Tayasui Calligraphy—wonderful!. This little application is marvelous, that is, it is a marvel. It approaches very closely the act of writing with edged pen and makes adaptation of that tool to letters easy, enjoyable, and easily experimental. A truly fine job and gracious offering.

Not as advertised!. I’ve exhausted all manner of settings to create the font listed in the description that say ‘Round’ and ‘Brush’ but the end swish/mark never thins out - it stays the same with as regular writing pressure. The lift of the pen (Apple Pencil) should decrease the width of the font when a letter or word is finished.

Good, room for improvement. I feel quite limited by size of the canvas and the guidelines. The guidelines are way too big if you wanted to write anything more than a short word (55 slant). When I rotate my iPad to be in landscape mode it turns 55 slant into a 35 slant? Not sure why it does that. I also wish you could move the canvas similar to procreate. If I wanted to write on the left hand side I would need to zoom in. It won’t just let me center the left side of the canvas. Also zooming is kinda buggy.

Simple yet sufficient. I like the brush noise when you use the pen tool. It sounds like you’re dipping a pen into paper. The ink effect comes out nicely. However, I wish you could move the canvas around and have more options to adjust the brushes. It works fine but it could be improved.

Could be better. I downloaded this on spec because I love Tayasui’s sketch apps on my iPhone. When I saw there was a calligraphy app compatible with Apple Pencil, I had to get it to break in my iPad Pro. I am a bit disappointed at how lite the features are here. There is not much control and my first few experiences with the app left me slightly disappointed. More features would be greatly appreciated. A few random thoughts and suggestions: my hand triggers the brush unintentionally sometimes when I use my Apple Pencil. A move tool and/or layers would be appreciated. Pressure sensitivity on the black letter brush doesn’t appear to work. More Apple Pencil compatibility, for example the double-tap on pencil function. I’ll keep playing with this app, and maybe I’ll get better. Thanks!

Love it. I the application got much waited features, like layers and guides. Now it’s close to perfection. If only it could get more papers, guides and snapping, that would be grait (even for additional fee) just love it. It reminds me of my childhood, when I was making poster headings for school newspaper. Although quite simple, it is still my first choice. The only issue is that quite often while drawing by apple pencil my hand also leaves some marks. This could be simulated by constantly tapping your finger on screen.

No Response from Developer - BROKEN APP. *** Downgraded to 1 star *** It’s a real shame to have to downgrade this app which I loved to use almost everyday. Now it is unusable. I have waited over 2 weeks for a response from the developer and nothing. So I made sure my drawings were backed up via iCloud. They were. Then I reinstalled the app. Big mistake!!! Not only did I loose all my calligraphy drawings, but the app still does not work properly, and hangs up on the menus which freezes the app. This makes the app unusable. I also lost all my custom colors I added to my palette. Over a year’s worth of work just vanished. What good is it to have iCloud back-up if it doesn’t actually work? I’m so utterly crushed! All my other apps with iCloud back-up turned on work perfectly fine. You can tell how much I loved this app from my review below. I only subtracted 1 star at the time I wrote that review, hoping there would be a quick update to fix the hanging menu & freezing app problems and return it to 5 stars! R.I.P. Tayasui Calligraphy app. You were once well loved. Hi, I absolutely love the Calligraphy app! I use it often and just yesterday it started freezing up when I select a new paper. It allows me to get to the menu to select a new paper and it has the black vertical line indicator to show which paper I selected, but when I tap the canvas, the paper selector menu won’t disappear. Same with the upper right menu, it won’t disappear and everything is just frozen. I’ve tried closing the app and opening it again. This does bring up the previous drawing, but when I go to make a new canvas it will not let me get past the paper select menu. I can draw calligraphy with the default paper, but nothing else. I’ve tried restarting my iPad but it also does not resolve the issue. I don’t want to delete the app and reinstall it as I have several projects that I need to go back to and maybe change or add layers to. Is there a limit on how many drawings can be saved? Maybe that needs to be increased? I’m not sure? I’m just crushed that the app isn’t performing well now! But I have faith it can be resolved! 😊 Also, I do have some feature requests for a future update: Ability to import a photo as a layer or background Abilities to select, move, copy & paste letterforms that I’ve created both within the app and other apps without the paper of background (w/ automatic instant alpha) Drop shadows! A variety to choose from would be great! Would be cool to make a brush that can have two or three colors as a gradient that works on the fly as you draw each stroke of the letter form! I’m not sure that’s possible but it would be really cool! Metallic looking inks Ability to apply & change colors & effects after making the drawing or letterforms, i.e. apply gradients, metallics etc to whatever is selected after it has been drawn I am able to copy & paste into other apps but I have to use something like instant alpha to get rid of the paper background. It works pretty good but it’s not perfect! Anyway, keep up the good work... I can’t tell you how much I love your app and it’s my favorite way to do my calligraphy on a tablet! The results are amazing and I get a lot of compliments!

