haptic feedback that goes along with it. I love that it feels like old school MySpace meets old Facebook and Instagram. Having to wait for photos to develop really keeps you in the moment as well. However there are a few areas where it falls short. Being forced to invite 5 people who aren’t already on the app just to be able to use it is a bit extreme. Also even after all that I am still not able to see people feeds because the app wants me to invite even more people. All the people I want on the app have already been invited or are already on the app. I feel this aspect of the app could be its downfall if something doesn’t change soon. Everyone I tell about the app seems interested until they find out they HAVE to invite at least 5 new people. Also I should be able to upload camera roll photos to be developed or be able to add archived photos to my feed at a later time.

Trying really hard to like it. When I first downloaded the app and put my phone number in to register it wouldn’t go through. I pressed the help button and it said this was a common bug and to email the lapse help email which I did. They sent me one email back saying that they had gotten my email but had an increase in responses and it would take time to respond which I understood. A couple days later I could finally enter my number and it would go through and then it asked for me to invite my five friends which I did but then when I pressed next it said it was unable to process. I sent another email but no response. Days later it was able to go through but then it asked to add the widget to your Home Screen, I did and it wouldn’t allow me to go on. Again, I sent an email and no response. Then, once again days later I could get passed that stage. I thought I was finally able to use the app. I was excited because I love the concept of Lapse and I was looking forward to taking pictures but now none of my photos will sync to the darkroom. Lapse has not been in communication with me still and I’m frustrated, I want to like the app but am not feeling like it’s worth the amount of effort I’m putting in. I’m disappointed to say the least.

Great App only 1 Concern!. I absolutely love this app. I saw a friend using it and immediately went to download it. I think the look of film is beautiful and make pictures much more interesting and detailed. I’ve sent it to several of my friends and they have all downloaded it and loved it as well. My only concern is how during setup you get stuck until you add 10 friends and share the app with 3 people. For me that wasn’t an issue, but a lot of people I’ve sent the app to it has become an issue because they either don’t have 10 friends using the app to be able to add or don’t have anyone new to send the app to. I think the app shouldn’t require people add that many friends or share it with that many people as it can cause some users to be unable to use the app altogether if they do not have enough friends to connect with. Hoping in a future update this gets fixed! Other than that I’m very much enjoying this app and love showing it to friends and family :)

Deleted my Instagram for this app. I’m so here for this!!! I downloaded this app and spent some time learning it. Although it’s not intuitive at first it wasn’t hard to pick up on. And now that I know how to use it I love it. I love that you can take a photo and not think about it, it has made me more present, as opposed to sit and look through photos / edit before posting. It feels super authentic and I have been getting as many people on it as I can since I deleted Instagram for this LOL! It feels so pure, no beauty filters, real moments, real memories and it’s awesome to see my squad get creative again. The one thing I feel is needed is to have the option to save the photo without the effect. And also post without the effect (for those who aren’t into it). Since we are posting our memories here now I feel this is something to consider. But anyways, this social media app is what we need. THANK YOU!!

love it, but def needs some fixing…. let me say, i absolutely love this app. as other reviews have stated, it has all the great parts of an actually disposable camera (super cute pics you can wait to look at) and all the fun of social media. i find myself actually going on this app multiple times a day and feeling little to no pressure to pretend, just capture fun and small moments and see those of my friends. now, onto the bad… i absolutely hated the onboarding process. the videos were unnecessarily long and having to invite five people was honestly kind of annoying (however, i do understand it’s the creator’s way of increasing users), but it’s definitely a turn off. i’m not sure if this app is here to stay, but i love the concept of it so far and absolutely LOVE that there are no ads. hoping it doesn’t turn into an Instagram wanna-be

Lots of steps required to be able to use the app once downloaded. This app seems like a cool idea, but the whole set up to just be able to use the app was so beyond frustrating and annoying. First you have to add 8 friends. I’m not someone that has a lot of friends, lost quite a few after high school. So I had to add people I haven’t spoke to in a couple years. Next, you have to invite 5 friends to join the app. How annoying!! I don’t want to invite 5 people to use this app THAT I HAVEN’T EVEN GOT TO TRY YET. And just when you thought maybe it would finally be over, they make you add it as a widget to your lock screen/wallpaper. This was the most tedious annoying process I’ve ever gone through just to USE an app. I literally almost deleted it after it was asking me to add 8 people. The only reason I went through all the bull was because my best friend really wanted me to download it. Anyway if you want to spend 5-10 minutes setting up and app just to use it, then this is definitely the one for you. I would give this app 0 stars if I could. Stop making people do ridiculous steps just to use your app.

unnecessary set up process.. Was really excited to try the app out and experience it with my friends, after receiving an early access invite, but I was thrown into a long set up process where i had to invite and add a total of 13 people which felt like much. There were many options of people to make my friend (8 people needed to continue) but I did not want to have that many people, with the options given, as my friend on the app. The friends that I did have that were already on the app usernames did not show up after typing them in to try and add them. After getting past that step I then had to invite 5 more people to join the app. The people that I am friends with already have the app so I did not have 5 extra people to send an invite to. Maybe if you only needed to add 1-3 people that would have been fine but the whole set up process was a bit much.

Desperate data grab. I downloaded this app because my friends were getting it and it was the new hype social media. Upon downloading and using this app for a mere 15 minutes, I quickly came to realize that this app is purely built to take as much data as they can from you and sell it. It’s no different than the big ones, but at least the big ones hide it slightly better on launch. Only plus is that it’s beautifully coded and designed. The app once downloaded has a lot of invasive nonnegotiable information requirements. It asks for access for camera and microphone (don’t remember why they needed that got lost in the “new type social media” bull). Then it asked for contacts and photo access. However instead of hiding their access to my pictures they blatantly boast that they have access to my pictures prior to even clicking allow access to all pictures. This part didn’t really phase me because TikTok has been doing the same thing ever since I downloaded it. The part that made the data grab seem desperate was that when I tried to delete my account they gave me an ultimatum. If I deleted my account in the next data wipe, my number would be banned from using the app. I’m sure they have some legal bull written about this in their privacy policy somewhere to justify their desperation, but it’s all just a coy for this BeReal knockoff.

New and Digestive. I love that I can keep memories on film, upload and create a story with my personal account and not view everyone else’s media if I don’t want too. I can go on, capture memories, and I get to wait for them to develop which is fun! Without being bombarded with hour glass figures and content creaters. The way you can choose loads of pictures and a song for your profile is like watching your life in a small film. I watch it just to take in my days, I get to reflect on this app, see the life I do live when time moves so fast. Adore this app, can lay low and enjoy it. Without the mental overload of media. If it ever changed that, I wouldn’t keep it. I like to stay off media and indulge in my every day to day life and explore myself. This app lets you have fun with your phone and do so.

Loving it, but some grievances.. Love love love the idea behind lapse. A step back into simpler times before the rush of social media. However, this isn’t something I’ve fully adopted due to the infancy of the app, and sharing links to get started. I do understand Lapse is trying to build a baseplate of users before rolling out public access. I think the invite only is kinda killing the lust to create an account. For instance I invited my wife to join, but she never completed setup bc of the invites you HAVE to send to users who aren’t on it already. My wife isn’t one to bombard her family and friends with links to random stuff on the internet, therefore she was out before ever getting to experience it. Another thing. I’m not gonna remember to take a photo with Lapse to capture a moment. Lapse has access to my photo library, yet I can’t seem to get the upload to work. I’d like to upload photos to the share feed, but can’t. I’m assuming that’s a quick fix that’ll hopefully be fixed by next bug update.

Cool but counterintuitive. If Instagram and VSCO had a baby, it would be this app. Cool in theory, but seems like just another platform to make Gen Z people feel retro because their photos on their iPhone 15’s have filters on them. Interesting concept, though. I liked the intro video, but I hated that I had to invite a multitude of people given that it is only in development. Also didn’t like how I couldn’t block or restrict other users, but I get that maybe that feature isn’t available yet. I would say I would have downloaded it again once that feature was developed, however, cant since I can’t even use my number anymore🙃 That’s an ultimatum that doesn’t make much sense. For the amount of people you have to recruit to the app to actually make your own account, most of them will end up deleting it within day just to never be able to use it again. Counterintuitive, IMO. Fix that and maybe you’ll get people back.

