Windy.com Comments & Reviews 2026
Best weather app out there. I have been using windy for the past few years and nothing compares. The weather affects my job a lot so I’m always checking the app, it is so incredibly useful to be able to see not only the conditions of the town I’m in but the entire area all at a glance. I find a lot of times that the default apple weather app will show that it’s cloudy all day, but windy days there’s a chance of rain all day and it ends up raining. This app has also completely changed the way I choose where to hike and do road trips. I like to play things by ear based on the weather, so when I want to go for a hike I look at windy to see where the weather is the best and I choose a hike based on that. And when I’m on a road trip I am always looking at the forecast for the following days and I choose which direction to go based on where the weather will be better. Obviously no app can be 100% accurate and I’m not claiming windy is but it helps me make more informed decisions that an app without weather radar can’t provide.
Best map of NYC. We love Windy. It's beautiful and though we din't understand most of what's in it and the interface is non-intuitive, that's fine because it is a really serious map for people who are knowledgeable about weather — which we are not. But, we love having perfectly fresh information and, living in New York City, we are thrilled by one feature of the map which we have not found in google apps or Apple maps or anybody else's maps — the street numbers of the buildings! Saves us from the annoying experience of coming out of the subway only to find we are walking the wrong way down the street. Wonderful!
Premium offer does not work. App is great! I thought I should support the developers because I use it all the time so I opted for the premium version. I would rate it 5 stars but for the problems I had activating the premium features. To activate the premium subscription one needs to login through the Windy app. However, I created my account years ago on the web, and the app did not recognize my login credentials so there was no way to “activate” my premium subscription. I tried numerous times using different paths, changing passwords, etc but could not get it to work. However, the next day I tried again and it was successful. I don’t know what happened, but I am happy with the app.
Storm Recovery. Since the Weather Channel ruined the Storm app, I turned to Windy to get the wind animation and multi-city forecasts that I was accustomed to. Windy provides all that I seek in a weather app, and more. It did take time to find things, and my iPad version still will only show 3 overlay options, but lots of other display choices I do not care about and did not select in the same column of choices. Once I (accidentally) found the meteograms I am fascinated, but wish there was some place to learn what the detailed meaning. I also wish that front symbols would be able to display with temperatures, wind, or rain. I find the thunderstorm info distracting and wish I could turn it off.
Use it all the time for long distance cruise planning as well as for local fishing trips. I have weather XM subscription on my Garmin chart plotter, but it only gets me a wind view out 3 days. Windy gives me an outlook on wind and swell direction as far as a week out. I find this invaluable for our summer cruising in the Bahamas. It allows me to line up wind and waves to best suit my boat and allows me to give my passengers a better ride on passages. Together with Weather XM and internet weather reports, I can minimize bad weather experiences for my guests (and wife) so they will want to come back again and again! I use Windy more than any of the others mentioned because it’s so handy and can be taken easily from boat to boat. Wherever I carry my phone (which is everywhere) I can get wind and sea conditions. If you’re a boater, you will love this app.
Lack of cellular support on Apple Watch. The application itself is great I do use it. I was very glad to see Apple Watch integration. However like many many people I have an Apple Watch with cellular connectivity so I don’t have to be tethered to my iPhone. Unfortunately we’re not tethered to the iPhone and the Apple Watch windy application has major problems. I get error messages like location not enabled, or doesn’t know where I am or worse yet no connectivity. evidently the application on the Apple Watch has no problem as long as you’re connected to the phone. If you rely on your Apple Watch with cellular connectivity to allow you to be away from your phone not going to work. I don’t understand this most applications that I’ve used tend to support both. Why the developers failed to anticipate this Or thought that it wasn’t significant enough to support is beyond me.
New version of windy takes free features away- don’t upgrade!!. Well the long range forecast has been moved to the “premium” platform. At least the various models still remain but I assume they would be next on the chopping block to try and force people to the paid premium version. The long range forecast with the ability to see the different model solutions was the main reason I used the windy app. Now that it is gone, I guess I will just stay on weatherunderground website for my weather data. Weatherunderground is more grounded in reality but it “was” fun to see the extremes from the raw models. You are free to use whatever business model you want. It’s an interesting app but not worth paying for the premium features. Without the long range forecast, it’s no better than the other apps so I uninstalled Windy. Wish you well, hope this works for you.
Most accurate weather app out there!. I’ve been using the Windy app for about 3 years now and no other app pales in comparison. The fact that you actually get access to multiple forecast models including the European model is quite phenomenal as it’s not offered on many (if any) other weather applications. Many of my friends have come to think I’m some sort of weather guru as I’m always warning them when the wind is going to be kicking up. We live in an area with quite a few trees so being a step ahead as well as warning friends and family is always a good thing. Keep up the stellar work!
Miss Dark Sky? Try Windy.. Dark Sky was a marvelously innovative weather app that Apple brought and then turned into the grotesque mashup that is now the Apple weather app. Such a waste. But all is not lost: Windy picks up the torch with a fast, fluid, intuitive user interface that displays a multitude of weather charts at the tap of a finger. Weather radar, satellite, wind direction and velocity, lightning (with sound if you like), waves(!), air quality, and more additional charts than space conveniently allows me to mention. There’s a paid tier that supposedly gives you things like higher radar resolution, but the free version seems to work well for me. On the other hand I might subscribe just so that when Apple comes calling the folks at Windy won’t really need the money.
Commercial Fisherman. Was skeptical at first that this could depict weather changes so precisely, but found that it is mostly correct. I think a lot of it is due to the quirky geography of the mountains and lengthy valleys near the waterways that I commercial fish during the winter months. Windy seems to be very quickly incorporating these local weather phenomena into their depictions, so we’ll see how precise it becomes later on. Just during the past week or so there have been many multiple changes in wind direction and intensity, and Windy has managed to plot all them out very well. A vast improvement over the NOAA text and audio based descriptions that also lack general time periods when the wind is going to switch and intensify. I do not own a large fishing boat that can brute force it’s way through anything over 30 knots, so I have to play by the rules the wind lays out for me. Windy has vastly improved my planning for weather headed my way. Very surprised Windy is as good as others have said it is, and very happy with this free service. It is rapidly gaining popularity among the commercial fleet here in Alaska.
So Close To The Only Weather App You’ll Need. I have used Windy for over a year and value it enough to subscribe to the premium level. It is worth the annual fee and a 5-Star rating except for one single missing feature. The app is very flexible and powerful. With a selections from the menu a user can see anything from from a simple local forecast to see the long term trends in an area. If you are a pilot, surfer, or someone who really wants a deep dive in to important aspects of the weather that is easily available too. Also important - Windy accurately forecasts the weather. It even allows you to chose from several forecasting models should you believe a particular model is more accurate. Yet all of the flexibility provides some frustration, and judging by the forum, many other users. Windy seems to have a single default view that applies to all users. So then each time we open the app we have to remember and find all of the menus selections to display the weather the individual user wants. It takes a minute or two to get this set so no big deal - but then again this is required every time a user opens the app. If Windy allowed a user to set a default view this would solve that issue and then from my perspective, be the only weather app I need.
Wish I had this years ago !. As a working pilot on Kodiak Island Alaska for almost 2 decades and 12,000 hours PIC time Having a weather forecast that could be trusted or even shown in semi-real time would have made a big impact on one of the most dangerous vocations there was. Most of my peers laughed at forecasts due to the lack of accuracy. Instead they relied on what the weather was at a given moment, for flight planning, not what it would be in an hour or two. Pilots & passengers both are made safer by this app that both can interpret, and formulate risk based predictable data that’s reliable, over and over again. That coupled with GPS Navigation has made the industry much safer today. It impacts much more than “Am I going to need a raincoat “? Yes you can argue, that it does save lives, both in the Aviation and Maritime community. Thanks Windy
Simply amazing!. Edit: This is actually a five star app, I rated at 4 stars because I never give 5 or 1 star reviews. The reason being that I myself throw out 1 and 5 star reviews in attempt to find an honest opinion. Hopefully I expressed my gratitude toward all the hard workers and long nights they’ve had in making this the best weather app out there. Thank you Windy! It’s like how the web should be, a free exchange of information. I love the detailed information and free layers. Need more information? This app has it. I’ve been using it for years and it is the best! Thank you for everyone involved in making this a free and powerful weather app! Edit 2: its probably closer to a decade I’ve been using your app and im not ashamed to say that :p
Great app for all weather lovers!!!. This is one of my favorite free weather apps. It’s not just winds, which as a weather lover and sailor is wonderful, it has an awesome radar system. Shows lightning strikes that light up, wind and gusts, cloud cover, and a great real-time/future option for wind, jet streams, and tropical storms! So many options that took me a while to realize it had. Like GFS and Euro models for future weather and hurricanes. Honestly my number one go to for storm watching and 99% of all my weather information needs. Have turned probably hundreds of people like me on to this app! Keep it going because ya’ll are doing everything right!!!!
‘Feels Like’ still needed. Windy is a fabulous app. A few years ago, its developers surprised the world with a website of animated maps showing wind flow in a manner anyone could intuitively understand—and appreciate as beautiful art! Today, the app provides layers and layers of weather and related information, both current and forecast for days into the future. But it still lacks a Feels-Like layer. Most people want to know two things: Will I get wet if I go outside? And will I be hot or cold? Temperature and precipitation are the go-tos. And for the past 20 years, computers have enabled meteorologists and weather apps to compute and display Wind Chill in the winter and Heat Index in the summer. Once Windy adds Feels Like, the app will be complete.
Disappointed after buying Premium annual subscription. I’ve been using the Windy app (free version) for a while now and have been happy with it overall. I particularly like the lack of ads and the rich set of map overlays. Today, I decided to buy the Premium upgrade for two reasons. First, I’m willing to provide financial support for an app that I use regularly and it seems like a completely reasonable price for the value I get. Second, however, I was swayed by the mention of integrated Tide information within the app. That would be a nice additional feature since I use the app mainly for boating. Unfortunately, it seems very misleading to highlight this feature. There is no robust tide information available but just a very basic chart that shows the tide going up and down without any readings or magnitude. Sort of useless and disappointing.
