Espresso from The Economist Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

No longer able to increase the speed of the audio version. As always, this is only a review of the app. If I could rate the economist it would get a 6 out of 5. Unfortunately I noticed that the iPhone app no longer supports the 1.5x and 2x speed listening option. Please bring this back!

Sometimes there are bugs. Overall great. Sometimes a podcast won’t play or the regular espresso is yesterdays espresso. Sometimes the espresso just won’t play at all. But I’m general this app is great. Get all your daily news in audio format if you like and then if it is not enough, there is a thirty minute intelligence podcast to listen to that is pretty good that they put out every weekday. I listen to this while I brush my teeth in the morning.

Used it for years, it’s broken.. First off, there are ads. You pay for this app every month and they still have advertisements inside the app. 👍 What the killer was though, they updated the app and removed the ability to see the daily overview for up to a week before. Now you can only see the current day. It’s basically worthless at this point if you don’t open the app every single day. Uninstalled and stopped paying for this garbage.

Superb except for a screen-fitting bug. On my smaller phone, iPhone SE, the quote sections that show up at the end of the reading sessions frequently fail to print the entire quote of the quote is longer than a few lines. This is probably because the app is designed for larger screens but it is also a concern since this only became an issue with more recent updates. Please fix it. Thanks!

Not getting better ..... I have used the app for at least 5 years now. It’s my usual cycling companion. Little by little I have watched the engineering decline and judgement grow worse. Bluetooth buffering has been a consistent flaw that they can’t seem to get right. On certain devices when there is a pause, the resumption is delayed. Poor QA practices. UI is not really improving and in the audio section is plain bad. I pay for the subscription. Can I expect not to have to “swipe left” to avoid the upfront ad? The swipe is poorly done so 3 out of times you end up clicking. That’s called a clickbait - is that Economist wishes? When first introduced, it was annoying. Now that it is always shown even when you are simply returning to continue on the article you were reading or listening to, it’s just plain offensive. You think that extra half a cent worth the damage to you brand’s image? Poor judgement on the app diminishes a great magazine.

Best daily news summary. This is one of the few apps that open on a daily basis every morning. The writing is exactly what you expect from the Economist, which is the only magazine I subscribe to. It's nice to have a short, concise summary of the news to read as I sip my morning coffee.

All I Need to Know. I read both the Espresso and print versions of the Economist— although neither thoroughly. I love the crisp writing. The organization of both also makes it easy to choose what I want to read.

Annoying, minor and easily solvable technical issue. This app had one minor annoying issue, it won’t sync what is read across devices. I read it on my phone in the morning, but when I open my iPad in the evening the stories show as unread. This is a Minor issue, but perhaps working across multiple devices and having slight OCD are a combination more common in readers of The Economist than in the general population. Since this happens 6 days a week, it merits being fixed. Thank you.

All hail economist. Articles are well researched and balanced with links to more in depth articles. A welcome respite from the news blather of the trump era. Kept me sane. And I love the quote of the day. Complaints. (1)Sometimes with breaking news the North American version publishes late. I read at breakfast. (2) I know your photos are copyrited , but occasionally I’d like to copy them to my photos, this is not straightforward on an iPhone. Keep up the good work.

A great second to the economist.. I spend a lot of time reading the economist articles, and find them quite interesting and knowledge dense. Of course, sometimes I do not have the time to read my daily article, and this is where ‘espresso’ saves my time. The articles presented in the espresso version of the economist are, knowledge dense and short. They have made my daily intake of news a lot easier and a lot faster.

It has become a habit. It's amazing how they present you with a collection of articles that involves politics, business, arts, social, sports and technology news, all in a simple way that helps you catch up with what's happening around the world daily in a matter of five minutes. Two thumbs up!

Disappointing. The selection of short articles is very limited and the articles are not very informative and lack depth -they are very superficial. Not what I expected from the Economist whose magazine is noted for its depth of reportage. In addition it is quite unclear how to stop the automatic subscription renewal - $2.99 per month. To stop the auto payments you have to access itunes subscriptions from your Apple account under Settings - not an intuitive process. Beware!

Needs ability to view previous days. Ive been using espresso since it first came out and i love it. The new version is really visually pleasing and they did a great job structuring it. The only reason im not giving it 5 stars is cause the old version let you read previous days posts. Some days we all forget or are busy but i would still like to know what the news is from that day. Maybe im just not seeing where that feature is in the new version…

Beware - incredibly difficult to cancel subscription. The app itself is a pretty basic source of news, the issue is with their subscription model. There is no way to cancel your subscription within the app or even on their website! I called their customer service number and was told I have to call ITunes directly to cancel. For an app to not have a way to cancel its own subscription is a joke. There are much better sources of news out there that don’t make you jump through hoops to cancel their subscription.

Espresso is good but…. Although still my favorite source of economic and political information, The Economist’s multiple offerings have now lost their individuality. There is too much duplication of articles and promotion of the main newspaper in newsletters. I don’t understand the promotional value of this strategy-has it worked; i.e., has The Economist’s market research shown increased subscriptions, holding other variables constant)?