Love this app but scammy features. I love the concept of this app, very fun and different way to approach social media. I love the filters, truly looks just like my 35mm camera! The concept of the developing time is fun and I really like how it prevents you from doing a bunch of retakes in the moment. The process of posting is easy and intuitive. I wish there were a few tweaks to the process of downloading, requiring you send to 5 seems excessive especially when you can’t send to people already on the app. I get the idea behind it, but it’s been a turn off for some of my friends who don’t want to go through the long process and bug other people to download. I also wish you could just use the filter on existing pics or export without logo. I recently updated so you can no longer screenshot, you must export with the app logo. It’s not a very appealing logo/ watermark- I think it detracts from the overall vibe of the picture. I would repost to other platforms more if it was a little more streamlined or better placed. It really just makes me want to crop it out. I hope this app catches on and more people download, it’s really a good idea just could be improved user experience!

Love this app but could use a little work!. As an avid hater of what Instagram has become, I love Lapse! I love being able to see my friends posts instead of ads, businesses or influencers. I hope with the rise of popularity, that doesn’t change but we’ll see after time. I love the friend not follower model. However, the find friends could use work. I wish it would show me more options instead of showing the same people that I don’t know at all. You have to add the people listed before you are able to see new options of friends you may know. I’ve been digging through other friends’ friends list to find my friends which is a bit annoying. It also shows me when someone joins lapse but I’m like who are you? I don’t even know who they are. Another big thing that I hope they work on is deleting photos. I’ll post on lapse and decide I actually don’t want a photo to post and delete it, but it only deletes it for me. My friends are still able to see it hours later and it’s a little embarrassing especially if I take multiples of the same photo. That’s my main gripe with this app. Otherwise I love the app and I can see it becoming the next big thing as long as it doesn’t fall and make the same mistakes as other big apps. I love the personal touch to Lapse. Please don’t fall to ads and business models. Love you!

I love this app, but….. This app rocks. It’s so fun. I deleted Instagram because I found the reels too addicting, and feel like this app takes me everything I love about Instagram and makes it healthy. I’ve told many of my friends about it and gotten them to use it, and they like it too!! Today I wanted to post on Instagram some photos from lapse, and found that it crops your photo and doesn’t take off the lapse logo unless you add three friends (which I did, but it only lasts for 24hours!). You can’t even download your photos to your phone without the logo/time stamp or the awful crop, which is really frustrating to me. I was going to post my lapse photos on Instagram and advocate to my followers to download the app because I love it, but I won’t be doing that with the weird automatic crop/logo, and am considering discontinuing my use altogether because of this issue. Which makes me sad. Plz fix, or at least let me screenshot!!!

Privacy concerns. I couldn’t even get through the app set up because it was so convoluted. First, you have to be sent an invite, then you have to send 5 people who are NOT on the app an invite (so a pyramid scheme). Most of my friends were already on the app so I ended up sending it to people I barely know, I felt like an annoying telemarketer. You HAVE to link your contacts and you HAVE to add a home screen button that take photos and directly uploads them onto the app. What I’m getting from that is that the app constantly has access to your camera feed (besides the fact that having an extra button on your home screen is just annoying). Then you HAVE to take an initial photo to start using the app, except it doesn’t tell you whether the app uses your front or back camera (nor is this info available online). For those of you who don’t know, you can’t see a preview of the photo so you don’t really know what’s being photographed. Yeah you can make an educated guess it’s the back camera but I would like that to be clearer. You can’t opt out of any of these steps. I ended up jumping through hoops to use another social media app that will sell my info.

Cool concept but…. It’s a cool concept and I could really see myself using it a lot if it was a little smoother to use. I want to clarify that I understand how to use social media however i kinda feel like i’m blacked out trying to use this app. I ended up sending a dm to multiple people and not posting, I also remember when setting up my account I was able to upload photos and now I can not find that feature anywhere or where those pictures went. Somehow I’m always just clicking around trying to figure out what the heck i’m trying to do, it’s just not super clear. It’s also hard to go back if you click on the wrong thing. Other than that, I love the aesthetic and the photos. one last thing, you should make it so we can press and hold to pause people’s journals so that we can see the photos better and that we can reply back to comments instead of just adding another comment.

What I Hope Will Be The Next Social Media App. This app is so epic. I love that there are no ads or promotional stuff, only updates on when a friend of yours thought to pull out their phone for 2 seconds and take a quick snapshot- one that you can’t see until you’ve forgotten about taking a picture in this is a trait I love about disposable film cameras since it makes the experience of taking and viewing a photo so rewarding- but it’s cool to see it applied to the convenience and increased connectivity of smartphones. I hope no businesses or corporations will think of using Lapse (formerly Journal) as a new tool to exploit for advertising like BeReal. Also, as a photographer, I’m bothered by the digital look of captures when all I could do was pull out my phone without any creative control over the camera settings. By using Lapse for documenting fleeting moments, I embrace the vintage edit, and I can carry on with life, satisfied with how my photos turned out. As for the rebrand, however, I don’t think I’ve met any friends who’ve liked the new logo. The watermark it adds to pictures when you save them ruins the lower half of the image. Please fix that Lapse. The goofy logo betrays the film quality of the photos.

“Deleted forever” and my account is still active 2 weeks later. If this is what floats your boat, you can be all for it. But I should have the right to see for myself that I’m not interested and then delete the account that I made. Did the whole 8 page process to get rid of this app and finally got to the last screen “your account will be deleted soon. we batch delete users every week” and I checked a week later and had to do the entire process again to see the same “this number will be blocked forever from Lapse” page again. That is pretty shady. It insinuates that you prey on users to get sucked into forgetting to remove themselves and falsely advertise the amount of “friends” who are using the app. Requiring 8 people to get sent the cheesy “pls download this app 👉🏻👈🏻” message and then add an additional 5 more thru the app is low key a pyramid scheme. I got needing to build a user base but hardwiring it into the account making process is kinda a red flag. 👋🏼 Hey admin, please delete my account, I am not interested in your app and have the right to do so.

Yikes.. Some aspects of the app are lovely, and amazing! Issues: Forces you to add people, shares photos at a skinnier aspect ratio than you took the photo with, messing up compositions, when you finish sharing images you get a huge popup to create an album every. single. time. if i want to make an album i’ll make an album, the copywriting in the app sometimes feels like bullying, blocks users from screenshotting images. the only way to export your photos is with a huge ugly watermark and date stamp on it. to export without this [glad there is an option at least] is to invite even more friends to the app…….. I love that this app lets you save memories and focus on curating what is happening in real time with yummy film presets. The concept could be pushed further by making image development take 2 hours, so it is more similar to actual film photography. Allowing more camera zoom options like BeReal allows, etc. So many good amazing things with this app, but also so many terrible annoying things, like popups, and annoying jeers to make albums, cringe copywriting, etc etc. Please fix these things, and i’d actually want to tell my friends about this app. For now it is 50% nice 50% some forced MLM

Honestly obsessed. There’s still some changes and things that need to be made as it is new, but fr fr it’s become my favorite thing no gassing. It’s like VSCO, MySpace (with the profile music), photo dumps, and like Dispo or Huji in one it’s great. Seriously take advantage of it and the widget and just use it like a blog but then having your friends on there is so cool cuz you can look at their little blogs too!!! It really helps to romanticize my life more and like pick out little moments and capture them it’s so much fun and so cute and really easy to take aesthetic and pretty photos all the time. I hope in the near updates we can add music to the created albums too and not just the monthly ones so that we can really curate the vibes on our journals, overall though I just love it

there are really annoying aspects of the app. ok so the pics are so gorgeous that you can take with this app, they look super authentic and help me romanticize my life so much and i lovvvvvveee that i have to wait for it to develop and i dont worry about retaking photos because i or someone else “doesn’t look good.” i also just really love the overall concept and vibe, and i love the friends not followers, and the emoji reactions and the look of the profiles SOOO CUTE. however. i HATE. that i cant save my own photos to my camera roll. i was reposting my lapse photos so much and then now all of the sudden i have to do all these tedious things in order to save my photos. like wtffff???? i get that you want for more people to download the app but if i am able to save and repost my photos without the logo and the crop that i want then i will be way more inclined to post them and even tag lapse. so annoying.

