Sunrise sunrise. One of my all time favorite things to do is watch the sunset. I live a 1/2 block from the beach so it equals a nice walk in the evenings. When it comes to sunrise, I’m just not a morning person. I enjoy this app because it helps me to know if it’s worth getting up for in the morning. The new design is really pretty. I love how it breaks every part of the sunrises and sunsets down. You can’t get better than this app. Highly recommend!

Useful Feature. Your app is awesome! I use it every day to check the sunset quality. I think you should make the blue hour when the sun is between 4 and 8° below the horizon, that way the blue hour will have a little more time. I also think you should add times for first light and nightfall, when the sun is 18° below the horizon, this will be useful for Astro photographers. Other than that, it's an amazing app!

Notifications don’t work. I downloaded this last week and enabled notifications for 15 minutes before sunrise and sunset. It had worked exactly 0 times. Such a bummer as that is the only thing I downloaded it for.

Great Sunset & Sunrise for Photos. I rely on this app for outstanding sunrise & sunset photos. Alpenglow is the first application I use to determine what days are best for my landscape photography. Great photos start with this easy to use sunrise and sunset planner!

Not always accurate but helpful. I use this app to see how the sunrise and sunset are forecasted. The app is not always correct. Some days it will say the sunrise or sunset will be great but turns out a bust. Other days it is the opposite. Each day is different. When the app is correct, the sunrises and sunsets photographed are awesome! It is little annoying to get up each to capture what is forecasted as a beautiful sunrise that turns out to be not so great and/or colorful. I would rate it 2.5 stars but I have to round up to 3 stars.

Update: Great App and Great Support. I tried to edit my 2 star review. I initially gave it two stars because I was not hearing back from AlpenGlow support. However, they were trying very hard and they found me via twitter and asked if I was the 2 star review and wanted to help resolve my issues. Within minutes we connected and got my issues resolved. So. Great App/Great support. They went above and beyond to find me when the messages from the apple store were not reaching me for whatever reason.

Nice app. The pro version is well worth it. As an avid amateur seascape photographer, I use it every day. I really like the built-in sun angle map that helps me choose the best locations depending on time of year. Developer is independent and very responsive to support requests. Forecasts may not be perfectly accurate all the time, but that is to be expected. It’s still a great tool to have in a photographer’s arsenal.

Better and better. This app just keeps getting better and better

Inconsistent UI. The “sunset quality” feature appears and disappears. I thought it was based on time of day, but it’s missing now, a half hour before sunset.

A full dud- don’t pay for this. I think this is the only app I’ve ever paid for. After having it for about a year now, I’m confident saying it is never accurate. This morning im up way before dawn based on a ‘good’ sunrise prediction, and all I’m seeing are gray skies.

Love this app!. I love what this app has to offer in the free version. A lot of thought went into it, and I appreciate the different features!

Decent app. Just what I was looking for, hopefully they don’t harvest my personal data against mu will like most free apps but who’s really to say what happens with our data? Selling personal data is big business for many tech companies.

It’s wrong more than it’s right…. Aplenglow simply isn’t at all accurate at predicting the necessary cloud formations for picturesque sunrises and sunsets. It very often predicts good or better conditions when there isn’t a cloud in the sky. The App is useful for exact sunrise/sunset times, but many weather apps include it as well. You’re much better off learning to do it yourself by scanning the Nation Weather Service forecast website & AccuWeather, plus learning through experience what typically happens in your area in terms of cloud formation and wind patterns. If you’re traveling to an unfamiliar area, check the NWS site and a few weather Apps to get a sense of the local cloud/overcast predictions in the AM & PM on location. Local TV station’s weather forecasts can give you insight into what typically happens at various times in any given area.

I needed a “where’s my cat” reminder. This attractive app enables me to set a teminder before sunset ( customizable) so when I forget that my cat insisted on an outdoor stop 20 minutes before sundown, it nags me politely that sunset is x minutes away. What with feral possums, raccoons, and cats in our city, not to mention my cat’s mobility challenge, I don’t allow him out during the dark. And searching Apple’s app store for cat care stuff was USELESS! So, thank you, Alpenglow

Absolutely wonderful app. I get excited for my sunset notifications every day and as a photographer it’s genius. And to be so sweet it’s very reasonably priced to upgrade to pro!