Update ruined app. The new update has destroyed the user experience on the app. The UI changing has made it much more challenging and frustrating to use, to the point where I am going to have to delete the app. It’s just unusable for me, they fixed a UI that was PERFECT. One of the best things about the app was how simple it was. Now it’s clunky, complex, and just annoying to use. Windy provided me with much useful data but it’s nothing I can’t find through other resources which I’m afraid I will have to do now. I do hope the makers of this app correct the decision to change the UI and revert it back to the original. It’s very unfortunate that I have to stop using this app, because I really enjoyed it and it really helped me out. But it’s not worth it when they took away part of what made it enjoyable and usable. I hope the makers see this, please correct this update, you’re going to lose lots of users because of the new UI.
The best!. I’m a Captain for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and have to stay focused on the weather. Windy gives me the best of the best forecasts, both local where the ship is, and equally important is what’s the prediction for days to come are. By using Windy actively, I am able to plan the cruise, inform the guests so they can plan the port days with excursions and daily activity so they get the most out of the vacation and cruise. Even when I am on vacation, both home in Norway or at my condo in Florida, I use Windy to plan my own days, wether it is planing for a round of golf, a day at the beach or any other outdoor activity. Windy has so many options and I love the Pro version which gives me everything from 10 days forecast all over the world, a hurricane update or the local forecast including local rain showers the next hour.
Metars and Models and Satellites oh my!. I’ve been a severe weather enthusiast for years I also have a very busy, not-weather related profession so I always seem to spend the first week before tornado reason trying to relocate all of the meteorological data online. No more! With Windy I can old-school my forecasts based on surface data, or I can flip through model data. The settings and visual layering are incredible! Thanks to the developers for an amazing, thoughtful app! I’m just kicking myself that I’m only now finding this. If you are looking for a standard, user-friendly “here’s your local forecast”, kind of app, this app is probably not your best bet. If you are a chaser, spotter, forecaster, weather enthusiast or anyone working in the marine world, this app is the best I’ve come across!
Comprehensive. This weather app is by far the most creative and comprehensive view of weather I’ve ever seen. As an outdoor person and one who gets out on the waters in our boat, the info can be tailored to cover just about any circumstance: example, wind speed and direction relative to Lows and Highs, relationship of wave actions to swells, and active tide/current data. There just is no other app that I know of that is so comprehensive, and I have yet to utilize all the features, like cloud formations at different altitudes. Keep up the good work! So many great apps “get better” and lose their utility...please,please, maintain your integrity!
Pretty great as far as weather apps go.. Very user-friendly for being as in depth as it is, and that makes it a both a joy and a useful teaching tool. But I want more. I’d really like this to take the place of all, or at least most, of the web sites I use. I’ll list 3 things specifically: 1. Access to more computer models. Instead of just the deterministic GFS and ECMWF, add the 30 and 50 ensembles, respectively, or at least a blend. The Canadian model and its ensembles. The HRRR. The UKMET. Any of the big boys that I haven’t listed here. Also some CAM’s for short term. And being able to plot the data in charts and meteograms instead of just maps. 2. Forecasts, short-term and long-term, for the oscillations that drive the earth’s weather, i.e. the Madden-Julian and ENSO. 3. Archived history of weather maps and surface observations at airport, marine, mesonet and personal weather stations. I understand these are big asks—and not likely to be of much use to most people—but as a 2nd, elite subscription tier for 9.99 a month, I’d buy in.
Great overall. This app is truly great overall, offers many options, and is colorful to boot. The live lightning strikes are amazing! You do need to figure out how to see what you want (eg, snowfall expected in the coming 48 hours). Although what were various free features before are now available at a cost, I understand this; it’s a business model. I do wish there was a longer (and free) view of previous and future radar, and I wish the clever programmers who made this app can transform the flat map into the realistic sphere that the earth is (so not all storms in the northern hemisphere look like they are massive enough to devour the entire entire planet). I haven’t seen anyone accomplish it yet!
Windy is essential. I got windy 5 years ago now and have never take my boat to the ocean without checking out the app prior to departure since. The best part of windy for me living on the California coast is being able to find pockets of wind free water. The directional arowws will show where and when you can find little pockets of windless or less windy waters. Finally, l love the accuracy of the app in my five years with windy I’ve only seen one day be far off of what was forecasted, I attribute the miss of that day due to major forest fires in our area. In conclusion if you fish or boat in general Windy is your most essential app to keep you your friends and Family safe
A little complex but very good.... Not very intuitive to learn and somewhat complicated to configure for the information you want, but quite powerful and useful with an attractive design. This App has the potential to be best of the best. Keep up the good work. (Retired 22 year data systems engineer). 14 September 24: Newer versions have become more intuitive (or maybe I’ve just become more used to the interface) and more useful features have been added so I would now say that in the world of weather apps, that it is truly the “Best of the Best”… thanks for the great work.
The best weather app out there. I was a huge fan of Storm from WeatherUnderground and hadn't checked out the other options recently, but when The Weather Channel killed Storm and replaced it with a mediocre weather channel version I had a look at the other options and was very happy to find Windy. It's so much much better than the others, let me count (a few of) the ways: You can pick your forecast model! And then compare the different models to see where they differ! That to me is a game changer. The timeline along the bottom is so great to see how pressure and fronts will move - I feel like I've learned a lot just by using the app. The many layer options are great - set it for what you want to see and don't be distracted by what you don't. And of course the wind animation options make for a visually appealing interface. Seeing how the different altitude winds are moving and changing is so useful and interesting. I'd gladly pay money for this app, there are just so many great things to say about it. And if all you want is a sun, a cloud, or an umbrella for where you live that's there for you too. I was bummed when Storm was killed off but am so happy to have found this great app.
Update is a downgrade. I’ve been using Windy for a number of years and have found it quite useful so vey often. The latest “improvements” to the app are just awful. When an app that’s been around for so long, and the UI is good, a major change to the interface means it’s like getting a different app and starting over. Over the weekend I used windy on my iPhone for a trip over to Catalina Island off SoCal. Very accurate and useful. The forecasts were very good and useful. Two days later, I’m home and open Windy on my iPad Pro to plan my next sail. I am fumbling around trying to find the information which was so useful in the past. Gone is the menu at the bottom of the screen, when tapped, the wind arrows at the location chosen location which gave a quick and easy display of the forecast over time by sliding the date/time cursor at the bottom. Now, the time for the forecast is at the bottom of the scree but the predicted wind speed and direction as at the top of the screen. So it’s a constant up down up down up down scan to get the forecasted wind and time. Without the wind arrows for a quick display of the forecast, Windy has become much more cumbersome to use. I’ve been through the menu multiple times but cannot find a setting for the wind arrows on the selected forecast location. So VERY frustrating of an update.
Privacy violations run rampant in weather apps. Yet another Weather app that claims it Has to have my location. I simply want to designate a city and have it give me the weather for that city. I don’t want the weather at my location! I know the weather at my location. I have eyes. I want the weather at other places where I have interests, like property and loved ones. You don’t need to know where I am to tell me the weather in my city. This is purely an insidious ploy to sell my personal information. Update: Received a developer response, with the standard statement: ‘ we are sorry you feel this way…’ I have been unsuccessful, thus far, getting an email through to the email address given in the developer response. So, if you are reading this, please read my initial review, which is very much explanatory of my issues with your app. This has nothing to do with feelings. You should read the review before you send an email asking me to change it. Fix your app, and I will buy it. When you develop an app, THINK FIRST!!! You should especially think about privacy.
Absolutely Stellar Weather App!. Windy has become the best weather app in my arsenal, hands down. It offers access to tons of different weather models and a plethora of helpful layers that provide incredibly detailed and accurate information. The interface is intuitive, making it easy to navigate through all the features. I use Windy extensively for work and FPV drone flying, and it has never let me down. The real-time updates and precision are unparalleled. If you’re looking for a comprehensive weather app that goes above and beyond, Windy is the one to get. Highly recommended!
BEST EVER!!!. I’ll update this later in more detail... but your app is the BEST... I SERIOUSLY MEAN BEST... of every other weather app I’ve ever known and downloaded in the last 7 years! Everything from data sources, detailed info, everything for a weather nerd as myself... almost could be a meteorologist lol! I’m a geologist so love everything related to Earth’s science... I’ll post an update later... but need to say THANK YOU for the best app EVER! 😃 Thank everybody that aided in developing your app Once I’ve available funds... I seriously wish to contribute as much as possible to the developers! FYI... this is the first review I’ve EVER submitted for an app... so everyone should now understand my love of this app!
Weather for everyone!. FINALLY! - A weather app for adults. This app is amazingly sophisticated and deep with information enough to satisfy the most dedicated weather geek, yet simple enough so that you can see all the details of a 10 day forecast in one chart. The animated wind and storm overlays are absolutely the best I’ve seen in any weather app. The only thing lacking is a detailed video analysis of the weather situation for a particular area, but these are fraught with ads in other weather apps, and with a little education and the information provided by this app you could nearly compose your own video.
My favorite app. This app is the most complete I've found and tells you day you can also see the days of a lot of rain. And I can say I've never removed it from my phone because I've had it since the hurricane irma and right now there's a hurricane coming to Mexico but it doesn't offer aAnd I can say I've never removed it from my phone because I've had it since the hurricane irma and right now there's a hurricane coming to Mexico but it doesn't offer any danger. Unload it. You will not regret putting play and you will see the days as you walk and you see the day the hurricane arrives at us. Thanks to us.