One of the most pretentious apps out there. You HAVE to give access to ALL your contacts, HAVE to provide your phone number. Why? It’s a dumb little app to share photos. You HAVE to send invites to 5 friends before you can access the actual app. Why should I as a user give my entire contact list and my own phone number to an untrustworthy company? If you have to force your users to invite their friends, your app can’t be that good. How about you actually create a genuinely good app so people ask their friends to join naturally. But no, you have to do this bullsh*t to attract more users. I tried to sign up, and I had to sit through a intro video. If your app was designed well, a generic user would be able to figure out your UI, and your features through using it. I don’t mind a splash screen if I don’t use a particular feature, but you do that too. So its double pretentious. It took me about 10 minutes before I was able to take a picture on this app.

Seemed Ok, Has Some Drawbacks. I saw this app and immediately wanted to give it a shot. I’m huge on pictures, and thought it would be like Huji but better. Not quite. First, it requires that you invite a bunch of people, which i did and dismissed it as a good idea to get the word out for the app. Cool, fine, whatever. Some of my close friends didn’t want to do this step, feeling super awkward about the implication, so the social aspect was already a little gone. Then I took pictures, and the development feature is quite fun. Love the profile customization and all that jazzy stuff. Then I tried to download the pictures, and they have large watermarks that you can only remove if you invite 3 new people to the app every 24 hours. Thats crazy. Each week, sure, but every day? Idk, i didn't want to bother more people so i downloaded what i could with the watermarks and deleted the app. R.i.p. - i’m sure some people wont mind, but it wasn’t for me or my group.

Most desperate app ever. Lapse tries so hard to portray their platform as some wholesome throwback app but the very concept of swiping on your photos to share contradicts the whole “let’s go back to being real on social media” message that they preach. Having a “darkroom” to develop photos on a smartphone is wild because it’s so clearly there just to make users continuously come back to the app. If you want to develop a new social media app that’s chill but stop acting so high and mighty about your platform when it has the exact same goal as every other app: to get users. I wasn’t going to write this review but I’ve requested twice for my account to be deleted and it still has not been deactivated over 2 weeks later. No way you’re so desperate to keep people that you “mass delete” accounts every week in hopes that they’ll forget they made the request instead of just letting people delete their accounts whenever they want.

Absolutely terrible sign up. If I could rate this 0 stars, this app still does not deserve that high of a rating. The sign on process is horrible. After typing in my friends usernames, the app will not recognize the name even when I have their account information in front of me. Despite sending in several bug requests, there is no answer on how to resolve. This is further frustrating given the terrible signing on process, and inability to add my friends when the app won’t pull up their usernames. Furthermore, I did not give this app permission to see my contacts, yet suspiciously it recommended individuals from my contacts that I haven’t spoken to in years. The cherry on top is the app crashing and inviting those 25 random people that I haven’t spoke to in years. I have asked for my account be deleted to save me further embarrassment, but there is no response from their help desk, only a 7 day waiting period for this account. Absolutely garbage, do better lapse.

Capture the moment, don’t curate them!. This app does a good job mimicking the feel of film. As someone who is familiar with using film, the app does an excellent job of capturing moment, as opposed to curating them. I do wish that the devs would be able to add an option of shooting with 24 and/or 36 roll films and not having them developed until the roll is finished. I think half the fun of using film is capturing moments, forgetting what was captured and then getting them developed to look back fondly at them. Although it won’t be as quick as posting regularly on your journal, I think this option would give a more nostalgic feel for those who really want to mimic film photography. Overall, I think this app is great and would love to see that added as a feature!

needs a lot of work but it is a cute and good concept. right off the bat, the inviting friends to join and adding random people should not be required to register as a user, not a lot of people are going to like that and i surely didn’t. i had to add random strangers to have access to the app. i invited 5 of my contacts and it glitched so now the app is making me invite a total of 10 contacts for me to be able to see whatever my friends are posting. seriously?? the pictures are cute at least but the app is so annoying when you’re not just using it to take pictures. the loading intro screen for the profile needs to be taken away not a lot of people are going to like seeing the repeated video about their profile details especially when they already know. I think adding a video camera could also be a nice thing. Another thing is that I wish that I could save the pictures i uploaded as my background “journal” thing from my camera roll with the filters you guys put on them. other than that the app is good and cute but none of my friends will go through the signup process and as i’ve seen per review every one else’s won’t either.

Needs Work. The app is really cool but I have seen other people say it has “scammy” features which I agree with. Having to send the app to 5 friends before using seems unnecessary and detered me away from using it at first. After getting over that, I cannot save my pictures without a watermark and I can’t even save the whole picture without it cropping! I should be able to save the entire picture not just what fits to the phone screen. Not to mention the “screenshot” police that also stop you from having your own pictures! I’m not mad that you can’t screenshot but there has to be a way to save the whole picture. With some reworking it could be good for pictures and as a social app but currently it just seems like a scam. The creators of the app are desperate for free marketing and dont want you to have your entire film picture, they only want you to use and spread their app.

Exciting. Instagram is dying and I hate posting on there. Really just hate getting on any social media. So right from the beginning when they introduced the feel and purpose when I got the app it got me really excited. I don’t think the set up process is too long. It’s not that big of a deal. It has to be longer than other apps to be more personal and meaningful. I’m excited to see where this goes. Also love the music feature and cute emojis you can put with your profile picture. It’s fun, new, aesthetic, and intimate. Just like how instagram was when it first came out. And how social media should be. It’s still new to me and I haven’t gotten many friends yet so it’s still a 4/5 stars for that reason. Glad we are moving on and creating better forms of social media🥰 Thank you to the creators for being creative and putting so much effort into this

Perfect for Memories and Journaling. I’m quite fond of the journaling feature in Lapse. It’s seamless to include music, text, and photos, creating a hassle-free experience. It’s great for sharing with close friends, but I mostly appreciate it for personal journaling and revisiting my memories. The core value of this app lies in its ability to preserve memories, which is crucial to me as I deeply cherish time. The time and date stamps are a fantastic addition! Additionally, the need to wait for photo development in the app encourages staying present in the moment, rather than rushing to apply the perfect filter for immediate posting. While a few filters for enhancing photo quality or adding an artistic touch would be nice, I appreciate the simplicity of the app and the option to keep things straightforward.

Holds your pictures hostage, forces you to invite over 10 people. This app concept is cool but its pros are lost in translation. -This app will not let you screen shot your pictures. It’s honestly creepy that when you do, the picture saved is a cat with a police hat telling you to save it from the app. You can’t take the logo and date numbers off of the photo until you invite more people, AND post it to a public place, which is totally against the motto of this being “for you and for friends not ‘followers’”. -This is not worth the effort. Too many hoops to jump through to have a fully working app. It makes you invite people right when you get on, you can’t try out the camera or see what the person who invited you sent you. Everyone I invited said this too and didn’t go through with it so I have no friends on here. Overall, It’s embarrassing to invite anyone else because of this forcing them to add even more people.

it was nice while it lasted. I have been an avid journal, now lapse, fan for quite some time now. I’ve recommended it to many because of simply loving the vibes of the app. Now, I think it’s important to note, the process of getting the app is overly aggressive and unnecessary-I do understand the thought and strategy behind it, but I also think presenting someone with such a bad fist impression is, plainly said, a bad idea. Next, not only did you neglect to fix the tragic, vibe ruining watermark, and made it look worse, but you removed the ability for us to screenshot. Why? Now I’m sure you could give many reasons for that, but I don’t think any would level out to the ramifications of this. Because of the watermark I refuse, and always will refuse, as so many agree, to share any of the photos on any other social platform, period. Nor, quite frankly, do I like the pictures at all. (I want the real snapshot, film pictures back) Once, the simple way around this was to screenshot the photo, but no. That being said, when it comes down to it, the vibes were ruined when you turned away from the original purpose and mission of this app to popularity and profit. I really do hope to see some good changes that get you back to your roots in the future, thanks.

