Literally Breaks Steam Games on Decent GPUs. After paying for Pro subscription to utilize my ipad with Mudbox and Photoshop, two GPU intensive pieces of software that this app is perfect for, I found that it was an amazing addition to my toolkit. Finally I could link my ipad to my pc and draw directly in my apps. Then I tried to load a game on steam and it loaded to a fully black screen. I tried another, same problem. It took me a week to figure out it was Duet Display on Windows 10. So I realized I had to either choose my multihundred dollar steam collection or a 20 dollar app. I emailed Duet to see if they could refund me and if they knew about the problem. Apparently they are aware that 1000 series Nvidia GPU’s have issues with Duet. You know, the newest most powerful GPU’s you might use for 3D modeling, photoshop and that kind of thing. They apparently aren’t in charge of the subscription for their own product. Meaning that they can take my 20 additional dollars on top of the app, but that they can’t refund me when their product literally breaks a major component of my PC. I am livid, please wait on buying this if you have a PC with a 1000 series Nvidia GPU. Don’t get scammed. Also, Apple, figure out how to let companies refund users if their app subscription causes this kind of problem. This is ridiculous.

Phenomenal App and Equally Phenomenal Support!. I have Duet Display running flawlessly on multiple laptops and multiple iPads—truly an amazing app that is rock solid even on Big Sur. I’ve even breathed new life into a longtime defunct iPad 2 which otherwise would be just a paperweight...using a new M1 MacBook Pro. I find that incredible and how the developers have passionately cared to keep this app fully functional across so many MacOS and iOS updates. And I know this for a fact as the support team seemed ready to stop at nothing, including weekends, to insure I was able to resolve an issue that I had. I was gobsmacked at the expediency of their in-depth and patient replies as we diagnosed and resolved the issue. After dealing with support teams from across a myriad of products, this Duet support and development team is easily the best I’ve encountered. This five-star app stands on its own merits but has the added bonus of a stellar and caring support team. We need to support developers like this.

It works! (Windows 10). So I bought this program a few years back for photoshop/ after effects purposes and it worked but I wasn’t able to play any of my video games. So I would uninstall duet whenever I would play. That got tedious so I kept it uninstalled fully. Sometime later I tried it again and it got worse, photoshop wouldn’t work and my games. After I believe a year and a half of not using it, I had hopes and googled about everyone’s experience about using duet. I found a 2 month old reddit thread which was stating to not use it since it messes with the gpu, but saw a guy recently commented that he uses it and it works now, followed with another user in doubt saying “really?” followed by the same user saying “holy crap it does works!” End result I redownloaded it and whatever the guys at duet is doing hats off to you my photoshop works and gaming works, haven’t experienced any bsod or the like. Thanks!

Unsupportive and Inconsistent. I would first like to say I’ve been using Duet in my workflow for over a year now with both an iPad Air 2 and 4. I really enjoy the functionality that Duet offers, however the entire setup process is to say the least inconsistent and buggy. I’m dexterous enough with technology to be able to remedy the problem after resetting connections and resetting computers, but for when there is free or cheaper options that come without these bugs, it’s hard to continue to recommend the app. Another portion of my dissatisfaction is with the update rollouts. I use duet for PC connections, and finding the choppy and unrefined Windows program while updates for the program come out every few days or weeks is honestly saddening. The app on mobile devices also is unsupported, not having received an update in over 7 months and carrying the same bugs since the last update. Other than the complaints stated above, I do want to say that the Duet Support Team is one of the best Support Teams out there, and a big reason I’m sharing this review is because I believe that Duet cares about their app and wants to refine it as much as possible. If any Duet Representatives read this, I hope this facilitates some updates and appearance changes for a better app and a better community experience. Thank you for providing this service and for your care to your customers. (My 1 Star Review is to only get the attention of the Duet Crew) 3/5

And the makers of duet have screwed me again. This time it was with an update to the windows Duet app. I run my windows machine headless, using duet and an iPad pro to operate it. It's always been buggy, duet often can't send input right away on restart etc - but fiddling rebooting and relaunching the app all eventually get you in. Now, duet on Windows says it has an update - I think hurrah, maybe they fixed the bugs. It updates, disconnects, and now won't reconnect. I have my computer completely inaccessible to me because the chuckleheads who charge so much money for this app didn't bother to test what their update would do to someone using duet. So what now - I have to buy or borrow a monitor bring it to my house and set it up just to troubleshoot this app again! The pantone thinking they'll use duet in any kind of a reliability needed situation I'd watch out. It seems the developers only intend it to be a secondary display and are either not supporting it as a primary display or are actively trying to prevent it with this new update. Either way, I feel betrayed and am really in trouble now, that the new version prevents automatic connection, and my computer is stuck and useless ok n the day I need it. Thanks guys' hope others who read this won't try to use duet for anything serious.

Blue Screens. I bought this app on a suggestion of a coworker. It looked very promising in the demonstration. I have two monitors at work, and use my laptop as a 3rd display. It would be really convenient to be able to use my iPad Pro as a second screen when on the road or working from home. The installation was fine, but required a bit of help from our IT group to install the software and get the iPad and Laptop to “talk” to each other. After successfully hooking the two up, things seemed to be working. However, there was significant lag and freezing when using the iPad as a secondary screen. Cranking down the resolution, power, and refresh rate seemed to help (but did not completely eliminate). One issue we couldn’t diagnose was the iPad had a text tine displayed across it when using duet which read “osbase idisplay evaluation copy”. I reached out to duet several times, but have yet to hear anything back. Once the settings were squared away, and I started using duet, the blue screens started. Two within 30 minutes. Looking at the codes, there is a conflict with duet and the Nividia drivers I need for doing CAD work. Despite ensuring we had the latest drivers, the problem persisted. In the end we had to uninstall duet.

Maybe with the iPad Pro 12" and a relatively small Mac but.... I have an iPad Pro 10.5 and when matched with my 27" iMac, the screen size and resolution on my iPad makes the interface so small as to be nearly useless. I can see how this app's pro version would be useful when matching a 12" iPad Pro model with a MacBook given the relative similarities in size. I was hopeful that I would be able to use my iPad Pro and Pencil as a suitable tablet substitute with my iMac but that doesn't seem to be the case. Also, given the relative high horsepower of both my iMac and my iPad, there seems to be a significant amount of lag which makes interactions a bit too problematic. There's far more lag than one would expect using devices that have as much processing horsepower as both of these devices have especially with a direct USB connection. Update: Having just tried to use the Pro version, the screen size issue remains. While it is possible to pinch-zoom on the drawing in SketchBook, the tool panes remain tiny unlike Astropad, which not only zooms the drawing, it also zooms the tool panes as well. There is very significant and problematic lag as well. Gesture inputs from the iPad result in late and very jerky responses in my iMac. Given that this is a wired connection, the lag issue is inexcusable. In short, the app needs a great deal of work and improvement.

SAVED MINE & MY MAC’S LIFE!!. Do I got a story for this review! So my cat knocked my MacBook off my bed, my mac slammed shut and I was freaking out when I opened it! I couldn’t see anything on my display! It was lit up but it was black. My keyboard was lit up and I can hear my music still going, so I know my Mac works just can’t see anything! And I was working on my midterm paper which was due in 2 hrs!! My boyfriend gave me the idea to plug my Mac into my TV as a monitor and it worked! I finished my midterm paper, but using the tv as a monitor wasn’t the best option. I have an iPad Pro, so I looked into seeing if I could use that to mirror off my Mac. That’s when I found this app!!!! The holy grail! It does everything it claims! I connect my Mac to my iPad and I can do everything! No lag either and it’s clear! My favorite part is that I can use my Apple Pencil on the iPad to move things around on my Mac! This is my first and probably only review I will ever write for any app! It saved my life and gave me a peace of mind that I can still use my Mac. Once I get my Mac fixed, I’ll definitely still use this app! 500% recommended!!! Whoever developed this app, you the real MVP!

Good enough for me. When traveling I like to have my iPad with me as a backup in case my laptop crashes. I am also much more productive when working with two monitors than one. So being able to use my iPad as a secondary monitor is great! The screen resolution on my iPad is excellent when using it as a secondary monitor. Duet Display is a reliable option but with some caveats when connecting to a Windows 10 computer. It is not quick to respond as a quality second monitor. Refresh rate/mouse lag ranges from slight to moderate. Mostly it is slight, but tends to get worse over the course of the day. It performs better after a reboot of my iPad and notebook. Once or twice a day Duet suddenly stops working, but the fix is simple. I open Duet on my notebook and hit “Quit app”. I then open Duet again and this fixes it every time. If I could count on my notebook 100% then carrying a portable monitor would be a better solution. But, having my iPad as a backup gives me peace of mind that I will not be without a working computer if my notebook should fail for any reason. Duet Display is a serviceable option if you need a secondary monitor and prefer that secondary monitor to be an iPad capable of serving as your backup computer.

Awesome App and Unparalleled Support Team. I got this app hoping to use my iPad Pro as a second monitor for my PC computer. After installation it worked like a jiffy, and not only was it a second screen I could use the touch screen of the iPad to navigate in web browsers, pc file explorer, etc. I then encountered my first issue: when using the software Ableton Live 10 the touch feature stopped working. I reached out to the support team and asked them if they could help me resolve this issue because I knew from the introductory video on their website that the touch features of Ableton live should be working. They responded back in the matter of minutes (on a Sunday!). We went back and forth for a while and it became evident that I had somewhat of a unique problem so they decided to forward my info to the dev team for testing. About 2 days later they came back with a solution that worked (I was running Ableton live as an administrator - this function needed to be turned off). Duet Display is a fantastic app that allows me to use my iPad Pro like a pc, while also being able to switch to iPad apps fluently. I can use the Live 10 software in a whole new way. This team is here to stay. I am very impressed by my whole experience with this app/team. Definitely worth the $10 download price. Shout out to Sergio from Support!!

The app is good and the support team is divine. First time i write a review on App Store because i was amazed by the Duet support team. The app worked very well with my iPad 4, which is so obsolete right now it can’t run any other app smoothly. The iPhone screen is quite small to be used as 2nd monitor so i passed on that. So everything is fine as i expected, up until about recently i get stuck at “Launching Duet ...” screen. As a normal human being, i tried FAQs, Google to find answers but there is no working solution. So as a last resort i turned to support, got an automatic reply email and went to bed. The day after that, i found out that they replied literally 5 minutes after that with a few questions and a solution. That didn’t work right away but that just make me wished i asked them sooner. They kept providing me solutions after solutions, we exchanged emails for a week trying everything, they rotate 3 people in to help on my issue. The team is very polite, specifically pointed out every step along the way, never loose patient and always reply within the hour. After all it was a dumb mistake on my part, so everything is working normal again. I have to say i worked with many support teams about many issues including Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Steam, and dozens of app and game developers. This is hands down the best experienced i had working with any team. The app maybe not the best but the team is perfect, and they keep improving with each update.

Sooooo slow with updates. I use a windows 10 laptop along with an iPad Air 2. I’ve had issues with duet display disconnecting frequently while watching videos or surfing the web while using this app, but I just assumed that was due to my slow laptop. Fast forward to early Nov 2017, I got a new laptop with top of the line specs. It worked fine for a few days and then my laptop automatically installed the Creators update. After that, the app just got stuck in “Launching” for the longest time. I emailed tech support and they had me do all these silly things, and after all that they told me, “oh by the way, unfortunately our app is having some issues with the Creators update and so it won’t run right now. We are expecting a fix in a week.” First off, shouldn’t that have been the first thing to ask me instead of having me waste my time collecting “analytics” for the app? And then, to make matters worse, it has been over 2 weeks since the rep told me the fix would roll out in a week. I looked up when the Creators update was first released, and it has been almost 2 months! Does this mean that their engineers have been working diligently for 2 months on this and they still don’t have a fix? Either they are really incompetent or they just don’t care about their Windows 10 customers. Until they become more responsive with their Windows 10 updates, I would stay away from this app, for those of you not using an apple computer.

An award-winner. I was a bit surprised to read the review that called this app a "cash grab". I do agree that the app is not "cheap" but it's also not cheaply written and never seems to crash. It supports use on the Mac and Windows in my testing (probably too much to ask for Linux support!) and does so really well. I've been pleasantly surprised at the performance, too, especially when coding. My primary use case was to eliminate the bulky monitors that previously occupied my desk. I also have to work one day a week at an office where it is not economical to keep a docking setup for any reason. With Duet, I get my dual-monitor setup on TWO retina displays. I'll take that over a cheap 1080p monitor anytime. I have no use for a high-dollar "retina" or equivalent monitor. Even if I found a good one for $500, I am guessing I wouldn't use it for more than 10 years. I'd rather pay for this app annually and not buy a new monitor for my work. And suffice it to say, I'm getting a LOT more use out of my iPad(s).

Too expensive for what it is. This is a pretty useful app all things considered, being able to add on another monitor at a moments notice is pretty nice and it works great for programming. There’s minor bugs with scaling in windows but that’s more to do with windows than this app. The real issues are the subscriptions and performance. The subscription cost is not at all justified given the upfront price of the app. I made the mistake of assuming that a 15 dollar app would be good to go out of the box, but oh boy was I wrong. 15 dollars is already pretty steep but asking for 20 to 30 dollars on top of that just to fix latency with the pencil is exorbitant. The other problem is that performance is just bad. Forget running the iPad Pro at it’s native resolution and don’t even think about 120FPS. With pretty good hardware (i7 and a GTX 1050ti) there was significant lag just moving windows around the display. I’m well aware that a 1050ti is not the cream of the crop when it comes to GPUs, but it can easily push 4K in non GPU intensive workloads and should have no problem with the 11 inch pro display. These performance sacrifices would be fine if this was a 5 dollar app, but for what they’re asking I’m no longer will to settle and make sacrifices, if you’re going to charge for a premium service than I expect to receive a premium service.

Perfect Solution (but now less reliable). Ok, so I could buy a portable monitor for a 100 bucks or more, probably with crappy resolution and no other functionality, or I could spend an insignificant amount of money on a app takes advantage of the equipment I already own and travel with, offers excellent resolution, and no delay. The choice is clear if you need a second screen and you use an iPad. What's even better is that I can switch back and forth from second screen to iOS without a missing a beat! Windows or OSX works great. For me, it is one of the most useful apps in the App Store. My only complaint is that it seems to require a lot of battery power even when the screen is not in use as an extra monitor. My other complaint is that is that I use it on a computer for which I don’t have admin privileges. This means when an update is created (especially one that prevents the program from working in the future) I have to put in a work order and wait to get the update installed. That’s a pain.

