Paid for all access and had no access. I really like this app but deleted it because even though i paid for all access i was completely limited. I couldnt play most of the games and cooking was not open. Sadly i paid for nothing.

The Stuttering New York Times or Just Use The Web. I‘ve been using the NYT app (as a subscriber) for more than a year now and was first pleasantly surprised by its nice typography, clean layout and great offline capabilities. Some of their ads were always somewhat irritating, especially for their own podcasts - something they refuse to fix. Recently tho they added autoplaying video and all falls apart. You can turn off autoplaying video content, fine. Video ads however still play and they are a nightmare. They drain battery and cause the app to lock up for seconds. With this in mind their website provides a much better experience if you turn on ad-block. Sad.

Love the times. I enjoy reading the times but the app often freezes and at the same time, the "For You" tab is constantly refreshing the page. As a subscriber i don’t want to see an app freeze. Please fix that.

Great newspaper. I love the NYT, and it’s app is also great. The adds sometimes skip the text while I’m reading though, and I would love to have a dark mode which would make the background black and the text almost white, so I can read at night without waking up my wife.

I don’t know.... ...why so many user have a problem using the app. I am totally satisfied with my basic account. Thank you for your good work and all the best for 2021!

Qualität Content but technical Implementation can be improved. I receive my (European) Morning Briefing at about 7 A.M. by Email which is fine. But if want to read it in the App, I am not able to find it. Instead there all these links about Games and other stuff that I am just not interested in which clutter the user interface.

Mostly great App. I use this App all the time and I am very happy with it. It helps me to quickly see world news and the NYT is clearly one of the best newspapers! The App is great except for one small detail: It’s Geofencing capability. What good is an App that will turn off features for the user at the push of a button? Their button! When posting comments on the NYT website, I have tested the ability of the App to send a bogus error message that a post cannot be made, all the while when other systems (web browsers) work fine. This does not appear to be a bug, ratter a selectable feature on the NYT side. Sad if true! This sneaky way of designing new technology is quite troubling because it would suggest a potential future none of us want to see. (1984)

Lacks Important Features. The app works well. However, it is lacking night mode, which makes it difficult to use at night. Also, there is no way to move the navigation bar to the top of the screen. This would make it easier to use with one hand.

Wonderful newspaper, nasty subscription model. One of the most important newspapers in the world and the management is not willing to take care of fair customer relations. (1) the monthly fee more than doubled without further notice from 9€ to 22€ in September 2018, (2) emails with complaint about that change are not taken care of within more than a month, (3) Subscriptions start via app and can be finished only by phone call or email via website. But first one has to find the proper information. A practice I would expect from tabloids and not from first class publishers. Please make it possible to start and end subscriptions via app! Until then I am not willing to continue my subscription.

Spam. Obwohl ich alle Benachrichtigungen in der App deaktiviert habe, spammt es mich immer noch mit vielen Benachrichtigungen

Leider ständig „offline“. Die App an sich ist Okay, in letzter Zeit bekomme ich beim Login aber permanent die Fehlermeldung „Your device is offline“. Es nicht stimmt und ich die bezahlte Ausgabe nicht lesen kann. Erst nach einer Neuinstallation hat die App wieder funktioniert. Der NYT Chat Service hat schnell geholfen.

Good app but breaking news are broken. Like the app, but i don't freaking care who won the Australian open so why put it on "breaking" news. It is so overused and I already disabled everything else. If the queen dies, thats breaking news or if North Korea drops an A-Bomb somewhere. That is what breaking news defines. Don't spam stuff that literally only a small percentage of readers care about to all readers.

Gute App - guter Inhalt (English below). Mag die App sehr, inhaltlich top; nichts für Verschwörungstheorien- und Trump-Fans. Toll um zu sehen wie Europa und D von außen wahrgenommen wird. Wünsche mir noch ein dunkles Design, zum Lesen morgens und abends im Bett! I really like the App and its content; not suitable for conspiracy theories- and Trump-Fans. I like to see how Europe and Germany are perceived from the outside. I wish there was a dark design that makes it more convenient to read in bed in the mornings and evenings!