Sign up is too complicated. I love the idea of this app, but the sign up, pop-ups, steps… it’s just too much. I had ZERO energy to actually use the app after the sign up process. I have numerous friends that won’t even try it when I invited them because they heard the sign up process was too long. I got done with signing up after being forced to add 8 friends (who idk how I would add them because none of the people I would add have Lapse because it’s so new (so that makes 0 sense to have that as a sign up requirement)), add photos, invite friends, and more. The intro, unnecessarily long & as a creative, I get that people worked hard on it, but it needs to be like 3 seconds long or you lose people. Just please make this user friendly. You have way too much competition with other social media platforms and ‘film’ apps to have something this annoying to sign up for.

Cool app, but…. It’s funny when you screenshot, the cat police shines thru. The app is a bit confusing, but still getting used to. I do like that we get to wait patiently for the pics to develop, but I don’t like that when I post on my Instagram, the logo shows. I don’t want other people knowing that I’m on a new app w/ constant suggested friends. This app is perfect for introverts, but I prefer having a small group of friends knowing about my life, rather than acquaintances who just wanna know wassup. It’s a bit annoying that I had to invite 5 friends in order to see my friends’/family’s feeds, & trying to take out the logo, with a 9:3 photo/edit the photo before uploading to my camera roll just to invite 3 friends. Which I get, Lapse is promoting themselves to be out there. Also, when I archived all my photos last Thursday, I thought I was able to share them later so that it can be posted on my feed, but no one saw the day off I was enjoying. So I put it in my album for people to see & even posted a status for people to look at it, but I didn’t get any emoji reactions, which defeats the purpose since they’re pretty much like “Likes.”

Fix your app. First off I wanna the concept and idea of the app is real cute and I can see the potential of using this app for cute photos. Now all that being said, why do I have to add like 10 people just to get the app running like I don’t wanna add random people or people I don’t like as my friends on here, like why do I have to go through all these things before I have to use the app, like yes I get understanding how to navigate and use the functions of it, but it’s doing too much with having to share it with other people, secondly there are so many bugs with app, like deleting or editing your photos they won’t fix or they don’t function right when you try to edit, thirdly, I don’t like how when you archive photos when they develop you can’t post them later if you decide to, like what if I don’t feel like posting it till later, and if I archive it I won’t be able to post it when I feel like it, and how do I even save my photos if I wanna keep them in my own camera roll, anyways I do like the app but there is too many bugs and required things that y’all are asking for that makes this app too much, fix it, thank you♥️

A Touch Aggressive, Too Little Polish. I do like the overall concept of the app, it's a bit aggressive in forcing the user to invite 5 people before they can even take a look at the main screen or give it a shot. I really don't want to spam my friends so I can see what a 'new social media' is about. Additionally, trying to add snaps to select is frankly annoying - I don't want to see the same introductory screen every time i open it with no images! It takes too much time and after the third or so time of seeing "Your profile is your Journal" in an attempt to upload images I pretty much closed the app. It's a solid concept, and I hope it does well, but it really needs to back off new users and let them look around before forcing them to invite people. EDIT: I've brought it down to two stars, there's no way to retroactively add snaps to your feed - I wanted to see how all of my images turned out before deciding which to post but that's not an option at all. So make sure you don't accidentally swipe left to archive, ever. It has a lot of potential but it's really adamant about not letting you be any form of anonymous.

a love hate relationship. lapse has by far the best “film” filter i’ve seen on any app. the concept of waiting for the photo to “develop” is so unique and i get giddy waiting to see how the photo turns out. BUT. i cannot stand all the barriers. i have to invite 5 friends in order to use the app? jokes on you, i don’t have that many friends to annoy with an invite. the app is glitchy. they used to allow screenshotting the photos but now you can only download it with a huge ugly watermark. and to unlock those features you need to invite 3 more friends!!! can they just play a 30 second ad of those fake gaming apps? a big reason why i joined is to have those photos to save and share and i know a lot of my friends (all 5 of them) joined because of that too. hope they figure out all the glitches and a way to download these great photos without a watermark bc they will be the next bereal.

Good in theory. I’m honestly not a social media type of person. A few of my friends sent me the link to join this and I figured why not so I did. The process to get an account is a little aggressive and was a really lengthy process. The idea of it seems really good and I like the idea and the layout. Originally when I made my account I only chose 4 pictures because I didn’t really know what the pictures would be for. I ended up decided I wanted to change them and it will NOT load. I’ve tried to refresh it multiple times and I’ve tried to use it on different internet sources and use my own cell service but it’s not working. I also wish you could zoom in more in the apps before you take the picture. Honestly if those issues were fixed it would probably be a 5 star. My only problems are the challenges to change journal pictures, how long the process to join the app is, and not being able to farther zoom in. But it is a cute app with potential.

Fun with friends but difficult to use. I have liked this app and have had for a few months. A lot of my friends and I have it and it’s really sweet to see everyone’s beautiful photos. This app produces really good quality pictures with a nostalgic and aesthetic feel to them. However, it is very laggy. When opening up my developed photos, it pauses nearly every time and I can only get out of the frozen screen by exiting the app. It also won’t post/archive/or delete when I swipe, only to load later accidentally posting or deleting when it wasn’t my intention. I also can’t seem to find a way to tag friends after I’ve already posted the photo (which I have done several times on accident). I don’t know if it’s an actual feature, but I would really like it if it became one. Overall, it’s a fun app but just be ready to exert frustration when trying to obtain and post your photos.

Like it but there is no way it would “replace” using camera. I really like the ability to share photos with my friends without a surplus of ads and unnecessary features. I hope that aspect stays the same. The moment i see an ad I’ll delete. I would like to be able to upload photos. I get that the point is that you don’t see the photo you took until later, but if I’m really truly living in the moment then I’m not trying to take a picture on my camera and in this app. And this app is not going to replace my camera app because i can’t save the photos to my phone unless i either download with a logo and date/time or i go through all these hoops to be able to remove watermarks. Also I would probably want to be able to have the photo without a filter. Since i can’t upload photos, I haven’t really been using the app since I downloaded it. If we could create multiple journal entries and keep it separate from the snaps that could be a cool option to retain the whole “i just snapped this pic so casually” aspect while also allowing us to share photos with friends that we didn’t take on Lapse

What kind of pyramid scheme BeReal is this?. It’s legitimately a pyramid scheme I’m convinced!! Like it WILL NOT let you test out ANY app features, or even give you a clear idea about what the app is without first adding at least 8 friends who already have accounts and inviting 5 friends who don’t. And spoiler, it’s BeReal with a vintage filter and slightly different restrictions. Instead of only seeing one post per day and it being spontaneous you can see a month of people’s posts on their feed but you can’t actually LOOK at your own photo you took (at whatever time you wanted) until some random time of day that it’s “developed” I guess if you’re looking to get roped into an app that starts it’s features with making you peer pressure your friends into also getting the app, just to share slightly edited “spontaneous photos”, then this is the app for you :) My personal recommendation? Get an actual disposal camera for actual moments that you’ll actually care to look back on!

2/5 for now. I think that the whole of this app is really cool and could definitely be better than BeReal, another app with the ‘wait to play’ concept. I see a few similarities to Tinder, Instagram, and most noticeably, Snapchat, but the speed of the app isn’t up to par at all when it comes to quick, smooth popups. The camera takes around a second to load and that could mean so much when you quickly open the app to snap a picture to see later. I noticed how you’re actually forced to invite contacts to the app and I can’t doubt that this is just a way to spread the word that this app exists. It took me quite a long time to actually gain control on this app, since there were constant popups instructing me to do this or that. This app has loads of potential and I could see myself using Journal on a daily basis. TLDR: ehh. app is kinda slow. i like snapchat better. bad for stalking. no scrolling feature. 2/5

AMAZING!. I love this app and I post on it pretty much every day! I love sharing my life in such a real and raw way and expressing myself through these disposable photos. I also love seeing photos of my friends and what they’re doing. I have gotten 8 people to get this app so far and everyone loves it!!

horrible update. Deleted this app after the update since I can’t save my photos without the watermark anymore. I have no use for it anymore if I can’t have my photos without them being a walking ad.