So bad it can actually be harmful. Just sat through YET ANOTHER severe weather event the windy app gave no heads up about. Major thunderstorm, torrential downpour, regional flood advisories and what heads up did windy give? Nada! In fact it predicted no precipitation, no thunder storm and showed partly sunny as it’s weather forecast. DO. NOT. USE. This app could get someone killed. Fortunately I have other apps such as Weather Channel which did alert about this and was accurate. And this is far from the first time this app has failed to indicate bad weather, it’s “accuracy” is so bad that I can’t consider this app anything more than a toy, something from a Cracker Jack box. Use at your peril Update per developer response: making excuses about the different models being at fault is sickening and outright reckless. This is a clear case of “Garbage in Garbage Out” the Devs knowingly supply garbage data and happily let their users suffer the consequences — hopefully after paying for “premium” of course. The Dev response should alarm anyone as it only confirms my review and statement that this app is dangerous and should not be used. I’ll be following up with Apple Store Support since I don’t think an app with such potential for real life harm should be allowed on the store
Excellent app, unstable at the moment. I am a sailor, forest fire warden, pilot, an outdoor enthusiast who has been a paid subscriber for many years, and have always used Windy to get a good overview of the long-range models. It is the best general presentation of forecast models available. I used Windy on both an iPhone and iPad Pro with equal success. However, in the last few weeks it has become very unstable and crashes soon after initiating. I have followed all the developer’s recommendations for correcting the installation on the user’s end but to no avail. I suspect there still is some condition that they haven’t resolved and I hope they can figure it out. Good luck!
Great app for the Angler!. There is quite a few things for Anglers to consider when planning even a day trip out on the water. Safety is the #1 consideration. Many people have been caught out on the water when high winds suddenly kicked up. This makes getting back to a safe harbor problematic. Down here in Baja Mexico, I use the WINDY APP as my first tool when deciding to put my boat out on the water! I have found WINDY to be a reliable tool to use on a regular basis. Be safe out there, and remember, “It is better to be on land and wishing you were out on the water, than to be out on the water and wishing you were on land!”
Great app for truck drivers. As a truck driver in the southwest, this app is amazing because I can monitor wind speeds and weather to make my job a little bit safer since it’s always windy here. we actually use it in our dispatch office as well. I started out with the free version, but I liked it so much I opted to get the premium subscription. I’d say Radar Omega is a little better if you’d like to track just thunderstorms and tornadoes, but this app is especially great for tracking windspeeds, but also does a good job on other severe weather. With the premium version you have access to all kinds of different layers between wind, rain, snow, ozone, temperatures, drought maps, all kinds of stuff. 50+ different ones actually. i’d recommend it and I’d say it’s probably the best “all around” weather app that I’ve come across so far.
It’s your right to not like changes. I love the statement that tho company used in a expansion of why the changes…it’s their right to the changes and if we don’t like it that’s our right to disagree. I have used this app over the last few years and it has helped with many forecasts of upcoming issues. Since the company has used the right to change things, it is as useless as some of the other weather apps on the market. But like all people now looking for an edge of making more money change is happening. The app did have some of the best features on the market. I do thank the developers for the time the allowed us poor folks the use of the product.
Great on iPhone 8, issues dragging the map on the 11. I loved this app so much! Having lived in 2 locations that are frequented by hurricanes, Florida & Coastal North Carolina, this app is a MUST during hurricane season. I used it all the time on my iPhone 8 with no issues. But I just got the iPhone 11, and noticed one issue I never had on the iPhone 8. And seeing no other reviews describing this same issue (the iPhone 11 has only been out now for 4 days), I felt I should report it just in case others have the same issue, and so maybe a fix can occur. I have tried restarting my phone and reinstalling the app, but problem persists. The issue happens when you try to drag the map to look at other locations. Instead of the animated map moving to reveal more of the map, it zooms in. Making it impossible to look at other locations, other than the default location. I was able to move it only a little but it was a battle getting it to respond at al and would still only do that while simultaneously zooming in. If I am doing something wrong, please let me know! But I still say it’s been the best visual weather app out there! And I hope this problem goes away soon! I will change my rating to 5 stars if I can get it to work again.
Very difficult to use. Every time I try to ise this app I end up with a headache. Everyone raves that it has the most accurate surf report and it does. However, there is no option to make the font larger and I cannot see any of the info just the arrows. Second, it takes forever to find the place to see the surf conditions. There is a pin on the right, but when you tap it it tell you to go to the main, yet there is nowhere labelled main menu. I have never in my life experienced a more user un-friendly app. I have tried so many times because I really want the information. How can an app be rated so highly that is so difficult to use? I suppose its because if its accuracy. Please please please make changes to make it easier to use and also give an option to increase the font size. I suppose once app designers reach 50 they will begin to understand the importance of this.
Best weather app ever. Honestly I never review apps, because at best most are simply acceptable for their designed purpose. This app, however, is worth mentioning, in that it is easily the most comprehensive (not to mention accurate) weather resource you can put on your phone, with a super intuitive interface, and greater functionality in the free version than you can get in all other paid weather apps I’m aware of. Furthermore, and almost most importantly to me, this app is basically ad-free, and doesn’t bloat up your phone with unnecessary and invasive adware the way most others do. Simply put, this app is exceptional, fantastic on all levels, and something that I will eventually pay for simply to support. Kudos and thanks to Ivo & the team for making this app a reality. Weather geeks (professional or otherwise,) do yourself a favor and download this one. It’s really a beautiful thing.
Well done. I’ve been looking for a long time for an app with this much functionality, as well-designed, and with as active community engagement. And, at the moment, it’s free, and with no ads. If you find it as useful as I do, however, the subscription is very reasonable compared to the couple of other “professional” services I have seen. I happily signed up. These people are obviously focused on providing the best and most usable data and visualization possible. I’ve seen too many really good starts go down the drain when someone corporate comes along with better ideas for monetization that ends up killing the thing (I’m looking at you, Storm). I tip my hat to the Windy team.
The perfect weather app—almost. I started using Windy about five years ago primarily for boating on the inland passage in the Pacific Northwest. It was a great adjunct to other resources and it quickly became my go to weather app. I have enjoyed watching it improve over the past five years. The capabilities are almost endless. I have not even scratched the surface of many of the features and layers. The only negative is the last upgrade is unstable and will frequently crash for no apparent reason. The people at Wendy seem proactive and are interested in keeping things in good working order so I hope this will resolve soon.
Windy Weather. I have found Windy to be one of the best weather apps available. I particularly like the ability to view four different weather models, and to look forward several days with the predictions. A few suggestions: It would be nice if you could see both the selected menu item AND the particular legend. Currently, after you select a specific item, I.e. rain accumulation, you have to X out of the menu before the ledge down come up at the bottom. It would be nice if you could see both at the same time and just circulate between menu items. The font is pretty small at the bottom...great data, but have a look at the formatting....in some cases things are impossible to read since they are overlapping, such as cloud altitudes. Rain vs. Snow accumulation.......it’s confusing. Looks to be the same physical accumulation data, but we know inches of snow isn’t inches of water.... Would be nice to be able to zoom the map like all other apps........instead of just having several different fixed scales. This is a wonderful app, and I encourage you to keep making it better. Thanks.
Click click click click click click. This may not be a deal breaker for some, however, one of Windy’s featured map overlays is Weather Radar, it is cool over lay for severe weather. The overlays shows rain intensity, lightning, and even makes sounds when lightning strikes. The overlay has one major major oversight by Windy, there is no way to disable or turn off the lightning strike clicking. This clicking WILL drive you nuts, windys silly community voting approach for features only after you sign up is quite a stupid model. I love the app, hate the clicking and the oversight from their devs to turn it off and the stupid community voting approach, thus three stars. Most likely will delete it after I find a comparable app.
Access to the models professionals use. Also Can compare them, and probably learn a lot more too if you have less formal meteorological training. Having more access to well formatted data instead of it being fed to you and summarized as in other apps is important especially to those who depend heavily on weather such as myself occasionally working in the marine industry on Great Lakes and outdoor activities or professions. It’s important to understand that models do not always get it perfect so being able to compare them for discrepancy and integrate into your own local knowledge is crucial on the water or anywhere really when serious mission critical planning or at least some decent foresight is required. This app allows you to do that. I’d say this app is the main thing to have and then some shortcuts for a few NOAA pages allowing you to get some of the same information in a low bandwidth format when service is poor … other than Sirius nav weather on an MFD for when there is zero cell coverage… this is what you need to be as confident as anyone can be about completing dangerous marine work on a Great Lake like superior.
My lifeline to weather. We live aboard our boat full time. In Continental US waters, there are lots of weather apps as well as local forecasts to keep one safe on the water. Outside the US, radar and forecasting gets a lot harder. Windy has been the sole app that gives us our local radar and forecast as well as all the regular features used for sailing. With the addition of more hurricane features, it has become indispensable to assist with keeping us informed and safe. That’s a lot for an app. My only beef is that when you open the app, it always has the New Hurricane Tracker page that you must X out of to close. Can we not leave that there? When I’m constantly opening the app, it got old real fast. Otherwise, I truly appreciate the local weather in remote areas as well as all of the regular features. Thank you so very much!
Hands Down The Best Weather App. I have tried just about every weather app there is. But now I have found a keeper. Most of the others are either to hard to navigate, too cluttered and way too many adds. This one is so well laid out. It is easy to navigate and has everything you want in a weather app. It has satellite, radar, wind , cloud cover , thunderstorms and even snow accumulations for the winter months. You name it is there. I am using the free version and you are not bombarded with adds or them asking you too upgrade. Give this app a try and you will be glad you did
Windy is Great Except for Its Location Service. I love Windy! I use it on long distance offshore singlehanded sailing passages. I use it out at sea in conjunction with StarLink and it is an amazing tool. Except for it’s inability to keep track of my actual location. I’ve spoke with the team and unfortunately have not been able to make any headway but I am hopeful they will address this issue soon as it is critical to the offshore sailor and other adventurers in remote locations using StarLink or other satellite communications platforms. With this issue resolved Windy will most certainly become the weather modeling and routing tool of choice for most if not all remote adventurers.
Sometimes I’m lucky. I have a nice RV with a large deck on a lake. What’s on the deck, plants and some furniture, can take serious damage from wind and rain that blows sideways. Knowing how much wind and wind direction is critical for my potted plants, which can happily fly off the tables if it gets too windy. Windy keeps me informed of wind and wind gusting with direction as well as how much rain is expected. The maps showing wind direction is very cool but I love watching the storms on radar. I can replay the last hour or more of the radar and can see if the storm is hitting or missing. I set out to find a better weather app, and this is it. Lucky again!