Works great for my music gigs.. As a musician, I wanted something that I could slide the chord window, or the lyrics window (or both) to my iPad wirelessly from my laptop, so musicians or singers could use it when sitting in at one of my gigs. This works perfectly for that purpose. I also use it at home as a dual monitor for other things. At first I had trouble connecting, but a couple of emails back and forth to support and I was up and running. It turned out my anti-virus software was interfering with the installation to the laptop. Once I turned it off and reinstalled the program it had no problem connecting from my iPad. The company seems committed to improving their product, so I feel confident in my purchase. For my own situation, I also purchased a portable wireless router that I can use as a home network when away from home so I don’t have to rely on the house connection at a gig, if they even have one. I don’t need internet to run this software, once installed, just a wireless network. I can also hardwire the iPad directly to the laptop.

Better graphics and works when sidecar didn't support "older" Macbook pro. I was hoping sidecar would be amazing for the general use case of having a second display, but it turns out the initial press release so showing it would work with mid 2015 Macbook pro was wrong, so after updating Mac is to Catalina I had to update the duet app on the computer (which was already in existence this early, many tech companies don't immediately support newer operating systems) and I was pleasantly surprised to find the graphics were even better then before! Kudos to duet for keeping up and supporting older devices that Apple cant support for hardware reasons, Duet is still supporting with software and there aren't any delays or latency and the graphics are on point now (it was a little fuzzy when they were doing workarounds from previous Apple software updates). The only thing is the updates on the computer side are not automatic and when you click on check for updates in the application, it shows up to date, but the website has an updated version. Had a brief issue with the touch not working, and sent an email to Duet to try and resolve it and had a response which fixed the issue in less than five minutes. I challenge you to find anywhere with that kind of response time

Not perfect. Now that it is working I think it is a fairly smooth app that will help make my life a little easier when I’m not at home. At home I use a dual monitor setup with both screens at 1080p at 60 Hz with no lag at all. I have been disappointed that I don’t get this same result when I am using duet. The biggest issue I had with the app is that it didn’t work at all at first. The Mac app was completely non functional and doing some things I’d never seen another app do. I couldn’t close the app or click anything on it. In my task manager it didn’t show the app running but I couldn’t delete it because it was open. All of this was very confusing and frustrating so I contacted duet and they were extremely helpful. The person I talked to couldn’t answer all of my questions so she talked to the app developers and after following their directions I got it working. So far I’m happier with the customer service than I am the app and I’m alright with that. It’s for sure worth the $10.

Great app and great support. I have the new Apple MacBook Pro M1. Many programs have not yet been updated to the new architecture. Understandable, but no less inconvenient. I rely on my iPad (5th gen) as my second display, so I sent an email to Duet support inquiring about when I might expect an update. Was surprised to promptly receive a reply that they were working trying to figure out the new hardware. Fast forward to tonight - I receive an email from support with specific detailed info on deleting the old and a link to a new version compatible with the M1. Receiving a follow up email from a developer was a surprise in itself, however, loading the new version and finding it worked was an even greater surprise - I had my iPad as second display again! Now for the bonus surprise...I have read that the M1 only supports one external display and I have been using a 24" external display until I got my iPad display working again so I opened display prefs and found three monitors. I now have my Pro, one 24" external and the iPad display, nice. And with the iPad wirelessly connected, I have an even better setup than before. Am I happy? You bet - happy and impressed with Duet. Once again I can take my new M1 and iPad as my second monitor wherever I go. Duet support is to be commended.

Mac Mini with 3 Monitors At Last. I have a 2012 version Mac Mini, the last version that permitted hardware customization. I’m running it with 16 GB RAM and two drives, one an SSD; all after market add-ons. It’s connected to two 1920x1200 monitors. There are times that I would like to have a third monitor, but that’s not an option. Believe me, I have researched it. Duet Display has provided the 3rd monitor solution, with my iPad Air 2. I regularly research and write. With Word in one window and Excel in another, it’s nice to have access to Safari to check things. It took 5 minutes to set up the location of the iPad screen, by default it was between the two monitors, and set the iPad’s resolution. It was important to set the proper resolution, enough to match 1920x1200 monitors so that I could drag applications to the iPad, but still large enough to be legible. I’m totally delighted with the results. I was not interested in upgrading to a newer Mac Mini, or iMac, because of the cost and the customization limitations. I also prefer discrete monitors rather than creating windows in a high resolution monitor. It’s more comfortable working with two 24” 1920x1200 monitors than even a 27” 5K monitor.

Great product, great support. I have had duet for a couple of years and have used it extensively. First off, it just works and it is very intuitive. I first used it with my windows PC and later when I bought my MacBook Pro. It is fast, with a great response time, as though you’re using a second monitor. I have an ipad air 2, so duet does the trick where Sidecar doesn’t. When I upgraded to Catalina version, duet didn’t work, so I sent a support request and in less than 5 minutes, i received the instructions on how to fix the issue. As expected, the instructions were very simple to follow and the problem was resolved. In my work, I deal a lot with support organizations, and I rarely see personal email with an actual named person from support, so it was a refreshing experience to see an old fashion support person that actually knows how to help you most effectively.

Surprisingly Effective. After uninstalling and missing a few updates, I thought I might reconsider using the Duet Display Pro app to assist with a few current projects. Replacing my Wacom tablet was not a viable option for me due to budget constraints. I have to admit I was quite surprised to see how much the Duet Display Pro app had improved as far as functionality. Previously the pressure sensitivity was not stable enough for my needs and it felt clunky, very slow and cumbersome. Now it is as smooth as silk. The pressure sensitivity is very on point as well. Since I am using the pro version, it also allows me to connect to the desktop wirelessly. So now when I need to work with certain animation and drawing applications, I don’t need to be chained to my desktop computer. Although it is still not as responsive as I would like regarding speed, considering that I can work in a mobile capacity, have accurate pressure response and I don’t have to fork out 2k+ for another Wacom, this suits me just fine. Looking forward to what future updates will bring to the table. I high recommend purchasing the Duet Display Pro app.

Ok here we go. 3D artists beware.. Let me start out by saying this is going To be a 3D Review not a 3D game review. As I find the sketch tools for iPad Pro beyond most of the apps available on my pc and don’t want to play call of duty with it. Works great for low poly refresh on Maya for retopology, or blocking out forms. Snapping points and edges same with zbrush strokes. But notice that when the high version

Duet’s Teleprompter Mode. I use an iPad with a Teleprompter to produce videos with keynote slides. Prior to using duet’s Teleprompter mode I had to extract my notes from a Keynote presentation and paste them one by one into a Teleprompter program, which would flip the notes so they could be viewed on the Teleprompter. This was very time consuming. It was also difficult keeping the notes in sync with the corresponding slide when doing the video presentation. However, with duet’s Teleprompter mode, I can do the video recording using Keynote, which shows the slides on the computer screen and my notes in the Teleprompter format on the iPad. This keeps my notes and the slide in sync during a video recording. It also saves a lot of time not having to cut and paste my notes into a Teleprompter program. This is a BIG help! Thanks.

Just Fantastic. I travel often and always take my Windows laptop and iPad with me. I was looking at buying a portable monitor for my laptop when I came across this app. It really is just fantastic and for $10 (I got it on sale) you can’t go wrong. Setup is super easy and then it just works like any other monitor you would hook up. If I had one complaint, it would be that moving the mouse around on the screen feels a little laggy, which may just be a limitation of the technology and has not really been too bothersome to me. Otherwise, everything else works great. I mostly use the second monitor for a web browser window or to watch Twitch or Netflix. I would definitely recommend this app if you’re looking to make your iPad even more useful especially while traveling. For reference, I have an Alienware m15 laptop and an iPad Pro 10.5”.

Works better than external mobile display. I purchased an Asus mobile monitor with USB c type as all I wanted was another monitor that I could use to compliment my Acer PC laptop. When I got the Asus, I also discovered Duet and was able to use my 12” iPad Pro. For a second, I thought to use the Asus and ipad as a 3 screen, but the two drivers were not working well with each other. I compared the two because it seemed only one of the two would work at the same time. In general, the ipad has a better resolution although it looks slightly grainier. The Asus had worse resolution than the iPad, however, which was extremely limiting with using the web browsers or file explorer. Overall, the stability of Duet was better than the dedicated mobile monitor. Not only that, but I discovered that not only is your ipad a mobile monitor, but the monitor is also touch screen (even though my PC is not). This was really a cool bonus and a deal breaker on which one would stay or go. IF you have an iPad, save the money on an external mobile display and go this route. Save your money for a mesh WiFi system... :-)

When it works it’s great, mostly. I’m currently forced to use my iPad Pro 12.9 as a monitor. But Duet on my Mac Mini seems to forget it’s supposed to work and will sometimes bring up a dialog that requires I press a button to move on. Since I can’t see the screen this means I’m stuck blindly clicking my mouse around trying to find the button I need to press, or take my Mac to find a television to connect to in order to get Duet working again. This is very problematic and frustrating. I don’t think it’s too much to expect that Duet, with my subscription, just works. However, most often I’m stuck frustratingly rebooting, plugging and unplugging my USB cable, clicking blindly, etc. I’ve followed all the steps on the website for this to just work. Sometimes it does. But apparently if I haven’t used it in a couple of days, I get this experience. When it does work, it’s mostly great. It’s limited to 1920x1080 resolution on my iPad. I wish it would use the full display size, but I can do the things I want. One very strange thing is that is appears to buffer what happens on screen. So when I’m doing rendering and come back to it, I have to sit and wait for the buffer to display everything, ie the screen saver, tick through 50 minutes at high speed instead of just giving me the current display. The screen saver just isn’t entertaining to watch while I wait for the display to catch up.

Teleprompting. I’ve been using Duet Display for the last few days as an external display on the Windows PC that I use for zoom calls, teams, etc. It works really well as a tele-prompter screen used in conjunction with the Glide Gear TMP500 teleprompter with one caveat.. the horizontal readout is backwards. This isn’t a problem in my case as I have an additional monitor mirrored which I use to set up calls, once the calls are in progress the quality of the iPad pro screen is awesome, bigger and better than any other screen that i’ve been able to and Duet does a great job at video rendering. It feels like I’m actually talking face to face and able to look the person in the eye. Despite the lack of ability to correct the backwards readout in Duet which would be a killer feature for me and I’d willingly upgrade for, I’m super happy with Duet performance and ability to run over a wired connection. Great job!

Harmful and Frustrating!. Short Version: DO NOT INSTALL THIS APP!!! Full Story: I was super excited when I first installed this on my Windows laptop a couple years ago and put it on my wife’s Mac. It caused significant damage to the Mac and I spent several hours working through the issue and repairing. Ended up having to completely rebuild drives and reload from backups. It corrupted everything. Cut to last few weeks and I am wasting countless hours trying to figure out why my laptop now restarts itself every time it goes to sleep and I lose all my work. I support IT professionally and was pulling my hair out working through possible issues, updating drivers, checking settings. While cataloging my apps in preparation to reformat and reload Windows I come across the long forgotten Duet app. Uninstall and what do you know? My computers wakes instantly now and everything is open just as I left it! I didn’t tally my full hours dealing with both issues, but based on what I get to deal with this stuff professionally I figure these guys owe me $350-$500, easy. I will be happy to edit my review once you tell me where to send my invoice.

Much cheaper than buying a new external display. When my decade old Apple Cinema Display finally lit its last pixel, I thought about buying another external display for my MacBook Pro, which was a year too old to run Apple’s Sidecar. Then I remembered Duet Display. I hooked up my iPad Pro to it, and decided that I don’t need to clutter my desk with a new display after all. I’m a writer and don’t need more than two decent sized screens: one for source/reference material (which I put in Duet), the other for the document I’m writing (which goes on my MacBook screen). Duet and my Macbook give me all the space I need, while still allowing me to cut and paste etc. between documents, websites and emails. And when something went wrong with a recent update, I emailed the help address and got it all sorted in a couple days. (The old version still worked, I just couldnt install the update, so I was able to keep using the app.) I definitely recommend it to anyone who needs more screen space and has an iPad and a Mac but doesn’t necessarily require 20+ more inches of display.

WOW!. I rarely write reviews but this app is better then sliced bread! And it doesn’t even have gluten! When my primary work app recently changed its platform, I found myself no longer working on a 15” laptop screen but actually 2-7,5” screens. It was impossible to be productive so I purchased a separate portable monitor. It tuned out not to be my most prudent investment. Then I thought “hmmmm, can I reverse cast my windows laptop to my iPad?” Googled that concept and found this app. I was hesitant to purchase it but then saw so many positive reviews I decided “what the heck”and spend the $9.99. Set up was easy, connecting was easy although a little slow. But while my iPad screen is still only 9” my email program displays clearly and functions pretty much the same as it does on my 15” laptop. Very happy with it. Also takes up much less space on my small desk. Just hope I don’t run across anymore “in app purchases” though. But all of a sudden my laptop went black... I restarted everything and fingers crossed nothing crashed... I restarted it and now it tells me I need to purchase Duet Air. WHAT??? You’re losing review stars with me already... and it won’t let me minimize the “connect duet air” screen unless I agree to a 1-week trial. This didn’t happen till I signed up for a Duet Account. Not as happy as I was 20 minutes ago.

EXACTLY what I needed, does exactly what it says.. So I normally do not post reviews on the Apple store or get “paid” products, just not my thing. Then I relocated my computers to a smaller desk and realized I no longer had room for my 2nd monitor, with my iPad Pro 12.9 and laptop on the same desk. I looked around and read different ways to make your iPad a 2nd screen on your Windows machine and found Duet Display. after reading several reviews I decided to buy it and try it out. This product is perfect and exactly what I needed. I have my iPad 12.9 on my Magic Keyboard folio sitting next to my laptop. A USB charging cable is connected through the Magic Folio and another USB-C cable connects through the iPad USB-C outlet to my USB plug on my laptop. From there I installed the Windows server piece and the Duet Display app on the iPad and Bamn, just like that it works, flawlessly. Great work, I know working on products in the Apple ecosystem is challenging and this product proves what can be accomplished with talent. Thanks!

