Decent but needs improvements. First off, only 1 week trial is too short to explore all the features and see what is best for you. Secondly the HIIT routines look great but when using the routines I found to often that when the first exercise in the circuit was finished, the second exercise would apear for a couple of seconds and then revert back to the first exercise again. In order for me to do my routine I had to use SIRI for my timers. I think it might be caused by the apple watch app and iPhone app running at the same time. I don’t use the watch app but when I am not wearing my watch the HIIT routines work, but when I have my watch on, the routines on my phone don’t work as intended. Once again with only one week trial I am not able to confirm this. I just know the HIIT routines do not move from exercise to exercise like it is supposed too.

Really good but how do I track gains?. I’ve not come across a better app for leading me through my workouts in a common sense and simple way. The Apple Watch app is by far the most complete and intuitive that I’ve been able to find. There is one major missing feature that has me looking at alternatives. I can’t track reps completed and weight by set during my workout without editing the entire routine. This can’t be done at all on the watch app which means I have to carry my phone. Being able to see reps completed and what weight was used by exercise over time is an important way to track gains or plateaus. Without this all I am tracking is whether or not I did a routine and what my apple activity stats were. Not enough data for those of us that are tracking to see progress over time!

Exactly what I was looking for!. I used to play on all sorts of sports team, and every summer I would do conditioning so training became something I enjoyed. But recently I experienced some health issues where I lost all my muscle and have had to start over. It’s made in incredibly uncomfortable for me to go to the gym because I’m really embarrassed. So I was looking for something that could give me different exercises to do at home, with limited equipment. I was tired of my own routines and I needed a fresh take. All the research online overwhelmed me. So I decided to check this app out and holy moly, was it perfect! There are still some basic grammatical errors and some features that I think will need work (can only link it to an Apple Watch, I don’t see how many calories I burned in a workout in the history tab, etc). Overall, I’m thrilled. It’s got me motivated and feeling great. I can see my muscle building back up slowly and I love that I can set the amount of time and which days I want to work out and rest on. Thank you so much Smart Gym! Hopefully one day I’ll be brave enough to go to the gym in person, but for now, I’m going to use Smart Gym!

Manual Control. The main thing I like about this app is how you can manually add routines and exercises. Most health apps try to do everything for you and often charge monthly so you can have access to automatically created workouts. I already have a great workout routine and I just wanted to be able to easily add my sets, reps, and weight so I don’t have to lug around my notebook. Overall this app works as advertised and is fairly easy to build custom exercises to use in the future. The organization and naming criteria make sense for most of my exercises except for a few movements. Specifically, there is currently no way to group a set of movements into one exercise. For instance, I’d like to make a core circuit which has three different exercises some with sets and reps and some with sets and duration and then be able to specify how many sets of that bundle I need to do. You can kind of do a work around and currently I’ve just been adding the multiple steps to any exercise within the notes section of it. However, I will be asking for this bundle feature to be added.

Okay Gym Log. This log is okay. It’s good for logging your workout to a degree but it has its flaws. The biggest one is that it’s not really easy to log your set when it deviates from your plan. Sure, you can use their mechanism to change the weight but it’s clunky and isn’t all that intuitive. The second biggest issue is the fact that the rest timer doesn’t make a sound when the timer is up so your constantly looking at your device to see if time is up. It’s not that big of a deal but seems pretty basic. The last issue I have with the app is that their prebuilt workouts make no sense in terms of the types of exercises chosen for a given body part. Perhaps an option to make suggestions for a replacement exercise would be helpful when you don’t want to perform their choice. I use it as a log but everything else about it is lacking.

Too complicated and involved. Read the overview you would think this was an easy to use application on your watch and or a use out of the box features. Not so much, I have used a good bit of these type apps before and this one takes the prize for the most confusing user interface. Not too mention the use of the workouts on the watch, well that was a disaster (workout would skip the first exercise and not start the next in sequence then ending the workout). There is nothing more aggravating than being in mid work out and having to deal with this nonsense. I was unable to get my watch and phone to sync, even after following the apps instructions. When weight lifting, the rest timer would start and end when I was supposed to be lifting weights, 🤦‍♂️. Needless to say I cancelled my 7-day trial and will not be buying or recommending this to any of my gym buddies. Thanks for the trial because I would have been irate if I had purchased this after reading the app profile (swear it was the best on the market).

Decent But Confusing Watch Interface. The app is nice in that it gives you the opportunity to start a Workout to log heart rate, cals... setting up routines is intuitive and has a nice set of options including supersets. Where I think it falls short is during workouts. It doesn’t give you the ability to quickly and easily change the info of the set you just completed if it’s different than what you set up in the routine. If the ability is there, it’s not intuitive at all. I have used the “Log Different Set” button but that’s not a very efficient way to do what should be a simple task. Also, I don’t see any visual representation in my History where I can see my progression over time. I think if the developer modifies this very common task, the app will be exceptional. Right now, it’s a confusing replacement for paper and pencil, except it’s easier to change a set completed using paper. That’s not what a Watch app should feel like.

Good but needs improvement. I definitely like this app and I much prefer its one time payment approach as opposed to many other weightlifting apps that want to charge crazy monthly or yearly subscriptions. However, this app isn’t prefect. One thing I’d like to see added is the ability to edit past workouts. There are times when I’ll forget to change the weight during a workout and there’s currently no way to change it once the workout is completed. Also the ability to add drop sets would be a welcome addition. In addition, the Apple Watch version of the app needs much improvement. It doesn’t handle supersets very well. For example, once I complete the first part of the superset it won’t transition into the next exercise, I’m only able to see the last exercise in the set. It also doesn’t check off all of the exercises in the superset, only the last one that has the timer on it. I would also like to see improvements made to the charts section. If every exercise had an accompanying chart that showed how much you’ve lifted over time and gave suggestions for increasing weight and estimating one rep max would be a great feature. All in all, I really like this app and use it almost everyday, but there is much room for improvement

The exercises between my Apple Watch and my iPhone are not synchronized.. I don't speak English but I will translate my message. I have been using the SmartGym app for a month and a half and from the beginning when I start a workout from my Apple Watch and it does not synchronize it with the iPhone, I have tried all possible ways, I have synchronized them again and it does not work, I have connected them to the internet, I have turned them off and on both and nothing, if I uninstall the app and reinstall it or close it and reopen my account, all the progress I made on my Apple Watch is deleted. I need help, I don't want to regret my purchase because for everything else it's perfect.

Maybe I’ll try again later. Seems like a good app except the first exercise I tried to do (cleans) wasn’t in the database. Created a routine searched for cleans, couldn’t find it, tried to create an exercise, they tried to charge me, then I deleted the app. How do you not have cleans? I feel like it’s a pretty foundational exercise, but I’m probably wrong. Maybe I’ll try again some other time if they add it. It seems like a good app but I didn’t even get a chance to really test it. Maybe let customers create a few missing exercises before you try to charge them. Then they can truly test it and give a more suitable review. I’m not changing my routine to accommodate what’s available in the app. The one thing that this app has going for it that no other weight lifting app has is support for watch, phone, and iPad in landscape. That landscape is important for me. But what’s more important is cleans.

Sharing workout. I like the app, pretty user friendly for the most part. My main issue is sharing workout with friends. My friends and I share workouts with each other to keep each other accountable, and I introduced this app to them thinking we would be able to share workouts and Ideas. We have not had any success sharing workout(we all have the app also) and we tried multiple ways of sharing. The only way that seems to work is to screenshot the workouts and send them to each other and they enter the workout on their phone which can be pretty time consuming, not to mention a real inconvenience. Other than that the app is pretty good, if you are using the trail version you can only have 2 workouts planned at a time which also isn't great but gets the job done, if you have time to keep constructing workouts.

Great routines, very diverse, should be more user friendly. The app works amazingly, all the types of routines it gives can be helpful for everyone especially since everybody is different. I feel as though the app should be more user friendly so people aren’t so intimidated by what it provides. To be able to create little personal routine entirely instead of pick and choosing what you want to hit and having to change workouts within the routine because it can be “too much”. Also being able to name workouts to being as simple as “push, pull, legs” or “upper, lower split” would be great as it’ll help know exactly what the routine will consist of. Instead of having named routines like “A2,C3,H1”.

Seriously get this ASAP. Smart Gym with the Apple Watch is possibly the best workout combination you can ever ask for. You can create your own workouts or choose from existing and all can be down from within the Apple Watch itself. The UI is incredible and you really start to see how much you useful information you can fit onto a tiny screen. I love being able to start, stop, create, delete, etc sets whenever I want. Some of the best features I love is the inclusion of the rest/workout timer that notifies you automatically without you needing to rely on an external device or your head. I highly recommend this app for anyone looking to improve their workout experience!

They fixed UI weirdness. Update: The bugs described below appear to have been fixed with the latest update. I’ll leave my original review up for posterity. The UI appears to work reliably. Now that it works, time to figure out if it’s any good! I accidentally let my trial roll into a subscription, so I’m definitely leaving a review. I can’t understand how this app was chosen as the watch app of the year. It’s the buggiest mess of an app I’ve used. Multiple times over the course of each 30-minute workout, the app interface does the wrong thing. Instead of going to the rest countdown, it shows the next exercise screen with the previous exercise in it. I need to scroll down to the next exercise and then hit the “go to current exercise” button. This still takes it back to the weird screen, but when the next exercise is up, it will go to the timer screen correctly… that is, until it screws up again in 2-3 exercises. This is the most common form the bug takes, but it takes other forms too. I’ve had a countdown showing on top of the next workout screen and a few other permutations. It seems like the developer doesn’t use the app or else surely it couldn’t be released this way. I’m interested to see how it actually works if they could just make it work correctly! For now, it’s a big mess!

Brilliant. Instant buy after amazing trial.. I will try to update this with continued use but this app opened many doors with the minimal equipment I have. I struggled to understand how I could use body weight exercises to my advantage and I feel this app is already helping immensely. Looking forward to adding exercises and learning the proper form. 4 stars because I need the animations to loop and I’m going back and forth to reload animation or tapping. Animation loop in an update would instantly bring it to 5 stars for me. Haven’t experienced recommendations yet as I’m still learning but I expect good results. My favorite feature is editing “smart” routines if I feel like my current plan can’t execute the exercise. The app quickly allows me to adjust to a similar exercise, or add something else. Data translates well to other apple apps and I’ve had no issues using it with my iPad, phone, or watch.

Awesome 😎. I’m over 55 and less than 65 and it’s been a while since I’ve been in the gym and realized it very important to get back “in” shape. Toyed with the idea of a coach/trainer and realized that can become expensive, not that I don’t think they are worth it, but I am self driven when I know what to do. The smart app helped in that “know what to to do” area. The app showed questioned my desires/goals and created a workout program for me. As I progressed the app increased weigh/routine to keep me moving towards my goal. Later I could review progress and metrics to track my progress and make adjustments, delete routines or add others. This app has put me in control of my workout routine via my iPhone or Apple Watch. I love it 🥰. Thank you.