Fantastic For Photography. I love this app. It’s great for photography and the forecast predictions are pretty spot on! I use this app everyday to check for sunrise and sunset predictions as I have found Alpenglow is the most accurate!

Homescreen outlook widget broken. It's hard for me to give a fair star rating. Before iOS 16 it would have been 4-5 stars. Not an automatic 5, because I live in a place where the only sunsets are actually alpenglow and they happen in the east. The app doesn't really seem like it can handle that, so most of our sunset quality predictions are wildly inaccurate. But I was fine with that, and used the app mainly for times and not for quality predictions. After the iOS 16 though, the homescreen widget for the outlook has broken. It shows only colored boxes with grey lines where the text should be.

Nice but widgets are way off. This app is a good idea, but when one widget shows one set of times and another one has a different set of times, you have to wonder what’s really going on. It showed the next event for me was blue hour at 9:43 PM. That was at 5:30 AM, before sunrise and the time for that blue hour would be 3-4 hours after sunset, so I wouldn’t call it accurate

Love it!. Just started using this app in two different locations. It has been “ right on” every time! Got the most wonderful sunset last night due to following the app which said it would be very good and it was Fabulous!

Not very accurate for my area. Maybe it’s because I live on an island and the weather is less predictable short term, but I missed a glorious sunrise today that was rated as poor by the app. I should have been set up for it!! Would love the app otherwise.

Inaccurate forecasts and unresponsive developer. UPDATE: I’ve increased the review to three stars because the developer did send me a basic email explaining wedding preparations and asking me to send him the emails again. I have done so and I am waiting on a response. Will update review as appropriate. ORIGINAL: I even sent screenshots and photos trying to understand. No response. Deleting app.

Doesn’t help at all. Firt time I’ve ever one star reviewed an app. Thought this would be beneficial for recreational/hobbyist photography. Figured I’d at least have a general idea what days might be worth getting into position for a sunset around my home. I know forecasting sunrise/sunsets quality is tricky business and can’t be 100% accurate days out, but I have yet to have one good sunset correlate with a forecast. The forecast 3-5 days out will predict an 80%+ great sunset, a lot of times it will still be forecasting that a day or two before, then without fail it will downgrade the forecast to poor or fair within 12-36 hours of the actual sunrise/sunset. And what is worse is the best sunrises and sunsets we’ve had this winter were not hinted at by the app at all. It’s a useless product that does a terrible job of the one thing it’s supposed to do. Unsure why it has so many positive reviews.

This Photography Tool Couldn't be any Better. I originally used it for watching the sunset when nights turn into mornings and wanted to catch the sunrise with my friends. I've since become a photographer and always understood golden light. I open this app twice a day.

Features look great but my subscription won’t activate. I keep getting told to buy the Pro version again, despite having already subscribed…

All I could ask for!. This app is incredible. Seriously love it!

I wish this was better. It seems like the person/team behind this app put a lot of effort and research into their methodology, but unfortunately it just doesn’t work. None of it: 1) the app - I don’t get alerts for the threshold I set. When I tap the widget for the day’s forecast it takes me to a forecast from whenever it was the last time I opened the app. I would care less about the second point if the first worked properly - and I pay for this version. And 2) the forecasts themselves. The only ones consistently nailed are obvious rainy/overcast times. Too often there’s a spectacular event on a 20-30% predictor, and too often a dud on the higher ends. I know it’s still a bit of a crapshoot in predicting, but isn’t the whole point in having a methodology that is BETTER than a crapshoot? This ain’t it. At least for the midwest. Maybe this works better out West when there are fewer meteorological factors or something.

Waste of money, not a good predictor of beautiful sunsets. There are dozens of sunset apps. I bought this one because I thought it would tell you if the sunset was actually going to be nice or not. Testing it out every time it says it’s going to be a great sunset, it’s not. Conversely, on days it says poor or fair, turns out to be a great sunset. Whatever they’re using to predict if it’s gonna be a nice sunset is not working just tells you when the sun sets and golden hour but you can do that for free with a dozen other apps, not worth the money.

Looks interesting. Layout is nice but there's no way to reset the location on the map to where you are. If you move the pin, you have no way of quickly resetting your location.