Why did the currency and commodity page go away?. Miss being able to see previous days, like the audio option. Many links to other economist related stories, helps also.

Beyond the financial & Economics. I found the constant articles daily, The Expresso is cuts to the meat; finance and economics, covering social issues and political issues which round the foundations of civil society. As all aspects converge on the Economics, the issue of scarcity & maximizing utility. All behavior, Social & Political are fundamentally occurring by Economic decisions! That’s what Expresso brings you in a daily brief!

Boiled down to a science. I love this side app, hooked along with the Economist issues, gives me a good quick brief in the mornings before I get down time to open my long form issue. Different versions of a great thing are always welcome. Shout out to the writers and editors, excellent journalism, editing, and writing work. A steady rock in the rough seas of news lately.

Great content, no notifications. For news readers seeking a global perspective, this app has excellent content. The layout is easy to read, and a widget is available to review top headlines at a glance. If there was a way to receive notifications for when the app was updated with unread stories, I would give it 5/5 stars. A good example of a news app with notifications is the Tech Top 10 by The Information.

The perfect morning ☕️. The Economist Espresso has become a valuable part of my morning routine. It provides the same quality global reporting and commentary in flowing prose that I have come to expect from the Economist Group. It survey’s recent stories I should know. And it is especially effective at covering global news which others fail to cover. The most valuable part of the Espresso app is its brevity. The app allows me to read the news in a tight morning schedule without going down the online news rabbit hole. Like many, I strive to get the quote every morning as a reward for reading all six pages. Keep up the good work!

Love it; wish it would pre-load the articles. This app is one of my favourite parts of my morning routine. It's also simple and to the point! One thing I wish for is for the content to always be fresh and pre-loaded *before* I open the app every day, so that I can access the content even on my underground commute where I don't have access to the internet.

Quick way to get interesting news. The economist is my preferred news source because it covers the big stories but also those not often seen on mainstream sources. I like that I get both of those on the Espresso app as well as the trivia quiz question and my beloved quote of the day!

New version is USELESS for subscribers. Please, please go back to previous version. This one is just embarrassing. Where is the the CURRENT (i.e. today’s) version of The World in Brief? What is the POINT of even using this app if all there is to read is OLD news? Please allow users to SCROLL through WiB pages from previous days in the week. This app USED to be a useful way to quickly access the day’s leading political, business and financial news. Now it is little more than a collection of links to outdated articles on the Economist app, which, as an Economist subscriber, I can already access via the magazine or its very good app. If this app is now to be a separate tool to offer a watered-down version of the Economist, please clearly indicate it as such. Extremely disappointing.

Great way to start the morning. I’ve always liked the economist because of its substantive articles, and getting a quick round up of the world news every morning really makes me feel like I’m keeping up with the important events that are going on.

I love Espresso in the mornings. Aggregating the most important news in the world is no small thing to do, but The Economist has managed to do it. My only complain is that sometimes the exact same versions of the short articles make it to the The World this Week section of The Economist magazine, but other than that, great read in the morning.

Excellent App, but room for improvement. The app delivers on its goal of giving you a brief look into the world; however, the app could be even better if there was an option to expand upon the story you are currently reading. Also, it would be very nice if a notification popped up in the morning to facilitate your going into the app.

A great morning perk. The app is simple - 6 stories: all short and concise. It is a great companion to the weekly Economist as it provides more timely insights on the days news. I also appreciate the dry humor and photo captions I look for from the Economist. It is nice to get a taste of what might be coming at week's end in the magazine.

News from previous days of the week. I liked it when in the old app i could switch and see the previous day’s news during the entire week

Amazing way to start my day. Best way to start my day and get the most relevant global news. Enough details to understand what’s going on but short enough to spend only a few minutes every day with the quality that characterizes The Economist!

Much improved interface, unparalleled news. Seems like most of the kinks have been worked out of this app finally. I used to have an issue of it pulling up the last days news I had accessed before I had to force it forward to the current day. No longer a problem. Great copy and coverage. Love the quotes at the end. Please make an Apple Watch version!

Great way to start the day. If all you have each day is a few minutes and you’re tired of the 24hrs r new cycle mostly regurgitating the same info all day everyday, the Espresso helps distill the cacophony of news each day into a single powerful update. While I enjoy reading the short clips each morning I have really come to look forward to the quote of the day. It has been my favorite part for all the years I’ve been reading the Espresso. I enjoy checking the stories each day in Espresso but I do miss the ability to jump back to a day I missed (especially for the quote). I wish there was an archive of quotes of the day!

Clean house listen to the Economist. Sometimes I don’t have time to read the economist. I just listen to it now When I am walking or cleaning. Then I review it reading it it’s amazing how much I don’t hear when I reread it. The app is fast it is clean and it works well.

