Terribly buggy. I can't see any books in the store/catalog because it's blank and then it crashes. Fix this issue immediately because these kind of bugs are absurd and shouldn't have allowed this app to have been published in the first place.

Not acceptable. Don't buy anything from this app. I bought a book but what it downloaded was a completely another book on another topic. The app had problems with iphone 6. To be fair all my other chess apps had the same issue but they charged less for a book. Consider another alternative.

Good app before update, now malfunctions. This was a very good app before the latest updata end of June. Now the app crashes, and messages to the team have not received any response. Hope they fix the bugs soon, otherwise this app will be worthless. Update: I deleted the app, and redownloaded all my books. So far,seems to be good. Hope it stays that way.

App Keeps crashing. I love this app and Have been using it since it came out. The app keeps crashing….I have never had this problem... please fix this problem or unfortunately I will no longer be purchasing ebooks through it.

Desperate need. we don't have to shift pieces on a board while frustrated with book annotation variations. this book fulfills a desperate need.

Problems coordinating pc and iPad. This app has most of what you need to read chessbooks without a board and pieces. Built in engine. For a short time this app had the first built in engine, but now Everyman and others have included engines. Selection of books is good. I mostly use Forward Chess on my iPad. I have had difficulty finding all the books I bought on iPad when I open Forward Chess on the computer.

Excellent App. I love this app! Absolutely LOVE IT! I have purchased many good books on it! The format and layout is much better than many competing apps with similar ideas. I would like to see many more titles added to their list!

Great Program!. Really have enjoyed this program. I can do my chess studies anywhere with a great selection of books to choose from. No need to break out the board. Easy to test my own variations and "what ifs" vs the built in chess computer. Do they have every book? No. But not every publisher has electronic formats (I don't count kindle) and some only realease them in alternate programs. So I prefer to see the glass half full with great books to choose from among a half dozen publishers. It's by far the best program I've used of the various programs on my iPad and iPhone.

Awesome ! Deserves 10 stars !!. Many good updates since some of the older comments. This is my favorite for reading chess books. Interactive board with books,now we can add highlights to pages,also notes, and bookmarks.

Wonderful. I like all the features and find the books better than their hard copy equivalents. 5 stars if there were some public authoring capabilities for, say, a personal opening repertoire or endgame exercises.

The best chess book study app. Forward Chess has a nice, size adjustable board that follows the book moves, a built in Che's game to help analyze any position in the book, ability to flip board. It is the best of all chess book apps I have used - and I have many.

Excellent resource. This app makes studying chess convenient and simple while on the go. You can also explore your own lines whenever you want! My only complaint is that my favorite chess books are not yet part of this app…

The Best of the Chess Book Readers. This is a great chess book reader. The only thing that makes me a bit cautious about buying a large number of books is wondering how I will access them in the event of this company going out of business. It would also be nice if there was cross platform syncing of my library.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!!!!!. I have Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual on my iPhone and iPad. The whole book!! This app works great!!! Instead of just reading notation in a chess book you see it active on the board under your complete control!! This app makes learning and understanding so much easier for me. I would love to see Mongoose Press's upcoming book "Best Play" by Alexsander Shashin made available for this app as well as "Chess "Blueprints", and Book 1 and 2 of Wojo's Weapons!! Also Russell Enterprises Alexsander Alekhine's, " My Best Games" one of the greatest chess books ever written!! I love this app!! Thank you so much!! But even if they never did anything else, I have the Endgame Manual

Best chess app. Probably the best chess app I have used in years. It allows you to go over books digitally if you do not have the GM vision many of us are lacking. Going through variations is a lot easier. So far I have not had any issues with any books. Strongly recommend as the book options are always growing.

Not working for iPhone 6. I hate to write thus but this is getting bad. I upgrade to iphone 6 but this little app refused to load on the big screen. Ok i read on the small screen. But .... all my books were wrong. Pages missing, suddenly spelling errors everywhere. In my chess endgame book it even showed some weird Russian with a picture of the moon. I think the developer messed up the app with their another product. Please fix it i wiil upgrade my stars.

The best chess book app you could imagine!. This has it all: the book is digital, the games are there and a board pops up to play them over as your read the lessons and commentary. You can play the variations and then it goes right back to the game. And, best of all, you can hit a button and the powerful Stockfish chess engine starts running at the bottom of the page as you play through the games and variations! Maybe the earlier reviewers had some previous version. These aren't scanned books, they have had every move of every game entered digitally so you can play them over as you read. And the lost of available chess books grows every week. Yes, the books are not cheap, but you don't have to buy a board and set and play it as you read. So now you can study chess anywhere, anytime. Highly recommended!

Great app but no search function?. Great app, but it was tedious having to scroll through the whole list of books and not being able to search by title, author, or genre. That's the only reason I didn't give five stars. Thanks though, great resource.

Great app. Bigger screen needed

Best way to read a chess book. This app has changed the game for me. Now I can read a book and look at the moves and variations without having to set up a board. It doesn’t replace over the board analysis, but in a world where chess is played mostly online this app is amazingly useful. You WILL spend more money on books!

Review. The app itself is brilliant. Nice development. I got nothing to complain. But the problem is the expensive books. They should be free because those books were simply scanned. The so-called publisher brought some physical copies, scanned them and sold them as if they made it. I made a contact to New In Chess and waiting for a reply about how their books got sold without consent.

The only chess book app that I use. I have been a member since it’s inception. The books they publish are by far the best books of that genre. The ability to play through the games with the book is a huge advantage. A few other apps have tried to replicate but they come up short. A chess app that I have carried through many devices.