Great app - need to fix widget. Great app, I love the photos that result from it and the concept. Please add an option for the lockscreen widget to not have a number. The number is not correctly correlated to the number of photos developing and I wish there was an option to not have it there. It used to not have a number and I much prefer it that way. As well, it doesn't add to brand/app awareness at all so I'm not sure if there is any good reason for it. My rating would go up to 5 if this changed!

Lapse review. I loveeeee this app! I use it all the time! It’s way more fun to take pictures, and as a photographer, it’s a lot like a camera, but the developing is easier. I’m always checking to see if my pictures have developed! I definitely recommend this app!

So cute and fun!!. i love this app and i hope more ppl start using it!!!

Too much steps. I agree with others as well , I have people on their I know but we ain’t friends we acquaintances

super cool!. It’s so fun! I just wish after taking multiple pictures at once, you could look at them all and decide which one you want to share. As after you archive a picture you’re unable to share it. Other then that amazing app :D

Dope. New bereal unlocked

Sharing to access. I love the photo camera quality in the app but I just don’t think you should have to invite 5 people, to access the app.

Don’t waste your time. They force u to invite friends and ask so many questions. Deleted app.

LOVEEEE. I love this app it is so much fun to do with friends glitchy at times but is overall awesome.

Weird hoops to jump through. There’s insane rules to saving photos on this app. Either every photo has the lapse logo on it, or you have to share photos on your story and make minimum posts (5 days every week) to save without a glowing orange logo on your picture. I love the aesthetic and concept behind this app but this has left a sour taste in my mouth. Hoping that the app updates to get rid of this soon or will be switching back to my normal camera/editing so I have control over the photos i take.

Music. Awesome app overall but idk why the music got removed that part was awesome

this app is like drugs. drugs

🩷 This app is super cool! 🩷. When I started using the app I will say there was a lot of set up steps like at least 5 but you will see the other comments were a bit dramatic. It was well worth the steps to have the app itself! You can send friend requests to who you would like (at least 8 people) but if they don’t all accept that’s fine! I have 6 friends and I like keeping it simple. You take photos in your disposable camera and they sit in your digital darkroom for a time being 30 mins - to an hour and once they have developed you can chose to post it to your friends or delete it. You can also go in your friends feed and post comments about how you are feeling today, your mood and emoji to go with it Example: I’m feeling… Snappy 📸 and your friends can react. However in the featured section you may chose to look at strangers photos so be ware of that. They are never inappropriate as the app is careful about what gets submitted to the featured section, but still be careful! The app is very fun! I hope my review was helpful :) 10/10 would recommend!

update sucks. This was my favourite app until they updated and you can’t save your photos without their watermark now:/ deleted so fast.

Terrible. This app literally has so many things u have to do, to even START using it. i deleted it after i made an account. sorry it shouldnt take me 10 minute's just to answer everything and do what u guys make people do and share with 5 friends? so annoying. such a turn off no one has time for all that

Very very fun :3. I hate taking pictures because the second I take them I find like 30 defects, with this I just stopped caring and it’s sm fun to take pics w the app!!!

Bro just give us instant access. Why the heck do I have to do a whole quest just to use the damm app

The one star comments are bull. Screw you guys who said it’s hard

It sucks. It’s not even letting me delete my account now lol.

🩷. So gooddd

makes my pictures look musty i love it. by musty i don’t mean gross i mean like old but it’s cute

Awful first impressions. The app makes you jump through hoops just to sign up. I think I would be more forgiving if it allowed you to skip certain steps that you could double back to at a later date like the profile picture and adding contacts, but the app won’t let you proceed until you complete each step. It’s also weird that it claims you need to send the link to 5 people in your contacts because there is limited space since it’s still in early development, but it’s essentially asking for more users while claiming limited space. Overall not impressed. Conceptually it is a cool idea but it shouldn’t be this hard to set up the app.

Weird needy pyramid scheme-esque app????. Completely agree with the other reviews criticizing how many steps there are to get into the app. It asks you for a bunch of information and accessibility, like to access contacts and your phone number to send a code, which would be normal and fine if it actually sent a code. After retrying later and being able to get past this step, it then tells me I’m “almost there! just have to invite FIVE other friends to the app!😉😉😉”. Such a slimy barrier to put before being able to access the app, because for your friend to then be able to join the app, they would have to invite FIVE of their friends… Free advertising in the form of a pyramid scheme, how smart! (i don’t think you could invite friends that were already on the app either) Deleted the app after seeing this ridiculous requirement, I’m not going to harass my friends so I can have another social media. Cool idea maybe, but the whole thing seems very holier-than-thou high on itself.

Easier to get a donor kidney than sign up. The sign up was so tedious that I deleted the app before I was finished. Cool concept but awful execution.

Snapchat + BeReal but better?. This app is kinda takes the best of both apps and makes them into a cool way to share memories with friends and for yourself. I’ll definitely be using this over snap memories for the time being!

Cool idea but lacks a few basic functionalities. Cool idea and pretty filters. Wish we could unsend a vibe and I think the monthly highlights flip between photos too quickly in the users profiles (journals)

made me add 8 ppl to join, i don’t have that many friends dude.. i literally don’t have 8 friends on this app and it won’t let me join until i add 8 ppl bro whyyyy just let me have like 3 added this is crazy man

Love this app, absolutely amazing. Ye

uhhhh. love the idea of it but now my dad has an account

So much fun!!. A refreshing app with a new concept! Feel like I’m using an actual camera when I’m snapping random pictures throughout the day, waiting eagerly to see how they develop!!! My only complaint is that it’s a litttttle confusing and the software isn’t the easiest to navigate. Hoping with time and further development, these small issues will be fixed. Looking forward to seeing this little community skyrocket!

BEST APP EVER!. This is my new favourite app! I am never buying a disposable camera again!

Can not delete account whilst sign up.. Followed their FAQ to delete account because inviting 5 friend before you even used the app is unacceptable. Now I can receive 6 digit code for signing up but can not receive 6 digit code while deleting the account? Wow how conveniently this is broken :)

Gimmicky!. The app FORCES you to invite/add 15 friends - even if you just wanna enjoy it with a small group of people! They push how “exclusive” it is but you can’t proceed to use it unless you push it on more people! They need a skip button because it’s WAY to forceful.

Intrusive and demanding. I didn’t end up using this app because you cannot use it until you invite 5 friends and give them your phone number which I was not interested in doing. Then after couple months of the app just sitting on my phone it started to send intrusive notifications, flashing screen, weird images, buzzing. Needless to say I deleted it.

Lapse. You have to share the app with a ton of people to even get started which is weird but I do love it. The idea behind the app is so creative and this is the only thing I take pictures on now

Have fun. Absolutely amazing! Lapse is a must-have app for anyone looking to unleash their creativity with the freedom to create with their eyes closed. The results are always fun and full of unexpected energy. It's a fantastic tool for exploring new creative avenues!

Lapse. This app is awesome you can really find some hot girls on this

most recent update won’t let you change music/buggy. App is great…. but can’t change music keeps giving errors every time (all music options in the app), and anytime you select specific photos to add to highlights’ and go back into edit them later on it will re-add every photo you removed and you will have to select each photo again and drag to delete box before selecting the ones you want. pls fix

This app is so cute. Honestly for such a newly made app, I love the design and idea behind it. It is so well made and it’s so cute and fun.

First review I ever wrote. This app is so bad that I made the first review I’ve ever written just to give it a bad rating. Unfortunately, I cannot give it 0 stars, so I have to settle with just one.

Instagram Who?. This app is so refreshing , disposable film style ? Perfection. I love how in the moment and refreshing it is , no trends , no likes , no getting wrapped up in trendy audios and toxic people etc… This app allows you to express yourself in the moment you are in and show the beauty and rawness within it. You get to express yourself to the fullest while having fun with your friend circle. Creating a profile and adding a theme song was so fun to choose out with my friends. I can’t wait to see all the beautiful moments captured within this app. 🤍 Thank you to the creators ✨

Terrible. You got to invite the universe before you can create an account. Literally the worse app ever

bad design. this app forces you to add people, connect your entire contact list, share the app with 5 others, and add a lock screen widget and won’t let you progress without doing so. it also constantly sends you notifications to continue the onboarding if you stop. horrible onboarding, not worth it for a mid app.