Short and sweet. I like that this app gives a highlight of news for the day that I can read through in less than 5 min. It doesn’t have endless headlines and distractions, and if I’m interested in a topic I can always search for more about it on the main Economist app or NYT or wherever. This is a simple app that works well and doesn’t feel like it’s monetizing my attention

Read it every day as does my son!. Excellent way to start my day, but takes time away from reading the full magazine. A weekend version would make it even better. However, Saturday's is light and the daily quote now is usually cut off! Please fix.

Just the right news in the right time. Espresso provides me just the right mix of world news updates and ideas to consider over my morning’s first coffee. Exactly what I was looking for in online briefing.

When you want a quick look at the news of the day. I read this first thing every morning. It’s a good gauge as to whether I want to read more in a full length newspaper and also useful when I’m short on time but want to briefly know the world news. I like that you can change the focus of the report to different parts of the world.

New updates bring regression. Before the “new format” one could see articles from that current week in case you missed a day. The devs took that away! What are they thinking??!! I believe they are trying to Pavlovian train us to open their app every day. I use to love this app, and overall, I like the new format, but taking away the ability to see some past days makes this app expendable to me. I have unsubscribed in protest! Please bring this back, plus the quote of the day. Won’t resubscribe until you do!

My daily shot of espresso. I use this app daily to get a quick brush up on the big news in the world. So far the stories have been very intriguing and well written. I highly recommend it to those looking for a fairly unbiased and high quality news source.

Excellent News Pick-Me-Up Source. The Economist Expresso provides shots of today’s news and information to help you get a good feel of what’s going on around the world. I can quickly read it and eventually dive further into a particular topic later. Great news source!

Ideological selectivity. I enjoy the daily update on events around the world but I am getting disillusioned by your annoying, and ideologically driven selectivity. For example, in today’s edition you report on an attack on the US Capitol without mentioning his race (black) or his political affiliation (devotion to Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam). Such reticence would not have been on display if the attacker had been a member of the Proud Boys. It is well past time for The Economist to return to critically objective and balanced reporting of facts that has been so obviously lacking since July of 2015. David M. Rowe

Excellent perspectives, perfect size. Read it every day at lunch!. Espresso gives me quick, detailed and thorough updates on the days news that I can read during a quick lunch. And the daily quote a highlight of my day!

A Nice Dose of Calm. In the morning, I tend to make my coffee, meditate for 10-15 minutes, then read Espresso before moving on to something else whilst sipping my bean-water. As part of my morning ritual, Espresso gives me a good boost in thinking while making me a laugh out loud every so often. It’s well-informed data and links to Economist articles furthers my understanding of what’s going on in the world today. Plus, as a sucker for a good quote, the last page of the report makes me happy. Overall, a great use of time every day.

Essential Reading. I read Espresso every morning to get a quick and trusted sense of what is going on in the world. I also find the daily quotations that close out each issue to be thought provoking. I have lost count of the number of years I have read Espresso.

What a relief!. The American press has become so extreme and so shrill that it is often hard to listen to. Half is woke beyond reason and the other half finds fascism appealing. The Economist and Espresso are a breath of fresh air. Not only for their depth and breath of coverage but they’re calm headed analysis and delivery. I listen to the audio versions and prefer the British accents to the American but that’s hardly a dealbreaker.

Great news app! Bit-size format. This review was already written as a standard message from the app itself, but I am editing this initial statement just to confirm that it reflects my exact feelings about the app; SUPERB! Could not ask for a better news app that keeps me up to date with the most important financial and political news on a daily basis! Great job guys!

Best news app ever!. This is an incredible news app! I've never felt more motivated than now to keep up to date with the news. This app carefully selects a handful of stories each day to read and you can track your progress by checking the boxes next to each story. Easy to use, excellent journalism, up-to-date and objective news briefings. Highly recommended!!!

Just the shot of news you need. Instead of focusing on opinion based, hastily researched screeching about current events, The Economist’s Espresso presents small doses of well developed analysis regarding news from the entire world. It’s all the broad scope of the weekly periodical, but doesn’t require the time equivalent of a second job to read. This is the antidote to the sound bite addicted, 24 hour news cycle.

Content is fine, IF you ever receive it. I’ve always loved the Economist and have read the print version religiously for over thirty years. But their apps (and their subscriptions department) are truly terrible. This app will refresh only about 70% of the time. Every third day, good luck getting the news. It’s also the only app on my phone that regularly crashes. On my phone it looks fine, on my iPad it doesn’t expand to fill the whole screen (it’s “iPhone-sized” but in an iPad screen). The app won’t rotate from vertical to horizontal, even if Screen Aspect is unlocked. Finally, there are different versions floating around in the App Store, so you have to be careful about which one you are getting. My advice: stick to the print edition. (IF it ever shows up on the front doorstep, it’s a great read!)

A+ app from an A+ publication. A pleasure to use. Perfect for people like me who can’t deal with the nonstop (and almost all US-related) media/political noise, but are still inherently interested in the world. Not a surprise, then, that with expert reporting and analysis from TE’s superb writing team, the app is as nicely designed and enjoyable to use as its content is to read.

