A 1 cause It won’t let me rate it a 0. This app is pathetic. Takes forever to load up. Lucky if it actually shows rain. Please don’t get excited and think it will show it in motion, cause it just freezes up. By gosh the ads work good though. Don’t waste your time

So frustrating!. I used the old version for years. It was great! This new version is so slow, if the radar loads at all, which it often doesn’t. I listen to thunder around me and I can’t get a current radar image on my iPad.

Not working properly since updated.. Since the last update I have not been able to open the app. I had to delete it and I’m going to try it one more time.

Unable to save options. I used to have a few cities I was interested in addition to ‘my current location’ but now when I remove them they return when I reopen the app. Also, the alert options, there are SO many not required for Florida, I feel should not default ON and again once I go through all of it to make my preferences, they are not saved. I had to turn off notifications which kinda defeats the purpose and now have removed the app. Until this is fixed. Hope it’s soon!

Like the app. Has a lot of bugs needs to be fixed like right now has no towns or city’s listed on the map been having problems with it for sometime now

Impressive alert accuracy. The weather alerts are spot on accurate for precipitation and lightning in the Tampa Bay area. Very useful app.

Video Forecast BROKE. Too bad Video Forecast is broken on latest update. So much for testing ... UPDATE - Ok,thanks for fixing. I can see it now, unfortunately. And I can see how little time effort and money you put into the update. JUNK, ads, all over. I’ll be deleting the app. I would like to put zero stars but one is the minimum

Constantly Freezes up.. It use to freeze occasionally. Now once opened to the first article it freezes. I have deleted and reinstalled it several times to no avail. Very disappointing as I enjoy the app very much.

Sometimes you just have to go backwards. The new app really stinks! Half the time it doesn’t open up, the other half it lags so bad. I don’t even use it half the time anymore. I am in such a habit of going straight to it, that’s why I use it and then I rememberTo close it and use the Weather app. I would rather use MaxDefender8 but it’s kind a useless. Please fix it

New max defender weather App.. I have used your weather app for years till this latest version which really doesn’t deserve even a one star. I think it’s time you either returned to the previous one which was the best coupled with the new radar. I am a retired NWA Pilot with 29 years of staring at Radars and until this new version you had a weather APP that was really good easy to use and second to none. I do not use it anymore I check once a week to see if you have finally admitted to your mistake and returned to the old one. The old saying don’t tamper with success certainly applies here. The amazing thing is surely somebody has looked at the reviews and if so why hasn’t something been done. All the weather people keep applauding the app how can that be. I now use Storm Radar which has at this point a great radar. You know making a mistake is one thing not correcting it is the real mistake and I can’t believe you continue to use this terrible new version. Go back to the old trusted version that put you number 1 across the Bay Area and Florida.

Radar Crashes on ipad & iphone. Crashes 100% of the time on the ipad and 80% of the time on the iphone. Also, the 24 hr radar moves lightning fast—deliberate pun. Too quickly and I cannot find a way to control the speed. If I drag it, it crashes. I am using the latest software updates. Frustrating. Hope you fix it.

Terrible update. I’m not thrilled with this new version. It should not take me more than five minutes to adjust to an updated app. It’s so completely different and you don’t have a tutorial to go with your update. I will be deleting this app and finding a better one. I’ve had this app for over four years. 😡☹️😡☹️

Inaccurate. The radar is the only good thing about the app. The wx report (percentages) are horribly inaccurate. Weather Underground seems to be the most accurate wx app. Sad are own local wx can't report accurately.

NEWS CHANNEL 8 WeatherMaxApp. I LOVED THE PREVIOUS APP.....the newly updated app is HORRIBLE. Hard to read. Only has live shots of teleprompter. Not user friendly. Cluttered like an advertisement not an actual interactive app. Radar not good at all. Not near as inclusive on layers or accuracy as it was in previous version. Please repost the old app because this new one so awful that I have deleted from phone and having to use the Weather Channel app:(((. I am a News Channel 8 customer all the way morning and evening.....sad that I cant use your app anymore!