Peacefully amazing!!. this app is now my favorite drawing app. it feels so peaceful when drawing i don’t know how but it does haha. the only thing i would like to see added to this app is the possibility of the duplication of the drawings thank you for this amazing app!!! ✨🥰

Love it!. There was one time the app crashed when I tried to edit the pen settings, but it’s a new app and it only happened once. No big deal. I love everything about this app, and am looking forward to all the magnificent things I’m going to create with it in the future. It’s so versatile!

Extraordinary. Tayasui does it again. So amazingly fluid with lots of variations. The “Texture” setting shows difference in transparency but “texture” is not easily discerned. Unless, the transparency allows the texture underneath to come through? I think this is now my favorite app.

Auto Orientation Issue. I'd love to love this app but it has serious orientation issues, at least on my iPad Pro. It doesn't rotate, saves portrait work as landscape and crashes every now and then.

Best “watercolor” app. Even though it doesn’t describe itself as a watercolor app and is missing features an experienced watercolorist would expect, I found the app extremely intuitive to use and am thrilled at how easy it was to capture that organic feel I crave. The texture is amazing, you can keep coloring over an area to increase the depth, blend modes for layering and shading work as expected, and the color “dries” with a lovely darker edge. Please please make these brushes available in Tayasui Sketches!

Need to be like sketch pro. It’s an amazing calligraphy experience , but it needs some more features like cut and paste and selection and layers

Love this app. I love this app! I wish there was more to do on here because I know. You would have great features.I have found that for some reason my paper turns different colors and I can’t get them back to the original white color I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I wish there was somewhere we could go to find out tips or little things to do. I really like how the pin writes in calligraphy it’s more realistic looking. Anyway keep up the good work and I hope you come out with some update soon because I definitely would Buy an upgrade for this app.

Great app still lacking basic import layer function?. I’ve been waiting and coming back to this app every so often because it’s one of the best caligraphy apps there is but what hurts it is that it still lacks basic import layer functions. Can’t import an alphabet or certificate to practice tracing. It’s mind boggling why. It has a great paper creating feature that is a very powerful that many drawing apps lack. But still missing ability to import. The developer responded to me a couple years ago so i help hope that they’d add the basic feature but the app appears almost abandoned. I hope all is well with the developer I understand sometimes health and life get in the way.

change not always good. Since the last update I have lost the brush with thin start and end, so the lines can’t be subtle any longer. Hope this gets fixed. Like the layers and other improvements.

Great smooth calligraphy brush!. I love the app but I wish I could import photo or bring things from Sketches. The brush feels amazing and natural. We need stamping and rake of brush.

Beautiful and worth the price, but doesn’t save regularly. Really beautiful, totally has the tactile features down that makes this enjoyable - the sound of the pen and eraser, the ‘texture’ of the ink, perfect. Only reason I’m not rating it 5 stars yet is because it loses my work. If I leave the app for a few minutes it restarts when I return, and loses everything I did. A way around this is navigating up to the ‘portfolio’ view every now and then which does seem to trigger a save. Totally worth the current price though. I’ll re-rate after a release fixes this. Cheers

Needs work. Pens tool is nice to use, but other wise it’s a baffling add-on. Why not release it as a pen tool within Sketches instead? As it is it’s way too limiting, I was expecting the same feel as Sketches app, but it’s very clunky. No layers, no two finger undo, doesn’t even seem to be a way to save to camera roll. Really strange for all the hype. Not quite sure who the market is for, as without a clean white background option I can’t see the appeal?

Simple to use. Making the pen tool a small size turns this into a a really cool sketchpad

Fun but has problems. This app should provide a “zen” / relaxing experience. It almost does but for some problems which frustrate: 1. Palm rejection doesn’t work well enough. App constantly switches color when palm is place on the surface of the paper. 2. You can accidentally delete all layers at which pt app gets stuck and needs to be killed. 3. Canvas isn’t big enough / is not infinitely scrolling 4. There’s no lasso tool to move text around

It’s more lovely to work with that you’d expect.. This is awesome. It’s been years that I’m looking for an app that can satisfy the need for simplicity and function at the same time. This one does a perfect job. I’m using it for drawing illustrations for the service I’m offering. Couldn’t be more happy. Simplicity is everything.

Would be even better with import.. Really awesome app for calligraphy! Love the pen angles and how the interface is really clean. One request: can you add a feature to import an image onto a layer? Would love to be able to import practice sheets onto one layer to be able to practice on top of. Thanks in advance!