Start your day with a world view!. Less than five minutes and you will be brought up to speed as well as learn about a place you may not know well. With links to long form articles it is as indispensable as coffee each morning.

A Great Way to Get Great News. I've used the app since the outset of my economist subscription, and I can say assuredly that this is an excellent way for those in a rush or who just prefer a more condensed version of their news. If you have an economist subscription you should utilise it to its fullest potential and download the app.

Amazing value!. For less than 20% of what I spend on coffee each day, I get amazing quality news bites from around the world! Just perfect for my commute, I now stay informed without being force fed garbage mainstream media narratives!

Great read, excellent format. Perfect start to my day to read a good selection of well written short updates around key events or issues in the world. Even better now with the Saturday version as well!

Love it. I love this app so much! It's the perfect accompaniment to my morning commute on the train, delivering bite-sized pieces of news so that I don't miss out on anything for the day. My only comment would be that it would be ideal if an audio version of each short article were offered so that I could listen to it while I'm driving.

Misleading subscription rates. There are two subscription rates for this app promoted on the App Store. But only one of them( most expensive one) is available when the App is installed.

All the news that's fit to flick. The only problem with the Economist magazine is that there's too much to get through every week: Espresso gives you just enough to stay ahead and be well informed, in a well designed format and a very fair price. Essential - it's pretty much the Goldilocks of intelligent news.

Nice little news bites. Does just what it says on the tin - 95% of the time. It’d be good if day editions were stored or saved locally by default, or at least give the option to do this for places where immobile connections aren’t great. Also some UI quirks and inconsistencies from time to time.

Keep it up. Reliable concise reporting. Keep them coming.

Great app but... Quite Satisfied with it, but could we bring back the daily view of key market indices, exchange rates etc on the last news ? Thanks !

Forced to write a review!!. I could not seem to avoid writing this review! Hopefully I can now return to the App and read my quote of the day. Hopefully the quote of the day has not been hijacked by a marketing executive. 😬

Morning Expresso with a difference. Excellent updated app from The Economist in easily digestible form getting you the news you need at the start of your day wherever you are. Once again a brilliant component of the excellent Economist sub I’ve enjoyed over several decades. Keep up the great work.

No longer works on my iPhone. In the past I read espresso every morning. Now the latest version is stuck on the preamble screen. Please correct, I need my daily news update.

5 Star always. The Economist articles are precise and accurate with good predictions.

Ok so far. I have three complaints so far: 1) the largest font size available is still far too small. I can’t read articles on the train without drawing phone irritatingly close to my face. 2) in-app links don’t work. I press the link, but it doesn’t take me to the linked article. 3) when i click to open an article from the website in the app it doesn’t work promptly - or at all. I have to first force-close the app then click the “open” website link. App definitely needs improvement.

Great idea, poor execution. Excellent content as one would expect, and a very good concept for a news app. However, poor stability and slow load times make this app excruciating. Also, the content would be ideal to read over breakfast (with an espresso) or on the bus, but the latest edition is rarely released before mid morning. Lots of improvement required if I'm to become a paid subscriber.

Great reading and informative. The economist gives a fantastic update and analysis of the world today. The app makes it easily accessible and the opportunity to download the voice files makes it easy to listen too when traveling.

Globally Equity Market. Updates on Global Economics together with the political leadership News is better.

Sum & Substance. Everything written is a punchy Clear summary with complexities boiled down to their sum and substance 👌

Text size. Great concept but it has no function to increase the text size (like that available on the main app). Or if it does, I can't find it. It doesn't matter if the news is in short 'espresso' bursts, the fact remains that if readers don't have great eyesight they need to be given that option.

The daily hit that improves you a bit.. Insightful, global, yet quick to digest. The perfect complement to the daily news grind.

Perfect but for one thing. Despite being a paid app, this app also seems to contain full screen ads with no visual clues on how to skip them (swipe). I don’t mind ads but it’s a bit rich having such large and obnoxious (and irrelevant) ones in an app I’m also paying to use. Ads aside, it’s a good app - cheaper and concise access to daily highlights from an otherwise prohibitively expensive publication.

New Update - no more free use. Use to love this app and would read the news updates every morning. However since the new update - there is no longer 1 free article each day. So only bother downloading this app if you’re happy to pay $30 a month for your news. I think there are better alternatives for that price seeing as this is supposed to be just bite sized news stories.

Adam review of economist. Always good content . I’m travelling a lot these days and enjoy your podcasts . Charlotte Howard has a very clear , nice voice to listen to .

Great way to start the day. Great app to flick through while having breakfast and starting the day. Interesting stories from around the world in bite size form. Would recommend.

One recommendation. Overall this app is good but there are times that links that flow on the the economist main page requires a login. As I have both the espresso app and then main economist app, I don't see why I have to keep logging into the website? This extra barrier will always stop me from reading the main article as I can't be bothered to log in each time

Insightful and succinct news app. Insightful and succinct news every morning with The Economist's analysis of the day's politics, finance, culture and current affairs. Plus an easy to read and navigate format with a bonus quote at the end! A morning ritual since Espresso came out over a year ago.

