Great content. This is probably one of the best streaming apps. The content is plentiful and the app’s layout is nicely put together. Probably the only problem is that the app doesn’t keep track of the content you have watched like every other streaming platform. There is so much content that at some point you will lose track. It’s kinda annoying that there is no indication of content that you have already watched. :(

iPhone app is bad, recent ADT sponsorship kills it. CANCELING SUBSCRIPTION: So, the content is good, but the iPhone app likes to freeze the video fairly regularly upon starting, while the audio continues. I haven’t noticed this on my iPads or Apple TVs. But what kills it for me, and why I’m canceling, is because someone thought that it was soooo intelligent and sooo smart to get ADT to sponsor the programming "without commercial interruptions". Cute. But in a totally cynical and sarcastic way. Because, now, we’re forced to watch an unskippable ADT commercial before a episode will play. Technically, "without commercial interruptions", but with a commercial. Technically, a perverse technicality. Okay, let’s recap here. ONE; I’m PAYING to watch documentaries, not ads from horrible companies. TWO; anyone who has ever dealt with ADT will tell you that they’re a horrible, horrible company, with absolutely ZERO ethics. Their sole mission is to swindle folks with their bait-and-switch schemes. So, to financially align yourself with such a company is unconscionable: you’re quite literally profiting from money that ADT has swindled from the backs of hard-working Americans, Curiousity Stream! SHAME ON YOU!

Best Content Anywhere. World class documentaries that are so beautiful to watch, vivid colors, landscapes, oceans, mountains, different science, history, tech and other content. I have been wanting to have something like this for years and just by a friend’s referral I found out about this service. You can’t go wrong. Buy the subscription, it will bring you tremendous value and honestly I can’t believe how fair the pricing is. Enjoy!

Content is good. App is bad.. This review is just for the phone app. I enjoy the content on my smart TV without any issues. The phone app is very buggy. Trying to go full screen is buggy. The video often pauses and doesn’t keep up with the audio. This in not a network problem. None of my other video apps have this issue. I also have gigabit internet and the best WiFi router available. Please fix the bugs! I would like to be able to recommend this but right now I can’t.

Wish I could give 5 stars, but.... The content of the app is great and full of variety. The price is very fair too, or would be, if the app worked... Video freezes while audio continues regularly. Screen goes blank and says “error loading video, often as well. The screen goes black and audio stops at the end of a video of every show about 2 minutes before it ends. If you stop watching for the day in the middle of a show, when you return you have to search fir what your watching instead of having it in a recently viewed area. I’m actually sitting here right now with my screen frozen on an image of dead Jesus while the audio of Mysteries of the Bible continues... Please fix the app! I’m using iPad and iPhone connected to TV via HDMI adapter.

Awesome paid non-fiction/documentary streaming. The app is so, so. Sometimes has trouble loading and doesn’t have the robust interface that other big name services have. Best way to describe it is hollow or fragile. That being said its worth every bit of trouble and patience. This is the best and most comprehensive quality documentary streaming service I’ve ever seen. Use it daily and worth every penny!

Excellent. There is a good mix of content, including documentaries on celebrities from entertainment and sports, as well as educational programming on history, science and medicine, and apparently new content is presented on a regular basis. The app is nicely organized on Roku, including being able to create a watchlist. The picture quality is very good, and at $20 a year it is a definite hit. I tried CS briefly when it was first released, and it has improved a lot. I did notice that several of the documentaries must have been produced for people with short attention spans because they are only a few minutes in length and can’t possibly go into much detail. It’s a jumping off point to do more research, but I prefer something more in depth.

I love this App. I find really interesting and thought provoking content on here that’s updated regularly and pretty easy to navigate. I think adding little trailers for what you want to view Would be a good improvement but other then that I recommend it to anyone who likes documentaries and science stuff

Serious quality problem. There are a lot of things I like about this service including the MiniPlayer and overall content but there is a serious problem with the stream quality dropping randomly. I’m not paying for the highest 4K streaming quality so I am not expecting perfection, but when I say the quality drops, I mean it drops to giant squares of color that render the image completely unidentifiable. Instead of 1080p HD which i am paying for, I am get what looks like 144p on screen every couple minutes. Again, this is not all the time, but it’s enough to be really annoying- especially because it even happens on my high powered computer when plugged into internet via Ethernet cable...

Best content!. Updating my review. App is frequently updated, it works very well. I feel bad paying what they charge for the amount of content, I would gladly pay more if it means staying in business longer. I love documentaries and this is great. We canceled all the other streaming subs as we find we watch this way more frequently.

Good content but the app needs work. Why is it so buggy when flipping from portrait to horizontal? Why can’t it use the accelerometer to do this? Why does it often freeze the video the first time it’s flipped to horizontal? Why does it recommend things I already watched- and why not indicate that I’ve already seen it, instead of drowning my suggestions with things that belong in my history? Also Is there a way to sort by content length?

Not too bad, but could be better. Like the programs so far, but it could use more 4K content though, especially for the premium price. I’m a pretty big science/historical/animal tv show kinda guy and there’s a lot of stuff I haven’t seen on the premium cable channels. I do think the “dashboard” could use an overhaul, it’s like Netflix, but not as user friendly. This review is based on the Apple TV app, I’ve yet to use it on my iPad or iPhone.

Some interesting content but quite lefty. Interesting wwII content by not terribly diverse. Largely taken from national broadcasters of secondary nations which gives interesting perspective. Unfortunately this perspective gives equal or more weight to very marginal and indeed corrupt positions. Examples being Algerian terrorists bombing ice parlour and listening to her anti-western rants favouring killing children, or PLO blaming of “west ignoring Zionism” as cause for Munich attack and murder of 11 Jews, or trying to marginalized church’s role in maintaining European civilization during dark ages by propagating lie about anti-Copernicus position etc. Only based on content I’ve watched so far of course but largely typical lefty equivalence poison.

Hooked! One channel we can no longer live without. I usually am not easily persuaded to watch TV but since we subscribed to this channel we have watched countless educational shows. I especially loved the episodes about Dogs and also the history of Gettysburg and Abe Lincoln. Those that have young children this station is a MUST!