I actually really like it. I thought this is just another lame version of be real or Instagram, but it’s not and it’s a really cool but interesting app. Often I take the picture and just forget about them until the end of that day then it’s a fun lil surprise. I will say the “invite 5 friends” I wasn’t really a fan of and seems the same for everyone. y’all need to remove that it’s killing the app!

First Born Child in Return for Sign Up. Make it easier to sign up without needing to give away my first born child. More than 10 steps to set up an app in 2023 is wild.

Tedious but worth it. The sign up process is for exposure for the app it’s great marketing!! The app is amazing and I’m glad it’s being pushed so many people I know are now on lapse!!

My Daily App. The best and most exciting app on my phone. I use Lapse daily and for the first time in years have enjoyed capturing photos with my phone again. This app has transformed the my relationship with the camera on my phone.

App is almost fun, some extreme drawbacks. Update: i'm going to uninstall if you ask me every single time whether or not I want to keep notifications off, yes I do. The picture quality is pretty terrible, and locking a bunch of features behind inviting even more friends after you have already invited five and embarrassed yourself is just straight up obnoxious, and then you only unlock them for 24 hours. the whole app is highly manipulative and feels like it was designed in a lab. Also the delay to develop is just a weird gimmick to get you to open the app again. Basically it's kind of fun but the people running it think of their users as lab rats. There's not really anything specifically that makes this a go to, it's just a new flavor of the month for social media.

Great app, but…. This app is great! You take pictures and then wait for them to develop. Once they develop you have 3 options. Post it(for your friends to see), archive it(only you can see), or delete it. You can add anyone you want, as long as they accept your friend request. You can add a song to your profile. I love this feature, but the way they have the songs set up is odd. The app chooses a random time in the song of your choice, and it only plays for about 30 seconds. You don’t get to choose the moment in the song. This seems very unnecessary. If the developers see this, I request that you guys please add a feature where we can choose the time in the song. Please and thank you!!

New app who’s dis. New beginning!! Really enjoy how much I want to share, and the engagement I have with all the people who vibes, it’s not only socially not awkward. But it pushes you to be more social, and get to know others with mini clips of your fav pics. It gives me lots of confidence about my life, and the certainty of not being alone. Really best new social media app, you guys really thought of everything. One feed back suggestion, you should give us a set time when to come back for our pics when develop therefore we can create more and more. If we just wait 2-3 hours, we might come back after 5 hours and forget we even had develops. But if we come back sooner, it’s easier to get in the app more frequently.

Too many requirements. This app seems fun and I like the concept, my only gripe is all the requirements you need to do before actually creating your account. I understand trying to get people to join the app and create a buzz, but I’ve sent this to a couple of people that have stopped creating their account because of all the requirements. I wish there was an option to skip from adding people and inviting people. Also adding the widget is also a little annoying because not everyone wants to, and making that a requirement is wack. I’m sure there’ll be more people willing to create an account without all the things they have to do to advance toward they’re profile.

Y’all would definitely get more users if it wasn’t that annoying at the beginning I bet some people would even love to keep a private account without friends just for the fun of it but having to invite people ruins that.

sign up is so annoying i wasn’t even able to use the app. i downloaded the app because i got an invite from my friend and the concept seemed really cool and fun, sort of like a mesh between bereal and instagram? but the sign up is BEYOND frustrating. first it makes you add at least four friends and does not give you the option to skip. all of my current contacts on the app are acquaintances/people i barely know and i had no interest in adding them yet i had no choice if i wanted to use the app. then it forces you to invite five people. this is where i quit because it’s clear they’re just trying to get as many people to download the app as possible, which i understand but it’s also not the user’s job to do that for you? maybe provide an incentive to inviting people or something. i can’t even speak on the functionality of the app because i couldn’t get past the ridiculous sign up requirements.

I love it.. I think we could really have fun here. Keep the concept wholesome and simple- just like disposable cameras were. I am excited for new updates and for the app to fix a few bugs, but it really seems like a good vibes only and aesthetically pleasing way to capture moments. I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older I take less pictures than I used to, and I wanted to change that and then boom Lapse comes along. I love it so much. I just want a picture. I want to show my friends. I don’t want to make it instagram pretty. I just wanna take pictures of my dog and things I think are pretty and delicious beverages and candid photos of my friends and family and share them with the friends and family I don’t get to see often anymore. Also I love a good profile song.

Absolutely loving the app. Like the title says I absolutely am loving this app I love the way in which the devs are trying to push away from more of a “how many followers Do you have” pov and going with more of a close knit friends way of approaching this social platform it is refreshing I just wish there were some minor tweaks made like maybe a timer on the camera for those group photos you also would like to be in or maybe taking a self shot and no one can take the photo for you nonetheless still an amazing app I hope this app stays how it is from a wide point of view just need a couple tweaks in my opinion but hey who am I

Love this app. I love this app SO FRICKIN MUCH!!!! I use it all the time and take photos that are stunnin. Also, the creator(s) even took the time to add a section on how to fix certain problems, like the music not working previously. Only complaint is that they REMOVED the music entirely for who knows what reason. They’ve added like 3 updates since then and still have not fixed the issue or added music back. Lapse creator(s), PLEASE add the music back. It was fun and honestly great to see how people felt about their month through music or what their favorite song was on their profile. Seriously though, if you are considering downloading this app, DO IT. It’s truly amazing.

Love the app, a couple critiques.. first off, i’d like to say i hope this app becomes the next big thing and dethrones the current apps which have chokeholds on the market. i love the accessibility, and the profile customization is SO COOL. i love being able to share what music i’m into with just a quick glance at my profile, and the emojis on the profile picture is a nice touch as well. i also absolutely LOVED the intro to the app, coolest thing i’ve ever seen. my only complaints lie in the instant part of the app, they’re a little clunky to get to, being hidden in a notifications tab. i believe they should get their own tab at the bottom, and that they also shouldn’t be “hold down to open.” it’s a little clumsy to do, and with an app that’s already slow (it being a new app), it kind of takes you out of the immersive experience. also, i’d love to be able to add more than a few words at the bottom of an instant, the current character limit is much too small to say anything of value. all in all, i’m in love with the vintage vision for the app, i’m excited to see where it goes, and i appreciate the thoughtfulness you all have as a developer!

Disappointing App with Potential. So I love the concept and have been using lapse for a little over two months now. The pros: V cute way to stay in the moment and have cute photos The cons: Exporting photos is a nightmare - the watermark is huge and I don’t want it on my photos but i don’t have a choice. They just rolled out a remove watermark feature but it comes with a 24h ONLY time limit and you have to invite more friends to the app + share the app + journal within the app. The app is super buggy and unintuitive. Sometimes it shows photos that have already been developed as not developed, or it shares too much to the “feed” about you adding things to albums. Privacy wise they want access to your contacts to build up their base and they are constantly asking you to invite more people into the app. It’s starting to be waaay less fun and more invasive and annoying. I get that they want to grow but they need to work on the user experience significantly. It would be great if they had an auto save to camera roll function and more custom settings. Less pushing to share the app to gain access to key functions in the app would be excellent too. And less asking for my information etc. So yeah. Download at your own risk I guess?? If they don’t change things I’ll be gone!

Cool idea, needs some tweaks. Like many others have mentioned, the sign up process is kind of a pain. You shouldn’t have to invite others before you’re able to use the app. It’s a cool idea and if it didn’t make you do that I think more people would be into it. The concept is super cool and it’s been fun to share photos and react to other peoples photos. Feels kind of like if Snapchat had evolved with social media instead of turning into an unusable app with a bunch of ads. That is also the direction that Instagram is going as well so this feels like a nice respite from seeing ads everywhere. I really hope they don’t decide to include ads in the user experience. I’m excited to see how this app evolves and improves over time.