Thrilled about this app. I recently found out about this app while doing an illustration project. I work cross platform on a pc at work and my MacBook when working from home. Due to the fact my MacBook was a 2015 model it was at the cutoff for ability to use sidecar. My goal was not so much about screen space but the ability to use my Apple Pencil and my iPad while working on the same project at work and at home. Duet was the answer for me. I initially installed on my windows machine at work which worked great. I had some permissions problems at first with getting to work on my MacBook Pro. Duet support contacted my quickly and Iwas able to resolve the issue. Now I have the ability to complete my project no matter which computer I’m working on. So happy to be able to use my iPad as a drawing tablet. Thank you Duet. MarcG

Excellent Way To Extend Laptop Screen. I have used Duet for 3 years now with Mac and PC laptops, an entry level iPad, and iPad Pro, and two phones, an iPhone 6S and an XS Max. It works perfectly for all of those cases. I mainly use it wired, because it is alway instantly responsive that way, but recently I did purchase the Pro subscription that allows wireless screen sharing, and it works well and I like it for getting the cord out of the way, though every now and then the partner display gets a little behind. I chose Duet over Sidecar for the wired connection, and because I can use it on my work laptop which has a different Apple ID than my iPad. Neither are possible with Sidecar. Duet also has excellent customer support! I had a technical issue and the technical staff worked over the weekend to get my system working properly: I sent an email of Friday evening and heard back the same day, and after asking for logs, they had a solution for me on Saturday morning.

Disappointing. I was excited for this app at first because it allowed me to work on adobe cc products right on to my iPad Pro 2018. I upgraded to pro and hoped for the best. It works... as in yes it will let me use this as another monitor on my windows pc but the crashing is unbearable. The duet app doesn’t launch on my pc so i have no control over minor settings. The worst part about it all is how it will crash over and over breaking my workflow. It crashed 4 times in 3 minutes once and that was the breaking point for me. I decided to use it as a separate display on my MacBook Pro and it was far too laggy even with adjusted settings. The good thing that this app is good for is mirroring the display and allowing me to work like that. It also incorporates the Apple Pencil very well. While my MacBook is only two years only and should be able to run a second monitor fine, the rating comes from the nearly unusable experience on windows. It’s a shame for this to have so much potential and fall short. Hopefully it will get fixed and i can update my rating.

Better and cheaper than Astropad.. Initially this app has some weird issues when used over WiFi. The featureset was different and the on-screen control Overlay at the bottom of the screen was not dismissible, causing it to block the windows taskbar. All I did was tweet at them and they fixed the issue and pushed the fix to their production environment in less than a week! They even asked me to contact their support email in reply to my tweet and I didn’t because I’m honestly just jaded when it comes to developers telling me to open a ticket as it’s almost always a waste of time. This is NOT the case here. Their support is very proactive and acted in my issue despite me not even doing my part to properly outline the issue in a support ticket. Very impressed. And they saved me tons of money that I almost spent on Astropad. Astropad is a good app but the price is so outlandish that there is no comparison between the two. Go with Duet.

Does what it’s supposed to do.... I use this program with my iPad and HP Zbook workstation. I’m a graphic designer and love using my pen for everything. However the pen that came with the Zbook has wavy lines, so i wanted something more stable, in steps the iPad. My iPad combined with Duet makes it possible to use the Adobe apps that I need to and still use my pen. There is not a lot of lag at all when drawing and using the pen. I have used it in Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator with no problems. I still need to test a few other adobe apps. The reason for the 4 stars is that in order for me to do this I had to also tack on the pro version, and this whole pay $30 a year or month crap with everything now days is very draining. Between the full adobe suite and everything else I need for my job alone its a big drain on my money (I make less then 40k a year atm). All and all I do like the app just don’t like the extra pay it cost, but when I get my MacBook for school (going back so I can have more opportunities) and the new screen Share thing it has, the “what the hell ever its called”. I’ll probably dump this when that works well enough.

New duet user. Happy and impressed. I recently got a new MacBook Air and I have a old iPad laying around. I searched online and found out about duet. I liked the idea of being able to use the iPad as a second monitor because it is also portable and battery powered. I downloaded the app and the laptop program and I was excited to get started. The program was a little more complex to get installed on the computer than just downloading and going. The instructions were very good though so I didn’t have any issues. I have to be honest I was a little frustrated because the program didn’t work at first. I have a laptop with the M1 chip and apparently it wasn’t supported yet. I assumed this might be the case so I reached out to tech support. They knew exactly what I was talking about and told me I would have to wait because it was still in development. The very next day they sent me a beta version to see if the M1 update worked and I have been very happy since then. It’s nice to have a tech department that is upfront and honest. They have been great to work with and the program itself works great. I now have a use for my old iPad instead of throwing it away! I will be considering duet for more uses going forward after my first experience for sure.

Definitely your best option to display your Desktop to iOS.... I’ve been using Duet Display for over 4 years now and I can say that it’s gotten better over time as far as stability. I’ve also done beta testing in the past. Whenever I had an issue, support has done a good job at resolving each concern I had. I really like being able to extend my desktop to my iOS devices to mirror or use as a display with touch control. I’ve tried many apps with similar features. But for the price of Duet Display, none of them come close. I also enjoy the Touch Bar, which is an added bonus. I used it to control Adobe Premiere a few days ago and Ableton. Wow, I have more editing control that will allow me to use my cursor much less. I would like to suggest that Duet Display provide more demos and clearer instructions on the different types of products they have from the start. It seems to be all over the place. I contacted support and they were able to give me clarity, which was good.

A complete game changer for the iPad.. This app has changed how I use my ipad. I used to only expect to use it for reading music and watching movies and games, but with this app, suddenly I have a second portable moniter to take anywhere I want. I have the larger ipad pro which means that the screen is actually bigger than my laptop screen. I use it every simgle time I use my laptop, which means I now use my ipad multiple times a day. I do web development so having a second moniter (even at Starbucks!) means I can actually do my work effectively. Now, I gave 4 stars out of 5 because this app does have some problems connecting - I often get the error on Windows that "the last device connected has malfunctioned." It used to mean a lot of hassle, but with the latest patch it's not so bad. It just means I have to stop the app, reconnect the ipad, and it usually works on the second time. I figure these issues will work out over time and I will certainly notice them because I use the app so much. Thank you for adding this amazing functionality to the ipad! Like I said, it's a total game changer. ... about a month later, I'm still having issues with connecting. It works about 50% of the time. I often have to try multiple times or restart my ipad. Unfortunately I've had to move my rating down to 3 start, hopefully they will fix these issues and then I will be back to a 5 star rating!

Works better than I thought it would!. Firstly, I am very impressed that customer support wrote me back within just a few hours of me writing them. I had an issue getting Duet to work. It turns out I had a VERY old (several years) client on my Mac, and just needed to uninstall and then download the new one. Once I did that, it worked perfectly. I do a lot of music production/practicing, and my digital keyboard is fairly far from my computer. I place my ipad above the piano and am using Duet to run Mac piano learning software. It makes it super easy because I dont have to swivel back and forth to the computer every time I want to do something - I can just touch or use the Apple Pencil. The software sometimes has video, and it is completely smooth. I even tried looking for hiccups or frame drops and I couldn’t find any. I’m blown away. Thank you!!!!

Works better than expected on older iPad. I have an older iPad 3 (first Retina display one), and this product seems to work better than I thought it would. At first, I had troubles getting it working and thought it was going to be a dud app, but after getting used to the interface and app (and turning off AirPlay for it and just having it go thru USB/30 pin), it started to grow on me as a really useful tool. The site says "lag free", so I would not go THAT far, but it's smooth enough for me to use for work to extend my little MacPro monitor with (I think the creators expect that your using it with a newer model, but it does work with older). It went all day without a single issue, and made me so much more productive while I was working at hotel. It breathes some more usefulness into my 7 year old iPad that still chugs away! One thing - my iPad didn't charge (maybe newer this isn't an issue), but all day use still left me with about 1/2 battery, which was great. Great app.

Guess I should have read further. The description sold me when it said that I could use my iPad as a professional drawing tablet. Had I read further I would have seen that it takes another $25 a year to do that. I understand they will have continued development costs for iOS updates, new hardware and such. I don’t think in-app purchase abilities should be listed with the app description, for any app. Make a separate description are clearly titled “in-app purchase enables:” but that is an apple gripe on how they should re-organize App Store descriptions. In their defense it is labeled as duet and duet pro so that should have been my first clue. The duet app works as advertised giving my dual monitor setup a 3rd screen with touch. Duet pro has a 1 week free trial so I guess I will see how that works. Edit: Does not work as a graphics tablet with photoshop and Apple Pencil. First off you drag the whole photoshop window to the iPad “monitor” then work in Photoshop from there. I drew as curvy line and all I got was a line from near the bottom left to where my line stopped. I erased and tried again and got nothing. Keep working devs maybe I’ll try it again next year.

Quit advertising the subscription plan. First off, the app and software itself is excellent. It does exactly what’d you’d expect and it does it pretty darn seamlessly. Though I don’t appreciate constantly being reminded to buy a subscription plan. I’ve already paid $20, if I wanted a subscription plan I’d seek it out. I mean, after logging in on the website the first thing you’re greeted with are the options for which plan you should purchase even after paying for the app. I have to click around and search longer than I should while trying to find the download .exe when installing it on my computer. On the app itself you can’t alter any of your account settings either. The only way to access your account settings is to click a link on the app and guess where it redirects you, right back to website asking you what subscription you want! Even when logged into the website the only options when you click on account settings are “Logout” and “Current Plan.” At least give me the option to change my email and password. Really frustrating.

So much better than Sidecar. I've been using Duet for ages. Now that Catalina is out I thought I could replace this third party app with Sidecar. I could not have been more wrong about it! Sidecar works... sometimes. For no apparent reason it refuses to start at all, disconnects randomly or – my favorite bug – displays everything squashed, like someone forced the aspect ratio to be 16:4. No amount of rebooting devices, reconnecting to WiFi or praying to the IT gods seems to fix it. All the while Duet just works. Connect the iPad, screen's up. So simple. Every time Sidecar failed, ie every day the past month, I just launched Duet and I had a second screen. Flawless! Duet also seems to be more responsive than Sidecar and has more options for resolution, performance vs visual clarity and refresh rates. These are irrelevant with my iPad Pro but they made a great deal of sense when I had an older iPad Air 2 until a year and a half ago. Dropping the frame rate to 30 and putting settings to medium made it very responsive for me. Apple did a poor job at copying Duet – in typical Cupertino feature copying fashion. I think I’ll stay with the original. Thank you to the Duet developers! You are the saviors of my productivity when I am not at my multi monitor office setup. With the Covid-19 quarantine this is basically my every day now so a big, massive THANK YOU is in order.

Tried to like it. Update: Im giving this 2 stars because of their customer support was great and responsive. Their app just didnt work for me. So I thought I save others time I have an ipad pro 2020 and a macbook 2015 and I kept getting lags and very pixelated resolution no matter what I tried The lag was the worse I was willing to pay 20 a year but got frustrated like why am I trying to make an app work and pay money. I dont know what the hiccup is but I found another app to work smoothly and its Screens4 maybe this app can work for older ipads but if you have a newer one you may get the same lag issues It was beyond unworkable and just couldnt anything done I really want to support ex apple workers since I figured they would know the hardware personally but I was wrong Great customer service though We already know we can go the free route with Sidecar but I really wanted to give this a try mainly for the Remote Desktop option because Sidecar doesn’t offer that. There is sooooo much lag, makes me feel like I’m stuck in the past with a slow connection It’s bad can’t even click on things on my iPad, cant get anything done and than the resolution is horrible. It looks blurred out and hurts my eyes I was willing to pay the 20 or 30 a year but why am I going to stress myself and pay for something when Apple offers it for free and works I really wanted to like this and support Maybe it’s the 13.5 update, maybe it’s the app itself idk but gosh it just doesn’t work

Great app!!. Since the pandemic began, I have been able to work remote. I also work from home during the weekends. Desperately need a second monitor but have very limited space. I have a Surface Pro 7 with a 12” screen and an iPad Air 4. They are basically the same size so they look great side by side. With Duet, I am able to use my iPad as a secondary monitor! I am so grateful for this app. There is no lag in my mouse. I think maybe in an earlier version there was some but not any more. The only reason I gave a 4 star and not 5 is because if for any reason I unplug my iPad, it won’t reconnect unless I totally shut down all apps on my pc and restart. I always need about a dozen file explorer and app Windows open. Tried everything including launching iTunes, but nothing reconnects without a reboot. Thank you Duet!! I will endorse your product to everyone.

BEST APP. This is legit the best app. As an artist I was trying to figure out which drawing tablet I wanted to invest in. Upon hours and hours of research I couldn’t find one in my price range that has a screen, could be portable and also works with my PC. I ended up purchasing a new 2018 IPad Pro and a second generation Apple Pencil. Upon my purchase I installed this app immediately. With the pro version of this app plus a USB cord I was able to connect my PC (not Mac) to my iPad. While displaying my PC screen to my IPad I’m able to use everyday programs like photoshop and illustrator with absolutely no lag. I can sketch, edit, vector and touch up my work with ease and no gloves are needed like a lot of other drawing tablets. This app also has a remote wireless feature that does have a little bit of lag but allows me to work around my house if I need. I rarely ever write reviews but this app has helped me out so much I wanted to leave my two cents hoping to help out other artist who are in a similar situation. Duet Display deserves 5 stars hands down and has been nothing but an enjoyable experience!!!

Used to be perfect, now gone downhill. This app used to be a fantastic alternative for older iPads that aren’t supported by macOS native screen mirroring. Set up used to be a breeze, and performance was excellent. However, now, with the latest round of updates, duet display has really taken a nose dive to the point where I’ve had to uninstall it. The initial relaunch after the latest update prompts to enable performance mode for wireless connections. Keep in mind that the wireless functionality is locked behind a subscription which I have no intention of subscribing to, however, there is no option to skip the performance mode installation and attempting to do so locked me in a password prompt loop. Once I managed to get past that, I was greeted with a forced account sign up before I can detect my iPad, even though it’s connected via a cable. Why do I need to sign up for an online account to detect a locally connected device using an app I’ve already purchased? The whole experience reeks of frustrating steps and hoops to jump through just to perform the simple task of using my iPad as a second display. The older version of duet display had none of these issues. Sadly, I now must look elsewhere.

May inhibit other functionality on you computer. I bought Duet to use my iPad as a small second screen for when I’m running Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) on my computer. FSX ran perfectly before installing the Duet Windows program, which is necessary to work in concert with this Duet app during connection. After installing Duet, FSX now refuses to load citing a “failure to meet minimum shader support requirements”. If I deinstall the Duet software, then FSX works perfectly again. I’ve put in a help request to see if they can resolve it. If they can, then I’ll come back and alter my rating to a 5 star. If they can’t or won’t help then the rating drops to a 1 star since I just paid $10 for an app I’ll never be able to use for my intended purpose. It would have been nice if they had a “demo” version available of the app so that you could ensure it would work for you before you actually buy it. I will say, there is a lot of appeal for an app like this. I am military working overseas, so can’t simply buy and/or carry around a second monitor. However, the idea of being able to use a tablet that I’m already carrying around is excellent, if they can just get all these bugs worked out.