Abo direkt bei NYT für €4/Monat. Die App ist wirklich gut - und ich kann das mit der Werbung nicht nachvollziehen. Alles ist im Rahmen, die Artikel sind sehr gut recherchiert und sehr umfangreich. Keine leichte Kost wie bei Spiegel und Co. Aktuell meine Lieblingsquelle wenn es um Nachrichten aus den USA geht. Interessant wie Amerikaner und in Europa in der Welt sehen. Was gibt noch Hoffnung. Habe das Abo direkt bei der NYT gekauft und nicht im App Store. Zahlengedächtnis Monat €4, anstelle des viel höheren Preises im App Store. Für alle die informiert bleiben wollen ein muss!

Let me finish reading the article, or at least find it again!. Dear NYT, please, let me finish my reading. I read your articles, actually. I take my time and I appreciate your long-form, well written reporting. But sometimes, I put the “paper” away and when I return the article I was reading is gone for good – there is no recently read section in your app. Search won’t help, because you have updated the headline and renamed the article completely 5 times at this point - to improve your click through rate. But I don’t want to search. I want to find my article where I left it and finish it.

Interessante Artikel und eine Feststellung…. …Feststellung: Wenn man die Leserkommentare nach Beliebtheit bzw. Am besten bewertet sortiert dann merkt man ganz schnell das die Mehrheit der US Bevölkerung genauso denkt wie die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung in Deutschland: Bei Themen wie Migration und LGBT steht man nicht mehrheitlich hinter den etablierten Parteien und den Meinungen von Journalisten. 🎊

Good but lacking a dark mode.. The app itself is well made, easy to navigate but could use some minor improvements. For example making fonts selectable would be great, perhaps making the settings more generally accessible than just under “for you” would be nice. But my biggest problem is reading in the dark. i’d love support for a dark mode, because in the dark all of that white is almost aggressive on the eyes.

Wants to see my network. The app just asked me to see the devices on my local network. I declined because why would a newspaper app want to see that? Seems sketchy. At least give the user some information why you need access, how is it improving my user experience?

Please don’t play music when solving a puzzle 🙉. You know when I play your puzzles, like Sudoku? When I’m at the doctor’s waiting for my appointment. But even though the phone is muted , it BLASTS its happy “you solved it” melody for the entire waiting room to hear. I mean, I’m proud that I solved it, but the rest of the room doesn’t need to know that. And I can’t move on to the medium and hard puzzles because … well, I scared the room already. Please respect the phone’s mute settings. Thank you.

Top marks for making app worse. I guess Im not woke enough to understand the mind bending changes you make. First you unilaterally remove swiping through articles which is how every article is read in any professional program from the New Yorker to well - other newspapers. It's like someone sat down and asked how could they make the reader experience really difficult. Of course the prize goes for those insane ads that are so hefty they literally freeze your scrolling. Honestly, you guys are not very good at this. Sorry, but its extremely poorly designed.

Plenty of room for improvement. This is rather a news app. I was looking for an app providing the actual newspaper in digital format. Sadly, that does not seem to exist. The app is not bad. However it is not actually possible to customize according to preferences. While there is a section with « preferences » that does not seem to have any effect on what is displayed in the app. That is a pity because the app has loads of content. Mostly really good quality, but not all equally relevant to everybody. It would be really important to organize the cotent individually and intuitively. The way it is now, I got a lot of information of which only a fraction is relevant to me. There is plenty of potential for improvement here!