Accurate!. This was exactly what I wanted, a no-nonsense sunrise/sunset forecast. The free version is totally usable, but plus and pro tiers are reasonable, and well worth it. Too many mornings I would roll out of bed and see the last glimmer of golden light in my bedroom, now I have an alert for when it'll be photo worthy! Awesome app!

So confusing and frustrating but better than nothing. It does different things all the time. I find it be very inaccurate perhaps I don’t know how to use it but I’ll look for the sunset information and even when it rarely says good…. it’s bad or vice a versa. I find it very in inaccurate but like I said in the description it does help and it is better than nothing but I’m not a fan.. perhaps you have to pay big money to get the good features I don’t know. I use the free version

Polish and Product Pride. Long time photographer, and when I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to check more data and detailed forecasts, this is great. Bought lifetime to support and also just because yay, no subscription! Price may be steep to some for lifetime, but hey, the days of one-time purchases are gone, so the developer even giving us an option is great. Subscription prices are definitely reasonable, too. One thing I’d ask for is (contradicting my own review) for a bit more data. I can hop into one of my many weather apps and see exactly why a sunrise/sunset is going to be good/bad, but sometimes, it’d be nice to get the breakdown of info in the app. Next, a page layout for locations. Obviously, conditions don’t vary much over the course of a couple miles, but as someone who regularly makes trips halfway across Texas (which is many hundreds of miles), conditions vary greatly, and it’d be great to just swipe between pages for each location. For example Houston, Austin, and Dallas… Really no complaints about the app, especially considering this is made by one person. Polish you rarely see nowadays. Much love and respect from a fellow nerd. 🙏 Lastly, I’d love a combo large widget, with times AND quality forecasts on it. We have a large times widget, but I’d love to see a large one that combines quality forecasts and times. Would be so nice, so useful, and undoubtedly beautifully designed. Please! :)

Nailed sunrise forecast!. Got a “great” sunrise alert from Alpenglow - and was skeptical, but went at 5am and the app nailed one of the best sunrises I have even seen. Absolutely nailed it! Can’t wait for next great alert! Also love the new multiple day forecast option!

Surprised me. I was skeptical, especially not knowing what drives the ratings. This morning the sunrise was forecasted for 74% (highest I’ve seen). Weather forecast called for mostly cloudy. Alpenglow was spot on, the sunrise was one of the best I’ve seen in a while. Well done.

Disappointing. In the two months since buying this app, no sunrise or sunset forecast has been even close to correct. I bought a lifetime subscription so I’m hoping the forecasts will improve over time. I live on Puget Sound, maybe it’s harder to predict the forecasts here?

Beautiful app and excellent information. I take time lapses of the sunset and this app helps me know when, where and if the sunset is going to be magical! Thank you for such a wonderful app.

First week. 2.5/5 stars until further notice!. Confused as to what metrics the app uses to determine poor, fair, good, and great sunrise/sunsets. It’s not totally clear. Also, my lockscreen widget says the sunset is going to be “great” tonight, but when I click on that and the app opens - it says the sunset is going to be “poor” .. Also what is the “threshold” meter under forecast notifications? How do I determine what % to set it at?

Not even a full 24 hour forecast. For the last few weeks I have only been able to view the current day’s sunset forecast. I guess I could view that mornings sunrise forecast but then I’d have to wake up before sunrise to look at an app to tell me if the sunrise will be good when I could just get up and look out the window. I gave two stars because it was a pretty decent app when you could check the next morning forecast the night before and make plans for potential sunrise photos.

Great app for photography. I’m a photographer and when I’m planning where I’m going to shoot this app is imperative. Being able to gauge sunrise and sunset quality before I decide on a location is critical if I only have a few days at a location. I couldn’t recommend this app more highly.

Really great.. I was going back and forth between this app and the SolarWatch one. And while they’re both good apps, this one gave you the golden hour for free. I also like the interface more personally. I ended up buying the lifetime pro just to support the good work.

Doesn’t work well. This app does not work as advertised. I purchased a life membership, I am now questioning my decision. The app does not change automatically when I travel to the new location, it claims it will but doesn't. What is worse, it misses good sunset alerts. Tonight we had a great sunset, there was no alert on the app. Think twice before investing in the app.