Great app. Downloaded this app to help me out in the gym. After going through the initial setup and trial start the app was horrible. Started a program, adjusted the weight and reps, then was kicked out of the app. I setup the program again and same results a second time. App continues running timer in the background somehow. I couldn’t understand how the timer was running but kept kicking me out after I adjusted the weight and reps. App deleted. Glad I didn’t pay for a full year. Update****the team contacted me very quickly and let me know what the problems were and even suggested what to do so I wouldn’t have the same issues again. They are working to fix that issue overall since they had never seen that problem before. I’m very very happy with the app and will be starting a subscription with them. Thanks again for helping me out so much developers!!!

For $50 i was expecting more. The app is ok, it helps but not more than any other free app. For example you would expect that when you deselect equipment it does not show anywhere anymore…But it does - and all the time. it is really annoying to see trx, kettle and everything else you haven’t selected appeat over and over again when you try to add any exercise. Why is that?? Also there is no option to select only with eqipment, it keeps giving you all exercises. It seems unfinished this app to me. If i could cancel i would. Graphically is nice but it is just a too cluttered with exercises you may never use. It needs a lot of organization and management to be better which is left a user to do but no options to do it. Also searching for leg it gives you abdominal and everything with a leg. It needs work, a lot of it. Im not an expert but beginner and was hoping to see at least basic organization and search to work.

Decent but Counter Intuitive & Frustrating. Pros: will take your home equipment and suggests exercises. Has prebuilt workouts and will create works out based on your goals and equipment. Cons: nothing does what you would expect it to do. Want to do a workout? Well don’t pick the workout and then hit start, hit start and then select the workout. Want to complete a set of a new workout exercise? Well the first time you tap the set number. Then go to another menu where if you tap to complete set 2 it takes you to a menu to edit that set. You’re supposed to hit the arrow in the bottom corner that EVERY OTHER DEVELOPER ON THE PLANET HAS DESIGNATED AS THE WAY YOU LEAVE THAT SCREEN TO EDIT. The whole app is like that. Want to change an exercise? Well the replacement menu doesn’t order the replacements by the exact muscle groups from the exercise you are replacing. Honestly the app is maddening. The watch app is virtually unusable because of this. It’s supposed to update your workouts with suggestions for improvements but logging is so annoying that you won’t stick with it and “AI” suggestions won’t be based on real data. Have fun with it. I’m looking for something else.

Difficult to customize. Beautiful interface. Very overpriced. I do a lot of physical therapy exercises and they aren’t all included in the options, so I have to type them in by hand, so I don’t get a diagram or instruction and I don’t think it records any data about the exercise. Also it does not take my movement limitations into account when creating a custom workout. If I cut an exercise from their routine because of my limitations, it’s up to me to pick a replacement. So much for expert advice! Also, it asks you what DAYS you are working out, requires you to assign a day of the week to each routine. I’d rather just tell it how many times a week I plan to workout. It would be great if it cued up a workout based on which muscle group’s turn it was or how long it had been since I did “workout A”, instead it just cues up the workout based on the day of the week. Also, this is annoying for an app this expensive— Apple Watch app does not automatically sync to the same workout page as the phone app. I think if I were completely able bodied, and could do every exercise they suggest, I’d love it. But I’m not so I’m just disappointed.

Needs a full time internet connection. Unless you have an Internet connection during your workout, this is only a list app that you CANNOT update during your workout. You can’t log different sets or types workouts. Not all gyms have Internet access, devs! Also, if even you do have Internet access, you can’t log different sets individually. If you prep to do five sets of 12 reps but squeeze out 14 on the first 2 sets or are having an off day, and try to log those as “different sets”, the app closes out the entire segment of the workout as complete. You can go back and update later sets, but the app is no longer tracking sets completed vs not completed. I wonder how much this app was actually tested in a gym because these annoying issues became apparent to me quickly... just after the free trial period expired 🙄

EXCELLENT-GREAT VARIETY-GOOD FOR ALL LEVELS. It’s exactly what I was looking for something that showed the muscle groups demonstrated the routine allowed me to customize it set up my own routines or use pre-formatted ones and track my performance and abilities not completely straightforward but easy enough to learn the only thing I wish was laid out better was the rest interval. I wish that would start automatically or be better formatted in a way that there’s a countdown timer for the actual exercise routine and then the rest clock would start it’s a little confusing until you start using me up some other than that compared to all the others I’ve tried I’m starting like this one the best. I’m purely a novice who lost 60 pounds with a trainer but I need to do something at home other than in the gym and now it does that are intermediate level in this totally works for me I think many people will like it as well

Great workout app. I can only speak from an individual using this on my own. If you are self motivated and just need guided exercise as if you had a trainer telling you what exercises to do, this app is for you. I’ve only just started using it but already love it. There are clear explanations in writing, picture, and video. The app tracks all your info and you don’t need extra paperwork or spreadsheets. I’m using it in my home on my ipad. I would think it would be great at the gym with an Apple Watch. I really like how it asks what equipment you have to modify the workouts to fit what you have. I wish it would use items like bosu balls and some other items that I already have. But with this app you can add your own exercises, too, so I will do so. Very reasonably priced. Doesn’t replace a personal trainer, but at the cost of one, this is awesome. This is a great way to keep in shape. Thank you for your hard work in creating this app.

Not really free. There is not much functionality without premium. When making my first exercise on my first routine it wasn’t in their system and I couldn’t create a new exercise. So I can’t really judge the app because I didn’t even get to try a workout. It’s fine to charge for an app but when you can’t do much on the free version just be up front about it in the App Store Edit: per the developer response: After downloading the app the first thing I did was create a routine. The very first exercise in that routine (Kettlebell goblet Squat with Pulses) was not in the database. I could not create a new exercise as this is a premium feature. So I could not experience what tracking a workout was like since I could not create one. I wasn’t about to change my routine to fit the app. FitList is what I currently use (which I do not pay for) and I have 4 routines. All of which have ~70% custom exercises.

Very Helpful. I love the SmartGym app! It has made workouts so incredibly easy to do. It take all the guess work out of it. It counts my sets, my timed exercises, and my rests. And everything integrates beautifully with my Apple Watch. So easy! I only feel like it is currently missing two things. One is that they have the ability to program supersets but not circuits. While it’s not impossible to track them the way they have it now, it would be so much better if exercises could be linked in a circuit like they are for the supersets. The other thing I think would be great is some kind of feature to up the weight while you’re working out. So when you finish an exercise and realize next time you’ll want to do a heavier weight you can click something and you can change it to do for next time. But then another piece to that would be being able to track/report your progress on that exercise.

Great gym app and tech support. I’ve been using another gym app that stopped working with my Apple Watch. I decided to try SmartGym and found it works very well with my Apple Watch. Of course it also works well from the iPhone. Lots of exercises with instructions and pictures. Very easy to use. While testing the app I found a couple of bugs. SmartGym tech support was very responsive and fixed the problems within a day. If you look at their version history you see they release several versions which means they are continually improving and fixing their app. This means they care about their app and their customers. Not something you find with many other apps. Overall I highly recommend SmartGym.

Best I’ve found. I’ve only gotten through the free trial, but I can confidently say I’ll be keeping this app. Lots of customization up front for different skill levels, equipment, and personal goals. Actual workouts themselves are custom-made, and reduce the mental barrier to working out by curating a workout routine for you. Editing for reps/weight, exercises can be easily replaced to customize your daily routine. Rest/type of sets are very easy to edit and mix and match. I’ve not found an app that allows easier tracking and logging of workouts, and it keeps long-term history to track progress as well. Tutorials for the exercises are to-the-point, and it gives pointers for things to avoid when doing an exercise which is very nice. One thing that would be a place to improve is a bit more compartmentalization by muscle group when choosing a replacement exercise, as well as a search function so replacing exercises would be even easier. All-in-all, a great app that has taken the hassle out of lifting, and has rekindled my love for it!!

UI is not Customer Focused. Switched from Jefit to Smart Gym solely because Jefit did not support (nor indicate support was coming) for the Apple Watch. As an avid fitness enthusiast, using data to improve my workouts is important. Who goes into a public gym knowing the weight, number of sets and reps, and order of workouts they will perform? If you’re pushing yourself, you should be editing your workouts in flight. Twelve is not a magical number that is superior to 11 or 13. Logging different sets on Apple Watch is hit and miss. Having quick review of history of actual results in app is not easily available during workouts. Want to add an exercise quickly because a bench or rack is taken? Hopefully you’re taking 120 second rests to make that happen. Is this a good app? Yes. Is this an amazing workout application? No. Should you go out of your way to test this app? No. I’ll probably revert back to Jefit now that Apple Watch support has been initiated.

Really great app.. I really like this app. The watch interface is perfect for the gym. It allows changes to routines right from the watch. It’s easy to use, but did require a little bit of effort to figure it out. But a link to a video was the perfect learning tool. I am hoping to make it my go to app. Which leads me to what I’d like to have to make it perfect. I’d like to see the option to automatically change exercise values from any logged sets. Now you have to manually make changes in the routine after. Secondly, I’d like the workout history report to show total weight lifted. It’s not a big deal, but like knowing my total amount lifted. Finally, the app really needs to option to edit a workout. I have on occasion, because I got distracted, not logged a set. On other apps I tried, I could go back after the workout and make corrections. This is the main thing that has me not set on making this my go to app. I love that the watch app shows my heart rate during the workout. It’s what another app lacked. Having the ability to edit workouts (and the total weight lifted) would be the clinchers to have me sign up for a yearly membership after my paid 1 month trial of it.

Decent but I wish it was better.. I like the idea behind the app and the app itself. It is very versatile in helping create workout plans. There are two main issues I have. The first is I’ve selected equipment for what I have at my home gym but still when creating the workouts it at times suggest exercises with equipment that I don’t have. That isn’t often but it seems weird that that would happen. The second is a bigger issue. While I’ve worked out for a large part of my life I’ve slacked off so I set it to beginner. The problem is it seems to adjust the time of the workout but don’t take in account the exercises. For example I have a HITT training and one exercise is a single leg deadlift with knee thrust and a reverse push-up. I would consider these more advanced exercises. For someone that may be a complete beginner they may struggle with knowing what to do or what to replace it with on the suggested.