Buggy for Audio - I wish they’d support podcasts. I mainly listen to the Economist. The App is a poor way to listen. Why have Economist insisted on creating their own audio capability when millions of developers are already working on podcast players?

Great news in a quick and concise format. I would recommend espresso to all - those with busy work/family lives with little spare time available and also individuals that want to be up to date with world events without being overwhelmed by quantity of content.

Almost there!. The Espresso app remains amongst the best things to do to start a day, full of interesting things to digest and the app has come along way since it started. But still there is the problem of waiting for a perfect net connection to download the days data. Whereas every other news source allows “near enough is good enough”. Other than that - great!

Disgracefully hard to unsubscribe.. I have tried many times to unsubscribe and still cannot find any way of doing it. Incredibly frustrating. Expected more of a publication with as much credibility as the economist. It’s just disappointing.

Paid app with ads. Literally the only subscription app I know of with ads. Cancelled.

Come up with an iPad version. There, I’ve said it

Global news snack-size. Such a great way to get a handle on global news in the time it takes to drink a cuppa. What a great way to start the day.

Strongly recommend to make the audio text available. Enjoy reading it cause it does save time

Comes out too late. The news update comes out too late for Australian east coast users (and I imagine New Zealand!) I need my news available at 6am, otherwise i won’t get to it. This seems to come out between 7 and 8.30, and not at a consistent time, meaning I rarely get to read it.

Brilliant. Love the insights gained in just a few moments stolen to catch up on news each day.

Small & efficient.. Daily delivery of news briefs from The Economist. Works best with a full subscription to the magazine to access more detailed content. App is stable & not over-burdened with advertising.

Great App. news in brief around the world - great round up of what’s happening around the world without having to spend a whole bunch of time

Best world news daily feed out there.. Love this little news gem. Readily digestible news bites that pack a real punch. Get it.

Brilliant News App. I have been a regular reader of the Economist magazine's Espresso app since its inception little over a year ago. It provides a daily summary of current events in the Economist magazine's understated style. If you like the reading the Economist magazine, then you will surely enjoy this app.

Great start to the day. This app provides a fantastic intro to the day and I love reading through the morning’s article over a coffee. A great offering from this paper.

Love the morning update - voice audio would be great though. Loving the quick morning update but would be great if there was an audio version so I can listen in the car rather than having to read everything. Keep up the good work.

Hog quality great content. Excellent start to the day

Where did the playlist function go?. You used to be able to download and listen to the audio sections in the order that you want. For example I like to listen to Business, the Science and Tech, then choose which region, US or Europe depending on what had happened in the last week. Since the new version release I can no longer do that, I'm forced to listen in order of top to bottom. I think it's a real shame that feature is lost and would love to see it back.

Direct, well presented and concise. As with all products from The Economist the Espresso is a well written and well presented review of the immediate stories of interest. I would recommend it to anyone who has a limited time to catch up with as much news possible.

Good. Epic and cool

Espresso a day keeps the mind awake! Short sharp - sometimes bitter sometimes sweet!!. Enjoy the sharp, sometimes blunt, often humorous and thought provoking summaries each day!

Not worth it. Economist expresso is not worth the subscription fee and is also impossible to unsubscribe from

iOS 9.35 Flash Back. My system is iOS 9.35, but the app is always flash back when I click.

Good, just mind the sexist language. Sparse and punchy writing style, which is loved. The sexist language is appalling for a liberal publication. Eg references such as “the tax man” or the default pronoun being “he” are outdated and not appreciated. A few more quotes from women and a few more stories on gender would be good.

My first morning read. Short and sweet first read

Colloquialisms. Using the word ‘dear’ to describe something that is expensive is hardly appropriate for an international magazine.

Starting the day with a credible summary of news.. As a passionate reader/subscriber of the Economist magazine for many years I appreciate the early morning Espresso. The quality of Espresso like the magazine make these my go to for global information.

Works as advertised.. Simple, intuitive interface.

Great, just one problem.. The app is great! I did not regret subscribing through the website. The only problem I’ve got is that when I try to open it, the app just crashes on me. This happens a few times and I don’t really know what to do about it. Other than that, this is a solid 10/10. Would definitely recommend.

Free one?. Where is one free article per day after updating

Canada. Parler plus Souvent du Canada qui fait partie du G7 et dont les problèmes et situations sont souvent semblables À ceux des autres pays

Bite sized news. Short and to the point. Look forward to it every morning. Took advantage of the $12 for 12 weeks. I’m not sure if I’ll continue for $42 for 12 weeks. But I do really enjoy it.