So close to perfect. I love this so close to perfect. Had some minor issues with the server app. Both Mac and Windows it won't let me set the resolution to match the iPhone 4/4s. This seems to be causing some display issues when using them. I'd also really like the windows and Mac editions to have the same user experience and options. The only other thing I can think of is support for more than one device at a time and to be able to use it over wifi. I know you went sub to avoid the issues of competitors but it would be nice as an option.

Great product. Works as advertised. I Used to use MacBook pro with separate keyboard and touchpad with 2 monitors. Now use MacBook Pro up on a stand with an iPad 12.9 pro also up on a stand. Great to be able to adjust scaling and performance to suite the limited processing power of my older (2012) Mac. Prefer non retina and hi FPS in the iPad to get satisfactory response. With wrong settings or too much going on on the Mac, it does get too slow but know how to rectify. Great product

A very good product. Duet works exceptionally well it links both wired and wirelessly with ease and the response with both connections is smooth. Recently I have use duet as a second external monitor and had a good experience. However, I am using a second generation IPad which may be the reason there are occasional lock ups. Overall a very good application.

Best app I’ve purchased in 2020. I’ve been looking for a while for portable 2nd monitor to accompany my notebook. Thought about purchasing one of hese fancy gadgets that attach to the notebook itself. However, never thought about turning my iPad into a 2nd monitor until I researched and came across the Duet app. It’s been fantastic, and works well connected to a windows PC. The only small criticism is that I need to open iTunes on my windows notebook to trigger the connection. Also, if my PC goes into sleep mode, I will need to close and re-start Duet app on my PC. Otherwise all other features are fantastic!

Anyone want a touchscreen Mac? Duet is your solution!. I have used Duet for over two years now, and it has truly been an amazing experience. From the streamlined experience to the features you can’t get on some iPads and Mac (such as the Touch Bar, and Sidecar), Duet is truly a must have for anyone who has an iPad and Mac. Furthermore, many people have wanted a touchscreen Mac. Not available with Apples Sidecar, touchscreen is permanently enabled when using Duet. And better still, with a subscription to Duet Air, you iPad officially becomes a 2 in 1 - a Mac with a touchscreen that you can take anywhere in the office or home (so long as your Mac is awake in another room). And if you encounter any issues, the Duet team had always been very helpful! This feature of you Mac becoming an iPad (or an iPad with macOS) has so many helpful uses, from zoom calls, to taking study notes. Duet is truly a solution for those who want to carry their Mac around the office (like an iPad), showing their work to a supervisor, or anyone in general who has asked for macOS to come to the iPad.

This is the best app I have ever owned. Actually amazing it works flawlessly between my PC and iPad being a streamer that only has one screen monitoring my stream can be a little hard at times but not anymore. My iPad was even charging the entire time it was plugged in. You guys have done great work this app is easily worth double the cost EASILY THE BEST APP

Give your iPad “gainful employment”. It needn’t be playtime always for your ever-present iPad - all Surface Pro people like me (Surface Pro 6) who use the iPad for leisure activities only, can now put it to work as a second screen to your Windows computer. In my legal work with document preparation, in a paperless office, I can’t have too many screens. I look at a source document on one screen, and work on my amendments to it on another screen, while keeping up with my emails on a third screen - that’s my minimum. After discovering the brilliant Duet Display App, I have now seamlessly added my trusty iPad Pro 11” to the array, into it and out of it effortlessly - I urge you to get Duet Display, if you have an iPad currently “resting up”, so it can join you and your Windows computer, hard at work.

Much improved, if you have new iPad Pro and good PC. Im now using a Ryzen 2700 with loads of ram and the newest iPad Pro, and everything works well when I set the iPad as the primary monitor and then duplicate my displays in windows. Otherwise no dice. But in this setup it works wirelessly with Toon Boom when you turn gesture controls on, which is pretty amazing. My Ryzen and iPad Pro are finally powerful enough to do all this.

Doesn’t work and tech team impossible to get hold of.. Don’t bother! I tried multiple iPads, cables and wifi connections to get this to work. Have all the most recent operating systems, iPad and PC. I managed to get it to mirror over a wifi connection, but wasn’t able to get it to function as an extend screen. Contacted the tech support on multiple occasions and kept getting the same set of questions asked and no one actually offering to help. After wasting 2 days trying to get help I’ve given up and cancelled my subscription.

FALSE “FREE TRIAL” they will charge you anyway. BEWARE!! this is one of those developers who claim to give you a “free trial” but even when you cancel ON TIME they will charge you anyway. And I am not the only one, they did the same to my husband. I wrote to them, they asked for evidence and gave it to them and then made me go around in circles asking why I was leaving and to give them feedback, etc, etc. just elongating a reimburse of money they shouldn’t have been taken anyway. Worst of all, I don’t even have access to the service anymore, which I obviously don’t want after such a nightmare of experience. Such a shame! I demand my money back!

Windows 10 laptop with iPad Pro. This an update since April which I haven’t used. Tried again by downloading software on PC . Was black screen. This was fixed by restarting my iPad Pro. Works fine , responsive and at the recommended resolution , touch works fine too . It’s not super clear but enough to work on . I be using this when I am on the Road. Using the cheaper wired version, the app talks about wireless in default screen but this is not enabled .

Great App, Great Support Team. The app was performing great until the desktop client began crashing my laptop. The support rep that I talked to was one of the most friendly people I’ve talked to in tech support and was able to provide me a solution in a timely manner for the problem. Duet Display as an app is very smooth and is the best app of its kind.

Unusable as i can ONLY mirror displays. I purchased this with the hope of using my iPad as an extended display. But I can only use this as a mirrored display which is not what i need it for. I’ve contacted support, which have been great at responding, however this cannot be fixed. I was then told if i wanted a refund to go through the App Store. The App Store only gives me an option to seek a refund if the app did not install, no options to seek a refund if the app is not working as intended. If you’re happy to use it as a mirror display then this is ok, otherwise save your money.

A Waste. I got this app and the adjacent pc software in the hopes that it would work well enough to be used as a drawing tablet. I had read a fair share of reviews saying it was a great tool for artists and a “must have” but it hasn’t lived up to the acclaim. I am unable to draw details and if the line isn’t long enough it opens a settings table, the screen becomes extremely small when duplicated to the iPad and doesn’t work at all if the screen is halved between the two, there is no real way to alienate a tab or application. Its difficult to work on with excessive lag and a blatant lack of pen pressure, which I can understand, I wasn’t expecting a Cintiq Pro out of a cheap app but I was hoping for something that was a little more salvageable. If you’re looking for a work space this would be great for you, if you’re an artist stick to real drawing tablets.

Would be lost without Duet Display. Great product that works seamlessly using my 13" HP laptop and iPad Pro 12.9. Proper dual screen and no noticeable lag with USB connection even over Horizon VDI session. Even works through a dock on my desktop to provide a fourth screen - but can't work out why I need one 🙄. Just got a new laptop and had a connection issue which turned out to be our corporate security problem but support from Duet was excellent and followed up to ensure all was OK.

Suddenly, subscription! =(. I have been using this since 2019. I have a prepetual license AFAIK all for $15. I only use this occasionally so it is important that things work when I need it. To my suprise, when launching to app today, I was prompted to pay a subscirption fee monthly, each month it cost as much as my original purchase cost back the. When trying to create an account, Cloudflare human verification displayed failed message every 4 seconds and I am unable to create an account. This is disappointing to say the least and made one very upset.

NOT an app for artists.. After hours of trial and error, Duet was still incapable of allowing the Apple Pencil to do more than one stroke (completely without pressure sensitivity) before switching to the mouse and not recognising the pencil. Basically impossible to draw with. If all you want is a second monitor for your iPad, then it does the job. But it is extremely disappointing for using as a graphics tablet. I regret buying this app as it it useless for what I needed. I would suggest investing in the cheapest display graphics tablet you can find for your PC, it would still do much better than this app attempts.

Great app, great support. I recently purchased Duet for my Flight Sim and music studio apps. I initially had some issues with iTunes and Duet causing some conflicts. However, after contacting the support team I was pleasantly surprised with the follow up. The team at Duet responded immediately and a couple of emails later, problem solve. This app is fantastic but the follow up I received made the small investment worth the purchase. -well done and thank you Vachi!

Needs another update to regain its greatness!. I have really benefited from using Duet to link my iPad as a second monitor for N.Y. windows laptop, until this week. I’m sure the recent problems are caused by the latest iPadOS update. Now the mouse lags and is jumpy and the app crashes frequently. The latest Duet update helped somewhat with the mouse issues, but Duet still crashes. Another update to solve that would be much appreciated.

Exactly the app I needed. Duet enables the use of my iPad air as a second display for my MacBook Pro. I wanted the extra screen real estate of a second monitor in a portable format and I was put onto this by a friend. The extended display allows me to be working on a full screen app and have both IM and email running visible alongside. I am using the standard version and get no lag using a standard USB lightning cable and USB-C dongle ... if I wanted to use the additional input of something like an iPad Pro (maybe soon), I would jump on the Duet Air subscription, but for now the standard version does the trick.

Perfect travel companion. I travel a lot for business. I have taken small monitors with me, purchased monitors, borrowed monitors, and tried USB monitors. Nothing compares to Duet. I have an iPad Pro and a windows 10 Surface Book pc. It works perfectly! And it got even better when I found the option to set the resolution via the Duet icon in the windows hidden icons tray. Seriously, if you think you may want a second monitor, buy Duet (I have no business affiliation).

Amazing hack for the mobile worker. I love the functionality of being able to carry around my iPad and laptop and have a instant second screen anywhere I am! While the wifi version is good, the cabled connection is excellent and seamless. I recently had an issue with aspect ratios and the tech team instantly fixed it and released a new update, very impressive!

Apple Pencil support is a lie. I tried this out after reading about claims you can use an iPad as a drawing tablet in photoshop. Couldn’t get photoshop to work but when I got another drawing program to work, the lag was just unbelievable. It’s not suitable for drawing in any way. “lighting fast” is a flat out lie, you have wait for the line you just drew to appear on your canvas a second later. I can see this being useful in some ways but if you’re looking for a method of getting photoshop onto your iPad then this is not your solution unfortunately

Causes many issues on Windows 10. The basic functionality works well in windows 10, however duet has many incompatibility issues. Many apps and games do not run or will crash with duet installed on Windows 10 (appears to be something to do with direct X). It has also caused blue screens after quitting the app and running another app. Would not recommend for Windows 10 users.

Brilliant App and Excellent Support. Recommended. Best app I have bought. Great for turning an iPad into a second monitor for laptop. In my case, I am using it to recycle an old, unused iPad as a third monitor, which has increased my productivity significantly. Easy to use and reliable, and the support team are quick to respond if there are any queries.

Touch screen feature taken away from early adopters. When I first bought Duet Display years ago (for 2 screens & touch screen features), I was able to use it as a drawing tablet (with my Mac), now the feature has been taken away. I can only get it back if I pay for subscription. This is very disappointing, the developer should give early adopter the touch screen feature. After all, without early adopters, the company may not have survive until now. With touch screen taken away, so I reduce it to 3 stars. In addition to that, I found the app has a tendency of crashing, I minus 1 more star. Hence only worth 2 stars as of today.

Problems Sorted. Had an issue, the iPad would not connect as second screen, contacted the team, response quick. Process a little convoluted but it worked. Great to have the confidence that if there is a problem the Duet team are there to help. Issue was latest windows 10 updated ok but Nividia drivers did not update, updated , resynced iTunes and away we go👍👍👍👍👍

Essential and Effortless. I've been using Duet for over a year now and it has become as essential to me as the operating system itself. It's ease of use is effortless; once setup – you're done. It allows me to make great use of my long forgotten, out of date iPad which, is now my teleprompter screen. Duet is incredibly reliable and a great price. I'd highly recommend it to anyone – and frequently do!

Do not buy if you have a PC. I’m sure this works fine on Mac but this a has caused me no end of trouble on the PC over the time I have used this app and across the various updates the desktop software has at versions times broken VR, graphics acceleration in all programs, my entire suite of adobe programs, an array of games depending on the display technology used and even google chrome. Clearly development of this for windows and they should really just drop support if they can’t make it work. It’s a shame since the tools they have are very good but that can’t save a failed implementation of the core technology.

Poor poor poor for pc - crashes windows. 1. Install software : restart : windows crashes on start up. Reset windows to older previous version and delete duet software. 2. Install duet software again : shut down pc this time (not restart). Start up, windows loads, duet won’t work. Chose restart windows. Windows crashes again on restart when starting up. Reset windows to older previous version and delete duet software and windows works fine again. Yes I have read help section of duet website regarding windows 10, I downloaded the correct and current duet software.

Perfect for when I’m on the road. My wife and I are often on the road and feel hamstrung when only operating on one screen, so when I discovered Duet I was super excited as we also had a couple iPad Pros which have approximately the same size screen as our Surface Laptop. We ran via cabled connection initially which ran perfectly, but the iPad didn’t charge so it went flat after a while. I then worked out that I could buy the Air upgrade so I could charge and work at the same time. Initially we hot-spotted both the iPads and laptops and found it really slow. So I reached out to support and got a super quick response for some things to try. It’s now behaving perfectly both via our home wireless network and when hot-spotting. Having the ability to easily transport a “second screen” by way of an iPad is simply awesome and the support assistance is just the icing on the already sweet cake.

Update Caused Crash. I have only used this a few times with my macbook pro and ipad pro. However the latest update resulted in my mac book pro not loading when I needed it for work and caused much headache and wasting of time while I had to search online how to fix the problem. I ended up having to load my mac book pro in single user mode (command-S) and imbed these commands just to get access to my computer again. Its a shame that the developers did not iron out any problems before releasing updates especially when it comes to affetcing my work

Causes crashes on PC, non-refundable. Having the app installed is causing crashes to occur whenever I try to run games developed by Paradox (seems to have something to do with using Intel integrated graphics). When I tried to get a refund on the app one day later, I was told the app is “ineligible for refunds”. This experience has undermined my confidence in casually buying apps in future. I can’t give this app anything more than one star if having it installed in any capacity (not just when it’s running, and not just when it runs on startup - the only way I stopped the crashes was by removing the app completely) on my PC is causing crashes.

launching duet error. After setting everything up for application to be get started on my ipad and macbook pro i keep getting stuck at “launching duet” page. after spending hours on reading different articles to fix it but i couldn’t. Even subscribed to pro version to check if it would work but problem was still there.