A dream for a homebody workout. I’ve always had tough experiences in the gym and embarrassment at not knowing what I’m doing. Working out was hard to even get started when I just flat out didn’t know where to get started. I’ve been trying for years to find something I could consistently actually enjoy, and I finally found it with SmartGym! The annual subscription costs less than a gym membership, and takes the guess workout of creating a routine with their smart AI trainer. You can adjust as needed and as you learn more, select when you add new equipment, and read descriptions of how to use equipment! For the first time in my life, I’ve worked out consistently for two months! I feel stronger, and I actually enjoy my workouts without forcing myself into HIIT classes that I leave miserable and don’t see results. Game changer for me, and I’ve already recommended to several friends!

I wanted to like it more than I did. Overall not bad if you are looking to make a lifestyle change/are inexperienced with working out. I have already been working out on a regular basis for a number of years and was simply looking for something to change up my training - this wasn’t it. I gave it an honest go, completed the free trial, but in the end found the workouts I was creating for myself were more beneficial than anything the app created, and the Apple Watch interface just added another unnecessary variable to my gym time that just made things clunkier than necessary. TLDR: If you want to get in shape and don’t know where to start, give it a go. If you are an experienced lifter and have a good routine, don’t bother.

Cannot Reorder Routines. I like the app overall, but something frustrating for me is the fact that I cannot reorder a routine after it’s been created and saved. I have mistakenly done this several times and each time I have to delete and create the routines in the order that I needed it, again. If I pick a day of the week for a routine, that should be enough for the app to automatically order the routines in that fashion. The same way that we can reorder exercises. Not too shabby. Update: My request is about “reordering” routines, not “sorting”, it’s two different things. I should be able to drag and drop, in the same way that I do with exercises. I use a logic with labeling my routines and days of the week, that with your current capabilities if I make a mistake and save it, then it doesn’t let me change the order.

Overall good. Started app when I seen it was app of the year. Has a few bugs I’ve noticed so far. First bug was it would change my weights when I clicked log. It did this every time. Emailed developer and they found/fixed within a week. Second bug it deletes my reps/sets on exercises. Still shows the volume amount for the workout, but deletes all info for it. Based on history it’s done this at least once a week that I’ve been using app. When you put up to twenty minutes it builds a workout for up to forty. I don’t get how it expects you to do seven exercises of 8-10 reps, and 3-4 sets each in twenty minutes. I wish it explained a lot the more on why it’s picking which exercises. Example is it’s intermixing push/pull two days in a row which means you’re working the same muscles both days without a rest in between. Another nice feature would be to not force everything into a weekly setup. Example here is doing a PPL with a rest day every fourth day. This means a rotating off day, and app resets what’s next each week rather than when you finish the routine. Speaking of PPL it doesn’t understand push vs pull. Seems to more focus on forcing you into a bro split or full body. Developers seem to be working on it consistently which is good. Once it grows a little, and bugs get ironed out than it’ll be a excellent app. The fact that developers where on top of fixing the one bug made me opt in for a year subscription.

Absolutely perfect app. I want to start by saying I haven’t been going to the gym for very long, about 6 days a week for the past two or three months. I got smart gym a couple weeks ago and am extremely happy with it! It is a great app, I love how you can pick what body parts you want to work out and how long for and it builds an exercise for you. I’ve been getting into my workouts a lot more with this app. It’s really changed how I work out because I only stuck to what I knew before, whereas this app has such a vast library of exercises and diagrams that I’ve been able to use a lot more variations of lifting than I even would’ve thought possible. I also really like the measures and how it ties in with the health app, all of the pairing is really really smooth compared to other apps I’ve tried. I love how the trainer suggests changes to your workouts to really help out with progress. It’s good to push you! I love this app and will never stop using it for sure, it’s helped me stick to a good gym schedule and I love it. TLDR: The best gym/workout app I’ve ever seen, easy to create workouts that make sense and keep your body guessing. Seamless pairing between watch and app and the health app.

Great App, Easy to Use, Customizable!. I was skeptical to purchase a workout app because there is a lot of free info on the web to build your own routine. However, this is really simple to setup and it builds your schedule for you based on how frequent you want to workout and for how long. The visuals are great and I like that it has me doing workouts that I’ve never done before. You input what equipment you have available and it builds your workouts accordingly. It will continue to change the workouts over time and keeps you on track with rest times and total workout summaries. I like that it connects to my Apple Watch and shows me my stats during the workout and automatically updates my rings on the Health app. I’ve been on and off working out for years but this app has got me excited to workout. Excellent app!

Excellent App. Update: I still hold the same opinion. I just have a question for the developers and was unsure where to ask. Could there be a way to unlock BOTH the smart trainer AND the trainer version together? I pay for the trainer version as I do workouts for my brothers daily, but I am really interested in the smart trainer facet for myself and cannot access any of it since I paid for the trainer mode. I did not realize that until after I made the purchase so for an entire year I am stuck. This workout app is excellent and efficient. It is compatible with the Apple Watch and simple to use. I only give it four stars because there are a few things I’d like to see added to the app in the future such as stretches (not just exercises) and a measurement tool or diagram of the muscles being worked. Perhaps it is a body and if I do calf raises, my calves will glow bright green and slowly fade as muscles are ready to be worked again. This is an effective tool for people who do not have a trainer and are wanting to work their muscles evenly.

Would be 5/5, except for connectivity issues. This app is the best on the App Store in terms of features. It’s far easier to create workouts, find exercise, and track progress than any other app I’ve tried. However, it requires a strong network connection to log anything, and without that it basically stops working. A lot of gyms I’ve used, including my current gym, have poor cell service and even worse Wi-Fi. If you try to log an exercise on a poor connection, the app will get stuck trying to connect, and eventually the request will time out. If the app would log this data locally, then synchronize when connectivity is better, it would be perfect. Additionally, the iPhone app and the Apple Watch app recently stopped communicating well with each other. Both apps know when a workout is happening, but if you log an exercise on one device, then the other, you may find duplicate exercises being logged or no exercises logged at all.

App changed, was great. I LOVED this app during Covid-19. The interface is intuitive, it tracks your workouts complete with timers and all. The first time I used the app it was a free app and you could pay for some extra features. After I downloaded it again I noticed that half of the workouts are locked until you pay for a subscription. I know developers have to make money off of their hard work, but the app feels not worth it to use unless you pay the fee since you can only have limited workouts saved and half of the exercises are locked. The interface is great and the database is outstanding, but you’re better off going to a good workout site and writing down your workouts and using your phone timer.

Ok app. First of all, the test run of the app is not long enough, (7days only). The workout routine for an intermediate, nor beginner nor pro. For me is a weird setup, you have to update the exercises you want or do what they recommend, which includes a lot of kettle weights, then you only do one exercise of those per week and the app cannot recommend anything to your preference since it doesn’t have enough time to get to know you. IT IS GOOD to keep track of your workout and keep you in the routine so you don’t look lost in the gym. They do have other options you can search for but then again NOT ENOUGH TIME TO TEST THE APP. This is the reason why it gets 3 stars from me. I would put 1 but let’s be fair, the app is good but you’ll need time to get to know how to use it and work it. I’m on my second week and still not sure if I’m using it right. It needs to be a bit more user friendly and not so confusing. They should make it to where you pick the muscles and show all the exercises for that particular muscle or body section.

Love!!!.... When it’s working. Hi, I have had the app for about 2 months and absolutely love it. However, the app sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. What I mean by this is sometimes the app will record my heart rate, distance travelled, and calories burned during a workout and sometimes it won’t. This usually is fixed by restarting the app and starting a new workout. Along with this bug, sometimes the data collected for my workout is not saved and does not sync with my heart or activities app. This is very frustrating as I would like to track all of my progress in those apps. I have made sure that all of my workout data comes from the SmartGym app. I know this is true because sometimes it syncs and sometimes it doesn’t. I just don’t know why it is so sporadic. Does anyone else have this problem or is there a way to fix this because I just want to track my workouts, calories, distance, and heart rate.

Watch issues. Ran into some issues with syncing to my watch that had me upset, however when I emailed the support team they responded extremely quickly and resolved my issue, now I get to talk about everything that the app does right!! It looks beautiful on the watch, has everything you need and isn’t over complicated, tracks workouts well and makes it super easy to follow your workout without whipping out a phone or workout sheet between each exercise. The workout database is good and allows you to add any of your personal exercises that aren’t in the system with ease. Functionality combined with the level of customer service makes this app an incredibly safe and worthwhile purchase. Thanks for turning my customer experience around so quickly!

Watch experience far from “magical”. This app claims that the watch experience is magical and at every opportunity attempts to get you to use the standalone watch app. I have an Apple Watch Ultra which should provide the optimal experience. First I tried using the standalone watch app. It was not great. The set rest timer got lost and was inaccessible. Editing the work out was pretty much out of the question. I then moved to “mirror” mode where the watch mirrors the phone. That worked better. However when reviewing a workout the night before, the mirror mode prevented my watch from going into sleep tracking mode. I force killed the app on my phone, yet the mirror mode wouldn’t die. I tried force killing the app on my watch and it kept coming back to life. I rebooted my watch and SmartGym sprang back to life on my watch. I was eventually able to resolve the situation by uninstalling the app from my watch. The phone app is pretty much ideal, and it is clear that they have put a lot of effort into the watch app. However they should not oversell the watch app’s abilities. Perhaps once you have dialed in your workout and aren’t changing anything then you could get away with using the watch app solo.

Not for Seasoned, Decades Long Athletes Bodybuildes. Decent App for a person new to working out and / or needs someone to create a workout for them. NOT good for a seasoned athlete who NEEDS to pay particulars to their workouts; as in recording their workout details for growth, advancement and knowledge! Once a workout has ended, one can NOT delete or edit their workouts in the History Summary. If you have an error, you can’t correct your workouts or notes. Also, there is NOT an option to write a note about the overall workout. This is very important to me: how I felt, what worked overall, etc. The Golden Days of keeping a written workout journal is SORELY MISSED when dealing with this App. If these modifications, adjustments can be made, perhaps this App would be good; for now, for me and MY workouts, it’s BLAH!

Best workout app out there!!. As someone who goes to the gym pretty much daily it is important to have a good workout app to keep track of everything, make my own workouts, and use pre made ones. It is also good to have an app the is easy to use while working out, and this app not only does all of these things but does them better than everyone else. Pricing is also an important thing some workout apps cost as much as a gym membership which is insane this one is priced perfectly and you get some amazing features. The biggest thing for me though is how it works on the Apple Watch when I work out in order to avoid distractions I leave my phone at home, and just use my Apple Watch Ultra (the fact that it is an ultra has nothing to do with anything but I paid $800 for it so I am gonna mention it damnit) but the watch app is one of the best Apple Watch apps I have ever used just in general it takes advantage of everything about the watch and you can do almost everything on the watch app that you can on the phone which is very impressive as most watch apps are very limited as to what you can do on them. A solid 11/10 app I would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat, weather you are new to the gym or someone who has been going for years.

