Your best friend. El mejor acompañante para mi aprendizaje por este fascinante idioma. Me gusta mucho que tenga la opción de escuchar la pronunciación de las palabras (y su escritura fonológica). Además, la palabra del día (World of the Day) me ayuda mucho a incrementar mi vocabulario a diario.

Horrible. Soy un usuario avanzado pero me está siendo IMPOSIBLE ACCEDER al diccionario con suscripción pagada. Más vale que sólo va a ser para 1 mes.

Too much spam. It has an advertising each step you use the app. Annoying experience.

Words shouldn’t cost money. I wanted this just to investigate words in alphabetical order and see their meanings, but that’s apparently way out of my league. While I do understand that experts have been investigating and keep doing it and they deserve to get paid, I’m sure Oxford has enough money. Knowledge and words should be public and not cost any money. Have a good day.

Unilateral exchange by you under the terms of the purchase agreement (dated May 6, 2020) for the Oxf. Hello, On May 6, 2020, I purchased (see attached file) the Oxford Dictionary of English from the Apple Appstore. In these five years, I was, in fact, very happy with the performance of said dictionary, until last month (April 2025), when (oh my God, surprise!) you UNILITERALLY started charging for everything that I, along with all your users around the world, freely used (audio pronunciations, unlimited dictionary use, offline and quick mode). And, to top it all off, I now have to watch and endure your countless ads. Absurd! An abomination! An inconsistency! Illogical! Irrational! I feel SCAMMED, DECEIVED, ROBBED, ETC., when this change from what was an excellent service to the public becomes a way to earn a few crumbs of money, which an institution as renowned as Oxford certainly doesn't need. Therefore, as a customer who paid for your product, I demand a coherent explanation for this change in the terms of the contract containing the purchase and payment I made. Scrolling. I’ve never written a review before, but I’ve been driven to out of frustration, and also because I notice that the developers do a good job of providing individual feedback/troubleshooting advice on here. I invested in a premium subscription and in one sense the app has been everything I expected. I work in translation between various different languages, and the content — as expected — is excellent, the user interface not bad. But when I try to use the dictionaries offline — essential for me, because I work in a library and turn off my internet to limit distractions (indeed, I decided to get premium solely based on the advertiser ability for offline use) — scrolling becomes impossible. Perhaps only one percent of the time does my window respond to whatever gesture I make the trackpad, usually down. It is infuriating to say the very least. The app is of no use to me whatsoever if I can’t see the majority of the text for a definition or an entry. I write this on here hoping there’s some sort of solution you can propose, because at the moment all I feel is stupid for having paid a year’s subscription in advance. Thanks.

Está bien para principiantes.. Este diccionario, que me sirvió bien cuando vine a vivir en España hace cinco años, ya me parece casi inútil porque cada vez que busco una palabra desconocida que encuentro leyendo el periódico o una novela, no la encuentro. Vocabulario muy restringido.

Too expensive trial too short. I downloaded after searching for “dictionary “ on my iPhone, didn’t read App Store description. Then discovered you can’t use the app without agreeing to pay after the three day trail. €45 a year!! You’ d have to be out of your mind to pay that. For 45€ I’d expect a lifetime license.

Disappointing from the best traditional dictionary. The free version of the app is very disappointing. The definitions are limited, as are the number of words included, while the advertising is intrusive and overwhelmingly frequent.

Really good but very restrictive. I love that it has the origin of words. A shame it‘s so restrictive if you don‘t pay but it‘s the best.

Swindled?. Firstly, let me be clear about something. This is probably the best online dictionary application one can find. So why the one star review I hear you ask? Back in the mists of time, this application was offered not as a subscription model, but for a one-off lifetime license, so I coughed-up my cash and was delighted with my purchase. Now, several years down the line several devices later, and a change of Apple ID from mac.com icloud.com thrown in for good measure, I have found that my subscription no longer works. I have - MANY times - followed the advice on restoring purchases in the FAQs, but after hitting 'Restore' the screen has consistently returned a 'Restoring purchases ...' spinning wheel of death after which, apart from more spinning, nothing ever happened. I tried to reach out to Mobi Systems unsuccessfully and, until today, had given up trying to regain access to the app. But having learned of the re-vamp, I decided to try once more to restore that which is rightfully mine. Sadly the re-vamped process to restore accounts no longer results in a spinning wheel of death, it simply and flatly denies there is anything to restore. In my desperation, I noticed that Mobi Systems are quite responsive to application reviews therefore I am writing this in the hope that my unhappy predicament might be acknowledged and order might be restored to the Universe.

El diccionario ideal. Hace años que lo uso pues hace años que compre un diccionario Oxford en papel. Muy completo. Y recomendado por mis profesores.

Don't buy it. As simple as that.. For a while, it doesn’t scroll properly. You can't go up and down without lag. It is frustrating. I am thinking about uninstalling it. I sent a message to the developer and they are not concerned at all about this problem. Contact with them was worthless

Ya pagué la anterior versión.. Como siempre, ya compré la App anterior del diccionario, que no fue barata, y ya no funciona con iOS actualizado. Así que ahora parece que ese si eso ha volado. A suscribirse no? Pues un cliente menos. En fin. La fiebre de las suscripciones.

