• Write characteristic values back to the peripheral as string, numeric or hex.

• See a history of the value of a characteristic since the session started, timestamped to when the value changed.

• Log found peripherals, services, characteristics and values, and export a .log file of timestamped events for your analysis.

• Shortcuts integration with actions for scanning and interrogation, enumerating services and characteristics, and reading values.

• Background scanning by advertised service IDs with device count mapped by location found and status shown in a Live Activity.

Constant use of Bluetooth connectivity can drain your device's battery. Bluetooth connectivity is only used when this app is in the foreground and up to a few seconds after being backgrounded to safely disconnect from peripherals being interrogated, unless Background Scanning is enabled in the app and the Live Activity is running.

Bluetooth Inspector Comments & Reviews 2026

Awesome. Fixed all my problems

Misunderstood. I originally bought this on my iPhone. Suddenly it showed up in the App Store without compatibility for Catalina and I rated it poorly for lack of support! In all reality, it was my mistake. I thought it was like GarageBand that removed support for Catalina - but that is not the case. The app developer released this for MacOS after Big Sur came out and it uses APIs that are not available in Catalina. I can't use it (until Big Sur removes the ContentFilterExclusionList in 11.2) yet! It is, however, great on iPhone and iPad!

Mind blown. I love this app. Does what it’s suppose to. And one of the few apps that can pick up the MRNA jabbed as unknown or iRobot corp. good to know how many zombies are around.

Highly recommend. App does most of the homework

No other BLE app comes close. Every other BLE app feels half finished / not suitable for anything outside of development. This supports Automation, meaning it supports reading and writing values with voice commands. It’s not even fair how much better that fact alone makes Bluetooth Inspector if you are a maker and want to control any BLE device with your phone.

Works great on 13.4.1. I do not see any problems with this app on my iPhone. I see just about every Bluetooth enabled device around my apartment and other units. Great detail. I’d love to know what the status icon color changes mean.

Love the app, but.... I cannot find a way to clear the cache. I have BLE device that has the ability to change model numbers, but the app only shows the first one it saw. When I change the advertised model name, this app doesn't show the new name. I can see the new name with other apps, and it appears that the model number is cached. There is no obvious control to clear cache, and there is no contact email displayed anywhere to ask a question. I'm hoping to maybe get a response in this review.

Just Works. And works well. Read about it in a WAPO column. Blew me away. I would have guessed that I had 5 or 6 devices nearby. How naive am I. It was more like 20 including a neighbor’s TV. What to do with this information? Not much yet, maybe one day it will help diagnose a pesky BT connection. But for now, it’s a great app for awareness building. Thank you George & thanks for keeping it free.

Could use more stuff. Sorry for it being 4 stars but i am having trouble finding my black shark Lucifer t2 earpods what I recommend is adding the name and etc so it can be a bit better thanks for understanding

Something is not right. Is it normal to have 80 devices shown being in my home

Restore purchase problems. I have paid for this app several times and keep having a issue with restoring my purchase on my other devices

Good and could be great app. This app does the most thorough scan for devices that Bluetooth detects. I have used many other tools in the past and none were able to detect much; however, this app was initially able to detect 30 devices, showing the signal strength of each and even revealing Core Errors and more. I plan to purchase the pro version to see those features but I haven’t yet because first I want to learn about what the definitions are and to find out if I’m seeing what I should expect to see on my scan. I feel that this is where the app falls short. I also know it wouldn’t be too difficult to provide the user with some definitions and screen examples…even some resource links would be useful. Besides that, great app!

Can’t Restore Purchase. Was working fine for about half hour. Now I can’t restore purchase or access the complete log features.

BT Inspector. This is a useless app as is … when you pay for the app, you really get nothing …. GPS info is collected but not displayed in Session dump, You cannot rename/customized BT entry, no user document, the developer has no easy way to feedback to him …. Things to add and improve: 1) Allow changing the name of a BT device to indicate what it is (ex: Bill iPhone, John TV, etc) - Store that info so when it seen again, you know. 2) Add the GPS position to each device in the Session dump file 3) Allow blocking or non-display of known BT device(s) (ex: do not display your personal devices, just everybody else, etc) 4) Add link to developer feedback for the app 5) Provide and allow adding a picture for device (ex: if it a phone, use a icon for a phone, if a printer, icon for a printer you can add) 6) Store all this data on phone and cloud where ever so it inly entered once. Thank you

A little gem of a tool. Not a lot to say, this is a wonderful and clean app that provides a nice clean interface to see what is in the air around you. It provides fantastic detailed insight into the bluetooth devices around you. I even discovered some things I hadn’t realized were broadcasting (like my Nvidia Shield TV remote is always on!). I love finding unbloated tools like this that follow the philosophy of doing one thing and doing it well. Everyone should try it to gain a level of knowledge about security and all of the chatter that devices do these days.