My first time using this app and it was wrong. It said that the sunrise was poor but it was actually ok got my picture and I liked it it wasn’t good good but it was good and I wanna depend on this app so I can get all the good sunsets and sunrises cause there my happy place so hopefully y’all can fix y’all app a little more so we’re it actually tells us what it actually is not just say poor and it’s not even poor I’m sorry I’m tryna explain this in the best way I can but I’m bad at explaining 😭

Widgets Not Working?. App used to work amazingly 5/5 but since the latest updates my widgets are now not working? This was the main reason for downloading this app, now the widgets don’t work so I don’t have access to the info on my Home Screen. Have tried everything to fix it but once it is fixed I will leave 5* again.

Great app!. I use this app daily and have come to depend on it for my morning adventures to the beach.

Live update frozen. Trying out free version to test live update feature. Apparently there is no way to turn timer off once it’s started. No access to support as support button not working. I like the potential but seems buggy… not sure about spending any money on this.

Apple Watch complication needs serious work. The complication has been buggy from its inception. The developer responded to one of my previous reviews by requesting more info—which I provided, and he never wrote back or even acknowledged my fairly detailed feedback.

Beautiful app, accuracy is so-so. I love that this app exists! It's a fantastic idea, and the app and widgets are beautifully designed. However, and this might be a result of me being in Auatralia, the predictions haven't really been very good, often predicting a "good" sunset on a cloudy day where you can't even see the sun. Perhaps it's better overseas, but I have my fingers crossed the data will improve for Australia soon 🤞😄 Regardless, great idea for an app and well-executed.

Predictions. They don’t actually tell you the ‘predictions’ of the sunrises or sunsets so that’s a bit disappointing.

9/10!. This app is very accurate, it shows me the times for different sunsets and really makes me remind myself to take pictures! Though it’s not 100% right it’s close enough for the timing.

Great for photography. I got this app when I started out in photography and it has worked amazingly. It tells you when the best time to shoot is, anywhere in the world. It’s amazing!!

Great for photoraphy. tells you simply and effectively what the lighting is like outside according to your location and even has accurate, timely notifications to keep you organised and motivated to get out and snap! would recommend ☺️

Useful tool to have when shooting outdoors. I generally find the predictions to be pretty good, which can certainly help with planning your shoots. However with that being said, I’ve still managed to capture some amazing shots when the overall light quality hasn’t exactly been ideal (and it wasn’t because the prediction was wrong, but simply the fact that sometimes you just get lucky 😉).

Feedback is not available now.. There was a feedback available in the past. So I can provide an on-site photos to prove the forecast was not right. Sounds like this option is purposely missing now.

worst app ever. i love the idea of this app, but the execution was not there. what about a cloudy overcast grey sky makes an 100% great sunset? the ratings of each sunset are just not even close to what they should be, who made this app? lovely idea, doesn’t work. shame.

Ok but take with a grain of salt. I use this app to gauge photo shooting times. I like sunrises and sunsets. I’ve gone out on a day that states 15% or less and had spectacular days…. And days it’s been 75% it’s been questionable…. I don’t know how they rate the quality for a global platform…. But you have to take it with a grain of salt…. I have the tip version which gives you more days out…. But again I’ve had low rating days come out spectacular…. Sunrises and sunsets are very hard to predict

Compass. The compass view is great. Now, if only it would use the built in compass app that comes on the iPhone so it would actually point to North, it would be perfect! Love this app so far. Only the third day trying it out.

It’s good.. If you take photos either of yourself, others or just photos in general..this app is great to help you with the lighting. I never put my location into an app because I’m paranoid of everything so I’m not sure if it would do this if you just allow your location services. But I put my location in manually and whenever I get off the app, I have to put in back in. It’s very inconvenient. I feel like it’s basically a free similar app to “golden hour” would recommend.

Best Golden Hour App. I downloaded a handful of apps to easily track golden hour and sunset times for my photography, but this one is by far my FAVOURITE! The app is really clean, very aesthetically pleasing, works well and it’s ad-free! I even had a suggestion for a date-picker that I sent to the developer via Instagram direct message. They got back to be almost right away and that update was avait in the App Store within 2-days. Amazing :)

A so called great sunset. The app showed a great sunset and after a hike to watch the ‘great sunset’ it turned into very poor. Not even close to what the app said it would be.