Seriously flawed app. This is a terribly designed app. The search function is useless, search results have no apparent relation with the terms searched. The app does not keep track of the show currently being watched, it simply goes back to the home screen if you switch to another app. When you come back, you have to search again for the show (good luck with that!) and start it from the beginning. You have to manually search for the point where you left. The app keeps a list of “shows for you”, but the items in this list change randomly, with no apparent reason. It is not possible to select which shows are on the list. Please update it as soon as possible, as it is the app is barely functional.

Awesome, Convenient, Great Value!. What a great way to be given knowledge! One of my favorite things about this app is that you can turn your phone off and just listen to the audio of these documentaries. There are good numbers of documentaries from famous institutions but also lesser known gems that I’m sure you will be pleased to find—I’ve been very satisfied.

Great content not the best experience!. I love the diversity of the content on the app and sometimes I spend all my weekend watching! However, I have the app on my Apple TV, and it works fine as long as the app itself autoplay episodes/programs.. etc. However, if I browse and select a show then starts playing, the app shuts down in the 1st minute. This happens with all the contents. I tried everything to fix it, the only thing that works is to reset the app and reopen it. When I do, then my selected show would be in the list of “shows for you” and if I open it from there, it works fine. Otherwise, i just can’t select a show and play it! I hope developers can fix this soon. For the subscription fee, the least I would expect, is a smooth experience! I have to thank you for the content though, wonderful selection and most are very new! Keep up the good work! Thank you

It has issues. I like the content but the app could be better. It’s annoying to use. When it progresses to the next episode it leaves full screen mode every time. It bugs out a lot, pretty much any time I try to lock my phone and just play the audio it bugs out. It just won’t play. Gotta screw with it to get it to work. Retrying over and over until it does. Then when pausing a video to look at a text or literally anything that involves switching to another app, when I come back, whatever I was watching is gone. I know have to find it. Every time without fail this happens. Really unstable app. I’m at least happy that any video plays and the quality is great. I haven’t had any issues with buffering either. I have a iPhone 10x Max on 15.3.1.

App keeps crashing. Overall very happy with this app. Has all of the normal features you would expect for a streaming service but lately it keeps crashing on me. Would also like to see some more new content but most of the content is pretty good quality. Love the physics and space/cosmology stuff and there’s a good amount on here.

Amazing App with a few problems. I’ve been subscribed to CuriosityStream for over a year now and it’s fantastic! However, it seems with the latest update that there are some glitches to be worked out. Specifically When watching a series sometimes it just cuts and acts like I finished the episode even if I’m only 1/4th the way through it and asks if I want to rewatch the series. And it seems a lot laggier than it did a year ago.

Great content, not so great support. After many back-and-forth emails with the same boilerplate questions over and over that focused on bandwidth issues, rather than addressing a flaw in the Apple TV app which was causing programs not to play but the ads before them did, An update to the app finally got Curiosity Stream more stable. My 200+Mbps down 25+Mbps up with 20 ms ping time connection clearly wasn’t the problem, especially since ads ran just fine and CuriosityStream was the only app behaving this way. This kind of red herring support isn’t just frustrating and a waste of time, it sends the message to the customer that it couldn’t possibly be us, the problem must be on your end. Support was unaware of the update too

Great Content. Great price. Glitchy App.. The content is great and there’s plenty of it. Price is great! Best of all, no commercials and no rehashing of what has already been covered. The app is very glitchy. It’s how the History Channel and Discovery Channel used to be before they went to “reality” type programs. The app is glitchy. Can’t stop a program and come back to it later and start from where you left off. App will crash for no reason. No way to tell if you have already watched an episode in a series so you’ll have to keep track of where you left off.

Content and idea is fantastic. Horrid execution. The thought is there. But in practice the app is a complete failure. The interface is glitchy and buggy. The fact that i cant toggle make the app stop streaming after one episode or continue playing is rather annoying. But by FAR the worst thing about this. Is the fact that for the life of me I cant figure out why the closed captioning feature cant be disabled. I am a visual person and when i see some dumb(and typically incorrect) subtitle on the bottom of my screen it drives me insane. Have tried to find a resolution for this to no avail. Have already canceled my subscription and will not come back until they fix that.

Bad app/ great content. No speed controls and no background play. Please just use the native iOS stuff more so it works better. We should be able to speed up or slow down content based our abilities. These really are accessibility basics. Great content and fair pricing.

Terrible streaming, CONSTANT pixelation. Hands down the worst streaming experience outside of Project Free TV... constant blurring, pixelating the whole screen. The on-screen controls during playback don’t behave intuitively either, which means waiting for them to timeout before they disappear (normally a tap outside of any of the controls clears the screen of the controls). This app IS a streaming service. So if it can’t stream video or have elegant controls then it’s dumb to keep paying for it. Overall, largely unimpressed... no wonder they need to cram it down the throats of every YouTuber on earth.

Broken Apple TV App...The. The app is only worth 2 stars. But the content is worth 5! The service is amazing. I just wish the experience on the Apple TV worked. The home screen fails to load. It continues to show your logo spinning. The app works on my Nvdia Shield and on my TCL TV WITH built in Roku. I use my Apple TV as my primary streaming device because of the TV App integration, which is spotty at best. Please fix these issues so I can go back to watching your service on my preferred device.

Great app. A few suggestions.. I love this app so far, but right when I began using it I had a few first impressions of possible improvements. It doesn’t seem as if videos are able to enter into wide screen when I rotate my device. I have to manually press the full screen button. I would like it if the app included the full screen when rotating device option. Also, when entering and exiting full screen mode the video begins playing again. This isn’t such a big deal, but I would like it if the app remembered when I paused the video I was watching instead of starting it again whenever I exit or enter full screen. Other than those few minor details, the price for this streaming service is incredible, and the content looks amazing as well. I can’t wait to make more use of it!