LEGIT AS F***!!!. Plain and simple, if your into who is honing in on your calls, txt messaging, and accessibility to your microphone and camera via Bluetooth because they have credential access (network providers) and all networking applications, or you shared your network hot spot, Bluetooth, wifi connection(s). This app will save you an eminence amount of time researching!

Wonderful. This really helps, as we know some strange things have been going around our house. I haven’t noticed any bugs yet, BUT...I’m not complaining!!! Thanks for this app!! Very useful.

Can't resize app window on macOS 12.3. Can't resize app window on macOS 12.3 for some reason. For vision reason I have display resolution larger and it would help if I can resize the app window so it fits on screen. Can you fix? I tried looking for a support contact email but did not find one so I'm leaving a review. Thanks in advance.

Disappointment. The app presents a devices UUID but has no idea what a MAC address is. Given that it doesn’t seem to be able to interrogate the devices announced names. It makes it nearly impossible to know exactly what device you’re interrogating. This won’t work for me. Had to delete the app. ☹️

Question. When you interrogate are they seeing your device name ? If it says my iPad name is Steven iPad , will they know Steven iPad is trying to connect

Strange, perhaps unethical but impressive. How is this even legal? How does this work? How is it even legal, ethical? Is it safe to tap 'interrogate'? I do not particuarly like the interface and I am wondering how this is even legal yet still in awe of how amazing it works... Moreover, when i tapped it, it starts showing my laptop as 'connected' to several nearby devices even those that were not mine...

Outstanding App my favorite. I couldn’t have imagined the results this app would produce I highly recommend

Too buggy to be of use. Presents one long list of devices named and unknown all mixed up, not sorted by signal strength or any other way. List of devices found only grows, devices no longer available still remain in the list as active.

iOS 14.5 Public Beta broke this app. App crashes immediately after showing progress indicator. I have deleted and reinstalled the app. App has permission for Bluetooth. Cool app I hope the developer fixes the issue. ——- Update: thank you for responding to this issue. I appreciate how a bug in the beta OS could make your app look bad, and I agree that’s not fair. I kept this app on my phone specifically because I found it useful, not obnoxious, etc. I was disappointed when it didn’t work on my phone. Looking forward to a resolution to the issue.

Should be Paid. This is a free tool that offers a lot of utility. If you need it, you need it.

Not really a good app. It doesn’t really do anything much except make someone paranoid! It shows all the so called devices but you can’t block them or get any info on them

Needs to better identify devices. I see many devices detected by bluetooth but states it as "unknowns." I have no idea what it is. It'd also be nice to show distance between device and program but that's just wishful thinking. I honestly think MacOS should take the lead on this as their bluetooth UI is very limited.

Great app. This app does what it says, accurate with signal strength. I paid for pro version and in my opinion it was worth it. Thanks for a good app as well as good app support.

Intriguing Application. Good job George, I feel like everyone who will use this application will feel like using a tricorder in a way. :) Keep striving to make it better because the effort itself will yield its own reward.

Instructions?. I feel like an adult version of my ten-year-old self trying to win street fighter by choosing random buttons. Except this time, potential losses include my already rocky marriage. 😂 Is there any way that multiple "iPhone 13 Pros" (with different signal levels) would be coming from only one phone and showing under both connected and unconnected? Seems doubtful.

Being spied on. This unit works fairly well it would be worth it’s weight in gold if it gave the phone number or the Bluetooths gmail/ emails name aka the owners Name also!!!!

Small issue. Downloaded to troubleshoot BT signal from my laptop. after replacing its BT PCIe card my headphones have intermittent connection and audio stutters This app does find the signal but only shows initial strength. Doesn’t seem to refresh because strength percentage never changes unless I force quit and reopen.

