KORG iWAVESTATION App Description & Overview

What is korg iwavestation app? Creating sounds with time-varying timbre, on your mobile device.
KORG iWAVESTATION - A wave sequence synthesizer for iOS.

The WAVESTATION synthesizer went on sale in 1990. This instrument featured an advanced vector synthesis system which created new sounds by combining and connecting multiple waveforms; it provided a mix/morphing function that let you use a joystick to change the balance of four oscillators, and a distinctive wave sequence function that allowed you to place waveforms in a desired sequence to create sequence patterns. To this day, it continues to be considered a legendary and still-unique instrument.

Now in 2016, the WAVESTATION has been reborn as "KORG iWAVESTATION," an app for iPad/iPhone. In addition to completely reproducing the programs, it also features a renewed design that lets everyone experience the stupendous sound-shaping potential of the WAVESTATION. It features touch-based operation that's distinctive of iOS, in conjunction with a new graphic interface that allows you to visualize and edit the time-varying timbral changes that are distinctive of the WAVESTATION.

[ Features ]

- A faithful reproduction of the original WAVESTATION sound: In addition to providing the sounds from all PCM memories of the WAVESTATION, the new iWAVESTATION also reproduces in software every detail of the parameters, based on an analysis of the original hardware circuit diagram.

- A new wave sequence view that can be graphically controlled: The iWAVESTATION, we advance another step with a graphical user interface that takes advantage of the touch operations that are a characteristic of iOS. Even more than ever, we've updated the screen design with an emphasis on creating sequences.

- 1,500 sounds, more than 700 waveforms, 55 effects, and a powerful random sequence engine: This new instrument includes a stupendous number of presets and waveforms, covering all models of the series. iWAVESTATION also provides a new random sequence function which will give you different perspectives to inspire new sounds.

- Produce music together with KORG Gadget integration: iWAVESTATION can be used in conjunction with the "KORG Gadget" music production DAW app that has won numerous awards around the world. If both apps are installed, it can be used as the "Milpitas" gadget inside the KORG Gadget app.

Excellent app but needs kinks worked out. As an owner of a Wavestation EX, I can say this app, like the Wavestation 'V' (LC) is true to the original sonically. I played through my amp & speaker system, along with the EX and couldn't detect any real differences in sound quality. Editing and programming is a breeze compared to the hardware versions. Unlike the iM1, I was immediately able to access the in-app store and download the EXB sound sets without a problem. There are some midi issues that need to be addressed; hopefully those will be fixed in a future update. I know, though, that I don't need to lug around a bunch of rack gear to get those pads and sequences I need and love. My iPad has become a huge sound module.

Needs an update…. This app has the potential to be very very good but it’s very outdated, what I mean by this is that it’s not full screen and other things take the screen more than the keys, korg module has this better look and feel but lacks the classic sounds. Also it doesn’t connect with GarageBand to record songs and use GarageBands key layout.

Crackles on my phone.. I have this app for my iPads, and it works fine. A little awkward, but it’s good to go. On my phone? The output crackles and pops. Nothing I’ve tried will fix it. Don’t get it for your phone if that’s your plan.

Super deep Korg synth; great on iPhone!. Totally agree with the review written by "Classic Arcade Maniac" - iWavestation is a great iOS synth, in general, but the fact that it works so well on iPhone makes it particularly valuable. Korg's iM1 app is excellent - it's a huge library of sounds that is super accessible even to people with little knowledge of synths and sound design, but it is iPad only (except for the Gadget add-on). Fortunately, iWavestation can cover a lot of the same sounds with its massive library of patches. Integrates nicely into the ever expanding Korg Gadget universe, as well. Korg synths aren't dirt cheap, but they're well worth the price.

NO AUv3 SUPPORT. Come on Korg this is ridiculous!!!! It’s been how many years now? I deleted Gadget because this. Gadget was born on iOS yet you give the flexibility to desktop only. I never bought the desktop version because of your shady business dealings on iOS. I spent over $200 on your iOS products. To access gadgets on desktop, to put in your personal daw, is $200. Over it.

