New app no better. Thought maybe the much hyped new app would be an improvement. Not so much. Topics seem randomly placed with the same articles in latest news, business and sports. Just as mixed up as old app except in tiles instead of just titles. Still has ads. I still see no ability to search. Remains to be seen if they will do any better job of keeping articles updated. Right now looks like they only added some lipstick And now it crashes and locks up my phone and ipad. Totally useless at this point. The app is finally functioning in early September. But if you are expecting any actual content change you’ll be disappointed. Most of the featured stories in each section are days old! Annoying ads are inserted every paragraph which makes it hard to scroll without clicking them (on purpose I’m sure). I see Herald tweets and can’t find those stories anywhere on the app. Very disappointing as a subscriber (who had to give up print because it was only actually delivered to me 10% of the time). This is pretty much the same thing, delivers a 10% experience so thats half a star.

Cannot use with iPaf. The new app does not work with iPad. Clicking the section tabs does nothing or results in page error. Only way to use is to turn page by page to get to your section. Cancelled my subscription. Could not get a person on the phone for tech support and my emails ignored. Dysfunctional organization

No FIU Topic. I started subscribing to the Herald and downloaded the app, in hopes to get instant access to great news coverage of FIU and FIU Sports. Sadly there’s no topic for FIU, that I can set in the app. And the amount of news coverage is nearly non-existent. Unless one becomes available and the coverage gets better, I’ll continue going through Google News.

Simply the worst newspaper app ever. I subscribe to the e-edition of 6 different newspapers. The Herald’s version is extremely user unfriendly and the “improvements” made things worse not better. It is extremely unstable and there are always difficulties in downloading. I must sign in each time with my user name and password. Everyone associated with it should be fired and anyone who hired them should also be fired. It is a complete embarrassment to the Herald.

Unstable disaster. This is my second review. Since the first over a week ago it has only gotten worse since the “bug fix” update. More unstable. Not opening until it’s deleted and reinstalled. Crashing. Please have your developer fix this or go back to the old app. The website is rendered unusable by these bugs which will inevitably result in a loss of subscribers.

Horrendous!!!. I am extremely disappointed & frustrated with the new app. It is NOT user friendly & has many glitches. I am constantly having to restart the app. Why it was upgraded I fail to understand. It went from bad to worse! If it was to save money, well you get what you pay for! Get your act together because you will be losing me as a customer as well as many others! Does not even deserve a 1 star! Too Many Complaints!!!

The worst App ever encountered. The Miami Herald, which in my estimation today is a third rate newspaper run by California Democrats that have destroyed that state, has now topped their list of errors by making this App. I have been twenty minutes trying to read parts of the front page, where there is no news about what is going on in Afghanistan, and still cannot manage this App. My next step will be to cancel my subscription to this, many years ago, good newspaper.

Great newspaper, poor app.. Long-running complaint: often displays no items, says to pull to refresh. You can keep doing that like a yo-yo, same message. When I tried to open a link to a Herald candidate opinion, kept getting prompted to sign in. So u sign in...then it's repeated all over again ad nauseam. Good grief, even the Sun Sentinel app works like a breeze. There is really no excuse for a big city newspaper to degrade itself and its fine product with such a bad app. And yes, I've deleted and re-installed the app many times trying to overcome this, and yes, the iOS is up to date. In response to your response (thank you!), where and how exactly does one "disable Private Relay"? In response to your second response on my issue, Private Relay was/has never been on. Could there be another solution to the non-loading of articles problem? Thanks. UPDATE: Here we go again. Cannot sign in on my spouse's phone, keep getting message something like insufficient credentials. Can read stories on my phone but links don't open. Can someone get there stuff together? Hire the app coders at the Sun Sentinel or something. Why am I paying for frustration? Yes yes tried deleting app and signing in, iOS up to date, blah blah blah. Just fix the thing, this is really a very basic error that should be easily corrected.

This App is Almost Unusable. I rate it a Zero.. I have had the “MH” app and updates since introduction. Leaving aside that stories are repeated in a wonton fashion when you scroll down, it is hard to open the ones you want to read, if you are lucky. Others open for the blink of an eye then disappear - over and over. This is the only news site I watch that acts this way. What is McClathy thinking? Is it thinking at all about this?