Confused by bad reviews. I have an older iPhone 8 Plus and the app and radar has worked flawless. I haven’t had a single crash and it’s very accurate. I used the Weather Channels app for years but it isn’t accurate, I could be in the middle of a thunderstorm and the radar would show clear skies and not a cloud within miles. This app as of July 2021 is dead on with clouds and rain radar, I love it and almost didn’t download it from the bad reviews, maybe people have old phones or bad internet.

Weather App Comparison. I notice this app is showing rain every hour of each day when there isn’t any, while other non-news apps are more accurate. It’s not showing the same weather prediction that the on air news is. Kind of disappointed about it.

Previous comments are true. I thought the comments might be from people who don’t like change or maybe have difficulty figuring out new developments. However I found that everyone of their comments is true about this version of the app. We are in the midst of a hurricane and I can’t find any tracking or forecast. On top of that there are so many ads it is ridiculous. I am uninstalling now. Listen to their comments.

Terrible app.. Trying to watch hurricane coverage. Unable to because it is dominated by a roofing company commercial. I hit the x and it ignores me. Much better app available. I would rate below a 1 if able.

What the Heck were they thinking!. What a terrible revision to what was a good app! It was my go to App for weather. Not any longer. It’s so hard to gather the information you need at a glance that it’s unbelievable! I think they must’ve just hired some new graphic artist and decided hey what the heck let’s just make it all pictures. Seriously. This app is awful. It’s coming off my phone.

New App. I am not the least impressed or thrilled with the new map. It - the animated map- appears faded and blurred. The old app was much better and more detailed. The “pin drop” for your location is way to large and obscures activity in the area. Anyway to roll back to the original app???

Clunky. I was a bit surprised to see so many negative reviews at first. If you use the app yourself you will see why. The app just doesn’t seem to be built well. Slow, a lot of functions are buggy. There’s also a lot of ads.

The app is bloated. The app is very sluggish and bloated. It is now hard to find a view of the weather for the week and it will not load up appropriately when on cellular service. The older app was much better. Please make some improvements to this one so it is useable

Used to be good but.... I don’t know what they did but this app is totally useless now. Radar doesn’t ever show anything even if it’s raining 😒. So it is getting deleted after many years of this being my go too weather app. Just irritates now and I have enough stress in my life without my weather app of all things making it worse.

Should be called a downgrade. I hate this update (or at least that’s what they claim it is). The radar is awful compared to the old version, more ads (ugh) and a terrible hourly forecast format - what’s to like? Not much. Off to find a new weather app.

The previous version was better. I used the previous version for years as my go to for weather. I was able to easily change the area I wanted the weather for, look for specific information without having to figure out where to look. This new version has to many graphics that makes it hard to read. I couldn’t figure out how to have access to different locations. I was unable to get the information I wanted. The changes made me, a loyal user for years, delete it, totally frustrated! I wish you hadn’t changed it!

Next to Useless!!!. This never seems to work when there is any weather. Now it goes into an infinite state of loading data, which it never stops. It is totally useless.

All Gone. I have used this for years and liked it. I especially liked it for the earthquake layers and just for the world map. It was more handy than Google maps for looking for roads and towns. Now, suddenly it won’t even open. I deleted it and am having trouble finding its equal. SAD 😥

iPad OS is only portrait, no landscape. Seriously? Do you think iPads are just big phones? We have to turn full sized iPads sideways just to see your weather app. While I don’t particularly like the iPhone version, this app is unusable on the iPad. I used this daily for weather updates and now I’m removing it from my device. Thing is, I’ll probably never know if you fix it because I won’t load it again just to find out.

The app won’t open any longer. I tried reinstalling the app when I started having issues but it won’t even open up. Please get an update that fixes this. Hurricane season is here. It used to be helpful

BAD UPDATE - NEW FORMAT UNUSABLE. Previous app was almost perfect. Cannot use this app anymore - New format is unusable. Skytower 13 app uses this app's previous format and works perfectly so I changed to that. TERRIBLE CHANGES: 1. Video Forecasts - Plays but no picture. 2. Radar Map - Too slow to load. Also, if you turn on your location, a giant peg appears obstructing radar details around you. 3. Current Conditions - Large pretty graphics substituted for easy to read information of previous app - BAD. I'll use the SkyTower13 app until you guys fix this one. Please revert to the previous format.