Great app that works with Windows. With the whole work from home thing, I was looking for a way to have a second monitor with my iPad on Windows. After searching online, I came across recommendations for Duet Display and decided to give it a try. And I am very glad that I gave the app a chance despite the premium price. So far it’s been working pretty great as a portable second monitor for my laptop. There is some very slight lag when moving between screens but I guess it’s pretty good considering this is working via app and costs a tiny fraction of a portable monitor. So if you are looking for a way to make your iPad double as a monitor for your Windows computer, look no further! Highly recommended.

Great follow up with help. Great App that increases the benefit of having an iPad Pro. Allows me to use the iPad as a second screen for my Windows laptop. I had difficulty with not being able to change to other apps on the iPad without getting a black screen on Duet. The technical team solved the problem and it is back to working well.

Perfect for me. Have been using Duet for a couple of years, Duet works well with my HP laptop and my IPAD. I use my iPad as a second screen. Don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have Duet..... well I do, I would have to spend hundreds. Duet support are also very prompt and helpful. Had to contact them as I couldn’t reset my password, they took no time in getting back to me with a solution. So there you have it Duet is very recommended by me, thank you.

Returning to duet results in black screen?. The current versions of both duet for the ipad and windows seem to have an issue in that when returning to duet on the ipad (ios13.2), can only see a black screen. Forcing a close of duet (which resets all the window positions on windows) and then having to re-open. This wasnt an issue before and could return just fine to duet from other apps and everything worked perfectly... Fix soon please??

On the go or at the office. I am using the app at the office as a 3rd screen or on the go with my laptop as a second screen! I had some issue to get the app to work on Windows 10, but with the latest version and a outstanding customer support everything is working perfectly! Highly recommend if looking for a extra monitor!

Pretty good!. Was a bit annoying to set up but now I’m really happy with how it all works. It’s saved me from having to buy a second monitor. Not so keen on the subscription model though, there’s not enough enough to revamp each year in the program to warrant it which makes it appear like a money grab. Someone else will come out with a cheaper version and under cut them hopefully.

Works poorly for pc monitor. The app seemed to work fairly well out of the box, however, I pretty quickly noticed there was a usability breaking issue. Even with the highest resolution set, the mirrored display is extremely blurry. When it’s sitting idle, the screen gets even more blurry. It’s pretty much unusable for me at this point. As an aside, it would also be nice if Duet could add a scaling option as well. When I have the screen on a nice high resolution (which is disappointingly pointless anyway) the icons are absolutely tiny.

A bit fiddling, otherwise excellent.. When I came down to work on my projects on my PC using this app on my new iPad Air, I knew we had a winner. The controls for Apple Pencil is outstanding but when I try to write or draw, I usually rest my pencil holding hand on the screen, which moves the display or makes a mess on my work, which can display my final result inconsistently. There really should be an Apple Pencil touch only setting like what Adobe Draw has. Otherwise, fantastic app always! 😁

A great product which I own but now I don’t.. Yep. Another software company going to a subscription model after I purchased the app outright. Yes it’s great. Etc etc. yes it allows a wide range of uses or whatever the stock answer I’m going to receive to this view form the developers is. Fact is I bought the product outright. With the low cost of touch screen monitors now it’s cheaper and easier to go with a reliable piece of hardware. I know my review is going to make zero difference to anyone else’s decision to purchase, and that’s absolutely fine. But I’ve had my say, I’ve assigned my star, and I’m looking forward to my stock answer, chockers with the usual Silicone Valley weasel words about how their business, built on venture capital and smoke and mirrors, turned out to not be profitable so they had to change their business model or go broke or something or other. Sorry I meant pivot! 🙄

Excellent App, professional support, highly recommended. The App is just what I needed. I can now write on iPad with an Apple Pencil and mirror it on my MacBook Air, very useful for online lectures. Had some problems installing it, but Duet support team answered my question promptly and so clearly that I managed to make it all work in a matter of seconds. Was very impressed by the way they care for the customers. Highly recommended!

Optimised my productivity. Really enjoy this app. I have an old MacBook Pro (late 2013) and it doesn’t offer Sidecar feature. I purchased a cheap USB A to USB C cable to hook up my MBP and iPad Pro and essentially my iPad is now a 2nd screen + a mini laptop of it’s own (I have my iPad mouse + keyboard combo going on)! Working perfectly in this Apple ecosystem. Be advised that the app purchase doesn’t include wireless connection, this is an add-on feature by monthly subscription.

Excellent service. I had an issue using the app with my old MBA. I contacted support and they gave me satisfactory work around using an older version on the OSX app. Then then some weeks later they got back to me with a new version of the OSX app which works perfectly for me. Fast, smooth mirroring and extended screen at maximum resolution. Very happy with the product and the service.

Product good but App Store terrible. I tried to cancel the one week trial on the Air upgrade about five days in. Not possible via the website and none of the Apple-supplied links to Cancel the trial/ Manage Subscriptions actually resolve. Almost two weeks later, obviously the CC has been charged and I am still unable to successfully cancel the unwanted product. (I decided that a cable was more reliable.) That annoyance aside, the base-level product has been brilliant value and the responsiveness of their people has been very good too. It would be better if it was actually possible to cancel a trial.

Amazing support - Great app. Recently, Duet updated the OSX version. This update caused Duet on the iPad 2 to drop out. Unable to find any FAQs to answer my problem, I sent Duet support an email. The next day, due to timezone differences, I had a reply with suggestions to fix. This continued for a week or two with Duet suggesting a workaround after their development team investigations. Then myself sending an update on how well it worked or didn't. Finally, they delivered a fix that eliminated the problem. I can highly recommend their support to attend to issues quickly and consistently to their customer's satisfaction. I also highly recommend the app. It allows me to use my old iPad Mini 2 as a third screen. Ideal when on video calls and able to have the other party's face on the screen next to the camera.

Just what I wanted! Very good!. Love this app, works just as expected. Had a problem with setting up the app (because I reformatted my pc) and the support team assisted right away (got my first reply in about an hour!) This app is good as it provides another functionality for your iPad, which may just be lying around, not doing much (mine was). Thanks again!

Can work okay, laggy and little value added. I did eventually get it to work. I didn’t find the setup too intuitive, but it wasn’t too bad and I was able to get it working. It seems okay as just a second display. It was kind of cumbersome. It’s use cases... like for whiteboard... are limited. And the app tries to upswell you for more expensive options. It’s value on my device, relative to Apple’s Sidecar and other apps, seem unclear. I paid before I realized many of the features I wanted were in much more expensive versions.

Not happy guy. I was trying to support duet. As I use my iPad with sidecar with my macs. I though why not get the app and use it with my old MacBook Pro . Just to find out after. If you want wireless is an extra 39.00. What a waist of time and money. Now I am out 14.00$ CAD

Seamless. Worked excellent from the first time I used it. Good product support when I had an issue with login. Go for the lifetime purchase, it’ll be worth it.

Blow the dust off the old iPad 2!. I do have a newer iPad mini, and after a few goes with duet I was sold with the idea! Then I got the idea to try the old iPad second gen. I was disappointed that the app said I needed ios10. Thats when I got an email from duet to see how I like the app. I expressed my desire to use the old iPad and they directed me to tutorial to get the older version of the app. Since then my iPad 2 is back in action! Awesome customer support and great product. *picked up a little picture frame easel from the dollar store and my fuel screen setup is complete.

Love it but…. To make it a five star I would make it so that you could adjust the resolution to a specific one because right now the paid version of “yam display” is a way better deal then this

Great product and support. I am using duet since 2018, today I download latest version of duet for Mac, it is not connect anymore, after one email communication, they helped me downgrade to one previous version, it solve the issue. thanks.

I like but. I transferred my iPad to my new phone with iCloud. I think I have the iPad version of the app and even after deleting and getting it again my display is messed up and looks ugly. Other than that the app was fine so, someone please help me.

Customer service is horrible. I sent not one, but two emails to their support online and never got an email back. They state on the website that the average response time is two hours but it’s really not. I paid for this only to be let down.

Asking for too much, and didn’t work. Upfront cost plus a subscription cost for pro features is asking for too much given what this is. I was only interested in this because I could slightly improve my drawing workflow. I’m not ready to pay a monthly subscription for something like this. The few minutes I save exporting from Procreate is not worth it to me. If you take user feedback seriously, and I really hope you do, please try to be more transparent about what the limitations of the app are. The site and App Store page is currently very unhelpful as far as your pricing models go and what each payment tier gives you. I don’t so much mind the few dollars every month or year, it’s the annoying bill that I have to see every time. I might even pay 20-25 dollars up front if it means no subscriptions. All that said, it didn’t even work for me. It black screened all 3 of my screens and left my computer unresponsive every time. I won’t give it 1 star because you as a developer do seem to be trying to keep your users happy, but as a first time user I was left with very little to be impressed by. I hope to be able to come back to this app eventually and be pleasantly surprised. Thanks.

Drains my laptop in less than an hour. Cool concept though. If you are on a laptop, your iPad will charge while connected, and will drain your laptop’s battery very fast. I can work 6 hours on my laptop, but less than an hour with this software running. It really defeats the purpose for me. To be fair, the software is not to blame, but the fact that the iPad will charge anytime it is connected. Google is clueless on how to prevent that. Windows user, this software does not have a clean uninstall. It will leave apple software behind that you need to manually uninstall.

A Waste Of Time. After spending money on this, I come to my PC to see the software refusing to open after I downloaded it and restarted my computer...After a while it opened and I expected a clean display and high frame rate, but all I got was a crusty, unimpressive excuse for a computer screen on my iPad. I tried to truly put it to the test by opening a paint program and seeing how bad the lag was. All I can say is that it’s disgusting how you have to pay for something that is easily comparable to splash top, the frame rate and display is horrible, do not waste your time and money.

Scam app. I told this stupid app not to charge me after this trial, I cancelled the trial as far as I know but still got charged $27.65 Canadian. Scam app, considering a chargeback. I can’t believe how expensive it is.

Excellent Customer Support and App Quality. I emailed them about a legacy purchase issue and they were very responsive and helpful in implementing a fix. The app quality is great! I think any student should have this app as it is a excellent portable second monitor for a windows laptop. Display Quality is quite good (8.5/10 compares to regular monitors) if you change the settings to the highest settings.

Not working with older iOS.. Although the web site claims it works with older versions of iOS my iPad will not connect to my windows 11 device. 2 emails to them and no response or solutions.

Does not work. It shows an image of my desktop but then it freezes. It needs major improvements before it actually is able to do the things they advertise for. I hope I can get my money back.

First-Round Knockout. Duet has exceeded my expectations as a second monitor application for the iPad. The pen input works great, the resolution automatically resizes whenever I flip from landscape to portrait mode for long writing or reading in a vertical window. I love that I can use it in my desktop setup, or open the application up when I’m out and about and have Apple Pencil support just work. it’s… *chef’s kiss* I don’t think we’re ever going to get Sidecar for Windows from Apple, but at this point I don’t care. Duet is everything I need it to be. I would prefer to use this application in a wired environment as opposed to wireless since I’m on the other side of a small duplex unit from the router. The connection strength still manages fine however, not glitching in any way that would annoy me unless I was watching a video on that screen due to non-frequent jitters, but video would be better displayed on your main monitor in this setup regardless. Since an iPad Pro will -not- charge on the typical USB 3.0 ports from 10 years ago, I’ll add a usb-c adapter to the ipad to have both USB out and power to the iPad separate, but it is worth mentioning to someone who is looking to work another display into their workspace. It’s easy to have your desk become a mess of wires from living the iPad dongle life, so a little bit of pre-planning goes a long way. There is one weird issue that I think is limited to a Windows thing, bug -some- applications, when you close duet, as you would unplug a display, it keeps the window position on the display duet was using and then it will seem like your program just isn’t booting properly. Support has also been great for resolving any issues or questions I had (right click two wallpapers in a folder and set them as a wallpaper to have multiple wallpapers working, there I just saved you some time :D )

Works well, only small complaints. The functionality is good, it looks good on my iPad Pro, the picture quality is kind if like a Windows screen with pixel scaling so it’s just a little blurry, but it does give you a proper second display with just a little lag. One thing I didn’t see mentioned in reviews is how much CPU the Windows client uses. My Lenovo X1 6th Gen with Core i7 is pegged at 30%-40% CPU constantly when the second Duet display is active. This makes the laptop run with the fan on all the time. When I disconnect it from the power source it uses less CPU for some reason, around 20%. Why? Fix it. Also, when you close the app on the iPad and re-open it, you need to exit and restart the client on Windows which is annoying. Took me some time to figure that out. If you don’t, the Windows client keeps restarting and spams you with notifications. If it wasn’t such a CPU hog and wasn’t so finicky with reconnecting I would give it 5 stars. I also find it somewhat expensive, but the free apps are nowhere near as good, I tried them. Edit: the CPU issue was fixed by the developer after I reported it, now the CPU usage is barely noticeable.

DO NOT PURCHASE. There are many bugs in this app, screen share via USB works most of the time, but the wireless option is A PAIN to work with. Ppl usually don’t want to use another USB port for this kind of screen sharing. So please fix ur stuff!

Disappointing and Useless. This does not do what it says it does — or at least I couldn’t get it to, despite following all instructions, help directions etc. The things that don’t work are too numerous to mention, and I’m an avid User of many types of App. A sad waste of money. I feel completely taken, no value received.

Does not include pencil support without sub. Additionally yearly price nearly 3x the base price for duet pro? No thanks. Refund my purchase!

like so many other app: now broken and no support on site. like so many other app: now broken and no support on site used to work flawlessly on win 7 forced to upgrade for no reason as it worked well now crashes they only display newest pc version online for download so no way to reinstall older installer and of course usual very clean useless site this is now the usual for apps...

Sign in. So far no luck. Exercise in frustration!

doesn’t launch at all on windows 10. app doesn’t launch on windows. I just reinstalled after not using it for 6 years. Still not working at all after all these years!

They changed the rules, now Subscription based program. I don’t use the program enough to justify the expense model. Since they changed the rules I would like a refund seeing as I paid for it when it came out. When I first got the program you could connect the iPad to the computer with usb and it would work. Not anymore.

I purchased Duet for $10-20 some years ago. Now I have to pay a subscription?. My purchase was for lifetime use. This appears to be misrepresentation.