Bugs appearing on new iOS versions. This app is great, the development has been well established and this is still the best iteration of the Wavestation currently on the market. But as time goes on, and as Korg continues to avoid AUV3 implementation, it seems that compatibility problems are becoming more and more an issue. Outside of buggy OMNI/MIDI channel issues, one has cropped up that has made the app mostly unusable - many of the waveforms do not output any sound. Reinstalling does not work, restoring data packs does not work. Most of the stock patches and sounds do still work, but the vast majority of “CARD” waveforms do not make any sound. Now the app is only half functional. Hoping Korg can figure out what’s wrong with these files so that full functionality can be restored.

Magical sounding and Unique. Which is what I’ve come to expect with every separate purchase of a Korg product ...and as far as versatility,...if I only use the presets on gadget ,i-wavestation, And Module I will never run out of fresh new instruments needed for great parts to any song. ...so I am personally 100% satisfied. Genius work Korg.

Impressive. This is a great-sounding app, full of amazing presets, and a heckuva lot of customization potential. My one complaint is about the GUI, and it is an easy one to fix - PLEASE Korg, add the ability to search through the presets, and perhaps even tag them for categorization. You did it in the iM1 app; can you please do the same for IWAVESTATION??

Sounds like the original but not functional. Love the sound of this thing, can't wait for them to fix the midi issue so you can assign a midi channel! I've been waiting since November still no update. Can't assign a midi channel!

Underrated synth. I’m really confused as to why this has such a low score, not only is this a 1-1 port in terms of sonic quality compared to the VST but the devs also crafted a gorgeous, totally custom UI for iOS to help edit patches and navigate modulation options. It’s also worth mentioning that unlike the lauded Odyssey, the Wavestation synth is an original Korg product whose design has always been digital, thus you are getting essentially the same product people payed lotsa $$ for in the 90’s. No it’s not the same as programming the subtractive synth, but it’s meant to be a unique way of combining/layering preset synth samples over time. Complaints that the WS presets are dated is understandable but since you can edit each sample/layer’s level, pitch, asdr, lfo mod, built in fx and more, I don’t see what’s got people convinced that this is a Seinfeld music machine only. Take some time to read the manual and expand yr mind past Moog clones.

Very close to Original EX. Sounds very close to the original. The updated GUI makes editing way easier than the original and VST. Hopefully the VST version will get this interface eventually.

Musician. Phenomenal app, however, this initial release does not include the ability to set the global midi channel which is a must have for anyone using multiple apps controlled by midi. Hopeful this is just an oversight that can be corrected soon.

A bit confusing, but seems really capable. I am actually well versed in synthesis and sound design, but this app is like a mind bending riddle to me. It is SO DIFFERENT from the typical analog, analog/digital hybrid, or digital FM based synths I am used to working with. The loops, the mixing, filtering, envelopes and effects chains concept seems so simple when you consider that these are all factors of a normal synth workflow, but with the different loop combinations and vector morphing considered, there are probably a billion different sounds you could program this to make, and not even be halfway to the bottom of the river of potential. I know this is going to take me a while to master, but I also know it will be worth it. Thanks Korg for putting this on sale! $15 was a pretty good deal for such an incredibly deep sound synthesis application.

Please make this AU3 compatible. This would so rock as an audio unit! Thanks

Wavestation in an iPhone. As an original Wavestation owner, it is pretty amazing to have one in my phone with all the cards and an improved interface. Would love to be able to create sounds here and then send them to the hardware version and legacy version. I hope Korg continues to invest in this.

A+. As a professional musician, iWAVESTATION provides a wealth of sounds to compose and perform with. The sounds are comparable to some of the top desktop VST's. Korg has A+ sounds, instruments and apps. -AprilRox

Could be bananas!!!. I love the new wave sequence that breathes fresh air into this classic synth! My only complaint is the lack of robust midi control. I would love to assign CCs to so many parameters instead of the handful that are currently available.

Just got it. Sounds lovely rich sounds that korg sound never disappoint me

AUv3 update please. As a Prosumer and Mobile Content Creator I believe that all Korg apps would benefit from the inclusion of AUV3. On the customer side it would allow us to be far more creative on the fly and credit Korg. On the Korg side of this lack of functionality, the Dev team could create new revenue streams from aging apps by way of charging more for this inclusion. (New customers only) Korg would also have far more creative’s buy IAP because it would become more versatile. I also believe that you doing so would still increase Korg hardware sales because we all grow. Just a idea from a a supporter of the Korg brand. I know you guys do actually read feedback and any update on this would be game changing for Mobile creative types. *Side note* Most of the competitors have released the AUV3 function, please don’t allow such a legendary brand fall to the bottom of the Mobile field. Thanks

Excellent Instrument. Watching a really good demo of the modern hardware version and playing around with yhe app at the same time. It just sounds great. All the features in the convenience of my iPhone or iPad.