Can be helpful, but.... Works great with devices you want to connect with, but I don’t want to connect to, what I believe to be, my neighbor’s Bluetooth headphones to do the discovery. This is where the problem comes in. It keeps asking, and asking, and asking... consent is an issue especially with wireless and a device that are not yours. Local laws around my area say that is a violation and can include fines to attempt and/or use wireless devices that are not yours without consent. Quick fix would be to ask once and remember the response.

Works great!. This app have been really useful for me. But I still can’t get my apple devices that signed in with the same iCloud to show the battery. I can see my devices but no matter what I do, it won’t show the battery info. Any suggestions to fix this? Thank you

I’m a bit confused about this I downloaded. Because I felt like have been targeted by someone I use my Bluetooth a lot at home and work my question to the developer is that under the start interrogating named in then the unknown which looks like the device is hooked up to me is it???? Cause I didn’t give permission to these devices I am seeing on my phone can you please answer this question because it looked like they hooked up to my Bluetooth iPhone or am I being paranoid???

Really great. I find it really interesting. Been having trouble trying to find my Bluetooth LED strips, though.

Ok. I accidentally connected to my neighbors baby monitor

Waste of my time. So unfortunately this does work but it doesn’t work on all Bluetooth devices I currently lost my headphones and I just found them and I tried to trace them and they did not pop up :/so I’m guessing if you have AirPods or something it might work But other than that it did not work for me

I like it. This app is very clean and works well however wish it supported notify for BLE.

Example on shortcut to write character value. Can you put a screen shot to show how to use shortcut to automatically write character values ?

Great!. Great! Wish there was a button to reset/clear. Gets cluttered quickly because it remembers everything. Works awesome though.

Looks great so far. I like that it show and updates all devices in range continually, I have some devices that the manufacture ID is unknown, how do I pull the 12 digit mac from the 32 bit ID given? I tried the 3 blocks of 4 characters between the long blocks without success.

Crashes and locks up often on macOS. This app works rather well on iOS, but on macOS it crashes and locks up often. Hopefully this gets fixed because it is an otherwise useful utility.

This the one. Best BLE scanner on the App Store. If you’re doing any BLE stuff - use this one.

Worth buying pro. its a really good utility app for finding transmitted singals, you should definitely buy the pro version to write to devices and get locations

Maybe it's just BigSur.... I am having quite a time just trying to sync my Lofree keyboard. The app doesn't offer instructional guidance in terms of how to sync up devices that my mac doesn't recognize, or what certain numbers mean relative to identifying unkown devices... So yeah, 1.99 down the drain.

Crashes. App crashes right after opening it I wish it worked though iOS 14.5

App great. The app is great. It however will not allow me to join any of the devices scanned unless I buy the Pro version. I refuse to on principle and my account doesn’t have .50 or .99 that it asks for. I think that this is ridiculous but if that be the way it is then that be the way it is.

.... Malicious background activity. Making daily attempts to scan and interrogate bt devices at 7pm cst, every day if my phone is asleep at that time (with app fully closed, with global bluetooth setting off, and bypassing native privacy log). Not a good sign.

Super disappointing : (. When i downloaded and opened the app i was met with frustration. It couldn't find any bluetooth devices even know i had one right next to me. The blue tooth device wasn't even locating my phone or connecting to it so i downloaded the app in hopes it would actually appear as a blue tooth device for my phone. But i only got 0/0 blue tooth devices on the app and i checked my sisters phone and she was connected to several. Disappointed that it couldn't even track down one.

App keeps crashing. Poor

Amazing, but missing two features. This app is amazing, and pro is pretty cheap too, although I would like an option to remove devices that have disconnected from my phone from the list, and it doesn’t show the battery percentage of devices that I haven’t paired to my phone, which is a feature I expected considering the advertising. Although this probably isn’t possible. Otherwise, this app does exactly what it says, and it does it really well!

Req. Would be good to default to MAC if unknown

Fast, detailed, and useful. That said, doesn't always pick up all device info. Some peripherals (such as Apple track pads) don't show up, or only show up as device string numbers - can't tell. Could it interrogate the OS for more info? That may be up to Apple to allow or not. An option to sort by name would be handy.

Mixed feelings. The App listed all kinds of BT services from my neighbours' TVs and soundbars, but did not find the BT speaker in my office, that was in Pairing mode.

Nice tool. I found my earbud outside with the app.