Worst app ever. At least once a week, an issue will not show up and I’m left without a paper. I have had to delete and re-download the app multiple times. Extremely frustrating because I have to reset the features each time. I would go back to a physical paper but they can’t seem to deliver it without throwing it on the wet grass every morning so after 25 years I canceled that. If they don’t fix the bugs in this app soon they’ll be losing a client for good.

Can’t access news. The whole point of this app is to provide access to local news. Unfortunately, most articles are locked in the app, and I am unable to log in. Repeated emails and calls to customer service over the past month have resulted only in them insisting that I don’t have an account. I finally let it expire yesterday, and promptly got an email asking me to renew my subscription, so clearly they do know that I exist and that I cancelled my subscription. I think local news is a necessity and would like to be a subscriber, but there is zero point to me paying for this app every month when I am locked out of nearly every article and customer service cannot locate me as a customer, much less fix my access. Update 11/14: I received a canned response to contact customer service, with a link to the very customer service that was unable to locate my subscription any of the times I called and emailed in the previous weeks, as well as for earlier problems with the app. So— thanks for nothing? Maybe someone there could reach out with actual assistance and a commitment to solving the problem? If so, I would be delighted to resubscribe.

Nice combination of app and access to edition style. Easily readable via my phone and neat to be able to pull up the e- edition of the paper as well. Ads are not obtrusive on the home screen, which is nice.

App is HORRIBLE. I have deleted and reloaded this app for six days running, as often as four times a day. If and when it finally opens, the current day’s newspaper will appear, BUT when I go back in the next morning, the prior day’s paper comes up. I then have to start the whole process over. It really is unbelievable. Do not even try reaching customer service as you will never reach anyone. I subscribe to WAPO and NYT, and I never have a problem. Have been a customer for 20+ years. Will not renew.

DON’T BOTHER WITH THIS!. It should be simple to search for information but they make it difficult. They offer very limited information. I don’t need to work this hard to get my local news. Trying Sun Sentinel next. Unfortunately The Herald will not survive if they waste their customers’ time like this. Too bad for the employees except for the ones who make decisions to offer this crappy product!

Maybe the worst news app ever. 1. It’s big , lots of choices, and it is so slow it’s pathetic. 2. How do you know your mobile app is bloatware-when you need a book to explain how the app works like this one does. 3. The app does not even load sometimes. 4. I really don’t know how the app made it out of testing.

Worst News App. I’m a long-time subscriber to the Miami Herald and really want to support local journalism. However, this app is trash. It constantly crashes, forces you to login constantly, and it’s a complicated scavenger hunt to find. It’s incredible that this is a product presumably built by professional adults and not elementary school students. F-

So tired of dealing with it. I feel bad for the staff, working hard and subscribers can’t get to content. I am sick and tired of being a subscriber and not being able to get into the app or online. ALWAYS asking for login and even though they are saved on all devices it says it is wrong. So I reset the password. It works the first time and the next time it wants a login which it won’t except. AGAIN! Over and over. It is a McClatchy issue. The same thing happens on my KC Star account. Won’t be renewing either. After another year of it, I’ve had it.

Unusable. The app simply does not work. No articles show up, and there is no way to sign in with my subscription. I don’t know if this is an issue with not being ready for iOS 15 or some unrelated issue but all I get out of this app is push notifications that don’t even pull up articles when I click on them. Very disappointed.

Links don’t work. You receive a notification about a new story in your iPhone. You click on that link. The link takes you to the app. Then, you wait as the app tries to process the link. After a few minutes, there is a time out. You end ugh on the landing page for the top stories. But you don’t have the story to which you had clicked through. Disappointing and not really helpful.

Dud of an App, Disappointing. I wanted to like this app, cause i’ve missed reading The Herald since we no longer get a paper subscription, but it is dreadful. No Search, no Neighbors, pop-ups... It is not easy to use. Usually I just access The Miami Herald from the email they send, daily. I support Journalism, but this app is a subpar.

Dude!?. I have to delete and reinstall the app every other week because my subscription is not recognized. Only been a subscriber for 5 (million) years. Herald never fails to charge the monthly cost, but can’t seem to get the app right after being around for so long....VERY FRUSTRATING. This is 50th and last timeI’ll reinstall. Pure trash. I would give no stars if I could. Takes forever to load pages, page links don’t work. A third of the page is taken up by ads. The old version provided an experience similar to reading the newsprint version. This does not. The business office has taken a dump all over the readers by sacrificing a good app for ad revenue and letting incompetent developers write it to boot.