Needed a new fitness app log. To be fair it’s either a monthly subscription or a annual one. The price I think benefits more on the yearly and only if you are an active user on this app or just active generally with your lifestyle. At first I was skeptical using this because of the price but then since I have a home gym now it tends to all the needs of the equipment I have available and that is one of the big reasons why I am using this app now. My wife and I are active people and we workout quite a bit, so it helps having something that tracks your progress as well as accommodate to the available equipment I have. I’m gonna use this for the rest of the year and see how it goes tho so far I like it.

Not A Glitch. Just did my first workout with the app. The only set back I notice was; when not connected to wifi (i.e. offline) I could not update the reps. If I did more or less I could not instantly update. Error message said “app appears to be offline.” Currently, in various workout my reps are not accurate. Fix this issue and it’s an easy 5 stars… ***Update*** The developer did reach out and I thank them for that. As stated by the developer, “ that's not a glitch. You can use SmartGym while offline, but in order to sync your changes to the cloud, you will need an internet connection. It's important to note that it doesn't require it to be Wi-Fi. It can be cellular like 3G, 4G or 5G. If you have an Apple Watch, then you can already do your changes while offline. It will sync the next time your Watch has a valid connection. We're working on a future update to bring this to the iPhone.” this is a significant set back as everyone does not have an Apple Watch. The app has good features but this minor issue is huge. Not being able to update repetitions while working out offline with my phone is asinine, is like you’re implying get an Apple Watch. ***Update*** Not Worth the Money…still no offline feature and the app automagically archived all my workouts when I tried creating new work using the SMART TRAINER. This app looks great but other than that there’s way better user friendly better intuitive workout apps that is far less expensive .

Great for customization.. I’m in fairly good shape. Most apps give you a workout that might be decent but there always seem to be a few exercises that I don’t like either because they cause me some sort of pain stemming from past Injuries, or I might just not like the movement in general. This app allows you to easily swap out exercises and gives you a GREAT list of alternatives that work the intended muscle group. I’m above average in terms of the shape I’m in, but I have super limited knowledge of different exercises and how to plan my gym days. This app is great because it alllows me to choose challenging exercises I’ve never seen or done; so I’m always pushing myself at the gym now. 5/5 2 thumbs up!!!

Takes getting used to. I've been using the app on and off for approximately six months now. It's truly a remarkable app that effectively motivates you and guides you towards a productive workout. However, it does require some time to become familiar with all the buttons, icons, and navigating through the workouts seamlessly without constantly adjusting the watch. Personally, I prefer using the app on my Apple Watch rather than my phone. The app offers numerous options and ways to customize your workouts, which can feel a bit overwhelming if you're not prepared. I highly recommend gaining a thorough understanding of how the app functions and progresses through a workout before heading to the gym. Otherwise, you might find yourself feeling quite frustrated as you attempt to figure out the app while working out.

Love this app! Just needs a few more tweaks or easier documentation. I use SmartGym everyday. I love how I can fully create my own custom routines or workouts, I can have SmartGym create a routine for one specific muscle group or multiple muscle groups, or I can use the “Trust Us” feature have have SmartGym create an entire routine. I love the customization available pre workout or actually while you are doing your workout!! Adjust weight or reps on the fly! The tweak that I would like to see added is for premium users to be able to add unlimited exercises instead of their being a limit. I’ve hit that limit and it impacts doing new exercises while keeping the old ones. As for documentation. There needs to be better customer support or help. I added a 45 minute walk to my list of routines, and I use it everyday - sometimes twice a day. But I cannot figure out how to get the app to ALWAYS record the walk. This impacts my history and messes up when I am looking to track progress. Extremely frustrating. I just need to understand how to fix it.

Best workout app for watch. Been using this for years and it still impresses me. They have great watch face support and widget support. Always updating and improving

Thank you for this app. I’ve been looking for a smart watch trainer app that would help me commit to my training, thanks to you— I can!

The Gym App. Really love it! Gives me automatically generated weekly workout routines to exercise my whole body. App works great and I love the Apple Watch app (main reason I tried it) Love how it gets regular, useful updates as well, will keep my subscribed for years to come! Only downside was for my wife, she tried it and wanted a routine that was more lower body focused, but it was a struggle. The AI workout generator also generated her the exact same exercise plan as me! Didn’t seem very tailored for women and feels more tailored for men.

Update training. I love this app, the best so far. I just think there should be more training options, despite having the smart trainer function, I don't think it's as good as the ready-made workouts that are available on the main screen. Another thing is the time it takes for the app to update the record, I've been doing the training for two months and until then the record hasn't changed automatically.

Great App for Weight Training!. Seriously a great app - works well on Apple Watch and when set up right is just so easy to use plus it links with other fitness apps.

Good but can improve. The app is good because it’s easy to pick exercises, change for similar ones and navigate . From the ones I’ve tried so far, this one it’s the best because it lets you modify the work out and even add one from scratch so it’s super customised . The major problem for me is that I couldn’t make it work with the Apple Watch . If I set in my iPhone to start the set, then it does not sync with the watch straight away . Also, in the HIIT mode the exercises were supposed to go in a sequence automatically, this didn’t happen with me for some reason I couldn’t work it out . Sometimes it does go in the sequence as it should and sometimes just keeps getting out of the exercise and I have to restart the sequence manually so I lose track of what I’ve done and what I haven’t . Another thing which is small but would be nice if could be implemented is a time for you to switch sides in the exercise . Depending on the exercise this is no big deal but if it’s an exercise that you’re laying down and you need to move to change your position then it doesn’t work . Finally, 7 days trial is not enough to work through all those things and make sure the app is good for me . Even though this is the best app I’ve tried so far, with the issues described above I am not ready to commit for a subscription . I feel that if I had more time to work through those issues and find something that works for me, I might have stayed with this app .

Great workout App. I have subscribed to sooo many fitness apps. Many have one or two great features but also one or two glaring omissions. SmartGym is the best I have tried now. It combines all the main workout features one needs - customisable exercises, notes field, history with RM, rep and weight progress, muscle map, exercise demo, sets over-ride, huge database of exercises, data export, clean and easy interface… and heaps more. I wish there was a FaceBook or Instagram etc community. Nonetheless, GET THIS APP - it’s awesome.

Great app. Very easy to use and follow exercises.. Awesome app. I’m loving the ease of use and the ability to add the equipment that my gym has.

Perfect for beginners!. This app is amazing the smart work out are amazing and work !

The best. I have tried several similar apps and this one is clearly the winner. User friendly, clean interface, responsive. I couldn’t train now without it. Had some questions and contacted support - quick, helpful, professional. A total service provider. Can’t wait to see how they manage to make it even better with future updates. Thanks guys.

Not perfect but it’s getting there.. SmartGym is by all means a great app that’s helps you get back on track and to help reach your goals. I find where this app falls short is the Apple Watch app, it’s incredibly buggy especially when you are in a work out and have multiple routines planned for the week with the same routine name (Apple Watch tends to jump off your current routine your working out to and reverts to another routine with the same name or the main routine selection screen). Suggestions for improvement - please fix the bugs on the Apple Watch and the syncing issues between the watch and iPhone. - more customisation to the entire work out, being able to modify rest times prior to starting the work out rather than during each set. - add additional filter to the routines tab so you can focus on what workout you have planned for the day rather than showing the entire list. - Please bring the app to Apple TV, it would be great to use this app on the big screen to see my progress and or routines. Otherwise thank you so much for the progress so far.

Not bad, but not amazing. I'm an avid user of workout trackers, and I use daily an app to track my strength workouts and helping me find new routines. So when I saw an app focused on strength training being nominated the app of the year I had to try it. I tested this app for two weeks, built a new workout using it and used the watch app to track that workout at the gym. The app is not bad by any means, but there are a couple of reasons I decided to switch back to the previous app I was using: 1) I feel that the watch app is very "cluttered", there's just too much going on when you just want to workout without distractions. 2) The generated workouts are just not good out of the box, feel like a random compilation of exercises for that muscle group. For instance, the ability to set a default number of sets and reps would be a good addition (the app insists on 8 reps, but for the the sweet spot are 12 reps) 3) Creating a workout from scratch is a long proccess. Being able to add multiple exercices at once and set a pre-defined number of sets and reps for all of those would be good. The way it is today I need to keep adding sets to every exercise. It's also funny that the workout "name" is not a mandatory field, but "goal" is a mandatory field. 4) It's just too expensive. Again, this is not a bad app, but there are other apps as good as this one which cost half the price.

Easy to use. What an awesome app for gym peps. This app doesn’t make life hard, it’s nice and simple and having the watch app makes it so much better. Now you can edit on the watch it’s so much better to change it up during your workout. Good work on making an awesome app

Best Apple Watch app. Only app I use my watch for. Completely changed my workouts. 5 stars

Great App - Worth The Subscription. I’ve been on smart gym for 2 months now and it’s kept me motivated for the gym. The use of the timer is such a small feature but crucial to seeing changes in your body at the gym. Small changes so far but great none the less. 👍🏽

Amazing app. Super intuitive, easy to use and makes work outs an ease. Only improvement would be to add a stretching component. Well done.

Looks good but a lot of work. I wasn’t expecting to have to search and save each exercise within a routine that I have to set up myself. I thought the app would do that for me? Bit pricey for a few simple graphics and gifs.

Love the app. One question about upgrading.... Hi and thanks for creating this app. I am contemplating upgrading to the premium plus to get the automated workout creation feature but I am already subscribed to premium. Do I have to pay AU$89 in addition to the AU$35, or is there a way to just pay the difference to switch plans?

So far so good. So far it’s being an excellent app

Love this app. Been using this app for a while now. I jog regularly and lift weights 4-5 times a week. Works really great on the Apple Watch now that each exercise is customisable on the go. I just have one suggestion. At the end of a workout on the watch, it either shows the time spent for workout or the KM distance travelled in the workout summary. This shows up in the daily activity ring. Can you please change it so it shows the total calories burnt instead? Similiar to how the Apple workout app summarises strength training workouts? Happy to provide more info if needed.

Great motivational app!. Has removed the hurdle of getting me into a home workout but handling the programming for me. Love this app! Only thing I’d like is a count down between exercises so I can move station or pre weights before it impacts the timing of set 1 of the next exercise.

Exactly what I need, with one minor issue. I tend to workout late at night as my gym is full of people who spend hours in the gym taking up the machines while they’re on Facebook and/or Instagram, during the day and most of the evening. At 11:30pm, I have the entire place to myself for 60-90 minutes, and I don’t have to put up with posers. One issue I have, and it’s a minor one, is that the app splits up my workout into separate days. E.g. My history shows 6/8 exercises completed on the day I start with a yellow mark, then it passes midnight, so it shows 2/8 exercises completed as the remainder of my workout routine technically done the following day, with a big red mark next to it! They’re the same workout, I reckon it should just merge them as one and give me a green mark for the entire workout!