Fabulous app that helps me chase the sunsets!. I’ve taken up sunset photography and having this app to help guide me as to how the quality of the sunset and sunrise is amazing. Not always right but they allow you to submit a report so kudos for that!

Best app for sun nerds. I’ve been using Alpenglow ever since its debut in the App Store and can’t say how intuitive it is to keep track of all sun times across different locations. Keep up the great game Andy ✌🏻

Can’t find my location. It’s not very good at finding my location it takes way to long.. I love all the information and simple lay out but wish it could find my location or atleast something closer by then 3 hours away...

Report. It would be nice to help improve when this is incorrect, which it is fairly regularly. This morning I was up at 5am for what was supposed to be a 60% great sunrise. It was overcast, foggy and I snapped a picture to share in reports, but apparently 9mins after the event is too long after… somewhat silly. I don’t find this app to be very good at least in my location

Review. Not worthy of the money I spent. I know however this predicts is just an prediction, but they aren’t even close. This mornings sunrise was 21% and it turned out to be excellent. They are never close

widget issues. i think this is a really good app, but i find that the next event widget doesn’t work. it’s just blank. other than that i have no complaints.

Great App!. Love the app and makes planning so much easier, the only issue I’m having is the past few weeks my quality predictions haven’t been loading. App is up to date and location is set so I’m not sure what the problem is there.

Fair!. It’s a general guide for my area. I would not depend on it for doing photo work. Plenty of times when it states “poor” for a sunset, and I took beautiful shots.

Doesn’t predict correctly at all. I really wanted this to work. I tracked it for a week or so. It was wrong pretty much every time. I don’t know what criteria that are basing this on but it’s not effective. It’s not accurate.

Missed another great sunset because the app said it was poor. Great for Sunset/rise times. Poor for predicting sunset. I think have a random guess-o-meter I’d a sunset will be great or poor. Save you money. The upgrade is not worth it. L

The Forecast is Really Off. Ratings that show as “poor” are some of the most remarkable sunsets I almost missed.

No nonsense and looks great.. Was looking for a simple app that gave me the time for golden hour depending on my location. This app does that, and it does it while looking great. Zero BS. Don’t be scared by the in app purchases, they are just donations to the developer, no locked features. First time I’ve seen this donation based model in an app on iOS, love it. I got to try the full featured app and donate after I verified it was what I wanted.

What is this, an opposite app?. Has not been correct a single time. ‘Poor’ when epic and ‘good’ when not a single cloud in the sky.

Inaccurate. Don’t know where it thought I was but the good/great sunsets were no different than the fair to bad. In fact some fair nights were excellent and some great nights were meh. I’d hard pass on this If you’re using it for photography.

Not very accurate. Todays sunset was supposed to be good. It was not at all.

Being told to purchase again. I purchased a lifetime membership. Now, after a couple months, I’m being asked to purchase a subscription again. I feel like I may have been scammed by this app, so buyer beware.

Finally an app that does this. I’ve been using SunsetWX for years for sunset predictions, but having to open the site daily just to see predictions is painful and I tend to forget. The small price for a high quality, well designed apps with push notifications is totally worth it to me

Don’t trust. It does a good job of telling you the times of blue and golden hour. However don’t trust its percent rating for how well the quality of the sunrise or sunset will be. It has said the conditions will be good or 60% and the conditions of the location were total overcast and there was absolutely no color. You need to also look at a more robust app that lets you know about the high, medium and low cloud coverage like the app “clear outside.”

So happy this exists!. I was just saying I wish there was a sunset app that would tell you whether tonight’s would be good or not. And sure enjoy, it exists! Love this app and grateful the developer made it. 5 stars for sure!

Was great. The last update broke the search functionality. It crashes every time I search for a location.

Deleted. I have deleted this app (truly deleted) but it is still showing up in my location services. How do I remove it?

Seems to require “Always” location. I don’t see why “while using app and widgets” isn’t good enough, but it’s not. Maybe after the next update.