Downright Horrible. I couldn’t be more disappointed. The best radar matched with the worst GUI one can imagine. I don’t want to say too much here. Perhaps the GUI was written by one of our local junior high schools. Basically, It’s not ready for roll out. There are far better.

App update ruined this Max Defender 8. This was my go to app for weather everyday! Recent update will not allow the app to rotate to horizontal view on my Ipad Pro. Since I have a keyboard cover, the vertical view is unusable. Format changes were NOT an upgrade as well! Time to delete this app.

Don’t count on them in an emergency. This app is horrible. If you lost power and need updates in a hurricane, well you can find out about window vendors, or Experian, or any number of ads on this app. But actual news you need, live feeds of what is happening… Forget it! This app stinks. They say they are on your side. They are not. They give preference to advertisers and rich people who have internet connection somehow during a hurricane. The rest of us… not so much! They advertise “oh you can count on us in a storm.” What I can count on is a lot of advertisements and no live feeds when I’m in danger. I’ll pass.

The new app stinks. Needs fast speeds and high bandwidth to open. Uses too much data. Useless most places as it will not open. Try the channel 7 app. Works better This app has not improved. It used to be great. Now it will not load! I am deleting it!

Avoid until it’s better. The new app version that came out in 3/18 is considerably worse than its predecessor. The links for videos just takes you to the mobile site. Crashes constantly. Avoid until it’s enhanced and more similar the older version I’d avoid.

New weather app. New weather app is awful. Far too busy. Liked previous format it was easy on the eyes to view on cell phone this new app is not. Will probably use another local station weather app.

Hate the update. I loved the MaxDefender8 weather app before the updates. I absolutely hate the app now. It is much harder to use, the radar is not easy to use. I really wish that it was not so un user-friendly. I will use another app until this one is better!

iPad no auto rotation to screen orientation. The app used to auto rotate to screen orientation which was great for those using an iPad with a stand. Having to remove the iPad and change orientation is just not convent for normal usage.

Sooo many ads.. This is supposed to be a weather app. Not Facebook. Trying to use and view any of the pages and I’m bombarded with scrolling ads, pop up ads and then cut aways to ads for games. Way to frustrating to sift through when I need my weather. Not worth anyone’s time or energy.

Terrible Update!. This update is awful! Can’t get alerts to my phone anymore! Very cluttered and does not work properly! Switched to Fox News 13 for my weather updates! Get the old version back! It worked great!

Worst weather app ever!. Who created this app?? They have no idea what they r doing. It is sloppy. It is unorganized. It is not even close to being current on major issues. Or if they are.... i have no clue how to find it. Just bad! You guys need to get a new app creator!

Used to be great.... After I updated the app it no longer shows the percent chance of rain in the hourly view. This feature was THE reason I used this app and now it's gone. Very disappointing.

Latest version works great!. I don’t get the ratings, I use this on an iPhone and have no problems. Shows me weather where I am and a 5 day forecast. What else do you need!

What good is radar from 3 hours ago?. The radar on this newest version of this weather app is below average. The map doesn’t automatically open to my current location. It also is hanging onto a map image from 3 hours prior. I want to know if it’s raining now, or coming close. Very disappointed.

Not Broke Don’t Fix. I really do not like this new weather app at all. Its predecessor was clean and uncluttered. When you paused it, it had the yellow squares for high wind, the blue diamonds for hail, the green circles for strong thunderstorms and lightning, and the red triangles for tornados. I loved those icons because you tapped on them and there was important information. If those things still exist in this new app, then someone is going to have to show me where, because I can’t find anything in this new one. I wished they would have just left well enough alone and kept the prior app. Thank goodness that the Sky Tower 13 weather app still uses the old format. I absolutely love it. As of today I have totally switched to Fox’s Sky Tower 13.

