no audio a/o 1.24.16. Great when the audio works, but that does not always work. Re-installing does not help. When it doesn’t work in this app, it also doesn’t work in the free online program. The great Larousse needs to do some work to keep audio working.

Please fix the pronunciation files on the Larousse server. Excellent content, but there is a problem with Larousse's server: many pronunciation files are missing, so you get constant error messages while using the app. This should be fixed. Otherwise, people are probably better off buying the cheaper Larousse English/French dictionary, because the content is very similar and you get many more pronunciations. Also, in the next version please add full-text search and the ability to add notes to bookmarks.

Audio doesn’t work. The dictionary is great. Would give it a higher rating if the audio worked.

User-friendly reference dictionary. I've been using this dictionary for a couple weeks now in conjunction with Petit Robert & Dictionnaire historique de la langue française. The Larousse is actually better than I had expected. One thing that irks me slightly is the default Cap when you type in a keyword. And if the initial word is accented, it won't come up in search results: so e.g. you're better off searching for Ecrin than Écrin, or turn off Caps and input écrin. On previous iOS Larousse also had apps for its Dictionnaire encyclopédique and its Thesaurus which was really great and which I used a lot. These apps are now gone without a trace. I hope Larousse restores them or refunds the users who bought them. I still have the Thesaurus in my iPhone and haven't upgraded to iOS 11 just do I have access to it.

Amazing French-English dictionary...especially for advanced speakers. I have been using this dictionary for close to three years and can say that is indispensable for non native speakers who want to communicate at a high level. Unfortunately, I think that some issues with the audio feature is causing people to ignore all the utility of this app. To be clear, I am am fluent in French, living in Francophone Africa and providing medical care in that context. However, being a non native speaker I still frequently encounter words I don’t know (going to a hardware store, for example) or come upon times where the nuance of a word/phrase is very important. That’s where this dictionary is helpful because it not only gives the French-English translation but also gives the different translation in various contexts. For example the word “nut” can mean a food, a piece of hardware, or my crazy neighbor, each of which will have a different French word for translation. This dictionary will give you all translations. Additionally, we sometimes have specific phrases using said word that aren’t straightforward to translate, like “He’s a fitness nut.” This dictionary usually gives you an equivalent phrase. In reverse, it will give you the many different contexts/translations of a French words and often includes common idioms under a given word with their non literal translation. A language beginner may not appreciate all the information here, because at that level one only needs basic translations and speaks in a more limited context. However with time one finds themselves coming across a whole variety of contexts that require a tool to understand the breadth of the French language. As someone who picked up this app towards the beginning of French studies and now has to use French for daily life tasks as well as in academic contexts, I cannot more highly recommend this app.

Please update app for iOS 11!!!. A message to the developers: please update this app so it can continue to be used! I really don't want to lose it.

Disappointing. When I want to know how to say something in French, I want to type in the English word have the app provide the French word and the pronunciation. There is a button for this, but tapping it results in a “network” error.” I deleted the app and reinstalled but am still only able to get the English pronunciation when I type in an English word, and that is not what I need.

Complete for Fluent speakers. Complet pour niveau très avancé ou courant.. French native who lives in the US with a Masters in English. This dictionary is very complete, to me the most of the market. I recommend it for all levels including advanced ones. I don't find it that expensive considering it does English from/to French. Often dictionary apps only include one way. The sound works fine for me (Bought once, it works on my iPad and iPhone) but otherwise, the IPA (phonetics or word sound) is included which is quite helpful. The history feature is quite useful if you want to go through the words that you have looked up. Apple should make it possible that the dictionary is accessible from another of their apps. None of their dictionary apps do that yet. Française vivant aux États-Unis avec un Master d'anglais. Le dictionnaire est le plus complet du marché selon moi. Je le recommande pour tous les niveaux y compris très avancés. Pas si cher si on pense qu'il comprend anglais-français et inversement. Ce n'est pas toujours le cas pour les autres applis. Vous pouvez écouter la prononciation des mots, et si ce n'est pas possible pour vous, la prononciation phonétique y figure. L'historique permet de réviser les mots que vous avez cherchés. Ce qui serait intéressant, c'est qu'Apple donne la possibilité d'accéder au dictionnaire depuis ses applis. Aucune des applis dictionnaire ne permet ça. J'ai acheté également le Grand dictionnaire espagnol-français, tout aussi génial.