Disappointing. There is nothing I like better than a good documentary. And for the first month I was extremely happy with the app. However, for the past week all I have been able to watch is the first minute or two of the episodes. I sent an email to customer support and never heard back. The other problem I had was that saving videos ate up a huge amount of memory on my iPad. When I went to delete them, I found videos on my iPad that I had no idea about

Wish it was better. I’m unable to stream any of the movies for shows to a different device (like Xbox or a tv) a lot of the time the sound will just stop and start (this is extremely rare but it makes it more annoying to watch). When I was subscribing I definitely was tricked because it wasn’t straight forward about the charges (it said it would be monthly but it charged me for an entire year). I love documentaries but I wish it was less buggy and gave me more freedom (there is no Roku app for this services or Xbox app, legit can only watch it on my phone

Really wanted to like.. I guess maybe I’m a snob, but It’s really difficult or not possible to find any really good documentaries on here. It all seems to be made for tv documentaries, which are good for information if I’m really interested in a subject but I’m looking for something spectacular. I want to see something unique and not those same dumb tv cinematography and caned lines. It sounds like all those shows have the same dry writers. Make a collection of award winning videos and I’ll stick around after my trial ends.

Excellent content, good UI. For documentary lovers this app has some cool content, I don’t care that I can probably find it elsewhere, I like that it’s all here in one place. The user experience used to be poor, but it’s consistently improved with every update and is really good now. I originally got the app because I like to fall asleep listening to documentaries, but for this purpose I ended up with a $5 monthly PBS subscription, they have the most soothing documentary voices to fall asleep to! (With Curiosity Stream it’s hit or miss finding something without loud parts that will wake you up, with PBS you’re guaranteed a good snooze!)

Great content.. The content is impressive, well worth the subscription. On other streaming services, I have found documentaries lacking. It’s usually one or two good ones hidden in a pile of overly dramatic, patronizing docutainment narrated by hosts whose last job was narrating commercials for selling trucks or “rad” 80’s children's toys. It’s those or reality tv style crud. This service is way better. Everything I’ve watched so far seems facts driven instead of shock/gross-out/train-wreck driven. I do understand some viewers may prefer the more human angle and less facts and data. There are plenty of documentaries on other services that will show you an impossibly specific (made up) family story that could have happened based on a glass pane found in Pompeii to pull at your heart strings and help you care about about glass but I’m glad there is still a service still putting out documentaries that just cover glass because glass is interesting. They are getting harder to find.

Buggish App but Amazing Contents!. Which the app was more responsive, less lag and would not crash every few minutes. Apart from the technical issues of the app, the content itself is solid, interesting and very insightful. Hope they fix the bugs soon and waiting on more original contents. Thank you CuriosityStream team!

Needs better authentication. I was disappointed to find out the logon for this app doesn’t work with Comcast Xfinity’s SSO web services for authentication. What that means is layman’s terms is that while I’m paying for CuriosityStream on my Xfinity bill, I can’t access that content in the app. Showtime and HBO have already figured this out, as I can logon to their apps using my Comcast account credentials. The developers at CuriosityStream need to figure this out too.

Great with just few tweaks to become non comparable. The application is just great with a lot of amazing content. The value for money is just excellent and non comparable. The only thing that I need to be added in the coming versions is support for Arabic subtitles and expand the library more specially in the scientific part, astrophysics and space exploration Overall: it’s awesome with great quality content

Needs Broader Catalogue. The documentaries I’ve watched so far have been super informative and engaging but I’m noticing some big gaps in the catalogue. When you look at the history documentaries, there are very few documentaries about non-European history. I’m really curious about the history of Latin America or Native Americans, for example, but when I search for a particular country or for “Native American” or “Latin America,” I’m more like to get documentaries about, Europe, American national parks, pollinators, or the American frontier. This is also partly due to flaws with their search algorithm, which seems to be hit or miss, but there really are very few documentaries about non European/American history. The nature documentary catalogue seems to be much more comprehensive, and again the documentaries I’ve watched so far I’ve really enjoyed. But these gaps in the catalogue are concerning. If the gaps were filled, immediate 5 stars for me, as this brings back the childhood joy of watching the Discovery Channel or the Science Channel.

Great for knowledge. Superb content at a great price. The app could be made better, but that’s not a serious issue. As long as you guys have great content, I don’t care about the app bugs and interface. Love you guys for sharing so many science and tech documentaries. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have learnt so much. You have got a customer for life.

great content, not so great app. Lots of titles and more and more are being added everyday, however there is many bugs and glotches in the app that deter from the experience. for example when streaming to chromecast when i move to pause the program it always restarts it when the app gets opened. many more bugs, hiring developers to fix these bugs would help the experience greatly.

Fantastic content at a great price, but bogged down by technical issues. I recently subscribed for a whole year of this service, and it is the best value in streaming I’ve found. The content is of high quality and right up my alley. Both new programs and ones I haven’t seen in years that cater to my interests in science and history. My only issue concerns screen mirroring to my tv. I use a lightning to HDMI adapter to mirror my iPhone XR and the app regularly will cause the picture either fade to black, freeze, or simple cut out. I never lose audio, but the image seems to always to act up on me.

Maybe one star too many..... CS is great, especially at a time when watching any television has become difficult for so many, myself included. But CS could do a better job of avoiding politics in some if its programs. Please don’t give me opinion disguised as fact. I am not curious about your opinions. Otherwise, this channel is like the Discovery Channel was in the beginning. I’ll keep selectively watching.

Great App !. I’m a documentary junkie ! This definitely scratches my itch for knowledge! A great value too ! This is like having PBS’s Nova, the Science Channel, Nat Geo and the Discovery channels rolled in to one, just a click away ! They say variety is the spice of life, this app is a full on spice cabinet! One feature I especially enjoy is how mainstream media usually just touches on an event, where this app goes in depth on the story. An example is the recent discovery of a black hole. A two minute cover on mainstream media After watching a story on CuriosityStream l now understand it better. The bonus is seeing the people behind its discovery. It’s like they are having a conversation with me in my living room ! Education with no test questions, just for pure educational knowledge! Kudos to the developers and those associated with the development of this amazing app! A sincere thank you to the men and women behind the development and production of this app !