No midi channel!!!!. There's no selectable global midi channel for the iWAVESTATION so if you're like me and spent a hundred bucks for a plug korg plug key to use it in a setup with other synths(like a module as it was advertised) it will be useless to you. How in this day and age do you leave out a selectable midi channel on a synth? It's a shame because it sounds great and the interface Is good minus a few quirks and bugs it's very pretty. In app purchase is awesome, sound great(I actually have the real cards)...but no midi channel is bad form from Korg, who is my fav synth company. I consider the iWAVESTATION and plugkey wasted money spent until they sort out the midi. Bummed!

Awesome, but.... This app is super deep and sounds really good, but I have noticed when it’s receiving midi clock, it will sometimes slowly drift out of time from the host tempo if you sustain a note long enough. I’m running 1.0.7, which states midi clock works properly. I know it’s not a routing error, because I haven’t experienced this with any other app using the exact same routing. Despite that, I think this is a great app. I really love the randomize function for kickstarting patch building.

A Worthy Classic Made Even Better. The Wavestation has always been a complex, beautiful beast. Adam Holzman (of the Miles Davis group, et al) was one of my electronic music students at Occidental College back in the 1970s and it was he who introduced me to the Wavestation a few years after he graduated. At the time digital synthesis was all the rage, modualrs were dying out and even analog keyboard synthesizers were showing weak in the marketplace. Then along came the Wavestation. Adam was such a brilliant keyboardist, composer and synth-geek that I had to take his recommendation seriously. I was not disappointed. I found that the Wavestation was deep enough that even the nerdiest, modular synthwonks (such as myself) could love it. It sounded rich enough that it made several movie soundtracks better and it was playable enough to have been dragged onto countless stages. While it was most often found in studios, as a live performance instrument it gave us enough sythowhacky horsepower to do what would have required a mini-van full of synthesizers and other gizmos to produce only a few years before it’s blessed advent. The Wavestation was never a deeply interactive synthesizer, however. It was a set-it-and-forget-it, preset machine. Interacting live with its deeper sound design features in a performance situation was simply out of the question. The iWAVESTATION preserves ALL of the Wavestation’s features -including the great sound, excellent effects actually expands on the original’s playability, using the keyboard, mod and pitch wheels and joystick- by adding a Kaos Pad. You get al this while at the same time reducing the physical footprint of a Wavestation to something a bit larger than the average cell phone. Simply amazing. Furthermore, the interface is even better than any hardware version of Korg’s original WS (and there were several). The iPad interface allows a far bigger, more accessible screen as a means to get at the sound design tools and all the other synth-goodness inherent in the original Wavestation. The addition of the Kaos Pad interface and the inclusion of so many additional samples and presets and tuning files, etc. all add up to make this even better than the original. There are a couple of downsides to the iWAVESTATION. One is the inherent complexity of the synthesis engine; but that is also one of the Wavestation’s many advantages. Secondly, as a keyboard instrument ...well, just use a MIDI keyboard or controller. The on-screen keyboard, like all other iPad virtual synthesizers, is nearly useless. Its okay for use during sound-design and not much more. I DO wish that Korg would take advantage of the iPad screen as a performance surface and add a keypad interface - something like what you see on the AniMoog and the TeraSynth and Thor and so many others. But set this puppy up right with a MIDI keyboard and a good sound system, flip over to the Kaos Pad/Joystick screen and I swear you can actually FLY with this thing. The iWAVESTATION is so good that I sold my Wavestation EX so that I could buy a big, fat, new iPad Pro 12.9 incher to go beyond where the EX could take me.