Not a fan.. Too expensive. Apple will provide this for free this fall.

Not for working for Windows Duet. Was Not able to make this work for windows using duet for desktop.

A must for 2 screens.. I downloaded this after looking up ways to use my iPad as a second monitor. Unfortunately iTunes has to be downloaded on your pc but compared to several years ago is not noticeable. Duet works flawlessly and is a very inexpensive way to have a second monitor. I definitely recommend this!

What a great product. The newest version of the SW is running seamless. It’s so quick and easy to add another display by plugging in your phone or iPad. To back this up they have a great support team to help you along if need be ;).

After Update Apple Pencil 2 Not Working. Was working fine until the latest update. Now Apple Pencil 2 is no longer clicking or selecting, it only moves the cursor. There is little or no customer service. It has potential... and bugs.

No way to cancel free trial. Have tried everything to find a way to cancel and it just seems you can't

Would like to give more stars but can’t this time. Been trying to get this to work with a Dell XPS for sometime now. Continues to have conflicts with GPU. Support team have been very polite but still unable to resolve issues so the software is not useable at this time.

A digital nightmare. Ugh. I’m tech savvy - honest. I work as an editor of support content- and this app, the support for it, and the “speed” with which they address tech issues are appalling. They can’t even get the desktop app to respond affirmatively when there is an update so you need to go check the site. I had the “pro” subscription for a while and as soon as there was an OS update the app would poop the bed. They never get in front of updates. That said, the odd times it worked, it was great but that was maybe 20% of the time. The site says created by former Apple Engineers. I get why they don’t work there anymore. Save your money and sanity.

Great product. I wanted to have two screens but my MacBook Air (2017) doesn’t support the Apple version of this. After a brief search, I came upon Duet. It was exactly what I needed. It installed easily. I had to buy a USB-C to USB-A cable to connect my iPad Air 4 but once I connected I was up and running. I had a couple of questions which I emailed to tech support and they got back to me right away. I don’t mind being in the wired scenario. The wireless version is an annual subscription and has more functionality but for now the wired version works fine. And, it was 50% off on the App Store.

Where has this been all my life. I have never watched an entire YouTube Ad and clicked on the ad for an app and bought it on the spot... UNTIL NOW. Works perfectly with my MacBook Air + iPad Mini + external monitor. The tablet still remains a touch screen even with the pointer going over. You can still rotate the screen. This is one of those little things that I feel Apple should have nailed years ago. I would not have bought my second monitor last year if I knew about this app! Very worth the price!!!

Interruptions. Asked me if I was enjoying duet during a very important task, and interrupted me.

Does exactly what I wanted it to do and what it claims to do. I have a windows PC laptop and I often have to review PDF documents while working on a word doc at the same time. When I am not working in my usual office set up, it’s annoying to have to minimize both the PDF and the word doc onto my small laptop screen so I went on the hunt for an app to allow me to extend my screen onto my iPad, which is exactly what Duet Display does. Because I am cheap, I first downloaded a free app from another developer that claimed it could do the same thing but it 100% did not work and they couldn’t tell me how to make it work so I sucked it up and paid for Duet Display. At first I had a setting wrong so it was displaying my desktop on my iPad instead of on my laptop, but I reached out to customer support, got a response right away and with one click it was working how I wanted it to. Of course, if you can get a larger monitor then you can use your laptop as a second screen but if you are travelling or working where you don’t have access to a full monitor then this is a great option for extending your screen. My advice is: don’t be cheap, you often do get what you pay for. I am happy it is just a one time cost though, I would not have bought it for an ongoing subscription fee.

Solid app with just a couple of bugs. I’ve had a great time with this app and consider it a must for anyone with an iPad. I do have some trouble connecting-have to close and restart the service on my PC each time, which is frustrating, and sometimes it can be laggy, even with a wired USB-C to USB-C connection, but for the most part it’s great

Unexpected purchase. I get that making something like this can’t be easy, but not only do you have to pay for the app but also pay for a subscription. Why not just bake the price into one?

Great for real time observation!. The latency was near 0 and the ability to use the touch screen on the phone as an extension of the computer screen isphenomenal!

Better than Sidecar. It’s been a few years since I last used Duet due to travel restrictions. I tried using Sidecar but found one needs to be signed in under the same Apple ID on both devices. This made it difficult to use a personal iPad with a company MacBook with have different Apple IDs. Duet Display gets around that issue every easily where the tethered Duet Basic continues to work very well for my needs. Still highly recommended!

RIPOFF. I paid around the $10 mark for the app originally and now you’re telling me on top of paying for the app I cannot fully utilize it without a subscription?!?!!? I’m not sure if this is an issue you will get to or if you want to pull one over on your legacy users but this is not how you retain and expand your business. This is how you drive your loyal users running as far away as possible.

Great option for static files on display. The lag on the secondary display is not ideal but when in a pickle is really a life saver allowing you to have a dual screen with out any monitors. It still can’t beat a good monitor but for word processing its great.

Duet air doesn’t work. Please help. Duet air doesn’t work. Please help

Amazing app!. This in my opinion is totally worth $10 because in my case, unlike many other reviews, this app delivers a really smooth experience! Although more work could be done in terms of resolution and touch support at least for Windows clients.

Paid For Useless and Unsupported App. UPDATE: review below still holds. This app is unstable when used to connect windows PC to iPad with USB. Despite the developer’s response to contact them (which I had already done) the issue was never resolved and they just disappeared. So my review stands. Don’t pay for a subscription excepting the app to work or to receive any support. Perhaps as an admission of the issue I was refunded half the original subscription price. But that is not good enough for an app that didn’t work after taking out a one year subscription. I wanted an app to extend my windows laptop screen while travelling and since I also travel with an iPad this app looked good. Don’t waste your money or time. The weird thing is this app worked great a few times. But it stopped working for no explicable reason (both apps and operating systems on windows laptop and iPad are regularly updated and up to date). Support has been completely absent. After asking questions I had already answered and sending a diagnostic file they said they were escalating and went silent. Not what you expect from a paid app and certainly no help when I’m travelling and was hoping to use this for intense work tasks. Now I have to search and pay for something else. I use a wired connection (USB) between the IPad and laptop (which should in theory limit latency and enhance security but no such case). When this app first stopped working, the devices just wouldn’t recognize they were connected (which they had before with no changes on my side). Now for some inexplicable reason they suddenly are able to connect again but the app is completely unusable. Anything I move to the iPad screen freezes and can’t be used as all (either that or the resolution is completely off). Useless app and even more useless support. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I don’t think this app works for windows laptop to IPad connection so the reviews must be for other configurations. Also it appears this app will not work while offline because you have to be logged in even with a wired connection. So don’t plan to use on a plane for example.

unsure. just bought it....finally read you need the pro for pressure sensitivity....cant find where to buy pro....super Super laggy even with the lowest setting...and usually i got no issue mirroring my ipad to my pc. this such a deception.... also website is garbage that give zero information.

Connection / Pairing is inconsistent. The wired connection does not always work between my PC and my IPAD Pro. After one of the updates I lost the ability to use my IPAD keyboard. Messages of invalid non apple usb c cable are frustrating…( I have an IPAD cable) … Seems like connection is better with the recent update… Overall, once the pairing is successful I love the ability of using my IPAD as a secondary touch/drawing screen

Works perfect for years!. I’ve been using Duet for years (since it came out) and recently had a great experience where Duet helped me migrate to the new subscription model they have. The app works great as it always has and it’s making my life a lot easier when I travel and need and extra monitor! Love it!!

Really good! Using MacBook Pro 2013. Very good! Not perfect. But very good, and your best option imo.

MacBook Pro 2017 and iPad Pro 2015. Very slow in any resolution. Moving mouse on iPad leaves trails. Slows down MacBook and doesn't recognize VMware Fusion in full screen mode

Pro doesn’t work for CSP. I bought the app and used my 1 week trial of pro to try as a pen tablet display for clip studio paint. At first I thought it wasn’t working at all because I’d draw with my Apple Pencil and nothing appeared. And then I realized that the parallax is five inches apart - the cursor on clip studio was drawing 5 inches away from where my pencil tip was. That’s over half of my screen width! Didn’t happen on the menu sections of the program, only within the canvas of the app itself. Maybe this doesn’t happen on other drawing applications, but clip studio paint is the only app I own, and I’m not willing to buy another drawing software to make this work AND commit to subscribing each year. I’d consider getting pro if they fixed this issue. Otherwise I’m only keeping duet basic as an extra screen display is mildly useful to me. I was really excited to try pro, but I was just disappointed 😞

Not perfect but the best solution I have found so far for using my iPad as a 2nd monitor. Pros. When it works, it works well. Speedy reaction that allows me to connect my iPad to my Windows 10 laptop to use as an external monitor. I have bought two external monitors for travel and have not been satisfied with either. (One was too small and required a separate power cable, and the other required a private wifi connection, which is usually not an option when traveling.). Now I can use my iPad Pro, which I take along anyway, as my second, good screen-size monitor. Cons. The connection can be capricious. I have had multiple instances in which it refused to connect to my machine or would constantly disconnect. It seems that the issue might be related to drivers either on the Windows machine or on the iPad that need to be regularly updated. Hopefully doing that will keep it working ok.

Good but not Great. When it works it’s wonderful using my iPad Pro 12.9 as second monitor. The issue is getting synced up with the correct resolution as a separate monitor can be challenging and bit inconsistent. Sometimes I just have to disconnect a few times or power cycle the iPad to start with a clean slate. I am usually able to get synced up eventually but sometimes I need to be determined. I found when I go into the duet advanced settings on my Mac and tweak those settings gives me my best results. It’s just a hassle sometimes having to go through all the tweaking when you just want it to work. It’s still a good app and I am still glad I bought it. I am sure it will get better with each revision. Looking forward to when it becomes a great app!!!

This app does not work.. Not sure who all is really having this much luck with this application but It is not working for me. I downloaded the app because when I Dj I’d like to display some programs on my 12.9” iPad Pro right (sounded like an epic idea at the time). After downloading and installing this app I found that I am only able to literally display a blank desktop. I am unable to access files or programs that I had open prior to connecting Duet. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. But I hope this at least goes to illustrate the lack of a robust user interface with the app and computer. Needles to say, I will be deleting this app of my iPad and computer. ... after attempting to give this app a second chance still no luck! I tried to follow their recommendations to remove apps that might cause the program to not display such as Citrix, but to no avail. Maybe I’m an outlier but I would like to reiterate my point. This app is not robust!

Great app, great support.. I've been using Duet for a while now, and not only has the app worked reliably, but the support team is incredible. I'm currently running the High Sierra beta, which was having issues with Duet. This was expected since it's a beta, but I reached out to the team to let them know I was having issues and give them feedback. I got a response 3 minutes later from someone on their team, who gave me a link for their High Sierra beta version, which resolved the issue I was having and went back to working perfectly. I typically have a chat window open on my iPad, and focus all my work on my main desktop. It's nice because there's very little latency, and it boosts my productivity a lot.

New version works with Surface 3 again. Duet was working great for the past 3 years with my Surface 3 running Windows 10 and and older iPad until about 6 months ago. I contacted the company and even though I had checked for updates and found none, they had me uninstall my version and download a new one from a link they gave me. Viola! It worked again. I now have a lightweight, lag-free second monitor that doesn’t need a power source and has a great battery life - my older iPad! Just what I need to get real work done while traveling. I love this company and it’s attention to customers. I got my response from customer service in 20 minutes! And their advice was spot-on right from the beginning. Don’t bother with those clunky “portable” monitors or mess with other display softwares - Duet is the real deal!!

Used to work, now it’s unresponsive. I used to used this app all the time with both Mac and Windows. All of a sudden the connection to my windows PC has completely stopped working. I don’t recall ever seeing the “apple approved cable” message on the Home Screen before, which was never an issue before, however, even when I use any of the apple cables or data/display capable cables I have, it still doesn’t work. Hard to understand how I was able to use the same cable for this app and VR headset (separately), but for some reason, ONLY this app stopped working. Even the fact that if I didn’t have a USB-C port on my PC, most devices for most people that would need a cable, most likely on my have a USB type-A port and that makes it pretty difficult for many people to use the type-c to type-c cable that comes with the iPad Pro without using some sort of adaptor.

Not working like before on MAC. Start by saying I loved this app and it still works great on my two Windows 10 machines for work. Both laptop and desktop can use my iPad Pro as a second screen and add a touch screen (iPad) almost seamlessly after a few short minutes of configuration. If I was rating just on that I would give it 5 stars. Ironically the problem is using the same iPad Pro with the latest Duet on my MAC Book Pro. I have used it to give me touch bar capability and additional monitor for my MAC Laptop. I am not sure at what version but now the Duet screen only uses 2/3 or less of the iPad screen. The rest is just black. I have tried adjusting resolution, screen position, and text size. Only once did I see it use the entire screen again only to pop back to 2/3 or less. I hope they can fix this. I will be happy to report it and update my review. UPDATE: Duet support contacted me within hours of sending an email to them. They are working with Apple on this issue and offered some suggestions to help. Waiting for a fix, but very pleased with support getting back to me so quickly and letting me know this is a known issue with the latest MAC OS version and that they are working with Apple on a fix. At least it isn’t me.

Gets the job done. I got duet at the beginning of the pandemic, when i was sent home with my relatively little Lenovo X270 but without my external monitor. I considered buying an external monitor, but without knowing how long I would be home for I never could commit (not to mention many models were out of stock). I have the big 12” iPad Pro, so it’s a good screen size for an external monitor, while also not taking up a lot of space on my temporary desk. The biggest problem is that the app doesn’t always recognize my laptop. At first (in March) I used to need to restart my laptop every time i wanted to connect to duet. This has since improved (in June), but it still occasionally doesn’t launch properly and I need to restart. Duet is definitely NOT as smooth as an external monitor when using a windows laptop, but it’s pretty good. The resolution isn’t great (this is probably my laptop’s fault), and there is a tiny amount of lag when dragging things or using the pencil. But also my laptop suddenly has a touch screen, which is nice. Another minor concern is the amount of battery this takes from my laptop, so even though I’m using all my portable devices, I really need to keep everything plugged in if I am working for longer than an hour.

Yes, you want this.. I work in IT, and I can use all the screen real estate I can get. I heard mention of Duet from a flight simulator I really enjoy and thought I would try it out. Super easy to set up, worked right “out of the box.” Duet Display worked so good it got me thinking about another product they have, Duet Air. Because of my work I have to constantly bounce back and forth between the MacOS and my PC. I have been using Microsoft’s Remote Desktop for Mac. It works ok, but Air sounds like it’s got more features I’m interested in. I’ve interacted with Duet’s support team, and as a support guy myself, I can honestly rate them an A+. Fast, knowledgeable, and friendly!