The best, but incorporate meteoblue maps?. As a developer myself, I really appreciate the quality of work going into an app like this. The fact that you have 5 comparable forecast models that can also be compared with ground station data really sets this apart. It’s hard to ask for more. That being said… I want more!!! Could you please incorporate meteoblue maps, at least for temperature and wind? It’s misleading when I select meteoblue as the forecast model but the map continues to display the previous “map supported” global model (ECMWF GFS or ICON). If meteoblue only supports some data, I’d prefer a warning message saying “we can’t show this because it doesn’t exist”, rather than the current behavior of showing me something that does exist but isn’t what I asked for. Additionally, selecting NAM 5km from the same menu seems to prematurely “snap back” to ECMWF. I dislike, but still prefer, the tendency of NAM 5km to only switch to ECMWF when the modeled region goes *completely* out of view (which is my experience when selecting NAM from the side-bar, rather than within the forecast menu). I’d like no switching at all, but it’s not a big inconvenience. Thanks, and keep up the great work!
Ruined by the latest update!. I’ve used Windy for years (as a paid premium user) for planning sailing passages. After the most recent update, it’s a nightmare to use. To compare wind forecasts from multiple models, now I have to pan around the map, then, within six seconds, click “show forecast “, then switch to display wind at the bottom of the screen (it doesn’t remember this choice from one interaction to the next). Then pan around to see another location. In the previous version, I could simply tap any location on the map, use the drop-down arrow to select wind display. Done. Then tap anyplace on the map, to view another location, and again etc to view wind “evolution” along a sailing path. Used to love Windy. Hate the new interface, so now I’m desperately looking for a replacement.

The best weather app for forecasts.. The radar modelling and ability to get detailed forecasts is fantastic. You can select where you are or where you want weather forecasts from on the map and adjust for altitude which makes it great for being in the mountains. A must for anyone heading out into the outdoors
A Pilots friend.. I’m learning how to fly a helicopter out of Moorabbin Airport, have clocked up 28 Hours so far. I use Windy in order to work out which is the best day to fly. I find windy to be extremely accurate with Knots, wind speed and direction. Is also extremely accurate for Port Phillip Bay. Highly recommend this app, honestly I wouldn’t trust anything else. Windy. This is the best weather app. We recommend it to all our customers in a tourism destination for boating, fishing, snorkeling etc. If you added live footage, it would be even more awesome! People aren’t aware of all the features that include swell, rain, cloud cover etc, but when we tell them they love it even more. It is THE BEST.
Wild Windy. Groundbreaking modelling. Accuracy is next level. Aesthetically pleasing to the neurones. Set a benchmark with forecasting that none of the surf forecasting providers have been able to keep up with. Different stratosphere. Always proof read my surf predictions with the graphics on windy before planning a day on the ocean. Blessings
Consult Windy every day. I now have Windy Premium and consult the weather map every day. I find the forecasts 2 days out are very accurate, but the accuracy lessens a bit the further out you go of course. I use Windy for my job to predict weather conditions up to a week out. I am the Harbour Master at Gippsland Ports in Victoria Australia. I mainly use the ECMWF model.
A must for fishing around Tasmania. Let the wind take you to the best parts of this island. Don’t go into the wind Fish in the blue white zones ,be it coastal or central plateau Great app Good fishing and camping Have just been around the western 1/2 of Australia and took my 4.49 Tiny so used Windy app heaps over the last 3 months and 20 ks of travel It is more than just a boating app Karl and LeeAnne
The best weather information.. I have been using windy for over two years now and have found it to be 100% correct. I get warnings of heavy rain down to the minute. It truly is incredible. I highly recommend using this app as it has never failed me.
Was great but 10 day forecast & 1hr detail now removed from free version!. This was my favourite weather app with 5 forecast models (& ability to compare these) in a clear graphical display. I would normally give 5 stars but in the latest version they have removed the 10 day forecast from the free version, requiring a subscription to view the data. Not happy! UPDATE: disappointing you can’t offer a cheaper/shorter “trial” subscription for a month, still lamenting your reduction of functionality to Crippleware, I relaunch this app now & then and am reminded why I’m using other apps that don’t want money forever. Goodbye.
Multi model. It’s great to be able to switch between models. Meteorology is a blend of science and witchcraft and it’s nice to look at the forecasts and then discuss the reality over a beer or 5. I train people for sea survival. The ability to understand the implications and uncertainties of a developing low pressure system can save lives.
Gotta have it now I’ve got it!. I didn’t think a weather app would be so useful, but living in Rural NSW and enduring the non-summer of ‘19-‘20 with bushfires, smoke, hail and everything but the biblical plague of locusts, the Windy app enabled me to track the specific weather conditions pertaining to each threat as they developed. I can honestly say it was literally a life saver for me. Planning a bushfire contingency plan and then being able to execute it as the conditions developed kept both property and people safe. Can’t do without it now!
Terrific. An excellent app, replaces another weather app which was good until their updates got rid of the wind map. This app is terrific and I recommend it above all others. Well done! App appears to have failed I am just getting a white screen Help! Updated iPad system app now works great Well done Windy
Why Windy works for us. Our first task each morning is to check the wind forecast. It’s the alternative to a diary when a boat is your home. We love Windy. Along with the important extended wind forecasts we depend on, we can also enjoy the other features that are unique to Windy. It’s easy to check what’s happening interstate so you can be envious or relieved. The display is beautiful and enjoyable to interact with. The longer forecasts may of course change but it’s enjoyable to at least anticipate options. The multi dimensional indicators using colour, movement and the numerical pointer make for a lively interface. Thanks Windy. Life aboard has been a little brighter since we found you. From Russell and Katrina
Excellent tool for aviation. Windy is an outstanding resource for pilots in general aviation. It greatly improves situational awareness, because it is so much more detailed and so much more visually accessible than standard meteorological prediction products. The number of prediction layers is staggering - if you want to know about clouds, you can ask about low clouds, cloud base, cloud layers, cloud ceiling, overall cloud cover, freezing level, thunderstorm potential, etc etc. You can interrogate the atmosphere at any height using a slider, and look at temperature, wind speed and direction, etc etc. For student pilots and newly qualified pilots, Windy is very useful for learning more about practical aviation meteorology and for helping pilots to stay out of trouble. The 10-day forecasts and the 1-hour forecasts available in the pro version are extremely useful for forward planning.
A solid performer, I’ve come to rely on upon.. Day to day it’s a sweet little weather modeler, it accurately nails the weather even better than granny’s elbow. However, it turns into Captain Fantastic when it comes to looking forward. Better still it is constantly all over any changes, which was particularly useful in last year’s cyclone/hurricane/roughers. The days of wearing sunscreen and a hat when the weather bureau predicts rain are over. It is brilliant! So lose the ulcers and get Windy, you’ll be outside quicker than you know it.
Unintuitive app. I have a subscription and find the website fantastic. The app however is FULL of hidden data that should be much easier to find than it is. Have the app on both iPhone and iPad Pro and am constantly needing to check my notes to find the models comparisons for instance. Having a dropdown menu on the right hand side of the screen is confusing as it is not the accepted way of presenting menu choices. It messes with one’s longterm memory. The list goes on, needless to say I hardly use the app and rely on my PC for the otherwise in-depth information…
The best I’ve ever used. And I’m not embellishing!. As an Event Planner and Manager I have always needed real time monitoring of the weather. Tried several platforms and apps over the years until I saw someone post a screenshot of Windy. I was intrigued to say the least, creating an account and subscribed to Pro a month later. It is my Go To for anything and everything that can potentially ruin a wedding or special outdoor event. I really do have that much confidence of it’s forecasting to settle the nerves of even the biggest bride zilla… I think it would be difficult to create a weather app so comprehensive that could compete with Windy as Forecasted. Great Pricing. Highly recommended.
**⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Weather App I’ve Ever Used!**. I’ve tried countless weather apps, but this one stands out as the most accurate, user-friendly, and feature-packed option available. Here’s why I love it: ✅ **Hyper-Local & Accurate Forecasts** – The predictions are spot-on, down to my exact neighborhood. Rain alerts? Always timely. Temperature updates? Consistently reliable. ✅ **Beautiful & Intuitive Design** – The interface is clean, modern, and easy to navigate. I love the interactive radar maps and customizable widgets. ✅ **Real-Time Alerts** – Severe weather warnings (storms, hurricanes, etc.) come through instantly, which has been a lifesaver more than once. ✅ **Detailed Hourly & 10-Day Forecasts** – Perfect for planning trips, outdoor events, or just my daily commute. ✅ **No Unnecessary Ads or Bloat** – Unlike other apps, this one doesn’t bombard me with ads or useless features. It’s fast and efficient. Whether you’re a weather enthusiast or just need reliable daily forecasts, this app is a must-have. **10/10 – Highly recommend!** 🌦️📱
Windy for boating. Love this app, and have used Windy for many years. It is pretty accurate, and with the subscription I use it to gauge wind up to a couple of weeks away. Like most weather forecasts it is best for up to a few days forecast , but is not far off the longer range as well. The layouts are awesome too.
By far the best weather forecast app. Most accurate forecast, most comprehensive maps and visualisations, best radar maps and what an upgrade with the prediction of rain maps over the next hour (we now know whether we should remove the clothes from the drying line!). Congrats to the dev team! Can I suggest an alert feature that tells you if rain is coming in the next eg 30’?
My go to weather app. Working aquaculture industries for the last 10 years and also run a concrete business, I use this app on a daily basis and the upgrades are well worth the money top notch weather app as you can also compare between weather stations between you. I can’t talk this app up enough I recommend it to everyone, pairing this with your government bureau of meteorology website you can’t go wrong
Top app of all times. This is getting better and better. I did ask if local weather warnings (for Australia) can be added, but I realise it would be monumental task getting every weather service in the world provide same level of detail. Apart from that, by far, this is one of the all time top apps ever created. The magnitude (global), the detail, the reliability exceeds every expectation. Thank you.