Good app.. Initially couldnt see anything on my iwatch in regards to displaying my routines created on my iphone. Made a complaint and the creator emailed me saying I should try to reboot both my phone and watch - which worked! Now im a happy chap and for those running into the same prob - this was my fix. Thanks. Love the superset function!

Please add auto detect workout end!!!. Love love love this app. It’s the least complicated UI of all of the popular apps I’ve tried, and using on phone or watch is easy. But please for the love of all that is holy, add a ‘have you finished your workout?’ auto detect workout end message. So many times I’ve accidentally left the app running a workout. It drains my watch’s battery and screws up all of my stats. I know this is on me - but you could make this a lot easier.

Perfect. Excellent workout app that lets you choose your own workouts without a monthly fee, pairs well with apple watch.. top app.

Such a great app. Love it so much. So easy to use, so helpful. Can’t recommend enough!

Good for planning your own workout. Would give 5 stars if it had more saved exercises and I don’t have to search the web for info or photos. Also should be easier to move around routines from the home page.

Lack of customisation for disability / injury. I have a arteriovenous malformation in my forearm which makes it dangerous to do exercises that put stress on this area. There is no easy way to nominate parts of the body that should not be used in exercises. Even after I nominated that I only had lower body gym equipment avaikable and specified I only wanted lower body and core exercises, it keeps prescribing exercises that would be dangerous for me because they involve lifting free weights with the upper body. Very poor for a ‘smart’ app that requires a paid subscription.

LOVE THIS APP!!. Can set up all my workouts on the phone and have them handy on my watch when I workout

Amazing app!. Probably the best workout app I’ve tried. Definitely worth the subscription. Thank you for changing my life.

Potential, but a major flaw. This app makes it really easy to choose exercises and sets, but it desperately needs rep ranges and a way to let you enter specific representative amounts for each set (particularly on the watch). Most people work in ranges (8–12 or 4–6, for example) for exercises, then record a rep number for each set, which might end up being 12, 11, and 9 for 3 sets of an exercise. It’s not enough to say you can edit each exercise, which is way too fiddly and time-consuming. Supersets on the watch app are completely confusing. I have no idea how to tell it I’ve done a set of the first exercise and am onto the second. The way it counts the sets is baffling, as it always seems to think I’m finished when I’ve done 2 of 3 sets. I’m regretting the tome I took setting it up and using it, and I’ll not use it until it gets much better. Over-priced for very basic functionality at the moment.

Everything you wish. Expert training app that is simple to use.

Greedy company, disappointing customer. Bought this app when it first came out, now it wants to charge again for some “premium” service. I mean is this how you treat a customer supported you from the beginning? Very disappointed. I have never had an app company charging the customer again like this… Just so greedy.

Useless with missing functionality. It would be good except that you can’t input your sets as you go, which means you have to know your entire workout before you do it (reps, sets and weights etc). This makes it pretty useless.

Love it!. It’s always been good. Finally, the ability to change weight on Apple Watch was added. Now it has everything I want. :) keep up the good work guys

Great app. I’ve tried many workout apps and none compare to SmartGym. Simple and easy to use.

Lacks essential features. Includes limited set of cardio exercises for treadmill, bike etc but only allows time and distance, need to be able to set level. This also applies to farmers carry (need time, distance and weight) and crab walks (time, distance and band strength). Also lacks other standard equipment such as battle ropes, kettlebell, etc.

A great app, but requires a subscription. Tried a 3 month subscription, once it was done I decided the free version was enough and let the subscription end. I can no longer access my data or use my account without a subscription. It’s in the T&Cs if you read them. Hope that helps someone from wasting their time.

Amazing app, great user interface. I have used this app for about a year and a half now. It’s is absolutely outstanding. The Apple Watch app is amazing, it works flawlessly. I love the work guys, keep it up!

This app has the potential to be king pf fitness apps. This app paired with Apple watch has the potential to be fitness app king. I really like how it tracks heart rate during workouts. I would like it to improve how it logs sets and reps on a particular workout. Its not able to record varying reps at this stage.

Great, just pricey. Love the app, but can’t really afford to pay for monthly subscriptions at that price on top of a gym membership

Best Gym App I’ve used after testing 8!. I recently got an apple watch and was looking at gym apps. I'm experienced at the gym so wanted something that could allow me to customise routines, add my own exercises, modify settings on the fly, be able to use it without my phone, sync seamlessly between phone & watch, have a timer for some of my isometric sets and rest periods. I tried about 8 other apps and the moment I used it, it felt intuitive. There was some issues with the Apple Health App & Smartgym so I reached out to their customer service they responded within a day and helped me fix the issue even though it was an Apple issue. Finally, it is one of the few apps that has a non-subscription one off price and has a free trial!

Love this app. Have been using the app for a few months now, and after a couple of little teething issues, genuinely believe the app is fantastic. The automatic program updates/changes help to keep things interesting and challenging. Certainly worth the every cent of the subscription.

Love the watch integration. I love the watch integration so I don’t have to carry my phone around the gym.

Easy to stay on track. I love this app. It keeps me honest, I’m use to having a personal trainer to push me but now I don’t need one. It’s fantastic to be pushing myself to increase my weights and change up my routine so I don’t get bored.

Great app but move buttons up on Apple watch. Buttons sit too low on the bottom corner of the Apple watch (series 8) men’s watch. Seems I need to scroll up to then push the button. Please adjust so it doesn’t sit too low as this is frustrating that we have to touch the screen twice to achieve something that should be only once. Please also ensure iPhone when linked to an Apple Watch is runs as a live activity and constantly keeps up with the Apple watch. It seems app disconnects with the watch and have to resync it throughout a workout. Having the two run in sync and appear as a live activity would make this app stand out. Perfect otherwise.

Good, but needs subscription. I didn’t bother with subscription didn’t want to pay, after about 3 days I could no longer start my workouts as it said I needed to subscribe, I was really annoyed as I thought this app was great. I loved how you can put iOS 14 widgets. Hope this helped!!

More expensive than other better apps. Free versions is also more restricted than those better app’s free version.

Love love love this app. I have been using SmartGym for several years now and absolutely love it. Love the fact that you can customise your workouts. It keeps track of sets and reps. I don’t have full subscription but not sure it’s necessary. Definitely 5 star.

Need improvements. This app doesn’t allow user to enter rep for each set. This isn’t practical because the number of rep is different between each set. I like the way that “Strong” app implement this, but they are more expensive with their subscription, so please improve your app so users can enter rep after each set.

Good up but very buggy. The app is great but the bugs are extremely annoying and customer support does not respond to emails. Workout history shows the correct logged sets and weights but when I start the routine the next week a bunch of the values are reset to 0. The lack of customer support for a paid product is extremely annoying.

Review. I really do enjoy this app as it helps my track my weights but I wish there was more options for equipment my gym has machines that’s aren’t available for selection! Also maybe an option to add Cardio!

Pls stop fixing the bugs..... ....you’re making the app worse than it was.

Great design but ... Design is great but once again, it takes too many clicks to edit your reps or weight. If you go to the gym, you are supposed to do progressive overload. Which mean you potentially improves reps or weight every workout. It should not take so many clicks to edit reps and weight, it should be ready to edit without any clicks

Equipment you own doesn’t work. I’ve entered the equipment I own 3 times, yet every time my routines get updated, the assign exercises using gear I don’t own. When I revise the equipment list, again, nothing changes. I reached out to customer service and got a reply “Oh that’s interesting” yet despite multiple follow up emails they didn’t respond with a solution

Sgt Taylor. Great app, loads of exercises and easy to follow directions.

best work out app ever!!. the best app to know how to start working out! shows your progress, the muscles your working per week, the exercices you achieve, gives you the option to replace anexercice with another if its too difficult without it disturbing your workout! its got even more futures! just simply the best! you should try it if you're looking to work out and don't know where to start, they also have a free 14 days try outs and you can cancel anytime.thank you so much for this app!

Great app. Adapted for me

Really helpful to get started. Really easy to get started with a plan. The measurements section isn’t nearly as intuitive but it isn’t the primary use for the app so not a big deal.

New update fixed. Good support team great app

Not good. I dont like its not super helpful

Impressive app. Ive been using the app for a week now and have teally enjoyed the workouts, the Smartgym App is using a FB of exercises based around the equipment I have available, if i need to change an exercise, I can hit edit and modify between exercises! I will be buying this App.

Great app! 👏. Perfect for the Apple Watch. Pleasant and easy-to-use interfaces. No bugs. I trieds other apps and this one is my favorite. Good customer service. I train at the gym and this app helps me a lot. The first month of use I gained 5 lbs of muscles, by discovering new exercises. By following my charges, I can increase them more effectively. For those looking for a free app, people who make this app must be paid in a way! This app is worth the price considering all the useless gadgets that some are willing to pay to lose weight and by healthy.

Really good app!. There are several exercises and everything adapted for the equipments I have available!

Amazing and least awkward way to get help in the weight room!!!!. Just my first time using it but damn it’s good!!!!

Bonne application d’entraînement. Si vous avez une Apple Watch, l’application se jumelle avec la montre pour un calcul plus juste des calories dépensées!

Great app, just needs couple small things. This app is extremely good and I've used all the major workout apps. My favorite part is this app has a one time fee option where you pay once and quite a few features are unlocked. The price is very reasonable as well for the one time fee option. The one time fee does not include the cloud features and a few others things but I am okay with that as I really only want it for my Apple watch. The Apple watch app is one of the best I've seen. The only other one that compares is Gymaholic. The reason I like this one more is because of the one time fee vs monthly fee with Gymaholic. The only features they need to add is another couple vibrations for when rest period is up on the Apple watch. They currently have one vibration but adding another couple would be great as to not miss that single vibration. Another feature that would be great would be the ability to quickly look at exercises. Right now you have to edit a routine and then select add new exercise before being able to browse exercises. It would be nice to quickly be able to look at exercises with a tab at the bottom. Overall I'm extremely impressed and will change my review to a five star rating if either of the above features get Incorporated. Cheers! Well done developers. Update May 13: A major feature they are missing in this app is a timer between exercises. They currently have a timer between sets but that's only for that particular exercise. There isn't a timer between exercises which there should be. This makes the Apple watch app need a bit of improvement since there isn't a great flow into the next exercise. It sold be seamless like Gymaholic which I admit has a better flow into the next exercise.

The Best. BEST workout app I’ve seen on the app and keeps getting better. Would love to see more mobility & corrective exercises in future iterations. Also love to see targeted muscle visuals and maybe some written overview of correct exercise form.