Excellent content but …. The app is inconsistent when trying to download content for offline viewing. The UI makes downloading a series tedious and annoying. There’s a couple other small issues with the iOS app design that makes it a bit too touchy diminishing the ease of use, but that doesn’t take away from the high-value of this platform and it’s compelling educational content offered for a very smart cost of the annual subscription.

Avoid this scam. Like many pay subscription services they put you on recurring billing hoping you will forget come renewal time so they can charge you whatever they feel like at the time. I cancelled my subscription exactly one year to the day (still have the original email from sign-up) and they STILL charged me for another year. When I requested a refund they acted as if they were doing me a favor and sent to my bank account a pending credit of the difference between my original rate and their new rate... However, when I replied that I shouldn't be charged anything at all they jerked it back and reversed this little "consolation" credit right back out of my bank account. Now they will not respond at all to my inquiry. Save yourself the hassle and avoid Curiosity stream.

Sign-up trouble due to app bug. After filling in my name, email, and password while trying to sign up I was unable to continue. There is no button to dismiss the keyboard on my phone and I can’t continue without checking a check box that is hidden under the keyboard. Tip: check the checkbox BEFORE typing anything in any field. Then the ‘next’ button on the keyboard will let you get to the next screen.

Best factual entertainment every body needs.. This is the app that really makes me smarter at the same time very entertaining. I’ve learn so many things that helps me wider my perspective of the world we living in. Best platform for people that likes to improve their knowledge about the history, science, and technology.

Absolutely the best, and I’ve tried them all.. Hands down, the best aggregation of documentaries available. I especially enjoy the science and history content. New content added frequently. Original content is world class. I originally subscribed for the science, math and technology content, but due to the excellent curation and categorization, I’ve broadened my interests and I’m catching up with all the areas I snoozed through in school, namely World History, Culture and Civilization. Ive also become enthralled with a wider range of interests such as Anthropology, Early Human development, Genetics and Biology, along with space exploration, the World Wars, Espionage and even Philosophy. I watch CS every day and it is part of my daily bedtime routine. I highly recommend subscribing through the App Store and using the independent app on AppleTV, not as a Prime Video or other third party add on. My only complaint is that occasionally, maybe one or two days every other month, all content when played is limited to the first one minute or so. This appears to be a bug and I’m sure this is being addressed. If someone at Apple or CS reads this, please address. Thank you!

Expand your mind. To me, having access to these videos is a joy. I know not everyone may have this same experience. Besides learning a tremendous amount, the production of these shows allows you also get excited and emotional about science and other fields. Every kid in school should be provided with a free subscription.

Please Stop Auto-Play. The content is superb. It’s what the History, Science, and Discovery Channels used to be before they were all infected by the reality tv bug and lost sight of their true purpose. That being said, the inability to disable or otherwise control the auto-play (on iOS and TVOS) is frustrating. It doesn’t even pull something next from your watchlist, which means some random video that one may or may not be interested in is now taking up residence in one’s feed and history. It’s a nuisance.

It has been over a year and you still have not fixed this app.. I am a visually impaired user Who uses the iPhone screen reader to navigate applications. This app does not work properly with voiceover. Once a show is selected I can read the title description and everything else, from the main page I cannot tell what shows are available to watch. This is unreasonable and it’s a very simple thing to fix. I have offered to assist in identifying the accessibility difficulties and the developer has not excepted my offer. It is 2020 there is no reason for an app not to be accessible.

Disappointed. Content and app are ok, but no Chromecast support on my ipad2 means it is pretty useless to me.

Only half screen is showing on iPad. My partner has updated his app and the picture only plays on half the screen with no way to change it. It looks widescreen but with about a third of the top in black with no option to use the whole screen. Not a great update and I won’t be updating my app!

Good app and content. The app worked fine on an iPad 2. Intuitive layout. Lots of interesting documentaries. Low price.

chromecast flakey. Content is awesome, but man, that chromecast feature is a mess. Whenever I start a stream on the app and then switch to chromecast it would keep streaming on both my tv and my iphone, with the tv lagging behind the phone, of course . Also, sometimes it just fails to connect to the google puck (v2) altogether. Calling it the Netflix of documentaries is a bit of an exaggeration, at least from a technical perspective. Netflix has local servers here in Australia and never stutters, whereas CS goes buffering as soon as the masses start watching in the US. I'm on broadband.

Great app but miss Chromecast. Loving the content which is great value for the subscription price. However it appears with the last update I can no longer cast to Chromecast anymore. Hope the developers restore this feature.

Decent content horrible app. It is really a shame that this app is absolutely horrendous. The service itself is very awkward marvellous but some of them like the history of Europe series is high-quality This app however makes it almost impossible to watch it because it does not keep a record of what you have watched, there is no option to market an episode as seen, The lack of features goes on and on, including the lack of a button to forward or rewind videos, Something that’s not necessarily important in a normal entertainment video but I’m a documentary is essential

Not accessible with voiceover. Couldn't even get past the sign in part. The tickbox for the user agreement etc isn't accessible using voiceover on my phone. Hope I haven't been charged!!

Landscape?. The content looks good but the volume and play, stop won't hide and it won't go into landscape view. I would also love Chromecast from the app.

Great content, average user experience.. So just joined today and downloaded. Some really great shows on here from some amazing people I really admire. The app itself however not so good, stops to buffer every 5 mins during a show or will sometimes just freeze completely requiring the app to be restarted. I’ve watched 3 shows and had to restart the app like 5 times. Never have buffer issues with any other streaming services I’m on a good cable connection. I’m on iPhone XS Max running iOS 12.1.2.

Good content. Poor delivery.. The app consistently struggles with notifications from other apps or returning to play after pausing. Many glitches in getting videos to even launch. I'm sure it will get much better but not yet. After my free month is up, I think I'll leave it for a year or so and try again later.

Broken video player. One of the recent updates has broken the video player. On iPad, content in landscape mode now falls off the bottom of the screen, so you can only see 2/3 of the video. Content is effectively unwatchable and needs urgent fixing. Looks like others have the same issue. Decent content, but this bug needs fixing asap.

Streaming issues. Content and price is awesome, but the app is missing a lot of basic features. One major issue is that airplay stops when the phone locks. It means I am constantly touching the phone trying to keep it awake while watching.