Consistently wrong or useless. I have been using this app for months, and what’s most striking is that it’s consistently wrong, or proving a useless metric. It uses a zero to 100% scale, and then also uses that scale to categorize the sunset’s quality. So tonight it predicted 27.5%, and had a FAIR categorization. Most often, it predicts somewhere between 47% and 52%. I can’t recall what that corresponds to as a categorized quality, something like MODERATE. Now the first question this raises is: what does this percentage even mean? Is it a confidence, like when there’s a 40% chance of rain? If so, tonight’s 27.5% means a 27.5% confidence that the sunset will be FAIR? I don’t think that’s what it’s supposed to indicate, because the whatever this percentage is supposed to correspond to, as it goes up, so does the quality categorization, i.e.: they’re the same thing. One is simply a continuous scale and the other is a categorical scale. So what do these percentages mean? I don’t know, but I guess it leaves the concept that this is just a zero to 100% scale of quality, and the confidence in that prediction is… 100%? That’s a bad way to go about predictions, but if that’s how it works, then having a near-always 47% to 52% prediction is roughly as useful as a coin toss. So tonight, the sunset was pretty good. If I were going to rate it on a zero to 100% scale of quality, I’d probably give it a 62-67%. Now I pull out the app, mostly to laugh at what it’s predicted and try to take note of how wrong or useless it was. *I would give this one star only, but statistical analysis of crowd ratings usually heavily discounts 1 and 5 because people almost always use those ratings.

Simplemente. Very handy. Notifies daily of great times for photos and walks outdoors (sunrises and sunsets) without any maintenance required from app users. I am not sure how to use the extra features: photos and forecast but I enjoy the simplicity of the app's main feature and use the info it provides.

Alpenglow. Every sunset prediction is POOR.

Can’t Retrieve a Forecast for a Whole Day?!?!?. What’s the point if it doesn’t work?

The buggiest app I’ve ever ever ever used. Do not waste your time. Great concept but omg so many glitches, bugs, etc etc.

Kinda bare bones. I really wish this was more robust. No option to view the forecast maps from the website? Doesn't automatically change location for sunrise/set forecasts when you're traveling. Often the date doesn't advance as the days go by. This is a few pretty basic upgrades away from being great.

Terrible. The author of this app must have very high expectations for what makes a nice sunset. The app showed ‘Poor’ but in fact the sunsets were all acceptable. Consistently unacceptable forecast.

Inaccurate. I really wish this was the tell all app that tells you sunsets and sunrises are going to be weak or amazing. In my experience since the 6 months I’ve had this app, I’ve had nothing but inaccuracy. Mother Nature is far more powerful than “scientists or weather forecasters”. Every sunrise or sunset has been completely different than what described on this app. So brace yourself for the unexpected. It’s always an adventure chasing the rise or set.

Great idea but won’t open.. Tried multiple times to install this app but it stays on the ‘enable locations’ screen and won’t go further. If I try to manually select, the app crashes. Disappointing.

Great app. Looks and works great :)

Easy to understand. Exactly as it says, gives you times for sunrise/set, golden hours, blue hours, and such. You can look ahead for other days to see say, tomorrow's golden hour. My favorite feature is the quality of the sunrises/sets. Not only can you see when they are, but even if they are worth watching. Highly recommend!

Awesome!. I use this app all the time, especially when I’m taking golden hour photos. It’s also super helpful for planning when I run since I don’t like running in the dark. I’ve had it for a little over a year now and nothing but love!

Pretty cool App. I hope more people start using this. Love the concept! I've already seen added features, in the short time I've had this, such as the ability to add a photo, with your rating. Haven't figured out how to view any yet, but still love the idea. I try to use this daily, and keep sharing it with new people. Looking forward to things to come! 😊

Great app, but Siri shortcuts.... I love this app being a photographer and seeing the best moments to take the shot, but it would be great if we could have more Siri shortcuts such as “golden hour Siri shortcuts.” I personally use the Apple Watch so see this apps notifications so it would be awesome if we could have golden hour and possibly blue hour Siri shortcuts. Thank you.

Phenomenal developers (updated). This app gets 5 stars because it’s great, but the new design updated 12/7 was terrible :( I miss seeing the breakdown in the app that we can now only see if we use the widget. I received a response quite quickly from this team and they added some of what I missed back. I was shocked they took the time and I look forward to other updates and apps from this team.