Fun new app could be even better. I am really enjoying lapse! It’s like a combo digital camera app, early days of snap stories and be real all came together. The more people that get on it the even better it will be but I’m enjoying it just as my own journal as well My biggest critique or note is that I think snaps develop too quickly. Make it more analog, give me time to forget what I did, 6 hours, next day, even 2 days! As far as I can tell it’s not meant to be an immediate thing, we have plenty of other apps for that. Make it more like a real camera, we used to have to use up the whole roll of film THEN still wait for the photos to develop once we dropped them off. Take it for what it is… TLDR: try this app it’s a fun new photo journal

Terrible Start. TLDR: If you don’t want us to care about followers and want to emphasize on the intimacy that photos have, which is what you advertise, don’t require us to follow X amount of people immediately. Right off the bat, this app required me to add 8 people. You could default and add all 100 people it recommended you, but you needed to have no less than 8. It was an unskippable step. Nothing on the screen gave me an option to come back to this later, even exiting and reopening the app took me directly to this step. Incredibly frustrating because this app is invite only. What if I didn’t even have 8 people I personally knew to add? Am I supposed to just add random people? Ironic, because this is an app that advertises on not wanting users to care about followers, and wanting to bring back the intimacy of photos. If you don’t want us to care about followers, don’t require us to follow people.

LOVE IT but disappointed. I downloaded this app as soon as it was available and it was so much fun. I love everything about it and was using it everyday, multiple times a day. A little over a week ago my app crashed and it logged me out. I haven’t been able to get past the phone number screen to get back in. 😞 beyond disappointed that I can’t access this app while all my friends are enjoying it around me. I have contacted customer service 3 times and I keep getting a “reclaim your account” notification. When I click it nothing changes. I still cannot get past the phone number screen. I was able to access it on my iPad so my account is not the issue. It’s just the app on my phone. I really wish this issue would be fixed. 1 star until I can use this on my phone again. 😞💔 I really want to love this app but can’t without being able to use it…

Save your time, skip this app. I have literally never been so frustrated with an app to want to write a review. But the rating should be much lower than the 4.8 currently on the app store. This app gives Gen Z vibes, which could have been fun and cool, if not for how difficult it is to use this app. It takes you through a painfully slow introduction you have to watch about how we need to rewind to the days of film photography. Then you are prompted (read: forced) to add 8 existing users to be your friend, people you may not have talked to in years. On top of that, you are also required to invite at least 5 new friends to join the app. It was so much work that I barely signed up for the app before embarrassingly reaching back out to my friends to undo the invite and tell them it's not worth it. I cannot stand behind this app at its current state and recommend to others. Even something as simple as deleting your account is TEDIOUS. There's a two step verification that's really more like 10 steps. It makes me want to throw my phone. I tried to fill out the feedback form also and same thing - too many steps and required answers. Skip this app and download a film camera/filter app instead. I'll stick to insta/snap (though Bereal seems better than this too).

YOU HAVE TO PAY TO NOT HAVE A LOGO ON THE PICTURE???????. Are you kidding me lapse. You REALLY went and did that?? Just like every other app that died because it started out great and then cost money? Especially in this economy? Shame. When I first got lapse I loved it. I told everyone it’s great because it’s like another vsco but all the pictures come out unique. I would post my pictures on other platforms WITH and without the logo because I liked it both ways but for sentimental pictures of my boyfriend I preferred them not there and other pictures I use for my editing AND NOW I HAVE TO PAY OR ELSE I GET A PICTURE OF GRUMPY CAT? FOR SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS THAT????? I’m. Livid. You creators are greedy. Be more like clash of clans or among us where you *can* pay to get that premium good good content but you don’t *have* to pay to be treated just as fairly. If y’all’s “good good” content is the whole reason for the app its not that good at all, is it?

Almost so great, but then it tried too hard. I can (almost) forgive the pyramid scheme structure of the app, but I draw the line at the millennial quips I am subjected to at every turn. Please— if a developer sees this— tell your copywriting team……to chill out. Idk who the target audience is. But every time I “develop” photos and start to have a modicum of Lapse appreciation…I am force fed the quips and immediately feel embarrassed that I have agreed to use this app. The app design is pretty, the tactile effects are fun, the lack of ads (for now I presume) is refreshing. The filters are genuinely cool. The concept is kinda silly, but whatever— I knew what I was getting into. Think pieces have already been written about the insane force-invites (lol) so I’ll save my breath. I turned off notifications 2 days in, because it was overwhelming and full of more of the eye-rolling marketing language.

unnecessary set up process..

Fan. The filters that it picks out for my pics are always on point. I like the widget on the lock screen feature, easy and fast to get to. It is annoying that when you first download it it makes you invite five friends like, what if you don’t have five friends? Or what if all your friends already have it? I like that the journals are divided into months and the previews are sick. I like the profile selects, very nice. I like the profile emojis, creative. I don’t like the send a vibe to see a vibe. I don’t like the lapse stamp that it leaves on pics if you’re trying to download them or post them on other platforms, gives a tacky feel. There was a music feature that I was a big fan of but they haven’t brought it back, so I’m still waiting for that. Over all, this is my kind of app. Worth a download 🌞

I like it but... I like this app, the filter is amazing and I love the idea of it. Theres 2 reasons I’m giving it 3 stars though. The first being that you can’t add photos from your gallery. I get why the app doesn’t have this feature to more properly imitate a disposable camera. But I still think it would be nice to have past photos “developed” through the app. The second reason I’m giving it 3 stars is because I hate that you have to add friends and post everyday for a week just to be able to edit your photos? I get that it’s to get people to use the app more but it makes the majority of people just delete the app and not like it. But really all I beg for is being able to develop photos from the gallery so I can have my old photos turned to film.

YAY. this app is such a fun way to connect with friends without worrying about likes/follows/comparisons. it feels more personal than other forms of social media which i love! the pics always turn out so cute too. i will say that the beginning experience of creating an account was kind of frustrating and it took me about an 45 minutes to finish setting it up because of lags and it wouldn’t load after i added friends. the fact that you have to share with five people before you can even use the app was also frustrating but i understand the intent behind it because of the newness of the app. overall i think this app is amazing and i can't wait to use it more.

Trying too hard. First off, the audacity this app has to force you to add 5 people to continue, ASK 5 people to download, permission for contacts and camera and have a widget is simply too much. Then, if you choose to delete your account you’re BANNED from using it with the same phone number again? Really turned me off to wanting to give the app the time of day. It’s super clunky and lots of annoying bugs. The interface is similar to tinder imo with the emojis and the swiping left/right. It’s advertises itself as being more “authentic” but it’s clearly just as curated as instagram as you can chose what photos to show and and can put photos from camera roll on your profile. The disposable camera idea is cool but we already have apps for that, i’ve been using Dispo for years. It’s an okay idea but do we really need another fake “authenticity” social media?

Awesome app! Finally a no “in app purchases” disposal camera app. I’ve been waiting for this forever, saving so much on film and able to get the film feel in an organic spontaneous fashion! However, for the last 4 days my app has been crashing so I haven’t been able to view my thanksgiving lapse picture or use it - so bummed about the memories I’ve missed out on. 5 stars for the app but they need to fix this crashing issues!!! (Note for the developers - app buttons are a little clunky, need a better way to get to the “feed” and for the love of all things photo please fix the crashing issue!!!!!) (yes I have updated the app - issue still not fixed)

Keeps send notifications. I have this and I have it set to where it only shows how many notifications I have on it but lately I have been getting random notifications that my snaps have developed even though I didn’t take any pictures. I am assuming it does that based on how long ago you took pictures, but I find it really annoying because I will click on the notification but no snaps/pictures are there so if the creators of this app could fix this it would be amazing. Besides that, it is a really fun alternative to Snapchat. It is more safe and you can’t call or anything like that. If someone wants to be a friend with you, they have to ask first and no one can see your “story” if they are not following you unless you submit a photo to get featured. Also, the app is fully updated so that shouldn’t be why this is happening

Fun but currently full of glitches. I have really enjoyed the concept of this app. When it works, I love it and want to share photos all the time! But currently there are so many bugs and glitches that it makes me give up. My snapped photos straight up disappear and don’t load, both from the lock screen and the app. I’ve taken so many that I’m excited by only to check my dark room and they’re not there. Yes I have updated the app. Sometimes I can barely scroll through the feed without it freezing. The inbox lags and I have to restart the app to see notifications. When these are fixed I will be using the app way more often!