Ressentiments im Herzen der Wokebibel. Nach den Anschlägen von 2001 hatte ich die New York Times erstmalig abonniert, nach den Greueltaten der Hamas 2023, und vor allem der darauf folgenden Berichterstattung in der NYT, den Meinungsartikeln, den Kommentaren, habe ich sie nun wieder gekündigt. Jahrelang hatte ich die Verengung auf Themen, Ansichten, Autoren, der progressive Identity Politics ertragen, weil mir die hohe Qualität der Artikel, vor allem in meinen Bereichen, Wissenschaft und Medizin, Klima, Umwelt, Artenschutz, wichtiger waren. Aber nun kann ich die parteiischen, verzerrten, zT auf Falschinformationen beruhenden und von Unwissen über Aussenpolitik im Allgemeinen, und den mittleren Osten und den Holocaust im Besonderen bestimmten Artikel nicht mehr ertragen. Ich vermute mal, dass jeder deutsche Zeitungsleser mehr über die Entstehung Israels in der Schule gelernt hat, als die gesamte Redaktion, der New York Times so bieten kann… Der Antisemitismus auf den Seiten der New York Times bereitet mir fast körperliche Schmerzen, ich kann es nicht mehr ertragen, und wenn hier kein 180°-Wende einsetzt, war es das mit mir und der NYT…

Dark Mode please!!!!. A dark mode would make reading the news may more pleasurable! I would also like a better position for the „saved for later“ folder. Sometimes I forget that I have saved articles, because I just don’t come across that folder when browsing the app. Thanks!

Zu viel Werbung. Unangebracht für ein kostenpflichtiges Abo.

Probleme das Abo zu kündigen. Das journalistische Angebot der NYT ist gut. Wenn Sie versuchen, Ihr Bezahlabo zu kündigen wird es schwierig. Ich habe letztendlich Paypal untersagt, Zahlungen an die NYT zu tätigen.

Nur mit Internet nutzbar.. Abobedingungen recht flexibel, aber: Zum Artikelaufbau braucht man immer noch eine stabile Internetverbindung. 3G reicht da nicht. Und das, nachdem ich im Wlan die Ausgabe runtergeladen hab. Der gleiche Mist wie vor drei-vier Jahren. Wenn mich das zu sehr nervt, kann ich immerhin das Abo jetzt monatlich beenden.

Disapp. non-English speaker (subscriber). English is not my first language. I prefer to read the NYT in browser, because the app's translation function is disappointing, compared to using safari. If I do not understand a word within the context of an article, I do the right click-search and safari presents different meanings from Oxford dictionary and other sources. The app uses apples dictionary and shows only one and mostly unfitting translation.

Takes forever to load. And constant reloading makes it really hard to scroll through the headlines. It’s not my connection, by contrast the WaPo app is much better. Fix it, please, because the content is great, once one can read it. I have been messing with it now for about 10 minutes without being able to look for the articles I want to read, which prompted me to go to the apps store and write this complaint.

Great journalism but a cancelation is impossible. Scam.. I love their strong opinions and their views. And I’d love to support great journalism. Unfortunately, I hardly read it lately so I decided to cancel my basic digital subscription. Now I’m desperately trying to cancel my subscription (not through App Store but directly with NYT) but no chance. The chat is non responsive. The hotline is non responsive. I was trying to call with 3 different phones simultaneously. All of them were apparently 7th in line. How is this possible? It feels like scam. I’m furious and will ask my credit card provider to book my money back and deal with them. Why do they ruin their reputation with such poor behavior? Sad.

Too much Ads for a fully paid subscription. The App is fine, the content also. I really want to support good journalism. But the Ad load seems to have increased to a level where I cannot enjoy reading the articles anymore. It is not only the massive ad load, but also the loading time of the ads which causes the article to “jump” up and down. If you do not scale your ads back I have to consider canceling the subscription. Best

Leider nicht auf dem technischen Stand heutiger Ansprüche. Seit Monaten bin Abonnent der NYT App. Leider ist seit einigen Wochen ein Senden von Texten zu anderen Blattformen wie z. B. Twitter und Mail Accounts oder ein Update von Artikel nicht mehr möglich. Daher werde ich mein teures Abonnement kündigen. Das Geld kann ich dann für technisch offene Dienste verwenden.