Alerts for non-emergencies. I was awoken at 4:31 this morning by a dense fog alert. I knew I had better take immediate precautions to keep my family safe so I quickly got up, went out to my car, and turned the low beam headlights on. As I crawled back into bed, I was so grateful for this app warning me about the dense fog in such a timely manner. I promptly fell asleep... I wish that were the case. Instead my day started at 4:31. PLEASE fix the app to make it possible to sign up for which type of alerts you want. I can guarantee I won’t check off the box for “dense fog”!

Giant Step Backwards. This app used to be good and I used it several times a day. With this current version it not only looks retro to a fault, it doesn’t orient itself to landscape mode, making it useless on my tablet. Go back to the old version and I’ll come back.

How do I get the old one back?. This new update needs to be undone. It’s not at all user friendly and the layout is too complicated to find information quickly. I’ll wait one more week to get something useful but then I’m deleting it.

Max defender 8 update. Extremely disappointed in this app now. Previous version was much better.

Future Isn't Useful. My mother and I have been experiencing the same issue on both of our copies of the app: future predictions don't show the next hour, but the 8:30 PM and on time frame. It's 11 AM, and I want to know what happens at 12 PM. I don't care about 8:30 yet and it isn't useful. Since this is the entire reason I downloaded the app, I'm close to deleting it.

No longer beneficial. Was a great app but somebody just had to mess with it. “WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL RADAR” now just a shadow of itself. Goodbye old friend, moving to the Weather Chanel.

Formerly half way decent app lost its knack. In the past, I was willing to overlook the less than stellar user interface and the slew of ads for the mere fact that the app, similar to the website, provided the option to view a forecast on the interactive radar screen. Ever since this feature was removed, there is nothing left to positively set this app apart from the various other weather apps, the bulk of which are providing a much more intuitive interface. If the developer were to bring back the interactive forecast feature and were to also offer removal of the ads for a one-time payment, then I'd rate this app much higher again, as I did before.

Good job. Location problems?? Not if you know how to SIMPLY change lacation, delete the default, presto duhhhhh..... Very useful app, the one I paid for doesn't show storm track, and this is free!! 👌👌👌👍👍👍🌟🌟🌟

Ugh. I have used this app for years and really enjoyed it. But your latest upgrade really is horrible! Great, now I have to find a new weather app.

Very good app but.... I would like to have the default opening location be my own city. Even when I leave it on my city, it switches back to U of T when opening. I just received severe weather alerts that don't apply to me. Any way I can change that? Other than that I am pleased with the app.

Yes, there IS a prob w/location. I've done everything, including enabling Show Compass, in which you give the app permission to use your location. Doesn't matter. Every time you restart the app, it reverts to its preferred loc. Really, there should be a simple fix for that... And if any of you can spell out how you're changing the default in the starred list and making it stick, please share. Mine READS Oldsmar but shows the app default. Adding a star because if you tilt your phone horizontally you can see the map w/o extra crud on screen.

Pop-ups have ruined what used to be an excellent app. Pop-ups and unwanted videos all the time. App is awful!!!!

STICK WITH FOX13 RADAR. Fox 13 has the best and most accurate radar. This Max radar is horrid. It used to be good.

Poor Upgrade. Really dislike the new version. Basically they’ve put their brand on a canned version used by other stations. The radar is horrible.

Roofing Consultant. I use a weather app daily for nighttime thermal imaging of commercial roofing. I always relied on Channel 8. However, I finally deleted the Max Defender 8 as it is the worst ever. Has no one at channel 8 read the reviews? I now use competitors weather apps.

Don't fix it if it ain't broken. This app used to be my go to weather app. But the new design has completely ruined it. The carousel style menu is very unpractical and wastes a lot of space. It was much more efficient having the menu at the bottom of the screen. When I open the app, the first thing I want to do is check the radar, and it was continent how it opened right up to the radar. Bring us back the old layout!!!!

Zero stars?. I have never hated an upgraded app version more! I’ll be using the Channel 13 weather app which is just like your OLD version until something changes. This upgrade is really THAT horrible.