The Best Chess Book Reading App. This app is by far the best chess book reading app on the market . I have purchased many chess books over the last few years on this app and have been very pleased with how it works. I like the fact that every so often they print one of the great older books like Art of Attack in Chess by Vukovic as this is a great book to study from and improve your game. I highly recommend this app for anyone who loves the game of chess and enjoys reading chess books.

Awesome and effective. If you’re like me, you’re a casual but serious chess player. Great book collection, awesome interface and user friendly. Forward Chess has created a great app for learning and studying chess. You can choose board and text size, style, and so on. Books are reasonably priced, and you can always return to the page you left off reading. With just one hand, I can scroll through the game and text while my other hand holds a glass of a choice beverage.

The best chess App. The best book reader out there period. The ability to run on an engine and play through what ever variation you want separates this reader from everything else. Awesome.

No#1 for studying chess books. This app is undoubtedly the best chess book reading app. Price of the books are lesser than the real book. Furthermore, it has engine with it. Which helps to evaluate positions easily. Highly recommended to anyone.

Has potential, needs more work. Apps like this have the potential to make reading a chess book way more convenient, because you can always see the current position. This is a good start but it’s just a beginning, it needs more work. As far as bugs are concerned, it does not remember correctly the location on the page when restarting the app. On a chapter with ~ 10 games, it’s not easy to find the place to continue. Also, it loses the current position when double-tapping to go full screen (or return from full screen). In terms of features, the main thing I miss is some kind of visual indication that there’s text to read after the current move. Imagine I watch the board and then tap the Next button to advance through the game. Unless I check the notation after every move (very distracting) I would miss the move comment. True, there’s a dialog for variations, but that’s not the same thing. Some commented moves don’t have variation. A change in color, some dot lighting up somewhere would mean a lot in terms of convenience.

Books are enjoyable but the app still needs improvement. I’ve used this this for a week now and the ability to follow variations while reading is excellent. However the app doesn’t open to my last read page or give me a bookmark so I can get back to where I was. So I’ll have to try and find where I was every time I get back in and that’s frustrating.

Much Improved. Many of my initial complaints about how the text is presented have been addressed, and I read books through the app often now. Thanks!

Has potential but fix the bugs!. When opening the app I expect to continue from where i stopped from last session but instead I am taken back to the start of the chapter! This is so annoying. Please fix asap!

Useful but a few bad bugs. Where’s aerosol?. It’s a great way to read a chess book and several publishers now have similar apps. The reading experience of the text is not great here compared to a Kindle as formatting is lost, text is bunched up, you can’t highlight text or bookmark your place. Apparently you can add notes. But the worst aspect of this app is it is just buggy when you come and go from the app and, sometimes, even just as you are scrolling through the text. It tends to leap around for no apparent reason and you loose your place in the text. Then relocating your position is just a hassle. The pop-up chessboard would be a lot more intuitive with a Hide button rather than a double tap of the text for only the cognoscenti to remove the board. The Book Store is an odd shambles with books appearing either grouped under publishers or as a giant, unordered list. Apparently they imagine readers wander into bookstores thinking, “Yes I was definitely in the mood for something by Mongoose Press, but my mood has changed and I’m fairly sure something by an an Independent will go better with my red wine.” Rather odd. Mostly you might expect ordering by topics or the skill level of the reader, Beginners’ Tactics, etc.

Not the whole. I would have given more than 3 stars, but I downloaded a book I paid for : Dvortesky's "Endgame Manual" and found that not all the book was downloaded. Ch1 Part 1 is missing. If I pay more than $20 for a whole book I expect to receive the whole book that not with parts of book missing! I think most people would agree. This has turned me off buying any more of the books they offer. If I pay for a whole book I expect to receive the whole book.

Awesome!. Best e-chess reader yet!

Really Bog-Standard. I mean, even Notepad offers more readable text styling than this does. It’s just a basic, no-frills Chess reader. For the most part, it achieves that much effectively. But in doing that it pretty much ignores every design principle of making books readable. Text is strung across the screen from one edge to the other. It has nothing to help make such blocks of text readable, much less more enjoyable. It’s ironic; the app developer’s code editor does more to make text readable than this thin does. That’s why three stars, it does allow you to play over the games, limited to a window about half the size of the screen. But chess book readers should be so much more that just that. It’s effective, but with just the minimum of functionality.

Great way to read a chess book!. Update... latest version of the app is getting buggy. When you’re scrolling down the chapter it suddenly pops to the top and you lose your place. Please fix to get back to 5 stars! Very easy to navigate and play through the game quickly. I hope they will make more books for this app soon! Excellent! (Works well so far in ios7 but not verified in ios8 yet)

Read before buying. This app is not for me and here is why: 1- I don't like seeing the BUY button everywhere on my screen luring me into clicking it even by mistake. It gives the impression of someone who doesn't care about chess as much as they care about MONEY. 2- You cannot upload your own books. You HAVE TO BUY FROM THEM, and their prices are quite inflated. It's quite obvious that the app was designed for the sole purpose of buying books EXCLUSIVELY from their affiliated stores. 3- BEWARE: when you're paying $19.99 for the book you're NOT purchasing the books itself but you're renting it for an annual subscription LOL! Next year you'll have to pay another $20 for the same book! Classic. 4- lacks tons of features and settings but it's quite irrelevant at this stage I must admit. 5- I'm quite suspicious with the current rating and I think it's orchestrated by the app developer to attract buyers. 6- Removed.