Brilliant App. I first heard about Windy from someone who suggested using it with fire alerts to track where the wind would blow bushfires through the days ahead. If they will be blown towards my house I take my dog out with me for the day. For a while this was all I used it for - and thought it particularly well designed and easy to use. I told friends about it. Some of them got back to me and mentioned other features they found. One friend gets concerned about thunderstorms and finds the weather radar option reassuring as it shows that a “very close” lightening strike was actually more than 5 km away. 😊 I have the active fires option switched on and can see which countries have adequate bush fire resources - and which, just over a border, do not. Also when Ukraine and Gaza have fires caused by bombing (corresponds to news reports). There is a richness of features, details very well presented, easy to use - I am happy to rate Windy 10 out of 10.
Inceridible. What a project. Executed so well and super simple to understand. We made a sail plan based on windy forecast from Australia to New Caledonia. Keep the good work guy. Just reading my last review close when you guys started and honestly I don’t know how you do it. I am travelling a lot in very remote areas in Indonesia and especially the last month you guys have been spot on. Both winds and swells very accurate. Great stuff team
The best weather app ever, I subscribe and the information on every level is amazing!. The detail is brilliant in all aspects of satellite images this app has it all!! If ever a weather app needs to be on the phone or pad it is this one, the information and details are the best on the market and it just seems to get better!!
Go to weather app. I use windy mainly for paragliding and light aircraft use to check wind and other necessary flight metrics and I have found it to be the most realisable and accurate resource that is widely available. The features available to the standard user are of great quality and don’t restrict much information at all. While I’m sure the premium version unlocks many useful features, I have been quite content with the standard version for years.
Great app but one more little fix please. Your latest update with the menu icon moved in easy reach of my thumb. But the menu close button is still out of reach at the top of the screen. Maybe swipe to close would work. Otherwise this is the best. I use it with my flying app. Top stuff.
Best Weather App Ever Invented. Too many good things to say about this app. I don’t have the space or the time to list them. So detailed, so accurate. If you need to know what is happening weather wise wherever you are currently or are planning to go this is the app to get!
ONLY APP THAT OFFERS MANY FILTERS & OVERLAYS. This app is purely amazing and I love it and it’s the only one that I use now for checking the radar and everything else I need to check because I can check it all for free as well. Thanks to you guys. I really appreciate it. This app is absolutely awesome and I hope it never changes and it stays and continues to be free to use so many filters and overlays.. it’s the first app I’ve ever found to provide such an immense amount of information freely available and I appreciate that you guys offer it freely available for us to use. awesome developers.!!
Review. I use a lot of different weather apps, mainly as personal interest. This app would be one of the best apps in many ways. Great for CAPE; great to determine when cumulus clouds reach the freezing zone; identifying thunderstorms; using different weather models; identifying microbursts; locating the jet streams. Keep up the great work.
Creepyolmen. Yet again another obvious blo and windy weather go app. I find Older men really find this app useful, it’s hard to get a weather app that makes an effort for the older Generation. Also saves their wives the hassell of having to put in little bits of useless information that don’t satisfy app the effort of the search of a strong hard long gush has long gone. I believe this app suit everyone concerned. I bet the Windy is going to cash in as none of the weather app really care to make the effort. Men must feel powerful to source such a map even if the premium fearures completely freeze without payment. No delusion there. They don’t make Windy maps for love. only payment. The wife is relieved .
Reliable & accurate for helicopter operations. As a helicopter pilot operating in remote areas of northern Australia, as well as spraying pasture in Canada, I could always rely on windy to be very precise with the forecasts. In the Northern Territory of Australia I used to watch the storms build up on windy & then go pick up the remote crews working in the bush, never got caught out. Once in Alberta Canada I waited for 2 days for the wind to drop enough so I could spray herbicide on a pasture without drifting into the neighbours paddock. On day 3 windy forecast the wind to drop at 2pm. Sure enough, 2 pm the wind dropped & we got the job done. Unbelievable accuracy.
Used to be better. This app used to be better, now it goes to black and white as well as having the watermarks on it. At least you could still see it in colour before, now they are trying to force people onto the premium subscription. Not an improvement at all, makes it less user friendly unless you give them money.
The go-to weather app. The first place I go when assessing weather conditions- long term, wide area or very specific. I mostly use Windy for wind conditions for paragliding, but it's valuable for all manner of activities and weather. It's the most trustworthy of all the models I've tried, but like all of them, you need to how to interpret the data for specific locations and conditions.
I was never a weather nerd... until now.. Absolutely terrific, I was never interested in knowing much more about the weather besides if I should wear sleeves or not. However since finding this app I have become fascinated by it, i’ve spent hours comparing pressure zones, deciphering airgrams and learning about snow densities. Thanks for uncovering a interest I never realised I had! A excellent way to learn. Perhaps the educational market could be an approach. thanks!
Great but disappointed in Premium. As a free tool, Windy is fantastic. Because I use it most days, I upgraded to Premium. Although you get better hourly resolution on the forecasts, the satellite resolution is still not anywhere near as detailed as some other paid platforms. Also, it’d be nice to be able to overlay kmls, GPX tracks etc on the iOS apps - this is currently only available on non mobile devices. Otherwise, hands down the best free weather tool out there.
Winning with Windy. I’m a farmer and ag-drone operator, this app allows me to keep an eye on local weather events and the direction they are moving to make the best decisions possible. I love that I can zoom out and see macro influence on more regional climate events and the extended forecast helps prepare for possibilities of what’s to come in a weeks time. There are plenty of features I still don’t use, but find what I need on the app to be useful for my day to day operations.
Living on the Island. Living in Tasmania is unique. It’s different because of the authenticity of the weather. The wind. The clearness of atmosphere right around this beautiful island, that I sometimes take for granted.I am reminded by all we are offered. As we journey on this island it appears starkly different in its natural beauty of sublime landscapes and coast. It is a gift that we should treasure and nurture for coming generations. A pleasure in this world. Dr Peter Willans
Windy is Weather. This is the best weather app I’ve ever used, from winds, to rain, thunderstorms, fires, lightning or swells, this app has it all. With many, many overlays. And the best part is it’s not limited to Australia, you can follow hurricanes and cyclones around the world. It’s a beautiful app for sports men and women alike or perfect for weather enthusiasts. It’s an excellent fun, informative app.
The best weather app by far!. Thank you to the producers of this amazing weather app, it has to be the best and most informative app that I have ever used. I am still learning how to use it day by day, And I still keep finding stuff every time I use it... just watching wind, lightning and thunder and rain layers fascinates me to no end, thanks again...
Best weather app with the subscription. I use this app because I’m the fire warden of the area. The ability to choose the best forecast model for the area and pick the exact location for the forecast is priceless. On top of that being able to overlay actual weather station data or getting the weather radar with an overlay of satellite cloud images helps a lot. Get the subscription. It’s cheap for what you get.
The king of integrated weather information for life’s adventures. The king of integrated weather information for life’s adventures. As an oceanographer and climate data scientist I can tell you that my colleagues look to Windy as the daily tool for making sense of weather information and forecasts. As a dad and a surfer there is nothing more useful for planning a day at the park, on the bike, or surfing the point. The Windy team clearly had a vision and made it happen.
Great weather information on Windy. This app has really useful weather information which can be most helpful in a variety of activities and sports. Being able to track rain, wind, swell and a host of other weather conditions puts it above all other weather tool. Needs a tide feature … or maybe I’ve missed this?
Go to weather App. Currently working at Davis Station, Antarctica and Windy is our go to App for assessing upcoming weather to plan for field trips and operational activities. So user friendly and versatile when selecting locations and switching between models. Works seamlessly across all platforms from phone to PC. Outstanding application.
Windy app. Windy app is amazing. It’s accuracy in showing real time satellite imagery and radar locations and ranges throughout Australia, coastal and world data assist in planning outdoor activities, water activities and travel abroad. As a sailor, it comes in especially useful for course planning. It’s also used effectively in pinpointing concerning weather modification events and geoengineering occurring globally. I use the aerosol and other buttons to gather air quality and protect my health. This is beneficial to global citizens who are invested in family health, farming, maritime activities, travel, travel abroad to see family and explore uncharted regions and more. I intend to upgrade to premium soon to get even more benefits from the app that I also recommend to many online weather enthusiasts.
Windy is Awesome!. Almost the perfect app for me, my only issue is that it loses its value once you subscribe to premium unless you depend on it for work. I think if you could work out what the average subscription term is and provide a one off lifetime premium purchase based off that data, I’d see value in that for me personally. Still a genuine great free app
Winner on Windy. As a farmer and an aviator, this has to be one of the better sites to use. Giving multiple wind directions at different levels with accuracy is fundamental for flying but also knowing everything that’s happening on the ground level for my farming business is very handy as well
Windy. To be able to see the larger pattern of weather in context is a huge resource and much appreciated. I’ve mostly lived in country places in Australia where the enormous skies trace ever changing patterns. Through this app, the patterns of wind and water can be seen world wide and these changes and movements are as good as music. It also helps to see the beginnings of an extreme event… thank you.
Windy review. This is an excellent and thorough app on the weather it is fine as it is. I don’t even use half of its capabilities. I’ve tried to down load the updated version without success. I can’t remember my password and am unable to successfully create a new one. Please don’t abolish this version. You’re a legend. I am happy to make a donation for its retention.
I love this app. The best weather app I have ever used. I have been using it on my pc since it was released and was really thankful when the app became available. We get a lot of thunderstorms where I live and this app is great for monitoring their progress and how bad they might be. There are a heap of great features and I highly recommend this app. Thank you Windy! Very much appreciated! A1 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟
Long range weather. This app has proven very accurate for my needs this year. When having to book flights a couple of weeks in advance to get good rates and then get out on my boat and the weather is almost spot on the forecast. Highly recommended.

Goodish. Although I like the app they need to implement Apple standard to sign up so I can use hide my email.
Very good app. I use it all the time. Sailing or just daily use. Robert
Optimal. It is so informative and helpful, very accurate
Best weather app. The best weather app by far. Always accurate and absolutely worth the subscription!!! This is the ONLY APP I use for weather!