Horrible update!. It’s an exact copy of BayNews 9’s weather app! I didn’t like their app—that’s why I downloaded yours. Not anymore—deleting it off my phone now. Should have left it like it was 😩

What a joke.. I have used this site for almost ten years. No more. Complicated, non user friendly, etc., etc. What a joke. The designer should be fired. Going to get my weather from someone else.

Rating as of 7-7-15. Crashing has stopped after update, however videos are now missing. Still a great app and very useful for radar. Would be great to create better localized rain and storm percentages and to know timing of those storms (am or pm). It seems to cover such wide areas.

Horrible update. I depend on the radar view, and since the update I can only choose Max Defender Radar or Tampa NEXRAD on my iPhone. You should have left the good old version alone. New is not better in this case.

6.8.1 cheap looking background. The app it self is very helpful but who ever decided to go with the CHEAP looking background needs to have a walk about moment and do some soul searching. :-).

Wow. Just... wow!. Tampa Bay’s most dangerously inaccurate weather forecast. I used to love this app, but the new version is dreadful. As for the actual accuracy, you may as well toss a coin.

Much less friendly to use after update. After this update, harder to use. Radar images don’t always show up.

Locations problem finally fixed!. I had downloaded this app some time ago and had the same problem reported by many with the default location, which always defaulted in University of Tampa, even after deleting that location and choosing your own. This update fixed it, so I no longer get irrelevant weather alerts!

Storm Team 8 Weather Max. Terrible! No instructions other than to drag the pinpoint from Tampa, FL. Not AT ALL user friendly! After a great deal of trial and error, when I got a "home" setting, it would not show data. Kept getting msg., setting failed, check Wi-Fi and make sure airplane mode is off. Did all that. Still doesn't work. I'll just use the national weather channel. This is NOT an improvement!

Why did you “upgrade” this??. This had always been a great app. This update has made it less intuitive and more complicated. I am removing it from my devices.

Used to be my go to for radar. If you like to see an app crash in an instant, this is for you. It quit working over a month ago. Update got it to open once and work for a minute or so. Save your bandwidth and space. Wait until they get the time to make it work right before adding it. Sad as it used to be a really good radar app. Will wait a while before deleting it forever.

Best weather app!. If you live in tampa this app is awesome! Live radar, alerts & hurricane tracking. Never had a problem with updating it to my current location either. Works great!

Pop up ads are terrible.. Pop up ads are terrible. Trying to get storm info and it keeps showing pop up ads. Tacky, tacky to WFLA for allowing ads during a weather crisis!

Used to be my favorite weather app. This used to be my favorite weather app until about a month or so ago. I can no longer rate it 5 stars. Now I cannot get it to open on my phone. Everything is up to date, iOS and the app. It works on my iPad but not my phone. And considering the weather we've had here in Tampa Bay the past month, a good local weather app is of great importance. Please roll back the updates so I can use my favorite weather app again.

Was Nice but Went Downhill. Since the recent update, this app has two new problems: 1. Slooooow to load; 2. In addition to ads at the top and full screen ads when you change views, there are new banners for video and chat - and no apparent way to turn them off. I now use a different weather app: Tampa Weather by TBO, also available for free in the App Store.

Needs improvement. Don’t like an Ad blaring in my face when opening an ap. Downloaded twice and deleted .

The upgraded is not better. The upgraded app is very inferior, to the prior app. Worthless. In this instance, change was not good. Perhaps the next upgrade will fix the inferiority of this app.

Overhauled. The app was great. Now it’s horrible. Searching for something better.

Hate it. I always used the previous app but I really don’t like this one. In fact, I’ve downloaded the Fox weather app and am currently using that one. PLEASE BRING THE FORMER ONE BACK!

Updated version terrible!. What happened! I literally used this app everyday, now I don’t even know where everything is. The radar is horrible!

Use frequently...traffic no longer works. I use this app all the time. Typically tracking weather and traffic. Recently traffic is no longer available just show the map. I really like this option but If this isn't fixed I will switch to another application.

New weather app. Sorry but liked the old format a lot better. Easier to use.

Beautiful and Accurate. This app provides you with the information you need quickly and it is very easy to navigate. Would recommend for anyone in the Bay Area.