I love this app. Smart gym is perfectly designed to do exactly what you need it to when tracking your workouts. It works so good on the apple watch and the new AI workout creator saves so much time and keeps my workouts fun and fresh!

Not bad, but not worth what it costs.. This app was featured by Apple so thought I’d give it a try. In short, the app is…alright. It wouldn’t be too bad if it was a one-time purchase of $10 or so. I browsed the AI-powered workouts, and they looked like pretty standard programs I’d get anywhere else — without paying monthly. I did a couple of the workouts it suggested for me, and although I entered 45-60 minutes to work out, the AI-generated workouts were all well over an hour after factoring in rest periods. The Watch app is where this app struggles though IMO. Switching between exercises isn’t easy or intuitive, and I can’t figure out how to change the weight of a working set without going like 3 menus deep in the app. All in all, 3 stars because it has potential. But I’ll be going back to my other app. Probably won’t use the full trial period on this one.

Great App. Great App that I highly recommend without hesitations! Some flaws: Timer between series (the timer between repetitions works nicely, but at the end of the series it merely says to mark the exercise as done and goes on to the next without a timer) Complex interface: it’s not an intuitive system, you really need to sit down and learn how to use its features… Equipment: the list is very short… and actually misses a lot of equipment and exercises (and no I don’t want to lose time adding exercises… I’m paying not to do that) Complex notes system: There is a difference between the what you’re supposed to do and what actually happens (eg it’s written 3 x 12 rep @ 25lbs; but you may have done 2 x 12 rep @ 25 lbs and 1 x 12 rep @ 30lbs)… I know this feature exists on Apple Watch, but never found it on the iPhone… Will keep digging! Strange AI: that seems to be thinking in KG then translating this in LBS (eg AI suggested 26lbs, 33lbs), rather than in pounds, ie the North American standard Hopefully this will get fix soon! Again this app is great!

False advertising. Spent data to download this only to find that there are only 5 free workouts. Why say it’s free?

This App is Amazing!. I’m loving this app. You can choose from one of the pre-set workouts or build your own. I started with the preset but now have my own workouts built. I love that I can set a timer between sets and totally customize my workouts - number of sets, reps, weights, routine order. Also the history tab tells me what I did and when I was at the gym and for how long. There are a ton of exercises you can select and modify. You can also see a demo of the exercise and there are links to YouTube videos if your still not sure. It does take time to set up your own workouts but if you want results and want to track your progress and know what sets and weights to do each time your at the gym without having to think about it this App is for you. I bought the year subscription and feel it was definitely worth it. I personally think this is the best app out there. I don’t usually review apps but after 3 months I am very happy I did. I hope this helps someone else decide if it may be good for them.

Great app but could be improved. Great app though it would be great if you included stretching routines too.

Very prompt response from developer. I had an issue with discovering how the live activities work. He got back to me withing 5 mins. Great job

Update broke Apple Watch sync. Nice work. The Apple Watch app already sketchy when I don’t have my phone with me. Now it’s unusable. And you guys need to have a sync to Strava. What’s the matter that you can’t do that??

Unable to import backups. App is good. Watch app is a little janky and importing an exported SmartGym file onto another device doesn’t work. Had to drop sub because of that.

Não é tão bom quanto parece.. Ele tem uma gama boa de exercícios mas gera uns treinos bem ruins as vezes.

Perfect. This app is great works well with Apple Watch I use this every day

Use it very often. Syncs across entire Apple ecosystem

Great workout partner. The app is intuitive, good features and routines. I have it four stars only because the Apple Watch and phone app don’t communicate very well together, which to me is a critical as I wear the watch when working out. There are some other bugs, such as super-setting exercises don’t sync rest periods well and there should be better announcement of rest time. Aside from those minor things, it helps build a routine based on your goals and equipment. Recommend!

Unbelievable App! SO WORTH IT!. I NEVER write reviews. The Smart Gym App deserves my gratitude! I wish I could invest in this app. Can I? Because I think it’s going to take over the fitness industry. It absolutely helped me so much to learn how to help myself in the gym. You know when you just love something so much you don’t even know how to express how much it helps you? That’s how I feel about the Smart Gym app. It helps me feel less alone in the gym, I have a sense of direction and a trainer on my wrist. I can update my workouts as my strength increases and it has! I have been weightlifting for over 30 years, but I’m the last year I have finally committed to my fitness goals, with the help of the Smart Gym app. I have improved my fitness level SO much with the help of this app. I originally hired a fitness trainer, and I was so frustrated by the expense and constant communication. I’m a busy person that is trying to make time for my own self-care. I didn’t have time and energy for that level of a relationship. This app gave me everything that I needed for A YEAR for less than the price of one session with a fitness trainer. Please tell me how I can invest in this app!! FIVE STARS!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Amazing. Just loved!

So much potential. Lack of polish. I absolutely love a lot of the features that this app has to offer. While that’s all said and good, unfortunately there are issues plaguing my experience. It’s nice to see proper integration with the UI and Dynamic Island into to the apple ecosystem. Unfortunately it’s just clunky to navigate in both iPhone and Watch apps. The syncing between the two devices is very hit or miss, sometimes it’ll log my reps in, but also it wouldn’t update the phone in realtime. Very complicated way to update reps and causes confusion. Starting rests on the watch doesn’t sync with the phone and doesn’t activate the Dynamic Island integration. Having a rest feature outside of in between reps is also an essential that is missing in this app. While there is a lot good here, there’s also the bare fundamentals that this app isn’t offering, especially with that price tag this is unacceptable.

Nice. Nice

Integrates the Apple Watch well. Very impressed by this app. Easy to use. What my home gym was looking for.

Amazing app, great routines. I love this app, it’s been 8 months of continuous use for me, using this alongside a few jogs a week. I have lost 32 pounds and increased my endurance and stamina with smart gym strength training programs. I love the ability to input what equipment and style of training you want and then it spits out a routine for you. I especially love the fact that it switches routines over time to keep you progressing. Also the hiit workouts for days that you can’t find time for the gym are great. The only thing I have to complain about is it sometimes doesn’t link with my AirPods or will stop making end of break noises halfway through a routine. Honestly it’s not that big a deal, just an annoyance. Solid 4 1/2 stars

Exactly what I needed!. This app is exactly what I needed to get started as a beginner! It built a comprehensive workout routine based on equipment I have at home. Incredibly intuitive and highly recommended!

Useful app but has some bugs. when a workout has been paused and then unpaused and completed only the heart rate data and time before the pause is recorded the rest of the data reps, weight show under summary but the total time shows something like 7 minutes and only 34 calories when the workout was 40+ minutes; workout summary also just shows a fixed calorie amount at the end regardless of how long you workout. If you forget to open your watch app and want to add the hr data, you cant. You also can’t modify the data which is annoying. If the data isn’t recorded by the app at the time of workout you are out of luck.

Worth the money. I would put an extra star for the watch app

Good app. Good app a little pricey. But worth it if you are serious

Not as advertised. The smart feature has yet to work for me. I initially adjusted repetitions and weights manually a few times. According to customer support, the smart feature only works when weight and repetitions are not manually edited. However, even after many workouts of not manually adjusting anything, the smart feature does not work. I regret paying for a whole year for this app. I cannot recommend it.

Do not try premium. Tried Premium and did not like the advantage. Trial expired and can’t use the app anymore.

Bait and switch. Crazy expensive app that pretends to be a free app. Edit reply to dev: Now you're just being deceptive. You cannot use the app for free. The first thing you're required to do is buy a subscription or a trial for a subscription. There's no free use. Stop lying. I'm reporting your dishonesty to the app store review team.

SmartGym: Excellent app. SmartGym is an excellent, very useful and easy-to-use app. I just can’t exercising without the app!

Great training app. Intried a lot of apps a so far this one is the best fot for me and price is great too!

Easy and accurate. Very good app. I’m a beginner at the gym and with mini tutorials of all workout types is so helpfull

Not good! Can’t even get refund!. I don’t use it at all. All basic exercises and not clear as the animation is not good. Waste of my time using it. By mistake I downloaded and can’t even get refund! 😟

Wayy too intuitive to use!! love it!. The integration with the watch, smart trainer, easy to log sets and understand the exercises among others make this app stand out. Thank you for this app!

Great App, Overcharging. This app would potentially be the best workout app in the App Store, but the subscription prices are just too much. I was recommended this app from research that said the app was a flat charge of $3.99, which is reasonable. Unfortunately, now the app makes you pay $3.33 per month at its least expensive subscription level which is ridiculous. They do allow you to use the app for free, but you are limited to creating only 2 workout routines and recording only 3 workout sessions. Really? The app is useless unless you want to pay $40 - $60 per year. The app should either go back to having a flat charge, or drastically decrease its subscription prices. Why should I have to pay $40 a year just to create my own routine?

I don’t write reviews but…. This app has helped me get back to loving the gym! I’m building my schedule around my workouts again. I love that you can select the equipment you have and change the expertises. Great replacement exercises. The timing on the app helps me train at the proper pace. As a tech person who has designed many things, I can say that this is a really good interface. Lots of flexibility. One improvement I’d love to see is when finish a set and rest, I’d love for an option of a voiceover for remaining time and rest over instead of having to keep looking at my phone.

Great app. This app is great.. I am a personal trainer and do a lot of lifting and CrossFit. So, I normally don’t like to use an app to show me a work out. But I am in my third trimester of pregnancy, and being able to have an app that you can modify to the equipment you have at home and have workouts already set up for you that you can modify by switching in and out different workouts based on your level of fitness is awesome. And having the number of reps in keeping track of your weights and sets is amazing. Even after pregnancy I will continue to use this app.

Pretty good some annoyances. If you accidentally complete a workout you are totally out of luck. No way to undo that mistake. I would appreciate a setting to make the watch app not pop up. I’ve bumped my watch a few times causing my workout to get screwed up. Stop popping the app back open if I’ve dismissed it on my watch. I’d uninstall the watch app but it stops a significant number of things from working in the app. Considering going back to Fitbod, though I find SmartGym’s workout generation to be better currently.

Great app. Some suggestions.. Love it. Use it multiple times a week. Please consider adjusting the automatic exercise updates to only include reps/sets. It doesn’t make sense to up my weight from a 25lb dumbbell to a 27lb dumbbell. How does one do that?? Would love to see exercise equipment list grow and be more specific. Yes I have dumbbells and kettlebells, but only a couple of each. Not everyone is working in a fully stocked gym. I’d like to be able to specify how many and what weights I have and have exercises be presented to me based on that. Keep up the great work. This app is only going to get better.