Worst. App. Ever!. Loading problems are frequent & infuriating. Can’t go to continuing pages in e-edition format. The Weekend Section is split so a piece is lost. Trying to increase the type often causes it to flip to the next page. We get that this new format is to cram ads down our throats but at what point do we readers decide that navigating this out-of-control roller coaster is no longer fun or even possible?!

Glitch. If I could leave no stars, I would absolutely do so. This app is horrible. When I read my newspaper and I accidentally pressed one of the ads I am unable to get it off of my screen. I have to shut down my whole tablet just to get the newspaper back up. It’s impossible to get back to the newspaper to read it. The ad has no close button. Terrible. Very inconvenient. This app needs to be reworked. Too many glitches.

Incredibly Glitchy. When is the Herald going to get its digital version working correctly? Once again it changed the iPad app, but it continues to crash. Another problem is if you want to read an article as it looks in the physical paper the article will become out of focus as you read it. You have to double click the article and read it in a pop up.

Beta version. I am thrilled this morning after reading today’s paper in the new version of Edition. It is a pleasure to use compared to the glitchy, unfriendly old version. It almost makes me not miss a real paper version!

The Newspaper is Gone. I absolutely abhor the new app. It now resembles a news feed typical of social media. If I wanted to get my news from a social media news feed I would use a social media app. The previous interface combined the traditional look of a real newspaper with digital technology enhancements. It was like literally having the newspaper delivered to your front door, but on a modern digital screen. I wouldn’t have a problem with the new app if it gave you the option of switching to the traditional newspaper view. I just renewed my subscription, but once it expires I’m done with Miami Herald. I guess I’ll just have to go to social media to get my news going forward.

Needs Work. Is there a fix being worked on for this app? Ever since the update it’s been pretty much unusable. I’m a few days away from cancelling my subscription. It crashes, it takes sometimes over a minute to open, and hard to navigate. Please advise. Very disappointing.

Constant Crashing. The app is extremely unstable. When you are reading an article it randomly closes the article and goes back to the main menu. I have to close the app and open it again and sometimes it doesn’t even open. I’ve tried many times to update the app in the App Store but there have been no bug fixes. Very frustrating.

Can’t report delivery problems. This app used to have an area where you could easily report delivery problems. Now it doesn’t. I reported that to app feedback in May 2019, but no change. My carrier delivers whenever it is convenient to him, which means that on the weekends he is late or doesn’t deliver at all. It’s very annoying that you can’t report that in the subscription or delivery areas.

I love the Herald…. …but hate the app. Genuinely the worst app I use—still, I use it, because the journalism is important to me. Here are three of the most glaring flaws: (1) if you click an in-text link to another article, it pulls the new article up in a browser. The browser is paywalled. So basically, no in-text links. (2) on the e-dition, you effectively can’t navigate. There is no way to go back a page, and if you try to open the table of contents, the app crashes. (3) don’t click on the push notifications. Just don't—the app *might* open, but even if it does, it takes about a minute and will usually crash.

This was an upgrade?. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! Latest version of program is a joke! Previous version felt like you were reading a paper copy. The links to remainder of a story don’t function, when you enlarge a page it gets stuck in enlarged view. This is very frustrating and causing me to consider canceling subscription. The rating is really 1/2 a star!!

The new version is even worse. I was so looking forward to an improved product and what they now have is actually worse. It constantly errors out when I try to download a daily and on the slim chance it actually works the downloaded version is not there when I open the App again. You have hit a new low.

Ruined the app by injecting commercials. I am a long time subscriber, recently the app has added commercials mandatory to hear after every couple of stories read or before viewing video content. This is torture to the user especially when the only commercial repeatedly played is for NBC 6, you will be forced to endure the same commercial a dozen times to read the daily edition, and guess what the next day it starts all over again, this has ruined the app, hopefully the rocket scientist who added it will realize how bad he’s alienating readers

Horrible!!. Why support local when you can’t even read it on this crappy! Will take my money & support to the sentinel if this crap is not fixed !!! App is a blank screen and always loading cannot read any stories at all…..it has not been functioning since it’s been rebuild

Just poorly edited and curated. “Local news” is rarely about South Florida. 4 hours ago a major issue related to the election was decided. Not covered here. Too many sports stories are listed in latest news at the expense of real news. When hurricanes are in the news, outdated stories stay up creating confusion. An app should keep me current. This does not.