Cumbersome. All other newspaper apps I use allow me to swipe horizontally to get to the next article. When the NYT quietly buried its “Today’s Paper” web app, I thought they would introduce the same browsing convenience here. Not so. We’re still stuck with the same tedious experience of having to return to the section page first before we can move on to a new article by tapping again. Disappointing, really.

Richtig gute news app. Die App ist richtig gut, übersichtlich strukturiert, man findet schnell was man sucht. Ärgerlich sind die YouTube Beschränkungen, aber das kann NYT nicht beeinflussen.

Great newspaper but app freezes way too often. Love the content. But the app is extremely slow to load and freezes pretty often. Sometimes I have to restart the app several times just to be able read an article, really annoying. Hope this will be fixed

Good content. Do u want the latest news? Want to inform ur self from an objective stand point? Nahhh than u are wrong here. I read the nyt to entertain myself. The content is exclusive and very well analyzed. So if u read a crazy headline somewhere else - wait a month and u get the hole report.

What about an ad-free subscription?. While I very much appreciate the high quality of the content, the increasing number of ads is becoming obnoxious (content loads slowly and sometimes gets rearranged when the ads finish loading). The digital subscription is very affordable, but couldn’t you just offer a more expensive, ad-free one as well?

Links to the NYTimes get opened in the browser. Could you please implement that the links to the NYTimes open in the app instead of the browser?

NYTimes App Not Working on Your iPhone or iPod Touch?. NYT Customer Service confirmed that version 1.01 is not working when the language on the iphone or ipod touch is set to something other than English (e.g., German). This issue will be fixed in the next release of the software. Meanwhile you may change your region format settings to make this application work.

Greatest News App out there. Great app, but the journalistic quality of the articles is of course the main reason to buy this. It doesn't get any better.

Annoying ads. For me the ads popping up at the bottom of the app are so annoying, that I will not use it annymore (you get it even as a registered paying subscriber).

Great newspaper, mediocre app. This is not a comment on the Times, but rather on the app. It suffers frequent crashes, painfully slow downloads, and a strange sorting of articles to be included in the iPhone site. It certainly is not worthy of the paper itself.

NYT is great but the ipad app is so very slow. The app takes ages to load on my ipad mini and gets stuck repeatedly as I scroll.

Great paper – bad App. The journalism is great, the app however is messed up. It runs my phone really hot and drains my battery %s by the seconds, unacceptable for an App that displays text and pictures.

Good content - awful app. It's frustrating that the app just keeps freezing on the iPhone. Sometimes you have to restart like 12 times. How should I enjoy my year long digital subscription if I can't access its content

Love the newspaper, hate the app. The NYT app is the only app I use that is incredibly unstable. It crashes so often that I often can’t read it on particular days. At all. I wish the developers would fix this.

Unable to cancel subscription from Germany. The app and the content is ok. I am still giving 5 stars since it is super difficult to cancel the subscription (currently impossible) from Germany. It is not possible through Email but only through phone. And the phone number is not reachable.

Funktioniert doch alles....!. Hey Leute, schaut mal in die Hilfe-Datei im Web, die von der NYT angeboten wird (erreichbar über einen Klick aus iTunes). Das Programm funktioniert nur dann, wenn die Region des iPhone auf USA eingestellt ist. Die Region wird in Einstellungen/Allgemein/Landeseinstellungen festgelegt. NYT verspricht, den Bug in der nächsten Version zu beseitigen, so dass man wieder auf Deutschland stellen kann. Die Umstellung auf USA bewirkt nichts Schlimmes am iPhone. Lediglich das Datum und Telefonnummern werden im US-Stil angezeigt. Beste Grüße, jblaustein

Videos not playing. Videos are black, nothing plays on mobile.