No Low Tier Paid Option. Installed it. Checked it out. Deleted it. I don’t need workout programs because I’ve been weight training for over 30 years and know what I’m doing. I just want to be able to track reps/sets and health data that my watch can capture during the workout. I want to be able to put in my own routine that varies in reps/sets weekly but keeps the same exercises. I want to be able to view the history and trends of the data. That’s it. I’d be more than happy to pay $10/year for that functionality, but it’s nowhere near worth $60. I’ve been in software development for 25 years and know what it takes to build what I’m looking for, especially when you’ve already got a platform built out. If they ever decide to offer that, I’ll try the app again. But, for now, it doesn’t do the job for me.

Good & almost perfect for weight lifting. Very good app that has everything weight lifters need to track and organize their workouts. However, it could be made even better and more versatile if there were an option for CrossFit people or athletes that focus on running/sprinting. I personally am a sprinter and I do sprint sets. It would be a great idea to add a way to record sprint sets, distance, and time. Perfect app for what it is but just an idea to throw out there and make it that much more useful.

Great fitness app. Really liking the very clean interface and ease of use while working out! The ability to auto generate a workout based on the equipment and time available is really handy. Since I travel a lot this helps me create something on the fly with every hotel having varying equipment but then having my consistent routines available when I can use my home gym. Also one of the best Apple Watch experiences I’ve had while working out. Customer support was also very quick to respond recently to an issue I had. All around great experience!

Love Love Love this app. Ive been using this app for two months now and I absolutely love it. Its easy and adjustable, its inclusive and creates easy to follow plans. Update: I have been using this app for 240 days. It makes workouts easier to understand and use. Especially because it syncs with my apple watch. Having ADD, this app also helps ne stay focus with the sounds to let me know when rest is over and when to start next set. I went from 212 lbs to 181lbs since using this app.

Not a free app at all! Literally nothing is free. It’s at best a super limited free trial then it literally locks out every single button until you sign up for a subscription. Which I find super funny that they think so little of their customized workout plans that they have to lock the smallest options behind the pay wall. Because having a ai couch was so worthless they sided with greed and deceit and listed this app as a “free with in app purchases”. At best that statement is false advertising. At worst the people running this app are corrupted by evil and the sinful ways of greed and gluttony. I uninstall after the “limited free trial” as at this point the app doesn’t have any functionality what so ever for me. Not that it had much more then a fancy stop watch to begin with.

App needs some polishing. The app really has some very nice, well thought features but it needs some improvements in the technical department. It sometimes crashes and erases a couple of days worth of historic data as a side effect. If you care about your workouts history and like to check out your data visually, this will upset you a lot. Another complain I’ve got is about the Apple Watch app: touching anything on its interface almost never works. It’s quite common to try and go back a screen (either by tapping on the top-left back button or by the swiping gesture) for several times until it responds. That also happens with some buttons.

Great, but could be awesome.. I am bad at being disciplined on going to the gym. One of my biggest fears is getting there and looking dumb because I have no clue what I am doing. This app has given me confidence in my routine and in doing so I am less intimidated in working out. So far the only complaint I have is the app freaks out some times between the iphone and my Apple Watch. They don’t mirror very well. I know the app is supposed to be independent between the two but I like using both during my workout. Nothing I can’t live with tho.

Amazing App & Support. I’ve tried many workout apps out there, and this has to be the best one so far! It connects to your Apple Watch, and it has its own interface for it which is amazing! It allows you to create custom workouts, has hundreds of workouts and sessions and overall I’m pleased. I had a concern about custom workouts not saving and the app would crash, I emailed support, they got back to me right away & the next day the update was ready to go on the App Store! This tells me these guys are constantly working and improving the app itself!

So far so good. I’ve really been enjoying the functionality of this app. I told it what equipment I have available to me to use, and it automatically created some routines for me. It guides to to progressively increase your progress by suggesting changes to your weights or reps. It suggests new routines periodically, all based on your use age. The more you train, the more suggestions it will provide over the weeks. It really takes out a lot of guesswork. Highly recommended for beginner to intermediate lifters like me

Easy, effective, customizable. This is my go-to workout app. I use it multiple times per week and have created a half-dozen workouts for exactly what I need. Great for customizing your own workouts or picking up on suggested routines. Works really well with my iphone and watch. The one thing it doesn’t do/have is a high variety of yoga-like or stretching exercises. I have to use another app for that, and I wish SmartGym had those incorporated into the routine/exercise options. But even knowing that, I still definitely recommend if you are looking for a GREAT gym/workout app.

Awesome. As someone who has always had a limited knowledge of weight training exercises, this app has shown me so many different workouts that target my muscles in new ways. Even if you’re experienced and knowledgeable, this app is good to track your workout progress and suggest new ones. I don’t go to the gym as often as I’d like (typically weight training once a week) but after using the workouts on this app for about 3 months about once a week, and eating relatively well, I have noticed my muscle tone has taken a big leap forward.

Get the app. End of story.. This app works. Yeah it is $50+ for the year to use it fully, but you can theoretically choose to pay for it one time and then using it will mold you to be able to workout without it… OR you can just keep paying for it because it is awesome. I have learned so many new exercises because of this app and no longer have the fear of going to public gyms and looking clueless. I don’t workout without it. Get the app.

Needs greater focus on consumer usage. I have used SmartGym for almost three years. During this time, they’ve rolled out smart trainer, trx exercises, etc. A lot of extra features are rolled out before fundamental features such as an updated exercise library or increasing the number of custom exercises customers are allowed to make or specify set type. (These are standard in competitor app Strong.) Basic functionality such as designating a warm up set or selecting a drop set or a set to failure is not possible in the app. There just seems to be a greater focus on cool features to get featured on Apple lists over function. I’m sticking with SmartGym as long as I can for the addition of basic features before switching apps.

APPLE WATCH AND GO. I've been using this apps for a year on and off. I've tried the other apps but this one is so easy to use and keeps me focused in the gym. My custom routines are set but if I want to add something for that day it's easy and quick without lowering my heart rate. If you have the Apple watch look no further. I never have to use my phone. Just keep it in my pocket and work from the watch. The team is doing great keep it up I would love a community aspect of it for more socials and motivation but the app is great

Excellent Routine Creation/Tracking Tool. Really nice App. I’m not a hard-core gym rat but I do have several routines I like to cycle through. There are tons of workouts to choose from based on area title targeting and whether you want to use eueipnent or not. Further, you can choose HIIT versions, rest options with audible notification and even methodology (circuit, supersets, etc) The only thing that would make it 5.5 Stars for me is color coding of created routines. The App allows a quick-glance of past routines in a Pareto chart format. If the created routines could be individually colored it would be VERY easy to pick up where I left off with a simple glance.

Workout generator. As physical fitness firemen we always research different workout apps. We try find the ones that mostly benefit or jobs, but also to fit for us and our families. We must continue as firemen to look after each brother and sister NO MATTER WHAT JURISDICTION!!!! I believe if we train for us all. We can not only save our own, but care for our police men an women as well. May you to stay strong and keeping being fit. This workout generator is absolutely awesome it’s 10 star for me so far. Thanks to the application provider.

Great workout companion!. For users experienced in the gym this app is the perfect companion it automagically writes workouts for you and updates/changes them to prevent plateauing. For users less experience in the gym it is a nice companion but not an all out replacement for a trainer, while it does write workouts for experience level and display pictures of the workouts so you have an idea there is just no way to correct form. My only wish is that it learned the movements for each workout as you complete them so it could count reps and possibly offer some guidance on certain movements form.

This app is the reason I got an Apple watch. Disclaimer: I use this watch app 90% of the time, my reviews is based on my experience with my watch. This app truly deserves a review for its great execution, it makes my gym workouts seamless! My favorite feature is Smart trainer, it guides you every step of the way and increases you workout intensity throughout time, wether you go to the gym or stay at home. It has curated workouts, it allow me to log my supersets, lets you see an animated image to teach you how to do certain excercises and most importantly, register workout data, like calories. What would make this a killer app? It would be cool to have ability to Auto-log a set based on hand motions registered by the watch. Additionally, I would like Voiceover to be available not only for HIIT workouts, but also for any workout with multiple exercises! It would be cool to hear when my rest is done and what my next set is. overall, I love this app it’s just missing those two features!!!

Great app with stupid issues. Overall ,compared to many other apps, The app is great when it comes to compatibility with apple products including Apple Watch, fitness plus’s etc. the Smarr updates are great most of the time and the selection of exercises include hybrid of pro and home gym equipment. Problems with the app are confusing because they could be easily fixed or fine tuned. For example if you are a beginner , it will be confusing to understand the weight the app is suggesting. It seems the app flipsbetween several methods at once ( counting one side plate weight only/ both plates +bar/ plates on both sides). Also measurements don’t seem to have an impact on personalizing smart updates. Some exercises which require alternating are written in the same way as an exercise intended for one side to focus on a specific muscle. Those that require alternating are confusing to enter your logged numbers because the app is designed for one set only. Logging different set is confusing as well.

The Best for My Purposes. I’m a more-than-casual but less-than-fanatical workout person. I like to track what I’m doing at the gym, including type/weight/reps/number of sets. I also rest between sets. This app covers everything for me. I even emailed the developers several times with some questions and issues that were quickly resolved. Although the free version has everything I need, I upgraded to the one-time payment (not the subscription) as a “Thank you” to the developers. I highly recommend this app.

The best pound per pound!!!. I have been testing for a month all the applications of this type that offered a version for the Apple Watch. And I think this is the best in all aspects, especially when you use it on the Apple Watch (I also think it's the only one that has support for the Apple Watch Ultra action button) It is also worth mentioning that the last application I tried was FitBod, which is excellent but its version for Apple Watch leaves a lot to be desired and its subscription is twenty dollars more expensive. And finally, this app should be in the top 1.

Love it!. I am relatively new to working out and I am not one to go to a gym. I have looked everywhere for a workout program to do at home but everywhere I looked I kept getting different information and different adv. I downloaded SmartGym and entered my information as well as the equipment I had and SmartGym created a great work out program for me. I’ve used it for a week now and I love it. The integration with my Apple Watch is wonderful. I finally feel like I have found a workout program that I can stick with and will grow with me!

Need to signup before you can proceed. Downloaded the app after seeing it so highly rated. Opened it. Wanted to check it out before deciding if I should keep the app and sign up for a free trial. Alas, no option to do that. As soon as I launched the app, the pesky pop-up is there. Either first signup for a 7 days free trial or restore purchase. The “quit” function is an infinite loop. Yes I get it that there is a 7 day feee trial, and I also know that this free trial is a good business (psychology 101). Sad to see that Apple now allows these types of business models.