Si no pagas poco tienes. Es un diseño genial, todo se ve de manera muy fácil y clara. ¿Lo malo? El primer día pude buscar varias palabras, el segundo ya no me dejaba escuchar la pronunciación si no me subscribia. El tercero ya me dice que solo puedo buscar una palabra por día 😔 La he desinstalado, ya que la quería para la fonética y no me sirve para nada buscar una palabra al día 😭

La opción de pago es carísimo. Si quieres acceder a contenido que en otras aplicaciones es gratis como poder oír la pronunciación de una palabra tienes que pagar, y no es barato…

DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!. Full of ads, everything is paid! I wanted to download a spanish dictionary to be able to look up words offline, but downloading dictionaries can only be done through a MONTHY MEMBERSHIP! If I have wifi why would I need an app to look up a word? DO NOT DOWNLOAD, not recommended at all.

Si no hacéis el diccionario accesible, ¿la cultura es accesible sólo para la élite? Un problema con el inglés: ¿Hay una institución oficial? ¿Hay “el” diccionario? No. Hay muchas instituciones, cada una con su diccionario. Oxford es bueno. ¿No puedo pagar de una vez para siempre? ¿No podéis poner un banner publicitario? ¿No podéis contar con una subvención del Estado o de una fundación? Ya he recordado por qué la desinstalé. Una pena… España. El diccionario oficial. El de la Real Academia Española. No hay multiplicidad de insituciones. Aplicación gratuita, gracias al apoyo de la Fundación Obra Social La Caixa. Accesible para todos. ¿Quiero el diccionario en papel? Pago. Pago una vez, no una mensualidad, jajaja. Inglaterra: varias instituciones, y varios diccionarios. Nada oficial. Oxford: paga una mensualidad para acceder al contenido. ¿Qué país cuida más su lengua y sus hablantes? Podríais aprender del modelo español. Lo peor es que no está indicado qué es lo que ofrece la versión “gratuita”. Gracias a las reseñas, que éstas sí lo dicen.

Bueno pero no disponible gratis. Es muy buen diccionario, pero si solo tienes la versión gratuita, sólo puedes consultar una palabra al día. Como algo negativo, cada vez que abres la App te sale un anuncio.

Vergonzoso. Pagué más de 20€ hace un tiempo cuando al adquirirla contratabas el uso pleno del diccionario y ahora me dice que me suscriba para usar funciones por las que ya pagué.

Expensive. I remember when I used to buy the actual Oxford Dictionaries, they would cost about 30€ and lasted forever. I do not understand why a subscription to a digital one costs 20+ € per YEAR! Definitely I am not going to pay it. However, I would seriously consider doing so in case it was a one-payment app to unlock all the features (same thing that you get on the classic physical hardcover). Personally I think this payment options make many people switch to less quality, free options; and the infamous just “one word a day” search allowed makes this even worse. Hope one day this changes. Guess I will have to go back to my late hardcovers.

Lousy dictionary. I cannot believe that this app does not even let you read a definition without watching an ad first, not to mention tht you have to pay if you esnt to listen to the pronunciation. And at some point, it does not let you read ANY definition without subscribing, which means paying for this service. I just switched to the Merry Webster one and it is amazing. Want a great dictionary? Do not download this one!

charging for basic functionality in a dictionary is insane. The UI is pretty until the adds load, and until you try to actually use the app and you get paywalled every time you try to use a tool other than the most basic definition tool. If you want a reliable dictionary for definitions, download anything else, and if you want more than that, also download anything else.

You have to pay for most of it. You have to pay if you want to use it offline and there are ads everywhere, so it ends up not being practical at all

Excellent dictionary but inappropriate adds. The dictionary it’s excellent, but adds are inappropriate and distract your attention when you’re studying English (for example, adds about Instagram apps for know if your partner is cheating you). I understand that adds are needed in free apps, but you could include adds about other topics and in English.

When I want to hear a word in its original British pronunciation, that voice the app gives me is so bad, bad quality and hard to listen to correctly. Please, fix it. Paid for non-existent premium features. I paid for the premium version, which should in theory enable voice recordings of the words, but no sound plays. I believe I'm not the only one to have this issue. Also, the word of the day stated in the push notification often doesn't correspond to the actual word of the day in-app. It feels like a scam to pay for the premium version when it only adds very few extra features, and on top of that some of those few features don't even work properly.

Bueno. Es muy buen diccionario y cumple su función pero tiene el premium ya saben con el total acceso y eso es quizá un punto en contra. Igual no puedes escuchar la pronunciación si no tienes premium.

Most useful tool so far. This has been the most useful dictionary for me in my gathering of information, I’m an English teacher myself and I thank a lot to Oxford for bringing me a diploma that has given me a lot.

Why do we have to pay retroactively for the same app. I’ve been using this excellent dictionary, can’t say otherwise, but that doesn’t excuse that they’re limiting the use of an app for which I’ve already paid for. There’s was no yearly subscription, no 5 word limit search (that’s outrageous, frankly) nor pop ups add every search before. It’s a scandal you’re pulling here and without shame.

Very useful app. The app helps me to improve my vocabulary. Nonetheless, its a little expensive the pro version

Too many ads. Too many advertisements but excellent app. There are some options, as the audio to learn a word’s pronunciation, that doesn’t work without payment. I dislike this, because I won’t pay, instead I’ll use another source.

Good info, horrible app. Takes too long to open, after doing so I am greeted by two pop ups before I can even write down a word I do not understand. This is too impractical, and it takes me less time to google it up, therefore rendering the app useless.