Too much password. Great app, too much password. Security isn’t that important - this isn’t my bank account and a refresh token will work just fine

A perfect balance of the weekdays and weekends. When you see clear headlines of economic, political and finance news (such as bank earning increase on Wed April 18th, followed by 2% outperformance of the sector the next day) during weekdays and an introduction of Rodin’s art work together with recent exhibition in the British Museum in Saturday’s edition, you would be compelled to give this app a 5 star.

.. ….

IPad. Expresso will not rotate to landscape format on my iPad. I have to tip my keyboard holder on its side. That would not seem to be a difficult fix to fix. Andy

There is no better app in the news market. Fact, fact and incredible content, this is the app you need with your espresso shot in the morning. Thank you to all the economist team to relentlessly provide premium content.

A perfect shot to start the day.. This app. Is the epitome of efficient delivery. Informative and to the point, with unobtrusive links to expository material, not a word is wasted. To top it off, each instalment includes a timely quote of the day. Perfect.

Last pane no longer accessible. After reading each page the final page that should show the daily quote won’t come up. The screen is read and says “6 read one to go!” As if all pages were not read .

Best magazine in the world. Appreciate the balance, depth, timeliness and wit. This is the magazine all others should be judged by.

A great snapshot for the day. One star deduction for slow loading times. other than that, it's a good encapsulation and sometimes fun

Keeps me informed for minutes a day. A daily reading is less than 5 minutes and keeps me up to date on what’s happening around the world and in the news. Links to investigative stories do a good job of providing more information when needed. Between this, email updates, and special reports the economist is my most trusted source of news.

Why mostly quotes from men?. I love the app but I’ve been using it for several years now and noticed that the majority of the quotes of the day are from various (mostly white) men. Some diversity would be nice!

Well worthwhile. Short, refreshing summary of major news stories

Great way to stay up to date. Great stuff, love it, been using for a few years. The only thing missing is an ipad version 😬

Access to previous days’ news?. Hello, I enjoy reading the Espresso. I just wish I could see how to access news for the previous few days, as I used to do in the prior version of the app. Thanks, and have a good day.

Supplementary. The articles are very broad with a narrow perspective on outcomes. This gives the reader a refreshing outlook on current world affairs. I particularly enjoy looking at the supplementary graphs, charts and infographics that complement the articles. Bravo to this app!

Expresso. The putative offspring of the most well written weekly news magazine. Plump it up by including at least one pivotal article from its parent.

Short and Sweet. Always a quick update on the day’s international news with a world perspective. First thing I read after emails.

Loss of options. While the new platform offers a better experience. I unfortunately, I now can’t access archived daily news.

Good overview but can be a bit cryptic. Covers the main events. Quick to read

Great content; limited app functionality. The one star held back is on layaway pending modern streaming capabilities (cast, airplay, etc) aside from simple Bluetooth.

App Support. There does not appear to be app support. The login function is not working

No index page. While after updating, the index page was removed. I found that page useful though....

Downgraded. This is a very good summary news app, unfortunately n the latest version you cannot see previous editions of the week, so missing a day means missing the stories without considerable effort to go find them. That put a significant functionality downgrade in what was otherwise a pleasant upgrade on performance and reliability.

Great app, wish you could view in landscape. Love this app—stories are short and to the point. However, on my iPad, I can only view in portrait mode:(

Bite-size essential info. Convenient length of articles. Essential daily information in an easy to navigate app

Concise, thoughtful global updates. Unique Economist style in bite-sized, snippets gets me up to date fast; covers wide range of topics.

Espresso. Works perfectly, provides a summary of world news each morning. The Saturday science supplement is a welcome addition.

Stopped working. Stopped working a few days ago

Where’s the markets in brief section? And why do you keep logging me out?. I really liked the markets in brief section of Espresso, and yet when I updated the app because it keeps logging me out and saying I don’t have a subscription when I do, that section is gone! It was really helpful and just perfect, so why did you remove it? And it’s not in the Economist app either when I downloaded it! Please bring it back. :(

Review. Very concise, an essential morning briefing. What smart people read.

Logging me out. The app keeps logging me out every day, very annoying.

just doesn’t work. the full Economist app works great on my iPhone 8 running iOS 16.1. the Espresso app gets stuck on the page that says: “What to expect” (Daily…. Weekly) no option to scroll - only a “back” arrow in top left. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling the app, no joy.

The New Espresso, now with less Content!. The new version of the Espresso no longer has the “Markets at a glance” page. This latest iteration has less content yet consumes more time to digest. Espresso? No, sadly it’s no longer the quick shot to get your day going.

Sharp. Timely, relevant, quick and occasionally pithy.

Great news bites. Espresso is a wonderful daily read. It won’t keep you informed by itself but the content it provides is great, the price is right and the ads aren’t the least bit intrusive.

Review of “The Economist Espresso”. “The Economist Espresso” gives me factual, unbiased, and timely information about important current news events six days a week. It’s a great start to my work day.

Great, but could be better. Bite-sized morsels of news, although it should be delivered earlier in eastern North America. Minor bug: Have a look at a longer article on an iPhone Mini, I’m unable to scroll to the very bottom of the article.