Having been a past wavestation owner years ago. This app is AWESOME really it rocks more sounds and better than owning the real thing tearing presets apart you can get so many different sounds

Midi update. It was kinda useless for me until they recently added midi channel selection instead of Omni only. Glad you addressed an important issue

Deep 90's nostalgia synth.. If you remember 1993 with any sort of fondness, you'll like this synth. I'm not even going to call it an app. It's an instrument. It's complex, and a bit confusing at first, but what you can get out of it is spectacular. It's also expensive. I doubt anybody would buy a $30 app just for fun, but just in case you're thinking about it, I would recommend thinking twice. It's not really a musical toy. Those looking for instant gratification will be disappointed, most likely. I'll admit, I haven't even used midi on it yet. I've only used touch controls and recorded it in Gadget. iWAVESTATION and Gadget are an incredible pairing. I also have the ARP Oddesei. Using all 3 together is out of control fun. Over the past 5 years, I've become something of a Korg fanboy. Apps like this one are the reason why. Buying this kind of quality sound in hardware form would cost you $300+. I can carry it in my pocket for $30. That's the bottom line.

Ehh. How long has the iPhone X, XS, & Max been out and this app still doesn’t take advantage of the larger screen size? Imagine how much more useful the keyboard could be if the space was utilized.

Crashes when saving user presets. Great app but wow…what a bummer it is to have the app crash when saving after you’ve spent so much time crafting a preset….what an inspiration killer Korg…please fix this asap

Please add AUV3 support. I do really adore this app but in 2024 not having AUV3 support leaves it in a bit of a purgatory for apps like Logic Pro. With the recent Korg Gadget updates bringing the gadgets to AUV3, I’m hoping this is a sign Korg will make their older synth apps that also have gadgets into AUV3 apps as well. Please and thank you!

Great app needs au3 support. So I’m very glad that Korg has kept up so many apps for so long, but I feel they are kind of behind with the importatnt stuff. By that I am am mainly talking about au3 support. Inter app audio is just not good enough, it crashes, states do not save, poor cpu handling…. Really at this point inter app audio is an afterthought, I never use inter app audio at this point. I bought this app in 2024 even though I know there is no au3 support, but I’m hoping that korg sees that there are users that are willing to buy more with au3 in mind. I have most of the korg apps but there are 2 more I have not purchased for the same reason. It’s a real shame, this app is great, no other significant complaints. I would use this a lot if it supported au3. I’ll be crossing my fingers.

Needs the search capabilities of iM1. This is a very interesting synth, has more expandability than iProphet but similar results. The thing I wish the most is that preset were easily searchable, like the preset in iM1. That would make searching for the best sound easy.

How Do I Even Record?. It has a lot of good pads, but how am I supposed to make music with them if I can’t record or layer them? Did I just seriously waste 30 dollars for this?

Why do I have silent patches?. Love the sounds. Not much to complain about except several blank patches with no sound. Any ideas? Like card four.... Orch Hit!! Voxy synth. House bass. Why are these silent?

Nice but Cmon Korg... What's the deal with all these great apps and none of them except Module Pro and the Electribe can have AUv3 ? It's like they only giving us á fully functional demo that can't be used unless you're only using Gadget or going live.. this app is still continuing to collect digital dust. Shame.

Best iOS synth app out there. This app is easily worth $1,000. I have an Arturia 4 octave midi controller running this and it really effectively uses the after touch. I have on top of a Roland Fantom 8 and it matches the sound complexity and depth of the Fantom & it’s just an iPad app. They have killer drum sounds. It would be great if they linked it to the iELECTRIBE. I have practically every iOS synth app out there & this is the best for a live musician.

We need Auv3 bad!!!. First of all this app is wonderful!!! But this is 2024. Inter app audio plugins is in the past and crashes constantly. Please do us all a favor with all your apps and make them Auv3 compatible . It’s ashamed to have apps this good and people are not able to create with these wonderful sounds because you missed the mark because it was overlooked or a mistake . Music is evolving and we need great apps like this to evolve with us. Just because the Wavestation was made in the 90s does not mean this app has to stay in the past with it😂…. Just kidding( but I’m not really ) Please fix this, it’s too good to mess this up!

Sounds Amazing And Fun.... Sounds fun? Yeah. This is really a very complex app. The sounds are stunning. Just amazing stuff. But I've tried just putting things together to create my own blend of sounds and beats, etc. but I feel like I'm getting nowhere. I downloaded and attempted to read through the PDF manual but unfortunately the only time I have to do that is after work and it puts me right to sleep. The next day I don't remember what I read and have to start from the beginning. Not a complaint with Korg, just an explanation. So, when I say it sounds fun that's because that's all I have to go on. As other reviewer's have pointed out, there's a bit of a learning curve. Maybe one of these online education sites will do a class on how to use it. That would help a lot. Once you purchase this app it then becomes available to you in Korg Gadget and the Gadget version is actually easier to use. You can't do any building in Gadget. You simply open the presets and play. You can do that in the app as well but you'll want to create once you get in there. The layout is very intriguing. It works amazing in Gadget. If you don't have Gadget I highly recommend that as well. Much less learning curve and just amazing sounds.