Amazing app, would love and pay for automatic export option. This is such a thoughtful new social media app. It really is much lower maintenance and more natural to use regularly than any other platform, and I’ve gotten my whole friend group active on here. The built-in filter is beautiful. What would make the app perfect is an option for automatic export as you take photos, with options to save both filtered and unfiltered photos, at the highest quality possible. I find myself taking lots of photos both on and off Lapse because I do want to keep a non-filtered version for posterity, so it’s a bit of a pain point to switch back and forth.

Here for the aesthetic. What a fun way to focus on the creative, brief snapshot from your personal perspective! The app is still in early phases with bugs to pick out, however I am so excited to keep sharing the snapshots of my life with friends alike. Yay Lapse! lol The first step is to upload pictures or to take a snapshot to be developed. Like a disposal camera, you can’t see what your snapshot image looks like until it’s developed, but in Lapse, it’s just a “darkroom” until the app alerts you of its development. I like the idea of a quick pic, move on, look later. It really takes the harsh criticality we put on ourselves. Really love it, super aesthetic, v kitschy, 10/10, would recommend!

So disappointed. I love the concept of this app: vintage filters, photo developing time, friends not followers, living in the moment. But WHY are y’all trying so hard??? If something is good people WILL gravitate to it. Forcing people to add friends and invite people just to use the app in the first place is ridiculous. Not to mention that the app is always glitchy. First you force us to bring people to your app, but then you don’t even have it together enough to support the usage? It’s actually embarrassing for y’all on the lapse team!!!! Get it together!!! AND NOW instead of taking a screenshot to avoid the ugly and boastful icon, I have to invite even more people to your app just so I can download a picture? I’m not impressed and honestly so disappointed. This has so much potential but you’re ruining it. Beautiful things don’t need recognition, and you guys are obsessed with yourselves.

on the fence, but having fun so far. What I like most about this app is the absence of ads, brands, and am algorithm deciding what I see. I hope that when this app monetizes, there’s a way to retain that and also protect privacy. Maybe the user-base will have ideas or input on that. It’s important to have ways to stay connected with and interact with people we actually know. The theme of making it look/act like a disposable or point-and-shoot film camera seems contrived or silly at first (remember when IG started with that vibe?), but it really removes the urge to take GOOD photos, or worrying too much about how I/people look. The iPhone is capable of really nice digital photography and I enjoy doing that too, but Lapse prioritizes capturing and sharing more easily and often. The next thing I’d change on it is allowing it to support/display landscape orientation. I always used my real cameras oriented that way most often, so the snapshots here should be able to rotate 90 degrees in some way, even if it’s not automatic. I appreciate that this app doesn’t DO too much, so you can explore it all quickly, but I still don’t find the UI/navigation very intuitive.

I’m Pro Lapse But…. Love the concept, design, and attitude of the app and I hope it continues to grow even more in popularity. However, the pressure to immediately add two people, then invite 5 more people, and being forced to watch the instructional screens repeatedly when navigating this already intuitive app is annoying. I hesitate to call my issues with Lapse “dark” UX patterns but at the very least they’re annoying and kind of stressful UX/UI patterns to have in place. Ultimately, I’d like to experience the app and see if I like it before inviting my friends to it. I don’t even invite friends out to a bar unless I’ve checked out the vibe myself first. Luckily, you can invite people already on the app, I wouldn’t have made it past the onboarding steps otherwise.

Loved until recent update. Absolutely loved this app and the photos it took, until today when I noticed the app is now blocking screenshots. Just the most annoying possible feature. It makes it ten times more difficult to get pictures taken of you saved to your phone, which was one of the best parts of the app, the spontaneity of taking the photos. It’s now impossible to have those photos actually saved to your phone without having to make the other person save and send them to you. And of course, you have to now save them with a logo. Which is just lame and really changed how I viewed the app. Taking my photos through lapse used to be preferred, now I doubt I’ll be using it very much at all just because of the annoyance that these features cause. Super disappointing from what could’ve become my favorite social media app.

Allow Screenshots.. No one is going to want to keep this app around if you keep making people jump through so many hoops to access essential features. It’s clear that many people don’t like the ugly watermark it places on all of your photos, which is why many people had to work around it with screenshots. It totally ruins the photo with an ugly banner across the entire bottom of the image. The app was already hard enough to access. No one wants to have to spam 8 of their friends in order to see if they even like the app. Now we have to do it every 5 days just to access a feature that should be essential? If you truly make a good app, word will spread about it on its own. You don’t have to force your branding down everyone’s throat and make your app interface so cumbersome that no one wants to use it anymore.

Cute but increasingly scammy. This app is a complete pain to actually get into, but once you’re in, the concept and interface are great; however, they seem to be implementing new features to artificially inflate how much new users join up that severely negatively impact the experience. For example, at first I could download any of my pictures to my camera roll, at any time. Now, I have to invite three new friends and share the app to a separate social media account (totally defeats the point of trying to switch to this one) just to be able to get access to downloading my own photos without a ridiculous logo and time stamp, and the access only lasts for 24 hours. It’s annoying enough that I’d almost rather they just asked for money to sign up for a “premium” experience instead. I’ll likely be uninstalling, which is a shame.

Perfect app EVERYONE. Initially when my friend sent me an Invite I was like, “oh boy here we go… another friggin app.” Annoyed by having to invite 5 ppl (idk 5 ppl hahaha/syke) Reluctantly I give it a try and setup a profile and add the widget to my Lock Screen and go on about my day… However I find that everyday randomly throughout the day I’d like to quickly “capture the moment.” And guess what I have this widget thingy on my Lock Screen for quick access to a retro style camera! The novelty is that you snap your shot and are forced to keep it moving because IT HAS TO GO TO THE DARKROOM TO DEVELOP!!!! so as you’re going on with your day you randomly get a notification for some amazing memory you captured earlier in the day! It can literally change your mood because if you’ve snapped a quick pic of your dog, let’s say, and go on with your day and it’s terrible for some reason then BAM a notification and you develop the photo in suspense and tadaaaa it’s a picture of your cute fluffy doggy that brings you back to life! I love the app and this is my 1st ever review of an app period let alone for the IPhone #stayblessed

Super aggressive “marketing” features. You have to invite 5 people NOT on the app to even have access to it. You can’t unlock the feature to export without the logo unless you invite 3 more people. It only takes photos in 9:16 format, with 3:4 exporting also only unlocked after the “invite 3 more people” thing. And will block if you try to screenshot. At this point it seems like the app is trying way to hard to get the word out that it’s operating like a pyramid scheme, which damages new people’s perception of the app immediately. I don’t want to spam my friends. And it makes me wonder why so many aggressive features have been implemented, when that app developing time could have been spent improving other features. Otherwise the idea of this app seems really cute and great, don’t think I want to keep using it though if it’s going to stay like this.

Non-Stop Crashes. Every time I use this app it freezes up on me and crashes. I go to view my developed snaps and they won’t open. If they do open it freezes on the first one, and I can’t archive or delete or share. I am forced to close the app and reopen it. If I go to view my notifications, I cannot click on any of them because the app freezes. I am somehow able to take photos but again this is useless when I can’t actually view them or do anything with them once they develop. I have updated the app several times since I first download it. I have updated my iOS to the newest software. And still the app freezes and crashes on me continuously rendering it inoperable. I think the app produces great photos and it’s a wonderful idea which I was very excited about but now I am disillusioned with the app as it is completely non-functional at this point on my device.

Continues to access contacts even after turning off. I specifically set up the app after installation to not access my contacts. I got a notification from my app today that someone I know joined. Lapse should have no way to know we know each other or to suggest them since we have 0 mutual friends. Again: I. Turned. Off. Contacts. Access. I turned it off. The app should not be suggesting contacts and should not be storing that information. As others have pointed out, this is a blatant data grab and I’m frankly horrified that a company would be so shady with user data, especially since they seem to market to kids and teens. I checked the privacy policy and terms of use, and it says that contacts and the data there is a contractual obligation, however in a developer response to another one star review criticizing the same thing I am, they say it is “optional to use the app”, so which is the truth?