MAC address inspector. Been using this app for years. It used to pick up only 30-60 signals on a busy Tokyo subway car pre-2020 and was quite responsive, but post 2020 I’ll get mid 100s to low 1000s in a 60 second scan (1000-1800%+ number of signals in only a few years), but the app will now completely slow down, almost to the point that my iPad will freeze up. Is there any way to boost performance without buying a new iPad?

Slow and Naggy. Slow. Doesn't show all the info for the BT devices and asks for a rating avery 3 minutes.

Finds Nothing. I gave the app the permissions it asked for and verified them but it finds zero devices in a household full of them. Maybe an iOS 18 bug?

Makes no sense. Just gives a giant list of constantly shifting devices making it impossible to select one. Anything that you couldn’t track using Find My shows up as unknown so pretty useless. One you go into the map it give you a bunch of numbered dots with no indication what the numbers represent. You then can close the map. You are to close the app, reopen and start over. Waste of money

Very Useful | Android when?. Love the app, hope it stays the same, and same for the one time payment. But I would like the app to also be available on Android which can even make the app more powerful and useful.

App crashes. App fails to boot and instantly crashes on iOS 14.5

All devices unknown. Unknowm its just unknown you its unknown

Safety. Is this App a spy ware? because I noticed unbeknown to friends and family with this app I can capture their Bluetooths, and that left me wondering.

Awesome. Fixed all my problems

No info on how to use and what means what.. They don’t reply.

Crashes continually. App appears to crash whenever you click on a device to get more information about it...

Yes. It is an app

doesnt work welll and. not accurate and cannot see distance, nor can change metric. pretty useless

This APP says it’s FREE. WHY $1.99?!. This comes up as FREE. IT ALSO DOES NOT state there are in app purchases, yet to do anything - it’s $1.99??!!

Review. Constantly blue tooth keep adding connection with other iPhone . Not protecting the privacy

Excellent! It’s been fixed! But tvOS concern…. It no longer crashes when I attempt to make the in app purchase, so I will be doing that as soon as I have some money In the account… I need to edit this to react to “Mr. Safety“. It is one thing to insert a bit of paranoia into your app concerns, quite another to base your entire review upon that paranoia. We are supposed to review the app in these reviews, not spread conspiracy theories. So I have marked that particular app review “not helpful” and I also reported a concern about the app reviewer… please review the apps in here, don’t spread weirdness. However: I was also concerned about the way this app was revealing all kinds of nearby BT devices. Until I realized, that is what this app is FOR. But there is one detail I need to bring up to the developer: and that has to do with the tvOS version of this app, which is the first version I installed. I don’t know if it is because the app was installed into my Apple TV 4K, or if it was the nature of the app and itself- I believe this thing that I witnessed only occurs in the Apple TV version. And it is this: When the app is installed into an Apple TV 4 or 4K, it constantly pings my Siri Remote on several ports. There is one “unknown“ device in the list that is showing over 40% signal and I am assuming that this is my remote. It has no label but it starts with 7DFC6000. There is definitely a lot of activity going on with this device within the app, I believe thus may be my remote reacting as BT Inspector constantly pounds my remote to try to return information. In fact I have two unknown devices listed that use the same hex ID. I believe this constant interrogation causes the battery in my Siri Remote to drain RAPIDLY. I had just gotten a new silver ATV 4K Siri Remote last August because my original black remote had a dead lithium battery. The new silver replacement not only has an additional click wheel, but it has been lasting up to 70-80 whole days on one charge. Which just gives me one less thing to worry about charging all the time. Then one day out of the blue, after I had just charged the remote to 100%, the charge in my remote dropped down to 20% within 3 hours. The only apps I had installed were an app called “TOP” and BT Inspector. My ATV4K is on tvOS 15.4.1, so I AM using the latest OS on THAT device… I instantly deleted both apps and the battery drain stopped. But since TOP is simply a performance data collector, I had to go with BT inspector being the culprit. Note: BT Inspector drained my remote even when the tvOS app was not even running! So there must be some process installed by the app that continues to ping my Bluetooth devices, including my Siri remote, even when the app is not running in the main window, or running at all. Because I had the app turned off and it still gobbled my battery up within four hours. Which is why I installed it into my iPhone 8 Plus, despite the effect on my Siri remote from the TV version: this was just telling me that the app is doing as it was designed to do. Just remember to not keep this running in your Apple TV, in fact it is a good idea to offload the app when not in use. Right now I am at 98% after about three days… I am going to start a stopwatch after I reinstall the app and then I will check on the state of the battery every hour or so. It appears that the TV version is 1.1.1. I have reinstalled it into my Apple TV and I turned the app scanning function off and then put the app to sleep, I am now waiting to see if it affects my battery again. This is the only real concern I have with the app and it is mostly with the Apple TV version of the app. I don’t think the app has been updated since I originally installed it, that was about a week to two weeks ago. (Previous) I received a developer response, no, updating to iOS 15 is not a solution that is viable. For one thing I have to stay at 14.6 because I am a beta tester for several apps and they have all requested that I stay on 14.6 and 14.3 on my other devices, because they need to see how their app responds on certain devices with earlier firmware. So no, this is not a me problem or an iOS 14 problem, this is an issue with the app itself: it happens on both iOS 14.3 and on iOS 14.6 so it’s not the iOS that is the problem, you have something in your app in the settings area that crashes the app when the upgrade purchase link is pressed. If I had a way of contacting you directly I could send you the crash logs. But the solution is not for me to update, I cannot do that right now. This single problem is preventing me from purchasing the in-app features. (Previous Review) When I try to purchase the pro version. I have a substantially older version of the app installed on a different device, and the pro button comes up on that one. But on iOS 14.6, when I press the button to purchase pro, the whole app CRASHES.