Steady decline. I’ve been using this app for about 2 years now. At the beginning everything was fine, I was impressed. But 2 years of tweaks and “improvements” have worn away at the quality. Originally you could choose to start an iPhone only workout or have it sync with their watch app. It now default to their own Apple Watch app, which I find lags behind the phone app. HIIT workouts often glitch, at best the sound will cut out and at worst it will stop in the middle of the workout. The routines it generates are still great, and the app is very sophisticated so I can’t be too critical. But it’s time for me personally to move on

Everything I Need. My first impression of this app wasn’t good. I was under the impression that in order to use any pro features you needed to subscribe. I am not a fan of that idea. However, it turns out that buried on the subscription pricing page, there is the ability to pay $9.99 for the local features: unlimited routines, custom exercises, charts, logs and works with Apple Watch. Literally everything I wanted in an app. I immediately paid for it, and today I enjoyed my first workout with the app. The watch integration is fantastic. The app itself is easy to use. I can now recommend this app wholeheartedly.

Perfect Workout App. I enjoy that it lets you create routines and then adjust them. The visual representations of the exercises is a tremendous help to make sure your doing it correctly. All in all it’s obviously the best app for planning and executing workouts. No need for some special trainer since this thing does it all. The choices you have for selecting the length of your workout plus the muscle targeting makes this purchase well worth it. I tried a lot of other apps and this one hands down beat them all for what I was looking to accomplish.

Can’t beat this app. The app has a full, FULL, range of exercises for the novice, intermediate and maybe a gym pro. I’m no pro so I don’t know. The price on this app is superb. Full range of any exercises wether you’re liking at weight loss, growth or gain. I’ve tried other apps (if you’re reading this, I’m sure you’ve tried other apps, too). Using it, I’ve put on some muscle and like where I’m going for the first time in a long time. Get it, try it. No long or expensive memberships. THATS the cool thing here.

Seems like a nice training app so far. Really only had this app for about a week now, but so far it seems good. I like being able to share with family. I do think it’s lacking in equipment customization so you can put in what size dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, etc. are available to you. Also, some suggested starting weights would be nice as an intro and then some rating as to whether the reps and weight was ideal. This may come as I complete routines and log more workouts. Being able to select several routines and exercises is very nice to get you started. I don’t feel like the workout routines are very intuitive and it would be nice to have some changes as the sessions progress (again, perhaps this comes with logging more workouts). Syncing to Apple Watch is awesome! It’s convenient and easy to log complete sets though it takes some effort to modify your sets and is easier on the iPhone. Overall satisfied

Potential is there to be great. The app has great potential, but in my mind is missing some things. The positives are that the routines are easy to create and modify. I like that my available equipment can change and the routine will be altered to match. The only issue I have is that I want to start a workout, but add the exercises as I go. I know the purpose is to work the focus area, but there are sometimes that I want to have a day where I focus on what I am capable of. I saw the button “start workout” but it won’t let you add type, weight or sets to track progress. This could hopefully be in the next update to make this app great.

Good but time is funky. Routines do not appear to respect the time set which is frustrating. For example, I’ll set it for a full body workout for short duration (10-20min), set to hypertrophy, and it gives me 6-7 exercises with 4-5 sets each. Who’s doing that much volume in that short of time? It’s not the equipment that’s throwing it off either. Have all free weights and cables enabled. I also have another chest only day set for 10-20 mins for “strength” and it gives me one exercise, 5 sets, with 4:00 mins (!!) rest. That’s too much rest. All I want is 2-3 exercises in 20 mins at the desired set and rep ranges. The app does not seem to do this very well. Please fix and it’ll be an instant 5-stars

LOST 25 Pounds in 6 months!. I started my weight loss and journey in January and it was so difficult for me. I found that I had a lot of barriers to me working out with gym equipment and then I found SmartGym. It’s always scary to lift weights especially if you don’t know what exercises and reps to use. SmartGym is like having a friend who knows how to workout with you. They make it so easy to learn how to use gym equipment and even how many sets and reps you should do when you workout. You will build confidence in your ability to workout and then feel more comfortable building your own workouts and tailoring them to fit your goals.

Push notification before you can access your account but only after you purchase a membership.. They force you accept a push log and download all info on your phone before you can start. After I purchased a year membership, but before I was allowed to access the app I was forced to download my information from my phone to the cloud. I tried to refuse but the app or system would not allow my access to the app. The same screen would pop up saying I had to download my info from my phone to the cloud before I could access my account that I paid for. I checked out their privacy policy and it a standard policy. (We won’t share ur info unless subpoenaed by the court).

One of the best workout tracking apps I’ve tried. As the title reads, this is one of the best workout apps I’ve tried. Being able to track my progress across devices (iPhone, Mac and Watch) is amazing. Would love to have offline mode because there are some areas of my gym that doesn’t have good reception; ending up with sets with wrong data because the changes couldn’t be saved. Also, using the iPhone and Watch at the same time can mess up the progress. Today when I tapped on end workout only the first exercise was registered; I had to log all the set info again. Without these issues it would be a 5/5

Not a feature, but a bug. I too was very unhappy about the 3.0 update because it looked like the pro features I'd already purchased had been lost. After talking to the developer, it turns out that was a bug in the update that didn't automatically re-enable my old pro features, but "Restore Purchases" brought them back. I don't know if the new features are things I'd pay for, but now that I know I still have full access to the old ones I'd already bought, I'm happy to have the new ones as options.

Great app, but requires too much unnecessary manual editing. I’ve been using the app for a while and have been generally satisfied with it. One thing that causes a lot of user pain the lack of auto-increments. I expect the app to increase the weight if I hit all sets/reps with selected weight during the last workout. Right now, I have to manually increase weights (or reps) for each set of each exercise, and look up what I logged last time (in case I failed to hit the goal). Some other apps that I used in the past have this auto-increment feature, but not SmartGym. Am I missing something? I can’t imagine that all users edit exercises all the time.

Best way to stay focused. I was skeptical about buying another workout plan on the App Store. I just used it today and was so focused and got through a Back and Biceps workout in a hour. I always used to check my notes and was too concerned grabbing my workout book to move on. So happy and would recommend to anyone who is serious on being in the gym verses texting friends. Very simple to use and the majority of the exercises are in there and if you are making up your own exercise you can add the name. I love that it syncs with Apple Health. Seriously I am pumped to get back in the gym because it’s now fun! Thanks to the app developers.

Incredible app, incredible support team. I’ve been using this app for about a year, and it’s the best workout app I’ve ever used in the 10 years of using workout apps. I love that it keeps your workout fresh, and works amazingly well on an Apple Watch. I recently ran into an issue where exercises weren’t appearing on my watch, and support contacted me immediately, and they were able to help me find the solution in less than 10 minutes.

Seriously, this is a pretty awesome app!. I 100% recommend this app. I don’t like carrying my phone around the gym so it’s amazing for that. I play my music using wireless bluetooth headphones and can look at all my workouts simultaneously. I definitely recommend the full version if you like to have an arm day, chest day, leg day, etc. But the free version is very cheap and it’s worth it! You literally walk into the gym, press start workout and it you’re told everything you need to do. Of course you have to edit your workouts on your phone first. You can edit how many set, how many reps, how much weight, how must rest, and if you want to superset it.

Fantastic budget app. The AI does a good job of adjusting routines based on your performance and you have the option to override if something needs adjusting. Couple o’ notes: - I do wish it was more intuitive collaboratively. For example, when the AI generates a routine, instead of it either taking it as gospel or manhandling it, I’d prefer a middle ground where I can select exercises for the AI to switch out. (It would also be great if I could choose to target the same muscles or focus elsewhere) - It would be great if the “stretches” field wasn’t reduced to a notes section. The AI should assign some stretches based on the activated muscles. I feel like this is something that should already be in effect. - An “I’m injured” option would also be great to maintain streaks when exercising is out of your control but most fitness apps don’t have this, so it’s fine. If you can afford to work with a trainer, you definitely should. But this is a decent alternative.

Perfect for a trainer in these times. As all gyms are closed what’s a trainer to do? Every trainer is posting videos of themselves on Facebook or trying to do zoom classes or whatever. I just want to design workouts for my clients that they can do at home with equipment they have or no equipment at all, and be able to track their progress. This app (with the personal trainer in app purchase) let’s me do that. The exercises come it’s animated illustrations and lets you add exercises and pictures if they don’t have what you want in the database. Perfect.

New to Gym - Smart Gym makes it TOO EASY. Current student at University of Cincinnati. Our gym is incredible, yet huge and overwhelming. After consulting friends for exercise suggestions, I plugged all of my info into the app and WOW it could not be easier to use. Counting sets, reps, weight, and rest times for you, all you have to do is get yourself to the gym. It’s actually like having a workout partner with you giving you all the info/help you need; including little GIFs/motion images that show you how to use the machine. Connects directly to my Apple Watch - which is what drew me to the app in the first place. So I tell Siri to start and off we go! :)

This is exactly what I needed. I’m a beginner and I have been going to the gym for about a month now and I haven’t seen much improvement so far because I don’t really know what to do. I had no schedule I wasn’t sure which stuff went with what vague schedule I had so I’m really glad this does all of that for me. Plus my gym is really crowded and the dudes are always hogging up the free weights so I just took that equipment off now I can work around that. This is great if you are self motivated but need some direction

Great Fitness App. Love this app so far. Lots of exercises and also the ai to create workouts for you is impressive. Here’s why I only gave it 3 stars: 1) The search feature needs improvement. Without a filter search option for exercises by muscle or body part you’re forced to scroll all the way down. And even if you type an exercise, if you don’t type the exercise EXACTLY the way it’s listed it won’t appear. Like I was typing dumbbell stepup and couldn’t find it. Finally scrolled down as it was listed slightly different. 2) Doesn’t work well with MyFitnessPal and Garmin. Don’t plan on buying an Apple Watch so this is disappointing. When I opened MyFitnessPal it didn’t pull in the data. Even after trying to sync w Apple Health 3) Would love ability to add drop sets Would also love some specific CrossFit exercises and workouts. If all these are added as features I think this could be a game changer. Otherwise it’s a great start to a promising fitness app.

Muscle gains from SmartGym. After bariatric surgery, my surgeon told me that he had been working in his field for 35 years. He said, “You’re in your 60’s, and I am a few years older than you. The best advice I can give you is, to keep this weight off you must lift weights.” He went on to explain how my metabolism will increase, I will burn more calories when I’m idle, and increasing muscle will hold off the effects of aging like sarcopenia. By using the 3 days per week hypertrophy program with adjustable dumbbells, I feel young again!

Mostly great but still has some MAJOR issues. I own the premium package which cost me money. Recently, I got a trainer. For whatever reason, in order to use my trainers ability to share workout plans, I’m have to log out of my paid account and create a new email address, and sign in with that email to get support from the paid package my trainer has. I emailed tech support and they offered NO HELP at all. Why pay for a plan I can’t use?!?!?! All they need to do is allow premium customers to be able to tie our existing accounts to trainer accounts.