THIS is exactly what you’re looking for!!!. So...I can’t upgrade my system to the latest OS to take advantage of the side car feature. Ive had Duet for quite some time and really only used the mirror desktop setting but the extended display feature for me is what now helps my ability to multitask without having to buy additional hardware. It did have trouble in the beginning recognizing my iPad Pro as a separate display in which I uninstalled and restarted the process twice. Now it works like a charm. I have no idea what the issue was but needless to say I was upset so I sent an email requesting some help from their tech support and they did not disappoint. Granted I had already “fixed” the problem myself but their prompt response and professionalism has pushed me into writing a much deserved 5 star review. Thank you to the Duet Team!

What happened? Resolution?. Hi! Been using Duet for years. Recently, within the last month or so I’ve noticed you no longer have an option for specific resolutions to use? It’s just “high power, pixel perfect, and energy efficient” and the resolution options themselves are no longer actual displays, just high and low… I really feel disappointed by this…this app used to be perfect, now it’s decent, it’s hard to view discord or any other videos over Duet on my iPad (it’s an 8 inch screen) so it didn’t have problems before, not sure why it has problems now… hopefully you guys can fix this!!! But regardless, 4 stars for now. It still works decent, just not as well as before Edit: FIXED as of last year.

Windows 10 Creators Update Issues. I’ve used Duet for a few years now and have loved it! I would recommend it to anyone that isn’t using Windows 10 with the creator’s update. I know that a recent update was issued just three weeks ago to help fix some issues but I am still having problems with Duet doing funky things to my PC, even when I’m not using the program. I should mention that the app itself works fine on my computer when I do use it. However, it basically makes my taskbar useless. I don’t know why, but the only thing I can use my taskbar for is to start programs that have been pinned to it and I can right click the task bar to get to my computer’s settings. Otherwise, whenever I download Duet to my computer (even if I’m not using the app to run on my iPad) it won’t let me use my taskbar. I hope these issues get fixed because I love this app and would love to continue using it in the future.

Avoid “Air” (Pro too, probably). Basic version with connected USB worked great as an additional extended desktop (extra monitor) for 2017 MacBook Pro. However, being tethered was a bit of a nuisance so upgraded to Air. Absolutely dismal experience. The lag is so slow that it negates any utility. 2017 iPad Pro screen repaints result in large blocks not rendering any content. Constant warnings about WiFi connectivity being problematic and advising use of direct USB cable to realize full performance. Tested against three different wifi routers all of which are recent high speed devices. Same result. Looked for subscription cancellation before end of trial but too much time elapsed messing around with different testing environments (plus its not obvious how to prevent auto subscription occurring). Documentation is sparse to say the least. Difficult to find any info for problem resolution other than basic “move closer to wifi AP”. Developers claim previous Apple employment. Perhaps they were fired! Seriously regret the waste of money.

It’s Okay Sometimes. It is really great to have a mobile second display and the startup is fast and easy, but it doesn’t work as well as I would like. I’m using a windows 10 laptop and connecting the latest iPad Pro 12.9 with USB-C. It has some lag, the picture on the iPad is rather grainy, and it sometimes just goes dark for no reason. If I have to switch back to the iPad functions, most of the time I have to disconnect, force close the app, start it up again and plug it back in. Sometimes I have to repeat this a few times. I paid for the added features allow touch screen usage on the iPad, and it usually lags too much to be useful. I was hoping to use the Apple Pencil with this for Photoshop and illustrator and it doesn’t work. I don’t know it’s supposed to work or not but I was hoping it would. As time goes by the problems are getting worse. I will possibly need to find other options, just to give me a good, solid second display that doesn’t go dark.

Great when it works. So I (generally) love Duet. I’ve used it for years and recommended it to a lot of friends. But it’s fiddly. If I get a new computer, update the OS or even use someone else’s monitor for a few hours it requires an email to support to get things working again. I can’t avoid the feeling that this is basically a hack of Mac OS that mostly works and is awesome once you get it rolling. But change one or two things and you can expect everything to fall apart. Luckily they have awesome support. I do wish that they would put more time and attention into the basic app because I feel like the pro level has become the new focus of innovation and attention and the functionality of the monitor extension is more buggy than I remember in the past. Net conclusion. It’s a (generally) awesome app. You’ll love it. So much in fact, that you will crazy miss it when it doesn’t work and you can’t fix it without an email to support. Which is me right now.

Customer service is the key. I have to say the app itself is awesome, but their customer service is even better. I purchased the app two days ago and followed the instructions to install them on both my iPad and PC. Unfortunately my PC keeps giving me a blue screen when I try to connect iPad to PC using Duet, I thought it was my PC too old since I got it 6 years ago and wasted my money. But I gave a last shot and sent an email to customer service. Honestly I was not expecting a reply since no developers really got back to me before. But they did get back to me overnight. After asking couple of questions they gave me a solution and it worked! I want to say my developers can present good apps, but not many can keep their customer at the same level after they sold their products to you. This team is awesome!

Amazing and makes work life remote achievable. The system is amazing and helps ensure I can work quickly and effectively while remote. I usually use three screens, and working at home because of Spatial distancing made that unrealistic since I don’t have a great home office. Being able to use my computer and iPad to provide multiple screens allows me to work throughout my home and outside on the deck. It is easy, functionality is great, and the simple connection makes it a very power tool for my success. The Duet team is also very helpful. I had a minor issue getting started and they walked me through the process. If you want flexibility of location, multi screen access, use Duet!

Convenient and cost effective. I had been toying with getting a second mobile display for a few weeks but the cost was prohibitive. Plus, I already travel with a laptop and iPad so adding a third piece of technology to my backpack wasn’t on my happy list. I found Duet by accident while reading an article about second screens. I am so glad I investigated. I used my iPad as a second screen at a recent meeting and had several coworkers very jealous. The linking was really easy. I contacted customer support for an issue I was having (turned out to be my mistake) and they responded within 24 hours. I’ve recommended this app to everyone at work. We all travel to a central location for meetings. Most of us work from home and use multiple monitors. Duet made my last meeting much more productive.

Pro isn’t working w/ Mojave yet. Duet Display has been very useful I’ve the past year and due to connection issues with cords, I decided to try the Pro wireless version. I have tried during my free week to get it to work right but I’ve concluded that the Mojave OS is giving it issues. Unfortunately I am not seeing the upcoming charge of $20 (which is automatic) so that I can cancel it, which would be helpful to at least go back to the old version so I can use that till they fix these issues. Just be sure that after you buy the basic version, at whatever point you decide to upgrade to the Pro, that you check to make sure it works with your current OS (not much info is given when you purchase the Pro version) I have recommended this app to friends and have been happy with it, I’m just frustrated right now with Pro

Now controlling my MacBook Pro. I used to use this app a lot but it has gone completely the wrong way in terms of function. It is now unusable and the most recent updates on the MacBook require permission to control your computer. For a screen mirroring app to require permission to control things on my Mac is just creepy and the way that is does it is even worse. So I decided to give this new “accessibility” requirement a try and after launching Duet on my Mac and IPad Pro 12.9” the mouse on my Mac just started selecting random things and I had no control over what it was doing. It selected an airplay feature so the display external display could be used but it also selected and tried to rename a folder on my desktop. Duet used to be my go to external display app when it was just a plug and play app but now with the extra permissions that it needs from the MacBook seems like a privacy or hacker mishap waiting to happen. I’ve used this app for several years but today it has been deleted from my MacBook and my IPad Pro. I wouldn’t recommend to anybody.

Doesn’t work well with Mojave. I just installed this app. For $10 it would be great if it would do what the developers said it would do. I should have given more credence to the App Store reviews than to the Duet help desk response that said it works with Mojave. I try to keep my software up to date for security reasons. So I have Mojave on my iMac and iOS 12 on my iPad Pro. If you want to use the whole iPad screen, you have to select the lowest resolution on the Duet settings on the iMac menu bar. Selecting any of the higher settings just leaves an ever larger black bar at the bottom of your iPad. And despite what the FAQs say, rotating your iPad does not allow the iPad to go into portrait mode with Duet. Everything is just sideways, the screen does not change. All in all, I wish I had not spent the $10. I have already deleted it. My recommendation is that if you have upgraded your iOS within the past two generations of iOS, save your money.

Great app. Still has a few minor shortcomings. But great nonetheless!!!!!. I do software dev, gaming, and other intensive computer stuff. Long story short is if you game and use this with NVIDIA gpus, you will have weird error messages when you launch games and force close. I uninstalled this on my gaming PC and my 1070 is running all my favorite games great again. On my MacBook Pro, this is a lifesaver! I’m always coding on the go, but never wanted to carry around a thicker than iPad portable monitor just for a second screen. It’s also great for my other windows laptop I use for work. The touchscreen is slightly finicky and the refresh rate can be a bit off too (this obviously depends on the hardware in the machine as well). Nonetheless, if you have an iPad and find yourself needing a second monitor or a touchscreen to help with photo editing, watching movies, or looking at text.... look no further. Don’t use this for games! Fun fact - you can wirelessly stream your games from any 7 series or higher NVIDIA card via the Moonlight app for iOS. No need to plug this in as this caused the above described issue. Cheers to the developers!

So glad to have this app back!. I have been using duet display for a couple years and found it to be a lifesaver, especially as I traveled to remote offices to work. No need to load the big huge screen as a second monitor, I could just use my iPad. When I upgraded my computer to Windows 10, it had a graphics driver that was not compatible with the PC software. I contacted tech support and they told me that they were working on a fix but did not have it yet, and offered to refund my purchase. Because I knew how helpful the app is to my productivity, I declined and said I would wait. Just reinstalled it today, it's working flawlessly, and I am so excited to have this great productivity tool back!

It’s worth to try. Connection is kinda wired. I connected IPad Pro 12 inches to my Asus 15 inches with discrete video card. Asus 4K resolution. The only reason I connected iPad is to work with Photoshop and use it as a retouching pad. They ask for 150$ for life time connection per equipment per person. I think it’s too much. 50$ may be. Because for 200$ you can buy retouching pad and connect it. As for performance: it’s slow. Lagging if you use iPad while connected. It doesn’t make sense to pay that much if you need dual screen for business. For personal use is Ok but not for 150 lifetime or 40 or around per year. not worth it. What can I say apple getting more greedy lowering its quality. this app lagging and doesn’t reflect actions you take in real time on both screens. Expectations don’t meet quality Apple products used to be and the asking price. 2 stars.

This Used to Read “Superb.”. I was an early adopter of Duet, and for the first couple years I happily rated the programs (one for the Mac and one for the iPad) as superb and gave them a 5 Star Rating. It worked well on my 2nd Gen. iPad, and then on my iPad Air 2. These days I use an iPad Pro 12.9 and Duet is unusable. I’m given a choice of inappropriate resolutions that leave the bottom or both sides black barred (Duet calls it “letterboxing”) or I’m forced to use an inappropriately low resolution — 768x1024 — that leaves text and drawings looking like mud and distorts graphics (squares look like rectangles, circles become oblong, etc.). The native resolution of my iPad is 2048x2732 which is stepped down by Apple to a point size of 1024x1366 or larger, depending on settings. There’s a FAQ on the company’s website supposedly dealing with the issue. None of their solutions worked, including deleting and re-installing both apps. Using Duet now leaves me with fewer usable screen pixels on a 12.9“ screen than when I used a 9.7” iPad Air. I signed up for the pro version, hoping vainly that there might be some magic there, but no such luck. It just allows me to use my Apple Pencil to draw distorted & muddy lines on undersized screen real estate. Blech. Until, and unless Duet cleans up it’s act I’m killing the Pro plan and turning to a rival product.

Windows 10 maybe?. I gave this three stars but only because initially under windows 7 I didn’t have any issues. Since upgrading to 10 I hadn’t used duet in a while but now it randomly disconnects which causes me issues because the app I use is stretched across all the displays so when a display disappears it freaks the app out. Now I don’t know if this is an iTunes, duet, or windows 10 issue. Maybe a combination of some or all of those. I updated my iPad iOS, iTunes, video drivers, and still random disconnects. That instability and unreliability makes it useless for my purposes. When it works it is amazing, but I’ve gone as far as I’m willing to troubleshoot it at this point. For me it has reached the point where further attempts to determine the problem isn’t worth the trouble. The random disconnects result in a total inability to do my work as windows adjusts to a monitor disappearing and then again adjusts when the monitor comes back. While that happens my work comes to a standstill until the next time it disconnects and reconnects. So, it’s a good app, but for me it doesn’t meet my requirements any longer. If it did then I’d easily give it five stars. TL;DR: It used to be great for me, but recently started disconnecting and reconnecting randomly so the unreliability results in my no longer using it.

Needs work. This app is great...when it’s working. The display is great and works well with my work software and it is amazing when it works. But again, I am constantly getting stuck on the launching screen and having to do all this software updates and such to use it. I feel like for an app you pay for, it still needs some work before you are charging people it very frustrating to have to keep doing extra work on an app that you pay for. I am constantly being asked what I use and would love to say this app but unfortunately there is still some issues that need to be adjusted before I would recommend to other coworkers. I still can’t get the launch screen to work right now, so I am paying for an app that I can’t even use... something needs to be fixed here or I will be canceling my subscription for sure.

Set your expectations.... This app is not meant to replace a real external monitor and perform in all the same ways as you would expect one to. It uses USB, so there’s that major limitation. With that said, it’s perfectly usable and lags far less than I expected (with Retina option enabled, hard to notice any lag when that option is disabled). Can be used for reading email and web pages, even worked pretty well with some video I tested. Wouldn’t want to try it with games, but it might actually work for the most basic types that are out there. It’s nice to be able to have the extra screen real estate when on the go, and requires I carry nothing more than I had already been carrying so it’s an absolute no-brainer... thanks for this app!

Worked great until it didn't.... I was hyped to make use of my ipad mini 2 to make working in the field off of a work laptop much more ergonomic. The extra screen space from an under used device already in my bag was welcome. I was thinking wow this 54% more productive thing is pretty legit until my ipad screen stopped responding after an hour or so and then the whole PC app itself stopped responding. I had open files on the ipad that got stuck and didn't just return to my laptop screen even when I unplugged the USB with no way to save. I then thought switching to single display in display settings would clear the issues up but instead my laptop screen went black and the fan kicked in like the laptop was getting worked over. I've just updated to OS 12 and my laptop randomly just hard locked again so I had to remove the app which is unfortunate. I will be requesting a refund and check into it again at a later date.