Espresso: wake up to world events. Reading the Economist Espresso is how I start my day. I find it covers a cross section of news stories around the world that I wouldn’t otherwise get from local media outlets. It also provides links to more in depth articles so I can follow my interests. Thanks for keeping me connected to the “World Stage” with Economist Espresso!

Small serving size, big flavour. I find myself using this app far more than I expected, under all sorts of circumstances. The information is impeccably presented, and I’m downright impressed how big ideas can be compressed and packaged into such short entries. If that’s not a recommendation, I don’t know what is!

C ca pis c toute. Quick, informative, objective and covers much

Almost perfect. I’ve enjoyed the Economist since the days when a print subscription was the only option, and Espresso was an excellent addition. Getting a quick daily snapshot from a trusted source is good value in my busy life. To make it more nearly perfect, let me go back a few days or a week so even when I was too busy to check in I can see what I missed. When this feature was available I used it several times a month. Now that I can only see the items from today, it feels like I should look for a news subscription that lets me see back issues. I’d rather that was Espresso.

👉 Are you looking for an Adsense alternative advertising platform?

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!

Quick and fact based. Keeps me in touch when I’m busy very quickly

Quick Read - Quality Info. If your time is precious, here’s the key to no-nonsense information - provided in a format that respects your intellect while getting you the essential facts you need to start your day.

“Economist” a day. The weekly issue of the Economist contains so much important news and is so large it is almost overwhelming. A morning taste and reading the magazine later in the day seems more relevant and a lot easier.

Great Daily Snapshot. I love this app! It is a great daily snapshot of news that just takes a few minutes to read. Always includes compelling photos as well.

Can’t access on iPhone X. It’s impossible to get past the What to Expect page on an iPhone X. There is no “Next” button, so you can’t move onto the actual news…

Incredible news app. I read Espresso everyday and I can’t imagine my life without it. The stories cover a wide range of issues and are wonderfully concise. I cannot recommend it enough!

Recommendation. Once a daily update downloads, keep it there and only refresh it once a full update has downloaded. I’m sometimes caught on the train with it attempting to update, but unable to read anything.

Great design, not a fan of ads. Unlike for print products, if I am paying a monthly subscription for the app, I do NOT also want to see ads. This is an unusual idiom for digital apps. I’m sure that people - particularly Economist readers - will pay to not see them.

We’ll written connection to international news. The economist consistently has well written perspectives on international news. I particularly enjoy the longer term perspective compared to the usual microburst I read elsewhere.

Expertly written. The app offers concise, well written articles daily offering insight into geopolitical issues and news. Unequalled in their approach to issues the app offers a daily digest of news that matters.

App is 5/5, subscription is 0/5. The app is great, get it. However, lately the app has told me I don’t have a subscription when I’m paying for it via Apple. It then tells me to subscribe via The Economist (for more money than I’m paying on Apple). I have the receipts to prove it. This is a straight up scam and should be reported as such. The Economist should honestly be ashamed of themselves.

Double espresso please!. Brilliant idea. I will sign up for sure but 10 stories would be better than 6. At least expand the number of headlines a bit.

Quick lap around the world. Expresso can be read in less than 10 minutes. I start here and then dig into the details with Apple news. Topics are broad in scope with more economic news than most.

Essential stuff. Espresso, aptly named, is the quick, everyday fix of news and analysis that distills all Economist content down into quick bites. This is quality, essential stuff. You need it!

Amazing. This app is so easy to use and fluid, not to mention the actual content the Economist puts out every day to fill you in on the day’s news. 10/10, would wake up early to read again!

Good app. I like the app however since the app update you can no longer see the daily stock market updates. Not sure why they removed that in the update.

Notifications. I really liked this app, but over the past few months, the daily notifications have been glitching. I just don’t get them anymore. It really ruins the experience.

Something’s missing.... ...oh yeah! THE MARKETS AND CURRENCIES PAGE! Come on, Economist. I cannot fathom why you pulled the Markets and Currencies page out of Espresso. If you’re not bringing it back, you owe it to your subscribers to explain why. And if you are not bringing it back soon, for whatever reason, be prepared to start bleeding subscribers...including me. Bring it back!

Brief, yet complete. Provides easy access to an overview of the latest news, and links to extended coverage where necessary. Summary is reliable and good for prioritizing reading. Clean interface, slow startup and access on older devices.

Global news in a nutshell. This is my first review for an app. Reading Espresso has become part of my morning routine. Its global sweep of bite-sized, must-know news is refreshing and is just enough to stay abreast of what’s going on.

Short and flavorful. Since I trust the Economist, Expresso is a quick and certain way to know the world's top stories each morning. Graphics add value. Well done!

Keep the Expresso coming!. I recently subscribed to The Economist and Expresso has been a great lead-in. I feel like I'm more in tune with the news without being overwhelmed. Even when I miss a day, I can easily catch up because it's so concise.

Mostly better. The new UI is nice, but I miss the ability to easily read previous days’ issues.