KORG Please Add AUV3 Support!!! 🙏🏻. The original Wavestation is my favorite synth of all time. Unfortunately, the lack of AUV3 support ruins this version on iOS. I will gladly change my rating to 5 stars and recommend it to others if KORG adds AUV3 support in the future! It would easily increase the sales of this app because more people would be able to use it.

No AUv3 leaves KORG in the dust..... I wish I could use this synth with any of my other favorite music apps... AUv3 please KORG!

Almost held out for iM1. After buying a PlugKey, I figured I might as well buy this synth, rather than wait it out for an iPhone port of iM1. All I can say, is that I haven't put it down since. The PlugKey finally came today and this is definitely one of my favorite experiences with a synth! As others have stated, the filters are still lacking. They're okay for low-passing, but the resonant filter has a pretty weak character. The things that would make this synth complete would be sample import and a better filter. Other than that, KORG really nailed it with this port!

AUv3 Pleeze! 😫. Sorry but I don’t use Gadget and never will. It just doesn’t work for me. But your stand-alone synths are awesome and need to be AUv3! Needs to be AUv3!

Need Global midi control and inter-app support. Need to have a global midi function and more support to use with other apps that are not just for Korg.

Wave station. I was fine until it stopped working. No sound even though midi works and you can see the waves in action but no sound. Every other app I have works flawlessly except this one. I am going to take it off and reinstall or else I want my money back if it still does not work. Removing the app and reinstalling solved the problem. It is now working perfectly. Some issues with the interface when creating user patches. It works but a little odd at times.

Great App!. I'm glad Korg finally brought the Wavestation to ios. The sound is superb. My only gripe with the app is it's export feature. It doesn't export to Korg Legacy .fxb format. I own both and find it easier to edit sounds in iWavestation. Please Korg implement this feature in an update. 5 stars when this happens.

Updated to the latest version: can’t restore my purchase.. I’m getting the following error message - “Restoration was successful but not found the card bundle info.” I checked before I updated and had the additional sound cards. Please fix the bug. Thanks. **update** My restore started working about 24 hours later.

Pristine Recreation. Korg’s iWavestation is one of the best synths on iOS. First: To fully appreciate this synth, you need to buy-in to the concept that this is a recreation of a classic synth from 25 years ago. Sure, some of the patches sound dated and a few of the percussion patches are cartoonish. But, that is what it sounded like! Get past that and there is much here to love: incredible rolling digital textures, animated swirls, thick chords, and wirey leads. The quality is stunning, because Korg replicated the original synth engine itself. Now, when you listen to the entire library of patches you will notice many of the patches are similar. That’s okay, read the manual and make your own! It’s more complex than a standard analog synth, but if you can tackle, say, a modular synth, then you will be fine with this. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but this is a top-notch product.

Good while it lasted ?. Love all the korg synth app products , was enjoying this one as well till it stopped sending any audio out , I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it to no avail. Tried to look up any remedies online from Korg but nothing was there to help .

Incredible synth…. That needs to be AUv3.. I’ve used hardware Wavestations for decades. My go to synth for pads and soundscapes. Korg did an amazing job with this app. You can even import patch banks. The ONLY thing lacking is AUv3 support. I would buy it again at full price if it was AUv3.

Add Tap Tempo, Midi Control FC ADSR, Better Piano. Hi this is a nice app if you just use the factory performances. It is easier to program than my SR and my Ex....but only a little easier... Please fix the performance save bug that writes random characters in the slot after the one I saved my performance in...on my iPad. Please add a tap tempo button and default MIDI support for filter cutoff, res?, attack, release and effects.