Almost There. The eEdition is a little dorky going from page to page. I have to constantly shrink the article so that it allows me to go to the next page. I would also like to see the day on the bottom of each of the editions besides the date.

App never works. This app is totally useless! Stories never load. Not on my iPhone or on my iPad. I have deleted the app and reinstalled it multiple times, yet it never works. It’s incredibly frustrating and makes it challenging to support the Herald, which is an institution I value and want to support.

Simply horrible function, with the insult of adverts. Just junk.. This stands out as one of the worst subscription apps ever. After paying for a yearly subscription, one is still subjected to ad after ad. This makes navigating the site difficult as well as annoying. I wish I could get a refund, and I cancelled the subscription immediately.

App is terrible,. I continually have trouble with the Miami Herald app. This morning I only got the first 13 pages of the paper. Everything else was blank. I finally shut down and rebooted and ot just downloaded for about 10 minutes until I shut down. Now I deleted the app and now I can’t down load it.

Glitchy app with too many ads. This app is prone to glitches where it won't open or where an article closes while you're reading it. It also has too many click-bait- style ads that make navigating the articles cumbersome.

THIS APP DOESN’T WORK ON IOS15. I seriously was thinking about to be a paid subscriber, but if the experience with this clunker app will be as useless it is right now definitely to be a subscriber will not worth it! I follow your advice….I cleaned the cache, uninstalled the app, clear the cache again and reinstalled the app and NOTHING works…I think your app is not designed to work for iOS 15…anyway is USELESS!

Bad to Worse. This app has gone from bad to worse. The format has always been terrible and now the “eEdition” which is a replica of the paper version is out of focus and difficult to use. The Sports on the Air section of the Sports Page is about 2 weeks out of date. I have left comments on the Help page but they seem to fall on deaf ears. One star is too generous for this app.

Just OK but better than paper. I hate headline style news. It feels like a tabloid and I don’t trust tabloids. I prefer the full newspaper section on my PC or iPad. The reading part on the iPad is fine. Nice adjustable fonts and quick response. Missing are links to previous articles in the herald and the ability to email an article to someone in your contacts. Also missing is access to games. The settings section is incomplete ( links don’t connect to what they say), there are no instructions on using the app. The app has been up a while. Expectations are higher.

Needs major bug fixes. The recent update crashes. It needs to be reinstalled after each crash. As compared to other online papers it is poorly laid out and disrupted by adds. I will stop my subscription unless the experience quickly improves. Update: It doesn’t crash any longer. Overall experience as compared to other newspaper apps is ok, customization of app remains a bit convoluted.

Content is locked. I have been an In-App subscriber to the Miami Herald App for over 5 years. However, I can no longer read the news stories anymore. What has changed? I continue to pay for the subscription but have very limited access. I’m not the only person this is happening to. ***PLEASE HELP***

Will not update. Problem 1. The eEdition will not update, is four days behind. App asks for me to login but there is no place to do it. Why does it log me out? Why can't I log in? Problem 2. Deleting and reinstalling app causes saved articles to get lost. Why can't they be saved to my account? Overall, app is very buggy on iPad.

Tech support for eedition is horrendous. No question, the Herald is a top newspaper with a talented staff and a history of professional journalism behind it, so why can’t they put their resources to adequately support the many problems they have with the eedition? My digital subscription worked until it didn’t, and I have been unable to fix the issue (denying me access). When I ask to speak to someone at technical support, they say they don’t have a tech support dept. per se. And you can only call only during their business hours, which may have you waiting for a day or two. I’ve had the same issue spreading intermittently throughout all my devices (desktop, iPad, iPhone) like a virus, and no solution in sight. My digital subscriptions to other newspapers always work without a hitch. Why is this so difficult to correct?