Unstable App. App keeps on crashing and going back to the feature you were watching was almost impossible as it doesn’t capture the titles you have watched or you have started to watch. I regret for deciding to get a year’s subscription without going on a trial first. I’m really disappointed.

Good content. Some functionality issues. Content is interesting. However let down overall by extremely poor “continue watching” feature. I Chromecast whenever I watch anything, and the app fails to correctly recognise where you stopped watching a show. Leads to needing to search for the spot you left to continue watching which is extremely frustrating especially when other streaming services don’t have this trouble.

I love this app “BUT”. It has stopped working on my Samsung smart TV. It keeps looping back to the play button!????? I would normally give it a five but because of the problem I will give it a three star. Otherwise it has some great interesting things.

Broken on iPad. I tried to watch a video on this on my iPad after not using the app for many months, and i cant watch anything now in landscape as the video always slides 1/3 of the way down the screen. Please sort this out asap or i will have to revoke my subscription. Happy to work with the developers to fix this issue if they contact me.

Great content, buggy app.. I’m reviewing the Apple TV app here. As of time of making this everything is all updated. The content of of CS is absolutely amazing. Full of great, informative and entertaining content from various providers and even their own original content. But the app lately has been a pain to run. App takes longer then other apps to load to the content menu, videos take a while to start, and it constantly buffers or doesn’t buffer at all playing videos blurry. Look I know they are not Apple or Disney, but CS charge extra to watch 4K/HDR content ... I can understand that, but how can I pay the extra if they can’t even play basic HD correctly. I hope they fix it.

It’s a lemon - avoid. I feel mean saying this because I know it’s relatively early days for curiosity stream but this thing is barely functional and has bigger-all content. Don’t waste you time or money.

Quotes the wrong subscription price. Got an email asking me to reinstate my account. They know I live in Australia, and so I figured the price they quoted was $AUS (there was nothing in the email stating anything to the contrary). Got charged in $US. Pretty sneaky.

Too many " Talking Heads " documentaries.. I watch docos to zone out but everything I watch on here is a talking heads doco which takes me right out of the escape from the world. Paid for one month already have cancelled .

Just crashes. After the last two updates this app won’t open without crashing. Not much good to me. I want to use this app but cannot get it to open further than the opening screen before it crashes. If anyone actually reads these I would like some help please.

Only 2 min play and Help desk don’t reply. Videos play for 2 min or less. Nothing in help. I email help desk and did not receive any reply for ages. I contact Their Twitter account and no reply as well. The 2 min problem is famous for years and they don’t seems to fix it. Anyhow, I don’t recommend it unless you would loss your money.

Please fix AirPlay on appletv. Love the service amazing documentaries have iPhone 6s but when it goes to sleep when have AirPlay on Apple TV it closes. Please fix the setting in the application.

Horrendous buffering…. I am so mad that I paid before reading the reviews. This app does not work on the phone ( what app doesn’t at the end of 2021)???? Keeps on buffering despite all other streaming apps working beautifully. Doesn’t keep score of what you watched and at times decides to tell me that they don’t have any docos… rubbish app, go to another service!!!!

Major fault in app. The search function does not work

Video resetting? April 2021. Each time I move to a different app and then go back into the CS app, the video playing (via Chromecast) rests to the start. Otherwise the app content is great!

Unusable. Consumer Affairs complaint coming. This is a matter for Consumer Affairs as you’re taking money for a service that doesn’t work and you know it’s seriously problematic. I haven’t seen any responses to poor reviews & it crashes on my Ipad rendering it unusable. App crashes. The app shows the loading screen and then crashes every time I open it now. I am running a current iOS system, and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app with no success.

Great content. The App needs work.. Great deal in terms of content. They also sponsor some of my favourite YouTubers. Haven’t figured out how to connect my account to Nebula. Will want to do that before renewing. Exiting the player crashes iOS sometimes. Navigations is prone to freezing. The search function is utterly rubbish. Can’t tell the difference between Douglas fir, a plane or a Viking.

Good content. Website and app need work. The docs are fascinating and well made (which is what really counts and mainly what you pay for). The price point is perfect (very reasonable). But the app and website feel like it’s from 10 years ago. App frequently crashes, plays the not selected doc when casting, randomly stops casting and other more. Just need to improve the interface. For how long I’ve been subscribed I’m honesty surprised (over 2 years) it has not been updated.

Playback speed options. Ibid. it’d be fantastic if we could adjusts playback speeds.

Text scaling very bad on iPad. When Dynamic Text Sizes are set at a high setting, UI elements are very broken. Good content but the app is very hard to use like this.

Unstable. App will randomly fail to open, going from picture-in-picture to fullscreen with cause the app to crash every time. A paid service should be better than this.

Really great. But subtitles are not working.. Works on beta in the web browser. But CC/subtitles are not working in the app.

Crashes. Running 12.5.5 iOS on iPad and it crashes as soon as you play a video. Just subscribed so I don’t know if the old version of the app worked any better.

Crashes on Launch. Can’t say much about it. Starts to launch and doesn’t even get past start up screen before crashing.

Excellent content, buggy app. The content is great but the app is impossible to use due to the fact that it crashes all the time. I also have mixed results on the PS4 application. Screen rotation causes the content to skip outside of the frame and then the app crashes. You often lose your place in the video. Mobile browser might be easier.

In ipad, you can’t have the screan open while using other apps. As time evolves, CuriosityStream goes backwards. It is already enough trouble to go from one show to another, with the last update you can’t open it as a side window. So i reverted to youtube and will end their service which i still believe has great content, but you can’t enjoy it !!!

Don’t Forget Your Password. Whatever you do, do not forget your password! It will not let you change it. Prompt after prompt I tried using the change password feature and it just will not work. The instructions for changing your password are very confusing. After about twenty attempts it still does not work so I gave up. I signed up for a year and still have 5 months remaining that I will not be using, I guess, until they fix the change your password feature to be less confusing. Shame, since I was enjoying this service’s content.