I feel ripped off. App feels incomplete and the interface counterintuitive Please allow an option to upscale the keyboard Make tutorial videos of the manual and how to make basic beats also is there an option for Inter App Audio so I can link up with my favorite apps? If my experience changes I'll update my review Overall this app has potential

Awesome app. Cool sounds good drum kits for that miami vice .. or phil collins sound .. hope they add an ability to only receive midi on a specific channel like the manual says its supposed to!

Classic and superb. A classic favourite synth of mine after owning the real one this ones fantastic and very portable being on the ipad. Get it, you wont be disappointed.

Good sounding emulation. Maybe I'm biased (I own an AD) but for me the Wavestation was one of the great synths of its time. This is a fine emulation- all the classic presets are there. The editor seems fairly fluid- the wavestation is a complicated beast and the interface design uses the Ipad effectively to navigate between different layers. For example, I was able to figure out editing wavesequences fairly easily. The filter adds a resonance button (not on the original) though when I modulate it, it sounds a bit grainy. Korg's Wavestation emulator for PC is a better bet if you want good filters- though given filters were never a focus on the original that's not such a big deal. For better or worse, the Wavestation was one of those synths where you could dial up a preset, put your finger on a key at random, sit back and enjoy. You can do some deep synth programming on this though- just not in a conventional analog synth kind of way. While already rich enough on its own, it sounds awesome when layered with an analog or FM synth.

Brilliant!. I have an original WS/AD rack which I love, but now as it ages Im scared to turn it on. Not to worry, I now have this great app. Ive done side by side comparisons, and I would say the app sounds a little better, as in it seems to have better hi freq response. This would be normal considering the A>D conversion is now better than 25 years ago. But where this app shines is its ability to edit, far better than the small screen. Great work.

Great app.. Lots of interesting possibilities with this. The limited functions when used in gadget are a bit of a pain though. Hopefully that will be sorted in an update.

Awesome interface. The interface is way better than the Legacy Collection version. It sounds nineties-cheesy, I admit, but you can coax some amazing sounds out of it if you're patient. Also, nineties-cheesy is coming back. Korg is absolutely nailing these apps and I hope they keep releasing more.

iOS synths evolving. So many great iSynths now. This one is approaching next level.

Best Yet. WOW!!! Guaranteed not to disappoint. Every time I open this amazing music making wonderful, fantastic, spectacular app, I find another thing I didn't notice before that makes it even greater! It has a gadget in the Korg Gadget app, which raises it to even another level of AMAZINGNESS. WOW!!!

AUv3… Please!. Im happy that such great sounding apps exist for iOS from a reputable company like Korg. But Imo, it’s disrespectful to their customers to still charge a premium for these instruments while apparently refusing to update them to AUv3. They should at least be more upfront about this in the product description at this point.

Nice .very nice.🏮🎁🎊🎉🎹🎼🥁. This is best of all music app in App Store lots of great features.

Doesn't work on ios13. This app does not seam to work on ios 13, even thoe it worked great on ios12. If I play more than 2 notes at a time, the audio stutters like crazy and after a few mins of use, the intire app locks up.

The best money I’ve spent in a long time. This is incredible. I thought this would be a portable version of the legacy version, but it’s so much more. Excellent interface and great sound!

Definitely Excellent App But….. This is a great app Since IOS 15 I can no longer load any .sys and .fxb files Please update this super app !!!!! Thank you in advance

Worth every penny. I don’t know why I’ve been overlooking this synth.Korg did good.I really enjoy using the Kaoss pad and all the other parameters!

Better than no M1 for iPhone users. As an owner of 2 fully loaded Korg M1 keyboards, I've been very annoyed in the decision to make the iM1 "iPad only"when my iPhone 6s is way more powerful than some iPads it does run on. This app proves they certainly could have made iM1 iPhone compatible. On a positive note, although many more useful M1 sounds exist than for Wavestation, at least a handful of my beloved M1 patches do exist for Wavestation. The technology between the two synths are very similar. With luck, I can reproduce some of the other M1 patches. As for the wave sounds, I'm not too excited about them. Better sound effects exist in virtual analog synths. If your a fan of them, by all means buy this app. Overall, can't go too wrong here. Tons of sounds, enough useful to warrant the price of the app, similar M1 effects processor that is awesome and made those patches so great. Some nice orchestral string patches especially. But Korg....PLEASE RELEASE iM1 for "IPHONE" USERS!!! I want that power in my pocket, not a tablet.