Windy wonderful. I have been a practising professional meteorologist for over 40 years with the Canadian Armed Forces (sea, land, and air), the Meteorological Service of Canada, and with the private sector as a consultant. Positions I have held include Manager of the Ottawa Regional Weather Forecast Centre, and subsequently Director of Aviation and Defence Services providing all aviation weather services to Nav Canada and all weather and oceanographic services to Canada’s military. Retired now and an avid cyclist and outdoors person, I use Windy daily for all my weather needs no matter where on the globe I may happen to be and as the main tool in providing personalized forecasts to friends and family scattered over the globe. It is a superb global weather data and forecast outputs visualization tool. It integrates numerous data sets from numerous countries seemlessly via an extremely intuitive user interface. Data sets such as precipitation from weather radars and strikes from lightning networks are combined into a common multi-national map background that one can scale easily. Ditto for most orbiting weather satellites. It pulls in 3-D numerical weather model outputs from numerous major modelling centres and provides tools to view multiple output fields overlaid onto scalable maps or in tables covering time spans, the vertical dimension, or surface outputs from multiple models together for comparison. In a word, it blows away the tools presently on most professional weather forecasters desks in major national weather services and private sector firms and, best of all, it is FREE!
Hmm. It was good until a month ago. Temperature differences 10 - 15 degrees ????
Windy is the best and most complete app of it’s kind. I use nothing else now.
Great all-round weather app. I had seen mariners using this app on a couple TV shows I was watching and checked it out. I’ve been loving it ever since. I am amazed at some of the specific levels you can look at and the detail that you can get into. I learn something almost everyday while looking around. It’s one of my go-to weather apps.
Nope. Nuh uh.. Greatly inaccurate. That is all.
C’est la meilleure appli pour mes sports extérieurs.. Powerkite, hiking, biking sont bien planifiées avec tous les possibilités que nous offre Windy !!! Merci !
Best weather App. First experience of windy.com came from our Tesla, it showed up on the browser home screen, and a bit of research determined it was used to assist the car with wind, but there’s so much more. And now relying on the app on my device, it gives me a tremendous amount of information and the accuracy is incredible. Can’t say enough good stuff about windy.com.
Greedy greedy. Expensive subscription fees, and now deliberately slowing down the app unless we pay????
Excellent App. I use this almost everyday and especially love it when we travel abroad as it shows the wind , the actual true weather in the destination we are travelling too. The cameras at the locations where we travel is amazing. I highly recommend this app and now have at least 25 of or closest friends using it.
Love this app. as retired storm chaser I appreciate this app for so many reasons and used it for several years because I can still keep track weather conditions for family and friends around the world, give them heads up what’s coming towards them. Thanks Windy 😉
Learning. I find this to be my best weather app and accuracy is fair. Comparing forecasts across a number of apps gives me the best rural forecast. I have found windy to be the most accurate and I appreciate that past weather is not deleted as soon as “now” passes in time. This allows me to see what occurred overnight, upon waking. I would like if there was instructions or a tutorial as I am not able to use many of the features. Kindly, Brad Interlake MB Canada 🇨🇦
Useful features taken away. Took away previously free features (long term weather radar) and locked them behind the premium version. What’s left on the free version is not very useful. Disappointed that they decided to take this direction with the app.
Great app. Been using this app for a while and it’s definitely come in handy. Lots of filters, accuracy might be off on active fires but all in all its a great app
Windy.com long range forecast. Best weather forecast that I have ever used.only one that I will use to plan my motorcycle trips.love this site
App crash. Since the last update, the app is crashing. Even if I restart it, there's nothing to do
Truck driver. the best application ever, I use it a lot in my work to be able to plan my trip, I would recommend it to everyone because it is reliable 👍👍👍👍👍
Outstanding!. Incredibly entertaining, informative, and exciting app to use. With so many features I often lose track of time just playing around with this app! And the traffic cameras are awesome!!
Best weather app. It’s the only app for checking weather.
Love this app. Especially the nice meteogram display. Compact and efficient, clearly shows temps and pressure trends, cloud cover, precipitation. Oh did I mention it’s also accurate? All that’s missing is the nicely Interpolated radar maps from the now defunct dark sky. Monetization is unobtrusive and very reasonable, a rare thing nowadays.
Widget doesn't work after update. Today view page widget not showing up Reinstalling doesn't work
High accuracy weather forecast. Most accurate weather information I found so far! I strongly recommend for anyone travelling often as it offers hourly forecast along with webcams!
Love it!!. This is my go to app for weather conditions regardless of my outdoor adventures are on the water in the mountains are at the beach!
Awesome and thorough. I go offshore west coast vancouver island and rely on Windy forecast and weather and found Windy to be most reliable and accurate!!!!!
Reliable. Very good within 24hrs and better than the weather app for forecast. Great weather aid
Booo Premium. Automatically updated and once free services are now premium only. Classless.
One of the best weather apps, but have a recommendation.. This is the main app I use to find weather info for not only my area, but globally. The only recommendation is to make the weather radar display different colors for different types of precipitation such as blue for snow and pink for freezing rain and ice pellets.
Rosco. Great app! Accurate information for my fishing trip planning. Definitely worth recommending
My go to weather app in Canada. Windy is by far the most accurate weather app I’ve found on the App Store. Amazing detail with the various overlays it allows you to select to understand the atmosphere above.
Excellent at both Simple or Complex. I’m a kayak commuter and my life depends on Windy. Gives a 7-day snapshot of key factors, or you can dig deep. Does wind, swell, temperature, and lots more. Amazingly accurate on rain, in 3 hour windows. It is my most trusted, favourite and most accurate weather app.
USED TO BE GREAT. I dont understand how an app called windy no longer shows wind information? What happened to this, it was the only reason I would look at the app. Is it too much to ask for you to put the wind back in to windy?
This WAS my favourite weather app. Now you have to pay an asinine amount of money to see what the sky looked like more than 2 hours ago! Such a massive disappointment. Not sure if it's ignorance, greed or what but it's a huge blow to those who used the app to help learn about the weather and don't have extra money to burn on random subscriptions! Thanks a lot 👍
Radar Changed?. It used to be that when I selected the radar view it displayed immediately. Now it just shows the grey map until I either zoom in or out. IOS 26.4.2
Awesome... mesmerizing.. Easily one of the very slickest weather app out there. Nice work team!!!
Commercial fisherman. Very accurate, my go to weather forecast
GREAT APP!. Great app but needs more Widgets!! Particularly the smaller square one for the iPhone! Will give 5 stars for more widgets, but won’t be paying for it!
$$$. When this app first came out it was free now you can’t get the long range forecast unless you pay the money 👎
Snow depth. Just wondering why my new phone has no snow depth shown on app. Do I have to pay subscription to get it back ? Just wondering do not want to pay if it’s not available. Thank you
Keep Accessible. Well I have been enjoying the Windy App for many years until you’ve decided to make the most basic features only accessible to those that upgrade! Looking at the upgrade features isn’t even worth the cost. These forecasts models are really useful to have and only making them available to those who upgrade is really disappointing! I’ve been very impressed with your app and have always recommended it to others, until now! I couldn’t write a review with less than 2 stars???
Windyty short review.. Windyty is awesome!!! Hardcore 5 stars!! It helps me fish, hunt, plan my kayaking and mountain biking trips so as the amount of snow for snowmobiling and skiing. It’s such a precise application on wind speed, gusts, temperature and even the amount of snow on the ground and it’s density. Sick app, try it out!
All you need. If accurate weather forecasts are important to you then Windy is all you need.
Very informative. If you’re really into weather, this is the app for you.
application tres utile. un platform pour aider a preparer la semaine ou bien plus
Used to be good, now near useless. Windy used to be great. I used it for years for high level surveying. Recent changes has made this program absolute junk. I can no longer recommend it, or even use it. Sad, that they made such poor decisions that they ruined a really good idea in short order. They should fire the people who implemented the changes over the last two years. These people know nothing about GIS or weather. I am a GIS professional and scientists, and this app is now junk.
Stripping away features. They are now removing features to force you to subscribe. They’ll slowly restrict anything useful using this method until it’s worthless. Terrible business model.
Why?!?!. The app used to be my favourite weather app, until Feb 6 2023, when they made the advanced features locked for free users, unless paying either 25$ a year for a subscription or 40$ a year to buy without subscription. Make the old features free again, and I will think about redownloading. Until then, you can say goodbye to your favourite user. - sincerely, Parker
Levis. Vraiment content de ce système très efficace
Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!
Invaluable. I write a weather blog on Facebook for my rural community in North Carolina, building local forecasts and discussions Originally from the US high plains of eastern Colorado, being weather aware could be a matter of life and death due to severe storms in summer, blizzards in winter, so I’ve been a meteorology enthusiast and studier since a young kid. Getting the model output of the NAM / ECMF & GFS has, until this app, required finding obscure university / government websites -relying on upkeep and maintenance of these pages - and none of these were practical over mobile The only things I could think of to improve the app are NOAA / Met Office warning polygons on the radar view, the inclusion of the US RAP Rapid Refresh model and theta-e (equivalent potential temperature) maps But these are minor quibbles on an otherwise highly sophisticated and immensely useful weather app Highly recommend for meteorologists, weather enthusiasts or people who want weather model data at their fingertips
Windy thoughts. Windy is by far the best weather app. I found it a few years ago, and never even thought of another. It has so much to give , and it is accurate. I even learned some cool weather and related atmospheric stuff. I rely on it for wind especially, as a boat owner, and the tide forecasts, and access to multiple models, and it came in handy to see what smoke the Canadians turned loose on us last year. It honestly took me awhile to get hooked, but only because there are so many options.
Overwhelming Options, Underwhelming Performance. I really wanted to like this app. It offers so, so much in terms of data sources, displays, predictions, and potential usefulness. Unfortunately the app design does not provide adequate tools for users to choose and manage these options. Every data option is excessively detailed, simple choices, like F or C temp. display, cannot be saved even though the SAVE button is pressed. Display options for temp. gradients are inconsistent. Labels for features like the speed of radar animation are barely visible on an iPad and nearly invisible on iPhone. This app offers so much potential. It could have been great. Instead it comes across as a mess of sources that were combined with little thought about function and user experience.