Hoping I can download the audio. I usually listen it when I am driving so hope it can download the audio when I am in WiFi and don’t waste my data usage.

How do i subscribe?. Seriously, it asked if I wanted to restore, it asked if I wanted to log in. When I looked at About, I swear it told me when the E. was founded, and why, not about the app. Contact Us is still in covid mode. They think I’m going to make a phone call to England. Can anyone here play this game?

Delightful experience every morning. The app provides a super experience when it comes to news highlights. 7 concisely written stories on what to look out for during the day.

Have to read everyday. After working out in the morning, reading Espresso is a refreshing start of the day. But distance from other popular channels, espresso has characters and uniqueness.

Annoying bug. Since last update it tells me six stories to read, but after looking at them all 6/6 it then says 6 read, one to go! No nice quote of the day. There is no 7th. Grrr.

Works well for me. This app has functioned well for me. It’s a quick way to get an idea of significant world events each day, with market statistics and links to read more as well, though the options to learn more are limited if you don’t subscribe to the magazine.

Excellent Journalism. I enjoy reading the many different articles on so many different subjects that the Economist regularly presents. Keep up the good work!👍😀

Loving it. Love the fact that it’s short, it gives me the gist of the story, don’t have to read 800 word story to know the basics. If I want more then I search, but this is just great. Of course for a US audience there’s too many UK news, but I’ll take it, nice to see outside our borders.

Economist Espresso. I love the app. Every morning while in having breakfast I read it, because it gives me an overview of the most important news una brief yet informed manner. Could not recommend it more.

Trade Off on Upgrade. The update incorporates multimedia but loses some valuable data tracking from the previous version.

Weekly feed. I miss the weekly feed. If I don’t manage to read it every day I could always go back and read it but now it’s been removed from the app

Simple layout & brief articles. I wasn’t getting through the whole newspaper every week, so this is a perfect alternative.

Quick and to the point.. Love this app; I downloaded it with my new subscription. It’s layout is very appealing. Night mode option is great. I feel like I’m getting relevant news without having to scroll through social media B.S. 🤗 😏👍🏽😎

Less Trump more news. Thank you for not having news of Trump every single day and informing on all the other issues that take place around the world.

Easy to read, efficient. Really easy reads to start your day. The app works well and makes it easy to read, but I wished there was an iPad version, like the Economist app - reason why I'm not giving this 5 stars. I like the dark theme. Keep up the good work

Great for quick news. It’s hard to find substantial but short articles. Right now, Espresso seems to be the best at it. This is for when you don’t feel like committing to a full article, but still want to learn the latest facts.

Very efficient and witty to boot. A smart, focused brief of highlights of the current events . It takes about 5 minutes a day to consume the whole enchilada. There is even a light seasoning of witty word play to help with digestion.

Good breakfast read. Love skimming through the succinct blurbs to start my day with some general awareness of the world 🌍 even if I don’t understand all the politics or numbers. I read this version of the economist to fulfill my curiosity then I confess, I usual switch back to scrolling through instagram

Best News App. The Economist has always been one of the most sophisticated sources of news out there. The fact that they were able to connect with the new “A.D.D.” age of America is another sign of their keen sense. This is my favorite app and I start everyday with a cup of Joe and Espresso.

Quote of the day still truncated. This is a great App and I love this format to get important summaries of the recent events. I noticed that the new version corrects the presentation of the quote of the day for some screen sizes, but it actually did not correct the problem for regular size screens. I have an iPhone 7 and the quote, unless it is very short, always get truncated. Example: quote from Charles Babbage, October 20th, Europe version. If you could correct that, it would be awesome! Thanks!

Audio edition is needed. Some great content in here but my morning news intake generally involves podcasts as part of my commute. So this is not my go-to. It would be awesome if they provided an audio edition. Then it would definitely be my #1. Also - duplicate notifications are a problem.

Great app for someone who doesn’t pay attention. I struggle trying to find news topics to explore that make me feel well versed in what’s going in the world without too much of bias. The economist does this for me and Espresso makes it concise.

Great to get tips need in short amount of time. I like that I can read reliable information about the worlds top news stories in a short amount of time.

Resume ability to highlight and lookup text. I read Espresso everyday, and I've been an Economist subscriber since 1999. The most recent version of Espresso is the best one to date. Navigation between pages and days could be smoother, but overall it’s a pleasure!

Left Bias and Anti - American. Has a strong left bias and often anti-American sentiment. It has good economic news but you have to sort it out of their leftist propaganda. I was hoping that a paid service like this one would give unbiased news. Sadly it’s just another propaganda machine.

An Oasis of Erudite Sanity. Living in the USA, with many competing sources of news, most of them partisan and US-centered, I find the Economist Expresso to a a concise and civilized overview of significant world events. Many if these do not make the US-based media. The economic overview is concise and useful.

The app is fast and easy. Couldn’t be more happy with this app as I use it for 2 years with no issues whatsoever. Consistent, easy, fast, quality content. Thank you!