TEMPO adjustment still not fixed. This hasn’t been resolved. I’m guessing it would take a developer half an hour to fix this? As it is, there is no easy way to set the tempo to a simple whole number, it is in increments of 100th’s (second decimal place), and adjusting this not at all easy. This makes it very difficult to sync all the sequenced motion patches within the app to external devices. For one, do you need a tempo to the second decimal place? Who sets a song to 90.54 bpm? For another, why can’t we type the tempo in, so that we don’t have to hassle with the impossible way they’ve designed the number selector? Other than that, this app is fantastic.

Classic sound again!!!. If you're looking for the classic Wavestation sound, this is it! Very nice UI, and complete ROM collection as well. The only issue I have with the app so far is how to import Sysex files. There needs to be more options besides "Documents" folder. Korg, please fix this!!! Great app otherwise! Thank you for porting it to iOS!!!

It is great, but for filter.. I have always been a huge Wavestation for years. If you want a Wavestation, this is what you should get, and shell out the $$ for the extra cards. The main reason why you should get this version, is that Korg finally designed a good UI for editing WaveSequences. My biggest complaint with the desktop plug-ins is they tried to keep the UI theme the same as the hardware. It might have invoked a sense of nostalgia but it was a terrible design choice. In some ways, it made programming the Wavestation harder than the hardware version. However, Korg seemed to have learned their lesson, and built a fresh new UI that really honors and compliments programming the synth. Now, if I am so happy why did I only give it four stars? There is one area I am disappointed in the synth. It still only has the one really weak low pass filter. Those who know the Wavestation know that the filter is the weakest part of the synth. I mean it is notoriously weak even compared to other synths from the era. I was hoping that Korg would add high-pass and band pass filters to introduce some new sonic possibilities, or at least offer a beefier low pass one. For all the power in the synth it really is a shame that it never had filters that matched the rest of the synth. It ends up being like the perfect giant sundae but missing a cherry on top. But aside from the filter issue this is a solid buy, so go for it.

The real deal and FUN as it gets!. Couldn't believe it when I saw KORG had put this on the iPad apps available list. I've had a long history with this instrument in all its forms and it has alway's has been inspiring in creating complex unique interesting sounds! This is just pure fun to play for hours! Thank you again, KORG! Nice Holiday gift!!

Rewarding, but.... This is the third and the final revision of my review after trying to find a workaround for the problem below ...Loses two stars for the lack of an edit assist similar to what Bias and Retronyms offer so that when you lift your finger off control it doesn't jump. Here it's really needed on the wave select bars... This also plagues the other similarly rewarding but at times equally frustrating Arp app Kong makes... To be fair it's still a phenomenal music making app and the addition of an edit assist which would come in particularly handy on smaller (non 12 inch) iPads would make it legendary... A premium price iOS synth app should not have this problem.

Fantastic.... For a few weeks now, I've been really REALLY ANNOYED with Korg for putting out their beautiful ARP ODYSSEi app, and programming it in such a way as to make it uninstallable on an iPad 4 or lower. The ARP Odyssey was my first, and still my all-time favorite synthesizer. However, I think I'll give them at least a partial reprieve, because they just put out the app for my second all-time favorite synthesizer, the iWavestation. I just bought, downloaded, and installed it on my iPad 4 Retina, and it works just beautifully, both as a standalone app, and within Gadget. They have also made available, as an in-app purchase, an extra bank of waves, wavesequences, and performances. BRAVO, Korg.

Amazing. Thank you for this Korg. Simply amazing.

Better than the real thing. I never actually owned a Korg Wavestation, but I sold them and demo'd them everyday back in the 90's as a Keyboard salesman at Jim's Music in So.Cal. I know the original like the back of my hand. It comes down to the DA converter of the original vs the one in my iPad Pro. The Korg keyboards of that era always sounded nasal to me, not only the Wavestation, but the M1, T3, O1W, etc. as well. I still have a O3Wr in my synth rack and its the same nasal quality to the sounds. This app to me, running on my iPad Pro .. through an Apogee Duet .. into my old 90's Mackie CR1604 .. and out through my Yamaha and 90's Tannoy monitors has a cleaner more transparent quality to it than my hardware Korg, and the Wavestations I demo'd everyday on our stores sound system which was the same as I still use here at home. What a treat to have my own Wavestation now that only cost me twenty bucks on sale. Good job Korg.