GREAT STUFF, But…. It’d be nice if y’all would explain the difference between the 3 different subscription plans! Absolutely NO thought given to that at all. I for one have questions, and trying to decide between ‘Basic’, ‘Standard’ and ‘Premium’ is made all that much harder to decide. You should go into your App Store Description and AMEND it asap! I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s noticed this glaring omission! And for the few keystrokes it’d take to amend the description, it’s all the more egregious that it hasn’t already been done by now! Come on guys, you CAN do better! Oh, and I would still like to know the difference, so get in touch!

They broke it. The app was never great but at least it was perfectly functional before the latest update. Now, the like/dislike buttons don’t work, you can’t manually dismiss the screen overlay (you need to wait for the app to do it automatically a few seconds later) and, worst of all, some shows repeatedly crash back to the programme screen. I really hope they work out these bugs shortly; otherwise, I’ll move on to something else.

Great service, terrible app, HELP!. I love the service, but I have 2 serious problems. 1) I have accidentally signed out of my account and when I sign back in it tells me to choose a plan, I’m already trying out the $3.99 monthly plan, which is what my iTunes subscriptions also show. When I click on the $3.99 plan in the app it tells me I’m already subscribed, yet I cannot get passed that page to watch anything! Help!!! 2) Not as serious but still very annoying. Before I had problem 1 above, while watching any show, I’d open the app and it would completely change the show I’m watching to a random show. I understand this is a newer service, but these problems are a little ridiculous. I’d love to continue my subscription, but until these problems are solved I won’t be happy.

Chrome cast. Chrome cast function is terrible. Cuts out and starts over when moving between other apps

I hate the new version.. The latest version of the app is terrible. It stutters every few minutes replaying the last phrase 2-4 times. When watching a series (eg. Engineering the Future), it doesn’t remember which episode I’m on. It just starts with the beginning of the first episode. In the old version, I could simply go back to my watch list, click the program and scroll down to pick the episode, but the revised app doesn’t show the episodes. What good is a subscription to a streaming service that behaves like this.

Nice service, but…. Lots of great content but don’t waste your money on the 4K subscription tier. I’d say like 95% of what I have watched so far or would be interested in watching is 1080p at best, some might even be 720p. Not the end of the world on mobile but it’s very noticeable on AppleTV and a large 4K display.

Non functional. Can’t do anything until you register and pay. And you can’t use Apple login or pay using Apple. I thought this was not allowed on App Store.

Get what you pay for... I was lulled by the low annual cost but won’t be renewing. I have Chromecast and using the app is highly annoying. Every single time something goes wrong. If I cast something, then minimize the app and re-open it while streaming the show often restarts from the beginning. My watch later list short circuits when I delete a title, sometimes duplicating parts of my list or randomly deleting titles which reappear when I open the app again. The list goes on and on. The content offered is good quality and fits with my interests but you couldn’t pay me to keep using this streaming service, especially since there are so many other options.

Interesting but some bug. Sometime its slow to load sometime it dont put me back at the good spot and if put your phone sideway and then back to normal the screen bug and the app shuts down ...

Curiosity. I have cancelled and deleted this app months ago, because I have been ill and don't watch anything on this app anymore. I Tried to get rid of it in the cloud too, but no luck there either. They keep charging my full price for at least six months and am not using the app. Easy to get this app. But for me it's been impossible to get rid of it. If they did it right , I probably would of come back to this app when I could use it. But when they keep charging me even when deleted. They ve made it impossible to get rid of. Don't get caught in the same scam as me.

Horrible app for a good service. Love the programming but the app navigation is terrible. Apparently no one there is "curious" about proper UX/UI.

Waste of money. The app is complete trash and doesn’t work. Save yourself some money and don’t subscribe.

Initial Review…. I’m hoping the rating will go up, but probably not until the UI actually does what it claims. Setting Download quality doesn’t change the actual download size. Low quality claims ~200 MB per hour of showtime. In actual fact, 52 minutes of showtime takes 1.6 GB. I tested this twice, and the second time, the exact same five episodes actually took more storage space, not less. Otherwise, I’m pleased to see the app available.

A very good app and good customer service.. I got the app during the pandemic to have educational content on streaming. It’s a lot like what discovery channel used to be when it was more focused on the sciences. I really enjoyed the Egypt series with Bettany Hughs. The app could have better descriptions about the show to be able to dig deeper into a topic. Also, I felt that the business content was lacking. I had a few billing issues but their customer support was great and got me sorted.

Crashing. Since the new update the app just crashes, I open it and it just shows the loading screen and then crashes. Can you please fix this

Annoying UI, but amazing content. I’ve been using CuriosityStream going on my third year now, and have loved it from the very beginning. The only complain I have is that I have to go through my history to search for the show I was watching or have to manually go to my watchlist to track the series I want to watch. It would be so much easier and convenient if these functions were present on the Home Screen. I can live with the lack of personal recommendations, but the fact that I can’t pick up where I have left off is really annoying. I use CuriosityStream on my iPhone, iPad and my Apple TV. Thus syncing my shows through all three apps would be fantastic. Please fix this issue, please!!!!!

The new app won’t open. The new app is almost impossible to open on my ipad. On the rare occasions it does work, I cannot get the program I want because other programs I don’t want pop up. They have some good programs but I can’t tolerate all this trouble, and so will cancel.

Content is great, App not so much.. I have no issues, when streaming from the website, but when using the app the experience is glitchy. It crashes, and freezes up randomly. Doesn’t seem to handle transition from landscape to portrait without loosing on screen controls. Crashes when browsing the library…. Seems quite beta.

Paying To Watch Commercials. I’ve been paying a monthly subscription for CuriosityStream, and have found some good content. But lately when I start a program, there is an announcement: “The following program is presented without commercial interruption thanks to Toyota.” Then they immediately show a Toyota ad. I actually DO classify that as a commercial interruption, and it’s insulting to my intelligence to suggest it’s not. I refuse to pay for commercials, so I am ending my subscription right now. I should also mention that there are sometimes heavy digital compression artifacts in the streaming, which I don’t get with my other streaming services.