Still not a Storm killer. This is a great app, no doubt, with more advanced wind data and comparable models, for example. But Storm Radar, for all its current bugs and weaknesses, still has some major advantages I can’t ignore, like future radar, likelihood of precipitation graph (not just amounts), simultaneous layers (in paid mode), storm tracks, and push notifications. This means I can’t totally jump ship, as much as I want to. I would also ask that webcams be able to be hidden. But make no mistake, this is a great app that focuses on providing lots of data instead of just being minimalist or entertaining.
All the information you need. Amazing compilation of weather data and accurate modeling. As long as you have a cellular network, a truly local forecast is at your fingertips (not just the nearest weather office, which in my case may be 100 km or more from my location). Temperature, wind speed, cloud cover, cloud level, precipitation, radar and lightning are all right there and remarkably accurate. My colleagues used this in a remote camp in the Yukon Territory and could accurately determine conditions and forecasts for helicopter and fixed wing flying, saving a lot of jet fuel in the process.
Great planning tool for pilots. Some of the outputs like cloud base forecasts for multiple days out I can only get from here and not the NWS! Map is really solid. The meteogram visualization is particularly useful too. I used Windy for free for a long time and finally signed up for the Pro subscription when they paywalled the 11 day forecasts. Worth the money, which is saying something when I already pay for ForeFlight and there’s so much other free government provided weather info out there.
Update, Developer answered. I found the updated program no where near as good or user friendly as the previous versions. Developer does not agree. I see there has been a measurable downturn in satisfaction in the reviews since the update. I hope you are monitoring and bring back what was an excellent program. Being able to click on an area and watch the numbers change as it looks into the future was a plus of the older build. Click the down arrow and you got the graph for the chosen area. Simple, useful. I used it multiple times a day under sail. It was a great program.
Paid for Premium, but not receiving Premium features. I just downloaded Windy app. I even sprung for the Premium service. I got an invoice, verified my email and I registered and set up a password. No premium service features added. I searched for contact and it sent me to the community page. I followed the recommended instructions and tried to restore purchases and it said there were none to restore, even though I have the invoice in my email. I thought this was an established app, but there seemed to be a lot of problems subscribing in the community responses. Hopefully, the developer will reach out here as I can’t figure this out.
Comprehensive global weather vizualization. Windy T gives you a view of the weather situation world wide with the ability to pan and zoom right to your neighborhood. Multiple layers of information can be superimposed not only for every aspect of conditions in real time motion, but specifics for activities such as flying, skiing ,sailing etc..You can run forward 10 days to see the future situation. Living in a hurricane zone I can follow any sytem as it approaches and recently the ECMWF model you can use has been uncannily accurate. There is too much to this app to describe here. Try it.
Excellent app. This app is wonderful for planning and for knowing what’s going on outside. The various layers are super-helpful for Flight planning as well. The simple and intuitive interface is very user friendly. I like that one can get as detailed as they want, with meteograms, etc. Before it was changed, I used to use the Storm app as a supplement, because it showed surface prog charts and storm tracks. Those would be two layers that this app could benefit from ASAP. The other Change I would make would be to be able to place several layers on at once (cloud base and CAPE, for example).
Better than any other weather app, Paid OR Free. This app is an absolute dream to use on the iPad. The ability to toggle through a seemingly endless amount of useful weather filters and customize what you want to toggle through in the side bar makes this app great for almost any user. The satellite view is gorgeous and I can’t wait to see what the Windy team does next. This app is free but funded by donations and I hope other users that love this app are encouraged to keep them going.
Best Weather App. This is the best most accurate weather app I’ve stumbled across. I’ve tried dozens of other apps and they all just copy paste what the National Weather Association says. Windy is the only app that lets me try out different views with different radar to get the best idea of what the weather is doing locally or globally. Best part is it’s free and doesn’t spam you with ads that take up half the screen. I’d give it a six star if I could.
Great Map and App. My family wife and daughter live in the Philippines. For now. Your app really let me be able to keep track of the weather there. As I worry about them so much. Especially because in order for us to get to our house on Daram, Samar we have to travel by boats. I love the way it predicts and shows current conditions of the waves and wind because we travel on pump boats and can become dangerous in high winds and heavy to high waves. Any way i just wanted to thank you for putting out such a good app. Daddy
Mariner’s best weather tool. I live in Southeast Alaska, home of notoriously hard to forecast weather. Windy has become the weather forecasting tool of choice for myself and many other professional mariners that depend on accurate weather predictions to make their way safely in Alaska’s coastal waters year around. Windy’s forecast data resolution & choices of its presentation are absolutely excellent! Thank you for creating a tool that provides the insight we need to travel safely in an unforgiving environment!
Pretty good. Pretty good. I have the premium. My only real issue is as follows. It would be nice to have drop points. When I search one area and try to follow a path I lose my start point on the map. So being able to drop pins would be great. Also having a start and end point would be awesome so I know exactly what’s ahead on my route. Instead of having to search by scrolling along the map the route I think I’ll be taking. I’m a truck driver so that would be immensely helpful
Best DIY weather app. If you want to be your own meteorologist, this is the app. You have four models to choose from, including the renowned ECMWF, and can make your own comparison among the four. If you like the autonomy and are willing to take a little more time, you can do wonders with this app. If you prefer to let a meteorologist do the work, then you’re better off with your local weather station, keeping in mind that the forecasters are working from these same models. I live in a remote area in Alaska where there is no forecast available and for this situation Windy is invaluable.
Was terrific; now gone greedy. I’ve been using Windy for years and loved every minute. The recent updates however are pushing users to “go premium” for a cost. I’d rather put up with ads than pay as if I had to pay for all the apps I want to use, my retirement income would be used up and my dog and I would starve. Of course the real target is younger, working people who don’t mind the $3 here and $5 there (per month.) A better model is to pay once for premium and leave it at that but with so many being sold and then bought by profit greedy new owners, the better model apps are few and far between.
Boat Captain. Excellent surface map and accompanying graphics. Reliability of two day marine forecast is good but long term planning is unreliable after that. Sea surface wind forecasts often completely change after 36-48 hrs. Rarely do I pay attention to any forecast after 3 days out unless it has to do with a coastal low/hurricane event. Obviously, it’s just a forecast and one must look at updated versions as day(s) of concern close in but frankly, I believe forecast so far out ahead are almost for “entertainment “ purposes.
Wind field importance. The atmosphere movement display presentation allows for planning events hours or days in advance. It’s lots of fun viewing. The wind field display is a reliable way to plan special events. Weather is delivered by the wind. New weather comes with new wind field action. Keep up the wonderful Work. I’ve had this app loaded on all my devices for some years now. It is my most one or two most recommended apps. I’ve recently upgraded to yearly subscription and am already pleased 🌝
Windy’s Accuracy and Marine Application. Having free access to Windy has significantly improved the safety and enjoyment of sailing for my wife and I. We didn’t have the budget for a subscription weather forecasting application and have relied on Windy forecasts exclusively to sail 1200 miles to Puerto Vallarta. Studying the changes in airpressure, wind velocity and direction; and the resulting wave and cloud cover forcasts has greatly improve our understanding of the effects of airpressure on weather conditions at sea and thus safety. Our experience comparing forecasted with actual conditions has found Windy to be extremely accurate.
Amazing. Best weather app ever. If all you need to know is the temp and whether it is raining then use this OR any other weather app you can find.....they all do the job. But if you want to understand weather, the complete story, the many many layers of our atmosphere (literal and figurative) in rich detail, if you want the Whole story of our atmosphere this amazing app is what you want. Be patient and explore, this is not a toy but the real multifaceted story of our atmosphere. This is a truly amazing app.
Brilliant. I am a recent refugee from weather underground who have just destroyed their app with the worlds least advisable update. So I have been hunting through a dozen apps for something to make my new go-to source for all things weather. This is it! Totally what I probably always wanted but never knew existed or was possible in an app form. I read all the local NWS Discussions but never before could actually see the eg ECMWF or GFS forward projections to understand anything more. Your app gives me a whole new window into understanding the weather of Southern California and controls thereof. So happy!
Awesome. Windy is a fantastic app, functions well, doesn’t lag, and is up to date all the time. Only problem is that it doesn’t have the outdoor map filter, this is only on the web version. Why? Why is this the only filter missing in the app? It’s one of the best ones! I love using the outdoor map to find trails, track mileage, and determine topography of terrain. HUGE bummer that it isn’t a filter on the app version. I hope that it will be added soon but otherwise this app is amazing.
Revised 10/8 - New update. Removed, hard booted phone and reloaded a second time. App is working perfectly now! Also, quite impressed with the new features! I’ll gladly recant my words. Latest update is useless as it will not show wind, rain, and other data. I’m a premium member and everything worked as it should until the new version updated this past weekend. I’ve deleted and reinstalled. Still useless. Congratulations, you once had one of the very best weather apps.
Rain accumulation feature. I recently used the Windy app and overall, I absolutely loved it. The app was very user-friendly and had a lot of features that proved to be extremely useful in planning my outdoor activities. However, there is one major issue that I came across after the recent update. It seems that the app has removed access to rain accumulation updates, even for the next 3 days. This was quite disappointing as I found this feature to be very informative and helpful in planning my day or week ahead. As a result, I recently deleted the Windy app from my phone. While I appreciate all of the features and capabilities that the app offers, it simply wasn't necessary for me at this point in time. Despite this, I would still highly recommend the Windy app to anyone who is looking for a reliable weather app. Its accuracy and detailed information on wind speeds, temperature, pressure, and more are truly impressive,
Simply the best. This is my favorite weather tool. The radar and lightning depiction are really convenient to use. The true power of this incredible weather app is in its ability to show 4 different forecast models. It is easy to use the forecasts and compare any time in the future amongst models to see if there is a consensus among them. There are so many more features that I can’t even get into here. But let’s suffice it to say that if your plans involve the outdoors at all you need this app.