Awesome. I remember buying the Wavestation SR rack mount back in 93. It was my most used synth, and after I had to sell my studio to move, it was the only piece I kept in storage. Still have it. Man, listening to the sounds again sure brings back memories. Now it's easier to edit stuff...the rackmount only had a single LCD screen with two lines, so I never really got into editing that much...just basic stuff. This app makes exploration really possible. Like another user said, get the expansion pack...it has the ethnic card that I used a lot for Koto and Sitar sounds in some commercial work. Cool!

This is love at first sound❣️. Historically Korg apps and I frequently didn't see things the same way. (iMS-20 & Korg Module Le glowing exceptions) but after finally finding the first YouTube video...I had to actually force myself to keep watching/listening...because I wanted so bad to load my Apple app and buy it❣️ After 'almost' 2 minutes...I had to go buy it. And for the next 18-20 minutes I did nothing more than play, and play with, the keyboards and nothing else. The default "Ski Jam" and all default settings. I don't think I've ever done that before. Then I discover that you can still play the keys at the 'extreme' ends of the smaller keyboard right in between the controls to screen's edges❣️To wild! But well done! IMPPRESSIVE! 👌 The sound is absolutely incredible. I quiver at the thought of what things I'll be able to do and that which I can't yet imagine. 😎 The journey begins❣️ 🌬🕊

WIST Support. I don't see it?

There Should Be A Hold Function For The Wave Sequences!. Otherwise this is amazing! 5 stars if KORG implements a Hold Function for the left hand Wave Sequence keys. There should be an OBVIOUS button for it too. This would be A MUCH FUNNER EXPERIENCE with a way to keep a sequence going without having to ALWAYS hold a key down. Not having an EASY hold function is an UNBELIEVABLE oversight!

Amazing. This synth is incredible for creating powerful cinematic music. The wavestation and the arp odyssey are two of the greatest synths ever created. I use both of them together along with kamata in my music.

One of Korg's Best. Good improvements in playability/tweak-ability in Gadget. Korg is awesome

iWAVESTATION. Just like I remembered and loved! This is so cool! 🐝 I had been hoping for and now it's, the cards too! Thanks Korg!!

It's everything the Wavestation can do, but for up to a 17th of the price of the original!. Want that '90s sound? Go ahead and get an iM1! Want a '90s synthesizer? Then this is for you! I am a fan of wavetable synthesis, and I liked Korg Gadget's Kiev so much that I decided to buy this. OMG, this sounds gorgeous! I did not expect Korg to take advantage of the touch screen features in order to use a breathtaking and somewhat user-friendly interface for a synthesizer that was originally a pain to program. It not only has all the features that made the original versatile, but it's got a few more things such as a resonant filter and even layering wavesequences! Don;t forget to buy the 7 additional sound cards for $4.99

Awesome App!. KORG continues to push the limits on what is possible with our mobile devices. They have faithfully recreated the beautiful sound of the Wavestation and have given us a more intuitive way to sculpt the sound. I also love that this is a universal app so I can use it on my iPhone. They also made it so that my in-app purchases transfer to Gadget!

Pluses and minuses, but mostly good. Pluses: • This came out with Gadget support on day one. • This iOS version has a much more visual GUI compared to the desktop AU/VST version. It's vastly better to program than the original hardware. • Randomize feature is excellent and should be in EVERY synth EVERYWHERE. • Compatible with Legacy Collection and original hardware. • Classic sounds (anyone complaining about the "dated" sounds should have known better and NOT bought the synth if they didn't want sounds from the late 80s from a classic digital synth). Minuses: • No IAA transport controls. This is a problem with ALL of Korg's apps. • Fiddly controls. This is a problem with ALL of Korg's apps, especially Gadget. • No data exchange via email. • Data exchange requires being tethered to a computer with iTunes. • Randomize feature does not use waveforms from the expansion cards. • Duplicate patches in cards. I realize this might be because the real hardware cards had duplicates (and shame on them), but when you BUY IAPs of extra cards and find they include duplicates, it tells me that Korg should've made them free instead of repeating the mistake (of selling duplicates on cards) in today's era of IAP sales.

Once again...KORG!. They are all over the place with quality, useful output of synths and tools...Hardware & Software/Apps. Way to go Korg, nobody even comes close!