Good Content, SO Buggy. I wish this app worked better than it did. It’s quite buggy. Downloading videos for offline viewing almost never works, and often includes lots of app crashing. I got Curiosity Stream to watch interesting content while traveling on airplanes for work, but haven’t been able to make it past the bugs to view any content offline.

Menu system isn’t good. So annoying to go through the menu, click on the category you’re interested in only to get you into search!! What the heck!! Going through the reviews it seems like the developers could care less about the negative reviews. I guess if you’re getting a high rating who cares??

Better than Netflix. I have been looking for a streaming service like this for a while now. I love to wide range of subjects offered and am never at a loss for something new and interesting to watch.

Complete disappointment. Since I was a kid, I loved to watch documentaries. I was very excited to get this service. I find the search function to be completely invalid. Since I watch documentaries prior to this service, I want NEW productions not decades old material. There is no way to sort by release date and it is too tedious to go through individually to do so. As a result I paid for a year subscription and HAVE NOT WATCHED ANYTHING. A complete disappointment

Devs need to fix fire stick version. Maddening that I took a long time to set up a warthog list, i can’t get to my profile or list after watching the first item in the watch list. I go to profile and I can’t get into it. It just shows the series I already watched. Exited the app and returned to same issue.

The old version was better. The new version is so absolutely awful. It’s hard to navigate. You cant see episodes listed for a series. The screen in screen no longer works. The sound while screen off doesn’t work. Even just trying to drag the progress bar only works 20% of the time. So so awful, bring back the old version

Nice Documentaries. Finally a source of documentaries. I have been searching for this option at other entertainment channels. Nice library. Keep adding. Add more on history please. It’d be nice to be able to download for plane trips -just like you do with Netflix.

Glitches. This streaming service has glitches. Love the documentaries but every time I get out of the app and back in it rewinds to the beginning. Super annoying. Also the app freezes constantly and I have the newest iPhone and a fast internet. Can’t figure it out.

Captions and autoplay. The captions button is broken! When a video starts on ipad it automatically has captions on. You then click the button to turn them off but that does not do anything. You then need to do it another time and that turns them off. Also the text of the options are not viewable because of poor choice of the text color in the button options during a film. You need to allow people to turn off autoplay this is ridiculous.

Almost a perfect app. I like almost everything sbout the app. Many of us im sure watch at night and it would be nice if you could lock and turn off your screen and just listen. The documentary stops.

Awesome. Using IPhone 6 and app is great when I travel...and superb 4K visuals when I am home on my big Screen. The content is everything I missed when I cut the “cable” service. Well worth the annual fee! This is true TV for nerds as my brother put it.

Add free features to entice new users. I enjoy CuriosityStream. Documentaries are high quality, with many scientific and mathematical subjects while sprinkled with history, health, and economics. I do suggest adding free features to what could be a "CuriosityStream Lite", which showcases a small selection of popular movies at the moment. Then, satisfied viewers can pay to view the rest of the catalogue!

App is terrible. Love all the content but have a huge issue with the app performance. No videos will load and if they do it will only last a few minutes before it messes up again. Also disappointed with customer service. I have sent 3 messages and have not heard back at all about app issues.

Botany related material is woefully lacking.. I’ve come to expect the balance of nature documentaries to be all about animals on the other platforms but I had higher hopes for this one. Outside of some brief crash course material and a few major cash crops, there isn’t much to find. Certainly not enough to sate my appetite for the subject.

My favorite app. This is by far my favorite app and streaming service! Unfortunately though I updated the app today and now I can’t use full screen on my iPad. Hoping this is fixed soon but still 5 stars for an amazing service.

Sound won’t stop!. We love the app, but on our Apple TV the sound from a program continues to play even after you’ve stopped the video. Play another video, and now you have two audio tracks playing. The only way I can stop it is by rebooting the Apple TV.

Background play doesn’t work. Got this to listen to docs while driving a lot for work. Locking my phone or switching to another app stops the stream. Background play is on, and system settings are set to allow background play, but no luck.

Please fix offline download. Downloaded content stops playing and begins an never ending buffing spinning circle. I have to close the app and start playback, to get it working again and worst of all, it goes back to the beginning of the documentary. Otherwise, I love the content!!!!

Multi device issues. Recently subscribed through Apple TV. The app auto downloaded to my iPad but doesn’t recognize my credentials. Apple support acknowledged they are having issues with the CuriosityStream and Apple systems communicating. It is suggested that I cancel through Apple TV and sign directly through CuriosityStream. The programming is wonderful, I’d prefer to have access to it across multiple devices so I’ll expend patience.

Excellent Streaming Service. Excellent content and an intuitive interface make for a great app! After a year of having it I have learned many new and interesting things in a fun way, would recommend for kids, history buffs, science lovers, or anyone who just wants to be entertained.

Frustrated. I am watching on the iPhone 11 and I am unable to watch any program in landscape without the app freezing up. After it freezes up no matter how much of the show I have watched it does not show up in recently viewed. I have closed and re started and deleted and re downloaded but neither worked.

Great service but the needs updates. Love the content but as someone who mostly just listens while at work or commuting the app is a struggle. When I got to answer texts/ calls/ emails I almost always get logged out and half to sign back in and about half the time it won’t remember where I left off. Lots of quality of life updates like this would help a lot.

Extremely Poor Quality iPad App. This is one of the most frustrating apps I have ever used. On an iPad Pro, videos enlarged to full screen mode will end up freezing within seconds of streaming. The audio playback continues, but the video gets stuck and there is no recovery. If you restart the video, the same problem occurs again and again. Others have reported this same issue for months with no fix. This is the only app I see this happen with. Unacceptable.

Love Docs!. I was able to check out a couple videos yesterday at work. Unfortunately, today the app isn’t working properly. I’ve removed and re downloaded the app to no avail. I hope I can find a way to fix this. Otherwise I love the selection and content!

Functionality. Please go back and fix the bugs for the buttons and accelerometer data on iPhone 11 devices running 13.5.1 I'm having trouble with getting the video button overlay to go away with a single tap.