Terrible App. This is the worst format ever. Always having issues logging in and the new format is awful. Bring back the actual paper format. I am usually resigned to logging in because our carrier never has the paper edition delivered early, if at all. I am extremely frustrated and I have been a subscriber for 35 years. Totally exasperated. I would give zero stars if possible.

“Click-Bait” style headlines makes it feel cheap. So-so as far as being current. Articles are repeated often across the few news categories. Limited customization as far as what article topics you are interested in. But the thing that makes it seem more like a tabloid rather than a serious news source is it’s proliferation of “click-bait” style headlines, making it feel cheap and not to be taken seriously. Your grade school children might like that style though for their school assignments. No ability to customize the news categories you want vs. what they want you to see. No search capabilities.

App does not work. Open a page Select a story. Start to read. And before you know it the app slips back to front page or closes. I have written customer service 3 times and still no fix. These people are wasting my time

I’ve been involved from the early days of development of the app. And so disappointed that it’s so unfriendly to use. Can’t you mimic the papers who make their apps more user friendly? The eversion is one issue important to me. It is a nice try though. But only that.

The worst app update. The new app is buggy and most of the time just doesn’t even load the content. The only way I css as n now see the content is via the website. This app is junk.

App Constantly Crashes. Worthless app freezes & crashes within seconds of opening, even for paid subscriber. Most recent version is worse than prior versions.

Where’s the comment section. App required an upgrade yesterday and now comments section on articles is gone.

Not Good. There’s no way to Search for anything. There’s no specific Food section with recipes choice. There’s no Restaurant reviews or way to Search for restaurants that failed inspections. No Movie reviews. The Miami Herald is no longer a Top newspaper more like a Tabloid. Very sad.

App fails to load frequently.. Blue screen comes up then disappears. I have to delete and reload. Reported to offshore and he puts me on hold, comes back and says “all fixed”. Comes up fine for a few days, then crashes.

Even worse than before. This was always a glitchy app but after the latest update it doesn’t even load.

New App AWFUL / Virtually Unusable. When developers “improve“ an app, you expect it to work better with improved functionality. This app went from a Tesla to a Model T with a flat tire! It is virtually unusable, and is an exercise in frustration and disappointment. Avoid at all costs, and just get a subscription to USA TODAY.

The worst app-when will they fix it?. I subscribe to the paper. The Herald app is the worst! It hangs and freezes when opened. It crashes and returns to iOS when opened. Don’t bother downloading the app!

TERRIBLE!!!!!. How stupid. I can’t believe what they did to the app. You’ve got an ad that takes up 1/3 of you page now. Constantly! There is no way to get Reid of it. You can’t expand the paper to the full page. When you try to get an article to expand large enough to read it the stupid thing changes pages. DO NOT GET THIS APP UNTIL THE FIX SOMETHING!

Totally inferior. Between the lack of a search feature to the plethora of pop up ads, this is just a totally inferior newspaper app. You also cannot forward an article, a major pleasure of a newspaper. The Hersld really has become a tabloid.

After recent update Crashes all the time. Poor app, very slow in loading and multiple crashes just to get to the front page. I wish, I could get my money back. I purchased a 12 month package.

About ready to give up on the herald. What’s the problem ? App doesn’t open, and online, they are emailing a link, never got it after trying twice.

The Herald app for Iphone and Ipad used today, 7-1-17. I could not use this app to get the e-Edition. I could only find the latter from the Internet website. I considered cancelling my subscription until online tech support provided the Internet access. This app for Herald does not work.

New App Update is Terrible. App constantly crashes. Content takes forever o load. I wish they would have kept the old UI. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

No search function. And videos will not play on iPad. Not a good enewspaper. I’d like to read more on a specific topic but can find no way to do that.

Too many ads - no search. I do not like to pay for Advertisements. You can’t put your finger on the screen without hitting an Ad. And no search function - really? If there was an alternative for Miami-Dade news I would use it.

Pitiful. No wonder newspapers are dying. The Herald, even in its reduced state, still does some good work. But you would hardly know it from this hideous app. And good luck if you ever have a customer service issue, like not receiving the printed paper, or a billing question. Just pitiful

Terrible. This app does not open does not allow me to login and is useless. Worse customer service is almost as bad as the app itself. Awful is the only word to describe this experience.

Unreliable. Most of the time the issue is the previous days issue. Will not update. You have to sign out & try to get it on the internet or reboot your iPad. Very annoying.