Sound feature doesn’t work. I bought this expensive app because I saw that it had a sound pronunciation feature. However, when you click on the speaker icons, either nothing happens or an error message pops up. I haven’t gotten the pronunciation sound feature to work even one time. I want my $9.99 back.

Excellent; needs updating for iOS9. This is an excellent dictionary. However, with iOS9 the audio no longer works. PLEASE UPDATE FOR IOS9 AND GET AUDIO WORKING AGAIN.

Needs an update. DO NOT BUY ! The majority of pronunciations do not work, the app is not optimized for IOS13, and crashes often. Disappointed Larousse charges so much for this app and will not fix these issues after years. Instead use wordreference. It is free and has much better translations. Use Google translate if you need quick offline translations.

I also find the audio feature does not work. I would like to hear the French pronunciation of words but only get an error message. No setting provides a download of a sound file or any other remedy.

Very Useful. This is the best French dictionary app by far that I have used as concerns the content. The entries have helpful examples nicely laid out by semantic function. Please, please update this app to run smoothly on the latest OS!

Needs updating. iOS 10.3 reports that this app needs to be updated to continue to function. It's a great app, I hope they will fix it.

Almost perfect. The dictionary is great, but there are no verb conjugations. This is surprising, given that the abridged Larousse has them. Having said that, it is the best dictionary available in the App Store. It has an incredible range of definitions, and the pronunciation guides for each word are the best you'll find.

Content reasonable but features poor. Sound doesn't work on ipad and there are no verb conjugations which is a feature of the cheaper version. No response from Larousse when contacted by email. Not worth the money. Very disappointed.

Excellent App. This app covers a wide range of vocabulary: it is, after all Larousse’s “unabridged” French-English dictionary! So high marks for that, as it often has that obscure word that the others don’t (the only other recourse is apps like ‘Le Petit Robert’, ‘Le Robert Mobile’ or ‘Larousse Dictionnaire de français’ if you can read French reasonably well). Unfortunately, it has omitted verb conjugations which the standard Larousse English-French dictionary treats very well with full conjugations for every verb. It has links to high-quality sound files from native speakers for all the headwords and for a very large number of illustrative phrases and sentences. This is very useful for refining one’s pronunciation. This app would score a top 5 if it included verb conjugations, especially considering its low price. Highly recommended.

Don't bother. The audio stopped working and it no longer provides pronunciations. This was why I spent so much buying this app in the first place. No updates are available, no support is offered. Very disappointed!

Possible fraud. Possible antiquity.. This might be a fraud. Only translates single words. MP3 audio of pronunciation is not working. I would like my money back.

Great for expanding, and actually remembering, new vocabulary. I really like using this app, I find it head and shoulders above the other ones I’ve used for actually learning a language. The search filters in real time, and the examples of how the word is used in different contexts makes it far more useful and memorable than a word in = word out translation. Note to the developers - a ‘did you mean?’ spelling correction would be useful for clumsy thumbs. Also, think about including “submit a sentence” for you to review and add colloquial uses that are not already featured.

Sound doesn't work. What's the point of paying so much for an app if its main selling feature - the ability to hear the words in French - doesn't work. I have an iPhone 6. Very disappointed.

C’est pas ça, un dictionnaire!. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi c’est si difficile de trouver un dictionnaire en 2016. J’ai payé en pensant que ce serait un vrai dictionnaire, avec définitions exhaustives, suggestions de synonymes, etc, comme un vrai Larousse devrait être mais ce n’est que des synonymes. D’ailleurs, j’ai cherché quelque chose d’aussi commun que le mot avant-midi et il n’est pas dans la liste de mots. Je suis vraiment très déçue d’avoir payé pour cette app. iTranslate fait la meme chose, pour 0$...

Very good. Searching is very quick, and I've never failed to find a word. Integrated vocal pronunciation is great too. The only thing it could do to be better is make conjugated verbs searchable, but there are other apps for this. This app needs an update. In-app pronunciation sound doesn't work and crashes the app since iOS9.

Excellent. This is my most used dictionary for years! The usage examples are excellent and extensive. Pronunciation of main words and primary example phrases works, but secondary pronunciation links (pronunciation of the English definition for a French word or the French explanation of an English word) don’t. Comments on idiomatic usages and grammatical nuances are explained in detail and provided with many examples.

Useful translation dictionary. I am generally able to find the English for the French words I find in a French newspaper. Phrases of two or more words are sometimes found in the examples. However, most colloquialisms are not in the dictionary. Some words used in Quebec are not found. Some words that were created recently, or are formed by mixing existing words, are not found.