No Newspaper App. The solution with the sections is hell! Why is it so complicated? How come there is no possibility to select the individual sections directly via a menu? Why are games so much in focus?

Games not working. Spell bee is not loading sometimes and wordle is not integrated in the app

No Dark Mode. I cant understand why there is no dark mode for this app. Really annoying.

Unnecessary redesign. The redesign actually made the user experience worse. What used to just a swipe to the left, is now 3 clicks.

Don’t touch my clipboard!. Take your hands off. There is no reason why your app should be continuously querying my clipboard‘s content. Back off!

Alles prima Sache, nur die eine …. … Angelegenheit kann ich nicht verstehen: Wenn die App doch mal eine Push-Benachrichtigung mit einer beliebigen Schlagzeile sendet und man dann (okay, eigentlich erst nach ein Paar Stunden oder so, sogar nach 8-10 Stunden) drauf tippt, öffnet sich zwar brav die App und aktualisiert seine Inhalte. Nur leider wird man nicht direkt zu der Nachricht hingeleitet, die man doch eigentlich lesen wollte – so, wie sie in der Push gemeldet wurde. Wäre echt toll, wenn man an diesem Feature künftig verbessern würde, weil man sonst, meiner Meinung nach, etwas verwirrt wird. Selbst wenn die News schon nicht mehr ganz frisch ist, könnte sie doch noch interessant zu lesen sein. Zu den Artikeln selbst: Sie sind, wie die meisten Vorredner schon gesagt haben, sehr gut und verständlich geschrieben und für jemanden, der Durchschnitts-Englisch versteht auch gut lesbar. Weiter so!

Darkmode unavailable. It would be great to have a dark mode too. A black background and white letters. This is easier to look at.

Eine der besten Zeitungs-Apps. Klar, übersichtlich, intuitiv zu bedienen.

Overheating. The app is good – straightforward and easy to use. However, every time I open it to read an article my phone gets overheated very fast. Also, battery level decreases significantly. Be Aware!! Can only be cancelled via old fashioned phone calls!. I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with the NYT for the sole purpose to cancel my online!! sunscription! This call was from Bangkok to New York!! Very rude not to provide online cancellation options!

Constantly Crashing Lately. I’ve used the NYTimes app for years but lately it seems very unstable and has been constantly freezing and crashing.

Makes it impossible to cancel subscription. Either talking to a bot that can’t help you or having to call a number at inconvenient times...

One giant paywall. Cant see anything without paying

Dark mode missing. A simple dark mode would make it so much easier using the app in the evening

Autoplaying video/audio content. I opend the app, and (even though my phone was on silent mode) the app automatically started to play a video/audio file super loud... If I want to start a video, I will, well, start it? Autoplaying content really belongs to the worst customer interaction ever invented.

I am missing an read-aloud option. I like The New York Times, but I am missing a read-aloud function.

Great content, crashy app. Just doesn’t work well on iPad. I start reading and it completely crashes

Please add Dark mode. Nice app overall, but dark mode is really in order. Also, i found the old “for you” tab better than the new one, as the articles appeared to be more relevant for me back than.

Good app but can’t cancel subscription. It always makes me super angry/annoyed if the company makes it as hard as possible to cancel a paid subscription. If it would have been easy I may have not even canceled! Like this it feels like SCAM. Very sad as the journalism is awesome!

No invoice and cancellation only by call. NYT don’t provide invoices and cancellation is only possible by direct call to the customer service - not in the app, not on web! That’s not nowadays standard NYT!

disappointing. you’d think that you can simply get the news for free but if you want to read any article concerning the latest news and not just some article about horoscopes you have to subscribe and pay… i’d suggest getting your news literally ANYWHERE but here.

NY Times. When I was in NY a couple of weeks ago, I bought the NY Times. It's great to be able to read the articles while back home in Luxembourg. Lets me stay in touch with the USA. Fun to have a cup of coffee in bed and the latest news out of NY!