New app. Don’t like it at all. I always read the paper on my IPad but I like the newspaper format, now I have the different news by categories & don’t have the option of passing the pages. Couldn’t find the comics, under which category are they now?

Zero Stars. If I could give zero stars, I would. I love local news, but this app makes it difficult to enjoy the Miami Herald. I am constantly forced to delete the app and reinstall it, so that I connect with my Apple subscription.

Don’t waste your time.. Barely works on an iPad. Nonexistent customer service. Rarely works offline and crashes my iPad frequently. I have complained numerous times to no avail. All the same stories are available for free elsewhere.

Worst news app out there. You would think that, as a major newspaper, the Herald could make their app more functional. Each time they try to improve it it just gets worse or stays the same. They need to hire an experienced news website company to fix the many issues.

Good newspaper, unusable app. I love the Miami Herald, but the app is atrocious. I literally have not been able to read a single article in the last week. I want to support the newspaper, particularly because it is one of the few remaining independent papers, but this is ridiculous. Get a new vendor, guys; don’t let the APP be your downfall.

New app is worthless. Since this new app appeared, I can no longer enjoy my Herald digital subscription. Pages freeze up constantly. After being a faithful reader of the Herald for over 50 years I will miss it, as I’m about to cancel due to the frustration of using this app. The former app worked just fine. Why was it changed?

Doesn’t work. I’m a subscriber. This app never can pull any of my feeds. I get alerts about breaking news but then can’t read any stories when I click on them.

Worthless. I deleted the app 4 times same issue. When I click on an article I get a blank page. This problem only on iPad not on iPhone.

The worst newspaper app. Use Safari. That a horrible UI experience! Freezes, crashes, and finding what you want is not easy or intuitive. Needs a major overhaul.

The app broke. The app was recently re formatted and updated. Now I can’t read the Miami Heralc because I can’t open the app. I have restarted my phone. It starts to open then closes. Did anyone test if?

Frustrating at best!. As a long time subscriber both print and edition, I have never had an easy time with the online access. I truly believe in and want to support journalism, but The Herald is making me rethink how I can gain knowledge locally. UGH!! Beyond archaic!

You ruined the app!. It was pretty bad before, but now it’s just another news site, since I don’t have my daily newspaper. I guess it’s time to do away with the Herald since the news are available in social media for free.

Useless (and I’m a subscriber). This app is useless. Articles frequently fail to load and I’m presented only with the most click-bait-y titles. I’m a subscriber so it’s not like I’m trying to get the good stuff for free—they just don’t serve anything good on the app

Doesn’t want you to read articles. Everytime I try to read an article the app jumps back to the home page. Ridiculous!!!

Articles never, ever load. Herald does a good job of sending me news alerts but the actual article in the link has not worked in months. Much like print journalism in general, the Herald’s app is a failure.

Bad app shrivels Miami paper’s rep. The Herald app was bad; now, it’s awful. If it opens you’ll find the design aesthetic of an old coupon book, everything midsized and scattered. Sorties repeat over and over, and navigation is odd. Custome support won’t help either, unless canned responses are your thing.

Poor app. Using this app is painful!! Content disappears in favor of a picture or video. Every 3 weeks you get a message to sign in which puts in a endless sign in loop until you uninstall the app then reinstall it. High school guys could develop a better app!

The Herald is Dead. The app fiasco is a sad but fitting end of my lifelong relationship with The Miami Herald. I get times change but like others have said, The Herald now feels like a social media feed. That doesn’t even work. I’m glad Edwin Pope isn’t around to see this.

This is the best they can do?. I went digital three years ago because the Herald could not figure out how to deliver a paper version with any consistency. The current iteration of the digital platform continues. They can’t seem to deliver the product with any consistency. I could list the flaws, but lack the time.

clunkiest news app on the net. Id give it a zero but i hate to see the dedicated herald writers penalized. Cant log in to e-edition. stuck in a loop. many stories posted are old and often repeated. This is a prime example of why the herald is doomed, not for content but for incompetent business decisions and obsolete technology that doesnt work. It is fraud to sell this

Horrible App. There’s no way to log in. The guides don’t reflect what’s actually on the app. If I can’t restore purchases or login from my email, then what’s the point of having this app?