Enhances my workflow!. I installed the app and had some difficulties with how it reacted to some of the programs I run on my Mac. I contacted support and they were responsive in a reasonable time frame. Sergio the support technician guided me through solving my issues I was having with the app. I thought for sure that I was going to have to abandon using the app due to the conflicting software. Nope he spoke to the developers and they gave me a command line to write into the terminal application and it disabled the conflicting problem I was having with the app. The app is very functional and the screen quality is amazing. I am an audio engineer and I run dual monitors during my pro tools sessions. A mix window and an edit window. I use the duet display as a third monitor for all of my plugins. I can now mix and edit and tweet plugins all on the fly in separate windows. Thanks Duet!

Super cool, easy, effective. Such an effective and helpful app. When at my ‘home base’ I’ll dock with a full size monitor, but if I’m traveling or working remotely it’s so convenient to be able to use my iPad as a second monitor. It’s not real-time speed but I wasn’t expecting that - there is a bit of a lag but I will just put the more ‘static’ content on the iPad (e.g. if there is a document I’m referencing or my calendar or another email I’m reading from) then do the ‘active’ content on the Mac. It’s one of those ‘magic moments’ when you first fire it up - I wasn’t expecting it to work so well and so seamlessly. I just switched from an older Retina MBP to one with the touch bar and that even works with the active screen on the iPad. I rotate between connecting an older iPad Air 2 or the full size iPad Pro and both work great. Highly recommend for productivity (haven’t really experimented with any sort of entertainment uses). Also, had a bit of trouble setting it up on the new Mac (it had been a while since I originally did) and their customer service was incredible - got back to me within the hour and had super fast responses to make sure everything was resolved (it was).

A productivity life saver for the road. I LOVE duet! I travel a lot for work and use a small Lenovo laptop. It's fast and lightweight, but it has a very small 12-inch screen. I often have multiple programs up at once and switch back and forth (e.g. Excel for a project budget, Word for a proposal, Firefox for searching, and a stats package for running analyses). Trying to do this on the little 12-inch Lenovo screen dropped my productivity through the floor when I travel. At home I have two large desktop monitors, so I'm used to working with two screens and seeing two or more programs at once. I always carry my iPad Pro (12.9 inch) so with duet I have two large (for the road) monitors and can work almost as well as I can at home! duet has solved my monitor issue when I travel, and it is easy peasy to use. More than worth the money!

Works Flawlessly!. What a pleasure to find one of those rare apps that works exactly as it should. Whether you are connected by USB cable or connecting wirelessly (requires upgrade to the inexpensive one time payment paid app, and well worth it), it just works. The wireless mode connects automatically, every time. Performance with either way of connecting is smooth. Works with Catalina and both my old 2015 MacBook Pro (no Sidecar) and the latest model MacBook Pro (where it works way better than Sidecar). On my iPAD AIR gen4, which I use as an extended monitor, it even works with split screen multitasking. It’s really empowering to add touch screen abilities to the MBP. While you’re at it, get VLC to make file transfers a snap.

Finally a second screen!. I use my iPad Pro (1st gen, 12.9”) as a second screen for my MacBook Air (2014). They work great in tandem with each other through just a lightning USB cable, and really help me when I need my online textbooks or PDFs on one screen and Word/Excel on the other. My usual settings for Duet enlarge the text fonts on the iPad (which then gives me full screen usage) and makes text much more legible. While the screen’s display isn’t at the standard of say, Retina, or HD, it’s still very much useable and functional. I’m not an artist who needs full and exact color scale, but for my purposes as a student, it works great. I first used Duet when it came out and it’s gotten much better in the recent year. I would personally recommend this small investment of an app if you already have an iPad (10”+) lying around.

This will screw up almost anything that uses DirectX legacy on a Windows PC. I installed Duet Display for PC about two weeks ago, but didn’t buy the app because I was short on funds. Since then, I noticed that a lot of games that used DirectX versions prior to DX11 were crashing on startup. I spent several hours troubleshooting, reinstalling drivers, tweaking my registry, all to no effect. Games like Age of Empires II, Empire: Total War, Morrowind, and Skyrim just wouldn’t launch on my PC. I’ve read that this is an issue with software that uses DirectX as well, not just games. After finally purchasing and trying the app, I realized it wasn’t a good fit for me and uninstalled the desktop client. On a whim, I decided to try to fire up Age of Empires II. It worked perfectly on the first try. Due to this issue, which I have read has been a high-priority bug on their radar for more than a year at this point, I will be attempting to get a refund for this product. I feel like this is something the Duet developers really need to prioritize, if it’s been known for so long, or at least deliver a statement indicating this issue beforehand. This may not happen with all Windows systems, but it happened with mine. Be sure to do your own research beforehand, and remember that Apple has a 15-day return policy.

Limited features until buying a subscription. This app only extends your monitor it doesn’t mirror and doesn’t have pressure sensitivity until you buy a subscription. It works well with Mac but on windows you have to launch iTunes to get it connected correctly (after running the windows installer from their website). There is no clear directions to get everything working which disappears after the app’s initial launch. I didn’t know you had to go to display properties and configure the settings to extend the screen only after launching iTunes to make sure you have a connection. Then it shows an error on display properties that you can’t mirror. I wasted 3hrs getting it all set up for the purpose to use it as a drawing tablet only to find out you can’t use it like a Wacom tablet but an extension monitor.

Cash Grab for Artists. First off, let me just point out that this app does work as intended.....that is, it's meant to be a "go-anywhere" second monitor. Say you're an artist and wish to use this app to draw on your PC.....because there is no other alternatives for Windows users while Mac users have AstroPad. Well.....good luck with that because after you purchase this app, you will need to pay a yearly fee of $20 to upgrade to Duet Display Pro and only then will you actually get the functionality to use a drawing program on your PC and then use Duet to control the application through your iPad. I'm sorry, as a person who draws every now and then on my iPad but wish to do so on my PC, I can't justify shelling $20 a year just to be able to draw on my PC through my iPad for a year. Until AstroPad decides to make a version for Windows or until Duet Display makes this function for the basic version of the app, I don't recommend this app to anyone unless you just want a extra display monitor for your windows PC.

Not so much a tablet replacement. Had so much headache out the gate with this app connecting to windows 10. Finally got it to work after reinstalling a few times. I was looking to replace my dated Wacom intuos with iPad Pro accompanied with duet display. I got hyped for the “no lag” and “high resolution” to be an alternative to the cintiq. First noticed THE LAG. Definitely a lag present. Picture quality was not awesome but exceptional. Accompanied with adobe photoshop having issues recognizing the “pen tablet” resulted with no pressure sensitivity. It handled pretty well with autodesk sketchbook but I primarily draw in photoshop. Overall a pretty neat app that allows you connect wirelessly through WiFi to remotely access windows and turn your iPad into a touch screen for your pc. But to say it’s a competitor to actual tablets is a bit of a stretch, for a pen tablet owner for 10yrs. I’m hoping the lag and photoshop issue is something I can fix on my end but I’m starting to lose optimism on that.

Exactly what I was looking for!. After purchasing an Apple Thunderbolt Display for my MacBook Air, I found I still wanted to have my iPad as an additional display. Before finding Duet, I would use my iPad to keep my calendar always-on; however, a bid problem was the screen timeout, making my "always-on" more like on-off-unlock-on-off... I installed Duet, and after an issue that their support was great in helping me out with, I was immediately up and running. It would be a 5-star rating except I find my Spaces on my Mac is now not quite as smooth as before, but I believe they're working on this. UPDATE: Now 5-star as Spaces and the overall performance is now as smooth as a native display. Also, technical support is amazing.

Unusably laggy (Mac Mini / iPad Pro 12”) || better with support. ***Update*** Duet’s FAQs and whatnot didn’t help, but I reached out directly to their support line, which did. I received support within 12 hours, which recommended a few changes that have resolved the lag issues. Some other problems (especially those outlined below where the Mac Mini is running without another display) persist, but they’re manageable. ***Original Review*** I was hoping Duet would work as a standalone monitor for the rare occasions where my Mac Mini is headless, but I can’t even get this to work adequately as a second display. I’m bummed, particularly given the price point. Standing alone, the app seems to hate the weird resolutions it's forced into, and will create this weird zooming out effect any time I move the cursor. The end result is that everything becomes functionally unclickable (you have to guess where things will appear when zoomed, rather than click where they are). And, somehow, most of my taps register as right clicks? Ick. It’s really, really bad. Also: the lag is bad. As a second monitor, or mirroring an active display, the funky resolution zooming issues are fixed (hooray!) but it’s still so laggy as to be unusable. Boo! FWIW, I’m running a zippy little i7 Mac Mini w/16 GB of RAM and an SSD + a new 12” iPad Pro.

Extreme latency issues - Unfortunately unusable. I wanted to like this app. Unfortunately the lag is far too noticeable for it to be useful as a drawing tablet. I tried a wired setup via usb C with the 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 inch. I’m connected to a powerful gaming machine with a 2080 TI. Even with reducing settings to their lowest at 30 FPS and the lowest resolution, the input is not good, and the picture quality is low resolution. If you absolutely want to use this app as a a drawing tablet, start with the 10 dollar version and see if it works better for you before buying pro. I was able to get much better results using another app ‘Easy Canvas Pro” although that app has its own set of issues as well. If the developers can suggest ways to make this work better on my setup, please let me know, but as of now I would suggest you don’t use Duet. I bought an iPad just for this feature, so I am disappointed to report that the Duet advertisement of “zero lag” is simply false.

My Mac Touch Screen. Wow, absolute WOW! When I learned about the Duet Display app, I had to buy an iPad to use as a touch screen for a MacBook Pro. I am using multi-track audio recording software, and wanted a way to adjust the knobs, dials, and faders that control various audio plug-ins, instead of using the mouse. The combination of iPad, Duet Display, and Mac works perfectly together. With the iPad plugged into the Mac, there is almost no delay. It’s in the milliseconds range. I wish I could give Duet Display 20 stars. EDIT: Their support has been excellent too. When I switched to High Sierra, the new Mac OS “broke” Duet Display. The folks at Duet had an upgrade ready. Then when Mojave interfered with Duet Display, I contacted Display’s support, and they sent me a new beta of Duet that solved the Mojave problem. Good job Duet. I’m a happy customer.

Very poor experience, not compatible with NVIDIA!. When I used the duet application on my ThinkPad, I had to uninstall the duet in order to use the independent graphics card. It is said that this problem has existed for a long time.I sent an email to the customer service, and the customer service response was being resolved. When I asked about the progress of the problem, the customer service has not responded. As far as I know, this problem has existed for nearly two years. There are many PC users who have mentioned this problem, and the customer service reply is always being processed. I don’t know when it will be processed. I hope the official can disclose the progress of this problem. And pay attention to this problem and solve it as soon as possible, don't delay it!

Slow after rejecting new paid upgrade. What a shame. I have never left reviews and I’ve been an apple person since 2008. But today was just needed to be reviewed. I’ve been using duet pro for 2 years. Never had an issue and was always extremely please and satisfied with DUET. However, Just recently after denying their new paid PRO upgrade all of the sudden using the duet app has become even slower and it lags and delays A LOT. I try upgrading the online host and nothing. I tried deleting the iPad app and re downloading it. And nothing. Even worst now that the online host has been upgraded and the iPad has been reinstalled it doesn’t connect properly or it makes my lap top crash. Being a business owner and College student that used DUET everyday, this is a big disappointment. Maybe in the future they will go back to the great company they used to be. Till then its time to delete this app.

Doesn’t work, tried upgrading to their Air / Pro version and that was a pain. It’s not like other apps that let you just download software and you’re good to go. Nope. It didn’t work for me, and it kept crashing my computer. I made the mistake of buying this app because I thought it would be good. It doesn’t work with a wired connection on PC or MacBook. I tried with an iPad 7th gen and an iPad Air. So I see there’s a wireless option with a free trial. Okay, I sign up and that one worked. So I’m pretty happy during the trial. But then I spent so much time with billing because it says payment not processed through their payment processor outside of the apple store. After a day of talking to support, now I’ve been charged for the Pro version. I already set up my Windows computer with a different app (Project Blue) that works with no problems even if it’s free and on its beta phase. And I figured out my MacBook had the Sidecar feature with my iPad Air anyway. The duet app without the upgraded $30 subscription a year did not work for me.

Didn’t work for me. I tried to use this app with my pc and it did not work. I am using a GTX 1080 graphics card connected to my monitor via DisplayPort cable. When I connected my iPad with Duet Display my main monitor started flickering a few times then it lowered the resolution and disconnected from my graphics card. While on my iPad the app was a black screen although the pc responded to the touch display of my iPad. Updated drivers, reinstalled the app on my iPad and pc a few times and no results. Feels kind of bad to have wasted $15 for nothing. I wish there was a trial version that would let me test the compatibility. UPDATE: the devs reached out to see what the problem is. Using the app now works with my setup.

DOWNLOAD NOW! :). Wow…this is DEFINITELY an app worth having. Not only is it super nice to have a second screen (I teach English online, so it helps to have one screen to see the student and another screen to have my materials on), but the customer service is impressive. I have an iPad (5th generation) and MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017). Initially I was having issues downloading the Duet program on my MacBook. I went on the app to troubleshoot and accidentally pressed “asked” and sent a blank email to Duet’s support. Within an hour I received a personal email from their team asking what they could help me with. I had already figured out what I was doing wrong (yeah, it was user error). Now both devices are running smoothly together! I definitely would promote this app for its usefulness AND customer service!

Breaks my PC Gaming. Pretty upset, incoming long troubleshooting story. I had purchased and installed Duet for use with my Desktop to expand the monitor for work. And it appears to work well, positively helping with my workflow. But now the weekend comes and I’m trying to game on my PC and I encounter some unfamiliar bugs. The PC doesn’t seem to recognize the graphics card anymore, while it tries to run games. I had reconfigured a monitor for the weekend so I had assumed I did something wrong there. After an hour of adjusting the monitors, and reinstalling my Nvidia graphics drivers on my 970, I was ready to assume my GPU was broken. Then I tried one more thing, and uninstalled Duet. And then, just like that, everything works just fine again. All things being equal, it appears Duet was the source of the problem, completely wasting my evening. If possible, I need a refund. I can no longer use this software unless you expect me to uninstall and reinstall it every time I sit down to game.