Almost Subscribed UHD. Triple the price for UHD 4k stream. So sad 4k stream cost as much as Netflix for one network. Canceled subscription, might reconsider if I don’t get ripped off for 4k. Same reason the movie industry will fail again. Charge extra $$$ for 4k people will find other means of getting the content. Offer 4k at a standard price, watch your subscriber count blow through the roof. This channel is geared toward techies. Who you trying to rip off?

A wealth of information. It is so much information. These documentaries are awesome. They don’t show you 2nd or 3rd rate commentators. They have the experts. The information in these documentaries are current and future. I’m so glad I signed up. Just pennies a days. Thx Curiosity Stream:)

Content is great, but playback on the app needs work. Definitely gonna stay subscribed to them, but if possible, at least give the app a chance to rotate video and more responsive full screen button (too much trial an error not able to go full screen. The hit zone is too small)

Five Stars. Great app for documentaries. Fantastic annual price too. You won’t regret the subscription if you’re into educational content. I was glad to have an app that has none of the “fluff” readily available on television and all the content I need in life.

Is this company still in business?. The app is laughably bad. So bad that I can’t remember the last time I used an app this buggy. I can barely open anything without it crashing on my iPhone 12 on the latest iOS and the latest version of the app for over a month now. As I primarily watch content on my phone, this service seems unusable and not worth the subscription until this is fixed.

Last Episode Doesn’t Play. I love the documentaries. They are awesome! But, multi-episode documentaries won’t play the last episode. They start and then 10s - 2m in, they just stop; exit out, like the end of the video but with no saved progress; more like the video is crashing. I have not seen a last episode work yet. I want to like this, but this glaring bug is a little ridiculous.

Great Content / Ridiculous Interface. I’m using v2.4 on a iPad. Once a show starts using mirroring on my tv, the limited pause and 15 second forward and backward controls disappear so there is no way to pause, rewind or fast forward. If I stop the show, it can only restart from the beginning. Please fix this. I mean, it’s not like this hasn’t been solved about 1,000 times already by other vendors.

Terrible App. I can’t understand why this app is so highly rated. It’s boarder line unusable with Chromecast. It stops streaming for no reason. The app seems to be unaware that you watched a video via streaming to Chromecast, so it remains as unwatched. Nothing appears in my watched video list. When I open the app while streaming and click on a series, even the one I am currently watching, it restarts the series from episode one, without prompting. It baffles me how some of these apps get through testing.

Great app. I just signed up and am very pleased so far. The app was crashing on my devices, but I let them know, and it was fixed rapidly. There is a huge variety of programs. We are so excited to watch them.

Great content. It’s like what Discovery Channel and the History Channel used to be before they became nothing but cheap reality TV and aliens. Good original content. Syndicated content is mostly from Europe so it is a refreshing departure from the American centric content on cable.

Bugs in latest update. The latest update has broken Account->Watchlist and Account->History. Good content and decent app. However, it is rather inconvenient for my Watchlist to be located under the Account menu. Watchlist should be on the home screen or main menu. A Recently Watched list on the home screen would be useful as well.

Never plays to completion. I’ve been with CS for several years now, and I’m having major issues with the Apple TV app — for several months now. I’ll start playing an episode of a show…after two minutes that’ll skip to something else, which will run for two minutes then skip to something else again. If this keeps up I’m just going to let my sub lapse.

Awesome new app and original content. The latest app update really pushed Curiosity a leap forward. Looks and feels great. I really enjoy the new original content as well. Fair price and fantastic value. Great job

Quality content but buggy app. Documentary quality is far better then what you’ll find elsewhere but the app does it an injustice when more often then not you’ll need to restart the app to play a video you’ve already started in landscape mode.

Please fix!!!. So...I’m new here and I decided to download this app because this might have information I’m looking for. But when I got in I gave my Gmail and the other stuff but I had to pay a membership I was so annoyed because I didn’t understand what it was for and I didn’t want to waste money! It was just for a school project and I also don’t wanna fail so I decide to ask people in my class witch helped a lot better! So please think and ask before downloading this app and please fixxxx!!!!

Serious malfunctioning. I just downloaded this onto my phone for the first time and it is GHASTLY. I have had zero issues on the AppleTV or the iPad but on here? TUH! I'm lucky if I get three full minutes of an episode before it pauses and asks if I want to "watchthe series again". It WAS working fine this morning and then I noticed that it was having a problem with replaying the same episode again FROM THE BEGINNING! This is embarrassing and disgraceful. Fix this garbage app or pull it from the store until it's working properly.

Good content - AWFUL mobile app. The content so far is really enjoyable and worth the fair price it costs, however the UX on the mobile app and fire stick application are HORRIBLE. It doesn’t pause when click pause, doesn’t remember where in the episode when you stop, restarts from beginning just randomly, will play audio over itself when turned landscape. I mean there could not possibly be more bugs in the technology. Such a bummer because I like the content, but they make it sooo hard to use and enjoy

A couple issues with voiceover. For blind users, the app works fairly well with voiceover. However, program titles aren't spoken, and a few buttons aren't labled. Also there should be audio description for programs.

Apple TV app fails. I love the content. I subscribed via Apple TV. When I try to play on a different Apple TV (also mine), it wants me to sign in with my Curiosity Stream account. I don't have a Curiosity Stream account... it's an Apple TV subscription. Most apps would have a "restore purchases" button. The Apple TV does show that I am subscribed when I check my subscriptions menu, but the app wont work. Please fix.

Unable to play downloaded video offline. Unable to play downloaded video when offline with the latest two versions (4.1.2 and 4.1.3) of the app. Offline = streaming on WiFI only and no WiFi around. Why do we needed network connection for downloaded videos? The previous versions were working just fine and didn’t have the same issue.

Extremely buggy, keeps freezing. I wanted to like it, but it keeps freezing and fails to start. Sometimes, it works, but most of the time, it is non responsive and videos freeze.

Pure Garbage. How do you make an app, for smart people, charge people for it, and then it just doesn’t work. I spend a great deal of my life “offline” and this app just plain doesn’t work offline. Period. It barely works the limited time I’m online. I would love to watch the wealth of content in the order I so choose but their app will not let me watch episodes out of order, if at all. Save your money and watch Maurey or TMZ instead of wasting your precious brain cells on this forsaken app.