pretty good. so many hackers with apple

@@@. Not bad

Ok. I accidentally connected to my neighbors baby monitor

Should be Paid. This is a free tool that offers a lot of utility. If you need it, you need it.

Good for pro or newby. Awesome app high recommend!

This the one. Best BLE scanner on the App Store. If you’re doing any BLE stuff - use this one.

A+. Thank you

Buried Summary. Of the several hundred available devices, summary information can only be gained by opening one device at a time. It is a fools task. Having a UUID filter alone would improve things.

I'm looking for precise distance of all these devices. Does it even do that? SignL strength?? What's that gonna do for me? Enlighten me.

Keeps asking me to pair with “fenix 3”. I can’t bypass the annoying pop up pairing notification (click on cancel doesn’t work) of my apparent neighbor’s “fenix 3” fitness GPS watch by Garmin. Frustrating.

Question. When you interrogate are they seeing your device name ? If it says my iPad name is Steven iPad , will they know Steven iPad is trying to connect

???. Found several devices including one with Zero signal (?). That's about it. Nothing useful to ID anything. Not like the preview pics.

Glad to give bad. I’m glad my good reviewing post didn’t even get posted because you don’t even deserve good reviews I wish I could give no stars like negative stars

Immediately crashes. App wont open

Needs tp be update. Constant crashing on Sequoia, no updates in a year, is this a dead app?

A little strange. Strange application but very good :)

Useful and free. Useful and free

Hm. Does this app help connect to blue tooth devices

Amazing app, though having issues with crashes. This app is amazing, one of the best bluetooth-related apps i've seen on the app store. Though, it crashes very often, on MacOS when viewing a device's details, and on iOS when there's too much nearby devices (usually more than 50.) This makes the application almost unusable. This is on iOS 17.1 (17.1 Beta 1) and MacOS Sonoma (14.1 Beta 1).

Something is wrong. I know I can’t expect much on iPhone side, but I do expect it to be functional in some way. I have purchased the pro version, but it doesn’t seem to have improved things. It might just be the area that I live in. I hit scan, and I get about 80-100 devices listed as Unknown in an unknown area around me. Even interrogating everything, does not update the screen, but I get requests from all my neighbors iPhones and iPads to connect to my phone. What it does not do is find or connect to my Bluetooth speaker sitting 5 feet away. This is not useful. It seems that I don’t have all of the controls or the ability to go further into the app. Or access to support. The map would be useful if I could zoom in closer than a 1000 square feet so all I see is my location buried under a cluster of unknown devices. I don’t know what it would look like on other devices but if this is it for the iPhone then I am just not impressed. Sorry, but I really did want it to succeed because I need the information it promised and all I got was glitch.

Unusable, constantly crashes. Within a minute of opening the app it becomes unresponsive and crashes.

Works but connects you to other devices!. This app works when showing you other devices, but automatically connects you to them. Security flawed.

Don't buy the adapter. With this app you don'tneed to buy adapter. It amazing

Stupid. It don’t work

I like it. This app is very clean and works well however wish it supported notify for BLE.