The only weather app you need!. I have been using Windy for years now. I trust this app above all others. When hurricane Ian hit us Windy said it was coming to my location every day but 1. When all my local weather people were yelling Tampa, Windy said Port Charlotte and Windy was right! We were safe because I was able to book a hotel a week in advance long before they all filled up. Thanks Windy! This is seriously helpful and a tool I would never be without! Highly recommend!
Help!. Update I want to thank the developers for their persistence and patience in assisting me with gaining access to my premium subscription across all devices. The only thing better than the incredible performance of Windy is the amazing team that provide support for the application. Thank you once again!! I’m trying to seek assistance with accessing my Premium account. It appears on my iPhone but will not allow me to access it on my iPad. Somehow my account has been corrupted and I am not able to access help in a traditional manner.
Review for iPhone only. I used to think that Windy for iPhone did not work, but I think that I was using it incorrectly, as I’m used to the iPad version, and the phone version is different. I’ve been using Windy for at least six months on the iPad and it works quite well. I now thin the iPhone version is quite good as well. I like that one swipes the calendar beneath the time widget, instead of trying to drag the widget as one must on the iPad. I’d suggest this feature migrate to iPad as well. The other thing I’d like to see is to have winds and gusts display together, or better yet, have all selected data types display at once. Windy is a fine app.
Great Companion with your current Weather app. I have my weatherbug app and I think this is great companion with weatherbug the big reason why is the 36 map layers I think that the whole lot of layers in the app and weatherbug has 18 that’s only half the layers. I like the wind and wind gust maps because you can storms. I think this very helpful for pilots, skydiving, paragliders and more. Also your latest addition extreme forcast if you think your getting a lot of rain it will show you if it’s normal, unusual, or extreme event Also again a great companion with your current weather app if accuweather or weatherbug or weather channel it’s great thank you
Wonderful app for current and forecasting weather. Windy’s collection of maps and tools, under settings, makes it ideal for checking out current weather, but also for forecasting weather at least 10 days ahead of time. I use it daily, when I used to use a combination of 6-7 apps to feel comfortable with my personal forecasts. I finally found the Treasure Trove of other maps and apps within it, which are easier and faster to use than any other combination of apps. Thank You Windy. Steve
Great App, please remove upgrade banner from premium accounts.. Very good app, but I am a premium subscriber and am annoyed to see a large banner begging me to subscribe covering a lot if the opening map. 1. How do I remove this? 2. Where can I find the premium support the banner promises? Update - thank you for telling me to tap the screen to hide the banner. But, it comes back every time I open the app. On the phone, it takes up a lot of space. Also, tapping on the banner does bring up an article about support, but I do not understand this phrase “Our girls are ready to help you during office hours . . . “ I sort of get the creeps from that.
Always wrong.. As usual I look at this app and it is completely wrong. Right now it’s storming and I went to look at how big of a storm it was and the forecast for the day. It says clear sky’s all the way through... as I’m in a lighting and thunder storm. Also it forecasts storms and they don’t happen but on a day they have marked as 0% precipitation, it’s the only day in months I’ve had rain. The only thing I like about this app is that it shows camera views of local streets. I see other reviews where people love the app. Maybe it’s just my location? Not sure but it isn’t accurate for me.
Wendy is a lifesaver. This may be the most bizarre and non-recreational use of this app, but we rely heavily on Windy because we live exactly 2 miles east of a pulp mill. Windy is reliable enough to let us know if it is safe to leave our windows open during the night. Believe me, the last thing you want is to wake up in the middle of the night and find your house filled with the smell of rotten cabbage crossed with vomit. There are no words to adequately describe the stench, so thank you Windy for helping to improve the quality of our life here.
Founded Cayman Windsurf in the late eighties, so always been “following the Wind”.. This is an Awesome App giving a clear, big-picture, graphical clarification of which coast of our Island, Grand Cayman is directly facing an onshore wind at each point during the period as a storm approaches, collides with, passes and recedes from our shores. Vitally important for those living on the coast, who are wondering when the sea is going to be threatening property, life and limb! And when an offshore wind will turn a typically windward-shore into a calmlGoon. Fascinating to see how systems from hundreds of miles away produce stormy conditions. Love it. Thank you! Chris N
Great for strong storm forecast. I am on the gulf coast. I have other apps for storm and tornado tracking within the hour. I use this app to track cold fronts, tropical storms, and hurricanes. This is the only app I have found which maps air pressure, which is the key metric for hurricane direction and intensity. Being able to determine the storm type, ie cold front vs tropical storm lets me know if I need to secure outdoor furniture against strong winds, or cancel outdoor events for the next 3 days. I love how I can compare eu vs USA weather models for hurricane paths.
Found my weather app. Having tried at least 5 other weather apps over time, I found Windy last week before hurricane Henri (I’m in NE US). I find it to be truly better, and has a different kind of design than then others. As I look through options, I find it’s not hard to navigate and an absolute wealth of info is available and easy to find. I try an unpaid version before upgrading, on the reasoning that if I find the first tier is great, I will eventually want the paid upgrade. In the free version, things are beautifully laid out, so Windy has my vote!
Very interactive weather information and forecasts. Originally started with nice graphical display of wind streamlines acroos the world with smoothly varying scales. Now has forecast models for all weather models, noteably ECMWF, GFS, NAM, HRRR and ICON. This app has forecasts for varying pressure levels, some not available even on commercial apps. I love the webcam feature that allows me to see webcams anywhere in the world. You can set favorite locations to get local forecasts. This app lets you be the weatherman, more so than other weather apps. I have the paid for version to get hourly forecast increments.
This is it. I use windy for flying paragliders and it works so perfectly that I thought it was made specifically for that. I also fly light aircraft and used it for that as well. Eventually however, I finally noticed the airports option and I love all the information it provides for general aviation as well! Couldn’t be happier with this app, has worked flawlessly all over the world. I use the free version but will likely support soon.
Multiple weather models!. One of my favorite features is being able to view the forecast data from multiple weather models (ECMWF 9km, GFS 22km, ICON 13km, METEOBLUE, NAM 5km, HRRR CONUS 3km) all on the same page! And of course you can pick which model to use when displaying a forecast on the map. There are also a large number of map layers that you can use to visualize various information, with quick access to favorites. Windy is great as a “weather app”, and even greater if you like weather details!
The amazing App. It is rare one comes across an app that is so both Useful and Entertaining! Looking all over and watching how the atmosphere can do such amazing things with the weather and the wind reminds us that we are at the mercy of forces greater than we can imagine! I showed it to a Maine fisherman who spent many years fishing on the Grand Banks and now fishes more near shore. When I gave him the link I said while you are out there look what Windy says and then what you observe. He is an old school guy but now a believer in Windy!
Excellent!! Best weather App there is!!. Living in North Carolina and having a place in the Florida Keys I’m always concerned about hurricanes. This app is my go to app and is great because it has three different models. It has unfortunately been right with both Irma last year and Florence this year. It started showing the correct tracks as much as four and five days out because you can click between the different models. I use this app Wunderground and Mike’s weather page. Also they continuously add improvements.
Good so but “loses” premium settings and functionality periodically. I have been paying for the premium version of this app for several years now, the problem is that even though I am logged in, I don’t get the premium functionality like being able to specify the settings at so start up and hourly forecasts. The support has been black box: it gets fixed but no explanation of why or how things have run amuck. Would love to be able to zoom out to a global view like some other apps. I use this app in interior locations chiefly to assess wind conditions at various regional airports
Fantastic but needs just a little more. Windy is loaded with features and information, multiple weather models and lots of ways to display the data. It’s definitely not for the person who doesn’t understand weather systems, but it’s fantastic for everyone who wants real weather data, not the fake “certainty” of WeatherBug or Storm Radar. My only wishes for Windy would be to add weather fronts to the graphics options and have a higher resolution radar display.
Love it!. Love the app. You have all of these great features to choose from and 42 different layers! Things like wildfire, smoke, air quality, satellite imagery and so much more. The radar and satellite imagery are the smoothest i’ve seen on any radar app. They also use future forecast models like the EMCWF and more. They even allow you to look at webcams from all over the Earth. I only do have one complaint though. I wish the webcams were actually live instead of updating hourly. Webcams are a great feature to have on a weather app. This app can be used professionally! One of the best! Would recommend!
Beyond what I could have imagined. This app is so good, I continue to be speechless even after a month of solid usage. It gives me the ability to create custom maps with my color preferences and then watch the flow as time progresses through a range of days. And that is only one thing among many. Since I use it on an iPad and I have somewhat large fingers it can be a little tricky sometimes but once done, it’s saved and I can enjoy the results of my handiwork. I thought I saw it was available for a Windows PC/Laptop and if so, next time I’m on I’m going to get it. Update: I just have to remove 2 ⭐️ because I’m losing my custom color schemes with every update and now I no longer bother with them because it takes too much time. Update2: I just saw that I received a response from the developer last July! I never expected one so now I’m going to add back a Star ⭐️ and follow up with them as they suggested! 😇
Best weather app available compared to all the others. It takes a little bit to understand all the features but it is the best weather app available. It has way more features than the other apps. I am in agriculture so I check the weather everyday. I have used lots of other apps and this has been the best one. I like the ability to compare the different forecast methods. It allows me to find the middle ground and is extremely accurate. Take the time to learn it and you won’t be sorry.
Robust App. Windy has a ton of information to pull from - standard weather info such as forecasts and live data, as well as richer information and graphics to pinpoint your activity for the day. I use it for snow levels, weekly rain, swell/surf, has even served me very well on several road trips to navigate through conditions (thank you/no thank you to driving through Nebraska during wind events) Highly recommend paid plan to unlock features, well worth the investment.
Great app in forecasts, visuals need a little updating. This app is great, it’s very accurate for wind, which is really important here in the Rockies so that we know when the wind is going to be particularly bad. I find the accuracy and timing to be impeccable. One issue however, using black text on red background, which is used in the highest wind elevations is very difficult to read. Typically if you’re going to use a red background, you would use white text.
